Takata recall. I was driving 35mph going down main road in an office park. Other vehicle failed to yield right of way and came thru stop sign. I had almost zero time to react. I slammed on brakes trying to prepare for impact. We hit. My driver's side front bumper hit his passenger side front. His airbag deployed, mine did not. Police, firefighters, and ambulance personnel stated it should have. I have had neck surgery in the past, with 4 fusions. I am extremely sore. The airbag could have helped me to not be jerked around so much. Thankfully, my car is an older, well built vehicle so damage is minimal. Window knocked off track, bumper damage that will need to be sanded and painted, headlight cracked.
While pulling into parking lot air bags deployed. Did not hit anything. Passenger's side window broke in the process. The driver's arm also broke. Could not steer vehicle due to air bag being wrapped around steering wheel. Vehiclehit a concrete barrier due to lack of steering. The seat belts left very bad bruises.
Consumer was traveling about 30-35 mph when another vehicle hit it head-on. Upon impact, airbags deployed but didn't inflate. Consumer has police report and will contact lincoln.
Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration resulting in collision, no deployment of the air bag during impact. *mjs

While the vehicle was parked the horn started blowing for no apparent reason. The dealer/manufacturer are aware of the problem. The problem has not been corrected.the motor stopped no power steering, no power brakes.also the lights went out completely.the vehicle has been in the shop 5 times for this problem.owner has not driven the vehicle since.
Vehicle has been in shop a total of 8 times to date with the same symptom.motor spins, won't crank.service has replaced many different components.continues to fail.
Ongoing starting problem; vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on four occasions, and vehicle still remained in sho.; also, vehicle having problems with brakes making noise whenapplied. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that was normal for all vehicles. Seeking help from nhtsa in this matter.

