I hit a patch of ice and rikashaded off a guard rail flew across the highway was tbones by another vehicle and went into the ditch. My airbags did not deploy at all causing bruising and problems with the rods in my back.
After having an upgrade to the system our car now goes into limp mode.they have changed several parts and $4,000.00 later they still can not fix the problem.they just keep charging us for different parts and our car still goes into limp mode even though they have said they have fixed it.one day the car will run fine and the next we will be driving and cannot go over 40 miles per hour no matter how hard you are hitting the gas.several hours later the check engine light will come on but according to kia it has nothing to do with limp mode and all of these parts have already been replaced.
My 2013 sportage continues to stall/shut down while driving at a high rate of speed.this is very scary.had it towed dealership. Is there a recall?
My 2013 kia sportage caught fire while on the interstatethe gas pedal didnt work i pulled over and the car was smoking because it was on fire
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 5 mph, the contact smelled a burning odor and flames erupted under the driver seat. The contact placed the vehicle in park and exited. The fire department extinguished the fire. The contact was uninjured, but was transported to the hospital. The contact notified the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.
Car shuts down randomly while driving, random electrical system lights illuminate on the dash while driving and stay lit after stopped, bluetooth won't connect and won't allow you to press the buttons to connect. This is very dangerous. Started at about 37,000 miles, february 2017 and is continually happening randomly.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that the low beam and high beam headlights shorted out without warning. The contact experienced the short in the lights during inclement weather (a downpour) and was uncertain if wires had been affected as well or any other components. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.
I have had this vehicle less than 1 year. I have already bought 3 batteries due to something continuously draining battery power causing vehicle not to start. Upon taking to dealership for testing, i am told battery/alternator operates fine and they will charge about 85/hour to test fuses to see what else could be the problem. Approximately 3/23/3018, my radio shorted out. It is not functioning at all, cannot use radio at allnor bluetooth connectivity control. Now the odometer resets to 0 every time i turn the car on, the automatic locks don't work and tpm stays lit no matter what the actual tpm is. . i am so frustrated at this point as this is a new vehicle to me, i'm paying a note on a car that seems to be falling apart.
While driving at 65mph my kia sportage went dead. I pulled over onto the side of the road. I tried to start it again but it would not start. After that, smoke started coming out from under the hood. The kia was towed to the kia dealership and checked by mechanics, who said that the rod bearing went bad and it seized the engine. The starter was also fried in the process.kia agreed to replace the parts but would not agree to pay the approximately $2500 labor cost. The vehicle still sits at the dealership awaiting repair. It's been over 2 months now. I plan to pursue having kia pay for the labor as well. I now owe $7000 on a car that will not run.
I was on the interstate driving around 70 miles per hour my car died as in stopped in front of a semi! my car has been serviced regularly and had no problems -nothing-no noise it just died.we are lucky i was not killed.car was towed to cookeville kia they said it was internal engine failure possible rod bearing.he told us it would cost around $7000 to fix.i still owe 4000 on my piece of crap of a car that only had 130,000miles on it.i have had a few nightmares from the ordeal and in general, i'm kinda scared to drive even a few days later.i am so disappointed i was told it's not under recall but however i keep seeing the same year and car on all kind of websites with the same problem.the only thing good about this situation is that my children were not in the car with me.i will never purchase another kia! The design of the ignition key is faulty. This vehicle only starts with a proximity interface between the interior starter button and the remote key which is attached to a manual key for the doors. The manual door key attaches to a key ring and the expensive reomte key attaches to the manual key. On 5 different ocasions while walking or exiting my car the remote key has seperated from the manual key and fallen to the ground. I have been lucky and been aware of this when it has happened. This could easliy leave me stranded and in danger due to this design. The key ring holder should be attached the remote device and not the manual key. The dealer offered no solution.
About 3 months ago my 2013 kia sportage started acting up as far as the air conditioner goes. It intermittently works. If i am stopped at a red light or stop sign the car will blow hot air. When driving it will not blow cold air unless i'm going at least 60 mph. Living in florida this is horrible. I have taken to the dealership several times for them to tell me it's fine. They "test drive" it to see and supposedly the tstat they put in the car said it was blowing air 63 degrees. They wanted to charge me $110 for a diagnostic fee. Luckily the mechanic understood where i was coming from and didn't end up paying. Thenas soon as i left it wasn't working.i then today take it back to the same dealership and they tell me the compressor is bad and it needs to be replaced! i have read where several others are having this same issue.
I was out driving my car one day and the window switch started acting up,the radio shut off, the ac compressor and the radiator fan stopped working at the same time while driving in motion.
On june 26, car parked in shopping mall parking lot and car caught on fire (under hood) while i was at work.
Remote smart.used to warm vehicle.driving on turnpike 75 miles an hour the vehicle quit abruptly in the passing lane.all interior systems stopped. Able to guide to median . Turnoff key, place in park.started ignition.vehicle started able to drive.previous time after using remote vehicle stopped backing out of driveway. Previous time stopped on residential street.same issue.also, one occurrence vehicle would not stop running after using remote start.
Whenever the roads are damp or wet and i am at a stop when i start to go and give it a little gas to move its esc sensor goes on and i need to get control of it. I feel it is dangerous for me to pull out on a highway because of the hesitation. It happens at a stop sign also or a driveway that has gravel and i do not have a heavy foot. This has been happening for almost 1 year ago went to dealer on 3/5/18 and was told i needed an alignment had it done still have the problem please help me to find out what this is thank you
The car stopped working without warning in the middle of the road. No lights, smoke etc...it just shot off and did not start again. We were lucky it was a sunday, traffic was light, and no other cars were immediately behind.i towed it to a mechanic and was told the engine stalled. The car has 79 k miles and has had oil changes as it should. I am being told by kia this is not part of the existing engine recall, that i am a second owner (i bought it with 23,000 miles in 2016 as a certified pre-owned), yet what happened to my car is the same as described by other kia owners whose cars were under recall.

Was driving home alone from louisiana to mississippi and passed a car and car dies and all dash lights come on so i pulled over and turned off car and sat for a few minutes. I turned car back on and no dash lights came on and didn't hear any noise to indicate anything was wrong with vehicle so i continued on my trip being i was alone and in a rural area. Car ran normal for about 30 miles and car started slowing down to where there was no power and finally wouldn't go. Note: no engine lights came on at that time.had it towed to my home (3) hours away, and my mechanic said the bearing are ruined and there's metal shavings in the oil and the oil has a burnt smell to it. I had oil changed regularly and that oil change had about 600 miles on it.
While i was driving ina highway my engine lost power, the car suddenly stopped, then i tried to start it but the engine did not turn. I was worried about an accident happening so i had to push the car off road. The mechanic found damage at the crank shift pistol #3
I have had my vehicle looked at numerous times since i bought it 3 years ago. There is a odd thumping/humming like sound coming from under the hood or axle area, while driving, at any speed. Nothing has been found. My vehicle shakes occasionally while driving over 45 mph. My air pressure light continues to be on constantly, even after shelling out the money to have the sensors replaced. I always feel like i have flat tires, although they seem fine when i check them. I am concerned for my safety,my children and other drivers on the road while i am driving. I have searched numerous times for recalls and found nothing for my vin. However, i was told by a dealer that there was a recall for safety campaign (some underbody addl anti-corrosion: sl). I have had my radio head unit replaced as it was glitching when using backup camera. The radio stopped playing through the speakers, although it still showed i had full control over the volume and toggling stations. My phone would connect via bluetooth but i was unable to use it. I feel my vehicle is part of many recalls that have previously affected and are currently affecting many kia's and would greatly appreciate it if it can be added to the list so i can have a safe vehicle to drive around for my family. Below i put my last service date as when it started happening, again it happened just shortly after i bought the vehicle in 2016.
Driving on the highway when i heard a big boom. Smoke began pouring out of the hood. When i pulled over and opened the hood there was oil leaking and a small fire. Towed to the dealership where i was told entire engine needed to be replaced.
I was driving my vehicle on cruise control at 77 mph on i-95 with my entire family. The engine just shut off and the engine light came on along with all of the other lights on the dashboard. We had to try to pull over without causing an accident and make it to the side of the highway in which we could safely wait for help. The kia dealership in st. Augustine (family kia) did not acknowledge the tsb pi1803y/z (rev4) or offer this to me. I believe that kia should be concerned about keeping the consumers feeling safe in their vehicles and give us a reason to recommend the kia brand. There are several complaints online about this issue. Kia needs to make it right for me and for other kia consumers.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 65 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise. The contact parked the vehicle, exited, and noticed oil leaking from the front of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to a hotel parking lot. The contact called garden grove kia (located at 13731 harbor blvd, garden grove, ca 92843, (888) 992-1833) and informed them of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 89,000. The vin was unknown.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While the contact's wife was driving at an unknown speed, she heard a loud popping sound under the hood. The vehicle was driven home. The contact looked under the hood and noticed oil all over the engine and under the vehicle. The contact noticed an oil trail all the way from where the popping sound was first heard to the front of his house. The dealer and the manufacturer had not been contacted. The contact researched online and found numerous failures with the kia sportage. The contact noticed that the manufacturer had issued an extended warranty of up to 100,000 miles regarding loose particles in the engine when the vehicle was built that could cause a complete failure. The failure mileage was 71,000.
My husband and i were getting off the interstate onto a ramp and the car shut off while driving without any warning and we put it in park and turned it off and it wouldn't crank back up and when we lifted the hood the engine was smoking. I previously taken my car to the dealership where they said they had to re program it because it was jolting coward while driving and this was very dangerous and almost caused me to wreck into the back of someone.
Vehicle has 129265 miles, it has always had scheduled oil changes. After driving about 20 miles one day i commented to my husband the car doesn't seem to be running right, lacking power. As we pulled out from the next red light climbing a hill i heard a screeching noise.. We drove about a mile and lost more power and a loud rapping sound was coming from the engine., i pulled over and my husband checked the oil was looked clear and did not smell burnt, coolant level was in normal range but near low mark, no warning indicators came on through this event. I tried to restart the car but it would not turn over, i called for a tow, by the time my son got there about 90 minutes later the car did restart, the rapping in motor sounded like it was at the bottom of the engine.
My 2013 kia sportage caught fire while on the interstatethe gas pedal didnt work i pulled over and the car was smoking because it was on fire
Engine failure while driving on the highway at 60 mph. The engine started making rattling noise and all of the lights flashed and the engine died. After moving to the side of the road the engine would not restart. It was towed to a dealer who said the engine had to be replaced. This car has had oil changes every 3000 miles and only has 83000 miles on it. The dealer will replace the engine with a used engine with 68000 miles for $6300. I am concerned that the replacement engine will have the same problem. There was a recall on similar engines but this one was not included. The symptoms seem to be the same as the recall.
September of this year my daughter was driving 70mph on i-80 with 3 friends and 2 dogs when the engine made loud popping noises and quit, luckily for all she was in the right hand lane and immediately pulled over, if not she would have probably stopped in the middle of the interstate. We had the car towed to our mechanic who informed us that the engine had seized and suggested i call kia and check for recalls, i did and was told there were no engine related recalls for that vin, our mechanic then contacted the kia dealer he works with to order a new engine and was told that there was a waiting list and would add our name, we are still waiting and now realize that the shortage is due to kia's recall "sc147" which for some reason includes all but this vin. Same engine, same car, same problem but not on the recall. Our mechanic has all the records of preventive maintenance and scheduled oil changes that should have prevented any engine problems.
Vehicle engine caught fire during use
While driving on interstate car started to loose speed and slight jerking i pulled over to side of road . Car would not restart.someone gave me a jump starti was able to drive about 1 mile than car stopped started to smoke than it had to be towed the carwill not do anything just sitting in driveway
The engine seized, a rod broke and pierced engine while driving. Kia has several recalls on their vehicles for this but mine wasn't recalled and it is the same problem as those recalled. This could of caused a serious accident had it been on the highway or interstate but i happened to be in neighborhood.
While driving at 40 mph on 4800 south street in salt lake city, utah the engine shut down. I pulled over immediately. I could not turn the engine over with the starter or any other means. It was towed into the kia dealer and i have been told the engine is seized up and has to be replaced. The dealer has told me this has been a problem with some of these 2013 model years. Kia has said this particular car is not on their recall list. If you look online the description of the problem of cars with a recall is exactly what happened here. I belive this is a real problem with this particular engine and kia is not standing behind it.
Was driving my car on a highway when it started making a terrible, metal-on-mental noise in the engine. At first it was a little noise and as i kept driving it got more persistent so i pulled over before anything could get worse. Took it in to the shop and they said metal got mixed in the oil and caused damage internally within the engine. So now it needs a whole new one.
Vehicle has 111,000 miles and main engine bearing going out. Car was in motion when it started making a bad sound. This is the exact problem that the kia has had a massive recall on but for some reason my vehicle based on the vin is not included. I have contacted kia consumer affairs and after more than a week have been told that there is no action that they will take. I was told that at my expense the dealer could tear down the engine and see if metal was blocking oil ports and they might revisit (not knowing if they would take any action then ?) this car has been maintained correctly and is in good shape other that a defective kia engine. On top of all this,if i wanted to replace the engine there are none available. Dealership said could get a$5400 used engine with more miles than mine - then still possibly with the same problem. Kia was forced into the recall they did initiate and are not standing behind their vehicles. The government should protect consumers from bad players especially on such a major purchase as a vehicle. Stuck with an unoperable and unrepairble vehicle.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle experienced catastrophic engine failure and the vehicle stalled. In addition, the oil, engine, and various other warning indicators and gauges illuminated and flickered. The contact was able to coast the vehicle off to the side of the road, but it could not be restarted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (commonwealth kia, 2 commonwealth dr, lawrence, ma 01841, 978-683-5000), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling), although the dealer indicated that the failures were the same. The manufacturer expected the dealer to replace the part and repair the vehicle. The vehicle was also excluded from nhtsa action number: rq17003 (engine). The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Metal in my motor. Extended warranty expired 800 miles ago and kia, the fox kia dealership, nor the warranty company, protective asset protection will do anything for me. Ive had the vehicle less than 2.5 yr.
