The contact owned a 2008 kia spectra. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact applied the brakes while approaching a red light. The engine shut down, and the steering and brakes failed. The vehicle crossed the intersection and crashed into the rear driver side of another vehicle. The brake and steering lights indicators remained illuminated. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The air bags failed to deploy. Two injuries were sustained, which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

The sensor in the passenger seat was found to be defective during a state inspection.i had to replace the seat, which cost me $2,231.93. I was told by the autoshop, and by 2 different kia dealerships that this seems to happen alot in kias.i think that kia should reimburse me for this but don't know how to go about that.i see that they have recalled other models for airbag malfunctions. This model should be looked into as well.

My vehicle began experiencing intermittent issues with the air bag "off" illuminating with a passenger sitting in the front seat.this has happened on a half dozen occasions that i have noticed and goes off when the passenger adjusts their sitting position.the vehicle surges intermittently when stopped.additionally brake pedal has stuck on a few occasions when the engine is cool.the vehicle will also cut out on occasion when driving down the road.i put it in neutral to restart, and continue driving.these all happen intermittently with no apparent rhyme or reason to them.

This vehicle does not consistently sense the front passenger, resulting in the airbag sensor being in the "off" mode even when a passenger is sitting there.the vehicle was checked by a kia dealer, who said the computer did not note anything wrong.the service technician said "with some kia's, the sensor does not detect a passenger in the seat unless they are sitting directly in the middle of the seat."this concerns us greatly, as, if we are in an accident, the passenger air bag will not deploy if the sensor does not register a passenger in the seat.

The air bag light has illuminated on the dash cluster and the light for the passenger side airbags will some times flash on and off like the exorcist.even with a 200 pound adult in the passenger seat.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. The contact was driving 40 mph and crashed into a deer. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained neck and shoulder injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was not repaired or inspected for the cause of the air bag failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Vehicle hit from rear at high rate of speed and pushed into vehicle to drivers side and vehicle in front. Fire dept at scene said the vehicle was impacted where airbag sensor is and should have gone off. No airbags went off. Driver with serious injuries. Children in back seat very minor injuries.

I have a 2008 kia spectra.at 140,000 miles the air bag light came on and has been on since, i am now at 158,000.i have read where the seat needs to be replaced, however i do not have the means to do so. . .updated 07/21/15updated 9/23/2015

The contact rented a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, she crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy with the impact. The contact sustained contusions to the chest, right arm and left arm. There was also internal bleeding from the lungs and an injury to the right leg. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

The passenger detection sensor in the passenger seat would sometimes work on and off while driving, or while they shifted in the seat. The light that says the passenger airbag was off would stay on (meaning the sensor would not detect someone in the seat) and the red error light on the dash would stay on. Now the sensor does not work at all (and has not for the past few years). This was after the warranty expired and asking my mechanic said i should take it to an upholsterer to get it fixed. The issue still has not been fixed due to the estimated cost.

2008 kia spectra ex w/ 38,125 miles on it. The air bag light stays on and after reading all the failure to deploy complaints, 1. I will sue the crap out of you rip offs if my bag does not deploy 2. I will never buy another kia as long as i live.

Airbag light came on when turning on car and stayed on. Was inspected by mechanic. Was told sensor in the passenger seat was broken and seat mat neededto be replaced by kia for $1600. Mileage on car at time of inspection by mechanic was 72,544 and was inspected on 12/19/2015

2008 kia spectra, the parking lights come on by their self when its around 20* outside and when its around 80* outside the alarm want set the lights just blank on and off.also i have a really bad rattle comes from the air bags so it sound in the dash and drivers side post air bag. Have took the car in 3 times and a week per time, and so far nothing as been fixed.

The passenger air bag light will not come on anymore while the air bag light comes on in the dash board. I called my local dealership in naples, fl where i bought the car and asked how much it would be to have it checked. They told me that it would $120 to hook it up to the computer and if anything needed to be replaced, they would include it in the price. I also asked if they had any complaints and they said no and that since it was a "secondary safety system" it did not really need to be replaced. I looked online to see if anyone else had complaints like mine and found almost 100 complaints. Some stating that dealerships were telling them it would be $1200-$1700 to have the entire seat replaced. Also read that one was told that "either the air bag will not go off in an accident, or it would randomly go off going down the road". With the amount of complaints about the same thing, i am surprised there has not been a recall. I refuse to pay that kind of money for something the manufacturer should fix.

