Driving a 2012 kia soul, truck unexpectedly stopped in front of me, light was green. Managed to stop and got hit in the rear by a jeep, my vehicle was propelled into the pickup in front of me. Suffered injuries to neck, shoulder, r/arm r/elbow. Airbags did not deploy. Set restraints we all that prevented me from hitting the steering wheel and windshield. Injuries were from airbag not deploying properly. None deployed. Damage to front ansd rear of car, might be totaled.

My spouse hit a large male deer head on at appx 55mph at about 5am this morning.the airbag deployed, but the blast from the airbag burned completely through the sleeves of his jacket, through two layers of shirts, and caused second degree burns of his arms.had he not been wearing so many layers of clothing, we are confident that the burns would have been full thickness third degree burns.we have pictures of the burns on his arms and the burned garments.while we are pleased the airbag deployed, the heat generated and directed towards the driver is too high and extremely dangerous, causing serious burns and causing clothing to ignite which can result in death.though his clothing was burned completely through, the flame did not spread in his case.however, the airbag deployment could have ignited the driver's (my husband's) clothing and unnecessary killed him and burned him to death.the burns he suffered are not minor and would have been much worse without the layers of clothing that helped reduce the intensity.there is no excuse for such a serious safety hazard in a feature that is supposed to protect passengers and driver.causing serious burns, or worse, setting driver/passenger on fire, is harmful and potentially fatal.

My car was going approximately 50mph when it rear ended a stopped vehicle in the middle of a busy highway.then my car was rear ended seconds afterwards.my car was scrunched (totaled), both front and back, and the airbags never deployed. Had the airbags deployed, the injuries to the driver would've been much less severe.i have huge concerns and doubts about the safety of this model.i don't think the airbags in this model propertly function.

My 2012 kia soul has started to make a clunking sound when turning the steering wheel.on top of this the steering has become very loose when driving.while driving the wind blew at the car and the steering being so loose caused me to almost loose control and crash.lucky for me there wasn't another car around or it would have hit me head on.it's hard to control it especially at higher speeds.i also noticed that the air bag light is constantly on also now.i'm not sure why that is happening.i hope it works in case this steering issue causes me to wreck.i need the car to drive to work and don't have the money to pay dealership to even look at it.while driving on the highway has become very nerve-wracking due to steering being so loose.i have read that everyo e with this year and model are having similar issues.

I was slowing approaching parking spot.vehicle started speeding rapidly,i could not stop vehicle and crashed into a brick building.myson was yelling to stop, i said i am trying and cannot.the air bags came out, car was smoking, badly dented. Windshield broke.we were bruised and scratched. There was over $9500 worth of damage.the vehicle malfunctioned and sped out of control.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that while the driver was going north on the outside lane at an intersection with the green traffic signal, another vehicle driving south made a left turn and crashed into the front of the drivers vehicle. The drivers side air bag deployed with force as well as fragments and a chemical substance that damaged the contacts left hand. The driver also sustained bruising and burns to the bust and chest. The injuries sustained from the impact of the air bags required further medical treatment. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a impound lot and to be inspected and diagnosed to determine the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

My wife was in an accident and flipped her kia soul several times and the air bags did not deploy, i have done some research and found that kia's are known for this problem.

Two occupants in front seats of 2012 kia soul. Involved in a passenger side collision at the front door. Other car was traveling at the speed of 40mph or greater at the time of collision. Caused more than $8500 to the kia soul. There was no air bag deployment.

We were traveling down a rural road in kentucky.a deer ran out in front of us.we struck the deer at approximately 57 mph.there was considerable damage to the front end of the vehicle and it was not drivable.our airbags did not deploy.

I just bought my car in april and with registration papers i received recall papersstating 2 recalls for my vehicle i didn't think it was legal to sell vehicle without having it fixed.??next i. Take my vehicle to kia dealer on monday august 3 to fix recallsthey.said.no codes show.. I drive home 45 mini away. Car dies. Inext morning.it.dies.again wont start.. I looks under the hood and there.is a.wire buring through my fus box which was not there before and now i have no.power to my vehicle and something isn't right i know that wire wasn't there before.

The radio froze and i couldn't change the station, program, or use the cd. Next the backup camera wouldn't work. After driving further, the signals and lights on the dash ceased to function. I didn't drive more than 8 miles going to and from work and to the store. It has reset itself so far after the car sat for 3-9 hours. The kia toll free number referred me to the dealer in richmond, ca where i bought the used car, but was told it cannot be fixed until the car is brought in while trouble occurs. It has happened 6 times since june 26, 2013.

Faulty wiring harness. Car was 3 weeks old.

Started car sunday at 1:30 pm. Notices gas gauge needle was below empty. Backed out of parking space, put the car into drive - no instrumentation at all. Tach at o, temp gauge at o, fuel gauge below empty. Shut off ignition and restarted engine - still no instrumentation drove slowly to nearest gas station to fill tank (i did not remember but i never lat the tank get below 1/4 full) too 2.6 gallons to fill. Speedometer and odometers not working. Only dashboard light working is temp (outside) and the econ light. Made an appointment with university kia - huntsville, al - left car after describing problem. The call monday pm said they were unable to determine the problem and since it was mlk day there was no tech support available - need to keep car overnight. No loaner could be authorized. U. Kia called tuesday pm at 1:30 said they rebooted the computer and the gauges appear working but they probably would fail. Kia tech services were to order and instrument cluster from korea as there were none in the us. Would take several weeks to obtain and reprogram. I requested a loaner from the service manager but he could not authorize one. I requested he elevate the request ot the dealership owner or to kia management. He ([xxx]. Kia service person) said he would forward my request and call me tomorrow (wednesday) this is just not an acceptable level of service. I cannot be without a vehicle for several weeks - especially since this is a major failure in a new auto that they are not prepared to repair quickly.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Nov. 2013 i was driving the car and the odometer stopped working, i went to kia and they said they had to order a part for it but it was okay to drive.i continued to drive it from ky to indianapolis in when the speedometer stopped working then the entire instrument panel stopped working, i called kia dealership in elizabethtown ky and they said they had ordered the entire cluster but car was okay to drive, i went out the next day and the car started but you could not engage the gear shift.had to have the car towed to dealership.they had car 3 weeks and said it is fixed.january 13th 2014 started all over with odometer going out, took it back to kia and they had to order yet another cluster (2nd in 2 months) okay to drive car, i refused and required them to provide loaner (which is not allowed to be taken out of state). This is not a safety issue but goes to electrical, they had to replace the entire glove compartment because the light kept going on and off when the door was closed. They said a sensor had gone out and they had to replace the entire thing not just a bulb.

Steering wheel makes a loud popping noise it is getting worse by the day.the lights flicker when turned on inside and outside the vehicle.

Where do i start, my 2012 kia soul has about 86,000 miles and has experience issues over the past few years. It started a few years ago where i changed my left brake light and discovered it was an ongoing issue where bulb is burnt and have to replace about twice yearly.second, sometimes when i go to crank my car it would start faintly then stall out and i will have to retry again until it cranks correctly. This having also been occurring for a few years. Third, within this past year i've experienced a/c control problems. When i go to turn it on it wont do anything,no defrost/blowing/hot/cold nothing. Then i would proceed to keep trying to turn off and on and out of no where it just starts on its own. Sometimes it's scary especially when i need to defrost my windows and it decides not to work. Took it to sun auto repair shop and they couldn't figure it out and said and i quote "it has a high failure rate", whatever that means. Fourth, the passenger side window will not respond to the driver side control button. Dont know if it's an electrical issue. This has also started within this past year.finally, about a few months ago my steering while started making this annoying clicking sound when i turn the steering wheel left to right . That is while driving and parked or stopped. It just keeps clicking every movement, bumps and turns. Suddenly i recieved a letter about this given warranty recalling my vehicle to get fixed. Now i'm questioning whether or not if my other problems are common in other vehicles and is on the roll to recall

Was going down ten, kia can't determine if my power steering want bout while going down the highway going 55, and then hitting a deer. The body work has been fixed but my vehicle has no power steering.power steering is not responding - mdps will not communicate with vehicle. Failure in electronic mdps at top of steering column. They checked all connectors, and no physical damage to column itself.found c1503 -esc/ecs (esp) error and c1687 - time out vsm2 (mdps) failure.diagnosis says i need a power steering column and motor assembly.geico refuses to cover this saying it's a common electrical power steering issue with kia's.if these are messing up electronically while driving this year for 2012 should be recalled.it feels as if insurance has found a loophole to not cover kia souls with power steering.i also saw a corrosion issue recall and my car was from ohio which i lived there years with it before moving to virginia.no one at the newport news virginia kia even mentioned the recall for my vin #, i found it while registering my kia online.

The computer system for the radio had a service advisory instead of a recall, so i wasn't notified by mail. But the problem is that in addition to the radio, it affects the backup camera and eventually the dashboard, making both of them inoperable. The repairmen at ford kia in richmond, ca tried to play this off like it's not a serious problem. But if the dashboard controls are useless when driving down the highway, and you need to try and pull over to restart the car, that is a problem waiting to happen.updated 10/05/2017

My car's heater assembly control has failed and in doing so my car's heater defaulted to cold and face making it impossible to defrost the windshield. Kia wants an astronomical fee to diagnose the problem and even more for the part and installation.

Car is jerking/bucking and misfiring while idle and when driving it jerks. Car check engine light constantly turns on and off on its own.

Received a letter from kia stating to have my steering checked out . I am hearing a popping noise when i turn left in the steering. It pulls to the right when driving the kia dealership is saying there's nothing wrong. But there's got to be something going on and they keep trying to tell me that there's nothing wrong. Also there's a suspension noise coming from the rear when i go over a great or anyting even a small little dent in the road it sounds like the whole back end of my car is going to fall apart another issue with the brakes when i apply the brakes my lights dim on the inside of my vehicle then when i go the lights will go bright again.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that there had been several failures that progressed since purchasing the vehicle. The radio shorted out and was replaced by the dealer (southside kia, 9401 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, fl 32225, (904) 400-6650). Also, the odometer displayed an improper reading and the steering column was extremely tight, making abnormal noises. In addition, the steering wheel was difficult to turn left or right. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than three times, but the radio failed again and the driver's seat belt failed to properly restrain. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it currently remains for service. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and indicated that they would provide a follow-up response. The contact received no solution yet from the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

Car would not start, it was found that the wire covers and wires were disinigrated.it was taken to shop and repaired.then two weeks later happened again, then again on 5/10/18 the car would not start again.vehicle was towed to shop and mechanic had advised that it was the same issue but different location, this time was worse and was told that if the vehicle would have started that it would have possibly caught on fire and endangering the safety to myself and other occupants.was also informed that kia uses a soy based peanut oil coating for the wires.he informed that this would attract animals. I have spent over $900 for these repairs.the mechanic advised that kia is aware of this and there are no recalls as far as he is aware of.

2012 kia soul with less than 15,000 miles on it suddenly burst into flames and the car is a total loss .

Car was great until it reached the 100000 mile mark. Then it loses all power and dies while going 65to 70 mph on freeway! it is going to get me killed! when happens, the rpm gauge quickly plummets to zero and remains there at zero after i get it restarted. After it sits for about 15 minutes it starts fine with the rpm gauge giving an actual reading. This is happening about 3 times in a 25 mile span!

I purchased the vehicle in december and every so often the gauges and the lights in the dash will not work. The vehicle failed to shift into gear. I had contacted the dealer from whom i purchase the vehicle, i then took it to their repair shop. The gentleman (mechanic) was unable to determine the cause. I then called the dealership and requested another vehicle, of course they refused. In a matter of days, the dash materials began to work again. Unfortunately, 20 days later, the same thing happened again. None of the lights and gauges in the dash work, and the vehicle will not go into drive. I am simply unhappy with the matter, because they are charging me nearly $20,000. For the vehicle.

12/28/17 purchased car from kia dealership.1/27/18 i was driving approx 50 mph down a county road and the drivers side windshield panelling flew off. The passenger side is loose as well. I am told no way to secure passenger side it just has to be replaced as well. Also noticed a loud screeching coming from driver side every time i apply the brake.2/3/18 neighbor was driving behind me down a city street and called to tell me rear driver side tire appeared wobbly. 2/6/18 dealership said bad wheel bearing and replaced but still had not ordered panelling. Also said noise was fine it was just caused by metallic structure of brakes and have to deal with it. 2/7/18 the stereo will turn on but everything is back to factory presets and no sound comes out of speakers.

Tried starting the car one morning and the entire dashboard is black. No readings for any of the gauges and shifter stuck in park. Car was drivable after releasing the gear with the shift lock release, but nothing on the instrument cluster working. Couldn't see odometer, fuel gauge, heat gauge because it wasn't moving or lit up.

