Recallthere has been a series of complaints regarding the dashboard of lexus getting sticky and cracking further and further as time goes by. I am now also included in this list of unsatisfied and concerned owner. My 2009 lexus rx350 has noticeable stickiness in the dashboard and cracking in certain locations all over the dashboard. What is alarming is that the cracks are beginning to be more noticeable around or on the airbag location on the dashboard. I am alarmed and concerned because of how the cracks is spreading it may cause the airbag to deploy accidentally. The dealer offered to supply the necessary parts but wants me to pay up to $1000 in labor. The to me is very insulting because this is known as an issue and it is a manufacturer fault not owner. Please advice. Thank you on advance.

I own a lexus suv, my third lexus/toyota brand vehicle. So i trusted the safety and reliability. One day everything is fine. The next day, i see a small crack in the lower part of the dashboard of the passenger seat. Literally, one day fine and the next cracked and without a single incident that caused it. In just a matter of weeks, my entire left dashboard is cracking and chipping and it continues to spread and deteriorate day by day. I am shocked and alarmed! i do not trust that this dashboard is safe as i am greatly concerned that the air bag (s) will be compromised. I am also concerned that it could components integral to the operation of the vehicle. This is well-known issue with toyota and lexus (affecting tens of thousands of vehicles) yet little to no action has been taken and i respectfully request a recall. It has been covered extensively in news stories, on the web and by dealerships concerned about customer satisfaction and safety. There are also known to be internal documents by toyota that acknowledges the problem.i contacted lexus corporate and it sent me to a local lexus dealer to document the issue and this went back to lexus corporate. This languished for many weeks without follow up and then my claim was unceremoniously denied and without explanation. I am greatly concerned. Thank you for your time and attention.

I have been notified of the defective airbag for 3-4 years. Everything i contact the toll free number i am told that i will be contacted when enough parts become available. My dashboard board has been craving from the divers side completely across and not only looks horrible but appears to be very unsafe for me as a senior citizen to drive...i am 69 years old and purchased this car during retirement. I am extremely disappointed in the length of time that has passed with no action...please help me. I am 69 years old. The dash board is in crumbling before my eyes. I have called them numerous times...please help.

Passenger side airbag system of lexus rx 350 (2009) will not work for light weight person whose weight is less than 90 lbs while other automaker?s passenger side air bag system works for person even whose weight is around 60 lbs. Owner?s manual does not specify required or suggested weight of a person for which passenger side airbag system designed to functioning. Dealership said after adjusting zero weight calibration, it was designed as such way and could not fix the issue. This issue may have some concern for families those who have light weight family member less than 90 lbs when selecting this model.

2009 lexus rx 350.attorney representing consumer writes in regards to air bag malfunction.the consumer was sitting at a red light when another vehicle was pushed into the side of her vehicle.according to a letter from toyota, the impact was directed at the left front door, which was amore yielding portion of the vehicle. The b-pillar was not impacted and deployment was not warranted. The side torso air bags were designed to help mitigate serious injury to the occupants torso, and it would not have prevented the type of injury the consumer sustained.

On or about march 5th 2014, i attempted to open the tailgate on our 2009 lexua rx350 and encountered hot melted rubber sticking to my fingers.i removed the sticky black rubber from the lock, but it was difficult to remove the tar-like material.as a certified electrical technician, i concluded that the electrical switch on that tailgate lock stuck and heated to a point that melted rubber, making a goo-like material.please note this above referenced car was not in the sun during the time the rubber melted.we have been using this vehicle without using the tailgate lock with the rubber boot, because we do not live within 80 miles of a lexus dealer, not can pay the $295 to replace the boot at this time.

2009 rx 350 lift gate rubber melted while vehicle parked in driveway in 88 degree heat north florida. All previous posts by car owners who had same issue were told this was due to a chemical or electrical issue which i am now concerned may be a fire hazard. Rubber is dripping off onto back of my car, i am pregnant and do not want to touch this melted rubbery liquid and therefore cannot manually open my trunk. Have been told dealer will not cover the problem, which is clearly a defective material.

Melted, gooey, rubber strip on rear hatchback opener (caused by electrical door opener switch overheating?)

When the suv shifts from 1stto2rd gear the engine revs up about 1000 rpms and hesitates 2-5 seconds before the shift takes place. I can't rely on power when needed because of this. It's not constant, about 30% of the time it occurs. The same thing happens when down shifting. The dealer, kendall lexus of eugene oregon (rick strong-service manager) is aware of the problem and says "toyota won't put out a new chip to fix the problem". Rick strong also said" i told the salesman he should inform potential buyers about this problem before they purchase a vehicle". This problem is ongoing since i bought the vehicle.

