Passenger side ocs sensor failing.
Owner of the 2007 kia spectra brought the car to me to have to looked at due to the airbag light being on. Upon scanning the computer in the car the srs system coded b1448 which is the passenger side ocs mat sensor failing. This part should be under a recall due to safety issues for the passenger riding in the car
I no longer have the car, so i cannot provide the vin number at this time. (i can get it, with some work involved). I have pictures of the car after the crash. I live in rural iowa. Deer start their rut in october. I swerved to miss a deer, on a two lane road. Went down a 40 foot ditch, nose first. Because the bottom of the ditch was a gully, the front of the roof, the hood, the front lights, etc. Were all destroyed.not one of their airbags deployed. They are not a part of the news round of airbags, but i want this on record. Again, i can supply pictures, and it will be obvious that at least one of the 8 airbags should have deployed. Please, look into the 2007 kia spectra's air bags. Look to see if others have had the same problem. I would appreciate it very much.i am not looking for money, i bought the car for my daughter (when she was six, with the ten year warranty, i intended to pass it on to her, when she got her license..... Boy am i glad i was involved in the crash, and not her, seeing is how that is the exact reason why i decided to buy the kia.
2007 kia spectra. Consumer states airbags did not deploy during collision *tgwthe consumer stated he was driving 15 mph and was rear ended by another vehicle, who was traveling at 70 mph. The consumer stated his vehicle was equipped with front and side air bags and none of them deployed.
Because of a defect in the seats the airbags do not operate. The dealership said the seats would need to be replaced at a cost of $1400 per seat.
Backing out of a parking spot at apartment complex and passenger side air bag went off and shattered the front windshield
Front passenger seat air bag sensor is defective. Weight sensor on dash will not work and the air bag symbol is turned on the dash.
I bought the car at 50k miles and started having issues. Seal for windshield popping out, airbag light on passenger side stays on constantly transmission jerking, and doors auto locking in park position. Ball joints no good and had to pay put of pocket.refused to cover warranty because i didn't buy the car new.have to call locksmith to get keys out, cause i refuse to brake windows, that also are misaligned on drivers sd causing it to not close fully.shame they can't warranty their car yet only convenient cover only buyer...smhrefused
I was traveling on the highway and fell asleep behind the wheel. I was told that during the time of me falling asleep i was traveling around 90 miles and hour. I suddenly woke up to a sign saying to get over to the next lane due to a sweeper truck cleaning the highway. I remember slowing down all of a sudden and hearing my tires making a loud noise. According to the police report i hit the drivers side fender and my car began spinning around to only be cut of my car with the jaws of life, then being life flighted to the nearest hospital. None of my airbags deployed in the vehicle. My steering wheel ended up sitting on my armrest and my dashboard ended shifting forward towards me with the left side of my dashboard completely falling on my leg. I wanted to share my info with someone so kia can check into these faulty issues.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. While attempting to start the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the passenger side seat cushion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000. The vin was unavailable.
Our vehicle failed inspection due to the air bag light being on. When diagnosed, code b1448 was found, indicating that the occupancy sensor, part of the seat sensor mat (on the bottom of the seat), was faulty. We are concerned both about the safety of driving our car, and the high cost of repair. It seems that this is a widespread problem, and we believe that kia should recall the part.
I hit water on the highway causing my car to leave the road. I slid into several trees and completely caved in the driver side door and back fender. Not one air bag deployed at time of impact or after (it has front and side air bags). Luckily i was strapped in with the seat belt and held on for dear life to the steering wheel. Or i would have possibly gotten thrown through the front or side widows. I suffered a torn bicep tendon, whip lash, back pain and trauma to my legs. I will never trust buying a kia again.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the passenger seat pressure sensor for the air bag remained illuminated, even when the passenger seat was unoccupied. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 125,000.
1.two passengers (female 64 yr driver and female 13 yr old passenger) were proceeding down a residential road in a 2007 kia spectra at less than 20 mph. Halfway down the road, driver began to lightly apply the brake knowing that the stop sign was further down the road.at this moment the car revved and experienced sudden acceleration.the driver shouted out that something was wrong with the car. The driver attempted to stop the car but the brakes failed.the car accelerated to approximately 60 mph.unable to stop, the car went through the stop sign and proceeded across the street towards a guard rail.driver instinctively turned the wheel to the left so that the car would not hit the guard rail head on.the vehicle collided with the guard rail on the passenger side, throwing the driver into the passenger seat, where the other passenger was sitting.the driver hit her head hard on the passenger window and experienced other injuries as a result of being thrown from the driver seat.the air bags in the car failed to deploy.the car bounced off the guard rail and proceeded at full speed across the street again.the car ran over some small hedges in a resident's yard and proceeded up a steep hill before coming to a stop.the passenger of the car immediately dialed 911 and the police/ambulance arrived shortly after.2. The car's electronic throttle is believed to be defective.this defect results in random episodes of sudden acceleration when the brakes are applied.because the episodes are random, the problem is not easily duplicated.however, there are numerous documented cases of sudden acceleration in kia vehicles on the internet. 3.vehicle was towed to a mechanic for investigation.mechanic attempted a diagnostic test, but mechanic reported that the 2007 kia spectra is not sophisticated enough to apply such a test.vehicle was then taken to the local kia dealership for further examination. Kia claims they are unable to duplicate the problem.
My daughter was critically injured in a rollover accident with my 2007 kia spectra. I purchased this vehicle because of the "safety" ratings and felt she would be well protected in an accident. This vehicle was equipped with side curtain airbags as well as dash airbags. None of the airbags deployed in this accident. In reading the information packet that came with the vehicle i understand the front airbags are not designed to deploy in a rollover, however i believe the side airbags should have according to the information provided. Others i have spoken with (mechanics, attorneys etc) agree. This vehicle was 8 months old and had only 8000 miles on it. It was a "total loss":
2007 kia spectra has a problem with the air bag and sensor on the passenger's side.*njthe consumer stated the passenger side air bag light would not go out when the seat was occupied. The consumer stated after 4 months of complaining and finally calling corporate, the air bag sensor was replaced. In september 2008, the problem resurfaced again. The air bag module needed to be replaced. In dec 2008, the problem with the air bag resurfaced again. The front end of the vehicle began to make noises. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. Upon diagnosis, the sway bar links were faulty, the wheel bearing had to be replaced and the speaker in the front door had blown. The cruise control worked sporadically.
We bought this car brand new.from day one the front air bag will turn off when i sit in the passenger seat.i am well above the weight minimum at around 140 lbs. And am 5'2".the only way that i can keep the airbag on is to roll up a towel and put that in center of seat when i sit.this is very uncomfortable though.i complained and complained to the dealer.i even offered to have them see how i was sitting as they kept saying it was something that i was doing.but never would fix it.i don't want this to happen when a passenger is in the seat if we were to have an accident.bought the car for the safety features and this one doesn't even work.kia should be made to fix this!
The 2007 kia spectra was in motion on the highway and was in an accident with major impact. The airbag did not deploy. The kia hit another car and had major damages.
I have always had a problem with the passenger side airbag light, no matter the weight of the person it sometimes says its off.have taken it to dealer and they have no solution, they cannot even diagnose it because there is no error code stored. This is supposed to be a safe car and it scares me to even drive with a passenger.need to have a recall.
The passenger air bag light on the dash is on. Took to mechanic and they said sensors in seat are bad and would cost $1400 for new seat. I feel this should be covered under warranty as this should not go bad car only has a 85000 miles on it.this means that the passenger airbag wont work in case of accident.