Yes so my air bag light when i got the car was off an it just popped up couple weeks ago! i have tried everything possible to try to fix it an still is on. I even brought a new driver seat an it still didn't fix the problem. My be hope has been parked since the air bag light has been on.

The airbag sensor in the passenger seat appears to be failing, similar to other kia models.the light indicating the airbag is off is illuminated when the vehicle is occupied by an adult.

The contact owned a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the steering wheel suddenly pulled to the right and the driver crashed into a pole. Upon impact, the airbags did not deploy. The driver suffered major injuries to his chest and later went to the hospital own his own for treatment. The police were not notified and a report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and they informed the contact that there was nothing wrong with airbags. The vehicle was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and inspected the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 14,800.

My air bag light has been on since i bought the car which was maybe a year ago, i did not know what it meant until i started doing research.i do not feel comfortable knowing my air bags may not work! the car lot failed to tell me anything about this problem. I am very upset and this needs to be fixed by kia or the car dealership.

Takata recall i am checking on my 2008 kia spectra and the air bags.my car has been wrecked 3 times.one of those accidents my daughter slid off the road in a snow storm and hit a tree.with all three accidents the air bags never went off.was just concerned.i see no recalls on the air bags.i've attached pictures of the accident.

The airbag light stays on, now we are being charged over $1000 to get it fixed. Is this a recall item? please reply.

I was proceeding straight through a traffic light when a passenger truck turned illegally in front of me from the oncoming traffic.i was going approximately 40 mph.the airbag did not deploy as would think it should at that speed.fortunately, my seat belt prevented me from getting a more serious injury.i did receive a severe bruise that took months to disappear and aggravated an existing back condition.perhaps it is just as well or better that the airbag did not deploy since the airbag may have given me a more serious injury.fortunately, i had no passenger and the other person in the truck did not get hurt.my car was totaled.i am thankful to godthat i am alive today....updated 12/10/15

My car kia light on failure air bag

Dashboard airbag light illuminated, and nothing i tried--scanner, calling the dealer, and inspecting it myself--seems to be addressing the issue. I see multiple people are experiencing simpler symptoms. The light illuminates as usual upon ignition and shuts off as normal. It then comes back on around 10 to 20 seconds after the car starts, and it does not shut off until i turn off the car. The it sounds like a warranty issue.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated that when a passenger moved a certain way in the front passenger seat, the air bag warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning remained illuminated without a passenger in the seat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor under the passenger seat had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed by the dealer that the passenger seat and air bag sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

Passenger air bag light shows "off' with a passenger sitting in the seat. My wife is 5 ft. Even, and weighs over 135 lbs. But the light will not turn off for her. I tried it (i weigh around 200) and it went off. The dealer where i purchased the car went out of business.

The air bag warning light on passenger front seat side has not been working properly.air bag light does not turn on when occupant in seat.now no light working at all. Just recently the air bag warning light on driver side came on.i took to kia dealership and they said my air bags have turned themselves off because the occupant sensor pad is bad in passenger side.they told me it would be over $2000 to repair because they have to replace the entire front seat pad.they said it was not covered under warranty.i am driving a car with no airbags and can't afford to get new seat replaced.i looked at the internet and there are hundreds of complaints of this same problem. Why have they not been recalled?

Air bag warning light stays on. Tire kingdom checked it and said it is the suspension air bag. Cost would be2,700 dollars.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated that the front passengers side air bag light illuminated sporadically even when the passenger seat was occupied. '08 kia spectra hit across right front & slammed in right quarter panel. Vehicle equipped with 6 air bags...non of which deployed. Wife suffered fractures to all her ribs & sternum and a broken left arm. Nine days in shock trauma in baltimore, two weeks in rehab hospital and now getting rehab help at home.

The vehicle was not repaired due to part unavailability. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra.the contact stated that the air bag indicator does not dim when the front passenger seat is occupied.the dealer stated that the manufacturer should be sending a re-caliper switch to repair the air bag indicator.two weeks later, no one has called the contact regarding the repair.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on numerous occasions, but the failure still persists.the failure mileage was 500.updated 12/15/08.*ljupdated 12/15/08.

My son has a 2008 kia spectra and i have a 2009 kia spectra. Both cars have difficulty turning on the front passenger air bag when the car is/has been cold and my wife sits in the front passenger seat. She weighs approx 105 pounds and when the cars have been sitting in the cold, the sensors in the seat do not register that she's there. Consequently the passenger air bag is automatically turned off and would not deploy if we were in an accident. I have spoken with the kia dealer about it and they say that if functions normally. But it doesn't. If the weather's warm, neither car seems to have the problem as often.

