On april 12, 2013 i got into my 2000 kia sportage to go to work. As soon as i got into the car i hit the windshield wipers to get the dew off of the windshield and instead of just going once they went off extremely fast with out stopping for about 45 seconds. Once i got them turned off i went up the road and turned to head to work via the back roads. I drove about 1 miles when out of the blue my windshield wipers started going off again then a second later i heard a loud bang and 2 of my airbags had deployed and i felt a throbbing pain in my right shin. The passenger airbag and the lower airbag on the driver side deployed. My car was the only car involved and has a clear carfax. The road i was driving on was smooth and i did not hit anything. The car had to be towed back to my house where it sits.

I am not sure if you can help me but i feel that i need to vent in reference to kia.i purchased a 2000 kia sportage in november of 1999.at that time the warranty was 3 years or 36000 miles which ever came first.i seriously thought that i purchase the extended warranty but they are saying i didn't.my care only has 30050 miles. The issue is that since i purchased this car i have had in their service shop at least once a year for several problems.now it is back in for the third time for two problems that they claim had been fixed two times prior.i have a steering wheel airbag that keeps disappearing which causes a problem for me when i need to honk the horn and the check engine light keeps coming on.now the 3 years have pasted, not the 36000 miles but they will not fix these problems without me paying for it upfront because the warranty has expired.i just feel that they should honor the 36000 not the 3 year it is not like this is a new problem.i would have understood if i never brought the car in before for these problems but this is supposedly a new car and it has already been in twice for the same problems. Is there anything that protects the consumer from this kind of treatment or is there anything i can do other than trading it in for a better car?please your response would be greatly appreciated. My kia began having electrical problems about 3 years ago. Long story made short: the dealer wanted me to pay $3000 plus for it had all its electrical system melted down. I found a recall and after a battle with the dealer and manufacturer i got it fixed when i found out there was a recall. Next nightmare: july 2008no one died luckily. I lend my car to a friend and he is driving his 2 yearold daughter and the car falls to the ground. Axle broke down, wheels spun inwards and kia is not working again. Luckily these friends were going at 20 miles an hour otherwise they would not have told the story. Got it fixed cost me $$ apparently it was a defective kia part center link replaced. Have the part still in my car as a nice memory.final nightmare: april 2009 i was the main character: again the axle feels weird and clicks when i turn. Problem: tie rod is broken. Different than the previous time but related to the previous problem. Luckily was not on the freeway at high speed otherwise would not be telling this story.in short: this is a safety hazard! kia needs to recall this defect urgently. My friend and kid and i could have got killed in an accident literally. Fortunately we both were driving at very low speeds and could manage this problem with no one getting injured? kia needs to make these cars safer and prevent future accidents please!! be responsible not only with your new cars, take pride on your brand and fix the old junk you created!!
All power doors, windows, and brake lights do not work in my 2000 kia sportage.after inspecting all fuses and light bulbs, i believe bad wiring or bad connectors to be the culprit.

The incident has been reported to the insurance company. Her husband thought it was ofelectrical nature. The contact contacted ,a kia dealer and they were not very helpful.they referred her to the insurance company. She has not spoken to the manufacturer.

Since oct. 2002 until april 2003, the power locks would operate erratically, making the lock and unlocking sound, and a clicking sound coming from under the dash board, vehicle has been to the dealer four times for this problem, first they thoughtit was the timer control unit, audio circuit, they did find four chaffered wires in the drivers side door, and some corrosion from the main door pin. Two days later from picking up the vehicle, problem still exists. Alarm is working funny when the vehicle locks are freaking out. Service manager where i take my vehicle for service said to me upon picking up my vehicle," i hope you don't take this the wrong way, or personally, but i hope i don't see you again, you know things are either black, white, or gray and this situation is very gray." imagine that, that's what they are there for, to fix your vehicle. I have given this place 8 years of service between this vehicle and my previous car.wait until i have to call and say it is happening again. If anyone has had this problem and has found the answer, please help between march 26,2003 and april 4,2003 vehicle has been to dealer three times and once last oct,2002 i guess dealer can't find the problem.

Vehicle has been to the dealer for several problems, some of which was covered under the warranty. But i think that a car that i got in 2000 should not give me such major problems. Now, i was driving it and the lights started to flash, horn started to blow, windshield wipers came on by themselves in a frenzy and then the whole car shut off. When i lifted up the hood, something smelled to be burning, i believe the wiring is bad and it shorted out the whole car. The mechanic said no offense but kia is not a very good build car at all. It has too many problems. *kk

The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage. While driving 35 mph, there was a loud noise under the hood. The contact parked the vehicle and noticed water leaking from the radiator. The fan blade detached and went through the radiator. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,477.
The car had not been driven in 2 days.my daughter started the car, drove it about 1/4 - 1/2 mile when she noticed smoke coming from the console on the passenger side.she parked the vehicle, got out and ran to the passenger side to see if she could tell where the smoke was coming from and could see fire through the crack in the console where the cover over the console was joined together.within seconds, the entire inside of the vehicle was engulfed in flames, which leads me to believe that there may have been a gasoline leak.she was in a residential neighborhood with very little traffic.had she been on the highway or in traffic, this would have been a very different scenario.she and others would have been hurt or worse.her pocketbook had fallen on the floor and she reached over to pick it up and that is when she saw the smoke.she had time to get out before the car imploded.the entire interior of the car was gutted and the paint was burned off the drivers side and roof of the car.all that is left of the inside is soot, metal and charcoal from front to rear.we bought the car from a dealer on december 21, 2012.it ran great, was in good shape and we had no problems or warning signs prior to this incident.i am going to notify kia, but am not very hopeful of any resolution without some intervention from nhtsa.

I own a 2000 kia sportage ex that has repeatedly stalled when coming to a stop or when slowing to make a turn.this has resulted in my being stopped in the middle of busy intersections/part of the way across a road, desperately trying to restart my car before being hit.it has also lost power while on the interstate, dropping from 65mph with no warning.if i do not get off the highway immediately i risk losing total power.i have taken the car to the kia dealership in durham,nc multiple times.they can not identify the problem on their computers.independent mechanics have been unable to identify the problem.i have had all recommended maintenance done on this car.

