My kia soul was manufactured 11/16 & has 8,643 miles on it as 10/8/19. I started my car the morning of 10/719 & the air bag and electronic stability control indicator lights went on and will not go off. This morning the passenger's seat belt light was flashing also. Are there any recalls on these items for my vehicle?
I was in a head on collision wearing my seat belt and hit my head on the sun visor and edge of windshield. Basically scalping me. The air bag deployed yes but after i was bleeding and reaching to undo my seatbelt. Hitting my hand which broke my wrist having to have surgery to put a plate and pins in it. Also hitting me in the chest so hard it knocke the breath out of me. It was smoking really bad too like it was going to catch fire.
Takata recallmy airbags never deployed, the brakes never took effect to make me slide skid or stop. Seatbeat never held me back from slamming into steering wheel.

On 10/23/2020 i was in a front end collision with a 2017 jeep wrangler and the air bags in my soul did not deploy. My soul is a total loss, due to frame damage.
This is the second time that the air bags have not gone off in a crash on this car the first crash was at 55 mph head on and they didnt go offand the sensors were hit and damaged. Today the car was in another head on crash with injury to the driver and the air bags failed to deploy again this is a major concern as to my wife and i could have been killed due to faulty air bags . In both crashes the vechile was in motion.i will be taken pictures of the car tomorrow. Someone could have died in this crash.
My vehicle has the speaker lights package... For the past few months, i have noticed that when im driving my speaker lights will sometimes flash even with the switch set to off. Other times it will cycle through the mood setting...again while the switch is off. Some times it will do both...mood lighting and flashing to beat of the music...while swtiched to off. On 2/6/2021, i brought my car in for servicing. I mentioned the issue to my service advisor. Told me they would look at it...cool. I'm okay with that. I leave, then come back to check the status of my car. Tells me they can't reproduce the issue. Ha! i have a video...i show it to the service advisor who tells me to go wait in the lobby and he'll be right back. About 30 minutes pass, my car is done. He tells me that they still can't make it do what i showed him. I'm guessing a video isn't real proof there is a real electrical issue going on. The service advisor tells me to "swing by" when it happens. Mind you i live about an hour away, i only went to friendly kia because i was told they were good. Apparently not! anyway, there is an issue kia is refusing to address. I'm guessing no one there knows what would happen if a kia vehicle were to catch fire due to a short in the system just days after having it in due to an issue with the speaker lights having a short. That would not look good being told all over the media, then in court when that person sues you for damages due to an issue you refused to correct with video proof...about 20 seconds of proof that there is an issue!
The front door on the drivers side doesn't latch or lock completely when the door is closed/shut from inside. Many times when exiting the vehicle from the drivers seat i discover the door hadn't been latched at all because i can open the door without using the door handle, it will open with a slight push from my arm. I worry the door will open when it's moving causing an accident and injuries from falling out of the vehicle. A second safety issue with my kia soul is the hesitation and slowness of acceleration when entering the freeway and merging into traffic. With the gas pedal pressed to the floor, a safe speed can't be attained for 2-3 minutes causing other vehicles to slam on their brakes, reduce speed or change lanes to avoid hitting the back or side of my vehicle. This is the reason i no longer drive on the freeway and take the long route instead. Thirdly, when backing out of a parking spot, the backup camera fails to engage about a quarter of the time and i must rely solely on sideview and rearview mirrors. Incidents occurred from a dead stop up to 50 miles per hour.
While car was in motion backing in my driveway, i was able to pull drivers handle while lock engaged and door opened while vehicle was still moving. Although i planned on opening the door as car came to a rest i was surprised how easy it was to open while car is moving, and door had done so prematurely then i expected. Concerned i tested while driving forward like 20 mph & door opens when grabbing on handle. My concern is while the vehicle is in motion one should be required to manually unlock any door before it opens. I addressed with my kia dealer and they told me this is normal that opening handle overides the lock. This would make sense to do when car is parked, not when the transmission is engaged. I have 2004 saturn and mine doesnt do that. I understand door/lock features can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I can see a benefit to the handle overide feature that people could be in panic in case of fire or other danger that all they think about is the handle and stay trapped because they forget about the lock. The consumer should be allowed to decide if this is a feature they want enabled or not. Kia has told me there is nothing i can do. I feel this is a big safety concern since all you have to do is barely grab handle and door releases; dont need to pull handle all the way.if nothing else it should release after 5-10 seconds of continuous pressure while handle is in maxed out opening position to open door while transmission is in any gear other than park. And if nothing else, only the drivers door should be able to open while cars in motion while pulling on handle. Front passenger door tested and does same thing. Kia says only the rear doors should stay secure with child locks, i disagree! had another time when i was gonna be dropped off as a passenger and planned on openening door, it flew wide-open when turning in driveway and almost damaged 2 cars!
My kia was driving normally until i stopped at a red light at a busy intersection. When the light turned green, without warning, the oil and battery light simultaneously came on and the car stalled. I eventually was able to get the car to move; however the car would not accelerate and a horrible knocking noise was coming from the driver's side. My vehicle travelled another 100 feet before shutting off again. No check engine light present.i had it towed to stokes kia in goose creek sc, where i was informed that my engine threw a rod, and would cost nearly $8,000 to replace. I've had my kia for less than a year, and conveniently enough, my warranty just expired by a few hundred miles, and i still owe $9,000 on the loan i took out for the car. It is outrageous this vehicle hasn't been recalled yet; it's only a matter of time before someone become a fatality while driving down a highway when their engine crashes on them.
Rear camera stays on when driving forward. This has happened about 5 times over the past year, while 7000 miles were driven.i have to stop the car, go in to park, then drive, sometimes more than once, for the camera to switch off, regular display to light up.