Switch assembly back door opener is melted.it is gooey and comes off on your fingers.this switch was already like this when i bought the vehicle.

Exploding passenger side mirrori own a 2009 lexus rx-350. It's in excellent condition with limited mileage. Last week, we were stopped at a stoplight when suddenly there was a very loud & frightening explosion emanating from the passenger side mirror. The mirror came flying out of its casing, hanging by its wires, & was cracked. Moreover, the fluid that's in these auto-dimming mirrors sprayed/dripped onto various panels, damaging the paint. I did not hit anything. No biker, person, or crazy bird hit my mirror, nor was i shot at. It was also not temp-related. Several people have reported a similar experience in diverse makes & models:http://www.planetlexus.com/lexus-forums/showthread.php?t=2787http://community.cartalk.com/discussion/2129791/spontaneous-explosion-of-right-side-mirrorhttp://www.justanswer.com/mercedes/1ks72-possible-sidemirror-right-ouside-explode.htmlhttps://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100730125750aanpd6fhttp://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4095&view=nexthttp://www.toyotanation.com/forum/8-general-discussion/102512-rear-view-mirror-exploded-freeway.htmlhttp://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123702932-[xxx]-it!!-(side-mirror-cover-exploded!!)http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-17/anyone-ever-experience-rear-view-mirror-exploding-internally-27371/something is defective. If this were to happen while you were driving, it could have very serious safety implications. In the last link above, the defect happened in the rear view mirror. What if the mirror had also exploded & the glass shards went in someone's face? in another link above, the mirror exploded & the driver saw pieces flying through the air behind him. What if a passenger were in the front seat with the window down and the explosion happened? thank you for looking into this significant safety issue.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle started leaking oil and within 50 yards lost all engine oil.toyota dealership found oil cooler pipe had leaked and they had to replace the oil cooler assembly - parts numbers - 15767-31020, 11496-31010, 15785-31010.

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx350. While at a fuel station, the contact was alerted by another person that there was oil leaking under the vehicle. The contact had aaa tow the vehicle back home. The vehicle was then towed to lexus of rockville centre (700 sunrise hwy, rockville centre, ny 11570, (516) 665-0166) where it was determined that a hose was leaking oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to file a complaint with nhtsa. The failure mileage was 92,000.

I just bought car and 5 days later the oil cooler line failed and i lost all oil. If this was handled as a recall (i searched for recalls before purchasing car) it probably would have been taken care of already, at the very least i would have known to get it done. Lexus extended warranty is 150,000 miles unfortunately mine has 152,400, so they are denying coverage.

The contact owns a 2008 lexus rx350. While driving 50 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil cooler pipe failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.updated 06/01/17*lj the consumer stated the vehicle was not included in the warranty. Updated 10/18/2017

My car never leaked oil, and no sensor lights were on. Regular maintenance was performed on the car. While i was driving on the freeway on cruise control about 70 mph (2,000 rpm) engine suddenly revved up to 3,000-3,500 rpm. I was able to exit the highway within 0.25 miles, the oil pressure sensor came on at the end of the exit ramp. I drove approximately 100 yards away from the exit ramp to reach a side street and by then the car was barely moving, it was very difficult to turn the steering wheel, and several other sensor lights were also on. I had the car towed to a service garage that told me the oil coolant lines had leaked causing the low pressure condition in the engine. After the technician replaced the oil cooler lines and performed an oil and filter change they found "large quantities of metal shavings in oil filter cartridge indicating internal damage of engine." severe internal engine damage has occurred and engine needs to be replaced. In my experience, it seems that a large quantity of oil was lost very quickly, and if i had not been able to exit the highway within a matter of seconds the car could have seized up and i could have gotten in an accident.

