I had a total loss car crash , a lexus es 300 on my way to college , my neck and back were affected and not even one airbag opened to protect the passengers , that thank god i was the only one , that tragic day. I bought that car , not for luxury but for the safety and security it offered and that in my case didn't work. My car has a defect and a very serious one. How many other lexus might have the same defect? do someone will have to die to solve this.

2003 es 300 - air bag sensor issues:this issue is ongoing as of nov 2011 and started back in 2005.why doesn't lexus offer a way for consumers to fix error codes on their own vehicles?i know what my error code is - b1186 - though, lexus wouldn't tell me this. I had to find out by doing my own diagnostic testing.depending on who i spoke with, they told me different things from needing a driver sensor replaced, to the passenger sensor, to the center sensor, to the driver airbag, to needing all of it replaced.each person i spoke with was extremely reluctant to provide me with any information about the problem and said that i needed to bring the vehicle back for them to fix. The first time i took it in, they said it would cost about $700 (2008). Last month, they said it could be anywhere from $1500-$3500.i have done my share of research, reading all i can online, including consumer forums. I have read 100s of complaints about airbags - sensor issues, lack of deployment, check light on, etc.. It appears that lexus has had issues with airbags for years.yet, there has not been any recalls or even class action lawsuits.i can't sell it with the light on and its not worth putting that much money into it.but, lexus won't offer me another solution except to fork over all my savings.
While driving 4 mph and depressing the brakes brake pedal pulsated, causingextended stopping distance, which resulted in vehicle hitting an embankment head on. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership for inspection.
While driving 40 mph the vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. The dual airbags did not deploy. The driver sustained head injuries from hitting his head on the steering wheel. Please provide additional information.
When pulling into a parking spot driver depressed the brake pedal and vehicle suddenly accelerated.vehicle went over the curb, and hit a light pole. Front left side of the vehicle was damaged.upon impact, front air bags did not deploy. Driver sustainedminor bruises.*la
I was in a auto accident and was hit on the left front of my 2003 lexus and the air curtain did not activate. I hit my head on the drivers door window. Damage was estimated over $3000.00 on my vehicle. I tried to get answers from the dealer but they did not know where the sensor was located and why it did not deploy.
Re: 2003 lexus es300. The car began to stall when i stopped the vehicle. My mechanic conducted computer tests. No errors registered. Mechanic stated he thought problem was with the electronic control system. This occurred before the media blitz of toyota's electronics. Mechanic took some of the electronic control system apart cleaning the parts with an airhose. Consequently the stalling stopped. I have had no problems since this occurrence and "repair."

Our 2003 lexus es 300 engine area caught in fire when my wife parked inthe parking lot. According to the witness, parking lot security, he saw the smoke came out from the engine area for about a minute and then fire. He said it looks like something is short in the electrical/engine and caught the fire. When the fire department arrived to put out the fire which damaged and burned half of the car, a lead fire man commented that he has seen several incidents that the lexus sedans were suddenly caught in fire while parking.with this unfortunate tragedy occurred to our lexus car, we are very concerned with the safety for all lexus sedan especially es 300 driving by consumers out there. Fortunately, my wife left the car few minutes before the car caught in fire, but mentally she was still in shock with it. We did contact lexus to file a complain, and they said an adjuster will contact us next 10 days to review and discuss the case. It's more than 3 weeks and we still have not heard back from lexus.of course, our lexus es 300 is a total loss now, but we request nhtsa investigating and looking into this case for the safety of consumers and demand lexus to investigate and answer us and the public the cause for a sudden caught in fire.thank you!
While shifting gears vehicle jerked and hesitated to move. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanicdetermined that the computer needed to be reset, and he reset it.however, the problem reoccured, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. Currently, the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
While sitting at an intersection vehicle jerked uncontrollably. Consumer was able to control the vehicle, and droveit to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that computer recalibrated (emc) engine and transmission to the computer.consumer informed the mechanic that the problem still occurred and had not been resolved.
The contact owns a 2003 lexus es300. While driving at an unknown speed, smoke was noticed coming from the engine compartment. The contact managed to pull the vehicle over as it was stalling. The contact exited the vehicle, lifted the hood, and noticed flames coming from the battery. The contact called the fire department who extinguished the fire. The contact mentioned that the fire department cut the battery cord and informed the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 156,000.
Upon stopping, and whenconsumer removed foot from the gas pedal vehicle surged forward before the brake pedal was depressed. This occurred numerous times. Once, resulting inconsumer's vehicle crashing into a concrete pole while pulling into a parking lot.also, starting at 5000 milesbattery had to be replaced 3 times because it died.this was due to an electrical short. *la
Dt:consumer states that at night there was a time delay in the headlights when being shut off.if the trunk was propped open only 1/8 of an inch the lights stayed on until the battery iwasdead.took vehicle to the dealership andthey unhooked the time delay. The battery died twice because of this only in the nighttime.
Ignition key can be removed when in neutral and engine is off, permitting car to roll.

