During snow/ice weather conditions i lost control of my vehicle on 01/11/07 going straight on rt.380 in stockton, ny.my vehicle rolled over, and landed front end down, upside down in a ditch.during the crash, none of the three air bags engaged/released.because of the impact on the front end of my vehicle, think they should have released.no injury was done to myself, and no one was in my vehicle, but i was very lucky.nothing needed to be done to correct this failure.
When driving at any speed and applying the brakes vehicle shakes.also, air bag light andabs brake light stay on, and driver's side shoulder belt doesn't work.

Seat belt would continuously chime. The air bag light stays on after starting vehicle. Vehicle would start erratically. Door frame would leak. Convertible top did not stay closed. Vehicle would idle at 2000rpms when slowing down & almost stall out. Will be taking vehicle to dealer.

While traveling at 60 mph the consumer lost control of vehicle and rear ended the vehicle in front.none of the vehicles air bags deployed.the consumers right shoulder was injured as a result.*nlm
Recall 99v325000 work was corrected. Since recall work was doneengine check light illuminated on the dash. Consumer contacted the dealer. Dealernoted that recall problem has failed and wires went bad.also, air bag light was illuminating on the dash. Please provide any further details.
I bought the kia last year and have had the brake pads/parts replaced twice.the first time the brakes became bad, the vehicle had only about 8,000 miles on it.they explained that the brakes were wearing down because i was too hard on them.i have driven a ford pickup and never had problems with the brakes until i replaced them at 35, 000 miles.furthermore, i recently took it for an air bag light malfunction and there were two other people complaining about the brakes and apparently they had taken their kias for brake work before.one of the service personnel tried to explain to the couple that it had been 13,000 since the last brake work.the male stated that he has owns another car with no brake problems and it has about 25,000 miles on it.i feel they are using defected or cheap brake pads or something.as a matter of fact, i owned a kia sophia before trading it in for the sportage and the sophia had brake problems too.
While driving at 40 mph an accident occurred, and air bags did not deploy, injuries were involved, including a broken neck and ribs. Please provide any further information.

Upon being at a stop engine revved, andvehicle accelerated, landingin an intersection; whichcauseda collision. Consumer's vehicle hit a semi truck. Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy. Due to a previous incident vehicle was in cruise control mode. However, vehicle accelerated, and took off on its own. Consumer had to slam on brakes to stop the vehicle.
Vehicle collided with a guard rail and air bags failed to deploy.*ph on a separate occasion, the consumer had a falt tire, and when she removed the spare tire, the door and gate would not close.

Vehicle does not want to start, however, the radio and power windows are still working so it is not a battery issue.once the vehicle did start it would die when you started up from a stop at a traffic light and/or sometimes would simply die when put your foot on the gas pedal.i took it to a shop and they indicated it was a fuel pump issue.the following day after the fuel pump was repaired the vehicle did the same thing.the shop then indicating there had been a wiring recall so they changed out the wiring harness.two days later the vehicle almost died on the way to the airport, it would shake violently when idling and there was very limited power when i was attempting to accelerate.the shop looked at it again and the air manifest indicator came on so they cleaned out the air flow.two days later it was still doing the same thing.the shop then indicating that their sensor indicated a different part of the system was failing.the shop contacted a kia facilitated and was told it sounded like a computer issue, however, even if the computer was changed out, it could be a sensor issue and the vehicle would continue to die when i was driving in traffic and/or pulling from a stop.a vehicle that dies is a huge safety issue, and it does not sound like it can be easily fixed and/or kia does not want to do the work.
Consumer having problems with alternator, wire harness and spark plugs.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalls at various speeds and intermittently will not start.after sitting for a while the vehicle will restart.the dealership has been informed.there are no lights illuminated on the dash prior to the vehicle stalling. Dt: the vehicle takes about twenty minutes to start, it will turn over. The vehicle will stall in the middle of the road, and it will shake right before stalling.. Found recall99v325000 for the electrical system wiring but kia saidmy vehiclenot included in the recall due to vin.took vehicle totwo mechanic shops, and they couldnot find whatwas wrong with it. This started onapril 15, 2005.
A short in the electical system caused the battery to go dead and other electrical component failure.yh
While driving vehicle stalled.consumer tried to restart vehicle, but was unable to do so. Consumer contacted the manufacturer. Dealer informed consumer that this was not a recall pertaining to the information obtained fromall data 2cmp01c1. The consumer's vehicle exhibited all the symptoms of the kia recall 99v-32000.the consumer believes her vehicle's vin should have been included in the stalling recall.
Ecm not operable (check engine light reoccurring after service visits) going on 8 visis to the dealership for check engine light. 2 misdiagnosis , gas cap not tight enough, fuel canister valve. Purchased used 2 months ago, problem occurred 1 month after ownership. Have warranty with deductible. Have researched make and model history and fear that safety is a factor. First time owner of a 4wd and feel that what i thought was rough travel expected from a 4wd is something in the braking system, which seems to be common for this vehicle in my research.have asked for my money back , down pmt $2000 and trade in of $200, as my experience with the dealership has been more than unpleasant. I recieved "a slap in the face" offer which would have cost me $ 5000 a penalty for purchasing a vehicle only 2 months previous. Was not an as is sale, and i did purchase an extended warranty with deductible. In my book this type of business practice should be outlawed.
The contact owns a 1999 kia sportage. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted strong fuel fumes on the exterior and the interior. The dealer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a manufacturer's recall and the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact also stated that the timing belt failed three times and was replaced by a mechanic. The drive train failed once and was replaced by a mechanic. The crank shaft was also replaced once. The contact also was experiencing a transmission failure in which the gears slipped randomly and were slow to change over. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than three times and they were not able to remedy the failure. The contact replaced the seals due to the transmission failure. The fuel leak continued and was not repaired. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The failure mileage was 333,000.
Headlights randomly short out. A few months after i got the car.i brought the car back to dealership 3 times before the headlights would stay on.things were ok for a while but on 02/06/04 headlights shorted out again.02/07/04 headlights were back on.02/09/04 headlights out.brought car in to be serviced, and car was fixed.02/12/04 headlights out again.brought car to dealership 02/13/04.on 02/14/04 car was fixed.headlights stay on.very happy...at least for a week. 02/21/04 headlights out.am afraid of car.
This kia was purchased new and is a one owner car.it has had 2 master cylinders, and 4 sets of brake pads.the car currently has 50,000 miles on it.the car slides to the right on wet roads and does not stop until it hits something or slows to a stop.i have slid 2 times, rear ended someone the 3rd, and my son hit a light pole.the other times the brakes may or may not work.the problem is worse during rainy weather. The brakes go to the floor and the car does not stop.at times the brakes vibrate.this car has had a new cloth top, new air conditioning 2x, 5 catalytic converters, new carpet from the air leaking and molding, new seat covers as they ripped, new brakes, rotors, pads several items i have lost count, the check engine light comes on, the car has been re-wired, at times the car won't accelerate if the air conditioner is on.last night the highway patrol office wanted to know why i would endanger my son's life in a car that won't stop or slides.that is a good question.why are any of these models still on the highway when there are so many things wrong with them.in looking at the complaints there were many that dealt with the brakes.at this point is there any recourse with the car?i don't feel that i can sell it outright honestly and put someones life in danger.the highway patrol officer made me feel like a neglectful parent by even letting my son drive the car.we even parked it for 6 months trying to decide what to do with the car.my son's car was in the repair shop, so he took the kia.i feel that the car is a death trap.

