The contact owned a 2011 kia sportage. While driving 25 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle swerved and crashed into a telephone pole. The air bags did not deploy. The contact fractured his sternum and received medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and deemed destroyed by the contact's insurance company. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was 61,000.

Airbag clock spring does not work properly. It has been recalled on other kia's but not mine. I was told to just turn the steering wheel to get the cruise to work, but don't know if that will make the airbag work in case of an accident if it's not fixed!!

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to city kia (9550 s orange blossom trail, orlando, fl) where it was diagnosed that the clock spring was faulty and a defective part would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned that the air bags would not deploy in the event of a crash. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,665.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. The contact stated that the transmission gear shift was stuck and would not move. The contact had to hit the gear shift button in order for it to operate. In addition, the radio malfunctioned and would not work and the key was stuck in the ignition. The contact had to hit the key with a screwdriver in order for it to loosen up. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 168,128.

Everyone i know there bluetooth will not work.most important the check engine has been on every time and it saids that is oxygen sensor it gets fix with in 7 months comes back again with the same issue.

2011 kia sportage at times won't start but all lights and radio and electrical stuff work. Had new battery put in and checked out it is not battery. It is doing this more and more and i have to let it set for long periods of time then it will start. It can't be boosted off either when this happens. Itstarted and has never stopped.please help.

Affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the park position and causing the electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light to illuminate. Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Kia will send an interim notification to owners in may 2013.***spoke to owner and they said there was no crash

My knob that turns the fan on or off quit working and it turns out that it was melted all the way inside and it was melted from the sparks that were occurring inside where they couldn't be seen

My car's shift button suddenly became stuck in the handle and i cannot "park" my car or turn off the key.i drove it to college, as i was stopped in the parking lot, with my foot on the brake, and pressed the button to put the car in park.the button pushed in and became "stuck or locked" in the handle.the car wouldn't do anything but go into n or d but nothing else.after pushing the shift lock button, i was able to get the car into park "kinda".the key won't turn past axl mode, therefore the keys are stuck in the ignition and the battery becomes drained.because i don't believe the car is fully in p, i set the park break and unhook the battery.

The vehicle intermittently does not start due to a faulty brake sensor safety switch.

The rear lights are turned on for night driving they all blink randomly as well as rear license plate light

We have had our car in to be serviced five times and the problems are still not fixed. The first problem was that it was randomly hesitating and there were a few times we almost were in an accident because the car would not accelerate. On one occasion the car would not go past 40mph with the gas pedal floored, we took it in and were eventually told that the problem was fixed, after my husband provided a few service bulletins to the aloha kia service dept. (on our second trip in)each time we have had our car "fixed" the problems have returned with more problems sometimes immediately after, sometimes in a day or two. We have yet to be told what is wrong. The following are problems we are experiencing: randomly not accelerating, the vehicle locking up in park, loss of power, a rolling feeling while driving, whining noise, grating feeling in steering and gas pedal, shifting is really loud and takes longer than it should, brakes are not reliable sometimes there is little resistance in the pedal, we are getting 200 miles to the tank, you can feel a pattern of bumps while driving it is like smooth bump smooth bump bump smooth bump etc... ( i do not know how else to describe it and we have not been told what is wrong) on the last occasion my car was serviced i was told everything was fixed and all of the problems tied into the brake system, the computer had to "re-learn" what it should know. I drove for three miles before experiencing the problems again, and they are getting worse. I feel the service dept. Does not want to address the real problem, there is a terrible defect with a major component(s) of this car. I have taken video of my instrument panel while driving to reflect the irregular shifting.

On interstate the cruise comes on by itself and hitting the brakes, turning to cruise off does not shut it off.it keeps excelerating 10 miles at a time. Happened 4 times.traveling 72 mph, turn onto exit car will not slow down, keeps excelerating. . car is dangerousdealer says never happened as the computer says cruise and brake never used.

While changing the driver side headlight bulb, i noticed that the connector had burned and that the wires going to the connector were not connected to each other due to the burning. I noticed when barely grabbing the back of the bulb, that the electrical harness for the main light would spark and started to smoke causing the headlamp enclosure to fill with soot and smoke. Small sparks can be seen when trying to remove the headlight bulb itself as well as when trying to adjust the wires. The passenger side wiring has no defects or damage.

I began having issues with my 2011 kia sportage not starting.at first i thought i didn't push the brake and push correctly.but this became more and more frequent as time went on.in april 2012, it didn't start 3 times in one day.i took it in to the dealer the next day and that morning it started for them to move it into their garage and it didn't start again for three weeks.the dealership nor tech support had any idea of what the problem was, so their next step was to begin replacing parts, first the fuse box under the dash, them several different computer parts.they ended replacing 5 different parts in the car before they got it started.when i asked what caused the problem, they said they didn't know and would be turning all the "replaced" parts over to the technical support dept to investigate the parts.i asked if they would let me know what the problem was when the tech folks completed their investigation.the service mgr told me that they would not ever be notified by kia tech about what caused the problem.i asked why, they said that kia just never tells them.so if the problem happens again, they have no way of identifying the issue for me or any other customer.i have no faith in kia motors nor their dealerships.

While driving car just dies in the middle of traffic going like 45mph coast off the road. No check engine light has fuel engine will turn over but not start.had it towed to the kia dealer july 17,2017 was told it could be one of two things the factory security system or the ecm so the dealer changed out the security system the problem still exist so ecm is next was told sorry there are no ecm,s for your vehicle in the us. Will have to check with the manufacture couple days later they tell me it has to be built there are none in stock and the earliest we will get one would be aug.23,2017. Today aug.24,2017 called to check on the status of the part and got a new date (a promise date) of sept.2,2017 but that's not guaranteed ?????this car just dying while going down the road in the middle of traffic is a safety concern and no parts available for over a month makes me wonder how many other people have experienced this same issue.my car has only 63000 miles on it.thanks for looking into this issue and all issues helping the consumers when the manufactures won't. Thanks again.

Was driving in cruze crontrol stepped on the gas and vehicle died. I pushed the start button nothing but a warning sign on dash screen that would go blank before i could see what it said. I lifted the hood and check the battery cables they were on tight got back in the truck push the button nothing smelled wires burning seen smoke top of my motors on fire. I was heading north on i-5 near the dupont exit.

Purchased vehicle at a reputable dealership in march 2019. On june 12,2020, vehicle would not start while stationary in the driveway of my residence. Roadside assistance diagnosed dead battery. Took vehicle to the kia dealership where i purchased the car to request new battery. They are stating that the car now needs a new battery and a fuel pump. I had no electrical or fuel related before june 12, 2020.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning in the middle of traffic. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice. During each failure, the contact smelled a burning odor through the ventilation system. The contact received assistance from bystanders and pushed the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to scott kia of springfield (321 baltimore pike, springfield, pennsylvania 19064, (610) 544-0100) where it was initially diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. Upon a second assessment, the dealer stated that the wires were loose in the vehicle, and that it was probable that animals/rodents had eaten away at the wiring of the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the wires were burnt. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 12749312. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

Check engine is on light.no power when you apply the gas pedal.this is the 3rd time the car is at the dealership for the same problem. Previously dealership scanned for codes.codes that where present indicated turbo boot control/position sensor and adjusted ewga rod.b.