My radiator continually leaks, when i brought to nearest dealer they said it was out of warrantee even though it has 5yr/60k on power train and because i was not a customer on good faith they would not replace it (pride dealership, no. Attleboro, ma. -service mgr. Richard): when i called kia - they said they would not cover the radiator even with 40k miles limited warrantee on radiator-no matter what they would consider replacing because i use an independant service person, my husband, he explained in detail. The problem but they told him they was not one else to talk to and it was to bad, they would not do anything at all no matter what.i can not go on long distance because it leaks when i use the heat/defrost/ac, or when the temp. Goes up at all.i have used 2 antifreeze containers. The lower leaks and it is getting harder to get the car out of gear and the car is pulling and buking before getting into gear.i hope you can help with this situation. Thank you.dt

Manufacturer has been contacted and said there is nothing they can do "nothing to fix - if dealer can not duplicate".have brought in to dealer 2 times.what happens when this causes an accident/injury/ or worse? how can they duplicate it then? please note have had other failures-cooling fan fell off and ruptured radiator, 4 wheel drive has failed several times.
Kia has had a large number of fan failures that cause loss of engine in heavy traffic.the fan totally came apart and did a lot of dammage to the engine on the turnpike in bumper to bumper traffic at the speed limit and there was no place to pull off for safety. Kia is aware of this problem and has been keeping it quiet to the public. The small dealership near me has had 5 cases alone so far this year.

My 2002 kia started leaking transmission fluid, i went to kias repair shop four different times in three different states and the problem still exists. After the fourth time of being in the shop the one dealership told me that i have a bent or dented drive shaft, even though i have only had the vehicle for six months. And i have never hit anything, taken the vehicle off road or ran over anything to dent or bend this drive shaft. The dealership notified me this was an impact problem and that it is not covered under warranty and that i would have to replace the drive shaft at a cost of approximately. $800. I just bought the car six months. Ago and i don't feel i should be liable for damages that were not caused by myself. My doors also lock by themselves repeatedly and all four dealers said they fixed the problem but they still lock by themselves. The engine runs like the car is about seven or eight years old.

My brother is handicapped and he called the dealer and he ask for the vin number and said there was no recall. We know there is not one at this moment but for him to look at this car because of it causing a life threatening problem. I have case number from kia just need to get the dealer to look at the car the fumes are making him sick and now the chance of the care blowing up. Please help asap. 2000 kia sportage 4 wheel drive- bought car, contacted kia regarding recalls told there was one on fuel tank. Took car to kia, was told too many miles on car- but leaky fuel tank still exists. Today went to get fill up car, first time, the fire department had to come to service station because car was pouring out fuel from tank. Fireman told me to contact kia, told him already did but kia refused to do anything about this. Car needed towed, shut down service station for about an hour or more untilfuel could be cleaned up. This is kia's fault, knew of defect, refused to do anything about it, look at internet how many complaints there are for these cars. Tank made from poor material with kia's knowledge so they should have a recall which there is one, but they don't want to honor it.
On the weekend of october 22-23, 2005, a gaseous odor was observed around my 2000 kia sportage (purchased december 4, 1999; vin:[xxx]).puddles of gas were later spotted under my vehicle, so the following morning (october 24, 2005), i brought it to the local kia dealer for inspection.it was determined that the gas tank had "rotted/rusted" out (additionally, the bolts for the gas tank and the hose connecting the gas tank and filler tube were rusted and disintegrated, respectively, beyond repair and must be replaced), creating a hole through which gas was escaping.the vehicle was used only minimally in wi prior to august 2000, and its location since then has been chapel hill/durham, nc (all repair work and oil changes have been done by millennium kia in durham, nc, which also suggests where the vehicle has been driven since august 2000).thus, the vehicle has not been exposed to salt or other elements which may lead to this type of damage.it currently has fewer than 55,000 miles on it, which further leads me to believe that this is not the direct consequence of over- or misuse.my father [xxx] and owner of the vehicle, contacted the kia corporation and spoke with tom morales (800-333-4542, ext: 45262) regarding this issue, and a case has been opened with regard to it (case #[xxx]).we believe this damage is not only extremely hazardous, but also premature and the result of a faulty product.kia claims they can do nothing to resolve this issue, but because of its serious potential to cause injury, we believe the case merits further investigation. On 11/14/07 i checked my sportage into the dealer to have the tires replaced.i was informed that the car was unsafe to drive, because of a leak in the fuel tank.i had not noticed the leak, but the dealer said there was a very strong probability of a fire because of all the gas.i replaced the gas tank.in january of 2008 i received notice that kia would cover the repairs nhtsa # 10024232.i sent in my receipts in february.on sept 10th kia have 9 months of waiting decided they did not need to cover the cost of the repairs because my paperwork did not note where exactly the tank was leaking from.however, they brought me out to the car before they repaired it and the rear shield of the tank was completely rusted and the tank was leaking in the rear.the tank was not secure on the vehicle.this should certainly be a full scale recall!

Some of the major problems include the following;fuel tank leak, heavy rust, frame rusted out. Took it to a kia dealership & was told i needed to have the fuel pump, tank&sensor replaced. Per the advisor at the kia dealership, my car did pass inspection in regards to the"extended warranty"on the fuel tank.i was charged approx.$800 for the repairs due to it being only 1 yr past the time for kia to cover therepair.i am under the mileage.the kia dealership gave me a list of additional repairs needed. One of them being"frame rusted out in rear requires immediate attention"they did no explain any of this to me! my car started to jerk&shake while slowly stepping on the brakes as i prepared to stop at a red light,it was difficult to bring the car to a complete stop:'( it made a loud noise as if something had fallen ofmy car. Per the mechanic that i had to get my car towed to, i need to find a good welder to repair all of this rust asap. He stated that this is very unsafe and this causes me to have no control of my car. The kia dealership sold me $800 worth of work while knowing/not telling me that my car was unsafe to drive:(who does that?! i have had so many problems with this car:( i didn't list all of them. From little things to major. I feel so unsafe driving it. I only wish that people truly cared & tried to picture how they would feel if this had happened to them or their family/friends. I am currently laid off and searching for work . I have been laid off 2x within the past 2 yrs, first time was right after i purchased my condo. I'm trying to tell myself to just breathe and keep the faith. Consumer's vehicle has a rusted gas tank and a bad fuel pump.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the manager stated that toyota no longer does repair on kia vehicle.the oil pan rusted causing an oil leak.oil leaked from the speed sensor and oil seal.the 4 wheel drive was inoperative due to an outdated hub kit.the vehicle's check engine light illuminated.the technician found that the #3 cylinder was misfiring.phone interview update (oct 31, 2005): the repair shop personnel (dave @ thetford's auto center @ 607-433-0319) indicated that the tank was rusted and was leaking from the seam. In addition, the fuel supply or return line was rotted at the fuel tank connection; fuel was leaking whe the fuel pump was turned on.
My complaint is about the kia leaking fuel. I received a letter from kia about the fuel tank rusting out in states where salt is used on the roads. The rust is more on the top of the fuel tank not the bottom. From people i've spoken with, that's where it leaks from and corrodes the top not the bottom. Kia will only replace if the corrosion is on the bottom of the gas tank.the whole fuel pump and tank need to be replaced. The maintenance people i've spoken to have said i'm luck the car hasn't blown up. There needs to be a recall to replace the gas tank.