Have hard time make horn go off, must be percice location, which in a serious time may not be properly located.
The horn will only work if a certain spot is touched.

We bought a 1999 kia in november of 1999. Since then we have had nothing but trouble with it. Every six months there is something gone wrong with it.
Dealership replaced front/right and front/left brake rotors and brake pads twice, july 2000 at 15,000 miles and august 2001 at 28,000 miles.front brake rotors continue to warp, resulting in excessive wear.vehicle was leaking oil, dealer tightened drain plug.vehicle would not start due to an internal starter failure. Evaporator drain hose was damaged and was causing water to leak on the floor.
I purchased my kia sportage 4x4 brand new in july of 1999 since i day i drove it off the lot it has been a constant source of stress and frustration.shortly after purchasing it the check engine light would continously come on and then the car would lurch and chug.car was towed back to the dealership and it was kept there for apporoximately 2and a half weeks.it has also had problems where it wouldn't start due to corrosion on the starter clip .this has happened twice.i also had the windshield wipers stop working on the way home from work in a snow storm with my four year old son in the back.it also started making a loud rumbling noise that sounded like i was driving over speed bumps.this led to them needing to replace the hubs, bearings, and axle shafts.car only had approximately 33000 miles on it.at the same time i was told that the front brake pads and rotors were bad and needed to be replaced.this was at a cost of $400.00 to me. I have very strong safety concerns with this vehicle.i do not like having myself or my child in the vehicle for fear of what else is going to happen with it and will we survive to tell about it.

In december of 2000 i purchased a kia sportage 1999 from mcgrath in elgin, il. From the beginning the front seat belt buckle did not always lock and the interior & exterior lights flickered.i took the vehicle to a local repair shop but they could not find why the lights flickered.on august 2, 2005 my vehicle died in front of a marathon gas station/repair shop in rolling meadows, il. The mechanic called me and told me i needed a new fuel pump.i told him to do the repair.the next day, the mechanic calls me to tell me that the fuel tank is so rusted it needs to be replaced and he has already called the kia dealer and the fuel tank is in "stock".i told him to do the repair.(please reference complaint #10131393).when i went to pick up the vehicle, it kept blowing the fuses and dying. I never got out of the gas station parking lot.i left the vehicle with them.on august 4, i had the vehicle with the original fuel pump and fuel tank towed to the mcgrath kia dealer in elgin, il.in the meantime, i got on the internet and did a search for kia recalls.my vehicle has 3 recalls- one for the front seat belt buckle campaign #04v305000, one for the electrical system wiring campaign #99v32500, and one for service brakes, hydraulic, foundation components: hoses, lines/piping and fittings campaign #98v222000.all of these recalls were in effect before i purchased the vehicle.i have asked the mcgrath kia dealer to fax me copies of the repairs for the recalls, but have not received anything in writing that these recalls were repaired before they sold me the vehicle.now i am waiting for the kia dealer to look at my vehicle.i was told it could be days. Phone interview update (oct. 31, 2005):no fuel leak; however, the tank was so badly rusted.she agreed to email pictures of the tank.
Email regarding recent complaint submitted involving 1999 kia sportage odi# 10023549.*mr the vehicle previously had a recall performed regarding the wiring harness, now the vehicle is stalling and surging. The consumer can not afford a new car so he wants the vehicle he has to be safe to drive.
My 1999 kia sportage will not start occasionally. I looked on the web to find the error and found recall number 99v325000 that is for an electrical system: wiring recall. I took my sportage into the dealer and explained that the sportage occassionally would not start, everything else would work perfectly.i had my starter and battery tested before i took it to the dealer both checked out fine.after having my car for 1 day the dealer stated that the only thing that they could find is that the starter wire had lost tension and that may be the problem.i asked about the recall and they stated when they put my car id number only two recalls showed one for emissions and the other for seat belt buckles.i called the kia manaufacturer hotline at 800.3333.4542 and they stated the same. I then looked on the nhtsa site to find out that there is a recall on my vehicle. I do remember getting letters regarding the other two recalls but not for the wiring recall.
Not only has the proportional braking valve failed,but also engine temp sensor,causing transmission failure, engine light came on,and hold light for the trasmission come on, and now the power window gets stuck open. We smell a faint smell of wire insulation burning,but service dept. Said they couldnt do any thing until the brake light came on and stayed on. He said there was a short in the wiring harness.this makes twice.
Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle stalled due to a loss of circuit continuity. There is a recall, #99v325000, pertaining to the electrical system: wiring. The vehicle has the same characteristics as listed in the recall however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

I serve on the nh lemon law board. We have had several (2 on 10/24) kia sportage cases with stalling problems at highiaway speeds. This vehicle has had a safety recall (kia recall s014) for a wiring harness for the fuel system. Vehicles that have had this recall still exhibit the problem. In review of the kia recall documents, i feel the recall is being done improperly. The steps to "repair" the wiring connector are poor at best. Testimony in one case by the kia factory rep indicated the recall was done incorrectly. This wiring connector should be replaced....not repaired!! kia customers are still driving vehicles with a false sense of security after having the s014 recall performed. I have a 1999 kia sportage.on 23 april, 2003 i accelerated after stopping at a stop sign at an intersection and all of a sudden i heard a "clunk" sound coming from my transmission, my vehicle stalled in the middle of the intersection and the "hold" light and the "check engine" light came on.i was able to get the vehicle moving again after a few seconds and after checking things out in a local parking lot and not seeing anything wrong under the hood i took it to a local dealer to get fixed.the vehicle was put on the diagnostics machine and it showed the p0101 code.the fix for this problem is around $500 and my warranty doesn't cover this problem.kia has a bulletin on how to fix this problem, so they are aware that this problem exists.i called kia about the problem and the person i spoke with was very rude and refused to listen to my complaint and told me it's my problem, there's nothing they can do and this problem isn't a recall because it's not a safety concern.i don't see how it's not a safety concern when my vehicle stalled in the middle of an intersection!also, $500 is a lot of money especially when warranty's don't cover it.everybody from the warranty company and the dealer have all told me that this should be a safety concern, thus should be a recall.the folks at the warranty company said that about 95% of the people that call in with this type of vehicle are calling in about this type of problem.thank you for your time. *nlm