The contact rented a 2007 kia spectra.the contact stated that the front and rear passenger side air bags deployed without warning when the key was placed in the ignition.the driver suffered hearing loss in the left ear, whiplash in the neck, and a cut on the arm.the rear passenger was a nine year old child who suffered head injuries.the vin, engine size, number of cylinders, and purchase date were unavailable.the current and failure mileages were 29,000.
Airbags; frontal; sensor/control module:passenger airbag seat sensor malfunction.the center console passenger seat airbag (yellow occupancy) on/off light would illuminate interment when passenger sat in passenger seat regardless of speed or motion, i.e., shortly after engine startup through shutdown (should have been no light illuminated with passenger in seat).the problem started mid july 2012 and continued intermittently over the next 6 months until the red airbag inoperative light (in the speedometer cluster) came on and remained illuminated in late dec 2012.aprox weight of three passengers who frequented the passenger seat over the 6 month period) were 135, 150 and 215 lbs respectively.passenger (seat) airbag sensor malfunction was confirmed (diagnosed and isolated) by holmes automotive of fort walton beach fl, on 24 dec 2012.believe identical problem as nhtsa campaign id nbr 12v244000.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated thatthe patch of ice on the road caused her to crash into the guard rail while driving65 mph. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was completely destroyed. She sustained injuries to her head when she hit it on the steering wheel and became unconscious. A police report isavailable if needed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The failure mileage was 40,000.
Front passenger seat failed to register an adult in seat and "passenger air bag off" light remained illuminated. Two days later the air bag warning light illuminated and "passenger air bag off" would not stay on when seat was empty.kia dealership determined it was a failed occupant sensor mat.approximate cost of repair is $1500.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. When the vehicle was started, the front passenger side air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,063.
Right front seat air bag sensor, dealer states none of the air bags will deploy in a collision because of this sensor.
Car took me off the side of the road and straight into a tree dead center roughly going 35 miles an hour. Air bags did not deploy!!!! hit my head on steering wheel. And now trying to figure out if it was the dealership selling defective cars or if its kia defect. Not understanding this whole airbag does not deploy thing because the safety graph explains 0-8 mph airbags will never go off 8-14 mph airbags are possible but not likely 14-above airbags should deploy always.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag light illuminated continuously. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the diagnostic test results were unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.update (july 9, 2015): it doesn't matter whether there is a passenger in the seat or not, the light stays illuminated. Whether the passenger is 80lbs or 200lbs it doesn't go off. The problem has been noted by several repair shops but has not been repaired. The light has been on since about 2 months after i bought the car so that is where i got the october 1, 2010 date. Scthe consumer stated it did not matter whether a passenger was in the seat or not. The air bag light was constantly on. Updated 07/30/15
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. When the contact started the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The air bag warning indicator illuminated every time the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the occupant sensor mat failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Driver passed out making left turn going 5 mph and hit the concrete pole for the traffic light on the east side of u.s. 19.
Reporting 3 issues:***fuel system:in july 2009, one month after i purchased my used 2007 kia spectra (46k miles), the vehicle stalled at idle/low rpm while in traffic on an interstate highway. Once restarted, it continued to stall at every idle until a significant amount of fuel was consumed.almost 5 years later, the problem is ongoing.stalling occurs if the fuel tank is filled (to the point of automatic pump shut-off).the tank has never been "topped off".in august 2011, the stalling was so frequent and hazardous due to traffic conditions that the driver had to press the gas pedal down while braking in order to raise rpm and reduce stalling.the owner has had some success in avoiding the issue by fueling to no more than 80% of tank capacity.the repeated intermittent stalling poses an enormous safety issue, especially on congested roadways. ***air bags:on numerous occasions, the passenger air bag indicator light has illuminated (indicating the air bag is turned off) while an adult was seated. ***gear shift and ignition key:beginning in may 2012, and in numerous instances following, the vehicle would not shift into park.mechanic discovered a broken safety lock in the shifting mechanism.this problem was not fixed, but overridden by accessing the plastic lever underneath the console and pulling with the left hand while shifting.the ignition key gets stuck frequently (4 out 5 uses) even when the vehicle is in park.
As i was driving my 2007 kia spectra out of nowhere all my emergency lights came on and my car locked up and turned off while i was exiting the freeway. The steering wheel locked up and i could not turn it to get my car off the road. I then had to put my car in park turn the ignition off then restart it. This has happened more than 3 different times. Also as i am driving, my car starts to slow down like it starves for gas and i have to step on the gas and push the pedal down all the way before it will eventually pick up and go.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ocs mat sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 152,283.
My indicator on my dash board for an airbag problem came on, upon taking it to a maintenance shop they found out that it was due to a sensor going bad in the passenger seat. After they called multiple places, including the local kia dealership regarding this problem, they informed me that this is a recurrent issue in my kia model, so much to the point that a seat may only be attained from the manufacturer with a prolong waiting time because of the high demand for the replacement of them due to this problem. After researching online, many different sources have confirmed this to be true, why is this not a recall? the passenger seat airbag sensor module clearly has a fault, rendering it to have a short life span, this is a safety hazard. If it had gone bad while i was driving with someone in the passenger seat, and happened to encounter an accident, the passenger airbag would not have deployed. Not to mention that the seat module itself is by no means an inexpensive part, consumers should not be expected to pay for a problem that was guaranteed to go bad after a short time, if that was the case it should be stated upon the purchase of the car from the dealership.
Airbag light is on indicating a fault in the airbag system.the passenger seat ocs mat sensor may be defective. Airbag system will not work in accident.
Air bag sensor light comes on and off randomly. Will stay on for weeks then go off. Has happened since purchase of car.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, she drove over a road bump that caused her to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a tree. All of the air bags failed to deploy. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 80,000.
The airbag light came on at around 84,000 miles and the "passenger air bag off" no longer illuminates. Diagnostic testing shows a code b1448 indicating that the ocs, passenger seat sensor has malfunctioned. This is an expensive item to replace, and is definitely a safety issue. I have noticed that this same issue has been reported repeatedly. Because it has to do with passenger safety, i feel this item should be recalled and covered by kia.
The air bag warning light illuminated while an adult passenger was in the front seat.during a visit to our local kia dealership we were told the airbag sensor mat in the passenger seat was defective and the seat (where the module was located) needed to be replaced.cost $1008 for the part, and $222 for labor.since the 60,000 mile warranty had expired, there was no warranty coverage.when we contacted the kia motor corporation to ask for financial assistance with this repair, we were told there was nothing they could do.an air bag sensor should not be considered a wear-and tear item.it is absurd that kia would require the consumer to cover the cost of replacing a defectively designed safety component.there should be a recall for this component and replacement at no cost for those owners whose air bag sensors are found to be defective.
Passenger air bag light is on and remains on--apparently this indicates that the passenger air bag is defective.why is this not recalled when so many complain of the same problem in this year and model car?
Started car driver side air illuminated and stayed an still on and doesn't go off.and back driver side seat belt is lock and wont come out so no one can ride on that side of car because seat belt does not work.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 187,000.

