I was driving from daughter bus stop after leaving the hospital and it just was shaking or felt funny then brake light and battery light came on andtook to parking lot called mechanic told me crank shaft was broke reported to kia as well.
I was traveling north on white bridge road in westnashville when a car ran a stop sign hitting me on the passenger side, which totaled my car the impact was so hard that it knocked the car several feet facing the opposite direction. The air bags did not deploy during the crash neither driver or passenger side.
Passenger side air bags are intermitent.
When someone sits in the passenger seat, the sensor does not detect passenger. The lightstays in the off position and the air bag light in the dashboard will not cut off.
There is a problem with the ocs system. Airbag light is on. I believe the ocs system is broken, had a similar problem with my 2007 kia rio that had a recall for the same part.
The airbag light is shows up on the board of the car need to know was going on with the car
We had issues from the beginning with a fire in the center console of our pre-owned kia.then we noticed the light for the passenger side air bags was intermittent on picking up whether there was a passenger in the seat.our clock would go in and out on the lighting especially over bumps.then we were rear ended on the highway.no air bags went off.the seat belt did not engage and hold either me or my husband back.then when i fell back against the seat the seat did not stay in place and i fell backwards.i went to the hospital for muscle spasms.the vehicle is being repaired for the physical damage and then will be brought to the dealership.
When someone sits in the passenger seat the air bag light used to turn off, now when they sit in the seat the light stays on and the air bag is off and i have an air bag light on in my dash.took the vehicle to my mechanic and his software shows a recall but kia says no recall on my vehicle.his software says restraints and safety system: recalls campaign - seat occupant classification system reflash.i feel this is a safety hazard if i was to get into an accident and someone was in the passenger seat and the air bag does not deploy.
I purchased this 2005 kia sorento and on my way home there was a knock before i lost my sterring and brakes. Luckily i slowed down when i heard the sound. I got the car home safelybeing only a half a mile away. Called the dealer i purchased the kia from and he came and got it to repair it. He bought the updated so call bolt that was suppose to fix the issue with the crank shaft bolt. Then i got the car back and had the gas tank leaking from the seams. He fix and replaced that. Just the other night on my way to work and i lost my sterring and brakes again..i travel on main roads but there is a lot of amish here and thank god i wasn't going around any of there buggy and hurt those people or myself..there is no fix what so ever for this issue and someone needs to make kia stand up and take responsibility for this faulty defect before a innocent child or womanor husband gets killed.
Passenger air bag seat matt faulty. Passenger airbag does not come on.
My 2005 kia sorento hydroplaned . Thesuv flipped over 3 times and hit an concrete wall. My airbags and seatbelt failed to secure me . Kia says that my car does not have roll over airbags that they are not responsible for my injuries. I feel that kia should own up to the poorly made suv that they design .
On 4/30/08 my kia sorento was hit from behind on the interstate. We were pushed into the car ahead of us who also hit the car ahead of them. We were on an extended on ramp so i estimate our speed was 35 mph.as the traffic ahead of us began to stop quickly i applied my brakes, therefore the exact rate of speed at the time of impact is unknown.however we hit car enough that my daughters lid covered soft drink hit the dash.neither of my cars front air bags deployed.my car sustained major rear and front and driver side damage.the car was totaled.our seat belts did hold us in.however i received bruising from the seat beltin the check and waist area as weak as an injury to my right knee where it hit the lower dash area.
Interior electrical lighting turns itself off and on.headlights will occasionally shut themselves off.lights regularly burn out/need replacing every 45-90 days.dash lights haven't worked in over a year - fuse regularly blows, gave up on replacing it.
Passenger seat sensor failed, vehicle is otherwise in perfect condition. The repair is almost 2000.00. With this repair needed the vehicle won't pass inspection, so what is otherwise a perfectly fine vehicle is now scrap. The passenger seat was hardly used ( maybe 20% of the vehicle use ) so a failure of an expensive occupancy sensor like this is not acceptable.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While operating the vehicle, the front passenger side air bag sensor illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the floor mat sensor was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 123,000.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that there was a recurring defect on the air bag sensor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer in 2005 for a recall on the air bag sensor which was replaced; yet, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that she would be responsible for the repair cost. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would contact the regional manager and follow up withher. The failure mileage was 119,000.
