My 2000 lincoln ls was struck broadside by a 1997 mazda protege. The collision resulted in both the driver and passenger door, as well as the center pillar, being caved in by the other vehicle. Airbag light keeps coming on.consumer took vehicle to dealer.

Airbag light flashes code 36 then goes steady. The light flashes three flashes, pauses then flashes six flashes, then pauses and repeats sequence. It does this sequence about five times then the light goes on steady. After doing some online research for clues, i looked under the driver's seat and found a broken wire on a yellow connector. This yellow connector is for the airbag system. I talked to the local dealer about it, and he said that i would have to pay to have it fixed. This should be a recall item since it affects safety. The vehicle has to have airbags by law, but i guess they don't have to work. The emission system is still covered under warranty and is not a matter of safety, go figure!

While driving on a smooth straight section of interstate 75 at 80 mph i apparently ran over a piece of metal which flipped up and hit the under side of the car under the drivers seat toward the outside. Then the side air bag deployed on the driver's side striking my upper arm, causing a large bruise. I was able to maintain control of the car. I checked for damage at the next lighted exit. Finding none i proceeded on my trip home. The next morning i drove to the lincoln dealer. They discovered a 2-3 inch gash under the drivers seat and said that caused the air bag to deploy. They denied a warrenty claim for the repair and refused to state in writing that the impact to the under side of the car caused the air bag to deploy properly and therefor was not a covered defect. At this time i am trying to contact the lincoln 800 nunber to get the repair covered under the warrenty and have the problem checked into for other driver's safety.

The engine failures began on july 28, 2005 and have continued through this date.this engine should have been recalled.the types of problems cause the engine to create erroneous mechanical readouts preventing the vehicle from passing state's emission inspections.the engine shuts down due to faulty plastic tensioners causing the timing chains to become loose, thus causing engine failures.i'm lucky i was not going any faster when my engine failed twice causing me to lose my steering capabilities, etc.most mechanics are replacing ignition coils because they are getting misfire readings on specific cylinders, however the problem lies with the timing chains that go out eventually.currently, i have four diagnostic readings on my engine stating that number 4 cylinder is misfiring, when indeed two mechanics are stating that the timing chain is the problem and another expert familiar with this problem sells the specific kits to try to correct this known problem of ford's.check out this website for more information:http://stores.christophersforeigncarparts.com/-strse-template/about/page.bok.i have had all 8 cylinder ignition coils changed; spark plug boots; and valve cover gaskets replaced and still these are misfiring.lincoln knew of the problem with these models and changed the factory warranty on all models after 2002 from 50,000 miles to 80,000.please refer to edmund's blog site under lincoln ls for additional owners experiencing the same thing.also, i filed a consumer complaint back on 10.25.2007 at the state of missouri attorney general's office.ford was made aware of the problem and did nothing to remedy the situation claiming the car had too many miles and was too old.

I believe my 2000 lincoln ls is unsafe to drive do to the fact that the shifting is erratic. This car has actually cut out on me several times, on the highway all lights, power steering, brakes everything and gave me an error message. The message stated gear shifting error. My dealer doesn't know what to do. Why are they are registered as a lincoln dealer if they can't fix lincolns?

I own a 2000 lincoln ls with severe and erratic transmission problems which make this car unsafe to drive. I have spent over $2000.00 with numerous trips back to the repair shop in trying to correct this problem, but the car still hesitates, bucks, and even shuts down at highway speeds at which time the car has no power steering or brakes!! reading up on forums, it appears that this is a very common problem with 2000 - 2002 lincoln ls's. Lincoln mercury repair shops "shoot in the dark" trying to repair these problems costing customers across the country thousands of dollars and still can not come up with a solution. They have stated that it is an "uncorrectable computer glitch". I am sure that there will be people who lose there lives do to this problem if some haven't already. This a $40,000 car and my problems started when the car had only 30,000 miles on it. Ford should recall these vehicles and correct the problem before people get killed or seriously injured.

Purchased my 2000 ls in october of that year.in 2001 had to have regulator on back passenger window replaced.since then 2 more back window regulators have also been replaced at cost of approx. $700.had to have coil replaced.car has always hesitated shifting into reverse.at 40 mph car runs roughly, shakes.in june this year car would not start after shutting off.some computer valve sticking; dealership told my husband to take a rock and hit it to free it up so car will start.several times car would not start at all for no apparent reason.called dealership about ball joint noise under front of car; they said nothing wrong.front passenger door drains plugged --- door filled with water that sloshed when coming to a stop.called dealership(s) --- no help.called lincoln hotline - no help.they said it was a 5 year old what do we expect!

Check advanctrak light, brake light and traction control light display illuminate and mileage displays lines.

I just had to replace the 4th electrical spark plug coil (out of 8) in my 2000 lincoln ls.coils usually don't fail.this one did when i was driving up into the mountains.thankfully, i wasn't passing anyone at the time, otherwise, things may have gotten ugly.each repair costs about $300, so for all eight cylinders, i may end up spending $2400.i've never had a car go through coils before.

Dt:the consumer was driving on the interstateat 60 mph when the front drivers side tireswayed into the vehicle.the consumer lostcontrol of the vehicle for a moment.suddenly flames erupted out of the front tire area.the vehicle skidded to the left into the median about 100 feet and had come to a stop.the consumer put the vehicle in park and turned off the engine and escaped from the vehicle.a pedestrian put out the fire with an extinguisher.there were no injuries.the vehicle was towed to a tire dealer who sauggested that there was a separation of the front control arm and the lower ball joint that contributed to the problem, as well as a leak in the fuel lines.the consumer searched the internet and found a recall that the consumer believed pertained to her vehicle.(recall00v359001 which did not include the lower ball joints.the consumer contacted ford, who said this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.no repairs or corrections were made and no police report was filed.the fire department did not come.*sc .

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.the air bag restraint system light remained illuminated on the instrument panel.the dealer informed the contact that the air bags would not deploy if the light is illuminated and he should have the vehicle serviced.the dealer replaced the wiring harness and restraint control module.there have not been any other occurrences since the replacement.the current and failure mileage were 76,100.

This past april i had to take my car in to get the driver side window regulator fixed. It is now july and my rear passenger window regulator now needs replaced.my other two windows will also need to be fixed if i were to roll them down.for all my regulators to go out at basically the same time, to me means that there is a defect with these parts. *ph

Problems with ignition coils on lincoln 2000 ls. *mr there were a number of ignition coils that needed to be replaced on these vehicle. (4/8/04 one coil had to be replaced, on 6/15/04 two more had to be replaced, and within two weeks of that, two more had gone bad) *sc

While driving the vehicle at any speed, the engine misfired and stalled when the vehicle reached a temperature. The problem was due to a faulty coil pack. The dealer had replaced the coil pack on six different occasions. Consumer will send original bill for repairs.*la 10/17/02 three coil packs were replaced (#'s 2-6-7) due to the engine missing, 3/19/03 the coil pack #3 due to missing, 10/09/03 the transmission valve body was replaced along with the fluid filter, and on 4/8/04 two coil packs #'s 1 and 4 were replaced due to engine missing.*sc

On three different occasions since february, an ignition coil has failed in my ls(# 2,3,and 6).each time the repair has cost almost $300, and in addition since the dealer thought a small leak in the valve cover gasket may have caused the problem with #3, that was replaced for an additional $225.in the 45 years i have been driving, i have never had a coil go bad.there is clearly a defect in the original coils or engine design.the dealer has indicated that they have replaced many of these on ls's.

Major problems with vehicle's ignition coils. *mr on april 18, 2004 the service dealer replaced one coil.then on june 15, 2004 two more coils were replaced.within two weeks, another coil or more went bad.there was random misfires which remained the same even after repair, then it worked fine but was followed by the vehicle running rough. *sc

When turning onsignal light andhazardflashing warning light vehicle would shut down without warning. Dealer was aware of the problem.mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

My car was sluggish and losing power upon taking it in for servicing i had five of eight coil on plugs replaced by dealership, not more than one week after my car started the same symptoms and had an clicking noise in the engine.i was told buy the dealership that their diagnostic equipment was giving them false reading, one saying that the car was alright, and the other saying that it wasn't.they couldn't do anything for me.please contact me with an answer on what i can do.