I had a 2007 kia spectra. My daughter was going to washington to help her husband fix up an apartment for them to move in. I suggested to my daughter that she could take my car since it was new and more reliable. I received a call about 12:30 am. She told me that someone stopped quickly in front of her and she veered to keep from hitting her. She said that when she did something happened with the car and she lost control. She ended getting hit from behind and pushed into another vehicle. Sandwiching the car in the middle. I might would have thought that it was human error on her part. But, the air bags did not even deploy. This tells me that something was horribly wrong with my car and my daughter was blessed to have been able to walk away from the accident. My car was a total loss and the insurance adjuster told me there was nothing salvageable from this car. I told him that i felt that it was strange that both the front and back of the car was crushed and the air bags did not deploy. This tells me something was terribly wrong. Can you look into this for me. Thank you for your time and consideration.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the driver was traveling at unknown speeds and crashed into another vehicle. Upon impact, the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to prevent the driver from striking the steering wheel. The contact's vehicle was pushed under the second vehicle involved in the crash. The driver sustained injuries to the eye, fifth vertebrae and a collapsed lung. The police were contacted and a report was filed. The driver was transported to the hospital via ambulance and remained hospitalized for approximately 20 days before passing. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who later diagnosed the vehicle. The results determined that the air bag sensor was not impacted due to the positioning of the vehicle in the crash. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was unavailable.
I own a 2007 kia spectra. The the air bag warning light illuminated while driving. The vehicle was diagnosed with code 1448 and was told the ocs mat would need to be replaced costed over $1400. This can cause the airbag to deploy if theres a child sitting in the front passenger seat. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 187,000
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra 5. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag sensor warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. Updated 07/10/12*ljwhen the consumer contacted the dealer about the air bag light illuminating when the seat was occupied, the dealer advised her to sit more centered in the seat.updated 07/11/12
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. While turning on the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The details of the diagnosis could not be provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 162,000.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated, which indicated that the air bag was deactivated. The indicator had been illuminated since the vehicle was bought brand new. The dealer could not duplicate the failure. When the vehicle was taken in for inspection, the mechanic discovered that the driver side cluster indicator on the air bag was constantly illuminated. The vehicle failed the inspection. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 10.
The air bag light on the dash along with the "passenger side air bag off" lights came on and stayed on during a 1 hour trip as we were moving to our new apartment. Luckily we did not have very far to move when this sudden safety hazard arose as we could not move a passenger to the back seat. The sensor did not recognize my wife at a little over 110 lbs. Nor myself at over 175 lbs. After taking it to the local kia dealership, we were informed that the ocs mat would need to be replaced with a cost of around $1100 for parts and $230 for the labor. It took about a week to resolve the problem.
Passenger airbag indicator failed to turn on when adult passenger sat in seat. Airbag light appeared and was brought to dealership. Was informed issue was a defective ocs mat on passenger side.
On my way to work i took the same route that i always take. I was going about 25mph and all of a sudden all of the lights came on ( check oil, battery, emergency brake, tire pressure, airbag, and check engine) the steering wheel completely locked up causing my car to swerve right into a community mail box. My windshield is broken, the front passenger side is off and the two passenger side tires are both flat. When i got my car in march of this year three days after i got it it had started doing this i took it back and it was in the shop for more than 3 months. When they had told me this problem was fixed i trusted that they were right but unfortunately it led me to this... The dealership has not returned my phone call and my insurance does not cover for a rental car. I have 2 children and my job does not pay me enough to just pay and get a new car or pay and have this car fixed. I am very unhappy with the responses about this car. Why would these cars be sold to people.
The passenger airbag light goes on intermittently.the dealer has attempted to fix the problem 5 times so far.they claim they are unable to duplicate the problem and there are no codes stored in the computer.therefore, the vehicle is fine.the vehicle is not safe for my wife to be a passenger.they have offered to look at it again after we had the district attorney's office get involved, but we are 45 miles away from the dealer.the last time they looked at it they said it was fine.we still have an unsafe vehicle.

About 8 months ago or more, the vehicle started locking whenever it wantedto, so i have to wear the keys around my neck on a lanyard.now, about 4 weeks ago, the vehicle started not letting me out of the car.the door unlock button does not release the mechanism.the only way out of the driver seat is to roll down the window, open the car from the outside by reaching my arm through the open window, opening the door, rolling up the window and turning the car off.were i to go off the road into a body of water, i could not get out of the car.in reading on the internet, i see this as a problem with kia optima models.
I have a 2007 kia spectra and the wires to the fan controller are melting. I researched the problem and found a lot of people are having the some problem and kia does not have a solution for the problem. These wires get very hot and i am concerned about a fire hazard. So as it is now i have no ac no heat.
On my 2007 kia spectra the blower motor has a field effects transistor, the transistor has malfunctioned and got so hot it has melted theplug and wiring to it.i have taken it in to kia and they insist there is nothing wrong with it.after looking on the internet i have found that i'm not the only one that has this problem.
The doors lock again immediately after unlock.this happens almost all of the time.the locks also lock and unlock repeatedly while the car is in motion.

The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. While driving various speeds, the transmission would suddenly shift out of gear and the speed reduced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wire harness to the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.
Wiring system overheated and the started sparking. The relay and coating melted off the wires.
Dear sir/madam,this vehicle has the problem of locking its door automatically. On the reported incident date, inside the garage the door locked automatically (also happens when i try to open both doors) seconds after buckling up my 5 year old son. The keys were inside the car and it would have been a disaster had i not left the garage door open to get the spare key from home. When i reported this issue back in 2008 and 2011, kia didn't have technicians and asked me to come back later. I reported the same when i went for service in april 2013 they told that they will diagnose the problem and parts will need to be paid for in addition to diagnostic fees. I reviewed online and it seems kia has a significant number of vehicles with this issue this is a safety issue in case a child gets trapped inside the car in which case the windows may need to be shattered to get access to the child (and can cause injury to the child as well). I would appreciate recommending kia to fix the problem for all affected peoplethanks and best regards,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
2007 kia spectra with defective auto-off headlamps. Consumer states that this problem has caused the battery to die and him to need a jumpstart. He also states that the lights will come on periodically and will sometimes stay on.the dealer has been unable to diagnose the problem. The dealer replaced several components, including the ignition switch which failed, as well as the multi-function switch.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the air conditioning motor failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was determined that the wiring harness was melted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 134,000.
I was driving on the interstate about 65 mph. All of sudden, the car lost all forward motion power. When i pressed the gas, the rpms increased, but the car did not get any power. The engine continued to run without problem. After stopping on the shoulder, i put the car in park and turned off the engine. After starting again, i put the car in drive, the forward power was working again and the car shifted fine. Transmission fluid was changed at 110,000 miles. Suspecting transmission, i took to a transmission specialist. I was given the following information: error code p0750 shift solenoid; error code p0755 shift solenoid b; error code p0760 shift solenoid c; error code p0765 shift solenoid d. Was given price quote to fix, but encouraged to contact kia dealership about problem as they had seen this before on other similar kia spectras. Called dealership to inform them of problem. Left message, but never got a return call; and the one time i got a person, i was told that they would have someone from service call me back. Never heard from anyone. On may 16, 2015, the same thing happened, only this time turning the car off did not work and the check engine light came on. I was able to disconnect the battery and reconnect, then the car shifted again. Has anyone else had this problem? is there a recall? before i spend $2000, i want to know if kia is avoiding my calls because they know there is problem? did internet search and have found similar complaints.
Owner noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood while driving, vehicle quit moving and would not restart. Upon inspection, the ign 2 30 amp fusible link located in the engine compartment fuse box was blown and the starter solenoid, located on the starter, was melted. It was discovered that there was no factory circuit protection between the battery and the starter solenoid. It is speculated that the ignition switch became stuck in the start position and melted the starter solenoid due to continuous starter operation after the initial start until melting and smoke occurred. While there was no fire this time, the absence of circuit protection on this circuit poses a serious risk because this wire runs from the battery, over the transmission, and up behind the engine, ultimately to the starter solenoid. There are many places where this wire could rub and wear off the insulation over time, causing a short to ground directly to the battery with no circuit protection.