After the vehicle has been running from a light or stop there is hesitation when trying to accelerate. I have taken the vehicle to the lexus dealer in owings mills,md.several times.the first instance they said could not get the vehicle to repeat it. I went back complaining for the second time a was told that it could be fuel injectors clogged followed by another list of potential service items for about $1000+ expense which we deniedit since we have always maintained our car good & alwaysuse 93or 89 octane gas with maintenance service as recommended. This is my wife's car and i am always worried about a potential accident with this car.lately this hesitation frequency has increased from what we hear is that we are not alone and seems to be an ongoing problems.

Sir/madam,i am trying to help my friends (xxxx) and (xxxxx), long time residents of huntington beach and a very sweet couple.peggy was driving her husband to a doctor's appointment and due to a fault in the engine (there is a recall and they were not informed), the engine caught on fire. If it hadn't been for the driver behind them who ran to them and got them quickly out of the car and walked them to safety, the outcome would have been very bleak. They are an elderly couple and the husband, (xxxxx), has great difficulty walking and the car burned very quickly. They, thank god, made it to safety in time only to watch their car burn.they informed toyota and since they are on fixed income asked toyota for help with the purchase of another used reliable car (the lexus they were driving was 15 years old but in good condition and more than enough car for their trips to local stores or doctor appointments. Surprisingly, toyota only responded with one letter from customer service. (xxxx)'s follow up calls and letters to customer service, eco mark templin were never acknowledged or answered.please help this couple believe in humanity again. Toyota is a reputable company and to have something like this happen without so much as a phone call from the company is surprising to all that know of this case. I am attaching all the evidence: pictures, copies of letters for your reference. Please provide case number.thank you so much for your help.(xxxxx) for (xxxxx)parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
We have experienced on several occassions that vehicle hesitates when trying to accelerate at stop sign or when initialy in start to drive at about 20-30 miles per hour at times for few seconds & at times it rattles 3-4 times. This car was purchased as certified pre-owned from lexus dealer in excellent condition in 2006 that came with extended warranty upto 75000 miles but this problem started with slight & smooth jerk about 3 years back, took it to dealer after noticed for few times to diagnosis. At first instance they could not feel it since it was not consistent but when again complained for second time was told that it could be fuel injectors cloged followed by other list of potential service items we were talking about $1000+ expense which we denied it since we have always maintained our car good & always use 93 or 89 octaine gas with maintenance service as recommended. This one is my wife's vehicle & used to commute to work mostly on express way. We do have couple other issues with this car but not as important. Now, lately this hesitation frequency have increased & from what i hear is that we are not alone and this seems to be an ongoing issue with some other es300 owners as well.
Vehicle hesitated from a standing start position. The rpms went up but the vehicle did not move until it got into another gear.it will drive for a while and thenvehicle will stop. Consumerdid not feel safe. The technicians claim that the cable from the gas peddle to the engine was removed and replaced by a computer in the 2003 models.on the highway, if the vehicle was slowed down, a hesitation would be present while pressing on the gas peddle to resume speed.the engine light would come on along with the hesitation, also when the engine light would come on the vehicle would lose power along with blue smoke blowing out of the exhaust, and the rear seat contained a flaw. *sc
2003 es 300 - transmission issues: i have been experiencing hesitation upon acceleration almost every time, along with hard shifting 50% of the time. The acceleration hesitation can be scary if i'm trying to enter the highway, or turning left.the hard shifting feels like i got hit from behind.both problems have been going ongoing for years and lexus dealer has never been any help.i read many of the online forums and found that both of these problems are very common as are their results for getting these issues fixed - not much luck from the dealer - "it works as it is designed".really? lexus needs to stand behind their product.i can't believe how many complaints i have read (100s) and their hasn't been a recall.how does a consumer go about pushing for a recall, or class action or will the lemon law work?
There is a delay after sitting at a stop light and then at take off.the dealer could duplicate the problem and the manufacturer and dealer states that it is the new design.the problem would also occur when making a left turn, merging into traffic, entrance ramps, intersections and parking spots. *sc
Vehicle lurches forward when brakes are applied.*mrthis caused consumer to hit a sign.dealership checked brake system and found no codes of defect.also, check engine light was on due to a misfire on the cylinder.*la
On march 26, 2010 my husband and i were stopped at a traffic signal, (with my foot on the brake as you would expect), when the car suddenly accelerated at full throttle.in the brief but terrifying moments that the car was out of control i unfortunately collided with another vehicle as i threw the gear selector into neutral.
The vehicle had problems picking up speed, when the accelerator was pressed the vehicle did not respond, it sounded as though something was ticking inside the vehicle. The consumer contacted the lexus manufacture and was told they were aware of the problem which was called" the hazard computer module control" but did not know how to repair it.
Intermittently when pulling from a stop or turning a corner from a stop, the vehicle would hesitate for several seconds before accelerating.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that the hesitation was normal.this hesitation has happened more than three times since ownership of the vehicle.the manufacturer is aware of the problem. *ph
There is a pronounced hesitation when the accelerator is floored. This lack of responsiveness leaves the vehicle and the driver exposed to accident and injury. Lexus had offered "repair" for this, but it does not work on all types of models. They now state that the auto is working as designed.*la
While driving at highway speed the vehicle jerks and drags, contacted the dealer they said that lexus was doing some sort of computer program update that relates to her vehicle. Please add any additional information. Mr

