When i purchased my vehicle from the lexus dealer it had an occasional thump, bump clunk when i was stopped at stop lights.sort like someone was trying to bump me forward.i have complained about this at every service appointment including warranty appointments.no one seems to know what it is.it has gotten much worse.i therefore have tried to do some internet research and appears that not only does lexus know what it is but they might have actually published a technical service bulletin on the problem.i am fearful that the vehicle is becoming unsafe and i believe with the number of complaints i found on the lexus sites that this is should be a recall issue not an issue that my dealer continually ignores.my lexus also in cold weather (low 30s) has a large growling noise when stopped and brakes applied.i think it is part of the aforementioned issue.i have had my vehicle aligned a few times.it has a sensation of pulling right.however it stays true, pretty much, on the road.i should not have this feeling in the steering play.lastly, i am constantly changing out the outside lights on the vehicle.headlights, turn indicators and rear brake lights.
Entire frame of the car is rusted to the point that almost nothing is holding the car together and we've been told it's not safe to drive.has been maintained on regular basis and has always been parked in garage at night and on most weekdays. Car shouldn't be rusted out when cared for meticulously (documentation available).
While accelerating the vehicle emitted a sulfur/rotten egg smell.the problem was due to the catalytic converter.*sc
The contact owns a 2004 lexus gx470. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing a recurring failure in which the front turn signal light bulbs stopped functioning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions in which the bulbs would be replaced. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 112,000. The vin was unavailable.
We have twins and have to use two car seats.child safety restraint latch system on the second row seat of a lexus gx470 behind the driver side of the vehicle is not positioned according to federal guidlines.one latch is in the middle of the bight of the seat and the other latch is in the middle seat just on the other side of the seat belt recepticles for the middle passenger and passenger behind the driver.when installing a child seat behind the driver side, the seat sits at an angle and the rear of the carseat closest to the driver seat is off the seat about 3 inches allowing it to bounce up and down.additionally, the seat can be moved, even when tightened with a mighty tight, more than an inch(which is the maximum allowed)because of the positioning of the latches being on an uneven surface.a child seat cannot be installed using the latch system behind the driver in a way to be signed off as safe by nhtsa certified technicians.this problem has been presented to lexus local dealership, regional representative, corporate supervisor, corporate executives.i have written documentation of all conversations with them.there were talks about them buying back the vehicle.the regional representative told us to go find two carseats that could be safely installed and lexus would by us two new ones.the technician at the store we went to is nhtsa certified and said there is not a way to safely install any car seat using the latch system on that side of the car as well.a nhtsa certified ms firefighter concurred that using the latch on the driver side was not safe. Lexus offered $2,000 toward the purchase of another lexus product.i have spoken with steven beretzky at nhtsa in detail about this situation.we were told that nothing could be done to change were the latches were placed.

