Land rover 2001 discovery ii... I have illumination of hill descent control, abs, traction control dash warning lights... Caused by a malfunctioning sensor or modulator...dealers don't even know what it is. Web search shows this to be a common problem with this vehicle, with a very costly expense to repair and dealers are replacing modulators at a $2000 plus cost and the problem doesn't go away! i have loss of traction control, anti-lock brakes still work...don't know about hill descent control. No consequences yet, no repairs yet...hope there will be a recall...can't afford to have vehicle repaired and it's no longer under warranty.

-the contact stated that while driving his 2002 land rover discovery into his driveway the hill descent control, abs, traction control warning lights turned on.he took it into the dealer on 01/16/07 and they stated the abs modulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle had an odometer reading of 140000 miles at the time of the failure.

Louis, mo.i have called land rover n.a.no determination as of yet.if this situation had occurred in a non-public location, the results could have been much more dire.

Vehicle had 47,000 miles.engine began running a little rough.brought vehicle to dealer service center.upon examination of engine, technician noted that two spark plug wires had "arched against the valve block. The wires and plugs were damaged by the arching against the valve block and they had to be replaced.designed location placement and quality of spark plug wires should not be such that arching against the valve block may occur.this is an unsafe design and / or mechanical / structural defect and it should be remedied post haste.

My door locks will not open with the remote key leaving exits unavailable for entry by emergency workers in case of a rollover or accident.the left passenger & rear doors stopped working 11/6/03.they finally repaired the passenger door 2/28/04; they couldn't duplicate the rear door.the rear door has opened intermittently since then.2/24/04 now the right front & passenger doors don't open; they said they couldn't duplicate it and they haven't worked since.

While driving, the drive shaft detached from the vehicle while in motion.there was a loss of drive and we could not use the transmission park function to put the car in park.instead we had to use the emergency brake.

Dt*: the contact stated three times the vehicle rolled off on its own while in the park position.the last incident the vehicle knocked the contact over and hit two vehicles.all incidents happened on flat ground.the last time this occurred injuries were sustained.there was damage to the two vehicles.the contact's vehicle insurance company was notified.there is an nhtsa recall, # 00v377000, regarding the power train: automatic transmission.the vehicle vin was not included in the recall.

We were in route to my nieces graduation on route 76which is a 55 mph road. With absolutely no warning the front drive shaft at about 45 mph came apart from the transmission side and caused the front tires to lock up sending myself ,my wife and my nephew careening off the road. We were very lucky, narrowly missing a pole. The truck itself was not damaged by the accident because we stayed on basically grass, but it scared us all. However the truck was damaged by the drive shaft severely, as it tore up everything in its path. The speedo cable, exhaust, and it punched a hole in the top of the transmission destroying it. I have the old drive shaft(what's left of it) and already purchased a new one not realizing at that point that the tranny was destroyed until i replaced it and took a closer look. This truck was purchased new by my mother in law and was passed down to us on our wedding day. I do know a few things about cars and this is one of them, this has to be some kind of design flaw. Drive shafts in my experience do not just blow apart with no warning and with no safety strap either. We all made it out of this ok, but i would so saddened if their were injuries to my family due to a 250 dollar poorly designed part.

I pulled car into a parking place, turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition without realizing the car was in "drive."when i returned, the car had rolled across the parking lot hitting another vehicle.i spoke with the lr dealership who confirmed this was not possible and was accused of leaving the car in "neutral."i tested this theory to find that i could remove the key from the ignition in any gear.the lr representative advised that a plastic part in the steering column occasionally breaks permitting the key to be removed with the shifter in gears other than "park."i was advised to make sure to use the emergency brake until i sell the car.

Consumer parked vehicle, took keys out of the ignition, and got out of vehicle. The vehicle rolled down a hill and crashed a retaining wall without anyone being in the vehicle. The dealership replaced theenter transmission shift lock system. Ph

While attempting to park in a parking lot, my wife applied the brakes, which caused our 2001 land rover discovery ii to suddenly accelerate. The harder she pushed, the more it accelerated.fortunately, she hit a concrete encased light standard before hitting anyone or another vehicle.she was not hurt, although very traumatized, but the vehicle hit so hard, it crumpled the whole front end, effectively totaling the vehicle.i was dismayed to see the number of land rover sudden acceleration incidents when i googled it.it certainly appears there is a design flaw which has not been successfully resolved thru any recall efforts by land rover.i intend to pursue legal recourse.

Consumer wanted to back vehicle up 3-4 feet, when he applied brakes, there was a rattling sound from abs system and pedal went to the floor.vehicle hit another vehicle. Brakes had failed the same way twice before. Damage to both vehicles was 4000 dollars. Recall 02v02200 repairs were done before this accident. Since reporting the previous, the vehicles brakes failed again.consumer put foot on the brake so he could shift gears.the vehicle started to roll forward while brakes were depressed.consumer placed car in park and pumped brakes.the brakes were operable after that.*jg

Brake pedal low when pushed for first time.pedal will pump up to where i would consider it a good brake pedal.pedal will also creep down with pressure being held, however brake warning light does not light.took to dealer twice for this complaint and they said it was normalno failures yet, but waiting!

The vehicle had an odometer reading of 140000 miles at the time of the failure.

The contact owns a 2001 land rover discovery ii.the abs lights illuminated, which indicated that they were not engaged.the dealer stated that the hill descent pcs lights were illuminated, making the abs in the vehicle useless.the failure mileage was 57,000 and current mileage is 58,000. Updated 06/23/08

I was driving my land rover discovery ii on a parking lot and was about to park, as i turned the wheel to get to the parking space i applied the brake, which became hard as a rock and the vehicle didn't slow down, i crashed into the vehicle that was parked on the other side of the parking space.prior to the accident i had , what is know in land rover forum as the 3 amigo lights, which are the t/c, h/d and abs light that are on at the same time. The brakes completely failed, again the pedal was hard as a rock and couldn't be pushed down.