On several occasions my ls will crank but will not start.the anti-theft indicator on the dashboard flashes which indicates that the car will not start.i have been stranded on three separate occasions only to have my car towed to the dealer where it starts just fine for them.i have had the following replaced:transceiver, anti-theft module, computer and the cables that connect the transceiver to the computer.the dealer has not been able to solve the problem.

2000 lincoln ls gave warnings of transmission problems, traction control problems, service engine problems.the car would die completely after acceleration via standard method or via cruise control.multiple ford dealer visits had the coils replaced and excessive diagnostics done but did not fix the problems. Dealer was able to duplicate the car dying in normal operating situations.ford claimed that they have no knowledge of such a problem.lincoln dealer knew that the oil covers leaked and filled the spark plug wells, in turn causing electrical shorts and failures.

Consumer noticed smoke coming from hood of vehicle. Dealerdoesn't knowexactly where it's coming from.radiator cap was loose, but hasn't been determined that it wasthe cause.dealer is going to replaced the power steering hose to see if it solves the problem. *ml

Hi i'm making this complaint on behalf of my mom she just purchased her car that doesn't have an airbag without signing a disclosure form and the transmission is totally running down and not being informed of this she went ahead and bought the car unaware of any of this.

Driving on interstate at 65 mph when motor shut off and would not restart.fortunately i was in the right hand lane and able to coast to a safe stop.i required a tow to the dealership.discovered that the problem was a failure of the crankshaft position sensor.

Car slowed on highway in high speed traffic causing cars to have to just miss me from behind. I was totally freaked, had to have 3 engine ignition coils replaced. I've had 2 more since then.just replaced a fuel tank also, this car has less than 46,000 miles on it and has cost me over $4500 in 2 years. I am on ss and 76 years old, i'm afraid to even drive this car, what have you done about this? i've owned fords all my life before purchasing this awful machine calling itself a car.it's sas that all my friends are seeing what ford has become .on march 11th i paid $1444 for another repair.can i get some help with this bill? The 2000 model year lincoln ls. After a cold start, sometimes the weather is dry, sometimes not, i will drive 2-4 miles down a fairly level road, and there is a high pich whine noise from the engine, the thermostat starts to rise, the check engine light comes on and if i do not stop it continues until the engine power is reduced and i have to stop., this occurs at speeds of 0-35mph. I stop for 5 minutes and restart the engine and most of the time it works like nothing ever happened. There is no odor associated with this. The dealer has replaced the thermostat, and some coils. These fixes have not removed the problem. It will not happen for 3-4 months then will reoccur.

Several times during the past 6 months while coming to a stop and lightly applying the brakes the engine starts to race to the point it can't be held back with the brakes. Quickly putting the transmission in neutral corrects the problem immediately and the engine returns to idle speed. Most recently i had this problem 3 time in one evening. The last time i was slowly turning onto my driveway and the car took off. Before i could react i was on the front lawn and narrowly missed my son who happened to be on the driveway. This is a serious problem and someone is going to get killed or seriously injured.

I bought my lincoln ls in august in september it started messing up when i would get on the interstate it would stop in the middle of driving and the steering wheel will not move so that i can pull over it is very dangerous.

I am concerned with the safety of my lincoln.when the coils go bad the car starts missing.i was stopped being a school bus when my rpm's surged to 6500 and my car jolted forward.after the bus started up,i gave the car little gas to go, and it stalled.it stalled on the interstate the evening before.the mechanic told me that 3 coils were out.i have had the same situation 3 or 4 other times.my 2000 lincoln ls has had several coils replaced.mechanic finally determined that the valve cover gasket was bad.after replacing the gaskets, 3 coils went out within several days.i think that from my research, the valve cover gaskets are defective and should be recalled and coils replaced or reimbursement made for coils already replaced. I feel that this is a safety issue when the car surges and stalls on the highway.

Vehicle shuts off making a right turn. Without warning and potentially dangerous shut off problem. When the consumer took the vehicle in for service he was told by the dealer there were two other vehicle with the same problem and unfortunately they were unable to find a cause.

Engine light comes on and seconds later engine shuts off especially while turning right or left at low speeds.

I purchased the 2000 lincoln ls in november 2002.i have had break trouble at the cost of $1000.in the past two weeks, i have been informed that the car has had catostrophic damage and would be better off buying a new engine.i'm highly concerned about this occurrence and request an immediate resolution to my concerns.

While traveling about 55mph on highwayvehicle overheated. And shut down without prior warning.the vehicle had to be towed.

Consumer noticed smoke coming from hood of vehicle. Dealerdoesn't knowexactly where it's coming from.radiator cap was loose, but hasn't been determined that it wasthe cause.dealer is going to replaced the power steering hose to see if it solves the problem. *ml

Re: 2000 lincoln ls problem: 2 induction coils need replacement. Re: rancho santa margarita fordhistory: engine stopped on highway and on road home took to dealer and after inspection put auto in garage. Can not drive safely. One coil was replaced under warranty. Called ford cust.svs on this issue. They offered 12 month warranty on work. Thought "offer" was unusual; wouldn't dealer offer at least that? request: please review reported frequency of this problem for potential recall.. I submit this is a design flaw and safety issue and not a maintenance or wear & tear issue, unless owners' manual describes how i could have prevented or recommended time interval for inspection.. Research indicates this is the most common problem on model and caused by the gasket. This issue is on record with ford in at least one bulletin (tsb 00t03 /9/2000 pcm-drivability complains).

While driving check engine light appeared intermittently. The consumercontacted the dealership on four separate occasions. Mechanic was not able to duplicate the problem.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.the contact stated that three cylinders were replaced in 2005, one cylinder was replaced in may of 2007, and one has already been replaced this month.the repairs were covered under the vehicle's extended warranty.while driving between 60 and 70 mph, the vehicle misfires.the purchase date, engine size, and a valid vin were unknown.the current mileage is 46,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.

Check engine/check transmission message has come on. Vehicle has less then 50k miles on it, transmission needs to be replaced already, looking at $3000+in repairs.

In january 2004 the valve cover gasket started leaking on my 2000 lincoln ls [xxx].part back ordered until march 2004.was informed by dealership that over 8,000 were back ordered in january.dealership told me i could drive vehicle until part arrived.oil leak caused the coil boots to soak shorting coils (seven out of eight coils).coil boot back ordered (no known estimate of time for getting part) [xxx].am concerned about the multiple calls i have made to the local dealer and to ford motor company to no avail.i have been without a vehicle for over a month.no loaner was offered.repair costs are escalating.waited two months for gasket.have no idea how long boot item will be before arrival.seems this is a recall issue.seems ford motor company is refusing to deal with their customer.updated 07/29/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The jack provided with the vehicle collapsed after tire was removed allowing the car to crash to the ground. I was not near the car at the time when this happened. After examing the jack ,the jack was bent in half . This is a scissors type jack, was notextended very high as this car sits low to the ground .the quality and strenght of the jack is questionable. Fortunately , there was no injuryandonly damage to the rear discwhich iintend to report to the dealer andford motorco.

On i95 car started hesitating, bucking i pulled off i95 and slowly bucked to work when i left work slowly drove home engine light came on and went to my mechanic. He checked the car out and said it is probably the catalytic converter, these ls's are know for this problem. He said i could continue to drive it safely as i only put less than 5000 miles a year but eventually it will go. I went on line and so many people have reported the same issue with all different years of this model. It has acted up several times and then it settles down and drives okay, the check engine light is on again and i wonder why there has not been a recall on this car and issue as so many people have been on line about it, it must be a defect, probably why they stopped making this car. It is too costly to repair this car because of the age and its a shame as i only have 80000 miles on it. Automakers should be held liable for these defective issues.

