The contact owns a 1999 land rover discovery ii. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed that the the safety restraint light appeared on the dashboard. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure; however, the light remained illuminated. The current mileage was 54,772 and the failure mileage was at 20,421.

1. Major accident happened, but airbag didn't deploy.2. Fortunately we survived, yes of course with some injuries, but what would have happened if we were not that fortunate.in other words there was no safety from that so called good named car.called land rover.3. Want to find out what was wrong in my car.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 70 mph, the brake pedal was applied, but the vehicle did not slow down.there was a beeping noise and the abs light illuminated.the vehicle hit a pole and rolled over 5 times.the driver side front made impact with the pole, but the airbags did not deploy.the seatbelt was worn, but the contact sustained a fractured shoulder, hip, pelvis and 3 ribs.there was a police report taken at the scene.the insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss.there is a nhtsa recall, # 02v022000, regarding the antilock brakes.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

Auto accident which the car we were driving ran into the back of another car.damage to our vehicle was high, medium and low on the front end.total damage amount was $9100, totaling the car.theairbags did not deploy, resulting in injury to the passenger in the front seat.since the car was totaled, there was nothing done to correct the lack of air bag deployment.

The contact owns a 1999 land rover discovery ii.while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact signaled to go left but the vehicle went right.the contact rear ended another vehicle.the air bags failed to deploy and the vehicle was destroyed.the passenger sprained her neck and back.a police report was filed.the current and failure mileages were 114,000.

My vehicle has been seeming very unsafe. Im not sure what's going on.

Without warning vehicleloses power while driving up hill. Atfirst visit mechanic stated that intake manifold needed to be cleaned.30000 miles after, same situation occurred.mechanic indicated that same situation will occur every 30 thousand miles.

Belt broke leaving me stranded, had it replaced then 2 weeks later the new belt broke.had it replaced and again within a couple of weeks it broke again.ordered a new belt from land rover and asked a local mechanic to install it (because i live an hour away from land rover).the mechanic found that one of the pulley was not working corretly so he called land rover and was informed it was a recall.car was at land rover for 6 days before repairs complete.

My 1999 land rover discovery 2 developed a fuel leak on the top of the fuelpump close to the outlet where the fuel flow makes a 90 degree turn before exiting the fuel pump. I noticed the smell of fuel (gasoline ) around the rear of the vehicle while parked.but i had recently filled up the tank and thought it was just some spillage from thefill up. I kept smelling the fumes for several months before i finally watched a youtube video showing how to repair a fuel pump on my vehicle , when i cut the carpet to expose the cover plate and removed the cover plate i noticed a poolof gasoline sitting inside the round part in the center of the top of the fuel pump.i stopped driving other people around in my land rover because of the possibility of ignition , the gas tank itself was covered with gasoline residue this is a very dangerous fuel pump that may kill the occupants of this vehicle were it to ignite for some reason.i think this fuel pump should be recalled and redesigned to add strength to thetop of the fuel pump. A few more cents worth of plastic would solve this issue butthis manufacturer is most likely looking at the resale value of these parts as are all manufacturers today. I bought this land rover thinking that it would be a sturdy vehicle to drive and to feel safer driving , especially while driving my child around in it.also these fuel pumps cost way too much compared to other almost identical fuel pumps made by the same manufacturer and that is why i haven't already fixed it myself.

The contact owns a 1999 land rover discovery ii. While driving at speeds over 70 mph, the vehicle would constantly vibrate excessively. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the front drive shaft would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The mechanic referred the contact to a drive shaft technician. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12e010000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 127,300.

My 1999 land rover discovery ii made a grinding noise and then a loud explosion sound while driving at 70 mph on the interstate.the front drive shaft fell off, busted the catalytic converter and ripped a hole in the fire wall and transmission case.apparently this is a common problem with my year of land rover and nothing is being done to correct this dangerous problem.this is my daughters car and she is very fortunate that the drive shaft did not rip through the floor board or that another car behind her wasn't hit by the parts.

My 1999 land rover discovery made a grinding noise, and came to a screeching halt while driving approximately 10-15 mph. It turned out that the front drive shaft sheared in half.the car was towed to a transmission specialist in my town.when i spoke to both that mechanic as well as my regular mechanic today about the issue, both of them hadother instances of this happening to land rover discoveries all at around 100,000 miles.(my vehicle is at 99,000)both mechanics said this should not be happening at 100,000 miles, and it can be a severe problem, especially at higher speeds (in one of the other instances the shaft ripped through the floorboards and transmission case = over $4500 in damage)i spoke to both my dealer (paramus, nj and someone in the hq - mahwah, nj) and both stated unless the problem is covered by a recall, they consider it the customers responsibility.i am not looking for money - my repair is about $1200.what i would like is for land rover to at the very least to send a letter to owners advising them at around 90,000 - 100,000 miles the joints in the driveshaft be accessed to avoid a major issue.the town i live in has approx 6,000 people, and already 4 incidents of the exact same issue have occurred.i am worried that our older models are now reaching the 100,000 mile mark, and this issue will continue with newer models as the miles add up.both mechanics have said this can be a serious issue at higher speeds, thankfully my situation did not turn out that badly, but i am upset that land rover knows about this issue, and will not do anything to avoid it in the future.i am willing to do whatever research is needed to help solve this oversight, and get the word spread to others.