Push button start would not engage - car was in park- after getting shifter to move - car started - took it to dealer replaced brake light switch - i see where uk hasrecalled 25k vehicles for this same problem including sportagenhtsa should also issue a recall on this modulewhile waiting another consumer reported same problem but had a recall on theirs.

As time wait on engine deteriorated the car would stop and not move, even while driving. Break lights go out every 3 months got a ticket because of it. Then radio burnt out , after those issue . I got the car brand new , all ways got oil changes as well as the tune ups. Took issue to kia and they kept saying everything was fine . After they worked on issues the bill was over 1000 . After all the workdone there is still problems with the car. See on credit karma my car has 5 recalls . I need a letter stating the recalls on my vehicle, because kia has not helped with the problems on the car and i can't afford getting more work done on the car. After showing them this app they still won't work on it with out a letter. Really need help thanks you.

The stop lamp switch in this vehicle intermittently malfunctions. The malfunctioning stop lamp switch has caused the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. Additionally, the malfunctioning stop lamp switch has resulted in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature. Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash.

The car was not running and smoke started to come out from under the dash on the drivers side. I popped the hood and there was no smoke present underneath. The car then started itself with no key in the ignition. The back rear lights came on and the rear window wiper started going. After about five minutes the car shut itself off. The smoke was getting worse. The radio was turned on and again there was no key in the ignition. I had to call the fire department and they disconnected my car battery along with spraying water on the fuse panel to get it to stop smoking. At that time i was told there was a short in the fuse panel which started the incident. I was told by the tow company that my vehicle was the fourth kia sportage that they had to tow for the exact same reason, a short in the fuse panel.

The vehicle must be jumped in order to start if it has been off for more than 2 hours. This began in november 2019. The battery and alternator both test fine. It will start if it's been driven more recently. Also, the check engine light comes on periodically, as does the tire pressure light, even though no issues are detected.

Engine light is on and no power when you apply gas pedal.dealer pulled codes for ob2 and found p2562 turbo boot control/position sensor.rest both adpat values.after resting and rebooting ecm drivers windows would not go up.asked dealer if car was safe to driver.dealer stated yes and said the only problem was the window.after pulling out on to a major busy 6 lane highway i discover i had no turns signals.pulled car off the road and checked to is what other lights where not working.i discovered i had no day time running lights, headlights, fog lights and power door locks did not work.dealer states bad bcm and replaced it.

When i placed the vehicle in reverse, it felt like the car lunged stopped and lunged again. The car did not move, because the brakes were still engaged. The review camera did not turn on. I backed out and pulled back into my spot, put the car in park, put it into reverse again, and the lunging occurred again. I checked the reverse lights, and they were not on. I proceeded to drive to my destination. While driving at 40 mph, i attempted to accelerate, the car revved to a high rpm, and then engaged the transmission causing the tires to chirp. I attempted several times to accelerate to proper speeds, and the high rev prior to engaging the transmission occurred every time. I noticed the gear indicator on the odometer display was missing. When i got to my destination, i turned off the vehicle. Then i turned it back on, and the vehicle was operating normally.camera, reverse lights, and gear indicator was working. I started driving and attempted a passing acceleration, with no issues. I did not take it to the dealer, because the vehicle is not having the problem at this time.

I was almost involved in an accident, because the horn of this vehicle is very low and there should be a recall> i was reading online and there are many other similar cases, where people just can't hear the horn. By the california law, the horn has to be heard by a minimum distance, i have not tested, but i don't think the horn in this car meets specifications. Very dangerous. I spoke to the dealer and they say the horn 'volume' is normal.

Brake lights inoperable, esc inoperable, cruise control inoperable, transmission stuck in park. Upon starting the vehicle i noticed 2 warning lights remain lighted. I looked in the manual of the vehicle and learned the warning lights for the esc.i continued to attempt to operate the vehicle by shifting the transmission interlockl lever into the "reverse" position. However, i was unable to move the transmission interlock lever. Upon researching that issue i learned i could utilize a manual override to switch into gear. I did this and upon driving the car home i realized the cruise control no longer worked and that the brake lights were not working via other drivers.

Since buying this car 12/26/10 i have had a number of sensors and switches malfunction and needing replacement. Warning lights coming on and going off and dealer could not pull up codes to why they came on. I had problems where the car would not start. I'm having steering and suspension problems right now. Waiting on kia engineers to come inspect the car since dealer can't find or fix the problem. Car tends pulls to one side. Since brakes were replaced the car is hard to stop. I have had issues with the gps. Gas gage sticking. The car at time hesitates when trying to get up to speed to get on the freeway, like it has no power. Right now i don't feel safe driving my car. The front end just feels unstable. All work done on my car is done thru the dealer. It seems my car is back at the dealer for one repair or another several times a year. Sometimes days at a time. Longest its been in the shop was 9 days. I was not expecting this many issues with a new car.

My knob that turns the fan on or off quit working and it turns out that it was melted all the way inside and it was melted from the sparks that were occurring inside where they couldn't be seen

I'm trying to check if my vehicle was recalled cause it's been driving really weird and then i heard that 2011 kia sportage were being recalled and trying to find out if that's what's causing the problems

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the engine completely shut off and the brake lights illuminated. The engine restarted after pushing the button without engaging the brakes. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

My engine has metal shavings coming up. Should this be a recall? i was driving when i heard all kinds of noises. I was going about 30mph.

I have an oil pan leak that is referred to in the interim notice sent to me ( nhtsa recall # 19v101 )that the dealer doesnt have the recall listed in there system yet & cannot fix my vehicle at no charge.i need vehicle to be serviced before it does major damage to my engine how do i proceed to get this done per the recall?

2.0 liter turbocharged engine failed catastrophically without warning rendering vehicle undriveable.

One day my ex wife drove what is now my 2011 kia sportage home, which she said ran fine up until that point. The next day she went out to start it and from the sound it was making the bottom half of the engine was turning and the top half was not, which we have verified that slack appears to be present in the timing chain upon taking the valve cover off to inspect. I am seeing hints of engine recalls on this year kia on this website and am worried that my car may be one of an unidentified batch of cars that have had that problem, which if i continue to fix the timing chain on my car would likely repeat the problem in the near future as if this is true the underling problem would not have been fixed. This car has been parked for over two years as i have not been able to get this repair completed yet.

While driving at 40 mph my car just shut off. I had it towed to my mechanic and it was diagnosed as a seized engine. I had no indications of any issues prior to this happening. I still owe money on this vehicle and kia wont do anything about it because it is not part of the engine recall.

Son's 2011 kia sportage lx, with 155,000 miles, would stall when coming to a stop, or idling. Car would intermittently restart. Car engine sounds awful, like particles grinding. Engine light was not on. Local mechanic said when they were working on it, the engine light came on, and the diagnosis reported mass air flow sensor issue. Upon further diagnosis, mechanic concluded new engine needed. We are sending the car to the kia dealership, for further evaluation. Nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000. Why wasn't our car's vin included in this recall, which is "bearing wear may result in engine seizure?" is this why our engine needs to be replaced???? who do i contact for help?