Currently there is a canadian recall for the 2000-2001 kia sportage for a fuel leak in the fuel pump outlet spigot, and this is to be repaired by a dealer. My 2000 sportage is having the same exact problem. I called the company and since there is not a recall in the us they will not do anything about it because they said my warrantly is up. There are currently 8749 vehicles in canada that have been included in this recall, so how many vehicles have had this problem in the us or how many have actually caused harm because this was not looked at in the us. I feel that a recall needs to be instituted in the united states because this is a potential safety hazard and kia should be held liable.all that these vehicles need is a small fix and it's a small price to pay for happy consumers.

While driving my 2000 kia sportage i started smelling gas i pulled over and looked under the vehicle and found gas leaking i had a mechanic look at it and he informed me gas was coming out of the top of my gas tank by where the fuel pump and gas gauge wiring goes in. I then went on the internet to see if there was any reported problems with this and found there was a recall from kia for the same reason. I the contacted a kia dealer in my area to get it fixed and he told me that the recall doesn't pertain to my vehicle and he but me in touch with kia consumer affairs and the next day (today) they told me that my sportage is not covered by the recall and i'm going to have to pay out of pocket for the repair. Is there anything you people can do or i'm i or someone else going to have to die in this vehicle to make them honor their screw up. Thank you in advance for your help. If need be i'll go to the press with this problem.

This will hopefully turn into a recall, but only after someone gets killed.

Gas leak from the top of my gas tank where the sending unit is attached. Both the tank and sending unit (with fuel pump) needed replaced. 2000 kia sportage.
Vehicle gas tank was leaking fuel, probably for quite some time before it became visually apparent.i could see gasoline dripping on the pavement in my parking spot at work.the kia dealer told me the gas tank had rusted through on the bottom, and would have to be replaced.the bottom of the gas tank holder has holes in it for ventilation. These holes allow road debris to lodge between the holder and the tank, eventually causing the corrosion.dealer also told me the fuel pump and sensor would have to be replaced, before they even dropped the tank.dealer told me the although there had been some complaints about this issue, there was no recall and i would be responsible for all charges.
- the contact has a 2000 kia sportage andcomplaind abouttjhe fuel pump and gas tank which were replaced on 1/10/07 becausethe gas tank was rusted and the fuel pump was leaking gas.the contact purchased the parts from the dealer and they were installed by the contact's husband.the failure milageswas143500 and the current mileage is 144000.
Replaced leaking fuel tank, fuel pump and sensor on 2000 kia sportage with 55,106 miles on the vehicle.we are second owners.
Dt: a 2000 kia sportage station wagon.the bottom of the vehicle rusted.the fuel tank had a hole in it. While the consumer was driving on the highway the fuel had slowly leaked out.the consumer was unaware of this until she drove vehicle home and noticed that there was fuel under it.consumer tookvehicle to a local fuel station; they toldconsume rbecause there was no one to work on it to bring it back the next day.she had the vehicle towed to them the next day.they replaced the fuel pump, tank, lines, and everything on the bottom of the vehicle.the fuel had leaked all over the bottom of the vehicle and made it hard to fix the vehicle.the mechanic told her that they had the same problem with other kiaes concerning this.the consumer is very concerned with the safety of this.the mechanic said he had no trouble getting the tank, he figured that it might be a common problem with them.previously they replaced the 4 wheel drive unit.
- the contact purchased a 2000 kia sportage.the contact was the original owner of the vehicle. On 1/1/2007, after driving 1.5 miles the contact's smelled gas.the vehicle was parked ,and when the contact checked the vehicle, there was fuel leaking.the contact found a significant fuel leak ,and drove the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the leak.the contact stated that gas was leaking on the exhaust system.the dealer indicated that the screws that held the fuel pump in the gas task rusted , and was advised that the pump which fittedinto the fuel tank had to be replaced.the contact called kia, and was told there was nothing they could do since the car was no longer under warranty.the vehicle was stalling ,and was told by the dealer that a wire was lo0se and it was repaired.prior to that the vehicle was overheated due to an oxygen sensor failure.