While heading east during a snow storm, collided with a snow plow.the kia sorento was totaled beyond repair.impact was at drivers side door.destroyed front of vehicle, rear door and ripper part of roof open, driver hit face on side window causing bleeding on brain.was hospatized for 3 days.not one air bag was deployed.not front nor side air bags.notified kia corp.sent pictures and report.said they didnt think it was the fault of kia.
The clock did not work properly, there was a noise while the vehicle was cold or starting cold while turning right or backing and pulling forward and a shudder feeling was in the brake pedal.there was a supposed service bulletin in reference to the abs/brake pedal.on four occasions, the passenger air bag sensor dash light did not engage properly with three different people with different height a weight, the power steering failed, the dash display failed to light up when the passengers did not havetheir seat belts on, noise in the steering had worsened since the power steering pump replacement, there was a whining and or whistling sound coming from the front brakes on the right side or in the axle as the wheel was being turned, and the power steering failed again.*sc
Dt: caller states her sonhad an accident and none of the air bags deployed.
I just bought this car few months ago as a used car, whenever i start the car , passenger and driver air bags lights is always on. I went to kia service center to address the problem, they told meit's not included on a recall list, i even showed them a paper which stated a group recall sc076. And also read on a kia forum that that there is another recall which is sc045, stating a group recall also. Kia must do something about it because it's matter of life & death if they do not fix this problem.
Seat sensor on my kia sorento for the airbag light does not work. When a passenger sets in the front passenger seat the airbag off light stays on. You put the vehicle in gear, you drive and the light stays on. City or highway travel, the light stays on all the time indicating the passenger airbag if off.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact was driving on an icy roadway and crashed into a guard rail. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact and a passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. A police report was not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Passenger air bag light is on indicating the air bag does not work. I took it back to kia twice. They stated kia knows of the problem, but doesn't have a fix. They said the air bag will "probably deploy" in an accident.
The driver noticed on numerous occasions while the vehicle was moving or parked.the passenger front side air bag light would appeared on the dashboard and remain on.the driver drove to the dealer. The mechanic informed the driver that the problem can not be duplicated and the vehicle is operating as designed.the driver informed the mechanic that this problem occurs more than once and has not been resolved.please fill in additional information.
Driving across a 4 lane expressway, barely made it across, the vehicle sputters and comes to a stop after fighting with the power steering losing all control.crankshaft pulley has damaged the engine so severe, that a new engine was put in at our expense ($5,000), gas tank was discovered to have a hole and leaking gas. Air bag light comes on and off just depends on it's mood, the display on the radio, etc. Goes away in cold weather, and now have a constant thump thump when driving as if the tire is flat.driving for 5 months with new engine, i pressed on the accelerator quickly to pass a truck when a loud noise (sounding like the engine blew) from the engine was heard then something comes loose and hits the undercarriage so hard i can feel it through the floorboard.no smoke, no elevation in temperature.pull over, there is now a vibration when idling but cannot see anything obvious missing.whatever it was took chunks out of the right front tire. Brakes seemed to lock up at times and you could feel something like a pump losing air and the car slides just before the complete stop with a low groaning noise.haven't took to the mechanic yet, but will be soon.
Dt:2005 kia sorento.the airbag light stayed on.they have replaced the seat, t and sent the seat off to have the sensor replaced.the dealership said there was nothing else they could do.the check engine light came on and the vehicle stalled.this happened twice in one day.the vehicle will restart after waiting a while.also, the clockhad to be replaced twice.
2005 kia sorento ex developed problems with the power steering.***no answer required***. *mrwithin a few days of owning the vehicle, the consumer noticed the clock was not working properly, there was a noise while the vehicle was cold, while turning right or backing and pulling forward, a shudder in the brake pedal, a cut in the leather passenger seat. On 4 occasions the passenger air bag sensor light dash light did not engage properly with 3 different people of different weights/heights were sitting in the seat.the power steering failed 3 times. The consumer was told the shudder in the brake pedal was normal and was a part of the abs.