I was headed to a family bbq on memorial day in my 2017 kia soul that i have had about 2 years and is a certified pre-owned vehicle and did not notice any abnormalities or sounds prior to the incident. I went to partk and noticed that my check engine light popped on but thought nothing of it as my gas cap lock was broken and so i turned off the vehicle. I want to note there was no sounds, and no over heating. That evening i went to leave and the car would not turn over and thought maybe the battery was bad, but was reminded that it was replaced one week prior. So i had it towed in the next day to a mechanic and upon initial inspection he found that the engine had siezed and locked up as well as it would not turn over. I'm pretty good about personally completing oil changes, but was sharing vehicle with my ex partner and was told that the oil came up 2 quarts short upon checking, but was told that should not be enough to make the engine seize. So the mechanic replaced the starter and upon turning over the vehicle the engine began to produce a bad knock and i was told that the engine was needing to be replaced and was going to lock up again if driven. The vehicle is at 70,000 miles so is no longer covered under the factory warranty and the extended warranty may not cover it so i'm at a lose at the moment. I find it really hard to believe that after all the research i've done on this engine problem and seeing all the people with the same situation occurring that a recall has not been issued on this year.
While in motion on the highway i experience engine failure. I was told that my engine threw a rod and punctured a hole in my engine.
My kia soul did not have any warning lights on or strange sounds/issues when i began driving on the highway on 6/5/21 with my 12 year old special needs son. A short time after we entered the highway i began to notice a strange knocking sound and it felt like the car was struggling to maintain speed. Within a few seconds i started to smell a "hot" smell and immediately pulled over to the side of a two lane highway with a very small shoulder. When i pulled over the knocking became very loud and then all of the warning lights on the dash flashed on and then the car died. We were stranded on the side of the road in the middle of no where while trucks and cars flew by at high rates of speed. It was also incredibly hot and the car was not functioning to be able to roll down windows. I was able to use roadside assistance through my insurance company and it was towed to a local repair shop. I was told that the engine was blown and my engine had "thrown" internal parts. They said the engine was completely dead and needed replaced. They also stated that they have seen this issue a lot with kia soul's especially 2015-2017 models. In fact the owner said as soon as he heard what the car was he knew it was going to be engine failure. I am very lucky that i was able to pull over to the small shoulder before the car died or i would have been stuck in the middle of the road right after a hill and my car would have been impossible to see stopped by drivers coming over the hill before it would have been hit. This has also caused my special needs son to become extremely panicked in the car and afraid to drive with me. After a quick google search i was able to find complaint after complaint after complaint about this issue with the 2017 kia soul at around 70-80,000 miles which is exactly where i am at. I know owe a great deal of money on a car that is totaled out unless i spend over $6,000 to replace the engine. Money that i do not have after losing my job due to covid.
At 91k miles, the engine blew. At 84k miles the catalytic converter was condemned.
Engine- 2017 kia soul 2.0 l 4-cyl. Mileage at the time of purchase 42,788. Mileage at failure was 89,144. Usage predominately hwy miles. At the time of failure, we owned the vehicle 19 months. Regular oil changes with castrol gtx and edge 100% synthetic 5w20 oil. February 02, 2020 my wife started the day driving away from home. The outside temperature in the 60's and sunny. Drove 4.5 miles traveling 45mph on a straight level city roadway in heavy traffic. She could have been rear-ended or when turning off the roadway with loss of power t-boned trying to exit the roadway in an emergency. There is no breakdown lane or enough ground on the side of the roadway to pull off. All of a sudden, for no reason, the engine lost power and made a knocking sound. She checked the instrument panel, no warning lights. Temperature gauge read normal. Within seconds, she pulled into a parking lot and turned off the motor. No visible signs of any damage on the exterior of the motor or underneath the vehicle. We are the second owner of this vehicle. Manufactures initial transferable warranty expired. We towed the vehicle to our regular ase certified mechanic. They determined the issue to be a rod knock. Further diagnosis determined from a compression test the #2 cylinder is at 80#'s compression the other three at 150#'s. I have read your report regarding the ongoing investigation into kia's motor failures. I believe this motor should be included in the investigation although both vin searches turned up no recall on my vehicle. We are currently trying to get the local dealer to work on the vehicle and they want to charge a minimum fee of 1500-1600 to tear the motor down and complete an investigation into why the motor failed. We have an aftermarket warranty program and they are trying to find a way not to pay for any claim on this issue. Our dilemma is ongoing at the time of this complaint.
Without any warning, there began a clunking sound coming from under the hood of my vehicle while i operated it on the highway at highway speeds.all of a sudden, the car could not accelerate or maintain speed, and began losing speed quickly.i was lucky there was no one behind me, because the car slowed down so rapidly i almost didnā€™t make it to the brake down lane. My car was brought to my mechanic and it was diagnosed with a broken rod, even though there has been detailed and documented maintenance preformed in the vehicle. My mechanic said that there is no reason for the piston to have broken like that especially when there was no operator negligence.
When cranking my vehicle on monday evening, 12/14, approximately 40 degrees outside, i noticed a noise after initial startup that sounds like when you put a card or a soda can on the tire of your bike. The noise didn't continue so i drove it home, approximately 17 miles from where it was parked initially. I didn't hear it on the drive home, until i rolled down my window slightly as i came to a stop light, and it was making the same ticking noise, but much louder, and especially when i began to accelerate. I immediately called my fiance, and when i pulled into the driveway he immediately requested i turn off the vehicle. Pulled the oil stick, and noted that it was almost bone dry. Which is crazy because we perform routine maintenance on my car, as it's the daily driver for my 7 year old and myself. The last oil change was roughly end of september. He put oil in it, and hoped it would stop the noise, but it didn't. After having it evaluated, we're told it will need a new motor. I called kia, and even though the previous year models 2012-16 all have these same exact issues, they will not fix the motor, since there isn't a recall issued for my year model yet. This is so concerning, as my car is only 3 years old, and it has been taken such good care of.

