When starting the vehicle smoke appeared through the cracks of the dash board. The ignition was turned into the off position and when trying to start it again, it didn't turn, the ignition was locked. Flames then shot through the cracks on the dashboard near the radio. Within seconds the vehicle was engulfed and within 3 minutes it was totaled. Thankfully i got out the car in time.

Hello,i'm the owner of a 2004 range rover hse, and i remember from about 2005 i have been complaining to land rover of manhattan about a loud noise coming from the front of the car and also once the car hits 60 the handle bar vibrates out of control with each drive feeling worse and worse. I have been trying over the years to explain this to the service department with no help what so ever at all. I kept being told that nothings was wrong with the car and that noise was the engine, i would reply why is that sound so loud...i was given another excuse. I purchased my car from land rover of manhattan brand new... Please help me.

The engine/head gasket issue is the repair that is the most critical and terminal condition for the vehicle. The dealers mechanics will never fix the gasket, so they will only offer the engine replacement, but either repair will cost you more than the suv is worth.and yes, the brake pads and then rotors wear out very quickly, because of the weight of the vehicle (the dealer says). I personally think it has more to do with the fact that there are 2 disc front brakes and 2 drum rear brakes on the vehicle, hence the wear and weight all goes to the front of the vehicle. Another poor design flaw issue, and i was told the drum brakes were there to better allow the off-roading. Yeah, who ever could off road these things, they fall apart on the driveway!

Check engine light is on. Took truck through inspection and it failed. Took truck to range rover dealer, paid for diagnostic test ($120.38) and was told there was an air leak. Paid $723.53 drove about 1 block and the light came on again. Turned around and took truck back to dealer. They said they did something to fix the problem. The next day, the check engine light came back on. Have been to the cherry hill, nj dealer 5 times, spent hours waiting and can't drive my truck because the check engine light is still on and my inspection sticker has expired. Won't be going back to the cherry hill dealer.took truck to the shop recommended by the nj inspection department and was told the catalytic converter at right front weld is cracked . I have paper work to show it was still under extended warranty for 11 yrs/120,000 miles. Howcan this issue be resolved? please respond. Thank you.

I noticed a ticking sound coming from my engine compartment.after having it diagnosed at the range rover dealership i was told that it was the tensioner guides and that i would need a new engine.

Bought this vehicle for wife brand new for $80,000. First 38,000 miles best car ever owned. Then the landslide began. First bad vibration front end we pay $1,300 for wheel bearings. Thetransmission cooler rusted out. Our fault salty roads $1,100.00 next the radiator goes $1,800 on us. By now 72,000 miles on it. Keep in mind my wife only uses to goto grocery store and pick kids up from school. God forbid we ever took it off road or thru the plains of africa. Now the biggy starts engine surging for no reason, vibration in steering wheel. Yes tires are new and balanced. Then the notorious transmission failsafe. Limpmode. Safety mode.how about sucker mode. Take it to dealer and they say need new transmission. I freak and second mechanic there looks at it and said its the transfer case motor $3,100. Oh yea that would be on us as well. So i say i'll tell you what put it in writing, that for sure this is the problem and if fixed all my transmission problems go away and if they don't its on you guys until its fixed. Yes you know what they said. I mean what happened to honesty and integrity. Love your neighbor as yourself. Stand by your work. Look i knew going into this car it was high maintenance but it does not even have 100,000 miles on it. Never fixed. Somedays it acts up all day other times once or twice it limps very sporadic. Pretty much a weatherby car. Whether or not it will act up or not. Ashamed to sell it and give someone else the problems. Tried telling people about problems and they said they would give me $7,000 carmax would not touch it actually refused to appraises it even though it was the cleanest they have seen. Issue the auction had a lemon flag on all the rangerovers with 70,000 miles or more. Nice!