My wife was driving down the road new years day, and the lights flickered and the engine died.after getting it towed to a garage, they told us the motor was blown.we then called kia usa and they informed us to have it towed to a kia dealership and to inform the dealership to follow their instructions they had from kia usa. So we towed it to a dealership in our area and let me tell you, this has been the worst experience i have ever had.the dealership is not helpful, they have talked down to my wife, making her cry, and they told us that they have preference for people that bought their car from them.we didn't buy it from them, so apparently, it's alright to treat us like we are complete morons.we are now down a car and the dealership has no empathy and could care less.we need help.

Everyone i know there bluetooth will not work.most important the check engine has been on every time and it saids that is oxygen sensor it gets fix with in 7 months comes back again with the same issue.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While driving approximately 25 mph, thecheck engine light illuminated and the brakes failed. The contact ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle. The frontal air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. There were no injuries. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

My car started getting bad gas mpg and loss of power and check engine light was on regarding 2 bad camshaft position sensors.kia dealer checked the car and said the sensors simply needed replaced.i replaced the sensor and car problems got worse.engine makes ticking noise when running.kia service had no solution.after about 1 to 2 months i was driving the car on the highway and the car engine stopped and everything went dead.i had to shift into neutral and steer the car to the shoulder of the road fortunately avoiding an accident.i had problems with the car stalling while driving at least 50 to 100 times while stopped and while moving in the last 4 months.i had the car towed to the kia dealership service department.after a day i was contacted by the service technician and told the engine was seized up and i would have to purchase a new engine ($4500+).i've asked multiple times through the dealership and kia corporate what caused the engine failure but they refuse to give me a reason for the failure or investigae why the car continually malfunctioned and then died.the dealership said they would look for a cause if i paid them$1500 up front.bottom line what happened to my car is the exact same as detailed in kia recall sc147.kia refuses to recognize this, says the vehicle is out of warrenty and i'm simply screwed.i'm not paying $4500+ for a new engine when they can't even tell me what went wrong with the first one.kia says my car has mpi fuel injection and the recall sc147 only covers cars with gdi fuel injection.the problem with that is that recall sc147 has nothing to do with the fuel delivery system. Despite communication with highest levels of kia america and the dealership i've been told repeatedly that kia will do nothing for me.kia stated that my car engine to seize up and die at 78,000 is completely acceptable to kia.

I've been experiencing issues with my engine for over 5 years on my 2011 kia sportage that are same issues described for the sc147 recall with the bearing wear issue. It's extremely unsettling to drive on the highway as this is only when the problem occurs at a higher speed (anything over 60 mph). I will be driving at speed and the engine for a split second with stall out and shoot right back to the high speed. The car jolts and the engine light will flicker. If you continue to drive the problem increases and happens more along the route unless you drop down to 50. However after you continue to drive the car will begin to shake and if you slow down it idle's very loud and as if to stall and the engine light will come on and remain on. Once the car is shut off and allowed to sit all problems go away until the next time.for 5+ years i have complained of this issue with the dealership and never have they found a problem. My vin is not listed on this recall but can it be the same problem?

Kia recall - sc 147.this relates to the kia engine safety recall campain sc147 regarding the engine.on 7/14/2017 i was driving my vehicle on the highway at it just stops while going 45mph.luckily i didn't have an accident.before this happened, my engine started making this loud tapping sound.i was finally able to make it to my residence but was too afraid to even drive the car.i didn't know anything about the safety recall until i did some research.i called kia and found out that my vin was part of the recall.i called my preferred dealer and they weren't already back logged regarding this recall.subsequently, after getting my vehicle towed, i was informed that my engine blew up even before kia could perform this test.my fear is that more cars will be affected and there are several customers (including myself) that have not received notices about this recall.many dealers are not handling this properly per the interim notices by kia (ie providing transportation to customers, etc)

My car stopped running while in use. My brakes worked but not my gas. I could not accelerate and was in danger of being hit.consumer stated metal got caught in the engine and consumer ended up buying a new car.

We own the car, 2011 kia sportage sx t-gdi, for less than 3 months and i had to take it to the dealership pretty much every other week with some issues. Last problem we had was an accelerator/speed control when the car wasn't shifting or accelerating over 25-30 mph even the rpm were up to 6-7x1000, and i was able to floor the pedal and keep it there, was no speed response. The only fix was pull over and shut off the engine, but even after that it could take several times to do the same procedure.i finally got an appointment to the dealership on tuesday morning 11nov14, pick it up thursday afternoon 13nov14, they said i had a bad battery that might cause the problem. So i end up paying for a new battery and replacing it, and at the same time the dealers replaced a brake lamp switch, and i was told everything works great.next morning on friday, same issue with the speed control, vehicle is driving unusual and on top of that the check engine light came on. Called the dealers immediately they said if the light is not flashing its safe to drive and there are no appointments available until monday 17nov14. Sunday driving around the car had the same problems all day long and that evening coming home after filled up the tank, at about 25mph speed control was giving me a hard time and shifting at a very delayed times or not shifting at all, approaching an intersection tried to stop and the brake seized first couple times, accelerating instead of stopping, and when already entering the intersection being slippery i was able to do a slightly left sliding on the wet road after brakes finally engaged but was to late to avoid the collision with another car which had the right of way. Same problem, check engine light on, car not working properly, the dealer's service said its good to go! safe and drive-able.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact discovered oil leaking under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to american eagle auto (820 us highway 1 n, woodbridge, nj) where it was diagnosed that the engine oil pan was faulty and needed to be replaced. The oil pan was replaced, but the failure recurred approximately three months later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 100,000. The vin was unknown.

Ive been losing oil due to a leak from oil pan, noticed as of 2/1/20 my 2011 sportage has been making a knocking sound as well as loss of fuel economy and inconsistent idle sounds. Contacted kia with these symptoms in response to a recall 19v101000 that was issued on 2/15/2019 and asked if that was the possible issue. They told me my vin didn't match the recall requirements and said id have to pay for any engine failure repair and that my recall work was up to date.however i do have all my recall repair paperwork and theres nothing in there regarding that kind of recall.

During a return trip i suddenly hear a clicking noise coming from the engine bay area so i pulled over and parked the car for a quick check and while the noise persisted i needed to find a safer location so i drove off and eventually found a safer place to park but the noise was even louder as tho a rod was thrown and by the time i found this parking spot the car had lost all power.this happened so suddenly and without warning as a few hours prior there was no indication of any engine problems.

So i had pretty much a full day of driving and my manual transmission 6 speed 2011 sportage, that until today the only problem i noticed was that sometimes to me it felt like when i up shifted or began to go into first that it wasn't going all the way into gear; and at times on the highway it wasnt accelerating normally and my gas mileage is about 50m less per tank than it has been the past 5 mo.(financed to buy as of march). According to the dealership only 1 previous owner and i'm not sure what work had been on it prior to the dealership we are buying through. So today car use in town running completely normal since 11am then suddenly around 6:30 started making all kinds of noise to me a knocking sound plus an almost like revving sound mixed in. We came straight to a gas station and checked the oil with yellow dipstick, as we are almost due for a change, added about a half a quart and started it again to run the oil thru and same sounds but louder. We then turned it back off called a mechanic friend and he came and said without taking anything apart he felt it could b a rod. I then called my mom to come pick up my 3 young kids with me to take them to her house out of the tx heat while we attempt driving home. Started it up again around 8:30 to head the half mile home and very faintly could hear still a knocking and accelerated slowly. Im mot a car genius or anything but not knowing the vehicles personal history prior to march of this year i am worried to drive on highway the 40-50 mile distance to get to the nearest kia workshop. I absolutely loved my soccer mom car until today and now im afrraid to drive it after reading the recalls. Is my vehicle a part of any recall? my clutch it new and my fuel pump as well according to the dealership we are buying through so i know it isnt that. Just want to feel safe and have my commute back to normal again...what's going on??