I actually own 2 kias same year and model. Air bag light would come on and off when someone would sit in passenger seat. Then it started staying on all the time on so it was still under warranty so they replaced the sensor. Now my husbands kia is doing the same exact thing and it is out of warranty so they refuse to fix it without charging me, so i have to ride with him at my own risk because i have no air bag protection on my side.

The air bag light has illuminated on the dash cluster and the light for the passenger side airbags will some times come on and at other times will not, with a 200 pound adult in the passenger seat. I called kia dealership and was told it would be $100 to check the code. The code indicates b1448 ocs failure - mat sensor. Dealership said there is only a five year 60,000 mile warranty on these parts. Problem is you can not replace just the part, you have to buy the complete seat bottom at a cost of $800 - $2,000 depending on the dealership that you speak with. This is a large cost to replace every 3 - 6 years (depending on age and mileage). Kia and hyundai have had recalls before for the same air bag systems in other vehicles but refuse to recall the part in the spectra.

I started to have issues with my seat belt's and i called the dealer and took it in and they said they couldn't find an issue i continue to have problem's took it back several time's and they said the same thing now my seat belt's in the back of my car do not work at all i took it back and they said it was out of warranty that i would have to pay for it. Then after that i started having an issue with my passenger side seat and air bag the light on the dash next to the clock wouldn'tgo off or it just flickered and the air bag icon with the person on it came on and hasn't went off i told them about this issue as well and the said they couldn't find a problem but now that the light next to the clock has gone out and the person icon with the air bag on my dash just stay's on i took it to them and they said i would have to buy a passenger seat for $1,900.00 because my warranty for that part was up. I feel that they should fix these issues because they are a safety issue and i transport small children in my car.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra.the contact stated that the front passenger side air bag light illuminated when the seat was occupied. The contact mentioned that the passenger side air bag light illuminated intermittently depending on the position the passenger was sitting. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the seat cushion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.

I own a 2008 kia spectra and have had air bag system issues with the passenger side ocs mat. About a year ago,i had the seat replaced due to the fact that you can not change out the mat itself. This cleared up the issue and the air bag system worked fine. For a while. Now the air bag light is on again with an adult male sitting in the seat it says that the air bags are disabled. If you push on the seat towards the front of the seat bottom while sitting in the seat, the light goes off and the system is active. When you stop pushing on the seam the system deactivates. I spoke with kia dealership parts department and they said that this is a common issue but they will not recall the item. You have to purchase a new seat bottom from them at a cost of $1397.45 parts only. The parts are only covered under a 1 year warranty. If this is a common issue( according to kia dealership ) why has there not been a recall on this vehicle and all others that have the defective ocs mat? they seem to be making a lot of money for a part that they know and have confirmed as being defective at the cost and safety of the consumer?

The air bag light came on and the dealer saiid if would cost a $100 to tell you what was wrong.

The contact owned a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated that while traveling in rainy weather, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole. The front driver frontal and side curtain air bags failed to deploy.the driver sustained severe injuries from the impact and was killed.the failure and the current mileage was 41,000.updated 04/23/12updated 05/08/12*ljspoke with consumer, there was one death and no injuries. Updated 05/151/2

The sensor light turned on and disabled airbags. We took it to the all star kia in baton rouge off of siegen lane.they told us it would be 1549. To fix it. I contacted corporate office spoke to [xxx] , he told me he would send the case to regional office since i wanted them to pay for it.three days later [xxx]called me and said they would pay for half of the cost, we declined he said he would then send it to the regional office. I reminded him he had said that three days ago.finally i reach a [xxx] in regional who was not very pleasant and she said it was no longer under warranty, so they could not pay for it.i told her i would not let this go. Today 4-13-15 she called and left a message on my phone saying that the dealer would pay half of the cost and that i had 30 days to accept.i feel like this should of been a recall since there are so many consumers with this same problem same model car.they recalled 146,000 thousand other cars different models and years for the same thing.just want them to be honest and do the right thing.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Airbag mat sensor failed.seems to be very common unfortunately. No accident or injury as of yet.

