This is what i sent to land rover usa last night. Have not heard from them yet."my 2004 range rover suddenly accelerated at a very high speed for a few seconds while i was parking causing damage to the car and property. Also none of the airbags deployed even though the impact was severe. I would like to be informed of any such issues and what steps were taken to correct them. I would also like to know what recourse i have. I will be contacting the nhtsa to get their input."after the shock wore off i had a closer examination of the incident and i am now positive that the accelerationwas not by me. There is evidence(skid marks) to show that brake was applied from the very beginning.i would appreciate it if the nhtsa can further investigate this incident. I have the car at the place of the incident and nothing has yet been touched.thank you

I have to replace my fuel pump two times it cost me over $2,000 and now my steering column isn't working my key won't turn i tested it by taking the fuse out and disconnecting the battery still nothing went to a current range rover spot and they said that's common in those vehicles with the steering column going out which makes the key not turn i hope that you guys can really resolve this situation because for this to be an old vehicle i'm spending a lot of money out of my pocket thank you

My alternator started going out and as my car was dying out it started speeding up i was trying to push on the break and i got to try to push on the brake it would only force the car to go forward so i was just release my foot off the brake and just let the cargo and the car had went around in circles until it died out then i tried to get a jump from a bus driver

Driving over 60mph when message alert sayingtrans failsafe prog appears.a loud grinding noise is heard and the message alert system informs me to put the vehicle in neutral. Which i immediately do. I had to coast in heavy traffic to the emergency lane and wait for tow truck.any attempt to put the vehicle in anything other than neutral results in loud grinding noise.it is an 2004 range rover with approx 73000 miles.when tow truck arrived we both noticed a large stain under the car as some type of fluid had began to leak as i waited for the tow trucks arrival.

The catalytic converter on my car has a known defect which was covered under land rover extended warrant program q058. On my specific car, the warranty period expired on may 11, 2015. An independent mechanic diagnosed a bad catalytic converter on my car in feb 04, 2014 and told me about the extended warrant program covering this known issue. I made several attempts to schedule an appointment with land rover manhattan dealership but wasn't successful in getting an appointment until after the warranty expired. Land rover is refusing to cover the repair and i have been tossed back and forth between the land rover dealer and corporate office. I think land rover waited until after the warranty expired so they can avoid paying for the repair.

I was driving 75 mph on highway on june 1st, 2016 when a loud grinding noice occurred in the front end followed by loss of drive train.car almost lost control but was able to coast to side of road.the car would still roll while in park and finally had to put emergency brake to stop it.a put in neutral warning came on in dash and i shut the motor off and left on the side of the road. This was a scary and dangerous experience and i would like to know what my options are and if this is a recall what can i do after it has failed.

I was driving down a main road on us 69 in tyler, texas friday evening.the vehicle has 51000 miles on it.i was traveling at 40mph when the car slipped out of gear and said to shift to neutral.car died on the spot, and had to have it towed.apparently itwas due to front differential breaking.iread on webs ites that 2004 and older range rovers have this problem.my vehicle was in the process of having front differential,cv axle, and transmission replaced due to this problem.

Was at a red light 3 days ago and heard a loud bang from the transmission area of my 2004 range rover. I put the car in neutral then drive and heard a grinding sound.the car was unable to move.i had the car towed to range rover, encino approximately 100 miles away.range rover said it was the front differential that was broken. The same day that i picked up the car from the service department, about 70 miles into the trip home the transmission began to rev while i was at a cruising speed of 70 mph.i thought it was a down shift but the car revved to 6,000rpms then the warning display said "trans. Failsafe mode." i am at a loss and am very disappointed.

Front differential and drive train failure 2ed time in less than 12 months.this is a known problem with all 03-05 range rovers, but yet the dealership continues to band-aid the problem.

The driveshaft gave out on the vehicle. This has happen to numerous people.

My 2004 land rover range rover has front differential problem, was driving on highway and with out any notice car lost all power and couldn't move.

Driving on city streets, about to enter the freeway, the vehicle lost power, making awful mechanical noises.the engine was running but pressing on the accelerator resulted in metallic crunching noise and no movement.i was stranded, the vehicle was towed some 35 to the purchasing dealer.i was informed that the front differential / drive shaft failed and will be replaced.this is the second such failure.the first occurred in october 2006.luckily both times were at slow speeds, close to home, and during the day.if this catastrophic failure of the front differential / drive shaft were to occur at speed?i hate to think of the accident that might happen, the damage and injuries that might occur.this is a serious design flaw which the company needs to address with a new design to replace the defect and dangerous design.

Front differential.thank god i was in a safe place.

Vehicle had been making small grinding noises for about six months.i thought it was axle issues.had it checked by local dealership.agreed to keep tires on an alignment schedule and monitor. On 4 feb, 2007 i stopped at an intersection.when the light turned green i tried to take off and the car would not move. Made a grinding noise and did not go anywhere.tried to place it in reverse, same response.had to get it towed to the dealership.

Normal driving on asphalt pavement at approximately 45 mph.front drive shaft, and or, front differential failure.resulted in inability to drive vehicle.this is second time this has happened over the last 15,000 miles.

Front differential and drive train failure 2ed time in less than 12 months.this is a known problem with all 03-05 range rovers, but yet the dealership continues to band-aid the problem.

