While driving on a rural highway, my son swerved to avoid a deer which had entered his path. Failing to regain control of the vehicle, he entered a roadside ditch with a steep embankment.the vehicle struck the opposite side embankment on the left front quadrant which resulted in severe damage to the vehicles front end. (the damage caused is nearly identical to the crash test provided on the iihs's website in which the drivers side airbag deployed).our drivers side airbag failed to deploy. Upon striking the opposite embankment and receiving the front end damage, the vehicle rolled completely at least one time. (according to the kia website, the side/curtain airbags should have deployed), however, that failed to happen as well.fortunately my son was wearing his seat belt, and walked away with minor injuries.the vehicle was purchased due to it's safety rating.no airbag deployment in a kia soul front end/rollover accident!

2010 kia soul was hit by plymouth neon as neon was exiting highway i-70 westbound at zumbehl rd in st charles, mo.neon failed to either stop at red light or yield right of way to my kia soul.the soul was hit on the right front completely tearing off the front bumper.the soul was spun counter clockwise and hit a second time in the right side rear passenger door.the impact sent the soul across 2 traffic lanes and across an approximately 6 inch high median curb into the path of oncoming traffic.neither the front airbags, nor the side airbags deployed and the front passenger impacted the side interior causing injuries.

"takata recall" the airbag did not deploy when the car was hit traveling south bound. A vehicle pulled out in front and could not avoid hitting the vehicle. Traveling on a straight way on city street. Insurance have totaled the vehicle.

S10 appropriate handling- copy of a letter addressed to the administrator regarding takata airbags.

In the midst of rush hour traffic, i had to suddenly stop.i apparently did not stop quick enough and rear ended the car in front of me.the air bags did not deploy.my left arm took part of the shock.i was traveling about 40 - 45 mph.the front end of my car collapsed, to a point that the driver side door would not freely open. At least two of the airbag sensors should have been affected.i have pictures.

I was hit right in front of the driver's side door by a driver that ran a red light going about 40 mph and the impact spun my car completely around.not one airbag deployed!then on april 30, 2011, right after getting my car back from being repaired, my friend was driving it and rear ended a car that slammed on their brakes quickly.not one airbag deployed for a second crash!

Auto se aceler causando accidente. Entrando al estacionamiento se aceler chocando con la pared del condominio

The airbag light stays on (driver side) and the passenger side flies on and off. Vehicle taken to dealer reports a new module needs to be installed but it would be charged to the owner. I disagree as this car has never been an accident and from reviewing complaints on line this is a known defect.

The contact owned a 2010 kia soul. While the contact's daughter was driving 30 mph, the vehicle was struck on the front driver's side near the headlight by another vehicle. The air bag did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact's daughter sustained a seat belt injury on her chest and a nose injury, which required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owned a 2010 kia soul. While driving 50 mph, a deer ran in front of the vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into the deer. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed and deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage and vin were unknown.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. While driving 10 mph, another vehicle crashed into the driver side door of the contact's vehicle. As a result, the air bags deployed and metal fragments discharged. The contact sustained a shoulder cut that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 22,000.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. While driving 65 mph the contact hit a deer which caused the driver side door to crush inward. None of the airbags in the vehicle deployed. There were no injuries. The current and failure mileages were 4276.

As i was driving north on i-95 it had started to rain. I was in the left lane of a two lane highway going 60 mph in a 70 mph zone when an 18 wheeler went by me going 85 mph or more. It pushed water on the road over into my lane and i felt my wheels begin to move. I let off the gas and gripped the wheel. My esc light never turned on. I hydroplaned from my lane into the right lane then back into my lane and off the road. The wheels lockedabout 20 feet off the road and the car tipped on the passenger side and hit a tree. I had my seatbelt on as i sat and dialed 911. My windshield was spiderwebbed, my hood of the car was up, and all my belongings were thrown on the right side of the car. I was wearing my prescription glasses and a headband and with the force of the hit, both were thrown off my face. As i sat in the car on the phone with 911 the car began to catch fire. I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out the door behind the driver. When i got out i realized not one air bag in my vehicle went off. Not even the side ones on the passenger side.

2010 kia soul traveling south on sc highway 905 at 9:45pm., rural highway when a vehicle pulled in front from a right side dirt access road. There was a front end crash to the kia soul resulting in total damage front the front bumper to the front dash board area.the air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle could not be driven and was towed. We rear-ended a 2004 expedition in our 2010 kia soul at 20mph. My wife sustained a "traumatic brain injury" as a result of the air bag wiring harness being cut in half (both sides) before the sensors were activated.i have photos of the wiring harness cut in the accident and the car.my 39 year old wife will now spend the rest of her life disabled. This is a dangerous car.kia states the airbags will not activate at 20mph.this is not a 5 star frontal impact design.the fuel shut off did not activate, 'all safety features failed'. I drove the car 1/4 mile to a parking lot after the wreck, onto a trailer later that day, off the trailer, back onto a trailer and off again.the dealer told us to pound sand and call kia if we weren't satisfied with the vehicle safety systems.

I purchased a 2010 kia soul and had it about two months when while driving the steering column came off. I took pictures, as i had no control over the wheels, i didn't realize it until my car wouldn't stop. I kept pushing down on the brakes and there was something in the way, that was when i realized it was the steering column. I contacted kia 24 hour roadside, they transported my vehicle to union city kia, where i found out from tony in the service center that my airbag needs to also be replaced in the steering wheel because it was non functional. This is day three, as this happened during the weekend, i called kia today about having a vehicle to stay mobile. I am still waiting on a call back, though my vehicle is covered under warranty, they are stating that i cannot have a loaner car or rental reimbursement.