The contact owned a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated while a passenger in the vehicle travelling at 45 mph, the vehicle was hit on the passenger side by another vehicle as a result the passenger and driver side air bags as well as the passenger side air bags failed to deploy. The passenger and the driver of her vehicle sustained back, head and arm injures while the driver sustained neck and back injuries that required medical attention. The contact stated that the occupants of the other vehicle sustained no injuries. A police report was filed. The car was drivable as the air bags failed deploy however, the vehicle was deemed a total loss. The approximate failure mileage 185,000. The vin was not available.*dt*dt*dt

Air bag light (red warning light) started to stay on constantly. This means that air bag will probably not deploy in case of crash (to best of my knowledge when searching on google about this issue). Before this light turned on (red light on air-bag), i experienced an issue with "passenger air-bag off" light staying on - despite someone is present on passenger seat (meaning that air-bag will not deploy as computer is not sensing anybody seating there).i would need to stop-by on road side, then turn vehicle off completely, asked a person on passenger seat to go out - wait fora while - and then restart the vehicle and request a person to get back on seat.later on, this way no longer working. Computer reset no longer working.friends warned me that - it is sign of air-bag system failure and kia should get it fixed (it comes under safety). This issue is constant irrespective if vehicle is stationary or in motion.

Airbag sensor in passenger seat has malfunctioned for the second time and passenger side airbag not on light has come on again. According to my mechanic, kia does not sell just the sensor and the entire passenger seat assembly must be replaced again. Kia has no recall for the defective passenger seat/sensor combination for this particular model although it does for other models of the same year and problem. Kia should have an airbag seat/sensor recall....updated 07/13/16

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. While driving approximately 35 mph, a second vehicle crashed into the front driver side of the contact's vehicle. During the crash, the air bags deployed, but the driver suffered first degree burns on both arms and right hand from chemicals used in the air bags. The front passenger also suffered an injured right hand and shoulder from the air bag deployment. A police report was not filed and medical attention was received. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 35,000.

My airbag light is staying on when occupied. I'm at almost 60,000 mls. Thought i saw something about a recall sometime ago so l was surprised that i couldn't find any considering the complaints l've been seeing. I don't have to many passengers as my children were alwaysin back and just started riding in front. So i'm not sure how long it could have been going on. Just wanted to let someone know another 08' s light is lit. Thanks for your time.

The passenger airbag sensor started failing when i purchased the car in 2017 and has since completely failed, which has caused the airbag light to turn on. The kia dealership wants to charge $140 to run an airbag diagnostic and from what i have researched, i will have to replace the entire seat, which may cost more than the value of the car. My concern at this point is whether or not any of the airbags will be deployed in the event of a collision.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated that the passenger air bag light illuminated with the passenger seat unoccupied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on numerous occasions and they could not duplicate the failure. The air bag light continued to illuminate but the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was contacted and a claim was filed but no further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 32,000.

Driver side air bag light is on

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra.ever since the vehicle was purchased, the air bag indicator remains illuminated when an occupant is seated in the passenger seat.the dealer tested the air bag sensor by placing a 200 lbs. Mechanic in the seat.the indicator dimmed; therefore, the dealer stated that the air bag was fine.while driving 70 mph on the interstate, the contact swerved to avoid a deer and crashed into a tree.the air bags failed to deploy.the seat belt tensioner failed when the crash occurred. Kia replaced the air bag computer, sensor, and seat belt.the contact suffered a concussion and a police report was filed.the components in the vehicle were labeled as defective and after all the repairs were made, the air bag indicator continued to illuminate inappropriately.recently, the contact attempted to avoid a deer and another crash occurred.the air bags failed to deploy again.the vehicle has not yet been repaired and is currently at an auto body shop waiting to be appraised.the failure and current mileages were 10,000.

On our 2008 kia spectra the air bag indicator light never goes off when the passenger seat is occupied.i am concerned that this means the bag will not deploy if there is an accident.it has been this way since purchased in may of 2008.

When my son, who is 12 years old sits in the front passenger seat (weighs 103 pounds) the light goes off sometimes or stays on sometimes for the airbag system, but when my fiancee who is in excess of 180 pounds sits in the seat, the airbag light stays on, thus would not deploy in case of an accident. This happens sporadically, not constantly.

2008 kia spectra, purchased new jan 2008, 20k miles, passenger air bag light only goes off (active) when a person of around 200 lbs sits in it.my grandchildren, some of which are 120 or more lbs, do not set it off.i have been making them sit in the back seat, but after reading the crash complaints, where air bags never went off, i am very concerned about their safety as well as my own.i do not care to be involved in an accident to see if they will work!not acceptable, especially in a small car.

