Lexus issue to abc news on january 29, 2010. I owned a lexus gs not too long ago that had a sudden acceleration problem. Lexus did everything to correct the problem....but they just had no fix for it. It was not a petal problem.....it was in the electronic acceleration control unit. How did i know this.....after i got rid of the car i met a technician that had worked for sterling mccall lexus in houston tx. He told me that the problem was in the control unit and main computer and that lexus never was able address the problem. I had the computer replaced by the dealer. That didn't work either. I guarantee that the lexus/toyota issue is not a gas petal issue......it is in that electronic acceleration module. Their fix won't work and there will still be wrecks, injuries and deaths after every recalled unit is fixed. If you would like to reply please do so at [email protected] do have conversations and letters sent to the nhtsa and i actually had them send me copies of all their complaints on my model. There were plenty of complaints about sudden acceleration. I could never convince the nhtsa to invoke an investigation, but i was unable to get their interest..oh.....by the way i still drive a lexus....a lx470. Their big utility vehicles have a totally different wiring harness....different computer....and different acceleration module. It has been a wonderful vehicle although rather pricey. I do keep my cars for quite a while though.

While car was parked in the garage it was trying to start up on it's own with no keys.the dash lights were blinking and the car was making a loud cranking, banging noise and we could smell the smoke.after lifting up the hood we could see the smoke coming from the engine and it was still trying to crank up. Smoke begin to fill the garage and it was getting worse.we were finally able to put out the fire with the extinguisher and were able to remove the battery to get the car to stop trying to start up. What would cause such a dangerous thing to happen.car is still in the garage at this time not sure what to do with it because i am not sure of the engine damage the fire caused.is this some kind of electrical malfunction?

Vehicle accelerated without pressing the gas pedal.took vehicle to dealer who stated that stabilizer bar was defective. Consumer stated that he hit five cars over a distance of about 1/2 mile before coming to a stop.surging caused by electromagnetic wave, brake and airbag problems, arising from the wave and the vehicle's computer.

I have lexus gs300.the car were stalled in the middle of the highway.i towed the car to lexus.they told me it is not mechanical problem.one of the electronic sensor were malfunction.it seems the lexus sense is not reliable and caused the car to stall in the middle of the highway.

The contact owns a 2000 lexus gs300. While driving approximately 15 mph, a fire started in the engine compartment. The fire was extinguished by a passersby with a fire extinguisher. The police and fire departments were not notified. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

At 60,000 miles, engine/oil light came on; dealer says that engne needs replaced due to oil "sludge" @ cost of $15,000 to repair.lexus/toyota refuses to pay even though it is still under warranty bcause i cannot supply maintenance records.toyota has extended warranty on these engines to 8-years bu t will not honor the warranty.i still owe $20,000 on this $45,000 automobile.

While accelerating from a stop vehicle first hesitated then jerked forward before accelerating. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *mr

Regarding my 2000 gs 300 lexus. Brake, abs, vsc, vsc off lights along with loud alarm displayed. Also has had an annoying on and off chirping noise before this alarm sounded. The breaks appear to be working without any problems. The chirping noise is heard on the drivers side and doesn't seem to matter whether car is moving or driving and sometimes is not heard at all and the car drives fine without any mechanical problems. But when the brake light came on it was accompanied with a shrill alarm that sounded for about 10 minutes and went off. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and he said it was the hydraulic brake pump and would cost $3700 to fix. This is a lot of money and i am afraid the brakes will go out and afraid to drive it since my brakes may suddenly go out.

While driving, ran over a pot hole filled with water and the abs light came on which ultimately affected the braking system.took to toyota and they said it needed the system replaced which would cost over 3500 dollars.at this time, we are still working on this matter!!!!!it happened nov. 2015