My car has endless problems in every aspect!! anyone that owns one are having the same issues and nobody can seem to fix it, nor can i get parts to fix it, and the parts you do get to repair the vehicle break faster than the original parts on the car !! my engine has not failed yet but my transmission has and the dealer ship wont fix it and said there is nothing wrong with it !! iv paid more money fixing the car than i have for the car !! i can't go more than 1000 miles before something else breaks !! i have owned the car for about 18 months and its been in the shop for about 12 of those 18 months !! everyone that has one of these landrover freelanders has the same issues and nobody can get parts for this car ! nothing works right and nothing runs like it should and even the mechanics at the dealer ship will take you aside and tell you get rid of it while you still can !!! i cant and neither can allot of others like me because of the money they have put into the car just to keep it on the road !! this car has left me and my 20 month old son stranded in the middle of nowhere on more than three or four or five occasions !! i lost track of how many times !! and when something goes wrong with this car your stuck wherever your at !! its not safe to walk down a freeway with a baby at any time during the day or night and that's exactly what iv had to do on many different occasions !! this is not a safe car by any means ! when my fuel pump went out my car just died at 60 miles an hour on the highway and nearly caused an accident with me and many other cars and i thank the good lord nothing happened when the car died and it felt like someone was slamming on the brakes !! this car is a safety hazard in the worst way !! kids should not be allowed too ride in this car do too the fact they might get hit by a car when it dies and leaves you on the freeway or anywhere else your at !! i don't let my son in this car unless its absolutely necessary !! i'll borrow my moms car just to go to the store with him !!

We currently have a landrover freelander that is on its third engine (within 1 year).we are continuously inconvenienced with this vehicle having issues that bring it back to the dealershipthey claim to fix the issue and within 3,000 miles we are back again like clockwork.landrover does know about this issue, and we have a vehicle that we could never sell to anyone else, purchased an extended warranty on, and have absolutely no recourse with. I brought the car in last week for them to fix an issue, service engine light was on andi was inhaling coolant fumes; they stated that it was fixed, no sooner than 4 hours after i picked the car up on friday afternoon, did the same check engine light go on and i currently am driving around inhaling fumes from coolant again.when do these issues get resolved.it has been over a year of the same issues with a car, that the sales woman's words to my husband were, the first vehicle created by landrover is still on the road.my car was purchased new, has approx. 57,600 miles on it, it is 5 years old, and for the last year and a has had nothing but issues. I asked the service manager how many of these models have had issues stated, more than he would like to admit. Please let me know what can be done.at this point my husband would like the extended warranty money back and at least half of the book value of the vehicle.

The car dealer was responsible for the damage of my engine. In replacing the engine, they manage to disconnect the horn and front speaker. It's very dangerous to drive a vehicle with out and horn. They are not willing to fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 land rover range rover. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the engine exhibited an abnormal increase in rpms and stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was awaiting the results from the diagnostic test. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 75,025.

Many land rover freelanders are having serious problems due to the faulty construction of the engine. Prior to complete engine failure, there may be unexplained coolant loss, overheating, and other problems related to head gasket failure. Because the cylinder liners are steel and the block is alloy, the cylinder liners tend to work their way into the block. When this happens, there is no way to repair the vehicle short of engine replacement, and many of the replacement engines have the same construction defect as the original vehicle.

Total power loss of 2004 range rover due to front drive shaft problem.

I own a 2002 freelander se that has had nothing but problems that have left the car stalling on the road or overheating. I have all repair paperwork and have obeyed all regular maintenance schedules. The engine should have been replaced but land rover refuses to make the necessary repairs. Other issues have been experienced throughout the life of the car. The vehicle was purchased new.

2001 landrover discovery head gasket was never fixed still having trouble with the car.

