Air bags failed to inflate after vehicle was hit violently on the passenger side/front right quarter panel. Vehicle rolled, still not inflating any air bags. Driver suffered injury . Seat belts were used.
Century model 4525 wvs - apparently this seat was recalled. When it was recalled the manufacturer dates mentioned apparently were 9/95-5/96. We thought this recall did not apply to our seat because the date that appears after our model number is 061197.we just went in for a police inspection of our car seat installations and found out that our car seat was recalled.apparently the date on the seat and the date that it was bought really don't correlate with the manufacture dates.we are utterly in awe that we have 2 children who have used a potentially life threatening seat.this really should be clarified.i am sure that we are not the only ones that believed that our seat was safe due to the dates printed by the manufacturer on the seat itself!!! more importance really needs to be placed on the model number!!!!.
Consumer states that brake warning light is on.dealer was contacted. Mr
This is an lexus rx300 2000 edition; the problem has been an electrical problem.it started with an untraceable problem in which the rear tail brake light stopped working;later on, the two main head-lamps stopped working; fuses have been changed, bulbs have changed, but no problem has been found.the car has not been in any accidents or damage.
I purchased my vehicle (2000 lexus rx 300) in 2004 with less than 35,000 and every year since 2007 i have had issues with lighting. I have had the park light, brake light, center stop lamp; center brake light socket and bulbs all replaced. The unfortunate issue is that the lights have to be replaced every year sometimes twice a year because they continue to malfunction. I always take my vehicle to the lexus of orlando dealership for testing, service and repair but they obviously never completely fix this issue. The most recent repair was replacement of th center brake light socket and bulb and reset on 4/14/2011 and in august 2011 on my way to the airport, an accident almost accrued due to my brake lights failing to come while making a stop on a major highway intersection. I believe the problem is electrical, lexus mechanic states the issue started with an untraceable problem in which the rear tail brake light stopped working and later on the park light and other lights thereafter.
The moon roof motor has two functions, tilting open and sliding the entire glass panel open. When i attempted to use the slide panel open function, the panel did slide open, however it was much slower than normal operation and was accompanied by a grinding/clicking noise which never accompanied previous operation. An attempt to close the roof panel yielded an identical result. I then attempted to operate the tilt feature of the roof, which was also slow and accompanied by the previously mentioned noises. Attempting to close the roof resulted in no movement of the roof panel and a grating sound from the electric motor. Activating the switch while subsequently pushing down on the roof panel caused it to return to the closed position. I am now unable to open the roof due to fear of it being stuck in the open position and a subsequent accident in which the roof of the vehicle will bow and cause severe injury to passengers because the vehicle has posted warnings in the passenger compartment of its higher propensity to rollover in accidents or high speed maneuvers than average vehicles.
2000 lexus rx3000 key electronics when key is turned or on car while drawings causing vehicle to stall due to electronics mall function. Reported to toyota/lexus dealer with no response.
Purchased car from guy and found out two days later paper work in the glove box that contained a carfax showing an odometer rollback.2009 it had 155,000 and in 2012 it has 110,000. Due to mileage discrepancy we tried to sell on local site but when explained the mileage situation never heard back from potential buyer.ended up trading it in and taking a loss- we paid 4500.00 and because the mileage is "unknown" we could only get 2,250 for the trade in, plus paying the taxes on this.i truly do not understand why it is not required on all vehicles regardless of age to disclose the mileage.if this would happen, maybe this odometer rollback wouldn't happen as often and if it did, you could actually prove who did it.i can't prove he did it, but i'm sure he knew about it before selling considering he had a carfax in a lexus folder with a letter from dealer in ca looking to replenish their used inventory & the carfax in the glove box was printed on the same day it shows on the carfax the car was at that dealer. He insist he knew nothing about this, but why would you have a folder in the glove box that has this letter, and why would the dealer need to run a carfax to fix his "key" as they state he did.i didn't realize this was an issue until it happened and i was "googling" how to report it.i was concerned about previous accidents, fluid levels, driving it to make sure it didn't overheat and all of that- i never thought of the odometer being tampered with.also, if you do a search with the vin using only the state registration site- everything checks out fine because the mileage is not reported over 100,000, it's "exempt"- this is crazy- why would they even have sites that use this method for consumers if the information is not available for the vehicle when it's registered?
I am able to remove the keys from the ignition when the car is not in park and turned off.i have had the car begin rolling while i have already left the car and have had to rush to get back in and press the brake pedal.i am worried this will happen and hurt someone or cause damage.
Told before purchasing that transmission was rebuilt. Not shifting properly. I was told it was an electrical issue power train. I also am not visible to most drivers in the we morning dusk dark hours of the days due to lighting. Pulled over by law enforcement a few times in regards to the lights. One owner before me and did not get any recalls done. I called lexus @ grapevine tx and they told me there were no recalls on my truck. There h e been and they need to be done asap. I have a disabled child and can not jeopardize the safety of my child. I need help getting this matter taken care of asap. Thank you!
Incident because of sudden unintended acceleration when my foot on the brake.
My 2000 lexus rx300 had an unexplained sudden unintended acceleration where the vehicle almost killed me and my son.i was driving residential backroads by my house, accelerated slightly to get up a hill and that's when it took off.the brake pedal was unresponsive, the emergency break was unresponsive, i pulled the floor mat out for good measure, nothing worked, it kept accelerating at a high rate until i finally slammed it through gears to "park" to get it to a stop.i had it towed to the lexus dealership, where the tow truck driver even told me when it started the car to get it up on the truck, after being turned off for over 12 hours, it was still red lining the engine, and even lurched forward but because the car was in park, it didn't crash into the back of the tow truck. Lexus investigated the car and did absolutely nothing.they wouldn't tell me why it happened.i demand an explanation and a replacement vehicle - one that doesn't have a history of having sua problems.i fear for my life everytime i have to drive this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300. The contact stated that the only gear that would engage was drive. Although the contact could shift into any gear, the gears would not engage. The contact also mentioned that approximately four pistons misfired and the 02 sensor was defective. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician stated that the transmission needed to be rebuild and the o2 sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not repaired. The failure mileage was 127,000 and the current mileage was 128,700.
Bad transmission
While driving, the car jerks and then cuts off. This has happened at least half a dozen times within the last 2 months. Engine light is constantly on, even after servicing the car at local lexus dealer. When car is parked, i noticed exhaust fume smells heavily with gas.
After first having to replace my transmission at 75,000 miles. It seems i will have to pay to do it again at 186,000.the problem started out with the vehicle having trouble climbing a hill.i changed the transmission oil and two weeks later the vehicle move about three feet from a parking stall made a loud noise jerked to a stop and would not move. I was able to put it into drive and repark the car. It will not reverse and had to be towed to a mechanic.
Resolving oil sludge repair problem on used rx 300 with third party lexus dealer--car broke down on 1200 mile road trip. Lexus paid for rental car for return trip. Repair is under warranty. My problem is the dealer we purchased the car from must have known this problem existed with these vehicles and had ample evidence of lack of oil changes in the repair history, yet did not pull the valve cover off this vehicle to determine if oil sludge problem existed. Isn't that standard practice for all used car inspections? am told by third party lexus dealer therer is a maintenance procedure that requires this sludge inspection on all v-6 toyota engines, yet dealer we purchased car from says this is not required.
We purchased a 2000 lexusrx300 with a v-6 in april 2003 with 36,000 miles.we have recently found out that the engine had been rebuilt due to sludge problems at 31,000.we changed the oil every 5,000 - 7,500 miles.i have never had an oil related engine problem in 28 years of driving and have never worried about keeping oil change receipts.i only have receipts from 44,000 and 60,000 miles.the place that changed it does not have record of the two other changes at about 39,000 and 51,000.i have copies of the special adjustment letter that you refer to in your tsb's.lexus however, is telling me since we are not the original owner that this letter and offer do not apply to us.they have offered to pay half of the repair which we have worked down to our portion $4,200.they have not pulled the heads or the oil pan and yet they know that the whole engine needs to be replaced.this tells me that they have had experience with this issue before.our vehicle has needed an engine every 30,000 miles. I have kept engines up to over 120,000 miles without failure. If we have them fix the enginei am told that they will machine the heads at the lexus dealer, not replace them, yet the block needs to be replaced.my investigating on the internet leads me to believe that the problem is in the heads.just machining them and putting them back on will only ensure that i will be dealing with them in another 30,000 miles for the same problem.it seems that they have a problem with this engine that they don't want to stand behind because we are not the original owners or at least that seems to be their easiest route to take.my vehicle has been unuseable for a month now and there is no end in site.
9/2009 - engine failed.vehicle initially performed normally, but engine seized during interstate driving.professional inspection determined cause of failure was sludge build up.vehicle out of initial warranty.extension based upon consumer complaints expired 4/2009.new engine installed at my expense.12/2009 - transmission failed.vehicle initially performed normally, but suddenly began to lurch when placed into gear after gasoline fill up.professional inspection determined transmission failure.new transmission installed at my expense.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300.the contact stated that the transmission was replaced in 2008.he recently heard a noise coming from the engine and the rpms displayed inaccurate readings.while idling at a traffic light, the vehicle failed to accelerate.the contact was able to shift into a low gear and moved the vehicle to the side of the road.the vehicle was towed to the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 75,360.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300.the contact stated that the engine warning indicator consistently illuminates on the instrument panel.she has not taken the vehicle to the dealer to determine the cause of the failure.the failure and current mileages were 121,399.