When my wife sits in the passenger seat, the air bag activation system does not activate approximately 50% of the time.this is a serious safety issue since she would have no air bag deployment in the event of an accident.there should be some way for me to activate the system when she is a passenger.

On january 4th2010 at 4:30am another driver pushed me off the road. And my 2008 kia spectra flew up a hill hit two trees at full speed then with full force hit a telephone pole. When my car hit the little hill only my drivers air bag deployed how ever i was still going about 49 mph.during this time of hitting trees some how my seat belt came out of the locking mechanism. After my stay in the hospital i went to see the car and none and i mean none of my side air bag had gone off when they should have. The back of my car went around a telephone pole and the rear air bags did not go off. The air bags in my seat did not go off i have permanent short term memory loss. All and all these kiaspectra''s and all kia's should not be allowed on the road in 2008 i was in a car wreck at my fault at 40 mph and my drivers air bag did not go off and my seat belt did not lock up.

All four(4) side airbags failed to deploy in auto incident involving 2008 model kia spectra.

Intentionally t-boned and side impact airbags didn't deploy.now my airbag light is on.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. While traveling at 20 mph the contact noticed black smoke coming inside the vehicle from the air ventilation system. She pulled over to the side of the road and shut the engine off. A loud clicking sound could be heard coming from the engine. After examining the front end of the vehicle and finding no signs of a fire or smoke the contact re entered the vehicle and noticedthat flames were coming outfrom under the dashboard and steering wheel. The fire department was called to extinguish the fire and a fire report was filed for the incident. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileages were 91,000.

I drive a 2008 kia spectra. I've owned the car for roughly 4 yrs. Within the last month my car continues to stall. This occurs generally when i'm coming to a stop and turning. The dash lights will all come on and my wheel locks up in the direction i was turning. When i turn my car off and turn it back on, the lights will turn off, but my rpm's rev up to a minimum of 3. I have taken the vehicle to two auto mechanics. They have changed a fuel temp. Sensor and switched out all my spark plugs. Both mechanics have plugged the vehicle up to the machine and it reads clear. They cannot find an issue with the vehicle. Since the vehicle acts up randomly, they are unable to identify the problem when it's in their possession.

The car randomly starts. When the car is finally started sometimes the power steering goes out, the windows randomly roll down, the locks randomly lock and unlock themselves. I have taken the car to several mechanic shops including electrical specialist and the dealership. None of them are able to determine what the problem is.

I was driving normally going 45 mph on a rural street using my cruise control.when i was coming up to the stop, i hit the brakes to slow down, and the engine immediately accelerated.i slammed on the brakes and the engine ran faster.i put the car in neutral (the engine rpms red-lined), and turned the key off and the vehicle slowed under normal braking.i started the vehicle back up, and tested the problem.the cruise control was not disengaging with the brake pedal.when i got home, i checked the brake lights, and they were not working.i bought a replacement switch and thebrake lights work with the replacement switch. If i had not applied the brakes far enough in advance, i am certain that i would have gone through the busy intersection and caused a major accident.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. While driving at various speeds, the cruise control failed to engage and the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed. The failures recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the stop lamp switch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was temporarily repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v114000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 102,000. Updated 05/24/16*lj

I bought my 2008 kia spectra in june of 2015. About a month after the purchase my door locks started acting up occasionally. Now it is an almost everytime occurance. I will unlock my door via key fob, and it will instantly, and automatically, relock itself(all doors). When it does decide to unlock, and stay that way until i enter the vehicle, as soon as i open the drivers door all doors wil lock. I find this quite annoying, and dangerous due to the fact that i have a child, and a wife, and i would rather not have my vehicle prevent them from entering, or exiting the vehicle safetly. I have been in touch with kia dealers and have been told that it will be a 300-750 dollar fix, and kia motors themselves stated that some spectra's have this issue, but mine does not because there is no service campaign for my vin.

The door locks began randomly not working when using the door lock/unlock buttons on both the driver side, as well as the front passenger side. There does not seem to be a problem when using the key fob. I mentioned this problem to my local kia dealer who brushed it off. Now, 2 years later, it has gotten worse. I can rarely unlock the doors using the buttons. I would think this is a safety issue if i was unable to get out of my car in the event of an accident or fire. I am not sure if this would be covered under warranty. The car is less than 10 years old and has just under 73,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off while driving 40 miles per hour. The vehicle has been repaired several times but the failure continued to occur. The dealer offered the contact a new vehicle instead of repairing the one he owns; however, the newer models experienced the identical failure. The failure mileage was 3000. The current mileage was 40,126.