In motion.i repeatedly asked for the paperwork stating the full vehicle inspections completed and my contract but firsttx honda sales refused.responded but alerted the sales rep after going in person for the paperwork. Inspection paperwork to match their word. From my research this common issue has been ongoing for years back prior to my purchase in nov 2017.over a week ago the car suddenly splashed massive oil everywhere while driving long distance (have pic). Spoke with lexus austin dealership service dept and immediately they knew the issue but referred me to corporate office. Recall dept also immediately identified the problem and advised me to seek mechanic. Because the warranty enhancement vzl for free repair by lexus expired feb 2019 this year. Therefore, it's no longer their responsibility to repair this ongoing common problem with lexus rx 350lexus i'm stranded plus, i have a finance ca that will also negatively affect my credit rating due to this ongoing common problem lexus and first tx honda fail to own responsibility. The car cannot be driven at all due to life threatening,. Yet somehow, i'm placed in the position to pay repairs (with money i don't have) finance note for lexus and/or wherever else erroneous behalf. It's not my fault this problem occurred after the feb 2019 expiration date for lexus to take full responsibility and repair. However n website:https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/lexus/rx-350/owners stating, ' lexus is also offering free replacement of the variable valve timing (vvt-i) oil supply hose for 2007 through 2009 models until december 2021'. Although lexus is unaware and still refuse to take responsibility of this issue. There needs to be some type of manually override to repair this ongoing lexus for free. Plus reimbursed tow fees, any other costs pertaining to this issue, etc. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

T-sb-0201-11 from toyota/lexus states "some vehicles equipped with 2gr-fe/fxe towing package engines may exhibit an oil seep from the engine oil cooler pipes." this tsb affects toyota and lexus vehicles going back to at least 2008-present. This is a major issue, and i feel this should be handled as a recall instead of a tsb due to the severity of the issue if/when the pipe breaks. I recently elected to have my vehicle repaired on my own just so i wouldn't have to worry about this issue happening to me or my wife, and thus blowing up my lexus rx 350's engine causing thousands of dollars in damages. Seems pretty bad that a recall can be issued for floor mats and accelerator issues, but no recall is issued for this issue which can drain the oil from your engine in a minute, blow up your engine, and then possibly wreck your vehicle. Consumer's engines are now being destroyed, and this is showing up in different online forums. I feel that the nhtsa needs to force toyota/lexus to replace all of the defective engine oil cooler pipes with the newer metal ones that the tsb addresses. They should also be forced to reimburse all costs to those individuals that either needed to have the repair done, or decided to have the repair done as preventative maintenance on their own before those pipes burst on their own.

Upon arriving home and parking in my driveway, a trail of oil lined my path. As soon as it was in park, oil began gushing out into a puddle under the car. Upon further research, it was found that lexus had issues with the oil cooler hose used during manufacturing, being rubber and leaking or bursting. The vehicle was towed directly to the nearest authorized lexus dealer. Upon contacting lexus corporate in regards to the issue, they stated that they had issued and extended warranty for this problem, that expired in december of 2018. Since the issue occurred after the expiration date, there was no assistance available. My concern is, that this is and should be a safety recall, due to the nature of the problem. Had i been driving on the interstate, which i commonly do, this could have caused an accident, engine failure, and worse, a fire. Please, please, please issue a safety recall for this issue. It is absolutely a matter of safety.

The oil cooler manifold which has rubber hoses leaked completely out.the new parts have a solid metal hose, not rubber!i believe lexus obviously knew the rubber hoses were a cheaper method of cooling, though they are "high pressure" and should have been metal at the time of manufacturing the vehicle!i have seen blog after blog of people with the same issue.oil all over my driveway and again, i believe the motor has been damaged due to driving home (unaware there was an issue) until i saw the oil everywhere underneath and on the side of the motor.

Oil coolant manifold.rubber hoses which are high pressure hoses burst.engine issues afterwards due to immediate and extreme oil loss.driving at 55 mph on highway.lexus dealer stated the replacement part is on "national back order, more than 3,000 units".i have had the vehicle fixed as it is a primary vehicle for my family.lexus states they will not reimburse unless it is fixed at a lexus dealer....though they do not have the replacement part!no loaner was offered.cost $321.00 for aftermarket part.there is a service campaign on this issue; sczlc as of 08/01/2014, obviously they are aware of an issue.

I saw white smoke in my rear view mirror while driving on a street. No engine lights appeared. I had been driving on the freeway a few minutes earlier. I pulled over and called my lexus dealer, who regularly does my maintenance. I had car towed to dealer, who said it was the vvti oilcooler hose and it would be covered under warranty. Next day, dealer tells me they replaced the vvti hose but it was still leaking. It was a different rubber oil hose and would not be covered under warranty. I am not happy. I see that this has been a problem with toyota and lexus so why didn't my dealership replace the vvti hose during a routine oil change and warn me about the rubber hose problem, so i could replace it with a metal one before it leaked. I hope there is no engine damage.