Strong sulfur smell inside car when stopping after brisk acceleration. A/c innormal setting. Lexus aware of this problem and there is even a service bulletinon sulfur complain smell. Odor is so strong that sometimes people get nauseated.i would have never bought this car have the dealer make me aware of this problem and they knew about this defect before i took delivery of car.need nhtsa help since there are many lexus owners complainingabout sulfursmell and lexus is ignoring us - i guess they have a major problem and do not know how to fix or correct problem.they even told me to use only amoco premium since they claim ithas the lowest sulfur content. Also, if the sulfur smell is getting insidethe car how about the carbon monoxide which is also getting out of the exhaust.all these fumes are being sucked in by the a/c system and i'm sure that in thelong run somebody will get sick. - we, lexus owners need our government toinvestigate this issue since lexus is trying to ignore these problem for obviousreasons.thank you.
2003 lexus es 300 with brake failure. Consumer states that the brake failure had occurred a few weeks after having the front and rear brakes replaced. Dealer states that the vehicle was tested and no defect was found.while backing out of the carport, which required the consumer to have his foot on the brake, the vehicle while in reverse began moving backward slowly and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. The consumer turned off the ignition, but did hit a tree, which cause a slight dent to the trunk door.the explanation given to the consumer was that the floor mat may have slid under the brake pedal and over the gas pedal.
Dt:consumer states that at night there was a time delay in the headlights when being shut off.if the trunk was propped open only 1/8 of an inch the lights stayed on until the battery iwasdead.took vehicle to the dealership andthey unhooked the time delay. Problems with vehicle's turn signals.*mr the consumer wanted the dealership to increase the sound of the turning signals when activated, and the signals turning off once the turn was completed. The dealership stated there was nothing they could do about the turn signals. *ph
There is a pronounced hesitation when the accelerator is floored. This has been there since i leased the car and i do not know if it is due to a transmission lapse or throttle problem. I have had a number of near accidents when i pulled out to pass and there was no acceleration. Lexus has acknowledged this problem and offered a fix, but it did not solve the problem. They now say that the car is performing as designed.
On june 12 my wife was entering a parking spot with her foot on the brake pedal when the 2003 lexus es 300 suddenly with a roar surged forward jumped a parking bumper and a high sidewalk curb went forward about 6 feet and hit a concrete and steel girder stair case. The crash did over 5000.00 dollars damage to the car and over 5000.00 dollars tothe stairs.my wife was wearing her seat belt and had a sore collar bone.
My wife was driving slowly in traffic when there was a small surge in engine rpms, she lifted her foot off the gas pedal and the car return to normal.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)[xxx]i own a 2003 lexus es 300. The car has been a great car but the engine has intermittently surged. I have never been able to duplicate the problem but it has happened about 20-30 times to me and has happened a couple times to my girlfriend when she has borrowed my car. It's like the engine will rev up for just a second or 2 and then rev down. The car will lurch forward during the rev up. I thought you would want to know. My address is below in case you need to reach me.[xxx]
Sudden acceleration- delivering food for someones funeral.
The contact owns a 2003 lexus es300.the contact stated that she was unable to open the driver's side door from outside or inside the vehicle.the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that the lock on the door froze and needed to be replaced.the vehicle has not been repaired.the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not under any recall and they were not liable for the repairs.the current mileage was 85,602 and failure mileage was 85,402.
I purchased my vehicle from carmax about 2.5 months ago with an extended warranty.after driving my vehicle daily back and forth to work, i noticed the hesitation while coming to complete stop or a traffic light.the rpm would increase while the transmission would hesitate when i pushed the accelerator between the speeds of 10 - 35 mph.at first sign, it appeared the transmission was defected, so i decided to take it to carmax service center.two days later i received my 2003 lexus es300 with a clean slate (the service technicians indicated the transmission did not indicated wear) and i was told to bring it back if i still had the same problem.i am taking my vehicle to the service center with more information tomorrow.lexus/toyota needs to either recall these vehicles to fix this issue or they will have a major lawsuits from a lot of people with a class action suite.this is a very dangerous situation and needs to be address from lexus/toyota representatives to keep toyota/lexus in good standings.after reading other complaints, i am really nervous about driving my vehicle and i just purchased it.
The transmission in this car is unpredictable.it jerks, jumps and on occasion lurches ahead.it will hesitate when starting from stand still or when moving ahead at very low speeds. I have repeatedly taken it to the dealer.they have done 2 computer down loads of a supposed fix. The first lasted a day. I've been told to use only premium fuel, as this would help.i've used premium since that time with little change in the cars perfomance.my wife does not want to drive the car because of a near t-bone in a cross pattern traffic. I've had 4 similar experinces.this probem became apparent at about 1000 to 1200 miles and exits tody at about 4000 miles. All of these querky problems exist below 40 miles per hour.if you drive very aggressively (stomp on the accelerator)they aren't evident...to some exte the same is true if you barely depress the accelerator when starting to move.
After starting the vehicle, the consumer pressedon the accelerator pedal and the vehicle hesitatedbeforemoving.the cause was not determined.*scc
I purchased a used 2003 lexus es30from used car dealer. After a couple days of driving it i noticed it was shifting gears innormally. It would surge up to 4000rmp before shifting to 2nd gear and at one point wasn't moving while i hit the gas the acceleration very fast out of nowhere. My mother also had this same year make and model vehicle a few years back and it had the same problem before the transmission went out. I did some research online and found many other lexus customers experienced the same problem. I found a web site that claimed that there was a tsb put out for this vehicle and that the lexus/toyota dealerships would fix this problem with an upgrade. I was wondering if this upgrade is still available and if my vehicle would qualify? and if so how would i go about this process.

