Air bag light is on and has been on for several months (12+). Passenger seat sensor is defective and would cost over $1600 to repair. After researching several other owners have the same issue and even some reported that all air bags have not gone off during an accident. Must be recalled immediately.
On january 31, 2014, i was driving home from work and was in a head-on collision. The other driver was at fault. The air bags in my 2006 kia spectra did not deploy! the police officer also documented this in the police report. I contacted kia on february 1, 2014 with photographs and the police report. It is now march 13, 2014 and they have not resolved the problem. I am concerned that there are other kia spectra owners who are unaware of this problem. There was never a recall about the air bags.
My brother was in a automotive accident. He lost control of his vehicle hit a concrete median, his brakes stop working and his air bags didn't deploy. This is all stated in his police report. He was air lifted to the hospital where doctors inform the family he broke both his legs and arms. He had to have an operation in his skull to relieve pressure in his brain. As of now nothing has been correct.
I was driving on hwy 40 e approaching exit 153 in heavy rainfall. Approximately 0.25 miles from the exit the truck already on the exit ahead of me began applying its brakes.pre-braking measures were taken. The wheels locked up and i collided with the truck in front of me and flew forward into the steering wheel. I had been braking the entire time, but my seat-belt did not lock into place. My airbag did not deploy. I suffered bruising, severe headaches, and minor cuts as a result. Insurance declared car as total loss.
Dealer states issue with airbag sensor mat on passenger side.same issue as recalled on the 2006 rio. A similar spec sensor mat is installed on the spectras as well and therefore a recall should be implemented on those models as well. Failure to recall these vehicles based on this issue could result in serious injury to passengers of vehicle if involved in an accident as the airbags would fail to deploy.
Car was struck on driver side rear quarter panel which resulted in the vehicle being spun in front of the dump truck which made the first impact.car was struck on several points of impacts including the driver side door, driver side rear door, and front quarter panel.the hardest impact being directly on the side door, with enough impact to completely push the door inside of the door frame of the vehicle.emt's statement described this to me when they were describing they had to use the jaws of life to free my wife from the drivers seat.no air bags deployed during this entire crash.this vehicle is equipped with 8 air bags of which three are on side impact specific on each side.
Air bag light warning light on the instrument panel came on, and mechanic diagnosed it as a faulty sensor in the front passenger seat (error code b1448 - ocs mat defective), and said that the bottom portion of the front passenger seat needed to be replaced (at a cost of $1,600). This is the same defect for which 06-08 kia rio's were recalled (nhtsa campaign number: 12v244000). The recall should be extended to include similar model year kia spectras - there are a similar number of nhtsa complaints regarding airbags for the 06 kia spectra as 06 kia rio. Problem was resolved by replacing the front passenger seat with one from an 04 kia spectra from an auto salvage yard.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra. While driving 35 mph, the contact's vehicle was struck on the passenger side door area and passenger side front end. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a laceration to the head, a bruised left shoulder, bruised ribs, and bleeding from the breast, which required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Drivers side airbag light stays on. Shop said it had to do with sensor under seat which is part of the recall in the rio. Cost almost $2000 to repair an kia won't over it. If something happens airbag won't deploy. The spectra should be part of the recall.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra.while driving 40 mph, the vehicle crashed into a ditch and flipped over.the air bags failed to deploy.the road conditions were rainy and muddy.the vehicle was destroyed.the dealer has not inspected the vehicle.the contact sustained neck and back injuries along with cuts and scratches.the current and failure mileages were 10,000.the consumer stated the vehicle was damaged in the front but the air bags did not deploy. Updated 09/05/07
The air bag warning light came on for the first time after very cold weather in january 2011.when weather warmed up in the spring, the light went out.january 2012 when it became cold again, the light came back on again.now the light is on 99% of the time.it rarely ever goes out....this is the same thing that is covered by the kia optima 2006-2008 recall 12v014000....updated 09/28/15