After work on 4/30/19, i was speaking with the parking deck attendant. The car was in drive, but i had my foot on the brake. It started shaking and sounding rough, as if it were struggling to stay on. I drove it for a few miles, but was afraid to drive more than 35 or so mph. It was shaking and making noise the entire way. I only drove on the interstate to the next exit, so that i could find an open parking lot just in case it cut off on me.i called aaa and got a tow home due to the lateness of the hour. The next morning, aaa towed me to a aaa car care facility and i let them do repairs. I was told that ignition coil # 4 was bad and had to be replaced, and that it would be better to replace all 4 coils. I only had enough money to replace the bad one, plus the spark plugs and air & cabin filters that the mechanic recommended. He said that the other 3 coils should be replaced as soon as possible.

Dashboard lights came on and car wouldn't start. Had car towed tokia of bowie md., who did a diagnostic and replaced electrical panel which cost estimated $200.00 dollars including diagnostic. Kia ofbowie never called andwheni finally contacted someone a week later, they stated the steering column was out and would cost approximate $2000.00 and that's the part. Car has only 70.000 miles.

No engine warning lights on. At random, engine will lose power, but does not quit. No matter how much you try to accelerate, car only reaches approximately 30 mph. Observed to happen after turning ignition key and nothing happens. However, occurrence is random, and no engine warning code is given. Mechanics find nothing wrong, due to no warning code.

Car is in p as rk. Car is not moving.car is not already started.often the car won't start. Interior lights come on when key is placed in ignition, but wont turn over.you have to wiggle the shifter or turn the steering wheel.it will eventually start.car gurushas over 150 identical complaints. It appears it's a coil of some type. Multiple vehicles various years.he dealerships often just recommend replacing starter or battery. But the issueremains. It's a product defect.should be a recall.

Upon my last service at the dealership they told me my oil was low. This was the first time ever having to add oil. I continued to monitor the issue. Last week we drove the car approx 50 miles home. The next morning the car would not start at all. We had it towed to the dealer and they told me the engine is gone. The car has 97,000 miles and has been maintained myself for the last 6 years using synthetic oil.

My 2012 kia soul (base) with the 1.6l gdirecently had a problem on i-80 traveling between des moines, ia and denver, co.(there had been no prior symptoms)after reaching around 65 mph, the engine began misfiring emmiting obd error code 0336 indication a bad crankshaft position sensor.i stopped at the nearest autozone, bought aappropriate replacement, and installed the part in the parking lot.upon ignition, the car immidiately began misfiring and died.on the second attempt, the car started and misfired; but it sent the same 0336 code then the tachometer died.although the techometer died, the engine continued to idle (and run) without further misfires.upon seeing this, i figured it was the cam shaft position sensors (as the symptoms are very similiar).i found, and replaced both engine mounted cam shaft position sensors, but no new symptoms untill i test drove the vehicle.during the test drive, the vehicle emmited 3 obd codes, and didnt start misfiring until the tachometer went over 3500 rpm.by then, i was doing a highway test on i-80 outside lincoln, ne, and the car just died at around 55-65 mph.it emmited code 0336 for a bad crankshaft position sensor, 0565 for cruise control on signal malfunction (i have the base model, so there is no cruise control), and 0517 for battery temperature circuit malfunction.i managed to get the vehicle off the interstate, and back home where the problem changed again.now it misfires untill the tachometer hits 3500, then the tachometer dies and the vehicle appear to run normal (dispite the reoccuring odb2 codes 0366, 0517, and 0565)it appears the engine heated up enough to burn out a brand new crankshaft position sensor, and cause problems with the battery. (and possibly the ecu as it now reports my non-existant cruise control is malfunctioning)

2012 kia soul. Consumer states that the instrument panel could not be seen. The consumer stated kia needs to change the background color of its instruments to white letters over a blue background. The consumer stated it was hard to see, the red needles on a black background.

I bought a brand new kia soul in nov of 2011. Within 200 miles of ownership, the electronic stability control malfunction and falsely activated. The esc not only falsely activated but remained activated. The steering wheel was locked up and could only be turned if considerable force was applied to it. I carefully pulled over the to side of the road. I turned off my vehicle then started it back up hoping the esc would turn off. It did not. I ended up having to get the vehicle towed to my dealer. The kia dealer service shop ultimately had to replace the entire steering column to "fix" the problem.about two months later i was driving down the interstate and attempted to do a lane change. Again the electronic stability control falsely activated and caused me to collide with the vehicle directly in front of me. When the esc activated, the steering wheel locked up and caused a sudden loss of control, resulting in the accident. These are just 2 of many incidents i have experienced.

This is a recurring issue which kia can't identify or troubleshoot.it has been in the kia garage half a dozen times and still hasn't been fixed.the issue happens when the vehicle is initially started.the status lights in the dash all light up and go out one by one when systems are confirmed good, except the electronic assist steering and electronic stability control lights stay lit.the electronic assist power steering does not work as it is impossible to turn the wheel even if the vehicle is put into gear and driven forward or backwards.you have to turn the ignition off and restart the vehicle to reset everything and then it is fine.kia was called out to a parking lot at one point while the systems failed and they hooked up their diagnostics to the port and were unable to communicate with the vehicles computer system in order to diagnose the problem.i have been told to track this issue and there is nothing that can be done until the system totally fails and refuses to reset.diagnostics does not pickup the error when it occurs and the vehicles internal computer does not register the failure either.

Was driving on the express way behind a semi. When the semi got over in the right lane i accelerated and herd a loud bang and dark smoke started coming from my engine. It smelled often and impaired my vision. Several of my causation light illuminated and i was stuck at 60 mph my car would not accelerate and stopped working. I got over in the right lane safely and coasted for about a mile and a half to the nearest exit. Something told me do not put your foot on the brakes or you will be in serious trouble. As i got of the exit i started to brake and my car stopped and died.oil was leaking out and nothing was working. I had to get people to push me off to the side of the road and get a tow to the dealership. They told me i had catastrophic engine failure. So my engine failed me and i could have been killed. I did research and there have been many kia's with recall and very similar situations as mine but not with my model car. I am sure this is a manufactures error and i pray kia does a recall to protect people's lives.

Operational warning lights for brakes-stability control-anti-lock brakes. I have returned to dealer 3 times and they were unable to fix. This creates a safety concern.i.e. Do these systems function as required when driving conditions present themselves.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that while driving a knocking noise occurred coming from the engine as well as smoke was seen coming from under the hood. The engine and oil warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that she was closed to the dealer and coasted into spritzer kia cleveland (3414 brookpark rd, cleveland, oh 44134) where the vehicle was diagnosed that a rod went through the side of the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referred the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling), however her vin was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

In early 2016, my vehicle began burning oil at an alarming rate. November the same year i ended up having to get my engine replaced at about 120,000 miles. In 2019, the same issue began to occur. I have to put oil in my car multiple times every week. A family member who works for kia brought our attention to a recall on the catalytic converter that can cause converter and engine damage due to overheating. On jan 28 2020 i took the kia soul to stevens kia in harrisonburg va for the recall. We explained the issues we were having and pulled up the information about the recall possibly causing engine damage. They said they were unaware of that issue and that they don't believe it would cause the engine to burn off oil. Kia's information specifically says that it can cause the vehicle to overheat, burn off oil, and ultimately lead to engine failure.i still have to add oil to my vehicle multiple times during the week as it is damaged and hasn't been repaired. It is getting to the point where i'm scared it's going to leave me stranded somewhere or worse. I need to know what i have to do for kia to address the situation without contradicting their own information on the recall.

This is a standard 6 speed vehicle. Reverse is in the same location as 1st gear. The only difference is that one must pull on a slider control in the shift handle to get into first. Historically, reverse was always the gear farthest away from the driver. I have on multiple occasions thought i was in first but was accidently in reverse. I caught the mistake before there was any accident. As a suggestion, reverse should be in the same location for all cars in america. Actually, the entire gear pattern should be the same for all standard cars in america to prevent an accident.

Before taking the vehicle in for the recall it was burning oil. It would be completely empty after just 2000 miles of getting my oil change. I took it in to get the recall fixed. They replaced the computer as well as the catalytic converter. It still continues to burn the oil the same as it did before. They told me they couldn't do anything especially since it has 123000 miles now.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving various speeds, thee contact heard abnormal noises coming from the vehicle and all the warning indicators illuminated. Kia of duluth (1701 w michigan st, duluth, mn 55806, (866) 722-4542) diagnosed that the pistons needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 169,000.

I received a recall letter that was dated on april 6,2021 from kia that my car needed to come in for update to the engine to protect from excessive rod bearing damage.upon getting the car from the college campus and on the way to bring it back into the area to get the work done, it blew the engine.kia is now stating that they will not take care of the problem since i wasn't able to get the car there to have the work done before the damage happened.the engine blew on may 1,2021 less than a month after their letter was drafted.this is a car that has always been dealer maintained and has always been kept up on its repairs.they told me that they didn't even look into the history of the car and just said that it was my fault for not making it in to the shop, even through that's where i was getting it to.they in their letter state that had i been able to get the car in it would have extended the warranty to 150,000 miles, the car only has 107,000 on it when this happened.even through they sent a letter stating that they sold me a car with faulty parts now they won't cover the damage. Damage that luckily didn't end in a major accident but did total my car.the car was traveling at 75 miles per hour on the highway when the rod broke off and went thru the side of the engine.

Vechicle stalled at a stop light on a busy street without any warning or any indication anything was happening. Was able to make it go by giving it some gas but it was still super scary.

When you go to turn on the car it stalls as if the starter does not work after 2 tries it turns on only the rpms does not move and the car shakes very violently so i stop turn the car off and then on and no problem only when at a light or stopped in drive-thru the car will turn off no power you turn it on again and everything is good for a little while then it does the same over and over again. The check engine light goes on and off when i took the car to the kia dealership in pueblo they said it was an old code not to worry yet the car gives me trouble still and makes a weird clicking noise when i turn off

My 15 yr old son (permitted driver), my husband, and i were driving when the car started to jerk, and then stalled completely in the middle of traffic! luckily nobody was hurt, and we were able to get it towed to a kia service center. I have an open recall sc176. The diagnosis from kia fell under all of the criteria & symptoms with the recall. They first diagnosed it as a timing valve, sent a quote ordered parts, then called 2 hours before i am supposed to pick it up, and said my engine now needs replaced. It won't be warranted under the recall because a "code" did not appear. Mind you they found all of this out after they did the ecu upgrade with the recall. I know nothing about a code, but first it was misdiagnosed, then now i need a new engine, and the recall is still open for my vin. No engine compression test was done, and it took me calling kia headquarters for them to own a tech line case. I was told by headquarters they can only request info via email, then get a voicemail saying that they "called" them, and they said they cannot get the code. Not buying it, and this was a safety occurrence that happened with my son driving. Waiting on the diagnosis now from kia after the 4th request to them.

A loud ticking noise developed in the engine this spring. It was diagnosed by a kia technician as worn connecting rod/crankshaft bearings. I have performed regular recommended maintenance, including oil changes, within manufacturer's guidelines. The noise began subtly and worsened over time. It can be heard when the vehicle is stationary and at all speeds. It is loudest while accelerating and is faint while coasting.my specific vehicle is 2012 kia soul+ (plus) which has a nu 2.0-liter gdi engine. The same engine in other vehicles and different engine in this vehicle have been recalled for this same problem. I believe this is an error in manufacturing and should be recalled because of the safety hazard it presents (engine fire).

Catalytic recall- hard time accelerating.the rpm stayed at 0 while driving.went through almost an entire tank of gas within 4 hours.took to kia dealership and they said it was the catalytic converter.but my vin isn't on the list so they want me to pay out of pocked.exact same problem as the recall.

Bought a 2012 kia soul from graham's dealership in ontario, ohio in 2016, i started getting a knocking sound from my motor about 7 months ago and took it in to be looked atfor a recalland said there was no issues and gave me a tire rotation and oil change which had nothing to do with what i asked. The systems continued to get worse as i was buying four quarts a week for a 1.7 liter engine so i got it in and all of a sudden the motor was bad enough for them to believe considering it is absolutely horrible sounding so graham's calls kia and they say they'd replace it with a new motor (this was said on 12/11/20). Brian at graham's auto mall said he would call in the morning with the date for it to be replaced. I get the call the next day and they said that the manufacture was not going to do the recall even tho i was told it was going to be done and than changed the next day. Brian said they're was basically nothing to be done which i believe is a complete lie. I've been a loyal customer paying over 16,000$ through three years just for them to not take the recall and replace my motor. I am very upset over this and would love to have something done about it

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact's engine seized while exiting a fuel station. The contact pulled the vehicle over and attempted to restart the engine, but was unsuccessful. The contact had to leave the vehicle at the scene and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to southwest kia of austin (13175 us-183 n, austin, tx 78750, (512) 583-1900) where it was diagnosed that metal shavings were in the engine and sensors. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,131.

My 2012 kia soul caught fire after driving it for approximately 25 minutes. The fire started at the engine compartment and was consistent with a problem with fuel injection. The whole car burned down within about 5 minutes.