I was driving slowly, less than 10 mph, approaching a red light behind another vehicle. Suddenly, my car accelerated forward and could not be stopped by braking. I collided with the rear end of the car in front of me. There were no injuries, but both cars had significant damage.

While shifting the transmission had a ten minute delay before responding, and the transmission jerked uncontrollably. Driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer. Mechanic determined that the vehicle was operating as designed.
The new 5 speed transmission on my '03 lexus seems a little strange. If i drive about 35 mph and then slow down to about 5 mph and than try to accelerate there is a hesitation. It's as if the transmission can not decide on what gear to go into. When it finally does there's a slight lurch forward. This situation is very dangerous when trying to pass another vehicle. *nlm
There is a dangerous and unpredictable tendency for the vehicle engine/transmission combination to accelerate suddenly and unexpectedly.this is an intermittent problem which makes it especially unnerving.it is most noticeable at speeds below 40 mph, when first slowing, followed by acceleration.it appears to be exacerbate by uncertain transmission "hunting" for proper gear/engine speed combinations.the sudden acceleration causes a rapid and jerky throttle response to mild accelerator pedal input.i have taken the car to the dealer on at least two occasions for this issue.the first time, the dealer reprogrammed the transmission.the second time, the technician tested the vehicle and note "no problem found".at current mileage of 32,000, the problem seems to be worsening.this is a dangerous condition that, if left undressed, is likely to be the cause of an accident, serious injury or much worse.
The transmission of the lexus 2003 es300 is subject to major hesitation, particularly in crowded intersections and with lack of acceleration.very noticeable when traveling about 27 mph, and then needing to move, there is major delay in the signal telling the engine, and transmission to work together, and move the car. This vehicle is new with about 1000 miles.it cannot make up its mind to upshift or downshift and this delay will mean a major crash someday.around 40 mph it wants to upshift to the 5th gear, and just below that hunts to go back to 4th.the mfg. Says, as he did for the 2002 models, that a software fix is being prepared.they stated the problem from the 2002 was fixed.evidently that is not the case.they now tell me that a fix is coming year end.how many accidents will occur by then?dealer says that the car will learn from the driver, but that is not working, and hesitationfrom 0-5, from 27-45, etc.is very pronounced.if you "floorboard" it from slow speeds, its hesitation is great, and car almost dies.lexus says "don't do that", but from car creation to now, car movement meant add more gas, not the reverse.my safety depends on it. *nlm
Lexus es300 2003 - extremely dangerous situation when accelerating from 5-10 mph to full acceleration (passing/merging onto highway for example).transmission hesitates a very long time (1-2 seconds) before kicking in.dealer claims this is a known problem but nothing is being done about it.researching lexus forums indicates this is a wide spread problem for 2002, 2003 years at least.the hesitation is extremely unnerving in a high stress merging environment at least and potentially dangerous accident potential at worse.
The lexus es300 has had a serious hesitation problem since delivery in march 2003. I have had it in for service several times before the accident complaining about this problem.on may 8th,2006,my wife was trying to make a left turn at an intersection and upon accelerating through the turn the car hesitated/lagged and was struck by an oncoming auto. After contacting lexus direct, they came out to test drive the auto. I was contacted several days later and was told that my lexus has no problem. Since this problem still exists, i took the car back in for service on may 26th, 2006 and again was told that my car had already received a transmission computer update and their final words were "vehicle is operating as designed at this time". This car still has the problem.
On two separate occasions, i have taken my 2003 lexus es300 in for service to repair a defective transmission.i have 23,511 miles on my vehicle and the transmission is shifting erratically and hesitating.it is causing unsafe driving conditions.lexus denies any responsibility to fix the problem.
Ltr fm brett woody (tx) re dangerous defective transmission software problems in the 2002-2003 lexus es300, reply attn jan crow/ houston ofc.*phconsumer would apply more and more pressure to the brake pedal but the vehicle wouldn't accelerate.*ph the transmission failed twice.lexus had given the consumer a new vehicle and it had similar problems.the consumer was almost involved in several accidents.on numerous occasions, after the brake pedal was tapped, the vehicle would accelerate but the rpm's would rise and the vehicle would barely move.in stop in go traffic the vehicle would surge forward.(it felt as if the transmission slipped then the surging occurred)there was an annoying rattle in the ceiling console. *sc updated 7/5/12
Hesitation upon acceleration. I notice the vehicle lacks the ability to pick up speed from a slow down or dead stop. I feel this in 1st-3rd gears when accelerating from a deceleration speed or stop. This is very serious and is cause for safety concerns. I just bought this vehicle and i have another problem with a clicking, whining noise when turning into a parking spot or making slow turns.
