I was stopped at a red light on a city street and struck head on by another vehicle. The damage is shown below in the uploaded image. My airbags did not deploy.
The air bag light was staying on so i took the vehicle to dealer. The diagnosed it as the passenger seat air bag was defective. It will cost me almost $800 to repair. Should this be a manufacturer issue and be replaced at no cost? if i don't repair it, it could be dangerous.
My passenger side air bag will not become active if i use my air cushion.i need to be able to activate the air bag.kia tells meto bad .i need to use a cushion for medical reasons.i want the air bag to be active .i paid for this feature.kia said i can't use a cushion. I feel the air bag should be active all of the time regardless please require them to put switch on this feature to activate the air bag?
Headlights initially were just flickering on occasion now headlights are turning off while driving. Sometimes they go back on and sometimes they don't.warning ⚠️ comes on and dash display also indicates a headlamp issue. Sometimes turning them on and off helps.been gradually getting worse.now all lights will not turn on including brights. Horn also not working. Has happened multiple times at night on busy city streets.
If lights are in automatic they will shut off in the pitch black and you have to turn them on with the switch. This could cause a major accident
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle would not start. The contact jump started the vehicle and took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who replace the battery however, the failure persisted. The contact had the vehicle towed to local dealer bill bryan kia (9039 us-441, leesburg, fl 34788) and was advised to not to leave the key in the vehicle to prevent future failures. The vehicle was returned however, the failure persisted. After five days, the contact had the vehicle towed back to the same dealer to be repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 39,744.
On february 17, 2021 a vehicle pulled out in front of me on a highway causing me to slam the brakes so hard to avoid hitting the vehicle.after the vehicle proceeded across the road when i tried to continue forward my sorento had very little power no matter how much i tried to give the vehicle gas.as i drove sorento home it had very little power.i could barley get vehicle to go the 5 plus miles to my house traveling at least than 25 miles per hour.possibly less than that and as i tried to drive up the hill to my house i barely got there.the vehicle did not have power to go up hill.afterwards the vehicle would not start and stay on..i had it towed to kia dealership where is has been for a week.
While driving with the headlights in the "auto" position, when a turn blinker is used the headlights will randomly turn off for about 10-15 seconds.not much of an issue during the daytime but certainly a major safety concern at night.this problem can be replicated during the daytime by watch the dash lights switch from "auto" to "off" on the driver's dash.moving the switch from the auto to on has no effect on the lights.this problem occurs about 30% of the time when using the turn signal.
This problem is identical to nhtsa id number 10917569. On three different occasions the smart cruise control/abs/stability control warning: basically all warning lights lit on the dashboard. Car had less than 500 miles, doing 65mph on a clear day.stopped and restarted car, all light s cleared. Dealer found no codes stored. So far it has only happened when using the ldws. Leave it off it never occurs.
Takata recall the rear passenger door shows as "open" on the dash screen even when the vehicle is off. The door is closed and shows as open when driving eliminating imperative on-screen notifications.
I had my kia for 32 days when i was leaving the dealership from picking up the tag from southeastern auto, the check engine light came on all of a sudden. We were going down a very curvy highway running 45 to 50 mph. Mind you, no problem until then. We made 5 miles when it lost power. It wouldnt go over 35mph. We called the dealership and was told to stop and turn it off and back on, as it may be in limp mode. After we did that we were headed back to the dealership when it completely lost all power, then it sounded like grinded up metal and spit it out. Then it shut off and would not crank. We were right on the road, in a curve that was up hill. Where traffic was very flying both directions. It was terrifying waiting for the tow truck the dealership sent. They sent it to their mechanic in wilkesboro, who determined it threw a rod threw the motor. Now it's being towed to a kia dealership where they are supposed to put a new motor in it for $300bfrom
I own a 2017 kia sorento with 45,000 miles on it. I have taken my car in several times due to the check engine light coming on and engine noises. We were sent home every time and told our car was good to go. I was driving on the freeway when my car suddenly lost power and went limp, almost causing an accident. We are now being told we need a new engine due to sludge. They are stating it was caused by lack of maintenance and refusing to honor the warranty. We get regular oil changes and the last being by the dealership themselves just weeks prior. But because we did 2 changes through my husbands company, they won't accept our proof of maintenance. My make, model and year has a current recall on their engines but because mine is a 3.3l and not 2.0 or 2.4, it's not covered. This is ludicrous.
The car will be off and locked and all the lights will periodically come on.this has happened about 15times in the 2yrs we have owned it.the dealership has been informed. We were told the kia's on the lot do the same thing and they don't know why????
On october 10 2019 my wife was driving the kids to school in our 2017 kia sorento and before shecould get out of the neighborhood the car started to jerk uncontrollably and lost all acceleration before it cut off. She then tried to restart the car several time but was unsuccessfully it it starting back up before it stalled out. After the car was left alone for a while i went out to the car and it started back up and seemed like it drove fine. We did not take it to the dealership that time. After that my wife said that she felt the vehicle was not driving like it should. She said that you basically had to floor it for it to get up to cruising speed. Approximately 6 weeks later my wife started to have more problems with the vehicle. She stated that the acceleration problem was very noticeable and was scaried that it was going to stall out again before she could get home that day. She was able to get home safe that time. Later on that day she had to go back out and she said that it started up fine and drove fine until with out warning it just shut off while she was driving in the middle of business intersection. The car started up just fine once it shut off and my wife drove it to a nearby parking lot where it sat until it was towed to the dealership. The dealership has had the vehicle about 3 weeks now and are unable replicate the problem. The dealership said that they have done everything possible to see if there was a problem with the car. Since they cannot replicate the problem and there is no codes then they think that the vehicle is fine. Sin e the car cut off on my wife twice in six weeks she is scared to drive the car in fear that it will shut off on her again. This is a major safety concern that needs to be addressed by kia. I am not the only one complaining about this problem with this car this could have very easily resulted in a major accident
As i am driving over 40 mph, the vehicle will lose all power and caution lights illuminate on the dash, radio turns off, power steering goes out, car decreases speed. The car immediately turns back on, but there is no acceleration to the vehicle.this has happened 3 times in the last 5 days and it happed 3 times today march 12, 2019. All incidents were on city streets, while going straight at speeds 40 mph or more.the last time, was while i was making a right turn getting on the freeway. After each occurrence, i would safely pull off the road, turn the vehicle off, wait a couple seconds and turn the car back on.the car would resume back to normal.i have noticed that after the first time this happened, when i do the first attempt to turn the car on, it does not turn over.
Engine is severely slugged and there was no warning ever.found out after an oil changed at 67k at jiffy lube when i took it to the ourisman kia dealer in chantilly, va.there is no warning that any of this situation was starting to happen even after a previous oil change at kia dealer at 58k miles.the dealership denied my claim with the 100k mile warranty because i don't have proof that i did all 9 oil changes.they proceeded to tell me that i need a new engine but that they are on backorder nationwide and who knows what date tbd that will become available.the repair shop i took it to piedomont in haymarket, va says they think it is something like a year before it might be available.so in the mean time no loaner was ever offered to me and no i have a unusable vehicle that i have submitted a claim for with geico.i do not have funding for a new engine and the fact that the kia motor company has no engine to even supply to me is completely unacceptable practice for a business.also 1 year ago my battery just died according to the kia dealer due to a parasitic drain.that seems suspicious to me since the vehicle was only a year old and had to be replaced with one i bought at walmart.also, the fuse for the driver seat continuously blows.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off. The vehicle operated normally after it was restarted. The vehicle was taken to lou sobh kia (1135 bruford rd, cumming, ga 30041), but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact indicated that the vehicle recently experienced the same failure a second time while driving. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 10,000.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. While the vehicle was parked outside of an auto body shop over the weekend, the center console caught on fire. The contact stated that the melted center console and burnt driver side seat were discovered by an auto body technician. A police report and a fire report were not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was not inspected by an independent mechanic or dealer to determine the cause of the fire. The contact was unaware if the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The insurance company was to contact the manufacturer for an inspection.the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.*lnconsumer stated wiring failures with window, trunk and console. Updated 8/22/18the consumer stated the vehicle was deemed a total loss.
Power steering went out. Radio turns on and off going down the road. Headlights turn off and on by themself. Battery is now dead. Car will not run. Transmission light came on all in one day..i've had this vehicle for 4 to 5 months
I was driving my 2017 kia sorento on the interstate in stop and go traffic.while stopped, the engine started shaking and car lost power.i was able to pull over to the shoulder.i had the vehicle towed to the repair shop.i was told that my wiring harness had melted together and needed to be replaced. This may have lead to a fire if not caught in time.
When pressing on the brake pedal, the transmission will not shift out of park. The only way to shift out of park is to depress the transmission shift override. A new brake light switch did not correct the issue. To date, the vehicle has not been repaired, inspected by dealer, manufacturer, police or insurance representative. No warning lamps, message or other symptoms of the problem occurred prior to the failure.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the headlamps failed to remain illuminated with the headlamp switch in the auto position. The turn signals were also inoperable. The contact stated that headlight suggested message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the headlamps operated as designed with the headlamp switch in the on position. The vehicle was taken to greenway kia west located at (8701 e colonial dr, orlando, fl 32817) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the multi-function switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
While driving at night with lights in the "automatic" position, the headlights will randomly switch to parking lights as indicated on the dashboard display and based on what i can see out the windshield.after 5 to 10 seconds the lights will turn back on as indicated by the dashboard display and what i can see.the problem is most common at highway speeds but has occurred on city streets as well.it usually occurs within the first 10 minutes of driving.if the headlight control switch is turned manually to the "on" position, the lights will function correctly.
While dying on highway at 65 miles per hour, the vehicle jerked violently and without warning i saw everything on the dashboard begin to shut down. I was able to get over to the shoulder. Everything checked out and i began to drive again as if nothing were wrong. A week later it happened again. This time i barely limped home. Vehicle has 62k miles.
The flashing check engine light came on my 2017 kia sorento, the car went into limp mode, and would not drive over 20 mph. I was driving on an interstate at the time, and it was extremely dangerous to cross two highway lanes at 20 mph trying to pull over to the shoulder. The car was towed to burns auto shop. They pulled up code p1326 and said this was a known kia issue and a kia dealer should fix it for free. My car has 35,000 miles and is still under the 10 year/100,000 miles kia warranty.the car was towed to fred beans kia dealer in langhorne, pa, who refused to check it for 10 days. Kia refused to pay for a rental car (even retroactively) until the mechanic checked it - a huge inconvenience to my family of 6 who had to use 1 car for 2 weeks. When fred beans finally checked the car, they claimed to not be able to see the code. They conceded that what happened is a known kia issue and could happen again at any time.it's terrifying to know my car could at any time slow down to 20 mph on the highway. Despite kia's claims that the car could drive up to 55 mph with the code on, my speed plummeted to 20 mph within seconds and would not go up despite pressing the gas pedal for several minutes. Kia said my car's vin was not among those affected by the recall. Yet, since the p1326 issue did happen to my car, my vin should be included.despite knowing of the issue, kia and its dealers refuse to take my family's safety seriously. They both suggest i keep driving 'until it happens again'. After reading online reviews, it's clear kia and its dealers routinely try to avoid fixing problems covered by warranty. Kia claims they have no control over their authorized dealers. Yet, it's kia's responsibility to pay for issues covered under warranty.i'd like kia to fix the known code p1326 problem, so i can enjoy full use of my car without expecting it to malfunction at any moment
When the car's headlight switch is set to 'auto', the head and taillights will turn on and off at random, regardless of lighting conditions. The lights randomly turn on while the car is off and stationary and has resulted in a drained battery on three occasions. . the lights turn on and then back off while in motion during daytime driving (as indicated by the dashboard indicator). When on and while in motion at night, the lights turn off, resulting in zero visibility while driving.
Head lights turn off while driving down the road
I have complained since 2020 about the noise in the rear area, this started when the right rear light was rewired. I can't pinpoint what triggers the noise to start, sometimes it happens when the suv is off ,and idling and driving but not consistently. I left with an unresolved issue. I went to the dealership today( 05/14/2021) @ 11:00 @ greenway kia west 3407 west colonial drive orlando florida 32808, to complain that my oil is running completely out of the engine and i was told all the fees i will have to pay in order to check this problem, i didn't say i had a leak or noise but disappearing. This is a manufacturers issues , and the warranty should cover. I told them my windshield is bubbling at the top and maybe separating , and still again all i heard was fees , i purchased a kia sorrento based on the good warranty and the place i felt very safe. I am very very disappointed in the dealership and my safety is at risk and i hope nothing happens before something happens.
When vehicle is in motion the headlights will randomly turn off when on the auto setting. This has happen multiple times since we purchased this vehicle and is a serious accident waiting to happen. I have viewed multiple reports of this issue online from other owners. This has happen on the highway and city streets where the roads have no lighting.
My 2017 kia sorento headlights when operating in auto mode will unexpectedly and without warning turn off.i have to turn the switch manually to make them come back on.this creates an extreme safety hazard.it has happened both on the highway / interstate as well as back roads.this needs to be addressed by kia asap.
