Attempt to fix airbag system module and seatbelt assy failed three times by authorized kia dealerships (03/08/08, 09/22/08, 10/01/08). Vehicle was sold to me by authorized kia dealer as a precertified used car with manufacturer warranty with 12000 miles on 09/05/08. Kia manufacturer notified of failed attempts on 10/02/08 & have been asked to purchase or replace the vehicle under ca civil code(s) 1792, 1794.

Takata recall.air bag light on dash stays on at all times and "passenger air bag on/off" indicator indicates off, even when an adult is sitting in the passenger seat.additionally, horn won't blow at times.

2007 kia sorento passenger seat air bag alarm - due to seat sensor problems or other problems. Problem has recurred hundreds of times since purchased new. Advised by service manager of greer, sc kia that fault was due to passenger not sitting properly in seat with feet positioned properly but advised by a kia technician, confidentially, that this is not true. Passenger seat sensor was adjusted after several visits but fault recurs time after time which means the passenger air bag will not deploy in the event of a crash. Kia does not appear to take matter seriously. This could result in deaths.other dealer representatives refers the problem back to service manager only. Number of complaints: at least six or more - to little avail. Problem still exists from time to time. Usually the passenger can bounce up and down several times and finally get the alarm to extinguish showing normal air bag operation for the passenger side.wrote letter to regional kia dealership to no avail. Called kia help line to no avail.only told to refer problem to kia dealership service manager.incident date since time of purchase in june or july, 2007. Guessing purchase date since it has been a few years.still own vehicle.

Front passenger airbag light is always on , i purchased this car last 2016 and when i checked for recalls said nothing pending but this issue its been always since i bought it ,sometimes light goes blinking, vehicle is in use ,called kia and they said this car was already checked for that recall .recall # sc076a

I may love my kia sorento but when it comes to safety devices and faulty air bags kia could care less about ones safety. I have been parts and service director for chrysler, ford and mitsubishi ad when these companies have faulty air bag components causing life and death scenarios they do not look at warranty dates and mileage. I have the sorento that just falls out of a recall qualification by a couple months and they are refusing the repair the air bag fault saying maybe they will cover half. Well kia forces the repair to be a complete seat as they do not have repair parts for the air bag sensor. When i was at chrysler customers would call the chrysler hotline and chrysler would do a deductible copay on transmission for anywhere between 200-500 for cars out of warranty by over 20k and more than a year. When it came to safety chrysler very rarely ever charged a deductible or copay no matter what time or mileage. . . . . . .... .. Guess as much as i love my kia sorento kia does not care about ones life and safety where chrysler puts the safety as number one. Not sure i will be recommending any kia's anymore as they do not care about the life of the driver or passenger. So when the air bag does not work properly and causes a death kia will be seen in court paying out a lot of money for the death they caused. Also just for information the representative i have been speaking with is as polite as a snake and just plain arrogant saying it is my fault for the failure when there is a recall for the exact problem but my car production date is off by a month or two. This will be taken legal s the air bag is a safety issue and kia refuses to accept fault

I received a recall notice on my 2007 kia sorento to have the clock spring replaced. Prior to taking the carto the dealer the airbag warning light came on. I took the car to the franklin tndealership assuming the light was caused by the clock spring recall. The tech informed me that it was caused by the ocs mat in the passenger seat and it could be fixed for $2,200+. He also said that i did not need a clock spring. When i checked on the clock spring recall i see my car now has no recalls active. With the same ocs mat problem being covered on the spectra model i feel the sorento should also be included in the extended coverage.

The computer software was updated and on a separate occasion, the side air bag detention sensor was replaced. The failure continued to occur after each repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.

The passenger side airbag sensor in my 2007 kia sorento has failed intermittently ever since i purchased the vehicle in 2009.it fails at least 50% of the time when a passenger is in the seat (sometimes >200 lbs.)upon complaining to the dealer, they continued to insist that the passenger was not sitting properly in the seat.this is ridiculous.i know of no other cars where that is an issue.the dealer says to get out and back in again, but that is not going to happen when you are on a busy highway going 65 mph and realize the airbag is not on.so, then they say to lift your butt up for 10 seconds and then sit back down.it sometimes works, but takes a few tries.and, do you know how embarrassing that is to ask a guest (particularly if a business guest) to do that?again, it is just so ridiculous that i fear owners will ignore it thus putting their passengers at risk.so, i was thrilled to see that there was finally a recall of the 2007 sorento passenger airbag sensor in the fall of 2011.finally, they admit there is a problem.however, then the dealer says that my vin is not covered by the recall.really???this recall needs to be expanded.i am taking my car back again next week and if it is not replaced by kia, i will be calling the kia headquarters legal department to complain.if you can help get this recall expanded so that i and others do not have to go through this, i would greatly appreciate it.

Vancouver kia (3400 ne auto mall dr, vancouver, wa 98662, (360) 342-9104) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The air bag light on my 2007 kia sorento remains illuminated while driving the car. Upon further investigation i found there was a recall from kia motorssc076a and also from nhtsa #11v473000 to replace the sensor. I took the vehicle to hart kia in salem virginia to have this recall and another recall for brake lights repaired. The dealership repaired the brake issue but told me that my car was not recalled for the passenger air bag sensor and a new seat would cost $1,300.00. I called kia motors and filed a claim because my vehicle was manufactured between june 15, 2006 and november 27, 2007. Kia motors and the dealership said they would pay for the seat itself but i would have to pay for the labor. When i asked why i should have to pay for a recall item i was told by both parties that it was not their fault.i did not manufacture the car, i purchased their product. Kia motors should be responsible for the part and the labor, since they installed faulty parts when the car was manufactured. They paid for the partand labor on the brake recall, they can not be selective when repairing recalls. They manufactured the car so they should pay 100% of the repair billit makes me wonder how many people actually had to pay $1,300.00 for a recall..

Passager airbag won't turn on.

We were traveling down i-64 at 6:45 pm at 70 mph when a downpour began suddenly my husband eased off of the accelerator and as we entered the rain.we began to hydroplane we spun 180 degrees.he regained controlonly to hydroplane again.this time he did a 360 and went into a ditch hitting a earthen embankment with the front fender spinning us around and pushing the rear of the car up the embankment this then caused the car to begin rolling we rolled at least 4 times before sliding at least 100 yards down the interstate.no airbags deployed.my husbands seat belt held.however, i was in the back seat with our son and my seat belt as well as his released throwing us into the cargo area.we all were injured and transported to the hospital by ambulance.when we notified kia they acted as if this was no big deal.

Takata recall- i have change all the break pads, and when i press the break pedal i goes all the way down to the floor panel. I have all ready bleed all the line to get the air out, but it not working. Their is no brake ligth on, and on cars.com i see some recalls and the kia's recall campaign number is sc098. Please help thank you

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated as the contact sat in the seat. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 81,200.

Passenger air bag light is on. The dealer said that the passenger seat air bag sensor needs replacement. I have been reading many othersare experiencing this problem which could cause the air bag may deploy unexpectedly or noteven at all. The dealer said my car does not fall under some recall with the same problem for different production dates. The dealer was quick to say t would cost around $2000.00 to fix this. Called kia and they said it is not a safety issue they worry about. Scary it is an air bag fault. I have been going back in forth with dealer and corporate for assistance but there is no help and i found this site searching and hope you can help not just me but all the others out there having the same problem

When driving vehicle the passengers airbag remains in the off position when my wife is seated as a passenger, but when i ride as passenger the air bag is on.(some time it works and others it does not).

