Consumer was involved in a collision and the air bags did not deploy.scc ph

I turned around in a parking lot by backing up and reversing my direction, after i reversed my direction the car shot forward without my foot on the gas pedal. I kept pumping the brake hoping it would stop and i shot out of the parking lot into the line of traffic and avoided two lanes of cars driving west until i collided with a car heading east. It ripped off the front bumpers of both cars. I felt trapped in the car and could not control it. It just kept accelerating. I wish that i had the presenceof mind to turn off the key or push the automatic lever to neutral or even reverse. But it all happened in a few seconds and i just didn't have the presence of mind to do anything but step on the brake pedal. Just once before, some months ago, i was parking the car in a public garage and it accelerated quickly asi reached an off ramp. Luckily i was able to turn the steering wheel and negotiate the car around the corner onto the ramp. It scared me, but i thought it was just a freak incident and thought no more about it because i was able to slow the car down once i went round the corner. But this latest time i couldn't stop it and the car is a total wreck.

While driving, temperature points up and then down to bottom, and stay down. Stop the car, check radiator, it's cold. Restart the car, vsc off sign came out. Continune driving, after 25 min. Noticed sound in front wheels, get off freeway. Battery off sign showed up. Push the car across the street, smoke came out from underhood. Fire came out from underneath of engine. Witness pull me away from the car. Call 911, and put out the fire. Full investigation report thru aaa available, which showed: "electrical wiring was shorted and started a fire consuming components, which were located forward the engine assembly causing heavy engine compartment damage".

Radiator cracked.

Consumer concerned thatthe lexus may have misrepresented the emergency function of lexus link communication system. The lexus link system would not work in some of the areas the consumer visited.on one occasion the consumer picked up the phone and was intercepted by a computer voice which said that he could receive service if he made a credit card payment.the phone had no keypad therefore the consumer could not respond.

Lexus floormats, same problem as toyota, unable to connect to floor, they slide and get under accelerator...

The contact owns a 2001 lexus ls430.while driving 3 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning.the contact believed that the cause of failure was due to the floor mats being caught underneath the accelerator pedal.there is defect investigation # pe07016 for the 2007 lexus es350.the contact wanted to have her vehicle included in the investigation.the vin and engine size were unavailable.the current mileage is 62,000 and failure mileage was 61,000. Cd player, not in working order, doesn't eject or let consumer put in cd's. Not usable, cd player should be replaced by manufacturer.

The headhight only shines about 40 to 60 feet in front of the left headlight when on low beam, then it is completely dark from there on.had lights checked and adjusted.would like to know how far low beam should shine in front of a car.

I owned a 2001 lexus ls430 from 2001 to 2004.during that time, the car would accelerate by itself when going slowly - down my driveway, into my garage, out of my garage, pulling up the driveway.it only happened when going very slowly - say five miles an hour or less - but it consistently happened.i took it to the local dealer a couple of times and they said, "we did not notice anything."i wasn't really concerned since i was usually only going around five miles an hour, and i would depress the brake firmly to not go faster, but it happened often.i eventually sold the car.i wonder if that car had problems like the recalled ones?don't know if the gas pedal was sticking or if the software running the engine was revving it up.it seemed like the gas pedal would actually depress on its own when this happened.

The driver/owner of the lexus ls 430 was pulling in to a parking spot behind another car at a private club.it was straight in parking behind a gmc yukon.in pulling into the spot, the right rear tire went over a curb, and suddenly the car accelerated like a rocket.the driver stepped on the brake and nothing would stop it.since the car was only about one foot away from the parked yukon, the lexus was stopped by the impact.the car was put in park and the engine turned off.air bag did not deploy.damage was done to rear bumper of the yukon and the front bumper of the lexus as well as an a/m reinforcement beam and other external damage.as of this date, damage to the engine of the lexus is undetermined.

Can not open drivers door from inside.

Suddenly the drivers door does not open from inside. While inside the car i have to roll down the window and openthe door with outside handle.the car has not been in any accidents.

Rear door latch failed and the door no longer closes. Dealer said the plastic latch deteriorated and needs to be replaced with a new one but there is no service bulletin on it. Looks like a safety issue why the door latch is made from plastic and the door can actually open while in motion.