My kia soul 2012 has been having problem a with over the limit oil consumption that started in 2015. In the owners manual and in crown kia where i bought the car said that i can change oil on every 5000 miles. Over time it started burning more and more oil that it was needed to add and change oil every 1000 miles. Reputable mechanic in the area told me kia soul have that defect of burning excessive oil and it was due to defected valve guides and piston rings.

I took my 2012 kia soul into the dealership to have two recalls taken care of.one of the recalls involved high exhaust temperatures within the catalytic converter may cause internal engine damage to the pistons and connecting rods, resulting in an engine stall and failure. Dealers will upgrade the catalytic overheating protection engine control unit logic to prevent overheating of the catalytic converter, and replace the converter if it has been damaged, also assessing and repairing related damage to the engine as needed free of charge to resolve the concern.they did an ecu upgrade but at the time of the recall service they noted that the engine was knocking prior to service.they did not notify me that the engine was knocking.a week later i noticed the engine knocking and took it back to the dealership to have it addressed. I was told that the #2 rod bearing was bent and that i needed to replace my engine to the tune of $5500.they stated that the bent rod was not caused by the recall defect but could not tell me any other reason for how it was bent either.they have refused to replace the engine as part of the recall.

I was on the freeway, and all the lights lining the freeway were out. It was pitch black, and a cow had made its way into the middle of the freeway. It was struck by another vehicle and sent into the air, and flew right into my car. It is my understanding that one of adot's fences were down that was containing cattle. I was in a severe accident because of this, along with multiple other vehicles. I filed a police report and have that case number as well. I have photo and video evidence proof.

2012 kia soul, check engine light comes on and off intermittently, had condition checkedby nalley kia dealer was told that the catalytic converter needed replacement told me the cost for them to repair, i was unable to pay that amount...one week later recall came out (surely they new about the recall)...took it back to dealer twice... That i bought it new from (ed voyles kia) keep getting subterfuge...told the part will not be in until july 7th (2 plus months away)...called kia district office twice for a solution since car is increasingly getting worse....gave me a reference number and they never returned my call. Concerned that this engine will catch fire as well... Told by ed voyles kia dealer that they don't do loaner cars for recall repairs??!!

While driving car is randomly stalling . Visited several service include kia service as well nobody knows whats wrong. It's dangerous to drive when during driving the car just stalls all of the sudden.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving 55 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over and smelled a strong fuel odor. The contact had the vehicle towed to beaverton kia (12520 sw canyon rd, beaverton, or 97005 (503) 526-2131) where it was diagnosed that the engine had a fractured valve in the number 3 cylinder and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer quoted $6,000 to replace the engine. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was still at the dealer and had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 144,000.

My car does not seem to be covered under recall 19v120000, however it is having the same issues associated with that recall number. High exhaust temperatures within the catalytic converter may cause internal engine damage to the pistons and connecting rods, resulting in an engine stall and failure. There is engine shavings in my oil and it is making a horrible noise. It is no longer driveable. I took it into kia service previously and they told me it was related to the above concerns,

As i was driving on the street, the car cut off in the middle of an intersection.another motorist helped push car to safety. The car would not start without a jump, and when it was running, the engine was shaking.the check engine light was on and blinking.there was a smell coming from the exhaust.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact took the vehicle to dutch miller kia of wv (335 maccorkle ave, charleston, wv 25303) to have it repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). After the recall repair was performed, the vehicle still used an excessive amount of oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The vehicle was included in the nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate over 35 mph. The vehicle stalled and the contact was able to coast to the side of the road, however there was black smoke detected coming from under the hood which led inside the vehicle. The manufacturer towed the vehicle to casa kia 1374 george dieter dr, el paso, tx 79936(915) 856-2982 where the contact was not made aware of the results from the diagnostic test. The contact was also informed that the results was sent directly to the manufacturer and the repairs were denied. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 178,000.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to palmen kia of kenosha (5301 75th st, kenosha, wi 53142, (262) 671-1877) where it was diagnosed that the catalytic manifold needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the vehicle also needed additional repairs that were not included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

8-31-13 is the first time i went into the dealership to complain about the car accelerating when i would first start the car up in the garage and then when i was driving it would jerk into another gear. They reset the adaptive learning system. 10-9-13, is the 2nd time i went to dealership with the similar situation, but the car would seem like it was shifting from 1st to 2nd while i was actually driving. They checked transmission fluid levels and they thought it was low (they told me this is nonserviceable area and they had to access the cover which is bolted). They filled the transmission fluid and said to watch and check next timei have an oil change. 10-11-13, on way to work, car was being driven to work (30-45 mph, city driving) when it seemed like it was holding its breath,,,suddenly downshifted on it's own. Got to office. When leaving for the day, car was jerking as it was shifting from first to 2nd and seemed to not engage properly. Happened a couple of times at speeds less than 40 mph. Then noticed the equivalent of a check engine light came on and stayed on. Called dealership before i got home and asked if i could come in first thing in the morning.will be taking to dealership in morning. This is similar situation that someone else previously reported to this site on 8-10-13 for kia soul 2012.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While the vehicle was running, smoke appeared from the exhaust pipe and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,633.

My car does not seem to be covered under recall 19v120000, however it is having the same issues associated with that recall number. High exhaust temperatures within the catalytic converter may cause internal engine damage to the pistons and connecting rods, resulting in an engine stall and failure. My vehicle stalls when operating, sometimes while stopped, sometimes while accelerating. I took it into kia service previously and they told me it was related to the above concerns, but at the time a recall was not know.

Car had an oil change and was washed then came home. Car's front defroster was noted to be stuck on and white smoke started to billow out from under the hood. Quick check under the car noted a flame that was either coming from the catalytic converter or reflecting in the exhaust from somewhere on the bottom/side of the engine. No fluids were shown to be leaking onto the driveway or were visible. Car then rapidly went up in flames and was a complete loss. Fire department had to put out.

While driving to a family function in kentucky our 2012 kia soul started making a very loud clacking noise as it tried to maintain the 55mph speed limit while going uphill.when we pulled off we checked oil levels and checked the noise, it was much louder than the lifter noises and seemed to be a possible rod issue.after paying for a tow we contacted the kia dealership in pikeville and was told that our kia soul was not under their recall.if the 1.6l gdi engine is recalled for any model in this model year should it not be applied to all models?kia doesn't seem to want to help in any way.

I bought a used car a month ago. The car is the 2012 kia soul. Personally, i love this car. The design is pretty and i like it so much. But there is a problem with the engine. The car's engine is a 1.6 gdi engine. This is a car made in a korean factory. It ran 119,800 miles. Engine knocking noise is very serious. The knocking sound was very loud. I changed the engine oil about 50 days ago. And i ran about 1,000 miles. I checked the amount of engine oil today. Engine oil has been reduced by about 1 liter. I was surprised. If i hadn't checked, there would have been a big problem with the vehicle. I saw a lot of news about the engine of this car in korea. Already, the ministry of land, infrastructure and transport of the korean government has done a lot of research and testing on the engine of the car. They found that engine oil decreased a lot, and kia motors acknowledged this. I'm afraid the car will suddenly stop on the street due to engine failure. I want my family to be safe. I contacted american kia motors. They only say that my vehicle is out of warranty. If so, should i just continue to ride this car at risk?and i live in hawaii. By the way, the kia customer service center tells me to go to another island, honolulu, for inspection of the vehicle. In order to do that, i have to ship this car and i have to take a plane. But what if the vehicle takes several days to inspect? i think kia should respond wisely and quickly.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While stationary, the vehicle would not start when prompted. The failure occurred on more than one occasion. The vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 25,100.

On apr. 4th, 2019 my carhad broke down. After getting a diagnostic the mechanic had advised me that there is a holein my engine that seems to have been caused from overheating .a week lateron april 12, 2019 kia recall notices on my vehicle.the letter, which i received on april 24, 2019, stated that my vehicle is having a safety recall as there have been reports that it is had the abnormal engine combustion. I immediately called kia and they towed my car to the nearest kia dealership.two days later i will save a call from todd, the mechanic at kia, who stated my repair has been denied to contact consumer affairs . I spoke with them numerous times and was told that my repair was denied because i have no warranty on my engine. From my understanding, a warranty is not needed on a safety recall and that i am responsible to pay for the repairs which they said they can do it for $4100. This is absurd. I have been so inconvenienced and mistreated, engines exploding is not a minor problem with a car and i would like for them to provide me a proper solution. To me it seems as though the repairs are an out of pocket cost meaning no one at the company will get paid to repair it and they are giving me the short end of the stick. The recall letter indicated if i have been affected by this de the recall letter indicated if i have been affected by this defect they will replace the engine st no cost to me, but then ask me to pay $4100. Please help me. Attached i have attached the picture of the my engine clearly shown with a hole in it which is not something that often happens to vehicles. I want my recall letter honored asap.

My kia soul 2012 has a noise at cold start that last 15 to 20 second, it feel like some thing loose. Dealer at sahara, las vegas nevada had it for three times and 4 days each time and the first time they said was the timing tensioner and they replaced, but noise still there so they have two times more and at the end the said the noise is the oil pump, os if it was the oil pump why they replace the timing tensioner ?the noise still every day in the morning, plus smelling gas by the motor and infest the whole garage, so i took it to dealer at henderson ,nevada cause i found oil leaking by ocv ( oil control valve, so they replace two ocv and still leak oil, so i realized looking deeply that first two injectors are leaking gas, mixing with oil. They asked if oil got on the garage floor and when i said : no yet, so they said can not do any thing. So, the services manager there just put all this information to see if a person from manufacture or some one higher than then can look it up.i think when they replace timing tensioner they did not put right the liquid gasket, cause i see the leaking from that place.i have those problem since i bough the car and i waste my time three times 4 or 5 days each without my car, cause they don't rent cars or even give you one to move.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). Daytona kia (located at 1702, 510 n nova rd, daytona beach, fl 32114, (386) 252-7000) was contacted, but failed to schedule an appointment for the free repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The first time that this happened i was driving and was attempting to change lanes and i stepped on the gas pedal to speed up and the car hesitated after a few seconds i had power again. When the car did engage a big thick cloud of white smoke came out of the tailpipe.the second time this happen was on 5/25/2014 my wife was on a ramp trying to get on the interstate going about 30-40mph, there was a vehicle coming so she let off the gas pedal than when there was an opening she stepped on the gas pedal again and there was no power. After several seconds the car finally engaged and accelerated causing a big thick cloud of white smoke come out of the tail pipe.

Occasionally, the check engine light would turn on and then turn off. For only a day or two, i could hear a rattling sound upon acceleration. While driving on the highway, the noise became much louder, the engine failed and began smoking. The car became inoperable. I had the car towed to an auto shop where they showed me that a piston rod had punctured the car's engine block. I learned that the car had been recalled under nhtsa recall number 19v120. I followed recall instructions and brought the car to a local dealer. The dealer refused to repair the car. They stated that there is no proof that the engine malfunction was related to the recall.

Vehicle was driven for aprox. 45 min at freeway speeds of 70 mph upon exiting the free way the vehicle stalled. There was no accident and i was able to coast the vehicle to a parking lot, at that time the 2012 kia soul would not start. A few hours later i was able to start the vehicle, there was a very bad banging sound from the engine, i was able to drive it a short distance to the auto parts store to test the check engine light.there was a code for p0420 "catalyst system efficiency below threshold". I was told not to drive the vehicle any further. I had the vehicle towed to a kia service (where it currently is).they are claiming that it does not fall within the recall for nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 - kia recall # sc176this recall seems to be the same issue.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that there was an abnormal knocking noise coming from the engine. The contact was informed that oil needed to be added between oil change intervals. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the number one piston rod bearing damaged the crankshaft. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. Mike kelly kia (located at 254 pittsburgh rd suite a, butler, pa 16002, (724) 287-2701) stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). We received a recall letter from kia, recall number 19v120. The moritz dealership replaced the cop ecu logic. Within less than two weeks the car completely stopped in the middle of traffic and was towed back to the dealership. The dealership called and said we need a new engine, but have refused to cover it under recall 19v120. Which states that the engine may need to be replaced at no charge to the customer. The kia soul has been to the dealership before for just stopping in the road. Putting my daughters in danger every time. Any help i can get getting this resolved with kia would be greatly appreciated. I am not sure how many customers are not getting this recall honored, but kia should want their customers to be safe driving their vehicles.

I was on the way out of town with my family, i was traveling on a dark county road at night, i was driving 70 miles and all of a sudden a piece flew under the car and oil started spraying out and my car started smoking and when i pulled over to see what happened the car would not even go in neutral so that i could move it to the grass. I was stranded in a small town on the highway with fast moving vehicles and 18- wheelers with my 2 kids. It was very scary it took the police 15 minutes to come out. Very unsafe waiting on the side of the highway in the dark. The car was inoperable so i had to leave it on side of the road.