Purchased used rx-300 (yr 2000) in 2003 and the transmission died suddenly as i was coming back home at 87,000 miles.the dealer fixed it for free, a week later the car would not start and had to be towed back to the lexus dealer in silver spring and another transmission was put in the car.today the same thing happened, engine light went on and the transmission has to be replaced and it will cost thousands of dollars.the mileage is 127,000, not sure if it's worth getting it fixed.
Vehicle started losing powerwhilegoing 35-45 mph and eventually stalled. Was able to start vehicle but won't go pass 25 mph. When stopped, and shiftedon drive, vehicle won't move forward. Won't go into reverse either when engaged in reverse. I believe this was a transmission failure.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300. The timing belt and engine were replaced december of 2010 but the repair did not correct the failure. While driving approximately 30 mph, the timing belt failed. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who inspected the vehicle. The local mechanic stated that the timing chain and the engine had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin information was not available. The failure and the current miles were 175,000.
The past two weeks prior to taking the car to my local toyota dealership because there is no lexus dealership in ocala , fl..... I would smell something burning like rubber against a hot exhaust or engine.every now and then i would stop the car and check and i might see a whiff of light smoke but then nothing.no engine lights , no spotting on the garage floor. So i took the car in for an oil change early and asked that they check the car over. 3 hours later i was taken into the garage bay and shown oil dripping from the underside of the engine and told my seals were blown and the whole engine would need to be torn down to get to them.while repairing it turned out the water pump was leaking but the timing belt changed at 60,000 miles was okay. The following evening i was presented with a $1500 bill most for labor. I guess i consider myself lucky they found all this before i took this 12 year old car on a long trip .
Engine failed due to sludging.i was unaware of the spa and had a used engine installed.lexus refuses to pay for the repair because i perform my own maintenance
My wife noticed a check engine light on as she was driving to work. She called me on the cell phone and we took the car to lexus of clearwater. I recieved a phone call saying they had detected sludge in the engine and it would need to be fixed. They told me they might cover it under warranty because it was a known issue but they would call me back. I also checked the website and lexus knows of the problem and says they will stand 100% behind the customer for 8 yrs and unlimited miles. No other requirenment is listed. Melissa the service person said she wanted me to talk to mark the regional guy from lexus because they were not going to cover it and the repair would be from 8k-12k!!!! i told them they were crazy because we have had every major service required by lexus and that oil does not just break down in a 3 year old car. Mark told me he had a hard time covering this because we were overdue by 5k on the oil change. I explained if they had know of a sludge problem 8,000 miles ago when they changed the oil why did we not get notified. Regardless i told them a cars engine is not ruined because a person drives a few thousand extra miles. I told him the car is 3 years old and we were returning the car in march 28 at the lease expiration. He told me he could get it waived for me if i spoke to the sales manager about purchasing another lexus. I told him i was not ready to purchase anothe car and did not want the pressure of having to buy a new car to get something fixed that should be fixed for free. I then called lexus customer service and noted a complaint. The girl i believe denise told me she was going to look again over the file and ask marc for a customer good faith repair. I called yesterday and left a msg for marc and called lexus again today. So far i have no response. I was a lexus fan but this has ruined my day
I purchased a 2000 toyota suv. And subsequently had the vehicle go intosudden complete irreperable engine failure while driving on a busy road. It had been a "recall", or service bulletin that the item was a "gel" problem (or sludge) with the oil in the make and model of the car. Although this was a known problem, lexus of monterey claimed that they'd never seen such a thing and that the vehicle needed $400.00 worth of diagnostics to see what the problem was.on the advice of my usual auto mechanic, i contacted lexus and reported a possible "gel" problem. Lexus immediately sent someone out to check the vehicle and pronounced it the manufacturers' problem that had been sent out as a notice to owners of the automobiles. They paid for a new engine, and also advised us that all incedintal would be covered. Lexus of monterey peninsula decided that they wanted the $400.00 for the diagnostics, and would not pay any costs for a replacement vehicle, as promised in the notice lexus sent us. Lexus of monterey has my vehicle, and i am refusing to pay the diagnostic costs.i am asking for my auto, free of encumberances, and would like costs of retreiving a replacement vehicle to be covered at their expense.
I took my vehicle in for a normal service, and was imformed by the dealer that i had a sludge buildup. Theytried to blame me for it by saying that it was due to poor maintenance on the car. I disputed this since i had receipts to show i had the car serviced within the normal timeframe required by lexus. (however not serviced at the dealer) they told me this problem/repair would cost me $6000. To $12000 to clean or replace the engine.i felt this was a due to a defect in the engine and should be covered under warranty.i have since found numerous people that are having the same problem, or know of someone who has had the same problem. 6 mos later i spoke with an individual who had the same problem and his vehicle was repaired by the dealer at no cost.the dealer states this is a case-by-case basis, even though it is the exact same problem. I contacted the dealer again and they are now willing to cover half of the repair, though i would have to pay for the labor of approx. $2500. I feel this should be completely covered by lexus and not put back onto the consumer. Especially when i have had the vehicle serviced as required in the owners manual.i believe they are trying to cover up a defect in this vehicle, since this would be a extremely costly recall.i was informed by the service manager at the dealership that you can not have sludge build up if you are getting your car serviced within the required timeframe, which i did. So why do i have a sludge build up?answer: must be a defect in this vehicle. Please investigate.
Even though the oil on my rx 300 was changed 2,700 miles ago, the engine developed engine sludge in the 3.0, 6 cylinder. Lexus is trying to blame it on me for not changing the oil at their dealers. They want to charge me $500.00 just to look to see what the internal damage is and then anywhere from a re build of the engine for $6000 to $8000 or an entire new engine for $13,000.00 plus labor. I have since found numerous individuals with the same problem all citing the same engine, symptoms etc. On top of this, i witnessed the lexus service manager "rushing" to take digital photos of the inside of the engine and they quickly documented an "owner neglect" file in their master lexus records. After talking with several people and mechanics, we now believe that this is a cover up on the part of lexus to avoid what could be one of the most costly recalls in history. Any help please.....?
Inspite of changing the oil within warranty guidelines, my rx 300 developed engine sludge in the 3.0 6 cylinder engine.a search of the internet disclosed that numerous owners of the rx 300 and other toyoto cars, like the sienna, have developed engine sludge even with timely oil changes..through the internet i have also learned that " the 3.0 liter v-6 engine found in the lexus rx 300 was redesigned in 1999. It was modified to improve fuel efficiency and reduce pollutant emissions. This modification included reduction in the size of the coolsnt passage on the head gasket so that cyliner heads run at excessively hot temperatures. The oil is literally frying, resulting in sludge."http: philip.greenspun.com/materialism/cars/sienna.html. Also, from www.carreview.com/reviews/vans_minivans/product_225.shtml "...the coolant system may not be operating correctly or thoroughly enough to keep the oil from frying and sludging up ultimately clogging the ports and burning up the motors. Some mechanics think it has to do with the aluminum heads warping...and not just in the sienna, that engine has been reported to have problems on the lexus 300.."
Took vehicle in for a routine check ,and after a couple of days consumer notice vehicle was driving differently.took back vehicle to dealer and, they stated thatengine needed replacing.please provide any further information.
Engine has a jell like buildup and valves knock. There is a technical service bulletin. Please provide any furhter information.
Car's engine would not turn over when the car was in a garage after 5 days of no use.
After approximately 62,000 engine light illuminated.the oxygen sensor was replaced by my local repair shop.after the engine light came back on, and i reattempted to use my local shop 3 times i brought it to the dealer.the problem is the mass airflow sensor/meter. This seems very premature for this type of part to fail.for a auto comapny that professes quality i was disappointed for this problem to arise.i am past warranty and am petitioning lexus to pay for some of the repair.
While driving the vehicle, rear speaker exploded sending the plastic cover of the speaker across the vehicle and damaging the rear door.the car was inspected by the dealer who has no idea why this happened.

The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300.the contact heard a screeching sound that occurred intermittently when the vehicle was started.the sound would cease several minutes later.the contact believed that the transmission was the cause for the noise.she also noticed that the outer casing for the headlights turned a milky white color, which hinders effective lighting.the vehicle had not been diagnosed and the manufacturer was not notified.the current mileage was approximately 76,900 and failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

At 40 mph or above, with thesun roof opened, the air entering the vehicle makes the whole vehicle shake and creates a loud air noise which will hurt your ears.i contacted both the dealer & the manufacturer.they both acknowledged that this problem exists on each & every rx-300.it also occurs when the sun roof is closed and the rear windows are down.their fix is for me to close the sun roof, close all the windows and turn on the air conditioner.this is not acceptable.lexus stated that they do not have a fix for this problem.please help.i do not enjoy driving this vehicle, plus i spent $1,000. 00 just for the moon roof.longo lexus suggested that i purchase an external roof mounted air deflector and rain/air deflectors around the windows.they were willing to sell me these items.