Dt:contact states the airbag light illuminated, the service dealer said the airbag system needed to be reprogrammed.an engineer will not be at the local service dealer to reprogram the system until about 6 weeks.
I just bought a brand new 2005 kia sorento last week (march 18, 2005.) i love the car, but it has an automatic shut off on the passenger air bag that continues to malfunction. It is supposed to stay off unless a passenger weiging more than 40 pounds is sitting in the seat. My husband (200 lbs. +) and my father in law (180 lbs. +) have sat in the seat while i am driving and the air bag will not turn on. I mentioned it to my local dealership and they told me that they have had several complaints of the same thing. They have supposidly checked the sensor system and it is "functioning properly." i have never been in a wreck, but if i am ever in one where my passenger is seriously injured because the air bag malfunctions, i will never forgive myself. Please look into this. Thank you.
Dt : the contact"s wife was going approximately 65 to 70 mph whenvehicle collided with a deer . This was a frontal left corner andside impact. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to a dealership. The vehicle is still under warranty.
On 4/30/08 my kia sorento was hit from behind on the interstate. We were pushed into the car ahead of us who also hit the car ahead of them. My new kia sorento has "advanced airbags" and the "passenger side airbag off" indicator is frequently illuminated even with an adult properly secured in the front passenger seat. I have had it back to the dealership twice and they have indicated both times that the problem won't happen with them. I have been unable to confirm whether the airbag will actuallywork when this light is on.
The 2005 kia sorento added a front passenger weight detection system to automatically arm or disarm the front passenger air bag for lighter weight individuals.this detector and/or related equipment operates irradically and ineffectively, leaving the users regularly uncertain regarding the status of the air bag system.this is a systemic problem known to kia but no schedule exists for a fix.
Front passenger airbag is de-activated when the front seat is occupied by an adult. It should only de-activate if it senses no passenger seated.
I purchased a new 2005 kia sorento in july. While sitting in the passenger seat i would notice that the passenger airbag sensor was not detecting me thus leaving the airbag off. I made an appointment with the dealer to find the problem. I was told it is a manufacturing problem and the seat must be removed, sent back to the manufacturer and be reprogrammed. It does not sense larger size people as the people of korea are smaller and the sensors are designed for them. I was not notified of this defect until i brought the car to them. They did not feel it was a safety issue.
Front passenger air bag light does not work properly.it senses passenger less than 50% of the time.even getting out and restarting the car will not fix this.took car to dealer and couldn't find anything wrong.i asked about recall/bulletin and they said there wasn't one but i had received something in the mail about a year ago.this is for 2005 kia sorento sport.
- the contact stated thatthe2005 kia sorento lx, had problems with the passenger air bag sensor light malfunctioning.on occasion when in the passengerwas seated in the front seatthe airbag sensor light did notturn off.the contacttookthe vehicle to the dealership on 3 occasions.the dealershipchanged the seat sensor three times ,andtookthe seat out to have it shipped to california to reprogram the seat sensor.the contact stated that the dealershipinformed her that sometimes she may have to get out ofthe vehicle and get back into the vehicle in order for the sensor light to work properly.she had an arbitration case dated for 03/01/07, with case # kia 0732574, for the complaint filed with the better business bureau regarding the passenger air bag.the contact has picturesand repair orders available, will submit them to nhtsa.the failure mileage was 4500, and the current mileage was 13000.
Dt: thepassenger seat has a sensor which turns off the air bag for passengers under a certain weight.the air bag remained off although and adult over the weight target weight was sitting in the seat.the dealer claimed that the sensor was over sensitive, the manufacturer says they do not have a problem.

The air bag light appeared on the dashboard and remained on while driving.driver took vehicle to the dealer, andmechanic determined that the sensor needed to be replaced.the consumer was told by the dealer that he can not lean back in the seat or lean against the window.the consumer stated that the passenger air bag light comes on when someone over 50 pounds is in the seat. The consumer concerned about safety.*tc
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento.the contact stated that the vehicle has been in and out of the shop since the time of purchase.the entire passenger seat was removed and worked on six times for the air bag sensor.the mechanic could not duplicate the failure.gm stated that they cannot help unless they witness the failure for themselves.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage is 19,500 and failure mileage was 5,500.