Engine was seized at 109272 miles. Engine number: g4keah41 is a 2.4l 16 valve dohc i4..car was not turning over initially, but after about 19 seconds would start.after a few days the check engine light came on and was told the code was for the camshaft position sensor and it needed replaced.two days later and the day of the auto appointment to get it checked and fixed the car wouldn't start at all.after towing it to a repair center they said that two valves were completely blown and the engine needed replaced.towed it to a kia dealer (arapahoe kia) and they said the engine also needed replaced.7214.76 plus towing and rental car fees for approximately 1.5 months of it being in shops.some of these engine are under recall, but i was informed mine didn't count so i moved on... Recent news reports lead me to believe that my engine should be part of this recall and that's why i'm reporting now.

Has happened several times. Will be driving and the engine doesn't pull like normal just happens whenever no warning. Driving interstate or county roads speeds typically between 50-70mph.the rpm goes down to 0 and engine won't race if you give it gas. If i'm at a red light it will noticeably sputter. I usually have to find a safe place to pull off the road turn the car off and back on. This has been a quick fix. I want to know if there's a recall but i have not received anything in the mail.

Engine shut down in the highway causing loss of power steering/brakes. Car has less than 80k miles, all oil changes performed per spec recently adter switching to full synthetic oil changed every 5000 miles. Engine seized. Very similar to hyundai recall issued 9/25/2015. Same engine manufactured in the same plant with a different name badge.

Second catastrophic failure of 2.0 liter turbocharged engine in less than 30,000 miles service.

There currently is a recall on certain 2011 kia sportages with the engine bearings prematurely wearing and causing the engine to seize.i have a 2011 sportage that is showing signs of this. Twice, my sportage has just shut down while my son was driving it.luckily,he was able to coast off the side of the road and wait for help.there is no indicator that the engine is going to shut off.after taking it to my mechanic, and him looking into the problem, he told me that this looks like the recall problem that kia has on these vehicles.unfortunately, after looking into this myself, the recall does not include my vin number, so, i was told by my kia service manager that kia might not be able to do anything.my mechanic and i are almost certain that the problem i am having with my car is why there is a recall.this is a dangerous situation when you are driving and have no idea when the engine is going to shut off.i have 126,700 miles on my car and i know that the warranty has expired.therefore, i am looking at the recall and wondering if there are more cars out there that are just shutting off on them.please advise what i can do and why isn't my vin number included in this recall if it is also showing the same signs.

Randomly loses throttle control.has happened on a freeway, on surface streets and at stop signs.throttle goes immediately into idle rpm (approximately 800-1000 rpm).loss of acceleration ability when maneuvering in traffic.almost collided with other vehicles.kia dealership looked for fault codes in computer but could not find any.numerous entries on internet about this.active fault codes go inactive after 3 successful restarts.dealer not allowed to look at inactive codes.has happened several times over 2-3 years.kia factory service is aware of this.their case # is 2524267.

Engine seized with out warning, while driving on highway at 60mph

Kia currently has a recall (sc147) on 2011 kia sportages where the oil pan gasket leaks and can cause an engine fire. My vehicle was diagnosed with the same issue as the recall however my vin doesn't appear on the recall list. I will attach the repair quote issued by my local dealer. I contacted kia in good faith to have them reimburse me for said repairs but they are refusing. Their recall is not complete and my vehicle only has 76,000 miles on it. I am currently driving the car but if kia has admitted there is a fire issue with the car, shouldn't they fix it?

I purchased this car as first owner.i maintained my car at dealership service department where i purchased my car.starting july 2016, my car engine would shut down randomly as i was slowing down at traffic light or freeway ramp light.this was not expected.i was really shocked and scared that someone would rear-end my car.i brought the car to dealership service three times.they can't fix it and claimed there was no check engine code for them to follow-up on.it got worse as i drove the car on the freeway about 60 mph for about 20 minutes.the engine would seized.it felt like the engine exploded.it was super scary and unsafe.i felt like the car could freeze and possibly roll-over.i brought it to the dealership service again.they said it was the map sensor and changed it.however within a week, the check engine light came on and it was pointing to the map sensor that they just changed out.i saw kia sportage is having a recall.however, the dealership service department said my car was not part of the recall.yet the issues described on the recall were so similar to my car's issues.i am truly worried that my life and my family's lives would be in jeopardy if i continue to drive this car.dealership service department only pushes me around to other dealership service without fixing the issues.i really don't want to die in a car accident that's not caused by my fault but the car's malfunctioning power-train/ engine/ other issues that the dealership won't fix even if the warranty is still open and valid.please help!(if invoice documents are needed, i can contact my dealership service department.i only kept my payment receipt on visa card statement)

My son was driving on route 1 in delaware at around 60 miles an hour. Route 1 is a 2 lane highway. The car shut offwhile he was driving at the above mentioned speed. After several attempts to start the car we had to get the car towed to my mechanic. My mechanic did a diagnostic on the engine and told me the engine had locked. He said the engine wasn't getting the proper oil flow to it.

On june 18th car was making ticking noise. Checked oil, oil full. No dash warning indicators on. Drove to work and on drive home from work vehicle began making noise, engine began making noise, sounding like bolts tumbling in a dryer. Maximum speed home 25mph. Local mechanic looked at vehicle and said without tearing motor apart he believed the bearing was gone. Contacted dealership where purchased and was told to bring it there to be diagnosed. On july 10th their diagnosis was 0 psi on all four cylinders. Requires replacing the engine. Repair quote given was: short block plus parts was $10,584.42 or used long block $6,558.24. On 18th received important safety recall #19v101. Dealership responded by telling me that recall was not the problem. Purchased extended warranty agreement on date of purchase 10-10-2017. Warranty was for 120 months or 125,000 miles. Car has 125,235 miles currently on it.

I'm trying to check if my vehicle was recalled cause it's been driving really weird and then i heard that 2011 kia sportage were being recalled and trying to find out if that's what's causing the problems

2011 kia sportage - engine failed without warning with two toddlers in car. Luckily this happened as i turned off a highway and was able to stop on the shoulder. Manufacturer refuses to fix because i don't have maintenance record. I have a friend who has been changing oil/servicing car. I have learned that many owners of this year/model car have similar experiences. I feel the manufacturer should deal with a problem as severe as this immediately!

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While driving 60 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer (james wood hyundai 2110 us-287 decatur, tx 76234) informed the contact to have the vehicle inspected by the kia manufacturer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

Engine is broke

Due to the inability to start my 2011 kia sportage one day, it was brought in for a diagnostic which determined that the timing chain had come loose resulting in major engine damage.the list of problems is very long (gaskets, bolts, spark plugs, timing chain, valves, cylinder head, etc.) and if this were to happen while driving - it could have resulted in an accident.the repair shop says this is not the first 2011 kia sportage engine they have repaired with this same issue, and believes it is happening possibly due to poor engine design (and may happen again in the future even with the best parts).the vehicle was stationary when the problem was discovered, so there were no injuries as a result.