Was driving home from work on the highway it started slipping it was getting out gear now it moves on low gearno drivereverse or 2nd onlylowgear
On 11/03/12 i put the transmission shifter into reverse and backed out of a driveway into the street. I then moved the shifter from "r", past "n" into "d" to move forward, but there was no engagement into any gear. The shifter just moved forwards and backwards with no resistance. There was previous no indication of any problem. The engine was still running. I didn't want to be hit by another vehicle, so i got out of the lexus and pushed it back into the driveway and turned off the engine.on 11/5/13 i disassembled the dash and shifting console and found that the shift cable was no longer attached to the shifting lever. There were pieces of some kind of plastic retainer broken around the cable termination "loop" and lying on the floor. I still have the broken parts.on 11/5/12 i called lexus corporate office at 800-255-3987. I explained that i could have been seriously injured (or worse). I wanted this fixed, or at least the part that holds the cable onto the shifter. They said i needed to have a "repair order #" to proceed. I was able to drive to lexus of palm beach by holding the cable on the shifter when i needed to shift. Their service manager inspected, took pictures, and provided #7200550. I then called corporate back with that #. I received a 11/20/2012 letter from lexus corporate. They would not provide any parts/repairs based on warranty expiration.on 1/13 i finally had time to effect a d.i.y repair. I made a nylon sleeve for inside the cable "loop" and used a common e-clip to retain the loop onto the shifter lever rod. Please see pictures at http://sdrv.ms/10o9rfn for damage and corrective action .have accidents/deaths already occurred due to this? how many needless $6000 transmission rebuilds has lexus got out of this? this repair can be done in under 30 minutes for about $2 in parts.please keep others from avoidable harm.
Transmission stop working when i was driving at 40 miles for hour no drive or reverse, i turn off the engine andon again , work for few miles and had same problem . I call a tow truck. I try again at home and now transmission doesn't work and i see smoke from the transmission dipstick coming out. I check online and many people had the same problems with the lexus rx 300.
At approximately 150,000 my lexus rx 300 seized after pulling into a parking lot.i tried to restart the car and it would not move/turnover. Obviously, had to have it towed and the entire transmission needed to be replaced.i purchased a rebuilt transmission to the tune of about $4,000.there are numerous reports of this model of lexus repeatedly having the transmission fail.i'm wondering why the nhtsa does not issue a recall at this point - at least investigate this issue., so those who own these vehicles canrecoup some of the cost for the failures of this transmission.
I purchased a vehicle at bond auto sales on 12/24/2010. After a few days, i called the dealershipto let them know that truck was not running correctly. It was running in 3rd gear idling high. I was told that there was nothing they could do, i called back a few days later, the car would turn off , it was also eating up oil, i was told to bring in the truck so that their mechanic could look at it, and he test drove the truck and said there was nothing wrong. The salesman said that he would speak to his manager and not to take it to another mechanic. They took my phone number and my husbands phone number, we never got a call back.my husband and i tookthe truck to the dealership and spoke to the manager directly. Iasked if they could look at the truck because i felt the problem was getting worst and it may be the transmission, they decided to take a look at the car. The manager called me to tell me that the transmission was bad, it would cost $1500.00 to repair. He wanted me to bring in $500.00 that same day, and i had not even had the car for 30 days. I asked if they could put me into another car because i really did not have the money. I gave them $4000.00 cash, when i initiated this deal, i did not have $500.00. They refused to work with me at all, i had my first car payment due january 29, 2011, and had no guarantees that the truck would be alright. The only choice that i had was to voluntarily give the car back, which i did, the same day january 20, 2011. I asked for something with the company letter head stating that i had returned the truck, and they refused. All i got was a small receipt with their logo, my info, date and it does say voluntary return 01/20/2011. I keep getting bills saying that my car pyt. Is late, even though they have the truck. Now they are going to report to the credit as a repo, and that is not fair to me. I gave the car back 1/20/11
The transmission on my rx300 just gave out. It was regularly maintained - the fluid levels were checked and had a major overhaul on it before i gave it to my daughter who goes to school in houston, where the incident happened. She only uses it for local commute - not long distance driving. The intent was to give her a dependable vehicle!it i have about 149000 miles on it. The replacement cost is enormous - more than the vehicle is worth. I demand better quality for a luxury vehicle. Obviously it is a defective product that should have been recalled. I now see numerous transmission problems reported on this vehicle. Why are we allowing such lemons on our streets!
Transmission began not shifting smoothly and mechanic put in transmission fluid but could not locate any issues with it. Tranmission soon went completely out at 88,000 miles while driving on highway. Only owned suv for a year and a half. Had inspected before purchase and no problems noted. Very disappointed and will not pay several grand to buy another transmission which is more than the value of the car. Lexus should be ashamed. Just found out how to report this here.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted, but failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 140,369.updated 10/22/2014*lj updated 05/19/2015
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300. While the vehicle was undergoing regular maintenance, the mechanic noticed metal shaving in the transmission pan. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000. The vin was not provided.
Transmission is bad.
Transmission failed due to bad design. Many others have same failures. Need recall.
Premature transmission failure. Purchased used with 85,000 miles. Transmission fluid changed at suggested intervals. Car will not move in any transmission selector position. After research, found that this is a common problem with this year and model lexus.
My transmission failed 5 yrs ago was not told why. They replaced it but i had to pay for labor. They put in new parts except for remanufactured casing. Now december 2015 with only 24,000 miles on it since i am retired, failed to go in reverse or go into second gear. Have noticed online alot of people are having problems with transmissions of lexus vehicles. Now i am told by lexus speacialist (800-255-3987) they only want to pay for half of parts and was told it just failed we don't know why and they refuse to investigate again unless i want to pay for labor. It seems from online complaints that they are making owners pay for diagnostics and or replacements & labor. I have never felt more unsafe in a car when my vehicle wouldn't shift into gear while driving on a road with 55mph speed limit while i could only drive 10 miles an hour. I had to pay $128 to have it towed to dealership on 01/04/2016 because they would not accept any diagnostics from any one else nor pay for tow. I was delayed in efforts because of holiday. Please make them accountable.
Shifter lever moves freely (and loosely) but doesn't shift the transmission into any gear.this happened in a publix parking lot after backing out of a parking space and attempting to put the vehicle into drive.aaa was called and the rx300 had to be loaded onto a flat bed and brought to a service center.
We bought this vehicle (lexus rx300 4wd) on 11/29/2002 with 27,080 miles on it from local lexus dealer.it is my wife's primary vehicle and she drives it to work daily (about 20 miles per day). At 111,000 miles the check engine light came on and the transmission was shifting erraticallyie. Down shifting suddenly when it shouldn't and slipping gears.it also makes a strange constant noise. It had been more and more shifting this way off and on for 2 or 3 months. I took it to lexus dealer on 8/24/2011 because of check engine light and the service consultant stated it needs new transmission (this was said in the same tone of "you need a new air filter") and they would replace it for $5,208.80.when i asked service consultant if this was a very common problem he stated that it was not.he said my transmission could totally fail ant any time even while driving.this is a definite safety issue.the operators manual states "it is necessary to change transmission fluid only if your vehicle is driven under special operating conditions" which we don't.i checked edmunds and blogs on line and there are hundreds of complaints over this issue and i think it needs to be investigated because i don't want my wife to get in an accident on the interstate and so it just sets in my garage.
I serviced my lexus throughout it's life.now the transmission suddenly locked up.after checking to see if this was a design flaw and if anyone else had the same problem, i found out it is a common problem with this year and model.when i took it to the transmission repair facility they too told me that the transmission was flawed in its engineering design and that no oil was able to reach the vital components and that over time they dried out and became brittle.i think the nhtsa should look into this and make lexus corp. Compensate people who "got had" by lexus....this $45k car shouldn't have this happen with this low mileage.
With little/no warning, automatic transmission (2wd) failed.all gears (p,r,n,d,2,1) worked like neutral gear.if this would've occurred a few minutes earlier, my children and i (located at a sharp turn over a steep hill) could've been seriously injured or killed.apparently, this is a common problem in lexus rx300's from year 1999-2002.how many early transmission failures does it take to have a recall?
Told before purchasing that transmission was rebuilt. Not shifting properly. I was told it was an electrical issue power train. I also am not visible to most drivers in the we morning dusk dark hours of the days due to lighting. Pulled over by law enforcement a few times in regards to the lights. One owner before me and did not get any recalls done. I called lexus @ grapevine tx and they told me there were no recalls on my truck. There h e been and they need to be done asap. I have a disabled child and can not jeopardize the safety of my child. I need help getting this matter taken care of asap. Thank you!

The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300. While parking the vehicle, the gear shift failed to reverse the vehicle without warning. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. With no warning signs at all the transmission on my lexus rx300 has failed.the car never previously failed to engage in any gear, however, while driving the car decreased in speed and would not switch gears to accelerate.we stopped at a red light, and the car would no longer move.luckily we had made the rare choice of not driving on the freeway that particular night. The transmission fluid had been checked 3 weeks earlier, and the car has had regular maintenance and oil changes.after further research i am finding hundreds of complaints of the same problem with this model of lexus, and evidence that there is a design flaw in this transmission set up.for the price of these cars i cannot understand why there has been no recall.there is no reason why a transmisson should fail at 126,000 miles on this car.we have been told that the repair cost could be between $3500-$5000.this is not the quality that i expected with the purchase of this car.we have had to replace the oxygen sensors, the mass air flow sensors the vvt valves and oil pan, and now we are faced with the great expense of replacing a very expensive transmission that should still work.i am very disappointed, and while i have promoted the purchase of lexus cars to my friends and family members, and vowed to purchase again, i am not certain that i want to spend very hard earned money on the dream of quality that doesn't exist.