Contacted manufacturer , and recall information was confirmed.manufacturer will not release notification by mail only verbatim by phone.
This vehicle has had a previous recall because of reported failure of this wiring harness.
4-wd not working, hubs not locking. Engine is straining as if in 4wd, indicator light is lit, leading you to believe you are safely in 4wd, but the back tires are spinning and the front tires are not turning. The dealer has checked the truck and ordered parts...that was 2 weeks ago, and dealer has no idea when the parts will be in. Kia has not responded to the dealer's inquiry. The wire harness that was replaced took a week because kia sent a faulty harness as a replacement and the part had to be reordered.
Consumer used directional signal to pull into the driveway, however the flashers would not go off even after the vehicle was shut off, consumer removed the fuse and took vehicle to the dealer, dealer put fuse back in and the problem hasn't occurred again.
Dt: the contact states the dashboard lights will stay on which caused the battery to die. A fuse kept blowing, out,but shewas not sure which fuse. She had a mechanic look at the car, and he said the problem was definitely electrical. She started having this problem at the end of august. The contact saw recall 99v325000 on the internet but wasnot sure if this vehiclewasincluded in this recall. Shedid notto a dealer about thisproblem, but planned to doso when she finished this call. Keyway on crankshaft where timing gear attaches wears out prematurely and can result in having to replace engine! i have replace throttle position sensor, fuel filter, and knock sensor also the mass airflow sensor and timing belt were replaced as there appeared to be a timing issue could not find problem so took to kia dealer to find the keyway on crankshaft to be so worn you could almost turn gear allthe way around! in all the years i have been working on vehicles this is the first time i have ever seen this and is very obviously a manufacturer defect!

Consumer had the same problems as mentioned innhtsa recall 99v325000.the wires connected to the c123 and c124 connectors can be put under tension by movement of the engine, thus pulling the wires and connectors, and loosening them . This results in a loss of circuit continuity. Dealership indicated to the consumer this vehicle was not covered under the recall due to vin.
While driving at any speed vehicle will intermittently stall.after a few minutes sittingvehicle can be restarted. Manufacturer and dealer have been notified of the problem.

I am the owner of a 99 kia sportage with only 19000 miles on it bought new with only 10 miles on it back in 99. This suv has beennothing but problems from day one, with everything from the ac to the 4 wheel drive needing repaired twice in one day, to the most seriousproblem happening on 8-19-02 when my right rear anti sway bar bracket breaks away from where it was welded on the frame in the factory ( theorg. Welds just broke )as my daughter and i are driving this suv home one evening causingthis suv to be all over the road and uncontrollable.luckily no one was hurt or killed because of this. Kia accepts no responsibilty for this. But it was there welds done in there factory when they made this suv. 1999 kia sportage has had timing belt replaced three times since i bought car new in 1999. While traveling on nj turnpike, what we believed was the timing belt yet again was the crank shaft at the harmonic balance (which holds the timing belt in place) completely snapped into two pieces inside the engine.i spoke to several different kia service departments who advised me that this was not a normal thing and was in no way due to something we could have done. I was told by my kia dealer that the manufacturers warranty had expired last year and that i was responsible for the defect in the kia. The first three times that the timing belt wasreplacedthe warranty covered. Now i am told i must pay for a new engine. Be advised that every time this happened the car was going 55 m.p.h.or over. It is my belief that was caused by a manufacturing defect and that kia should be held accountable. There has never been any collision or any other event that has taken place for this to occur. We are just lucky that we have never been hurt or killed in this car!

Many safety problems please help.vehicle has stalled 4 times at highway speeds and the dealer says they cannot duplicate the problem somebody is going to be killed or seriously injured. 4 wheel drive inoperable during severe snowstorm.blower motor for the heater has been replace twice now both times subzero weather.the starter was rewired once and then replace twice, every time vehicle was inoperable and had to be towed.catalytic convertor replaced once so far. Driver side wiper arm broke off at 55 mph during rainstormspare tire release replaced two times now first time couldn't open it, second time it wouldn't shut. Water coming in from somewhere running along the bottom of the glove box dealer doesn't have time to look at it. Muffler assembly replaced as well as the battery after all the starter problems. I hpe somebody does something with these vehicles before some major tradgedies occur, i already saw at least one fatality on the complaint board while skimming over it.i have called the district manager several times only to be told i was the only one complaining about these safety issues and the last time i spoke with him he hung up on me.i have two small children and i am not sure how safe this vehicle really is
While pulling out of the garage vehicle stalled, and the garage door fell down onto the roof of the vehicle. Also,alternator and the battery went completely out. Engine check light was on for a week. Ihave to warm my car up at least 35 minutes so that it will not stop at railcrossings, stop signs and red lights.i f i do not continue to run my heater in the car on warm the problem will start again when i make a stop or slow down.when i leave work in the afternoon, i have to go through the same process.i have taken my car to the dealership on several occasions.they say they can not find out what is wrong with the car. Cd player replaced on 05/19/99 because a cd was stuck in it due to an electrical shortage (per kia service center), cd player will not accept cds and will eject them immediately since 08/15/1999, not replaced due to the units being on "back order" since july of 1999, service center investigated a possible fluid leak and found no leak on 11/11/99, service center investigated a horrible exhaust/cabron monoxide smell coming into cabin of vehicle, found no problems but they replaced the catalyst converter anyway.on 11/11/99 less than 10 minutes after picking up the vehicle, the horrible smell came back again 10 times worse than originally, had to wait an entire week to return the vehicle for service because they were "booked up."on 11/17/99 returned vehicle to service department bec of continous exhaust/carbon monoxide smell in cabin causing terrible headaches.they claim to have replaced some kind of a canister but had no real documentation proving so.said they could not find a cause for the odors/fumes and gave me a rental car.after no responce from dealership in 48 hours as to a staus update, was told that a "kia motors field representative" would be coming to the dealership on 11/22/99 to look at the vehicle.on 11/22/99 was told the rep would be there on 11/23/99.on 11/23/99 was told he would be there on 11/24/99.on 11/24/99 was told by dealership owner to come pick up my vehicle in it's current un-repaired condition because the field rep. Would not be out for another 2-4 weeks and the dealership could not afford to provide me with the rental car for that length of time.meanwhile, the cd player still has not been replaced or repaired and/or even looked at because 'they're on back order with our distributor" and having to drive a vehicle that is putting exhaust/carbon monoxide odors/fumes into the cabin of the vehicle.

