The contact owns a 1995 land rover discovery. While driving approximately 55 mph with the cruise control engaged, there was a smoke odor as the cruise control independently disengaged and the vehicle made a jerking motion. The srs and abs warning indicators illuminated. The contact discovered a burning odor coming from the steering column. The dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 98v040000 (air bags, vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 159,000.
My son had an accident in our 1995 land rover discovery.he lost control and hit a parked car with the front of the land rover and the insurance company considers the land rover a total loss.luckily no one was injured, but we are concerned that the airbags did not deploy.the insurance adjuster told us that with this much damage the airbags should have deployed.i thought it might be something that some regulatory agency should be aware of.we purchase vehicles with safety equipment and have no way of determining if they will actually work when needed.
Landrover never notified me of multiple recalls as 1st and only owner multiple repairs dealer won't honor recall repairs pass right door hinge failure. Rear caro door look failure. Gas tank crack leaking. Cruise control prob and air bag light on. Exterior light failure. Window failure 3x to openfront/ rear regulator and or motor multiple times. Brakes failure multiple times replaced master cylander 2x& booster. Oil leaking g oil cooling hoses fail.plus... Starter. Alternator. Ignition system .belts and multiple hose replaced. This is a parts black hole vehicle costng thousands in repairs. Once out of warranty dealers ripped me off always stating unrelated issues. No one else. An or will work on the car. Same things continue to fail. Manufactuer won't address issues or honor recall's. Car has 101k miles. Original owner stuck repairing unreliable car i can't afford new car and won't sell lemon to someone else . It's not right. Ripped off. Y mechanic. Filled multiple buearu of automotive repairs complaints against dishonest estimate shops. Please help do something replaced fuel pump for stealing non start and was ripped off door opens when locked and driving. Fuel leaks filling tank. Oil everywhere a fire hazard no one will help. Dashboard material over the passenger airbag is coming apartwhich may cause the passenger airbag to deploy. Also,airbag light is on, indicating that there is a problem with the system.dealer cannot determine the problem.please provide further information.
Hit black ice vehicle rolled over drivers head rest flew off seat belt unlatched and air bag did not deploy.tt

The consumer has experienced problems wit driver and passenger side air bags. When vehicle wa s involved in an accident, their driver's and passenger's side air bags failed to deploy.the manufacturer has yet to be contacted.
While driving my 1995 land rover discovery, when ever my cell phone ( motorola startac) would ring, there appeared to be a lot of chatter (clicking of relays sound)from the fuse box. I finally after replacing all the fuses and relays , replaced alternator twice and a new battery , the phone company notified me that the cell phone would not work correctly with their new (at&t/pacbell) system and replaced it with a nokia. The problem went away after making the cell phone swap.
Alarm keeps going off and causes the vehicle to cut off the starter. Tt

There's a loud deep sound within the engine compartment that's heard when the vehicle is idling or running. Thisoccurs because the engine cam shifts.manufacturer is aware of this failure, and the solutionis to place a special button in front the cam to avoid it from moving. The manufacturer and dealer have been aware of the problem while the vehicle was still under warranty but claimed it was normal engine noise.now they want to change hundreds of dollars to fix it. A factory trained land rover repair specialist reported to consumer that land rover was aware of this since 1996.

Dt:the contact stated three-four years ago the car started leaking oil because the manufacturer installed cork gaskets instead of rubber gaskets. He had it repaired three-four years ago that cost the contact $1,100. Currently,it is leaking again and it is going to cost him $2,400.

I have leased this vehicle used in 8/98 and have owned it for only @23,000 miles and have had too many problems to list. I believe it is unsafe to operate and will not jeopordize my family. It does not have high miles and is in my driveway for 3 weeks and will not start. Points to a flood vehicle-most electrical-now possibly a timing chain-car is too young for so many problems. Almost had accidents due to perfromance-would not go m/t 50 mph-full tune-ups and maintenance by me-as recent as 9/00. I need help-gm at dealer offers none!