2008 transmission failed at 100,600, replaced and again failed in 2011 at 131,000, failed at 134,000, now being told the ecm computer is causing the hard shifting at 2nd to 3rd upshift.was told the same tranny is in the recalled rav4.
Transmission will not shift into the last gear.
Lexus 2000 rx300 transmission failure.
Bought this 2000 rx 300 5 months ago transmission is burned out approximate cost is $5,000.00.
Well taken care of 2000 lexus rx300 has failed transmission. Could have caused accident as went out on busy road with no notice. 100k predominantly highway miles. Very well cared for, one owner vehicle. New transmission cost equals $4000 per dealer call. A transmission should not go out on a well cared for, highway driven vehicle. Would love to have shared a picture of my gmc yukon pulling my wife's lexus to the toyota dealership this morning. Awful reliability for what the price of this car originally cost. The lexus was purchased for perceived reliability. I guess perception is not reality. Buyer beware on lexus high priced garbage!
After leaving highway transmission failed and front wheels locked.will not move in any gear.
Transmission failure.
My 2000 lexus rx300 transmission has required replacement @ 90,000 miles.i have spent $3000.+ for repairs.i believe that recall would restore faith in the name of quality for lexus.be honest.
Transmission failure in lexus rx300.
2000 lexus rx300 with 96,600k miles.transmission failed and locked car up in busy intersection.newincident, and a repair will cost $5, 000 or more.
Transmission failure.
Own a lexus 2000 rx300, transmission failed while driving at highway speed, would not move in any gear. The vehicle only had 56,825 miles. Contacted a lexus dealer and no help was offered, said it would cost $6000 for the repairs.i made a formal request from lexus usa for help but they declined any responsibility. I was 1600 miles from home so i had an independent transmission shop make the repairs.lexus is in fact aware of the problems with the rx 300 transmissions, but refuses to take responsibility for their defective design transmission. I would like to know of any class action suit for this problem. I know they have redesigned the transmission on later models to correct the problem!
Transmission constantly slips out of gear or fails to engage reverse gear from park.car slows suddenly or fails to accelerate because of transmission problem.transmission may need to be replaced.
Rx300 transmission went out at 96,00 miles. Then6 months later, the motor needed work.this is not a quality car as i was led to believe. It hascost too much out of pocket money when the warranty was not honored by houston northside lexus.
Lexus rx 300: automatic transmission complaint. My 2000 lexus rx 300 is having transmission issues. Sometimes it will not shift into overdrive. I'm a mother of three and use the car primarily to transport children and the family dog to various places--i.e.to school, sporting events, carpooling as well as running various household errands and other family related activities. I have maintained the automobile regularly, do not drive abusively, and have not wrecked the automobile. I understand that many other 1999 & 2000 rx300 ownershave experienced similar (or worse) automatic transmission problems. Please investigate the lexus rx300 1999 and 2000 models to determine if this is a widespread flaw and worthy of a recall.thank you.
2000 rx300 lexus. Consumer writes in regards to transmission problems *tgwthe consumer stated the vehicle would not shift into gear. The repair shop found metal in the transmission fluid. The consumer was advised the transmission was beyond repair and a rebuilt transmission was installed.
While driving on highway, lost all forward motion.sudden, unexpected transmission failure resulting in car becomming road hazard.replaced transmission.yet another of the hundreds of sudden transmission failures of the lexus rx300.
There is a forum on edmunds.com with postings of a lot of people who are having transmission problems with their lexus rx300's.i asked for help back in september/october of 2007 and have since had my problem fixed for n/c by lexus.apparently others are not as lucky.
Transmission would not shift, would shift when it shouldn't have, when put in gear would do nothing then unexpectedly lurch forward or backward depending on gear selection.lexus dealer replaced transaxle assembly.
Bought 2000 lexus rx300 in january 2008. By may 2009 replacing transmission around130,000miles . 1st it stared like it was hesitating. By mid day on the interstate during 65/hr, the transmission went out . Had to pullover to the side of the road 30mile/hr at 4000 rpm. Transmission was replaced .drove it home 1 week later same thing. Took back to mr transmission said it was nothing wrong with transmission. Sensors oxygen replaced stop for a little bit. Noticed on and off transmission would slip. Transmission out again along with car idling high and making a popping noise. I guess nothing (recall) will not happen because no one died that seems to be how it works or if it something minor like ummm a light.
Transmission failure lexus rx300 2000 with only 73k miles on car. All scheduled maintenance completed by dealer up to this point. Rebuilt transmission currently being installed at a cost of 3,800 to 4,000 dollars by valley transmission. Planetary gears completely broken in transmission. There are hundreds of these complaints on lexusclub forum, and i would like to add my name to the list.
Transmission failure.
My 2000 lexus rx 300 started shifting funny on december 4th. We took it to the mechanic on december 5th and it was determined that the transmission was failing. I have since learned that this is a very, very common problem for these vehicles and am now out thousands of dollars due to this problem.
While traveling on central expressway in dallas us75 going about 65 my lexus rx300 lost forward acceleration as cars zoomed past me, the engine was still on as i managed to safely exit onto the access road and into a parking lot. I turned the vehicle off and checked for leaks or a broken belt, but found no problem. I restarted the vehicle and kept going.i talked to the lexus dealer in plano but service dept. Was closed and they reffered me to take it into my austin dealer. I was told that without a check engine light nothing would be found. I continued to drive my vehicle andwhile on another trip it lost forward acceleration again, only to find out it was the transmission. I had to replace it , rent a car and then fly back to a toyota dealer to pick it up.
Lexus rx 300driving 65 mph when transmission suddenly popped into 1st gear and would not up shift.limped the car home and have not had a chance to contact dealer.it appears many owners are having this similar problem.i am surprised there has not been a recall on this transmission.
Premature transmission failure. Purchased used with 85,000 miles. Transmission fluid changed at suggested intervals. Car will not move in any transmission selector position. After research, found that this is a common problem with this year and model lexus.
Rx300 failed to go into reverse from park in october 2007.took to toyota dealer insofar as no local lexus dealer in bend, oregon.flushed the transmission fluid.problem returned 4 months later at 2,000 miles into the new atf, with occasional failure in drive gear.4/9/08 vehicle was moving in drive from home garage when transmission went bump/thump twice.50 yards further forward, the transmission began a grinding noise.pulled to side of road and vehicle would not go into reverse, but drive forward was okay.returned to vehicle in 2 hrs and restarted the engine.no reverse gear when shifter was in reverse.neutral would allow freewheel.tried to turn 180 and return to home garage.vehicle was now perpendicular to both lanes of traffic.tried to engage neutral to freewheel in reverse.vehicle seemed to be in gear or park when in neutral on the shifter.drove forward one foot and tried neutral, got a sound like something coming unstuck and becoming synchronized.neutral now allowed freewheel. Reverse gear now worked and i drove the vehicle the 50 yards home and backed it using reverse gear into the garage.68,745 total miles on 2000 rx300.lexus says vehicle out of the 6 year/70,000 drive train warranty.lexus says transmission has failed.
-while driving on the road the transmission failed on a 2000 lexus rx300.the vehicle would not go into neutralthe vehicle would accelerate at low speedsat 15 mph.the contacttookthe vehicle to dealer, and the dealer stated that they tried to see if the manufacturer would cover the vehicle under goodwill, but the manufacturerinsisted that they couldn't cover the repair due to the fact that vehicle was not under warranty.

2000 lexus rx 300 with 82k miles has broken transmission. The car has been well maintained and driven by my wife and the trans went out last fri when she was leaving the parking lot.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300.while driving 47 mph, the contact heard a noise and then felt a jolt in the transmission.the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road.the engine was still running, but the vehicle would not move.the vehicle was towed to a repair shop.the dealer stated that the repair would cost $4,000.the failure mileage was 100,000.
2000 rx 300 fwd with 95k milescrossing ca hwy1 car started making dragging noises and would not accelerate.does not go into low gears, neutral or reverse. Occurs 100% of the time.transmission is dead due to "engineering design flaw" according to the transmission shop rebuilding it for $4000. Thanks lexus - i'm never buying lexus or toyota again.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300.while driving 55 mph, the transmission began losing power and slipping out of gear.eventually, the vehicle would not move at all and had to be towed.the diagnosis was transmission failure.the failure mileage was 110,000.
I was driving my vehicle to work and suddenly the transmission will not move the vehicle. I tried shifting to other gear positions but the vehicle still won't move. First time that this happened on me, i don not know if it occurred before to the previous owner. Bought the 2000 lexus rx 300 in 2004 and has 85k miles when transmission problem happened. Has to pay the dealer $4,000 to repair. Some owners of the same model vehiclehas experienced the same problem.