My car was parked, in my driveway, and had ran fine the day before. I went out and started the car but could not get the car out of park and into reverse. I was unable to even roll the car a little by pushing it, which indicates the car was stuck in park with force. I had my neighbor come over and he managed to, with a ton of pressure, put the car in reverse. Seems to not be as hard on a flat surface but my driveway has a slant to it. Put car back in driveway and tried to leave a couple hours later and same issue. I had to purchase aaa and have somebody come out to pull out of park. Looked on line and there's a ton of recalls big mine the 2007 kia spectra. Which is the only year not being recalled. I was told, by kia dealership it was safe to drive but pet my research, no it's not. They want to change for repair yet every other kia make is recalled.
The door locks have gone haywire.they click on and off automatically whether you are driving or if the engine has been turned off.had to break the lock on the driver's side in order to exit the car.passenger side will not open as well even via using a key in the door lock. This is an extreme safety hazard!contacted kia a month ago, they never got back to me. I have seen on the internet where other kia owners have the same problem.
Drove car aprox.15 miles, pull the car up to a store, turned off the car and went inside.next thing someone came up to me and said the car was on fire. The fire was under the hood of the car near the battery.tried to open the hood, cable was melted and the hood would not open.tried to put the fire out with help with 4 fire extinguishers, could not contain thefire.fire department finally got to the scene and put the fire out.fire department had to cut part of the hood off to contain the fire.
I didn't know about this website until i realize that my 2007 kia spectra ex was not on the list of recall for brake light problem. So i started search for reporting it. I know my affect part is engine, but my husband & i car is falling apart. We don't have the money to have it fix. The engine is the last problem we have had so far.it stall if you go too fast around 55. It stall all the time.my husband stop at a red light it cut off. I believe the company should pay for the problems. They had no problem asking for a large amount of money from us. Both of the problems i stated are dangerous. Please help in doing something.
Engine 💡 came on imidiately after pulling out of dealership.so i ca"ed them and they stated it wasnt anything to worry about.several customers were calling in about the same issue.they said it was just the change in weather and the gas cap.they reset engine 💡 several times.no sooner than i would pull off the lot,it would come back on.then i ask them for an auto check history report showing odometer desciipancies.roll back calculations.the radiatoris cracked, the emergency brake doesn't work, and the brakes and stuff are bad.
I reportedmultiple complaints on fuel tank over filling, tank was replaced but problem still exists. Lost of power when driving and exhilaration when trying to stop. Also have problems with engine, engine was replaced but problem still exists.
I owned a 2007 kia spectra 5 sx the car had around 36,000 mile on it. We have never had any problems out of the car then on the 10th of jan 09 my husband drove the car to run some errands. He was sitting at a red light when the engine compartment caught fire for no apparent reason and completely destroyed the car. When we called kia for roadside assistance we were told it was an insurance matter and we would have to call them. The only thing they have offered to do is buy the car back for around 7,000 dollars which is less than my insurance company is offering and no where near what the loan pay off is on the car. They refuse to do anything else. So much for my 10,000 10 year warranty which covered nothing. My husband could have been killed but luckily escaped without injury. I really don't want this to happen to some one else with a worse out come.

The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra.in january of 2009, the vehicle overheated.the contact took it to the dealer and they stated that a bypass hose was leaking.the hose was replaced and the engine was cleaned because oil leaked all over the motor.the oil was also changed.in april of 2009, the vehicle failed due to overheating and would not start.the dealer stated that due to the contact's lack of maintenance and failure to change the oil regularly, she would need a whole new engine.the engine was burnt up and would cost $6,000 to replace.the kia manufacturer stated that based on the dealer's information, they would not repair the engine.the failure mileage was 32,165.
After filling the gas tank to the full line. The car occasionally sputters at freeway speeds, and will cut off if idling for than one minute. The problem stop happening after the fuel level has gone below the full line. I have taken it to the dealer. The dealers say there are no trouble codes in the computer and there is nothing they can do.
2007 kia spectra. Consumer states vehicle stalls whenever the tank is full *tgwthe consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and they claimed the problem was caused by topping up, which the consumer claimed never happened.the consumer stated the vehicle stalled again while driving in rush hour traffic.the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, only to be told it was due to the same problem.
The floor mat on the driver's side of my 2007 kia spectra will not remain anchored.although i'm writing this complaint in 2009, this has been a problem since i bought the car in 2007.i recently brought the car in to the dealership to fix the door locks (which lock on their own immediately after you unlock them) and i brought mat issue to the attention of the service department while there.they proceeded to push the mat back into the anchor (like i haven't tried that hundreds of times in the last two years?), but it was out again within a day - so they have not fixed this nor appear to want to address it.i view this as an unacceptable safety issue and after seeing a news report tonight about a major fatal accident involving a similar problem with a toyota i am determined to get this addressed by the dealership!on the note about the door locks - i will be bringing it back for the fourth time to address that problem next week.i also wanted to point out, that i had a safety concern with my old 2000 kia sephia years ago where the driver's side seatbelt wouldn't stay latched if you just tugged on the belt a little.the dealership (a different one) refused to replace it (because my warranty had expired) and wanted to charge me hundreds of dollars to fix it.i filed a complaint and the usdot highway safety division paid to replace them as long as i sent the old components to them so they could test the latch.shortly thereafter, the seatbelts to both front seats were recalled and i went back in to get my passenger latch replaced under this massive recall.i am very disappointed to find that kia is still not stepping up to the plate on safety issues without having to get regulatory bodies involved!this is a great way to ruin customer loyalty in someone who gave them a second chance!!!!

I have a 2007 kia spectra 5.i pulled into a gas station and a woman pulled in to tell me i had no brake lights.i had just gone on a trip with my parents following behind me so it had to have just gone out.the next day my husband called the kia dealership and they said because the spectra was not on the recall list we would have to pay out of pocket. It seems that since the defect is occurring exactly like other models.there are also instances i have found online of other spectras doing the same thing.
The contact owns 2007 kia spectra. The headlights failed twice. The dealer replaced the headlights, but the failure was not corrected. When the high beams were turned offthey caused the low beams to fail. The dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. The dealer confirmed that there were no recalls related to the electrical failure and they are not sure if the repairs will be covered by the warranty. The failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.
2007 kia spectra's engine dies after i fill it up with gas, but will be fine after i've used some gas. I don't top off my gas so that cannot be the problem. I find it very dangerous to drive my vehicle when it dies during rush hour traffic. I have taken it to a kia dealership but they said they do not know what the problem is after they ran tests on it. My spectra wasn't giving the kia dealership mechanic any problems so after having my car for almost 1 week they gave it back to me and told me to take my car back in to them if it should happen again. Well it happened again, so i plan on taking it back in tomorrow morning asap!

I had this car serviced at the dealer on tuesday and it drove fine, i filled the fuel tank at the same station i have been using for over a year. And drove home(1-1/2mi) the next day after about 10 miles the car began to miss and the engine died i restarted it and drove about 1/2 mile and it died again i drove to the dealer and left the car to be checked. I was told the fuel tank had been over filled and that the same three system components (less than a year ago i had the same problem) required change at over $700. I do not top off the tank, and have been extremely watchful that it is not topped off since the first incident. This is a safety hazardhad i been in the left lane. The power steering and power brake fail with the engine not running. I think a safety recall should be started before a death. I see many reports of the same problem with the spectra. This may be caused by the driver or not ( i did not and do not top of the fuel tank). But the problem seems to be a flaw in the fuel vapor system on this car.