The contact was informed that there was loss of compression on cylinder #3. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

My car feels like it steers sideways down the road,it bounces,hard to control,it loses power in 3rd gear,the brakes don't work well at all,engine pings loudly constantly.i took my car to carfax in modesto california whom i purchased from and they couldn't find anything wrong,th s ir lieing,living, car was wrecked and painted over ,its full of over spray,the car is dangerous to drive,i want it replaced with a new kiasoul
Oil light came on, checked oil and it was low. Added oil. The next day the car loss complete power and stalled on the side of the road. Engine made a loud sound and stopped. Had the vehicle towed to our dealer and was told the lower part of the engine blowed at 82,509 miles. Regular maintenance was done at a dealership in our town. Extended warranty that was purchased had went out 1000 miles back and now we are told the regular power train warranty doesn't cover because we were the 2nd owner. We were told about $9000 to fix the car. I have contacted kia and because they dont have any issues with this vin# they can't help. Even though when you google engine problems with this year there are plenty of complaint all over the internet. If these cars are giving so much trouble, why isn't there something they can do. I work with 2 people that own kia's of other models and had the same problem and their motor was replace free of charge. I need help, please. We front have the money to replace the motor and my daughter still owes over $9000 on this car.
Oil light came on and engine started knocking, then car shut off in the middle of the highway
Driver was on freeway when car lost acceleration. Driver pulled over at first exit when the dash flashed various lights and shut down. Driver attempted to start the car but was unable to do so -- there was smoking from the engine so driver had the vehicle towed to shop. It was determined that the engine failed catastrophically and would require an engine replacement.
The car engine stopped running while traveling in traffic, steering and braking effected, quickly rolled to a stop.engine totally and quickly lost all power.high pressure fuel pump found to have broken by kia dealer, and replaced.
So even since i have had the car it sometimes would hesitate when i would accelerate and i would sometimes feel like i was pressing the gas and getting little to no actual response from the vehicle. Then a few days ago my engine blew with no warning sign, my oil and coolant were empty even though i know all my fluids were fine. I do commute to work and i know that's harder on a vehicle but none of my other cars which have all been older models have ever given me an issue like what happened to me with this one. Seems odd if anything. When i was starting up my car leaving work it just randomly started with the noises and then the entire way home it got worse i did not drive it after that i tried everything to get it to the dealership however it had to be towed there. I noticed a bunch of fluid coming out on my parking lot when we got it moved, not sure what caused any of this or how my engine blew.
Something is knocking or ticking in the motor feels like under my feet of drivers floor board. Have kept regular oil changes nd it started off by spitting and sputtering when i would come to a stop to now ticking. Went to start it the next morning to go too work and it sounded awful so i didnt drive it. Now when i start it the battery light is on and check engine light is on and it will start for about 3 sec an shuts off.
My 2017 kia showed no signs of problems until i was driving to store on state road 9 going 40 mph and while in drive in died out on me. I turned the key over a few times. It finally caught and started. I continued home and it did this again. Only the oil light came on. I got it started and moved off the road and had it towed to my mothers. When i tried to start it again it wouldnt start. My step father looked at it and the piston had flown it to the spark plug. And i was told my moter was blown.
While at work, driving, and in acceleration, the engine would start knocking.on my way home, the knocking got louder. Half way home, the engine stalled out on a major highway and i had to coast the vehicle through en exit ramp to stop on a service road.fluid was found leaking from under the vehicle.having put the vehicle in a service shop, the mechanic advised that the rod blew a hole straight through the engine block.said it was more likely from the engine overheating, but would not be officially certain.mechanic later pulled me aside and informed me that kia had been having major problems with their engines blowing.he also advised me there was a recall situation going on, but couldn't be certain whether my vehicle was or would be included in that.
Engine locked, couldn't start
I was waiting in the drive-thru of fast food restaurant, when my oil light started to flicker then came on solid. This is the first time the oil light had ever come on. I drove directly across the street to a gas station and shut the car off. I checked the oil level, but no oil registered on the dip stick. I added 2 quarts of oil, it now registered almost full and drove it home (approx. 1 mile). When i got home i noticed the engine was knocking. The next day i changedthe oil adding one quart of lucas oil additive. The knocking did not go away and i now noticed steam coming out of my tail pipe when i was letting the engine warm up. I left my car parked in my driveway for fear of doing further damage to the engine. A few months later (when i was in a better financial position), i had my car towed to kia of riverside, where they said they would start a case with kia motors to run tests to determine if they would cover the failure. I had the car towed on 6/23/20. On 7/15/20, the kia dealership told me kia motors would not cover the repair because i was the second owner and it had 69k miles. I bought it with approx 33k miles. They say i need a new motor at a cost of over $6,600. For the record, i give my car regular oil changes and there are no external signs of an oil leak anywhere on the engine. At this time my car is still at the dealership and i have not yet seen the official diagnosis.
Engine failure due to same issue the 2016 soul has a recall for. Traveling on highway with a sudden loss of acceleration followed by power steering loss. Was able to get off highway but it took pressing hard on brakes and pulling e-brake to get the vehicle stopped. Service center says it's the same problem found in 2016 soul but kia won't approve claims for 2017 soul as they aren't officially part of recall.
The car's oil pressure light started blinking while driving on the highway. The vehicle stalled at a nearby gas station, and no oil was present on the dipstick. The car was less than 1,500 miles off of an oil change, and had oil present on the dipstick before the incident.after filling the car back up with oil a knock was present, and no check engine light was shown.the car was towed to a dealer who claimed it was a rod bearing.
Beautiful morning only 72 at the time been driving for only about 15 mins. Pressed the gas and the car didn't do anything . I took myfoot off and tried again this time i heard a shattering of glass? in the engine and the knocking started. I only drive it a block before i stopped and turned the vehicle off. Opened the hood checked the oil and it was empty. Nothing dripping under the car no smokeexcept from the area you add oil. Added oil tried again started still knocking towed it to the mechanic. I was told i have to replace or rebuild the engine. Like many i still have a loan payment and the cost of the repair is more than the cost of the note.asked from help from insurance its not covered. Asked for help from the service department at the dealer they offered to sale me a new vehicle.talking to an attorney now. There were no indications that there was anything wrong with the car and the engine is blown??? with correct maintenance.
At 75k miles the engine failed on my 2017 kia soul. Specifically,it threw a rod. The car was sold to me as a certified used car, that being the dealer said there was nothing wrong with the car. I took the car into gossett kia in memphis, where i purchased the car for an oil change.i was called later and told the engine was knocking. The service writer told me, "do not worry about this. It is a known problem with the 2016 amd 2017 kia soul and your car is under warranty." kia told me the car was not under warranty because i chose to drive for a ride share company and that voided the warranty. The problem is they sold me a car as certified when they knew about the engine failure issue.
With no warning my car completely stopped working, no engine light ever came on, my oil changes were up-to-date, and it was diagnosed with rod knock which is what everybody else on here is saying. How is there not already a recall on this year???