Transmission is unpredictable. Sometimes it hesitates, sometimes it lurches. It shudders at times when shifting.i've had the car in to the dealer for 2 computer download fixes.the first lasted a day making the car seem like the demo i test drove.the car was returned and another fixby computer was done with no change to the querky, unsafe condition of this transmission.my wife was nearly broadsided in cross traffic pattern as the car hesitated as she attemped to turn onto a side street.i have had 4 similar situations.these problems are at speeds up to 40 mph.these problems do not seem to occur if you stomp on the accelerator from a stoped position.the genearal manager at the agency has driven the car "around the block" and experianced none of these problems.yet the servive dept. Admits its not the way this car should operate and no further manufacturer update/correction is available.they say they are working on it. The manager says per toyota this is the normal way this car drives and they won't do anything to satisfy my complaint.these two statements are a contradiction.i've been advised by one of the technicians to use premium fuel because it would help the engine/transmission work better.i've done this since that conversation and the performance is still sub standard and in stop and go traffic still unpredictable and dangerous. *la
While driving and without warning, the transmission jerked, which caused the driver to pull off the highway.the driver had thevehicle towed to the dealer.the vehicle jerked at acceleration, especially when going at slower speeds.the problem occurred with no warning and was intermittent which also displayed a sluggish delay.
2003 lexus es300 with accelerator pedal, automatic transmission, and vehicle speed control issues. Consumer states that the when trying to accelerate from a low speed there is a delay before the engine responds.the consumer stated he experienced a significant abrupt downshift when slowing down from higher speeds and an abrupt upshift when accelerating from a slow speed. It felt as though the transmission could not decide what gear it should be in.the consumer was advised a computer patch was available for the problem, but it usually did not work and it could make the problem worse.
Car will not accelerate from stop at times. Engines revs but transmission will not catch. Several near accidents at stop signs and traffic lights. Transmission shifts very rough and makes car steer erratically. Car will be parked until repaired. Lexus dealer states this is normal.
When accelerating out of a slow turn(usually a u-turn) the car will delay approx 1 second before transmission engages. When slowing to stop but not completely stopping the transmission feels like it is slipping when accelerating.
I have now sent my car in for service twice to lexus of orlando about unexpected surging of the vehicle and vehicle hesitation when the accelerator is pressed. This is an intermittent and dangerous problem, as i do not know when it will occur.when it does occur the upshift is harsh, the downshift delayed as if the transmission is confused about the driver's intention, and there is pronounced hesitation when the accelerator is pressed. This lack of responsiveness leaves both the vehicle and passengers exposed to accident and injury. On my first visit, i was told the vehicle computer would be reset, as the vehicle learns your driving style in the first 30 or so miles, and i must have driven the vehicle harshly. This so called reset did nothing to fix the problem; less than a week later, i narrowly escaped a crash after my car hesitated while crossing an intersection. I promptly returned the vehicle to the dealer for service. Upon completion of the second service, which included a drive with the technician, lexus service now says these problems are inherent to the model and they can't fix them. In addition, i am aware that numerous owners frequently complain of hesitation and surging in 2002, 2003, and 2004 models andmany complaints (over 100) of the same nature have been filed with the nhtsa.this statement is to issue notice that i am not satisfied, and the problem has not been fixed.
There is a delay after sitting at a stop light and then at take off.the dealer could duplicate the problem and the manufacturer and dealer states that it is the new design.the problem would also occur when making a left turn, merging into traffic, entrance ramps, intersections and parking spots. *sc
Ongoing and worsening lack of accelleration predictability.car will hesitate especially when power is required (such as merging traffic, left turns, etc.)automatic ransmission sounds like it delays engaging when necessary.
From the day i got the car the automatic transmission has been in trouble. The problem is the shift from 1st to 2nd. Under light throttle there is free wheeling and engine run-up and it bumps into second. I know it will eventually fail. Lexus has played with the computer control but can't correct this. They tell me this normal, but i know it is not normal for any non- lexus transmission.
Since my acquisiton of a 2003 lexus es-300, the vehicle has displayed very uneven shifting and hestitation as the transmission upshifts and downshifts, particularly at low speeds.in response to my complaint after 2,000 miles of driving, the dealer examined the problem and i was told that lexus had provided a solution in the forms of a "re-flash" for the on-board computer. This was performed, however, failed to improve the situation at all.when i complained a second time after 5,600 miles of operation, the dealer told me that nothing further could be done and referred me to the lexus national customer satisfaction line.after several calls i was told by a national representative that the vehicle was operating as designed and nothing could/would be done. In its present condition, the vehicle is both unpleasant to drive and unsafe since it hesitates before accelerating.
*sc