My 2007 kia spectra ex has something wrong with the overflow tank.when i take my car to the gas station i turn my car and pump the gas.if i fill the tank up (the pump automatically shutting off) my car will die while i am driving, parked, or idling.when i 'm driving my car down the road the car will suddenly die and lose power steering and then start again.there have been several times that my car has died while going around a corner and it has been very hard to maintain control of my car with the loss of power steering.i have taken my car to the shop approximately two times to have them fix this problem while under warranty and they could never duplicate the problem.however, when i took my car to the shop when it was no longer under warranty the service worker said that it was a defect with the charcoal tank.
On may 26, 2008, i purchased a 2007 kia spectra at carmax, which is located at 11335 atlantic boulevard, jacksonville, florida32225.several months later i discovered that the vehicle was not of satisfactory quality, because while driving the vehicle would shut off without advance notice.the vehicle would shut off at the stop light, driving on the highway during rush hour, pulling into my driveway, or after making turns. These occurrences have placed my life, my family members; as well as, the general public in danger on numerous occasions. I am driving an unsafe vehicle that is clearly un-roadworthy. The vehicle was serviced on seven different occasions by 'specialized kia technicians' to no avail.work was performed by technicians from camden (georgia), brunswick (georgia), and jacksonville (florida) kia dealerships they have yet to identify or successfully repair the vehicle.i am dissatisfied with the service i have received thus far.i have already attempted to resolve this problem by contacting representatives from the corporate office via telephone, contacting thomas j. Folliard, ceo of carmax, via mail, contacting kia customer service in addition to contacting kia corporate office via telephone. I have exhausted all administrative avenues.i have enclosed copies of my records, receipts, in addition to pertinent history and contact information for your review.unfortunately, the problems remain unresolved. As i am sure you can relate; i rely on my vehicle for transport. Each attempt made to repair the vehicle has caused a significant inconvenience.
Gas line/tank/canister issues.my spectra has been to the dealership approx. 11 times.i have had the gas canister replaced 4 times and on my last visit they replaced the entire tank.the car will stall out while driving or idling.when it stalls you lose the ability to steer or brake, because they lose power.i have stalled mid-intersection, on the expressway, at stop signs/stop lights, no reason when it happens, it just starts shaking, sometimes violently and then stalls.kia dealership says we are overfilling and that they recommend not using citgo gas.we do neither.they have said that the canister valve does not stop overfilling, which allows that gas to contaminate other areas of the vehicle, which causes the stall.i have filed a complaint with kia headquarters and spoke with tom moralles, the consumer affairs mgr.i asked how many times does the car need to be repaired before they deem it unsafe and unable to be fixed.he says they never do, they will keep repairing and that he does not have a crystal ball to tell me that they can fix it once and for all.he told me that if i am not happy i should contact the better business bureau.i drive with 2 small children and when the car stalls and i have other vehicles about to smash into us, it scares them and it scares me.what is to say with this gas leak/contamination that a common fender bender at one of these stall out times would not result in my car exploding should a spark ignite my gas leak?kia knows that this happening and these vehicles should have been recalled.the fact that they don't want to help in any other way is unacceptable.these cars are a safety hazard not only to my family, but other families that i could crash into when i lose power and cannot brake.is it going to take someone to die for anyone to pay attention to this.i found many cases the same as mine just by searching the web.when is enough, enough ?now. Before someone is killed.
I drive a 2007 kia spectra ex, with 37,000 miles still under warranty. I believe it suffers from a manufacturer's defect in the fuel & exhaust system making it dangerous to drive. Every time i fill the gas tank completely, the car stalls. This stall usually occurs while idling and within 10 miles from my fueling. It can be extremely dangerous to stall in the middle of a 6 lane 50mph commuter road during rush hour and i feel very unsafe driving this vehicle as a result. I have nearly been rear ended and run over when this occurs. I have taken it to the kia dealership 3 times for this problem, 2 of the times they said they could find nothing wrong and 1 time they changed a purge valve in the fuel system. The problem is still not resolved even though the car is under warranty.
Problems with the fuel tank and purge canister system. The normal operation of fueling the vehicle can cause the purge system to become filled with fuel. This causes the vehicle to stall at the most dangerous times on the road; stop lights, slower moving in traffic, it has also semi stalled while on the freeway or roadway.the vehicle has been to the dealer for repairs two times; however, the first time it was in and out for about a month, it would stall driving it out of the dealer!!it is now in for the second time, with no end in sight. The purge valve and canister have been replaced. These actions however will not correct the underlying problem , which is a defect in the design of the fuel evaporation recovery system. I fully expect the problem to reoccur. I do not feel safe or secure in this vehicle and i do not trust it.something needs to be done.
After i fillup gas tank car shake and die on the highway orlando fl kia dealer change the canstar in the tank steel doing the same thing. It is very dangeres needs to be ck by the gov.
The vehicle has been stalling randomly after the fuel tank is filled. After it stalls the engine will not start right way and it can stall again until fuel level drops . When filling at gas station the tank only gets filled until gas nozzle self stops it does not continue to get filled.
Vehicle stalled while stopped at intersection, first happened in december and not again until april of the next year. Since april it has begun to stall more often when stopped. Vehicle also hesitates while driving. Vehicle was taken to dealership service center in june; they were not able to figure out what was wrong. Vehicle was taken to same dealership service center in august, after stalling and hesitation dramatically increased. I provided the service center with the possible problem and solution that i found through research online. Diagnostic testing confirmed that it is a known issue with the fuel tank. Replaced fuel tank, evap canister, vent solenoid, purge flow solenoid, and canister filter, with parts and labor totalling $1100. Service center refused to answer whether the parts are the same design as the defective parts, or if they have been fixed/updated.
Problems with the fuel tank and purge canister system.the normal operation of fueling the vehicle can cause the purge system to become filled with fuel. This created a dangerous situation by allowing fuel to be expelled or leak out of the tank or what the dealer called overflow onto the floor in my garage. We have followed the dealers instructions regarding topping off after the initial shutoff of the gas pump to the extent of not filling the tank to capacity yet this has not made any difference. Not only does it present a safety issue with fuel leaking in an enclosed area but it also causes the vehicle to stall at the most dangerous times on the road. The vehicle has been to the dealer for repairs three times. The purge valve and canister have been replaced. These actions however will not correct the underlying problem , which is a defect in the design of the fuel evaporation recovery system. I fully expect the problem to reoccur. After researching the issue on the internet i have discovered many complaints regarding this problem. It seems to be present in other kia models as well.
My 2007 kia spectra stalls out every time i fill the tank. It stalls during high rate of speed and during normal low speed driving. My kia is out of warranty, and from what i have read on other sites it would be a waste of time to have it fixed. Also i had to replaced the stop light switch under the dash. The recall was with 5 kia models but not the spectra.
I purchased a kia spectra and reported to the dealership southwest kia that my gas pedal was sticking. I re-injured my right hand. I took the car to the dealership for inspection. But the peddle kept sticking. I also purchased a insurance that will pay your car payments when you are unable to work due to a medical condition. I filed a claim and it did not pay my car payments. Next thing i went out and my car was gone. The dealership accused me of making a false complaint. This all happen in 2009 not long before you foundgas peddle sticking. Can you help me ?
I reportedmultiple complaints on fuel tank over filling, tank was replaced but problem still exists. Lost of power when driving and exhilaration when trying to stop. Also have problems with engine, engine was replaced but problem still exists.
This car acts like its running out of gas about every 4 months since i've owned it, its usually after i fill it up, it stalls at lights and sputters going down the road, have actually had it die going around corners. Mention it every time i go to dealership for maintenance and of course there is no code because the check engine light never comes on when it happens. This is a very unsafe car and if i could buy something else i would. Will never buy a kia again!