My 2000 lincoln ls leaking from the gas tank. This was identified as a defect in 2005 but according to lincoln my vin number is not included in the recall.this is a very dangerous perhaps life threatening . When i was last filling up my car i was told by the costco attendant i had to roll my car forward due to the leak from the tank.

The driver side door handle will not allow the consumer to exit the vehicle.the dealer repaired the problem once, but six weeks later the problem recurred.also the rear right electric window fell inside of the door and will not roll up.the manufacturer is not aware of the problems. *ph

Front driver side door could not be opened from the inside of the vehicle.exiting the vehicle required the owner to roll down the window, reach outside and lift the handle. *nlm

Drivers door does not open from the inside. Had it reaired (we thought) but quit working again within 4 weeks. Will cost $ 700 to fix.

Vehicle is equipped with an automatic/manual transmission combination.in the automatic position the vehicle hesitates for approximately 20/25 seconds before engaging into gear from park. The dealership has ran a diagnostic test 4 times but no failure codes were found.the dealership indicated that this issue is a characteristic of the vehicle.

Transmission is faulty e-code pops check transmission and ford doesn't know how to fix it come on! i was pulling out of a side street and i was pasted by a semi that with conditions barely missed t boning me cuz of this faulty whatever u wanna call it! i can't even check the [xxx] fluid! it costs $120 just to check it! it blows my mind u ca this car is considered safe and that this transmission issue hasn't been taken care of! people will die or i'm sure already have, the transmission is what drives the wheels how is it safe that u can't control ur speed! the thing acts different every day. Some days ok some days lagging and slow and some days the [xxx] thing takes off like i dumped the clutch and gunned it but i barely pushed the pedal! i've never been so dissatisfied and disappointed with laws rules regulations or whatever! every lincoln ls should be crushed or fitted with totally different transmission!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Hi i'm making this complaint on behalf of my mom she just purchased her car that doesn't have an airbag without signing a disclosure form and the transmission is totally running down and not being informed of this she went ahead and bought the car unaware of any of this.

While traveling in warm weather and without any indicationspeedometer failed, giving no properreading. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further information.

This car is a death trap transmission just goes out when ever picture pulling out across 2 lanes of traffic and the tranny going out right in the middle of the road with 3 kids in the car.

Terminal issues with the transmission in my 2000 lincoln ls !i and everyone else are having issues with the transmissions in the lincoln ls models. Both the v-8 & v-6 models have constant issues with transmission failures & puts the owners at risk while driving these vehicles !i was passing a semi when my failure happened and the car lost complete power and we almost got hit head on by an oncoming car (that was nowhere in sight when i started to pass this vehicle) !it takes no effort to discover that this is a habitual issue with this vehicle. I was a lincoln salesman for over 3 years and i know that lincoln builds a great product, and reliability isn't an issue with any of their other models. Please don't allow lincoln to address this issue by saying ,"well if your over 100k miles , we wont address it", becauseit will force us to gothe route of spending $3500 to replace it with a genuine lincoln tranny thenthey are happy .this is a safety issue , because this car will basically "shut itself down" when it encounters tranny issues , & lincoln is going to say they don't know there is an issue ............c'mon !

Vehicle experienced problems with sudden acceleration and jumping out of gear. Provide further details.consumer ended up going through back wall of garage on one occasion, consumer states sometimes the rear tires would spin out of control even with foot on brake and the only way to stop sudden acceleration was to turn the ignition off, dealer convinced cosumer to lease another ls, however consumer is concerned what will happen with the other vehicle, if it would be sold and someone could be harmed.

The vehicle lost acceleration.the vehicle was to the dealership and the mechanic determined there was a problem with the transmission .under fast acceleration, the transmission would sometimes shift into neutral for 2-3 seconds, to regain drive the consumer had to release the accelerator and wait for the transmission to re-engage.the dealer replaced the transmission valve body.this did not totally correct the problem. *sc

From the day i bought the car the transmission has shifted strangely.several visits to the dealer and they tried several "reflashes" on the transmission control module.no change.recently the problem has gotten worse, and the car has stalled 3 times while under power, and numerous times while idling at a stop light.hard shifts and erratic shifts around 40mph are everyday driving occurances.dealer told me 'that is how that transmission is designed'.that's crap.so's the transmission.date that i entered into this complaint is the most recent occurance.certainly not the only.i think this is a defective part and ford should replace it with a unit that works properly all the time.

Car has been back to dealer at least 6 times for transmission not shifting properly and jerking into gear harsly- i am being put off by dealer..car has done this continuous..has been to three dealerships and none can resolve this problem.i feel this is such a safety problem for me and my child. There could have been an accident on three different occassions. I have begged the dealer to just put me in another 2000 lincoln ls.i bought the car june of 2002- car immediately started this problem and has continued.i paid 23,900 for my car 6 months ago and dealer today tells me he will give me 15,000.00 for my car and will put me in another lincoln ls for 3600.00 more dollars.please help- i have contacted lincoln to start a dispute settlement.i feel this is more a safety hazard than anything.

Monday, march 6, 2006, i was driving to work on a three lane highway.i stopped at a red light, and my car would notmove.i was stuck in a dangerous situation.i called a tow truckto tow my car.the mechanic diagnosed the problem, and determined that the transmission died. There was sufficient fluid in the transmission, the transmission just seemed to die.a police officer stopped to see what the problem was.he told me it was the worst possible place for my car to die.

Lincoln ls transmission showing e and driving rough.

Transmission problems and no one has an answer car cuts out while driving and is very dangerous.

When vehicle is taken out of parkinto reverse there is a noise, a quite noticeable popping sound. Vehicle was serviced by heritage lincoln-mercury in greenville, sc the problem has return, unsure if this noise occurs in the 2000 ls models.

When putting vehicle in drive it surges forward and when in reverse the vehicle surges backwards. The dealer has been notified.the dealer replaced the pcv valve yet the problem still exist, the dealer then determined that the transmission was defective which caused the surging*mj

Changed the coil packs several times afterthe third had to replace the engine and now the there is a delay in putting the care in reverse and at times there's a harsh upshift.i'm now replacing the transmission.

While driving vehicle did not shift into gears properly, it would pause and suddenly jerk forward or surge forward which could cause a crash.dealer could not determine the cause of the problem. *ml

When puttingvehicle in reverse, and keeping the foot on t brake, vehicle jumped backwards. Also, it happened when putting vehicle in drive after going into reverse. Dealer has seen vehicle 3 times, and couldn'tfix it.

Was shifting into drive whentransmission started to whine & not shift at all. Then suddenly it would jerk hard into gear. Later would try to pass another vehicle, it would jerk hard going into overdrive. Complained to dealership numerous times, but not taken seriously. After last complaints informed that vehicle not safe to drive in that condition.

2000 lincoln ls .the valve body in the transmission does not work properly.i took the car to the local lincoln dealer jack kain ford lincoln mercury in london kentucky.the valve body was bad and i had to wait for two weeks while the valve body was ordered.the wait was because the valve body had to be reengineered due to previous problems.i don't think i should have to pay for the repair and this should be covered by the manufacturer.*la

I own a 2000 lincoln ls, i have had an entire engine replaced. I have also had a transmission replaced 2 times. Along w/ replacing gaskets which leaked oil and shorted out the plugs etc. Major things! i have had numerous window regulators replaced. Seat heater replaced and headlight covers that constantly fog w/ any moisture still even after replacing several times. Radio was replaced, along w/ rear brake light bulbs short out all the time due to moisture in rear light covers! now more transmission problems in the 1000's of dollars. *la

I currently drive a 00' lincoln ls with 71k miles on it and have had numerous unacceptable problems, the worst of which has been the transmission(s). I have just been informed by the dealership here that i need a new transmission again. I just bought a new one 32k miles ago, because the original had gone bad. This is three transmission i have now needed for a car with under 75k miles on it, this is completely unacceptable. Plus, on average, the vehicle has been in the shop for various repairs at least once every other month. The only explanation i have received from the dealer for this is that "00' was the first year they made the ls and it took them a few years to get it right," so i will have to deal with them. The problems associated with this vehicle are way to frequent and expensive to be considered normal for any car. According to my dealership, the 00' ls in general is a lemon and every one with that year ls is suffering because of it. Other problems aside, i should not be paying for another transmission on this car with this low of miles. I only drive this vehicle to work and back and around town andnever wrecklessly. This vehicle has always been handle with care, so why the problems? dealer info:capitol lincoln mercury3469 s state stsalt lake, ut 84115801-263-2222.