Abrupt failure of transmission on 2004 range rover 3.0 dieseldue to failed front differential.

2004 range rover differential failure. The vehicle failed twice in traffic and just shut down, i had to have it towed. I am lucky to be alive, this problemwas very dangerous, when i did research on the vehicle i was shocked to learnthat it has not be recalled. The dealer will hit you for cost everytime, it wasaracket and a shame.

I was proceeding eastbound on 580 in san leandro at about 70 mph and heard an abrupt grinding sound and then lost acceleration. The engine was still working but could not get any torque. I was able to get the vehicle to the emergency lane as itdecelerated. Once the vehicle came to a stop it would not move again. The gears would not engage without the grinding sound.

On 7/22/07 my 2004 land rover range rover without warning and traveling approx 20mph started making a very loud grinding noise and came to a halt. I put it in park and the noise was gone. Then i shifted it into drive and again grinding noise and no movement. I shut it down and called for a tow (flatbed). At the repair shop (not dealer - the dealer said they have not heard of this issue) told me this is common with rr 2003-05 models. Since it is a common problem and a clear manufacture defect, land rover or the ford motor group should be held liable and recall all affected models and repair them. I had to pay $2600.00 for a new differential and driveshaft.

The front differential has malfunctioned twice in the past 18 months.the vehicle comes to a near screeching halt when this happens, both times at highway speeds and is unsafe.the first time it was replaced; it is currently in the shop for the second replacement.

I noticed a loss in power to the land rover range rover. Also noticed a clunking noise from the front of the suv. The suv was now in the shop for a repair thatwas common on the range rover to replace the front differential and the driveshaft. If i had not been alert to the noise when i had the window down i might have experienced a hazardous situation on the highway.the fix at this timewas just replace the parts with new ones, but i understoodthat thiswas not addressing the problem, but just providing a temporary solution until suvwas out of warranty period.the suv is a 2004 range rover with 33k miles on it.

Front differential failure.

While driving home the front differential started leaking.park the car and find thick fluid on the ground.take to dealership and they find leaking front drive shaft joint o-ring.they replaced and aligned front diff.lrna is aware of differential problems and the dangers that can come from it.after talking to lrna about the many problems we have had with this car it is very clear that they don't care about the customer other then to keep fixing the car under there warranty.i have heard of many cases of front differential's going bad on the rover forum.please check into this before someone is killed.

Catastrophic failure of front differential at 65 mph.no warning signs.vehicle unable to drive.towed to landrover walnut creek, ca.

Driving on highway and transmission failed.2004 land roverrange rover with 53k miles.front differential and drive shaft splines worn down.repaired and replaced.

Hear faint groaning from front differential for about 500 miles prior to incident. Then at about 38k miles while driving at 60 mph - a loud grinding noise and no acceleration. Steered vehicle to side of road - immobilized.problem - destroyed front differential and coupling to transmission. Dealer replaced with "improved" parts and revised installation procedure with promise that this replacement should last for the life of the vehicle.i am concerned about it being a recurrent issue, especially after reading that this seems to happen every 20k to 30k miles. Which means that the next projected failure would not be covered by the manufacturer warranty and would be totally my cost to repair.

Driving car home and find viscous fluid leaking from front coupler.take to dealer and they find rear drive shaft assembly gone bad!replaced/repaired rear drive shaft assembly.(propeller shaft) this is the second problem with differential issues. (both in the same day!)again, lrna is aware of the ongoing problems with it's drive shafts on the rover.after talking to them it is very clear that they don't care that they have a car out there on the road with problems that could kill someone.take some action!

2004 range rover went dead in the middle of the street due to shaft/differential failure.

No problems observed with the car.suddenly the steering wheel became loose and fell down to a position where the bottom of the wheel was stuck between my legs.the tilt mechanism failed while the car was the moving and the wheel, although attached to the car, was forced down onto my legs.steering wheel would no longer stay in a drivable position without $1300 replacement of steering column.this was a common problem with range rovers (it was easy to find many others online with a similar problem) and land rover had a recall on another part a year ago, which they deny had any impact on this.spoke to dealer and land rover north america, no compensation was obtained, they were not interested in the fault.one dealer told me some customers had this problem multiple times and had the steering column replaced multiple times before 50,000 miles.unacceptable on an $80,000 car.dangerous

While driving the steering column dropped in my lap!!!!car goes to dealer and they replaced broken steering column.i was told that they have had many cases of this.nhtsa needs to hold lrna liable for this and make them fix this common problem before someone is killed.between this and the differential issues someone is going to get hurt or killed.forget about all the electrical problems these cars have.

Less than a year ago, on my 04 rr, i received an message across my odometer saying "air suspension inactive" took it to the dealer on 2-1-2008, the dealer charged me $50 to "cleared the codes" and they could not find anything else wrong with it. Fast-forward to 1-15-2009, i received the same message again, took it back to the dealership, this time they mention i needed a new compressor, which will cost me $1550. Very interesting, when i took it in while my vehicle was still under warranty they couldn't identified the issue from several visit i have made in the past concerning this issue, now my vehicle is no longer under warranty, this miracle fix just pop up. Very disappointed with this dealership and landrover, to have such a long company tradition and a reputable name, but times like this, they would not step up and be accountable.