09/09/2010 i was t-boned in a 2010 kia soul with 1822 miles on the odometer. The car that hit me was a murano going 45 mph. The impact was on the driver side quarter panel and driver door.i sustained a concussion from hitting the driver side window and some spectacular bruising on my left arm and shoulder.not one of the six airbags deployed.i purchased this car because of the safety rating and the number of airbags.today 01/16/2011 the car is still in the shop. Repairs have been a nightmare. The front driver side wheel was bent parallel to the ground.i am not a happy camper.*ln

I was playing the radio, when the sound went out.now whenever i turn the radio on, i sometimes hear a popping sound as if it is going to turn on but then it goes silent again.this happens while the vehicle is either stationary or in motion.

The factory provided keys for the car are integrated remote wireless entry key fobs and concealed ignition key. To reveal the key, a button on the fob is pressed and a spring loaded arm rotates the key out of the fob so it can be inserted into the steering column mounted ignition switch.on the day of the incident, after parking the car i went to turn off the ignition by rotating the key fob counter clockwise. When i did the armature that holds the key snapped off leaving the key in the ignition and the engine running. As only a small portion of the key remained exposed, it was very difficult to turn the engine off and i was not able to restart the car as not enough of the key projected to apply rotational force to.it would seem the ability to turn off the car in emergencies is crucial to safety and i feel there should be a recall investigation initiated. Wiring connector connected to the radiator fan assembly melted.i had replaced the radiator fan assembly a year earlier to its failure.upon the repair shop i took my car to calling the dealer, it was mentioned this is a common problem by the dealer.the melting of this connector caused the engine to start over heating and the a/c to no longer cool.dealer mentioned that the connector is not available and it would take replacing the whole electrical harness.the car only has about 65,000 miles on it.

I purchased a 2010 kia soul, and 8 days later smoke started coming out of the passenger side door panel, door lock, and window.the car was towed to the closest dealership and they told me that it was the window motor.the window motor was unplugged and i was allowed to drive it home.the dealer said the motor would come in the following day but i could drive it until then.i drove approx. 1 mile down the road and smoke starting pouring out of the passenger side door panel again.i was able to pull the car over in a parking lot and the speakers caught fire.the whole side door panel, speakers, and carpet melted/fire damage.it's been 4 weeks and i am still driving a rental car.kia corporate has been contacted and offered options in replacement/compensation.

The contact owned a 2010 kia soul. While driving at low speeds, a loud noise was detected from the vehicle and multiple unknown warning indicators illuminated. The contact mentioned that the high beam headlights illuminated automatically. The contact also noticed smoke, which led to fire, under the hood. The local fire department extinguished the fire. There were no injuries. The contact also mentioned that when the vehicle was turned off and the key was removed from the ignition, the engine continued to rev. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local body shop and then towed to the vehicle's insurance company. The contact mentioned that the insurance company towed the vehicle to another unknown location where the vehicle was considered a total loss. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

1. Stationary - a piece of the driver's side suspension spring broke off. My husband went to check what weird noise the car was making when he turned the wheel fully as we were trying to exit our paralleled parking spot in front of our home. When he opened the hood, he looked around and asked me to turn the wheel from so he could hear exactly where the sound was coming from. When he heard it was above the right wheel area, he looked deep, reached in and ended up finding a portion of the spring. A day or two later, both sides are making that noise, though no dislodged portion from the passenger side has been found yet.2. Stationary when discovered - tire began losing air at a rate which took 1 full day. Had the tire checked for holes, found 1 and repaired it. Next-day however, same problem. Checked again, no holes. Next day the same. Finally brought it to tire sales shop we always use. It was thoroughly examined and a crack was found on the inner side of the wheel, which means it was not from brushing against the curb one too many times.3. Horn has only ever worked intermittently.

This and other models of kia/hyundai have a very common issue with auto trans a4cf1/2 electrica harness that fails prematurely and frequently, including temp sensor intergrated into it. Car now has 94k and code p0713 for the temp sensor failure and recently p0765 for selonoid d, which is all related to wire harness inside trans. Temp sensor fails, and solder connections become loose and irretic shifting, check engine lights and all sorts of trans problems start. I wouldn't be surprised upon owners taking cars to dealer or trans shop, they are told their transmissions are no good.

My horn does not work all the time. I almost was in a bad accident trying to prevent a car sideswiping me to cross lanes - i kept trying to honk the horn. It would not work so i had to jam on my brakes and almost got rear ended too.i wrote to kia and got no response.i was driving in the middle lane - a driver to the right of me cut me off to get into the turn lane to the left of me.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact stated the horn failed to function, the key would not start the vehicle, and the headlights intermittently failed. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle would stall. After numerous attempts. The vehicle was able to restart.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

Head lights, a/c, power windows, sun roof, wipers and horn all stopped working at once.it was on a hot day. Then all just started working after car had cooled down.same thing happened once before, sometime in late june or early july 2017. I took the car to the dealer afterward but they couldn't help.

Brand new kia soul 2010 - less than 500 miles.electrical fire in the door panel while driving.towed to dealer, who replaced door panel.led light transmitter in speakers shorted and melted plastic inside door.response from kia (advised by dealer) was "don't leave the speaker lights in on position.only use them when you need them." this was the second same incident that the dealer had that week.

The vehicle's turn signals have stopped working for over 6 months now. It has been to the dealer numerous times and even after the repairs were completed, the signals continue to not work. They cannot seem to fix it. It is a safety issue while driving and i am concerned my daughter may get a ticket or have an accident because of it. The right taillight has also began to work intermittently over the last few weeks.

I was having problems with the electrical system in the kia, after that was fixed the car was still not running right, it was sluggish and using a lot of gas. The head was cracked, and several of the valves were messed up and eventually the whole engine had to be replaced, the whole process took approximately 2 1/2 months.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact stated that while accelerating at a low speed out of a parking space, the front drivers side door suddenly caught on fire. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure and current mileages were 20,000.