When the transmission is placed in gear it moves a little then stops(as if in neutral), then all of a sudden it lunges forward without consumer's foot on the gas.nlm

Consumer put vehicle in drive and vehicle went backwards.

Nhtsa recall 00-v-35-000: consumer's two years old son, engaged the vehicle from park to driveand damaged a fence andthe frontof the vehicle as well. Dealer notified. Consumer has the same problem as mentioned in recall;however, this vehicle was not included inrecall due to vin.

Experienced trans not wanting to shift into fourth and fifth gear and lunging forward when being started and still in park. Car had 68000 miles on it at that time, took car in to have trans filter replaced and fluid changed. Trans. Pan was removed and pieces of bearings and metal shavings and spring found in bottom of trans pan.was told rebuild would be 1900 dollars. Job was performed and car was taken back in for same problems 3 more times in first four monthsof getting car back. It was never corrected or able to be fixed properly. Warranty is now up and im waiting for trans to fail gain as its doing same as before. I was informed to look online as this is a known problem for this vehicle. After searching for very short time found numerous consumers with the same exact problems i have been experiencing. I think after reading all the posts and comments from other people this should defiantly qualify as a defect and be a recall through lincoln.

~both lower ball joints have failed~driver side interior door handle doesn't work~driver side door control strap broke~vehicle transmission misses gear going up inclines~vehicle misfires and engine idles rough at times, dealer found nothing wrong~replace back right side and front driver side window regulators after failures~moonroof switch went bad~lug nuts on vehicle strip easily, have to replace most of them~shifts extremely rough from reverse to park~engine idle sound terrible for a luxury car, ever after dealer tune up~had to replace engine gaskets, coolant leaked into engine block contaminating the oil~headlights fog over after any precipitation, very dangerous~lower front bumper is separating from the upper bumper

My 2000 lincoln ls has had numerous mechanical problems resulting in thousands of dollars in repairs. The car is in the shop right now having the transmission replaced.

Transmission jerking and kicking when shifting to reverse. Harsh/delayedupshifting. Counting the factory installed solenoid pack i have gone through a total of 4 plus one valve body which was installed recently with the last solenoid pack. The pcm was reflashed as well.

While driving my 2000 lincoln ls the transmission tends to shift on it's own from high to to low gear and back to high gear thus causing a stall. This situation can happen at any time, ie: while driving on the interstate at 65 mph it well shift back and forth and cause the vehicle to hesitate and then stall. When there is a tractor trail rig behind you at 65 or 70 mph you know what will happen. Being a trained vehicle operator to drive under very advers condictions i can handle the situation, onmost times, but there are situations that even the best drivers can not handle. The dealership keeps telling me that it is an air flow problem to with the sensor but i say it is a major safety issue and the dealer should report it to thier headquarters and repair the problem for free.

I have had many shifting problems with my 2000 lincoln ls.i have had it looked at by dealers and have been told many different reasons why i am having the shifting problems.one dealer told me it was a computer glitch and cannot be fixed.so far i have had my computer reset, fuel filter changed, ignition coils and igniters changed, fuel injectors cleaned or something like that andsome shifting sensor or transmission sensor changed.with all this maintenance donei still have a engine light illuminated on my dash and my car still shifts when it feels like it.many times when i need to accelerate it pauses and seems to not be able to find gears.the most scary incident was while driving on the freeway on december 3, 2005my 2000 lincoln ls's shifting became erratic sputtered and then the car turned off.while going about 65 miles per hour i was left with no power steering and had to pull to the side of the road nearly being rear ended by a truck.i have yet to have an accident but fear that with this erratic shifting it might happen. I will pay whatever it takes to have this problem fixed once and for all.i have no choice but to drive this car to and from work because it is my only means of transportation.i love my lincoln and this is my second one my first was a 2001 and it had the same shifting problems but not as bad as this one. My lincoln is not the only one with these problems i am a member of 4 lincolnclubs on line and have heard many horror stories about lincoln ls's erratic shifting. Not only is this problem deemed unfixable by my dealership. Many other lincoln dealerships have given the same run around tomembers of the lincoln clubs that i am a member of. Llsoc is one of the clubs that i am a member of.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.the contact stated that the fastest speed her vehicle can reach is 20 mph.whenever she attempts to accelerate, the vehicle fails to catch the correct gear.the vehicle will accelerate extremely fast or the engine will just rev loudly, without the vehicle moving anywhere.while driving 60 mph, the vehicle slows down on its own, with or without the brake or accelerator pedals being depressed.the vehicle was taken to a repair shop, but they initially could not determine the cause of the failures.the contact was informed to take the vehicle to the dealer so that they could reset the code for the pcm.through research, she learned that resetting the pcm is very expensive and not fully effective.she also found numerous consumers that were experiencing the same failures with the same type of vehicle.the failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 103,000.

2000 lincoln ls failed to accelerate. The vehicle also made a grinding noise and left the consumer stranded.the axle assembly was replaced. Jb

I have a lincoln ls 2000 which had to have the rear wheel bearings replaced( done 6/27/05) after 34,343 miles. Crossing an intersection on 6/29/05, the left rear axle broke, making the car inoperable with on coming traffic from both left and right. Luckily, cars were able to stop and help push car off the road. Axle was replace 34,400 miles. On 8/6/05, driving the vehicle in town, the same thing happened, making the car inoperable, blocking traffic and opportunity for an accident. This time the right rear axle broke ( 34,806 miles). Both incidents if had happened on an interstate or very busy road, would have definitely resulted in an accident and severe injury or death.both lincoln and the dealer (bob wade lincoln, harrisonburg, va) have told me they don't know what caused the issue.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. The contact stated the brake lights were inoperable. In addition, the front passenger seat belt was inoperable. The manufacturer advised there were no recalls and would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 84,000.

While driving to work at 50mpg the airbag in the passenger seat deployed. I did not hit anything nor was i hit by anything. The airbag deployed for no reason. This is an issue as now i can not use the vehicle when traveling with my family as it is unsafe for anyone to sit in the passenger seat.

Consumer states seat belts lock up without warning. Dealer notified.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 45 mph there was a smell of smoke and a pinching sensation emitting from the driver seat cushion area of the seat heater.the contact pulled over and exited the vehicle at which time the seat heater automatically turned off on its own.although the dealer was alerted, the vehicle was not inspected.

Randomly when applying the brakes the car accelerates instead of stopping.this is referred to as unintended acceleration.in some cases this happened on the freeway and others on city streets at very low speeds. Attached is my correspondence with ford over this matter.as you will see from the correspondence, these incidents occurred soon after i bought the vehicle in 2000 (first incident was in 2001) up until most recently, 2/28/2015.i'm uploading three documents: 1 - my initial to ford dated 08/23/2015 summarizing the entire episode of incidents 2 - the response letter from ford date 8/27/20153 - my final letter to ford dated 10/25/2015 asking them to pick up the car from my house.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.the contact shifted from park to reverse while parked on a flat surface.the vehicle began to roll backwards while the brake pedal was depressed.the vehicle did not stop until the gear was shifted into park.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer.the current and failure mileages were 29,688.