While driving in the very busy freeway, the car suddenly stopped without any prior warning or any signal. Upon lexus dealer inspection, the cause was , bolts used to secure the variable valve timing control device can become loose, one of the bolts came out and caused the timing chain to break and it broke the engine head, causing the vehicle to stop while being driven. Lexus has not recalled the rx 350 models, however on september 3, 2013 lexus has recalled is 350, is 350c and gs 350 vehicles for the exact same reason. My car has always been serviced at lexus dealer. According to lexus service department, there was no way for me to prevent this or to know. The sudden stop of the vehicle in the freeway as the result of this engine failure could have caused a major accident which was very life threatening. These engines has to be recalled for inspection and repair by lexus. Lexus did not accept the fault even though they accepted to pay partial part of the cost of the rebuilding the engine as a courtesy.

Several times a week the engine idles fast on start up and lasts for about five minutes.it does not seem to be related to the weather and there seems to be no identifying factor with which it can be associated.

I was driving my 2009 lexus rx 350 down a major surface street when my power brakes and steering went out.i attempted to drive again after moving to a side street, and my steering and brakes went out 2 more times,i then had my vehicle towed to my lexus dealer. They could not identify the reason for the problem.

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx350. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the global position system updated version installed, however the global position system failed to register the location and the monitor face became blank. The contact believed that the failure could have caused a crash.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle failure and current mileage was 64,000.updated 12/21/12*ljthe navigation system was repaired in october 2012. Updated 01/09/13.

Headlight condensation on the passenger side; manufacturer defected lead to a tsb and class action law suit; dealer do not want to repair under due to manufacturer defect.

The front lenses have turned a yellow color which makes it hard to see at night.

Headlights fill with water

The contact owned a 2009 lexus rx350. The contact was alerted by a neighbor that the rear passengar side tailgate glass was broken. The contact opened the door and the vehicle was wet inside, including contents inside the vehicle. A police report was attached to the door of the vehicle, indicating there was a fire that was put out by the fire department. There were no occupants at the time of the failure. That was all the contact knew at the time and the insurance company counted the vehicle as a total loss since there was fire and water damage. The manufacturer was not contacted. The dealer (land rover schaumburg 920 w golf rd, schaumburg, il 60194 (847) 252-7800) apologized and offered to sell the contact another vehicle. The failure mileage was 98,000.

I was driving on the highway, going 65 mph and straight, and someone flagged me down to let me know that my car was smoking. None of my safety lights had appeared on my dash. I pulled over and saw that the back of my car was completely covered in oil and i had a fast oil leak underneath my car toward the front passenger side. I certainly sprayed oil on the cars behind me on the highway, potentially causing visibility issues for other drivers. I also leaked oil on the highway, causing a potential concern for other drivers. In some circumstances, this malfunction, coupled with highway speed, could cause the engine to seize and power steering and power brakes would have been instantly lost. Found a nearby auto shop and checked my oil dip stick - it was completely dry. Nearly all of my oil had leaked out. I was towed 100 miles home and took my car to the local auto repair shop. They did an assessment and determined that there was a gross oil leak coming from the oil cooler pipe (made of rubber) which runs from the filter adapter to the engine block. Lexus is aware of this issue and issued a warranty enhancement notification (attached) for the faulty part, but the part has not yet been recalled.

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx 350. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate speed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for inspection where the contact was informed that the planetary assembly had become detached. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 70,410.updated 2/11/14the consumer stated aamco re-built the original transmission. They found the source of the failure was the pins had worked themselves out on the rear planet assembly gears, causing the transmission to fail. Updated 02/14/14

The vehicle engine light comes on and the vsc, and traction lights are on. Have spend over 500.00 on transistor and modules to continue to have nothing work.most recently, was advised that i need a new transmission at $4,400.for a car with such a great reputation, and now seeing all of the other lexus owners complain about their transmission, its seems as if there is a trend of transmission issues that follow these vehicles.

Upon taking delivery of new rx350 i immediately noticed a transmissionwhine. I feel it is a safety factor because i am constantly thinkingof the problem as i drive. My mind is not on driving as it should be. I immediately went back to dealer and shop foreman drove the car and heard the noise. He said don't worry as i have a warranty. This is not a viable answer to my problem.what if i break down in the middle of nowhere. Talked with sales manager and he stated wait until the 2010 model comes out. He would not do anything.

My 2009 lexus suv took off on its own out of a driveway while i was trying to back out.i put the car in reverse, and the engine begin to rev and then the car was uncontrollable.it accelerated out the driveway, across the street, into a yard, and finally stopped when it hit a huge tree. The car was totaled.