A loud popping sound goes off and the radio system and speakers all go out when i hit a bump in the road.it is also causing random lights to illuminate on the instrument panel. I have to turn off the car to turn off the panel ones.i called kia and they said there is no recall for this problem. However, it was noted on cars.com that this is a problem. My fear is that a fire may happen due to this issue.

I was notified by another driver that none of my brake lights were lighting up when i braked. I immediately took my kia soul to the dealership and they found a faulty brake switch. This was the same faulty brake switch that was subject to a recall in 2013. This means that the replaced new brake switch is also faulty after less than 2 years of driving. It is a worry to me that kia could be replacing a faulty recalled part with another faulty part, especially one that has major safety implications. I was also required to pay for this repair and this also seems unfair given the history of the particular part.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed smoke from the radio. The vehicle was taken to the bill dodge kia dealer (877-583-6175, located at 3 saunders way, westbrook, me 04092) where it was diagnosed that there was a shortage in the wiring harness. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. On two occasions, the wheels locked and the vehicle stalled. The contact also mentioned that the battery failed after one year. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer, they only offered to recharge the battery. A day later, the battery failed. The authorized dealer did not replace the battery and the contact had the battery replaced. The vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 10v388000 (electrical system), but the vehicle continued to stall. The vehicle was taken to two different dealers who were unable to diagnose the failure correctly to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

Daughter was driving car on side street when she noticed smoke and then fire coming from passenger side speaker/light area.she was fortunately not hurt and was assisted by bystander in putting out fire.inside of door around speaker melted.appears to be same problem that kia recalled 2010 kia for (ref 10v388000 aug 30 2010).car was supposedly fixed under recall no. 10v388000 at fullerton kia (no longer in business at the fullerton location).to date kia has accepted no responsibility for the problem.i want to make sure that cause is investigated before car is repaired, and reason is destroyed as it appears recall fix was unsuccessful and there may be 1000's of cars on the road with same problem. My 2010 kia soul is ceasing and locking up on me and my engine is shutting off. It hasdone this five times. I documented twice. When i took it to the dealer, i was told to recreate it. I can'tbelieve someone would say this. When iturn right the wheel will turn left and it will stiffen and shutt off. I almost crashed 5 times.'information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

The transmission stops shifting after 3rd or 4th gear on the highway. It shift hard and not right from take off. Something is very wrong with the transmission.

Car was being driven on a neighborhood street at 25 mph a block and a half from home. The car just stopped. The electric system still worked but there was no engine activity whatsoever. There were no warning lamps or sounds prior to this event. The oil had been changed a week prior to this happening. Evidently from reading various reports online of the same type of events happening to other owners, it seems this is a known engine issue for multiple models of kia cars. The car had to be towed to a garage where it was inspected and diagnostics were run. Dianostics determined: "found metal beneath valve cover and camshaft damaged due to apparent lack of oiling - no compression present." this car had approximately 150k miles on it and was a 2010 kia soul ! 4.2 0l 1975cc fi gas n 2 model. The repair fix is a complete engine replacement at a cost of 5-6 thousand dollars. Insane.

I own a pre-owned 2010 kia soul! with approximately 47k miles, clear title and no accidents. On sunday 12/29/13 my car experienced sua (sudden unintended acceleration). I was driving approximately 35 mph, approaching a rotary, when my car suddenly accelerated on its own. The rpms spiked up to 4000-5000 and my car lunged forward and the engine was racing very loudly. I had to pump the brakes multiple times to decelerate and bring the car to a complete stop. This incident is now the 4-5th time i have experienced sudden acceleration (within 1 year), usually happening between the 35-45mph range. The car will accelerate on its own (even if i've been at a complete stop, it will jump forward with rpms running abnormally high) and i'll have to press on the brakes significantly. I brought the car to lev kia in framingham ma where they ran a diagnostic test (12/30/13) and apparently found no recorded "trouble codes" and said they had never heard of this problem before and there is nothing they can do about it if they cannot recreate the incident. With some minimal research online, i was able to find other kia owners reporting the same issue, including another 2010 kia soul that resulted in a severe accident due to the speed control. This is obviously not a secluded incident and further research must be done. I feel unsafe driving my kia soul!

The 2010 soul had a major failure when it impacted a tree at 10 mph. There were no leaking fluids, signs of smoke or fire.the vehicle caught fire roughly 15 minutes later and burned totally up before fire crews could get there to put it out.the origin of the fire was between the engine and the fire wall.i feel as though the safety bumpers that are required by law to work bellow the 15 mph constraint are under designed.

Within a week of taking delivery on 7/24/09, the interior and most especially the door skins were already acquiring marks and scratches - a slight finger nail scratch required a special product to remove etc. There have been a few intermittent problems. 1. When releasing the clutch pedal there was a noise that sounded like a cable that has since become more consistent. On 8/3/09, i had an appointment with the dealer and was told it was the cable connected to the throw-out bearing which was said to be normal. However, this cable noise has not been normal with any of my other manual transmissions, nor is it present in all kia souls. 2. I began to notice a knocking sensation coming through the shifter handle when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear along with a grinding sound when downshifting into 2nd gear. There is also a slight jolt when shifting into 2nd gear - it is not a smooth transition like the other gears. 3. When at a traffic light with the car in neutral, there are times when the car will not go into 1st gear, and wants to go into 3rd gear which usually takes a couple of tries before it will go into 1st gear. 4. There has been excessive engine revving 2x now. The first occurred after i came out of reverse - the secondwas when i tried to go into 1st gear but ended up in 3rd gear and brought the car back to neutral. 5. The last issue concerns excessive water and dirt accumulating in the engine. After washing my car, i popped the hood and noticed the hood latch is already stripped down to the metal after only being opened and closed 4-5 times. The engine design seems to attract pools of water in certain areas, which also occurs when it rains, and there is concern of premature rust. Scheduled an appointment for 9/15 to have the oil changed at 1000 miles and to get these issues addressed but had to schedule a 3rd appointment because the dealer now needs to keep the car for 5 hours so the outcome is pending.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. While operating the air conditioning, the front driver and passenger side windows became fogged. Also, when using the vent to direct air to the floor, condensation would occur on the front windshield. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician indicated that the vehicle was operating as normal. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 2,000.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph a piece of metal on the road hit the vehicle. When he stopped at a gasoline station he noticed that the fuel was spilling back out and assumed that the metal fractured the fuel tank. The vehicle was inspected by a independent mechanic who informed the driver that there was a hole in the fuel tank and advised him that it needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 15,500.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph. The transmission began to slip without prior warning. The failure continued during the travel for approximately 800 miles.in addition, whenever dispensing fuel into the fuel tank; the fuel continuously sprays out. Also, there was failure with the brake system. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to locate the failures. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 800. The current mileage was approximately 7,000.