In late 2000 my fiance` and i purchased a brand new lexus from david mcdermott lexus in east haven ct. The car ran flawlessly for several years with no major issues. Over the last year or so the dash lights come on and the car makes a loud beeping sound. I brought the car back to the dealer who then informed me that the car has a defective brake master cylinder and that it would cost $2000 dollars to repair. In doing some research online i have found out that this a common problem with 98-02 gs300 models the very same car i own. I then made a call to lexus customer service to inquire as to why their almost $50k car has a defective brake master cylinder especially since the car only has 80,000 mile and this is not even a moving part. Lexus promised to get back to me within 2 business day to see what if anything they could do for me. I was informed on 5/13 that they respectfully decline to help me as the vehicle is out of warranty. Regardless of the fact that lexus does not value their customer's from their lack of action i strongly believe that this defect on a large number of these car demands an investigation. My certified mechanic himself a master certified lexus technician also informed me that if this system fails it will lead to a serious accident as the entire braking and vehicle dynamic system is combined on this one unit. At this time i am no longer driving the car for fear of endangering the lives of my family and friends. I will park the vehicle until such time when i can afford to repair. I am not writing this complaint out of spite or malice i would just like other consumers who own this particular year and modelcar to be aware of the potential danger inherent in this car. I would kindly appreciate you looking into this matter for me so as to avoid any unnecessary accidents or deaths from this vehicle.sincerelyconcerned consumer

While making a turn from a stop the vehicle suddenly accelerated.the consumer applied the brakes but the vehicle had extended stopping distance. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Please provide more information.

While traveling on a very busy street consumer appliedbrakes, andpedal went to the floor.please provide any further information.

The vehicles brake pads were at 8% but the brakes were making a grinding noise.the dealership indicated that thiswas caused by a brake/rotor failure.*nlm

Vehicle purchased used from jm lexus with 9,800 miles.within the first 4 months of ownership the vehicle was taken to the dealership 5 times to rectify a front end vibration at highway speeds.during the five visits the vehicle had the tires rebalanced, front brake rotors resurfaced, alignment, new tires installed, realignment, recalibration of the steering rack, tires removed and rebalanced and new brake rotors installed.

The lower ball joint is making squeaking noises. This is a common issue faced by owners of lexus gs300 manufactured between 1998-2002. There might be a manufacturing defect or improper lubrication causing the ball joint to break. There are several life threatening incidents that have taken place so far:http://www.chrisandnat.com/projects/lexusballjoint/balljoint.htmhttp://www.clublexus.com/forums/suspension-and-brakes/340101-lower-ball-joint-failed-today-with-pics-9.htmlhttp://www.clublexus.com/forums/suspension-and-brakes/340101-lower-ball-joint-failed-today-with-pics-8.htmlhttp://www.clublexus.com/forums/suspension-and-brakes/340101-lower-ball-joint-failed-today-with-pics-7.htmlhttp://www.clublexus.com/forums/suspension-and-brakes/340101-lower-ball-joint-failed-today-with-pics.htmli request nhtsa look into this and request lexus to replace all ball joints for all lexus gs 300 that have similar issues.

Unintended acceleration without pressing accelerator. Has occurred previously.car is a 2000 lexus gs 300 with 107,000 miles.floor mats were not the cause.put car in neutral, it raced to red line and went back to idle.

I was turning onto the freeway (uphill onramp) i stepped on the gas going about 20 miles an hr when suddenly my car wouldn't stop. Accelerated so quickly. At first i thought my foot was touching the gas accidently so i moved and applied the brake which was no help, after i took my foot off the brake it accelerated faster i was terrified. I slammed on the brakes with both my feet and the car slowed enough that i was able to turn it off. Even while i applied the brakes the car was still trying to pull forward as i turned it off the steering wheel locked. This was the worst experience i have ever had afraid to drive it i had it towed to the nearest gas station to have it checked. I'm hoping that they will find the problem because i don't want this to ever happen again. Thankfully it was late at night and the freeway wasn't that crowded. I have a 2000 lexus gs300.

The contact owns a 2000 lexus gs300. While driving at 5 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated without warning. In order to stop the acceleration the contact had to shift the vehicle into park. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the failure could not be reproduced. The current and failure mileages were approximately 98,000. Twice in the same day our 2000 lexus gs300 experienced acceleration problems similar to those now involved in the international investigation of toyota products. The acceleration began as the vehicle was stopped. I had to push the brake with great force to keep the vehicle from moving forward. When i placed the car in neutral, the revving of the engine stopped. The floor mat on the driver's side had not been moved and was not interfering with the gas pedal. We called a mechanic we use for the car after the incident to find out whether anything similar had been reported or if lexus had issued a recall. When we learned that our model vehicle was not indicated as having a problem, we did not do anything further about the problem. We've not had the problem since then. However, i thought it best to report the problem after hearing about very similar issues in other models of toyotas and lexuses. I'm wondering if the problem extends further than the models and model years now being recalled?