Check engine light , ticking engine, antifreeze , oil leak, smelling coolant inside car and numerous other issues such as window regulator , wiper motor and rattling noises underneath car has been my complaints since feb 13,2008. Parts were replaced that didn't correct the problem of the ticking engine, coolant leaks, smell of coolantinside car,and check engine light which always comes on a couple of hours after the dealer returns my car to me.carwas towed from freeway dueto breakdown on the way home 15 minutes after picking car up from madison dealership for engine repair.dealership stated that this was due to an oil seal/oil plug and it was not their fault although they just finished working on the engine.i did not have my car for a total of 30 days not including theprior visitswhere they took almost 2 weeks to diagnose the problem.i was charged for a rental car during this period.milwaukee dealership claimed they corrected the engine problem on 3 different visits which i paid $600.00 for a timing belt which never corrected the problem along with a $100.00 deductible for using the warranty.the parts replaced on the vehicle is as follows;manifold assy. Motor assy for wiper blades, window regulator, timing belt and differential front mounting which did not resolve rattling noise underneath car.milwaukee dealership has also attempted to correct these same problems with no success.the coolant leak is still apparent and the check engine light is on again.the only thing the dealership can tell me is to monitor how many times i have to replace coolant. In the mean time, they have sent me home with a carthat has a check engine light on and a disappearing coolant problem. I guess they will continue giving me the runaround until my warranty expiresaug 2,2008 just as many others has reported they did to them.please help!!!!!

My 2004 hse freelander with only 35,000 miles on it, this vehicle has been nothing but problems and it has been in the shop since june. '07 until jan. '08 for a coolant leak that lead to entire engine change. The keyless entry stopped unlocking the doors behind the passanger seat. My back window regulators are broken and i cannot close this window. Land rover needs to focus more on quality.

Car idles high and revs to 4 rpms to change to another gear it appears transmission struggles to switch gears and problem not fixed... I believe it is a dealer defect and should be replaced by dealer ....it appears its a sensor not sending correct message to transmission , however sensor is connected to radiator and thus i would have to replace entire radiator....... This is absolutely a dealer malfunction i should not be responsible for this i have 59,000 miles and my warranty was up at 50 thousand.......has this been reported before??i asked dealer why hasn't there been a recall if they are aware of problem and he said cause problem doesn't affect car for many years.

I had a 2006 range rover super charge with engine/transmission problem and coolant problems.this problem existed from 5,000 miles all the way to 64,000.i kept complaining and bringing the car back to the first place it broke down which was in georgia.i tried to take the truck to a service place in new jersey but was told i had to bring the car back to the first place where it was so called repaired!which to me was too far!after bringing the car and complaining to land rover corporate no one would help me and the transmission went on the car and the radiator which i was forced to pay for both even though i was still under warranty and the problem was never fixed for the whole time i had the vehicle!this created a hardship for me and it cost me over $15,000 which i paid and when i returned the vehicle i am now being sued for over $12,000 dollars which sounds crazy to me and the service manager who i complained about was later fired for not honoring warranties and being disrespectful!please help me!after researching this site i see that this is a on going problem with range rover!

The 2003 landrover freelander stalled on 2 seperate ocassions, once in an active intersection with barely missing being struck by another vehicle. The 2nd time ocurred about 4 minutes before the previous instance. Additionally, the vehicle as a whole shouldn't be on the highway. To my knowledge this vehicle has never been in an accident and it's uncertain if it may be refurbished from a area where damage was such that some work and relocation presented it for sale elsewhere. The vehicle purchased at a little over 73,000 miles has been in the shop 14 times in 27 months totalling well over $10,000 in repairs. I paid $12,288 for the vehicle. Intake maniifold gaskets, cylinder head gaskets, head bolts, cam bolts, the famed "coolant leak" that has coolant leaking into the engine causing it to cease up. That's the only thing that hasn't happened mechanically with this vehicle. I ride around, when it's not in the shop, with coolant in the back in case its starts to steam again. Lock assemblys (2x), torque converter motor, themostat and several other issues that make it non-highway worthy. This is just mine, at the emunds.com automotive forum among the many others i visited there are hundreds of others with the same problems and are left with either, broken down sitting in the driveway, in the driveway after its last repair so miles are kept low for resale or forced to procure another vehicle or mode of transportation, or forced to continue driving it as its their only source of transportation and low resources while still paying a loan on it and an extended warranty company that you hope doesn't dance around the responsibility of paying for repairs that are obvious covered items in the warranty. Finally, if it weren't bad enough to be stuck with this vehicle and not know if it will remain operable for the length of the loan, currently 48 months, i can't even rely on the vehicle to safely transport my wife and daugther. Landrover mechanics can't keep these vehicles on the road.