My vehicle's malfunction light came on and it began to lose power off and on going down the turnpike. Since then, it sometimes won't start even though it sounds like it is going to. It continues to have these problems intermittently. When a diagnostic tool was hooked up to it, it brought up the following codes: p0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold), p0336 (crankshaft position sensor "a" circuit range/performance. I believe this may be related to recall #19v120000.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that there was an abnormal clicking sound coming from the vehicle. The dealer (hutchinson auto mall, 3989 river place drive, macon, ga 31210, 478-757-2177) indicated that they repaired the vehicle per nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the remedy failed to provide a permanent repair. After the repair, the vehicle experienced reduced engine power and the clicking noise continued. The contact later received an extended warranty campaign. A loaner vehicle option was not provided. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.

Vehicle constantly misfiring or attempting to stall with a check engine line that doesn't stay illuminated whether running, driving,or at a stand still.potentially very dangerous!! when able to read code it states it's a cylinder 2 issue, but only provides generic code.still has issues despite getting fixed! this kia should be a part of the engine recall as well!

The engine made a popping sound and burst into flames.

Hello,i had received a recall notice on apr. 24th, 2019 in regards to my vehicle. It indicated that they are having safety recall on the engine which is causing abnormal engine combustion. On apr. 4th, 2019 my car broke down on the freeway. When i had got it diagnosed the repair man showed me a picture of a hole in my motor due to overheating. On apr. 24th, 2019 i called kia and they had my car towed to my local kia dealership. 2 days later i receive a call from the dealership stating my repair has been denied due to my car being out of warranty. Never on my letter did it indicate my car needed a warranty nor did they mention that it was needed when they towed my car to the dealership. I am extremely upset, not only is my problems not being addressed but nor has my safety. I should be treated with car considering my engine busted and i had a great chance of my car catching on fire. Not only that but how am i supposed to replace an engine if all of the engines are having abnormal combustion? this is so disappointing and i will take legal matters if not addressed. They are now stating i have to pay to get my car towed back to my apartment and i am furious. Please help me. I can be reached at [xxx] or by calling [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owned a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that while her daughter was stopped at an intersection, the vehicle began to make an abnormal ticking sound without warning. As the contact's daughter attempted to accelerate, the vehicle stalled also without warning. Upon restart of the engine, the contact's daughter was alerted by a fellow motorist that her vehicle had caught on fire(fire origin unknown). The contact's daughter immediately exited the vehicle and called for assistance. The fire department arrived at the scene and the fire was extinguished. The contact's mother believed that a fire report was filed but was not certain; no injuries were suffered due to the fire. Due to the fire, the vehicle was destroyed at the scene and towed to an independent tow yard. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The contact stated that she was never notified of the recall prior to the failure. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and the contact was given a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

Vehicle at 155000 miles. Driving up hill on a a road i drive every day to work. 0510, going 60 mph at 4000 rpms up the hill. Sound/felt engine explode. Pulled to the side of the road to inspect. Oil had leaked out and could not see damage. Got it tow home and found that a piston rod had broke and gone threw the bottom of the engine pan.

Had to replace engine

First 2 times car didn't start on initial try, car started, tach dial wasn't functioning and car didn't want to go more than 25 mph. Car taken to kia where they said car was fine but needed fuel inhectors cleaned and a serpentine belt.2 weeks later car stalls at stop light, tach dial not functioning and car doesn't want to accelerate past 25 mph. Called kia they were closing and would call back, never did.1 week later at stop light again and car stalls, restart, tach dial not functioning, car doesn't want to accelerate again. Taken to kia where scanner was put on and stated all was fine, even though the tach still was not functioning.shut car off and restarted and all was fine.....

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, an abnormal knocking noise could be heard from the vehicle as an unknown color smoke began to emit from the engine. As the contact pulled over and opened the hood, flames began to emit from the engine as two fellow motorists assisted her with throwing a blanket over the flames to extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported and the authorities were not called to the scene. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to tom dolan's reno kia(9455 s virginia st, reno, nv 89511) where they discovered that an engine rod had blown threw an engine block. They diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure and the contact had the engine replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer. In doing research, i see there is a recall on the 1.6 engines, but mine is a 2.0, why are there no recalls on the 2.0 ?

On nov 30th 2020 my 2012 kia soul broke down at about 8:00 pm on the middle of the highway headed south on 16 towards tacoma. I had to have aaa tow it to my ex husband's house. Im not familiar with cars but had just put oil in it and get regular check ups but to me it sounded like my engine blew. I could barely get off the highway enough so i wasn't hit by passing trucks. I wasn't turning but i was going 60 mph which was the speed limit. I havr documentation of aaa picking it up but haven't been able to afford to have it looked at. I've been finding rides to work since this happened

The engine is making a ticking noise and the steering wheel is clicking when i turned the steering wheel also had 3 open recalls. Took it to all star kia in san bernardino for 3 recalls and they refused to work on the vehicle because they said they were not comfortable working on the car, they also stated that the ticking sound was not related to the recall even though i told them i saw on the nhtsa website that due to catalytic coverter overheating it could cause rod knock. I even told them the recall was sc176.

I discovered this recall (sc176) (19v120) online and was never contacted by the manufacture.the engine through a piston rod just as the recall states that could happen and it did.we regularly changed the oil and kia is not going to honor this recall.

Noticed that my car was making noise while driving.checked oil and found there was no oil.i was getting oil changes at every 3000 miles then changed to 7500 miles per recommended.changed back to every 3000 miles because of significant oil loss.car was still burning oil and empty before 3000 mile change.also noticed it was burning a significant amount of gas also.took to dealership who did an induction test and told me i had carbon buildup on my pistons and my rings were sticking so i would need a new engine.placed a claim with kia and they denied my claim siting poor fuel and lack of maintenance records. They said i was not using the "recommended" gas stations. I was not asked for any maintenance records and how do they know what gas stations i was using.i feel that this is a defect with the engine.i am currently at 85,000 miles.

I purchased the 2012 kia soul on 12-18-20 and i had vehicle less than a week and it was losing power so i parked it until i could get it looked at on approx 02-03-21 the engine was disassembled by mechanic and found catalytic converter stopped up and piston failure after that time i found out about recall we contacted kia about issue and was told they would not look at it because it is not driveable to take to kia and they would not honor recall because cop ecu was not updated well engine already failed so we couldn't drive it there and recall said they would inspect vehicle and repair up to changing engine if necessary but they wouldn't even look at this one because engine had already failed and my vin number is under recall. I don't think this is right.

The engine light first illuminated when the engine stopped, then all of the panel lights lit up. I had it towed 25 miles to a mechanic i trust. As of the day of the incident i had owned it for exactly 5 years and 3 days. It has approximately 76,000 miles and had regular maintenance.

About 2 weeks ago my car died at a stoplight for the first time. All along there is no indicator lights. Then died while driving 3 days later at 35 mph. I went to an auto zone to get a check on its computer but they wouldn't do anything due to the corona virus. Drove it a few days , it died again at the stoplight. It began to do this every few days .no indication when it would shut off and no indicator lights. I called to see if there was a recall and there wasn't, i also checked online.when it died i would have to wait just off the road or at busy intersections for a few minutes and keep trying. Then after a few times i started noticing it would die at the intersection and then my rpm indicator would not work then the car would shut off while i was driving ,i would fight with it to start or it would start normally and everything worked for a while again. I called the dealer made an appointment, they said nothing was wrongbut one mechanic asked what year that there was a recall on other vehicles..today june 5th when i was stuck at an intersection i used my phone to record that it started after a few minutes and then when i drove it i had to floor the gas and the rpmindicator wasn't working at all. Then i was drivingfinally got it to speed and it died in the road at 55while driving luckily icoasted off the road .after a minute i taped where i was, how the car was pulled off crooked and then it started normally, no indicator lights ,rpm worked and i got home. The car dealer said he probably knew what it was due to the other recalls but it would be expensive. I cannot afford a repairdon't want to die either. If other cars were recalledmine needs to be. It's only a matter of time before i am in an accident because my car just dies whenever it wants to. I do not know how to upload off my phone but will gladly have someone do it soonto report it again.

In 2018 i known my 2012 soul 1.6l consume too much engine oil about 1qt for 1,000 miles. I told it the kia engineer. But the engineer said, it is caused by mileage over 140,000. I had added engine oil pretty often. I visited the kia a couple of months later for engine stalling and and extra oil consuming. I asked for recall 19v120000. But they said it is not for my car. They told other repair about $ 400 instead.

On or about june 27, 2013, i had about 58,000 miles on my vehicle and while on the freeway i noticed a slight hesitation and then a light knocking in the engine.engine light came on, so i had the code read and it idicated that the knock sensor was bad. I had it replaced and still had the knocking niose and engine light on.had the code read again and it idicated that it was the knock sensor, so i replaced it again.engine light went out but the knocking continued for several months.then it started stalling at stops, also engine was running odd and not having power.engine light came back on and this time the code indicated that it was the crank sensor. I replaced it and the odd running stopped. The engine still stalls on occasion it stalls even while driving. I've had both recalls completed on my vehicle, and was told by: arapahoe kia, (9701 e arapahoe rd, centennial, co 80112) after the catalitic converter recall was completed, that i should get the engine flushed and if it still continued, i had to have engine replaced at my cost. To say the least, that after 241,436 miles, it is still knocking, using oil. I think the catalitic converter had something to do with this issue, but you know how dealerships treat customers, like they don't know anything. I'm a mechical engineer inspector, so good luck with your kia souls, i think there should be a recall on all 1.6l engines.

Within ten minutes of driving the car, it stalls when stopped at lights, stop signs, etc., geared in drive and low idle under normal driving conditions. When restarted it proceeds at a slow crawl and will not accelerate or will accelerate normally in 15 to 30 seconds.had oil, oil filter and engine air filter replaced but did not correct the problem.engine light comes on when it stalls. After six times of dying and not accelerating, it is now parked in driveway and fear it is too dangerous to drive. These incidents happened within one week with no prior operation issues. I have read countless complaints on this issue from other kia soul ownersbut no resolves, just astronomical repair bills with no fixes andno help from kia, dealerships or the government.

Spark plugs are burning out for no reason. I have had several tune ups. Because the spark plugs are doing this. What is the problem.?

Car was great until it reached the 100000 mile mark. Then it loses all power and dies while going 65to 70 mph on freeway! it is going to get me killed! when happens, the rpm gauge quickly plummets to zero and remains there at zero after i get it restarted. After it sits for about 15 minutes it starts fine with the rpm gauge giving an actual reading. This is happening about 3 times in a 25 mile span!

It's only seven years old, but it leaks engine oil and a very large metal bump and knocking coming from the engine. It can be heard very loud even outside the car. I'm very worried if the engine is on fire or if it stops suddenly. In korea, the government has already recommended that the car's engine be repaired free of charge. I want to be solved well in the u.s.

Observed to happen after turning ignition key and nothing happens. However, occurrence is random, and no engine warning code is given. Mechanics find nothing wrong, due to no warning code.

I have been having my car stall at stoplight since the middle of may. I complained on here because there are no recalls on my car but on the same make and model some in the same year as mine does have recalls. Then it started to stall while driving. Then i took video on my phone of having to restart it and the rpms did not work at all. I took the advice from one of the phone numbers on here and they told me to take it to a kia dealer.the kia dealersaid there is nothing wrong and no codes, and no lights on the dash. Today it died 3 times the third time was turning left onto a 55 mph road. Thank god the driver coming saw me and my hazards. Yesterday i had a friend drive it and it did the same thing died at lights and while driving at 40 mph. Today i called the kia number and she said to keep taking it in to the dealer but i cannot afford a 90$ service charge every time. I know others were recalled. So i will keep complaining until my car gets on that list or i end up in an accident and have to get a lawyer.

I first noticed a grinding noise while backing out from a parking space.i thought perhaps a recent brake job needed some tweaking or maybe had a defective part installed.i dropped it at the dealership to get checked out on tuesday morning.when they finally looked at it on thursday they told me i needed a new engine due to "crank bearing failure" and "ring failure."my engine only had 63000 miles on it and all they could do was shrug and offer a used engine at the same cost as the current vehicle value.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. When the contact attempted to start the engine, the accelerator pedal would not move. On another occasion, while driving, the vehicle stalled and had to be towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated that the catalytic converter needed to be changed and the engine burned oil constantly at a high rate. The vehicle was towed to browns kia (9030 liberia ave, manassas, va 20110, (703) 331-8080) to be diagnosed and an unknown failure code appeared. The mechanic stated that the vehicle experienced the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was 156,000.

I was driving my car on the freeway, i got off on my exit. When i came up to the red light my car stalled and shut off. I turned my car back on and it wouldn't start so i tried again and it turned on but had a ticking sound. I got home and checked my oil and my oil was completely gone. I didn't have any oil light or engine light on. I took my car in and there is a recall sc176. Kia said my engine wasn't affected due to the recall. They said they don't know the cause of the problem and would have to tear the engine apart. They recommended i replace with a engine long block and it wouldn't be covered under the recall. Everything described in the recall is exactly what happened when i was driving. Im very lucky i wasn't on the freeway when this occurred because i had my 3 young children in the car with me.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine light had illuminated and the speed of the vehicle had suddenly reduced. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer trophy kia of carson located at 22020 recreation rd, carson, ca 90745, who reset the engine software but the failure continued to occur. The engine later experienced a loud knocking noise and excessive oil consumption. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 125,000.