The contacts lawyer called the manufacturer and a forensic engineer who later determined that the air bags should have deployed. Both the failure and current mileages were unknown.updated 04/22/10received pictures. Updated 09/13/10
The passanger air bag sensor light went off and the air bag light went on and never went off.i am worried that if my car gets hit the passenger will get hurt possibility die.
Air bag warning light came on while driving. When occupant is seated in the occupant seat, "air bag warning off" light remains. A specialist diagnosed the occupant sensor as being defective, the same design and issue as in the 2006 kia rio and kia optima, both of which have been recalled for this same specific issue. The cost for repair is approx. $1600. A recall should be implemented for this issue on the 2006 kia spectra.
The contacts owns a 2006 kia spectra. The contact stated that the air bag indicator continued to illuminate even without a passenger in the passenger seat. The dealer could not duplicate the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. There were no recalls available. The failure mileage was 79,000.
I was t boned by a 3/4 truck and the side airbags did not deploy.
I was involved in an accident going north to cross an intersection. The other party failed to yield going southeast at the same intersection. I did hit their vehicle, dodge hemi ram 1500, head on their right side. The airbag failed to deploy when in fact according to experts, it should have for this type of accident. Not to mention this is the second collision this vehicle has been in and the airbag has never deployed. There was no sign of the airbag not working properly prior to the incidents. Due do this, i obtained a head and neck injury and the car was totaled.
I was driving a loaner car 2006 kia spectra when someone wasdriving an older model grand marquis turned infront of me and i hit her smack dab int he middle of her passenger side doors and our airbags did not deploy.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra. The contact stated that while driving, the passenger side air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where they stated that the occupant classification system mat was defective and needed to be repaired. The contact received an email regarding nhtsa campaign id number: 12v244000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module) however, the recall only pertained to the rio model and not the spectra model. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and confirmed to the contact that the vehicle was not eligible for repairs under warranty and that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 50,000.
This vehicle has numerous air bags, being t-boned by a semi truck at 30 mph none of the air bags deployed. There was approximately 5 inches of intrusion, as well the frame of vehicle between the doors was touching the driver seat, but none of the side impact air bags, or pelvic air bag deployed.
Passage side air bag light came on,took it to kia dealer they checked connections light when off for a few months, came back on had it checked again dealer tells me they were having problems with the sensor in the seat, but that the kia spectra was not part of a recall. The rio and sephiawere, the spectra took the place of the sephia, so why was this not recalled. This is still aproblem with this car changing the name did not fix the air bag sensor problem in the passenger seat. There has been numerous complaints and the issue has not been corrected.
The contact owns 2006 kia spectra. The contact stated that the air bag sensor failed and the warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the air bag sensor at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 100,000.
The airbag light in my daughter's 2006 kia spectra stays on. The passenger/occupant sensor mat is defective.this problem first appeared at 61,000 miles.the dealership says the repair will cost in excess of $2,000, so i cannot afford to have this fixed. Also, the brake switch is defective and only works intermittently. This prevents the brake lights from illuminating.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 45 mph the vehicle rear ended another vehicle that had stopped without warning.this was a full front to rear incident.there was pre impact braking, the wheels locked up on the vehicle causing it to skid into the rear of the stopped vehicle.the air bag did not deploy.seat belts were in use and no injuries were sustained.there was a police report filed at the scene.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair and is awaiting inspection.
Airbag light on, car failed state inspection. Caused by faulty sensor.