There are multiple complaints on the internet available with this vehicle and the transmission, transfer case "actuator" replacement part # 36100-6d190, is cracking around 90,000 to 100,000 miles and leaking oil on streets and anywhre you park. The cause is from lexus service at the 100,000 mile tune up, in many cases, if a owner has never used their 4 wheel drive, and service engages 4 wheel drive during service and then cracking this defective part that has not been used in 10 years. That was my situation, where i dleivered a perfect vehicle to lexus of greenville sc for 100,000 tune up service, and the car was returned to me leaking. It was reported immediatly with no result to fix. $3500 part. I have had a few meetings with lexus corporate over the past 2 years too, case# 1706011926. When shifting at low speeds the consumer's 2004 lexus gx470 jerked.
Clunk and vibration and thump in transmission.
There is a vibration while driving from the driveshaft of my 2004 lexus gx470. Lexus is aware of the problem and states many of the 2004s have the same problem. They replaced parts on 12/7/04 and told me it did not fix the problem and lexus claims they are not able to fix all of these problems. They claim they are working on a solution to repair it but have not figured one out yet. I was on a lexus owners web site and many others have the same problem. Are they waiting for it to become a safety issue?!!! i paid nearly $50,000 for a vehicle and i am being told they don't have a solution to fix the vibrating when i drive on the highway? will they when one of us loses control of our vehicle??? help!!!
Driveshaft has a jerk feeling when stopping and accelerating. When stopped at light you get a jerk feeling, as thought someone from rear bumped into you. Had lexus look at the problem, and they adjustedsomething in the drive shaft. But it still hasnt corrected the problem. I understand that there is a new drive shaft that they can put in, but as of this date, they feel that the adjustment would correct this problem. I seems to have gotten worse. Now upon accelleration i get a jerk feeling.anyone haveing same problem/or rememedy please contact me. [email protected].
Driveshaft and brake/roto problems with lexus gx470. Drive shaft "thump" has occurred since i have owned the vehicle (march 2004). Dealer tried to fix it in august 2004 without success. Problem has gotten worse and i was told yesterday that after only 15,000 miles, i had excessive wear out of both front and rear brake pads and rotors.
My gx470 2004 has rust on frame, shocks and suspension.have been told that they will not make any repairs because they will cost more than vehicle.lexus should really consider these frames from dana ohio in the recalls as the others.over the years i have had the radiator, emergency brake and rims all rust out and replaced as well and the vehicle is not even in snow or beach areas. These vehicles also have the seat belt issue which makes the airbag light stay on.as nice and reliable these vehicles were i believe lexus should back their product!
Lexus is selling vehicles with bad brake actuators. I took it to them twice and which they say they don't know why i'm here the noise and why my brake pedal was rattling when i look on the lexus forums i see several people complaining about the brake actuators are going out on their vehicles some vehicles only have $34,000 on them. The dangerous part is that you get no warning lights or anything if it goes out and you're on the expressway you can not stop the vehicle at all, one person even blogged about how there's wentcompletely out on them luckily they were driving up in the driveway but the vehicle never stopped. Lexus is charging people anywhere from 2 to $4,000 to fix these when they know that several of their vehicles are having these problems while still new. I just took it to lexus again last week and the servicemen said it sounds like the actuator is going out if it is then that's going to be $4,000.while driving the vehicle i hear a lot of clicking up under the hood and you can feel the vibration all the way through thebrake pedal.

My husband was driving our newly purchased 2004 lexus 470gx to georgia when he encountered problems with driving under rainy weather conditions in north florida.my husband communicated the steering was very loose and the car was pulling.according to my husband, this happened two times and on the third incident the vehicle went out of control.my husband was not able to maintain control of the vehicle and it flipped approximately three times before ending up in the median on it's side.my husband is a very safe driver and was exercising much caution when driving.he's driven an suv (1997 toyota 4runner) for eight years.we purchased the vehicle on 12/23/06 and i am concerned that something was wrong with the vehicle.we've driven in worse weather conditions and never had anything remotely wrong happen...i'm not sure what could have caused this and seek out some help and advice.please help.
I have my vehicle in to 3 different lexus dealership for a total 6 times.i have made the same complaint that the 2004 lexus gx 470 moves (steering wheel) with the crown in the road dramatically.the company and the dealer are no longer acknowledging the problem.the problems have been occuring since the day i took delivery and you never actually feel like you have control over the suv.the steering wheel is very loose and you are consistenly moving it back and forth to keep the car centered. Very dangerous i have spoken the lexus customer service over 20 times and they are non-responsive to my situation.
We first noticed what looked like tiny bubbles under the dash and the raised areas started to show tiny splits and since then has continued to bubble, split and crack. There are significant areas of splitting around the outline of the gauges, across the top of the dash, down the sides and they continue to grow in size and into other areas.in 2010 wrote your headquartersand after a few months received a call from one of your representatives.he asked several questions and i told him the car had been garaged since we bought it in 2006 from a lexus dealer in clearwater.he gave me the usual question and answer investigation and said he could do nothing.finally, he said since i had not had every oil change and repair done at a lexus dealer and the warranty had expired i was not entitled to anything and i should have extended the warranty. I felt the lexus i owned should not have a dash that was deteriorating after this short period of ownership and it had to be a defect. Your representative offered for lexus to pay for one-half the cost of the dash replacement, but i felt that the dash was defective and there was no reason for me to pay to have any part of the replacement.i feel the only reason the dash could be splitting is the material it was formed with or whatever process was used.i realize as of this year the car is ten years old, but this has been on ongoing problem not a new one and it has not been resolved. I have had few problems with the lexus and only in the last few years has it needed any extensive repairs.after checking prices at different dealerships i did use the lexus dealership, because they were very close in price to the other estimates that i had gotten and since their repairmen were trained and updated on lexus repairs i respected and appreciated their knowledge and experience.