I am the owner of a 99 kia sportage with only 60043 miles. I bought the vehicle brand new.the vehicle stalled at 40 mph, luckily, it did not stalled at 75 mph while i was taking one of my daily trips to ok city because it would have been disastrous.the crankshaft sheared off flush with the engine housing leaving the main and timing belt pulleys disconnected from the engine. As consequent, the engine stalled leaving the vehicle without power in the middle of traffic.no one was hurt or killed because of this. Contacted the kia dealer and they will not take anyresposibility for this defective part.this is the kind ofsafe product that makeskia customers not to be repeat customers.

I have a 1999 kia sportage which has a convertible top on the back part. When the inside air flow button is on it causes the top to flap so hard that the entire vehicle begins to shake. It also so cause such a vibration that it hurts your ears . But you donot always have to have the inside air flow on for this happen.when you get up to about 65 or 70 it will do it any way. There is know way you can travel at all with the inside air flow button in unless you want to go crazy. Plus the shaking of the vehicle is also a nightmare i do belive it could cause someone to lose control . I have contacted the dealer about it before they tried to act as if they did not know what the problem was. But today i took it in and they admited their had been other complaints. They are going to replace the top but i donot think the dealer even thinks this will work.

I have a 1999 kia sportage with less than 35,000 miles on it as of july 5, 2006.in november of 2005 i started noticing a really strong fuel smell.shortly thereafter i noticedfluid leaking from the rear of my vehicle.i took it in around thanksgiving to find out that the gas tank had to be replaced. I had to pay almost $1,000 for this repair.also, in may of 2006power steering fluid leaked all over my garage while the car was in summer storage.upon further investigation it is due to the power steering pressure hose damping pipe rusting out. This car has also already have to get new front brake rotors (rusted/warped) as well as a new exhaust pipe since the previously one rusted off the muffler.within the first couple years one of the bearings went bad and they ended up replacing the whole front axle unit.this car has had many problems and with less than 35,000 miles on it basically makes me sick to my stomach.i am reporting this to you after reading on www.kia.com technical/owners section about a "service campaign" for the leaking fuel tanks in may 2006.nobody has notified me and i just happened to run into myself as i was researching information related to the power steering system since that started leaking in may 2006.

The heat shield on my catalytic converter rusted off,the manifold cracked,the muffler rusted through within a year,the widshield wiper transmission broke and was replaced,while the kia sportage is engaged in4wdit pops out into two wheel drive and causes the driver to lose control of the vehicle.this has happened to me numerous times this winter and the recalled parts have now failed again causing kia to put in manual hubs from 1997 into my 1999 suv.i feel this is a danger to all who own a kia sportage and i have contacted a lawyer to look into possible litigation against kia.i have found a recall on a previouse modle from 1998 but the components seals are failing in the replacment parts hubs .thank in advance for your time and letting me inform you of this dangerouse situation...ed geisler.

The brakes go to the floor and the car does not stop.at times the brakes vibrate.this car has had a new cloth top, new air conditioning 2x, 5 catalytic converters, new carpet from the air leaking and molding, new seat covers as they ripped, new brakes, rotors, pads several items i have lost count, the check engine light comes on, the car has been re-wired, at times the car won't accelerate if the air conditioner is on.last night the highway patrol office wanted to know why i would endanger my son's life in a car that won't stop or slides.that is a good question.why are any of these models still on the highway when there are so many things wrong with them.in looking at the complaints there were many that dealt with the brakes.at this point is there any recourse with the car?i don't feel that i can sell it outright honestly and put someones life in danger.the highway patrol officer made me feel like a neglectful parent by even letting my son drive the car.we even parked it for 6 months trying to decide what to do with the car.my son's car was in the repair shop, so he took the kia.i feel that the car is a death trap.
Catalytic converter was recalled and replaced by the dealer in 2001, rattling and not working correctly since (engine light on - diagnostic says converter), return to dealer approximately. 2 months later, they verified everything was ok, would not pass smog the next year, returned to dealer they say it is the converter again, will not pay to replace again. Car runs with no power and is a danger on the road.*la

The heat shield on my catalytic converter rusted off,the manifold cracked,the muffler rusted through within a year,the widshield wiper transmission broke and was replaced,while the kia sportage is engaged in4wdit pops out into two wheel drive and causes the driver to lose control of the vehicle.this has happened to me numerous times this winter and the recalled parts have now failed again causing kia to put in manual hubs from 1997 into my 1999 suv.i feel this is a danger to all who own a kia sportage and i have contacted a lawyer to look into possible litigation against kia.i have found a recall on a previouse modle from 1998 but the components seals are failing in the replacment parts hubs .thank in advance for your time and letting me inform you of this dangerouse situation...ed geisler.

Cd player replaced on 05/19/99 because a cd was stuck in it due to an electrical shortage (per kia service center), cd player will not accept cds and will eject them immediately since 08/15/1999, not replaced due to the units being on "back order" since july of 1999, service center investigated a possible fluid leak and found no leak on 11/11/99, service center investigated a horrible exhaust/cabron monoxide smell coming into cabin of vehicle, found no problems but they replaced the catalyst converter anyway.on 11/11/99 less than 10 minutes after picking up the vehicle, the horrible smell came back again 10 times worse than originally, had to wait an entire week to return the vehicle for service because they were "booked up."on 11/17/99 returned vehicle to service department bec of continous exhaust/carbon monoxide smell in cabin causing terrible headaches.they claim to have replaced some kind of a canister but had no real documentation proving so.said they could not find a cause for the odors/fumes and gave me a rental car.after no responce from dealership in 48 hours as to a staus update, was told that a "kia motors field representative" would be coming to the dealership on 11/22/99 to look at the vehicle.on 11/22/99 was told the rep would be there on 11/23/99.on 11/23/99 was told he would be there on 11/24/99.on 11/24/99 was told by dealership owner to come pick up my vehicle in it's current un-repaired condition because the field rep. 1995 to 2002 kia sportages frames are rotting out and gas tanks leaking also. Kia refuses to repair or put out a recall on this issue. Vehicles are a safety issue to the public. Ford windstars had similar problems from 1998 to 2003 back axle rotting out, they are taking action and owning up to the problem. I have been a state inspection mechanic for the state of pa. For 35yrs this defect is going to cause several crashes, maybe deaths. Kia is not concerned about this matter any help would be great. Thanks