Purchased this car used with 16k miles in sept 2018. Stopped at an intersection and when trying to pull out the engine would not respond to the gas pedal. Engine remained at an idle even after flooring the gas pedal several times. Almost got hit!! i recycled the key several times and finally it worked. I took to the dealer and got the " no problem found " now i experience a rough idle and a strange feeling in the brake pedal when braking. Today i started the car and the engine would not go over 3000 rpms. Cycled the key and it was ok. I'm afraid to drive this car for fear it may kill me! please help.
I was driving down the highway about 65 when i heard a loud knocking noise coming from the motor. No check engine light no over heating nothing. Loud knock car goes dead.i've only had this car for 1yr. Got it at 52.000 miles is now at 84.000. Still under kia 100.000 mile warranty. But they won't cover it . And there main thing is i put 30.000. Miles on it. I have kids. I travel. Kept up on oil changes everything

My son bought a 2017 kia soul less than a year ago with about 57,000 miles. On tuesday oct 11, 2020 the car kept stalling when driving and then wouldn't start. Also, the oil pressure light kept flashing so he checked the oil. He had the oil previously changed on aug 29, 2020. The dipstick came up empty. He added oil and when he drove it to firestone auto repair shop, the oil light flashed every time the car stopped at a light. Firestone first said nothing was wrong. He left there only to find it doing the same thing. It stalled when he was making a turn onto a busy road. He took it back to firestone where the diagnostic finally said it was a bad oil pump. They suggested to him to take it to kia because it would need a new engine. Ford/kia said the engine is blown and it is not under warranty because he is the second owner. The warranty for the second owner ends at 60,000 miles and this car now has 68,000 miles.
Without warning indicators, my car lost power while i was driving it on a busy highway. I was able to coast onto an exit and a friend towed it to a safe area. I discovered there was no oil in the engine, even though i had had a recent oil change and no indicator on the car showed a problem with oil pressure, excessive heat, etc. I added oil and drove it a few feet to a secure location, but heard engine knocking. I called a mechanic, who inspected it and confirmed that a rod was thrown and the engine would need to be replaced. He is sourcing the replacement currently. This is a 2017 kia soul, 2.0 engine.

Extremely disheartening i'm 23 y/o single mother. Now with a broken car. 16000 in debt for a year and half worth of driving less than 80000 on odometer jeeeshhh kia . Hopefully we get recall soon
My engine shut off while i was stopped at a railroad crossing, on an incline. I had my foot on the brake when it happened. Once the train passed, i let my foot off the brake, and the engine shut off without a warning or indication. The car proceeded to roll backwards into traffic. I turned on my emergency lights on, put the car in park, and tried to restart the vehicle. It took a minute or so before i was able to restart the car. The same problem happened 3 days later - i was just about to make my turn out of a parking lot into a major street. I made a stop to make sure the road was clear. I took my foot off the brake and hit the accelerator and the engine shut off. I had to put my car in park to restart the engine again.
Mileage 75,000 and the engine threw a rod through the bottom of the engine block and through the oil pan.i purchased the car with about 22,000 miles.i've driven the car less than 2 years and have put about 50,000 miles on it.i have maintained the vehicle according to manufacturer specifications with regular oil changes every 5000 miles.i have never had the check engine or oil lights come on since i've owned the vehicle.while driving on the interstate about 80 mph with the cruise control on, the car struggled and felt like it was going to stall out, like it wasn't getting gas or the alternator was failing.the check engine and oil light came on and smoke was billowing from under the hood.i had to drive for about half a mile or so to the nearest emergency pull off and turned off the car.when i was finally brave enough to pop the hood, there was oil sprayed all over the engine bay, a small puddle on the ground, and no oil in the engine.i had it towed to my local garage and was told that the engine blew the connector rod out of the engine block and through the oil pan.my vehicle has not been recalled for this issue but there has been a recall on 2012-16 kia soul for the exact same problem.it cannot be a coincidence that my vehicle has this problem as well.my local kia dealership has said i can bring it in, pay the $100 diagnostics fee, and they'll decide if it can be covered since the warranty has lapsed.since i am the second owner, i do not have the 100,000 mile 10 year warranty.the warranty is reduced to 3 years 60,000 from the original (first owner) purchase date.
Engine blew while driving down the highway, gave no indication anything was wrong.
I stopped at a red light and my car cut off. I would not crank back up. The. Mechanic said the timing chain broke. My car will need a new motor. I have only 80,000 miles. Never had any problem and loved my car.
Took off from stop sign got up to 55 mph and engine blew. No warning lights. No check engine light. Nothing. It just blew. Oil pressure gauge was normal. It didn't make any kind of noise or hesitation. I was driving on a state highway on a straight stretch of road and was traveling slightly downhill when it blew. It was 5:20 am when it happened.
While driving i hear a popping sound -- thinking that i rolled over something with my tire but that's not it then my car starts smoking in the front and my windshield gets fogged up i use the defroster to try to clear my window but the smoke keeps coming up from the front . This happens anytime driving, parking, highway, city streets or just sitting at a light and i park in the garage i don't park on the street. This has happened on numerous occasions i already had the purge valve replaced.