The passenger air bag sensor in the vehicle is poorly designed and will frequently disable the front passenger airbag while an adult passenger is riding in the proper manner, as displayed by the vehicles owner manual.moreover, the air bag sensor does not continuously monitor the passenger after it has determined that the air bag should be off - the only way to reset the airbag is to have the passenger lift themselves off of the seat (while remaining buckled) for over 2 seconds.even turning the vehicle off, removing the key, and turning the vehicle back on does not work very reliably - resetting the sensor ~35% of the time.the airbag sensor on this vehicle is a known issue (tsb# kt2008022001), and repeated calls to service centers re-enforce that the manufacturer has no intentions of issuing a recall or even a simple software update to remedy the problem.instead, they instruct that the service members find a 'sufficiently large' mechanic, instruct them to sit in the seat to ensure that the device works correctly.obviously, if you significantly exceed the minimum weight, the sensor works correctly.however, i've had the problem with adult passengers with weights ranging from 120-170 lbs and consider it to be a significant safety flaw with the vehicle.

The sensor for the passenger air bag is nor working reliably.most of the time it either does not detect my wifeat all, or, while i am driving, it suddenly signals that the passenger air bag is off, even though she is still seated. When it does not detect her, the sign 'passenger air bag off' is lit. There is no problem when i (210 pounds) sit on the passenger side, only for my 148 pound wife. I am afraid that our 2007 sorento will not be capable of performing a possibly lifesaving act in the case of an accident. As a passenger, she is unprotected.a friend of ours has a 2008 sportage that also has a sensor for the air bag in the passenger seat cushion and there it works every time my wife gets in the car.we have visited our local dealership several times; having the program reflashed three times and even the seat cushion was replaced with a new one with a new sensor. Unfortunately, the problem was never resolved.our dealership informed us after our last visit that they have done all they can do.

Our 2007 kia sorento, purchased new, and now with 20,000 miles, has, since purchase, had the passenger airbag not on signal go on, almost every time we use it. The dealership said they must see it happen, and cannot replicate it. When we made our way to the dealership, while the signal was lit, they saw it, visually it, and made a note, however, the "computer" did not recognize it as a problem, so they will not correct the "problem".we have been told that if that is lit up and someone is in the seat during an accident, the airbag will not deploy. I am told that kia and their dealerships are aware of this problem, and could replace the seat bottom to fix this problem, yet none of the dealerships we have taken it too, will replace it, unless the main office makes it a recall.our second complaint that they are not willing to do anything about is the strong odor of antifreeze, which literally makes me sick on my stomach when it happens, which is not all of the time. I am afraid these fumes could be harmful.

I lease a 07 kia sorento with 8700 miles on it.the problem that i can't get resolved through the dealer or with kia's customer service is the passenger airbag doesn't always work.they say we like to complain, but i don't want to take a chance of being in an accident and hope the airbag will deploy.this is a very big safety issue!the 1st time my husband (who has worked as a mechanic for 15 years) took it to the dealer he was told we weren't the only one complaining but as soon as the seat softened up it would start to work.10 months later it still isn't working.the second time we took it back they said there wasn't anything wrong with it.the service report says the switch is "fickle" but they don't call that a malfunction.how do i know the airbag will deploy if the light says it is turned off?they said we need to move around in the seat by bouncing on it, sitting back in the seat more, move the seat forward or backwards to find the right spot for the airbag to work.i shouldn't have to and it doesn't make a difference anyhow! the 3rd time was to a different dealer because the car became inoperable due to a major electronic problem and had to be towed.they had my car for almost 2 weeks and said they found some codes and replaced the switch.it still isn't working.i was going down interstate with my 160 lb son and an hour into the trip we noticed the airbag switch said airbag turned off.i had to pull over turn the car off, have him get out, turn the car back on, have him get back in, before the airbag would turn on.i was in the city for an appt. This week and before i left the hospital parking lot, the airbag switch turned to off.we had to shut the car off, and restart it.theswitch would say airbag turned on, drive 15 feet, and now says off. Turn car off, get out, restart car, get in airbag on, drive 20 ft, airbag off.we do this 3 or 4 times before switch says airbag on and stays on.can you put pressure on them to help us out?

While traveling about 35 mph, hit brakes but was unable to avoid frontal collision in kia spectra rented from alamo. The crash was head on. The kia's airbags did not deploy. I was wearing a seatbelt. Alamo has been completely unresponsive, so nothing further can be learned about the car. I have pictures taken at the scene with a cell phone camera clearly depicting the failure.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.when the passenger is in the passenger side front seat, the air bag light remains illuminated and the system indicates that the air bag is off.the dealer reprogrammed the air bag sensor; however, the failure was not corrected.the vehicle is currently at the dealer and they will replace the bottom of the passenger seat.the contact was given a 2008 sorento as a loaner vehicle and it has the same failure.the manufacturer stated that the law required them to install a new air bag system for children.they are having problems with the program and have received numerous complaints.the current mileage was 5,000 and failure mileage was 1,000. Updated 01/29/08the consumer stated there were 2 other vehicles with the same defect. Updated 01/29/08tr

The passenger side airbag sensor malfunctions intermittently on my 2007 kia sorento.there are times when a normal sized person is seated properly, but the airbag sensor indicates the airbag is not activated.previously, if i restarted the car with the passenger seated the issue was corrected, but i have since encountered times when restarting the car does not fix the problem.i have brought my vehicle to two kia dealerships and contacted kia corporate, but was told that there was nothing they could do to help me.

Kia sorento-2007-front passenger-air bag "idiot light". For 2 yrs. Trips back and forth regarding this light to dealer. Unable to assure that air bag system is really working. Light is on when someone is sitting in seat and indicates the air bag is off. Seats and sensors have been replaced to no avail. They just told me today 8-23-2010 that there is no more they can do. Light is still on and their computer still says that it is working. You have many complaints of the same thing-is anything being done? either the light, sensor, air bag or computer is not right. This has been a problem since i bought the car new. This is an intermittent occurrence-doesn't matter when or who is sitting in the seat, if the car is warm or cold. The seat(sensor) has been changed, computer has diagnosed and kia has talked to the tech's. Their machines are not telling them that something is wrong but the service managers and sales people have witnessed it. Are you investigating this?

2007 kia sorento passenger side air bag indicates off with adult in front seat.

I bought a 2007 kia sorento a month ago. It has a passenger sensor in the seat that activates the air bag on the front passenger side. If a child or passenger who doesn't meet the weight requirement sits in the seat it will deactivate the air bag. Problem is that the sensor isn't working for passengers who meet the weight requirement . The air bag is deactivated and therefore the safety feature that is the air bag is no longer there to protect thefront passenger and there is no way to override that feature. I asked the service guy at the kia dealership and he said there's nothing they could do. The front passenger air bag hasn't been working since i bought it.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.the contact stated that the air bag sensor for the front passenger seat works intermittently.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure.the current mileage is 900 and failure mileage was 50.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.the passenger side air bag light illuminated intermittently when an occupant was in the seat.the dealer stated that the ocs "occupancy classification system" malfunctioned.the dealer replaced the seats and sensors; however, the failure still occurred.the failure mileage was 20 and current mileage was 5,600.

Passenger side airbag off light illuminates even when a grown adult is sitting in the seat.the owners manual states, and the service dept at the dealership agree that if a 150 lb adult is in the passenger seat and the off light is illuminated, the airbags will not deploy.the adult can be sitting straight up in the seat with feet in the floor in front of them and the off light is on.the service manager said they cannot fix this, it is a problem.the corp. Office should issue a recall because obviously the sensors are not properly located.what good is the airbag if it won't deploy when needed?

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.while driving 30 mph, the air bag light would not dim.the contact switched places with the person in the passenger seat, but the light still would not dim.the dealer stated that he had to wait for a technician who specialized in air bags.the contact went back to the dealer and was informed that the repair was still not completed.when the repair was finished, the contact test drove the vehicle and the failure still continued.the technician then stated that it could not be repaired and the contact was provided a rental vehicle.the sales dealer informed the contact to return the rental because they could not repair his vehicle, and would no longer pay for the rental.he called kia and they issued case number 1421419.the representative stated that he would investigate the situation and then notify the contact.the kia representative called back and stated that they could not repair the vehicle because they did not have the proper tools.the case was escalated to the supervisor.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 7,500 and failure mileage was approximately 7,400.updated03-19-08 updated 03/19/08

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.the contact stated that the air bag light was illuminated on the front passenger side, which indicated the air bag was off.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the sensory module and the entire passenger seat.ten days later, the air bag light illuminated again.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they were unable to determine the cause of the failure.they stated that ten percent of their vehicles were having the same failures.the manufacturer was unable to provide any assistance.the current and failure mileages were 117.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.the failure mileage was 18 and the current mileage was 1000.the passenger airbag light will stay off when there is an adult in passenger seat.the dealer is unable to diagnose the problem.