The passenger airbag light is on.when i am in the passenger seat the airbag indicator says "passenger airbag off".i weigh about 120 lbs.when my fiance is in the passenger seat the airbag is on.he weighs about 150 lbs.we took the car to the dealership for an oil change and told them about this problem.they said that i am probably sitting wrong.i cannot accept this.
Dt*: the contact stated the air bag indicator displayed air bag - off for the passenger's seat, although a passenger was sitting in the seat. Several people at various weights have sat in the seat as an attempt for the indicator light to go off, without success.
The "passenger airbag off" light remain liteven with an adult in the passenger seat.i have only owned the 2005 kia sorento ex for 2 days and everytime a passenger is in the seat they must try to reposition themselves and then you turn off the ignition and restartthe engine before light will go off.i have seen this issue posted on some kia discussion forums and so far dealers have no answer to the problem.
The air bag sensor on the passenger side did not function when a someone satin the seat. This could be unsafe if the vehicle were to be involved in an accident. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer for about 15 times for repairs, but the problem recurred.
Truck has a manufacturer defect (among many) as stated in service bulletins 2004-2014 that causes alternator radio frequencies to interference with transmission signaling thus shutting off or interrupting shift signaling due to inadequate shielding of transmission to tcm cable. This causes the truck to cut out between 3rd and 4th gear consistently when ascending or descending steep mountain passes at high altitude. As there was no advance warning of failure of shift kit to downshift, brakes had to be used on icy roads to slow an underpowered/overweighted truck. This is a very dangerous issue requiring expert driving skills to navigate and should have been addressed, but was not, by kia motors as a refund of purchase price and recall of trucks.the files regarding this problem and other problems with this vehicle are so vast they would crash your system. I have them if needed and can provide hard copies as the stack is about 3 inches deep and spans 11 years. I have 2 key factors thatare also factors here. !. I am the daughter of a race car driver and skilled at navigating car issues. 2. I have been very ill for a decade and unable to work so have been caught in the refusal of kia to address the issues with this vehicle as i am unable to sell the car. I would feel it unconscionable to pass these issues on to another less capable driver. Needless to say it has been enormous stress to own this defective car and stress to try to get kia motors to step up to the responsibility of their warranties, and customer satisfaction guarantees in spite of the problems being apparent almost from point of sale.
I constantly have to change tail lights and head lights on my vehicle. Every 4/5 months they are going out. Also the interior light above in the back seating area does not come on when the doors are open, only if manually pressed on and off. The light behind the panel controlling the heat/air temperatures is no longer functional. No one else seems to change their lights as frequently as i do, if at all since they've had their cars. It seems to be an issue with the electrical system.
We have a constant issue with the interior ligts and exterior lights are turning on and off without notice.this is happening while driving down the road and has happened on 10 separate occassions in the last two months, the las occasion being august 6, 2011 at approximately 2:00am.while driving down a major highway here in seattle driving at 50mph the interior and exterior lights both shut down at the same time causing zero visibility.after pulling over and waiting for 10 minutes thelights came back on and i was able to drive ahome without incident. Problem is unknown.
This car is a safety hazard. Headlights/tail lights/dashboard lights burn out within months of replacements.just burned through 5 fuses for the dashboard in one day.dealership will not fix as there has been no recall.google the make and model and you will see many electrical issues and angry owners.have a teen driver in the family and we are afraid to let her even drive this car.please recall this model and make kia own up to their responsibilities!!!!
We were traveling on the freeway at 65 mph when check engine light came on within 2 seconds vehicle lost all power including power brakes and steering.
The vehicle has had several electronic issues. One owner with a garage parked low mileage suv. The driverseat will not move forward. All other adjustments work fine. This issue has happened several times over the years but now seems to be a permanent problem. The interior overhead light does not illuminate when you open the doors, the driver side door open alarm dings for no apparent reason and the brake lights continually burn out.