1999 landrover discover ii; owned car since new; fall 2007, traveling on highway, front drive shaft broke loose, damaged catalytic converter, transmission case; resulted in loss of control of vehicle, narrowly avoided accident; replace transmission and drive shaft--occurred at approximately 140,000 miles; front universal joints again showing wear, making noise at speed--plan to replace, but given experience with other vehicles; appears landrover has a design or quality problem with the front drive shaft/universal joint.

The contact owns a 1999 land rover discovery ii. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the drive shaft disconnected from the vehicle causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle momentarily. The contact was able to merge to the side of the road. The vehicle was then towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic informed the contact that the entire drive shaft needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 12e010000 (powertrain:driveline:driveshaft). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 106,589. Updated 3/11/13 updated 03/19/13

Vehicle with under 54,000 miles was making loud noises and vibrating when driving becoming difficult to handle.major failure in the drivetrain rendered the vehicle non drivable.part that failed was transfer boxpaid dealer around $2,500 to have the box replaced and have the vehicle made drivable.i have the old part.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20 mph there was a very loud popping and grinding sound.the contact stopped the vehicle and noticed the driveshaft hanging down.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined the double cardan joint that held the driveshaft fractured. The dealership has been informed.

Ltr fm steven johnson (ok) owner of a 1999 land rover discovery reporting mechanical failure of the driveline and the universal joint, defective vehicle reply to the tulsa district ofc.*mrthe driveline failed prematurelybecause of a non serviceable universal joint.

While driving driver's side seat heater burnt a hole into the seat. Driver sustained minor burn injuries.

Normal driving in summer when my 1999 land rover discovery ii's abs and traction control warning lights illuminated and stayed on.two days later those lights were joined by the hill decent warning light as well.i took it to my local mechanic who did not have the proper tool to diagnose the problem - brake system was bled but the lights still remain.i have an appointment w/the dealer next month but until then i have no use of the abs system which controls several functions on the vehicle. I have had the abs recall work performed on my land rover during the summer of 1993, i don't know if this is related to that recall or not.

Under normal driving conditions all three lights (traction control, abs, downhill) lights up.it happens even with suvs with very low miles. Bleeding the brakes and cleaning the connector or replacing the sensors doesn't make any difference. There is fault in the abs modulator design and there should be recall on this item.

I recently bought a land rover discovery 2 (1999 model - 75,000 mi.).my abs brake light, hill decent light, and traction control lights keep coming on intermittently.i have read hundreds of complaints on this issue online.apparently the 3 items (abs, hill decent, and traction control) are all interconnected items - generally called three amigo problem online.the major concern is that the abs does not work and the brake pedal will sometimes go to the floor, brakes shutter and on occasion barely engage at all.i have almost wrecked the vehicle on a couple of occasions.i have no choice but to drive my car.i can't afford the $3500 the land rover dealer wants to fix this design flaw.i can't get rid of the vehicle because nobody wants to buy or trade for a car with all these warning lights on.again, if you look online you will see that this is a land rover design flaw and that almost every one of theses vehicles is affected.land rover claims it is from abuse or lack of maintaining this "wearable item."if this was really the case, would thousands of people, with mileage ranging from new to hundreds of thousands of miles, have the same problem?

I have a 1999 discovery ii. The abs warning lights on the dash have always been on; nicknamed as you might already know "the three amigos" by thousands of land rover owners.the three amigos refers to the three warning lights on dashboard: abs, tc-traction control, downhill descent.i was told by the local dealer in encino, ca it was the abs modulator.they didn't put it on paper, but they said verbally if you don't get the "abs modulator replaced, you will have brake failure.yet, land rover won't recall it.tens of thousands of people have complained about the "three amigos", caused by the abs modulator.this is not an isolated case.next time you drive by a 1999 land rover, look on their dashboard, and you will see 3 warning lights on.land rover, needs to recall this, and replace the abs modulator.

The abs/hdc/tclights came on in my 1999 land rover discovery ii. The abs functions are inoperative and sometimes while braking, the brake pedal while being pushed goes almost to the floor and the car will eventually stop. This is a major problem i hear that keep arising on these land rovers. I belong to a forum and have already read at least 50 people that have this problem. This site is www.discoweb.org. Also, this problem seems to be on just about every other land rover forum out there.

The vehicle has been driven daily back and forth to work with no major incident but the stopping distance has seemed to increase abs, traction control and hill descent lights come on and turn off intermittently causing the abs and traction control systems to work only when they want to the brakes are in good condition with more than half pad thickness.

Abs failure almost caused the vehicle to wreck, several times. Failure has occurred on several occasions, once in the last 4 months ($800) and now again,i have spent $$ to fix the hdc, tc, abs lights that keep coming on and causing the abs system to stop working. The abs modulator on 99 lr disco ii's i found out is defective, later models have shuttle valves that do not stick. Lr will not replace it, and the part is $1,800. I'm tired of throwing money at a truck we spent over $50k to purchase, and cannot use!