2000 rx 300 failing transmission.started having trouble shifting in low gears when cold, now shifts inconsistently and sputters while idling.mechanic says we need a new transmission, but i'm afraid fixing the transmission is just treating the symptoms of a design flaw.
Transmission on 2000 lexus rx300 is ruined at 110,000 miles and needs replacement, according to the lexus dealer.the owner's manual said no transmission fluid changes are necessary, yet with the failure the dealer wrote on the receipt that the transmission fluid had not been changed in a timely manner.clearly they are at fault.
The transmission failed in my 2000 lexus rs-300.
Transmission completely failed at 101,000. Complete maintenance records available.
My 2000 lexus rx300 transmission failed and the lexus dealer cost $4,500 fix it. My car was there couple month ago for regular maintenance, they said every thing ok, it had the oil change last week. They said this is the transmission part problem even it had the transmission oil change regularly.
I have a 2000 rx300 that broke down as i was accelerating to enter the freeway coming back from a trip 2 hours north of home. Was eventually able to go about 25mph back to family's house. Aaa towed it then to a mechanic. He took the pan off and said there was a lot of metal.in researching this there are several forums with similar complaints on the rx300. Nothing has been done at this point. We're not sure if we can spend $5000 to repair this car that we thought had such great reliability.
2000 lexus rx300. Consumer states problem with transmission *tgwthe consumer stated the wheels seized.
Transmission gone on my 2000 lexus vehicle, rx300 model.there seems to be a need for a recall as many other owners have experienced this same problem. There was never any indication of problems with transmission and car has been kept up properly.
Ignition stuck in acc position.turned off car normally when i tried to start it i was unable to because the ignition was in the acc position instead of the off position.to correct the problem i had to tow my car home and order a new ignition tumbler, and then have it replaced.
Transmission failure.
Full transmission failure without any advance symptoms at 103,500 miles.vehicle regularly serviced, including 90k complete service at dealer.
This letter is a follow up to a claim i made regarding my 2000 lexus rx300 and its impending transmission issues. I had requested from lexus some good faith compensation for the replacement of my transmission due to the extenuating nature of the issues surround transmission in rx300 in the model year 1999, 2000 and 2001.soon after i purchased the car i found interesting posting at edumnds.com on the more than average failure of the transmissions. At that time i purchased an extended warranty, since i figured that it was not if the transmission failed but when. True to form and right on schedule the transmission failed at 98,000 miles. I was denied any compensation on my issue and was told that lexus had no knowledge of the problem.background. Over 109 complaints have been filed with the national highway safety administration for 1999 rx300s, 108 for model year 2000 (mine) and over 100 for 2001. Over 56 pages on edumnds.com contain complaints on this issue. Yet i was told by the customer service representative at lexus of america that he in fact knew of no issues regarding transmissions in these vehicles. Either he was very nave or not being complete forthright with me if a simple google search produced my results. He claimed that proper servicing of the system would have avoided the issue ' which is also dispelled by other owners.i understand and accept that fact that used vehicles require a certain amount of upkeep and replacement and i accept that premise and plan for those costs. However, i do not believe that i should have to finance a repair that is truly a design flaw in the vehicle and not through any consequence of my simple ownership.i would expect more major repairs on a vehicle of a lesser quality, but not for vehicle that costs $45,000 and boasts 'the pursuit of perfection.' i see this as an integrity issue and that is what's appalling from a company that i have supported since 1989 when i bought my first camry that i sold 12 years later.
Was driving down the interstate with my son in the seat.the car stopped going.almost got smashed by an 18 wheeler.got it towed home and found out i need a new transmission!
I have a well kept 2000 rx300 - transmission went completely out. It was on the interstate heading out of town for christmas. It is a one owner car. What recourse do i have. I paid $4000+ to get it replaced. Not including towing 150 miles and rental car.
2000 rx 300 transmission failure at 120k mile
2000 lexus rx300 transmission failurefailed at 79,780 miles and the replacement failed after 140 miles!the consumer stated engine revs okay but no power to wheels. The consumer stated had vehicle repaired at dealer and the dealer stated the transmission solenoid failed.
Mileage 75000awd rx300complete failure of transmission pump.loss of vehicle control and manuverability => dangerouscar was 100% maintained by a lexus dealerweb revealed many similar failuresfirst time toyota tried to use a lifetime transmission fluid, it did not work!!!!
My 2000 lexus rx300 started having gear slipping problems 3 days ago. Today, the transmission won't go into any gear reverse or forward. After doing research online, it appears that hundred of people have experienced sudden transmission failure on lexus rx models.obviously, both your organization and lexus know of this problem and yet nothing is done about recalling this model with the problem.
Transmission failure in 2000 lexus rx-300 awd with 110,000 miles. While driving to work on a very busy 3-lane highway, i stopped to make a left hand turn with a number of cars behind me. After coming to a stop at the intersection, waiting for cars to clear, when i tried to accelerate through, the car went into neutral although it was still in drive. I tried reverse (risking hitting the car behind me) and it stayed in neutral. After turning the car on and off a couple of times, it finally went into drive and i was able to drive two blocks to the toyota dealer.their service shop checked it out and simply said the transmission needed to replaced at a cost of $5200.the lexus "owner's manualsupplement" with maintenance schedules says only to "inspect" transmission fluid at 30k, 60k, 90k, 120k, and 150k miles.see pages 77 - 97 of the maintenance log book.only for "special operating conditions" is it recommended to change the transmission fluid and then only at 60k and 120k miles. I have not operated the vehicle under any of the special operating conditions. Yet, both the lexus and toyota dealers i use recommend replacing the oil every 15k miles, which i have done. Based on my limited research, this appears to be a common problem with early model lexus rx300's and unacceptable that it should fail, especially given the added service / maintenance that lexus recommends, which is at odds with what is written in their own manual.had this transmission failure happened while driving in 50 -60 mph rush hour traffic , it would have put me in a potentially deadly situation. I strongly suspect lexus is well aware of the problems with this transmission, given their dealer service recommendations and should be held accountable for the cost of repair.
2000 lexus rx300with awd transmission had very hard shifts, and wouldn't even shift into reverse. Took it to aamco and they opened it up and told me i need complete planetary set gears, and charged me $1300 to put it back together. Still problem continued, took it to world wide transmission and they rebuilt for $3,400. Now it shifts better, but often with a kick on the downshifts between 2nd to 1st.
Well taken care of lexus rx 300 transmission failure twice. Used transmission installed in 2004 after first failure.special attention was given such as never shifting gears quickly when backing up and to put into drive. Transmission will be replaced... Again.the used transmission helps to prove transmission failure is inevitable.
Dear sir:i am one of those rx300 2000 lexus owners.i have been faithfully taken my lexus to the lexus dealer for every oil change and problem.i recently took my 2000 lexus with 124,000 miles to lexus for my regular oil change..charging me but failure to tell me that my transmission is having problems.i paid for my service but....i am out the money plus lexus would like me to pay $4,600 for a new transmission.omg...i think looking at all the problems with transmission lexus should help defray the costs...............thanks
My 2000 lexus rx300 with less than 72,000original owner miles on it had sudden transmission failure. After exiting my driveway gate and stopping, i tried to accelerate but the car rolled backwards towards the gate (the end of the drive issloped uphill) as if the transmission selector was in neutral. I applied brakes, stopped, reselected drive and was able to continue to my destination. The automatic shifting between first and second seemed to be delayed and to be slipping, so i took it to the lexus dealer. They had to replace the transmission.
After owning and properly maintaining my 2000 lexus rx300 for many years it the transmission totally locked up on me and my 2 toddlers in the middle of rush hour traffic.it was then flat bedded to a mechanic and i am currently being quoted several thousands of dollars to have the transmission rebuilt.
Early failure of planetary gear set in lexus rx300 transmission failing in morning traffic in busy street.
Lexus 2000 rx300 oil gel problem that is requiring a rebuilt engine and at the same time my transmission is failing and i am being told it will cost $5,000. This vehicle has 106,000 miles but two catastrophic failures.
Transmission started slipping on my 200 lexus rx 300 at 70k milestransmission failurereplaced with a rebuilt transmission.
Lexus rx300 transmission failure at 68,000 miles and 7.5 years old.
The day before thanksgiving on a 300 mile trip to see family, our lexus rx 300 lost the transmission at 86,000 miles and ruined our entire holiday weekend. After going back and forth with corporate lexus they have decided even though they have put our a tsb and are well aware of the transaxle failure in this model, they will not contribute any financial monies to help justify our $6,000.00 bill. I will never own another lexus nor anyone within my family. Very dissatisfied customer
Transmission has completely failed at approx 121,000 miles.
The transmission on my 2000 lexus rx300 went out around 135,000 miles; the transmission was rebuilt in april 2006 and recently went out again around february of 2008. I was recently informed that i needed to replace this transmission again. This is a real sad situation that a luxury car does not last longer than 10 years. I writing because i need some help and or direction in getting this problem solved. I cannot continue to replace a transmission every year. Thanks in advance.