While driving around 50 mph on the highway all lights on the dash came on and vehicle stalled. Was able to coast safelyoff the road but upon starting the vehicle there was a knocking noise in the motor. Drove it on home which was less than 1 mile.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While performing maintenance on the vehicle, the independent mechanic noticed that the upper and lower engine oil pan and seal were leaking oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 19,932.
I bought a kia sportage in 2015, paid cash for this vehicle because everyone raved how these vehicles are so good and dependable, had the vehicle for 3 yrs, and my engine blew. I learned about a recall for several different types of kia's however unfortunately my engine isn't covered under the recall. Which is confusing to me because my engine is the same that's in the optima which is included in the recall just different body style. Right now there are approximately 15 million kia customers that are experiencing this same dilemma. And to find out kia isn't going to help me replace my motor! this is ridiculous there are over 15 million recalls for this issue, and kia knew these motors were bad and still sold the vehicles. For someone who is single like myself and rely on driving something dependable and can't afford something else or the outstanding amount for the repairs, kia leaves me with nothing. Now do i not only have nothing to drive, have to gets rides to work, and try to figure out how to come up with over 5, 000 dollars to fix this issue, i guess it's a merry christmas to me. Thank you kia !!!
Engine lost power and made a terrible noise while driving at 50 mph brought to a reputable mechanic in area and he found metal particles and worn bearings in lower engine checked for recalls and found none had to replace engine at own expense
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while pulling out of a parking lot at 20 mph, the vehicle stalled with the check engine and battery warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the oil was drained and the contact was informed that metal shaving was found in the oil and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Driving typical route on freeway. Car started making a rattling noise. Became slow to accelerate. I took the nearest off ramp. Car stopped accelerating. Oil light came on. All lights came on. Car died. Engine seized. Oil and bits metal covered the inside of hood. Mechanic said something inside the engine broke apart and busted a hole through the engine block. Oil level on dipstick was normal previously and after incident.
Driving down the road my car just shut down had it hauled home then had a mechanic look at it he said my motor was seized lock up he pull my oul pan it is full of metal it has 125000 miles i called kia its not in tje recall it has the 2.4l engine how can 1 be on recall not tje other they tell me they cant help me
On 4/18/2019 i was driving on a narrow 2-lane highway at 55 mph when my vehicle suddenly lost power and would not restart. I had the vehicle towed to a kia dealership and i was told the engine had failed and needed to be replaced at a cost of $8,800. The engine had 83,000 miles on it.
Sudden engine knocking. Engine needs replacing. Recall placed for my vehicle type but not my specific vehicle.
As i was driving oninterstate 20, car began knocking. Pulled over to a gas station to check the oil (had enough oil) and add more, just to be on the safe side. Got back on the interstate and car began knocking louder then without warning car shut off completely. Towed it to a local kia dealership where they determined the bearings were bad and declined to help. Car has 110000 miles and gets routine oil changes. There was no prior warning; check engine light, oil light, etc.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving, the vehicle stalled without warning, but was able to restart. The contact stated that the failure recurred while traveling up a hill. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the contact's residence. The contact also heard a knocking noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
The vehicle was in motion on a highway and suddenly there was a loud banging sound. The oil, brake and engine light came on simultaneously. I pulled to the side of the road and turned the car off. I tried to turn the car back on but it just made a loud noise and would not turn on
While driving down the street, my husband and i noticed a loud knocking noise coming from our kia that was exacerbated by him accelerating. We immediately stopped the car and noticed that hot oil was splashing up on the engine. This kia sportage is a 2013 and only has 90,000 miles. We towed the car to the kia dealership and they said that we blew a rod. This is totally unacceptable considering how old the car is and less than 100,000 miles. Kia is known to have engine issues with the 2011-2014 sportage engines. I believe this should be investigated and should be covered by kia warranty.
Engine seized while on expressway. Mileage 58k. Change oil 30 days ago. New battery. Call for recall since 2007. Dealer kia in bayamon pr, replied there was no a recall. Just a note but nothing for pr. Called kia and said my vin # is not on that recall. Pr is not included on dealers to change engines like all othery states. Please verify and investigate
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway, turned the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to resume normal operation. The vehicle was towed to kia of irvine (45 oldfield, irvine, ca 92618) where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) as a possible solution to the failure however, the vin was not included. The manufacture was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. An independent mechanic was able to come to the scene and diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called first kia (2081 first st, simi valley, ca 93065, (805) 526-9776) and was informed to bring in the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,042.
Abrupt catastrophic engine failure-i was driving approximately 75 mph on interstate i-80 heading westbound in wyoming at approximately milepost 77. The car suddenly began shaking for about one second and then a large short puff of black smoke. The car then immediately shut off and the oil, engine, and battery warning lights turned on. Luckily i was able to safely pull over to the side of the freeway. The temperature gauge was in the normal range. I got out of the car to inspect what the problem was. I notice a significant amount of engine oil dripping from the engine and that engine oil had sprayed over various parts of the car. I did not try to restart due to the significant amount of oil loss. I was in a remote location with poor cell phone reception. I had to climb up a nearby hill to contact roadside assistance. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest town to spend the night. I then had the vehicle towed to a kia dealership first thing in the morning. After the kia dealership inspected the vehicle, they stated that there was a hole in the engine block and the engine needed to be replace.i had the vehicle serviced regularly with full synthetic oil. I also checked the oil and fuel levels before i left on my trip 4 days earlier and they were all at normal levels and the oil was a normal color.
I was driving on a straight, open 4 lane, divided highway with no problems. All of a sudden the engine started making a knocking noise. The knocking sound got louder so i pulled off the highway and into a gas station parking lot. When i tried to restart it, the engine did not sound like it was running properly. In doing research after having the vehicle towed to my house, i read about kia sportage 2013 recalls for bearings causing engine failure. Checking my vin showed that there were no recalls on my vehicle but i think it might be possible that my engine was one of those affected by the recall mentioned above.
I was driving in the city with my baby in the back seat when i stopped at a red light, when the light turned green i pressed the gas to hear a loud knocking under the hood of my car and my engine stalled in the middle of the intersection. I had the car towed to my local garage who said the engine threw a rod and needed to be replaced, i then towed it to the kia dealership and discussed with consumer affairs the issue. They agreed to replace my engine 'in good faith' stating that this issue is being recalled in over 1 million vehicles of the same make but my 2013 kia sportage does not fall under the recall solely due to the fuel injector that is used on my engine(i have an mfi instead of a gdi) and noted that it has happened in the same exact engine in many of the vehicles. After picking up my car and paying out of pocket for the tows and additional repairs relating to replacing my engine kia has refused to provide reimbursement and also refused to provide my engine with the lifetime warranty and knock detection sensor that the gdi models are receiving and replaced my short block with the same engine. This has now became a class action lawsuit and kia refuses to acknowledge that this is happening in the theta 2 mfi motors as well.
Was driving my car and got a loud knocking noise coming from the engine. There was no warning lights or anything that would make me think anything was wrong till the knocking noise. I brought the car to the dealer and was told i needed a new engine. I had all the regular service done at that dealer. They have had my car for a month now and i still haven't got it back yet. Paying for a rental out of pocket.
Vehicle experienced loss of power while accelerating on the highway and making a dangerous left turn across two lanes of traffic. A knocking noise coming from the engine persisted after this loss of power.the vehicle was immediately taken to the closest kia dealership the following day and diagnosed as having engine bearing failure. Kia currently has a recall (sc-147) for engines demonstrating this type of failure, but we were told that the recall did not extend to the engine in our 2013 kia sportage. The vehicle currently has 109,856 miles on the engine and was in overall good shape and mechanically sound.
I was driving at about 40mph with my 16 month old in the car and heard a dull knocking noice. As i approached a stop light my car stalled and the engine light came on. I turned my engine over again and it started up with the same knocking noice that got louder as i accelerated. I made it up the road to advanced auto who told me i needed it towed as it was likely my engine seizing. Had it towed to my independent mechanic who confirmed a rod had come loose due to bad bearings and that i need a completely new engine. Kia has told me that as a 2nd owner on a non transferable 10yr 100k mike warranty i am not covered also that my vin is not part of the sc147 recall although the same motor in other models of the same years had been recalled along with the other 300ish reports on here. 88k miles regular oil changes maintenance and inspections still owe on my loan and now have to come up with 7k to repair my now 7yr old car.
Driving 65 mph on a major highway. Hear a popping like sound and the car completely stops running. No power, no flashers. Able to pull over without incidence. However this could have been extremely dangerous if it were during rush hour.
Vehicle has approx. 66,000 miles and the engine began knocking and the oil pressure warning light began flashing while driving. Although there is an open recall on many of the kia and hyundai vehicles, we were told this particular model is not part of the recall, even though the engine is exhibiting the same exact symptoms of the recalled engines. Now we are getting the runaround from kia north america, the dealership, and the extended warranty company.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle coasted to the side of the road and shifted into park. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that metal debris was found in the engine. The contact contacted oakes kia (2900 burlington st, north kansas city, mo 64116, (816) 474-2900) and was informed that there was a total engine loss due to metal debris found in the engine which created a hole in the piston. The dealer had not diagnosed nor repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
Similar issue as sp147 for kia. Sportage has similar engine and the same issue. My engine is blown and has some metal shavings.it stalled, would not start. Had it towed to garage where they said code was for the oil control valve. Replaced but still would not run. Removed engine cover and found metal shavings and engine bad.engine is maintained, dealership did oil change a while ago and found nothing.
While parked outside of a supermarket, the engine started rattling, check engine light came.on and car shut off. I towed the vehicle to a kia dealership and was told that the vehocle needed a new engome and that they could not find the engine for me. I called kia customer service and was adviced that my vin is not part any recall. After a lot of online research i keep running into other people's statements who had ecactly the same situation i had, with the exactly the same engine on my car, 2013 kia sportage with a 2.4 l. Engine.since the kia dealership did not want to continue trying to find an engine for me, i towed it to a local mechanic who found metal shavings in the bottom pan, a cracked crankshaft and the connecting rod bearings are noticeably shaved off and scraped. This is the same problem that have been noticed in the other kias with my same engine but that were on the recall. I do not understand how my vin is not one of those.
We believe its part of known recall "sc147", in which kia is aware of theta engine failure rod knock. Vehicle was in motion, stopped to fill tank and knocking began, dropped it off at nearest kia dealer. Next day went in for warranty service and kia motors america, not thr dealer, denied warranty because vehicle was purchased in puerto rico and they claim they cannot see vin # which has nothing to do with warranty. We are the original owners, pr is recognized as united states both through the constitution and jurisprudence under the supreme court of the united states. Kia motors america can confirm via pepe abad kia or motor ambar of pr that we are the original owners and vehicle is under warranty terms.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 55 mph, the contact heard a loud noise under the hood and the engine stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (kemper kia, 300 finderne ave, bridgewater, nj 08807 (732) 469-4500) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall and did not offer any assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

Bought a 2013 kia sportage on july 16, 2021 form holman cadillac in mt laurel, nj 08054. Two days later the check engine light appeared. Took it back to the dealer but they could not fix it. Holman sent it to a kia auto shop. Car has been in the shop for 3 days. We are afraid it could be associated to the engine issues that have plagued the kia vehicles.
I was driving the vehicle and out of nowhere the engine starting making a pinging sound and 5 minutes later the car just shut off and wouldn't turn back on. I had the car towed to my mechanic who advised that the motor was blown, 2 spun rod bearings and the engine seized.
On 12-23-2020, we were coming back home after doing some grocery shopping, i was doing 70 mph on a busy highway, then suddenly heard a loud noise and car stall after that without any notice, which was pretty scary especially when driving on a fat highway and having a toddler in the back, all 3 lights came on the dash (oil, battery, check engine). Car didn't want to start after that, so i called a friend to help us get home since it was only a mile away from where we live. However, the car started an hour later but didn't drive more than 5 seconds and stalled again. I have it towed to my mechanic the next day. He inspected and didn't see anything wrong. He drove it for two days and nothing. Two weeks later after going on a trip i started hearing this tapping noise at 2000 rpm, which is coming from the engine. The car isn't leaking any oil, and it has only 99k miles, been changing oil on time, and all necessary filters.at the moment of writing this complain, no check engine light is on.
Engine failed at app. 114,770 miles while in motion on a highway.started with slight tapping sound, progressed to loud knocking sound, progressed to sounding like bowling ball rolling around in engine in a matter of a few miles no engine light or any service lights came onengine needed to be replaced - car has been serviced regularly at the dealer - never had a warning light or oil light there is a recall on this engine for many 2013 sportages but not my cardealer informed me that they replace this particular engine on sportages 10 times a week
When i was driving on the freeway, my engine seized on me. Luckily i was able to glide off to the side without being hit. I contacted the kia corporation which is a horribly ran business. After letting them know i would contact a lawyer if they didn't fix the problem, they decided to replace the engine. Not calling it a recall, though it is doing the exact same thing the recall stated. They are making me pay 3000.00 labor costs to fix my vehicle, and i believe they should be paying for the whole thing! my car has been at the dealership for two months now and still isint fixed!
Car stopped while at a stop light.there was traffic all around.we had it towed.airport kia ([xxx]) states it needs a new engine. They said they could not repair on a recall or product improvement because it had been too long.i spoke with kia corporate and they said there was a software update in april 2021 that was designed to (product improvement) to fix the engine issue.once the software update was done the car would get a 15 year warranty.we did not receive information regarding the update or any other recall notices.we found out only when the engine quit.the car was still tied to the original owner @ kia corporate (per their records)- although they had [xxx] and her address as the registered driver.they did not contact [xxx].neither the dealership or corporate will help us with this issue.the engine replacement will be $6000.00.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My 2013 kia sportage engine light alarmed while driving to work. Immediately after the engine and car began rattling, followed by the engine completely shutting off. I was able to coast to the side of the road out of harms way. This is my wife's car that i use occasionally and normally she would be driving with our two boys in the back. This vehicle has been routinely serviced with no issues at all until today. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who soon informed me that the engine was blown. As i described what happened to him he informed me that a recall for 2013 kia sportages with the same issues happened last year. I contacted kia and was informed that my vehicle was not covered under the recall although it did sound similar. I am very confused at how this is happening to several other people as well with kia not having to own their mistake.