-thee contact has a 1997 lincoln continental.the contact stated that he was having problems with both traction control, and the anti lock brakes.he has had 3 failures of the traction control and the antilock braking system.the manufacturer no longer makes the replacement parts, and one can only get used replacement parts. The current and failure mileage were 70,000.
The contact owns a 1997 lincoln continental. The contact stated that the transmission failed at 40,000 miles and had to be replace. Also, the contact mentioned that while driving 35 mph the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnose that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.
4.6 litre v8 engine of my 1997 lincoln continental having 58,600 miles failed, and had to be completely replaced costing in excess of $5,000.this engine was maintained according to factory recommendations, and i have documentation evidencing oil and filter changes were performed accordingly.ford motor company refused to extend the 50,000 mile warranty of this engine that has required that i filea lawsuit for recovery of compensory damages.
Coolant leaked into the passenger compartment which caused fumes to fill up the interior of the vehicle. This caused the consumer to have visibility problems. The windshield was severely fogged up.
Complaint against motor craft replacement parts. This is the second time i have received defective parts from motor craft.i presentlyhave a 97 lincoln cont. And recently had my a/c condenser replaced along witha tune-up. In the process, the thermostat was replaced. It was a genuinemotor craft part.after installation, the car overheated because the new thermostat was defective.my mechanic replaced it with another new thermostat and the car over heated again. The second thermostat was faulty. The mechanic was not upset because he stated ford/lincolnpays mechanics for labor whenever a replacement part is defective.so, mechanics don't care, only the consumer suffers. One mechanic admitted this happens quite often, the supply people will simply place a defective part back on the shelf.the result is dealers want to discourage people from repairing fords/lincolns by making consumers go back for repeated service calls (motor craft thermostat).
3.86 liter engine , 6 cylinder, head gasket has blown out, possibly causing other related damage.
This is a saftey issuse the car dies while in the middle of driving. This is at leastthe18th time. Ford claims they can not find the problem . Can someone help before this car causes an accident or death.
My car has stalled on me and others at least 15 times .i have stalled in intersections .i have no steering or brakes when this happenes. The dealer has had many many times to fix the car and has not. We have asked for a lincoln rep and have been refused. I was almost killed in this car and i am getting no help. The dealer will not help. Ford will not talk to us. Someone needs to help before there is a death from this car.
The heater stays on cold so we can't use the defroster and it has become a safety issue.dt
Tire went to pieces (michelin xw4 radial), when lifted with the jack the jack was weak and bent, examination of the tires showed that one other tire was about to fail with the metal rod exposed in the inside. *mjs
My 1997 lincoln continental was damaged in a minor accident. The repairs required replacement of the front headlamps. Both lincoln and our dealer have informed us that headlights for the 1997 are on national backorder and will not be available for at least a month. Headlights are an essential safety item.we would be ticketed if we attempted to drive without working headlights.it seems incredible to me that replacement headlights are unavailable.*nlm
Vehicle has a smell of raw gasoline. Sometimes when consumer drives the vehicle. This has made him and wife sick.
Engine stalls during driving. Stalling occurred 2 times; 1st when leaving a parking space in a parking lot,2nd while driving in traffic on the freeway. After the stall occurs, engine cracks/no start.let sit for 3-5 minutes and engine will start and the auto functions normally.engine acts similar to running out of gas or misfires causing an abrupt jolt and dies.
While traveling gas gauge gives wrong reading. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.
The inside lights of my 1997 lincoln continental which was purchased on feb. 28, 1997, started coming on while we were driving the car and wouldn't go out.it also occurred when we turned off the car.we would turn off one inside light and another would come on and we had to play around with it to try to get it off.this resulted in our battery being drained several times.we took it to a repair shop and on 1-19-05 they had to replace the light control module, the part alone cost us $556.42 and an additional $90 to find out that the module was bad and had to be replaced.our mechanic advised us that there had been safety recalls on the light control modules for 1995 and 1996 lincoln continental cars like our's and they expected that a similar safety recall should be done for the 1997 lincoln continental which is the one we own.the problem began occuring this past summer around july 2004 and has continued on numerous occasions where we have had to jump start the car for a temporary fix.
The contact owns a 1997 lincoln continental. The contact stated that the transmission failed at 40,000 miles and had to be replace. Speedometer is difficult to seed during daylight hours.
The contact owns a 1997 lincoln continental. The contact started the vehicle and the vehicle lunged forward abnormally, while still in park. The check engine lamp was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the pressure regulator solenoid and the neutral safety switch were defective. As a result, the park pawl abutment bracket needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 96v166000 (power train:automatic transmission:gear position indication (prndl). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 172,000.
While driving 55 mph the transmission suddenly slipped out of gear and the vehicle coasted to a stop.the previous transmission was replaced for same problem. This is the second transmission that popped out of gear around 30,000 miles.the mechanic indicated that this problem will happen again but do not know cause of the problem. Vehicle brought from carmax.*nlm....
Consumer complains that speedometer difficult to read in daylight.
While driving 10 mph the vehicle lost power. The dealership serviced the vehicle and replaced the automatic transmission (part # f702-7000-brm).
The vehicle's transmission failed without warning. The dealer stated that an internal break of metal in the transmission had occurred.
The cruise control was engaged, the driver had just touched the resume button when the motor made a wild revving and racing noise, and with that, all the gears were gone. It was as if the vehicle was in neutral. The vehicle was towed to the nearest ford dealer who couldn't see vehicle for at least a week. Consumer considered this to be a transmission failure.
The first transmission failed at 55000 miles and was covered under warranty. The second transmission is failing and needs to be replaced. The second transmission only has 35000 miles. Both transmissions failed long before they should need replacing. I feel that there is something wrong with the car that is causing the transmissions to fail. I shouldnt have to pay for poor manufacturing, defective replacement parts or incompetent work.

Gear in back of left front tire cracked - erratic activation of anti lock braking
Occasionaly brakes erraticallt don't work-requires constant pressure-accompanied by a load thud.
When applying pressure to the brake pedal anti lock braking system made a groaning noise, causingbrake pedal to pump. Also, caused the vehicle to pass the desired stopping point.

The brake rotors require replacement every 15000 miles.nlm
Brake lines were so corroded that they failed, leaving me without brakes.my mechanic contacted ford to get replacement brake lines and was told that they are not manufactured anymore. My mechanic had to manufacture his own brake lines.cause of the line failure seems to be proximity to the muffler causing heat and water to corrode the lines.i have the old brake lilnes available for inspection.
Whenconsumer turns vehicle power steering goes, and he would have to turn vehicle off to restart forsteering to go back tonormal. Consumertook vehicle todealership, and mechanic said that they couldn't find the cause.the dealer could not determine the cause of the problelm and the vehicle is unsafe.
Anti theft alarm would activate on its own - while parked in garage at shopping centers, in the driveway.this was reported to dealer in june 2000 and was told if we can not duplicate the problem we can not do anything about it.during 2001 and 2002 the problem worsened often going off 5 to 6 times per day.hatfield is no longer in business so car was taken to krieger ford on sawmill blvd. In columbus, ohio.they had the car for 4 days and the alarm did not activate so "can't duplicate so can't do anything about it."we picked the car up and 4 times that day the alarm activated on its own.so, i called ron rush motors on morse road and they had heard of the problem so took the car there the first part of july.they had the car for 2 weeks and finally found the problem in the steering column to the tune of $270.i feel that this problem was brought to the attention of a ford dealer while the car was covered with warranty and i should not be responsible for the charge.i have been in contact with the lincoln customer relations department to no avail.i was told "the district manager made the decision not to pay and i have no recourse."i tried repeatedly to talk to the district manager and i cannot get this number.now to the question of mirrors:the right exterior mirror will not move up and down and the interior rear view mirror is dark gray at the top.this happened in july 2002.i parked the car in the garage and the next morning the mirror was the dark gray and full of bubbles.i feel this creates a dangerous driving situation.the price quoted to fix this mirror is $570.once again i contacted customer relations to no avail.i do not feel a car with only 36,000 miles should be having all these problems.also, it has taken me a year to get the ac working and we have had the car back only one and half months since repair and once again it is throwing warm air.
Repeat failures, repaired 08/30/2000, more failures, repaired 10/21/2000, more failures.no safety defect mentioned in summary.
While in "reverse only" power steering assist "sometimes" is lost. If i stop, turn off the ignition, restart and go forward the problem goes away. The dealer has tried several times to fix the problem to no avail.