I purchased a 2004 range rover on the evening of 05/12/11 from momentum land rover in texas.on the morning of 05/13/11 the car began to over heat and stopped.took it back to the dealer and they claimed that the wrong type of coolant was placed in the car.mind you, that i did not service the car within the 10 hours i drove off the lot.the car was in the shop for 4 days.picked the car up and two days later the same thing occurred.it over heated and stopped.this time the dealer st that the thermostat needed replacing.the car was there for 15 days. Again picked the car up at 6pm and by 4pm the next day the same thing it over heated and stopped.i have purchased a used car before, but i must say this is the worse.

2004 land rover freelander hse, engine problems at 50k miles- electrical problems, rear passenger window motor, very costly, bought the car in 2007 with 38k, hardly drive the car cause i travel for work and have rental cars, but when i do drive the freelander- it causes me money, something will break even if i drive it for 5 miles...land rover should compensate freelander owners because these cars shouldn't be sold to us when the car itself is unsafe and a lemon in the beginning...please- help!! incidental dates are too much to list!!

The contact owns a 2004 land rover range rover. Whenever the vehicle was started the contact noticed that the engine made a loud clanking sound similar to a diesel engine sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the radiator , valve gasket cover, and the front differential were replaced; however, the contact continued to experience the failure. The failure occurred since the vehicle was purchased. The failure mileage was 18000. The current mileage was 73000.

I am the owner of a 2005 range rover.i purchased the vehicle used in 2006 with 60,000 mile's on it. In june 2007, the frontdifferential broke while in the middle of two busy intersections.traffic was halted until some men pushed my car to the side of the road. There was no warning leading up to this breakdown.in fact, the car was just at the dealership for the 75,000 mile checkup. Not to mention range rover charged me $3,000.00 for this repair..the most recent front differential breakdown was more serious since it occurred on the expressway in the middle of nowhere. While traveling to birmingham al. From atlanta ga. At a speed of 70 miles per/hr the car made a sudden grinding noise and stop accelerating.once i realized wgat was going on i started getting to the side of the road.it was scary because part of the truck was still in the freeway lane and trucks and cars were avoidinghitting us.my teenage son had to push the car off the freeway.after this being the second time in peril i am now afraid to drive this vehicle that i owe a considerable amount of money on.this last incident occurred on march 07, 2008.the part was still under warranty since it had only been 9 months and less than 8,000 miles since the last front differential was replaced.oh by the way , the car is still at the dealership in birmingham al. They didn't have the parts and the parts haven't arrived yet. I hope something can be done to help me, and others in my position.

First occurrence - driving in residential neighborhood about 10-15mph. My 2003 rr made a big clunking noise then immediately followed and awful screeching noise. I was unable to drive, truck instantly stopped and screen stated put in neutral. I was stranded on side of road waiting for a tow truck with my 3 children, the youngest was 4 months.second occurrence - less than 1 year later, i was on vacation in cleveland ohio thanksgiving time. Driving about 30 mph and the same exact noise happened and instantly the truck stopped, i knew exactly what it was. It was 11:30 pm, i called my insurance company and there were no tow companies open. Finally someone came to assist me and pushed my 7000lb truck into an empty lot until the next day. When the help arrived they parked about 3 feet behind my truck, not knowing the truck was not safe in park my truck drifted back and hit his new bmw truck. Both times the differential went up i had to pay for it! over $2500 both times not to mention the cost to tow my truck back to md from ohio $1600. I must say that when my truck arrived at the shop all of the mechanics knew about the issue with rr's and their differentials. This is so sad, there is no warning it just happens. I expected so much more from range rover, the name to me means quality but this vehicle has not lived up to its name. Not to mention that the company has not acknowledged that this is a common issue with these vehicles and they still will not take ownership of this defect. There are many more stories like this, coincidental as it seems my good friend with a 2004 rr differential went up the same day as mine, luckily she was still covered under warranty.