Fuel pump mounting plate and gas tank leaking fuel.
Fuel tank in 2000 kia sportage has multiple leaks due to heavy corrosion in back lower half of tank.protective outer shell is also corroded beyond repair.
The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage. The contact stated that the fuel tank was corroded causing a fuel leak . The contact mentioned that fuel fumes were emitted around the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who verified that the fuel tank was in fact corroded and caused the fuel leak. As a result, the fuel tank needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 101,835.
The fuel tank is leaking. I need to have kia to replace this tank. It is very dangerous for me to keep driving. I have children and i am concern for their safety as well as my own.
Fuel tank/pan rusted out. Strong gas odor. Recall found online. Neither dealer nor kia would acknowledge. Receiving numerous misfire messages and have changed plugs, coils, and wires. Misfire code states fuel/air ratio is wrong. There is no hiss when opening gas cap and no pressure registering from tank. Safety and fire issue. Was warned not to drive until fixed due to gas leakage. Very upset at kia for telling me that recall did not apply to my 2000 sportage, however she stated it was for 1996-2002 sportages. Was informed i could pay $92/hour for it to be inspected but i would be responsible for all charges. Very disturbing, especially since it is vehicle used to transport my family and now i no longer feel safe.
I took my vehicle to a shop to get the oil changed and they noticed that the driver side rear of the frame is severely rusted out and needs replacement. Also the fuel tank is leaking at one of the seams in the corner of the tank. I have been told by people in the auto industry that this is a common problem with the kia sportage. I have also seen numerous reports on the internet as well. It's only a 12 year old vehicle. I have had plenty of other vehicles much older without all of this kind of rust issue. This is ridiculous. Obviously there is some kind of defect with the materials being used. I surely hope the nhtsa will make kia motors recall these vehicles. Because it is a major safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage. While parked, the contact noticed an overpowering fuel smell. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a fuel leak coming from under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The technician stated that the fuel tank would have to be replaced due to corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available.the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
(1) noticed that the fuel tank shield is severely rotted out and is barely connected.(2) smell fuel vapors periodically while in the vehicle.(3) fuel tank appears to be rusting, afraid to mess with tank in fear of disturbing the rust and rupturing a hole in tank.(4) brake lines were so severely rusted in one area that it blew a hole in the line and prevented the vehicle from stopping and required the prompt action for repair.other brake lines look like they may fail in near future.(5) steel portion of power steering line rusted out and blew fluid everywhere preventing the ability to turn the wheel while driving.(6) the frame has heavy rust scale and appears to be rotting in several place.(7) paint is starting to bubble which is indicating body is rusting under paint job.this is a 12 year old vehicle with very bad rotting of metal from salt corrosion.have never seen this much rust on 20+ old vehicles that are in the same northern regions of the us.
Noticed a strong gas smell, looked under car and noticed gas dripping from under car. Upon further looking i noticed the gas tank protective plate is rotting out which makes me believe the gas tank is too.
Gas tank is leaking gasoline.
The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, he found that the fuel tank and fuel guard was corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 179,000.
The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage. The contact stated that he was notified by a concerned citizen that his vehicle was leaking fuel. The contact examined the vehicle and noticed that there was a puddle of fuel underneath. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis, but was informed that the failure was not a defect and that the vehicle was just old. The vehicle was not able to be parked on rental property due to the hazard and potential for a fire. The fuel fumes also made the driver feel dizzy, contributing to unsafe driving. The failure and current mileages were 120,000. The vin was unavailable.
Fuel tank leaking gas i believe the fuel tank is no good anymore i purchase a vehicle fill up the tank and start to leak gas i thought it was a gasket so gasket was placed and it's still leaking
The inside dome light malfunctions.
My 2000 kia sportage has been leaking gas. We haven't had it repaired, as we cant afford it. Someone suggested looking for recalls, that's when i found this site. The "heat shield" (?) has always rattled badly. In addition to the rattling and bad gas leak, the motor blower fan is not working, my 4wheel drive isn't working. Underneath it is a rust bucket!the back doors wont lock/unlock. Something really needs to be done!!!please, someone stand up for the little guy and make kia fix these problems!!!
While driving doorslock and unlock by themselves. This happens intermittently. Dealer can't find cause of problem because can't duplicate it.
Power locks go on and off by themselves. Power windows don't work , then suddenly works. Computer failure with brakes.
Have had vehicle in for brake service 9x in 2 yrs. Only 20 k miles on car.(2000 kia sportage). 13 times total for service . Replaced rotors 3x and now have problems again. The dealership york chrysler kia has not been able to solve this problem. The front wheel bearings were loose 3x. They told us they never seen this happen before. But it happened 3x to us. The 4 wheeel drive went out. They said it happens since there is no dirt shield on the linkage. They installed a retrofit kit to protect against this but only do it if people have problems. I think they are trying to get out of having a recall on this item. With our kia they replaced the entire brake assembley after onlyu 3206 mi. We had the car in 3x after that for brake squeel which was excessive. They could not fix it. They replaced the rotors again at 10456 miles. At 12552 miles the 4 wheel drive went out. At 15882 mi they checked again for brake pulsation and balanced front tire and wheel assem. Said brake and rotor runout well within specs. At 17488 had rotors replaced again. Not even 2k miles after they said everything was well within specs. At 20473 miles brake rotor were pulsing again. They would not cover under warranty. After talking with kia (case #k129955) they agreed to machine the rotors again using the on car lathe to get a better finish. At 20783 complained about brake pulsing again. And am going to take the vehicle in again to find out what is going on. I think there is an underling problem with this vehicle that they cannot figure out. At 7571 mi, 13777mi, and again at 20783 mi, the wheel bearings were loose. This is not normal wear just like the rotors.
Electrical lights, equipment, power train all are malfunctioned.
Transmission went outand it shouldn't of car is only 3years old.
On four occasions while traveling at highway speed of 60 mph or more, transmission jumped out of gear into neutral. Vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on four occasions, and nothing could be found.
Dt: first got car seemed to drive good, but in the winter the 4-wheel drive didn't work. Kia fixedit, and this happened again, kia fixed it again. This seemed to happen when in high speeds and then slowing, the wheels would shake. At the first attempt to fix it,kia dealer said they changed the kit that puts it into 4-wheel drive.on the second attempt to fix it, they didn't know what they did, but it had to do with 4-wheel drive.at third attempt kia said the hoses were clogged.took hoses off and cleaned them and put them back on. Also, said there was a new kit into the cars, but he did not put it intoconsumer'scar.he assuredconsumer that the car would be fine. About three months later the 4-wheel drive and transmission iwere not working right.the last time this happened the front wheeles locked up and slid.
There was a noise coming fromtransmission.vehicle had trouble slipping into the next gear. Contacted dealer.

The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage.since purchasing the vehicle, the contact has paid for numerous repairs.before driving the vehicle off the lot, she noticed a large puddle of oil underneath the vehicle.the dealer repaired the failure.the following week, while driving 55 mph, the vehicle began to shake severely.the dealer rotated the tires, but the shaking persisted.thirdly, a tire blew out and had to be changed.in addition, the vehicle began leaking transmission fluid and a new transmission line was installed.lastly, the windshield wiper motor stopped working and the entire driver's side glass caved in on the contact, but did not break.there were no injuries.currently, the glass will not roll up or down.the failure mileage was 86,000. Updated 1/5/09 the gas tank was falling apart. A shield was needed to rectify the problem. The drivers window was inoperative. The radiator was leaking. The vehicle was out of alignment. The vehicle would not start. The consumer discovered the cable had melted. Updated 01/09/09
Car has lost power in 1st and 2nd gears, engine light comes on, car smokes, replaced two 02 sensors, tapping noise under hood when start engine, car would not start, once started had gas smell, and blew smoke out exhaust
While driving my sportage, i accidentally hit the gear control on the floor. To my surprise, it moved forward from the drive position to the neutral position. I found an isolated street and tested it again and it happened again. The gear handle does not properly lock into each position as it should. The safety button on the gear lever does not provide any sort of protection. I did not want to damage my car by testing to see if i could shift from drive into reverse using this newly-found problem. I'll leave that one to the automotive professionals. Please investigate this problem and determine if this is an isolated case or a vehicle design flaw. Thanks for your help! *nlm
When starting vehicle, it runs rough and almost stalls. When driving vehicle, it hesitates and bucks, has total loss of power in 1st and 2nd gear. This problem does not happen all the time, but does happen frequently. Has been to the dealership and they cannot locate problem. Car has lost power several times while entering traffic causing a potential accident.
Incidents:2000 kia sportageautomatic transmission slippage - i (and at least two other kia sportage owners i have talked with) have experienced slippage in the automatic transmission.we were all told that no problem could be found but we have all continued to experience the problem from time to time.