Engine is knockingcommon engine failureall have the same problem?
1st incident engine stalled while driving, noticed rpm's were running to high and automatic trans shifted only when backing off accelerator petal and a "paap" sound was emitted from the engine, engine turned over but failed to start before battery died after 3 turnover, dealer replaced the battery and found no other issues, customer was charged $180.00. But, "over the next 14 days driver noticed engine momentary ran erraticallywithout any pattern, then about 13 days a clacking sound began, and became increasingly louder, vehicle stalled twice when releasing the accelerator petal, after the 2nd stall the check engine light came on, a code p0014 was noted, engine restarted but was making loud clacking sounds, towed to another dealer, stated connecting rod bearing failure resulted in clogging the oil control valve starving the top of the engine of oil. Dealer also stated the timing chain had jumped. Covered by kia warranty a new engine is to be installed at no charge, were hoping, failure occurred at 59,000 miles, oil was changed at regular intervals..
I was driving on the 14 freeway the oil light flashed car stalled out i had the car towed a mechanic looked at it said a baring was thrown and there was a recall & to call the dealership. They said there was a recall but not on my vin number there is nothing else i can do. Everything that happened is exactly what the recall stated how can i get this taken care of i need my car i'm a single mom and disabled
I was driving down a busy highway when i started hearing a loud noise coming from my car. Soon after this, the car stopped working. My three month old daughter was in the car. It was 10:00 pm which makes this highway much more dangerous and was going at high speeds. Was barely able to park the vehicle (thankfully i was on the right lane). I had the vehicle towed to my kia dealer and after checking the vehicle they informed be that i needed a new engine. Even though there is an engine recall for 2013 kia sportage vehicles with the same exact problem, they claimed that my car is not included in the recall. I am now waiting to see if the warranty covers the damage. They want to inspect the engine first. Taking the engine down alone costs $1,000 if the warranty refuses to cover the repairs. My question is: why isn't kia repairing all vehicles with this problem?? why isn't my vin par of the recall?? we could havelost our lives that day, including my 3 month old baby. Kia must be forced to cover the cost of replacing these faulty engines before lives are lost. Us, kia customers, should not be forced to cover the cost ourselves. My vehicle is only 75,000 miles.
I was driving 65mph on the highway during rush hour traffic. My car seemed to be loosing speed. I noticed my dash board had all the warning lights on. I was able to get over three lanes of traffic by coasting my car off the road before it died. I had aaa tow my car to dobbs. They told me it was a bearing rod and i needed engine work. I had it towed to kia where all the maintenance was done on the car. They told me it was the engine also.

The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving approximately 40 mph and approaching a ramp, the vehicle shut down without warning. The vehicle was coasted over to the side of the road and restarted. The check engine and oil indicators illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had blown and needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.
I was driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph. There was a loud cracking noise and my vehicle began to smoke. I immediately pulled over and turned off the vehicle. When i opened the hood i could see some flames in the engine bay. There was a significant amount of oil that had leaked out after pulling over. The car had to be towed to a repair shop. I am still waiting for more information but i have been told by the mechanic that the engine will need to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 40 mph, the contact heard an abnormal clunking noise and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed toallentown kia (2350 lehigh st, allentown, pa 18103, (610) 628-3126) where it was diagnosed that there was bearing wear, metal shavings in the oil, and engine damage. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 13301394. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact stated that the warranty did not transfer to owners. The failure mileage was 58,084.
Engine threw a rod at 124000 miles.issue is same as recalled 2013 2.0 engines.
As i was driving at approximately 40 mph the car began to shake and make a knocking sound. I had to stop at a red light and the shaking of the vehicle continued. As i approached a very busy intersection the engine stop and i was no longer able to accelerate or maintain speed. I managed to make a right turn and coast into an empty lot just far enough that the car was not sticking out into the street. At that time i contacted kia and they sent a tow truck from a towing company unknown to me to have it towed to the closest kia dealership.
Driving on the highway, started making weird ticking noise, started to lose acceleration, vehicle shut off and smoke coming from under the hood. Turner kia says that i no longer have the certified pre-owned warranty(i'm over by less than 1k miles) and wants $129 just to run diagnostics and from looking at this website, there have been many other people with the same issue. Why hasn't this been recalled!?
At 85k miles and after regular maintenance, the engine seized while in stop-and-go traffic. The car accelerated to about 35 mph from about 10 mph and then just died, requiring a new engine. There was no prior indication of any engine issues. The car had just completed a 400 mile round-trip road trip the previous weekend without any issues. We believe this is the same engine issue currently under recall and that the recall should be expanded.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light, the vehicle was making abnormal sounds however, the contact was able to drive the vehicle to her residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
Was driving when there was a loud clanking/rattling from the engine. Attempted to press in gas but would not accelerate. Rolled to a stop and died. Would not start for about a day, then would start for a minute then die. Engine light, oil light, and battery light all came on. The battery was new and the oil was changed at least two days before. Engine light had never been on before
Engine suddenly started making a loud clanking noise and engine light went on as i was driving on the highway. I had to pull over immediately and turn off the car for safety.
7/12/19 while driving about 20 miles an hr picking up speed, i noticed my car was acting a little strange and making some odd noises. My car was driven home and sat until monday when it was taken to the garage. The garage informed my that thursday i would need a new engine. They stated that when they were looking into this issue and searching for a new engine, they discovered its was common problem and couldn't come by an engine for my car. I am absolutely devastated. Single mother working hard everyday. Now i am left with no vehicle. 2013 kia sportage with 124,000 miles the newest car ive ever owned. Bought last year, still owe money on it. Never again. Don't buy this car!!!!!
I was driving my 2013 kia sportage on the freeway and my car just died on me. Was able to pull over and found out by mechanic that my engine had seized . He said i needed to tell kia because of all the recalls they had for 2013 vehicles. My car was not part of the recall.
My 2013 kia sportage with 66,000 miles started to make a loud noise as i was driving the car. I pulled in to a mechanic shop immediately. Mechanic advised engine trouble and recommended to tow the car to the dealer. The dealers is currently holding the car and will advise. His initial thought was the engine needs to be replaced.at 66,000 miles what a big dissapointment.
My family and i were driving on highway 191 by milepost 93 when all of a sudden the engine started making a slight whirling noise and started to lose power.we were ascending a little hill and almost didn't make it up the hill.we had to pull over and get off the road as far as we can.the place where the engine decided to give us problems was near a very dangerous blind spot.as the kia slowed down, a semi almost reared ended us because of the sudden decelerating speed.there was no sudden vibration or anything else out of the ordinary.i had to call the san juan county sheriff's dispatch unit to get some assistance. The sherriff came out and noted that the kia was in a dangerous location and that a tow truck was reroute from moab, ut.when i tried to start the kia to show the sherriff that it was dead, there was a loud knock and the engine died, and hasn't turned on since.since i've owned the kia, there has never been a problem at all.the engine ran smoothly and the rest of the kia was in top top shape.
My 2013 kia sportage has engine failure at 60100 miles. Stalled on freeway twice trying to get it home after hearing a sound in engine. For some reason my kia vin number is not included in the kia engine recall and it is going to cost me thousands to get repaired.
Approximately 2.5 hours into a long highway drive, the vehicle engine began to make additional, unusual noise when travelling up standard hill grades, as if it was having to work harder than normal for a hill of that size.previous drives along this route, or on any other route, no additional noises were heard.shortly after attempting to "take it easy" on a few more hills, the check engine light and other instrument panel lights came on.we immediately turned on the hazard lights and pulled over, and then turned off the engine. We opened the hood and checked the oil level, which was normal.we inspected for debris, loose connections, signs of distress, or other indications of a problem, and found none.we attempted to start the vehicle again, and it would start and then immediately die.further attempts, even while pressing the gas pedal to try and keep the engine going, we're unsuccessful.vehicle was towed to a kia dealership, and after diagnosis, we were informed that the engine had seized.vehicle was at approximately 110,000 miles, and had always been serviced at the same authorized kia service center we purchased it from.there were no prior signs of issues, nor any indication that an engine failure was imminent prior to the event.
I was driving from abilene, texas to san antonio, texas, when coming up a hill, all of a sudden, i hear something pop, and then right after a loud ticking noise.i lost acceleration, and brought it down from 75mph, to about 15-20mph in order to pull over.my car then needed to be towed into fredericksburg, and then was towed to a shop in san antonio, texas.after the shop reviewed what had happened, they said it was a bearing, and that there was a recall for that particular year and model. After calling kia, they said they could not help me, as my vin was not included in that recall; even though the recall (sc147) is for the 2011-2014 kia optima, sorento and the sportage.i was told that it only affected the 2.0l engine, and not my 2.4l engine.this information, along with my vin # needs to be added to the recall, as it is the 'same' issue with all of those other vehicles.kia does not want to help or assist.i asked for someone else, a high supervisor, but was denied.there were no warnings given, or prior symptoms before the failure.i was totally taken by surprise when this happened to me in the middle of no where.
Engine stopped running while driving at 50 mph on a state hyway and car came to sudden stop, car was diagnosed with seized engineand the oil has metal filings in it
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While operating the vehicle, it suddenly stalled and became inoperable. The vehicle was towed to kia of warrington (1425 easton rd, warrington, pa) where it was diagnosed that the engine was severely damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000.
My boyfriend and i wereon my way to gatlinburg for my birthday weekend. Just made it into knoxville when my dashboard lights came on and the engine made a loud knocking noise and stopped. We barely made it to the side of the interstate (the left lane of i-75 in knoxville). My boyfriend stated that the engine just threw a rod. We waited 2 hours for a tow truck with tdot behind us for an hour and 1/2 for that. There was oil all over the road. We finally got towed to the kia closest to us. They ran my vin and stated that isn't part of the recall because my engine isn't the gdi engine. So, even though 2013 kia sportages are all having engine failure without warning in potentially dangerous situations for all of kia's customers, kia is doing nothing about it. My boyfriend works as a mechanic and submitted a pa and it was denied as well. If there are more than 100 customer's having issues with the same engine, then there should be a recall. This looks bad on kia, and it looks bad on the nhtsa for not issuing the recall due to safety. Had any of the numerous 250 complaints i have seen so far not been able to get out of the road, due to no warning, then i'm sure there would be a recall. But it shouldn't have to come to death before a recall is issued.
While driving home going approx. 40 mph on the freeway, the engine out of no where, completely seized up. After pulling over in busy rush our traffic the car was locked up and stopped working. There was no check engine light prior, no heat issues and there has never been any mechanical issues involving my vehicle. I have provided all maintenance documents dating back all the way to 5 years. While there are several recalls involving 2013 kia sportages, even with these exact symptoms, i have been told numerous times mine does not apply.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 65 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the engine. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Peak kia colorado springs (located at 1560 auto mall loop, colorado springs, co 80920, (719) 493-9626) was notified. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,500.
My 2013 kia sportage ex has a failed engine at 50k miles.on july 2nd, 2019 at about 1:15pm i was driving and without any warning i heard a loud sound come from the engine so i immediately pulled over and checked the engine.i saw oil pouring out of the engine block.it was towed to a local kia dealership who confirmed that engine was leaking out of a hole in the engine block.the gentleman from the service department at the local kia dealership stated that the connecting rod broke off the barring and shot out of the engine block.as i did some research this is the exact issue kia has issued recalls for to fix on kia sportage 2011-2013 models and other models as well; however, my vin is not included in their set of recalls. I was told to contact kia consumer affairs because my car is not under warranty because i am not the original owner as i purchased the vehicle from a dealership back in 2014 with 10k miles on it.today is 8/19/19 and i am still waiting for a final answer regarding a good will claim from kia consumer affairs which means i am still with out my car.kia is taking advantage of its customers by not issuing a wider recall regarding their defective engines and forcing its customers to pay for replacement engines.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving approximately 75 mph, a loud clicking noise was coming from the engine compartment prior to the vehicle stalling without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine ceased and needed to be repaired or replaced. Earnhardt kia located at 2121 east bell rd, phoenix, az 85022, and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 86,969.
'takata recall' gasoline smells coming from the oil dipstick when i checked the oil level i could smell gasoline inside my oil , my vehicle was stationed in my driveway under my carport.
I was driving on hwy 100 in fairview,tn and my kia sportage just stop running and i coasted off the hwy in a front yard. I was on a two lane hwy. Very scary had to tow car into a repair shop in fairview but they said found engine locked up and then kia said to have it towed to a dealership in franklin, tn. I have never had this happen ever in any vehicle. Iā€™m 70 years old and need this engine to be paid for. I have two tow cost and a diag. From hall repair shop.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 65 mph on the freeway, the engine seized without warning. The contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road and turned the vehicle off. The vehicle failed to resume normal operation. The insurance company towed the vehicle to the contact's residence where it was then towed to bob moore kia northwest (7340 northwest expy, oklahoma city, ok 73132, (405) 720-3800). The dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 13445594. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
Just before reaching tryon, nc, coming from charleston, sc, we began to hear a distinct knocking noise coming from under the hood, and were unable to accelerate any further than around 55 mph. Eventually the engine failed and we were able to just pull off to the side of the road just yards from where the shoulder ended, and we almost hit a stationary vehicle just in front of us on the shoulder. We were trying to evacuate from the hurricane with my 7 month old granddaughter.. After the engine had cooled, we checked and made sure that my oil was over half full, and it was. A rental place stayed open a few extra hours for us, and we managed to get to our destination three hours away from the incident, because we were in desperate need of somewhere that allowed dogs. On monday, we found out from the mechanic the car had eventually been towed to that the engine was shot. The mechanic let us know that this was an extremely common issue with our make and model, and that we should have had a recall issued for safety measures. While in assembly there was a manufacturing error which would not be noticed unless the driver was going long distance on the highway. There were tiny metal shavings within the engine that blocked the oil from properly circulating through the rod bearings to critical parts of the engine. We contacted corporate, and they told us our car was not listed under the warranty because it was assembled in a different location than the ones recalled. They then told us i had a 60,000 mile warranty instead of a 100,000 mile, which was a flat out lie. We contacted our dealer and they confirmed we had a 100k. Now after collecting all of our service records, the dealership is trying to tell us they will not cover the 7,000 dollar cost because my oil was low, which is another flat out lie. I don't want to make any money off them, i just want my repairs covered.