The contact owned a 2008 kia spectra. While driving at approximately 40 mph, there was an abnormal noise and suddenly there was smoke inside of the vehicle. The contact veered to the side of the road and the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. A fire and a police report were filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,500.according to the letter from the consumer's lawyer, the vehicle was destroyed by an electrical fire arising under the dashboard, apparently from the blower/ventilation system. Updated 09/14/15. Ma 10/5status updated 11/19/15.the consumer stated the manufacturer denied any liability. They blamed the fire on a past incident, where the vehicle was filled with too much oil. No indication of any problems with car or battery noticed whatsoever upon entering and starting the vehicle..the complaintincidence occurred after driving approx 2 blocks and parking and turning off car and upon getting out of car noticed smoke coming from front driver side corner of hood.since there was a baby in the car first action was to remove child to safe area and called 911.within approx 5 minutes massive amounts of smoke pouring from hood cracks.bystanders attempted to open hood and spray with borrowed fire extinguisher but could not open hood.when firetruck arrived they could not get hood open either and had to pry it open at which point flames erupted but were then quickly put out by fire department (goldsboro nc car fire at tj maxx store on sept 28, 2009)fire determined to have started in battery/fuse box area - fire department determined fire was electricalbut cause could not be determined due to extreme amount of damage resulting from fireit appears that there was some kind of electrical malfunction that occurred suddenly and without any advance warning or signs of any problems before this incidence.nothing was possible to be done to "correct" the problem except to extinguish the fire. The consequence was that the entire front end of the car was charred and the car totaled.the fire department arranged to have car towed from parking lot where fire occurred to lot where final inspection made.luckily, circumstances allowed for almost immediate awareness of fire occurring and that driver and passenger were in a safe place with communication available.if circumstances had been different, the results could have been disastrous.

Takata recallwas running the paper route for the telegraph and a deer ran out in front of my vehicle insurance said loss cause but air bags never went off and some how ended up in salvage...

I was driving to work on 7 march 2020. As soon as i turn to park in the parking lot of my job, the car turned off. I try to crank it on 3 times it wouldn't let me. So i went in to work, thank god i made it to the parking lot at least. After running to auxine to see what's wrong with it (they were no help) i made few calls between friends and car companies. Turned out it was the timing belt that snapped and it's because it wasn't change for a long time and i only had the car for 3 years. So with the timing belt messing up, it mess up the engine also. I am now with no car juggling between rides and taxis to take to work. I really love my kia and i am so sad this happened. I don't even know what to do. This happened at zaxbys parking lot (where i work at) in wilson, nc.

Vehicle surges while driving and/or while stopped in traffic.

Will randomly stall. Been to the mechanic several times and we can't find the problem. Doesn't matter if your going down the road or just idling in the yard stalls out.

On 9/19/2016 i was driving on the 91 freeway about 40 miles from home, my car made a loud noise and shut off, i was in the left (fast lane) and lost all power, i put on the hazard lights and honked the horn as i steered the car toward the right side of the freeway crossing several lanes, luckily i made it without having an accident, i called for the nearest tow company to come and tow my car home. When i got home i opened the hood and seen the crankshaft came through the plastic...

My car is revving, even in park. If it occurs while driving, the brakes are hard to push as well.

Intermittingly, after starting the vehicle, engine begins revving.intermittingly, while slowing & stopping at a traffic light, engine begins revving and attempts to lurch forward. I have to press the break very hard to keep vehicle from moving forward.fred anderson kia, raleigh, nc investigated this problem on 7/10/15 but was unable to recreate the problem.they re-cleaned the throttle body.the issue has continued on and off since then.on 8/20/15, after approximately 45 minutes of highway driving, i pulled into the parking lot at work.i put the car into reverse to back into a parking spot & the engine started revving dramatically & the car jerked noticeably as it went into gear.i backed into the spot & put the car in park, again jerking.i let the car idle for a few minutes & moved it in & out of gear.the revving worsened, the car attempted to lurch forward even with both the break & emergency break & continued jerking with every gear change. I have an appt. On 8/21/15 with fred anderson kia to investigate. My concern is the safety of the vehicle, as i have seen an indication of the same problem with other kia vehicles on this site & other sites.it seems as if kia is not resolving the issue and i don't want to have an accident because of it.