1999 kia sportage, had a gas leak got it repaired with a new tank last year, still have a gas smell. I have taken it back several times for the smell they cannot find the problem, of course this is my regular mechanic not a kia dealer.now the frame is busted from premature rusting and disintegration which is holding up the gas tank.check engine light is constantly on for "evap leak" . No power when a/c is running.a/c now has leak.constantly smell a burning smell just before the check engine light comes on. Also constantly blows fuses for power windows etc.this is a death trap for sure, you can imagine my surprise when i was advised not to drive my grandbabies in this car it is unsafe...and when they refused to fix it as they couldn't take responsibility for the safety of the vehicle when trying to fix a framing problem. This car has had very good maintenance, oil changes, tires etc. And only has 114,000 miles , i never dreamed i would have to find another car so soon.i really thought i should have at least another 100,000 to go!
I own a 1999 kia sportage and recently had it racked to see what the noise was that was coming from underneath my car. The entire undercarriage has rusted out and the fame is separating from each other, leaning on the shock absorbers on both sides, there are large holes in the fame where they have rusted through, the fuel tank and shield is rusted out and this car is a ticking time bomb, ready to fall apart, and or if anything hits the fuel tank it will disintegrate and possibly explode. This car is literally coming apart underneath.two of the doors panels underneath have rusted away. Everything is rusted and it scares me to death to be driving it now that i have seen the undercarriage. I have many photos to submit for proof of the problem.apparently this car has been rusting for some time and i have never noticed it. I bought it brand new in september of 1999. It has prematurely rusted out unlike most vehicles which last for many years. I was informed by my brother this past summer and he told me that there was a service campaign on the fuel tank but when i took it to the dealer, they said it was past the 10 year mark by a few months and they wouldn't do anything about it. I have been in contact with kia to gather information about recalls and service campaign notices of which i only was notified about 3 or 4 of them shortly after i purchased it.

Vehicle does not want to start, however, the radio and power windows are still working so it is not a battery issue.once the vehicle did start it would die when you started up from a stop at a traffic light and/or sometimes would simply die when put your foot on the gas pedal.i took it to a shop and they indicated it was a fuel pump issue.the following day after the fuel pump was repaired the vehicle did the same thing.the shop then indicating there had been a wiring recall so they changed out the wiring harness.two days later the vehicle almost died on the way to the airport, it would shake violently when idling and there was very limited power when i was attempting to accelerate.the shop looked at it again and the air manifest indicator came on so they cleaned out the air flow.two days later it was still doing the same thing.the shop then indicating that their sensor indicated a different part of the system was failing.the shop contacted a kia facilitated and was told it sounded like a computer issue, however, even if the computer was changed out, it could be a sensor issue and the vehicle would continue to die when i was driving in traffic and/or pulling from a stop.a vehicle that dies is a huge safety issue, and it does not sound like it can be easily fixed and/or kia does not want to do the work.
I had just filled gas tank with unleaded gas. When i noticed a strong gas smell. The car sits all day. I only move it for emissions each year i work from home. They tested and told me evap emission control sys malf. The guy said he could see gas leaking from my fuel line. He said it was a recall on this to check with kia. Kia told me my vin number did not match the recall. This car does not see alot of action there is no reason other than a few good snows that may have rusted the tank other wise why would my tank all of a sudden leak gas. This is a hazard that i think kia should be responsible for. I am the second owner of the car and have had it longer than the first. I have experienced first hand some issues this model has had which kia took care of. But they refuse this.
The contact owns a 1999 kia shortage. The contact stated after dispensing fuel into the full tank, he would smell a strong odor of fuel inside and outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they were unable to locate the problem. There was a manufacture voluntary recall pertaining to the fuel system. The contact notified the dealer and they informed that safety recall expired. In addition, the fuel tank was not in stock. The problem persisted and became progressively worse. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.updated 2/23/11 the consumer stated the fuel tank and fuel pump had rust problems. The chassis of my 1999 kia sportage is rotting out.i have had to have the railings welded together, one railing has a hole about 6 in long on the side of the railing and the gas tank has to be replace.but if the tank is removed the part of the chassis it is attached to will come off and there will be no way to attach a new one.
On december 22, 2008, during vehicle inspection, found gas smell and possible leak in gas tank.phone kia dealership, and they indicated that there was a service campaign, and to bring the vehicle in for a fuel tank inspection (along with some other recall repairs).on 1/2/2009, the vehicle was inspected by the kia dealership, and they indicated that the fuel tank was leaking from the bottom of the tank, and that this was a known issue and may be covered by a service campaign.however, the mileage on the vehicle was 137,700 miles, and the limit was 130,000 for kia to reimburse.i indicated that i had never received an notice of this problem.further investigation showed that there were at least two (2) service campaigns (sc059 and rb001) which dated back to may 2006, and january 2008.had i been notified, the vehicle would have had much less than the limit of 130,000 miles.i phoned and e-mailed customer support (no mailing address listed).during the phone conversation with steve, i was informed "too bad, but it is out of the mileage limit and there is nothing we can do.not sure why you never got a notice".when i e-mailed, i received a phone reply (after the second e-mail) from steve stating "we already discussed this.not sure why you e-mailed since this was already addressed".i feel that a problem as important as a leaking fuel tank should not be left to chance, waiting for a regular inspection or an actual leak to detect it.i feel that kia should be responsible for a recall, and should also be responsible for the cost of the repair.currently i have repaired the tank, while looking for a replacement tank.thank you for your time.

In december of 2000 i purchased a kia sportage 1999 from mcgrath in elgin, il. From the beginning the front seat belt buckle did not always lock and the interior & exterior lights flickered.i took the vehicle to a local repair shop but they could not find why the lights flickered.on august 2, 2005 my vehicle died in front of a marathon gas station/repair shop in rolling meadows, il. The mechanic called me and told me i needed a new fuel pump.i told him to do the repair.the next day, the mechanic calls me to tell me that the fuel tank is so rusted it needs to be replaced and he has already called the kia dealer and the fuel tank is in "stock".i told him to do the repair.(please reference complaint #10131393).when i went to pick up the vehicle, it kept blowing the fuses and dying. I never got out of the gas station parking lot.i left the vehicle with them.on august 4, i had the vehicle with the original fuel pump and fuel tank towed to the mcgrath kia dealer in elgin, il.in the meantime, i got on the internet and did a search for kia recalls.my vehicle has 3 recalls- one for the front seat belt buckle campaign #04v305000, one for the electrical system wiring campaign #99v32500, and one for service brakes, hydraulic, foundation components: hoses, lines/piping and fittings campaign #98v222000.all of these recalls were in effect before i purchased the vehicle.i have asked the mcgrath kia dealer to fax me copies of the repairs for the recalls, but have not received anything in writing that these recalls were repaired before they sold me the vehicle.now i am waiting for the kia dealer to look at my vehicle.i was told it could be days. I have a 1999 kia sportage with less than 35,000 miles on it as of july 5, 2006.in november of 2005 i started noticing a really strong fuel smell.shortly thereafter i noticedfluid leaking from the rear of my vehicle.i took it in around thanksgiving to find out that the gas tank had to be replaced. I had to pay almost $1,000 for this repair.also, in may of 2006power steering fluid leaked all over my garage while the car was in summer storage.upon further investigation it is due to the power steering pressure hose damping pipe rusting out. This car has also already have to get new front brake rotors (rusted/warped) as well as a new exhaust pipe since the previously one rusted off the muffler.within the first couple years one of the bearings went bad and they ended up replacing the whole front axle unit.this car has had many problems and with less than 35,000 miles on it basically makes me sick to my stomach.i am reporting this to you after reading on www.kia.com technical/owners section about a "service campaign" for the leaking fuel tanks in may 2006.nobody has notified me and i just happened to run into myself as i was researching information related to the power steering system since that started leaking in may 2006.