The failure mileage was 180,000. ...updated09/30/15
80,000 miles air bag warning light came on while driving. When occupant is seated in the occupant seat, "air bag warning off" light remains (even to this date 11/18/14). A kia specialist, in asheville, nc, diagnosed as wear and tear. Also, stated that it could be someone not sitting in the seat properly and/or over weight could cause it to go out. Seriously, no one in my car is over 190 lbs.the sensor isn't working and they said it would be $1800 to replace the seat and the sensor. Kia knows there are issues with the kia spectra 2006 just like the rios. Afterresearching on line and finding others have had the same issues with their kia's spectra 2006 airbag,it is obvious that kia has airbag issueswith the spectra 2006 which needs to be resolved.
Front passenger airbag is on all the time. Took car to dealer and was told it was code b1448 - ocs mat failed. Some type of sensor under passenger seat. Would cost $1,500 to replace. Kia corporate offered to pay for half of repair but technician said that there might still be problems with airbag system even after repair.(replaced front driver's seat about 18 months ago at same dealer for $600 because airbag light was on at that time too.) kia mechanic warned that because the passenger airbag light was on none of the airbags would now work. Therefore, see car as being unsafe to drive. Believe recall on airbag system is justified.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra. While driving approximately 45 mph, the driver attempted to move the vehicle into the left lane; however, another vehicle was in the lane. The driver quickly steered the vehicle back into the right lane; however, the vehicle spun out of control and turned over on the driver's side. The driver's and front passenger air bags failed to deploy. The driver and front passenger sustained bruises and cuts. The passenger also injured the left hand, which required stitches and medical attention. Police report number: 191201035 was filed. The vehicle was towed and not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was 162,307.
The contact owned a 2006 kia spectra. While driving 40 mph, the contact attempted to make a right turn; however, the contact lost control of the vehicle and it spun 360 degrees twice. The vehicle crashed into a tree. The contact also stated that the air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries that required stitches. When i first bought my car used everthing worked like it should!!!! 1. First thing went out was my clock on dashboard2. Back drivers sidebrake light will not work without replacing a new bulb every week3.window on rear passenger door will not roll up on passenger side the driver has to roll it up4.cd player plays when it wants to , sometimes i cant get cd out until its ready for it to come out 5. Driver side door has a leak somewhere cause when it rains my floor gets wet under the door6.airbag - the airbag light comes on when it wants to also7. Gas tank - most of the time you have to pull up on the handle a few times to even get the gas tank to openmy main concerns is :brake light not working airbagswindow i have childern that ride in my car and i want it to be as safe as possible
On the afternoon of the 25th day of may in the year 2006, my wife and myself were driving down i-5 sb to mamc for her hospital appt. We were then involved in a multi-car accident off next to the off ramp of exit 123. We tried to slow down in time before noticing the just wrecked vehicle in front of us and my abs in my 2006 kia spectra sx did not engage, my tires then locked up and i skidded and slid into the stopped vehicle. We hit them doing approx. 35-45 mph and smashed in the front of our car. At that time my airbags (both driver and passenger) did not deploy. There has been no corrective action from the time of the accident.
The air bag light came on in my daughters 2006 kia spectra at 112,000 miles. We are the second owner and have only had the car for 5 months at the time this occurred. .i paid $163.96 to diagnose the problem at the kia dealership. .i was told the error code was b1448 ocs mat defective. I was told the bottom portion of the front passenger seat needed to be replaced due to the faulty sensor at a cost of more than $1600.this is the same defect for which the 06-08 kia rios were recalled - nhtsa campaign no. 12v244000.this recall should be extended to include the similar model year kia spectras as there are numerous complaints found. I wrote 7 letters to kia corporate, i specifically wrote to their directors and those in higher management positions listed on their website.no one cared to respond back.the 1-800 number listed for consumer affairs closed my case and said that after the 5 years 60,000 miles the warranty is over and void and safety issues such as an air bag that doesn't deploy falls on the customer and is customer responsibility.my 17-year-old daughter drivers this car.we are the second owner and have had it for 5 months.i've been actively working to get this safety concern acknowledged by kia for a month and a half. Customer safety isn't a concern for them after the warranty is up. This is frightening. . they offered me $150 to go towards the cost of repairs. Huge disappointment in both the car and the company. Kia needs to make right on their vehicles.a lifesaving feature such as an airbag should not have an expiration date.this is not a matter of consumer maintenance.
Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 60 mph, the vehicle was involved in a side impact collision with another vehicle on normal road conditions.the passenger side airbag did not deploy.four occupants in the vehicle sustained minor to moderate seatbelt injuries.all the occupants were wearing their seatbelts.a police report was taken.there were no warning prior to the incident.the vehicle was towed to a storage lot.the manufacturer was notified and sent an inspector to investigate.the inspector determined that a copy of the investigation report could be released.
Air bag light on driver side turned on? it goes on and off sporadically, dealership wants unreasonable repair cost for such. I believe this is a defect in electrical warning system. A recall to repair should be issued. Kia customers are raising this issue and we are not being heard?do we have to wait for a tragic incident to have your organization do something about this?
- the contact stated that in her 2006 kia spectra the front passenger airbag light works intermittently.the speed of the vehicle was not a factor, neither was the weight of the passenger.the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer who ran the vehicle through diagnostic testing and concluded that the airbag worked.the dealer has told the contact there is nothing they can do. The failure mileage was 2800. Updated 03/02/07.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra.while driving 70 mph, the contact crashed into a rock.only the passenger front air bag deployed.the vehicle was towed to an auto body shop and the crash was reported to her insurance agency.the contact sustained minor bruises and cuts.the failure and current mileages were 70,000.updated 01-26-09 updated 01/26/09. 8jb
I had a near-frontal crash in my 2006 kia spectra in which the front airbag did not deploy. Speed at time of crash is estimated to be between 40-50 mph. The front-left part of my hood was struck by a turning vehicle. The airbag in the other vehicle did deploy.