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx350. The contact stated while driving into traffic and slowing down, then moving again at about 2mph, the transmission does not shift into the right gear, it lurches and sputters. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they ran a diagnostic test. They informed her there was nothing wrong with the transmission and that was the design of the vehicle.also, it is the electronic transmission that tries to anticipate what the driver of the vehicle should do next because it is thinking for you. The manufacturer was also called and stated there was nothing that could be done and that was the design of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000.

My wife was driving car after picking kids up from school.during driving my 8y/o daughter disconnected rear seat belt to reach down and pickup a dropped toy. Seat belt retracted around my daughters neck choking her. My stopped car and tried to get belt to release. It just got tighter around my daughters throat.police were called by cell phone and had to cut belt to release it from my daughters neck.

While being serviced for brakes for 3rd time , dealer noticed torn/leaking rt front boot.appears to be a major problem with this car.$15 part, $475 labor. Fortunately this was covered due to 3rd party extended warranty but with the number of complaints and tsb's on this issue, the dealer should have covered. This negligence shouldn't happen on a premium brand, this will be our last lexus.

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx350. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle failed to respond to deceleration attempts and caused the contact to crash into the preceding vehicle. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage and vin was not available.

Takata recall - my air bag never deployed on impact. As i was braking to park outside my garage door, the car suddenly accelerated extremely fast. My lexus went through the garage door and i was braking but my suv didn't stop until it hit things in the garage that stopped me. I even plowed into a piece of equipment that went out the back wall of the garage

After a routine oil change and maintenance service at 94,000 i was informed that the power steering rack and pinion needs replacement for a fee of $1854, plus brake pad and replacement and resurfacing of the rear rotors for $385. I found no evidence of oil leakage on the garage floor.

I own a 2009 lexus rx 350. When i am driving on a bumpy road and apply the brakes the car will not stop. They act like you are going into a skid. Shortly after purchasing the car i reported the problem to lexus. They keep assuringme that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.i have been lucky enough to avoid several near serious accidents . I have had to jump curbs on several occasions. I have rolled into the middle of intersections with cars coming at me in all directions

2009 lexus rx 350. Consumer states problems with vehicle brakes *tgwthe consumer stated the brakes would vibrate when he/she reached a high speed.the vehicle was taken taken to the dealer and fixed free of charge. However, 5,000 miles later the problem returned.

After a routine oil change and maintenance service at 94,000 i was informed that the power steering rack and pinion needs replacement for a fee of $1854, plus brake pad and replacement and resurfacing of the rear rotors for $385. I found no evidence of oil leakage on the garage floor.

Went to lexus dealership for oil change today & was told that rack & pinion steering assembly is leaking and needs to be replaced. Vehicle has only 51,000 miles on it & has been serviced regularly at dealer. Noticed many complaints online with the same problem on lexus rx vehicles. This should be a manufacture recall! average cost to replace is $1500.

Vehicle will at random begin to pull to the left.

I took my vehicle in for what i thought was an oil leak after having my oil changed, and i was told that the rack and pinion steering was leaking from a crack in the boot and needed to be replaced. I was charged over $1400.00 to replace the rack and pinion steering part.a discussion with the service department at the dealership and a review of a number of websites makes it obvious that this has become a common issue with this vehicle and needs to be addressed immediately.

During routine oil change at lexus dealership i was informed that the steering rack was leaking and the entire rack needed replacing soon as it poses a safety issue. Learned this is a very common reoccurring issue with this make/model/year and validated as such on-line. Estimated cost of repair that i was quoted: $1,678.85. Due to the potential safety issue and number of occurrences i do not see how this is not a recall issue and that the cost should be the responsibility of the manufacturer as it is obviously a manufacturing defect.

During vehicle service, i was told that the rack of power steering is leaking, which costs around $1500 for replacing power steering rack. After looking on line, i found this is a common problem for rx 350 with low mileage . This is a safety issue lexus should recall and to fix the problem.

My lexus has under 20,000 miles on it and it has been garage kept and not seen winters. My dealer just told me that the steering gearbox needs to be replaced immediately. This car is in perfect shape and has hardly been driven. If there is a problem with this, lexus should be paying for it, not me.the quote is for $1450.

I brought my rx350 in fora "free" yearly inspection and was told that my rack and pinion steering assembly was leaking and needed to be totally replaced at a cost of $1800.this car has low mileage, always garaged, and always serviced at a lexus dealership (2). I was told that the rack and pinion pressure was checked every time it was brought in for regular maintenance and it just happened for no reason.i am disappointed with lexus and have researched that this is a common problem with the rx's.should this be part of a recall as it is a clear safety issue that has no warning.my car was running in excellent condition. This was the most expensive "free" inspection of all time.