On november 17, 2007 i purchased a kia sorento suv.since that date, the passenger seat airbag is disabled all of the time when my wife is sitting in the passenger seat.other adults who weigh more will allow the light to go out, but never for my wife.i returned the car to the dealer for service who informed me that there is nothing that they can do.i contacted kia customer service and they indicated that a regional warranty rep will look at in january, but if he sits in the seat and the light goes out, there is nothing that they will do.my wife is an average adult who weighs enough that the airbag disabling feature should turn off when she sits in the seat.

I have a 2007 kia sorrento that was purchased partly because of the 5 star safety rating. However, in my particular vehicle the passenger side airbag deactivation sensor designed to deactivate the passenger side airbag when the seat is occupied by a child also deactivates the airbag more than 50% of the time when an adult occupies the seat. I have reported this issue to my dealer 3 times and the service manager tells me that there is nothing they can do because there is no "fix" from the factory. He also told me that he is not aware of anyone else having this problem ( i doubt that) and that kia was not particularly concerned about this problem because the passenger side airbag was a "secondary protection device" which was not really necessary to protect the occupant if the occupant was wearing his/her seat belt. I called kia customer service and they basically "blew me off" saying that kia would fix the problem in "due time".how can kia advertise a 5 star safety rating when in fact they are aware of this sensor issue and are not willing or able to fix it? appears to me that there is some false advertising going on and really we have about a 2 star safety rating!

The airbag actuation system is design defective, at least from my point of view, in that it does not always become active , when a passenger is sitting in it.i have had passengers from 105# to 315#, and sometimes the system is active and sometimes not.i have been advised by kia service that the 8" bladder in the seat, which activates the system for deployment in the event of an accident, is sensitive to where and how the passenger sits in the seat.if they don't sit in jus a certain manner, the system does not activate.this is a major safety item and has an immediate urgency to have kia remedy this.in the event of an accident and the bag does not deploy for the passenger due to this problem, i most definitely will be in court with kia.

I bought a new 2007 kia sorento on 11-1-07 from banner kia in mandeville, la. With my wife in the passenger seat (125 lbs.) the air bag light remains illuminated indicating that the air bag in inoperable. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and the technicians supposedly fixed the problem. Enroute home the light came on again. The dealer then supposedly recalibrated a sensor and the light stayed out. Now my daughter who weighs 117 lbs will not put the light out to put the air bag in service.have you had similar complaints on kia vehicles? i am beginning to think that the dealership technicians are not capable in making my vehicle safe. Any suggestions?

Air bag sensor light on passenger side of 07 kia rio was on after repairs from an accident.took to kia of conyers for diagnosis.almost a month later, my car is still at the dealership.it was determined that it was a warranty issue which i am reporting in case more people have this same problem.safety is my main concern.

Purchased a new 2007 kia sorrento on 3/30/07.left the dealership with the passenger side airback disconnect light on with an adult sitting in the seat.have taken the car into two different dealer service departments and they have refused to address this safety issue.reported problem to kia usa consumer affairs and no action has been taken other than refer us to another dealer for service.a service manager i spoke with said this was a "known problem" with the 06 and 07 sorrento but that the company could not "reproduce a hard error".the service manager went on to tell me that there are sensors in the seat cushion and seat back and that a passenger has to sit in the seat in a particular way in order for contact to be made properly.the manager went on to say that he had seen a lot of 06 and 07 sorrento's with this problem and was waiting on kia to take action.other than pursue the lemon law process, what other recourse does a consumer have with a clear engineering defect of a key safety feature?

Passenger side air bag light does not go off every time a passenger is sitting in seat.which will not let air bag deploy.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. The contact stated while at idle at fast food drive thru, when he saw smoke exiting from the hood. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park at the parking lot and was able to extinguished the fire with a wet towel. A fire report was field with the fire department. The contact stated no one was injured or sought medical attention. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to local dealer kia atlanta south (7310 jonesboro rd, morrow, ga 30260. (770) 968-3400) where the vehicle was still being diagnosed. The vin was associated to nhtsa campaign number: 20v088000 (electrical system, service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer had been informed of failure and stated the failure was not associated to recall associated to the vin. The failure mileage was 102,000.

I own a 2007 kia sorento. Recently, my check engine and esc off lights became illuminated on my dashboard. I noticed that my brake lights were not illuminating when i pressed the brake pedal. After looking up my car make and model on the nhtsa website, i noticed there was a recall for my model year sorento for the exact same problems (nhtsa campaign number 13v114000/kia service campaign sc098). I took the carto my local kia dealership and they told me i was not eligible for the recall as my vin was not included. As such, i have to drive around without functional brake lamps until i get this problem resolved--increasing my chances of being rear-ended. I travel constantly for work so i do not have the luxury of not driving. This needs to be investigated and resolved.

While the vehicle was sitting, not running, the car began to smoke from the drivers side engine compartment and under the dash. The smoke got much worse and the heat from the source was growing. After opening the hood and disconnecting the positive terminal on the battery the smoke slowed and eventually stopped all together.note - the car was parked and the engine was not running. Also the car was, and had been sitting since the night before and the engine was cold to the touch when the electrical fire transpired. Note: the locations that were bellowing smoke were hot to the touch and the smoke was black and gray. The inside of the cab had filled up with smoke as well and had a strange new odor that is unpleasant to say the least. Over all the car did not catch full fire and the damage is not visible to the eye. The enteral unseen damage may be significant.note: current mileage unavailable being the battery must stay unplugged to avoid the entire car catching on fire. The only reason that the car stopped burning was because of quick and dangerous actions taken to disconnect the battery.

Takata recalli have had my 07' sorento to several places. I originally took it to the place i biought it from. I was referred to a kia dealership, which took my car apart twice and ran a camera through it and replaced the rear crank shaft. Then i replaced every sensor and spark plug ion the thing and also had power steering problems. It sounded loud and was always needing parts but in the spring, i pulled in my driveway and left my car running a few minutes while i got things outside taken care of because it was dark,( the car has approx.124,000 miles on it) while it sat in my driveway for maybe 5 minutes it spit and sputtered and died in my driveway. I tried to restart it and it would barely start running. I took it to have it looked at once again and was told timing chain, electrical and crank shaft again. Needs new engine most likely and no one wants to work on it because it has some many issues!so , i am paying a loan for this car that has been sitting in my driveway for months because i will not and cannot pay for this vehicle to have anymore work done!

Service brake hydraulic switches brake light, exterior lighting brake light switch, air bag frontal sensor/control module. No brake light when brake is press, cruise ontrol, esc light, air bag and gear shift will not move from park.

