Tl-the contact owns a 2005 lincoln aviator. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the air bag deployed independently onto her face. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000. Djr

Driver side air bag deployed with no impact of any kind.car was started and air bag deployed.

Lincoln aviator 2006 crashed into brick flower box wall on right side causing air bag to deploy on passenger side with no passenger and not on the drivers side where needed. After ford fixed it ???? seat belt warnings come on even though everybody is strapped in. Unable to prove if airbag problem is solved unless an accident happens, then it to late.

The contact owns a 2005 lincoln aviator.the contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward without warning and crashed into the preceding vehicle.the road conditions were dry.the vehicle continued to accelerate and push the vehicle in front.the contact had to release theemergency brake in order for the vehicle to stop.there were no injuries.the vehicle would not restart, and was towed.the mechanic could notduplicate the failure.however, the vehicle needed a new battery.a police report was filed.the current and failure mileages were 54,000.

I have the same cracking problem with the back gate which resulted in the breaking of hinges. Also a known defect in using defective parts in the engine such as timing chain cassettes and tensioner. Ford knew about the problem and issued an technical bulletin on it but never fixed the problem. The mechanic told me he repaired this very frequently for this engine

The vehicle began with problems that seemed related to the battery. It jerks when accelerating between 40 and 60 mph. Problem codes keep changing and check engine light remains on. First codes indicated cam/crank shaft, then misfiring, then crankshaft, even after cam and crank shaft sensors were replaced.jerking continues to worsen. Ford 'claims' the code was not in their system, initially. Problem seems to be causing many things at once to go bad: battery, compressor, fuel getting to engine, etc. Problems have occurred over several months.

The gear knob on my 2005 lincoln aviator broke causing the vehicle to get stuck in reverse.this is a major safety hazard. This appears to be a poor design by ford.based on my research, several lincoln aviator owners are having the same problem.ford needs to do a recall and fix this issue.

I have a 2005 lincoln aviator and the shifter, transmission, and ball joints, drive shaft all fell apart at 56,000 miles my wife and 2 young children were in the vehicle when the drive shaft came loose almost causing us to be rear ended by a 18 wheeler something has to be done. I have read thousands of complaints from others having similar complaints.

Owner of 2005 lincoln aviator.i was not able to get the gear shift out of park.i had the aviator towed to a family member's automotive garage and was told that i will need to have the entire gear shift replaced.upon doing some research, it seems that this is a very common problem in this year, make, and model.i have read endless testimonies from other vehicle owners with the exact dispute.the part and labor will cost me approximately $1100.00 at my family's garage, one can only guess the dollar amount will double at the local dealership.my car is driveable, however, when in park, i will have to put my emergency brake on.i was also informed that the gear shift, if bumped, may move out of park even without the key in the ignition. I am appalled that ford/lincoln motor company has not taken responsibility of the defected mechanism.it is unacceptable and raises many questions on how important vehicle safety is to ford/lincoln motor company, not to mention a total inconvenience financially!this is my fourth vehicle from ford/lincoln motor company and i highly doubt i will purchase another based on the company's lack in addressing the matter.i am a mother of one child and now do not feel secure driving a vehicle that i once felt very protected in.

The plastic gear shift unlock lever, which is inside of a metal housing underneath the gear shift knob broke off.it is a very poor design and is a safety hazard, because one cannot move the gear shift without the release being raised.

Leftside rear axle starting coming out of the vehicle while moving.

The contact owns a 2005 lincoln aviator.the contact stated that the gear shifter detached from the vehicle while shifting into reverse.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 72,000.the vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2005 lincoln aviator. The contact stated that the vehicle would not shift out of park and while attempting to shift it out of park, the gear shift detached from the vehicle. An authorized dealer stated that the gear shifter would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mleages were 78,000.

Shift lever became stuck in drive in our garage. We were not able to move the shifter out of drive to park or any other gear. We were able to turn the car engine off but the key remained lodged in the column. This occurred on a 2005 aviator as was discussed in another report in the database. The dealer has quoted a $950 repair charge. No coverage by ford/lincoln.