Auto:lexus 2004 gx470 suvpart:driver's left foot rest.problem:the part in question became un-bolted to the vehicle inside cabin driver's side floor and became wedged under the brake pedal during vehicle operation. Driver (my wife) applied brake approaching stop sign only to find brake pedal stuck.frantic repeated brake pedal application by her finally dislodged foot rest from under brake pedal and the vehicle just barely stopped prior to entering intersection.dealership has agreed to repair part.
Pearl white paint is peeling off like paper on my 2004 gx 470 what is going on with lexus paint i have owned 3 lexuscars never had this to happen to the other cars needs help in sanford nc

Vehicle failed inspection due to rust hole in frame and transmission support. The mechanic said that the rest of the frame is in good condition which leads me to believe that it must be a defect with materials used for the frame, i would expect same type of damage to the rest of the frame. The car was well maintained, and itis in great condition otherwise, after close to 103,000 miles. This may be related to the toyota frame rust issues that were reported since, to my knowledge the gx shares the same frame as other toyota suvs/trucks. Lexus refused to help w/ the repair etc. And they deemed the vehicle unsafe to drive, i have to tow it out of their dealership. Attached, my shop review, lexus review and pictures from my mechanic. I am asking lexus for the pictures they took while the car was in shop.
Dt*:the contact stated while attempting to apply brake pressure at 60 mph the vehicle pulled to the right and left and became uncontrollable.the dealer determined there was a design defect involving the suspension.the manufacturer was alerted.
While travelingat a low speed the consumer noticed that thevehicle was vibrating. Once the vehicle reached speeds over 60 mph vibration increased.the dealership serviced the vehicle four times but could not duplicate the problem. Please provide any additional information.

Cracked dashboard with shiny spots that give glare when driving in the sun.this is an issue whenever the car is in motion on any surface (street, highway, turning, etc). We received zld warranty enhancement notification and got on local dealership (grapevine, texas) "will call" list over a year ago. Dealership continues to say they will call when part is available. Online it appears the only people who have had dashes replaced are those who have lexus blogs, etc.

My lexus gx 470 has accelerated uncontrollably since jan7, 2010 (first occurrence) and last occurrencemarch 12, 2010 . It generally occurs at light throttle from a stop and turning left at intersections and is compounded by a loss of electronic stability control also on wet pavement. Thus far, i have been able to react quickly enough to keep speeds under 60 mph. My wife and daughter have not been so fortunate and will not drive in and /or be a passenger in the vehicle.i'm handicapped and had a service dog who was killed in one of the crashes.if a neck can be broken then we are dealing with a very dangerous situation.i am a former toyota executive engineer/ chief engineer for 8 years and have a huge amount of knowledge in this subject , such as program retention of ecm and denso throttle. Toyota knew of these electronic problems beginning in 2002how many deaths in a lexus gx 470 , before a recall occurs?????????
Sudden acceleration problem occurred when a 2004 gx-470 decelerated from 30 mph to approximately 2 mph to turn left into a driveway when the vehicle accelerated full throttle and collided with a parked car in the driveway. There were two passengers in the vehicle, one in the front next to the driver the second an infant in a car seat in the back center position of the vehicle. The sudden acceleration was coincident as the driver initiated the turn into the driveway, the front car tires where fully turned to the left and the passenger in the front seat opened the front left car door to exit the vehicle before it was fully stopped. The sudden acceleration pushed the passenger exiting the vehicle back into his seat and he never was able to exit the vehicle. It should be noted that this problem occurred in southern california and there were no additional mats in the vehicle other than the original lexus car mats. In addition a possible related symptom occurred twice over the four year history of the vehicle. The vehicle has been sent back to lexus in which it was reported that when the vehicle was in palm springs and the temperature was over 110 degrees that there were acceleration problems with the vehicle. Lexus returned the vehicle indicating that they could not repeat the problem but did not investigate the problem under the heat conditions. Even after the accident lexus refuses to test the vehicle under the heat conditions. The day of the accident the temperature was about 75 degrees. The passenger in the front seat is an electronic engineering that runs a company that is know in the industry as resolving intermittent problems in the most complex systems of department of defense (dod) (e.g. F-14, ea-6b). His observation during the accident is that there was extremely low probability that the driver could of moved their foot from brake that was used to decelerate the vehicle to the point when the sudden acceleration started.