When the gears are changed to third and fourth,transmission grinds. Dealer has inspectedvehicle five times, and has not been able to correct or duplicate the problem.
While pulling out of the garage vehicle stalled, and the garage door fell down onto the roof of the vehicle. Also,alternator and the battery went completely out. Engine check light was on for a week. In addition,when shiftinggears,transmissionwasn't shifting properly. Technician says he can't duplicate it.this jerking occurs several times a week and after the car has warmed up.this is dangerous on the roads in the winter and can cause loss of control of the vehicle.tailgate assembly has been repaired at least two times - it fails to shut properly - which allows exhaust fumes to enter vehicle.the tailgate has to be shut three or more times before finally closing.problem has not been fixed.same problem - not shutting properly - with passenger side rear doors.during the winter, inside of windows stayed "fogged up" preventinga clear view of traffic.defrost failed to clear moisture inside vehicle.dealership said this was normal.

I have a 1999 kia sportage with less than 35,000 miles on it as of july 5, 2006.in november of 2005 i started noticing a really strong fuel smell.shortly thereafter i noticedfluid leaking from the rear of my vehicle.i took it in around thanksgiving to find out that the gas tank had to be replaced. I had to pay almost $1,000 for this repair.also, in may of 2006power steering fluid leaked all over my garage while the car was in summer storage.upon further investigation it is due to the power steering pressure hose damping pipe rusting out. This car has also already have to get new front brake rotors (rusted/warped) as well as a new exhaust pipe since the previously one rusted off the muffler.within the first couple years one of the bearings went bad and they ended up replacing the whole front axle unit.this car has had many problems and with less than 35,000 miles on it basically makes me sick to my stomach.i am reporting this to you after reading on www.kia.com technical/owners section about a "service campaign" for the leaking fuel tanks in may 2006.nobody has notified me and i just happened to run into myself as i was researching information related to the power steering system since that started leaking in may 2006.

Water coming in from somewhere running along the bottom of the glove box dealer doesn't have time to look at it. Muffler assembly replaced as well as the battery after all the starter problems. I hpe somebody does something with these vehicles before some major tradgedies occur, i already saw at least one fatality on the complaint board while skimming over it.i have called the district manager several times only to be told i was the only one complaining about these safety issues and the last time i spoke with him he hung up on me.i have two small children and i am not sure how safe this vehicle really is

In december of 2000 i purchased a kia sportage 1999 from mcgrath in elgin, il. From the beginning the front seat belt buckle did not always lock and the interior & exterior lights flickered.i took the vehicle to a local repair shop but they could not find why the lights flickered.on august 2, 2005 my vehicle died in front of a marathon gas station/repair shop in rolling meadows, il. The mechanic called me and told me i needed a new fuel pump.i told him to do the repair.the next day, the mechanic calls me to tell me that the fuel tank is so rusted it needs to be replaced and he has already called the kia dealer and the fuel tank is in "stock".i told him to do the repair.(please reference complaint #10131393).when i went to pick up the vehicle, it kept blowing the fuses and dying. I never got out of the gas station parking lot.i left the vehicle with them.on august 4, i had the vehicle with the original fuel pump and fuel tank towed to the mcgrath kia dealer in elgin, il.in the meantime, i got on the internet and did a search for kia recalls.my vehicle has 3 recalls- one for the front seat belt buckle campaign #04v305000, one for the electrical system wiring campaign #99v32500, and one for service brakes, hydraulic, foundation components: hoses, lines/piping and fittings campaign #98v222000.all of these recalls were in effect before i purchased the vehicle.i have asked the mcgrath kia dealer to fax me copies of the repairs for the recalls, but have not received anything in writing that these recalls were repaired before they sold me the vehicle.now i am waiting for the kia dealer to look at my vehicle.i was told it could be days. Phone interview update (oct. 31, 2005):no fuel leak; however, the tank was so badly rusted.she agreed to email pictures of the tank.

The retractor to the driver's side seatbelt just fell off while driving the vehicle down the road.and when i say fell off, i mean literally fell off.my daughter heard the retractor fall down the side panel.the seatbeat then had no resistance and would not retract, leaving the seatbelt useless.after closer examination, i found the plastic dowels holding the retacting mechanism to the seatbelt had just fallen off or worn away.had this failure occurred during an accident, there could have been serious injuries.seems these plastic dowels should be replaced with metal or steel ones.this problem should be reported to kia asap.

I bought the kia last year and have had the brake pads/parts replaced twice.the first time the brakes became bad, the vehicle had only about 8,000 miles on it.they explained that the brakes were wearing down because i was too hard on them.i have driven a ford pickup and never had problems with the brakes until i replaced them at 35, 000 miles.furthermore, i recently took it for an air bag light malfunction and there were two other people complaining about the brakes and apparently they had taken their kias for brake work before.one of the service personnel tried to explain to the couple that it had been 13,000 since the last brake work.the male stated that he has owns another car with no brake problems and it has about 25,000 miles on it.i feel they are using defected or cheap brake pads or something.as a matter of fact, i owned a kia sophia before trading it in for the sportage and the sophia had brake problems too.
I have replaced my rotors 4 times and they have been ground down 2 times.the first time i took my car in for brake problems i had 2852 miles on my car.

The vehicle makes noise when starting in the morning. First, said it was end play in the crank then the water pump, then its the alternater then they replace the valve. Last year i had a front end alignment done onmy 1999 kia sportage as far as i can tell the lockdown nuts were not tightened correctly causing water to get in and corroding the linkage between the tie rod ends. I happened to be moving the car this weekend and heard an awful klunking sound, upon some investigating i noticed the tie rod end just about ready to be seperated from the adjuster link.if this would have happened on the highway my wife who is primary driver of this vehicle could have been seriously hurt or could have had an accident and hurt someone else.