While driving, the consumer heard a loud clunking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealerships mechanic informed the consumer that the problem was pertaining to the rear axle, but the mechanic was unable to resolve the problem.

While driving, the driveshaftmade a loud noise and broke.when this occurred, the consumer pulled over and called a towing company.the dealership replaced the driveshaft, but it failed again.the drive shaft was replaced three times within three years.the vehicle would make rattling sounds that would get louder and the vehicle became too loud to drive. The service dealer found the center bolt stripped, the sop propeller was replaced for noise, the brake light was on due to 25% left on the pads and the transmission seal was replaced due to leaking. *sc
Tires became bald three months after i bought the car, brake pads and rotor needed replacing. The gas lever has been and is broke again. Hubs were replaced the first time, seals were replaced second time. The heat shield needs to be replaced right now. Passenger side window moves very slow. Timing belt replaced early.brake light comes on whenever i applied the brakes. I went to an auto dealer and had them check out the brakes. They told me that the master brake cylinder was leaking badly.
The 4-wheel drive on my kia sportage 2000 has stopped working.my mechanic identified the problem with the knuckle/hub assy w/o abs (part # qk081-33-020-dq).it's a system that works by air pressure to engage the 4x4.the defect with this part is that air leaks out of it and causes the 4x4 to stop working.kia has made a new version of this part (part # qk082-33-020-eq) that corrects the issue by double sealing the air pressure leak.they are not however willing to make the repairs free of charge, which i think they should.the reason why this is a safety issue is because this car has rear wheel drive and we live in utah where it snows every winter.rear wheel drive vehicles in snow-covered roads are useless and cannot be controlled.we purchased this vehicle for the 4x4 factor that made a huge difference in snowy weather.we are very disappointed with the fact that the company is not taking responsibility to correct the issue free of charge, especially since this is a manufacturers defect and a major safety issue in this kind of weather.i would also like to note that this defect was also in the 98, 99, 00 and 01 models of this car.unfortunately for me i didn't find out about this until after the part broke.currently we are not driving this vehicle when the roads are covered with snow.we cannot afford to buy the $800.00 part + labor fees.i was told by kia customer service that recalls are only made when your company determines that the vehicle is unsafe because of the defect.i don't know if my single report will make a difference but i would just like to make you aware of the situation with this vehicle.

Kia sportage was making a metal on metal banging sound intermittently while normal opertion in 2 wheeel drive.kia dealer found one front wheel hub and vacumm line were locked to engage 4 wheel drive.hubs and line were replaced however there is a national stock outage on update kit for a recall by kia.already have waited 3 weeks for parts.can not get information from kia on when parts will be available.many other kia owners also on waiting list for parts with the same problem at brenner dealership in harrisburg, pa.can not use 4 wheel drive until parts are installed.

While driving at 65 mph there was a noise from the left front tire, then the brakes locked up.front tire almost came completely off the vehicle. Dealership indicated that this was caused by a manufacturing defect in the front wheel drive.

I own a 2000 kia sportage ex [4x4] and add i done more research on this i never would've purchased it. Like all sportages apparently the 4wd doesn't work. I live in cleveland ohio and we normally get 6months of snow. There is no wayi can drive a vehicle with only rear wheel drive. It's incredibly dangerous and a safety hazard because the back wheels always spin out during bad weather conditions. Kia has been aware of this problem for years and hasn't recalled this unsafe vehicle for some strange reason. I won't complain about some of other minor defects of this suv, but something has to be done about the faulty 4wd!!!! recently i got stuck in 2inches mud in my backyard and it took 4 hours of rocking, lifting the suv with a jack and 2x4's, and clever idea's to get unstuck. Keep in mind i recently purchased 4 brand new tires and had the suv in 4wd the entire time. This is a major fault of kia that shouldn't be ignored!!!
Consumer had vehicle parked in gear withparking brake not on,and vehicle rolled back.vehicle was not running. Has not contacted dealer.
2000 kia sportage. Consumer states several problems with vehicle *tgwthe consumer stated he had problems with the 4-wheel drive not operating properly.when the 4-wheel drive would engage, it would cause tremendous friction which caused the vehicle to slow down drastically. Also, when it was engaged in a turning mode, the front gear would slip.the gas tank shield was three quarters of the way rotted due to rust and there seemed to be minor gas seepage under what was left of the tank shield.the chassis frame rails, both rear sides were approximately 85% rotted out by rust. The consumer was informed by several repair shops that the rails could not be repaired due to the fact that there was very little good metal to repair and strengthen the vehicle frame.
Auto surges and accelerates while traveling highway speeds.have had several close calls / near accidents. Dealer "cannot duplicate" and therefore will not do anything.