I had my 2010 kia soul parked in my garage after arriving home with it on 9/1/10, at about 715 pm. At 8 pm, my daughter noticed smoke and we found it was the garage was on fire. The fire completely destroyed both of my cars, my garage and my house and everything in it. The investigation found it was the kia that started on fire. On 9/1/10, kia came out with a recall on the speaker lights that are prone to start a fire. Kia says my car was not involved in that recall, but it did start on fire.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. While driving 10 mph, the led lights inside the vehicle caught on fire. The contact was able to pull over and the fire department was contacted and disconnected the battery . There were damages to the inside door panel and speakers. The vehicle was towed to a kia dealership where the diagnosis stated that the light harness wires melted. There were repairs to the harness and they replaced the lights under the warranty. The failure and the current mileages were 600. Updated 12/7/10/

We have a 2010 kia soul that's driver door will not latch.this is not the first time this has happened.afteryou open the door and then try to shut it the door latch will not engage. Even if you try and engage the lock the door will not secure.the only fix that we have found so far is to take a key and insert it into the latch.with the key in the latch youmove the key from the outside edge towards the passenger compartment.this has released the latch where it will catch. I can see this becoming a serious danger if the latch fails to secure when someone is driving and the door comes flying open.even though it is the law to ware a seat belt in most places there are still those that don't.even beyond the seat belt issue many people would be startled by the door just flying open.

I am the owner of a 2010 soul. The car rolled down a hill in 1st gear with the emergency brake on twice, the 2nd time into a river. Now every time it is damp or cold the emergency brake sticks [stays on when the lever is disengaged] and i end up driving with the brake on. The entire car shakes until the brake lets go.i have had the car looked at by my local dealer twice and they have done nothing.

My wife and i just purchased a used 2010 kia soul on 01/21/2012. She was driving it to the car was and as she was trying to make her way to the entrance she was pulled up too closely. She backed up then shifted into first gear and as she began to drive the vehicle thought it was still in reverse and began to move backward. She then put the car in neutral then shifted into first again and the same problem occurred, this time causing her to hit the pay box for the car wash and causing damage to the driver side fender, mirror and door.

I recently came out to get into my husbands kia to find a flat tire. While this is not an unusual event it was expensive. I purchased four new tires, and had them mounted. The mechanic mentioned the unusual wear pattern on the back tires which i had noticed as well. The tires were wearing in the center and to the inside edge of the tires. He suggested that i take the soul to the dealership since they would be able to align the vehicle according to the manufacturers specs. I made an appointment for the following morning at the kia dealership to do so. I heard the mechanic say to the dept. Manager that the car had already been aligned. After a short wait period the service department representative came back to me and said that the rear axle had shifted to the side by approx. 1/2". I asked when he had seen this on a vehicle, and he said after an accident. I stated that it had never been in an accident, and my husband purchased it new. The estimate for the repair for parts, labor, and a new alignment was $1090.00. I am currently waiting for kia consumer affairs to return a call to me about the issue. I believe this to be a significant design flaw since the slightest amount of rain/moisture on the road causes the vehicle to handle very poorly at reduced speeds of 45 mph. This defect has now cost 852.00 for new tires, and they will wear out in the same odd wear pattern if i don't replace the rear axle, and re-align the tires that i just purchased.

When putting the vehicle into reverse and releasing the clutch out to start moving the vehicle makes a loud metallic moaning sound.the transmission has been replaced twice and getting ready to more than likely be replaced a third time.the entire transmission has been replaced each time and the problem keeps happening.the vehicle has less than 19k miles on it now, and kia north america has been contacted each time and the regional advisor has also been notified. There is still no mention of what the actual problem is with the transmission and they are bulking at buying the car back or completely replacing the vehicle.the vehicle has also been hard to put into reverse from a stand still at times.

Car does not recognize it is in park, and cannot be started due to safety feature of not being able to start car in gear.temporary fix was discovered to be shift all the way to 2nd gear, then back to park.taking to kia dealer tomorrow to have 'switch' checked for possible short.car was driven and parked.problem occurred twice.once in carport the next morning (10/9).then in parking lot after returning from shopping in grocery store (10/12).

Manual clutch defective at only 13,300 miles. Checked online, many people have had the same problem with kia, many with even less miles. Apparently kia knows the clutch is defective as they have replaced several (6) of the clutches parts in the following year's model but they refuse to honor their warranty because the clutch is a "wear and tear item".i have never heard of a clutch wearing out at only 13,300 miles. My last manual vehicle (jeep) had 89,000 miles when traded in and still had the original factory clutch.

Solid rear axle failure.

Problem started after having clutch replaced in april 2019. When in 2nd gear, car hesitates and behaves as if it isn't getting gas; ie: does not accelerate when applying gas. I take foot off of gas and then put back on the pedal or have to change gears before car accelerates.