I began to have problems with my engine in september of 2018, my car would just turn off while i was driving on the streets. Note that when i took my vehicle in i only had 29,800 miles on it. I took it into a dealership and they replaced my engine in which i did not get my vehicle back until january 2019. Every time i would get my vehicle back the check engine light would be on, and the car would drive terribly. In the course of 4-5 months i had a bad vehicle returned to me 3 times. I've had my vehicle for a week and i still do not feel safe driving it and when i reach the speed limit of 40 mph it begins to shake. Lastly, when i press on the breaks i could feel that my foot begins to tremor/shake as if i'm in a go-kart i still do not feel safe driving this vehicle on a day-to-day basis.i have attached two photos. One of the check engine light the day the dealership returned my vehicle, and two of the new engine.
On tuesday july 27 2021, we noticed that the oil light was flickering at idle on our 2017 kia soul. We called a dealership and they recommended that we have the car towed to their service department. We received confirmation that the car arrived at the dealership at 1.32 pm on tuesday july 27 2021. Weā€™d like to note that our 2017 kia soul had approximately 20,000 miles on it at this time.the dealership ran diagnostics on car and found nothing wrong. They also drove the car and said that they saw no indication of a problem (no flickering oil light). They said that the oil looked dark and thin. We had checked the oil the day before and it looked yellow to gold in color. We were not shown any evidence that the oil was dark, only the word of the service department. We had the car serviced and then picked it up from the dealership. 10 minutes or so after picking the car up from the dealership, on colorado highway 58 heading west, just outside golden, co, there was a loud knocking noise and the check engine and oil pressure lights starting blinking. Seconds later, the car lost power, and then stalled. My husband was able to steer it to side of the highway, where we waited more than three hours for roadside assistance from kia before having to leave the car to get somewhere safe. The outside temperatures were 90 degrees of more and our child, who was with us, is very sensitive to high temperatures.we are waiting to hear from the dealership (kia towing somehow managed to cancel the tow order and left the car on the side of the road all night) and do not yet know the exact nature of the engine failure but the car is undriveable. The fact that the engine stalled and died on the highway, traveling at a speed of 55 mph, is incredibly dangerous and put my husband at extreme risk for an accident or the infamous kia engine fire. All of this happened just minutes after picking up a car that we were told had no issues.

Bought a certified pre-owned 2017 kia soul in 2019 and 1 year after usage there was an engine failure for what it appeared to be no reason. I've read that others have experienced the same thing around 60,000 miles and conveniently enough our vehicle had 65000 miles on it at the time of the engine failure. There was a loud knocking noise and then smoke when it failed. It caused a crack to go up through the short block and luckily wasn't able to damage the valve train. I've tried contacting every kia dealership to see if they would fix the problem but i got the sense they didn't want to deal with the costly headache, especially due to the fact i was barely outside of the warranty threshold of 60000 miles. I feel like there should be a recall on these engines especially if they is an ongoing lawsuit against other kia models with similar problems.

I purchased my 2017 kia souls base model on jun 28 this year from quirk kia in braintree, ma. After just 2 weeks this issue happened for the first time. I was at a gas station gassing up the car, once i was done, i turned the car on, put it in drive and the car would not move ' i was pressing the gas pedal and nothing was happening. I immediately put the shifter in park, turned the engine off and on again and the car started to move again.on july 26 same issue happened again and it also happened right after i gassed up the car. On september 15th while i was working as uber driver this issue happened again, but this time while i was driving. I stopped at red light, after few minutes i started driving but just after 50-60 yards i completely lost acceleration. The car would not respond to gas pedal, while engine was running and i had electricity. I had to completely stop the car, turn the engine off and on again and the car started to work again.after this incident i called kia usa (monday, september 18th) and was advised by customer support to bring the card immediately to kia dealership. I did some research on the internet and found a kia soul forum where other people have had the exact same issue. It was time for my second 5000 mile oil change on an engine replaced in july 2020. I go in, and they tell me i need a diagnostic due to oil all over the under carriage.i refuse because this engine has a warranty and is 6 mos. Old. They change the oil, inject dye into it and tell me to come back in 500 miles. I go back on tuesday and they tell me the crankshaft sensor is dry rotted and leaking oil and it will be 400.00. Why was it not changed? i still to this day have never had a check engine light or low oil light come on. Why won't kia stand behind their products? why won't you do something about it?

A couple hours after getting an oil change the engine started knocking. It got so bad we couldnā€™t continue to safely drive it, even to get it back to the service station. Had it towed to repair shop and they have said there is a bearing rod that is messed up in the engine. There was not an accident or fire only because we stopped driving before things could get worse. Although the 2017 kia soul does not have any recalls it uses some of the same parts of other models that have been recalled. I have also been told this is a common issue for this model. I donā€™t have an estimate yet as the repair shop is still working on that. I donā€™t remember exact mileage and canā€™t check because car is at shop.
Got the oil changed in october. Was heading home on the highway & was going up a hill then the car started acting up. Looked back in the rear view mirror & saw smoke. Pulled over on the side of the highway to look to see what happened & oil was everywhere. Looked underneath the car after it cooled off & the was a hole in the motor. A rod shot through. The car has 97,000 miles on it. I've read other reviews about kia souls having recalls with the engines & if i would of known that we wouldn't of bought a kia soul because our dealer doesn't want to help us fix it.