I paid cash for a kia 08/09,the engine light came on when it was drop off by the dealership.i call right back i was told to bring it in. This continue 3 times after, the crank shaft went out,the fuel sensor was the 4 time with me 1 time with the other owner. She put 3500mi. On the car fact. My title said, 200 mi. Then, the gas peddle was so hot i could not keep my foot on it. I was call by kia, park the car or it will blow up on you. I was on the road next to a cane field no houses close to me. I'm 65 yrs. Old, been going for over 38 mo. Because the dealer was louisiana new car commissioner(1) he keeping me at bay. This car was on it way back to kia manfacture. But was sold to me because i paid cash. They they tried to buy back the car from a loan co. Where i took a loan on it. They laugh at me tell me i'm on my own. I still have the warranty on it. Could you help me. This was a new car i was sold even though some one else had it before me for months 3500mi. Yet on my title it said 200mi.

The vehicle was able to be restarted and was taken back to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. Immediately after leaving the dealership for the second time the failure recurred while driving approximately 35 mph. The driver was able to merge to the side of the highway and restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnose that the mass air sensor flow filter and spark plugs needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact has experienced surging in the vehicle when coming to a complete stop. After the surging, the rpm's would race to high numbers. The car randomly starts. When the car is finally started sometimes the power steering goes out, the windows randomly roll down, the locks randomly lock and unlock themselves. I have taken the car to several mechanic shops including electrical specialist and the dealership. None of them are able to determine what the problem is.

Parking lights sometimes turn on several minutes after removing keys and exiting car, this car has automatic headlights, the switch can be turned off if desired, unlike daytime running lights that are on all the time. We have 2 identical cars and both have the same issue. Dealer checked car out and told us there are no other reports and that we are opening the car door before turning the ignition off and causing the problem. Even though i was sure that was not the case, we took the advice and did as we were instructed. Within a few weeks the problem returned, this time not caught for 15 hours, running the battery down. Dealer has no solution and told us that most people turn the switch off anyway, but this defeats the purpose of automatic headlights. The problem happened 3 times with each car before we left the switch off, neither of us use the lights during the day any longer because of the problem.

When the auto switch for the lights is on sometimes the parking lights will not turn off when the car is turned off and the keys removed.we often have to get back in the car, insert/remove the key, then open/close the door to get the lights to go off.once, during the day we failed to notice the light on and the battery was completely drained.

The right-side passenger brakes lights are not working. All bulbs are good.my cruise control has been working intermittently. As i'm unable to view my brake lights while driving, i'm going to assume that these two problems are occurring at the same time. I believe it is due to a defective brake switch. I tested the cruise control by trying to engage it while driving at 40 mph. It did not engage. When checking the brakes with the car parked in the driveway - they worked intermittently. All wires are in good shape and free from corrosion.i also have a problem with the passenger airbag sensor and reported this to your organization. At the time i reported it there had not been enough complaints for the spectra, specifically, to receive any help. The problem did exist in high numbers in other kia models of the same year -2008. Recently, i received notice that the air bag sensor defect has now been recognized and i can have this repair made at the dealership at kia's expense. I think it is prudent to report this apparent brake switch defect as i notice recalls on other kia models of the same year as mine - 2008 for brake switch defect.

Kia vehicles, fuel system failure, mfg blames government for this, it is due totank over fill, when fuel is up into fill neck it puts to much fuel in tank and inturn flooding some fuel canister of the system and this causes the vehicle to die, a severe design flaw, i have had three stall outs, the third almost caused a major accident i was pulling into heavy flow of fast moving traffic when the car up and died, mfg says nothing can be done to correct from a mechanical stand point cause it meets gov-specs, customer must not allow the tank to be over filled.

1. The check light on kia spectra 2008 remained on startup.2. Took the car to don beyer kia in falls church, va. They ordered a part 31435-1ea00 sensor - fuel and installed it.3. Now cannot put fuel in gas tank.

This has happened twice. The first time was on 12/29/08.the car would not start when my wife tried to back it out of the garage.the mechanics eventually determined that we must have overfilled the gas tank.today -- 9/4/12 -- it happened again.i forgot about the problem we had in 08 and mistakenly filled up the gas tank.for the last 30 miles i've driven it, it has stalled out at least six times and frequently shuddered.i'm very concerned that it won't start tomorrow morning.

Trunk latch will not release without the key (from the interior button or the remote). Every time the weather gets below freezing the trunk release brakes again.

Randomly while driving at highway speeds (55 - 70) the car will downshift violently with a sudden jerk, it will remain in that gear until you pullover, turn off the car and restart it in order to resume normal driving.