I received a recall letter in the mail regarding the catalytic converter. The rec all indicated that if you hear a knocking in the engine the needed to check engine to see if it was damaged due to the catalytic converter. I took vehicle to 2 kia dealerships and both refused to look at engine but acknowledged that it was making knocking noise

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. Consumer stated on or about march 29, a tapping noise was noticed coming from the engine, we had the oil changed on april 2nd and the noise was reduced. On april 3rd whiled driving to work the vehicle began to smoke and the fire department was called. The contact stated that a rod fractured causing a hole in the oil pan which resulted in a catastrophic engine fire. The vehicle was unable to be driven. A fire inspection report was provided. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the dealer gossett kia, 1900 covington pike, memphis, tn 38128, 901-388-8989, was notified of the failure to but offered no assistance. In march 2019, vehicle began making noise and was brought in to kia dealership service department . Was told that oil was unexpectedly low despite last oil change in november 2018 and mileage/use of vehicle was much lower than normal during this time period. In october 2019, vehicle began making same noise and before it could be taken in, vehicle stopped functioning mid-traffic during left hand turn on to a side road from a 45 mph state highway. Brought again to same kia dealership service department. Technician reported on diagnosis report that "oil level seemed low (added 1 quart)" and verbally reported by phone that engine has unrepairable damage and entire engine needs to be replaced. We were quoted $6,000-$7,000 by the service department at the kia dealership to replace engine. Vehicle is currently sitting in our driveway unusable after being an extremely reliable vehicle requiring only regular and usual maintenance until march of this year.

2012 kia soul with less than 15,000 miles on it suddenly burst into flames and the car is a total loss .

Car lost power on highway and was unable to accelerate.check engine light was flashing.had car towed to gerald kia north aurora to have them evaluate car to see if it was a result of the catalytic converter recall.in 9/ 2017 dealership advised me that the catalytic converter needed replacement with a stored error code of p0420.i was told there was no rush to replace the converter since it was related to emissions.i was quoted a repair fee of $1630.replaced converter in 4/2018 and again in 3/2019 at reputable shop.dealership is stating the car is not eligible for the recall since i am "out of warranty".car was diagnosed with p3301 and p3303 failure.according to recall i have a stored p0420 code and active p300x codes. They should replace the short block according to the recall documents. Dealership is refusing to issue a tech line and honor recall.nohere on the paperwork does it state that the vehicle needs to be in "warranty"- if that was the case why did they inform me in 9/2019 there was a recall and my computer software needed to be updated.- i would be out of "warranty" nowhere on the recall paperwork kia filed does it state that only kia can replace a catalytic converter. Very frustrating that the dealership is not consumer driven.i have escalated this to kia corporate and am waiting for their response to see if they will honor their recall.

I bought a 2012 kia soul from capital city kia in montpelier, vermontjust over a month ago. It had 600 miles on it. After two weeks of driving it very seldom, it stopped operating while i was driving it and i had it towed to the nearest kia dealership. They kept it there for a couple hours and worked on it while i waited and then sent me on my way. They said it was just loose connections. A half an hour later the car quite while i was driving again and i had to have it towed again. They kept the car for diagnostics. I was frustrated and afraid to drive the car withoutsome reassurance that it was truly fixed. They said they did everything they could. I left with the car and went into a store for a half of an hour and when i went to drive home, it died again. This time they sent their most experienced technicians to me who experienced starting it up and then having it die again. They had to have it towed again. Upon picking it up after it was worked on, i was told that it was a specific thing( don't know what it was or how to explain) and that it was set to go. Yesterday, while i was out running errands it died while i was driving it for again. Kia in williston said they would take it in but i would have to get ride home, so i asked to have it toed to where i bought it in montpelier and stated that i would not drive the car ever again, citing the danger of having it quit again and this time in a dangerous place and at a dangerous speed. Capital city has agreed to replace the car with a 2013, with higher payments. I do not want that. I do not want to have a car from kia, as i feel that their product is inferior and their service is unsatisfactory. I would like my money back and i would like that car to be destroyed so that no one else will every be in danger while driving it.

Not sure if model is 2012 or 2011. A kia soul was in front of me at a stop light. The stop lights on the vehicle were so bright as to almost blind me. Is there a national standard that limits the maximum light on brake taillights?

I posted a complaint earlier with the blinker and headlight not working. I took it back to the dealer 3/17/12 it was a loose ground they fixed it and i thank god it was something simple.

I recently noticed when stopped that the steers no wheel makes a clunking sound when steer no left to right and back again and has a little play like it's not catching. Also i recently had brake lights replaced and it quickly burned out on the bottom half of the drivers side brake light.

My car is believed to be recalled, because the mpg (mile per gas?) is supposed to be between 30 to 34 mpg while driving on the highway.it was between 20 to 25 mpg all the times and never exceed to 34 mpg or more.the detail or guide showed that it can exceed to 34 mpg.i think maybe they lied or didn't know that it is recalled until they found out, but however they mailed me a form and with the url of the online form to fill out for the gift cards to be received.i did, but they are waiting for me to pick up the gift card (about $120) and i did not want it.i never thought that is how they treated me as a dumb customer and not have the mpg recall to replace or repair instead of receiving the gift card.it looks like they are trying to save the money, because they know that the replace or repair is very expensive.if the authorities read this, this must act now and have it repair or replace.the gas consumed a bit fast and wasted my money, because of this.

Faulty wiring harness. Car was 3 weeks old.

No engine warning lights on. At random, engine will lose power, but does not quit. No matter how much you try to accelerate, car only reaches approximately 30 mph.

2012 kia soul. Consumer states that their hood disengaged while driving and smashed against windshield. *ldthe consumer stated the manufacturer was notified, but did not offer any assistance.

Bought wife brand new 2012 kia soul in 2012. Got standard transmission. At around 20k i noticed a squeal coming from the vehicle when the clutch was completely disengaged, by that i mean vehicle running foot completely off clutch. I presumed it was a throw out bearing. Took it to local mechanic and he agreed. So i took it to local kia dealer. Bought vehicle in denton texas, but had moved 7 hours south to corpus christi area. When i took it to kia in corpus i got the run around. Yes of course they could hear it but everything was working mechanically. So i was basically told too bad. Wife really wanted the soul. And now i have to tell her kia doesn't care if it makes embarrassing noises while she's driving, just as long as i'm making the payments. Throw out bearings are not supposed to squeakor squeal. That noise is metal on metal friction, the energy it takes to make that noise has to be made by some sort of fuel. In this case it's metal rubbing on metal in a fashion that causes an unbearable amount of pressure until something finally gives prematurely.wife decided she would do her best to ignore it. And just enjoy her new car. Here we are 2015. Has made that horrible noise all these years. We both despise the vehicle and kia in general for the lack of ethics. Last month she was driving behind a work truck and the work truck had a major malfunction. Front passenger tire broke off of the truck at the upper and lower ball joints. The assemble flew back and smashed into my wife's car. The guys insurance claimed his responsibility. They had the vehicle at allen samuels for 5 weeks. Picked it up last night. Throw out bearing is unbearably loud and new squeal as well. Body shop said not their problem. Should have replaced it when i first heard it. They replaced whole front right of vehicle, but didn't touch loud new squeal.

Before applying brake pedal upon several occasions was able to shift vehicle from park to drive just by depressing shifter. Several trips to dealer and they could not duplicate problem.

The gear shift selector (manual transmission) wouldn't find any gear. The traffic signal turned green, i placed the gear in 1st.it drove about 200 feet and i heard a faint "pop". The transmission gear selector did not have any feeling in it, and i couldn't go into any gear.the engine remained running, i still had a clutch peddle, just no gears.i had it towed to a kia dealer where they informed me that the transmission cable linkage had failed and it was going to be difficult to find a new one. Apparently the 2012 soul 6 speed transmission is a one year only? when asked how long would it be the dealers response was, "we have a lot of recalls in here, and your part is on back order".

The contact was informed that the fuel cap needed to be replaced. The fuel cap was replaced and the check engine warning light was no longer displayed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The transmission fluid temperature sensor a electrical circuit input signal had high voltage for a predetermined period of time which causes the car to shift hard and buck. The automatic transmission acts like a manual. You have to take your foot off the gas and let it shift. This happens no matter were you are driving. It could happen when you're driving on the highway or city streets.

Vehicle with an automatic transmission is experiencing a violent shift from first gear to second gear under gentle acceleration and a lag in the shift where the engine races from 2nd to 3rd as if it was caught between gears. This is an intermittent problem that mainly seems to occur under gentle acceleration in traffic.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that once shifted into park, the vehicle automatically unlocked all of the doors. The contact believed the failure to be a safety issue since the feature was unable to be turned off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the vehicle was performing to standards and that they were unable to alter the design of the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100 and the current mileage was 1,200.

Vehicle cut off while awaiting light change. After numerous attempts to start vehicle, over course of an hour, vehicle spit out cloud of black smut before cutting off again.vehice was tolled following day. The next day i was informed kia would not honor recall.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact was driving 60 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted but the failure recurred as the contact was attempting to drive uphill.the contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test.the dealer stated to the contact that the vehicle needed a software update.the failure mileage was 600.

Engine leaking and cat catalytic converter doesn't seam right

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph when the transmission downshifted and caused the vehicle to decelerate abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that they were unable to duplicate the failure. This failure recurred at least three times since the purchase of the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified who advised that they could not repair a vehicle that the dealer was unable to diagnose. The failure mileage was 860.

I stopped my car at top of my steep driveway, pulled up emergency brake, put car in park but left car running to listen to song on radio. I saw a problem in my yard, opene the door, took care of problem then got partiallu back in the car to cut off engine. As soon as i switched off the engine the car started rolling backwards, still in park with the emergncy brake up and my left leg dragging the ground as it rolled across the street and into my neighbors bedroom. It is a very costly accident. All was fine until i cut off the engine so i think that cutting off the engine cause a glitch in the electronic transmission to cause it to go into neutral while still showing in park.

I was taking my aunt to the doctors office, she is older and forgot to attach her seat belt.i happened to look over and pulled over so she could attach her belt.however, there was no warning light or buzzer to indicate that the passenger seat belt was not attached.i took my car to the local dealer and they were amazed that there was no warning.after checking my car and another kia of the same year, i was advised that none of the kia souls have a warning system for the front passenger seat.is this a mistake by kia or are they not required to have an alarm indicating that the passenger seat belt is not engaged?the driver seat warning does work properly.

Hello.. I am a little upset. I was involved in a vehicle accident at the speed of 40mpg. The air bags did not deploy, and the seatbelt did not lock. I ended up hitting my chin and jaw on the steering wheel.the major damage to my car is front passenger side.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle hydroplaned, drove off the road, and landed in a ditch. The rear driver's side seat belt knob separated and caused the passenger to sustain scratches to the left leg, arms, chin, and chest. The passenger was transported to the hospital. The contact stated that the radiator and front bumper were damaged. Police report number: 9630 was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 88,000.

My son was sitting in the right rear seat of a 2012 kia soul when it was rear ended by a honda crv going 35-40 mph. The impact pushed the kia into the subaru in front of them setting off both airbags in the front. The seat belt my son was wearing did not lock or retract. He hit his head on the back headrest went forward into the headrest on the front seat and then back into his headrest. The seat belt did nothing to restrain his movement during the accident. The kia was totaled by the insurance company.

My car (manual transmission) has repeatedly started rolling when parked in 1st car with the e-brake pulled.two weeks ago it almost ran over my son.he screamed and strangers ran and stopped the car from rolling on my son.it has started rolling like this multiple times when i was certain the brake was fully pulled and the car was in 1st gear.i have been in the car when it has done this and can confirm first hand this problem.

The side brakes do not illuminate so the safety of yourself and others are at risk. Went out without any warning signs of failure. Third light works fine on top.

We were traveling down a rural road in kentucky.a deer ran out in front of us.we struck the deer at approximately 57 mph.there was considerable damage to the front end of the vehicle and it was not drivable.our airbags did not deploy.

The brakes on all four wheel are "extremely" sensitive. This is not brakes grabbing, it is the the slightest pressure on the brake pedal brings braking system on "hard".in a panic stop situation it is very difficult to control the light touch to the brake pedal without over braking.the deal said this is normal. I say bs, this isn't my first new car.in a nut shell, the braking system is to sensitive making it difficult to control correct stopping distance.

Operational warning lights for brakes-stability control-anti-lock brakes. I have returned to dealer 3 times and they were unable to fix. This creates a safety concern.i.e. Do these systems function as required when driving conditions present themselves.

Loud clunk on turning the wheel sounds like coupling is faulty. Occurs stationary and moving though appears to decrease when moving faster. Concerned this is a significant safety issue for the vehicle.

When i turn my steering wheel, there is a clunking noise.research indicates that there is a well known issue with a disintegrated rubber bushing in the electric steering motor and there is a recall due to this safety issue.why is my car not covered?