My vehicle has the speaker lights package... For the past few months, i have noticed that when im driving my speaker lights will sometimes flash even with the switch set to off. Other times it will cycle through the mood setting...again while the switch is off. Some times it will do both...mood lighting and flashing to beat of the music...while swtiched to off. On 2/6/2021, i brought my car in for servicing. I mentioned the issue to my service advisor. Told me they would look at it...cool. I'm okay with that. I leave, then come back to check the status of my car. Tells me they can't reproduce the issue. Ha! i have a video...i show it to the service advisor who tells me to go wait in the lobby and he'll be right back. About 30 minutes pass, my car is done. He tells me that they still can't make it do what i showed him. I'm guessing a video isn't real proof there is a real electrical issue going on. The service advisor tells me to "swing by" when it happens. Mind you i live about an hour away, i only went to friendly kia because i was told they were good. Apparently not! anyway, there is an issue kia is refusing to address. I'm guessing no one there knows what would happen if a kia vehicle were to catch fire due to a short in the system just days after having it in due to an issue with the speaker lights having a short. That would not look good being told all over the media, then in court when that person sues you for damages due to an issue you refused to correct with video proof...about 20 seconds of proof that there is an issue!

When driving,especially going around curves, and turning corners, with foot completely on, pressing down on pedal, vehicle completely stops in the middle of the road. Have to take foor totally off pedal, try pressing down again to hopefully get it to go again

The engine started making a ticking noise. Which got louder and faster as i drove. I went 20 minutes down the rode and the car stopped and started rolling forward with no power as if i was in neutral. I tried to jump the car and did not succeed, the oil was bone dry. I added oil and the same noise arose and the car stopped again. Lastly. I could not get my car to go 2-4 min without it turning off. Purchased this car used with 16k miles in sept 2018. Stopped at an intersection and when trying to pull out the engine would not respond to the gas pedal. Engine remained at an idle even after flooring the gas pedal several times. Almost got hit!! i recycled the key several times and finally it worked. I took to the dealer and got the " no problem found " now i experience a rough idle and a strange feeling in the brake pedal when braking. Today i started the car and the engine would not go over 3000 rpms. Cycled the key and it was ok. I'm afraid to drive this car for fear it may kill me! please help.

My car feels like it steers sideways down the road,it bounces,hard to control,it loses power in 3rd gear,the brakes don't work well at all,engine pings loudly constantly.i took my car to carfax in modesto california whom i purchased from and they couldn't find anything wrong,th s ir lieing,living, car was wrecked and painted over ,its full of over spray,the car is dangerous to drive,i want it replaced with a new kiasoul

With no warning my car completely stopped working, no engine light ever came on, my oil changes were up-to-date, and it was diagnosed with rod knock which is what everybody else on here is saying. How is there not already a recall on this year???
My situation is happening everyday with my kia soul 2017 it constantly smokes, if fogs up my whole windshield when i turn the defroster on it smells like it's burning it is very fearful i don't go far i only have a eight mile drive to work and i go through this everyday and night.my worries are valid i feel because i have the 2.0 engine and from what i've been reading this is the engine that has been causing all of the fires the popping sound has not stopped this is a second report for me and i am pleading for your company to please add 2017 kia soul to the recall list thank you.
Oil light came on, checked oil and it was low. Added oil. The next day the car loss complete power and stalled on the side of the road. Engine made a loud sound and stopped. Had the vehicle towed to our dealer and was told the lower part of the engine blowed at 82,509 miles. Regular maintenance was done at a dealership in our town. Extended warranty that was purchased had went out 1000 miles back and now we are told the regular power train warranty doesn't cover because we were the 2nd owner. We were told about $9000 to fix the car. I have contacted kia and because they dont have any issues with this vin# they can't help. Even though when you google engine problems with this year there are plenty of complaint all over the internet. If these cars are giving so much trouble, why isn't there something they can do. I work with 2 people that own kia's of other models and had the same problem and their motor was replace free of charge. I need help, please. We front have the money to replace the motor and my daughter still owes over $9000 on this car.

My 2017 kia showed no signs of problems until i was driving to store on state road 9 going 40 mph and while in drive in died out on me. I turned the key over a few times. It finally caught and started. I continued home and it did this again. Only the oil light came on. I got it started and moved off the road and had it towed to my mothers. When i tried to start it again it wouldnt start. My step father looked at it and the piston had flown it to the spark plug. And i was told my moter was blown.

My kia soul was manufactured 11/16 & has 8,643 miles on it as 10/8/19. I started my car the morning of 10/719 & the air bag and electronic stability control indicator lights went on and will not go off. This morning the passenger's seat belt light was flashing also. Are there any recalls on these items for my vehicle?
The contact rented a 2017 kia soul. While driving the vehicle, the contact became aware of a bruise around the tail bone area. The contact had an x-ray performed and was informed that he had sustained a fractured tail bone. The contact was treated for the fractured tail bone. The vehicle was sent to summit place kia west (4575 plainfield ave ne, grand rapids, mi 49525, (616) 323-1400) near enterprise rental car. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The manual does not show instructions on a kia soul manual transmission. The kia soul base model seems to be purchased as a kia soul automatic transmission without the upgrade. The manual indicates that the kia soul model has features and upgrades and does not even touch on manual transmission.

When attempting to brake, the brake's will release and then grab onto the rotors again. Also have a soft petal and hissing when pressing on the brake. The dealership where purchased states that nothing is wrong; however, i am experiencing grinding, my car shaking at random times when attempting to stop, or randomly failure to stop, resulting in having to go off the road.

On friday, april 20, 2018, on a major highway, traffic began to slow and as i applied my brakes, they felt as though they traveled to the floor, and even though i had plenty of space to stop, i was unable to and was in an accident.the car was repaired by a non-kia dealer via my insurance. Within two days of me having the vehicle back in my possession, it happened again, this time while coming to a slow gradual stop at a light. I took the vehicle to my local dealership, price kia, to report the concern. After multiple test drives, they felt the brakes traveling too far and replaced the master cylinder, with the claim that this could be the "only possible cause."over the next few months, the car has been back into the dealership for the same issue; it had not been resolved with the replacement of the master cylinder. Price kia now claims the issue isn't relocatable and refuses to do anything about it. Should further documentation be needed the work orders, accident report, and other documentation can be provided.