The failure which occurred twice was that my front differential and front drive shaft failed (first time 48,000 miles and second 68,000 miles).what was done to correct the failure was apparently all parts were changed. Suspension:sound coming from the front end suspension when making turns at low speeds.it's happens mostly when slowing down to pull into a parking lot or when you hit a bump or go over railroad tracks.had lower control arm, lower strut and lower ball joint to try fix problem but not the case still having issue.suspension:front/rear imbalance the eas will intermittently raise the front of the car and not the rear.could be parked-i get in and start and it will pop up-leaving the rear down so the car appears to "squat".had height sensors replaced.the front end has over 2-3 inches greater clearance than the rear when this occurs.suspension: rattle under vehicle when you accelerate body: passenger door can't be opened from inside or out, door lock seems to freeze/jam. Body: door seals leaking water getting in between the inner and outer seals on the rear doors.lighting: condensation in tail lights.

This range rover steering is definitely, blind spot warning doesn't work, fuel gauge never now how much fuel is in the tank before it runs out of fuel.

The contact owns a 2004 land rover range rover. The contact stated that when driving uphill at any speed, the vehicle would hesitate and jerk simultaneously. The failure recurred numerous times.the manufacturer advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 08v635000 (power train: drive line: drive shaft) the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000 and the approximate current mileage was 123,000. The vin was not available.

Drive shaft to front differential failure as a result of rigid front drive shaft (no flex coupling) design fault by land rover.

Driving 75mph on interstate, while passing semi trailer, suddenly a loud thump and loss of drive to wheels, lost of power and sudden lost up hill i lost control of vehicle. Semi avoided me, and i was barely able to control body roll but safely brought vehicle to stop of the side of road. Towed to my mechanic, he reported that differential along with prop shaft had failed. He believed this was a recall issue. Dealer in santa fe, nm says no active recall. I have read otherwise and that the issue can occur even after initial recall work done.

Took my 2004 rr to dealer for front differential recall, having no prior issues. Left the dealer and within 20 minutes had a failure at highway speeds in miami, in rush hour traffic!! cpu on vehicle said "put vehicle in neutral" which i did and luckily coasted to the side of the freeway stranded. Thank goodness i wasn't seriously injured. Had it towed to the dealer and same issue within 70 miles of driving, dealer seems to be "dumbfounded" to the symptoms.

Nice!

A stop light was turning "green" so i step on the gas peddle, the vehicle at that time stopped abruptly and was making a grinding noise. When i step on the gas, it doesn't do anything but making a louder grinding sound. At that time, i see an error message that reads "remove gear ofneutral". I did not receive any warning message or any funny noise leading to this . This has never happen before. I had my car towed to a independent garage, since the landrover does not take any responsibility or accountability on the false design of this vehicle. I found out later it was an on going issue with the front differential, which the dealership trying to say it was an "wear and tear" issue and they were going to charge me $1,800.00 to fix. I will never purchase anything from landrover or whoever the parent company is.

Grinding noise from differential.

I purchased a new 2004 hse range rover along with a warranty extension for 100,000 miles.during the second year of ownership, the "failed trans. Program" warning started to appear, the car would suddenly shift into "limp" mode (2nd gear) with a loud thud.each time i took it to the dealership (3 different dealers) i was told it was just a sensor.nothing to worry about.i have taken it in for repair for this issue more than 8 times, my warranty just expired, and now i am told that i need a new transmission.i am livid.