My car with 87,942 well maintained miles all of a sudden blew the engine and caught fire.recall on certain models with the same year with cam bearings letting go internally.i'm still currently paying on the vehicle.i got ahold of kia national motors and they seemed like they were going to help me fix problem or give decent trade in value, that was six months ago.one of my children needs to make doc.appt. Every other weekend.i'm getting very perturbed with the whole situation.the company won't even let me know what there doing,i told them just let me know what your plans are so i can at least take a lose" witch is real crappy" but i need to get a vehicle but they will not get ahold of me

I originally brought my vehicle in for service for a noise coming from the timing chain area which sounds like slack in the chain at 1100 rpms and the worst being with the engine cold. I have had the timing chain and guides, a few sensors, and camshaftphaser replaced chasing this noise and a few thousand dollars in; my mechanic now hears a noise coming from the engine in the lower part of my third cylinder. He believes it should be part of the 17v224000 campaign but my vin does not show up on the recall. My mechanic does a lot of over flow work for our local kia dealership and i tend to believe him.

Engine light came on, smelled smoke, and thought i saw smoke coming out from where the engine is located, this happened while i was driving home from work. I was on my way to grocery store. I came out of store to leave and car would not start. Car will not stay running unless you use gas pedal and brake at the same time. I was able to drive it to the dealership 3 weeks ago! it is still in the shop. I have gotten the run around as to exactly what the problem is, they said the timing chain was way off, and they also ordered other parts kia "approved" but tried to order more parts that they thought would help my car so the man said but kia denied the request for those. I do not have an itemized list yet of specifics. The car only had 67,000 miles on it when this happened. Yes, i have the 100,000 mile limited warranty and will fight them tooth and nail if they attempt to charge me a dime for an engine problem. It was always in the shop for routine maintenance when needed. I am concerned this is one of the vehicles even though it is not on your list of dangerous kia's. Dealership has told me it was probably the timing chain that gave off the "fire" smell and there would be a bit of smoke. I do not know if this is true. I have attempted to reach out to kia and get some answers but i am getting the runaround there as well. I wanted to start this early just in case. I will find out on monday if the car is fixed, and at that time i should have paperwork to send to you. Help! how are we supposed to know if this is one of the old engine recalls i saw happened a few years back that i was not informed about? or if the 2011 lx sportage is a fire hazard vehicle as well?

On startup smoke coming from under hood and sometimes odor of gasengine excessive oil burning..

The engine is running rough.i hear knocks and pings when i try to go over 50.local city driving the engine is calm. Recently had new spark plugs put in.gas mileage has really not improved.i have concerns that this engine will seize up.i am now reading about sc147.i checked with my local kia dealer and there is no immediate recall for this vehicle.i have set an appointment for april 10th to do further diagnostics.the local dealer seems to not care which worries me before even taking this car in.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While the contact was pulling into the driveway, the vehicle would not shift into park. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to kia of bedford (18180 rockside rd, bedford, oh 44146, (440) 735-400) where it was diagnosed that the battery was defective. The contact was informed that they repaired the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that it needed a new engine and transmission. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v101000 (engine); however, the dealer never informed the contact of the recall and stated that she would be financially responsible for all repairs on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 86,000.

The engine blew up in my 2011 kia sportage. It had just a little over 100,000 miles on it. I'm told that it is not one of the engines that have been recalled and i feel that it should be. I was driving into work and was stranded. I could hear a loud banging noise as i was driving into work. So i took it to a local mechanic and he said that the engine had blown up. I had to have it taken to my home on a flatbed.

Pierde fuerza y le suena mucho el motor

I have a 2011 kia sportage ex awd. I was driving on the interstate when the check engine light came on followed by knocking and then my engine seized. Totally locked up.my engine is a theta ii but it's the mpi engine. Took it to dealership who told me it's not under recall so i'd have to pay for a new engine.i'm finding hundreds of posts online from owners with the same engine that i have having the same problem.why is there no recall for these engines?canada has already included them in its recall.

Kia has recalled some of the 2011-2012 kia sportage line due to an oil pan leakage issue.my 2011 kia sportage suffers from an oil pan leak, as reported to me by my oil change shop, but was not included in the recall when i view the vin report.

Takata recall im having loss power and has died on me three times in last few weeks and running out pinging noise and running rough it has about 85,000 miles on it and i kept up all the maintenance on this car.

123000 miles started knocking and engine seized. Car is garbage

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. The contact stated that an abnormal rattling noise was heard from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the bushings needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 15,000....updated 02-28-14 the consumer stated at 10,000 miles the rubber bushings which held the exhaust on the body of the vehicle had worn out. The bushings became so flexiblethat the exhaust would constantly hit the frame. 4 out of 5 of the bushings were replaced. 5,000 miles later the failure reccured.updated 03/19/2014

I have a 2011 kia sportage. I received a recall letter from kia on 2019that my oil pan needed replaced. The letter stated that if left unfixed it could cause damage to the engine.i took it to the kia dealer they replaced it free of charge. Several months after the car started to make a loud knocking sound from the engine. The car started to feel as if it would not fully go on excelration. I called the kia dealer several time. They notified me of a kia engine recall however told me the vin number doesn't qualify. The service manager told me i could schedule a diagnostic test for the car but i would need to pay $150 service fee. Icancelled the appointment and scheduled with a private mechanic due to services manger telling me i am responsible for the fees. I was unable to take my car to my mechanic because the car stopped working the following morning. I was driving on the interstate and the engine starter bri make a loud knocking sound. The car just stopped on the interstate. When i pressed the gas to excelrate . I had the car towed to the kia dealer who told me the engine is stuck and was not worth replacing. My husband and i decided to leave the car at the dealership and followed up with kia consumer affairs. They 30 days later sent a letter that they will replace part of the engine but i would be responsible for the service fee around $2200 pretax. I don't feel this issue is handled appropriately. I believe the engine failed as part of the safety recall. The car is 2011 and had a defective oil pain until 2019. I believe this is what caused my engine to fail. I do not believe that kia has been honest about the recall or fairly handling the issues.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While driving approximately 25 mph, a sudden clanking noise occurred before the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine had blown. The vehicle was towed to blaise alexander kia (2501 lycoming creek rd, williamsport, pa) where it was diagnosed that the engine seized due to a faulty motor rod. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The contact was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine). The contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 70,000.

I was driving 65mph on the freeway and all of a sudden i have no power. I press acceleration to the floor and it done nothing.code p200a intake manifoldcode p420 exhaust manifold i couldnā€™t go no faster than 25/30 mph on an incline. I live in west virginia so thereā€™s inclines every few miles. Iā€™ve been looking on the internet and iā€™m not the only one that is experiencing this. It needs to be fixed asap. And dealershipā€™s charge an arm and a leg for things like this. The parts alone are expensive. I believe it is going to get worse before it gets any better. So my opinion and many others say it needs to be a recall on the 2011 kia sportage 2.4l i4 fi dohc 16v. Thank you for your time.