My 2006 kia spectra hatchback wasparked in the driveway with the e-brake on, both front doors were open and the car was running, i sat in the car and closed the driver side door and the seat and side curtain airbags went off, hitting me.i contacted kia immediately to file a complaint, had the car towed to kia where they examined it.i told kia i wanted the car replaced, we just bought it in february of this year. The car is torn up inside from the air bags deploying and i'm afraid the system will malfunction again. On 11/12/07 they called and said that the computer registered that the car had been in a collision and therefore they will not make any repairs to the car. The car was not in an accident and does not have a dent on it plus i have a witness that was standing outside the opened passenger door when it happened.i'm afraid to put my children in this car for fear that the other air bags will deploy unexpectedly and injure or kill them.this has affected my hearing and my neck has been hurting, kia hasn't even called to see if i was ok. I'm calling a lawyer tomorrow morning but someone needs to investigate and run some tests while closing the doors.i am extremely disappointed in kia.they should not be allowed to conduct business if they are not willing to take responsibility for hazardous defects!

Problem is the check engine light came on/off and on again.fault codes were p0700 and p0748 as done at autozone. Some type of fault with the transaxle (p0700) orfailed transaxle control module/failed linear solenoid valve/open or short cicuit condition in the linear solenoid control.while driving the car shutters hardcar shifts fine when engine is cold. When engine warms up (after driving about 10 miles) while cruising in 4th gear, a lurch is felt from the drive train and the trans down shifts to 3rd gear. Shifting to neutral and back to drive doesn't help. The trans stays in 3rd gear. Shutting the car off and let it cool down and it is back to working normal again. Thinking about replacing the shift control module.fix link....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urut3t8uucwhttp://www.kia-forums.com/cerato-2003-2008-spectra5-2004/72381-2006-spectra-p0750-p0765-p0755-p0760-2.htmlthis needs to be recalled on all kia spectras please advise

The alternator on my 2006 kia spectra ex went out with warning and the call stalled on the highway. My cousin and i were stranded on the highway for 3.5 hours before help arrived.both of us were sunburned and i am a heart patient, who suffered from heat exhaustion and dehydration on this day.kia did not honor the 10 year or 100,000 warranty. My car only have 76,000 miles. Paid nearly $400 for a rebuilt alternator.caused great hardship and physical conditions over this issue.
From the 2nd day after purchasing the vehicle 6/27/2015 when i turned on a/c the car has been hesitating and stalling.every time i started and stopped at lights or stop signs. And even in traffic . Making the driving experience unsafe.and so ive been complaining ever since. They said if check engine light came on then i wont be responsible for the expense.however the check eng. Never came on.

The transmission keeps stalling and jolting the car, we cannot run the air conditioner and it only runs when in 3rd gear. There is definitely something wrong with the car and we don't even feel safe putting our children in the car, because it's not safe, and we cannot run the air conditioner without it stalling or jolting and not accelerating properly. We had the timing belt replaced in september 2018, we've had multiple oil changes and kept up with maintenance. However the problems have only gotten worse, our check engine light has been on since 02/2019 at least and we've put steering fluid in, but the problems keep getting worse. We can't run the air conditioner, our fuses keep blowing and i would like our car checked out and fixed.