Takata recall" fuel can not get 25mpgcombined or 21 city never 30 listed on highway 15 to 17 city 19 on the highway the most.i returned a kia sorrento after few months in 2013 a new sorrento for the poor gas not living to the fuel epa iwas inform that i have to drive 5000,to 10000 to get better mpg i had the sorrento for15000 miles and now the sportage have 18000 and the mpg it is so bad. The air condition also very low flow
After 118,000 miles on a well maintained vehicle the 2.4 liter engine in my 2013 kia sportage seized.i was traveling at approximately 25 mph on my way to my mechanic because my check engine light came on when my motor seized and i came to an abrupt stop.
The engine has a loud knocking sound. I turned on my vehicle and when i pressed on the gas i heard a loud knocking sound. I have always been diligent about getting my regular oil changes and services for and have service records for it so thought this was odd. I took it to the kia dealer and was advised it needed a new engine and would cost about $7200, a lot more than what the vehicle is worth. The service department advisor checked the vin on my kia because he said kia sportages had a recall for this same problem, but found out my kia was not part of that recall. After further research, i have found many kia sportage owners are facing the same issue with the same engine that kia recalled on some kia sportages, but not on others. Kia needs to take responsibility for all kia sportages that were sold defective not just some of them.
Engine had a knocking in it.took to a garage and was told engine had failed at 128,000 miles and needs a new engine.called kia and was told not on recall even though two other engines for this year are recalled due to early engine failure.hoping this model engine will soon be on the recall list also.
My wife and i were returning from a trip; traveling at highway speeds. The engine made a weird mechanical noise and after about 10-15 seconds, knocking and rattling noises were coming from the engine. I looked at the dashboard and all my light indicators were turned on. The car stalled out as i was driving. I pulled the car over on the emergency shoulder and turned the engine off. The car never started up again.
Driving back from a short run to do a grocery pick a fire started in the engine compartment of the vehicle burning on the passenger side between the engine and the firewall.
My car was smelling out for about 2 weeks. I took it to a couple different shops and no one could find an issue with the motor. Today my engine seized and my car was towed to a garage. While the car was there the mechanics looks at the engine and could find an issue and then they drained the oil and found metal pieces mixed in. I then looked this up to see if there was a recall and kia did recall 2011-2013 kia sportages for faulty engine building which causes metal pieces to clog your oil flow and seize your engine. Since my car is a 2013 kia sportage i called kia to see if they would fix it since the recall but they said my vin doesn't match the recall and won't assist me.
Around thanksgiving i noticed a knocking/ rattling/ clanking sound under my hood in the engine area, which occasionally increased/decreased when the rpms moved. Due to covid and not traveling i didnt drive it for a few days. I went to the store on 11/30 and the sound was louder and more startling.i had my husband check it when he got home. We noticed recalls on the vehicle but my vin never registered. Because my vehicle is used to transport children, my husband asked me to make an appointment with the dealership asap to have it looked at. I made the appointment for 12/1. While on the highway to get to my appointment the sound progressively got worse - then all lights went on in the dash and the gas stopped working. It was like my vehicle was in neutral when i pressed the gas. It would not start again and the steering wheel was locked.i waited over an hour for a tow truck; on the shoulder of a busy highway, during rush hour. It was dropped at the dealer and we are currently waiting on a report as to whats wrong. We believe it falls in line with the current recalls.
My husband and i were driving from atlanta to huntsville, alabama thus weekend(4/21/18). About 2 hours into our trip the car stalled out. We pulled over and it cranked right back up. Then as we were about 20 minutes from our final destination, the engine started knocking and then seized. We were driving on a four lane highway going about 50mph and this could have easily caused a serious accident. We had it towed to a shop that told us that a rod was thrown and then had it towed to the closest kia dealership where we were told we needed a new engine.. Because i am a second owner the warranty will not cover this. In doing research i have found hundreds of other people who have had the same thing happen to them. I have read people using the exact same word 'sludge' in the engine over and over. I believe kia is hiding a problem and it is unacceptable. A 2013 sportage with less than 80,000 miles on it shouldn't have this kind of engine problem. It has basically totaled the car because the engine is $6000 to replace. We have not done anything to fix it yet as we are looking into our options.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving, an abnormal noise was coming from the engine and the check engine and oil warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to autogroup kia (marginal kennedy, san juan, pr 00920, (787) 333-0122) where it was diagnosed that the engine bearings failed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where the bearings were currently being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,012.
I was driving at 45mph, went into the opposite lane to pass a vehicle and the engine revved into the 7000rpm range, all the lights came on in the dash, and it immediately lost power. I pulled to the side of the road and the engine stopped. I tried to restart the engine and it wouldn't even crank over. No warning lights had come on prior to this and my oil is changed regularly.the engine is now "locked" up. I am reading this has been a frequent problem, but my vehicle vin shows no recalls.this was on a 55mph highway, while passing at approximately 55mph.
Engine failure
My husband was returning home to oregon from the san francisco bay area and was driving 50 mph on the freeway when the car (2013 kia sportage) began making loud knocking noises and immediately lost power. He was in the middle lane of the freeway when it lost power, making it incredibly unsafe and putting him in danger because the people behind him had to slam on their brakes to avoid rear-ending him. It was also very dangerous to try and move the car off of the freeway with other cars going by at 50+ mph. Fortunately, he was able to get the car off the freeway and pulled over whereupon the car died. He tried starting it again and it still had the very loud knocking noise and would not stay on. All of the warning lights on the dash lit up and the check engine light stayed on after he had turned the car off and then back on. After waiting for 3 hours for a tow, the car was finally towed to the closest dealer hilltop kia in richmond ca. My husband had to wait for close to a week to get the dealer to look at the car and once they did, they came back with an $11,000 estimate stating that the car needed the engine replaced, it was out of warranty because the 100,000 mile warranty only applied to the original owner, there was no recall on this car and kia would not replace the engine free of cost. We have learned that the engine in this car has a manufacturer's defect and that kia is not replacing these even though they know it's a defect of their own making. This has been incredibly stressful because the car only had 62,000 miles on it, and we kept up with all of the maintenance requirements. We still owe $3500 on a car that we can't even drive, the lowest we've been quoted to get it running again is $5000 which means that the cost of fixing it is equal to or more than the resale value of the car.
Me and 4 of my friends (all of us are under 19) are returning from a wedding in the dallas area on a stormy evening. We are not from the dallas area so the drive was stressful enough. Im going about 65 mph then my car's acceleration stops working and the check engine and check oil lights come on while we are on an overpass so i am forced to pull over in a little spot in between an exit ramp and the freeway, and luckily we made it there or else we probably would have caused a fatal wreck. We were then forced to sit there for over an hour and a half in the dark without any emergency lights since our battery died also about 10 minutes in, and all of us know someone could easily not see us and hit us. The dealership then told us that the engine was blown, which is odd because our car has under 50,000 miles. Then we find out the 2.0 liter engines have been recalled, and i see no reason why the 2.4 liter engines shouldn't also be recalled because we had the exact same failure and it very well could have ended a lot worse than it did.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 30 mph, the rod bearings fractured and the vehicle seized without warning. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the failure mileage was approximately 72,601.
On 10/19/2020 i was traveling at approximately 70 mph on an oregon state highway when my car suddenly lost all power.i had to get to the side of the road and when i looked at the dash all the indicator lights were on and my engine was not running.my car started, but i was only able to drive a few miles at low speed before it started making a horrible sound.i stopped again and was stranded without cell service and waited for assistance.a few hours later i was towed into the nearest town.they couldn't help me, so i had it towed to the nearest kia dealer (approx 200 miles).they told me the noise was caused by a worn connecting rod bearing and i needed a new engine. The estimated cost is $7,212.the kendall kia dealer in nampa, idaho and kia consumer affairs have both told me that none of the cost would be covered; i do not have an extended warranty and they will assume no responsibility.the odometer reading was 85,246 miles and it had been well maintained.
As driving vehicle stalled out. When i towed to mechanic, they told me engine seized and locked. I was searching on line looks like kia has lot of problems with these engine and they are not safe.
I was driving to missouri there was a knocking from my car, i tried pushing on the gas but it wouldn't let the gasket to the engine so it wouldn't let me continue driving. I had to pull over and my dad and brother came to tow it to my dads town mechanic he said the barrings went out on the crank shaft. I was in the interstate. I found out there is a recall #17v-224 (metal debris may have been generated from factory machining operations as part of the manufacturing of the engine crankshaft which may not have been completely removed from the crankshaft's oil passages during the cleaning process. In addition, the machining processes of the crankpins caused an uneven surface roughness. As a result, the metal debris and uneven surface roughness can restrict oil flow to the bearings, thereby increasing bearing temperatures causing premature bearing wear. A worn connecting rod bearing will produce a cyclic knocking noise from the engine and may also result in the illumination of the engine warning lamp and/or oil pressure lamp in the instrument panel. If the warnings are ignored and the vehicle is continued the crank shaft going out and it could start a fire.) this is exactly what happened to my car. I know the vin # and the recall number does not match. I don't understand from what i read that there is a recall but not for my vehicle even though it says 2011 to 2013 kia sportage. My engine hass to be rebuilt the parts alone are $2800 then it cost the mechanic to fix my car so it's going to cost a little over or under 5000$ i only owe 4000$. If i would've known this i would've traded my car in for the new kia sportage. I really hope that someone can get a hold of me about this i don't see why i have to spend 5000 when there was a recall on exactly what happened to my vehicle.
At 97,xxx miles, the connecting rod bearings failed and the engine seized. The failure ruptured the oil pan, spraying oil on the engine, exhaust headers, and the road. The engine lost power at highway speeds and the vehicle coasted to the side of the road. The failure was sudden without any warning lights, noise, or performance loss prior to the failure.this failure seems similar to other failures with kia and hyundai engines, however this specific engine was not listed in a nhtsa recall. Kia has refused to warranty the failure, stating it was not "due to a manufacturing defect". The engine model is a 2.4l dohc mpi theta-ii. Other theta-ii engines have been recalled, just not this very specific type.
My daughter was driving the car on the highway and suddenly felt vibration and heard a loud engine noise. The engine light went on immediately. She quickly pulled off the road/turned off the car, worried it would catch fire. Oil changes have been done every 3,000 miles with documentation. She had an oil change 7-23-18. The engine ceased working on 7-26-18 while driving on the highway. The car had 55k miles on it and never had any problems as it was well-maintained. The engine prematurely ceased. Car was towed to a mechanic in palestine, tx who said the car was recalled for engine failure and recommended having it towed to kia in tyler, tx. Kia is saying that my daughter's car is not covered by this recall and the engine no longer works. This car was in pristine condition and the make and year is listed as a recall for engine failure! the mechanic at kia said there was oil in the car. A well maintained engine should not die at 55k miles! i want this investigated please as soon as possible. My car is sitting at the dealership in tyler, tx. My daughter should have had many many more years of use with this car and now has no way to get to college! i feel kia does not want to take responsibility for their faulty engine. Please help. Kia tech case number is 12009982 to pull up the details and pictures.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While the contact's daughter was driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle began to smoke and shut off. The contact stated that "oil sprayed all over the engine" and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to andy mohr avon nissan (317-279-3333, located at 8867 e us highway 36, avon, in 46123) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage and vin were unknown.
The engine of my vehicle caught on fire while i was driving.the accident happened july 10th.as of october 29th i am still awaiting its repair.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to gateway kia of denville (located at 3101 nj-10, denville, nj 07834, (973) 361-0400) where it was diagnosed that the engine seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 13175736. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
My check engine light came on while driving, then went off, then starting hearing noises in the engine.took to the dealership and they said my oil was low. I told them i get regular oil changes so i was not sure why. They said as a result i have engine failure. Until this incident i have never with my car and problem escalated very quickly.i took my car cause i wanted to get a 2nd opinion but did not get very far bc the engine just stopped.my vin is not on the recall list but all of the syptoms described are what i experienced.i want kia to take responsibility and fix.i take care of my vehicle and litteraly had no problems until this major problem.
My 2013 sportage continues to stall/shut down while driving at a high rate of speed.this is very scary.had it towed dealership. Is there a recall?
My wife was driving in traffic and vehicle lost power to everything .luckily she was in a position to pull into a parking lot. After the vehicle stopped she was able to start it again . This happened to her twice while trying to get home. I told her to get it home and make a service appointment . She told service department that since it was in we wanted all recalls dealt with. They only found two recalls( charcoal canister/ undercoating) we had them run a diagnostic test $150 and we were told they found nothing. On the return trip from the service department my wife calks again and said thevehicle completely shut down again! i went to see if i could help and found the vehicle with a trail of oil behind it and about 3 quarts of oil underneath.icalled the dealership and they said to tow it to them. The next morning i call and decided to make a in person visit to speak with the service manager. After i tell him what happenedhe makes no mention of any engine recall . I informed him there was with the engine. Then he tells me there is a recall with the 2.4 gdi engines and not fir the2.4 mpi engines. This sportage has 70k miles on it. Still pending a call back about what they discover the engine may be replaced or not. This needs further investigation about the 2.4 mpi being included in recalls.
I was driving at around 55mph on the highway when i heard a clinking noise coming from the front end of my car and it stopped accelerating despite my foot pressing the gas pedal. I lost power. No warning lights went off on the display dash. The engine stalled shortly after while i was still in motion. I was luckily able to pull over safely. I tried turning over the ignition but the engine just clanked but didn't start. I had just had the oil changed and the temperature gauge did not read anything abnormal. Only after i pulled over did the engine light come on. I checked the oil and it was still full. I looked under the frame and noticed dripping oil. I noticed pieces of metal on the ground and retrieved them. (photo 1) they appear to be piston connecting rod pieces. There is currently a class action lawsuit settlement in place for issues related to connecting rod bearing wear leading to engine failure resulting in the engine seizing increasing the risk of crash, damaged pistons, and a cracked engine block with the engines in 2011-2019 kia sportages equipped with a 2.0l or 2.4l gasoline direct injection engine.(engine failure and fire).i have a 2013 2.4l. (recall number 17v224000. Kia's number for this recall is sc147) although according to the kia website, my vin was not included for some unknown reason. Terms of the settlement include but not limited to free inspection and repair or replacement of damaged engines, lifetime warranty for short block assembly repairs, free installation of the knock sensor detection system software update (from a previous recall 17v-224), as well as goodwill compensation.the oil spilled out onto the tow truck bed during the trip to my house. I assessed the damage with my dad and noticed the hole in the bottom of the engine block. (photo 2). We realized the rod blew through the engine block.