My lexus has just 50,000 miles on it garage kept, just was told my rack&piniongear wasleaking to the tune of 1800.00 dollars. I was looking up lexus forums on line, there is quite of lexus owner's that have the same problem. And if you don`t take care of this problem it could be quite dangerous. I think lexus should reimburse owner's for there out of pocket expenses.

My dealer just told me that the steering rack kit leakingand needs to be replaced immediately. This common problem in lexus,if there is a problem with this, lexus should be paying for it, not me. The quote is for $1315

During vehicle service, was told the rack and pinion, power steering was leaking. After looking on line i discovered this a common problem with rx vehicles. Most with low mileage or age. Lexus apparently ordered no recall or upgraded their parts to fix the problem.

I took my rx350 for regular service and asked for the steering to be checked since it made noise and did not feel secure when making hard or sharp turns and when parking in tight spots.i was informed that my rack & pinion assemblywas leaking power steering fluid and it could be hazardous if not addressed.it needed to be replaced. The lexus estimate was $2000! given the age, i had less than 80k mostly local and highway miles on the suv.when i researched cost estimates i found that this was a common occurrence.i believe lexus should accept responsibility and recall these vehicles and reimburse the owners who had to pay out of pocket! after i saved up to pay for the repair the cost was $2058.11!

During routine oil change at lexus dealership i was informed the rack and pinion steering boot was leaking and the entire assembly needed replacing soon as it poses a safety issue. Learned this is a very common recurring issue with this make/model/year and validated as such on-line.estimated cost of repair that i was quoted:$1,536.88.due to the potential safety issue and number of occurrences i do not see how this is not a recall issue and that the cost should be the responsibility of the manufacturer as it is obviously a manufacturing defect.

Serious steering rack power steering failure/leakage, mechanic says common lexus and toyota products and can lead to catastrophic accident by losing steering at high speeds.thank god, no accident yet, just facing $1600 repair. Parts and labor, one year warranty. Do many people have to die before this is addressed??

I took my car in for regular service a couple of weeks ago and they recommenced several things, including replacing the power steering rack due to a leak. I got a second opinion before replacing it and they said it seemed very odd to have that at such low mileage. I therefore did lots of research to see ifi was just unlucky and have found many people that own a lexus or toyota have had this problem at such low mileage. I have only ever taken my car to be serviced at lexus as they state needed, and therefore do not believe that this problem should be happening and think it's completely unacceptable i should be responsible for paying for this.if this is a safety concern (my car did not pass inspection due to it) how can lexus not recall the part after so many incidents?

While have my car serviced, the shop informed me that the steering rack was leaking fluid and needed to be repaired at a cost (parts & labor) of $1562.this seems outrageous to me given that the car has about 33k miles on it.when i check the blog on arfc.org, it appears that this is a common problem.why has lexus not been required to issue a recall for this problem?

While getting my inspection at the lexus dealer, they showed me that my steering rack is leaking with less than 32,500 miles on the car.the car has never been damaged or driven recklessly and garaged kept.the car has been maintained and includes records.my volvo 240 racks last 20-25 years.shame on lexus/toyota on a common, serious issue involving a premium brand.this should be a recall issue because the power steering could fail.the lexus dealer noted it as a "caution task" with a recommendation to replace the rack and pinion assembly.i have written in the date of 14 dec 2016 as being observed.it appears to have started leaking sometime this year.

Took car in for service and they did a oil change and told me that the rack and pinion was leaking and needed repairs of 1667.00. Seems like a common malfunction and should be investigated.

I was driving my 2009 lexus rx 350 down a major surface street when my power brakes and steering went out.i attempted to drive again after moving to a side street, and my steering and brakes went out 2 more times,i then had my vehicle towed to my lexus dealer. They could not identify the reason for the problem.

I took our 2009 lexus rx 350 in for routine 60k mile service and was notified by the service adviser of a power steering leak which would require the replacement of the rack and pinion mechanism.was quoted a cost of $1700 - $1800 for the replacement.i denied the service recommendation.after researching this issue, it became clear that this is a recurring problem with this vehicle and i filed a complaint with nhtsa.this is clearly a safety issue which toyota/lexus should address.

Dealership said there is a leak . The steering could fail.need to replace rack and pinion system.

In dec 2011, a reputable toyota dealer performed a re-alignment because the steering was pulling to the right. The car was fine for a few weeks. In feb 2012, the steering started pulling again. Again to the right.my concern is that something basic is wrong with the steering/alignment mechanism.