On my 2001 lexus ls 430 the trunk struts do not support the trunk very well at all. The trunk is difficult to open and closes on your head almost every single time.

Lift supports unable to support trunk. In 2006lexus las vegas, nv quoted us $750.00 to fix the problem. Found the cost prohibitive and decided to make do with propping-up trunk with woodenstick each time we open. We are a retired couple in our late sixties, we find the propping-up physically taxing and clearly a safety issue. Yesterday, were it not for my wife's fast reflex, her head would have seriously smashed when a gust of wind slammed the propped-up trunk.

I have a 2001 lexus ls430 with approx. 72,000 miles in excellent condition. The trunk lid does not stay up securely and in windy conditions it drops down. On a couple of occasions it hit my head when i was removing some items and whilst i was lucky that since my head was inside, i was not hit by the sharp edge of the trunk and not injured badly but it could have been really worse. The problem is caused by defective struts in the trunk opening mechanism. I checked on the internet and i see hundreds of complaints about this issue and all sorts of places (e.g. Ebay) advertising replacement struts. I feel that this is a major safety issue in a luxury car of this caliber and lexus should recall and fix this problem.

Trunk lid struts on 2001 lexus ls 430 failed and the heavy trunk lid nearly bashed my brains out.

The contact owns a 2001 lexus ls430. While driving approximately 60 mph, the rear passenger side door suddenly opened. He pulled over and closed it. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the door latch system failed and needed to be replaced. He called the manufacturer and filed a complaint with a representative. The vehicle has not been repaired to-date. The current and failure mileages were approximately 133,000.

I had opened the trunk on my lexus sl-430 to place some personal items for transport.i was leaning down when suddenly the trunk lid came crashing down with the corner of the trunk striking me in the area around the eye and the upper cheek bone.the injury resulted in bruising and swelling around the eye and has resulted in continuing pain, swelling and discomfort in the eye, ear and cheek bone.after the incident the trunk was inspected by me and other company personnel and it was discovered that the hydraulic trunk struts necessary for the safe operation of the trunk had both failed. I have since had the trunk struts replaced.

This vehicle was stopped. The vehicle following this vehicle fail to stop and collided into the rear of this vehicle. Damage was minimal @ $4000. No exterior metal damage. Drivers seat collapsed into the recline position. Contacted lexus, who sent a representative to inspect the car. Lexus sent a letter explaining that the seat is in fine working order, but refuses to explain why the seat collapsed into the recline position.

The contact owns a 2001 lexus ls430. The contact stated when the brake pedalwas applied it extended to the floorboard and it had to be depressed several times in order for the vehicle to come to a stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a local mechanic who were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.

Approached an intersection with a red light while driving approximately 40mph.when i pressed my brakes from about a block away, my 2001 lexus ls430 suddenly surged.i had two feet on the brake and also tried to put the car in neutral, then park.the car did not slow down.was going approximately 50mph when i rear-ended someone because my car would not stop.my car was totaled, both driver and passenger airbags deployed.i was using the floor mat that came with the vehicle and it was fastened.i filed a complaint with toyota the day after the accident, and received a response on jan. 21, 2010.toyota stated in the letter that they found no sticking of the accelerator and that it was virtuallyimpossible for both the brakes and the throttle to fail at the same time.

Dt:the brakes did not work properly. The brakes were soft and mushy. It was like pushing on a pillow. It was hard to judge if they were going to work. Took the vehicle to the dealer, and said everything was normal. Have another lexus and it did not do this. Started noticing thisonmarch 30, 2005. Rear ended another vehicle.

Traveling at 45 50 mph when approaching traffic applied brakes and vehicle continued to accelerate the brakes did not slow the vehicle down the vehicle owner says that the floor matt was locked in place

When brakes are applied theirs 6 inches of play before the brakes engage. If driver keeps their feet on brake pad, without applying force it will continue to go downwards, resulting in driver hitting the gas pedal. Thisproblem resulted in an accident. The dealership identify the cause of the problem. *dt

2001 lexus ls430 - power telescopic steering wheel tilt up/down suddenly stopped working (manual and automatic).

Tilt steering suddenly stopped working.now only telescopic feature works.

The trunk deck lid on my 2001 lexus ls430 will not stay open. The trunk struts have failed. The car has only 77,000 miles on it. The problem started approximately 12 months ago with 63,000 miles. The trunk deck lid has fallen on my head.