Car stopped running while driving and the engine seized and locked up. Had my mechanic look at it. Put myself and others at risk being in traffic. No problems prior and no warning lamps whatsoever.
The contact owned a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 60 mph, the engine made a noise and the entire instrument panel illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (evans kia (4580 washington rd, evans, ga 30809, (706) 305-4000) where it was diagnosed that the engine froze up. The contact ended up trading the car in for an upgrade since the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Suv has 125,000 miles on it sb's the engine froze. Happened while driving on the interstate at 70mph (the speed limit here). Just lost acceleration and had to glide to the shoulder, where it wouldn't restart (obviously). The mechanic at kia in lake charles said he's never seen an engine go out this early. No prior issues other than the sun roof mechanism.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine which got progressively worse. A loud boom was heard and the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to royal kia located at 4333 e. Speedway blvd, tucson, az 85712, where it was diagnosed and the contact informed that the engine ceased. Metal shavings were found in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
I was driving on interstate 75 in punta gorda florida, i exited the freeway and as i was turning left off the interstate the engine started to make a very loud bagig from the engine. I checked the oil and all was good. I took the car back to the dealer where i originally purchased the car. They of course could not do anything, so they said. I looked on this website and i noticed there are some 2013 kia sportage recalls for this very problem. I'm just wondering if my vin will ever be part of a recall.
Driving to work i heard a knocking in the engine. The car stalled all the lights on the dash came on. A rod had broken. Took to local kia dealer and was told this is a common, frequent problem with this engine and while many other kia engines were recalled for some reason mine was note. There are many other complaints of the exact same thing happening with this car. I feel this engine should be recalled also.
Engine failure 113,000 miles, no warning, no lights.engine knocking when idling
Making loud noise under hood. After turning off it would start but would not idle. It is at a kia dealership in pensacola fl. We were on highway i10 going in to pensacola when this took place. Had to be towed to nearest kia dealership
I was driving on the freeway at 65 mph and my car started to slow down, my car just slow down and wouldn't go fast anymore i pulled off to the side of the road to see what is the problem. When i turned on the car it would not start up anymore it just died on me. The next day i took my vehicle to aaa to have it checked, andthey told me it's an engine failure.i went into kia dealership told them about the i was having with the vehicle i askedif my vehicle is under anengine recall? they told me no.
My wife was driving the car she went to pass someone on a county road and the car died. So she put the car in neutral to coast out of the way. Tried to start the car nothing, acted like bad battery. Tried boosting the car off same thing. Replaced battery same thing. Saw smoke coming from the car engine when cranking the engine while being boosted. The smoke was coming from the starter. Took the starter off, tried turning the crankshaft, couldn't turn the engine at all. Acted like the engine was locked up. Called tow-truck to take the car to the repair shop. Ford dealership where i bought the car, to be checked out. They said the engine was locked up also, said they removed the first and second piece oil pan. Removed center crank shaft main bearing cap, removed all four connecting rod bearing caps and found connecting rod #3 bearing seized to the crank shaft. The other bearings were in rough shape also. I have all the paper work proving that the oil was changed every 3 thousand miles. The car only had 125,000 miles on it. Dealership said that the engine needed to be replaced because there was shaving in the oil pan from the bearings and probably in the oil pump also. Had to pay the ford dealership $533.90 to tell me the engine was locked up. They said a new engine was $5000 not counting what it would cost to have it installed, they said the new engine had upgraded bearings. So they new there was a problem. Found some used engines for about $3000 dollars but scared that the same thing would happen again. Called kia dealership they said that there was a recall on the same year 2013 kia sportage ex as mine, with the same engine. But not on my vin #.looked on the internet there was a lot of the same 2013 kia sportage ex vehicles that they said had the same problems as mine and there vin # were not covered also. Kia should fix the problem it they know there is a problem.
On sunday november 8th 2020, my daughter was driving the 2013 kia sportage with a little over 66,000 miles on it.while driving on hwy. 174 in franklin county, georgia the car started making a sound and then died in the middle of the road.oil was everywhere in the road.fortunately, this was in a straight of way and not in a corner and no one was directly behind her.i had the car towed to a mechanic and he said the engine blew a rod through the block and it would need a new engine.kia has recalled similar engines but because this was a dohc model engine it was not part of the recall.however, these engines are having the same problems as the recalled engine.these vehicles are not safe and something should be done.i scanned in a text from my mechanic and the kia mechanic who gave me a price for the new engine. Thank you
My 2013 kia sportage ex - the engine started knocking and seized.this was in may 2018. Because i purchased the vehicle used,i did not believe that i would have any kind of warranty or recourse to have my engine repaired or replaced.i made my complaint on the kia website last week, after i had seen articles online regarding a recall. I just received a phone call from kia corporate this morning. This was in regard to my complaint.basically, because i have a different engine (dohc) than the recalled engine (gdi), i don't have a warranty, kia will not back up their product, they will not help to get my engine repaired even though the engine i have has the exact same issues as the engine that was under recall. It was further explained that the kia dealerships are independently owned and that they, the dealerships, would make the decisions on repairs. Kia corporate will not override that. I ended up having to hang up because of sheer frustration over the fact that i was first told there might be assistance, and then when i questioned what kind of assistance, i basically was not going to get any, it was going to be on a so called case by case basis.the bottom line is that the phone call ended up being a waste of my time and only made my point that kia does not have well built vehicles, they do not back up their product, and i will never ever buy another kia vehicle again!
Purchased vehicle on april 22nd, 2019 from anaheim mitsubishi. Purchase price 8,995.00, mileage 101,527. On may 15th 2019 while on interstate 5 in grapevine auto suffered severe engine failure. The vin of this vehicle is not listed under current kia recall but same exact problem
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving approximately 15 mph, the check engine and oil pressure warning indicators illuminated, the rpms revved, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, but it was inoperable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). An unknown dealer was contacted by telephone. The manufacturer's customer care hotline was called, but the contact did not speak with anyone. The approximate failure mileage was 90,100.
On june 26, car parked in shopping mall parking lot and car caught on fire (under hood) while i was at work.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle began to make a clunking noise. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the dealer would be contacted so the vehicle could be repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). On the day of the appointment, the contact was informed that the case was reassigned and the approval of the repair was denied. The vehicle was not repaired due to cost. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
At about 122,000 miles the motor threw a rod. The rod brook a piece of the motor off. We were travel and were stranded in between town in the country.
At a freeway off ramp stop sign my 2013, kia sportage engine died and could not be restarted.there are 70,000 miles on it. The car was towed to my mechanic. Investigation determined that the motor bearings were defective. This is the exact problem for which kia is having a recall. Kia denied my claim saying my vin # was not one approved for recall.they claim that my car was not manufactured at the assembly plant where the defects occurred. Regardless of where my car was assembled, motor bearing failure with only 70,000 miles is kia's fault. The emotional stress is severe. Kia's stonewalling is very frustrating and the expense (approximately $6,000) is backbreaking.
While getting off the highway the car started making a rattling, knocking sound, it was a scary sound so i drove it to firestone to see what was wrong. Apparently i need a new engine on a car that has 81k miles. The vehicle has had routine maintenance since purchased. Some 2013 sportages with the same issue and same motor have been recalled mine has not. Time to see if kia stands behind the product
We were driving on a parkway at approximately 55-65 mph when without warning the check engine light, oil lamp, and battery light came on. Simultaneously my husband (the driver) reported that the car would no longer accelerate. The garage it was towed to reported that they could get the car to start but there was a noise coming from the bearings and the engine would stall shortly after. This description matches a recent recall, but on sportages only the 2.0l turbo engine was included, and we have the 2.4l engine. This engine was recalled on other models, however.
The contact's called on behalf of her mother who owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, when the vehicle seized and saw smoke exiting the from the underneath the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to local dealer daytona kia (510 n nova rd, daytona beach, fl 32114: (386) 252-7000), where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling), however the vin was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Traveling at highway speeds, the following happened. 2013 kia sportage purchased july 2019 -started to lose power and loud knocking noise from engine (no check engine light and coolant temps average to make me aware of a problem). The lack and loss of power in any situation with other vehicle at high rates of speed has the possibility of cause severe accidents, casualties, and endangering large groups of individuals. -pulled off to the shoulder of the highway due to lack of power and car shaking (very high risk of getting hit). -had car towed to aaa approved (kwik kar). -mechanic called and mentioned that this specific engine (2.0l and 2.4l) is that the oil pumphas defects and will starve the engine of oil with no signs (such as check engine light). -estimated cost of repair $8000. -i called kia and the response was "since i did not take my vehicle in when there was a product improvement campaign that kia would not repair/replace the engine due to my negligence" (i was never contacted about this "campaign") and when i would check the kia website (i checked every 3 months) there were and still are no recalls specific for my vin.
Sitting at a stop light went to take off and heard a horrendous noise coming from my car , pulled over called my brother to see what the noise was put my phone up to it on speaker so he could hear and said it's your engine, shut it off, and have it towed.
This week i heard a noise in my car, believe it was in the motor.internet shows many recalls, i called kia and was told my car not part of the recall. I filed a claim with them file/case # 12719646 and contacted a local dealer.performance kia, moosic pa. Took car for evaluation. They preformed test and result.engine has internal bearing failure.they contacted kia to see if qualifies for replacement after losing 3 hours of work waiting they were not approved to replace at time. Having no other form of transportation i left with vehicle and an estimate of $4836.27.called kia it is under review.next morning called kia again still under review in hands of dm over service.called dealership to advise. He contacted dm for update was told replacement denied by kia. Out of pocket. Car has 86000 miles. No extended warranty. Internet claims my motor not covered although many complaints on line with the 2.4 motor.not sure why this is not covered. Coming home from work last night motor died. At 72355 miles rod bearing failure while driving at 20mph
The contact owns a 2011 kia forte. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to decelerate. The contact was able to park on the side of the road. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact called the local dealer fred beans kia of langhorne (1801 lincoln hwy, langhorne, pa 19047, (267)436-4961) and made the dealer aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired yet. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000.*dt*dtthe consumer stated the manufacturer advised the vehicle was not included in the recall. *dt
Engine has 94000 miles, and started making an awful knocking sound. Pulled into service station and was told engine full of metal shavings and the engine needs replaced. Kia customer service says this kia not covered by the recent engine recall, and my responsibility to cover it, even though it seems to be the same issue as those covered? engine always maintained like it should be and no previous issues until this. All of a sudden without any warning the engine starts chewing itself apart. Luckily there was somewhere close to stop before it seized up on the highway.
2013 kia sportage bought used off the showroom floor with only 5024 miles at 1 year old in october of 2014. When bought used, there is a 5yr/60,000 mile warranty(as opposed to the 10/100 when bought new).this 5/60 warranty begins at the time of purchase of the original owner which happened to be 11/6/2012.on 12/28/17 while traveling out of state, i was about 200 miles into a 220 mile trip when the engine seized with only 56,000 miles.while traveling a main route at roughly 50 mph in moderate traffic, the vehicle lost all motor power, slowed & came to a crawl (in traffic). I was fortunate enough to not be rearended as i safely pulled over & coasted into a parking lot. There were knocking sounds coming from my motor and the vehicle would barely move while given ample gas. I called kia roadside assistance who informed me that they would not be sending a free tow truck as my warranty expired 52 days prior, but for $80+ they'd send a tow truck right away. (ps: i have never used kia roadside assistance prior to this call - thanks kia) i turned that offer down stating i had aaa.aaa towed the kia to the nearest dealership only 4 miles away, kia of sussex in nj. The following day, the hesitant svc mgr "confirmed" that the motor was seized-he did not pop the hood, only turned the key. They were reluctant to repair because we weren't from nj. So we paid out of pocket to have it towed home to cny. We've submitted a claim to kia motors america twice & they've denied our claim twice despite providing all of the oil change receipts that were done more than the manual suggested. Also, despite the fact that in march of 2017 a recall notice was submitted regarding this exact issue but when we called the dealer, they only stated it didn't apply to our vin. Because it is 52 days out of warranty (with only 56k mi) they refuse to cover it. This is a lemon- we feel they're responsible
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While the contact's husband was driving 65 mph, the engine seized and the vehicle turned off. The driver was able to park the vehicle on the side of the road and noticed that the check engine warning indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 140,000.
I was making a slight turn while accelerating approximately 45mph when the vehicle just lost power. I fortunate enough to pull over in a safe spot. The car wouldnt stsrt again and had to be towed. My independent mechanic took a look a stated the engine seized. It has now been towed to kia dealership near by. Hopefully the extended warranty for either the long block, short block, or rods will cover the repairs.
I was driving on a city street at about 35mph when all of a sudden i heard a loud knocking noise coming from the engine and then a pull on my steeringi then lost control of my vehicle. I was very lucky as there was not much traffic coming and was able to get my car onto a side street where i was then illegally parked. I turned the car off waited about 20mins then started it again and the noise was much louder. I had to have my car towed to a local mechanic who then diagnosed the problem to be that my engine had seized. My car has always had its service every 3months or 3000 miles. There was no warning signs of any problems with my vehicle. I then had my vehicle towed to the dealer where they had their mechanics diagnose the car only to find they confirmed that yes my engine had seized. With only 69,900 miles and no warning what so ever that this could and would have happened.
Just purchased kia sportage 2013 a few weeks ago and everything was just find under under the hood. Yesterday i was driving to work and the car just stalled on me on the highway and started smoking. No warning signs! by the grace of god, i was able to enter to the right lane without losing my live as many were all driving fast around me as i was trying to make it to the side. When i was able to park and i noticed that the oil was pouring out from the bottom.