When i fill my tank with gas it spills out in the overflow.it stalls every stoplight and in traffic!
Each time after filling the gas tank, the car will randomly die. After a complete fill up, it takes approximately 100 miles for the problem to abate. Through some online research, i find i'm not the only one having this issue. It's a definite safety concern. The car can die at any speed, any time and any driving condition. This car was given to me. I know the previous owner had it checked several times for the same issue. I want to know if it can be fixed. I can't afford to have my car die while in traffic on the highway.

The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. While driving approximately 50 mph, there was an abnormal scraping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact exited the vehicle and observed that the fuel tank detached from the vehicle and was dragging. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank straps failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
After filling up my gas tank i went a few miles and stalled while at a stop light. I drove a few blocks and stalled again while stopped. After another few blocks i stalled once more.
Vehicle will stall after gas tank is filled. Gas fumes can be smelled. Car can stall while idling or at high rate of speed. When it stalls power steering is lost, posing a serious safety risk. The kia dealership tried to tell me it was my fault - that i over filled the gas tank. From 30 other reports i found on line, the tank orvr is not sealing completely and it allows fuel to seep into the charcoal canister and vacuumed all the wya to the intake via the purge control solenoid valve. Dealership's third attempt at a repair includes: replacing fuel tank, evap canister, vent solenoid, purge flow solenoid, and canister filter, with parts and labor totaling over $1000.i have emailed and called kia headquarters but they will do nothing.how can so many people have this same problem - a major safety issue - and kia just ignores it. Says alot about a company.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. While driving at 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and fuel was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the fuel system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,600.
After filling up my gas tank my car stalled a few miles down the road at a stop light. A few lights later it stalled again and a few more lights it stalled once more. I heard from other kia spectra owners that particular problem isn't uncommon with that model. After filling up the gas tank to a normal level the car stalls. I didn't top off the car and it wasn't the quality of the gas. I recently took the car to kia and they told me it wasn't a defect. This problem is a defect, experienced by many people. It needs to be recalled. They must fix this safety issue. I stalled while the car was in operation and heavy traffic.
There's a problem with the gas tank on my aunt's 2007 kia spectra.after filling the tank with fuel, the car stalls and cuts off.she took the car to kia and paid to have it fixed.however, it has happened three times since.she was told to be sure not to top off the fuel.she has never topped off or over filled. Yet it still happens.she has been fortunate to this point because it hasn't stalled when she's been on a freeway or in heavy traffic.we understand that the car could have caught on fire.please look into this matter.
Over the past two years, my kia has stalled multiple times upon refueling. I never topped off while fueling and do not understand what's going on. The car cuts offwhile driving or sitting at a stop light.it also gives off an awful gas smell.i am terrified of driving the vehicle because it's very dangerous especially on highways where the speed limit is at least 50mph. I am concerned as i have very small children that could be harmed. I have researched this issue to the best of my ability & find many kia owners with the same problem. I am constantly given different diagnostics from service centers.
The kia spectra 2007 engine stalls after refilling. I did not 'top it off' at the gas station, it was simply filled up by the clicking of the fuel pump.the car stalled three times (all engine lights, brake lights suddenly turned on), wheel had weak control in the middle of the road, driving home (roughly 3 mile range). Fortunately, i was at the light every time (with people behind me). If i had been driving 60 miles per hour, i probably would've died, unaware of loss of vehicle control.i turned on my vehicle warning light immediately, and the cars behind me were able to get around me.i just took some time to research this, and apparently it's happening to a bunch of other people as well.here's a youtube video documenting what happens, you basically lose control of your vehicle.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdmjj_kqgduhere's a list of other people who have seen this problem:http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2007/kia/spectra/fuel+systemthe car is now a death trap for me, i don't even know where to start since driving anywhere could potentially get me killed.
The past several years my kia has stalled multiple times upon refueling. I have stopped topping off while refueling. The car cuts off while driving or whiling idling. It gives off an awful gas smell. It has shut off on highways and in city while driving. I have researched this issue and find many kia owners with the same problem. I am constantly given different diagnostics from kia authorized service centers.replacements for the fuel system assemble have totaled in the thousands.
I have a 2007 kia spectra and the keyless door opener and lock system has never worked properly.the locks don't open when they're supposed to and lock when they're not supposed to.i brought to kia dealer before warranty expired and they told me they couldn't replicate my problem and hinted that i was not using the buttons correctly.well at around 60,450 miles i started my car to get the heat on, i took off the keyless entry device and closed the door to let my car warm up.i did not lock the door using the button on the keyless device, but the door locks locked automatically with my car on.no way would that keyless entry device allow me to get back in the car. It was 11:00 pm, cold, luckily some friends remained with me and tried to get in the car with coat hangars and other devices to no avail.eventually i had to call a locksmith, to get in which cost $50, however all the trying to get in damaged both the passenger and driver door mechanisms so now i have the expense of getting this fixed, which kia should have fixed before the warranty ran out.i tried for an hour pressing the buttons on the keyless entry, the doors wouldn't open, the trunk wouldn't open, the battery was fine in the keyless entry device, the light worked like it normally works but it wouldn't open the car!what if god forbid i had just buckled a child in the backseat and closed the back door and then tried to open my door to get in and the car locked itself.or if there were some other emergency and i couldn't get in.in addition to this being a convenience issuei definitely think it could also be a safety issue.i feel kia should be responsible for fixing my damaged door mechanisms, in addition to reimbursing me for the locksmith.i would appreciate any help you might be able to bring to this matter.i also feel that the dealer didn't want to be bothered really checking out the problem, because the warranty was going to be up at 60,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra.the contact exited the vehicle and shut the door with the keys still in the ignition.after a few seconds, all of the doors locked automatically with her 11 month old child still in the vehicle.the contact's father used a slim jim to open the door.she called the manufacturer, but was unable to speak with a representative.the failure and current mileages were 12,769. Updated 09/13/08.*ljthe consumer stated the engine was still running. Updated 09/16/08.
The doors lock again immediately after unlock.this happens almost all of the time.the locks also lock and unlock repeatedly while the car is in motion.
The power door locks have not worked properly for over 2 years now.
While filling up with gas, i heard a distinct click and upon looking saw that all of the car doors had locked.my keys were still in the ignition.i called the road service that is associated with the car and they had it open almost immediately for me.the doors have locked independently a few more times since then while i have been driving down the road.approximate mileage: 17,000.
Interior door handle failure on drivers side door latch assembly.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that while park he attempted to open the doors from the exterior of the vehicle with the key fob. The front driver and passenger side doors began to lock and unlock independently simultaneously. The contact mentioned that in some occasions the failure occurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to three different dealers for diagnostic testing who were unable to diagnose the failure. The third time the vehicle was taken to the dealer the technician suggested the door lock module on both driver and passenger side door needed to be replaced. The failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
My 2007 kia spectra's doors will randomly lock and unlock. This has caused great concern both in situations where i would need to get into my car quickly - for example a mugging or snowstorm, and where i leave my car parked in a public location.research online indicates this is a common problem, yet kia refuses to fix it unless they can replicate the issue, and instead try to hint that it's user error. I've filmed this occurrence, and multiple people have seen the door locks "argue" with the fob's unlock command. The manufacturer refuses to honor the warranty unless they can replicate it and told me "bring it back when the locks fail entirely." it is a constant issue now. I will be taking it back to kia again this weekend.