My 17 year old daughter was driving my 2003 lexus in town.we have never had any previous similar incidents, and have not experienced the same thing since.she had stopped at a stop light, but was too far back, so she wanted to pull up a little.she took her foot off the brake, and the car moved forward.she repeatedly pushed the brake, but they did not work.the car stopped when she hit the car in front of her.i had the car checked after the accident, but they couldn't find anything obvious.however, she, and the other passengers, have verified that she repeatedly pushed the brake to no avail.
I noticed when i would pull out of my driveway i would hear a knock when i put the car in reverse also; i was driving home from work one evening and it was raining i was on a busy freeway, i was beginning to slow down and the brakes went all the way to the floor and a loud rubbing noise occurred i slid for about a min. Thank god i was able to pull off the freeway ,this has occurred several times, i prepare for it now by being very careful. This is my only means of transportation. Just the other day i was on a business trip and the guy that valet parked my car told me he almost hit another car, because of the brakes going all the way down. I have had the brakes change and 2 sets of tires within the last 2 yrs neither was the problem. Please help.
While driving 4 mph and depressing the brakes brake pedal pulsated, causingextended stopping distance, which resulted in vehicle hitting an embankment head on. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership for inspection.
While parking consumer depressed the brake pedal andvehicle lurched forward, hitting a building.the front of the vehicle was damaged. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who could not determine the cause of the problem.
While driving 65 mph driver applied the brakes andfront end shook and pulled to the left.consumer, was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it home.consumer contacted the dealer, and will have the vehicle towed to the dealer for repair the next day.