The collision warning and autonomous emergency braking systems on this vehicle are totally inoperative and have been since vehicle delivery.vehicle now has about 1800 miles on it.it has been to two dealers for repair and both say their tests do not indicate any failure
While in the auto position at random times all my exterior light will turn off.i drive a lot for my job. The last time my lights turned out was last night on the freeway in a rural area complete black out. I quickly turned the switch to the off position and then back to auto. This has happened few time with in the last few weeks. A few months after i purchased the car, i noticed the turn signal would switch to the opposite direction after i completed my turn. The turn signal switch would be in the neutral position when this occurred. This also happens intermittently, while driving city or highway. I can not turn it off. I have to wait until it stops on its own, which luckily has just been the same length of time as a lane change.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento with a trailer in tow. The contact stated that the brake light on the trailer remained illuminated while driving. The vehicle was taken to kia fort walton beach (located at 343 miracle strip parkway, fort walton beach, fl 32548, (850) 275-2206), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v862000 (trailer hitches, electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 12835928. The approximate failure mileage was 68,100.
1 week after purchasing my 2017 kia sorento fe awd from rochester tom kadlec kia in august 2019, i went to use my cruise control and it wouldn't set. "cruise" came on, but could not be set to my speed. Issue happened around 1-2 times a week on 45 mile commute on highway.later on about a month later, i set my cruise control and once set, the speed began to climb. Starting at 65, and going up to 70 before i had to use my brakes to turn cruise control off as the buttons didn't work.on dec 16th, my car showed a check engine light then stalled after putting it into drive from reverse. I turned the car off, then back on and drove "normally". Took it into the shop same day for an oil change and they read the codes, "p2106, p2110, p063 limp mode and throttle actuator control range" they also noted my vehicle has a timing cover gasket and oil pan gasket leak, and my battery tested at 12.39volts and 339cca out of 640cca. Recommended battery replacement.my shop asked me to check the dealership for my warranty, and it's 5 years or 60,000 miles. I came into the shop at 62,334 miles. The kia dealership refused to look into the issue unless i paid 160 for their own inspection, and even then, it'd be highly unlikely they would do any goodwill repair.replaced battery 12/26/19 after multiple failures and jumps to start, and finally wouldn't take a charge or jump.
On 3/24/2019, our 2017 kia sorrento with 30k miles on completely shut down on the freeway. All lights went on and off, the car shook from side to side and the car shut down we lost steering and power brakes while we were going 70mph on the freeway. Luckily we were able to get to the side of the freeway. This happened 2 more times and then we had the car towed to a dealership for service. This could have easily caused a life threatening car accident and we no longer feel safe driving this kia. Now the service dealer is not able to replicate this incident which has happened to others we are reading about so then the dealership says, "no issue." this car has been recalled for this exact issue (although not our vin apparently). This is our first and last experience with the kia - very disappointing. We bought the top of the line kia because it was rated so highly for safety but now we are not even comfortable driving it. My children were in the car and lives could have been lost.
I was driving my car going 50mph or 60mph and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the car slowed down while i had my feet on the gas pedal all the way down to the floor causing me to have to pull over immediately when in traffic. I cut the car off and let it sit for a couple of mins and when i cut it back on it sounded like the car was idiled to high. I tried to driver again only for the car to jerk and seemed like it was driving itself only to slow down again to only 10mph with my feet all the way down on the gas pedal.
After using cruise control for approx. 4 hours, the computer in our car suddenly shut off the cruise control on its own and the parking break light illuminated on our dash panel.brake however was not engaged.another amber colored warning light was illuminated but i can't recall what it said. We pulled over, turned car off and when we started it back up, the brake light was no longer on and we were able to resume using cruise control. There was a previous incident where the cruise control deactivated itself while driving but not sudden stops initiated it or warning lights came on when this happened.
On may 18,2021 my kia sorento sxl awd v6 caught on fire for unknown reason. I was driving with windows open sunroof open and cruise set. Not a single warning light or any weird sounds at all. A car pulled up yelling at me that my car was on fire to pull over off the interstate. I saw nor smelled any smoke anywhere but then i saw a cop had someone pulled over so i figured it would be safe since i was an alone female and it was car of males yelling at me to pull over. As soon as i got out and walked to the front of the car there was still no smoke but flames and what i assumed was plastic dripping from the entire underneath. At this time flames shot out from all around the hood and up the windshield as it instantly shattered. As i ran for my life as stuff kept exploding the state trooper had already called for help so fire department arrived in less then 3 min but my car was gone in less than 45 seconds after i stepped out. I am mentally and physically hurt but luckily only a burn the size of a quarter on my wrist but due to shock while watching my car burn and explode my legs gave out and i sat down hard so 5 days after the fire my legs have recovered from running up an incline for my life but my back pain has only increased. But insurance only covers injuries from the car so running from exploding cars and getting injured is not their problem. Just like kia allowing all of us sorento owners to drive our family and loved ones around on a bomb waiting to blow at any moment isnā€™t their problem either. I have now seen at least 8 2017 sorento sxl unexplained fire complaints all ending in total loss while only looking on this site and one other site. I have pictures and videos of the fire and how close i was to being in the car as u can see my hoodie laying in front of the car on fire too. Fire started on passenger side of motor just like the defect they supposedly fixed in 2014. If anyone else especially the grandchildren that canā€™t get themselves out of would have died
We drove home from a weekend out of town. The trip took 5 hours. When we arrived home i let the dogs out of the car, grabbed two suit cases and brought them into the house. When i went outside to finish unpacking the car (5 minutes later) the car was completely engulfed in flames at this point i had my wife call 911 and tried to get things out of my car this was impossible. We lostthe kia and another car it was parked next to as well as significant damage to our home. The car was parked in the driveway and was turned off 5 minutes prior to discovering the fire. Within 15 minutes both cars and my garage were in flames.
I have been trying to get the kia dealership in gainesville, ga to postpone the oil consumption testing due to the coronavirus concerns my husband and i have.the manager of the dealership said that the oil consumption testing has a protocol, the testing cannot be cancelled.i keep telling everyone, the dealership, kia motors, that i did not say to cancel the testing, just to postpone it.the same as the united states supreme court did, they put their work on hold due to concerns of the coronavirus concerns.i cannot check my oil consumption because the oil dipstick is sealed, if i remove it the manager of the dealership said i would void my warranty and it would be my responsibility, my liability if something goes wrong.this dealership put the seal on the dipstick, this dealership needs to remove it.i will continue the testing after the coronavirus concerns are over.the dealership nor kia motors will authorize me in writing that it is okay for me to have the seal on the oil dipstick removed and that i will not void my warranty. Nhsta please help me !!
While driving my kia sorento around the engine rpms would rev up then drop off the transmission would not do anything. This happens while driving at 35 mph and while stopped at a traffic light. I took it to the dealer and they said they could not find the problem. Or a code for the problem. As soon as we left the dealer about 1 traffic light away the problem happened. I logged the time and date and went home.
Engine just lost almost all power, car has only 5000 miles, had same problem when we first bought new car after 24 hrs took it back and they gave us this one ,someone is going to get seriously hurt if not killed with engine losing power, car is in kia shop now ,very dissapointedin this car, have been a kia owner15 yrs with 5 new cars
When driving vehicle for more than 30 minutes, engine begins to overheat. Vehicle is fine while driving but when waiting at stop sign or red light engine begins to overheat rapidly. Also, when driving uphill same engine heating problem occurs. After engine starts over heating from issues mentioned above problems worsen, after wards issues extend to engine over heating while driving in constant speed or c cruising at same speed
My 2017 kia sorento has 73,000 miles and before the last oil change i observed the oil light came on. The kia dealer informed me that my engine is burning oil and it was 2 quarts low on oil. I have the 100,000 mile warranty on the suv. Kia dealer service inform me to comeback after 1,000 miles and they will check it again. The engine should not be burning oil at 73,000 miles. I get my oil change every 3,000 miles.
There has been two occasions in which the car turn off. Lucky it has been while the car was park. One of the occasion we had just pull over when suddenly the car turn off. I find that unusual since this is a new car and it should be happening. Has there been any other complaints about this model? i wouldn't want this to happen to me while driving.

Feb. 2nd 2019 my 2017 kia sorento stalled twice in the driveway.my husband took it for a drive and it made a loud noise upon acceleration.he suspected it was the engine and it was towed to the dealer feb 3rd.feb 5th the service department finally called and said the engine failed and we will need a replacement. He stated since my husband did the oil changes and did not have documentation it would not be covered under warranty. My husband always did our oil changes and never had this problem.an engine should not fail in less than 2 years and i realize this is happening to many kias. We learned our lesson the hard way and will be paying out of pocket for repairs.my car has been in the shop for 2 weeks now.there is no engines available in the us and maybe they can get one from korea but shipping takes a week once they find one and the work will take a week.so i'm paying for a car i can't drive for at least 4 weeks.so frustrating.i called the service department feb 15th to check on the status of finding an engine for my sorento, he stated he would check with the parts department and call me back asap.still waiting.
8/19/19 i had a scheduled oil / filter change at dealership, mileage 50280.10/11/19 i checked my oil and there was no oil on the oil dipstick. There were no leaks, no oil on garage floor, no oil warning light.i brought it to the dealership same day, 10/11/19, i thought maybe the tech did not put correct amount of oil, i only had an addtl. 2700 miles and was not scheduled for an oil change yet.one of the techs put about 1 1/2 - 2 quarts of oil in it and told me to keep an eye on it.saturday, 12/07/19, it happened again,no oil was showing on the dipstick.i was going to have dealership do the oil change, i was close to the mileage to get one, but not quite, but instead of dealership doing oil change, he said to bring it back monday 12/09/19 to have a 'tech line' opened.i am the original owner of this 2017 kia sorento and it is still under warranty.

The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator flashed. The contact took the vehicle to metro kia of madison (5442 wayne terrace, madison, wi 53718) and was informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine). The dealer replaced the knock sensor. On another occasion, while traveling 45 mph, the same failure occurred with the check engine warning indicator flashing. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer and was informed that the vin was included in a new unknown recall. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Lost power, unable to accelerate.engine labored forced to drive at slow speed to dealer shop.car at dealers shop for 7 days.unable to get a pick up date.car has 16500 miles was in shop for factory recall prior to this problem.
White smoke in exhaust and loud grind when cold start. Paint is peeling in the back
I stepped on the accelerator to increase speed from 45 mph to 55 mph, but the car lost power & the "check engine light began flashing rapidly. I was nearly rear-ended, & went toward the curb, but did not want to wait for towing there (isolated: rt.183 schuylkill ounty, pa) & felt some power engagement, so put on "emergency flashers" & called dealer who'd just had this car in < 3 wks previously, for the 3rd time for my objection that " this car w/ < 15 k miles on it hesitates when i step on the gas", starting 6 wks p new car purchase & jan.26,2019 for a "product improvement" recall. I needed to drive 10 miles to my dr's appt & my car did lurch thru traffic light, but did not turn itself off. When the "codes" were read p flatbed towing to the dealer (savage kia), i was told that kia hdqtrs would decide b/c savage didn't recognize the codes. Sat. Am, 48 h p my car's self-destruction they called wanting to send my engine to kia hdqtrs & place a rebuilt engine (of indeterminate milage prior to its retooling) in my car w/< 15 k mi. Of wear on it. I noticed the ongoing class action suit wrt kia's design flaw in sorento engines & see no value in driving that model engine that the boobs kept insisting was perfectly fine til the recall notice came, then whatever they did was ineffective & the engine's rubble less than 250 miles later. I've forbidden the dealership to take apart my car or alter the codes while i learn more from independent sources. I want a full, not a partial refund of all money, as kia holds the lien on this defective, inadequately serviced item & they can study it, but not @ my expense...
Car stalls for no apparent reason while driving. The dealer can't find anything wrong because it's not showing any codes. First time car was towed to dealership. Second time the car started back up so i drove it to the dealer. This can cause a major accident.
Car has had hesitation since bought new in 2017.multiple complaints to dealer. Pdf's will be attached of ro's. Still does it. Car does it when rolling slow or pulling away from stop light. Will not do it in sport mode.
The car stalled while i was driving. No warning lights (no check engine light, temp, etc.) or warning.i pulled over, turned it off then back on and started to hear a low knocking in motor.it ran for a few miles, then stalled at a light.i turned off then back on then made it home. At home my husband checked the oil and it looked "milky".when he tried to drive it to the kia it made a loud noise in the motor and died.we towed it to kia.kia tells us that because the oil is ""murky" they will not uphold the 100,000 warranty (under 80,000 miles on the car).we believe the change in oil is due to a defect.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle started making an abnormal sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to destination kia (760 central ave, albany, ny 12206) where the contact was informed that the vehicle needed to be test driven to determine the cause of the failure. Upon test driving the vehicle, the contact was informed that the engine was blown and that she was responsible for replacing the engine. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated while driving 65 mph when the vehicle began to decelerate independently until reaching 20 mph and went into limp mode. The contact stated the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated she depressed the accelerator pedal but the vehicle failed to go over 20 mph. The contact was able to continue driving to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the o2 sensor to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continues experiencing failure a total of 5 times. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,664.
After oil change , within 1500miles missing 2 quartz of oil. Not normal.
Engine burns up oil very quickly way before 3,000 miles and there are no alerts that the oil is low. Steering gets "stuck" at times for brief amounts of time and needs to be readjusted in the road. This happens on straight highways and in curve. Windshield wiper fluid function does not work.