Abs/ tc/ hill descent light elumination, (3 amigo lights), would indicate there is an abs failure, when taking vehicle to dealer seems to be common occurance with vehilce and can range from abs modulator failure to a sensor. However in my case it was a sensor, or a part (harness overlay) that needs to be installed. While the lights are elluminated, the traction control and the hill decent features of the vehicle do not function, which when in my opinion the traction control could have an adverse effect on the way the abs could funciton or traction on slick surfaces. Have not had the item repaired as of today's date. Dealer will not warranty the repair if after market brake pads are used and installed recently.

We purchased a 01 land rover discovery in august of 2004 from land rover of austin, tx. The vehicle was appraised by usaa and purchased with the assumption that the vehicle had a clean history report. On 12/11/07, we went to carmax and had the car appraised as a trade-in and the vehicle was appraised for $1,700. This was because before we purchased the vehicle it was declared a lemon in the state of california. Then it was shipped to texas and sold here as a clean vehicle. The lemon status was not disclosed to us or usaa at the time of purchase. Now we owe $14,000 more than the car is worth. We are having to file a lawsuit against land rover for punitive damages due to non-disclosure and misinformation.

Vehicle was parked outside my home. Keys were inside house. Daughter returns home to tell me my car is in neighbors yard. Upon investigation it seems my gears could be moved without key in ignition and my keys could be removed in any gear selected. My vehicle was not safely in park, maybe r! my vehicle ran down the hill, crossed the road and rested under my neighbors tree, smashed to pulp. Manual says keys cannot be removed unless in park. Not so. I have video proof and witnesses to problem. Dealer examined vehicle and found coins under the gear mount that they say caused the problem. If so there is a major flaw in the mounting that would allow coins to enter the housing. This was a loaner vehicle i purchased from lr. I dont keep coins on my gear tray. Lr na state it is not a manufacturing defect as the coins were american not english.it is human error rather than a faulty mount. I disagree. People could have been killed. I was told to use my parking brake at all times. The dealers lot show none with their parking brake on. I could slide coins under the gear mount of some vehicles that were left open. I went on line to speak to mechanics. Others have seen this flaw. Lr should act quicker to investigate. They told me to activate my insurance, my deductible and rent a car as they dont feel responsible, as yet , if at all. I disagree, have proof and am appealing for safety sake that this flaw is rectified and lr act responsibly. It took the lr rep 1 week to contact my dealer, and 1 week later i am still at the no clue stage with lr. Shocked, angry and disappointed with lr reaction. Other owners beware and contact your dealer for your kids sake. Mr

The contact owns a 2001 land rover discovery ii. While driving at50-55 mph, the vehicle began to shake abnormally. The contact applied the brakes and the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact attempted to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes but to no avail. The vehicle crashed into a cement barrier. The vehicle did not stop but proceeded to accelerate across two lanes and crash into a guardrail. The vehicle was spun rapidly and stopped while facing oncoming traffic. Three passengers were injured and sustained wrist, ankle, neck, head and back injuries as well as whiplash. A police report was available. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact was able to locate a recall for the failure but did not confirm if her vehicle was included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

2001 land rover discovery ii. Consumer writes in regards to possible unintended acceleration *tgwthe consumer stated he took his vehicle to the car wash. As the vehicle was exiting the automatic car wash tunnel, a young man entered the vehicle, started the engine and according to him, it suddenly accelerated and rear ended another customer's vehicle.the manager at the car wash informed the consumer a recall had been issued regarding sudden acceleration.when the consumer contacted land rover, he was informed no recall or service bulletin had been issued with respect to his particular vehicle.

The contact owns a 2001 land rover discovery ii. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle erroneously accelerated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the throttle cable was replaced but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 02v028000 (vehicle speed control). The failure mileage was 120,000.

On my 2001 land rover discovery ii my gas pedal would get stuck, especially when first turning the car on.sometimes i would press on the gas pedal and and i'd have to press doubly hard to get the car to move, of course resulting in a bigger forward surge than i expected which is dangerous.sometimes i would just tap on the gas pedal and it would surge forward on its own.this reminded me very much of the major recall a dozen or so years ago of the audi cars that had a similar problem.when i brought it to the dealer, i had to pay $89.00 to fix it.they said that yes they know about the problem--the throttle gets dirt in it and backed up and clogged so they have to clean it out.in fact, the service person said, it is so common a problem that he then picked up a throttle on the table, and said they keep this throttle here on display in the showroom to show customers how it gets stuck.although i fixed this problem on march 15, 2004, this incident always bothered me.i feel that the manufacturer knows of this problem which can be quite dangerous and that the problem is actually frequent enough that they have a model on display to warrant it a recall.

When attempting to apply the brake pedal consumer is actually depressingaccelerator pedal atsame time.consumer feels thatbrake pedal andaccelerator pedal are too close which is causing pedal misapplication.

I have had to replace the windshield twice within the last four years because of a crack which develops from the point where the rear view mirror attaches to the window. A 12 to 15 inch vertical crack has developed either during or after the vehicle has been washed.the vehicle has only been used for commuting purposes, not off roading.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph, the windshield wiper motor stopped functioning while the wipers were in the upright position.the vehicle was taken to a private repair shop, where the mechanic was unable to even inspect the motor.the vehicle was then taken to a service dealer, who determined that the wiper motor housing was completely rusted.there were no immediate repairs made, however the replacement part was ordered.