On august 5, 2009 my wife was driving the 2010 kia soul when it broke down. The engine got stuck in second and it took for ever to get to third despite pushing down on the gas pedal.once it did it would jerk her around. It was taken into the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it.on september 28, 2009 the same issues came back. Additionally the vehicle will not go in reverse. Also when driving the vehicle, it down shift on its own while jerking you forward.it then releases lunging the vehicle forward.the vehicle was taken in to the nearest kia dealer.they said the car's transmission went out and is not covered by the warranty.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact stated that the middle rear seat belt retractor failed and the brakes made a noise when depressed, causing the brakes not to engage at a normal stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failures however, the dealer did nor perform a diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage 95,000.

I purchase a 2010 kia soul ! on 12/31/2009. Soon after i notices how easily the pillars and parts of the door panel became scratched and nicked but the seat belt. Report it to kia usa and was issued a kia consumer # k1695129 and was informed that a fix would be coming in april then in june. I have heard nothing from kia since. The plastic is very soft and can even be damaged by a finger nail. I would like this sub-standard plastic to be replaced.

The brakes are not braking the way they should make a grinding noise and then stalled to stop i was on i-285 going home to jasper ga also i've noticed that the gear shifter can go into another gear w out brake on

I exported my kia soul 2010 to germany due to military movement order. As the car is now registered in germany; i did not get any notifications from kia us about the recall sc098am regarding a problem with the brake light switch, rated as a safety issue. My german car dealer is trying to help me get the brake light switch changed, but is unable to get the necessary information from kia. Is there a possibility to assist me in getting the necessary work from a safety recall done in germany? thank you for your help

Dealership changed my brakes on sept 18.on sept 19, while driving on highway, all four brakes activated without brakes being pressed.vehicle decelerated from 65mph to 30 mph and drivers side front brake caught on fire.

On two separate occasions, i have experienced unintended acceleration, once when the cruise was on and once when it wasn't.the kia soul would not respond to braking or slow down to less than 20 mph.luckily i was on the interstate or four lane both times and had time to get over on the berm and put car in neutral and then park and then turn off immediately.i tried to restart and the engine revved up to 7,000 in park.i let car sit for about 15 minutes...first time when i tried to restart it seemed to be okay.i drove it for about a month before second occurrence.this time car would not reset and when trying to restart, engine was revving to 7,000 rpm in park.i told all this to my local dealership.they ran diagnostic but found nothing wrong...i am scared to drive it and after some research, looks like there have been numerous people experiencing the same issues.

The stop lamp switch did not function properly, despite this exact part being recalled back in 2013.the stop lamps are not illuminated when brakes are engaged.

4-8-10 aaa tells me the rear brakes are not engaging when they changed a flat tire. I took car to dealership to inspect brakes and patch tire.dealership did no repairs.4-26-10 2010 kia soul se2, brakes failed to engage when car ahead stopped causing my car to rear end that car. Speed under 15 mph. $3000 damage to my car. Scratch to other car.5-11-10 independent master mechanic inspected brakes and thinks they are defective and unable to be repaired. Advises lemon law application started.

While driving on i-95 in south florida i hada difficult time getting my 2010 kia soul to stop during a panic stop situation.i am over 210 lbs. And had to put every ounce of strength i have to get the car to stop.i am 63 and have been driving since 15 and never had a car react like this kia.it has 4-wheel disc brakes.if [xxx] was driving we would have ended up on the rear deck of the car in front of us.[xxx] is small and would not been able to push as hard as i did.i took the car to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong.i would like to make you aware of this problem (braking issues)because i certainly need a car which will stop on command.i talked to a young girl here in nashua who owns a 2011 kia and she told me she thought there was something "wrong" with her brakes also.it is very scary when a car won't stop like it should.thank you for listening to my complaint.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact temporarily rented a 2010 kia soul. The contact stated that the brake pedal was abnormally small and high, making it difficult for the contact to depress the brake pedal when attempting to reverse. The contact stated the design of the peal caused dangerous driving situations because he would have to look away from the roadway and locate the pedal. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 8,000.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. While driving approximately 15-20 mph off from a side street, the contact applied the accelerator and the steering wheel began to pull away from him. He stated that he had to hold on to the steering wheel extremely hard to maintain control of the vehicle. The failure would only occur when attempting a turn and simultaneously accelerating. The vehicle was not taken to an authorized dealer or local mechanic for a diagnosis of the failure. The failure mileage was 300 and the current mileage was 9,500.

I need to replace the driver side control arm because it's loose, and warranty just expired 1,000 miles ago.

I was driving my typical route to work and mid turn, with my car on, on a city road, my steering wheel locked. I had to stop my car in the middle of the road and restart it to get it to unlock. Very scary thing to happen, very worried it will happen again in a more dangerous place, like the freeway.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. While driving approximately 10 -15 mph and making a left turn the front wheels would not straighten which caused the vehicle to crash into another vehicle.the left side of her vehicle was damaged. One passenger sustained injuries to her hand. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. She was unable to provide a vin. The failure and current mileages were 2200.

The contact owns a 2005 (na) kia soul. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v123000 (vehicle speed control) and 15v736000 (steering); however, the parts for the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The contact had not experienced a failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect.

All interior doors are nicked and scratched especially the front doors.the interior of my car looks like a ten year old car and this is a 2010 soul. Called kia many times and they just continue to tell me they are working on it.i have had my car for a year and a half already! i want the panels replaced with a higher quality product.also have noticed when i drive on rough road or hit bumps or holes the car seems to loose control a bit.like it skips across the road and i can't stop it. I can't seem to steer it for that brief second.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. While driving approximately 5 mph the steering wheel became stuck in the turning position and the vehicle stalled. The contact turned the vehicle back on and was able to drive normally. The failure would continue to occur intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician could not diagnoseor duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would work something out as long as the contact doesnot involve a lawyer. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact stated that the driver was traveling approximately 45 mph during rainy weather. The vehicle suddenly began to abnormally veer off the road to the right. The driver crashed into a tree. The driver was injured. A police report was available. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The current and failure mileage was approximately 700.