I was driving my kia spectra 2006 knafe12166522xxxx and within 5 minutes of the engine light going on my engine died. I was stranded on the highway near clinton, nj. Kia refuses to honor the 10 year/100.000 mile warranty stating the reason is my fault due to lack of transmission fluid etc ???i have had to replace the brakes and tires on this car since i purchased it in jan 06. In an accident prior to this the air bag did not open.
My kia was bought 7/8/2006 and 8 weeks later the oil light came on while going up a hill i checked the oil and the dip stick didn't have a drop of oil on it.i rubbed my hand on it and there was nothing on my hand.this happened on 09/04/2006(labor day).the car lot was closed so i went to buy oil i put 1 quart in it still showed no oil, the 2nd quart made it reach the dip stick.the oil light never stayed on, which was a problem also.i took the car in the next day and found out the rear main seal was broken and oil was leaking out extremely bad.this car only has 2200 miles on it.when you buy a brand new car off the showroom floor you expect not to have these major problems.i personally think they should have given me another car.because whose to say that this hasn't caused other problems.i am very dissatisfied.i will never buy another kia.i can't trade it in because i will loose money.
I have had to replace the head lamps on my 2006 kia spectra multiple times since it's purchase in 2006 but recently the drivers side tail light went out and i replaced the bulb and a week or so later my neighbor told me the passenger side tail light was out so when i proceeded to change the bulb like i did with the other, i couldn't get it to come out, it appeared to be fused to the plastic casing...when i finally got it out and replaced the bulb i went to turn the car on to check that it lit up i noticed that the dashboard lights had gone out and the passengerside parking light...i have replaced all the bulbs and all the appropriate fuses. I can not imagine i am the first to have this issue.
I have a kia spectra 2006 which i have to keep replacing the headlights every three to four months. This issue began about three years ago when i had over 100,000 miles in my vehicle. I can't figure out why the headlights would burn so often.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra lx. The contact stated that after the vehicle was refueled, he heard a popping and dragging noise and found that one of the fuel tank straps had failed due to corrosion. The manufacturer would not assist with the repairs, stating that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 11v256000 (fuel system, other: storage: tank assembly: mounting). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 99,334.
About the end of march i noticed my car was leaking gas. I haven't been able to afford to get it fixed but its getting worse and worse. I never hit anything so i don't understand how thing could've happened. I was informed that there is a recall on kia spectra fuel systems but my car is not covered. It would be nice to figure out why it isn't.
Called the dealership of where i bought my kia at, couldnt get a hold of them to set an appointment to go into the dealership to get the service done. I received a letter on june 6th, of 2011, and need to know what to do about this situation, and or to still to take it in? or... Im not sure on how to handle this situation.
I drove my 2006 kia spectra to work 8:45 am parked.at 6pm i got into my car to come home and as i was pulling out heard scraping noise under the car.i pulled back into parking space & got out to look under my car; bothmetal straps that secure the gas tank were rusted through and scraping on the ground. My gas tank was hanging to the side nothing was holding the gas tank to the car at this point but the fuel line.
One of the vehicles fuel tank mounting straps has rusted into and dragging the pavement. This would cause a possible accident, fire and or explosion if tank had hit the pavement and rubbed hole in the tank. The vehicle has no other rust on undercarriage. Said vehicle has 92,893 miles on it and is a 2006 model year. I believe straps are made of poor quality metal as there are no other rust issues with said vehicle! i think that this a safety hazard and there should be a recall for this problem. I called a kia dealer and he told me that there was a recall on some kia's in the north for the same problem but said there was no recall for my vehicle. If they knew of the problem they should have recalled all of them!
2006 kia spectra when driving down the road the gas tank straps broke off and let the gas tank fall on the road. The straps rusted off. The car is only 4 years old.the tank hit on the road and broke open spilling gas on road. Contacted kia dealer i was informed that it is not their problem.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra. The contact stated the fuel tank straps were excessively corroded causing the right side straps to fracture. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v256000 (fuel system, other). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and declined to answer why the vehicle was not included in the recall campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,055.
I was pumping gas into my 2006 kia spectra and heard a metal pop and thought someone ran over something. As i was driving i was hearing something drag under my car. When i pulled over it turned out to be the gas tank strap was super rusted and had busted. The other is rusted too. So i look online to find replacement straps and find a recall (nhtsa campaign no : 11v256000) detailing that the gas tank straps are liable to rust and come off if they were in any northern states which use heavy amounts of road salt. So i call kia and they say my model though it is a 2006 kia spectra is not eligible for the replacement. I ask for case to be opened. After them telling me to go get a diagnostic from dealership and 6 days later they decline me for any more consideration. So i have a car with one broken gas tank strap and other is just as rusted and the gas tank could fall off and catch on fire causing me and/or other people behind me to catch fire. If this isn't a safety hazard i don't know what is. The gas tank straps should have gotten so rusty for such a new car. I'm in tennessee and the car had an owner in wisconsin who put the most miles on it.
I was approaching germantown avenue from mt. Airy avenue with the expectation of making a right hand turn on to germantown avenue when the car accelerated without warning. I gripped the wheel and tried to recover control of the car andwas successful within inches of a vehicle turning onto mt. Airy avenue.the accelerator took control of my car (and me).i recovered control of my car.later in the day while driving the same event happened with the exception of the fact that i was not in a "turn mode"
Takata recall, the gas tank on my 2006 spectra is leaking fuel, the car is stationary.
After a minor accident where the car went in the ditch off the road the car caught fire and became rapidly engulfed in flames. What should have been a minor accident turned into a near fatality because of an aggressive fire. The driver had a medical emergency when pulling out of the driveway. The car crossed the road and entered the ditch directly across the driveway entrance. This should have been a walk away accident with minor or no damage to the car, but it burst into flames. The driver was able to get out of the car before burning to death and thankfully there were no other passengers. We had the car only a few weeks and do not have any knowledge of recalls being repaired.
I was driving to work and began to hear a scraping noise.when i got to work i looked under my car and noticed that one of the fuel tank straps had rusted through and snapped.i looked online to order a new one and found a website saying that there was a recall for this exact issue.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra. While driving approximately 35 mph over a pothole, the vehicle stalled and would not restart. The contact called a family member who recommended the fuel shut off valve and the vehicle started again. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra. While parked the contact stated his child applied the safety lock to the trunk of the vehicle. After the safety lock was applied the trunk would not open electronically. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra. The contact stated that the door handles were inoperable. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic who stated that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The door handles were replaced however, the engine was not repaired nor replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. *ln
Upon entering the highway, the transmission seemed to lag. I could not go over 50 mph. And oncoming traffic including an 18 wheeler seemed to almost stop or i would have been killed! this problem has developed over the last year where the car gets stuck in 3rd gear and acceleration is poor or the transmission does not change gears. If it sits for a while it has an engine light on and still acts up for a while then finally goes back to working correctly. The problem today was the first life threatening incident and therefore i believe it is a recall! this problem has been reported for 5 model years affected: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, more! this is life threatening and needs to be a recall as it has been found as a software update but others on line say there is a soldering problem in the transmission. This should not be something the public should be spending money on when it is a failure due to manufacture or a software glitch or both!
I was waiting at a red light, when the engine started to speed up and the car started to pull forward even with me stepping harder on the brake. I put the car in neutral and the revving slowed down. This happened a few more times, including while trying to park at a mall. Luckily i was able to avoid and accident by shifting to neutral every time the car surged.this is a rental car, not my car.