We have a 2004 land rover range rover and going home one night it kept down shifting during rush hour causing the engine to rev up so we figured it was some sort of limp home mode. The next morning it started fine, we backed out of the driveway and when we shifted to drive a transmission failsafe came on and we could not even move forward. We had to back own the street to park and then call a tow truck. When it got to the dealership the transmission had to be completely replaced. I asked the dealership if there was a recall and was told no. I went online and found there was one that would cause loss of drive if it wasn't fixed. I then called land rover and even though they were trying to be helpful, informing there was a recall and that our vehicle had already been repaired, they were completely unable to help me out at all. I think when you buy a vehicle like this the transmission should not go out at 56,000 miles. Instead i have a $6,000 repair bill.

The contact owns a 2004 land rover, range rover. While the contact was driving approximately 25 mph, the transmission exhibited a jerk and surged forward unexpectedly. The rpms began to increase rapidly. When the accelerator pedal was engaged the vehicle rolled backwards. The brakes were applied and the vehicle came to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where they stated that the transmission failed due to an internal problem. The technician stated that thetransmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 75,025.updated 06/02/11updated 06/06/11

I have a 2004 range rover and my brother has a 2003. I just had my car towed today to land rover to fix a diff problem that obviously most 2002-2005 models have and land rover wants to do nothing about it!mine has 64k on it and my brothers had 58k on it.total bs that it breaks like that so quickly if at all.these are 78k trucks brand new.totally unacceptable!

Transmission failure in land rover lr3, no customer service and unwillingness to compensate for 18 days of time without the vehicle.

It started about 2 months ago after i brought my car in for a recall issue i received in the mail regarding the differentials and front drive shaft. I figure it was a good idea to have it fixed as a preventable measure. Shortly after (about 2 weeks) i started noticing "trans prog error" appear on my dashboard display but it would disappear and reappear and figure if the light does not stay on it should not be an issue. Than my car one day while driving on the fast lane of the highway just lost power and displayed to put car in neutral. I had to get the car towed to a repair shop. They told me that it was a sensor and that i should try a transmission fluid change first. That did not help, i continued driving for another 2 weeks with getting stuck in the middle of the highway several times at very dangerous times (ie. After 2am) with close calls, fortunately nothing happened to me but i would like to see that this does not happen to anyone else. I took the car to lr dealership repair and they told me that i needed a new transmission and transfer box among other things that would bring it to a $11-15k job. I find this ridiculous for such an expensive car that was well taken care of with 65,000 miles. I was out of warranty but a transmission should be the life of a car. Please help! i would like to have a recall and/or class action suit to remedy this issue as soon as possible.

I was driving at about 75 miles/hr on the interstate when my car made a loud noise and completely stopped accelerating.i was almost rearended trying to get out of the road.i was told that my by the range rover dealership that my front differential failed.i could have been killed and i was barely able to get of the road.

A couple of months ago my vehicle just stopped on bw parkway.i had been hearing a grinding noise but thought it was my tires.i went to my mechanic who told me it was the driving shaft.he replaced a part that cost me $1200 alone.now i am experiencing that same grinding noise especially if i go over 40 miles per hour.i have a feeling that it is the same issue again which is why my frustration has led me into doing some research on possible recalls.it appears that this is a common problem with my vehicle.

Front differential failure on highway, barely avoiding sure accident. Very lucky that accident did not occur!!

Front drive shaft fault on range rover 2004 vouge.

Vehicle looses all forward drive when drive shaft and differential spines sheer off.this has been reported on the internet by a large population of owners of this vehicle.i was traveling in heavy traffic on i-75 north at the i-75 and i-10 interchange when without any warning the shaft failed leaving me without the abiliy to do anything other than stop.i was nearly hit by a tractor trailor as i was on an up hill grade and was not able to get completely off the express way before the vehicle came to a stop.the vehicle's park selector on the shifter was inoperative and the vehicle could only be held in place using the parking brake.the dealer said this was a common problem and that a retorfit was in the works and would be available within 30 days.the dealer had to install an original part which according to him does not contain the re-engineered fix.this leaves me out $3,000 and with a part i know will fail again in the future without notice.