My car is having issues related to recall sc147. I understand this recall was issued recently, but my vin does not show the recall when i research it. I'm worried that i will be declined service simply because my vin doesn't show up in the database. What can i do to get my vehicle serviced? can you add my vin to that list?

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While driving, the contact noticed smoke under the hood and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to lancaster county motors (5250 main st, east petersburg, pa) where it was diagnosed that the motor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v101000(engine). Approximately seven months later, the owner received a notice indicating that the vin was included in the recall. The failure mileage was 150,000.

105,000 miles vehicle started to make lower engine noise as (metal chain noise) notified dealer about this issue. 2.4 engine recall and vehicle is not listed for the engine recall. Vehicle is still making noise 176,000

I feel my vehicle is accelerating by it self sometimes it jerks when i am in freeways i feel vibrating engine when is stationary it's the second time when i stopped a red light and my vehicle turned it self without warning i don't know what is going on

Entering expressway problem excelleratingto safely enter highway.

I'm experiencing the same bearing wear issue that the engine recall is for but my vin is not listed within the recall. I will be driving at speed and without warning the engine will stall out for maybe 1 to 2 seconds and then pick back up at the speed i was travelling at. In certain instances when this happens the check engine light will come on and the car will idle extremely rough until the engine is shutoff and allowed to sit for a few minutes before being restarted. I feel this is the exact complaint that the recall was issued for but my car is not listed in the recall. I feel the recall is very limited in it's scope and the recall should be extended to further vin numbers.

Engine heatings and cooling

Check engine is on light.no power when you apply the gas pedal.this is the 3rd time the car is at the dealership for the same problem. Previously dealership scanned for codes.codes that where present indicated turbo boot control/position sensor and adjusted ewga rod.b.

Dealer claims they referred to previous service history. Check engine light was on. When depress gas pedal car does not responded.this is the same problem i had on july 13, 2011.dealer scanned for codes.did not state in work order which codes where present. Called kia tech line. Adjust turbo, inspect and adjust ewga rod on turbo. Road tested.cleared codes and road tested again ok.car was out of commission from august 1, 2011 at roughly 8:00 am until august 4 2011 at 3:30 pm when dealer called and said car was ready for pickup.consumer e-mailed invoice and tsb. 08/08/11

Push button start would not work due to faulty brake light switch. This model year is not on the recall list as most other year models for this problem but should be. Problem clearly extends past 2010 year models.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. The contact stated the driver and passenger side turn signal lights were extremely small, making it difficult for other drivers to see when the signal light was flashing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,100. The vin was not available.

The rear lights are turned on for night driving they all blink randomly as well as rear license plate light

The brake lights don't reduce to let another driver know that you are stopping.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While the vehicle was stationary, the brake lights malfunctioned and the cruise control stopped working. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

This vehicles only rear turn signals are two small rectangles down in the rear bumper. When i contacted the dealership service center, they confirmed that the turn signals don't signal in the tail light area like almost every (if not every) other vehicle on the road.

Step on gas, rpm goes up but no acceleration, at times can not get over 35mph. On even terrain with cruise engaged speed will drop and then rev back up.this only happens occasionally.have been back to the dealer x3but with no engine codes fired they can't locate the problem. Safety concerns of not being able to maintain speeds on interstates and county roads.several consumer forums state common concerns relating to possible turbo, transmission and/or gas line issues.kia not responsive to consumer concerns.

I purchased a 2011 kia sportage mar 2011 w/ 12 miles on it. The mpg range on the window sticker was 22 city/27 highway (18 min/32 max). Shortly after the gas mileage was poor. I drove the vehicle for 500 miles figuring that should break it in and hoped the gas mileage would improve.it didn't, but got worse.i returned to the dealer in may, the vehicle had 504 miles on it and was getting 12 miles per gallon. Dealer ran a fuel consumption test and ecm upgrade stating that should fix the problem.i drove it another 700 miles but the mileage didn't' get better.the service mgr stated that a bcm upgrade was performed and that it was getting 29.3 mpg on the highway and 24.5 mpg in the city.i have never mpg in the 20 range.it has been in the teen range on the computer & in actual calculations.the service dept mgr told pay no attention to the computer on the car, yet it has been accurate w/ the actual mileage.we drove the vehicle out of state, the mpg was not consistent. Upon our return from our highway trip the mpg dropped significantly to range from 13.3 to 15.70 driving in city. We returned the car a 3rd time in aug 2011, the dealer did a fuel consumption test again.they had my car for 11 days.the only thing they did was replaced the computer on the 2nd to the last day not knowing what else to do. Continuing to drive the car, the highest mpg i got was 16.89 mpg. When i fill up the gas tank, the computer on the car shows that i should be getting 308 or 309 miles on the tank of gas, by the end of the tank, i only get ~ 200 mpg.no explanations are given for this. I lose 100 + miles per tank.i filed a lemon law case and lost because this wasn't a safety issue.kia usa has refused to deal with the issue at hand. Since there are no "codes" being issued by the car, kia says there is nothing they will do.as of today june 2012, the mpg is still 15.87 mpg.

2011 kia sportage at times won't start but all lights and radio and electrical stuff work. Had new battery put in and checked out it is not battery.

The car hesitates upon acceleration from zero turning into traffic. It is very scary and happens often.. The dealer (evergreen kia) was notified on nov. 29, 2012.

Shifting from 1st to 2nd clutch pedal lost tension and went to floor.luckily we were at low mph and were able to pull over to call for assistance. Successfully was able to place in neutral.car still running. This could have been disastrous if we were in another gear at higher rpm.kia should address the clutch cable issue.

My sportage 2011wasstuck in 4th gear and did not shift back to first, so i drove straight to the dealership in 4th and now i dont have a substitute car since a whole week i know i gonna take for long.my car was 23k miles at the time.

I have taken the vehicle into the shop multiple times, for the problem, and they had trouble duplicating the problem as the vehicle had warmed uptransmission repair shop is currently replacing temp sensor as the vehicle is repeating the issue and also stored code related to the problem.this vehicle has had multiple recall related issues, including the engine seizing (which was replaced under recall) which damaged the turbo (also replaced as part of the engine recall). Also, the brake switch light has been replaced multiple times (only once for free) due to failure (related to a recall on that as well).thank you,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The car has awd and the rear wheel drive coupling fails without warning leaving only front wheel drive. I live in wisconsin and this was discovered during a snow storm, the car got stuck trying to pull out onto the road front wheels spinning with no rear wheel assist. There was no traffic close but you have the expectation of all wheel drive and drive the car with that expectation so the potential for an accident due to the car not gaining traction when needed is there.

I was park in the parking garage of my work place. The time was between 7:10am to7:15am. I put the car in park. I stepped out of the car to get my purse and other bag on the ground. I left car on cause i was listening to a song. I was looking for an app on my phone to see what song was playing. I then walked around to other side to get a book that was in passenger seat. I walked back to driver side stood there a minute or two still searching for app on phone all sudden my car starting to roll back. I tried to stop the car by trying to get in car too fast door hit me knock me down my legs got caught under door flip me completely around. Then crash to wall of the garage. My back got injured. My car tail gate got damage. I do not know what could of cause the car to roll while parked. There is a little incline in the garage. Called kia consumer protection. They stated no recall right now problem. The recall of some switch has been fixed but they wi. Investigate. Please see if any other owner of a sportage has had a similar problem. Thank you

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. The contact stated that the shift lock malfunctioned. The contact stated that the failure was once corrected but recurred recently. The failure prevented the vehicle from being placed in park. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was told that the shift lock pressure switch needed to be replaced. The contact was concerned because he stated that the dealer advised him that the part would most likely fail again. The failure mileage was unknown.