Test#5 - excessive oil consumption testing.mileage 61,719 - down 1 quart of oil at 1030 miles (from mar. 09 2020 work order.)we had to remove the zip tie morning of 4/19/2020 in order to check oil consumption. My husband had a medical emergency and i did not want to be stranded in case the engine seized up, caught fire, as the dealership service manager told us it will do if no oil in engine.the kia dealership in gainesville, ga does not approve of removing seal, the oil testing has a 'protocol'. The oil testing protocol is more important to them then the coronavirus protocol.i did not cancel my oil consumption testing, i will continue to monitor engine oil every 1000 miles and report oil consumption.kia motors knows of the four consecutive tests that the dealership did, oil consumption down 1-2 quarts every 1000 miles.this vehicle is garaged, garage attached to home, if vehicle catches fire, there may be serious injuries or deaths.it's a 2 family duplex.

The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated that the engine assembly failed. The vehicle was to be serviced by vandevere kia (328 w market st, akron, oh 44303, 330-253-6137) for a product improvement campaign to update the ecu with a knock sensor detection alert. The alert would notify the vehicle owner when there may be a limp mode condition that could prevent the vehicle from exceeding 25 mph. The contact was concerned that the interim feature may only alert the driver and was not a permanent remedy. The manufacturer was notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle wasincluded in the product improvement campaign, but was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 17v586000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
I cranked my car, put it in drive, and started to pull out of my driveway when my car shook and stalled. All of my lights came on. I then tried to restart my car but it continued to crank over without starting. I gave it a minute and tried it again. The car started, i drove away, stopped at the stop sign, and the car stalled again. I cranked the car again, put it in reverse, it chugged backwards, and then stalled once i got back into my driveway. I let it sit for 5 minutes, cranked it again, then it was fine.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated that there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to greenway kia west palm beach located at (735 s. Military trl, west palm beach, fl 33415), where the engine was replaced. About six months later, the vehicle stalled and lost power and was taken back to the dealer. The dealer replaced the wiring harness. The failure recurred and the same dealer replaced the knock sensor. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer who kept the vehicle for a couples of weeks and was unable to repair the failure. The better business bureau told the contact that as a second owner, the vehicle did not qualify for a lemon law protection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
Had recall for pi1802 knock sensor update.2 weeks later went to get up to speed on highway and went into limp mode.told engine needed to be replaced.wait a month and pick up car.turns out only wiring harness was replaced.another few weeks and i go to get on another highway in fast lane and it happens again - limp mode.told engine not replaced, now it will be and without the car again and engine back ordered.do not qualify for lemon law - 2 years and under 11,000 miles.how does shutting down the engine to save the engine be of higher concern than the passengers in the vehicle????not happy and not much i can do since lease.if and when i get it back its being traded - i refuse to sit in it again.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle lost all motive and electrical functionality. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled over and the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to a dealer but was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and suggested that the vehicle be taken to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
Was driving from work to home. (approximately a 10 mile trip.) there was no indication of engine trouble or any warning lights on at all.about half way my car began to rumble and not shift.now an engine light indicates along with an oil pressure gauge.as i find a safe place to pull over my car shuts down.there was no prior indication that my car needed oil or service.
On four different ocasions this vehicle completely died each time while going different speeds. One of these times i was in high speed traffic on an expressway, almost causing a wreck. The first time it died i was on a road going about 40 miles per hour, the second time the check engine light came on and it started making a surging sound. The third time i was in high speed traffic going 65 and it completely died, the fourth time i had just started driving and was going about 15 mph when it died.
My car died going 50mph and was later determined that the engine seized. I bought the car a year prior inspected and had the oil changed. I only owned the car for a year.
I was driving my 2017 kia sorento about 30mph early today going about 30mph when all of a sudden i heard a loud clunk from the rear end and the engine, all lighting, electrical, power steering and brakes just shut off.i was able to coast to a stop put the car in park.i then restarted it and it was fine.the dealer could find nothing wrong with it.this is very dangerous.what happens if i am going 70 mph and the car shuts down like this.since the dealer could not duplicate the event there is no solution.
After 650 miles:merging onto a highway:engine rattled.engine died.we coasted to the shoulder.we stopped.i put the vehicle in park.smoke was coming from under the hood.looking underneath, we saw the car was on fire.initially the fire was under the engine. We got away from the car and called 911.the fire department came and put it out.by this point it burned the front 2/3 of the car.the car got towed to an automotive towing place.
I was stopped at a red light on a city street and struck head on by another vehicle. The damage is shown below in the uploaded image. My airbags did not deploy.
While driving 70mph on highway vehicle started to have knock in engine i pulled off at next exit and as i was exiting vehicle lost power and stopped. Know warning or instrument lights lit up before or after engine failure. Vehicle only has 10,100 miles, last oil change was at 7,100 with recommendation for oil change at 10,194 miles. Called kia customer service and they were rude and not helpful at all.
Check engine light started flashing and engine speed became restricted. Took to kia dealership and said kia agreed to replace engine under warranty. 2 months later ive gotten no info from kia as to when to expect a new engine. It was 3 weeks then 6 weeks may be as long s 4 months
My 2017 kia sorento has had repeated oil leaks due to multiple oil pressure switch assembly failures.at 27,000 miles my kia experienced a significant oil leak (identified by me due to the strong smell of oil burning coming from the a/c.)kia replaced the oil pressure switch part #94750-37100 at that time.again at 60,000 this same part failed (again identified by the strong smell of burning oil coming from the engine) and once again kia replaced the oil pressure switch (part #94750-37100.)having the same part fail twice in 60,000 and having oil leaks repeatedly is not only a fire hazard (i would point you to a similar problem you forced gm to perform a recall in 2015) but this could severely shorten the life of the car engine as well.
Bought the car in 2018 march i have a 2017 sorento. Have done regular 5000 oil changes. Kia said it was sludge in engine, however there are metal shaving inside the the oil and sludge caused by crank shaft. As of now no recall. Out of warranty by 5000 miles. Current situation waiting for "good faith" help appeal. Was denied statingnot maintaining oil changes. Got proof provided to service dept and waiting for decision. This could have gone real wrong. No engine warning light no oil lights ever came on. Thankful i was not driving on highway( with baby )and engine could have shut down. I heard knocking and took it directly to kia.they kia service dept advised not to drive so i left it there. I have a rental and its been a week today. Still waiting for answer. The whole reason buying this kia was for a reliable car for my family. It is 2 yrs old no reason engine failure. My problems are similiar to other reports i have read so there is a major issue with kia motors.
We change our own oil, and, noticed at approx. 5,000 miles after oil change, oil was down approx. 2.5-3 quarts.changed oil again, 1,000 miles later, oil down 1.5-2 quarts.took to kia dealer, they changed oil again, started oil consumption test.after this, drove home, went to runsome errands, engine lights starts flashing, couldn?t get more than 45-50 mph out of it.had it towed to kia dealer, they done reprogramming of ecm.not even 100 miles later, was on highway, dropped to 45 mph again, with semi truck behind us.was not far from dealer, so, drove it there.has been there since 3/23/20.kia allegedly can?t get tech there due to pandemic, but, isn?t there telecommunications tech work that could be done?as rentals have to be renewed every 30 days due to insurance regulations, dealer already paid approx. $1300 on first rental vehicle, now in second rental.which is going to cost more, rental or repairs/replacement?is kia corp. Trying to bankrupt their dealers by doing this practice?this vehicle is under a ?certified pre-owned? warranty, as well as, an extended warranty as well.dealer also frustrated kia corp. Keeps putting them off as well, with 4 vehicles sitting on their lot, waiting. For tech as well.i just wonder nationwide, how many dealers are having same issues, and how many other owners/vehicles are affected?
January 17, 2020, i am still under the excessive oil consumption testing.i went to the dealership as they told me to on dec. 30 2019, i met my 1000 miles,it was down 1 qt. Of oil. The dipstick is 'sealed' to the electric harness, they claim it will not catch on fire.hopefully it won't. So far with the testing, the oil is down 1 quart every 1000 miles, the engine only holds abt. 5 1/4 quarts of oil.the manufacturer recommends oil change every 7500 miles.the service tech said they are having excessive oil consumption problems with the 2.0 and 2.4 engines, i have a 2.4 engine.this vehicle is scary, i feel unsafe driving it, it may catch on fire.service tech told me it will take a total of 4 sealed dipstick testing, i have two more to go.
Over the last several months, my engine had been burning oil excessively.i had to add 5 quarts of oil every 1-2 weeks.3 weeks ago, while driving on the highway, my car began to slow, the lights on my dash were blinking and the car was not accelerating. When i was in a safe area, i attempted to restart the car and it did not start.kia diagnosed the car with worn bearing rods.the car is 4 years old and has 136,000 highway miles.
December 19,2019 our 2017 kia sorrento with 37k miles on it would not start. The temperature was below zero and thought that has something to do with it.initially the car tried turning over but after a few attempts, it stopped doing anything. We worked through a number of problem solving steps and after a while called roadside assistance and they towed the car to the kia dealership where we leased it from.on december 23, we called for a status and were told the engine is seized. The service department said the oil drained was black and sludge. They went on to say we did not change the oil and will be responsible for a new engine and labor.the oil was changed on time as the kia reminds you of the service. There was no notice or indication that there was an issue, just seized. At approximately 20,000 miles on the car, the transmission blew and needed that repaired as well. Seeing others describe a similar issue makes me think this is a design flaw. Kia should make this a recall and provide restitution.
Engine failed at 94,000 miles while driving. Main bearings in engine ceased up due to lack of oilflow thru the ports. This was a known problem with kia engines but i never a recall notice.
The engine light came on on the dash board and the engine power was decreasing. I exited the highway and made it to a grocery store parking lot when the engine died.the car was no longer operational and was towed to kia patterson in arlington, tx.they said the engine needed to be replaced and that it was not under warrantee.i cost $7429.97 to replace the engine.
This car is unsafe because the oil just disappears without any obvious external leak and does not utilize the oil light to indicate the vehicle needs oil as it does with the gas light and flat tire alerts . This can cause the engine to catch fire or car to reduce speed or stall while driving .the engine just consumes or looses oil and you have to check it daily - can you imagine the headache and financial burden to put oil in a car every other day . Kia needs to fix this issue , it's more common than you think across the us .
Received a notice for an update took the vehicle in for service because we were going to california for x-mas and wanted to make sure that my car was in good working order.while driving the vehicle it went into limp mode and the engine was makinga knocking noise the vehicle stopped all together on the interstate 10 going west bound.placed a call to kia and arranged for a tow into the nearest kia dealership for a loaner so we could continue our trip.this happened on december 28, 2018 and to this date i still do not have my car.in the beginning they were waiting for part numbers.the part numbers were issued on 3/19/19 but there is not an estimated delivery date.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. While driving 52 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. In addition, while the vehicle was parked, the engine indicator illuminated without warning. The contact stated that the rpms malfunctioned without warning. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,700.
This kia sorento makes a very high over-revving noise while driving up the street. The kia often seems to try to find the gear it needs to be in while driving and makes a loud engine noise when going up hill or driving more than 20 mph. This kia also makes a internal clicking noise when making right turns, which is often worse when turning on an incline. The engine has a loud rattle noise when started and the car is often hard to start, meaning when i turn the ignition key, the car may start 50 percent of the time on the first start.
There is an oil consumption problem in kia engines. And kia refuses to cover the problem. I was told the oil consumption issue will cause my engine to completely fail and yet they refuse to cover it under the warranty. My neighbor has the same make and model and her car nearly crashed because of the same failure.for a year i was told kia would cover the repairs when the engine eventually fails and today august 19 2021, i was told they wonā€™t cover the engine failure due to oil consumption issues. An issue they finally have a test for but refuse to do because ā€itā€™s not covered by the warranty.ā€¯ i have a 100,000 mile engine warranty. I have my oil changed every 3,000 miles and take very good car of a car they know is going to break down. And still there is no recall. There are thousands of complaints about this exact problem. And people being forced to pay 5-7 grand out of pocket for an issue that must be covered. Kia knows itā€™s a problem and they all say well if anything else goes wrong we will test your car then ā€maybeā€¯ it will be covered. Meanwhile, my car is literally a ticking time bomb. That apparently a kia warranty wonā€™t cover.please, for the thousands of people like me, investigate and expose kia for this serious issue. I donā€™t want my car to seize or explode because of a problem kia knows of and refuses to repair or recall.
2017 kia sorento. Consumer writes in regards massive fuel leak engine fire. *ldthe consumer stated the vehicle leaked two gallons of fuel onto the engine cover. The vehicle burst into flames. The vehicle was destroyed along with some personal items.