Transmission shift problems= we where ok when truck was on garage and just use it as weekends, but everything change when we stared to use it on daily basics transmission begin to slip and now lately begin to pull and back and forward and o/d sensor light up and afraid the rear shift go off any minute...and add up the rear panel just broke for the 2th time...it begins to make funny noise on rear axle,i very disappointed after paid closed to 20,000 dollars i want to return it to dealer but nobody wants to take charge.no fire or property damage but i not waiting to happen to me.

The contact owns a 2005 lincoln aviator. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway on a small incline in light snow, the vehicle rolled away in reverse and crashed with another vehicle. There were no occupants in either of the vehicles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they found the gear shift selector has dislodged itself. The gear shift selector was replaced 3 previous times due to it becoming stuck in the drive position. The manufacturer was contacted and an investigator was sent to examine the failure. The gear shift selector was replaced a fourth time under warranty. The manufacturer would take no liability for the failures and there were no recalls on the vehicle. Repairs were made at the owner's expense. The failure persisted after the gear shift selector was replaced a third time within a year. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000 and the failure was 76,508. The vin was not available and there was a police report filed.

My aviator is making a whinning/siren sound in the rear end at accelerating, decelerating and cruising speeds.

Both back wheel bearings fail. Under normal driving conditions. Almost lost back wheel while driving. Car develops death wobble and looks like your drunk driving.

This vehicles steering shudders while making low speed turns, usually left turns. Dealers has bled the system once and it seemed to correct the issues. After about 3 weeks the steering began shuddering again while making left turns and even lane changes would cause the steering wheel to shudder. Upon second trip to dealer they stated they could not replicate the problem and the shudder was normal for the vehicle.

Vehicle steering shudders/shake while making left turn.has taken vehicle back twice and the dealer can't find the problem. Second trip dealer bled the fluids and vehicle still has the problem.feels as though i might lose control of the steering.

My power steering goes out, at start up the power steering is not working, can cut the car off and back on and it is okbeen to the shop 3 times changed hose, modular, and steering gear, and today it happened again, also there is a crack down the middle of my back hatch under the glass, i have read 4 other peoples complaints that said the same thing in the same place.

A vertical crack on plastic covering of hatch cover. Starts at the lincoln medallion that is cut into the plastic piece and extends vertically to bottom edge. I took it to a lincoln dealer. Estimate was $500 for a piece of plastic that measures approximately 12 inches high and the width of the hatch door. This is definitely a design error on the part of ford. The service manager told me that he sees a lot of this same complaint and it is not covered by ford. A $42,500 automobile with a defect in design that results in an unsightly split in plastic piece wanting an outrageous fee of $500 to replace the piece. Do you think i will ever by another ford product. Not in this lifetime! thanks ford who always puts quality first.

I have a lincoln aviator and ford refuses to fix the liftjar crack in the back it is a concern since there is so much rain in florida how do i know what leaks in there and its their defect just because its not a safety issue doesn't mean they shouldn't honor the fix its ridiculous i made numerous calls as well as a dealership trying to help me out but ford refused.

Design flaw. See nhtsa service bulletin number: 0485, date: 1/1/05, item number: 10008546. Design flaw acknowledged by ford/mercury.repaired once by dealership, but now refuses to make repair after structure has again cracked allowing water access to structure, possibly causing electrical shortage, which could possibly cause accident if driving. Currently applying tape to body structure. Filed complaint with bbb, but negative results. Stated that even though a design flaw, their regulations & policies do not cover the above parameters unless within the warranty limit of vehicle.

While parked at the gas station getting ready to pump gas the rear window exploded, glass shattered everywhere, left hinge cracked and frame around liftgate bend and curled up.my rear liftgate has the same cracked as previously reported.i replaced the entire liftgate in 2011 & on the new liftgate the same crack came back

The contact owns a 2005 lincoln aviator. The contact stated that while trying to open the liftgate, the liftgate panel split in half. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic or dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 72,000.

The hinges that hold the liftgate glass have broken and are no longer holding the rear liftgate window in place properly. I can no longer open the window because i will not be able to close it. I took it to the dealer and event though they acknowledge the fact that this is an issue on lincoln aviators and that they have had to fix numerous aviator in the past for this same issue they will not cover the repair if the vehicle is out of warranty.