Viscous coupling fail at 40 000 miles replaced under warranty after a year fail again replaced under warranty after a year failed again now i need to replaced it again

The contact owns a 2011 kia spotrage.the contact stated while attempting to accelerate from a stop sign, the vehicle took approximately 10 seconds to respond. The contact stated that the failure recurred later that day. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was awaiting repairs. The dealer advised that the pcm needed to be replaced. The vin was not available.the failure mileage was 13,500.

I feel my vehicle is accelerating by it self sometimes it jerks when i am in freeways i feel vibrating engine when is stationary it's the second time when i stopped a red light and my vehicle turned it self without warning i don't know what is going on

Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash.

Push button start would not work due to faulty brake light switch. This model year is not on the recall list as most other year models for this problem but should be. Problem clearly extends past 2010 year models.

Recall no. 13v114 has still not been resolved. With no predicable frequency, my daughter's car will suddenly be difficult to shift out of park and the steering will become more difficult, the stability control light will illuminate, the cruise control will be inoperative, the anti-lock brakes will become inoperative, because the stop lamp switch connected to the brake pedal is malfunctioning. I believe this can be repaired by a replacement stop lamp switch, at least temporarily. I do not know if kia has an alternate switch available to install. It has been almost eight years since this recall started. Please put pressure on kia to resolve this problem. I want to get this problem fixed on my daughter's car but i'd rather not pay for it myself, but i want to get it repaired this year.thank you!

I was driving east on a city street at probably less than speed limit. Street becomes a downward hill when driving east , at the first intersection there is a stoplight.i know this intersection well as i drove that way to work for 9 years. I saw light at intersection was red and saw vehicles stopped for red light.i started braking in preparation to stop at appropriate distance from vehicles stopped for red light.my brakes did not engage.it seemed as though brakes froze or were stuck and would not go down regardless of the amount of pressure i applied. I screamed ?why aren?t these stopping?? repeatedly as i saw and felt my right foot attempting to apply the brakes.i hit a red pick up in front of me.my air bag deployed and seat belt functioned appropriately but i felt i was injured.i immediately reached for my phone and called 911.fire dept personnel arrived quickly as they are close by. They placed a collar around my neck and would not allow me to exit my vehicle until ems arrived to put me in ambulance and take me to er.police officer later came to er with my vehicle documents.he told me vehicle was not drivable and would be taken to police impound lot. He said he had to give me a traffic ticket for careless driving because i hit vehicle in front of me.he said it was the least violation he could cite me for.vehicle towed to collision center where it remains stored. I only had liability insurance.i filed complaint with kia about brake failure, provided pictures, copy of traffic ticket as requested, and pictures of my severely bruised foot.i was informed by kia rep today that their engineers found no evidence of brake failure in pictures and i was ticketed for careless driving.they found no reason to examine brakes.i asked for copy of engineersreport but was told they did not provide that.

Pierde fuerza y le suena mucho el motor

The vehicle intermittently does not start due to a faulty brake sensor safety switch.

Electronic power steering issue.it is impossible to track vehicle straight at speeds over 30 mph. When driving on the highway the vehicle will drift to the left or right. The only way to maintain a straight line is to constantly make corrections while driving. In europe were this vehicle is also sold kia has issued a campaign to fix the problem. I have been to the dealership several times and kia usa is not taking ownership of this defect. There are several posts on the web of owners reporting the same problem. Kia will not fess up to this defect unless it is force by a government agency. It is very unsafe to operate a vehicle that constantly drifts at highways speeds.

The steering wheel control is not working properly especially under 60 mph. I believe it has a problem that comes from the factory settings. I also have seen that many 2011 kia sportage owners have the same issue which is very dangerous because it becomes very hard to keep the car in the line.

While driving at any speed on level roadway, vehicle veers slightly to left or right and takes constant corrections to keep it going straight.this causes problems because overcorrection becomes a problem. Alignment has been checked as well as tire rotation to no avail.steering problems persist!

This car is unable to maintain a straight trajectory under perfect road conditions or any other road conditions. It tends to go to the right, and i believe this is a significant safety hazard. I am also concerned about too much "play" in the steering. The play provides a significant angle of uncertainty in the trajectory.

The electronic steering on my 2011 sportages causes a problem during travel at highway speeds.all cars will slowly drift to the side when driving on a flat straight road but normally it only requires a slight pressure on the steering wheel to correct and it is accomplished so easily and seamlessly that you do not even think about it.the problem with the steering on my 2011 sportage is in how it reacts to these subtle steering wheel corrections at expressway speeds. The problem is not apparent in city stop and go traffic as you are distracted by other driving actions while negotiating traffic. When however you drive any significant distance on an expressway the problem becomes very apparent.while driving you can gently move the steering wheel aboutinch in each direction (1/2 inch total) before a higher resistance is felt and the tire changes direction. In other words when the car begins to drift a slight pressure on the steering wheel does not immediately translate to tire movement. It feels like there is excessive sticking somewhere in the steering system that releases as you increase pressure on the steering wheel. Because the initial tire movement is a small step rather than smooth linear movement, it often is too much, and you have to correct with opposite steering wheel movement. The affect is that on a long drive you spend an inordinate amount of time making steering wheel corrections to keep the car going in a straight line.this problem has been reported by a number of 2011 sportage owners as can be found kia-forum.com. The dealership and the factory customer service representatives have been involved and after several attempts to fix it have decided that nothing is wrong with the vehicle.

The contact owned a 2011 kia sportage. While driving 5 mph and making a turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. As a result, the contact's vehicle struck a parked vehicle. The air bags deployed. The contact sustained a bruise on the knee that did not require medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to a collision center where it was declared destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

When driving over a speed bump, dip or uneven road you feel a vibration in the steering wheel like a springy feeling and you feel like something is knocking against somethingunderneath the car. I took the car to the dealing for inspection. The tech claimed he could not duplicate the problem.the tech and i took a road test together, with me in the car pointing out was i was feeling, it was then the tech could feel it understood what i was talking about. His first thought was a bolt came loose on the rack and pinion. After inspection that was not the problem and said the rack and pinion needed further inspection. A new rack and pinion was installed and removed due to it not being faulty. After the car being in the shop 9 days we still have no conclusion. The problem is still there.i have to wait up to 35 days for a kia engineer to come and inspect my car. While the car was in the shop i also had the regular service done and new front brakes put on. The tech took my car on another road test before giving it back to me. While on that road test, my airbag light came on. The techtook my car back to the shop and had to replace a clock spring. After picking up my car yesterday while driving home i was dealing with the car pulling to one side. First it pulled to the right, then for the rest of the ride home it continued to pull to the left. The brakes don't feel right either. You have to push hard and even while your pushing on the brake its like the car doesn't want to stop. I think there is air in the line, but not sure. Car goes back to the shop this monday for the brakes and the pulling to one side.