Pneumatic cylinders designed to hold trunk open failed causing trunk to close when in use endangering person using trunk

Yesterday, were it not for my wife's fast reflex, her head would have seriously smashed when a gust of wind slammed the propped-up trunk.

My wife, who is getting over breast cancer, has been hit in the head many times, as i have, by the 2001 ls 430 trunk lid coming down due to moderate winds and just putting groceries in the trunk.i said that at least three dealer service managers have told me that the shocks that are supposed to hold up the trunk are under engineered, and not substantial enough to hold up the trunk lid.this condition gets worse over time, but i did complain about it to sewell lexus of fort worth many years ago.it was never written up as i was told that the only thing that could be done was to replace those shocks with the exact same shocks.that was unsatisfactory to me at the time, it still is, and i was never told to call the lexus 800 number until kevin (service mgr. At lexus of el cajon, ca.) suggested that i at least try.this is the same problem explained in complaint number 10178801 by "jb".i hope someone at lexus has improved struts made for this trunk lid and notifies me to have them installed with a recall notice for all 2001 ls 430 owners.

This is an additional comment to my initial complaint #10181946 which is basically the same complaint as # 10178801.i have posted my complaint on edmunds chat room and got this response:"i have the same problem with my 2001 ls 430 trunk struts. I have called and visited 5 different auto parts stores and the struts are only available through the dealer. The trunk lid has fell on my head numerous times. It is indeed a safety issue and not of lexus quality. The trunk struts/shocks are labeled as "1fe28 w676". Let me know if you have found any aftermarket alternatives. I do not want to buy new ones from lexus if they are only going to fail again in a short time. If you are experiencing the same problem w/the trunk struts/shocks, i want to encourage others to respond to the message posted by "slexy1" (msg. #8044)or this message, to voice your concerns to your local lexus dealer, and finally to contact lexus by the 800 number for customer care. Maybe we can get some positive responses if we all complain together. Thanks! matthew manningrxstudentsbcglobal.net "please know this new information that i found out from my local lexus dealer. I basically found out from the dealer i bought the car at in 10/00 that the part number for those trunk struts was changed from ending in "30" to "31" sometime after 2001. Lexus keeps the reasons for these changes a secret even from their dealers, so i could not find out "why" for the change. But, i'm requesting that lexus corporate allow my dealer to install the "31" trunk struts, as i'm fairly sure that the new ones have been "beefed up".

Lexus 430ls lexus trunk strut failure.55000 miles on odometer. Trunk lid fell on head creating bump.

On my 2001 lexus ls 430 the trunk struts do not support the trunk very well at all. The trunk is difficult to open and closes on your head almost every single time.

Trunk struts on lexus ls430 2001 model fails resulting in trunk lid falling on hands, heads, and bodies.

I opened the trunk of my husband's lexus 430 2001,on may 14, 2007my child reached inside to retrieve his backpack and the lid of the trunk slammed shut.he was very badly bruised. Previous to this incident i reached into the open trunk to move luggage and lid slammed shut on my neck.i am still suffering from injuries. The trunk lid was very heavy and struts did not support it.purchasing parts today to have replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 lexus ls430.the contact stated that the trunk lid failed to remain open.he felt that the failure was due to the trunk struts wearing out.the dealer has not inspected the vehicle.the current mileage was 77,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.

Pneumatic trunk lid supports fail after a short period of time.

The contact owns a 2001 lexus ls430.while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle jerked from side to side.the vehicle spun to the left and struck the guard rail, in addition to the guard rail on the other side of the street.the contact was injured and a police report was filed.the vehicle was deemed as destroyed by the insurance company.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the passenger side front ball joint caused the failure.the current and failure mileages were 59,000.

This vehicle is equipped with an air suspension that failed, resulting in the vehicle leaning to one side.three times, the owner took his vehicle to the dealership where purchased and was denied repair.months later, the vehicle was repairedby another lexus dealership.mr

The trunk struts failed to support the trunk and slammed shut as i was retrieving groceries out of the trunk. It left a very nasty bump on the back of my head. It no longer supports the trunk lid weight at all. It is dangerous and i must always hold it open with one hand and the trunk is heavy. I have bumped my head and hands multiple times when the trunk comes down.