I brought my vehicle to the dealership dec 09 2019 (mileage 56176) as instructed by service tech in order for them to check reason this vehicle is using a lot of oil in between oil changes.service tech checked oil and found oil was down 1.25 qts.service tech opened tech line case and sent pictures to kia.i was instructed to return to dealership to recheck oil level in 1000 miles.today, dec. 30 2019, (mileage 57231) i returned to dealership.oil was down 1 qt. After 1055 miles.if you do the math, engine only holds 5.5 quarts of oil, if i go the entire 7500 miles in between oil change(as per owner manual) i would be out of oil.service tech added 1 qt. Oil and put in a sealed dipstick so i cannot check oil level.how am i to know oil level? i park vehicle in my garage. When i questioned tech about this he said it was on kia's liability if something were to happen.i would know when the engine is out of oil, the engine will start knocking, and he made the knocking sound on the counter. That is really helping my husband and i comfort level, if someone gets hurt or killed, what does it matter?there are other people on the roads that could be injured or killed if something happens to my vehicle.my vehicle could catch on fire, cause injuries or death to us and / or others.service tech would not say what kia is doing about this matter when i asked him.he just said kia is looking into it.he gave my husband and i the impression he knows what is going on, he said he was not at liberty to discuss any further.the service tech also stated that it is up to the owners to check their own oil levels.now i cannot check the oil level, it has a sealed dipstick.he is contradicting himself, make no sense.
After complaint # 1399932, kia service called me march 5th to say the turbo needed to be replaced.
I go the car 2018,i had the car for 13months,2019 i got my oil change in york kai, pa. The car had a recall on it: kia installed a 21513 23001 gasket- oil plug, 26300 35504 filter assy - engine o. Now 12mos. Later i need a new engine,i had 2 diag>done and both place said i need a new engine, the 4ring faulty.i feel like know one is trying to help me to replace this engine.i need help, not fair to me 2017 car new a new engine,i only had it for 13mos.the car shakes when i stop,it slows down when driving.thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope i can get some help.
While driving on the freeway at approx. 70mph the sorento lost all engine power and shut down.no check engine or any other warning light came on.prior to the shutdown there was no performance issue with the sorento, or any indication there was an engine problem.driver was able to get sorento to the shoulder.car restarted but only for 1/4 mile and shut down again.couldn't be restarted.kia said needed a full engine replacement, wouldn't honor warranty.
My care burns oil yo almost empty before the 3000 mile oil change
While driving (in motion) the vehicle, on a city street, i immediately lost power, coasted to curb, turned vehicle off (although engine was not running). Several attempts to restart the car have been to no avail. Prior to this event, the vehicle appeared to be working great with no warning or sensor lights. Vehicle had to be pushed in local hotel parking lot.took the vehicle to two vehicle repair garages, including a kia dealer and was told that my engine had seized (locked) and that i would need another engine to affect repair.
Feb 07 2020 - mileage: 59,211 - this is my last 'excessive oil consumption' test with dealership. My 2017 kia sorento was down 1.7 quarts of oil (more like 2 qts as the engine was hot and the tech agreed, more like 2 qts.) after 1002 miles, that averages out to about 1 qt oil every 500 miles. The tech said he would submit all testing results to kia motors.he also said to check oil every 1000 miles and to add oil if needed, do not let it run out of oil. My next oil change is sch at 61176 miles, that's about 1965 miles, i will probably have to add 3.93 qts before my sch oil change if still 1 qt. Every 500 miles still applicable.the original dipstick was yellow, they replaced it with an 'orange' one ever since the testing began.they said the original dipstick was not reading correctly and all kias having this 'excessive oil consumption' problem will have dipsticks replaced with the orange ones.
Engine light is on try to drive it's stopping and it's a knocking noise coming from engine
Test 5 - oil consumption - mileage 61,719 (down 1 quart at 1030 miles after mar 09 2020 work order)we had to remove the oil dipstick seal morning of 4/19/2020, my husband had a medical emergency and i did not want the engine to seize up, catch fire, as the gainesville, ga kia dealership told us it would do if the engine ran out of oil.the dealership does not approve of removing the seal, they take oil consumption 'protocol' over the coronavirus protocol.i did not cancel the oil consumption testing, i will continue to report oil consumption every 1000 miles.kia motors usa has 4 consecutive tests, all 4 tests prove oil down 1-2 quarts every 1000 miles.this vehicle is garaged, garage is attached to home, if catches fire it could cause injuries or deaths.it's a 2 family duplex. Nhtsa - help, please help !!
Showing 137 miles to next service and i smelt oil burning so i had my husband check the oil and it had 0 yes 0 oil on the dipstick i had called the dealership earlier this week tuesday the 26th to be exact and an appointment set for tuesday april 2 as it was the earliest appointmenttime to get the oil changed however; after my husband checked and it showed zero oil in vehicle i took it to valvoline express care who noted oil level off dip stick on arrival and paid $66.48 to have the oil changed i had zero indications that there was no oil in this vehicle i think the only thing that kept it from locking the engine was i changed and flushed the oil and use synthetic oil to which the dealership frowned upon as it is newer car but i prefer to use synthetic oil in all my vehicles for this purpose!!i have no clue how long it was without oil and have never smelt oil burning until last night to which i took it get serviced first thing this morning and paid out of pocket when i have an agreement with the dealership that we paid extra for to have them service the vehicle at no cost when i go!!!we take care of our vehicles if i feel it is too long before kia dealership can service the vehicle i have paid in past and always used the valvoline express care as that is where i take all my other vehicles.please see the service comments on the attached invoice from today's service.my engine could have damage or even blown from this!!!there was no indication that it was leaking oil on the skid plate so either the dealership did not put any oil in the vehicle at my last oil change or there is something going on with my engine!!
15-dec-2016: traveling approx. 50 mph during heavy traffic in marietta, ga, the vehicle had a complete loss of power therefore preventing the operator of said motor vehicle to have complete loss of control of the vehicle, (myself) thus, illustrating a serious safety defect. This issue could have resulted in serious injury, the loss of life of myself or other motorist, and or a catastrophic event to property and infrastructure. The engine light did come on during this incident and ever since i have been extremely fearful to operate my vehicle ever since. 2. 22-dec-2016: engine light, rpms accelerate, while vehicle is in park/ drive. I was parked and the rpms accelerated for no reason. I have video footage of this incident.3. 05-jan-2017: engine light, rpms accelerate, while vehicle is in park/ drive. Vehicle wanted to accelerate while parked. Vehicle jerked when shifting into park or drive. Vehicle accelerated without applying any throttle. Accelerated very fast had to hold brakes with significant force to prevent from accelerating. I have video footage of this incident. 4. 16-jan-2017: engine light, rpms accelerate, while vehicle is in park/ drive. Vehicle seems to skip a gear when stopped and trying to accelerate. 5. Front ofvehicle shook and has problems accelerating coming from a complete stop or up a hill. Feels like it misses a transmission gear when trying to accelerate. 0-10 mph ok but 10-35 you have to press accelerator significantly, then over speeds. 3 different kia dealerships including 5 incidents have taken place and and each have failed to identify the problem or make repairs. Kia corporate told the last dealership to park vehicle and not make an attempt to repair. Vehicle has been inoperable for 31 day total in kia's custody (service repair center).lemon law proceedings pending.
Was driving down the street engine started to make loud noise and stalled coasted to a parking lot. Noticed smoke got out to find the engine engulfed in flames.
I own a 2017 kia sorento with 45,000 miles. My check engine light kept coming on along with engine noises. Each time i would bring it into layton, ut kia service center, i was told it was just o2 sensors and one time it needed the engine harness replaced.just 3 weeks after my last visit to the service center, i was driving on the freeway and my car just suddenly lost power and went limp. I had it towed to the service center where they told me i need a new engine and it won't be covered under my warranty stating it was caused by lack of maintenance causing engine sludge. Because we had my husbands company change our oil some of the time ( kia actually did emissions and changed it 3 weeks prior) they would not accept their documentation on this. There is a recall for this exact thing happening on same year, make and model but only for 4 cylinder and we own a 6 cylinder. This is obviously a defect with the car.
On some occasions the steering was not smooth, as if it stuck just a little and i would have to lightly jerk it.this was always highway.then about a week ago my oil light flickered and i mean only a second and then again on the way home.when i checked my oil, there wasn't a drop on the dipstick and it looked to have a little burnt oil on very tip.it was also very hard to get the oil cap on to add oil.i had to add 3 quarts!why did my oil light come on before this and why did it not stay on?my car is a 2017 kia sorento and has only had maintenance at the dealer where it was bought.i was shocked when i looked online and saw this was an issue for years.why isnt someone making kia accountable?i cant afford to pay upfront for repairs and when courts decide years later maybe we'll get reimbursed, they don't wait on their payments for the vehicles.
Follow up to last two complaints.mar 16 kia service called to say a part if engine needed to be replaced a cylinder. Original problem began 2/7/2021
While exiting a highway, heard a noise. Steering became difficult. Engine stalled, all warning lights lit up. Smoke seen in rearview mirrors. Came to a stop and discovered a fire under the engine. Car was engulfed within 7 minutes. Total loss, nothing left.
Vehicle was slowed to a stop for a traffic signal.the vehicle then lunged forward in unintended acceleration requiring maximum break pressure to stop the vehicle.the engine was accelerating so the vehicle was shifted into park and turned off.waited 30 seconds and restarted the engine with no further problems.
Power steering went out. Radio turns on and off going down the road. Headlights turn off and on by themself. Battery is now dead. Car will not run. Transmission light came on all in one day..i've had this vehicle for 4 to 5 months
We returned to kia dealership 3/9/2020.we were low on oil again.this was after they told us this on our previous visit 2/7/2020 it was our last oil consumption testing.kia did a full oil and filter change at 60,689 miles.they started another 1000 mile 'oil consumption test' and sealed the dipstick, secured it with a plastic strap attached to the manifold, which the manifold gets extremely hot and could cause the strap to melt and or cause a fire.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue approved a rental vehicle for the inconvenience. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The failure mileage was 70,000.
While on auto, headlights turned off when they should not have.two times during dusk/twilight, and once during the night within a three week period.the time it happened at night, and the one time during twilight was on an unlit rural road .the occurrence during dusk was at a lighted rural intersection.
While driving my headlights will randomly just shut-off sometimes they will come right back on and other times it takes a few minutes for them to come back on. This happens several times a week.
My high beams don't want to turn on and when they do the only way to get them off is to turn my lights all the way off and back on. If you pull the bar towards you to briefly look at something, the high beams will not come on. Also my car is in the shop, it keeps kicking back when i go to stop. They say nothing is wrong with my high beams or my brakes, they say everything is fine.
Vehicle headlight polycarbonate plastic blistering, peeling, cracking and other severely deterioration aspects are happening in a fast, exponential manner.both headlights have continued to progress deteriorating since april, before the 3 year purchase period of the vehicle.we have owned 4 brand new kia vehicles, and none before this one have ever displayed this headlight housing deterioration before.we researched this type of deterioration to see if it was a common issue across kia and other vehicle manufacturers, and we did not find anything displaying anything that our headlights are producing outside of what one would consider normal wear (eventual discoloration).we are concerned for our nighttime driving safety regarding to this apparent manufacturing defect in the quality of the headlight plastic. We are concerned with the nighttime visibility eventually being compromised.
The headlights do not shine far enough for safe stopping in an emergency.deer ran on to road and almost hit it.
Driving down the road my headlights have cut off on their own 5 times. I have to turn the auto of and put it on manual for them to work.
While driving at night i attempted to dim lights for oncoming traffic when my lights went completely out.
While driving down the road at night and the headlights set to auto, they will randomly turn off on their own. I have almost been in a head on collision because of this. Turning the light control manually to either off or manual on and then back to auto gets them back on. How can such a safety issue not be addressed? i see posts about this all over the interent - especially for the 2017 model. The dealership wants to charge me $500 to replace the wiring! the vehicle has under 35k miles. Please approach kia and have them issue a recall for this issue. People who live in rural areas without lit roads can be serious injured - especially if its the first time it occurs and they are not prepared to fiddle with the light control to get it operating again. Date provided in the form represents the most recent occurrence of the issue - not the only.
Headlights turned off while i was driving on the freeway twice this week. The first time it happened i got them back on by switching them off then back on. The second time they went off for a few seconds and came back on without me doing anything.
Headlights are in automatic and while driving at night/evening they will randomly cut out. 5-10 seconds at a time. Always while moving. This has gotten worse over time. After some research this appears to be the same problem kia issued a recall for on other vehicles 2015-2016 k900 vehicles. There are plenty of online forums stating this issue with other sorentos in various years.
The headlights turn off during night-time driving without warning. The dashboard indicator shows that the headlights are off.this has happened a total of 6 times when the lights are in the "automatic" position.this has happened at highway speed on a completely dark road, at highway speed on a lit highway, in parking lots, and in the village at 30 mph. We are using manual headlight mode at night until the problem is resolved. The cause of the problem is unknown.
While driving at night the headlights will turn off and on usually last 10 to 15 seconds, does this at all speeds and and all roads. Will cause you to loose sight of road on non lit roads. This has happened about 10 times in the last few months
The headlights are dangerous! there is a dark shadow line directly in the sight line of the driver through the entire windshield that i find myself ducking down to try and see out the window but that does not help. I cannot drive the vehicle at night it is very distracting and dangerous.it has severely impacted my children's lifestyle as we cannot go out as the dark roads in new jersey are even more dangerous with the headlights not working properly.
2 problems: 1. Over the last several months the lights will turn off when driving at night in the auto position. It doesn't matter if it's a lighted street or dark road. This is very dangerous. It has happened at least 7 times.2. Now the the exterior lights randomly turn on minutes to hours after the car is off when lights are in the auto position. This happened three times in the last 4 days. The vehicle is now at the dealer but so far they have not found anything.the date is the most recent that the lights turned on.