Steering column is loose.

Steering column coupler to mdps is of poor design and fails prematurely. Kia has recalled the same part in the optimas in the same years and future models have been affected as well. If not replaced the steering column can completely disconnect from the steering wheel and result in a complete loss of control. This has not directly happened if the parts are replaced due to the other symptoms of knocking or clicking but is a significant design flaw for using inferior plastics in critical component of driving control.reference tsb cha 44-2014, cha 74-2016

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving and when making turns, the steering column made an abnormal popping noise. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to kia of south austin (located at 5306 s ih 35 frontage rd, austin, tx 78745, (512) 444-6635) where it was diagnosed that the flex coupler on the steering column failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Steering column making popping sound. Has some play. Is same description as those file for the 2013vto 2015 model year where the yoke nut is loose allowing the rack and pinion to seperate. Happens both during stationary and motion movement of the vehicle

Around 60,000 miles i began to notice a clunking noise in the steering column. It started out minimal, only happening slightly when i would turn the wheel (this was both when the car was stationary and in motion). It has progressively become worse and now on top of the clunking noise when turning, my wheel shakes violently when i reach a speed of 70 mph.

Steering column makes a rather loud knocking noise as it's being while the car is stationary and when it's in motion. Steering coupler should be recalled not made for the consumer to foot the bill on inferior products.

Steering noise caused be a bad piece in steering linkage. Plastic piece which makes steering loose and possible loss of steering. Kia admitted to me it's a problem which is common. But not covered by warranty after 50.00 miles. This is a safety issue and they are aware of it. It demands a recall for safety reasons. It also is on hyundi products. Safety issue! factory aware of danger! recall mandated!

I am shy of hitting 80k miles on my soul 79795 to be exact. I have noticed that within the past couple of weeks my steering wheel has been 'clicking' whether in a stationary position or in motion. How is there no recall or tsb on this as i have been doing my research and there are numerous vehicles with this issue! this is an accident waiting to happen!! i have yet to take it to the dealership but to top it off the warranty is out. Local mechanics will not attempt to touch it! someone please start a recall or a tsb!

Takata recall i took my car to firestone to have an oil change and check the breaks. I was told when i turn the car left it makes a god awful noise and the wheel shakes. I have a 75000 mike warranty on it. This better be covered. I see a lot of complaints about this same issue and it should be a recall. This is ridiculous.

Steering wheel loose and clicking while driving. Felt loose while stationery. Local auto shop replaced mdps flex coupling. It was totally worn out. Car had less than 37,000 miles. Apparently 2014 vehicles were recalled for this.

The steering wheel makes a clunking noise. I noticed there have been recalls issued for the steering but not yet for the 2012. Don't you think this is also a problem? i am very afraid to drive it like this. The noise happens when the car is parked and on and also when driving, and has a lot of "play" in the wheel when moving! please help!!

Steering wheel makes a loud popping noise it is getting worse by the day.the lights flicker when turned on inside and outside the vehicle.

The steering wheel is shaking and making a loud noise when driving.

I have 80000 miles on my 2012 kia soul and the steering column is very noisy and seems to be on the verge of disintegrating and leaving me without the ability to steer the car. The dealership admitted that there is a problem with it but refuse to fix it since it outof warranty.

While driving various speeds, there was a clicking noise coming from the steering column when the steering wheel was turned left or right. Also, an unknown warning indicator illuminated. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred periodically. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 165,000.

My vehicle started making a clunking/clicking sound from the steering column area when turning the steering wheel right or left. The noise/sound quickly started getting louder in a short amount of time/mileage. The steering also started getting looser as the sound increased. This occurred both while setting still or while in motion. The repair shop had to replace a faulty steering coupler (56315-2kooofff) for about $225.00. After the replacement the sound/noise and looseness are gone.

Steering wheel has developed significant "play" in being able to move 1-2 inches either way with an audible clunk when it reaches the point of actually engaging the steering mechanism.there are multiple reported incidences of steering column problems on the 2012 kia soul that have usually been linked to a faulty steering coupler (http://www.carproblemzoo.com/kiamotor/soul/steering-column-problems.php).later year models have been recalled for steering column problems, but not the 2012.

Clicking in steering when driving or sitting still.

At 58,000 miles the soul started to make a creaking sound when turning wheel sharply to right or left.i took it in to kia service at kia west in orlando.they diagnosed that rack and pinion was defective and had to be replaced = $997.09 (including the alignment it needed afterwards) -- i know the2013 kia souls were recalled for safety for this very same problem and even though there are numerous complaints - kia has not recalled the 2012 kia soul for rack and pinion defects.

My 2012 kia soul is making a clunking noise from the steering column at low speeds and when above 70mph when turned slightly left or right.it appears to be the flex coupler in the power steering.this started a few weeks back. Kia has recalled newer models that use the same part but will not take ownership for 2012 models.this is on kia.god forbid if my daughter is injured in accident due to the negligence of kia!

When stationary or in motion my daughter's 2012 kia soul makes a clicking noisecoming from what feels like in the steering wheel. After looking into this deeper it is the rubber coupler at the electric steering assist.there are recalls for other years and models so both kia and hyundai both know of the problem but will not repair all vehicles. I hear it's an $8 part and $400 for labor through the dealer. What a great income stream for them!!

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving 35 mph, the steering wheel shook. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to crown kia (5500 34th st n, st petersburg, fl 33714 (727) 525-5785). The cause of the failure was waiting to be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

The steering wheel makes a knocking noise when turning and when stationary. The steering wheel feels like it's moving on it's own, i have to hold it very steady to keep control. I inquired about this issue and was told the steering coupler needs to be replaced, and it would cost $200. This is clearly a defect in these model cars based on the volume of complaints about the same thing. I started noticing it around 70k miles. This should be addressed as a recall. It's a safety issue.

The contact owns a 20012 kia soul. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized when the engine was started. The engine had to be restarted several times in order for the contact to be able to unlock the steering wheel. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who replaced the steering column however the failure was not corrected.the manufacture was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 2,432 and the current mileage is 6,100updated 11/12/13

"takata recall" the steeringwheel is making a clicking noise when turning to the right or left. Kia said there was no recall on this. As time goes on it is getting worse and if one day something happens to me you will hear from a lawyer and my daughters. I got a estimate for the repairs and it will be over $200.00 . This would be less then a lawsuit.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle stalled with the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact pulled off of the roadway and the turned the vehicle off. The vehicle failed to restart.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

The steering column makes a clunking noise when being turned, while stationary or moving. 90,000 miles on car, afraid the steering may give out... Has been getting progressively worse since initial clunking began at about 70,000 miles

I took in because steering to right, there is a clucking noise coming from steering wheel, my mechanic checked on found nothing stated was a dealer recall but there is one for kia 2012 soul however many complaints about it. There is a recall on other vehicles.

Steering makes a clicking noise and feels like it might lock up at low speeds.

Knocking in the steering column lead to steering coupling being damaged. Steering failed when driving over speeds of 65. Almost died. No warning. Auto body shop explained noise

I recently noticed when stopped that the steers no wheel makes a clunking sound when steer no left to right and back again and has a little play like it's not catching. Also i recently had brake lights replaced and it quickly burned out on the bottom half of the drivers side brake light.

Steering wheel loose and clicking while driving. Felt loose while stationery. Local auto shop replaced mdps flex coupling. It was totally worn out. Car had less than 39,000 miles. Apparently 2014 vehicles were recalled for this. Also kia optima's flex joints were replaced free at the kia dealership.this kia soul unes the fame flex joint.

Clunking when turning, now the steering column is loose

The steering column "clunks" when turned and when driven on uneven roads. It was taken in for repairs but i was told there is nothing wrong with the steering column. Also had to replace the passenger cv joint mount.

My steering is clunky and has a lot of movement-play i took it to my dealer and he told me i have to replace parts for my car is out of warranty but with after researching this i would assume that kia would have recalled this as it is a dangerous function to go wrong

When stopped the steering wheel makes a loud clunking noise when move from right to left and back.. While driving has a back and forth clunking movement felling as if the vehicle was being drive over a road laced with small bumps in it. It would appear that the mdps flex coupling has deteriorated and presents a major safety issue. The 2014 kia soul was recalled for this same problem.this is a major life threatening issue.

Clicking sound heard when turning steering wheel whether i'm driving or sitting still.

Steering wheel initially starting sticking when trying to change lanes or turn. Now the wheel clicks when turned in either direction

I have a 2012 kia soul that has 75,000 miles on it and has started making the highly complained about clunking noise and shifting/loose sensation in the upper steering column when turning wheel back and forth from left to right whether stationary or driving. It has also for some time been experiencing the shaking steering wheel at around 80 mph that has complaints. I am a former mechanic and through reading all the similar complaints and seeing symptom/repair videos i have diagnosed my clunking steering column to be caused by a failed steering coupler. This is a problem that has been recalled by kia on other vehicles but not on 2012 soul.this steering coupler issue should have kia recalling all vehicles that have reports of this failure. I am loosing faith in kia motors. I should not have to replace this part on my time/money.

Defective steering flexible coupler. Caused my steering wheelto loosen up.

About three weeks ago, while sitting in the car letting it warm up and while driving on the city streets iheard a cluncking sound in the sterering column when turing left and right and the sound is present currently. I am afraid the steering wheel will lock up or come off while i am driving!

There has been a clicking noise when turning the wheel to either side, whiling driving or in still mode. It seems as this has also been an issue with later motels as their was a recall involving the steering system for years 2014 - 2016. From research, there have been many talk from 2012 kia soul owners having to have their coupler in the steering wheel column replaced due to possible safely issues.

Knocking sound when turning steering wheel slightly to either left or right.i was told it is a bad coupler within the steering column that needs to be replaced and it will probably become a recall because the dealership has had many customers with the same issue.

My steering wheel makes a clunking noise, and you can feel it. I am taking it to be fixed, but i noticed a recall for the same issue that does not include my model year. Should it though?

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact heard an abnormal noise when the steering wheel was turned in either direction. In addition, there was a strong vibration coming from the steering wheel while the vehicle was in operation. A dealer had not diagnosed the failure. An independent mechanic was not contacted. The manufacturer had not issued any recalls for the electric power steering; however, there were six tsbs for the steering. The contact was uncertain if there was a permanent remedy from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired . The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

2012 kia soul with 20,000 miles: steering makes a clunking noise and has a lot of play in it.even when sitting still, the steering wheel makes a clunking noise and has too much play.when driving it also has play and makes clunking noise.other kia souls have recalls, this year should also.

Clunking noise in steering column.failure of steering coupling

Steering wheel locking at speed very dangerous is unsafe to drive vehicle.

Steering wheel / column loose and locks up while driving on highway. Almost caused an accident. Apparently this is a historical problem with the kia soul as previous documentation/complaints to nhtsa and kia. Waiting to see what coral springs kia will do to fix their problem under warranty.31,000 miles on vehicle 2012 kia soul.

Car has just over 60k miles. Knocking in the steering wheel area when turning the steering wheel left or right. The knocking occurs while driving at any speed, highway or city streets. If sitting in neutral with engine on, turn the steering wheel left or right and you feel and hear the knocking sound.

2012 kia soulwith 15,000 miles: steering makes a clunking noise and has a lot of play in it. Even when sitting still. When driving it also has play and makes clunking noise. Took it to dealership and was told the coupler is bad, and that its a common problem.the fee to fix is $200, and not covered by warranty because i'm not the original owner, even though the mileage is so low. Other kia souls have recalls, this year should as well.

When you turn the steering wheel it's making a clicking sound and every time you go over a bump it makes the steering wheel shake

Kia flexible steering coupler 56315-2k000fff completely failed 12/2018. Same complaint as hundreds of other owners of 2012 kia souls. Plastic steering coupler completely falls apart cause extremely dangerous play and bad banging while turning in either direction. Going over road holes, speed bumps and even road reflectors cause the steering wheel to pull in either direction as well as drifting issues. Defective part will eventually cause breakdown of electric power steering unit. Kia dealership in lake wales, fl quoted $450 to replace the $10 star shaped coupler stating the costs are mainly in labor. These repair costs should not be the responsibility of the owner.the part should not be considered normal wear and tear. It is a poor design on the part of kia.the 2012 soul should be included along with the 2014-2016 recalls currently in effect for the exact issue.i also own a 2015 soul and have received my recall notice for the coupler repair. (we also own a 2017 sportage)why are the 2012 owners being left out and disregarded? the part is the same, the labor is the same and the potential danger and further damage is the same. Kia should step up to the plate and do the right thing before a class action lawsuit is filed and cost them a substantial amount more.kia's lack of customer care, concern and commitment to the 2012 owners is disrespectful and shameful. I truly and sincerely hope kia will take notice of our complaints and plea and help us.