Consumer was travelig 35-40mph around a small curvebrakes were applied slightlyand locked up.brakes stopped the wheels completely, butvehicle kept going. Vehicle was pulling to left & blewout.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.the contact stated that she would repeatedly feel abnormal bouncing while driving various speeds.secondly, when applying pressure to the brake pedal, she would hear a loud squealing noise accompanied with mild sliding.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel prior to the failures.she took the vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions and the brakes were replaced four times within one year.as of march 10, 2009, all the remedies have been insufficient in resolving the failures.the failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 77,000.

I brought a 2000 lincoln ls from a dealer by the name of import auto sales located at 589 e 32nd st. Paterson new jersey 07513. When i was taken for a test drive by the salesman i question him on a squeaky bumpy noise on the front side of the car . He told me that the tires needed air and the road in this area is very bumpy. To later find out that on that model car there was a ball joints recall . Before i found out thru the website google about the recall i took it to a repair shop ( lincoln ford dealer ) and the price they gave me was $4,000 including labor. I had just finished spending $2,000 on regular maintenance work (tune-up - oil change - cooling flush- new rotors with brakes .and other regular work that you need to do on a car with over 100,000 miles.now the car is park because i don't have the money to repair it. I was told that if i drive it with bad ball joints the wheel might become separated and get into a fatal crash that could kill the driver and passengers.

When driving 15-20 mph and upon depressingbrake pedal to make a gradual stop vehicle suddenly accelerated, causing an accident. Vehicle hit a brick wall in whichdriver's side and passenger's side air bags did not deploy.consumer has contacteddealer.

While driving on highway brake pedal is soft and spongy. Brake system stops properly.but, when applying brakes on an incline or in traffic, pedal will go to the floor. Contacted dealer and they said this was the way it was designed. Brakes are working as designed.

The lincoln ls is made on a european model jaguar frame which has all controls on the right side.in order to fit american standards all controls except the abs system has been moved to the left side of the car.since the abs system remains on the right side, lincoln had to run brake lines across the car.in doing so, they have ran these lines on top, beside and along the radiator and right along the exhaust system.this short cut of running these lines, instead of moving the abs assembly to the left side, causes the brake fluid to get excessively hot which eventually breaks the plastic reservoir container causing leakage of brake fluid.this leakage can substantialy cause brake failure.i have been informed by my dealer that they will no longer replace this reservoir because they have not figuered out what is the problem.i have repeatedlyadvised the local dealer of this defect and they have not taken it seriously.i hope that your organization will forward this complaint your internal engineers to analyze and investigate my complaint.just like in previous complaints that you may have received about firestones tire failure, timing is everything.i urge you to take immediate action (like a full recall on all lincoln ls vehicles) before someone gets hurt.to add further credibility to my analysis of the problem, fords (maker of lincoln) only vehicle that has an abs system on the right side is the lincoln ls.please call me if you have any further questions or need more detailed information about this problem.

Whenconsumeris at a stop sign or light and applies brakes, brakes pedal goes all the way down to floorboard.dealership is aware ofproblem, andvehicle will go into shop today.

Vehicle was slowing down/ going 8mph, and was not stopping. Brakes felt fine. Diagnostic test couldn't find anything wrong technically. Vehicle'scomputer may have a defect that dealer can't detect.

Uphill at 45 mph vehicle lurched/took off, applied brake for about 1/8 of a mile. Brakes could not hold vehicle.went through two intersections before consumer was able to stop vehicle. Dealer had vehicle for 2 weeks, could not findcause.consumer no longer felt safe drivingvehicle.

Wife driving, i'm passenger. Applied brakes, helf firmly, went thru stop sign. Lucky ! next, at red light, car quicklylurchedforward but was able to brake before hitting car in front.reported this to the dealership. They reported back that they looked for any such problems in theircomputer system and "there was none."this is most frightening. What should i do?

Airbag light stays on.vehicle has been taken to dealer 4 times for air bag light failure. Currently, vehicle is atdealerfor sam eproblem. Also. Brakes are beginning to squeak very loudly, andleft front headlight component assembly had to be changed.

Concerns of the locations of the brake and accelerator pedals on 2000 lincoln ls.*mrwhen brake are depressed, it is easy to hit the accelerator pedal as well. When this happened the consumer had to turn off the ignition while keeping pressure on both pedals.if both pedals were release at the same time the vehicle would lurch forward.the vehicle lurch once which resulted in the vehicle hitting the consumer's garage door and right turn signal lens.the manufacturer was contacted but there has been no follow-up correspondence.

Brake and accelerator pedals are located too close together, consumer applies both brake and accelerator pedals when braking/ accelerating. Dealer stated there was nothing they could do. *yd

When applying pressure to brake pedal pedal, it will fall to the floor andconsumers foot will inadvertently hit accelerator pedal.when this problem occurred for the fourth time, he had to avoid hitting a pedestrian, and crashed into a garage door, causing $1,800.00 damage. Dealership examined vehicle, and could not find a problem.

When drivingabout 6000 feet and apply ing brakes, pedal becomes hard.also, when startingvehicle in cold there are nobrakes for the first five minutes. The brake problem is worse at cold/ high altitude and when going up the hill at any speed.

The contact owned a 2000 lincoln ls. While driving 35 mph, the steering wheel pulled to the right and caused the vehicle to drive into a ditch. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled and towed to an unknown location. A police report was filed. The contact suffered injuries and received medical attention. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was unknown.

Dt: the consumer's complaint is in reference to a recall that was supposed tohave been performed in 2000.the consumer is the second owner of the vehicle.the recall was in reference tot eh front lower ball joint fracture.the consumer has been hearing front end noise.she was told by the dealer that if she bought new tires the noise would go away but the noise is still there.ford is not willing to do anything and they state the recall was performed. ( ford has told her she needs to have the ball joints and the steering knuckle on the front end replaced).

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. While driving at speeds of 50 mph, there was a loud, unusual rattling noise coming from under the vehicle. The dealer advised the steering and ball joints were defective and would need to be replaced. The manufacturer advised there were no recalls for the vehicle and would not provide any assistance. The contact was concerned that if the ball joints were to separate, the wheel would fracture from the vehicle and could potentially cause a crash. The failure and current mileages were 120,000.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.while driving between 25 and 30 mph, the vehicle would pull right or left, depending on the road conditions.the failure has caused premature wear on the tires.the vehicle has not been in any crashes due to the failure and has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 66,778.

Steering shaft u-joint has failed, causing the steering to lock up at ~90* to the left or right of center.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact experienced uncontrollable steering.the dealer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 00v359001 (suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint).the contact would have to pay $1,131.42 to replace the steering knuckle and the lower ball joint.the vehicle was repaired.the failure and current mileages were 76,018.

I bought my lincoln ls in august in september it started messing up when i would get on the interstate it would stop in the middle of driving and the steering wheel will not move so that i can pull over it is very dangerous.

Ball joint bolts loosen or don't tighten to specifications which causes a lot of wear and tear on the front end of my vehicle. I've had to have them replaced twice and tightened up or re-fixed several times it's unsafe at time. I take chances of my life safety. I mostly have had problems on the regular streets and to afraid at most times to even think about getting on a highway.

I own a 2000 lincoln ls v8. I have noticed that there is popping at the ball joint on the front suspension of the car.. I took it to a mechanic shop and he told me that he didn't want to touch it because he had found out that those particular year model cars had a recall for the suspension ball joints. I went home and did some research and came to a site called nhtsa. I got on the nhtsa database and it clearly shows:nhtsa campaign id number: 00v359001 component: suspension:front:control arm:lower ball jointthis is the only vehicle i have and it is now 2012. I have not had any notification that this particular car was being recalled.i don't have any money to fix this issue and wanted to see if the recall is honored currently. I have talked to many of people and they have told me that they can run the vin number to see if any recall service work has been done to my car..this car gets me to and from work and makes me a living. I have to drive this car because its my only means of transportation. I have also read on forums that the ball joint supports the entire weight of the car and if it would to snap, it will cause great harm or even death. I would like to know what can be done on this matter please, it scares me.