When engaging from two-wheel drive to four wheels drive vehicle remains in two wheels drive.dealer was notified, and informed the consumer that this vehicle was not covered under a recall.
Consumer complained about atransfer case problem. Also, rear driveline was bent, and hubs were contaminated.
Dash lights indicated vehicle was in 4wd, vehicle slid backwards.
Replaced 4 wheel drive with update and replaced front brake pads.*nlm
The 4wd of my vehicle has stopped working on several occasions.however, it was not noticed until after i had been in a circumstance whereas the 4wd was needed such as snow and ice.one once occasion i narrowly avoided an accident and became stuck.i have had the vehicle submitted for repairs at the dealership and subsequently informed the repairs were required due to a malfunctioned vacuum line.the repairs were required three times before i finally returned the vehicle and demanded a more thorough investigation of the problem.i was then informed parts would need to be ordered for correction of the deficiency.i have still not received the vehicle back from repairs.
Seat belt catch device releases the clip and seat belt from holder approximately 75% of the time i put on my seat belt.i have not replaced as the item was not deemed necessary by dealer that wanted $375.00 for replacement.
Consumer was involved in a collision at 25-30 mph and safety restraint belts did notfunction properly, and driver sustaine dinjuries.
The seatbelt on my 2000 kia sportage on the driverside always opens.i feel this is very dangerous if i was ever involved in an accident.i do not trust the saftey belt will hold me if i ever had an accident.i weigh only 125 lbs.*ea04007*
Dt*: the contact stated while driving on a wet road, the contact lost control and struck a parked vehicle at 35mph and the front seat belt buckle assembly unlocked.although the seat belt was properly locked, the buckle assembly released allowing the contact to sustain minor injuries.the vehicle was totaled due to the extensive damage.there is a nhtsa recall, # 04v305000, regarding the front seat belt buckle assembly.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.the police were contacted and a report was taken.
The consumer noticed that rear seat beltwas hanging and not retracted into the holster.consumer pulled on the belt several times but belt failed to retract.
Dt:the contact stated the rear middle seat belt will not latch. The manufacturer informed him the rear seat belts were not included in the recall he received.
Left rear seat retainer hook pulled out of inside wall and seat fell backwards with person sitting in seat.the vehicle was not moving

While driving 50 mph had extended stopping, contacted the dealer the dealer replace the rotors, consumer states that less than 10,000 miles the rotors had to be replacedagain. Mr
Tires became bald three months after i bought the car, brake pads and rotor needed replacing. The gas lever has been and is broke again. The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage. Hi, i'm really not sure what category my situation falls into but i'm really upset. My wife and i smelled gas coming from the rear of our kia. I thought it was from a faulty gas cap which i replaced. The problem persisted and when i brought the car in for it's next oil change i had it checked out. The mechanic told me that the gas tank and the shield were corroding. He explained to me that kia has had this on going problem for sometime and that the tank with it's parts were defective. That there was a recall and to contact kia. First i went online to research to see if there was a recall and there is. I then contacted kia headquarters and was told to take it to a kia dealership to have it checked out.that there was a recall. I did just that.. I brought it to loman ford kia in woodbridge nj. Here's where it gets confusing. I left my kia there and later on that day they called me. They told me that the tank and shield needed to be replaced, but that it wasn't covered. Being very confused i said that i spoke to kia and i was told of the recall problem. He told me that i was not covered by the recall because my warranty expired which was 100,000 miles or ten years. I have 173,000 miles. He said that the recall is only acknowledged if the car is in warranty. I told him thats a bunch of crap. I said it's been recalled by the dealer and the dealer is responsible for the replacement free of charge regardless of warranty thats the purpose of a recall. He again said it's not covered. Hope you can help me. Very truly your's.. I took my 2000 kia sportage in to my mechanic to have the brakes redone. As he was out testing to make sure the brakes worked he noticed that the rear end was moving around quite a bit. He takes it back to the shop to look up underneath and noticed that the chassis was rusted away so bad that there was s fist sized hole in it. He told me this needed to be fixed asap! this is a serious concern not only for me but for everyone else who owns the vehicle. Its a scary thought to know that at any given time my chassis can literally fall apart on me. We need this to be recalled due to the amount of complaints that it already as and the extremely poor design of this chassis.
Power locks go on and off by themselves. Power windows don't work , then suddenly works. Computer failure with brakes.
Brakesnot working properly.,when you step on brake you can feel the brake or tire spending and your car is still rolling when your are stepping on the brake.engine, turning the car engine on and off. When you start the engine the engines clicks but does not start. Its not the transmission. I have replaced the battery several times but still the same problem.
It is going to be a much more difficult road to face now without a car:'( i tried to explain my situation,safety/concern issues and hardship to kia customer care, but they will not help with anything nor will the dealership.toyota stepped up, what will it take for kia to??

Dealer reported that pads and rotors needed replaced at routeen 22,500mi. Check-up. "pads gone, rotors scored and beyond repair."
Brake pads needed replacement (told by dealer) and when they tried to replace them they found out the rotors needed replacement also.i only have 18000 miles on the car!!the pads shouldn't even need replacement, much less the rotors too!
We have gone through 3 sets of front brakes in just 32000 miles with normal wear and tear.dealer has replaced but has offered no reasonable explication for the continued wear.the first replacement at approximately 22000 miles included the rotors because the discs had "eaten" them.
Car purchased new, nov 2000.now has 29k miles.has had brakes, pads & rotors replaced twice because of excessive wear and pulsating when stopping. Done by dealer, who said common problem with the brakes on "these small cars". Now needs replaced again; doing same thing as before.also losesbrake fluid, 1/2 pint every few weeks.now just had left front bearing siezed up; pulled car to left into oncoming lane of traffic (no impact with other vehicles).dealer replaced both front axles, spindles, bearings, etc., but denies this is common problem.however, checking other complaints on record, find both brakes and the bearings problem are evidently very common.
Had to have rotors and pads replaced for 2nd time in 23000 miles. While brake job was being performed they found out that both bearing seals were completlely gone. Removed tires and hubs to find hubs completely contaminated with corrosion. Right front wheel was about to fall off. 4-wheel drive was also inoperative. Replaced both hus to include both rubber vacuum lines, four wheel solenoid and vacuum canister because of contamination.car drove fine for 3 days , now it has a loud squeel and front end vibration when applying brakesat a normal breaking speed of around 45 mph. Service dept. Could not duplicate problem....i will be returning vehicle back for further service immediately.there is now a groove in left front rotor after only about 400 miles of wear.
Brakes developed pulsation and vibration on application at any speed.dealer replaced front brakes and rotors to correct problem.problem continues to recur requiring replacement of same components.four failuires experienced in 31,000 miles and 24 months of driving.obviously a defective brake design.
Rotors and padswere replaced every 10,000 miles. The last time vehicle was repaired the rotors/pads and calipers were replaced.consumer stated brakes were replaced three times. Dealer claimed therewasnothing wrong with the vehicle.also dealer replaced left and right axles.
The brake pedal traveled all the way to the floor while braking. The dealer replaced the caliper and the problem still existed.
Brake caliper arm cracked, causingbrake pads and rotors to prematurely wear.please give any further details.