Vehicle ignited from rear left tail light.it was not running nor were the keys in the ignition.upon contacting kia, they asked for photos of the damaged vehicle to submit to engineers.the engineers said that the fire didn't have anything to do with a brake light switch recall and offered no other explanation to what started the fire.the vehicle was just sitting in the driveway.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.three days after purchasing the vehicle, the air bag light illuminated, which indicated that the passenger side air bag was deactivated.while driving between 40-45 mph, the vehicle hesitated and jerked.when the vehicle is stopped at a stop sign or a red light, the exterior lights shut off.the contact has had to strike the dashboard in order to get the air conditioning to work.in addition, none of the windows will roll down.the blinkers, turn signal, and cruise control do not work.after owning the vehicle for ten months, the alternator had to be replaced and it currently needs to be replaced again.the rails to step up into the vehicle had to be replaced twice.during a crash with a deer, both the driver's and passenger side air bags failed to deployed and the seat belts did not work.as a result, the passenger sustained a broken arm.on two occasions, when the vehicle was taken to the dealer, the contact was informed that the tires needed to be rotated and aligned.on the third occasion, she was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty.since owning the vehicle, she has been to the dealer several times with many complaints, but they have never made any repairs.a hyundai inspector stated that the entire vehicle was out of specifications.the failure mileage was 600. Updated 09/23/08.*ljthe consumer hit a deer and the air bags did not deploy and the seat belts did not perform as they were designed. The transmission would delay in shifting and would not shift in the correct gear. Updated 09/24/08.

When opening doors, the dome light no longer would turn on.this eventually continued until the front lights no longer turn on, and now the rear hatch lights do not turn on either.the lights work when they are manually turned on, just not when the doors open.it was checked by a repair shop and they say it is not a switch issue (as the lights on three of the doors still light when open).they feel it is an electrical issue and found hundreds of posts from as far back as 2003 sorentos with the same issues.the lights not turning on is a huge safety issue for myself and my family trying to enter a pitch black vehicle at night time.

When car is in motion even when cruise control is on going over 30 miles an hour, there will be a hesitation in forward motion. Its not a transmission jerk. Its a pause while in motion. The headlights also do the same when on. They will be on normal then go dim while in motion. We have trouble shooted and no codes come up. We believe it is an electrical issue. We have only had vehichle for 2 yrs and its done this every since we had it but its gotten worse.wasnt as noticable when we purchased but it wasnt being driven for long distances. Now it has been drove on long trips and is very noticeable. Feels like the car will just stop/shut down in motion.

Takata recall.air bag light on dash stays on at all times and "passenger air bag on/off" indicator indicates off, even when an adult is sitting in the passenger seat.additionally, horn won't blow at times.

My 07 kia sorento when trying to enter the state highway. When you push down on the accelerator pedal. The viechel state to accelerate and then all of a sudden the esc. Light comes on and the suv. Goes into safe limp mode. Where it will not accelerate and will not climb over 20mph. For a very long period. My family and i have been in a few situations where we were almost hit.looking online i can see that this is far from being a isolated ordeal.and that because of the age of theviechel . I am reading where more and more people are dealing with the same issue but not going to the dealer because of the cost involved.with the number of the viechels sold there have to be quite a few that have resulted in a accident that involves bodily injury. If not god forbid even death.i just hope this reaches the desk or screen of someone who can investigate this matter. A lot better than what i am capable of doing.

I have taken this vehicle to the purchasing dealer 7 times for multiple issues including transmission or torque converter difficulty switching gears, the main wiring harness fell down into the dash, poor braking performance.the major issue has been the random, but daily esc off light coming on and off. The dealer seems either unwilling or incapable of correcting this issue. I have filed a customer service request we kia two weeks ago, randy ext 45295kia customer service assured me he would 'get back to me' in two business days. Today is the seventh business day and no reply.it's my opinion that the esc issue, wiring harness, and poor braking are issues that should be address in via recall since kia customer service and warranty commitment are meaning less to kia corporation.

Sunday morning, i was driving my vehicle at a speed of less than 45 mph.the "check engine" light and "esc off" light came on simultaneously.at the same time, my vehicle lost power and would not change out of 2nd gear.i pulled into a nearby parking lot, turned off the vehicle, and waited for one minute.i restarted the vehicle and it cranked just fine.i pulled out of the parking lot and went no more than 30 yards when the lights came back on and my vehicle lost power completely - no response when pressing the gas pedal.i coasted into a loading area where i was forced to call aaa to have my vehicle towed to the nearest car repair center.i communicated with them throughout the day monday, and the end result was this: my vehicle was taken to the charlotte kia dealership and a test was done to read and determine the error.the diagnosis was a faulty "transfer case decoder motor", something i had never even heard of.the repair is going to cost approximately $1,000 because of associated diagnostic tests and the part itself costing $570.according to what i read on the internet, there is a "service" for this component that is to be done around 45,000 miles.my vehicle has been to the same kia dealer numerous times and this component has never been addressed.not once was the "service" mentioned to me by the service team.this is a serious issue that could result in injury or death if it occurred on an interstate or in an intersection.thankfully, i was in a safe area and no one was at risk of accident or injury.this problem is widespread among kia vehicles - the service manager at aaa stated he has a 2007 kia sedan in there right now with the same problem.i feel kia is at fault and negligent for this malfunction.

Daughter was driving the vehicle when the turn signals started flashing. As she pulled to a stop, someone came up to her window and told her there was smoke coming from the back of the vehicle. She pulled in toa parking lot to call me. When i arrived at the vehicle there was a small fire coming from underneath the right rear of the vehicle. Fire department was called and fire was out by the time they arrived. Fire department looked underneath the vehicle and found that the trailer hitch wiring harness shorted out and started on fire. My daughter was not towing anything at the time. Wiring harness is oem

I received a manufacturer recall notice about possible fires due to braking circuits in the early spring, but the dealership knew nothing about it. The car was parked outside as suggested.i received a second notice at the end of june. The suv was serviced 7/14/20 for a recall on the braking circuit.on 8/22/20a beautifully clear saturday, i was driving home from a neighboring community on a paved country road.i noticed that the esc off indicator light displayed on the dashboard. I stopped to look in the manual to see if the car was driveable.i parked my car in the garage after arriving home and noticed that tail lights/brake lights remained on even with the engine turned off. Because of two prior manufacturer warnings about fire with the electrical system, i parked the caroutside away from the house as recommended.i called the kia dealership at 4:30 that day and arranged with cameron to drop the suv off on sunday. On sunday, my neighbor helped jump start my car and he fooled around under the dash to turn the brake lights off.he said to tell the dealership that the wires were warm which i did. I included a list of concerns/facts with my key in the drop off box. On monday, 8/24/20 cameron, the service agent, said that the braking circuit "was fried" .the repair cost of $2,516.07 would include the electrical circuit and all wires.the completed work order billsaid that the hydraulic modul was replaced, the switch assembly, and hecu,

Part was already replaced on a mandatory recall.now the replacements for the recall are failing.kia will not stand behind the repair costs, this means many people will be driving with out brake lights.i am on my third switch- the part should easily out live the car!i am sure they replaced it with the same exact part thinking most people would be out of the vehicle by the time it failed again.i am sure this is not what you had in mind when you issued the other recalls on this part.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v088000 (electrical system, service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle decelerate. The contact stated she depressed the brake pedal however the vehicle failed to stop. The contact stated the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact was able to park on the side of the road. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact also stated she saw smoke exiting the hood. The contact stated a sheriff was on the scene to assist her and he opened the hood and more smoke was seen however, no flames were seen. The vehicle was towed to kia of vacaville (651 orange dr, vacaville, ca 95687; (707) 392-4623), where it was diagnosed with a cracked radiator that needs to be replaced. The dealer also informed the contact that the radiator failure was not associated to the recall.the vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The dealer also confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

I just received a recall on my kia sorento, it says it is due to a electrical anti lock brake system. And followed by this letter my light does stay on for this part and other lights are on too do to this. I'm scared to death to drive this kia now. I think for this kind of problem, they should recall the entire vehicle. And give me a brand new kia sorrento. Because this is life or death, and this is the only vehicle i have to take care of my daughter. To school and doctor, or what ever her needs and mine are. I am a single mother on a fixed income and i'm very scared for mine and my child's life or who rides with us. So i think kia dealership should take my kia that's recalled and give me a new one for that. I travel alot everyday and i need a dependable vehicle and shouldn't have to worry about my family's safety for using my kia.