When the headlights are in the auto setting, they will randomly turn off while driving. I most often notice this at night, but i can see it happens at times during the day if the lights are on because i notice the dashboard indicators change. This sometimes occurs after using the turn signal, but that's not always the precursor. It happens when going 65 mph on a highway, going 45 mph on exit ramps, on 25 mph on local streets. I reported the issue to kia customer service, and they said i had to take to a dealer. I took it to a dealer in october 2018. The technician drove it 50 miles round trip to and from his home, but could not reproduce the issue. The issue continued intermittently and i took it to a different dealer in september 2019. They diagnosed the problem as a bad electronic control unit and ordered the part. I returned to the dealer on october 12, 2019, to have the part installed. While driving later that night, the headlights turned off while i was going 65 mph on interstate 270. I tried to quickly jiggle the lever, and then the lights turned back on. Many others have reported this same issue. It's obviously dangerous, and kia should figure out the problem and issue a recall.
While driving at night, and also when starting car at night.i leave my lights on auto.lately my lights have been turning off, while driving on back roads and on interstate.i have to trn light switch to off then turn to on.
My 2017 kia sorento headlights shut off for no reason when i am driving. When they are in auto mode they will turn off followed by a warning on my screen saying they have switched from auto to manual. I have to turn the knob to off then back on. They also shut off in manual mode. This is extremely dangerous and frightening, especially with my toddler in the back seat. I am told a tsb has been started and possibly a class action lawsuit. When will kia do a recall? one dealership told me they have no idea what it could be because it hasnt happened to them, another dealership said they have never heard of it but are willing to take a look to see if they can fix this but i will have to pay. This is not right since this is a kia defect with multiple complaints.
Discrepancies:1. [high danger to safety that could result in vehicle damage, personal injury, or loss of life] headlights shut off randomly while vehicle is driving or stationary and can not be recovered via manually switching through "auto: on: off"; lights may recover randomly while left in "auto" position; high beams still work while this happens (this has happened on multiple occasions)2. Exterior lighting has turned on randomly in the middle of the night on 2 occasions, killing the battery by morning.
At random times, all at different speeds and different times of the day, my exterior lights will turn off on their own. I always keep my lights set to auto.this has happened quite a few times while driving at night, which has almost caused a few accidents when i find myself in the pitch black, when i wasn't around any street lamps. Sometimes the lights will come back on when i switch the lights to off and then back to auto. But not always.
I always use auto headlights mode to operate my car.the headlights could go dark from 2 to 6 seconds and then they will go back on automatically.it has happened about 7-10 times in the past two months while i was driving the vehicle. I do not know if this problem exist during daytime because it is bright out there.but when it is dark and the lights suddenly go off it becomes a safety hazard.i called the manufacturer but the only thing they told me is to take my car to the dealer.i do not want to do this because i feel that it will be so hard for the dealer to replicate the problem and find out possible solutions, so my time will be totally wasted at the dealer.
Headlights turn off and on intermittently at night. This occurs in the auto headlight mode. This while traveling. No external light sources of consequence to trigger shut off. Sometimes 30 sec others a minute or more. Scary on winding country roads.
While driving at night with the headlights in the auto mode, the headlights will periodically go off for 4 to 5 seconds before coming back on again.this has happened 10 times over the past 10 months.we were told by kia dealership service department they could not duplicate the issue and recommended driving at night with the headlights turned on in the manual position.the issue has occurred when the car is in motion on the highway, on city streets, on straight roads and on corners.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving with the auto headlight function activated, the headlights became inoperable. The contact stated that the headlights independently activated on several occasions which caused the battery to drain while the vehicle was turned off. Air port kia (3325 westview dr, naples, fl 34104, (239)732-8910) was contacted however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,000.
2017 kia sorento, awd, mileage ~30k.when the headlights are set to "auto", they will randomly turn off, usually when i activate a turn signal. It happens at all speeds, on all types of road, most often when i'm turning. I've had several 'close calls' at night.obviously, if the lights turn off unexpectedly, not only can i not see my path forward, but others can't see me either.this is serious issue, well known to kia and should be subject to a recall before someone dies or is seriously injured.it has happened numerous times, most recently on the date shown below.
I have owned the car for two years on one occasion while driving the headlights shut off i turned switch to off then back to auto and the lights came on.on two occasions the lights were on after the car was shut off, parked and locked pressing the remote lock button shut off the lights.on one occasion the parking lights turned on at 2am (neighbor's camera picked it up) pressing remote lock button shut off the lightsanother occasion i tried starting the car in the morning and the battery was dead, i suspect that the lights turned on at night and didn't shut off.
Head lights turn off while driving down the road
Head lights go off when driving, then come back on when set in the auto mode
In auto mode when driving at night the headlights and dashboard lights turn off without warning.
The headlights have gone out on two separate occasions, while operating the vehicle at night with theheadlight control in the auto mode. The headlights completely shutdown for approximately 2 to 3 seconds during this issue and automatically came back on.both times this occurred at highway speeds with no other light source in the area.the vehicle has been checked by the local kia dealer.the issue could not be duplicated by the service department and no trouble codes were found.we have been instructed to only operate the vehicle with the headlights in the manual mode.
Since august 2019,i have been experiencing intermittent headlights failure while driving and the headlights was set on auto.the headlights would shut off for 5-10 seconds unexpectedly and will turn on again.when it happens again this pastsaturday (11/7) , i noticed when the headlights went off, only the headlights symbol was lighted on the dash. Normally, when the headlights were switched on auto both the front and rear taillights and headlights symbol would be lighted on the dash. I have spoken to fairfax kia service technician about this problem but since the problem could not be reproduced, he was unable to resolve the issue.in reviewing your site, it appears other owners of 2017 kia sorento have had similar issues with the headlights shutting off while using the auto headlights feature.i feel this is a serious safety concern, therefore,i am hoping your agency will initiate an investigation on the matter to resolve the issue before someone gets seriously injured or die as a result of this issue.
While driving, the vehicle's headlights turn off without warning. This has happened on highways and on surface streets. In all cases the light control switch was on "auto." at least twice, the lights went off after using the turn signal to indicate a lane change. At least once, the dashboard display came up after several seconds, as if the driver was manually changing the lights from auto to on or off, but the driver was not touching the controls. In all cases the headlights came back on after several seconds.light indicators have come on during daylight hours as well, making it appear the issue happens during day and night.when returning to the vehicle after it was driven, then parked for an hour or more, we have also found the headlights and taillights all on. The lights would not go off without manually turning them off and then back to auto. The lights have also all come on in that same manner, when the car was parked and someone leaned up against it.
Headlights and dash board shut off randomly in auto mode during night time driving which causes immediate concern, fear of accident, and unwanted reactions such as looking away from road to find light stalk and fiddle with it to get lights to turn back on. Imagine driving the speed limit at 50 to 70 mph in various traffic conditions when you are surprised by this problem and what the to do when it happens!i have over 49000 miles on this car but the problem which i have documented twenty five instances has been in to several kia dealerships with each time being told it is not a common occurance and that they could not recreate the problem. This is a common response and dodge of the issue. Naturally they cannot recreate problem as this occurs during the night when dealership is closedtechs are at home. Given that there seems to be many instances of this problem reported it seems nhtsa is not doing enough to pressure kia to find a cause and recall 2017 sorentos for a fix that if it hasn't happened yet serious damage or death is bound to occur. Please pay attention and start some action before serious consequences occur!!!
While driving at night with headlights in auto position, lights will randomly turn off for seconds before turning back on.when this happens, you can see the change on the dashboard almost like it was manually being turned off, but it was not being touched.this has happened 4 times in one month.so far the dealer has not been able to replicate this issue.it is at the dealer now for the second time.
Headlight keep blowing
When the car's headlight switch is set to 'auto', the head and taillights will turn on and off at random, regardless of lighting conditions. The lights randomly turn on while the car is off and stationary and has resulted in a drained battery on three occasions. . the lights turn on and then back off while in motion during daytime driving (as indicated by the dashboard indicator). When on and while in motion at night, the lights turn off, resulting in zero visibility while driving.
Daytime driving lights turn on after vehicle completely off, hours later and can drain the battery if not caught intime.also while driving at night, lights go completely off by themselves and have to manually try to turn on, very dangerous and someone is going to die if not recalled.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated that the auto light switch failed to turn off the lights when the vehicle was shutoff. There was no warning light. The failure recurred twice. The contact stated that on one of the occasions it rained. The contact called the gateway kia of north brunswick nj dealer located at 720 carolier ln, north brunswick township, nj 08902, and was informed to turn the auto switch to the off position. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to the same dealer. The technician checked the vehicle and told the contact that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
2017 kia sorento. Consumer writes in regards massive fuel leak engine fire. *ldthe consumer stated the vehicle leaked two gallons of fuel onto the engine cover. The vehicle burst into flames. The vehicle was destroyed along with some personal items.
Strong gasoline odor was noticed coming from the rear of the vehicle. Took it to the dealership where they replaced the gas cap assuming that was the problem.gasoline odor progressively increased.took the vehicle back to the dealership.diagnostic tests were performed.inspection found fuel pump leaking fuel.no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms of the problem prior to the failure were ever displayed.this could have been extremely dangerous putting our family at risk.it also should have been covered due to being a safety risk.
Car has had hesitation since bought new in 2017.multiple complaints to dealer. Pdf's will be attached of ro's. Still does it. Car does it when rolling slow or pulling away from stop light. Will not do it in sport mode.
Our 2017 kia sorento v6with mileage of 54,882, underwent a multi-point inspection on mon., 10/08/2018 at luther kia of bloomington and was tech driven for 2 wks in an effort to duplicate the unintended, unexpected and uncontrolled acceleration of my vehicle.unfortunately, they were unable to verify the problem. They were apologetic in being unable to duplicate the problem and recommend we come back if the issue re-occurred. The service manageralso suggested we not use our gps hum locator unit/obd reader which connects into the vehiclediagnostic port.we agreed and did not reconnect it. Five weeks later, this afternoon, tuesday, nov 13, 2018 at 3:30 pmat the corner of 36 & white bear ave at a red light, i once again experienced sudden high power acceleration. Mileage on the vehicle is 56,574 miles. I was driving on hwy 36 e and exited the white bear ave exit.i applied the brake at the red traffic signal . The vehicle was at a standstill.when the light turned green, i slowly accelerated and as i was turning right onto white bear ave, i could feel the gears shifting and the vibration came up through my foot.i spoke outloud, the car is going to do it again.then the motor took off ?a high revving -racing?.i put my foot on the brake heavily and the car continued revving up.i put the vehicle in park and it didn't change anything.it continued an uncontrolled high power acceleration.i turned the ignition off as it is the only thing that ? stops it! i restarted the car and continued home without further incident. It is frustrating.this is the 5th time this has happened and each time the same passenger was in the car and can verify this sudden high power acceleration.i am writing because i think it is important to report this problem to you.
Vehicle was parked, and running, on sloped driveway. My wife, who had exited the car, returned to turn the car off.she opened the door and turned the car off. The car then began rolling down the driveway. The car door was still open and my wife ended up running backwards with the car, which went into a street and hit a curb. The door hit my my wife in the head causing her to fall. She sustained road rash abrasions on her hip and shoulder. She has no recollection of the incident. She spent a night in the hospital and had to undergo a ct scan, brain mri, eeg and hip xray. All those turned out negative. The diagnosis from the doctor was transient global amnesia.
Power steering went out. Radio turns on and off going down the road. Headlights turn off and on by themself. Battery is now dead. Car will not run. Transmission light came on all in one day..i've had this vehicle for 4 to 5 months
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. While the vehicle was stopped at a red light, the electric parking brake and autonomous function warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact shifted the gear into neutral and the vehicle regained normal function. The contact took the vehicle to beyer kia (1125 west broad street, falls church, virginia 22046, 703-349-0806) where it was diagnosed that the inhibitor switch caused the failure. The manufacturer was notified and mentioned an unknown technical service bulletin regarding the inhibitor switch. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 3,532. Consumer stated there was no gear indicator, epb light, aeb icon light, orange safety triangle, check aeb system, check bsd system, and the vehicle auto tran was shifting critically when consumer got to a red light, gear was stuck in park. Rear passenger left seat belt is locked will not release
Lr seat belt bayonet failed to return to flat, when passenger entered car, during turning and twisting getting in, head struck bayonet causing concussion.
Right side passenger seat has not warning/sound to remind passenger to fasten seat belt.spoke with dealer after purchase and was told the vehicle i purchased only has a reminder sound for driver side only.does not seem to coincide with requirements for seat belt notification.
When your in the passer seat and the seatbelt not hook up it doesn'talarmto let you know your seatbeltnot fasten. All there other vehicles do.
The front seat head rests push the head way too far forward and actually hurt my neck/shoulders when driving. Manual says some models have fore-aft adjustable headrest. Unfortunately mine do not, as i found out well after i purchased the suv. Did see same item in online discussions. My fix as suggested in online forum, was to turn the headrest around backwards. At least that prevented from the extreme head forward position, but also had to strap an additional cushion so that it was not too far back, as when you turn backwards it goes extremely far back. This is a known online issue and kia should supply a proper adjustable headrest as this would be a safety issue in an accident.