I was traveling home on i-h201 when there was a loud gear cranking sound and the vehicle could no longer accelerate.the warning came on and said to put the vehicle in neutral.the vehicle rolled to the side of the road and needed the emergency brake to stop because it couldn't shift into park.it was towed in and the dealer said that it was a front differential failure which was common with this year.it's lucky that it happened in the middle of the night when there wasn't any traffic.there weren't any mechanical warnings prior to this incident.

No warning occurred. My front differential went out on my 2004 range rover.this occurred on a residential street after stopping at a red light and trying to move forward. Fortunately i wasn't on a major hwy traveling at high speeds.

My husband, son 10 yrs old, myself , and two pugs were driving on highway 31 at appx 65 mphwhen suddenly our car made a loud crack noise and suddenly stopped accelerating telling us to put the car in neutral.we were on our way on vacation appx 90 miles out of town.fortunately the land rover dealer was open at 630 pm and when we described what had happened he knew exactly what the problem was.we had to wait 3 hours on barely what would be considered the shoulder of the road in the snow and wait for someone to tow our car to the nearest land rover dealer.the car has 54,000 miles on it and we paid 63,000 dollars for the vehicle. It was completely incompacitated and left us stranded in a very dangerous place with absoutely no recourse other than towing.thank god we made it safely however this situation could have resulted in a very different outcome.to date my car is still out of service and i a, left without a vehicle.

I have a 2004 range rover that has had the front differential replaced at 50k miles and again at 80k miles and now it has failed again leaving me stranded on the highway. The last time it was "replaced" was only 8 months ago.

2004 range rover front differential failure on highway, suddenly lost power could have been very serious in heavy traffic, had toddler and infant in car.

Failure of front differential of 2004 range rover. These failures are chronic and due to a design failure, but land rover has done nothing to correct the problem.i've asked my local dealer to replace the front end as an 'extended warranty' but have not heard if they will.if not, its a $5,000 repair item.

I was traveling in my 2004 range rover with 47k miles on i-h201 in hawaii at 55 mph with cruise control on when the engine suddenly revved up, the warning sign came on and said to put the car in neutral and it stopped accelerating.i put the car in neutral and rolled to the side of the highway.the car could not longer get into gear, made horrible grinding noises, and only could only stop with the emergency brake engaged (putting the car in park did nothing).the car had to be towed into the land rover dealership.they said that the front differential was completely gone and needed to be replaced, along with the drive shaft.this is an incredibly dangerous fault and should be addressed by land rover.

The failure which occurred twice was that my front differential and front drive shaft failed (first time 48,000 miles and second 68,000 miles).what was done to correct the failure was apparently all parts were changed. Car does not move. Old parts are available. Dealer wants to charge twice as much as aprivate mechanic wants to charge. Vehicle is not outside the warranty and dealer will not replace parts for free. Dealer does notacknowledge high rate of front differential failure.

I was approaching a stop light less than 2 miles into a trip.at regular speed i heavily applied brakes and the pedal went soft.i floored the pedal in attempt to stop; thankfully no one had begun to move as i carried into the intersection before stopping.i pulled over, read the manual to ensure i knew where to look for brake fluid pressure sensors.i also checked for leaks but did not notice anything; brakes operation was noticeably different but ok so i cautiously continued driving (no warning lights no sensors had gone off).approximately 35 miles later and at highway speed sensors and lights went crazy telling me i had no brake pressure.with brake operation as hard as a rock i pulled off the road and noticed driver side and undercarriage soaked in brake fluid.in fear of potential fire i turned off the engine and remained outside vehicle.towed to land rover dealer; replace burst driver side brake line to rear (also replaced buldged passenger side line). Land rover of huntington, ny. Given recent recall on 2006 and newer range rover models i felt it very relevant to share this information as i expect the issue is relevant for older models as well.