Throttle:car intermittently jerks in first and second gears.service person at dealership has been present and experienced this and said throttle has problems, but problem continues to be unresolved. I own a 1999 kia sportage and recently had it racked to see what the noise was that was coming from underneath my car. The entire undercarriage has rusted out and the fame is separating from each other, leaning on the shock absorbers on both sides, there are large holes in the fame where they have rusted through, the fuel tank and shield is rusted out and this car is a ticking time bomb, ready to fall apart, and or if anything hits the fuel tank it will disintegrate and possibly explode. This car is literally coming apart underneath.two of the doors panels underneath have rusted away. Everything is rusted and it scares me to death to be driving it now that i have seen the undercarriage. I have many photos to submit for proof of the problem.apparently this car has been rusting for some time and i have never noticed it. I bought it brand new in september of 1999. It has prematurely rusted out unlike most vehicles which last for many years. I was informed by my brother this past summer and he told me that there was a service campaign on the fuel tank but when i took it to the dealer, they said it was past the 10 year mark by a few months and they wouldn't do anything about it. I have been in contact with kia to gather information about recalls and service campaign notices of which i only was notified about 3 or 4 of them shortly after i purchased it.
The frame is all rust. I had to have the stabilizer bar welded where it come lose from the frame from rust. The bar was on the rear of the car witch maidit go all over the road.

1995 to 2002 kia sportages frames are rotting out and gas tanks leaking also. Kia refuses to repair or put out a recall on this issue. Vehicles are a safety issue to the public. Ford windstars had similar problems from 1998 to 2003 back axle rotting out, they are taking action and owning up to the problem. I have been a state inspection mechanic for the state of pa. For 35yrs this defect is going to cause several crashes, maybe deaths. Kia is not concerned about this matter any help would be great. Thanks

Cracked chassis in a 1999 kia sportage due to corrosion.
I was driving on the interstate and hit a bump when my car began swaying back and forth from side to side. I had a very hard time maintaining control. I slowly drove home and upon further inspection underneath my 1999 kia sportage i discover the frame is totally rusted to the point of falling apart. The passenger side of the frame is almost non existent and the drivers side isn't much better there are holes and pieces of the frame gone. I have been reading on line that this is a huge problem my 11 year old daughter or myself could have been killed because of this defect, please do something so others will not have to worry about this.
While driving home at the end of novemeber with my 4 children 13,12, 2and18 month old twins my car began to rock from side to side out of control. I pulled over and figured it was a flat tire. It was not. I proceeded to drive home and thought maybe it was my power steering. In order to drive the car home i had to drive about 2 miles an hour. Luckily i was only a few miles away .. After i had a friend come by to check out the car and that is when we realized that the back sway bar was hanging to the ground. It had completely broken off the frame at the bracket where it was welded to the frame. There was about a 10-12 inch hole in the frame and both the bracket and the frame where broken were covered inside and out with rust. I called the dealer and they said that my warranty was up. I asked them to reference where in the handbook they would warranty the frame. After going back and forth with them for the last 3 months they have done nothing for me. They keep saying that it is not a warranty item. I had my insurance company come look at the car. They took digital pictures and he said that is clearly a manufacture defect and a terrible insufficient weld job and it was not sealed would explain the rust. No one will fix it not even the dealer because they said that it is not safe to fix. The insurance company also said that the other side is beginning to rust as well. This could have caused a horrific accident if this would have happened 5 minutes prior while i was driving on a highway 70 mph. They refused to give me any answers or help and keep telling me to refer to my warranty.

4-wd not working, hubs not locking. Engine is straining as if in 4wd, indicator light is lit, leading you to believe you are safely in 4wd, but the back tires are spinning and the front tires are not turning. The dealer has checked the truck and ordered parts...that was 2 weeks ago, and dealer has no idea when the parts will be in. Kia has not responded to the dealer's inquiry. The wire harness that was replaced took a week because kia sent a faulty harness as a replacement and the part had to be reordered.

While exiting the highway on an off ramp, approx. 20-30 mph, the left front tire blew out on the side of the tire forcing the vehicle to slam into a guardrail and damaging the front corner and side of vehicle from front to back. There were no injuries.insurance covered the damage and also tried to contact manufacturer of tire for damages but they denied any responsibility. The car only had 12000 miles and very little tire wear and the insurance adjuster said it should have been caused from a defective tire. The company denied and we had to pay. Traveling through the mountains of kentucky on a mild day - temp around 60, the left rear tire treads separated, causing the vehicle to immediately veer off of the roadway while traveling at the posted speed limit of 70 mpg.in appearance, the tread had a 2-inch wide by 1-inch deep by 2 foot long "gash" removed from the tire.all other tires had cracks deep into the sidewalls and were, as a precaution, replaced with a set of goodyear tires.the tire has been videotaped and photographed. Engine check light keeps coming on which is a reoccurring problem. Also, due to defect vehicle has stalled twice; once in reverse gear, and in drive gear. Dealer had vehicle on numerous occasions, and claimed that a sensor was the cause.

In addition,when shiftinggears,transmissionwasn't shifting properly. Passenger's side window was jammed and stuck half way up.finally, when applying the gas pedal there was a pounding noise, and no power within the vehicle.
Recall 99v325000 work was corrected. Since recall work was doneengine check light illuminated on the dash. Consumer contacted the dealer. Dealernoted that recall problem has failed and wires went bad.also, air bag light was illuminating on the dash. Please provide any further details.
Not only has the proportional braking valve failed,but also engine temp sensor,causing transmission failure, engine light came on,and hold light for the trasmission come on, and now the power window gets stuck open. We smell a faint smell of wire insulation burning,but service dept. Said they couldnt do any thing until the brake light came on and stayed on. He said there was a short in the wiring harness.this makes twice.
Engine check light keptcoming on while driving. Taken vehicle to dealership & mechanic repaired it each time.engine check light would come on again. Finally was informed the electrical system was the problem & no corrective solution was found.
We noticed yellow streaks over time on the hood where the engine block and radiator are positioned. I have never had any trouble with overheating or any other problem of that nature. But eventually the clear coat began peeling and chipping in several different places on the hood where major engine components are located and now i am left with huge spots on my hood where the clear coat is missing. The underhhood insulation is in perfect condition. I assume there is a defect in either the clear coat itself or the insulation which prevents the heat from damaging the hood has failed to do so. I do not understand how this could possibly happen. The vehicle is only a 99 model kia sportage. It has only 93,000 miles on it. I have had recent recalls repaired and i am in hopes that this information will help to prove a defect in the hood insulation or the clear coat.