The rear lift door has developed a crack just below the window allowing water to enter the door. I have seen several similar complaints of this problem. Design flaw.

I was driving along and suddenly heard a loud crack coming from the rear of the vehicle.something likethe sound of a rock hitting it.later i was checking around for signs of damage and found that the upperliftgate section had cracked completely in half from the emblem by the window down to the lower edge ofthe panel.

Rear liftgate panel cracked vertically next to emblem under liftgate glass after warm day and a cool night. I called the dealer and they told me that they can repair it at my cost and they were not responsible for the repairs even though they were aware of this happening to numerous aviator's and mountaineer and it happened through no fault of my own, and they believe the part to be defective.

Rear panel has a crack in it.... Suv was never in a accident...it just appeared. I had my truck at a lincoln dealership for other things and asked the manager about this crack... He told me that i am not the only person that has complained and the company knows about it but won't do anything until that have enough people that complain.... I purchased this truck for not pennies and expect someone to rectify the problem. Unfortunately nothing has been done and i am very disappointed in the manufacturer... They should stand by the product they sell...very upset.

The lift gate cracked right down the center for no apparent reason.one second the vehicle was fine, the next second, the entire lift gate frame split in two.see thousands of reports of it on google but wondering why there is no recall?

I noticed a crack along the rear hatchdoor lift gate along the bezel or emblem that runs vertically down the lift gate, it was bought to my attention form other aviator owners with the same exact defect on their rear hatch door liftgates, that this is a defect all aviator have.i started to notice other aviator and sure enough they all have the same crack, my neighbor was able to det his fixed with the lincoln dealer in pembroke pines, who acknowledges this as being a common defect.although i went to the dealer, and they were willing to cover part of the cost, but i will still be held responsible for a portion, i felt this should not be my responsibility but lincolns for the poor design. I also did research online and did find others with the same situation, with the conclusion that the defect is caused by stress on the door, from opening and closing, and many of these cracked panels have been replaced. Lincoln is not taking full responsibility because it has not become a recall. I think it is about time to acknowledge this as a manufacturer defect due to the excess number of vehicles with the same defect going back to 2003 models.the lincoln aviator models has a defect along the rear hatch door lift gate, the a straight crack appears after.

A 6 inch crack developed at rear center tailgate body panel made out of plastic below the rear window. There had been reports that the rear window could fall out and internal tailgate components could be damaged due to water entry from the crack. This appears to be a common problem from my research.

Rear liftgate on 2005 aviator developed a crack next to lincoln emblem.was told that it was not covered by lincoln dealer.this defect was seen on numerous other aviators and appears to be a defect.

On my 2005 lincoln aviator the rear panel below rear window has a vertical crack the entire length of the panel on theright of the lincoln emblem.. It happened after a hot day and a cool night.lincoln was contacted and they would not help with this obvious defect and the truck isout of warranty period.

Rear plastic litigate applique broke off hitting a passenger car's windshield.the windshield cracked.this the third piece failure.the lincoln was traveling west on the dulles greenway.

I noticed a crack on the back panel of my tailgate.there was no accident or incident and since then i have noticed at least 3 other cars in my small town with the same defect.i have written to ford and gotten no response.from what i have seen on the internet, this is not an isolated problem.i feel that ford/lincoln should recall the affected models of car (including ford explorers) and make these repairs.the mechanism that keeps my tailgate window closed and locked is also broken and i think it is directly related to the crack in the tailgate.this compromises our safety in the car by making the car unable to be locked properly.someone could easily get into the car from the tailgate and steal anything in the car, steal the car itself, and pose an immediate threat to our personal safety.

2005 lincoln aviator has crack in rear applique panel.this crack occurred with no accident just appeared after a frost.this problem was relayed to ford? lincoln home office but nothing was done to repair the problem by ford.the leak will destroy the inside panel and will eventually rot the back tailgate.