Kia soul steering assembly failure (temporary)when turning the 2010 kia soul sharply (as far as it will go either right or left) and attempting to straighten the wheel quickly after turning results in the entire steering wheel tightening to where you cannot turn it for a couple seconds as though it locks up. Also, when idle, turning the steering wheel results in a tugging sensation from the power steering pump that vibrates through the steering wheel.

I purchased a 2010 kia soul ! on 12/31/2009 and within 2 months i noticed 10 -12 paint chips on the front and hood of the car. I drive in a city that only see some snow and some salted. Salted roads should of not caused this much paint chipping. I added a paint protection film to the front of the car at a cost of $587 to protect my investment. Later i learned that this is a problem with this model. Contacted kia consumer affairs about the issue to and asked to register the compliant, they stated they have never heard of the issue. I asked them to help over the cost of the protection system, they stated they would only do that if the dealer installed it, which my was not. I would like to see that the paint issue is corrected and conpensated for the cost i spent on the protection film.

Deep scratches to pillars, doors, glove box, dash board and center console due to the material used in the manufacturing of the vehicles interior.at 3000 i began letting my dealership know, they said they had no idea, kia america insists they let all the dealerships know of the defect.kia america will not submit anything in writing, they only give a reference number and say they are working on the problem.they have working on a solution for close to two years, enough is enough.i can't sell or trade my car in because i have suffered such a loss due to the depreciation of market value.my interior looks like it is 10 years old, i noticed the issue at 1000miles and now have 9000miles and still no word from kia.

Purchased a 2010 kia soul + exactly one month ago, used with 10,000 miles.the interior of this vehicle is of such low quality, it looks like it has 100,000 miles on it instead. Not only is the interior a poor excuse for the car, so is the exterior paint. Chips and peeling are not an uncommon problem with the kia soul. In fact, all of the souls i have seen, have had some sort of paint damage, not due to driving or abuse, but to the neglect of not using high quality paints and finishes to the soul. All in all, the kia soul is a fun car, but i am very unsatisfied with the workmanship and quality of the vehicle.

I have a 2010 kia soul that the interior door panels scratch very easily. Primary issue come about as a result of the seat belt striking the door as it retracts.

The interior panels are easily scratched and the car look like it is ten years old and it is barely a year old. It has affected the value as i was told by a separate dealer that the interior looks "horrible" i notified kia and they said a "fix" would be available in two months and almost a year later kia has not fixed the problem.

2010 kia soul special edition number one: all 4 passenger doors have multiple nicks and scratches on their interior, especially the front doors.the seatbelts scratch the doors.the plastic inner doors are too soft and mar too easily.

The inside door panels on both sides of the car are full of scratches.the plastic panels scratch too easily even with extra careful use, the panels look like they are 10 years old.

I have had my kia soul since may 2009. I have experienced chips in the glass and paint as well as scratches to the glass from a plastic ice scraper ai have used on 3 other vehicles without issue. I do not use ice scrapers often here in texas, but this is the first time i have had windows scratched by a plastic utensil designed for the task i was performing. I think the windows are made of a hybrid compound that is not fully glass to be so easily chipped and scratched. It reminds me of the polycarbonate used in the glasses i wear. They are "scratch resistant", but when push comes to shove i will have scratches from the most benign occurrences. I believe the glass in this vehicle will be a hazard over the long term by creating issues with viewing the road. The scratches catch the light and cause star effect lighting right in the portion of the windshield in front of the driver. This car has less than 5000 miles.

I have 2010 kia soul that i bought in april 2009. The problem is that in the interior isvery easily damaged. The interior plastic is of low enough quality that when getting in and out of the car one's fingernails can cause a scratch. I take care of all my vehicles and armor all the interiors regularly, but even though the interior looks like a 20 year old car. I already contacted kia 8 months ago and they told me i would hear back from them with a solution for the first run should interior problem in q1 2010. I have contacted them many times since then and all i have gotten back is that they have received my complaint and are working on a fix.

My 2010 kia soul has such severe interior damage from the sub-standard material they used that the market value has depreciated far beyond the norm.any metal, even plastic that touches the doors (seat belt buckle) pillars, center console, glove box, etc....becomes damaged.the material has no padding under it so there is no absorption and it is "honey comb" design which when scratched breaks the "honey comb" which has a light grey under it.my father bought the same car at the same time and he too has this problem.the cars showing this damage immediately.the dealership has no way of fixing it and the manufacture is telling us to wait for their solution, many people have been waiting for over a year.kia has put other 2010 souls on the lot with completely different material so this should be the solution.they will not send me anything in writing stating that they acknowledge this problem though they have given out hundreds, if not thousands of reference # and tell everyone they are working on the solution.i feel as though they are wasting time, letting time lapse so they can either claim that it is normal wear and tear or they are waiting for the lemon law time limits to expire.what company acknowledges a defect but won't put it in writing?i am furious, this is a brand new car and there are other issues that are also present, like chipping paint that has started to rust with 6000 miles on it.we deserve consumer protection.please check www.kiasoulforum.com for even greater awareness of this very public issue.rear view window so small and high it is a danger.

Door skins and pillars scratch too easily. Major source of deep scratches is due to the mere touching of the seat belt being retracted. Other scratches can be caused by touching these interior parts. These plastic parts are inferior and defective and should be replaced with the newer improved and released replacements.