When going down the interstate, it feels like i hit something (i did not). My speed decrease so much that it turned off my cruise control. Glad no-one was behind me. It started feeling very slugish with high rpms. I stopped for about 20 minutes. Restarted my engine light came on, and it would not shift out of 3rd gear. I stopped again this time for over an hour. Started my car and drove another 15 miles. It shift fine. Chwck emfine light was still on. Next, morning started my car and drove. I had no problems. 4 days late, driving my car 38 miles and had the same problem. This time with the same issue, take off is very very slow. This is not a constant problem. I never know when the problem will start.

My car has approx 145000 miles.drives great except for in the last few months it has a transmission problem. I googled the problem and numerous people have the exact same problem. After driving the car after sitting all night for about an hour you can be driving 5 mph or 60 mph the car will jerk hard...from the transmission. I have had the car inspected and fixed numerous times. Mechanic's say the transmission is in good condition. They have fixed numerous items on 3 different times with the transmission; flushed, welded, etc .mechanic said that after googling problem that may be a computer download that is needed.as stated above numerous people have same problem with 2007 thru 2011 kia

I test drove the vehicle and it drove fine. After i signed papers to buy the vehicle, i drove it home. On the way home i was doing the speed limit which is 65mph but i always stay a little under that speed limit. I got to about 65 and boom it was like the transmission had come through the floor and it felt as if i was going to be ejected from the car! that scared me to death!!! after that it started dragging so i had to exit the highway and drive the city streets with my emergency flashers on because i could do no more than 35-40 mph. I got the car nov 2016 and this happens everytime i drive it.its doing the same thing just sitting in a drive through. It kicks back so hard it hurts my neck. It feels like someone hits me from the back everytime.i would really y like to know where i can have this repair taken care of because this is very dangerous. I have read a lot of reviews online and a lot of people have the same issue. It's been doing it since day one and i need it fixed because it hurts really bad. I didn't do this to the vehicle. It happens no matter what speed you're doing and then acts like it's stuck in high gear and takes off slowly after it jerks.

I was driving my car, march 2013 and the car died while pulling into the driveway. I was at a red light in may 2014 and the car died at the stop light.for those two incidents the kia dealership indicated an issue with the charcoal canister.now, i have a third incident that occurred april 25, 2015, i was driving approximately 40 miles per hour and the wheels locked up and the car died while driving on a main street. My vehicle has been at the dealership for 3 business days and they are not able to determine why the car is stopping.this is a safety issue for me.these incidents could have happened on the freeway and could have caused a fatality.the kia dealership has been diligently trying to diagnose the issue however; they have been unable to determine the root cause.i am sharing this information just in case other drivers are experiencing this issue.

The metal covering on the interior door pulls is peeling off. This jagged metal cut my finger. There are other reports of injury from this on line also.further, the driver side door will not open with the interior door pull if the door is locked.

The clear coat is coming off.

While driving hwy at 70 miles, when i increase to 75/80 the car violently downshifts. I am afraid to drive on the highway now because of it. I thought i ran over something but no, it did it againwith my 83 year old mother in passenger seat. We were both shook up over it. Now, i do go past 50 because i don't feel safe and it's only 8 years old.

Will randomly stall. Been to the mechanic several times and we can't find the problem. Doesn't matter if your going down the road or just idling in the yard stalls out.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated that after having the oil changed, the vehicle stalled without any warning. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 4,200. The current mileage was approximately 7,700.

Cruise control won't set.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated the vehicle failed to stop after the brake pedal was applied and instead the vehicle suddendly accelerated crashing into a building. The air bags failed to deploy and the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel.a police report was not filed.the driver sustained a neck injury. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor was it diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted.the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage 95,000.

La caja de velocidades a veces golpea en autopista cuando cambia haca primera no lo hace siempre pero golpea fuerte

Vehicle surges while driving and/or while stopped in traffic.

Speedometer keeps going out.it will work first thing in the morning, but mid day it drops to zero

My car is revving, even in park. If it occurs while driving, the brakes are hard to push as well.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra.the contact stated that the vehicle would lung forward and accelerate, accompanied by an abnormal increase in engine rpms. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure.the manufacturer was contacted via email, but the contact received no response.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 51,000.

The contact owns a 2008 kia spectra. The contact stated when engaging the interior heat, the defroster would automatically engage and cause the vehicle to stall. The dealer advised the compressor had failed an any repairs would be at the contacts expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current was unknown.