My steering wheel started making this clunking noise it had 50000 mile on it, took it to my kia dealer, the told me it was a flexible coupling and they wanted to charge to replace it that my warranty ran out, i said thats a safety issue they said its not, i just got my car and went home.i foynd out that alot of kia models had that problem and the were given a call back letter. It make no sense its the excat same part has the one called back, pluss if it doesnt get fixed i could lose my sterring the car has 52000 miles on. How can they recall model after 2013 and not 2012.

Steering suddenly became loose with a "click" on either side of play.was told by kia dealer that the steering column had to be replaced at a cost of $1843.if i didn't fix it, my steering might go out at any time. Kia covered the same problem with recalls on later models but refused to cover this because of vehicle age, even though it's not a mileage or age issue, it's a dangerous design flaw.i've found dozens of identical complaints online.

The contact owned a 2012 kia soul. While driving at an unknown speed, a vehicle in front depressed the brakes abruptly causing the driver to crash into the rear of the preceding vehicle. As a result, the driver merged onto oncoming traffic and crashed into two other vehicles. The driver was fatally injured. The driver of the first vehicle that was impacted also sustained fatal injuries. The front passenger in the first vehicle sustained shock trauma and the child seated in the rear sustained unknown injuries. There were two injuries in the second vehicle. All injured occupants required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot where it currently was pending an inspection to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was deemed destroyed. Prior to the crashes, the front passenger side tire blew out. The dealer diagnosed that the tire needed to be replaced and it possibly encountered an object in the road, which caused the blow out. The front passenger side tire was replaced. Prior to the failure, the contact took the vehicle to a dealer where the front passenger side tire was replaced. After retrieving the vehicle, the steering wheel felt abnormal. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

My 2012 kia soul steering started to make a clunking sound.the steering wheel also felt loose .the vehicle has 81,465 miles on it.i first noticed it yesterday.i brought the soul to my local dealership the next day.the steering coupling had failed (fp# 56315-2k000fff).cost of the repair was $432.60 after the kia dealership applied a 15% costco discount.the part is only $7 but it's the labor that increases the cost of the repair. Many other people have reported the same problem to nhtsa.another kia vehicle (i believe the optima) uses the same coupler and that vehicle has a recall notice.the 2012 soul uses the same coupler as the recalled vehicle but does not have a recall issued.any 2012 soul that uses this coupling should be recalled.loss of steering could happen if this coupling fails completely. The coupling that failed in my 2012 soul felt soft and could be easily be squeezed.the new coupling that replaced it felt much harder.apparently, the new coupling is made from a different material.i have attached photos of the failed coupling.this coupling should be a recall issue.

"clunking" play in steering began recently which is reportedly failure of the steering coupler..kia recalled 2014-26 twice and there is an extended warranty for replacement of option 11-14 optima's .. Nothing for 2012 soul except web pages of complaints of same problem. Cross referencing the part numbers shows that all these vehicles, including models outside their recall, use the same part yet kia is telling 2012 owners to pay for it out of pocket.. This safety hazard and a failure by the manufacturer that needs to be addressed immediately.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that the vehicle overheated while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was later towed to the contact's residence. The contact also stated that while driving on a curve and when making turns and going over speed bumps, the steering wheel made an abnormal sound. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

2012 kia soul steering coupler defect, attached is my receipt to repair a defective plastic steering coupling that resulted in a steering hazard (shimmying, shaking, vibrating) while making a road trip tofl. Unfortunately kia corporate refuses to accept this as a defect issue even though they extended their kia optimawarranty on this defect due to the amount of problems generated through complaints. The service tech at kia i spoke with confirmed they had received complaints about the soul steering coupling but couldn't say how many complained or how many complaints would be needed to affect a recall so i had to incur a $300+ expense to have it replaced. Please contact me @ [xxx]. My email is [xxx]. Thank you for your assistance.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that the steering was faulty and extremely loose. The contact had to use excessive strength to steer. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 19,000.

Steering wheel clicks and has give at low speeds (like while parking or taking corners slowely) and at high speeds (70mph +). Taken to kia dealer, and coupler needs to be replaced. Kia recalled later models with same parts and optimas with same parts, but not 2012 souls. It's the same part that was replaced for free in other models, but 2012 isn't covered.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, there was an abnormal clicking noise detected while turning the steering wheel in either direction. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 190,000.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that the steering column made an abnormal noise and was not operable. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering column and gear needed to be replaced. It was unknown if the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. The vin was not provided.

Steering wheel coupler failure. Steering wheel make clunking noise when turning in either direction.

Flexible coupling is damaged, steering wheel noisy, rattling noise, worry about safety steering might not work and cause accident or death due to malfunction. Went to dealership and told me it would cost $200.00 and it is likely that it would do it again. Very disappointed with kia vehicles , definitely would never buy a kia vehicle again.

The steering wheel is loose with much "play" in steering and a clicking noise from the steering lock. This happens both stationary with the car on in park and when driving. The vehicle shakes when braking. I do not have full control over the steering. When i brake at speeds over about 30mph. I have had alignment done and suspension checked and it is not apparently the issue. I now have a loud rubbing noise coming from the steering wheel when i turn left or right. The clicking and looseness and rubbing noise is present when the car is idle or being driven in city or highway.

I can feel slack play in the upper steering that make a knocking sound when turning the steering wheel left or right when stationary, moving, in town or on the highway. Also on interstate when i reach approximately 60 mph a vibration in the front end starts and increases with speed. It gets to an intensity that i dont feel safe driving over sixtyfive mph

Steering is loose and makes clunk sound. Called kia and said no recalls?????out of warranty. This is a accident waiting to happen.

I have a 2012 kia soul+ that has 80,000 miles on it and has started making the highly complained about clunking noise and shifting/loose sensation in the upper steering column when turning wheel back and forth from left to right whether stationary or driving. It has also for some time been experiencing the shaking steering wheel at around 80 mph that has complaints. I am a former mechanic and through reading all the similar complaints and seeing symptom/repair videos i have diagnosed my clunking steering column to be caused by a failed steering coupler. This is a problem that has been recalled by kia on other vehicles but not on 2012 soul. I am interested to find out if this coupler is also behind my shaking steering wheel at higher speeds. Shaking is not due to tires, wheels, or alignment/parts problems as problem was same before i just put new tires on and had balance/alignment done. Also was no different between several tire rotations of old tires. This steering coupler issue should have kia recalling all vehicles that have reports of this failure. I am loosing faith in kia motors. I should not have to replace this part on my time/money.

Clunking and clicking in steering.same as several other complaints.kia needs to recall for this serious safety defect.

The steering wheel is very loose and makes a grinding noise.

My steering wheel started making this clunking noise it had 44,507 mile on it,took it to my kia dealer, the told me it was aflexible coupling and they wanted to charge to replace it that my warranty ran out, i said thats a safetyissue they said its not, i just got my car and went home.ifoynd out that alot of kia models had that problem and the were given a call back letter. It make no sense its the excat same part has the one called back, pluss if it doesnt get fixed i could lose my sterringthe car has 44000 miles on it

Clunking in the steering column turning right and left. Feels loose. Happens while driving or stationary.

We traveled from tennessee to florida and the steering kept locking-up on the kia soul.we went to galeana kia in ft. Myers, fl and told them that ?when driving on the highway steering wheel just locks going straight and has to have applied pressure to turn right or left?.galeana kia did this on 12/4/2012:verify intermittent p/s assist inop.remove p/s column & assist unit.applied stabilant 22 to all connectors.remove control wiring harness.remove ipm module. Remove & test hecu.found stripped bolt in ground gng10 loose ground.remove & rethreaded ground clean paint.notified tl.on the return trip back to tennessee, the steering started locking-up again.on 12/28/2012, we took the car the rusty wallace kia, and complained again about the steering.they kept the car for two days and returned to car to us and told us to drive it and call them if we still had the problem. On 1/17/2013, the steering started locking up again ? more often.on 1/21/2013, the steering is still locking up and i call rusty wallace kia to take it in for more service. I have contacted kia headquarters ([xxx]) about this steering problem and have case #[xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The steering became very loose and started clanking when the steering wheel was turned in either direction while in motion on a city street travelling at less than 40 mph. The car had less than 80k miles on it at the time.

Steering wheel makes clicking noise when turning.

2012 kia soul now making a clunking, clicking or popping noise when turning the steering wheel right or left with slight play in the wheel.upon researching online what it could be i have discovered complaints all over the web of the same issue.people being told by mechanics if not fixed it may cause accidents due to steering failure, but that kia refuses to correct the problem or recall these vehicles despite being aware of the issue for years now.

Steering is making a loud clunking noise when the steering wheel is turned. Dealer service dept says it is a coupler must be fixed before i lose the ability to steer. I am afraid to even drive the vehicle to the dealer since it could lose steering. The car only has 31000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving approximately 45 mph and attempting to turn, the contact heard a clicking noise coming from the steering column. The contact had to force the steering wheel in order to complete the turn. The contact also stated that the failure began approximately one month ago and occurred even when the vehicle was not being driven. The failure worsened and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but they were not able to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was driven to bill bryant kia (9039 us-441, leesburg, fl 34788), but the contact was told to leave since she did not have an appointment. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

2012 kia soul. Consumer states power steering failure *tgwthe consumer stated the first time the power steering failed, the dealer was able to find an error code of 300 electrical and they replaced the steering motor.on jan 13, 2012 as the consumer was pulling out of his driveway, he discovered the power steering failed again. He stopped, turned off the ignition and waited five seconds and then turned it back on. It appeared to work fine after that.on jan. 201, 12, as the consumer was exiting a parking lot, the power steering failed again. He stopped, turned off the ignition and waited 10 seconds and then turned it back on again. It appeared to work fine afterwards .

I own a 2012 kia soul. I know a recall was issued for a steering problem for 2013-15. My car has the same problem. There was a pop and my steering is loose. We called kia and they told me i have to pay to get it fixed. It has been proven that there is a problem with the steering system on their cars. Mine now has it. It should be fixed at their expense like they did the others. The car was being driven when the pop happened and there is a lot of play in the steering. We have hardly been driving the car because we are afraid. The problem is really bad if you try to turn it to the left.

I own a 2012 kia soul + with 39,000 miles on it. I recently heard a clunking in the steering column when the wheel is turned from left to right while stationary and while driving. Research shows it to be the steering coupler. There has been a recall on this coupler in other kia models but not the 2012 kia soul. The dangers of loosing steering because of this coupler are the same no matter what vehicle you are driving i therefore cannot understand why there is not a recall for the 2012 kia soul as well as any models with this same coupler. Seems to me kia is getting off the hook for this model year and it doesn't seem right to me. Please look into this and i hope you will seethat the dangers involvingthe failure of this part is safety matter that deserves a recall for the 2012 model as it has for other models with the same coupler.

The steering wheelhas started to make a clicking nose when the steering wheel is turned left or right. The nose happens when the car is both stationary and when moving. There are several other complaints like this by others on the internet. 2014-2016 models of the same make and model have actually already been recalled for a strong problem with the"pinion wheel", although the problem with the 2012 models may be with the"steering coupler". Doesn't seem safe and i'm not the only one experiencing this problem upon further research.

When car is running and in park turning the steering wheel an inch or so in either direction is very loose at first till it begins to become firm and you hear a thud. The amount of play is about an inch going to the right or to the left.

My 2012 kia soul power steering is almost lock it is very hard to turn

Steering is making a banging noise and seems to be getting loose. Getting worse by the day. This is most profound when vehicle is standing still and you turn steering wheel slightly from left to right.

The steering wheel became loose with much "play" in steering and a clicking noise from the steering lock. This happens both stationary with the car on in park and when driving. I have had alignment and suspension checked and it is not apparently the issue. Apparently the steering shaft becomes loose where it is coupled with the steering gear/rack. This loose steering is very dangerous as when steering around curves the car steering actually pulls on the road so i now go much slower around curves than is posted on speed signs to avoid loosing control of my vehicle. When i go over uneven roads or bumps the car also shifts and pulls as i do not have full control over the steering. When i brake at speeds over about 40mph i notice that there is also this same play in the steering so i make sure i am considerably a far distance behind another vehicle in order to stop slowly. I feel that this is a very dangerous problem with the 2012 kia soul and have noticed upon researching online that the kia optima has a similar problem which was eventually recalled for repair. I have contacted kia customer service as well as my kia dealer with this complaint and was told that since my car was over the warranty miles there was nothing they could do regarding repairs.

Took a left turn and the car made a clank noise. Now when you turn the steering wheel there is this clankingnoise when you turn the wheel left and my steering wheel feels really loose. The wheel can turn some before the car starts turning. Kia recalled 2014 and 2015 for this problem. People were losing control and crashing. I am paying for this car and can't afford to park itbut i am afraid i will loose my steering. Why isn't all of the souls being recalled? i have seen where there are 10 steering complaints. Isn't one to many? especially since the 2014-2015s had these problems. Why didn't they go back farther?

Dashboard lights came on and car wouldn't start. Had car towed tokia of bowie md., who did a diagnostic and replaced electrical panel which cost estimated $200.00 dollars including diagnostic. Kia ofbowie never called andwheni finally contacted someone a week later, they stated the steering column was out and would cost approximate $2000.00 and that's the part. Car has only 70.000 miles.