2006 kia spectra.consumer writes in regards to transmission, steering and vehicle tie rod assembly issues.the consumer was informed the shifting panel needed to replaced.
The seat belt buckle housing fell apart and with it, the inner workings of the buckle stopped working. No abuse or misuse was involved. We got into the car one day, buckled the buckle and the housing fell apart. It would still buckle for a few days, then all of a sudden it won't accept the seat belt anymore so we had to replace the buckle with a used part from a junk yard. I've read this with a lot of kia spectras, and it should be recalled.
The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 11v256000 (fuel system, other). The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The check engine and brake warning lights were illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the recall and failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 116,000.

The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra.while driving approximately 15 mph, the contact noticed that the rpm's would increase rapidly when attempting to decelerate.she had to continually apply pressure to the brakes in order for the vehicle to completely stop.occasionally, while the vehicle was idling, it would drift while the brake pedal was depressed.the vehicle was towed to a local dealer and they replaced the ecu.the powertrain was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 14,000.
Dt*:the contact stated while approaching a stop driving 15 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle.the brake pedal was depressed, let off and pressed again, the vehicle then surged forward, and this caused a rear end collision.seatbelts were in use and no injuries were sustained.there was no police on scene and a report was not filed.the vehicle was taken to dealer; upon inspection the dealer could not duplicate the problem.
I was coming to a stop, depressing my brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor, failing to stop my car.i pressed the brake pedal again, the car jumped forward and then came to a stop.this happened twice today, neither time causing an accident, but came close to hitting a house and a gas station.
I was drivingon the interstate doing about 65 mph both times this occurred when therear brakes locked and thecar came to a stop on the highway. Smoke was pouring out from my left rear tire, and when the tow truck driver showed up it took him a good 15 minutes to get the brakes unstuck.
Dt*: the contact stated while attempting to depress the brake pedal, the accelerator pedal was depressed as well.this had occurred twice.the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined the vehicle performed as designed.updated 02/12/07.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra.while driving 65 mph, the vehicle vibrated.the dealer stated on four to five occasions, that the vehicle was repaired; however, they failed to state what was repaired and did not provide an invoice.the dealer also stated that the vibration in the steering wheel caused the front driver and passenger tires to wear at 10,000 miles.the tires need to be replaced due to five thirty seconds of tread remaining on the tires.the normal mileage for replacement of the tires should not be before 40,000 miles.the owner's manual stated that the tires should be rotated at 7,500 miles.the dealer also stated that the tires were not the cause of the failure.the fuel type was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 4,550.