I notice when i am driving anytime i brake my car veers to the left and i almost crashed two times because of this my car is properly aligned and it has brand new brakes and rotors that's the reason i changed them because i thought that maybe the brakes or rotors were bad but the problem is still present so i would like to know if there has been any recalls on my particular vehicle because this is a very frustrating and dangerous problemi would very much appreciate it if someone please helped me out and contacted me as soon as possible thank you and have a great day :)

When i brake over speed bumps and downhills, the brakes vibrate and pulsate creating danger to stop hard. I've a had brake inspections and everything is ok. Abs system seems the problem and i wish i could repair it

Driving at 35 mph on a slightly slope blvd. The 2004 range rover experience a sudden lack of control by driver. Immediately felt range rover weave slightly out of control and rear end dipping downward. Thedriver had to react quickly to compensate and regain control to continue driving safely. Immediately contacted (other-foreign) repair shop and drove 5 minutes to shop. Shop ase tech diagnosis problem as abs control module failed. Reason for spontaneous air suspension lifts to vehicle when sitting in traffic. Tech notes: failure with air suspension will cause vehicle to lean (off balance) and may create hazardous driving conditions. Abs control module cost to repair $2,000. - $2,500 further diagnostic needed to determine possible other related issues to spontaneous air suspension lifting. If found leakage of suspension airbags, each air bag approximately $600 each on rear suspension. Owners feels this is an obvious and well known problem with range rovers (and other landrover models) which the manufacturer is ignoring. Owner feel manufacturer continuance to not addressing the issue may cause grave inquiry if and when suspension fails while driving.

The contact owns a 2004 land rover range rover. The contact stated that the steering wheel became loose and fell into the contact's lap. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who advised that the steering column needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 95,400.updated 11/19/13*lj

The contact owns a 2004 land rover range rover. The contact stated that the steering wheel column setting lever failed and caused the steering wheel to release, resting on the driver's lap while the vehicle was in motion. The failure was experienced several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.

2004 range rover.while driving, steering wheel dropped in lap almost causing accident .was told a "plastic gear" in steering wheel was worn out.waiting to hear from land rover.

This range rover steering is definitely, blind spot warning doesn't work, fuel gauge never now how much fuel is in the tank before it runs out of fuel.

Grand-daughter was driving my range rover. While driving the steering wheel dropped down into herlap. Was able to brake and slowly turn wheel to pull off road. Steering column would telescope but not raise/lower. Turned vehicle off, restarted, kept trying adjustment lever until finally column retracted then raised to normal position.

The contact owns a 2004 land rover range rover. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the steering wheel fractured. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 11,000.

Steering column failure, the wheel dropped onto my lap as i was driving. Almost lost control. Very scary, i had to hold wheel up which has full range of un/down motion, while trying to get to the side of the road. There was a failure of the steering wheel tilt mechanism. I disconnected the wheel tilt drive motor and rigged the wheel so it could be driven home.

The contact owns a 2004 land rover, range rover. The contact stated the vehicle was parked during heavy rains and the navigational system failed. One week later following a second heavy rain, the radio and cd player failed. The dashboard lights and turn signal lights also failed.the contact found that there was water within the navigational housing compartment, which was manufacturer within the trunk. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the mechanic confirmed that the failure was caused by water leaking into the vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 80,000.

Nice!

The contact owns a 2004 land rover range rover hse. The contact started the ignition and the air suspension inactive warning light was illuminated and the vehicle independently lowered. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the failure. The failure mileage was 61,000.

Car shake, vibrate and with strong pull towards either right side or left side. Simultaneously, there appears to be an intermittent loss of power and vehicle will not respond to gas pedal.

All range rovers from 2003-2005 have a full air ride suspension that supports the vehicle on all four corners. The concern is that the airbag that supports the front of the vehicle, ruptures and throws the vehicle off balance while cornering causes a loss of control of the vehicle. When the air suspension fails it also deactivates the anti-lock brakes making the vehicle unsafe to drive because of a lack of abs control. This is a problem that land rover is aware of and are not making any attempt to address. This is a $1200.00-$1500.00 repair for one side (left or right) not both front air bags that support the front of the vehicle. If this concerned is researched you will be amazed at the number of repairs that are done and paid for by range rover owners, because this safety issue is not reported or addressed. I am experiencing this issue now.