My wife and seven year old son was driving down a 2 lane interstate going 65mph in her 2013 kia sportage 130,000 miles before the engine siezed up on her avoiding a collection with a semi. Called customer service and they had me take the vechical to the dealership for a good will check since it was out of warrenty. Dealership came back and told me i had proper mainentance records and there was no sludge build up in the heads. They told me they couldnt find any fault of my own for the engine seizing up. They then told me the district manager denied the good will based on no other vechicals not having this issue. Although i have read hundreds of reports of this happening to many 2013 kia sportages with fwd. This is not right. Kia needs to fix their mistakes! not only for the vechical failing but risking the life of my wife and son.
Driving straight down the highway in the mountains, the car stalled 3 times when i would let off the gas. It began making a noise like the muffler wasn't working, then a knocking noise under the hood, and the noise under the hood got louder. I had the car towed to my repair shop. He told me the engine needed to be overhauled or replaced. I spoke to the dealer, the said the same thing.they want $9,800 to replace the engine.
My car stopped while driving on the freeway (very frightening). The battery and oil light came on, so i thought it was my battery. I requested a jump and the roadside service person told me that it was not my battery and that i should request a tow. Eventually my car was towed to a kia dealership. The dealership told me that my engine seized but my engine type did not fall under the warranty or recall.
My car with 138,700 miles quit accelerating while driving on the highway. Had it towed to an independent shop since i was out of town. Told the bottom of my engine failed and there was metal shavings in my oil. Had normal maintenance done and 2 weeks before my car stopped running had it checked and oil changed. No metal shavings and no leak. My car had oil in it. Told by kia dealer that my vin was not on recall list despite mechanic stating that what had occurred to my car was eerily similar to why the engines were being recalled. No reason given for my engine to fail. Had car towed to kia dealer. Kia dealer then stated that it would be 11k to fix my car. Called kia customer service. Once more told my vin was not affected and that my engine would not be fixed under recall. Kia dealer stated there was no obvious reason why the bottom of my engine would fail.
Engine blew without warning while driving on a city street. Vehicle was towed to private mechanic. I was told that i would need a new engine and it was not due to lack of maintenance. He has seen three kia vehicles within the last two weeks with the same exact issue. Contacted kia customer service and was advised to have vehicle towed to dealership. Mechanic confirmed a rod had been thrown and needed new engine. Mechanic also confirmed oil was clean and full. I faxed all of my maintenance records to dealership. Area district manager refused goodwill towards cost of engine. I never spoke to the district manager. I was told my only other option was to contact kia customer service and to have my complaint escalated in the system. My vin was not included in the recall even though my engine has the same exact problem as the recall. The recall needs to be expanded to include all kia sportages. Kia is making money off of its own manufacturing defect. My vehicle had approximately 108,000 miles on it when the engine blew. There are hundreds complaints about this happening. I don't understand why it is taking so long for the recall to be expanded. It has been under investigation for over a year by the nhtsa.
I have a 2013 sportage. While driving on a parkway the check engine and check oil light came on and the engine seized. Thankfully i was able to pull over and avoid a possibly fatal car accident with my wife and i in the car.i had it towed to a garage and then the yonkers kia dealership as the garageadvised me of recall #sc147. I had opened case# 12520876 with kia customer service on 10/20/20217. Since then i have gotten nothing but excuses and delays that they are waiting for another department to see if it can be covered under this warranty and having it escalated to another department.its now overa week without my car and i still have not gotten a response on my repair from them.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was and abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer however, a diagnostic test was not performed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
My 2013 kia sportage with 96,807 miles stalled while driving on a very busy, fast-moving street. The car began to stutter, lose acceleration, and a knocking sound started to come from the engine. Had the vehicle towed to my mechanic who diagnosed the issue as severe engine knocking which led the to the engine stalling. Per the diagnosis from my mechanic, upon tear down of engine the main bearings had spun causing excessive play on the pistons allowing them to hit on the engine wall causing the knocking.during this process, we learned the gdi engines were recalled but the theta engines were not, for some reason. Even though the issues are the same. We also learned the theta engines for replacement are impossible to find because (1) the engines were discontinued and (2) the issue is common and so many people are needing new engines.we had to replace the engine, which cost $7,000 (due to the mechanic finding only one used engine available for replacement - at the cost of over $5,000 for the engine alone). The car runs normal now, but we are obviously concerned the replacement engine will have the same issue and fail, given how often this is occurring with these engines.kia needs to acknowledge this issue with the theta engines, and reimburse customers who have no other choice but to fix their car. We diligently serviced our vehicle with timely oil changes, and have the documentation to back it up. Cars stalling while driving is a safety concern, and cannot be stated any other way.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 30 mph, the engine failed. The contact pulled into a drive-thru and the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine seized. A dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not covered under warranty and there was no recall. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
There is a "clicking" sound in the motor - this begin suddenly. This is heard when the vehicle is in motion on highway.
My kia sportage has 57102 miles, i know the sportage 2011-2013 has a recall for engine recall number: 17v224000 recall date: 03/31/2017. Component engine and engine cooling:engine. My car has strong noise in the engine when you start and driving but the kia said no recalls.why?
Motor quit while on our way to epcot, orlando, florida in 4 lanes of traffic. Had to be pushed to side of road. Luckywe were not hit from behind and killed or injured. Engine seized due to metal shaking entering oil pump.been without vehicle since july 5, 2018. 7,000 miles over warranty.am a senior citizen on fixed income.paid $5,800 before they would start repairs.was told 3 to 9 month back order on engine.losing interest on that money and no will call me to help get engine free because this is happening to other 2013 kia sportage. Many articles on this issue but was told the problem was fixed and my vin number was not in a recall. Same issue happened to my car that happened to other recalls.help!!!!!!
Engine seized while driving on city street.
While driving in town the engine started to knock. Sounded like a wood pecker under the hood. The oil was checked and was at the full line. The vehicle was towed to the local kia dealer where it was determined that the engine has a bad bearing. Kia declined to help with the repair. It is a 2013 with 108,000 miles. It is a 2.4 liter engine that has had regular oil changes.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving approximately 55 mph, there was a loud abnormal noise from the front of the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to young kia (308 main st, layton, ut 84041) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case, but the claim was denied. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 127,000.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact restarted the vehicle however, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to benny boyd lampasas chrysler dodge jeep ram located at 601 n. Key ave, lampasas, tx 76550, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the vin was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 227,077.*dt
2.4 gdi engine recall was not extended to my vehicle but engine failed while driving in freeway for same failure reason as other 2013 vehicles recalled and now am facing an engine replacement on a vehicle with 61k miles. No warning lights illuminated prior to engine failure and all maintenance completed on time
While driving on the highway the engine started knocking and then lost all power.we just barely made it out of traffic. We had received a engine recall but when we contacted the dealer were told our vin. Number wasn't effected.the car was purchased with 5000 miles from a dealership in syracuse ny.there was 58000 miles at the time of the failure.it cannot be driven.
Traveling on highway heard noise and engine died.mechanic said engine threw a rod probably because of bad bearings.he said they've seen this same thing in other kia sportages..
Engine ceased while driving on highway
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic determined that bearing wear caused the engine to seize. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. The vin was unknown.
Takata recall as i was driving the car out of no where the vehicle idled down and then stalled. I tried to restart the car but it kept stalling out. I then got it towed to kia and they found metal fragments inside the engine. This engine only has about 76000 miles on it. Dont know how this would even happen but i was doing 35 mph when it decided to stall on me with my kids in the car at a busy intersection.
Takata recalldriving my daughter 2013 kia sportage the other day heard a terrible metal noise on the way home. No warning lights came on. It didn't over heat or anything . I was was less then 1/2 mile from the house so i drove it home. On the way the noise got louder and right in front of the house all power shut done and the car stopped. Thank god it was me and not my daughter. I got it to side of the road. Ive only had the cat about 14 months and it looks and drove like a new one. Of course its the engine and guess what its vin.# is not on the recall list. I bought a kia from a kia dealer for the reason of lasting a long time for a student driver. I called kia customer recall # and they basically said sorry we cant help you. My question is if you have a recall on 2011-13and now 2014-2018 all engines why isn't mine included just because of a certain vin.#going with the odds i would bet my is bad also. Im out all this money plus the cost of college. I would hope kia would please reconsider their recall and do all 2013 's also. Please help!!!
I was driving on the expressway and i heard a loud noise i was close to my exit so i got off and the car started to smoke so i towed the car to my mechanic and he said the engine was gone and it was full of oil
While driving on the highway the front end began to make a loud rattling noise. The vehicle was stopped and towed to a mechanic who informed me that the engine would need to be replaced. This issue is the same one as described in the recall sc147, however, my vin has not been included in the recall. This recall should be expanded. The vehicle was maintained regularly and all maintenance suggested was always promptly performed. This $7,000 should be the responsibility of kia.
I heard a light ticking noise yesterday afternoon when driving through apartment community that i live and work at. I went to get in last night to go to store and when i turned my car on it was making a loud knocking noise. I turned it off and started making phone calls to mechanics this morning when i was told of a possible recall.
I was driving on the highway between 70-75 mph when the motor failed.no lights came on, no warning until after it blew.there was a knocking sound about 10-15 second before i felt the engine gave out--i felt it under my foot in the pedal.i lost power immediately, i could steer but had no acceleration.i was extremely lucky to get the car out of traffic and to the side of the road.when it was towed to my mechanic, who have just completed an oil change a couple weeks previous, he stated the motor blew.he stated this him surprise because there was nothing wrong with it when he completed the oil change.i became aware of the motor recalls through a dealership mechanic that thought he could help and was shocked to read the exact things happened to many others.i attempted to work this out with kia and was inform my vin was not covered under the recall.they refused to offer any assistance in resolving this.i am very lucky that this did not cause harm to myself or anyone else as this was a busy highway i was on, the results could have been catastrophic.
I was driving home on the freeway when i began hearing a loud knocking noise coming from engine. I noticed that it became difficult for me to accelerate and felt as if the engine was going to break down on me right on the freeway. I drove it home but the noise got louder. No check engine light illuminated to signal a problem with the engine at all. I was able to research the problem and associated it with a recall #sc147 however our vin was not under this recall however i believe that it definitely should be! we took it to the kia dealership which found that the noise was coming from the lower end crankshaft bearing and would require a brand new engine and would cost $6000-$9000 to repair. This is exactly what was described in the recall that i mentioned but does not for some reason relate to this recall. We are the first owners, have had the car for 7 years, get regular service on the car and only have 129,000 miles on it. We will not be repairing this vehicle.
[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Piston rod broke through the engine while driving.vehicle has 88,000 miles.not under warranty per kia.2nd owner.vehicle was purchased used from a kia dealer.2nd hand market for this type engine is not available.per kia, no recalls were issued for these vehicles. *lnvehicle was not repaired.
Just watched a news release on nbc indicating the possiblity of a fire from the underside of vehicle. I'm concerned that this organization is dragging its feet on a recall. Endangering my family. Please do what needs to be done before more serious tragidies occur.
Bought the kia sportage in december 2018, 2 weeks after car started running hot, check coolant was a little low put coolant in still gauge kept going up to hot especially if at stop light or in slow traffic. They added coolant, evacuation and recharge ac. $338.15. Next day car overheating, totally frustrated. Call maxcare plan, they wanted me to take back to dealer couldn't had to move and surgery scheduled, they wouldn't come pick up car. Car sat for 6 weeks it would get started but not driven. After 6 weeks, i drove it still overheating check engine light came on, took t to carmax, that was a waste of time they kept quoting prices but didn't look at the car. I left took back to nalley kia they said i had an oil leak, iasked where and if that's why still overheating they couldn't give answer zo i left. Had my 2nd surgery drove car to savannah car overheated on ride down kept putting coolant, got a mobile mechanic that showed me it was my coils that cause the misfire cylinder 3 p 0303, airflow. He checked it out changed plugs, wires, coils and thermostat. $545.00 approximately. The car ran well for 2days then overheated he came and realized that the fan wasn't coming on at all. The fan is broken. He test to see if power was going to fan, it was.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated while driving 73 mph, she heard an abnormal sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact parked on the side of the roadway and saw smoke coming from under the hood. The contact opened the hood and saw fire around the engine. The contact stated that her boyfriend extinguished the fire with bottles of water she had in the vehicle. The police and fire department were called to the scene. A fire report was filed. The contact was not aware of a police report being filed. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to two independent mechanics and remained at the second location. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.
I was driving on the benicia bridge with my 9 and 5 year old when the car lost the ability to accelerate. There was a quiet ticking under the hood then within 30 seconds it sounded like a hammer smacking over and over. I pulled do the slow lane put the car in neutral and coasted over the bridge until there was a safe shoulder. Had it towed to a mechanic who said i needed a new engine.
Driving my kia and it lost power lights came on and i pulled into a parking lot. It died, all this oil was running out of my car. I had to get it towed!!!! horrible experience!!! this happened on a regular road. I do not know, why this happened there was no warning, than it lost power. Very scary situation!!! i than called for a tow. Waited there 3 hrs. For the tow truck!!! the tow guy said, he just picked up another kia and now my kia and he was on his way to tow another kia...
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the rpm started fluctuating with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle started to decelerate. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic stated that all the engine oil had leaked out of the engine. The vehicle was then towed to nalley kia (7849 mall pkwy, lithonia, ga 30038) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,344. *dt
Catastrophic failure of the connecting rod. Broke right in the middle of the rod. Manufacturing defect.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact heard a knocking sound within the engine compartment. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling), but the vin was not included. The contact stated that the repair would be covered under warranty and that an unknown dealer agreed to replace the short block within the engine. The contact stated that the dealer wanted to replace the engine with a rebuilt engine instead of a brand new one. The contact was concerned that the same engine block would be added to the rebuilt engine using the same contaminated oil that caused the previous engine failure. The contact was referred to the state attorney general's office. The contact was also referred to the kia manufacturer at 800-333-4542 to discuss the nature of the recall repair in its entirety. The failure mileage was 68,000.