On march 10, 2007, at approximately 4:45 pm, my wife and i witnessed a single car accident on red bluff between kirby and bay area blvd in pasadena texas.the vehicle was wildly out of control and eventually landed upside down in a ditch on the left had side of the road.the driver said the car went "crazy."i examined the car and noticed the left tie rod end was sheared off where it enters the tie rod itself.the left strut was also ripped out of the body of the car.it is my opinion, therod was sheared when the car hit a pot hole or the left curb.the driver lost control and was very lucky to escape with bumps and bruises.the vehicle was a kia. I did not ask the year or model, but i think it was a spectra.
On march 2, 2007, while driving my 2006 kia spectra-5 at high speed on the interstate, the front windshield molding blew out of the track on the drivers side. I came close to having an accident because it scared me beyond words. I reported it to the dealer. The dealer ordered and replaced the molding with new parts. The dealership personnel stated that this was not the first car they had replaced this molding on. Last week, april 8, 2007 the windshield molding popped out again. This time on both sides of the windshield. The molding is still in place along the top of the windshield. The dealer has been notified. The dealer has ordered a new part. I expect to have my car repaired again next week.
I got a new car last week.. Had all the brakes and fluids, etc. Checked and fixed. Picked it up friday. Drove to work then was leaving work when my foot got stuck between the gas and brake couldn't get it out when i hit a truck it came loose. I very lucky to be alive. I have marks on top and the side of my foot. I really think it should be looked into because the brake and gas are way to close together.
Their is standing water inside the dash i believe. You can smell stagnate water . On warm days car will steam up on inside of windows. You can also hear it moving around. Seems to be quite a bit of water.

Within 2 months of each other, both (left and right) rear door handles broke upon attempting to open the door using normal force.the door handles came off the car and the rear doors can not be opened from the outside
Vehicle was purchased brand new from dealer in 2/06, brought regularly to dealer for any and all warranty/maintenancework.this year vehicle was brought to dealer because at times when the brakewere applied the vehicle lurchedforward and soundedas if the gas was being applied at the same time.dealer assured this was the abs kicking in , and all was well.the second time this occurred the vehicle in front of ours was hit, and accident report was filed.there was no property damage. The vehicle was again returned to the dealer because the paint was coming off the car below both rear doors on both sides, we were told this was due to salt and sand.however there was no other part of the vehicle effected, and we saw that on the 2007 spectra there has been a guard added to ensure that this did not occur on the 2007 spectra. However wewere told that the warranty did not apply because we lived in a salt and sand state. Therefore, even though the car waswashed weekly, in less than a year ,it will simply continue to rust and we have no recourse.
The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra.the contact stated that if the curb was higher than the front bumper, the front bumper could possibly fall off if it hit the curb.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure.the current and failure mileages were 13,000.

The contact owns a 2006 kia spectra. The contact stated while making a left turn the front end made a popping noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test that located the failure as the drivers side front struts. The dealer tightened the front strut, but the repair did not correct the failure. The vehicle continued to make a popping noise while making a left turn. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 59,896 and the current mileage was 97,426.

Defective locking system on driver side door. Had it replaced/repaired in nov of 2014 and again nov of 2015 and the problem has occurred again october of this year and the service department wanted me to pay again to fix the same problem. I said no. Already paid for this repair and it has been a problem with 15 models of kia vehiclesfrom 2001-2004 and more.