The bass of the speaker in the rear of the car is malfunctioning.i have heard from other owners of this year / make that this is an issue for them as well.specifically, the speaker needs to be replaced or repaired because of the wobbly sound it makes

Laser sensor is located, unprotected, in recess in front bumper of car.at some time during recent road trip an object, probably a stone, caused a crack in lens of cruise control module.this caused cruise control to malfunction by suddenly misreading location and distance of cars in front of my vehicle.no protective cover or lens replacement is provided to prevent this problem or mitigate expense of correcting the problem.

This is the second time that i have applied the brakes and the car accelerates rather than stopping.the first time was in july 2006 right after i had purchased the car.that time i accelerated into the back of a police car and did a lot of damage to the front of the car.i have driven over 120,000 miles and 9 years without this happening again.this time i was at a stop light and began to move when a construction worker jumped in front of my car to have me stop and the car accelerated across 4 lanes and stopped before i went up on the curb and hit a building.unfortunately, the construction worker's ankle was broken and now i am being sued.i had my mechanic check the problem last time and he could not find anything wrong.i checked to see if this car had been recalled last time and this time for this problem and it has not been.

Dt*: the contact stated while backing out of a parking space, the vehicle suddenly lurched backwards while brake pressure was applied.the engine roared loudly.the vehicle was placed in park and lurched forward 5 feet striking a concrete pillar.a bystander intervened and turned off the ignition.although there was a crash, the police were not contacted.the passenger sustained minor injuries after striking the dash.both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts.the vehicle was driven to a dealer to await inspection by a manufacturer representative.

This car has a "drive-by-wire" throttle control system in which the throttle is not directly connected to the engine but is digitized and sent to a computer for analysis prior to controlling the engine speed.the speed control computer analizes the throttle input over time and "learns" the drivers throttle control habits and adjusts the engine response to throttle input based on the long-term driving history of the driver.if the driver drives aggressively all of the time then the throttle response is good.however if the driver drives conservitively most of the time then the throttle response is poor.i normally drive conservatively and i have found on many occasions that this car does not respond in a timely manner in case of emergency accelleration.that is, when i drive conservatively and then need to accellerate quickly to avoid another vehicle, this car hesitates for several seconds before deciding to speed up, even when i stomp on the accellerator.i do not feel safe in this car.i believe that this is a serious safety flaw in the design of this car.i have reported this problem to my lexus dealer on every visit to the service department since i purchased the car new in 2000, yet they have failed to address the problem.i was told by the service department that lexus was aware of the issue as several customers have complained about the problem. On one occasion i was told that the engineers had an experimental firmware upgrade that they were testing with some customers.i have contacted lexus customer service, but they just referred me back to the dealership.

My finger was injured when the power window on the passenger side was raised by the driver. The finger bled and felling was lost on the top side of the finger up to the second joint for about a month. I performed a test and the window broke two out of three pencils in half. Concern is about young childrens fingers being seriously injured. The manufacturers representative points out that the power button is continuously activated it will override the automatic retraction function.

First, this complaint applies to both side view mirrors.in the sales brochure for this car on page 63, under "safety & security"the following appears: "power-adjustable, auto-folding outside mirrors with defoggers, puddle lamps and auto tilt-down in reverse".unfortunately, the function doesn't work too well!both outside rear-view mirrors are positioned and set into memory.when mirrors unfold (e.g., when starting car) or when they are supposed to return to their memory position (e.g., after shifting from reverse) they return to a position that is almost near their memory setting!!!this requires the driver to stop the vehicle, put gear selector in neutral, (memory function won't work while car is moving or unless gear selector in neutral or park position), and then press memory button to bring mirrors back to their set memory position.my dealer was first informed of this malfunction in november, 2001.and has been informed on no less than two subsequent occasions.i'm told by dealer that the factory is aware of the problem.i was also told that the factory knew of this problem as it has existed on another model.it certainly is an inconvenience to have to go through all the aforementioned procedures after backing out of a parking space in order to safely travel down the road.plus, i have a very nice feature (price being included in purchase price of car) which i can't use.safetywise, if i forget to readjust the mirror after backing up or starting the car, my rearward (side view) vision is compromised.