When your in the passer seat and the seatbelt not hook up it doesn'talarmto let you know your seatbeltnot fasten. All there other vehicles do.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact was able to get the vehicle to stop manually. The contact stated that the autonomous emergency braking system malfunctioned. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,000.
1.) driving vehicle at highway speed. Noticed parking brake light on (had not explicitly engaged brake). Tried to disengage parking brake, and the light stayed on. Pulled over, put car in park. Tried to disengage again, still would not. Turned car off, on again, was able to disengage.2.) driving city road, app 40mph, accelerator peddle became physically stuck, took foot off peddle, peddle stayed in position and car continued to accelerate. Tried to gently push peddle, but it would not disengage. Tapped peddle hard and it came loose. This has occurred twice. Car has 15k miles.
My dad 74 years old had an accident last month while he was driving this car on i90 highway.he told me that a car hit from behind of him while he was slowing down due to traffic and his foot was on break pedal to slow down. When he got hit from behind, he pushed break hard so he wouldn't hit a car in from of him but break pedal and gas pedal pushed together and he could not stop on time and hit a car in front of him. I have confirmed later with kia dealer if the location of break pedal and gas pedal location was correct and they told me it can not be adjust so it can prevent those two pedals pushed together when you hit the break.my dad is very scare to drive that knowing the car can push break and gas pedal together when you need to stop. I have checked my self it could happen very easy and very dangerous to drive. I have contact kia for help but they just told me it is way it is and ask me to file complaints with you.
Problem: intermittent problem with advanced smart cruise control and autonomous braking on a new 2017 kia sorento with less than 1100 miles. What happened: when using the advanced smart control feature, the smart cruise control will shut down randomly.on four occasions, while driving with smart cruise control, on a highway on a clear day, my kia's dashboard lit up with "check smart cruise control system."these additionalwarning lights lit up on the dashboard:anti-lock brake warning light, electronic brake force distribution system warning light, master warning light, and electronic stability control indicator light.the cruise control will not work and all lights stay on until the vehicle is turned off and then back on.after one occurrence, i took the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the problem.as this only happens randomly they were not able to replicate the problem.the vehicle was also not storing any diagnostic codes.after the 3rd time it was in the dealer for the same issue they said a code was stored.they said it had something to do with the camera mounted on the top of the windshield.the service tech disconnected and reconnected the camera with the thought that it might be a loose connection.the same issue happened again after they adjusted the camera.they have a new camera on order but it is not in stock anywhere in the country.this is a serious safety concern.i contacted kia motors consumer affairs several times, and they just send me back to the dealer.problem is still unsolved.
There were a handful occasions where the epb light would come on, and the emergency brake would lock up, which resulted in me not being able to move. The first time, i gave up trying to get it to move. Later, my husband tried, and it was back to normal. We researched it, and the next few times it happened, we thought we were just doing something wrong. We would try a few different "tricks" (like making sure you had your seat belt on), and, eventually, it would work! not today!! i went to someone's house to pick up something i had ordered from them. When i got there, i engaged the parking brake and turned the vehicle off, like normal. I heard this sound that sounded like a saw. I thought it was my car, but after i got out of the car, and i still heard the sound, i figured it was actually a neighbor working with a saw. When i went to leave, and my car's epb light was on, and i was firmly locked in place, i realized that it was not a saw i heard. The sound, was in fact, coming from my vehicle's brake system. We tried anything and everything! we researched what other people have done when this happened to them. We tried everything! the whole ordeal had us stuck for over 3 hours while we waited for the tow truck. Currently, it's sitting at the kia dealership waiting for a tech to look at. So, i don't know what the final conclusion is. And, of course, the warranty ends at 60,000 miles, and mine has about 63,000 miles!!! i feel like this has happened the majority of the time on a driveway with a slight incline. I'm not sure if this is just a coincidence or not. Especially since it happened at least once in a level grocery store parking lot.
Problem:while driving the vehicle in very slow stop and go traffic the electronic parking brake engaged.i was unable to disengage the electronic parking brake by pressing the button.to get the car to move forward i had to shut the car off and back on.concerned that the electronic parking brake could engage on its on at any time and cause an accident.don't know if this is also related to the issue with the smart cruise control.the smart cruise control was on, but the dashboard did no light up and the cruise control did not turn off as in my previous complaint.think there is a chance this is a separate issue.
On may 9, 2018 i was driving my vehicle when for no reason at all the aeb system alarm sounded and locked up all 4 wheels. The roads were wet and it was raining lightly. I was traveling aprox 40mph and was not braking at the time. When this happened i could not get them to release. I tried accelerating which only revved the engine. I also tried tapping the brakes which did nothing. This resulted in someone rear ending me. When the vehicle rear ended me that is when the brakes released.i had the vehicle towed to the dealership where i purchased it from. Since then the dealership has inspected it per kia's instruction and kia sent an engineer out on june 7th to retrieve the date from the edr. I was told by an individual at the body shop for the dealership that the edr showed no information and that the techs have found nothing wrong with my vehicle. I had been in communication with a man named alex vilalpando from kia usa prior to them sending someone out and have left him several messages trying to find out what is wrong with my vehicle. I am also aware of 2 technical service bulletins regarding the aeb system but was told by the auto body worker that they said they did not apply to what happened. I am skeptical to take this vehicle back for fear that it will happen again. There is no possible way that the vehicles computer system or edr showed nothing when its obvious something happened. I also requested a copy of the edr findings and have yet to receive anything.i am getting no help or answers from kia and dont know what else to do. I have paid out of pocket for a rental car and again am getting no help from kia. This is a serious problem and no one is giving me any answers. I tried contacting kia again today and each time i got someone on the phone and they started reading the notes i was hung up on this happened 3 times.
Problem: intermittent problem with advanced smart cruise control and autonomous braking on a new 2017 kia sorento with less than 500 miles.what happened: when using the advanced smart control feature, as explained to me by the dealer, the manual, and kia videos, the car will stop autonomously when approaching a car at a stop light. My kia stops autonomously most of the time, but not all of the time.on three occasions, while driving with smart cruise control, on a straight road on a clear day, my kia slowed down but did not stop, causing me to take emergency evasive action at the last second. After two occurrences, i contacted the dealer and asked to simply have the system checked. The dealer stated that they do not handle safety concerns, and directed me to call kia, which i did more than a month ago. The kia rep tried to tell me that the vehicle cannot stop while using advanced smart cruise control, despite their tv ads, instructional videos, and my own experiences which says the car does indeed stop in the smart cruise control mode.the kia rep said someone from kia would follow-up, but that never happened. So, after waiting more than a month, i am filing this report to see if others are experiencing problems with this critical safety technology. Otherwise, the kia operates normally and is a very nice suv.i just want my sorento checked out before an accident occurs.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. While driving approximately 65 mph, all the warning indicators on the instrument panel illuminated. The contact pulled over to the shoulder, and turned off and restarted the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic brake hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred several other times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer five other times but there was no remedy to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 418.
I lost power steering three times.the power steering light went on each time.on two of the occasions the vehicle was towed to the local dealer.it was towed to modesto kia and paso robles kia, both in california.in modesto , 1/18, i was told it was a dirty battery cable that the car had reset itself and there were no more problems with the power steering.nine days later on 1/27,it went out again in cambria, ca.this time i was driving but was able to move to a safe place.the kia dealership in paso robles said when the car arrived the light was off and there were no issues with the power steering.i was told they would put miles on the car in an effort to recreate the problem.that afternoon as it was set to be driven by the technician the light went on and power steering was lost.i was told the technician saw a problem in the fuse box, he fixed it and the car was able to be driven. I was told there was nothing else they could do.the service manager was rude and unsympathetic.my concerns were not validated or acknowledged, needless to say, i very upset because i was afraid to drive the car.especially, given the fact that what they said they did to fix the problem did not make any sense to me.i know there is a problem with the vehicle and further investigation by both dealers may have discovered it but they went with the first thing they found.there are other complaints for the same reason. I truly felt unsafe.driving the vehicle and because of that, i felt i had no other choice but to purchase another vehicle.the sorento is unsafe and someone is going to get hurt.i pray you will investigate this issue and with this car specifically.i also have a kia customer care case no;13527008
Shortly after buying the kia it developed a problem where the steering wheel would stick when attempting to turn left or right. It takes a little extra effort to move the wheel past these sticking points mostly at 12 o'clock position and it gradually becomes more difficult the faster the car travels. At highway speeds this is quite troublesome and dangerous as the problem is amplified. While traveling in traffic at higher speeds, windy conditions, searching your mirror to change lanes, etc., if the car wanders sometimes it causes me to over correct which in turn causes another over correction to return to the lane . I have had these problems on the highway and cannot find a way to adjust. This seems to be an intermittent problem but if it happens it stays for the duration of the drive, it may or may not be there next time. A recent incident has caused me to notify kia and nhtsa. There was no accident no one was hurt but over correcting caused an incident that shook up my wife and i as i could have easily lost control on that highway, in traffic at that speed at night. We ended up taking back roads. I have been to the dealer where i bought the car but they found nothing. A technician told me today that i probably need to get used to the electric power steering. After a year now? he apparently knew something and has answered similar questions as i believe that not all kia's have electric power steering. It amy also be weather related since it seemed to return as the weather has gotten colder. I have searched on line and have found others with similar problems with hyundai as well. I'm leaving the car with a kia dealer 12/26.
The truck steering sticks at highway speeds.it resists moving then lets go all at once.this causes over correction forcing the truck to wander side to side in the lane.i've had it back to the dealer twice with no solution.it's an irritation at best and unsafe at worst.
At speeds starting at 30 mph the steering wheel becomes unresponsive and there is some resistance in trying to turn it. With enough pressure you can overcome the resistance but in doing so you tend to over steer the vehicle and have to correct for that. The faster the vehicle is traveling the more pronounced this problem is. It is as though the steering wheel has lost its fluidity as if caused by very low tire pressure or a cross wind even though neither of those conditions are present. Thisis a serious safety issue for 2 reasons. First, it is difficult to keep the vehicle in its lane. Second, it is very fatiguing to drive the vehicle with this defect. In mid december of 2018 i drove the vehicle from oconomowoc, wi to des moines, ia and the problem was persistent the entire drive and then again a couple of days later on the return trip. As a result this defect driving requires extra concentration and is fatiguing to say the least. I noticed the problem as early as september of 2018. But the longer drive in december of 2018 cited above confirmed the magnitude of the problem and the potential dangers associated with it. The problems remains ongoing and is unaffected by weather conditions, though wind seems to exacerbate intensity somewhat.
Driving down interstate going around an onramp and the steering wheel locks up , traction control light comes on and another light comes on and feels like there is no power steering.i pull over to the side of the road.i turn off the vehicle for a few minutes and turn back on while calling the dealership and it resets the lights and codes.i have had this happen since i have bought this in 2017.the last 2 times have been 1 month apart.this will happen while driving and it is a safety issue while driving straight and while turning.
While driving the car on any road (city or highway) it wants to drift to the side and when you go to correct the steering it feels sticky, for lack of better words, and there is a delay in the response. So i end up over correcting, and i'm all over the road. This car is so unsafe as it is right now. I've taken my car into the dealership twice, called consumer advisors for kia, has a tech go for a test drive, and spoke to the service manager. While they can verify there's an issue, they can't do anything to fix it.
Steering has been sticking while driving. I've had to forcefully correct the steering while on the highway and car feels very unstable and unsafe. I took the car to several dealers whom have acknowledged the existence of issues and have said to me there maybe be some software updates coming to address the problem. I've also put in a complaint to kia consumer affairs over the issue and i have failed to get any feedback. This is a serious safety issue, i really remain apprehensive about driving the vehicle at this point.
This is an ongoing condition of the vehicle that my mechanics were unable to address.the steering wheel sticks in the straight ahead position and requires unexpected force to make small corrections to the car's direction.this mostly happens at highway speeds or at lower speeds on long straightaways.the mechanics informed me this was not an uncommon condition and suggested that i report it to kia and to the nhtsa.
Steering is sticky, forcing driver to rotate steering wheel in an exaggerated way to correct the issue. Door handle cover on passenger rear side broke within 6 months of owning the car.
Around 32,000 miles the car began to develop a sticky, notched feeling in the steering particularly while on the highway.it seems to happen most often after the car has remained going straight for a period of time, with no need for steering adjustment.then suddenly adjustment becomes jerky.sometimes the wheel feels sticky at the onset of moving it, requiring more force, which leads to too much lane shift, other times it moves freely just a little, but the car doesn't move until the wheel again becomes sticky and moving it results in overcompensation.it's difficult to describe, it feels almost like you are driving in a rut and can't at first get out of it with just the normal amount of steering usually required to move the vehicle and so have to turn the wheel harder, except you are not in a rut.the overcompensation is particular worrisome on snowy and icy highways where a sudden shift can lead to a slide. It's possible the problem is happening around town as well, but because the roads are curvy and i'm making turns, i'm already making large steering wheel adjustments so it's less noticeable.