Driving on a very busy city road, came to a red traffic light. Went to proceed as the traffic light turned green and nothing.the car just quit & would not restart.no signs or warnings that there was an issue.motor seized.i was almost hit by someone who did not realize i was having car issues.had my grand children in the vehicle with me.they were frightened by people honking and yelling at me and being stuck in the middle of a very busy road
2013 kia sorento engine recall: i was driving on the freeway in southern california to visit family when i started hearing a clicking sound coming from my car. It sounded like a woodpecker and it happened each time i hit the gas. When i accelerated slightly to merge over to the right to exit the freeway when i lost power, the gas pedal didn't respond. I was able to navigate traffic and coast to a stop on the off ramp. When this happened the check oil light, battery light, and check engine light came on. I then shut off my car, put on the hazard lights, and when i tried to start my car again it wouldn't start. I had to be towed from the freeway off ramp an hour later. I keep up with the regular maintenance and this should not have happened to my car at 107,000 miles. The dealership that it was towed to told me that the engine seized up and they are not sure why, some part in the middle...i drive this road to visit family often and if this would have happened at another point in my journey i could have been in a very bad accident. Sometimes on this freeway there are little to no shoulders, blind corners, and very dark at night with high speed traffic. Had this happened during an uphill section i could have been rear-ended or caused an accident as i lost all power and the flow of traffic is fast.
Total engine failure while driving. After diagnoses dealer said we need a new engine at a cost of $ 11,000!
I was driving as normal, on my way home. The car started to make a fluttering noise so i thought it could be my rotors. However, the car began to make a squeaking noise in the form of chirps and got louder as i tried to accelerate. I came to a stop at construction and when i went to go forward the car would not go over 2000 rpm. I pulled over and turned the car off. When i started it, it made a horrible screeching noise. Sounded like a belt flapping around and something else made the noise. I took it to a mechanic and he identified metal flakes in the oil. The engine is confirmed to have failed. The breaking of the engine is not touser error as i have kept it very well maintained and had frequent oil change/ tune ups. The incident was out of the blue and would not have been able to identify the issue prior to the engine failing. Had i been on the highway this could have caused a serious accident, thankfully i was on a local mountain road.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that the engine was faulty and made an abnormal clanking noise. In addition, oil and water leaked onto the pistons and damaged the engine. The check engine indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to briggs kia (3137 s kansas ave, topeka, ks 66611, (785) 246-8020) where it was diagnosed that a new engine needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.
I was driving straight, about 70 mph down a local highway, clicking began which then got louder along with a squeak. My accelerator went out and i wasn't able to drive any further. Anytime you start it up and press on the pedal, it clicks really loud and my mechanic said its the engine.
I was driving down the road and i heard a loud bang. The car lost power at all dash lights came on. I take it to mechanic and he said that i threw a rod and that it cracked a hole in the engine block. This specific type of kia sport age engine has not been recalled. But the bearings came loose and it threw a rod just like the other 2013 kia sportages that have been recalled
April 18 2019 coming home on the highway, the engine started "knocking" real loud made it home (by luck) and the next day i called briggs kia. Had it towed and i was informed that the engine was "blown"and that they had to replace the engine.i have had this car a year and a half.i am the second owner and i feel that this engine should have not blown like this. My pontiac that i traded for this car had over two hundered thousand miles and the only thing i had replaced was the brakes, battery, fan belt and starter. Of the 8 cars have owned (all general motors) this is the first time i have had an engine blown in a vehicle.kia dealershipsaid they could not help me because there was no recall on that engine. So i called kia consumer assistance and they gave me a complaint number # 11203341. I was also advised that kia might be able to help me with "good will" to reimbursement for the failure of this engine. Cost of the engine repair was $ 8906.59 and briggs did not lend me a loaner car.i had to pay for a rental at the cost of $ 280.00 i'm 74 years old and on a fixed income and i had to take out a loan for the repairs and rental.briggs said i had a 12/12 warranty(used engine) tried to call your office !-800-333-4542 but, was placed on hold for 15 minutes.i checked with recallmasters.com and it stated there was a recall on kia sportage with engine freeze up causing knocking noise. Please see if you can help me in some way. Thanks former u.s. Marine veit nam veteran
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at low speeds in traffic, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact's wife attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to youngblood kia (3525 s campbell ave, springfield, mo 65807, (866) 825-9532) and diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) as a possible solution to the failure however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage approximately 70,000. The vin was not included.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power and would not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the turbo voltage regulator needed to be adjusted. The turbo voltage regulator was adjusted but the failure later recurred. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred on multiple occasions.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,000.
While driving to work using city streets i heard a very faint and intermittent knocking sound when i would press on the accelerator. The same thing happened on the way home. So as my husband and i are leaving to go to the gym(2.5 miles away) i told him the car is making a noise. The knocking was a little louder and steadier. Coming home theknocking was super loud and wheni made my turn the car didn't have much power. L pulled into the carport and left the engine on so we could investigate and it was definitely coming from the engine.no engine light or oil light ever came on.i turned it off and had it towed to the royal kia dealership the next day.on monday. The service rep called and said the engine seized due to the rod bearings failing. It would be $9600 to put in aused engine.i have 88,300 miles on it.the next day i left a message questioning if this wouldbe covered by the powertrain warranty. He called back and stated that he "realized" late last night that it was covered by thewarranty so kia will be replacing the engine with a brand new one at no cost.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 55 mph, an abnormal noise was heard and the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart on the third attempt. The dealer (transitowne kia, 3160 transit rd, west seneca, ny 14224, (716) 668-3700) was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to call the dealer to schedule an appointment for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was 112,000.
We purchased this car from used car lot with a new inspection sticker. Vehicle had 83k miles at purchase. Vehicle engine blew at 84k miles. Driving approx. 40mp and the car shut down. Wouldn't restart. Garage said the engine is blown.
As i was driving down the highway at about 70 mph my rpm dropped to 0, check engine, oil and battery lights all came on and my speed dropped to about 35 mph in a matter of seconds. I was able to pull over and shut the car off, it would not restart. State police were on the scene within a half hour, setting up flares, and i had to have the car towed only to be informed that it was in complete engine failure. My 2.4l engine was not included in the recall, as kia so quickly informed me when i tried to get assistance, and my warranty had expired exactly 3 months 22 days prior to the engine failure. Kia has offered no help whatsoever, if they return my calls, so i am now expected to put a new engine in a car that is 5 years old with only 55,000 miles on it, out of my own pocket. Car was maintained, routine oil changes, absolutely no reason for this failure. Mechanic has stated finding a used engine to fit my model has been extremely difficult, as this seems to be a reoccurring issue with all sportage models.
Blown engine
2013 kia sportage engine failure in june of 2017.i was driving the vehicle eastbound at 75mph on interstate 10 bear blythe, az in significant traffic.the engine shut off and power steering failed.i able to avoid a collision but spun out into the interstate median.i had the vehicle towed to a kia dealership in avondale, az.kia dealership confirmed the engine had seized.kia denied warranty coverage for engine claiming it is not part of the kia engine safety recall campaign sc147.kia claims the engine was manufactured in korea so it is not included.however, there are at least 6 other "not covered" sportage's parked in service lot awaiting repair.service manager reported to me that kia is denying the coverage when he "knows" the engine problem is caused by a defective manufacturing process.
We were driving down hwy 75 s the car was on cruse control , the engine began to rev up so i took the cruise control off , the car began to knock so i was making my way to the edge of the road when flames and smoke began coming from the rear of the car . Other drivers began to call 911 and reported my car was on fire. At this time i heard a load noise from the engine and the engine blew .i was able to make it to the side of the road and turned off the engine . Police , fire and roadside assistance all showed up . My kia and the year are among the recall engine but my vin number is not , so kia consumer will not do anything to help me .i have done my research on here and have seen many other kia engines on here the same as mine that have done the same exact thing but not been in the recall . It is time kia steps up and does something about this .there was only 92 thousand miles on my engine all oil changes were good new air filter just installed and tires just rotated , i took very good care of my car it was not abused . But kia is offering nothing to help . They did state that they will send it further up the chain . That could take weeks .
I wasat a stop light went to take off heard a noise in my engine, was scared to drive it, pulled over called my brother, who knows about cars and said don't drive it have it towed, it sounds like the engine.
Our sportage has the 2.4 engine. At 139,000 miles while driving on the interstate the engine started knocking. The car displayed no check engine warning lights, no check oil, no temperaturechange. We lost power on the interstate but made it and pulled off the next exit. We had it towed to a repair shop. They diagnosed a failed engine and found metal shaving in oil.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, a tapping sound emerged from the engine compartment, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (bev smith kia of fort pierce, 5655 s us hwy 1, ft pierce, fl 34982), where it was determined that total engine failure was experienced and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 85,000.
Onsunday december 24, 2017 christmas eve we were driving on 95 south returning home with my daughters and i was on the express lane and all the sudden i heard a loud noise coming from the front and the car stop speeding and i was able to pull over to the side where the car just shut off, a roade ranger came to assist us, he checked to see if it was the battery but i just bought the battery then gas/oil nothing. We ended up having the car towed to a mechanic in hallandale beach, where they told us is an engine issue. This is very similar to the recent recall of engine fail. Its now been 3 weeks and we dont have a car
While driving on the free the engine had a small pull on it. I didn't think anything of it however just a few moments later, the engine stalled. On the middle of the free way. I was going to freeway speed limit(70) maybe 5/6 over. It was one of the most scariest moments ever, i had time to at least pull over on the side of the freeway but i couldn't believe the engine stopped while driving. Also yes i did get my regular tune ups as well as oil change every 3 months. This car was well taken care of. I love how the engines before this one were recalled but there's so any complaints on there current engine and they won't recall them.
I was driving home on the highway at approximately 60-65 mph, when a loud knocking noise started from under the hood of the car. The car suddenly died and we were able to merge out of traffic. Once the car died the engine light turned on. The car has 106,000 miles. Prior to this incident it had been serviced regularly, had no lights on, no leakage and nothing to indicate there was or would be a problem with the engine. I called kia coorperate who claims this specific vin was not part of the 2013 kia sportage engine recalls. There are 42 pages of consumer complaints with this almost identical scenario. Kia should be ashamed of what they are doing to people. This is a huge safety hazard with the vehicle dying suddenly at fast speeds and a huge financial burden. I am being quoted more then the value of the car to replace it with a used engine. Which very clearly will also have issues as these engines are faulty.
Engine seized due to crankshaft bearing failure.car was moving on a highway at 55 mph when it failed.car had to be towed to service station.
Driving 65 mph on freeway and suddenly all power is lost. There had not been any problems, no stalling, bucking, struggling.no check engine lights or system warnings.kia dealership service advised the engine, although it was full of oil and had absolutely no leaks, was about to seize.the tech couldn't tell me why he determined that diagnosis, such as piston, rod/lifter, metal shavings, block?? quoted$7,000 for replacement and more for a used engine (higher labor charges).advised that no one would ever replace engine in 2013 kia sportage; should just buy a new kia.i still owe nearly $7,000 on the loan and had expectations of 200,000+miles on a kia. Online i found a recall for the 2013 kia sportage engine for engine seizing, but he assured me that didn't cover my 2013 kia sportage engine that was "about to seize", even though it is doing the same thing. I will never buy another kia for this reason and will join the online forum petitioningthe nhtsa to issue an expansion of this recall.kia should make this right.

The engine was running and my husband was in our daughter's driveway.he put the car in reverse so our son-in-law could leave for work and the engine stalled (later finding out it seized). Not knowing the problem, they tried to jump start the car with no luck.we called aaa at 10am and to make a long story short, after 4 aaa calls, the car was towed to shorkey kia dealership.we had to pay $119 for a diagnosis.then were told the batter was bad ($172).after the batter was put i, we were told the starter was bad (didn't get that price).after the starter was put in we got a call that the car started and immediately the engine seized.because the same year, make, and model of the kia sportage had recalls that directly resulted in the engine seizing, we checked for this recall, but the vin number is not listed as a recall.how many recalls on the same problem must occur before another vin number is added to the list? my husband could have been on the parkway when the engine seized or in a dangerous location and could have been killed or in a wreck. Shorkey said kia is not covering anything and we need a new engine for $10,000.the car mileage is under 56,000 miles and it makes no sense that an engine should seize and be bad at this low mileage level unless there's a flaw in manufacturing, which there obviously is since other 2013 kia sportages have been recalled (the recall which caused other kias to have their engine seize as well.
Engine seized! vehicle was being driven on a highway and oil, engine and battery light came on simultaneously. Oil was fine, car stopped, made noises and would not work thereafter.
No check engine or oil light displayed. Engine has 183,936 miles. Engine started rattling while pressing accelerator and continued to get worse.
The vehicle kia sportage 2013 began with a strong noise in the engine, we take it to the mechanic and on having removed the lid of the crank, it saw metal particles and we decide to stop to investigate the reason and verify in internet a recall sc147 of the engine
Driving home on the highway at approximately 60 mph, car died with hardly anytime to pull to side of highway safely. I had the car towed to not one, but two auto repair shops. I was told the engine seized. World kia of joliet was the second shop, upon hearing about the recall on cars similar to mine. Of course just like everyone else, my car was not vin specific to the recalled cars, i was denied any assistance. My car has only 88,000 miles on it, and has been well maintained. I do find it fishy, that all the complaints on this site majority are for 2013 kia sportage's, has similar vin numbers, meaning they were made at the same distribution center.
The contact owned a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brakes were making an abnormal noise and were rusting. In addition, the vehicle was leaking fluid from the radiator. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that brake fluid was needed and the brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving, the contact smelled a burning metal odor. The contact stated that the oil was changed regularly every 3,000 miles. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Driving on the highway, loud noise from engine loss of power and oil leaking from engine. The vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway, had to abandon the vehicle and run to the side of the highway. Vehicle was towed to the repair shop. The engine was destroyed, a rod pushed through the block.very dangerous situation, was driving at highway speed when this happen, could have resulted in a bad collision. Contacted kia, they were no help, the vehicle has les than 70k miles and i'm a second owner. Kia could not have cared less.