My 2005 sorento started stalling & shutting down while driving down the hwy at 65 mph (happens at any speed).code comes up for bad crank shaft sensor, this will be the 3rd time in 4 yearsi will have replaced it.this has caused some "close calls" while on the hwy, avoiding other vehicles & nearly being rear ended several times.
My car has broken down 3 times in the last month.i have a 2005 kia sorento with 115,000 miles on it.ever since i bought my car, it has continually had electrical issues such as replacement of the headlights every few months.i have just dealt with it and learned how to replace them myself.one month ago though, my car broke down and i had it towed to my local mechanic.he said it was the alternator and went ahead and replaced it.everything was running smooth when i drove it away but then 2 weeks later, i broke down again (same symptoms occurred from when i broke down the first time - brake & battery light blinks and then the airbag light comes on and boom, no power).brought it to the same mechanic and this time it was the battery that needed replaced so he went ahead and replaced it.just yesterday, 2 weeks after the battery issue, my car broke down again with the same symptoms occurring.i'm still waiting on it to be diagnosed but there is no other explanation than for it to be an electrical issue.suggestions?
I have a 2005 kia sorento that started to shut off while driving on jan 3rd 2009.since then it has happened 4 times.it is random and i am currently in court with kia through the pa lemon law.i wanted to file this complaint so it is on record.
Driving approx 55mph, my lights seemed to dim then my battery and brake light came on. I immediately turned my heater, radio, dashboard lights and lights to low. I continued driving for nothing else seemed to be wrong and was going to pull over when i noticed my power steering also was not working. I was able to get myself to a safe place to stop and put the car in park, it began making an odd sound (thinking a possible belt) it then made a popping sound thinking i broke a serpentine belt, i then turned the engine off and had my mechanic look at it. He said the crankshaft bolt had broken off and was an estimated $3000+ repair. I have also had issues with crankshaft sensor which caused my car to not turn over without a jump. After that was repaired i had to buy a new battery that prior to the winter season tested out to be good. Ihave also been told i need to replace a spark plug which could cost hundreds to replace because of the location. Ihave to replace headlights/taillights more than normal.i have seem to have issues with alignment and have put 2 sets of tires on after noticing abnormal wear on the insides, i've had it aligned twice. I still owe $6100 on a car that i would have to put $3000 into and now have nothing to drive!
We have a constant problem with headlight bulbs. I have tried every available brand at local automotive stores from the least expensive to the most expensive with the same results. They last about 4 months at best.there is a dealer available "fix" which includes a new wiring harness. Kia will not fix this at no cost. There has been 4 times in the last 3 years that the headlight has failed during late night driving. I replaced the blown bulb and within hours the opposite side failed.had both failed at the same time it would be a serious problem.at the dealership (three) they said "yea a lot of people have this issue"my other vehicles bulbs last on average 5 times longer - or more.
This is concerning my 2005 kia sorento that i never got the recall letter for the icv sensor, it just so happen that my check engine light came on and i called them complaining and they made it seem as if they were doing me a favor and said bring it in, it is covered and i discovered on the computer that there was a recall. I then had two headlights blow out and the check engine light was back on and they told me to bring it in and then said that it was an electrical issue but it was covered. My car later would not pick up speed and i called them and told them i could be on the highway accelerating and could not pick up speed , the suv was returned for the throttle sensor. Not more than a month later my suv is sluggish and not picking up speed again and they say bring it in and tells me it is not the same thing but this time it is a sensor in the gas tank that has to be replaced and it is not covered under warranty one person quotes me $395.00 another quotes $595.00 (i will be writing the better business bureau after this). I just feel that there has been so much going on with 2005 kias someone is going to get seriously hurt if these issues are not looked into. It should not take a life or major accident for these issues to be addressed. A truck or trailer could have hit me several times while i was on the highway trying to accelerate and could not pick up speed. I feel that right now they are preying on defects that is due to the manufacturer and passing the cost on to consumers who have purchased these vehicles. I purchased my car in 2006 with only 115 miles on it and it has given me nothing but problems. Kia is being allowed to get away with these tactics because no one is looking over them because sadly those who are purchasing these vehicles with problems do not know where or who to turn to for help on them being cheated and mistreated at the dealerships. I pray that this matter get the long awaited attention it deserves before someone is seriously hurt.