I just purchased a new 2010 kia soul.i am very careful and take excellent care of my cars, but i have to say the door panels on this vehicle tend to scratch up with the slightest touch of even a finger nail.it is unbelievable how horrible it gets with normal wear, and i consider myself obsessively careful with my cars and its almost impossible to not scratch these panels.horrible workmanship to the point that it must be some sort of defect.has anyone else complained about this ?my purchase date was 9/18/09 and my interior door panels look 5 years old and abused. Also, the front end on this car rumbles like something is loose, very sloppy sounding front end when going over bumps.steering feels fine but the noise and rumbling is unbearable.very poorly put together and rattle feeling.

Our new soul+ was purchased in august 2009 new. It was almost immediate that scratches and scuffs were coming out on the interior panels. The slightest scuff or even just scrating with a fingernail was enough to make a permanent scratch. Very poor quality panels and after speaking with other owners on a soul forum...i am not alone.

Sun roof falls out of tracks

Passenger side front door lock would unlock intermittently initially for the first few years and now does not unlock at all when using the key fob and since there is no manual key-lock cylinder anywhere except on the driver-side door, this front door cannot be opened until after the driver's door is opened.

Shattered hatchback glass. I was just getting in my2010kia soul after work. I opened driver side , sat in, as i closed driverdoorthe hatchback glass simply shattered and fell apart. I was in total shock .

Factory installed windshield chips and cracks from the edge easily and often. I had the first window replaced at about 5,000 miles and that window was a genuine kia window installed and now it has two small chips and a crack from the edge of the glass and one big chip at 8,000 miles. I have not changed my driving and have never occurred this many window defects. I believe the window to be not properly annealed or treated in the furnace or it is just too thin.

I am an owner of a 2010 kia soul, purchased in july 2009. Immediately noticed with the slightest moisture on road, car could barely handle at low speeds and the traction light and low air pressure light consistently came on and off. Was told it was "not a problem" by dealer and would wear off. My car was involved in a low speed accident which side swept the right side of the car at a speed of appx 10 mph and drove the left front wheel into curb. Car had passenger side body damage and some heavy scuffing to three wheels which body shop repaired. In october of 2010, clipped curb traveling at appx 20 mph. Severe damage to both right side wheels, had to replace them as well as control arm which seemed to be ridiculous amount of damage for such a small incident however had repairs and alignment done, alignment couldn't be done to specs, suggested i take to dealer. Took car into dealer for allignment and to have sound in front right wheel well investigated. Dealer stated rear toe of car was "out" need to have a body shop look at it. Back to body shop which revealed entire rear axle needed to be replaced and that front wheel bearing blown. Had axle replaced took to dealership to have wheel bearing replaced and another allignment, rear of car would not align to specs. Both dealership and body shop states that either the original specs for car were wrong or perhaps either the original axle or the replacement axle from kia was built out of specs. My concern is that this is a lightly driven car in town only involved in two very minor accidents and there is this significant, expensive damage only to be told it may have never been right in the first place? i've seen many more complaints about the suspension and low profile tires on internet, thought it was worth reporting. I do not feel safe in this car.

I have my kia soul 2010 since october 2009. Approximately in march 2010 i saw one of the front hankook tires had a big bubble. Then for about 3 months later; another tire in this case a rear tire had a bubble too. I spoke with maintenance dealer inpuerto rico and they told me it was abuse of my part and need to replace them.in august 2010 the third tire; in front had appear with a bubble too. I am driving this car with these 3 tires with bubbles; i fear for my safety and one day one of them could burst in the highway and cause an accident and lost my life. Its weird a tire have this problem.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact stated that while attempting to add air to the tire, the valve stem became detached from the wheel.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and was advised that the stem could not be replaced with out replacing the entire valve and transmitter. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that there was nothing that could be done to assist. The failure mileage was 36,000.

The traction control light keeps coming on in my 2010 kia soul and when i took it to the dealer for repairs they claim it is due to a fender bender that occurred on the rear right bumper and refuse to repair it under warranty and they also said that there was a message on the computer about the brake sensor located under the brake peddle that would not be covered under warranty because someone stepped on the brake pedal to hardprobably when it was rear ended at a low speed which caused the damage.funny but i thought that was what the brake pedal was for if you wanted to stop in an emergency.

---component or system issue--not sure yet. Based on google, it's possibly either a "faulty fuel pump relay" or "defective ignition switch".---safety issue-- potential for grave injury if a child or someone got in the car and put it in drive there were many young children and teenagers in attendance.--reproduced? or confirmed? not officially-- only that it has happened twice now.1st occurrence--first week of july 2021 heard the car running hours after the car was parked and the key removed.unlocked the driver door, put the key in and turned it forward, then back and car turned off. Double-checked it by starting car and then turning off and sitting a few minutes. Nothing else happened at that point.---2nd occurrence-sunday, july 25th, 2021 on camping trip...at campsite someone in the group heard a car running. It was the 2010 kia soul i went to get the key and returned to the (unlocked) car and turned the car off. ---inspected?not yet---warnings? none that i noticed.though, shortly following the incident, while driving (first 5 minutes of starting car), the od light came on. I pulled over, turned off car, and the light did not come on again.

Check engine light comes on; diagnosed as canister purge valve.

I was driving on the highway with no other vehicles around and my sunroof exploded!

Audio & bluetooth system have failed.audio system previously failed in december 2011.audio system just blacked out .dealership replaced audio system at that time under warranty.at this time there is a loud scrambled sound when radio is turned on and bluetooth does not work either.googled audio problems regardingthis model of auto was found on a you tube demo of exactly the same type of problem experienced by another person in july of this year.the problem turned out to be a failed external amplifier.in doing some further checking on the web found that another person also had their audio system fail at 39,000 miles in 2011.as amplifier was not covered after 36,000 mileshe was quoted charges of $114.00 for a diagnostic eval, $640.00 labor for putting in a new amp and $825.00 for new amp itself.in the 2013 consumer reports buying guide the 2010 kia soul has a much worse than average rating for the audio system.maybe there should be some investigation done on this audio issue and possibly a recall issued.i could certainly live without a radio but have an issue using my phone without the bluetooth while driving. There seems to be quite a few complaints when looking on the web regarding audio problems on this year andmodel of vehicle.