Dt:1999 land rover discovery series 2.the consumer stated that the wheel speed sensor for the abs unit showed a default which disabled the abs.the consumer tookthe vehicle to dealership, and they would not use the original parts to replacethe wheel speed sensor.they have manufactured three different parts.this only happened on the passenger's side front wheel speed sensor.this has been fixed three times.the manufacturer stated that the problem was not a defect in manufacturing.this problem had been occurring for six months to a year, the consumer was not sure of the date.(11/17/05)*sc

Beginning at 50,100 miles, abs, hill descent and traction control warnings went off.vehicle was stopped in regular traffic, no unusual weather or driving conditions.dealer replaced 3 abs sensors and reset ecu codes.200 yards after leaving shop, warning lights and chimes returned.dealer attempted remedial work - error indicated stuck valve in abs pump - to no avail.codes were re-set, two days later turning left, warnings and chimes returned.land rover indicated that abs pump needs replacing is the only remedy (parts ~$2,000).web search indicated that this is a very common issue with 99 discovery owners.original recall work was done years ago to strengthen abs housing. Should abs fail at only 50,000 miles?been driving without abs since fourth time.

1999 land rover discovery series iithe abs modulator unit on these vehicles needs to be recalled.the vehicle can suddenly lose its abs capability as well traction control.this has been a well documented fault in these vehicles.please issue a recall so customer's can feel assured.

In nov of 2007, brakes failed at slow speeds causing a low speed crash, still expensive damage.abs and tc lights came on.fixed was told that it was failure of brake booster.less than three thousand miles later happened again and now abs, tc and downhill warning light is on.is so common that it has a nickname. "the three amigos"you can search "three amigo's + landrover" on google and find hundreds of people who have had the same issue.when this happens abs is not functioning and stopping is not normal.this is a huge concern and i believe is connected to the 2 brake recalls already.this needs be recalled and creates un-safe driving.

Periodically the abs, traction control & hill descent lights come on.dealership indicates diagnostic codes reveal the shuttle valve inside the abs modulator is faulty and should be replaced.

During my commute i noticed a rattle coming from the rear of my vehicle.upon inspection i found that the shock mount on the rear right side had seperated from the frame of the vehicle.there is a hole in the frame where the shock mount was welded.i brought the vehicle to land rover alexandria.the service manager and a whole group of technicians expressed complete amazement when they saw the damage.nobody could figure out how this happened.this is an accident free vehicle with a good service history through land rover.the original explanation i was given said that there must have been a bad weld or defect in manufacturing. I was insured that my frame is incredibly strong and this should not have happened.a field technician and regional rep were brought out.land rover has informed me that my vehicle has not been serviced properly and they can not fix this problem for me.they have not record of the vehicle being regularly serviced.i offered to fax details from land rover denver east, land rover richmond, and land rover alexandria.these were the servicing facilities.this could potentially have been a very dangerous situation.land rover has informed also that i must replace my frame.

My wife started vehicle in garage (engine cold).she placed in reverse and started backing into driveway.vehicle suddenly lunged backward, engine racing.my wife tried unsuccessfully to stop the car with the brakes, but the vehicle was accelerating too rapidly.just before she ran out of driveway, she placed the transmission in park and shut off the engine.land rover brought in a technician who kept the car two days, running tests.they returned the car to us having adjusted something on the brakes to make sure they were working properly (which they already were).they told us they were unable to find any problem that could have caused the sudden acceleration.we were afraid to continue driving it if they couldn't find the problem.we called land rover north america and complained.we were told that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and said the vehicle was not eligible for buy-back.we then talked to the local dealer and sold the vehicle to them, at a much lower price than we could have if we had been willing to sell it ourselves to an individual.please note:our neighbor saw and heard the vehicle when it lunged backward; he said it sounded like the engine was revved up high and he saw a cloud of black smoke come out of the tailpipe.

On the evening of march 16th, my vehicle experienced an episode of sudden acceleration.the event occurred leaving a ski area (approx 9,000 feet elevation)on a two lane road with an average 6% grade.the vehicle was parked in the late afternoon with temperatures approximately 50 degrees and was parked until 7:30 that evening when the air temperature had dropped to about 34 degrees. I started the vehicle as normal and proceeded to leave the resort parking lot.as i crested the hill to the main road, the engine began accelerating (rpm above 4,000).i lifted my foot to make sure that i was not inadvertently stepping on the accelerator and the vehicle surged forward.i had great difficulty trying to slow the vehicle using the brakes. I was able to slow the car enough to jolt the transmission into park to stop the vehicle.the engine revs climbed above 5,000 as i shut the motor off.i restarted the vehicle in a few moments and it behaved normally in the rather nervous 12 mile trip down the canyon.since the single episode, it has behaved normally.haven't gotten it to the service center as of march 17th.absolutely terrifying with my children in the car.

While accelerating gas pedal sticks when pressed.consumer has to slam on gas pedal to get it undone.