I returned home from vacation driving down my street and vehicle shacked then stalled.the vehicle started back as i was able to get vehicle home. The next day vehicle wouldn't start so i bought a battwry cause it was no power to the vehicle. After replacing the battery vehucle still had no power. Towed vehicle to shop that monday and was advised my motor was locked up. I check online about my type of vehicles and learned there was a recall.i contacted kia dealership and was advised that my vin is not included in recall even though it done the same thing the recall advised would happen.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced due to a possible manufacturer defect during the manufacturing process. The contact received a document stating that the vehicle should not be driven. The contact drove the vehicle to vehicle to the residence and the vehicle stalled and was pushed into a parking spot. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was 175,000.
There is a recall on the engine of 2013 kia sportage engines seizing up. My 2013 kia sportage 4 cylinder motor seized up when i pulled up to a red light. I was in rush hour traffic as i was nearing the red traffic light. I had aaa tow vehicle to kia dealership in wilmington, being told it would cost $12,000.00 to fix.
Engine seized while driving on highway road.we were told that the crankshaft bearings had failed.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated while driving at 70 mph, the engine ceased. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with the engine needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The check engine and battery warning lights were illuminated. The contact exited the freeway and stopped by a nearby parking lot. The contact felt that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and had the vehicle towed to her residence. The contact's father inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. Stafford kia of fredericksburg (5204 jefferson davis highway, fredericksburg, va 22408, (888)736-2604) was contacted by phone however, the call got disconnected. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) as a possible solution to the failure however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact with a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
The contact's daughter owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving 10 mph, the vehicle loss motive power without warning. The vehicle was towed to the contact's friend's residence, who works as an independent mechanic, and diagnosed the vehicle with an engine. The battery, alternator, and starter were replaced however, the failure recurred. The dealer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact was informed that since the oxygen sensor recall was not repaired the manufacturer would not cover the engine repair. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
We experience an intermittent raw gasoline smell in the interior cabin of the vehicle.this problem started a few weeks after purchasing the vehicle and has persisted ever since despite 3 repair attempts at kia dealerships (22aug2012, 07jan2013, 30jan2013).because it is intermittent (occurring once or twice every couple weeks) and without an obvious pattern, the dealerships have been unable to reproduce the smell on the days we've brought the vehicle in.on the 3rd repair visit (30jan2013), the technician was "unable to verify smell, but inspected and found fuel around intake at the fuel injector bases."they replaced o-rings to attempt to fix the issue.for a week or so we thought the issue was fixed, but since the 3rd visit have on at least four occasions noticed a prominent raw gasoline smell in the cabin.the closest to a pattern that we've noticed is that on days when the smell occurs, it is strongest and most obvious when the vehicle is idling with the heater/ac fan on.we also think, but are not sure, that there may be a correlation with days involving precipitation (snow/rain).
The contact called on behalf of his daughter who owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The driver was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the engine seized. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer (westside kia, 23005 katy fwy, katy, tx 77450, (888) 284-4718) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled on the highway. The contact had to immediately exit the highway. The contact waited a few minutes, restarted the vehicle, and the engine began to produce smoke.the vehicle also leaked oil and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home and then towed to kia of augusta (1770 gordon hwy, augusta, ga 30904, (706) 312-9200) where it was diagnosed that the third rod arm of the crankshaft was fractured. As a result, the rod arm knocked a whole in the engine, which caused the oil leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and two complaints were filed with kia corporate. The failure mileage was 108,000.

Vehicle engine caught fire during use
When you climb hills like the one on interstate 20 or a small incline in our driveway the car want go the gas is mashed to the floor and instead of the car speeding up it slows down.doing 80 i-20 start up hill slows down to below 60mph. When you to start out of the drive way or from a stop sign you just barley mash the gas the car takes off likes its going to the fire.drive the car 2 1/2 miles and it will use 3/4 tank of gas.brakes grab when roads are not wet they are dry as the desert. 01-28-2015 jt's kia, the place we bought it from, said, "they found nothing wrong with the car and they did not do any work to the car 01-28-2015 got the car back from jt's they did do something about the brakes and the gas because the brakes are tighter than they were before we took it to them and the gas hand doesn't move like itdid. It still loses power going up hills on i-20 but not as bad as it did of course they weren't any as step as the one around exit 11 the grainteville exit.the car has a problem please help us i don't want my mother or my 14 yr old daughter hurt or killed becausethis is the only transportation we have and my 84 yr old mother whom bought this car andis scared to drive it because she is afraid thatshe & or my 14 yr daughter is going to be hurt real bad or maybe even killed in this car.please help us. My 2013 kia sportage caught fire while on the interstatethe gas pedal didnt work i pulled over and the car was smoking because it was on fire
When the batery is not charge damaged a/cis not cooling and the supensionis hard and damege the bottles
Rod bearing failed at 94,000. Car was driving on interstate hwy when engine seized.
Engine failed due to bearing failure

While driving car the engine ceased causing the car to stall with child in the car. The car with only 72,000 miles on it was taken to kia who refused to fix the engine under warranty. Was told there have been recalls for this same issue with other 2013 kia sportage cars but this vin was not associated with the engine recall. This car engine problem is a danger and could easily have resulted in a serious crash or death with the car stalling while driving on the road. Kia obviously has a known manufacturing defect in there engines, but continue to let people put their lives in jeopardy by not recalling their engines.
While driving motor suddenly starts knocking. Took to the garage was told motor could siez up any time wasn't safe to drive. They also said there was a recall on some motors for the same reason. My modlld was not included. I fel this is an issue that should be investigated further.
My 2013 kia sportage has 67,000 miles on it and the right fron axel has broken, additionally they think the transmission may be bad and they say my break pads, roters and tires are bad.i purchased two tires in 2016 and two in 2017 and drive approximately 10,000 miles a year. This car has never been in an accident and i am a very safe driver.this is not the first safety issue i have experienced with this car, twice the driver front door could not be opened, they fixed that at no cost but the fact that it happened twice and could be so dangerous should be noted. Supposedly i have a 100,000 - 10 year limited power train warranty but they are telling me i have to pay for everything and that they won't know about transmission until they replace axle. I think there needs to be a recall on these cars, this is very dangerous.i am dealing with kia of cape cod in south yarmouth, massachusetts

Thank you
Vehicle experienced loss of power while accelerating on the highway and making a dangerous left turn across two lanes of traffic.
I was pulling into a parking spot to park and my shifter would not go to park position. I tried to press in the button the side of the shifter to put it into park but it wouldn't press in as it normally does to change the gears. The only position it would go into was neutral or park and i was in a school parking lot where i needed to reverse to get back out of the space. I put it into nuetral which was the only option and was able to turn off the car but my key would not come out of the ignition in the neutral position. I had to leave the key in the ignition in nuetral turned off. I put my emergency break on hoping that would be enough to keep the car from moving. I was able to get a screwdriver from my childs school to release the lock switch on the shifter so that it would allow me to reverse the car out of the space but when i got home and put it in park, the shifter button was still stuck "pressed in" and would not allow me to take the key out of the ignition. I park on a hill so i had to use the emergency break with key still stuck in the ignition again to hopefully keep the car from rolling backwards into the street. My car is only 2 years old and acquired a lot of miles from moving from northern part of the u.s to southern part of the u.s and because of this move caused my mileage to go over the 60,000 mile standard warranty. I do have the powertrain warranty coverage up to 100,000 miles but the dealer is saying this isn't covered under the powertrain warranty.

Kia sportage 2013 plate. Complete brake failure on approach to junction despite pumping brake pedal. Resulted in crash and injuries sustained. Malfunction of ability to deactivate cruise control by applying brake in addition, on one occasion. Currently under investigation. Have informed manufacturer. Awaiting investigation outcome.
While attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle began to shake violently without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rotors were warped. The dealer repaired the rotors. While having an inspection performed on the vehicle, it was discovered that the brake pads, rotors, and calibers failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.
After around 13/14k miles, the front brakes began to make extreme noises like very loud sandpaper against metal when backing out of my garage. After the car ran a little bit, they would stop but then it progressed to a constant embarassing noise. I have had it back three times in which they either cleaned or sprayed the rotors. This last visit they have even put a graphite base on them. Two weeks since they did that application, here i am having the same problem even though they tell me the brakes are still good. They wanted to give me a goodwill replacement on the rotors and pads but wanted me to sign off that i would not have further claims. What if my problem is not the pads or rotors? i have owned 5 kia's since 2009 and have never had this problem on any of them. When i now apply the brakes hard, i get an internal grinding noise.
The front passenger side wheel bearings started to wear. They were replaced and seized up while driving. A new wheel bearings was replaced and repaired. Again it seized up while driving. Car is being towed to shop for third repair. It was recommended i look up recall on car noticed there was one recall and 114 complaints for same issue for 2011-2014 sportages.
My kia sportage was parked in the parking lot of my employer here in everett, wa.it was not a hot day, only around 78 degrees.when i returned to my sportage around 3:30 pm i noticed the front sunroof glass panel was completely shattered.it looked like an explosion happened.nothing fell on the glass, no vandalism.i had the cloth internal liner closed and that saved the interior from millions of pieces of glass.this sunroof (or panoramic glass panel) exploded on its own without anything contacting it.if i would have been driving this could have been a horrible accident.there are many other reports on the internet of similar explosions on kia and hyundai products.is there any safety investigations happening on this issue?this is a design flaw that needs to be addressed.
This vehicle is equipped with running board that are "flush" with the bottom of the doors. Any time there is snow or ice, while driving the snow and ice will build-up on the running boards and make it difficult to impossible to open any of the doors. If a quick exit were required in poor weather or in case of an accident, it would be impossible to exit. We have documented the defect with photos and contacted the dealer and auto maker repeatedly, and always receive the same message, "we are contacting our field technical engineer." however, we never receive any other correspondence. On one occasion, we had our grandchildren in the vehicle and literally could not get the doors open to get them out on a routine stop. Imagine our concern if an accident were to occur.
Interior door panels expanded due to weather (heat in california) and doors cannot be pulled open.in the event of a collision, passengers would not be able to get out of the car due to the expanded interior door panels.
I was driving 50mph on a windy day. A semi passed us and the air pressure imploded the front sunroof.there was no debris other than shattered glass in the interior.
Left rear wheel makes a noise like it's an old old car, as you driving low speed. Or even if it is stationary, it makes that noise as you get in or get out from the vehicle.can't pin point, where the sound coming from. Annoying.

Just watched a news release on nbc indicating the possiblity of a fire from the underside of vehicle. I'm concerned that this organization is dragging its feet on a recall. Endangering my family. Please do what needs to be done before more serious tragidies occur.
Trunk latch not working. Also had this happen in my kia forte. Needs to be recalled i am ticked
While driving the back drivers side window fell down and will not go back up
Driving straight down the highway in the mountains, the car stalled 3 times when i would let off the gas.
Motor went on on sportage 2.4 liter engine last night at wal-mart had to have suv towed to jt's kia in cola sc.they told my daughter that this vehicle is not under the recall list. Right before we pulled into the wal-mart parking lot (leesville sc) the car started making a funny noise as we were trying to find a parking space the noise got louder.a mechanic came up to my daughter & told her it sounded like the car is out of oil or water he cked both of these things & they were fine.he said its your motor or timing or spark plug wire.i called kia roadside asst & they told me my daughter the vehicle is still under warranty.the customer mechanic @ wal-marttold my daughter he wasn't touching anything else since the vehicle is under warranty but its more than likely the motor.
When i started the vehicle to start my ride home after christmas, i noticed a ticking sound that was not there before. While driving downinterstate 94 east as i was trying to accelerate, i was decelerating instead.luckily i was near an off ramp and pulled off.at the top of the ramp my vehicle died. I restarted the vehicle and got directions to a really nearby ford dealership in baldwin wi.nicest people helped me there.they determined that the engine was dying,. I had it towed to luther kia in bloomongton mg.there it was confirmed that i needed a new engine. At 149,000 miles i was surprised. There was nothing that gave me indicstion that there was a problem. No lights on the dash or anything except for the ticking an hour before.kia was contacted and denied any claim or responsibility. On further checking i found that i was not alone in the engine trouble. The 2013 kia shortage has had many other incidents and complaints about the engine. Many of thestories we exactly like mine. People driving down a highway and the engine died. People could have been killed. 2013 kia shortage owners should be made aware of this problem.shame in kia for not stepping up and taking responsibility, debra. Wisconsin
Saw that my car was leaking oil; took it in to get looked at, the mechanic showed me the oil pan was leaking from several areas and there was oil all over the oil pan itself. Did some research and saw that some kia sportages have been recalled for this problem. Called kia and they said my car is not included in the recall because it is a 2013 not a 2012.they told me i will have to get it fix myself and pay for it - keep the receipts in case it is ever recalled.
Sunroof of 2013 kia sportage randomly and violently exploded while driving down the highway.

Every time it rain or if i wash the car, lots of water and sitting in the door base when you open it and some are coming in the car, i have taking it to the dealership on four to five times and they have done something, but the problem is still not solve. It's more water in the two front doors than the back doors.
Tire valve stem rusted and broke off when i tried to remove cap to fill with air.
A/c began to blow warm air while driving. Occurred 4 times in 2 months. 3 times the refrigerant was found by the dealer to be low and the system recharged. 3 times dye was added to the system and no leak was found under black light. The system is believed to be a closed system and the possibility exists that the refrigerant used in the system is slowly venting into the air duct system and exposing the occupants to a potential hazardous product.
From park unable to turn key to start vehicle.this has happened four times in the last 6months.aaa was able to start it by turning key at same time trying to move steering wheel.
Malfunctioning back up cameradealer will not replace because under warranty because itworks intermittently
On june 26, car parked in shopping mall parking lot and car caught on fire (under hood) while i was at work.
'takata recall' gasoline smells coming from the oil dipstick when i checked the oil level i could smell gasoline inside my oil , my vehicle was stationed in my driveway under my carport.
The contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. The contact was traveling at an unknown speed during inclement weather when an unknown object stuck the top of the vehicle. The impact caused the sunroof glass to shatter and the sunroof area was cracked. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for repairs. The authorized dealer was not able to inform the contact of when the part would become available to complete the repair. The contact had been waiting for months for the repair part to become available. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 5000.