While driving my lexus gs 300, the vehicle stopped accelerating! the vehicle was driving normally and all of sudden it stalled out (engine still running) but no acceleration at all, almost causing me to get hit by another vehicle. The vehicles vsc and the engine light came on after this happened.. I pushed the gas pedal all the way to the floor board and nothing happened, after a minute or so,it begin to accelerate but only about 20-30 mph. After constantly holding the pedal to the floorboard, the car begin to accelerate normally again for a few miles. It does this continuously while driving now. At times i have had to pull off the road and let the vehicle sit for awhile and then it will return to functioning normally. The codes that the mechanic pulled up from the engine and vsc lights were for the throttle body sensor to be changed. This was done and the car droveperfect for about 15 miles, no problems, no engine light etc... Then out of nowhere, everything started to happen again without warning, no acceleration and the vsc and engine lights came back on. I have looked on the internet to see if other consumers have experienced this same problem and they have and the outcome was basically the same results, some sensor (not definite) with a return to the initial problem. The code does not pull up the actual problem causing consumers to constantly have different sensors replaced, throttle body, etc.i have also read where a recall was on 1998 vehicles for this problem and i truly believe that this problem was not fully "fixed." some consumers have battled with lexus to include their later model vehiclesin the recall to be fixed because it is the very same problem!!! after reading other consumer complaints and reviewing the previous recall, i know that this is a very serious default of the manufacturer which is undoubtedly putting consumers in terribly dangerous situations. These incidents happen with no warning! your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Bought a 2000 certified pre-owned in 2005 from lexus dealer.in 2007 on a residential street, a driver was driving very slow and started to pull over. I quickly went around her to pass, at about 35 mph, but after releasing the gas pedal, car sped up instead. Tried to slow down with the brakes, but it sped up more. Then slammed the brake pedal with both feet and put it on park to avoid hitting stopped cars ahead.it stopped in "park" but was still revving high.i got out of the vehicle and it was still revving over 6 rpm! i bent under the dash and tried to loosen the gas pedal with my hand thinking it was stuck but it wouldn't stop revving so i turned the engine off. Before turning engine on again, i made sure no cars were ahead of me and prepared to put it into neutral/park immediately this time. Didn't happen again. Took it to lexus (see invoice). They couldn't reproduce problem; claimed pedal got stuck in rubber floor mat. I told them i pulled gas pedal with my hand while the car was in park and revving on its own, and pedal was not stuck mat. In 2009 (now with 117k miles) on 60 mph highway when my daughter drove it and floored the pedal to pass someone. After releasing pedal, it accelerated on its own to 95 mph. Fortunately her lane was empty as she tried to slow down with the brakes, but this didn't work. Then she stomped on gas pedal to disengage it.after a minute the acceleration stopped.i called dealer to report the problem. They said the gs300 was not noted for this and didn't have recall.i still have car but now never floor the pedal and i'm on guard to put it in neutral.i cannot get rid of it because i can't sell it knowing this problem, and i cannot afford another car.

Consumer stated that he hit five cars over a distance of about 1/2 mile before coming to a stop.surging caused by electromagnetic wave, brake and airbag problems, arising from the wave and the vehicle's computer.

While driving vehicle started to surge forward out of control and struck several other vehicles. Dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Vehicle started to accelerate while consumer was in traffic at a constant speed or 25-30 mph. Contacted dealer, and the dealer could not duplicate the problem, this problem occurs at least one a week. *yd

Vehicle accelerated at slow speeds of25 mph , and engine revved. This has happened 4 times. Took vehicle to dealer who could not remedy situation.

While driving at 35 mph vehicle suddenly accelerated. Dealer notified.

Under heavy acceleration to merge into traffic the accelerator stuck in the wide open position once pressure had been removed from the pedal.upon examination, there were no physical obstructions (ie, floor-mat, loose objects) which would cause the pedal to jam in this position.high revving and uncommanded acceleration persisted for several seconds until the brake pedal was depressed heavily to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front.

While driving, ran over a pot hole filled with water and the abs light came on which ultimately affected the braking system.took to toyota and they said it needed the system replaced which would cost over 3500 dollars.at this time, we are still working on this matter!!!!!it happened nov. 2015