Speedometer read slower then the car is moving.i have brought this to the dealers attention, and got no good results.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and several warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. I was driving on the highway when my steering wheel became really stiff like i lost power steering. I looked at my dash and had a check engine light, oil light, abs light, and esc off light illuminated. I pressed the gas to try to switch lanes as i was in the far left lane and needed to reach the shoulder to figure out what was going on, and the car would not accelerate. I turned my flashers on and was luckily able to make it to the shoulder without causing an accident. When i was on the shoulder i turned the key off and then back on. The check engine light and oil light went away, but the abs light and the esc light remained on. I started to drive back towards my house and felt the car idling roughly when at a stop. At home my husband disconnected the battery for a few minutes which solved the rough idling issue but the abs and esc lights are still on. I am now scared to drive my daughter to school and have the car shift off again. I have read similar reviews about this vehicle. Something needs to be done by kia to solve this. They recalled some vehicles for this issue but mine is not listed and clearly needs to be!

Esc and check engine light illuminated.took vehicle to dealer for repairs.dealer service dept stated that brake light switch was at fault, but that it had been previously replaced in mar 2010 under a recall campaign.after replacing switch this time, dealer service adviser stated that switch appeared to be original, but that i would still have to pay for parts and labor ($129.86).i paid but protested.i have serious doubts that brake light switch was replaced in mar 2010 as dealer stated, since the recently replaced switch appeared to be original equipment.subsequently, i feel as though i should not have to pay for the most recent (aug 2014) repair, especially if switch had not been replaced under recall campaign previously.i suspect that dealer either falsified the mar 2010 repair, and/or replaced recalled switch with identical replacement (which is prone to failure).what good is a recall if original defect was simply reinstalled?i do have possession of defective switch replaced in aug 2014.not only do i want my money returned to me, but i would like some assurance that the problem is now remedied with a reliable switch.please respond.

My esc light will come on and my car will lose all power, step on gas and nothing happens, have to pull over, stop engine and restart, then car runs normal, this seems to be very dangerous if happens on freeway

2007 kia sorento...esc light comes on, thereby disabling the cruise control function. Consequently, the vehicle goes into "limp" mode, meaning you depress the accelerator and you have no power. This has been happening repeatedly over the last year. It has occur at low speeds and highway speeds. Recently, it occurred while making a left turn, exposing the vehicle into oncoming traffic. Luckily, the other vehicles were able to slow down and stop. Every time it happens, we have to stop the vehicle, put in park and turn it off. Even then, it will happen multiple times during the same trip.

I own a 2007 kia sorento lx with 47,760 miles on it currently (today's date 09/10/2014). The first symptoms happened a few months ago where my car would hesitate upon acceleration and/or i would be traveling between 30-45 mph and the car would begin bucking/jerking for a few seconds. This was very intermittent and random. If i took my foot off the gas pedal, then reapplied the gas the car would be fine. Then that symptom went away and i gained a new symptom. I was driving approximately 30 mph, when all of the sudden my ecs off light and check engine light came on simultaneously, and i instantly lost power/acceleration. It appears that when this happens the car goes into "limp home" mode? it has happened twice to me in the past 3 days. This is very dangerous because the loss of power/acceleration is instant, it happens without warning, and it does not matter how fast you are going. This could cause loss of life if it happens on a highway at a high rate of speed. All of these symptoms began to appear right after i had the recalls done on my vehicle (i.e. Brake switch and ecm upgrade). My car was fine before i had the recalls done.

I am an owner of a 07 kia sorento ex.a few months ago i noticed the "esc off" light would illuminate at random instances and would not turn off until the vehicle's engine was turned off and then restarted again. This issue is of concern to myself as well as other kia owners i have come across. Reason being, when the "esc off" light engages and stays on, the vehicle loses power while driving.i have had two separate occasions where this has happened on the freeway. While changing lanes and trying to accelerate, i was stuck at a speed of 50mph with traffic behind me at 65mph or faster.assuming that i was going to accelerate the vehicles behind me had to slam on their brakes instead.when i took my kia to the dealer to diagnose the problem i was informed that i am not the first customer experiencing this problem and that there is a service bulletin posted regarding the "esc off" light illuminating and vehicle throttle loss. The diagnostic check read, that there is a transfer case decoder motor fault. I was told kia was offering to cover the repairs under 60000mi warranty but that i came in at 62000 and did not comply with recommended transfer case services listed in the manual, they would not cover under any warranty. Kia believes that my lack of transfer case service to my vehicle is the reason for this problem. I can't help but to think, that based on how many kia sorento consumers are having this same problem there may be a defect in kia's "esc" system. In my experience with this issue i can say that i believe this to be a serious safety hazard while driving.

Takata recall: vehicle is unstable when driving, it jumps when on motion. When driving in the night the head lights goes on and off, rear wiper is working non stop even when the car is off. This electric system dysfunction also affects the radio system.

In february of 2012 i took my 2007 kia sorento into the local kia dealership because my "esc off" light kept coming on when i would make a right hand turn.the steering sounded like it was groaning as i was in these turns.when they read the code it came up as "p1739 encode fault", which on my paperwork states can signal a communication error.further inspection showed that the transfer case motor was seizing up and causing the issue.the motor was replaced at that time.on march 11th as i was driving on the highway at 75 mph, the light came on again and the engine sort of lost power.i drove on, tried to turn the light off to no avail.when i was able to exit the interstate, i shut off the engine and waited a few minutes.i turned the engine back on and the light went off.this happened again six days later, once again at highway speed.both times i had cruise control on.both times the engine reacted strangely when the light came on.as before, when the car was turned off and then back on, the light went off.i took the vehicle into the dealership again on 3/21/13 and once again the transfer case motor was the issue.this time it had an internal open circuit.transfer case motor has been replaced once again.part has a 12 mos or 12,000 mile warranty.first incident happened at 52,870 miles and second incident at 62,173 miles.this part failed at less than 10,000 miles, but over 12 months.from what i have read, i am one of the lucky ones that has not ended up in a crash.definitely scary when this happens at 75-80 mph.

Beginning in early august 2014, the esc and check engine light would illuminate while driving down the road. The vehicle accelerator stops working and the vehicle goes into limp mode. We are unable to get more than 40 mph out of it and on several occasions, nearly caused an accident when other vehicles would come up from behind very suddenly. We were fortunate that we were in an area where we could get off the road quickly. Once we have come to a stop, if we turn the engine off and restart, the lights reset themselves and the vehicle functions normally until the next time it happens. The first time it happened was shortly after we bought the car new and the kia dealership replaced a brake light switch under recall #09v130000. This helped until recently. We took the vehicle to the dealership and they replaced a throttle position sensor at the cost of $395.00. It helped for two weeks and the problem returned exactly the same. This time the dealer informed us that it was the accelerator pedal assy - engine control system at the tune of $250.00 all these items are part of the esc system and cause the vehicle to go to limp mode. I'm concerned that there may be other sub-assemblies associated with it and every time one goes bad, we'll end up in limp mode and/or a hood ornament on a kenworth. This is ridiculous and needs to be addressed by kia at no cost to consumers.

Takata recalli have had my 07' sorento to several places. I originally took it to the place i biought it from.

The car makes a bad ticking noise mostly when start up and it gets so bad that sounds like my engine head wants to blow. And everytime i start the car the biggest cloud of smoke comes out the exhaust can cover an entire parking lot with smoke its very embarrassing. There's an electrical problem with the windows and the switches. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I think my car also missing rear suspension shock absorbers. My oil levels get so low that the check engine light and oil sensor light don't even come on to warm me. I mean my car looks new but has internal defective problems. The esc light turns on car stalls, stops. Mechanic diagnosis shows nothing wrong with car. Car constantly stalls, or starts to begin stalling and lights on after 10 or minutes of driving. Mechanic cant find problem. This has happen since i purchase car at drive time 10-31-12. Many people have same problem not fixed class action suit is considered buy all. Please help asap. This problem should be a recall situation.this problem can cause a death while driving the vehicle!!!.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My esc light will come on and my car will lose all power, step on gas and nothing happens, have to pull over, stop engine and restart, then car runs normal, this seems to be very dangerous if happens on freeway

During acceleration, the "esc off" light comes on, the "check engine" light comes on, and i lose power simultaneously.when i turn the car off and restart it, the esc off light does not come back but the check engine light stays on.this happened 3 times on during my hour commute to work.if i was in a passing situation or were in the middle of crossing traffic, this would have been a serious safety concern.