I purchased a 2005 lincoln aviator brand new. I have the same problem as many others with the crack. Told ford lincoln mercury about it the first cold season for the car, 2005/2006. Although i heard and saw several other complaints for the same issue ford has done nothing. Now the gate won?t close, the window won?t close because the mechanism has corroded allowing it to open on its own. There is no security with the vehicle now and this is extremely dangerous! even better my glass company ordered replacement 07/31/2014 and i still have not seen it. I spoke with [xxx],and their supervisor at ford customer care relations who was of no help. They can't answer when the glass will come in. They give dates it may be available but will not guaranty. Owner of 2005 lincoln aviator (acquired late 2006)kept exclusively in garage. Currently has 39,500 miles. A vertical crack has recently appeared near the emblem (right side) on the rear liftgate panel below the rear window. The entire liftgate portion which contains the window and the emblem has to be replaced. The vehicle is no longer under warranty, and as previously stated the dealership states that ford/lincoln will not stand behind its vehicle. Also, it seems the crack may prevent thefrom closing securely.

One morning i noticed that a crack had appeared on the back of my vehicle on the lift gate right by the lincoln emblem. I called and spoke to the dealership and they advised me it was a common occurrence that happens for no reason on lincoln aviators of certain years. Now all of a sudden the lift gate hinge on the right side has slightly shifted and i have not even opened it in months. This i was notified is also another common defect on these vehicles! i literally am scared to even open the back lift gate now and nothing has happened to cause either of these issues.

When purchased used 2 yrs old [xxx], i noticed a crack in the middle of the liftgate.i have owned this vehicle for almost 7yrs and have taken very good care of it, but i now have 3 cracks in the liftgate.it seems to be very thin across the bottom of the back window and every time you open and close the window, it puts stress across the bottom of it.this should be a recall because there are a lot of other owners with the same problem and obviously this is a defect!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).updated 4/19/2016

No accident or anything.all of a sudden a vertical crack down the center of the back plastic piece on the right side of the emblem.the window hinges also started to fall apart.funniest thing is that i can only purchase the parts from ford and there is a different price for the right hinge ($40.00) and the left hinge ($46.95) wtf?of course they are just plastic pieces also...sure wish ford would take responsibility for this one - i mean page after page of the same complaint for a very expensive suv - you would think they would fix it!!

The contact owns a 2005 lincoln aviator. The contact stated that the rear hatch was cracked underneath glass hinge. The dealer was informed about the problem and stated that they have not heard this happen on any other lincoln models. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the currentmileages were 58990.

The lift gate on my 2005 lincoln aviator cracked just above the emblem from the read glass down to the emblem.the gate was not open or been hit.just woke up one morning and the crack was there.i have notice while driving around there are several other lincoln aviators that have the same crack.

I was driving on a highway 55 mph when passenger rear toe link failed and i lost control of vehicle. I was able to pull over without crashing.vehicle was repaired at garage nearby.

Dt*:the contact stated after releasing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not decelerate.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and it was determined that the vehicle was manufactured in this manner.

Owner says that cold air blows out of the vent during cold weather. Although the vehicle has warmed up. This happens even after the temperature has been set. Owner has contacted the dealer and the manufacturer and they've both said that what is happening is meeting specifications.in addition, snow collects on the windshield and the inside would fog unless air was directed at a constant high fan setting and at high heat setting.this setting exacerbates the problem with the side defoggers by increasing the flow of cold air to the front seat occupants. *sc

With less than 200 miles on it, my 2005 lincoln aviator developed a leak that was dripping down through the overhead light switch near the rear view mirror. Dealer believes that drainage tube channeling water from sunroof crimped when installed at the factory. Dealer has seen other aviators with same problem. This can cause an electrical system short since water was dripping into radio and dashboard controls as well as shifter. Water drops have also been spotted over driver side speaker on door where drainage tube empties to.

Leftside rear axle starting coming out of the vehicle while moving.

The left rear wheel bearing has broke 3 times on my vehicle. The first time, i brought it to lincoln to replace the wheel bearing at 28,000mi on 10-10-07. Then it broke again (left rear bearing) about 52000mi last year 5-20-10 and was replaced at a local garage where they said the bearing was "shattered" and i was lucky to make it to the repair shop.the bearing has since broke again on 3-15-11 left rear.i have not taking it to be repaired yet. My car has 62k mi on it.