I realize that my problem, with a bad radio is not a mechanical one.however, i am sending this for your information, and to indicate that lexus does not live up to its ads as pursuing perfectioni have spoken to a number of people at lexus, in my dealership and at the main office over a period of 10 months.i have even written to the vice president of lexus.he did not reply to my first letter so i sent him a second letter, certified. Return receipt.i received a response to that second letter from someone at customer relations. In addition to that call, i have received a call from a service manager at the dealership where i purchased my car, and from another person. The final decision seems to be that, although they know that this is a problem with the radio in the es 300, and that they realize that it is due to a faulty antenna in the rear window, but there is nothing that they can do about it.i told that person that is not acceptable to me and am waiting for a response which i assume will be negaztive.
I was driving to work which is approximately 15 miles from my home.upon entering the parking lot, i had to yeild to a school bus and stop.after the stop i proceeded to drive at approximately 5 mph to park the car.i turned four times to get to the parking space with foot on the break or just coasting.as i turned into the parking space with the brakes pressed. The car acceralated and went over the curb and proceeded on the grass.my foot was on the brake throughout this whole incident.i tried to stop the car by pushing the brakes down harder.since the brakeks were not respond, i took my foot off the brake and stomped/pumped the brakes with no avail.the brakes were not responding.the car was on the grass and luckily since the steering wheel was in a left hand turn postion i avoided hitting students and a huge tree.using the emergency brake finally stopped the car.3.i called 180025lexus and had them pick the car up and take it to the dealership (sterling mc call lexus)the servicer advisor (lopez)called saying they couldn't find anything wrong with the vechile and it was ready to be picked up.when the car was picked up my husband made a notation on the servie sheet saying he did not agree.he also went to talk to the sales manager (cook) to let him know what had happened and how unhappy we were.he also let him know that we had researched lexus on the nhtsa site and found this is not an isolated incident and many orther reports have been filedconcerning brakes not working and with high acceration. He said to report it to 180025lexus and he woudl get on to it once it was reported. I am afraid to drive this car because of the safety issue and since lexus will not take responsibilty the car must be replaced.
Unwanted acceleration while applying the break while slowing down the rpm gauge pins itself to about 3000. The car will not down shift until it jolts forward just a little and the you can feel the lower gears engage. I bought it as a used vehical about 3 weeks ago with 80,336 miles . I see lots of complaints for the same thing on many other vehicals of the same make model and year. I'm assuming it's a bad speed sensor . Why is this not a recall? this started happening after we took a ride on the highway. And it only appears to happen while the car is in motion. Sometimes the car will not accelerate when the accelerator is applied it just makes the rpms rev up, and these doesn't go any faster kind of the same effect you would get if it was in neutral and applied the accelerator.
The consumer stated at any time the vehicle accelerated without warning. No impact reported.please provide additional information.the vehicle sticks in gear.*tc

As i was pulling into a parking space, my 2003 lexus es suddenly accelerated and wentover the curb and a small grass embankment.i immediately applied brakes and it did start slowing down.i finally got the car stopped.thankfully no one was in that parking lot.don't know what damage has been done to the car.this is frightening because there was absolutely no control over the car.

On january 13, 2010 while my wife was driving our lexus es 300, the car accelerated as she was entering a parking space, causing the car to collide with a pole in the parking lot. The dealer where we purchased the vehicle (lexus of louisville) would not repair the vehicle because it claimed the car was not one of the models recalled. We repaired damage to the body at a cost of $2500, but are now concerned that the vehicle is not safe to drive.

On 9/4/2011 at approx. 1: 41 pm, i was pulling my 2003 lexus es300 (with my foot on the brake) into a shopping center parking space when it suddenly surged, then accelerated over the curb and onto a sidewalk where people were dining at tables.as thecar accelerated over the curb,i pushed harder on the brake and tried to steer the car away from the diners. As the lexus goes over the curb and onto the sidewalk, the car continued to accelerate like it was being pulled, and the driver's side bumper hit a table of diners.three people are injured; one with compound fracture. The car continued to accelerate as i continued to push on the brake, trying to will this car to stop.it hit tables and chairs as people jumped out of the way of this runaway car! the car deflected off a building and came to a stop on the sidewalk. My foot was still on the brake. Tire marks from the braking were visible on the curb and sidewalk as local news stations recorded and aired. Airbags did not deploy. The weather and visibility were clear.around 10/4/2011, one month after the wreck, a toyota investigator inspected the car's accelerator pedal and found it"operated smoothly and returned to its idle position withoutany binding or sticking...[it was] correctly aligned...no damage observed. The electrical connector was in place and secure....a diagnostic system check showed that there were no trouble codes relating to the operation of the vehicle." but my foot was on the brake.as of 3/12/2012:property damage: $20,000. Lexus body damage:$9000. Personal injuries: one settled, one countered, one talking with a personal injury lawyer. I no longer own the car. I was terrified to drive it.