Safety defect.. Defective lower ball joints 2000 lincoln lswith 85,000 miles.while driving the car it pulls to the right and you feel unsafe steering the car. I am told it is so bad that if it completely fails it the wheel/s will separate from the car. Ford has since improved the part, a larger sized ball joint now 16mm vs. 14mm.dealer repair quote @ $1100, $600 for the parts alone.

I took my car in for regular service, including oil change and tire rotation.upon inspection, the dealer noted that the steering knuckles were worn out, allowing the tie rods to move.the risk is that the wheel can separate from the car.

Basically from what i can tell the complaints have already been made just about every complaint i have read i have experienced as a matter of fact the dealer can tell you in advance what is going to fail. The consumer advocate is who is not doing their job in making ford fix these hazard traps.

All four tires have worn down tobelt due to spindle.dealer has been notified.

I was getting on a freeway on ramp that turned not going more than maybe between 30-35 mph and when almost getting ready to merg on to the freeway my lower right ball joint broke. Causing my wheel to turn side ways and put a dent in the fender.later after being repaired i saw there was a recall for this, and contacted a dealership and they told me my car was not part of that recall. But the stuff that is described in the recall seemed to fit exactly what happend to my lincoln ls. I was lucky i was on the on ramp and not driving 65-70mph on the freeway other wise i might not be here to day. The tow truck driver told me he has seen that flip cars. Not only that but i have had nothing but problems with that car since i bought it almost 3 years ago. Just about everything that can go wrong has gone wrong. I have spent somewhere between $10,000 to $20,000 on repairing that car.

At about 13,000 miles, my vehicle experienced a front ball joint fracture that resulted in a rather expensive repair to the car which is becoming more prone to such issues.is this ball joint covered by any recall?if it might be, how do i look into it?

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. The contact was driving 5 mph when they heard a noise emitting from the fender. The contact noticed that the ball joint was disconnected. The vehicle was towed to his residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, but the manufacturer was contact and confirmed that the vin did not qualify for nhtsa campaign id number :00v359001(suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 102,000.

I was turning the corner of day avenue and 2nd street sw. As i turned the tire came all the way off. I looked online and researched and seen that this vehicle has been recalled due to the suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint. I need to know what i need to do?nhtsa campaign #00v359001.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle swayed and the contact heard an abnormal sound. The contact parked the vehicle and observed that the axle failed without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 149,825.

I have front ball joint and suspension issues.i looked on line and see there were a recall for my car.the nhtsa campaign id number is 00v359001.i spoke with my local ford motor dealership and they stated there were no recall.i called the nhtsa #800-392-3673 and they could not assist.i have spent over 400.00 already with more work needed for ball joint etc.could someone see if the recall were true for this vehicle?if so, why wasn't my particular car was not included.thanks

The design of the suspension causes premature failure of joints and rubber bushings. The parts can not be serviced (greased) and the rubber dries out to easily leading to wear and failure. In addition the wear parts are now cast (as opposed to pressed) into the larger metal partsso that the owner cannot just replace the bushing or joint, you must now replace the whole assembly resulting in the part only being available at the dealer and costing 20-30 times as much ($20 vs $400-$600). Removing the grease fittings and making ford the only place the parts are available means ford has a healthy replacement parts stream designed into the car. It also means fewer people will fix this problem when it needs to be fixed leading to more unsafe cars being on the road.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. The contact was driving 15 mph when the passenger side front wheel bearing and lower control arm detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic. The mechanic confirmed that the lower control arm needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vin did not qualify for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number: 00v359001 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint). The vin was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 140,000.

My car sways from side to side due to the ball joints not being torqued down properly which can cause loss of control which can end in a fatality. The dealership said their are no recalls yet the number for the recall is 00v359001.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. The contact stated that the suspension was unstable in the front of the vehicle. Without warning, the vehicle veered left or right and force had to be applied to the steering wheel to keep the vehicle centered on the road. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number:00v359001 (suspension). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 141,308.

Steering column experiences vibration at a stand still/ idlingvehicle vibrates.it happens in reverse and in drive.dealer knew it was a design problem, but there wasno remedy.dealer has replaced the following:left exhaust manifold, power steering pump, belt&tensioner, spring in steering column, and revised steering yoke, problem still exists.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. While driving approximately 5 mph, the contact felt a vibration from the floor of the vehicle and noticed an abnormal noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who stated that the lower ball joint and lower control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 157,000.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle veered to the right without warning. My vehicle had a recalled and the work was performed at crouse ford in pennsylvania in june 18 2002. Unfortunate from the information i received on the recall, the initial inspection and work was never done although the recall was said to be satisfied. The recall was for the lower steering suspension torque on the front of the vehicle but the only work was performed based on the dealership notes were the left spindle was replaced. I have called the lincoln center to get them to look into this and the representatives were very short and disrespectful. They would not give me names of immediate supervisors as if they were trying to hide something. I was told the investigation was thoroughly investigated but the representative told me she never read the recall and only took the word of the dealership in spite of the dealership explaining to her what work was done was clearly not on the recall but from a warranty standpoint. Could you please look into this for me or give me a call so i can give you a better explanation. As of now the car isn't safe to drive based on what the recall was initially for even though its 12 years later.

Front bumper air deflector on car has been a major problems sincewe first drove car off the lot.we are unable to drive into any shopping center that has a slight incline without dragging the car.we have repeatedly complained about this and are told by dealer that car does not sit to low.however i can not even go to our neighborhood post office without scraping the undercarriage of car.on several occasions we have had to use wire coathangers to reattach the plastic-like pan in order to drive the vechicle.my husband and i are not "hot-rodders" but 60+ seniors.we drive only on the freeways and in residential areas .as this has been an ongoing problem wefeel that either we have a "lemon" or that there is a major structural defect in the suspension of this vehicle .the day wewere to take delivery of our car the salesperson called to notify us it had to go to the body shop because one of the doors was not aligned properly.in hindsight we wonder if that is where our troubles began and if possibly this particular car was dropped off the carrier?we feel that having to return this car to the dealer 8 timesfor various problems withmileage of only 16000 is excessive.

At highway speedsvehicle swerved violently from side to side.the dealer has reset the steering. However, the problem has continued. Manufacturer hasbeen notified.

Normal driving.

A hollow thunking noise in the front end of my lincoln ls led me to seek a diagnosis and repair estimate from 3 mechanics, including the dealership from which the car was purchased. All 3 agreed that the ball joints and suspension had failed to an extent that the car was "unsafe to drive." i used the middle estimate, offered by a highly reputable mechanic who specializes in high end cars, and spent nearly $2000. The replacement parts included 4 ball joints, 2 outer tie rods, and 4 sway bar links.

In february 2010, at speed of 25-35mph loud squeaking occurred. Took it toford dealership to be checked and discovered it was the lower ball joints, and control arm, i had read there had been a recall. Ford said my 2000 lincoln was not part of the recall so i paid the outlandish price for repair. It is now october 2012 and, once again, i have the same problem. I am sure that if i contact ford, they will say that my car was not part of the recall. It is hard to believe that the same problem could occur with only an additional 32000 miles on the car and in this short amount of time if there was not some underlying problem in the first place. Would you please check into this further for me? thank you.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.while driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle wobbled excessively.the front end began to shimmy after pressure was applied to the brake pedal.there were no prior warnings to these failures.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and the technician stated that the ball joints were worn.the ball joint nuts were also loose and were tightened securely by the technician.the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 00v359001 (suspension:front;control arm;lower ball joint), although the failures were identical.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 98,000 and current mileage was 102,000.

Without any warning, my daughter was driving her 2000 lincoln ls and the left front lower ball joint stud broke and the wheel jammed under the fender and the car swerved to the rt side of the road.i called the local lincoln dealer and they stated that this happens quite often on the lincoln ls ball joints and they sell a $500 part to replace the ball joint and spindle.this is a very dangerous design and flaw if it breaks straight off with no warning.good thing she was only driving 25mph when it happened and not 65 mph, who knows.i can only now worry that the right side might break too without warning??