At highway speeds, vehicle check engine light comes on and the power from accelerator greatly reduces. Appears to go into 1st gear, and vehicle only able to drive at 5mph. Stopped car on shoulder, turned engine off and parked. Restarted vehicle with no power or transmission problems; check engine light remained on. After 5 minutes of driving, repeat in activities. Occurred 5 times within 20 mile drive. Very unsafe to have occur on highway.

2007 kia sorento engine blown up. No warning signs had occurred.no check engine light came on. While driving the car lost all power. Upon an inspection the oil had turned to sludge. Oil only had approx. 900 miles. Needed to have new engine installed.

Airconditioner blower motor failure accompanied by noise caused by the(2)cabin air filter elements coming loose from filter element housing and lodging in the air conditioner evaporator unit located behind the glove box. The kia dealer was unable to find the filter elements during inspection of the evaporator unit while diagnosing the source of the noise. The kia district manager for florida refuses to address this concern and does not consider it a safety concern. The cost to fix this item is $280.00.

When trying to open the drivers door, there was a loud pop and the door was unable to be opened from the outside. This is a major issue in the event of an emergency or an accident. I've gone to the kia dealer and they are quoting an outrageous amount just to take a look at the issue. This is inconvenient while i travel to and from work, as i have to climb through the passenger side in order to get in the car! the problem initially began december of 2014, and my father had to leave a stick or a wired hanger on the floor boards so that when entering the vehicle i would lean in through either the passenger or rear drivers door to open the driver door. On 8/4/15, the door has stopped working completely. This is obviously a manufacturing issue as the same thing has happened to the rear passenger door as well. I haven't found an independent repair person that can actually fix this issue and it's something that needs attention asap!

Takata recall: vehicle is unstable when driving, it jumps when on motion. When driving in the night the head lights goes on and off, rear wiper is working non stop even when the car is off. This electric system dysfunction also affects the radio system.

Service brake hydraulic switches brake light, exterior lighting brake light switch, air bag frontal sensor/control module. No brake light when brake is press, cruise ontrol, esc light, air bag and gear shift will not move from park.

I have replaced appro. 15 low beam bulbs and fuses in the past 3 months. They don't last very long and when i called the dealer they told me tobring it in but i would have to pay all costs. I have read many complaints on this vehicle after googling it.i was driving down a dark road at 10:30 p.m. One time when this happened. That could have caused a wreck.

I just purchaced a 2007 kia sorento 2 days ago . I got into the car early this morning to go to work , it was dark outside when my headlights came on so did all of my interior dome lights they would not turn off unless i had my headlights off. This was an extremely dangerous drive to work. I arrived very upset and went on line and found out that this is a serious light proble that many other people have and they have been told this can be fixed at thier expence. I want to know why there hasnt been a recall for this.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. While parked, the contact opened the rear driver's side door and noticed a load clicking sound upon closing the door. The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.after owning the vehicle for a week, the contact discovered that the rear seat passengers could not enter or exit the vehicle without electronically opening the door.it is very difficult to manually open the door and requires great strength.he considers this to be a safety hazard because in the event of a crash or loss of electrical power, the doors would be difficult to open.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they it for over six days.when the contact retrieved the vehicle, he noticed that the rear doors and side passenger doors would no longer latch in the forward position.he took the vehicle back to the dealer and they were able to repair the latch failure, but the doors are still difficult to open manually.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer once more, but the sales manager explained that the vehicle doors were working as they were designed.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 300 and current mileage was 1,050.

I was driving my 2 month old 2007 kia optima ex 6 cyc with 4,000 miles on feb 16 about 10:45 pm when it lost power steering and other car functions. I had just exit an expressway (ih 35) to reach my home when i heard a large clunk and warning lights appeared re: loss of electrical power from to the battery. I was unable to initial steer the vehicle b/c the power steering was not working with significant difficultly i gained control for the short mile distance to my home. This car is being used under normal driving conditions. I looked under the hood and saw that the main engine belt had come off and a largeround metal circular gear was laying against the engine block. The engine belt had come off all the pulleys which runs many major engine functions. I had the kia towed it the following monday (2/18/08) at 8am to kia in georgetown, tx . Kia service mgr., matt, around 5pm said that the harmonic balancer "broke and it wasn't supposed to do that". When asked how this could happen with a brand new car, he said it just happens. Kia customer service rep, eddy, told me this was a major part and repair. Both kia reps remained very vague on explaining if this part was a result of an optima defect that caused the harmonic balancer to fail early and easily. This was a serious safety hazard that may/could have ruin my crankshaft, engine, and caused serious injury to many drivers present.i realized that i was very lucky this did not happen while on the expressway at 70 mph else you would never hear this story.this reason and kia's suspiciouslyvague explanations is why i feel this needs tobe reported to you and investigated.

The vehicle did not respond and rear ended a second vehicle. The front end of the contact's vehicle was severely damaged, but the air bag did not deploy. The driver sustained an injured right ankle that required medical attention. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,600. The consumer stated once she was aware she was rolling backwards, she puthe vehicle in park, it continued to roll. The consumer then shifted into drive striking another vehicle.

This car was purchase new from the dealership. It has always been serviced by the dealership. After a recent oil change i heard a "whine" noise in the rearend so i took it into the dealership. After inspection they say i need a new rear end for $2000 and that it is not covered under warranty because on previous work they mentioned that a change in fluid was requested. If this change in fluid was so important why was i not informed. This is like a doctor saying if you do not do this you will die. I also have purchased a second kia from this dealership and am very loyal. Now i feel that both kia and the dealership have thrown me under the bus. Who can one trust in today's world.

We had an electrical issue with the car and it was towed to a dealership a couple hundred miles from home. There the dealer noticed the bracket that holds the rear end on had rusted away and it was leaking fluid. The car has around 45,000 miles on it and i feel that an issue like this should have been a recall as i have since found is a common problem and was recalled in europe for the same thing. My daughter could have been killed. This car has been in a kia dealership 3 times so far this year for an oil leak issue and they should have mentioned this issue. The warranty ran out in may after the last visit up to this one. The dealer even said there could have been a fire.

I bought a 2007 kia sorento in october, 2007.the car only has 3,000 miles and has a horrible shifting problem that i am told all 2007 sorentos have.when the car is going between 40 and 50, it sounds like and shudders like a 10 year old beat up car.it is like it won't shift gears.the motor is extremely louder than the 2003 kia sorento i owned (wish i had it back).i am terribly unhappy with the transmission and shifting problems this car has.

We purchased this a 2007 kia sorento for folgers kia in feb of 2007.after about 4 months we noticed that when accelerating between 35 and 45 miles per hour the car shudder violently and loses power.in my opinion very dangerous.we finally got the car in the shop on jan 2, 2008 only to be told that kia says their is a software problem and it can't be fixed.also told it is normal for the sorento.if normal, why didn't it do it when we first bought it and test drove it?i find their answer unacceptable.in my opinion it is very dangerous and if this problem can't be fixed then it is a lemon.please assist with how to proceed.i'm getting nowhere with kia's very inadequate service departments.