I bought the vehicle in for service of an oil change on march 21, 2015. I was informed bymy advisor that the power rack & pinion assy. Is leaking fluid. The entire assy. Has to be replaced at a cost of $1, 900.00 (really). If the fluid is leaking that would affect my steering the vehicle and turning (god forbid). The vehicle is only 6 years old how can this possibly be. Due to the potential safety hazard i am concerned about driving this vehicle with my family. I called customer service and reported the matter was informed that isn't a recall on the part. The manufacturer should be held liable for this safety hazard and defect of part.i am asking for assist in this pressing (dangerous) matter. I will contact any one i know thatislookingto purchase this model vehicle. I will let them know the circumstances of this model vehicle.any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Took to dealer for regular oil change. The 25 point check - right side rack and pinion leaking, right rear strut leaking front brakes low battery fail test from a battery i received from lexus in 2012. Brake fluid flush need 4 wheel alignment. The corporation needs to do a recall i've researched to many of these vehicles are being cited with this rack and pinion. They recalled prior years why not the 2009 and up?i am to receive assistance with the labor, but as we know labor is the bulk of charges.

During vehicle service today, i was told that the rack of power steering is leaking. I was charged $1750 for replacing power steering rack.after looking on line,i found this is a common problem for rx 350 with low mileage . This is a safety issue lexus should recall and to fix the problem.

On 22 july 2014, i proceeded to the lexus of huntsville dealership for a 75,000 oil change, tire rotation, and service maintenance for my 2009 rx 350. I was told that the rack and pinion steering had a leak near the left side boot and needed to be replaced. I also was told that my front and rear brakes needed to be serviced as well.i was given an approximate quote of $1600.00 to replace the rack and pinion steering part, and a needed front end alignment along with having my front and rear brakes replaced and the original oil change, and tire rotation. I ended up paying $2,265.00 that day. I went ahead and had my vehicle serviced with the intent of filing this complaint as i told the service manager that lexus had a history of these rack and pinion steering and boots leak as i showed him the complaints on this website. In addition to pay at least $38,00 dollars for this vehicle and still get charged for a major part to have it fix is worthy for a complaint. To have numerous complaints of the same parts over the amount of years tells me why haven't this been on the recall lists and what are you all waiting for? will it take a fatality to get the attention of a recall.i live paycheck to paycheck, and this has put me in a major bind financially. Please advise.

Letter from senator nelson on behalf of constituent re safety concerns about his 2009 lexus rx350.the consumer stated he has breathing concerns related to breathing the fumes released from his melting dashboard.the consumer wanted the dealer to tell him, what chemicals were used in the dashboard. However, the dealer has been giving him the run-around for the past two years.

The dashboard is melting and falling apart. This is a safety issue especially since it is suppose to protect you during an accident.

Foot slips between gas pedal and brake causing car to accelerate.

Melted, gooey, rubber strip on rear hatchback opener (caused by electrical door opener switch overheating?)

Dashboard melting ,emitting fumes from evaporating dash. Cracking and peeling. Resulting from heat and humidity of florida sun. Are the fumes emitted toxic? what are the long & short term effects on the respiratory system ? are the air bags at risk for premature deployment?

Glue rubberdue to melting of rear door lock .

My dash board is melting and falling apart!!! my fingers & hand stick to the dashboard and everything that is up there gets stuck to it!!!! i can touch it and leave a mark or push in it & it will leave an imprint!!! something is so wrong with this dashboard, it's totally defective and has caused my important legal documents to stick to it and even get ripped when i try to take them off the melting dashboard! it gets shiney and glare is hard to see because if this issue. Also my eye glasses actually got stuck to it too and i couldn't see very well to drive. Lastly, it's cracking and splitting in many places too, simply falling apart for no reason!! it's just melting andtotally defective.this is a safety issue that needs rectified please!!

My lexus rx350 dashboard and windoors are melting and get really sticky when i pull the windoors down all the sticky melting black residue got on the windoors so it's being a while since i went to the lexus dealer they were not helping they said that i have to put my name in a waiting list which i did now it's been a while everytime i call them they keep telling me to wait

Lexus rx 350 back door does not remain up when there is snow on the roof or snow on the door.it goes up automatically via key or dashboard entry or use of rear door opener, but when it gets up and you are unpacking from the rear cargo area, it comes down without warning and twice hit my wife in the head.