This is the second time i have had to have the traction and abs sensors go bad. The first time it was fixed under warranty, this time i'm being told i have to pay $400 for a $37 part. This is a safety issue as i do not have abs and traction control at all. You need that in florida when it rains...every day. This needs to be fixed under warranty, no excuses. This is a safety hazard, and if something like this doesn't get fixed, it opens lawsuits for kia. I suggest that this be corrected under warranty or i will seek legal counsel.

I purchased a new 2017 kia soul +. I have an android phone and told the sales person i wanted 2 things. 1) handsfree dialing and a backup camera. Their description never stated, nor did yours on your website, that the handsfree only works with iphones. I had a 2016 kia soul and it worked perfectly. This is a safety issue and false advertising. Android phone users have over 55% of the cell phone market and why you took this feature away from your car is a bad move. Then not to tell people when shopping, is another bad move. Im sure less people would buy your cars if they knew their android phones won't work. I am very upset because i know i wouldnt have purchased this car had i known i need an iphone to use the handsfree dialing. I am going to report this to the bbb because the sales person lied to me even tho they said they too were unaware that you took this feature away from the cars. You need to fix this because there are many kia owners on the forums who are upset about this issue. You cant advertise that a car has an option but not tell them only if you have iphone this option will work. Again, its a huge safety issue too.
Steering wheel keeps locking while driving

The steering wheel go locked when in curve resulting in a crash where i hit a pole in the right side of the street.
The front door on the drivers side doesn't latch or lock completely when the door is closed/shut from inside. Many times when exiting the vehicle from the drivers seat i discover the door hadn't been latched at all because i can open the door without using the door handle, it will open with a slight push from my arm. I worry the door will open when it's moving causing an accident and injuries from falling out of the vehicle. A second safety issue with my kia soul is the hesitation and slowness of acceleration when entering the freeway and merging into traffic. With the gas pedal pressed to the floor, a safe speed can't be attained for 2-3 minutes causing other vehicles to slam on their brakes, reduce speed or change lanes to avoid hitting the back or side of my vehicle. This is the reason i no longer drive on the freeway and take the long route instead. Thirdly, when backing out of a parking spot, the backup camera fails to engage about a quarter of the time and i must rely solely on sideview and rearview mirrors. Incidents occurred from a dead stop up to 50 miles per hour.

The hands-free bluetooth telephone connect system in my car, and all 2017 kia soul and sedona models with the base stereo system, does not allow hands-free operation with android phones. Only apple phones are supported. To make a call with an android phone one must manipulate either the handset itself, or the radio buttons and knobs in the dash. This violates the driving law in my state and i'm sure many others. It's also exceedingly distracting and unsafe.the sales brochure for these cars clearly states that the system has full functionality with both android and iphone devices. Neither sales, or service managers at the dealerships had been notified of this defect, and were as shocked as i was to learn the facts of the matter.i contacted kia corporate offices in california, and was subsequently called by an escalation representative with customer service, who at least claimed no knowledge of the defect and promised a solution, or they would take the car back and refund my down payments plus damages. After three weeks of no reply to the few gentle messages i left, i finally had a conversation with him where he informed me that - the system is working correctly as designed, it is designed for use with the iphone - he also said that kia was willing to buy me an iphone to settle the matter. This is obviously not a solution.the sales manager at my dealership says that he has spoken with his factory rep about the matter but there has been no comment and none is expected.so i'm compelled to make this report to you, and i intend to, as they say, blow up the internet, with postings exposing this defect and the corporate response. Please find attached kia pitstop dealer technical operations network bulletin #ps462 describing this defect. This was provided by the dealer service manager, who like me is shocked by this, but told me today to expect nothing from kia.
This is the second time i have had to take my vehicle in to have the speed sensors fixed. Now kia is trying to charge me $400+ for something that is obviously a defect within the system. They have failed to respond to my many complaints, and i am hoping you all can do an investigation as to why i am having continued issues with the speed and traction sensors. Please help.
The engine started making a ticking noise. Which got louder and faster as i drove. I went 20 minutes down the rode and the car stopped and started rolling forward with no power as if i was in neutral. I tried to jump the car and did not succeed, the oil was bone dry. I added oil and the same noise arose and the car stopped again. Lastly. I could not get my car to go 2-4 min without it turning off. I will be able to provide a video of this happening, i do could not load the file choosen
When i am driving and istop at light and start to pull out my caris like it has know power at allthen it will just take off its done that when ihave pulled out into trafficjust completystop than take offis there any recalls on something likes this worried one day not going to take off going to get hit