My 2000 lincoln ls had a safety recall regarding the lower control arm and ball joint assembly in 12/2000.my vehicle was inspected by the dealer at that time but no repair or replacement was done.in 2004, i had the vehicle repaired for a similar issue with the suspension and steering but the dealer did not notify me of any recalls that could have affected the suspension.yesterday, 10/08/2008, i became aware of the recall from a retail store after trying to get my car to align properly, after several failed attempts.i contacted ford customer service at (800) 392-3673 to verify if there was a recall on my vehicle, in which they notified me that south pointe lincoln mercury inc at 945 motor city drive, colorado springs, co 80905, inspected the vehicle in 12/4/2000 but did not repair or replace any parts on the vehicle.i now have an unsafe vehicle that wanders on the road with the potential of my entire front suspension assembly falling off if i drive the car.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.while driving 30 mph, the stud on the lower ball joints failed and the contact lost control of the vehicle.the front passenger side wheel detached and the vehicle was towed to his residence.he called the dealer and was advised to call ford motor company because they would provide him information about nhtsa campaign id number 00v359001 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint).ford stated that the vehicle had previously been inspected for this recall.the current and failure mileages were 74,000.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.the contact stated that both the head and tail lights constantly failed and the front lower ball joints on both sides of the vehicle have failed twice.the dealer replaced the lower control arm and ball joints, but the failure still persists.a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that she would receive a call back.the failure mileage was 92,000 and current mileage was 160,000.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.while driving approximately 20 mph, the front ball joint fractured and the front end of the vehicle fell to the ground.the front end was damaged.the road conditions did not have potholes and was not a factor.the vehicle was towed to a mechanic and is currently being repaired.nhtsa campaign id number 00v359001 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint) is related to the failure.the failure occurred on july 25, 2008, and the contact has owned the vehicle for one year.the current and failure mileages were approximately 46,000.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.while backing out of a parking space, the upper ball joints failed.the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 00v359001 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint), although the failures were identical.the contact paid for the repair work.the failure mileage was 137,000 and current mileage was 138,000.

2000 lincoln ls brought to the dealership to fix a problem with squeaking, still squeaks. They fixed right front control arm ball joint(so many lincoln ls 2000 still on the road with this problem, & no recalls for it?) why? now that i had the front right control arm ball joint replaced back in june, i have the same problem on front left side today, very expensive to fix. I've heard to many complaints about this same problem but no recall???? same problem now on front left side. Very dangerous!

2000 lincoln ls ball joint failure at 65,000 miles.no incidents.cost to repair $1400.

Steering knuckle broke while driving car - was recalled by ford in 2000 for this very thing. Ford is saying the vehicle was repairedby the first owner but i don't think it ever was. Ford dealer used by me for repair said the other one was about to break too. Repaired both of them. I could easily have been killed. Had just pulled off the interstate. Probably would be dead if this had happened 5 minutes earlier.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls.while driving the vehicle in reverse at approximately 5 mph, the front driver's side tire detached from the vehicle.the driver placed the tire back on the vehicle and drove to a local repair shop.the mechanic stated that the front lower ball joints were defective.the vehicle was not repaired and was towed back to the owner's residence.the dealer was not notified.the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls relating to the vehicle; therefore, they were not liable for the repairs.the current and failure mileages were 129,000.

Complaint received via e-mail. My car which had a recall for lower ball joint inspection (not torqued to proper specifications) in november 2000. My complaint is i heard loud clanking noise emitting from front suspension with bad vibration in steering wheel. I brought the car to the dealership, where i purchased the car from to check out the noise. As a mechanic was driving the car into shop, the suspension snapped and the car and suspension fell to ground. I went to dealership and informed them that this was a recall. I was informed that the vehicle's first owner brought the car in for the recalltbs# 00s39 to a lincoln dealership in safford maryland.

Getting worst at higher speed.tires were balanced, but vibration still exist.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. The contact stated the vehicle was previously repaired for nhtsa campaign id number 00v359001 (suspensionfront control arm, lower ball joint). While accelerating from a stop light the contact heard a loud popping noise. The vehicle was driven onto the emergency lane and the contact noticed the front driver's side lower ball joint was fractured. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where it was repaired. Approximately one year later the same failure occurred on the front passenger side lower ball joint. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was 178,000 and the current mileage was 188,000.

I just wanted to make your organization aware of this continued problem.on the 19th of december 2007 my daughters experienced a major breakdown with her 2000 lincoln ls. She was slowing to a stop sign when the passenger front wheel collapsed and the body of the car drop onto the tire. After having the car towed to a midas shop it was discovered that the ball joint nut had worked its way off of the bolt and the bolt then broke under the pressure. After talking with the mechanic staff at the midas shop, (who had never seen anything like this), i decided to look on your website for possible re-call issues for this problem. I was surprised to see that more than 83k of this year & model vehicle had been re-called. I then ran my daughter's car's vin through the system only to find it had not been re-called. I would at this time like to report that her car as i'm sure others that were produced during the same time has the same defect or assembly oversight. Thankfully this incident did not result in an accident i would like to know what recourse mileage: 100677response from ford motor company;we have reviewed your situation, and there are no warranties, recalls or customer satisfaction programs on your vehicle that would provide assistance for this repair.

I have a 2000 lincoln ls, 6 months back took the car to dealership cause of squeaking noises, dealer fixed right control arm ball joint...... Two months later having same problem only on left side, i noticed it out of nowhere, the car started jerking to the other direction when the steering wheel was still straight....very scary when driving with family......why has there been no recall for this problem? they say my car is not apart of the recall, but im very afraid to keep driving the car, unsure of what will happen in the future...i notice alot of complaintswith this same problem as the ball joint recall for 2000 ls but lot of lincoln ls 2000 not on recall, why?

I purchased this vehicle from a dealer ship in iowa 30 days ago and it has been in the shop ever since with the same problem as i have read here

Dt:while driving thevehicle pulled slightly to the right.the consumer could also hear a noise while driving on rough roads and after driving over bumps in the road.the consumer believes the problem is the ball joints but is unsure whether it is the upper or lower ball joints.the consumer has not taken this vehicle to the dealer for repair.

Turned sterring wheel to change lanes. Left front balljoint snapped into causing left front wheel to turn sideways which caused loss of steering resulting in loss of control of vehicle causing vehicle to spin into and jump guardrail causing numerous amounts of damage.there was a recall in dec. Of 2000 to chech torque of balljoints which i hadcompleted the same month. I was definitly lucky i did not get killed as i ended up across two lanes of i75 .i have talked to several bodyshop managers and they each have had several instences of the balljoints snapping off on these vehicles. There seems to be structural defect here that lincoln knows about, but is not doing anything to correct.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving on a dry highway at 65 mph, the nuts attaching the left ball joints loosened and fell off.this incident resulted to a fractured ball joint stud.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence.the nut was recovered and placed back on the vehicle just long enough to be driven to the dealership.there was an nhtsa recall, # 00v359001 regarding the suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint. The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. The front end alignment was performed on the vehicle and it isn't operating normally. While driving 25mph and making a turn, the vehicle began shaking as though it had a flat tire. When observing the vehicle, the tires were not damaged. The vehicle began steering to the left on its own. The service engine and airbag lights were illuminated. The dealer stated that the ball joints need to be replaced. The contact stated that nhtsa campaign id:00v359001 is related to the failure and repairs recommended by the dealer; however, his vin is not a part of the recall. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 86,000. The vin, engine size and number of cylinders are unavailable.

Control arm and lower ball joints need replacing on vehicle (i have two quotes) - potentially hazardous to drive- same year included in recall (82000 plus vehicles).