The automatic door locks will lock independently of the fob or door button.when using the fob the doors will unlock and then lock back instantly.i have to play a 'catch me if you can' game, just to get into my car.i can not exit the car to get gas without it locking on it's own. First time i turned it in for service the problem 'could not be duplicated'.turned in second time and they are replacing the door lock mechanism.waiting on parts.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that none of the seat belts in the rear of the vehicle locked. Also, the locks on all the doors locked independently which caused the contact's infant child to become locked inside the vehicle alone. The failures recurred numerous times. The manufacturer had been notified. The vehicle had not been repaired. The mileage was unknown. The vin was unknown.
On three occasions my 2007 kia spectra's engine has raced madly when i was stopped with my foot on the brake. It was all i could do to keep the car from moving with the brake fully depressed. The most recent date that it happened was 7/27/2010. I turned the engine off for about one minute and when i restarted it the engine was ok. Around xmas 2009, the same thing happened when i was stopped in traffic. I tried moving the gear shift into neutral and park and turning it off several times to no avail. I finally put it in drive and let it inch forward and suddenly the racing stopped. At that time i removed the car mat and have not used the mat since then.today i took the car to the dealer to be checked out. They tell me they cannot find anything wrong with it. They checked the error codes in memory and gave me a listing of the codes. They tell me none of the codes relate to what i experienced.the only other problem that i have experienced was the front passenger door not latching. Iwould slam the door and it would pop back open again. I depressed the lock and unlock buttons on the remote several times before the door would latch.
I was approx. 6 car lengths from car in front of me, when i hit the brakes to slow down, nothing happened. I continued to hit the brakes , forcing them to the floor and still nothing. First instinct was to veer to the right to avoid hitting the car but my steering had a mind of its own, it would not let me turn or stop. My steering wheel air bag did deploy causing damage to my wrist and arm. But the scary feeling of trying to stop with no response was scary. Roads were a little wet but even then with the abs i should not have been able to put the brake pedal to the floor with no response. I am getting the repair facility to check the brakes.
I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden the check engine light came on and i lost all power in the gas pedal,( you can floor the peddle and it don't go over 2000 rpm ) almost resulting in a collision. It only comes on when it want to, i had the codes checked at auto zone and they said its saying all the solenoids are bad. I looked up this problem online and there are alot of owners experiencing this same issue in the same year,+1 and-1,and with the same approximate mileage, it says that kia has come out with an update to the transmission computer to remedy the issue, the kia dealer wants an outrageous amount to update the computer, when discussing this with kia corporate they said well if a recall is issued then we can get refund, but i don't have the cash to pay for the repair, an update should be free, they are acknowledging the defect, there for because of the danger it can cause a recall is in order...
While driving my 2007 kia spectra- automatic transmission on 1/1/2008, down the road at 45mph, the car suddenly went from high gear to low gear and it stayed on low gear.i took it to the dealership to have it fix.they told me it was some type of relay that needed to be reset.they reset the relay that day.since then it has happened two more times at higher speed, which the dealership fixed the problem each time.so that's a total of three times it has happened.now, for a fourth time, it has happened again on 11/01/2014.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate. The vehicle began to shake and the contact noticed a smell similar to burning rubber. The police reported to the scene and assisted in moving the vehicle onto the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was not towed or inspected by a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I purchased my 2007 kia spectra brand new...it only had 55 miles on the vehicle at time of purchase.while driving the vehicle for a few weeks it started to grind in 2nd gear, i took the kia to the dealership, they informed me that some screws had come loose and that is where the grinding was coming from, i was driving with screws in the clutch! they gave me a rental and put the screws back in the clutching system.i got the car back and it did good for a while and the same problem occurred, again they said screws were loose again!i questioned how the screws kept coming loose, they had no explanation for this problem.this time they didn't give me a rental, i had to get my own and they had to leave work early.got the car back and it did fine for a short while and again the same problem!i took it to kia dealership and they said this time it was some plastic piece that had come loose and that was making it grind in 2nd gear.again, i was without my vehicle and again, no rental.got the car back and drove fine for a few days then the same problem.considering how long they kept my car each time and how long i was without a vehicle each time...i called kia and told them the same problem was happening again.they told me to bring it up there and they would take a look at it...i couldn't be without a vehicle for that long again and miss work again and find ways for my children to get back and forth to school.thinking it was the plastic piece again, i just kept driving it because of all the past problems, i assumed it would be under warranty.i waited longer this time due to the length of time they kept it each time and i really need my vehicle.so because i waited too long, they are questioning the fact as to whether or not it will be under warranty and want me to sign a paper saying that if they tear it down and don't find any manufacturing defects, then i would be responsible for the tear down and any repairs!

Started car driver side air illuminated and stayed an still on and doesn't go off.and back driver side seat belt is lock and wont come out so no one can ride on that side of car because seat belt does not work.

2007 kia spectra.consumer writes in regards to replacement/repairs of damaged vehicle seat belts.the consumer stated she had t pay $500 to get the rear seat belt replaced.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. While attempting to start the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. In addition, while driving at any speed, the vehicle surged forward continuously. The failures recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.
I reportedmultiple complaints on fuel tank over filling, tank was replaced but problem still exists. Lost of power when driving and exhilaration when trying to stop. Also have problems with engine, engine was replaced but problem still exists.
2007 kia spectra 5 brake lights failed today (10/19/2009). Switch is the exact same one that was recalled on similar hyundai elantra cars.since that recall does not cover kia's, i was charged $139 for the replacement.
2007 kia spectra. Consumer states problem with brakes *tgwthe consumer stated the dealer replaced the right front caliper and pad. The consumer then asked if the left front pad needed to be replaced and they stated it did not. After the repair, the next 1,000 miles the brakes did not function properly; the vehicle would pull to the right and several times the front of the vehicle would go into a nose dive. The consumer was informed by another establishment that both pads should have been replaced.
In mid-sept10 i experienced 2 brake failures on my 2007 kia spectra ex. Each time after driving approx 800 miles to & from northern ca. Brakes failed to engage when exiting off of ca99 to ca4 (angels camp). Was able to steer car to far right shoulder where emergency brake was deployed. Thereby not hitting car in front of me. After 5 minutes was able to continue remainder of trip (40miles). Next morning took car to local kia dealership, they kept the car 2days/insisted that i call a report into kia consumer affairs; whichdid. According to them car was "operating according to specs"..in otherwords, we take no responsibility...upon returning back home to az. The same thing happened, except this time my garage door was what stopped my car. Both times the brake pedal was depressed all the way to the floor and nothing happened....again i used the emergency brake...but i damaged my gd/my brothers new car that was parked ion the other side and the front of my car...the car was towed to kia were it was kept for 2wks, while corporate decided how to proceed....after that time my car was returned to me..again with (this time verbally only) the expression of "working according to specs" used...i dealt with kia ca..i thought they were going to take care of the situation....overall i was treated like a i had done it deliberately..i have been driving for 32yrs and never have had as much as a ticket, much less an accident....when i asked the service manager for a "written" statement about the driveablity of my car, i was told it would come fromthe consumer affairs division.......after 2 additional calls to them i gave up.t...i subsequently wrote to our state's attorney's office/the local newspaper/aarp/jd powers & assoc.(they give kia safety awards). In researching i found over 1200 complaints on kiabrake problems alone. ¬hing has been done. I continue to make sure noone i know ever buys a kia! !the sm at kia had the gall to say- drive careful when i picked up my car!!
I am very shocked that the highway traffic and safety administration noticed a problem with the 2006 sportage stop light brake switch but has not taken kia to task for producing faulty stop light brake switches in all its models/years.i've had to replace stop-light brake switches in 2005 and 2007 kia spectra's multiple times. The brake lights stay on after releasing the brake pedal or the light does not go on at all upon applying the brakes..it would appear that china, a country importing kia models, was quicker to react torecalls than you guys are. Even if you take your car in for a faulty brake lightswitch...lots of luck...kia dealers don't even stock the parts.when are you guys going to recall the rest of the kia line? this should have been done yesterday.inaction results not only in potential accidents but millions of dollars in fines and penalties raked in by the states in which kia does business.kia is adding millions of dollars to the state and city coffers the result of fines levied against its users for faulty brakes....