My car has only thirty thousand miles and the master brake cylinder is broken.i spoke to many automachenics and they all said that should not have have happen to the car at with only 30k.kia will fix it but only if i pay for it.this is a safety issue i keep my car in good condition and i shouldn't have to worry about my safety with a car that only has 30000.
Brake fluid has been continually leaking out, right now braking doesn't appear to be affected, but have to fill up reservoir at least once a week. Nlm
The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage.while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake icon illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the master cylinder failed.approximately 7 years later, the failure has recurred.the failure mileage was 40,000.updated 05/21/08 updated 05/20/08
When this front end system problem occurred while driving on the highway at approximately 60 miles per hour, i lost control of the vehicle and had to hold the steering wheel to try to gain control of the vehicle. It felt as though the car was being blown across the road as though a gusting heavy wind was pushing the car to the right side of the road and then it would feel as though the wheels were going to come off of the car. The power brakes also lost power and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and would not stop the car, and the the steering became more difficult becaise the car was just pulling to the right. I was terrified at driving under these conditions and was able to get off the highway at a very slow rate of speed and was able to park the car in a parking garage until it was towed to a kia dealership in philadelphia pa. (value kia). The kia dealership then apparently fixed my car, but it was discovered that the dealer used old recalled parts to repair my car and the same problem occurred ten days later. The dealer in ohio. Courtesy autoworld discovered upon my prompting them to check the work done at value kia, was discovered to be done improperly using bad unauthorized parts to repair my car at the time. This is a major defect with this vehicle which in my estimation can cause death or serious injury. The kia corp. Needs to address this problem and also address the issue of using bad unauthorized parts to fix the original problem, because usung those parts only increased the chance of this happening to the vehicle. There may be thousands of cars on the road with this potentially life threatening defect.

The steering gear sector shaft had broken entirely through.the wheel and inner and outer steering tie rods did not suffer significant impact. Wheel and steering tie rods do not appear to be bent. Front suspension components do not appear to have physical damage. It is uncommon for the steering gear sector shaft to break and may indicate possible flaw in the mechanical component. Evidence supports possible flaw and potential safety issue.

My 2000 kia sportage hasserious frame rust. The car is only ten years old and i am the original owner. I have taken very good care of this car and can't understand why this would happen. There seem to be many of the same complaints on this. I think this should be subject to a safety recall due to the frame being structurally compromised. This is serious. Consumer took car to dealer, and dealer said that there was something in steering column thatwaswrong.there was too much play insteering.
The frame where the rear stabilizer arm connects has completely rusted allowing the arm to fall away. The only thing supporting the arm now appears to be the fuel line which is attached to it. The rest of the frame is rusted out as well. There is not enough metal left to weld or repair. Had the arm broken the fuel line and sparked when it dragged on the road, this problem could have turned deadly. This is a very serious problem for a vehicle with only twelve years and 84k miles on the road.