Purchased with about 17,000 miles. On way home from dealer (70 mph flat, mostly straight highway) i noticed that the steering wheel seemed to get stuck when it hadn't been adjusted for several seconds, almost as if the power steering would turn off. After using quite a bit of force to turn the wheel, the power steering seemed like it would wake up again, causing me to over-correct. After i became familiar with the issue on the highway, i noticed it would also happen at slower speeds. The dealer said they are familiar with the issue and are doing a series of software updates that they said will correct this issue. They are not replacing any equipment.
2017 sorento lx fwd auto - steering sticks while driving on the highway, when you apply more pressure to the steering wheel it then releases causing driver to over correct. The issue is then repeated over and over making it difficult to drive straight.
Lx model awd. Purchased at 21k miles, currently has 33k miles. Steering can be described as "sticky" with micro steering wheel adjustments needed to keep the car tracking straight. As the wheel is turned left or right there is a delay and small lag or bumping felt until the actual steering adjustment is transferred to the cars wheels. This occurs and is more pronounced at higher speeds. It is noticeable and concerning when trying to hold the car straight on a long stretch of highway. My concern from a safety point, is that the steering mechanisms will fail or freeze up. Besides the fact that driving the car is annoying to operate like this and causes fatigue, there is definitely something not right as i have read from many forums online. I love everything about else about the kia sorento, but this steering issue very concerning. Have already rules out tires, alignment etc. The feeling in the steering wheel is pronounced and not something i have ever felt in any car i have ever driven in 45 years.
A few months after purchasing the 2017 kia sorento we began noticing steering issues.it doesn't happen all the time but appears to happen after the car warms up.you must constantly adjust the steering to drive straight.the car will drift to the left and when you try to correct, the car fights you.all of the sudden, the steering releases and then the car drifts right and the steering fights you trying to adjust left.it makes it very difficult to keep the vehicle driving straight even on straight, flat roads.i stated below that it happened on march 6, 2017.that was the first date the car was taken to the dealer for service but the issue has been ongoing since before that date.
At speeds ranging from 25mph to 70mph i must continually adjust the steering wheel to drive straight. The car will drift to either the left or right and feels "sticky" to try to bring back to straight. Steering becomes unstuck and there is an over-correction and must be repeated in the opposite direction. It feels like weaving going down the road.snow or icy conditions exaggerate the over-correction.there is 14,000 miles on vehicle but has been present since having 5000 miles. Leased vehicle new july 2017. Spoke to dealership service department.no recalls or bulletins for this type of problem.very concerned steering will lock up in a curve.
While driving, the steering wheel situated at 12:00 o'clock sticks in that position enough that it requires the driver to move the wheel back to the 12:00 o'clock position. Any slight correction makes the vehicle swerve. This action occurs when correcting to the left or right. This gives the appearance that the driver is impaired. It doesn't matter whether driving on a highway or two lane city street. It would appear that the power steering is to blame. I had the vehicle in for regular service but noted the issue. The car was returned to me but was told nothing could be found. I doubt seriously they evendrove the car. It doesn't happen when the vehicle is in a stationary position. Scheduling another check up this week. Please note below that i just stated a date of occurrence. The problem has been ongoing since purchase january 2017
I bought this car a few weeks ago, and when i test drove it, i did not feel what i feel almost on a daily basis now. It happens more so when going 40 mph or more and can feel it on the straightaways. The steering wheel feels like it gets locked or stuck and it takes more force to straighten the car out. I can never get the car to go perfectly straight as it veers to one side of the line and when i try to correct it, the stickiness allows for it to over correct which causes me to veer to the other side. I am constantly trying to keep my car going straight and it's a struggle and frustrating and i feel like i can never have just 1 hand on the wheel. We bought this car for the 3 row seating and liking to travel with family and a new baby on the way. I feel like this is very unsafe and needs to be looked at but when taken to the dealer all we get back is "cannot replicate customer complaint." some days are better than others, like it engages and disengages. I have had my husband, mom, dad, and mechanic from carmax all feel the same thing as i do, so i know it is not just in my head (as i thought before when i got it back from kia).
Steering drifts and very difficult to correcthappens in city driving and highway.constantly have to correct steering
While the vehicle is in motion a red warning light appears in the shape of a steering wheel and the steering becomes very stiff. This happens intermittently after putting it to gear and driving forward or backing out and it has also happened while highway driving. Luckily these incidents have happened while driving straight and occurs for a short duration. It is concerning from a safety standpoint. I brought it in to a kia dealership and it has something to do with the electronics in the steering column. They have no recall listed and it is very expensive to replace outside the 50k basic mileage warranty which ours is since we tend to put a lot of highway miles on our vehicle. It isn't too much over though and we take very good care of it. I would find it very hard to believe it that is caused from wear and tear but more likely to be a manufacturer defect.
Engine burns up oil very quickly way before 3,000 miles and there are no alerts that the oil is low. Steering gets "stuck" at times for brief amounts of time and needs to be readjusted in the road. This happens on straight highways and in curve. Windshield wiper fluid function does not work.
Steering becomes notchy when going straight.at highway speeds and around town.problem is occasional, maybe once a week, but is very distressing when it happens.the car starts to wander to one side or the other and when i try to smoothly correct, the steering wheel feels 'stuck'.with a little effort, it releases and over corrects.now i'm heading off the other side of the road. Effort - over correct - effort - overcorrect and so on.not sure if this is related, but when turning corners in town, the front end seems to jump several times when gassing out of the turn - most notable when going uphill and on right turns.sometimes can feel the jump ( or maybe a slip ) when accelerating straight from a stop.feels like something binding in the front - like if you drive a 4wd truck on dry pavement with the front axle engaged.car only has 41,000 mi on it and has been doing both for over a year.have appt tomorrow at kia dealer, but not too confident they will be able to replicate the notchy steering, but should be able to feel the front end jump.
Steering is sticking at highway speeds.sticking is slight but requires constant overcorrection to get it to unstick.usually occurs on long, straight stretches of driving.issue is intermittent and dealer cannot replicate, of course.
Driving down the highway the steering will lock up and then you have to pull it back and then it wants to go the other way. Have to fight it bad when it's warn or hot outside. Have reported it to my dealer shop and nothing has been done because there no recall. Could case accident then who is at fault. Kia!!!
Intermittent steering problem experienced during both highway and city driving.while driving straight, the car's steering will stick in the 12 o'clock position requiring the driver to force the steering wheel right or left causing constant over steer adjustments. This lack of vehicle control is cause for concern, especially at highway speeds or slippery conditions.
Steering is sticky and has play during highway speeds.driver must constantly adjust to keep vehicle aligned.power steering after sticking point over corrects vehicle.this is very dangerous.
While driving highway speeds the steering locks and you can't make minor adjustments to stay in your lane of travel without having to apply heavy pressure to break it free. This causes you to over correct. Brought it in to kia in january after a completely miserable 4 hour trip to new orleans and they said it was fixed. Drove an hour home and everything was good. Few days later it began again and is getting worse.
Complained about steering wheel sticking for the last year. Driving on the freeway at 70 mph yesterdaymoved into the left lane to pass another vehicle. I'm now in the left lane about to pass the other vehicle and i needed to make a lane correction to the right however the steering wheel was stuck and i had to pull hard on the steering wheel and the steering wheel broke loose and my vehicle veered to the right and came within inches of striking the vehicle i was passing. Safety issue
This problem is intermittent.it usually happens on straightaways.i notice it usually on roads not in the city.it is as if the steering locks up and you have to force it with both hands to get it to unlock.the pattern cannot be repeated.i took this problem to the dealership once and the mechanic said he "tweaked" it.however, it started happening again.the dealership said that they haven't had any complaints.this has happend on multiple dates and i don't have them listed but had to put a date to log this problem.
Steering wheel is hard to turn left / right, it feels like its stuck and will not release free ,then you have to pull it back . Its scares me on the highway. I took it to the dealer and they didn't find anything wrong. This feeling goes on and off
When the vehicle is driving straight the steering will feel like it hesitates slight movements and then releases causing me to over steer. Almost like the electronic steering is intermittent. To the point where i will end up in the other lane slightly and continually have to counter steer the vehicle.
Steering wheel feels very loose. It gives you the sensation that the car is meandering but it is not. You have to constantly correct the steering wheel and it is not always responsive. Also, it feels like it is sticking which causes an over correction and you suddenly head into the lane next to you. This happens especially at speeds over 50mph. Very uncomfortable driving. Feels very unsafe.wife refuses to drive the car. I'm concerned the condition could get even worse and cause an accident. I see no recall for this problem but there should be one. It is a significant safety concern. Please look into it and have kia do the right thing.
Purchased new in 2018, the 2017 sorento awd vehicles steering from the showroom floor was fine. After roughly 1000 miles, the steering hangs as i'm driving into a 12:00 position. As speeds increase on highway, the level of effort to pull the steering wheel past this locking position increases somewhat. Also at highways speeds the car wanders all over the road regardless of the type of road surface. Understandably grooved concrete pavement can can this to some degree but the sorento does it even on flat smooth, brand new blacktop roads.this is extremely dangerous as you have to pull the steering wheel strongly in the direction of the road and then it unlocks so to speak and over steers the car in the intended direction.i've tried everything to try to correct the issue. 1). Turned off steering wheel centering function in the vehicle software.2). Under inflated the tires approx 5 lbs.3). Over inflated the tires by 2-3 pounds.4). Changed steering wheel tilt angle.i am very afraid of this vehicle now. Particularly when my grandkids are in it. We bought this 3rd row seated car for them. When my wife is driving the car alone i'm particularly concerned she may have a serious accident! this automobile was not an inexpensive model. I can't afford to take a huge loss selling the car because this information is widely distributed across the internet and no one is likely to buy it anyway. Please, help us on this issue. I love the car in general but i've owned old junkers that steered better and this start at only 1000 miles. It's bad enough that there will be serious accidents because of these issues.thank you for allowing us to post our converens here
As i am driving over 40 mph, the vehicle will lose all power and caution lights illuminate on the dash, radio turns off, power steering goes out, car decreases speed.
Between 25pm and 75mph the steering in my 2017 kia sorento becomes sticky and notch like. There is no smoothness in the turn of the wheel. At high speeds (45mph and higher) the problem becomes extremely noticeable. The car feels very unsafe while traveling at highway speeds. The constant correction in my direction of travel make for a very uneasy and uncomfortable drive on the highway. The need to correctdirection leads to a very unsafe over-correction. The problem wasn't noticeable upon original purchase of the vehicle. Currently have 30k miles. Problem became extremely noticeable around the 20-22k mark. Extremely dangerous and needs to be addressed asap.
I purchased i used 2017 kia sorento fwd in september of 2019. The vehicle is great except the more i drove it, the more i noticed the steering was very sensitive. It has a stick just at the top as well. I feel that this can cause a safety issue especially when taking curves as the need to constantly adjust feels necessary or could cause on over correction while driving. The more research i did, i have found many people to have this same issue with no recall. It is an electronic problem in the steering column. I feel that kia needs to address this issue. The problem with just having the steering column replaced is that it's going to be the same part. The need to design a new one for safety reasons.
The steering on my sorento ex feels 'sticky' and unsafe. Whenever driving, whether in the city, on the highway, or in a neighborhood, it feels as though the steering wheel is constantly getting stuck for half of a second and needs consistent readjustment. The problem is especially evident when driving around a turn, but it is very noticeable even while driving on a straight road or highway.
The passenger side back door handle just fell off.
Steering is sticky, forcing driver to rotate steering wheel in an exaggerated way to correct the issue. Door handle cover on passenger rear side broke within 6 months of owning the car.
I own a 2017 kia sorento and experienced an exploding sunroof while driving no more than 20 mph on 1/4/19.i was turning right from a side road onto a larger main road and just starting to accelerate when i heard a loud bang.i though my car backfired.as i looked towards the back of the car, i saw pieces of glass on the back seat and realized that my panoramic sunroof had exploded upwardsthere are large pieces of glass angled upward, with stress fractures all along the edges.
I was stopped at a red light on a city street and struck head on by another vehicle. The damage is shown below in the uploaded image. My airbags did not deploy.
My panoramic sunroof exploded while i was driving on the interstate for no apparent reason. No impact; i saw nothing, witnesses behind me say nothing hit me, i wasn't under an overpass, i wasn't following anyone closely. Driving straight at about 75mph.
Can not open the liftgate either from the liftgate button or the emergency release lever in the liftgate. Emergency escape from rear is not possible. Broken at present. Problem started july 2021. Problem verbally confirmed with independent service manager. No prior indicator of issue.
Automatic rear liftgate closed on my hand and did not release. Sensors did not activate.car was parked on a deserted residential street, engine was not running.i could not reach hatch to open the door. Fortunately, i had someone with me.i had to seek medical services and physical therapy.hand injury will result in lifelong discomfort.kia was notified as was my auto insurance company. I was advised to get a safety check at the dealership, but because of the pandemic i am isolating and avoiding exposures.
White smoke in exhaust and loud grind when cold start. Paint is peeling in the back
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento.
I was driving down the highway, sunny day today. I had my 6 month old baby in his car seat, when i heard a huge explosion. At first i didn't know what happened. I looked up and the sunroof had exploded. It sounded like when glass is put into a fire then explodes. My son was covered in tiny pieces of glass. I looked online and discovered this has happen to around 150 other drivers since 2012, but kia has issued no recall or warned its drivers. The explosion alone was enough to cause an accident, and my son could have been seriously injured. I hope kia will take responsibility so nothing like this happens to anyone else.