Interior electrical lighting turns itself off and on.headlights will occasionally shut themselves off.lights regularly burn out/need replacing every 45-90 days.dash lights haven't worked in over a year - fuse regularly blows, gave up on replacing it.
Headlight bulbs have gone out at least once a month since i have purchased vehicle used. Have to keep spare bulbs in vehicle in case it happened again at night which i would not be able to drive with my normal headlights ig i had not carried the spare ones in sorento.brake lights have gone out 3 times since i have purchased sorento in march 2012.lighting interior does not work unless you manually push the button from the top of ceiling.door ajar" light came on and started beeping all doors were tightly shut. Was told that the seat belt harness metal part may have caused the drivers door to bend or knock off the diode button.
I've repeatedly had to replace the headlights in this car every couple of months. When one light is replaced, the other side goes out next. This has happened several times for the past several years. I have 189,000 miles on the car now. I don't remember exactly when it started. My driver seat also stopped working. The back goes forward and back, but the base seat doesn't move.
Recently, our 2005 kia sorento began having electrical problems when the headlights are on at night. The interior dash lights including the radio, etc. Will randomly go off and on. Last night, the dome lights came on and began flashing involuntarily. I am concerned with an electrical issue that will lead to further damage. I have been researching recalls on this vehicle, but cannot see that there is one for this issue. I did however see other consumers with the same complaint. We purchased this vehicle brand new in 2005 and other than regular maintenance we have not had any major issues. I thought that i would purchase another kia in the future, but now that i see kia is doing nothing to fix this electrical problem i am reconsidering that decision.
I purchase my 2005 kia sorrento lx new from taylor kia in toledo ohio.also purchased extra warranty for bumper to bumper.a couple months after i had purchase vehicle my headlight started going out i would take it back get it fixed come back home and another one would be out take it back come back to weeks later another headlight would be out.then the headlights &taillights would go out and brake lights would go out this went on with every single light on my vehicle.continue to call taylor kia to have the service then about the sixth time one of my lights went out they told me they would not service my vehicle anymore even though it was completely covered everything on my vehicle from bumper-to-bumper.they also red flag to me on their computer so that i could not have my vehicle service because of this problem with my kia sorrento.at one point i even had the service manager tell me that his service guys were upset with me because i did not give them a good rating when my car was not fixed to jd powers.i got kia corporate involved which did absolutely no good because they said that they would someone someone from california to fix my vehicle and ended up not sending anyone sent a wire harness instead.of course that's did not fix the problem but they would not do anything else to try to find out why all my lights on my vehicles was going out at one time or another.they also told me that my kia was the only one that ever had this problem and they had never heard of this problem before but i could clearly drive down the street see other kia sorrento's with headlights out.then i got online and read about how many kia had the same problem but kia corporate would not do a thing about it and taylor kia would not do anything at that point. Now my car is broke down with the cam sensor and also crank sensor and bolt because of an issue with these kia sorrento's.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 mph, the interior and exterior lighting would sporadically fail. The air conditioner and fan could not be used when the failure would occur. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer advised there was an unknown technical service bulletin in relation to the failure of the wiring harness, but no recalls. The contact attempted to contact the manufacturer but was unsuccessful in doing so. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000 and the current was unknown.
Headlights blowing on a regular basis. Replace headlights four to five times a year possible electrical issue.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento.the contact stated that there was a burning odor of wires present in the vehicle and the headlights failed. In addition, the air conditioner failed and that the four wheel drive would not engage.the failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the compressor failed. The vehicle was repaired.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
I too have now had to replace my head light bulbs and tail light bulbs and have had multiple electrical issues with this car.i have had to have a fuse block replaced because the car was automatically engaging the starter while the engine was running.i have had to replace the clock due to flickering.