After driving for several hours, muffler overheated, causing heat shield to overheat, allowing floorboard and carpeting to melt.this resulted in a plastic bag and tissues catching on fire.dealership examined vehicle and mentioned that the muffler could have been backed up.

While driving 70 mph, the rear right tire blew out.the driver lost control of the vehicle, and rolled over.the fuel tank cracked,and the vehicle caught on fire.the fire department extinguished the fire.the driver and two passengers sustained major injuries, and were transported to a hospital.the third passenger died.the vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined it was a plastic fuel tank that had faulty o rings.*sc
Tire failed, vehicle became unstable and rolled overgas tank integrity failed, gas splilled and ignited. My seven year old son was burned to death, my 2 year old, my wife and myself sent to hospital with third degree burns. Land rover officials agreed to a recall to prevent the problem in the future. Recall was to take place by april 2003. It has not. I believe they are intentionally dragging their feet to save a few pennies and are putting other land rover owners at risk in the meantime.
Dt:caller got a recall on the gas tank.. He has a crack in gas tank, and the dealer is giving him no help. Dealer keeps making excuses why they cant do recall work. Manufacturer has offered no help.
Fuel tank leakage reported to manufactuer.either it is caused by mecahnic or design/manufactuer defect.manufactuer unresponsive.if i proceed to repair/replace the fuel tank, all evidence would be lost.please advice.
Received letter from land rover north america about a recall #b-156 on my 1995 land rover discovery [xxx]. I am unable to find anything on your web site that guarantees this letter i received is a safety concern for my vehicle. Land rover maintains that i need to take my vehicle to an authorized dealer to inspect the fuel tank. With the past experiences this vehicle has with land rovers authorized dealers and their not so trained technicians and cost suffered from their mistakes, i find traveling two hours, then sitting waiting while my vehicle suffers unknowns then driving back home for two hours isn't rational. Dt*:the contact stated after parking the vehicle atop a hill, the vehicle was placed in park, the emergency brake applied, and the key was removed from the ignition.the contact exited the vehicle and witnessed the vehicle rolling downhill and striking a tree.the vehicle sustained frontal impact damage and the frontal airbags deployed upon impact.a passenger sitting in the rear who was not wearing a seat belt sustained minor injuries.the police were on the scene and a report was taken.the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or insurance adjustor.updated 3/3/2006 -

Tire tread separated while returning from vacation in florida on 30 july 2000.tire pressure was checked and all tires held 32 psi prior to return trip.tread separation caused the rear of our vehicle to slide from side to side and nearly roll.had it not been late at night with no traffic in nearby lanes, the grace of god, and some driving skill the outcome would have very very different for my family.as of 31 august we're still waiting on the local firestone dealer to respond to our request for replacement tires.( dot number: vn08 ipu tire size: p235-70r16 )

Both michelin tires on the drivers side of the vehicle continue to loose air pressure, on one occasion while driving the consumer lost control of the vehicle when the tire lost pressure, since that incident consumer hears a loud rattling noise in the rear of the vehicle and now it shakes while driving.nlm

While driving, consumer felt slight slipping on the accelerator while going uphill, there was an oil smell coming from the rear manifold of the vehicle, while bringing vehicle to dealer, consumer lost control of vehicle and was gently braking while it was accelerating and pulling to the left, vehicle ended up colliding into the guard rail and accelerating again, the airbags deployed and the vehicle went backwards, coming to a stop, there were no injuries in the accident.

There was a recall issued in 1998 regarding the speed control and its possible effect on the drivers airbag.my car went through the correction, but i have had problems with the cruise control twice.if this is related to the safety recall i am concerned that the correction was not sufficient.

Traveling 20mph when the accelerator pedal became stuck. Had to bend over to jiggle pedal to unstick it & put in original position. Had foot on brakes at time. Vehicle failed to stop. Took vehicle to service station center for servicing.