While driving a noise came from the steering wheel when making a right turn. Also, vehicle had to be started several times beforepower assist pump would operate. Owner states while driving down road the tie rod end broke. Owner notes when he went to look at the problem he noticed that there was no lug: nut holding rod.
When turning there's a groaning noise. Left outer tie rodseized to a lubrication issue.dealership replaced the both outer tie rods.
Tie rod ends replaced, front end realigned, steering making noise and dealer claimed that steering rack needs replaced to cost $500.00, dealer claimed repairs not subject to warrantly nor recall.upon research, i find that lincoln has issued service bulletins for both defects.i paid for the work to replace the tie rod ends and have not have had the steering work done as i think it should be lincoln's responsibility.these failures were at low miles 51,408 and because of the service bulletins, lincoln is aware of these problems.
Steering rack is cracked, could lead to an accident. Dealer ask not to drive it

There is a tsb #bc3422972301 item#sb051461 relating to my problem. I havent read the entire copy becase i havent one to read but the brief discription on your web site describes "premature wear of front inner tires". I experienced this on my car to the point that the left front tire lost all air. The car had been taken in for service at 22,559 miles and the tires were inspected then. In less than 4000 miles they wore to the point that they were dangerous. I feel that a recall should be done to return all vehicales with this problem that haventbeen adjusted to new allignment specs.. The fix for this problem should be payed for by ford not the owner/drivers. Peoeples lives should not be put at risk in this manner.( dot number: na tire size: na )
Front end suspension out of alignment.

Within a 66,000 mile period consumer has replacedall four tires four times due to premature wearing.please give any further details.
We had a very unusual tire wear pattern that resulted in two new tire replacements. After making several inquiries at the dealership and at ford motor company,i became very suspicious that the tire wear was due to a design problem that is characteristic of lincolns with this front end design. I submitted a customer review request to ford via the dealership, and was told that there are no progams or recalls for this concern. I no longer own the vehicle, but am concerned that this is a very dangerous condition which should be investigated. I have pictures of the tire wear and one of the tires in my possession.

I am on my 5th set of tires in 58000 miles.dealer refuses to do anything and will not have factory rep. See car even though i have requested same.ford has not done anything even after several calls and letters.last tire failure resulted in car leaving road and going into ditch.my pregnant daughter was with me and was very shaken.reason given by ford for premature tire wear is that i am an aggressive driver.i am a 55yr. Old businessman not a drag racing kid.they have never seen me drive but can deduce from the front tire wear that i am aggressive.i use cruise control always and do most of my traveling on interstate roads.even though the vehicle is within ford's recomended camber settings, i am going to go to a private garage and experiment with different settings.i can not put up with tires that fail after 10000 miles.you have no warning because the failure is where the tread meets the inside sidewall and can not be seen unless the car is on a lift.
Consumer had foundbig bubbles on side oftires. First, on right rear tire, and currentlywas happening onothertires.consumer did not know why it was happening.please provide more information. 2 sets of front tires have worn out at 17000mi & 32000mi & 3rd set is showing wear at37600mi. Wear was to steel belts were tread meets inside sidewall. Can not see unless on lift. Went to 2 garages and both confirm alignment ok. Car dealer said this is "normal" and you have to watch it.the cost of replacing tires is not major concern. Vehicle is used at interstate speeds most of time and if i should fail to notice the wear which i can't readily see, a serious accident could occur. I don't think 15000 mi. Should be considered normal. I would like to receive a copy of your service bulletin nos. Bc1021297230 & bc3422972301.( dot number: unknown tire size: p225/60r16 )