My car over the last couple of yearsstartedexperiencing abnormal acceleration . There weretimes it uses to surge or sound like it wasramping up togofast, even with my foot on the break, you could hear the acceleration trying to ramp up like if my foot wasn't on the break it would just take off.then the opposite started to happen. My car idle would just drop and basically when i wouldgo to take off from a stop, the car would not accelerate at all. It was inconsistent so sometimes it would over accelerate and sometimes under. There was no accident, but i've had a few close calls and some people to get aggravated at my car.i took it to the pep boys they thought it neededflushed maybe injection cleaning like all otherscenarios i am just now reading about.after that, it seemed to work for a short while, but then the issue start occurring again. I had my spark plugschanged and newcoils , new air flow hose to make sure there was no apparent reason for the issues. The problem still exist so i took it to a lexus dealership where their suggestion is the problem is in the throttle bottle.
The contact owns a 2003 lexus es300 purchased april 2004. She immediately began experiencing failures when the vehicle surged and violently lunged forward while it was idle. The dealer stated that the vehicle was a "smart car" and was aware when there was a driver, other than herself behind the wheel, which would "confuse" the vehicle. No diagnostic test were performed. The failure progressed and the vehicle was taken back to dealer a second time. Although the dealer became familiar with the failure; they stated that she needed to wait a year until the "new programming" was available. One year later, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for the software reprogramming and the failure became progressively worse. The vehicle continued to lunge violently while sitting idle, driving at speeds of under 35 mph or while coasting. When the vehicle lunged it felt as if she was being struck from the rear by another vehicle. There were no additional repairs made to the vehicle. The vin was not available.the failure and current mileages were approximately 78,000.

I was pulling out of the garage slowly to pause on the driveway to close the garage door and when i step on the gas in reverse the car flew out of the garage and i couldn't stop it with the brakes. There was a small roofing across the street which stopped the car. No one was nearby so no one was hurt. The accelerator seemed stuck for this incident to happen. However, lexus had an inspector check the car and didn't find anything wrong that showed on the computer so they won't take responsibility for this occurrence and they closed the case. I tried to speakto someone to send this to arbitration but no one would speak to me. Case closed.this was a very frightening experience with no control in the car.
Since i purchased the car, i have been complaining about a hesitation and stuttering when accelerating after a slow-down or a stop. I was told there was nothing wrong several times and more recently have been told it is a design flaw in the computer-controlled accelerator and cannot be fixed. I have several times had a close call on the freeway when i needed to accelerate quickly and the car hesitated before accelerating. I have not had an accident, but have been very frightened by the delay in performance. I have had 2 previous lexus es 300's that did not have this problem.

On jan 20, 2005 at about 7:30pm i was returning from work driving my lexus 2003. Just before reaching my home, i turned right into notley road from stone gate drive at silver spring, md after stopping at the stop sign. Before i realized, the car knocked over the mail box of the house on the right side and started racing on the yard of the house. Next the carknocked down the street light, crossed a road and raced towards a tree. Although i applied, the brakes were not working. Ultimotely the car crashed on to a tree, turned over and i was lucky enough to crawl out of the car with much effort. I was taken to the montgomery county general hospital by ambulance and after being examined by the physician and xrays iwas released.the car was ultimately towed to lexus body shop and was pronounced a total lossi feel that the lexus took off on its own when i turned right from a stop sign into the notley road damaging propery and ultimoately crashing on to a tree. Because there was snow on the yard, i was able to videotape the track marks made by the car from the beginning to the end of the crash. I hope that you will investigate this incident and give me some report.

The 2003 lexus es300 suddenly accelerated without warning, causing the vehicle to come out of a driveway, go completely across the street, up onto the sidewalk, and hit poles/fence, causing severe injuries. The gas pedal was not pressed down hard at the time, and there was no explanation for the rapid acceleration.
While waiting in heavy traffic at an intersection and without warningvehicle suddenly accelerated.this caused thedriver to rear end the vehicle in front.upon impact, both air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to the dealer.the insurance company totaled the vehicle.the dealership insisted that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.the consumer contacted the manufacturer and was told that nothing could be done.
*la
While driving at 70 mph in the fast lane on the freeway, my car suddenly lost acceleration and the check engine light came on. I was able to get my car to the right and get off the freeway to a gas station. As i was slowing to a stop, the car was shuddering before it came to a complete stop. I checked the owners manual and it said it was probably the electronic throttle control. I followed the instructions in the manual and was able to drive the car at lower speed to get home and then get it to the dealer the next morning.
Ongoing and worsening lack of accelleration predictability.car will hesitate especially when power is required (such as merging traffic, left turns, etc.)automatic ransmission sounds like it delays engaging when necessary.
The contact owns a 2003 lexus es300. The contact stated that when the driver was shifting into reverse gear, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and he lost control of it. The driver crashed into another vehicle and a tree. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. There were no previous acceleration failures. She took the vehicle to the dealership and the dealer told her that they could see nothing mechanically wrong. She called the manufacturer and the representative told her that they could not assist her because they had no related reports. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was 49,094. The failure mileage was 44,916.updated 04/19/10.
When making as low turn, at under 5 miles per hour if the accelerator is depressed there is a significant lag before the car reacts and moves.dealer claims that is the way it is an can't fix it.also happened with a 2007 lexus es 350 as a dealer loaner and this time resulted in an accident with $3,700 damage to lexus.