Our sunroof exploded while driving south on us i-5 just north of everett, wa. The glass blew upward out of the car & glass shards flew on us and our dog. We closed the fabric roof cover so the glass wouldn't fall on us. Kia tacoma said it was not covered by warrentee. They replaced the sunroof so we could continue our trip to arizona. The cost was $944 us. We contacted kia canada who have opened a claim but we don't know if we will be reimbursed. This problem has existed for several years. I hope people will report it to you so that you can insist on a better quality for safe sunroofs.
My car stalled in the middle of the road. Everything happened so fast, one second the car broke down, next second cars behind me are slamming the brakes and screaming at me. Going to take my car in for maintenance less then one month of purchasing it.
I was driving down the freeway, which was well paved, no construction in the area and no semi-trucks nearby. I was in the middle lane traveling at 70 mph, when i heard a loud explosion which sounded like a gun shot. The sound was so loud, i thought i was rear ended by another vehicle traveling at a high speed. Frightened, i glanced at my rearview mirror and seen my rear window was intact. This is when i seen pieces of glass flying back towards the car behind me. I finally realized that it was my sunroof that had exploded. I slowed down and moved over to the slow lane. The driver that was behind me, pulled alongside me in disbelief as to what had just occurred. After realizing i was ok, he continued on his way. I pulled off an exit and parked on a street and photographed the shattered sunroof. It was in that moment i was thankful my wife and kids were not in the car with me or that i was utilizing the sunroof. If this was the case, the glass could have caused several injuries or led to a multiple vehicle crash on the freeway due to the glass falling down on top of me. After taking several photographs, i called my insurance company who stated i could file a claim or see if the dealership would take care of the issue. I drove to the dealership i purchased the vehicle at, and explained the traumatic event that had just occurred. The kia dealership just informed me there was nothing they could do and compared it to me driving off the lot and running over a nail with my tire. This response was very frustrating and i explained to them this was an issue that is commonly reported online. Again, i was told there was nothing they could do and for me to file a claim with my insurance. This was a scary situation to experience and i would like to see a recall of this vehicle to fix the issue or inform consumers before it happens so it does not cause any future injuries or deaths.
In july 2019 as i was driving, the engine splash shield became loose on the drivers side of my vehicle and started dragging along the road. When i took my car to the dealer i was told that it wasn't covered under the warranty and that i must have driven over something to make it loose.i had not driven over anything. I ended up purchasing bolts to replace the looseportion of the splash shield.then, in january 2020, as the car was driven again, the splash shield came completely off the vehicle.again, there wasn't any object run over, it just came off. In july 2020, we had the splash shield replaced, as the serpentine drive belt had snapped and gotten caught in the engine. In may 2021, the bolts in the splash shield again came out, and the shield was dragging on the ground.again, didn't hit any objects or run over anything.replaced the missing bolts.our safety was compromised when the shield came off completely and flew into traffic as we were driving.this was also a risk for other people.then, due to the shield not being in place, and something caused the drive belt to snap and wrap up into the engine was a major safety concern, as i could have lost control of the car.the vehicle was inspected by the dealership, and also by another mechanic.there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms other than what i described above.
The door would not close. The lock was triggered somehow only the back passenger door. I could not unlock or close the door. It has happened at least 3 times. My son was sitting in the back seat and the door would not close after he got in.
Vehicle was stationary parked in driveway. Rear lift gate was activated by owner with key fob. Grandchild ran under the lift gate. Ownerpulled child from rear lift. Gatebrushed child's back and continued to close . Owner then placed several inaminateobjects under rear of car protruding from cargo hold and engaged the lift gate. Gate closed each time unrestricted trapping the object. Called kia reported problem.
When set in auto, the headlights will flicker, or turn on and off without reasonable changes in light or conditions that would cause this to occur. This happens at night or dusk, making it difficult to see the road, obstacles and other hazards, as well as making the vehicle difficult to see for other traffic. Adjusting the lighting manually on the stick switch to an on position appears to restore functionality. This puts the driver and passenger at risk as well as other vehicles. I have not been able to have this reproduced by a dealer or service center. No inspection of the stick switch or electrical components has occurred however the lights have been confirmed to work otherwise by a service center. No warning lights or other indicators occur.
White smoke in exhaust and loud grind when cold start. Paint is peeling in the back
Difficulty accelerating in congested stop-and-go traffic and/or when pulling out from a stop sign or traffic light.it's as if the car does not get any gas, and then it lunges forward. We were on a four-week cross-country trip and felt very unsafe. Four dealerships have not been able to duplicate the problem or diagnose or repair it.
The paint off of my kia sorento is starting to peel off.i have seen videos where this flies off while driving in large and smaller pieces that can obstruct the drivers view or distract them while driving. If it were raining, it could damage the windshield while the wiper blades are running and the paint chips fly up on them.the vehicle is now more susceptible to rust causing the vehicle to be unsafe.
July 20, 2019: car fire:driving back from new jersey shore (65 mph), 11:00 am, 96 degrees, sorento engine made a noise, and i could smell smoke and saw warning lights came on.i grabbed my daughters and exited the vehicle watching the entire suv, and all the contents from our trip go up in flames in less than 12 minutes. Very traumatic for the girls and me.
Vehicles randomly does not want accelerate. Seem most often on turns in to on coming traffic but not always. Some time's it it will do it just going forward. I have almost be creamed twice because of this. Took it to dealer. The said they could not find anything wrong. This has also happen to fiancee. This dangerous and unacceptable.and so where do i go from here?
On multiple occasions, my headlights will change randomly. I keep my headlights on auto always. Last night (07/15) at 1130pm being the most recent incident, i was driving on a completely black road (no street lights for several miles) and my lights just shut off on me. Yesterday (07/15) this happened at least 6 times throughout the day, day and night. This has happened at least 20 times since may 2021. I took my vehicle to the dealership but i was told they were unable to find the issue.

The collision warning and autonomous emergency braking systems on this vehicle are totally inoperative and have been since vehicle delivery.vehicle now has about 1800 miles on it.it has been to two dealers for repair and both say their tests do not indicate any failure
Sunroof spontaneously imploded while driving at slow speed on neighborhood street.a brief internet search has indicated that this is not an isolated incident on sorentos and has happened to numerous others.this vehicle is only 2 months old.
My panoramic sunroof exploded while i was driving on the interstate for no apparent reason. No impact; i saw nothing, witnesses behind me say nothing hit me, i wasn't under an overpass, i wasn't following anyone closely. Driving straight at about 75mph.
Assist emergency braking/forward collision system does not work to identify, warn of potential impact, and does not apply emergency braking for another vehicle or pedestrian at any speed as described in 2017 kia sorento manual. The vehicle does not display any warning that the system is not in operation.
The ac leaks onto the floor after an hour of highway driving. I would not notice if i did not have rubber floormats.
Michelin premier tires have been shredding on each tire, at every tread.tires also make humming noise and you can feel a roughness in the ride.tires have been doing this since car purchase.dealer contacted michelin but they said no recall and only offered prorated discount on new tire purchase.
Side lane warning system detects a vehicle when there is no vehicle there.apple carplay system causes an extreme echo on remote phone, therefore hands free car phone is not possible.it is dangerous to have to disconnect the phone from the usb cord and call people manually.
While driving(60mph) on i10 west bound in new orleans, la at around 7:45pm on april 18th, 2018 the sunroof of my 2017 kia sorento exploded. It was a clear evening and only a few cars around me on the highway. Took car to dealershipand was told by the services parts associate "it was rock" as if he was trained to automatically say that without even looking at the vehicle.
Driving at about 75 miles per hour and suddenly the hood pop openfortunately i was able to stop on time and prevent something majorhave to note that there was no too much traffic.
I was driving to my house from my cabin after two hours of driving i was at a stoplight and the oil light came on so i decided to keep going and take the next exit to see if i needed oil..but i never made it. My son thankfully rolled his window and was like mom the car is on fire, i then tried to put the breaks on but they didn't work so we slowly coasted down to about 10-20 and i was like get out. So he jumped out the moving,on fire car. He suffered from road rash. Long story short by the flames were so big on the drives side that my senses finally came together and slammed the car in park to stop it and i crawled out the passenger side door. By the time the firemen came to put out the fire the car was basically to the frame.
We were driving on the highway from nc to va and the sunroof exploded. We pulled over because we were unsure what cause such a loud noise only to see the sunroof shattered. It was clear nothing had caused it and it just exploded on its own. We immediately took pictures, contacted kia and filed our claim with them. They've finally come back saying that since they can't ascertain the cause of the damage to the sunroof they're can't take responsibility.
I'm reporting on a sunroof that exploded without any apparent reason. On december 29, 2017, my wife and i were returning home from a trip in our 2017 kia sorento. (mileage at time of incident was about 16,080) it was purchased new in december 2016. The time was around 10 am, it was raining and about 37. The highway was bare and wet and in good condition ' no potholes or anything of that nature. We were traveling north on highway 95 just north of lewiston, id. The posted speed is 65 mph and that was the speed i was traveling. There were no cars within at least a half mile in front of us. There were no cars in the opposite lanes. The uphill lane we were traveling in is across from the hillside which is across the highway to the west. The highway is four lanes with a median and jersey barrier. To the east of the lane we were traveling in, the terrain is hilly but not steep and does not hang above the road. (this is to establish that there were no areas where a rock could randomly fall off a hillside, bounce up and fall onto the sunroof panel.)at about 10:05, there was a tremendous noise and instantly there was an initial rush of air out of the car after which some bits of glass shards came down on us. I could hear large chunks of glass moving along the roof top to the rear of the vehicle and the noise of a suddenly open top. The liner was open so there was no protection from the glass or the elements. I pulled over as soon as i safely could to inspect the damage. I closed the liner to keep the rain out, got out of the car and stood on the door jamb to get a closer look. The glass was pooched up around the hole which was about 2 feet in diameter in the center of the pane. (the pane that shattered was the one that retracts and is right above the driver and passenger seats.) we looked around for glass and there were just tiny bits in the front area.

As i was making a right hand turn on to a busy highway, my gas peddle stopped working and i was stuck in the middle of the road with on coming traffic. My car was taken to kia and had a wire replaced that connected to the computer. A few days later as i was on the interstate my car was trying to drive itself. My car was trying to excel faster than i wanted it to go. I was behind a tracker trailer and i was scared i was going to hit it. My car is now at kia service. They were going to replace thefull throttle body but then received notice to put a halt on that because of another issue.i do not feel safe putting my children back in this vehicle.
The vehicle did not function when the accelerator pedal was depressed at 60 mph. The engine rpm's droppped from 4,000 to 1,000 and the accelerator and transmission was not responding. The vehicle took multiple attempts to be operated normally. The dealer could not replicate the condition upon a test drive by their tecnician. This failure recurred on several occasions. Note: according to the nhtsa, this is the exact same thing that has happened and been reported by owners of kia optimas. The dealer ordered a hose assembly air intake part to be installed upon arrival under sa303 procedure but denies it has anything to do with the acceleration problem.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated while his wife was approaching at slow speeding into a carport when she depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into the back wall of the carport. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated not one sustained any injuries or seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was still at the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,322.
Cruse control set at 70 and while descending will drop to 3500rpm and then suddently drop 5000rpm.took to the dealer and they could not find a cause or problem
Engine burns up oil very quickly way before 3,000 miles and there are no alerts that the oil is low. Steering gets "stuck" at times for brief amounts of time and needs to be readjusted in the road. This happens on straight highways and in curve. Windshield wiper fluid function does not work.
While driving home i heard an extremely loud pop. I was almost home so i didn't pull over to investigate. As i arrive at my house i received a text message. I parked my sorento and checked my phone. As i sat there which was about 2-3 minutes i heard another extremely loud pop and that is when the glass of my sunroof started shattering. I immediately got out of my car and looked up and noticed my sunroof looked as if it exploded upwards. Luckily i had the sun shade closed or glass would have fallen in the car and on me.i googled sunroofs exploding and found several claims, a class action law suit (in progress) and a tv news investigation regarding kia sunroof exploding while driving. My car is at the dealership currently and i haven't heard anything yet regarding the cause but from the conversation i had with the service advisor it doesn't seen to be an issue to kia although there has been hundreds of reports filed. I believe it is a manufacturing defect. I have pictures and video of what appears to be the initial crack (the first loud pop) and the hole it caused (the second loud pop). There is no way an object caused the explosion and if so how can we explain the second pop while i was parked. It is ironic that others have reported the same incident occurring and the photos are very similar in all cases. Something has to be done before a child or adult is seriously injured.i guess the right person/people have yet to be affected by this. It is a serious safety concern. My video would not load but i'm happy to send it as an attachment via email.
The contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. While driving approximately 60 mph, an explosion was heard. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and the contact noticed that the sun roof exploded. The glass cover was shattered, but did not completely collapse. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to bert ogden mission mazda (956-271-6076, located at 2309 e expressway 83, mission, tx 78572) where it was diagnosed that a rock may have struck the sun roof. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