I purchase a 2007 kia sorento at vandevere kia. It came with the 5-speed auto-matic sportmatic shifting. It bangs into gear, slips into gear and slides into gear. It hardly ever shifts 100%. Plus it pulsates between 40 & 50 miles an hours. Not all the time & not the same way all the time. Also when it's in 5th gear and i move it to the right in the sportamatic position, it drops to 4th gear. I've drove 2 other kia's with that type of shifter and if your in 5th & move it to the right, your in 5th gear. Also there is play either in the transmission or the drive shafts. You can feel it when you go from forward to reverse. Comes into play as a detriment when on icy roads. I traded my beautiful 2004 kia sorento in for this piece of junk. I've purchased 3 kia's now & found out that customer loyalty doesn't matter to kia. I've been trying to get my car fixed for 6 months now. They know there's a problem & can't figure out how to fix it. I drove another 2007 sorento in there lot and it does the same thing mine does.

My 2007 kia sorento was involved in two accidents in 2009-10.both were as a result of a faulty 4-wheel drive mechanism.when we purchased the car in 2007, we reported to the dealership that when the car was in 4-wheel drive and stopped to turn, it made a jerking movement that was dangerous.we were told it operated as designed.on february 21, 2010, i was turning into my garage in central oregon on ice, the car was in 4-wheel drive and it made a series of lurching movements which caused the car to slide into the garage wall.i still have the dent in the passenger door from that incident. On october 27, 2009 on my way to work, i noticed the temperature was 31 degrees, and put my ("on the fly" 4-wheel drive) car into 4-wheel drive.i immediately went into a 360 spin on a highway.i was driving approximately 40 miles an hour.all four tires were flat when i landed in the dirt on the side of the road.the dealership told me this car isn't an "on the fly" 4-wheel drive even though the manual says it is.i reported both of these accidents to kia safety headquarters.they tell me the car operates as designed, and therefore are not concerned.i am very concerned that someone will die in one of these 2007 kia's when using 4-wheel drive.i know that kia redesigned the sorento in 2008 to be all wheel, and it doesn't have this design defect .however, what about all of us who drive in cold, icy weather many days of the year and need our 4-wheel drive?do we just hope the jerking motion when we are stopped and turning will not cause us to slide into something?do we stop every time we need to put our "on the fly" four wheel drive in play?kia needs to fix our cars so they are safe for the entire 100,000 mile warranty period!

I have a two wheel drive 2007 kia sorento.when i drive between 35 and 50 mph the car begins to jerk, sometimes violently.i have taken it twice to the dealer to have it looked at.the dealer has contacted kia engineers who say that the jerking is within acceptable parameters and nothing will be done to fix the problem. They have described the problem as being called a fish bite.the invoice for service states that "this is normal tcc lock up at lower speeds low rpm in lockup."

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.while driving at various speeds, mainly between 42 and 45 mph, the vehicle jerks and vibrates. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer on four occasions.the second time, the dealer replaced the driveshaft, however, the failure still persists.the current mileage was 1,600 and failure mileage was 959.updated 12-12-07.the dealer wasn't sure what the problem was. They stated the problem may be a software or torque converter issue. Updated

I purchased a 2007 kia sorento on 1/6/07 from chris leith kia in wake forest, nc.not long after i bought it, i noticed that it frequently jerked when accelerating at higher rates of speed.on 1/11/07, i took the car back to the dealer and complained of the problem.at that time they told me it was the electronic throttle body which was self adjusting ,and would fix itself as i drove it.the vehicle continued to struggle, so i took it back to kia on 3/5/07.they had the vehicle for 3 days.after correspondence with kia, i was told to come pick up the vehicle.they told me that kia was aware of the problem and that they were working on a solution.it is believed to be a software issue.as of today, 4/5/07, i still have no solution to my problem.i have been in touch with the dealer, and have been told that they are still working on a solution. I am very frustrated!a brand new vehicle should not run like this!!!

In july, 2007, i purchased a 2007 kia sorento.on my first occasion to drive on the interstate, coming home from work, i encountered a major shudder or jerking when traveling at approximately 35 mph.the interstate was very show traveling due to an accident.when i tried to accelerate, the car shuddered (or jerked) several times extremely hard but then straightened out.the hard shudders occur at approximately 35 to 45 mph.also, when traveling with the cruise control engaged, if i have to disengage the cruise control due to slowing traffic, i press the middle cruise control button and take over manually.when traffic picks back up, i press the "resume" button, again...the shudder.the shudder or jerking always happens upon acceleration.when attempting a hill at 35 to 45 mph, the car loses power all together and really struggles until reaching the top.i had contacted the dealership and taken the sorento in for repair.the service manager drove the car, did in fact experience the shudder, but was unable to come up with a solution to fix it.he contacted his district manager who said he was working a car with the same problem and was trying to find a "cure."i have taken my car back to the dealership and even drove with the service manager.he acknowledges the problem but, again, at this time, there is no solution as to how to fix it.i contacted kia headquarters to see if they were working on trying to find a solution to fix the shudder.i was told that this is probably a characteristic of the car and would be considered "normal" performance for the sorento.i find this totally unacceptable.i had driven a loaner sorento when mine was in for maintenance and it did not do the shudder.i am very disappointed with my sorento and am considering trading again.

I bought this 2007 sorento october 10, 2007. Transmission was messed up from the start. I have posted earlier about my problems (odi id number : 10222227). Some of my problems were fixed. The problem with the up-shifting and down-shifting at the same time were fixed. But i still have to much play in drive-line when shifting from forward to reverse. And that play comes in to effect when other shifts happen. When going down a hill and the engine and transmission catch up with each other, i can feel the ker-klunk or shutter when they do. And also at times i feel the same thing when the car get almost to the top of a hill and it's time for the transmission to up-shift, i feel that same shutter. I took it back to the dealership for those problems a week or so ago and they had my car for 9 days. Now the car does a hard shift into almost every gear. Started with feeling the hard shift into the first 2 gears and now feel it even in 5th gear. These transmission problem have been going on since october 10, 2007. Plus as posted before, the sport-a-matic portion of the transmission is still screwed up. When traveling at 65 miles an hour and moving shifter from left to right into sport-a-matic position, the transmission automatically drops to 4th gear. I've drove 3 other models of there cars and none of them do this. They stay in the gear that they were in on the left side. This type of transmission are real popular now. I've checked with anybody i know with that type of transmission and there's all work properly. Kia tells me since that year, that model does that, that i have to live with it. Also the car has a slight vibration at times at higher speeds.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento lx.the contact stated that the vehicle's transmission surges and has difficulty switching gears.she has taken the vehicle to a kia dealership twice because the torque converter continues to lock up.the failure is noticeable at 35 mph.during the first service visit, a software update was performed.on the second visit, the dealer stated that no repair was currently available for the torque converter.the engine size was unknown.the current mileage is 720 and failure mileage was 100.

Tla* the contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, it began to rain heavily and the vehicle suddenly hydro-planed. The consumer regained control of the vehicle, but it hydro -planed again and the vehicle hit an embankment with the front bumper spinning the vehicle around. The vehicle then rolled over four-six times, before landing in a ditch. Both rear seat belts became unlatched independently and the air bags failed to deploy upon impact. The contact sustained bruises, scrapes and lacerations to the shoulder area. Two rear passengers also sustained lacerations. Another passenger suffered from a concussion and a bruised kidney.a police report was filed of the incident. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a salvage center. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.updated 08/27/13*ljthe consumer stated the air bag did not deploy and the seat belts release

Each door handle is popping and i'm unable to open doors from the outside. The rear passenger door has stopped working and at the time the child lock was on and i can no longer use that door at all. The seatbelt on the rear driver's side will not buckle into the socket and my child has to wrap the belt around him when he rides in the back. Should an accident occur, not only will he not be fully covered by his safety seat, but if we should have to escape suddenly, neither of us can just open our doors and get out! this is an ongoing issue and it's quite expensive to get fixed at the dealer. Also, just recently while driving the gear shaft popped out of place and my father taped it back on so that i'm able to get back and forth to work and school.

( passenger side ) airbag is not activated when a passenger is in seat. Kia replaced the the sensor and after returning home it still was not working.kla told me that sense it has been already replaced there is nothing else they would do.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. While driving approximately 75 mph, the contact was unable to set the cruise control and unable to activate the stability control. The rear brake lights also would not illuminate. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake switch would have to be replaced.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

Service brake hydraulic switches brake light, exterior lighting brake light switch, air bag frontal sensor/control module. No brake light when brake is press, cruise ontrol, esc light, air bag and gear shift will not move from park.