Clicking in the steerling wheel. Pulling and jiggling (no it's not the alignment)

The steering is makinga loud clonking noise while turning, stationary or driving, worst on the highway. I replaced and balanced the tires but still doing it. It's scary. I see there are more reports of the same problem.

Upon driving there is a clanking noise coming from steering wheel advise by mechanic that he was aware of this noise and that to contact kia as there was a recall looked up and advised by kia no.afraid to drive car as it sounds that the steering wheel is going to come off

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated while driving 55-65 mph, the steering wheel vibrated and made a knocking sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving various speeds, an abnormal noise was heard coming from the steering column and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to west palm beach kia (735 s military trail, west palm beach, fl), but was not diagnosed or repaired since there were no recalls attributed to the vin. The manufacturer was notified, confirmed that there were no recalls, and documented the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 74,751.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. While driving approximately 2 mph, the steering wheel made a clunking sound. The vehicle was taken to aloha kia (94-169 farrington hwy, waiphau, hawaii 96819) where it was diagnosed that the steering column failed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

The hood disengaged while my 76 year old mother was driving down the highway and smashed against the windshield.the dealership said it happens sometimes and charged her $3,500 to fix it.it broke loose twice after that while she was driving but didn't fly up against the windshield.she took it in both times and they said nothing was wrong with it.i called kia customers service on 9/12 and they said they'd call me back in 48 hours but never did.i called back on 9/18 and they said they'd call me back in 48 hours but never did.i called back on 10/3 and they said they'd call back in 48 hours and then i finally received a voicemail on 10/15 asking to call them back.i called back and received the person's voicemail on 10/16, 10/22, 10/24 and 10/25.no response at all.they are ignoring me.i went online and found other complaints about the hoods disengaging on kia souls.my mother is terrified to drive her car.this is a serious safety issue that could obviously kill someone.yet kia doesn't seem to care.i don't know where else to turn.

5/6/2016 traveling on 2nd rd apprx speed 35 mph, hood flew up hit windshield lack of traffic avoided collision. Almost 1 year to day later on freeway entry ramp i-65 nashville tn, 5pm traffic, apprx 45mph.. 1st episode had left home and only on road for a few mintues so assumed was something we had done to unlatch hood. 2nd episodewe had been traveling for 3 hours already so there was nothing we could have done to cause this.. We took to local dealer where purchased car when we returned to jackson tennessee and they examined and show it is a broken latch (obviously) but they did not feel was their concern. As there is already a recall on the same year kia sedona for hood latch defects, it is a major concern to me that this should be looked into to avoid injury or death of another individual

The right windshield side molding flew off twice so far.the second time at about 62000 miles while traveling about 65 mph.the dealer replaced and installed the first one free, the second one cost me about $105.00 and was also installed by the dealer.

2012 kia soul with less than 15,000 miles on it suddenly burst into flames and the car is a total loss .

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v822000 (structure) and was unable to schedule the recall repair within a reasonable time frame. The manufacturer was unable to supply the contact with a local authorized dealer to perform the repair. The manufacturer expected the contact to ship the vehicle to the state of florida and then ship the vehicle back to the contact's state after the recall repair, which was unreasonable. The contact was unable to determine when the vehicle would be repaired and had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

We were traveling down a rural road in kentucky.a deer ran out in front of us.we struck the deer at approximately 57 mph.there was considerable damage to the front end of the vehicle and it was not drivable.our airbags did not deploy.

Driving down the road and the hood latch broke causing the hood to fly up and wrap around the window shield. I had the presence of mind to move it to the side of the road and call for help. I was traveling app. 55 miles an hour, on a secondary paved road.

Hood blew back broke my windshield and bent my fenders broke my the secondary latch is bent and the lock did not hold

Driving south on i65 between gardendale, al and birmingham, al. At approximately 60 mph - clear day, sunny appx 80 degrees at 11:00 am cst. Concrete roadway with expansion joints. Experienced violent gyrations - car literally bouncing off roadway. Slowed to 50 mph and moved vehicle to far left lane - roadway was smoother and car returned to a stable condition. The original lane was rougher. But the car became very unstable to the point of fearing that i would lose control. I was able to resume normal freeway speeds without further incidents. No apparent damage but i will have the suspension checked by the dealer.

The vehicle does not come with a spare tire of any kind. Instead you are given a small air compressor and a can of tire sealant. This will not help if you have a complete tire blow out. In that instance you would need to have the vehicle towed and taken to a tire dealer. If you are in a remote area, with no cell phone coverage you are stranded. (in my case, the dealer did not tell me that there was no spare. I discovered it after i'd had the vehicle for 2 months.)

Flat tire.kia service claimed a metal shard.problem is same thing occurred again 06/06/2012.flat tire.kia service claimed a metal shard.this is occurring in regular traffic, not construction etc.conclusion: tires aren't safe.

Blower to the ac/heater just quit working.. Turned car off at gas station ,got back in stayed and blower would no longer work.. Seems to be a common problem in the 2012 kia soul.

My car shut off in the middle of gas station won't crank back up

My uvoradio is fine 1 day and the next day it no longer has sound and the clock doesn't work, i have done a hard reset with no results.when researching how to fix, i find out this is a common problem with the kia souls, why isn't there a recall for so ,any complaints ?i just got in it 1 day to leave home and it no longer will work.. The back up camera hasn't worked forever and i bought this kia brand new and in 2019 when i was washing the kia at the car wash the cover of the backup camera fell off and their is corrosion all over it, i would think from a faulty seal

This problem is strange.i purchased a used 2012 kia soul this year.i took it to have the 60k maintenance done.the service agent at 2 different places verified and entered our vin.it doesn't exist in their system.after searching for months for some type of help we found that the car was sold in guam.it is an american standard vehicle.it was verified by both service associates.now this vehicle may be subject to a recall that has killed people.i can't have the work done because it doesn't exist in kia's system.so now we don't know what to do.no one at kia knows what to do.i have been given different numbers in multiple countries to call.i can't call any of them.it's not available on my carrier or any of the other carriers i've tried.the kia service department staff have failed to provide any meaningful help.we are worried that the car will catch fire at some random point.our engine light has come on multiple times.

Had to replace engine

Esc light problem

Rear camera disabled when washed

Vehicle suffered sudden loss of performance, would only accelerate sluggish, rpm would not go beyond 2500 rpm, had to get vehicle towed to dealership, lost driveability.

My 2012 kia soul caught fire july 13th with my son driving. There was a ticking in the motor, a loud noise, and then flames. We have the extended warranty but kia says it's an insurance issue and they can't/won't do anything about it. Now, not only are we without a car but we're stuck with payments for the next 2-3 years because insurance says it's not worth half or what we still owe on it. Thank god my son was okay but kia needs to be accountable.

Steering wheel vibrate uncontrollable when driving

While driving car is randomly stalling . Visited several service include kia service as well nobody knows whats wrong. It's dangerous to drive when during driving the car just stalls all of the sudden.

Refrigerant oil leaking from ac compressor

When put in reverse it makes a popping noise and sometimes as well in other gears contacted the dealship where i gotit from in 6/19 and he said it should be fine, i contacted before my 30 day warranty expired as well but it is still doing it. I noticed it doing it a few days after i got it. The noise appears after the auto lock ,

Backup camera stopped working just out of warranty.

Driving my car about 65 mph down a long stretch highway in the woods heard this loud noise saw black in the right upper side of my wind shield. Thought i hit a black bird safely pulled over got out saw no blood on the car or feathers. Looked closer a black plastic mold had come off and caused the loud noisy got in my car went back down the road and located it was broke up pretty good. Come home did some research it is called a pillar. It was the passenger side. This could cause a serious accident. Please look into this. Their was no reason the pillar should have become detached . When i did my research i noticed this has happened to other people not just me.

Had to replace engine

The computer system for the radio had a service advisory instead of a recall, so i wasn't notified by mail. But the problem is that in addition to the radio, it affects the backup camera and eventually the dashboard, making both of them inoperable. The repairmen at ford kia in richmond, ca tried to play this off like it's not a serious problem. But if the dashboard controls are useless when driving down the highway, and you need to try and pull over to restart the car, that is a problem waiting to happen.updated 10/05/2017

Sat. 8-24-13, around 3:20 pm, i went out to my 2012 kia soul parked on the street, in part-shade, in a residential area of centerville, oh.the windows were cracked, and the temp outside was in the mid-80's.i opened my front door & put in my beach bag.i then opened the back door, and closed the front door, when i heard a 'boom'.the back glass on the hatch back exploded from the middle & laced everywhere else, leaving a hole in the middle about 2 feet wide.everyone at the scene stated that they had never seen a window break in that way, from heat or whatever, and it was their feeling that it had to be a 'defect' in the glass.i wasn't quite sure what to do, so i called 411 information & asked for the kia dealership in centerville.they gave me the number to the dealership in huber heights.i spoke to the gm, who answered the phone &i explained the situation.kia has a 60,000 mile, bumper to bumper warranty, that is boasted about as one of the best in the industry.i figured with it being a fluke, and not like brakes or tires that had normal wear & tear, that it would of course be covered.the gm proceeded to tell me that it wasn't, and that they couldn't help me but that i could bring it in on monday, as the service center was closed at this time.i asked if he could give me the number to the centerville dealership, as they gave me the wrong number.he stated that he didn't have their number & that it wasn't convenient for him to get it either.i stated that it was less convenient for me, as i was on the side of the road.he still refused to help me in any way get the number to the other dealership where i purchased my car.the back window will cost anywhere from $265 - $440 to replace.wow !!

My car's heater assembly control has failed and in doing so my car's heater defaulted to cold and face making it impossible to defrost the windshield. Kia wants an astronomical fee to diagnose the problem and even more for the part and installation.

Driving down local street when a stone hit the windshield cracking it. Kia has a bumper to bumper warranty i called them to fix the windshield and was told that it was not covered. I then took the car and had it repaired by a glass company. The repair cost me only 37.50 but i have never had this happen before in any car or truck i owned. This is also the first new car and foreign car that i bought. I know this happens but! if kia is offering bumper to bumper warranties the windshield should be covered.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated the blower, which operated the air conditioner and defroster, malfunctioned. The windows did not defrost and impaired the field of vision. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer. The dealer replaced the under wire cable and the blower system, but none of the repairs remeded the failure. The contact also notified the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was 3,000. Updated 05/21/12the consumer stated the vehicle has been to the dealer seven times for the same problem. Updated 05/23/12

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated that while opening the sun roof, the button was depressed however, the sun roof stopped halfway opened. The button was depressed a second time and the sun roof opened completely. The vehicle was taken to casey kia (11999 jefferson ave, newport news, va 23606, (757) 347-8247) however, was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 10.

On april 23, 2015, we drove from our home in miami to north georgia. The first tire failed on the way to north georgia, near gainesville, fl. The second tire failed on the return trip near lennox, ga. As you can plainly see from the attached images, both tires appear to have failed in the exact same way. I still have the second tire in my possession if you feel an inspection is called for. At the time of the first 2 failures, the car had approximately 26,500 mileson september 5, 2015, a third tire failed in the exact same manner as the previous two. At this point i replaced the remaining 2 tires even though the fourth one had not yet failed. I still have these tires in my possession as well. At the time of this failure the car had approximately 28,000 miles. The vehicle was manufactured in december 2011 and sold as new to us in march 2012. Fortunately neither my wife nor i were injured during either of the failures and we make no claim for any injury. Also, the cost of towing our vehicle was covered by our car insurance, and we make no claim for that either. What we believe would be appropriate would be a reimbursement for the two replacement tires we were forced to purchase during our trip. The first replacement tire purchased in gainesville, fl cost $78.92. The second tire, purchased in adel, ga cost $101.58 for a total of $180.50. Additionally, because of theses failures, the reliability of the two remaining tires is questionable. We would like to have both remaining tires replaced at your company's expense.

Prior to previous service, i noticed lug nuts were beginning to rust. Summit place kia had one for this model and replaced the worst one and was to order a new set for all wheels as a warranty item. They were supposed to call me when these came in. Never received a phone call. I asked about this upon next servicing and they found that nobody had ever ordered the remaining lug nuts. I didn't worry about this between service appts. Since it appeared to only be surface rust at this point...no threat of danger, yet. The good people of the service department ordered the parts while i was standing there so we knew they'd gotten ordered and are to be replaced within the week. I've had 10-12 cars in my life and have never had a lug nut rust on a vehicle which is 2 model years old...especially on a garage-kept vehicle. Hopefully this next set does not follow suit or i'll be headed over to the parts store and will replace them myself.

The contact owns a 2012 kia soul. The contact stated the driver of the vehicle was traveling 35 mph when the tire failed. The tire pressure warning light also illuminated on the instrument panel. When the driver attempted to change the tire the vehicle was equipped with a repair kit instead of a spare tire. The repair kit was fix-a-flat and a dc air pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified and stated they were aware that some vehicles do not have spare tires. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7200.