I had two front new tires put on on 08-15-05 and the repair found that my right front lower ball joint was damaged.he attempted to look for parts but could not find them.in looking on internet, i found a recall notification on my make and model vehicle (2000 lincoln ls - suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint).i was told that my vehicle was not on recall but find it ironic that it has the same problem.

Safety defect.. Defective lower ball joints 2000 lincoln lswith 85,000 miles.while driving the car it pulls to the right and you feel unsafe steering the car. My 2000 lincoln ls was taken in to get a misfire fixed. I noticed the front end of the vehicle felt loose, so i asked to have it looked at. The dealer said it was the ball joints and that they were a safety concern. To fix this problem, he said it would cost $1,200 dollars. Prior to taking my car to the dealer i read about the recall for the front end ball joints. When i told the dealership, they checked the computer and said my car did not qualify for the recall.i checked this out myself and found out there is a recall for that specific problem, however my vin number is not included. This problem creating a great concern for me, and now fear driving my family and friends in this car.at this time i am unable to pay the $1200 to fix this problem. I believe that ford motor company should pay to have this safety problem fixed on my car.

Although the experience is different than the toyotas that accelerated to 100+ mph it may be able to provide some insight upon what is going on with the current problem at hand. First i have to note that my vehicle does not have a check engine light on and seems to be in good working order being that i drive it every day to and from school. I am very attached to my car and service it regularly. When i start my car put it in gear and press on the gas the car will start to rev uncontrollably and accelerate, i have to jam on the breaks to stop the vehicle while this is happening.when i jam the transmission into park the car continues to rev without input from me but the acceleration stops. The car has been to the dealership for a fuel injection service because i thought it may be the throttle getting stuck. To no avail it didnt solve my problem and i hope it can provide some insight to save lives.

Timing belts had to be replaced it was $3500.oo. August 2008 transmission had to be rebuilt n updated cost was $1989.00. August 2013 both lower ball joints was replaced the right outer tyrod and left inner tyrod was replaced had to get new brakes and tires n it cost me $1200.00. I gave $5000.00 for the car so i have a grand total of $11,689.00. Nothing but a piece of junk and now my security system is going crazy it goes off every few times u open the door so im sure its a electrical problem and thats lovely.

The window safety lock does not operate, and i am unable to control the left rearwindow from the driver's control panel

The decorative cap that covers the lug nuts swelled which made it difficult to change the tires.the wrench that came with the vehicle could not remove the decorative cap. Please provide further details.*nlm

My 2000 lincoln ls has had numerous mechanical problems resulting in thousands of dollars in repairs. The car is in the shop right now having the transmission replaced.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

I bought my lincoln ls in august in september it started messing up when i would get on the interstate it would stop in the middle of driving and the steering wheel will not move so that i can pull over it is very dangerous.

On three occasions, my 2000 lincoln ls (v6) had a sudden acceleration.the first two incidents happened on the highway.the last incident was on 03-29-04 in the city limit.i was driving down the street doing about 30 mph when the traffic light turned red and the cars in front of me came to a stop.when i began to take my foot off of the accelerator, i felt the accelerator pedal go downward.the car began to increase speed without my foot on the accelerator.i placed my foot firmly on the brake pedal but the car would not stop.i tried pressing the brake pedal down as much as i could but the car would not stop.i shift the gear into park and then the car stopped.

Engine has developed an inconsistant misfire at idle, during acceleration, and when it lobs along in overdrive.recently the the engine stalled while passing a slow moving vehicle on a 2 lane road.i coasted to the shoulder and restarted the vehicle without any problem, however it still continued to mis-fire at random.sometimes during a turn at intersections it stalls and then regains power and lunges forward (almost like a transmission slip). Dealer can not determine the problem(s), thus they can not fix it.the last time i took the car in for service one of the sales staff informed me that lincoln has been aware of problems with the ls-v8 for a while.that's great, put some more poor performing, unsafe cars out there to sell to unsuspecting consumers!i'm forwarding a copy of this complaint to my attorney should this problem not get fixed proptly or something happens to me or my family as a result of this problem, lincoln can be prepared to hear from them.

On saturday february 06,2016 at 12 a.m. I started my car and it sounded normal. When i placed my car in reverse it started to idle very highly and was reading 3000 rpm although i was still holding my foot on the brake. I placed the car in park and turned it off.i started the car again and it sounded normal until i placed it in drive and started accelerating.the car was pulling as if it wanted to take off during braking. When i removed my foot from the brake pedal the car accelerated on it's own. I drove 1.3 miles never once placing my foot on the gas pedal. Every time i came to a red light the car was reluctant to stop. There is nothing in the way of the gas or brake pedal and upon exiting the vehicle there was a smell of plastic or rubber burn off. This started in an emergency room parkinglot and continued through the city streets until i arrived home. My car only has 98,208.1 miles on it and i am the third owner. I have looked up this problem in many forums and have noticed that it is consistently being ignored and labeled as driver error. However, my foot was flat on the floor and only touched the brake pedal to come to a reluctant stop.

At any given timevehicle can accelerate to an unknown speed without warning.

My 2000 lincoln ls v8 frequently accelerates on it's own.there is no response to braking and putting it in park or neutral, the rpm rises to 3k.it only stops eventually on its own or after it's been turned off for a little while.recently, this has caused the temperature gauge to red-line.the engine does not actually overheat, but the car reacts as such and power to the engine is reduced.my local lincoln dealer has attempted to repair the vehicle 3 times without success.they were only able to reproduce the behavior on one occasion, but still could not identify the problem.i've read a few related complaints from other ls owners regarding this unexpected acceleration.this could possibly hit someone or something when attempting to come to a stop.the brakes need to be applied really hard to bring to a stop when this occurs.

The contact owns a 2000 lincoln ls. While slowing down the vehicle, it surged and accelerated unexpectedly several times and the tachometer increased. The interior rear-view mirror burst and leaked liquid inside thecar while it was being driven. The liquid etched holes in the console and around the shifter. According to the jaguar owners website, this liquid is toxic. There are numerous complaints regarding this mirror made by magna donnelly, model 011530. Magna donnelly went bankrupt and sybesma electronics is handling further sale of these mirrors.this model of mirror was installed in lincolns, ford 150s, jaguar, acura, chrysler sebrings and other vehicles and there are reported instances of them "exploding," leaking and cracking. I replaced the mirror with an older design, but believe there are many more of these mirrors still in use. After all, ford denies there has been a problem with them, despite jaguar having issued a recall, according to information on the jaguar owners website.

The rear window was leaking and the dealer fixed it.

All four windows on my 2000 lincoln ls have failed and crashed into the door well.the rear windows have failed twice. Lincoln said that they have no record of this problem and refuses to comp for the repair costs.

I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my rear window fell down, when i went to try and put it up, it sounded as if the window was being smashed.

Power window failed within a week after warrenty dealer refused to repair eventhough this model has well documented history of such failures.

While driving, windshield wipers quit working and both washer came off causing wiper fluid to spray onto the windshield causing zero visibility, wiper delays were inoperative and the push button control did not release any fluid, on the way home the washers periodically sprayed fluid on their own, dealer is going to replace the wiper switch.

My wife reported this incident yesterday, but without the v.i.n.motor trend's car of the year had a major failure while i was driving, fortunately in a parking lot, at a very low speed.there was a spontaneous loss of control (there was no contact with anything else), followed by partial detachment of the front left wheel from the vehicle.this occurred as a result of fracture of a bolt securing the lower contol arm.the vehicle was rendered undriveable, as the wheel was turned 90 degrees.obviously, a similar incident at a higher rate of speed would likely have resulted in major injury.i thought it was important to report this to you because, incredibly, it is ford motor co.'s policy not to do so automatically!

My 2000 lincoln ls has allready bad front wheel bearings at 42000 miles. The left set has been replaced a month ago (seems that the bearings were not properly greased at assembly plant) at a cost of over $200.00 and now the right hand bearing is failing.this failure could cause the wheel to come off at great peril to the persons in the vehicle (interstate at 70 mph)