I am the owner of a 99 kia sportage with only 19000 miles on it bought new with only 10 miles on it back in 99. This suv has beennothing but problems from day one, with everything from the ac to the 4 wheel drive needing repaired twice in one day, to the most seriousproblem happening on 8-19-02 when my right rear anti sway bar bracket breaks away from where it was welded on the frame in the factory ( theorg. Welds just broke )as my daughter and i are driving this suv home one evening causingthis suv to be all over the road and uncontrollable.luckily no one was hurt or killed because of this. Kia accepts no responsibilty for this. But it was there welds done in there factory when they made this suv. This is the kind of safe products that kia makesand the public needs to be aware of this fact and how much this co. Values a human life.

Engine check light came on the dashboard more then once. Front brakes were leaking brake fluid.dealership replaced the rotors and brakes pads.

Upon being at a stop engine revved, andvehicle accelerated, landingin an intersection; whichcauseda collision. Consumer's vehicle hit a semi truck. Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy. Due to a previous incident vehicle was in cruise control mode. However, vehicle accelerated, and took off on its own. Consumer had to slam on brakes to stop the vehicle.
1 month after purchasing this vehicle, itbegan to accelerate on its own, and then it stalled.mechanic claimed cheap gas was the cause. Vehicle continues to accelerate on its own. On 08-22 vehicle accelerated through toll plaza and i had a hard time stopping vehicle, once vehicle stopped it stalled and an indicator light came on. Towed to dealerfor repair. 2 days later vehicle accelerated on its own, and the same indicator light came on. Dealer contacted and claims problem with pressure from gas cap.theexplanation provided seems ridiculous based on the number of other consumers with this same problem.problem with accelleration continues and i have not been given any reasonable information as to why. I truly don'tbelieve that we are all usingf the same gas. I don't think that the recall work for recall 99v325000 was performed even though i took the vehicle in for the work and that this is why the accelleration problem still exists. I noticed in the listing of complaints at least 7 consumers that have experienced my problem. This vehicle is not safe and i hope that you will investigate this.

Technician says he can't duplicate it.this jerking occurs several times a week and after the car has warmed up.this is dangerous on the roads in the winter and can cause loss of control of the vehicle.tailgate assembly has been repaired at least two times - it fails to shut properly - which allows exhaust fumes to enter vehicle.the tailgate has to be shut three or more times before finally closing.problem has not been fixed.same problem - not shutting properly - with passenger side rear doors.during the winter, inside of windows stayed "fogged up" preventinga clear view of traffic.defrost failed to clear moisture inside vehicle.dealership said this was normal.

Was going across railroad tracks when vehicle stalled out. There was no prior warning.stalling problem has happened several times before. Took vehicle to dealerandwas informed nothing was wrong with vehicle. Also,would make a thumping noise when accelerator was depressed.

The master window switch failed due to faulty wire harness inside the left front door panel to the windows had melted.

Kia sportage's are worthless,.do not buy one. No safety defct included in summary.

I purchased my kia sportage 4x4 brand new in july of 1999 since i day i drove it off the lot it has been a constant source of stress and frustration.shortly after purchasing it the check engine light would continously come on and then the car would lurch and chug.car was towed back to the dealership and it was kept there for apporoximately 2and a half weeks.it has also had problems where it wouldn't start due to corrosion on the starter clip .this has happened twice.i also had the windshield wipers stop working on the way home from work in a snow storm with my four year old son in the back.it also started making a loud rumbling noise that sounded like i was driving over speed bumps.this led to them needing to replace the hubs, bearings, and axle shafts.car only had approximately 33000 miles on it.at the same time i was told that the front brake pads and rotors were bad and needed to be replaced.this was at a cost of $400.00 to me. I have very strong safety concerns with this vehicle.i do not like having myself or my child in the vehicle for fear of what else is going to happen with it and will we survive to tell about it.
While driving 65mph in rain driver's side windshield wiper stopped. Then, passenger's side windshieldwiper stopped as well. Dealer found driver's side windshield wiper had broken. Replaced both windshield wipers. Onjanuary 10,2001 while snowing,very same thing happened again. Had windshieldwipers replaced again.while drivingtodealer's lotdriver's windshieldwiper arm flew off.the complete 4 wheel drive kit was replaced by the dealer but the 4 wheel drive did not engage resulting in bumping, grinding noise and no traction.the consumer stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive.4 wheel drive was never in working order in vehicle, consumer put vehicle in 4 wheel drive and got stuck. There was a loud grinding sound. Light indicating this option was working had been on. Dealer found 4 wheel drive had not been working in vehicle since purchase. Dealer replaced 4 wheel drive. Now same problem with 4 wheel drive, same grinding sound back.

Fourwheel drive hose replaced. Windsheild replaced. Emissons replaced. Rotors 5 times. Seats front and back 1 time each. Soft top replaced3 times need replaced again.smells like sulfur all the time. Will never buy one again . First i have to pay 3000.00 for a new motorand pay this one off.asked forhelp from kiathey said no.they will not replace motor. I bought extended warrenty . Don't buy it doesn't coverbrakes or rotors or hubs.had headlight switchby motor replacedno headlights they would go off when i put them from high beam to low beam or low to high. The heat shield on my catalytic converter rusted off,the manifold cracked,the muffler rusted through within a year,the widshield wiper transmission broke and was replaced,while the kia sportage is engaged in4wdit pops out into two wheel drive and causes the driver to lose control of the vehicle.this has happened to me numerous times this winter and the recalled parts have now failed again causing kia to put in manual hubs from 1997 into my 1999 suv.i feel this is a danger to all who own a kia sportage and i have contacted a lawyer to look into possible litigation against kia.i have found a recall on a previouse modle from 1998 but the components seals are failing in the replacment parts hubs .thank in advance for your time and letting me inform you of this dangerouse situation...ed geisler.

While driving with my windshieldwipers on in the rain. The driver side windshieldwiper suddenly flew off the window and rested on the rearview mirror. After having the wiper inspected it was caused by a faulty linkage system slowly causing the wiper to screw while in use. Even after screwing the wiper back into place the wiper just laid there after turning the wipers back on.
While using windshield wipersthey will stop operating withoutprior warning.

This is the fourth time this has happen to me.i live on a hill and in the northern n.h.i brought this carbecause i need the four wheel drive and i have not been to in pressed with it so far and i have owned it going on three years.in those three years i have had to get it fixed every snow season and sometimes had it fixed twice in on season. I would like to get this problem fixed once and for all.i no longer have the warrenty on this car.now to get this fixed again will cost me some money.i will never buy this kind of car again.i like the way it handles and all but not happy with the four wheel drive.i would like to get it fixed and have it stay that way through the whole seasons.if you know how that can be done let me know.dt