Lexus rx 350-2009.when there is snow on the rear hatch, if you open the hatch with the key when it reaches the top it comes down, hitting anyone trying to put something in the hatch or take something out.this happened to me tonight.the second defect is that when the door hits something, like my head, it automatically doesn't stop and go up, thereby reducing the blow, it keeps coming down.

By design the electric tailgate does not reverse when in the process of closing thereby trapping a person if they are not clear of the tailgate resulting in injury.

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx350. The contact stated that a crack had formed on the dashboard extending horizontally from the driverā€™s side instrument panel to the passengerā€™s side air bag housing. The contact also stated that the dashboard was sticky and appeared to be melting. The contact notified the dealer of the failure and was insured that the dashboard would not affect any safety features in the vehicle. The manufacturer had also been notified of the failure and was informed that an extended warranty had been placed on the vehicle however, the warranty had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Vehicle has a melting and cracking dashboard that has a pending recall. I have registered my vehicle with the lexus dealer twice. The first time i registered my vehicle, was in february of 2016 and never heard from the dealer again. I returned to the dealer and they did not have any record of my registration. I re-registered in august of 2016 and they said that an order for the dashboard has been placed. It is now six more months and they can not tell me when they expect to replace the dashboard. I would like to know what my options are.

The navigation system map icon does not match actual location of vehiclle as the map is of a different area and often icon is not on a road.

My dash is cracked in a couple of places. Online research shows this is a common problem, however i see no recall notice. This should be replaced by lexus as it greatly reduces the resell value of the car.

2009 lexus rx 350. Consumer writes in regards to dispute with lexus regarding lease agreement and excessive wear and use charges for vehicle *tgw

The dashboard melts and has a very gummy and sticky feel.also it now has cracked and likely substantially reduce the value of the vehicle not to mention how terrible it looks.

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx350. While depressing the brake pedal at 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning, went over a curb, and down a 7-8 foot steep embankment and over a high curb at the top. As a result, the contact crashed the vehicle into a parked vehicle and then rolled backwards. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.updated 08/05/16*ljupdated 08/15/16.

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx 350. The contact was driving at a low speed while driving into a parking space, when the vehicle suddenly accelerated and drove over the curb. She attempted to use the brakes which did not work at first to stop the vehicle. She then depressed the brake pedal with extreme force and shifted into park which stopped the vehicle before it could collide with a plate glass window. The vehicle previously had slight acceleration problems but when speaking to the dealer in january, the dealer stated that there was nothing wrong with it. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership where the vehicle was at the time of the complaint. The dealer stated that the manufacturer would send a representative out to inspect the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were approximately 32,000-bk

The contact owns a 2009 lexus rx350. While pulling into an off-street parking space at speeds of less than 5 mph, the vehicles engine began to surge and the vehicle then abnormally accelerated. The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal, however the brakes were non-responsive. The vehicle then crashed head on into a stone wall. The vehicle was able to be driven from the crash site. She then drove to her local dealer. The dealer did a short visual inspection and stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and that driver error was the cause of the crash. A diagnostic was not performed on the vehicle. Repairs to the vehicle were made. There were no additional failures following the repairs. She stated that following the repairs, the accelerator pedal felt higher and as if there were modifications done on the vehicle, however she could not prove what repairs were done. The failure mileage was 4,500 and the current was approximately 7,500. Updated 4/28/10 updated 07/01/10.

Traveling east bound on texas highway 380 in denton county, tx. Traffic slowed as it approached entrance ramp to i35 southbound.i applied pressure to the brakes to disengage the cruise control and slow vehicle, nothing happened.did this several times and also tried to turn cruise off from steering column lever.cruise did not disengage, car did not slow, my vehicle ran into the rear end of the rock hauler truck in front of me.

I was driving my 2009 lexus rx 350 at about 25 miles per hour when it suddenly rapidly accelerated.fortunately there was nothing/no car immediately in front of me.i pressed down on the brakes and the car responded by slowing down.i have reported the incident to lexus and will have the dealer inspect the car as soon as possible. (they gave me an appointment in 2 days.)

The driver side outside remote mirror does not tilt down when shifted into reverse. Passenger side outside mirror is operating normally. Intent to bring vehicle in for repair.

Vehicle is equipped with two-piece lug nuts consisting of a physical lug nut and a decorative cap. Lug nuts are 21mm in size. Over time, especially in humid climates or where road salt is used, lug nuts swell between decorative cap and physical lug nut due to corrosion. Swelling can cause 21mm tools including vehicle lug wrench to not fit on lug nut. This is a safety concern because if you have a flat tire in an emergency situation, you may not be able to change tires.