My car is stalling while driving. It is really scary when it happens and i checked it twice through diagnostic tests with kia and they cannot identify the issue. I am really concerned about my safety as this stalling feels like a powerful stonewall impact. It happened 6 times in a 2 month span.my kids got scarred too when it happened while they were in the car with me. If the dealer cannot determine the cause, i am afraid to drive it. Please help. Thank you.

The brakes are not braking the way they should make a grinding noise and then stalled to stop i was on i-285 going home to jasper ga also i've noticed that the gear shifter can go into another gear w out brake on

Started my 2010 kia soul ā˛•, it had a loud ruff idle to it & felt like it was choking each time i hit gas pedal. Autozone scanner gave codes of c1513 brake lite switch implausible & code c1503 esc switch input low. Pls help me. Ive had a family emergency & need my vehicle to get my dying family memeber

My wife and i were driving on the highway going about 70 when all of a sudden the car seemd to shift down to 3rd gear almost having the car behind us rearend us. Has been happening all the time if we go over 65 or 70.

The contact rented a 2010 kia soul from a local vehicle rental facility. The contact stated the brake pedal was set at an angle and was abnormally small. The accelerator pedal was also the same. The contact stated on several occasions, she barely missed a crash due to the abnormal design of the pedals. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was unable to provide the vin, failure and current mileages.

Factory cruise control was in use at approximately 45 mph.when the brake was applied, the cruise control did not disengage. Instead the engine raced in an attempt to maintain the car speed at 45 mph.i tested the cruise control the next day 2 times at different speeds and each time the cruise control would not disengage with application of the brake. It did disengage each time when the cruise control on/off switch was depressed.the cruise control has worked without any problems prior to this.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul.the contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the vehicle abnormally accelerated forward until the contact applied the brakes.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure.the vehicle was not repaired.this failure occurred intermittently in the past.the failure and current mileage was 4,100.

2010 kia soul 5 door wagon 2.0 l mt 5 speed transmissionthe car over revs between shifts and has a soft brake pedal that goes to the floor and as your brake pedal goes down at stops your foot touches the foot feed and causes the car to revs up while stopping.i have made many visits to kia in lake manawa kia in council bluffs, ia and kia of grand island, ne. I have talked to 2 kia service reps and they say that?s just how the car is and they can't do anything with it. I took them to bbb arbitration court for a vehicle buy back and they said they would fix the problem but only fixed one the roof damage from assembly and one recall on master cylinder. The car still over revs and at stops signs they have never been able to fix it. The brakes worry me and the car is slightly dangerous. I think kia should replace my car or fix it or being the 5 speeds have these bugs yet in the 2010 models they should get me into a automatic that doesn't have this problem.i have had this problem since i bought the car on march 17, 2009. I called them within a week of getting the car and they said they would fix it when i came in for my first oil change and they said the service rep would look at it. But the rep could come in for 3 month due to an accident he was in. When he was in he said that?s the way the cars were but i didn't buy that because the car is unsafe and i have been a mechanic for over 50 yrs and i know this isn't how a car should perform. Also the car was so new i didn't also buy that?s how they perform he did say he doesn't even have a shop manual for it yet. Previously i had recommend a kia to my son and he went to witchita,ks kia and they told him you don't want a kia soul 5 speed because they over rev between shifts. I also recommended kia to my daughter and brother-in law and they bought automatic transmission cars and they have no problems with over revs. After this i will never recommend kia to anyone else after my problems with kia service.*cw

Auto se aceler causando accidente. Entrando al estacionamiento se aceler chocando con la pared del condominio

I was returning from a trip when i got a small rock chip.i had it filled and everything seemed fine.this morning, when i drove to work, my windshield was fine, but this afternoon, there was an l shaped crack in the bottom middle of my windshield.i am finding that this windshield cracks and chips with great ease.at this point, that crack cannot be "filled," the windshield needs to be replaced.

Windshield cracked at base of window covered by the wiper not where a rock could access it.the crack has since spread across the entire surface of the window. This happened in march of 2010 after having the car for 4 months.i am unwilling to fix due to the other complaints.this should be recalled and replaced with american glass that is not so soft.

Rock barely taps windshield causing damage.

2010 kia soul windshield has broken three times since we bought it 4 months ago. Yes, caused by small rocks from the road. The first two times we paid over $50.00 to have the cracks "blown". Then a few weeks later a rock hits again this time the small rock has created a massive crack and will need to be replaced.i cant afford to replace but if i did isn't it going to happen again? i've been driving a long time and i have had to repair a windshield one time. Now in the span of 4 months its been 3 times.

The contact owns a 2010 kia soul. The contact was driving 30 mph when the windshield was struck by a small rock causing extensive damage to the glass. The vehicle was taken to a glass specialist who advised the contact that the windshield would fracture again if struck and recommended replacing with tougher glass. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that they would have an engineer further examine the windshield glass. The failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 10,813.

Head lights, a/c, power windows, sun roof, wipers and horn all stopped working at once.it was on a hot day. Then all just started working after car had cooled down.same thing happened once before, sometime in late june or early july 2017. I took the car to the dealer afterward but they couldn't help.

Car was parked under carport. I came back to car rear window had exploded no indication of foul play. Replaced 8/24/15. Then again car parked under carport exploded again 2nd time 10/09/15. When it explodes looks like someone crawled in hatchback and pushed glass outward, glass company safelite can not figure out what is causing this.

My car is 2 yrs old it has over 15 chips and cracks in windshield. Dealership will not replace windshield.

Dealership changed my brakes on sept 18.on sept 19, while driving on highway, all four brakes activated without brakes being pressed.vehicle decelerated from 65mph to 30 mph and drivers side front brake caught on fire.