2000 kia sportage headlights go out, right frame has a huge hole, my child is at risk car needs to be recalled also locks don't work, battery dies, seatbelts suck, radio goes off ...
The structure is rotten and unsafe to drive.i have seen many reports of this and cannot believe that it has not been recalled.
The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for muffler repairs when the mechanic advised her that the undercarriage of the frame was rusting. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 95,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2000 kia sportage. While driving at approximately 30-40 mph, the rear of the vehicle swayed back and forth. The contact noticed that the entire rear part of the frame near the rear passenger side tire had rusted and the stabilizing bar had fallen off on one side. The vehicle had not been inspected by at a dealership or repair shop at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 115,200. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
I was told by a mechanic that worked on the brakes that the frame was rotted in the fall of 2009. I changed the exhaust myself in the fall of 2010 and saw the frame was rotted so bad that i could put my hand completely through several of the holes and noticed several cracks. In march of 2011 the center link for the rear axle broke free from the rotted frame and fell down on top of the drive shaft. I did 2 days worth of very creative welding to put it back together. In april of 2011 gas tank began to leak. Put car up on jack stands to remove gas tank and found the frame had broken above left rear coil spring, the cross member just in front of the rear bumper has a 3-4 inch gap (rotted through-no metal left) and the rear axle has shifted over about 4" causing the right rear tire to rub against the shock. I am shocked that a car can rot this bad in only 10 years and there is still no recall. Wtf!!!!!
I notice there was something going on with the way i was turning the wheel of my car i took it to my garage and my mechanic told me to take the car home and call kia the person that made car stated the whole frame was rotten out and crack it could not be repaired the car should of not been on the road when spoke to kia they stated i needed to bring the car to the service center to look at it told them the same thing that my garage told them that the frame was crack and was unsafe to drive kia corp made me paid them $100 dollars to look at it and there mechanic did not want to put it on lift because he felt that is was going to fall apart he even advise me not to drive the car out they said they could do nothing about it because the car had over 100,000 hundred thousand miles on it. This vehicle is only 10 yrs old when this happen i feel that this kia problem my friend also has kia sportage and the same thing happen to his car is that why kia is so cheap on there motors for sale because of the parts that they sell.
Frame has rusted out from under, one side is completely broken at the rear and it will not be long until the other breaks. This is so shocking because there is no rust on the body of the car that i can tell.
The frame on the right side of the vehicle is almost broken in two pieces.
While driving 20 mphback part of vehicle started to fishtail rapidly across 3 lanes. Towed to dealer who found frame weldsthat hold suspension had broken.
Purchased 2000 kia sportage used.had rear tires replaced and found frame rusted through and cracked at suspension which was ready to break off the vehicle. Unable to drive car at this time it is unsafe.
Frame on my 2000 kia sportage completely rusted out. It cost me 1,300.00 to have it fixed. I should have called kia first but was not able to drive the car and had to get it done asap. I have put about 4,000 dollars into this car in the last year and a half from it rotting out.
My 2000 kia sportage has serious frame rust. The car is only ten years old and i am the original owner. I have taken very good care of this car and the stabilizer bar broke off of the frame and my mechanic states the frame is si rusted it is paper thin and advises not repairing as it would be hazardous. I think this should be subject to a safety recall due to the frame being structurally compromised. This is serious.
While my 2000 kia sportage was on the lift for an oil change and tire rotation the mechanic noticed major frame rust. Said it was unsafe to drive and a potential hazard in an accident if not noticed prior.would like kia to address this issue.
Entire undercarriage rusted out. Rust start with the shroud over gas tank.then the neck of the gas fill pipe corroded.now the entire chaise is rusted.i realize the car is 10 years old but it only has 54,500 original miles on it.kia should have been made to recall all of the 2000 sportages and forced to fix them. There are far too many of these still on the road and they have become a safety hazard.this not a matter of lack of maintenance, the car has been well care for.this is a matter of a manufacture being allowed to get away with selling an inferior product.time the nhtsa steps in and protects the american consumer.
When parking vehicle and pulling out the key noticed that key was very hot.glove compartment was also very hot. There was a noise in the steering wheel. When trying to turn. Consumer took car to dealer, and dealer said that there was something in steering column thatwaswrong.there was too much play insteering.
The chassis, and the auto body for this particular vehicle is not safe deteriorize and complete hoden i just talk the car to the mechanic when was find out. We believe that is manufacture problems.
Vehicle spun around & flipped over traveling at 25-30mph. Consumer feels speed isn't the cause. Dealer is sending a representative toinspectvehicle. The consumer says the vehicle is too light and too high up underneath.it is unsafe.
A strong wind is capable to misdirectvehicle or blowvehicle offroad in wet conditions.vehicle is difficult to keep in one lane when there are windy conditions.this generally happens at speeds higher than 35 mph .
The structure is rotten and unsafe to drive.i have seen many reports of this and cannot believe that it has not been recalled.
Consumer was traveling 30mph up a hill, attopvehicle jerked toleft.consumer managed to steer it back.vehicle began doing a 180 degree turn, hit an embankment, and airbags deployed.consumers was going 5-10mph upon impact. Dealership, after inspection, couldn't findanything wrong.
Connsumer was traveling 55mph onhighway, andsaid that vehicle was turning right onhighway without turningwheels. Vehicle was turning on its owndealership was aware of problem.but, mechaniccould notduplicate problem.the vehicle had other problems also.there were electrical shocks when placing key in ignition.the battery was losing power for unknown reason.there was a clicking sound on right front of the vehicle.
Consumerwas hearingnoise in the front ofvehicle.was told by mechanic that she had to pay for the repairs because they do not repair the suspension underwarrantyaftervehicle reached 35,000 miles or 3 years, which ever camefirst.consumer she had to pay $400.00 to getvehicle repaired, and did not feel this was fair. Also, dealer/mechanic told her that the vehicle slipped timing at 34,000 miles.
The vehicle pulls slightly to the right and if the steering wheel is let go for a few seconds the vehicle travels to the right.nlm
I purchased this kia sportage in november of 2004 with 36000 miles.noticed tranmission slipping during cold start up.brought back to dealer and was told this is normal.january 2005 cars idle and handling is becoming a hazard.car fishtales regardless of degree of turn or amount of dampness on the road.car is also shuddering when put into four wheel drive.march of 2005 was driving at about 50 when i heard a grinding noise from the left front wheel which got louder as i drove to get to the side of the road.as i pulled over the wheels locked and i heard a snapping sound as i skidded to a stop.i could not move the car, tried a few times and finally did get the car home.brought to atlantic kia and was told i needed a whole hub assembly. The inner seals were rotted and this allowed water and dust to enter the assembly and cause it to fail. This is a problem known to kia as i called and had words with them about there knowlege of this problem and was told that as long as it is not a recall there is nothing they will do to fix this problem of defective seals. I also asked if someone had to die before they made this a recall.he didnt have an answer.
Went to engage 4x4 in bad blizzard and got only grinding noise and no increase in traction. Dealer states hubs are corroded and vacuum seals and hoses need to be replaced. Seems to be a very common complaint. What good is a 4x4 if it is not working when you need it? dealer does not acknowledge common complaint.
Was going off to work on 3 different snow days engaged vehicle 4x4 (at least according to the idiot light i was ) proceeded to work so i slid all over the road and got stuck in 2 inches of snow. After 3rd attempt contacted dealer to ask if it was a known cause and they told me yes that there was a tsb for a new hub assembly. Cause the inner seals are failing due to the manufactures design of the 4x4 vacuum /seal system , i asked that if this is a failure in the design should the kia manufactures have made a recall for this defect in their workmanship, and was told "no" there is a fix for it but my 4x4 is not a safety issue it was a convenience issue and it would cost me $1000 dollars to fix , when i ask why wasn't it fixed in 2001 when i had it in for a 4x4 concern they told me that the tsb wasn't issued then but have found on different web sights that it was ..so to solve my own problem i ask the head technician at what use to be lynnfield kia "what caused the failure and is there a better solution" his response was we don't repair we just replace ...i feel if its a manufacturer defect in design it should be a recall.
While driving 65 mph the rear passenger side strut broke which caused a loud noise at the rear of the vehicle. *nlm

I have a 2000 kia sportage ex and i have had trouble with the power windows since i purchased the car in 2000.i took it to the dealership while it was under warranty andthey claim the windows were working and they could not locate any problem, i then had the window to stop working again and took it back this time it was not under warrranty and they said that the rear right window needed new motor and it would not work without this being done and the other three windows the wiring was loose i had the three windows fixed and paid for them.i got the vehicle home and noticed the air bag light flashing and called the dealership and told them that the light had never been on and could i bring it back in because ithappened while at dealership. I took the vehicle in and they told me the air bag was defective and it would cost 2000.00 to fix it i could not afford this and told them not to fix it. The windows stopped working a month later i called dealership to tell them that i had just had them fixed the month before and the windows should still be under warranty and told them the rear right window did work after they told me it wouldn't and they looked at the windows and told me they had fixed th problem of a wiring harness had come loose and i should not have any more problems with them.well now it has been over a year and they have stopped working again. I have had nothing but problems with the power windows.
Our rearwindshield wiper has never worked properly and as of march 1, 2004 our front wipers no longer work either. We had no warning that this was about to happen either and the car is no longer under warrantee. As it appears...the wiper motor is to blame in the front and possibly a wiper switch in the rear. Any help would be great since we bought the car used over 2 years ago and now have no warranty.
The front windsheild has air coming inside the vehicle while driving. *et

While driving 65 mphheard a grinding sound fromleft front wheel. Then, 3 loud clicks. She pulled over to checkwheel, andwas able to move left front tireback and forth with both hands about 2 inches. She then drove at a slow speed to nearest dealer. Dealer replaceddust boots on both front wheels/ replaced bearings, andboth ends of axle. On the way home after this repair, vehicle madesame noise again. Vehicleat dealer at this time. Dealer stated this was a known problem on 2000 sportage.
After vehicle was taken out of 4-wheel drive, a couple of days later, left front wheel started to grind. The grinding increased as the vehicle would reach speeds of 35 mph or below and would intensive as i would apply the brakes.