Nhtsa site does not yet reflect that nhtsa recall #: 20v088 affects my vehicle. Your site, which issued that recall states that there are 0 unresolved recalls for my vehicle, but my vehicle has not yet been serviced for that recall. The nhtsa site needs to be updated regarding this recall dated march 25, 2020, with dealer service responses commencing april 10, 2020.mailed recall notice received from kia. Thank you for your important work, and stay safe.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. The contact stated that the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brakes were depressed. As a result, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle due to not knowing that the contact was applying the brakes. The contact sustained injuries to the back and a police report was not filed. After the crash, the contact received notification that the vehicle was included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign number: 13v114000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 170,000.

My daughter was on her way to work, she was coming to a stop at the end of the road and had no brakes and she continued on across the road went up the bank across the road and when she reached the top it began sliding down and ended up laying on the passenger side. Thankfully she was not hurt to bad. I have had the car checked out, replaced the windshield and passenger door window and mirror. The mechanic replaced the master cylinder, and still had no breaks, come to find out after calling kia they said it was the (hecu) unit.they are saying it will cost around 1500.00 to replace this.i have never heard of nothing more ridiculous.the car is still drivable. The passenger side doors are bent-up some, but they open and close just fine don't look good but its still drivable. I think kia should replace this (hecu) because its a factory defect.

The brake lamp switch continues to be faulty.in some cases the brake lights do not illuminate at all and other times the brake lights remain on and drain the battery.this occurs while driving or stationary.(this has been a recall and fixed 4 times and continues to occur).

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, when he had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard in order to stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light illuminated. The contact stated he continued to drive the vehicle to his destination. The vehicle was taken to local dealer (kia of vero beach located at 1105 s, us-1, vero beach, fl 32962, (772) 291-0624) to have nhtsa campaign number: 20v088000 ( electrical system, service brakes, hydraulic) performed and were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was then taken to independent mechanic and was informed that the abs control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure.the failure mileage was unknown.

The contact stated while she driving 45 mph the brake system locked failed to engage without warning and caused the gear shift to fail. The contact was unable to shift gears. The contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the emergency lane. The vehicle was towed to the contacts home. The failure and current mileage was 71,885. Updated 6/10/14according to the invoice the brake fluid was contaminated and the master cylinder was not holding pressure. Updated 07/24/24

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. While driving approximately 55 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard while attempting to stop the vehicle.

The contact was driving 35 mph when the vehicle began to shake abnormally with the illumination of the esc and the check engine warning lights.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who inspected the vehicle and informed her that the brake switch and throttle position sensor would need replacing. The manufacturer was notified who stated there were no recalls for the vehicle and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 70,436.

This is the second time in about two years i have had warped rotors on the front brakes on my kia.this problem have could be dangerous for the inexperienced driver and or deadly for the inattentive driver. When applying brakes the front wheels wobble at speeds above 45 when apply brakes.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.when the steering wheel was turned, the contact heard a popping noise coming from the front end of the vehicle.the dealer aligned the front end of the vehicle and repaired a casting cam underneath the front end; however, the failure still persists.the failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 10,100.

The right rear passenger door will not open from the inside or outside. I have made every attempt to open the door short of cutting the interior panel. This is a major safety issue not mention a major inconvenience. While researching this issue on the internet i found that this locking door issue seems to be a serious problem with many owners and several kia models covering years from 2004 to 2011. There were third party reports of a class action lawsuit. The issue with my vehicle occurred after returning to our vehicle after shopping at lowe's. The door worked when we arrived at the store. We had opened the door to retrieve an item to return to the store. I would also like to note that i have had to have the drivers door and front passenger door latches repaired for a similar problem where they would not open from the outside due to a plastic part breaking. It happened a third time on the drivers door a couple of years ago and i fixed it with my own, stronger home made parts. I have a 1972 chevelle and a 1967 camaro and those, original, door latches work flawlessly. There is no excuse for this!

My daughter was on her way to work, she was coming to a stop at the end of the road and had no brakes and she continued on across the road went up the bank across the road and when she reached the top it began sliding down and ended up laying on the passenger side. The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. The contact stated that when trying to open the driver's side rear passenger door, the handle fractured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. After diagnosis, they advised her that the door handle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Approximately three months later, the other three door handles failed. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. The current mileage was approximately 91,000.

Have a 2007 new sedona from kia.it comes with a key remote that closes the two back passenger doors.these sliding doors do not stop until it detects a strong resistance against it which makes it very unsafe for children.my child got her arm caught in the door for a brief second leaving a nice bruise.luckily she pulled her arm out before it closed all the way.when i called smithtown kia in ny, they told me that they do not have sensors and it will stop when there is enough resistance against it.this is unacceptable and a huge safety problem.imagine if a child does not get their arm caught, but their head?please advise on what can be done with this.thanks.

This 2007 kia sorento has a driveline vibration since purchased on 1/31/07. The vibration starts at 65 mph and goes away at 73 mph. Brought it back to the dealer and they balanced the tires but the vibration is still there.

This morning i was in a city street had just left home and turn on the front defogger, after 2-3 min. I noticed some smoke and smelled something burning. Then i heard a crackling sound. I looked around and didnt know what was burning. I then turned around to head back home. There was no one else on the road. I then turned off the defogger and noticed the cracking sound was my windshield had cracked from the bottom left side above where the vin # is located. Now im afraid that my truck will catch on fire if i turn on the front defogger. So, i wondering if you have received any complaints regarding the defogger.

I tried to contact the manufacturer to fix the recall but they have told me multiple times they do not have the part to replace or fix.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle with her foot on the brake, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into another vehicle in the driveway. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who would inspect the failure. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that a representative would return his call. The failure mileage was 60,456.

The speed sensor located inside the transmission malfunctioning which means i have to start by shifting 1 and second gear then when the vehicle reaches 40 in will go into 3rd and the d lights up...i will only have 4th gear no 5th so the engine is at 3000 rpms at highway speeds! it uses more fuel and oil!been driving it this way for 3 years now!

Esc and check engine light comes onmy 07 kia sorento and loses power. This is a safety concern when driving on freeway speeds. I experienced this for the third time since owning the vehicle. Dealer repaired the throttle positioner two times and now for the third time, dealer will charge you if mileage is +60k. I believe this is a defect that kia is trying to be mum about it. There are plenty of consumers on the kia forum expressing disgust about the problem and the safety implications that can happen. I demand an investigation on this matter.

When i press on the accelerator to increase my speed (like when merging, for instance), the car reacts as if i put it in neutral.it stops all forward motion for at least a second.sometimes as long as five seconds.this has almost resulted in being hit from behind or the side several times.i have had it into the dealership several times, and have taken their mechanics for demonstration rides several times.i've even contacted their home office.each time the answer is the same, "we can't find anything wrong.it must be you."i fully expect to be involved in a collision in the future caused by this dangerous defect.i can't afford to buy a new car, so i'm stuck with it.i hope you can help.

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento.

I bought my 2007 kia sorento in october 2007, and i have had it into the shop more times then i can count for a violent jerking, stuttering, stalling.each time i take it in the service department drives it and tells me they can't find anything wrong with it.i had it in a couple of weeks ago and they adjusted the air intake valve which helped but did not solve the problem.if they can't fix it soon it will be pushed off a cliff....

The contact owns a 2007 kia sorento. While at a stop, the defroster was activated but failed to function. The vehicle was taken to both a dealer and an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the heater coil needed to be replaced. The mechanic repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Warp rotors on vehicle occurs every 3000 - 6000 miles of driving car. Consequence: car wheels vibrate heavily when attempting to stop vehicle part were turned and then replaced and problem continues to recur.