2011 kia sportage sx all-wheel drive . . . The vehicle shows an inability to track straight while driving.most notable on a straight highway.vehicle requires constant correction and when corrected veers slowly back the other way.it is not uncontrollable, but does require constant correction and could lead to driver fatigue.kia sportage forums online has several owners with same issue.has not resulted in accident.

A white crystal appearing powder is coming through the carpet.the substance started around the center counsel coming through the carpet and has now propagated to the rear feet wells of the vehicle.the dealer has replaced two body plugs and the issue still exist.the dealer has said there is nothing they can do.i have asked to have the carpet pulled up and look under the carpet but the dealer has not done so. There is a link on the web that shows a kia soul that has the same issue.how can i get the dealer to remove the two front seats to see if there is a rust or body corrosion issue.i also asked if there was a plugged drain and was told the powder would not be caused by a plug drain line.would like some resolution before the warranty expires december 2015.first noticed fall of 2012.

Due to kia not applying enough rust protection/undercoating on my sportage. I am experiencing rust all underneath my car. I have contacted kia and the service department, trying to get them to rectify the situation and both have refused, each blaming the other for the cause. In the meantime, i am driving my sportage in snow, ice, water and salt in massachusetts. I have also told them that my catalyic converter was also rusting to the point that the entire exhaust system needs replacing. I am also very scared that there is suspension damage from this happening. I am constantly hearing groans, screeching and whining noises while traveling in my suv.

I was driving home from work with a friend on the 10 freeway in san bernadino.we heard a large explosion and glass started coming in the car from the sun roof area.apparently our sunroof spontaneously exploded, haven't used the sunroof in years.looked it up online and apparently it's a thing that happens to these kias.

My wife was driving her kia sportage on i-25 just north of castle rock at about 70 mph when there was a loud gunshot noise and she noticed the sunroof had exploded. She is sure that she did not see anything strike the vehicle. The sunroof interior shade was closed so glass did not fall directly on her. She was shocked and scared. She was very upset thinking about how if the sunshield had been open she would have been injuried. I inspected the vehicle and could not see any point where road matter had struck and it appeared to have just exploded. The vehicle is in excellent condition and this was not a hot or cold day.in colorado in september the roads are at their best, without sand from the winter season. I removed the loose glass and took it to the local dealership who told me it would be about $1,200 to $1,500 to fix. I called kia customer service and opened a claim for warranty. The kia service department reported to kia warranty they were 99.9% sure it was caused by a rock. There is no evidence to support this beyond the fact it exploded. Kia denied the warranty claim based in the service departments recommendations. The kia service department then called me and advised me that they would need to replace the railing system too and so now it would be $5,500 to fix. I was aware of national investigations into the exploding sunroofs in kias like mine. I picked up my vehicle without having it fixed and now find myself having to rent a vehicle as i attempt to find the best way to have this fixed. I am very disappointed and my wife is afraid that it will happen again. I feel this is very dangerous and look to have safety officials look into these situations. After educating myself more about this i have found that the sunroof is now thinner and not made with the same standards as in the past.

The contact previously owned a 2011 kia sportage. The contact stated that the side rear passenger door protruded outward due to the angle and it caused the door to hit him in the face.the contact sustained a swollen nose and lost a large amount of blood. The dealer allowed the contact to trade in the vehicle for a new one.the manufacturer stated that the vehicle had no liability for the incident and offered no assistance.the approximate failure mileage was 1300.updated 05/16/11updated 2/8/12

Engine is broke

Car pulls to right constantly. A rattling noise in front of car underneath. Was taken to kia and they stated that nothing was wrong. Now rattle noise is worse.

Bearing prematurely wore out and i have to get a short block motor for $5405.00 at the kia dealership coughlin in newark ohio so i had to get a new car. No warning lights ever came on and it never smoked or overheated.it shut off in idle and did it several times. We towed it to dealership. They never mentioned a recall. I've been only owner. Always changed oil, it never got hot or made sounds indicating a motor was about to blow and no trouble light indicators came on.

While on vacation in la we had a problem with our 2011 kia sportage. While driving the car lose power and would not accelerate. We had to restart the car repeatedly until we reached our destination. We took the car to a local autozone and they got a code for the throttle position sensor. We found a dealership and took the car in.they told us there was a past code , but that was not the code they got. After sitting all day waiting for kia corporation to tell them what to do to fix it, we finally got the car back and told it was a pin tension that was loose and they fix it. No charge since it was still under warranty. We had no problems until 2 months later and they car is doing the same thing. Called the dealership where we bought the car and it took a week to get an appt. Now we are being told that they got a code for the throttle pos sensor and that it is not under warranty any longer ( mileage is 61000). They have had the car for 2 days. No loaner car was offered to us and it is apparent that this is a problem. Somebody will surely get hurt.

Vehicle has plastic burning smell from time to time and has not been able to be traced as of yet. The smell frequently appears after car has been running for a few minutes and comes and goes.we looked to make sure there were no open recalls before reporting this issue.

We were parked with the car running and shifted the car into park only to have the shifter button get stuck inside the shifter preventing us from turning the car off. We have had to pry the button out to turn the car off and it gets stuck now when pushed in causing it to stay in while driving posing a hazard if the shifter is bumped or moved while in motion. It is steadily getting worse and sometimes we are unable to get the button to push in enough to shift the car.

I feel my vehicle is accelerating by it self sometimes it jerks when i am in freeways i feel vibrating engine when is stationary it's the second time when i stopped a red light and my vehicle turned it self without warning i don't know what is going on

Vehicle sunroof exploded while driving down freeway. It sounded like a shot-gun blast hit the sunroof and threw glass everywhere. No reason as to why it happened but it just did. I have seen similar complaints online that describe the same thing happening to their kia but it was a kia sorento, i am wondering if it is a factory defect problem with kia's in general.

The car shut off at a red light on a main highway and at at stop sign and there was no advanced waring

Engine heatings and cooling

Airbag clock spring does not work properly. It has been recalled on other kia's but not mine. I was told to just turn the steering wheel to get the cruise to work, but don't know if that will make the airbag work in case of an accident if it's not fixed!!

Pierde fuerza y le suena mucho el motor

Oil pan leak caused by faulty gasket and failed indicator

I'm trying to check if my vehicle was recalled cause it's been driving really weird and then i heard that 2011 kia sportage were being recalled and trying to find out if that's what's causing the problems

The car hesitates upon acceleration from zero turning into traffic. It is very scary and happens often.. The dealer (evergreen kia) was notified on nov. 29, 2012.

The contact owns a 2011 kia sportage. While the contact's wife was driving 45 mph on the expressway, the sun roof fractured. The failure caused glass to enter the vehicle near the passenger and minor in the back seat. There were no injuries. The driver managed to exit the expressway. The contact inspected the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (rodeo kia, 10685 papago fwy, avondale, az 85323) where it was diagnosed that the failure was not kia's fault; therefore, it would be an out of pocket expense after the vehicle was kept for six days. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and recommended the contact schedule an appointment with the dealer. No further assistance was offered. The contact called the manufacturer again and was informed that he should have received paperwork explaining why the repair was denied, and that someone was supposed to call him back. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