The blind spot detection fails to see most buses, rvs, and large trucks with trailers.it seems that about 90% of these vehicle types it does not see. Cars are not a problem. We noticed that his was the case nearly every time we passed a semi or bus. I could be going 40 to 75 mph. Speed did not seem to mater. I reported this to the dealer and they said yes it does this on this model. Why pay for blind spot detection when it cannot see a truck?
I purchased my 2017 kia souls base model on jun 28 this year from quirk kia in braintree, ma. After just 2 weeks this issue happened for the first time. I was at a gas station gassing up the car, once i was done, i turned the car on, put it in drive and the car would not move ' i was pressing the gas pedal and nothing was happening. I immediately put the shifter in park, turned the engine off and on again and the car started to move again.on july 26 same issue happened again and it also happened right after i gassed up the car. On september 15th while i was working as uber driver this issue happened again, but this time while i was driving. I stopped at red light, after few minutes i started driving but just after 50-60 yards i completely lost acceleration. The car would not respond to gas pedal, while engine was running and i had electricity. I had to completely stop the car, turn the engine off and on again and the car started to work again.after this incident i called kia usa (monday, september 18th) and was advised by customer support to bring the card immediately to kia dealership. I did some research on the internet and found a kia soul forum where other people have had the exact same issue. Just purchased fist keyless entry vehicle. Dealer told me if the car is running and i walk away with keys in my pocket that the engine would shut off. At work next day got out of car with hands full, went into building and exprected car to shut down three hours later co-worker tells me car is running out in parking lot. Went out to investigate without my key, got into running vehicle and drove away with no key. Anyone could have stolen this vehice in that three hour period,i could have driven away and been stranded in a dangerous situation or i could have returned to the car that was out of gas and been stranded in a dangerous situation. This vehicle should not be allowed to shift into drive if the key is not near the vehicle.
Oil light keeps flickering when at idle or low speeds.i hear this has been an issue with this for many years of kia cars.
While car was in motion backing in my driveway, i was able to pull drivers handle while lock engaged and door opened while vehicle was still moving. Although i planned on opening the door as car came to a rest i was surprised how easy it was to open while car is moving, and door had done so prematurely then i expected. Concerned i tested while driving forward like 20 mph & door opens when grabbing on handle. My concern is while the vehicle is in motion one should be required to manually unlock any door before it opens. I addressed with my kia dealer and they told me this is normal that opening handle overides the lock. This would make sense to do when car is parked, not when the transmission is engaged. I have 2004 saturn and mine doesnt do that. I understand door/lock features can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I can see a benefit to the handle overide feature that people could be in panic in case of fire or other danger that all they think about is the handle and stay trapped because they forget about the lock. The consumer should be allowed to decide if this is a feature they want enabled or not. Kia has told me there is nothing i can do. I feel this is a big safety concern since all you have to do is barely grab handle and door releases; dont need to pull handle all the way.if nothing else it should release after 5-10 seconds of continuous pressure while handle is in maxed out opening position to open door while transmission is in any gear other than park. And if nothing else, only the drivers door should be able to open while cars in motion while pulling on handle. Front passenger door tested and does same thing. Kia says only the rear doors should stay secure with child locks, i disagree! had another time when i was gonna be dropped off as a passenger and planned on openening door, it flew wide-open when turning in driveway and almost damaged 2 cars!
When driving my car 1 hour or more and turn off the car and turn on again my car and immediately turn on the ac my car engine shakes and turn off the motor. I left my car in the dealer when i buy the car in 4 times but nobody found the problem. So i feel fear for will have an accident. Please i need help. I have this problem since 2018.*dt
Voice activation does not work on base radio with android phone
I purchased a new 2017 kia soul +. I have an android phone and told the sales person i wanted 2 things. 1) handsfree dialing and a backup camera. Their description never stated, nor did yours on your website, that the handsfree only works with iphones. I had a 2016 kia soul and it worked perfectly. This is a safety issue and false advertising. Android phone users have over 55% of the cell phone market and why you took this feature away from your car is a bad move. Then not to tell people when shopping, is another bad move. Im sure less people would buy your cars if they knew their android phones won't work. I am very upset because i know i wouldnt have purchased this car had i known i need an iphone to use the handsfree dialing. I am going to report this to the bbb because the sales person lied to me even tho they said they too were unaware that you took this feature away from the cars. You need to fix this because there are many kia owners on the forums who are upset about this issue. You cant advertise that a car has an option but not tell them only if you have iphone this option will work. Again, its a huge safety issue too.
The front door on the drivers side doesn't latch or lock completely when the door is closed/shut from inside. Many times when exiting the vehicle from the drivers seat i discover the door hadn't been latched at all because i can open the door without using the door handle, it will open with a slight push from my arm. I worry the door will open when it's moving causing an accident and injuries from falling out of the vehicle. A second safety issue with my kia soul is the hesitation and slowness of acceleration when entering the freeway and merging into traffic. With the gas pedal pressed to the floor, a safe speed can't be attained for 2-3 minutes causing other vehicles to slam on their brakes, reduce speed or change lanes to avoid hitting the back or side of my vehicle. This is the reason i no longer drive on the freeway and take the long route instead. Thirdly, when backing out of a parking spot, the backup camera fails to engage about a quarter of the time and i must rely solely on sideview and rearview mirrors. Incidents occurred from a dead stop up to 50 miles per hour.

So even since i have had the car it sometimes would hesitate when i would accelerate and i would sometimes feel like i was pressing the gas and getting little to no actual response from the vehicle. Then a few days ago my engine blew with no warning sign, my oil and coolant were empty even though i know all my fluids were fine. I do commute to work and i know that's harder on a vehicle but none of my other cars which have all been older models have ever given me an issue like what happened to me with this one. Seems odd if anything. When i was starting up my car leaving work it just randomly started with the noises and then the entire way home it got worse i did not drive it after that i tried everything to get it to the dealership however it had to be towed there. I noticed a bunch of fluid coming out on my parking lot when we got it moved, not sure what caused any of this or how my engine blew.
The manual does not show instructions on a kia soul manual transmission. The kia soul base model seems to be purchased as a kia soul automatic transmission without the upgrade. The manual indicates that the kia soul model has features and upgrades and does not even touch on manual transmission.
We drove the car for 5900 miles when we noticed a bubble on the side wall for one of the tires.the tires are kumho solus ta31. We contacted the usa rep and were directed to a sears autocenter for an inspection. We were told that the sears centre will open the claim for us.te seras center did not opened the claim and issued a report without any details about the condition of the tire.we made a second call to the kumho rep and got the run around about going to the center without a claim opened. They opened finally a claim and they suggested to go to a kia dealership. We voiced our concern about losing time and work hours, not talking about using a car that may be unsafe to drive.we are concerned that another tire may exhibit the same issue if they are from the same series?!we are not satisfied with the way that kumho honored the warranty they issued for these tires.it will be much faster to pay 120$ and purchase a new tire, however we are concerns about the type of warrantythat is offered by kumho
Tire completely separated from rim while driving on interstate, no warnings, has less than 1000 miles , 70mph heard a thumping noise then a loud explosion type sound, vehicle was hard to control after getting off to side of road the tire separated at rim all the way around, nothing was hit