2000 awd lexus rx 300.....i love my car , bought it used at 44,000k, 2002 and it has been good except for the transmission, now at 120,000 and everyone ,dealer and local independents want $4200-$4500, says it is the 'planetary gears' it wasn't throwinga checking engine light, nor a code just ever so often it wouldn't go in reverse.one day going down the road it just quits going. I had taken it in to a local toyota/lexus repair shop many times saying it was changing gears right, and dealer, and they had put the tester on it several times, replaced 02sensors , but all along said it wasn't the transmission, it was!this car has been driven but it has been taken care of as well.i feel if it is a "lexus' a toyota gets 300-500,000 on a transmission shouldn't a lexus do even better?
Transmission failed at approximately 110,000 miles on 2000 rx-200.ran fine until it started making a grinding noise.the transmission had to be completely replaced (including the case).cost $4500.00.
Bought the car used at 145,000 mi. Noticed the car was not shifting into overdrive at about 160,000 mis. Took car the toyota dealer for repair.after $200 of diagnostics and 3 days they determined the transmission was bad.the car will sometimes go into overdrive and sometime it will not causing the engine to rev to 4000to 5000 rpm at highway speeds.this is unacceptable performance.i have read how transmission problems on these cars can cause unsafe driving conditions and now i don't know whether i can trust the safety of drivers and passengers in this car on the highway.
Bought 2000 lexus rx300.85,000 miles.transmission is shot!
Transmission had to be replaced @ 125,000 miles & still does not shift correctly... Aamco santa cruz california will not warranty it stating the problem is not the transmission it is the computer which has to be replaced even though toyota of sc did diagnostic and stated nothing wrong w/ computer in vehicle - aamco has had vehicle aprox 2 months.
Automatic transmission failure at 92k miles. While driving at 35mph heard a clunk noise and then chattering from the engine area. Was able to get safely to the side of the road. Vehicle lost forward and reverse and was towed to the repair shop. New transmission cost $3500.
2000 rx 300 started having a whining noise when first started to go up hills when cold. Transmission then started to slip on way over mountains. I was able to drive to town at slow speed before transmission failed.
Transmission failed while in heavy traffic.no prior indication of a problem.car could not be placed in gear, had to be towed.lexus said that 120k miles was the life span of the transmission and wanted to charge $5,400 for repair. Car had only been service by lexus since purchase, last service was 6 months prior and no indication was given of any expected transmission problem.
Transmission gone at 100k
- the contact stated that the transmission on a2000 lexus rx 300 failed.while driving through an intersection the vehicle suddenly started to lose power and stalled.the contact was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road. While trying to accelerate the vehicle would not accelerate or go into reverse.the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealership.at the dealership, they replaced the transmission on the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle had received regularly scheduled servicing.
Bought my 2002 lexus rx300 brand new with regular maintenance done on scheduled.after a few weeks of slow/slippage shifting the transmission failed and had it service/rebuilt by my local mechanic.i found out on an internet lexus club forum that the transmission is a common problem on the early generation lexus rx300 (year 1999-2001) and i am unfortunately over the power train warranty so i took it to my local mechanic to be serviced.i paid $3800+ to have to repaired - what recourse do i have for buying a supposed to be reliable car?thankfully it was not on a highway when the transmission failed but rather on the off ramp of the highway.
After a few weeks of feeling occasional slippage in the drive train of my 2000 rx300 (118k miles), i had my local mechanic check it out.he drove tested it, checked all fluid levels, visually inspected the transmission, transfer case, u-joints etc and couldn't find a problem.today with no further notice, the transmission fully broke - lurching, clunking, and after pulling over total slippage.i had it towed to a transmission shop where i'm waiting for an evaluation of the situation.if this had happened on a busy highway, i could have caused a severe accident, as there was no acceleration causing a very unsafe and dangerous situation.
Luxury 2000 lexus rx300 transmission failed at 100k miles, cost $4k-$5k for the repairs.
The transmission failed on my 2000 lexus rx 300 after less than 9 years and 106,000 miles.looking online i see that this is a serious problem with this make and model year.lexus is replacing the transmission at a cost of $4000.
Lexus rx 300 transmission failing.making noise.have had two mechanics look at it.appears to be a faulty design.
2000 lexus rx300 transmission failed at 104,000 miles.cost to replace, including labor is $3,976.00.
Transmission failure.
There were no incidents that lead up to the transmission failure it just happened out of the blue. I was driving home from work one day and it would not go in to over drive.
I have 2 lexus rx 300. One of the lexus which has 127000 miles suddenly it wont go in reverse and then after few tries and pumping gas it went in reverse.it is right now with lexus dealer and they said they couldn't find anything, but are investigating. Reading thru the web lots of people have similar problem. I hope transmission problem does not happen while driving the car and wont cause serious accidents. My wife and kids ride these vehicles. I would like to find out any steps have been taken by nhtsa so far in this matter.
I own a 2000 model lexus rx 300 which was been having all services on time at lexus dealer and at 89k mile my transmission has been broken. I have learned that this a common encountered problem by may rx 300 owner and seems possible related to faulty manufacturing. I have contacted lexus for replacement, however there seems to be a need for a recall on this matter.
Purchased 2000 lexus rx300. Serviced by dealer at all recommended times. One previous owner prior to me. At approximately 125,000 miles. Engine light came on, diagnostic done. Need new transmission. Apparently this is a well known problem with this model. How can they be allowed to sell defective product to consumers? isn't that fraud?
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300.the contact stated that the gear set in the front pump shuts down the transmission of her vehicle.the failure renders the vehicle immobile and does not lubricate the transmission properly.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who will replace the transmission.the manufacturer and dealer were not notified because the repair cost would be too expensive.the failure mileage was 120,000.
Transmission failure at 148k, transmission jumped from gears and failed to move.no warning signs.i have kept up with maintenance on this vehicle and still owe and have been reading about this particular model and it appear as though there is a class action suit in process.
Lexus rx-300 yr2000 (transmission problems).
Premature failure of transmission on lexus rx 300. Dealers refusal to step up to pay for an originally defective product, and request to pay $4500 for a remanufactured transmission.lexus' refusal to address multiple complaints of a widespread issue on an obviously defective product. Lexus denial of a clearly manufacturing problem.
Failed transmission after 90,000 miles on a $50,000 lexus rx 300.
2000 rx300 transmission failure at approximately 121,000 miles ... Dealer does not do rebuilds, so quoted for $4100 a new one without any detailed information on what exactly was wrong with it.had it towed to reputable specialist, and was told a rebuild would cost more than a "re-manufacture" ... $3600 + tax for 12 month warranty.got it done, brought it home the 1st day and is leaking transmission fluid so need to bring back for a possible fix or swap.not happy. No other mechanical issues with the car for the 7 years we've owned it.
Bad lexus rx300 transmission.
The transsmision on my luxus rx 300 failed with 120,000 miles. Luxus wanted to pay 25 % of the bill.($4300). I told them tha t a luxus car should not fail with that low mileage.
Failed transmission.
I purchased a 2000 lexus rx 300 7 years ago from the original owner. Last week the transmission died with only 104,000 miles. It is disturbing to me that when i took it to the transmission repair facility they told me that the transmission was flawed in its engineering design and that no oil was able to reach the vital components and that over time they dried out and became brittle. They also said that the transmission "ate itself up". There were massive amounts of metal shavings and the transmission literally imploded. Why i think this is worthy of complaint is that we have always owned toyota vehicles...many and we take meticulous care of our cars. The transmission was serviced on a regular basis and the fluid was pristine. After researching online i found that there are hundreds of complaints about the same year vehicle and transmissions crashing evenat much lower mileage. It cost us almost $3800 to have the transmission rebuilt and i would like to know if this is something that has been addressed previously by nhtsa?
I have a 2000 lexus rx300 with 124,000 miles on it.the transmission has failed in the car after normal driving conditions.the maintenance manual does not indicate to change the transmission oil in the car, only to check it.i have been on numerous lexus internet sites which have stated the same problem has occurred to them with the same model and year lexus.
My transmission just went out on my 2000 rx 300 with 77k. I have felt it slip several times in the last two yrs as i tried to put it in reverse.now it just left me stranded on the road, fortunately close to my home. I have not had the repair fixed yet as i am not sure if i should go to an independent shop or to the lexus dealership.
The transmission in the 2000 lexus rx 300 has failed completely and requires replacement.
Lexus rx300 4-w-drive [xxx] with 109,715 miles experienced a transaxle failure. Transaxle had been flushed at 30,000, 60,000 and 90,000 miles. Repair bill was $5233.16 and the reman part was 3552.23 of the total price. This premature failure is accompanied by many premature failures as revealed in the internet talk forums and appears to be a design problem. Lexus offered $750 compensation. I question the aluminum gears and revolutions allowed during shift as possible design flaws.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
While driving my rx300 the vehicle rpm started going higher than normal. I could only dry the vehicle locally since does not want to shift. When i drive it a 40mph the rpms are at 3 rpm. I search to see if has been a recall or if the lexus corporation is aware of this problem with the tranny in this model..
Failed transmission under 100,000 miles.have spoken to many others with the same vehicle, year, etc with the same problem.
My 2000 lexus rx300 transmission failed on the highway. The car has only 93,000 miles the transmission had to be replaced yesterday. This is the 2nd transmission replacement on this vehicle. The first transmission failed at approx. 55,000 miles and was replaced under the warranty. This transmission replacement i paid $1,700 for the labor and dealer gave me the part.