I was shopping at the grocery store and as i am backing out of the parking space, my steering wheel became very very stiff as i cut the wheel to position my car to move forward. I was able to drive forward, but when making a right or left turn the steering wheel was very resistant to the point that i actually had to turn the wheel all the way to right or left to make my turn.on 3/10/2020, i took my car to themechanic and at first i was told i need the belts for a/c, alt and ps, replaced which i authorize and paid $171.60 tax included. On 3/26/2020 i had to return my car to the mechanic due to same hard to steer problem. I was then told i needed to have my power steering pump replaced which i authorized and paid $353.93 tax incl. Next on 4/7/20 the same problem of steering happened. I took it back to mechanic and was told i needed a rack and pinion (p/s rack), at a cost of $848.63 total, which i paid. I had to take it back for the same problem on 7/14/202 and 8/17/2020 and 9/16/2020. I was not charged the last three dates of repair. I recently google searched for recalls and saw that the 2007 kia spectre had indeed been recalled. I called 800-333-4542 and was told my vin num shows no service campaign. I contest their findings i would like my complaint to be investigated. I am also requesting a total reimbursement of $1374.16. Thank you,[xxx]. I look forward to hearing from you.redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *cc

The 2007 kia spectra was in motion on the highway and was in an accident with major impact. The airbag did not deploy. The kia hit another car and had major damages.

We own a 2007 spectra with 13,000 miles, bought new in july 2007. We attempted to use the air conditioner june 2009 and it blew hot air. When taken to the dealer we were told, " the screws and bolts which holds the a/c hose on had come loose from hitting bumps because that's what happens when you drive", so the freon leaked out. They refused to fix it under warranty because, "even though it is a problem with kia's they didn't have to replace any parts". I contacted the kia customer service toll free number who stood by the dealer and dismissed my concern. They tightened the hose and replace the freon. We were forced to pay even refusing my grandfather the senior discount promised to him.

The car locks and unlocks repeatedly on its own when i'm trying to unlockthe driver and/or passenger door.the car is always stationary when i try to unlock the door(s), it will sometimes lock on its own when i'm driving.this started happening about 2 years ago.
The car doors lock randomly while driving, while parked, even in park with the car running--i got locked out with the car running for over 2 hours a couple of months ago.i have learned to have a window open if i exit the car while it is running or to make sure the keys are in my hands any time i exit the car.they also lock and unlock repeatedly when i am trying to unlock the doors to enter the vehicle.with so many people experiencing the same problems with this car, why is this not being addressed?
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra.while driving 15 mph, the contact attempted to stop the vehicle and heard a revving noise coming from the gear shifter.shortly after, the vehicle accelerated across the street.she attempted to steer the vehicle to avoid driving into a ditch.the rear passenger side wheel struck the guardrail, but the vehicle still did not stop.the vehicle continued to drive through bushes and up a hill.the speed finally began to decrease and the vehicle came to a stop.there were no serious injuries, only headaches and bruising.the vehicle was towed to a garage by the police, but was later taken to a repair shop.a police report was filed.the mechanic stated that the computer in the vehicle was too unsophisticated; therefore, a diagnostic test could not be performed.through research, the contact discovered numerous complaints for the same type of defect.the vehicle is currently being repaired and she believes that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect.the current and failure mileages were 4,500. Updated 6/19/10 the consume stated she placed her foot on the brake to slow down when all of a sudden, the vehicle accelerated on its own.updated 07/22/10
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the rpms revved violently. When depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle jerked without warning. In addition, while driving at any speed, the vehicle surged forward continuously. The failures recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.
In 2008 i purchased a new 2007 kia spectra 5 sx , in november of that year i was returning home from a doctors appointment and had stopped at a stop sign, when my autos engine started to revving and moving forward while my foot was on the brake pedal, i pressed as hard as i could with my foot , but that did not stop the car from moving forward, the tires were spinning, i thenput my other foot on the brake pedal and pressed as hard as i could was able to shift the gear shift into neutral and that stopped moving forward, but the engine continued revving, i then was able to turn the ignition off.i let the car remain offfor about l5 seconds and turned the ignition on again the engine started to rev again, i had to turn engine off again, after about 15 seconds i turned the engine on and it was normal so i went home and made an appointment with my service provider to have the auto checked out for this problem. They could not find the problem. I called the manufacturer and spoke tocase manager (albert) who suggested i go to another kia dealer.i went to kia of bayside in great neck, n.y. (they are out of business now). They inspected the vehicle and could not locate the problem.the technician suggested that the cruise control module be disconnected, which he did , and told me to drive car for two weeks and come back to the shop. I returned to the shop on 1/20/09 ( i originally took car to bayside kia on 12/22/08) i told the tech that nothing happened during the 2 week period. He then called kia headquarters and requested that a new cruise control module be installed.the tech ordered the new module for the car and reconnected the old module. On 01/20/09, i had another episode with the car revving and moving forward and it also did the same thing in reverse, this was in pelham manor, n.y. Just across the bridge from where i live, 2 hours later i was at the bartow mall , in my neighborhood it happened again, it done this 4 more times kia refuses to do anything .
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited an abnormally loud revving noise. While driving 5 mph and attempting to park with the brakes applied, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a post.the contact was not injured.
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 80,921.
The contact owns 2007 kia spectra. The contact stated that while the engine idled with his foot on the brake pedal the rpms increased excessively. He was applying pressure to the brakes when the vehicle felt as if it was being pushed from the back and then moved forward approximately 5 feet. The manufacturer was contacted and will send a representative to the dealership to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was 7,000.
When stopped (for example at a stop sign), with the car in drive and the engine running, the engine will sometimes go from "idle"to a higher speed (it accelerates).my foot was not on the brake and gas pedals at the same time and this is not an issue with the floor mat.(i know because i looked.)
The contact owns a 2007 kia spectra.the contact stated that she was unaware that her vehicle did not come equipped with the cruise control feature until after the vehicle was purchased.the owner's manual mentioned that her vehicle has cruise control.the dealer stated that the vehicle does not come with the cruise control feature.the powertrain was unknown.there had been no failure to date.the approximate current mileage was 2,692.

2007 kia spectra windshield stress fracture, 45,000 miles. No impact. Dealer states not covered by warranty, must go to insurance company.crack is from top dead center and extends across vision field of both driver and passenger. Failure at less than 3 years old."korea safety glass".
On 04/12/2010 at 09:00 a.m. A 2007 kia spectra occupied by 4 adults and 3 children was rear ended by a pick up truck at a high rate of speed.corpus christi police investigated the crash and created crash report [xxx] .it appears that the rear impact from the collision caused both sun visor covers to be slung off the rods that attach to the ceiling of the car.both rods were then exposed and had the appearance of sharp tipped bayonetts.the driver of the kia was gored by the exposed rod on the driver side and suffered a life threatening head wound.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The rubber stripping that holds the windshield in place came loose while driving on the freeway.the rubber strip broke away from the glass and began slapping hard against the windshield.we had to tape the rubber in place for the remainder of the drive. The windshield cracked down the center from the rubber slapping against the glass and/or the rattling of the glass.since this is clearly a manufacturing defect, as well as a significant safety issue - we are requesting that kia take full responsibility to repair the damage caused to the vehicle.