Erratic shifting, transmission slippage, jerking vehicle, just missed a vehicle crash. This occurred one time without any notice or check engine light indication. Complete transmission failure, unable to move the vehicle. Transmission is being rebuilt by an independent transmission specialist. Planetary gears, solenoid, clutches, and other numerous parts.
Sitting in traffic and started to move when i noticed a feeling like i was on ice. A slight slip, then i moved. Not even a half mile down the road and my car would not move. The engine revved but no movement at all! my transmission went out at 85,000 miles!!!
We bought this vehicle (lexus rx300 4wd) on 11/29/2002 with 27,080 miles on it from local lexus dealer. It is my wife's primary vehicle and she drives it to work daily (about 20 miles per day). At 111,000 miles the check engine light came on and the transmission was shifting erratically ie. Down shifting suddenly when it shouldn't and slipping gears. It also makes a strange constant noise. It had been more and more shifting this way off and on for 2 or 3 months. I took it to lexus dealer on 8/24/2011 because of check engine light and the service consultant stated it needs new transmission (this was said in the same tone of "you need a new air filter") and they would replace it for $5,208.80. When i asked service consultant if this was a very common problem he stated that it was not. He said my transmission could totally fail at any time even while driving. This is a definite safety issue. The operators manual states "it is necessary to change transmission fluid only if your vehicle is driven under special operating conditions" which we don't. I checked edmunds and blogs on line and there are hundreds of complaints over this issue and i think it needs to be investigated because i don't want my wife to get in an accident on the interstate and so it just sets in my garage.
In oct 2009, noticeda slip 2000 rx300 transmissions 30mph.would not slip out of 1st gear so when 5 mph to get home.have rx300 towed to mechanic. Transmission failed at 140,000 miles.replaced with rebuilt transmission.
Drove my lexus rx300 to lake tahoe.it was 28 degrees as i entered the tahoe area.the transmission begain to slip, not maintaining engagement.i was able to get to the hotel but about an hourafter registering i tried to drive and the transmission would not engage.it was now 24 degrees.i tried again in the morning but it still would not engage and now there was a whirling sound.i had it towed to the lexus dealership one hundred miles away.the transmission failed due to the front-side transmission pump.lexus/toyota will not replace the part.since it is an internal transmission problem they will only replace the whole transmission.lexus policy.it is a 15 hour repair.even if it were possible to replace the pump it would have taken more hours to repair. The contact was advised by the dealer prior to purchasing it that it was in impeccable condition. An inspecting authorized mechanic also stated that its rare to see a vehicle in as excellent of a condition. An suv should not have a problem in slight extremely cold conditions. The service technician stated that the transmission failure isnt uncommon if they are in extremely hot or cold climates. The contact stated that there is a design flaw. He has never had to change the transmission fluid as frequent in his previous vehicles. The contact is aware of the safety risk involved. It cost $4700.00
Car has 94,000 miles and has received all scheduled maintenance, including comprehensive 90k service two months ago. No impending problems were reported by dealer. Car made clinging/hesitation when leaving stop sign 2-3 times. Parked car and stopped engine. Car would not move in reverse. Shifted to drive - car moved fwd as much as possible (limited space). Tried rev again - car moved 12-18 inches and made very abrupt stop. Could not shift to neutral. Took car to dealer who recommend complete transmission replacement. Did search for "rx300 transmission failure on internet - found dozens of reports of similar problem - complete transmission failure, with absolutely no warning, on this make/model of car with similar mileage. I believe this is a manufacturing defect that should be investigated.
Loss of power, check engine light, ran extremely roughlexus rx300 2000.
Automatic transmission failure at 84,000 miles.lexus was purchased new and has received all dealer's recommended service at same dealership except the last few, which were performed at another lexus dealership.dealer wants $4,700 to replace transmission with rebuilt transmission.
2000 lexus rx 300 awd: the tone ring on the right rear drive axle cracked causing a false reading to the anti-lock brake system, the cracked ring would not turn in conjunction with the axle causing the abs system to think that the affected axle was no longer tuning therefore activating the abs system and jeopardizing braking distance, after repairing i was wondering how this could have happened and did some inquiries, i found that this is a common problem on these vehicles (right rear axles awd models) water gets into the axle tone ring area, freezes causing the ring to crack and creating a dangerous condition, unnecessary activation of the abs system for the unsuspecting driver lexus dealerships throughout the northeast keep these a supply of these very expensive axles in stock due to their familiarity if this problem.
Throughout the life of seatbelt on the drivers side, it has loosened 4 to 5 inches during normal driving conditions and sometimes while braking.consumer had a rear end collision, and seatbelt didn't hold. Same seatbelt has been replaced twice prior to accident. Consumer sustained neck and chest injuries from hitting steering wheel.the antenna makes noise when going down, the center high mount brake light bulb was replaced.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300.the contact stated that while traveling 60 mph, the vehicle crashed head on into another vehicle and the rear passenger side seat belt failed to secure the passenger.as a result, the passenger sustained a broken leg, broken wrist and needed to undergo surgery.the vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not contacted.the failure and current mileage was 120,000.
My son (2.5-year-old, 32lbs) was sitting in his child seat which was on right rear seat. The child seat was secured with lap&shoulder seat belt. While i was driving on a curvy freeway on-ramp at about 25mph, the seat belt unbuckled itself and my son fell with his child seat onto the floor. His head hit the seat back of the driver seat. The speed post on that ramp is 25mph. Actually, this is the 2nd occurrence of the same problem. The first accident happened on 11/20/2010 on another curvy freeway on-ramp. My kids have been sitting on that child seat on the same seat for the past 5 years. There was no issue until 11/20/2010. Also, my son was very tightly secured in his child seat. His hand was at least 10-15" from that buckle. So there was no way he could unbuckle himself.i called lexus, but was told to visit a local dealer. I took the car to the service department of a local dealer. The service guy did some simple tests of that seat belt, but could see nothing wrong. He then suggested the only solution is to get a new car.
Since i have had the car (2/2000) the driver's seat belt has intermittently loosened 4-6 inches during normal driving conditions as well as while braking.the seatbelt has been replaced 2x, but the problem persisted and the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the seatbelt loosening.the factory rep sent out by lexus also could not find anything the matter.the problem was always intermittent.in late june i rearended 1 possibly 2 cars while going at approx 35mph.the seatbelt failed to hold me in place, i hit the steering wheel sustaining an acute chest wall contusion (documented after being taken by ambulance to the nearest emergency room).lexus continues to claim there is nothing wrong with the seatbelt.
Incident because of sudden unintended acceleration when my foot on the brake.
The contact owns a 2000 lexus rx300. The contact stated that he was trying to park the vehicle but the vehicle was slow to decelerate. The contact depressed the brakes but stopping distance was increased by three feet. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that he should take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection but the contact declined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 172,000. The vin was unavailable.
2000 lexasrx 300 car skided on ice and flipped over when trying to correst the skid
The brakes have failed at least 6 times.the vehicle is usually going about 25-30 mph and the brake is already engaged when it fails.the brake pedal goes to the floor and a few seconds later re-engages.the vehicle has not gone through any standing water, the roads have been dry and there has not been "panic" braking.the dealership, keyes lexus in van nuys, has been unable to find anything wrong and refuses to attempt to replace any parts.we do not feel safe driving this vehicle.
When braking there was a popping noise, and vehicle took longer to slow down. Consumer had to apply more pressure.this progressed to clicking and squealing associated withsmell of fire, like rotors were grinding. Took to dealer, and they lubed the brakes, and pivoted points. This stopped the noise, but did not fix the problem. Consumer has continued to have the problem every 3000 miles.please provide any further information.
I experienced around 15,000 mileage a noise when applying brakes very similar to the road surface changing from smooth to rough.i assumed since the vehicle had just been in for service that the brakes/brake system had been adjusted and that it was noise was normal.the noise as i continued to drive increased when applying brakes and graduated to also a vibration in the steering wheel when application.it wasn't until a relative indicated to me that the sound was not normal did i take the vehicle in for service.i was told that the noise and vibration was due to rotor surfaces that needed to be turned.i was also told that it was due to stop and go driving.i stated to the service representative that i did not think it was normal for the brakes to have even wear and the rotors to have bluing spots that i observed.i also indicated that 99 percent of my driving was highway and not stop and go.i asked the service technician to contact lexus customer support and they agreed that the problem was due to normal wear.i do not.i think these vehicles have a problem with the braking/rotor systems and that the customers was being charged for a defects.i was charged $277.40 to resurface rotars.i think that the problem that initially started at 15,000 miles is the result of defects in the braking system and not driving habits and traffic conditions.
Over the last 10-11 months vehicle has been experiencing brake problems. Vehicle travelling 25mph, when brakes are depressed, pedal will go all the way to the floor and then return to normal after a few seconds. Vehicle has been checked by dealer 3 times, and they could not find any problem.consumer scared to drive vehicle fearing loss of brakes.
Consumer took vehicle to dealer forbrakes. On august 15, 2001engine check light came on.consumertook vehicle back todealer.
Shortly after i puchased my vehicle i began having flat tires at 1200,1700 and 2018 miles. When the tires went flat, they were off the rim flat, due to the soft construction for the rubber for the luxury ride. The tire manufacturer was notified and the problem was remedied with replacements. At or around the same time i noticed problems with the brakes. Ie, excessive squeeling, popping and delay in stopping. I have made 4 trips to the dealer for repair consisting of lubrication, rear pad replacement, front pad replacement, replacement of brake pad hardware with the hardware replacement taking 2 weeks to repair and that was at 12000 miles. I contacted the dealer again regarding the brakes at 12913 miles. I also stated concern about the thin paint job on the auto and how many chips where on the car at which point i was informed that several customers where complaining about the paint on their cars.
I took my lexus 2000 because it shimmied badly. The dealer could not loosen the nut because the whole cylinder disc assy was rusted so badly that they have to saw it off.the brake pad could not even move, they have to change the arm that connect braking. I was never warned about this problem.

The vehicle experienced brake failure on 6 different occasions, and has been inspected 3 times, when the pedal is applied it engages and goes to the floor, after a few seconds the brake will re-engage.the dealer has been unable to correct the problem.the consumer suggested that if the brakes are unable to be fixed, then the dealer should re-purchase the vehicle.*scc
Steering locked while vehicle was in motion. Turning right, my vehicle steering wheel locked while in motion and would not allow me to straighten out. This almost caused me to drive off the road, but thankfully slamming on the brakes, i stopped before doing so. Upon reading reviews, other lexus rx-300 drivers have had this same occurrence. This malfunction could cause major injury or death. I am requesting the nhtsa immediately conduct a review of these vehicles and force lexus to perform a mandatory recall before more people are injured or killed.
When changing lanessteering wheel went intoopposite direction, resulting in a collision. Dealer has inspectedvehicle, and has not been able to duplicate or correctproblem.manufacturer has been notified.throttle was sticking.speaker failed.consumer heard a rattling noise in right front dash area, dealer replaced the glove compartment.
Upon entering the vehicle occupant pressed door locks and shut the door. But did not have the vehicle's keys, after 30 seconds, alarm went off, and the occupant could not get out of the vehicle.had to break a window in order to get out of the vehicle.please provide further information.
If the wireless remote is used to lock the vehicle and a person in it, then after 30 seconds the security system activates and the person in the vehicle is trapped.none of the door handles or windows will operate.

Hellorecently i had a problem with my lexus rx300 hatch back door coming loose.first, the bolt that holds one of the hydraulic cylider that were used to keep the door open broke, and then the handle that opens the hatchback door broke and shot closed.the only thing that was holding the door was the other cylider.had that broken loose, the door would have had fallen off the vehicle.when i took it in for repair, i have been told by lexus that it was a normal wear and tear.i could not believe it.i have learned since then that this issue that i had experienced is not an isolated incidents.i have heard that this is a common problem in rx300 anddefinitely a safety issue.the affected vehiclesshould have been recalled to be fixed.i am writing this letter to nhtsa headquarter in washinton to request to look into this problem.i am very concerned that it could have caused serious safety hazard on the road.please look into this issue as soon as possible.
Vehicle overturned 3 times due to right front wheel breaking.dealer notified.
There is a rattling noise on the right side (glove box and/or dashboard) while going over bumps at aroun 5-30mph.also, when traveling on the highway at 50-65mph, if the rear windows are open (front windows closed) the air flow into the car causes a terrible "wind flapping" noise (unbearable to ears), and the car also shakes.
Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 30 mph, on wet road conditions, vehicle control was lost.the vehicle began to veer to the right and the steering wheel and brakes failed.the vehicle stopped when it colliding with a parked vehicle.a piece of metal was observed on the ground after the incident.there was a police report taken at the scene.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, where it was determined an air bubble in the metal of the control arm caused the accident.the shop replaced the passenger side control arm, strut, inner and outer tie rod, and the boot kit.
Dt:vehicle was purchased used from a honda dealer in texas, banxten honda. Vehicle was just out of the four year warrant., however, it had power train warranty left. Consumer was driving in california when he made a right hand turn andthere was an explosion.vehicle pulled violently to the left and consumer was able to turn vehicle to the right with great effort to avoid a big truck. Vehicle came to a stop, and consumer found that the ball joint on the front drivers side failed. Consumer has photographs of this. Insurance had vehicle towed to dealer in van nuys california, keyes lexus.also, manager checked on vehicles service history and found that vehicle was serviced regularly, and that the power train warranty was still in affect. Vehicle has about 60,000 miles on it. Manufactrurer was notified, and told consumer that dealer should not do any repair until factor inspector had a chance to do an inspection on vehicle. This happened about july 11, 2005. Yesterday, july 20, 2005, manufacturer contacted consumer and said that inspection was done, and manufacturer would pay to have vehicle fixed because the component was not covered by the warranty. They were not aware of any defect with the ball joint. Consumer said that he has found that ball joint had the same part number ofball joints that they had issues with the finishing procedure for. Recall on a lexus gs 300 1993, recall was dated april 3, 1995, defect summary stated that spherical portions of certain lower ball joints had finished surfaces that were not smooth, causing friction with the surface of the ball joint cap. This condition couldlead to separation of ball joint, increasing the potential for vehicle accident. Also, says toyota has had other issues with ball joints used in pickups and suvs.also, about finishing. Part number for part was l2020-146563. Consumer'sineck and shoulder were injured.

Was driving home from work on the highway it started slipping it was getting out gear now it moves on low gearno drivereverse or 2nd onlylowgear
I went into my garage and got in my car (lexus rx300,2000). It started normally, but it would not shift until i pressed the override button and put it into reverse. As soon as the shifter hit (r) the throttle seemed to go wide open and the car bolted out of the garage. Luckily, since my foot was on the brake almost instantly i was able to stop the car before it got out of control. The car traveled about 30 ft before i could stop it. I think i put it into park and just sat there and tried to calm down. I was terrified because of the horrible consequences of blasting out into the street etc. After, calming down i was able to continue on with a great deal of trepidation. As i drove i was constantly trying to plan what to do if it happened again. This was extremely dangerous, if the car had gone into drive it would have blasted into the garage wall, or worse.addendum: [xxx], i inspected the car after the incident and could nothing wrong. However, i am a controls system engineer and it certainly sounded like a classic bounding/ boundary problem in the control software. By this i mean that the inputs to the control loop exceed the allowed values. Or due to some unusual set of inputs there is an overflow problem , where the loop does a calculation that causes the value to crossover from all ones to all zeros, this overflow issue can have very unexpected results, like railing the controlled parameter. It turns out that this model lexus engine seems to have a mechanical throttle linkage, so the only software controlled throttle commands have to come from the cruise control box, since it also has an independent cable linkage to the throttle plate. I disconnected the cruise control cable to be certain this could not recur.this implies that any toyota with cruise control is at risk, but it should allow a quick safety fix, just disconnect the cruise cable.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
2000 lexus rx300. On 3 occasions, in 2006, the car's gas pedal was stuck in the down position - therefore i was unable to stop the vehicle. Took the vehicle to lexus dealer 2 times (there are records of that), called them once, was told it was safe. After the 3rd time with the pedal sticking, had to sell vehicle. Frequency of appearance - it all happened within 10 days. Could not duplicate for lexus dealer to fix the problem.
I experienced and had an accident due to the revving engine issue with toyota/lexus. I have a 2000 (used) lexus suv and was pulling into a parking space in the lot of a business when the accident happened. I did not have my foot on the gas as i was allowing the car to "creep" into position but had it hovering and/or touching the brake pedal. All of a sudden the engine revved and starting speeding forward, again without my foot on the gas pedal.it happened suddenly and quickly and i immediately hit a sign at the front of the parking space.this set off the air bags, jamming me back in the seat and pulling the seat back. I could not longer reach the pedals but i was stunned by the seat belt explosion.the car went over the sign (flattened it), over a low cement barricade, and into the side of the business.i was not seriously injured due to the air bags but the front of the car was badly damaged.i've never received an type of recall notice and nothing has been done to repair the defect.i'm driving a very scary time bomb.
Incident because of sudden unintended acceleration when my foot on the brake.
While driving, the car jerks and then cuts off. This has happened at least half a dozen times within the last 2 months. Engine light is constantly on, even after servicing the car at local lexus dealer. When car is parked, i noticed exhaust fume smells heavily with gas.
While pulling into a parking slot in agarage, my lexus rx300 suddenly accelerated and slammed into a concrete wall. Both front seat passenger air bags were deployed.

My parents own a 2000 lexus rx300. On the way back from a wedding, the car started to accelerate and my dad could not stop the car. He had to go over through a gas station parking lot to avoid cars stopped at a light. He said the engine kept revving high and the car kept accelerating. He was able to stop the car by running the wheels along the curb. After my dad and my mom were safe, he called me. I rushed over to the car and checked it out. No check engine lights and no other known issues. I called aaa for a tow. I started the car and everything seemed to be okay so i moved it into the parking lot away from the street.i let the car sit for awhile and made sure there was nothing wrong with it.i also checked the floor mats just in case something was stuck but nothing was.they ended up driving home that night. We had to service the brakes because they were all worn from the ordeal.