On 6-14-2011 i was driving my 2005 kia sorento just turning onto my street when it suddenly lost its power steering and the power brake light was on.i managed to drive it a few feet to my driveway to inspect my car and noticed a big silver bolt-like piece of metal approximately 4" long dangling beneath the radiator and took it inside and called my husband.when he came home he looked at the car and checked online to try and see what may be wrong with itand discovered it may be the crank shaft pulley bolt and called the dealership's service department.the man at the service department felt this was not the case but my husband said that he had was holding the bolt in his hand.nonetheless i scheduled an appointment.the soonest they could get me in was 6-29-2011, 15 days later.i am employed as a physician extender am had to work the weekend (june 18th and 19th), therefore, i had to rent a car for that weekend as we have no weekend public transportation service in our location which cost me $177.00.my car then had to be towed on the morning of 6-28-2011 to the dealership for service on 6-29-2011 at a cost of $65.00.then they were having difficulty honoring my warranty because they could not find my name but i had since married but since it was not changed on the warranty they did not repair the car.i had to contact kia corporate and the person there told me it could take up to 2 weeks to make the change and the car would not and could not be repaired until then and they could only give me a discount on a rental car in the meantime.i had to immediately fax (not email) documentation of sale.i had paid cash for the brand new vehicle at the time.the kia dealership in which i bought the car only keeps sales records for the past 3 years.the corporate person that i was speaking with was not able to correct the information on his end due to a "glitch".they fixed the car and charged me $170.00 additional for repairs not covered by warranty.
Over the last 4 years i have replaced the battery 3 times.each time, the car had been sitting for a day or 2 and when i attempted to use it, the car/battery was dead. I have seen on line that the tccu (transfer case control unit) is probably the culprit and it is almost impossible to identify because the computer will show no history of it.evidently, on rare occasions the computer will begin running diagnostics on the tccu when the car is being shut off.the drain on the system is enough to wipe out the battery.i have contacted kia - they do not acknowledge the problem and all they want to do is run a diagnostics test which will tell them nothing and will cost me more money.the cost of a new tccu is about $1500, probably why kia has no interest in replacing it.
I drove my kia and parked in a grocery parking lot. I came back outside to find my car's engine compartment was totally engulfed in flames. The fire department was actively putting out the flames as i approached. No warning this would occur. Kia has refused to return my calls or emails. Very reliable vehicles (i bought 2 brand new in 2005). Very dangerous, and apparently not an unheard of event with certain kias. Several reports online and in person. Could have been disastrous had i been driving, or parked closer to other vehicles (or any structure).
My kia sorento has electrical problems that cause the interior dash and doom lights to blink off and on. This has been happening for the last fourteen months.the dash lights stay off most of the time now, making it very difficult to monitor my instrument panel at night. I have also had to replace the headlights and tail light a total of six times over the last two plus years. There is also a problem with the heat. The hot air turns cold anytime the vehicle comes to a stop, making it necessary for me to rev the engine to stay warm.this makes a gas guzzler even more wasteful in cold weather. I can get no definitive answers from the dealership for these problems. I'm not an advocate of a lot of government intervention, but someone with authority need to step in and require kia to provide a root cause solution to these issues.
While driving my vehicle, it began making a "knocking" noise. The power steering then began to fail and then i was unable to accelerate. The car died (on a busy 4 lane hwy with my 7 mos old daughter in the car). Once stopped, i looked under my hood to find a large bolt laying on the floor of the interior of the bumper. The vehicle was towed to a local auto repair shop where, after 2 days and $1300 in repairs, i was told that the "large bolt" i found was half of the crank pulley bolt. It had snapped clean in half leaving the other half inside the pulley. Extensive labor to remove this piece and then reset all the pulleys and belts (timing belt) attributed to the excessive cost. I was told that there was no reason why that bolt should have simply broke in half and that it was a faulty part. Kia refuses to take responsibility and i have read several posts that make it clear that this is not the first time it has happened. Electrically, i have had to change my headlight bulbs several times over the last 3 years and the accuator for the automatic door locks is faulty. The car randomly locks itself at any given time (while driving, when sitting in the driveway during the night, parked and running). I stopped in a parking lot to get my daughter's toy that she had dropped. When i got out of the car to walk around to the other side, the car lock defect locked my daughter inside the car while it was running.
Have experienced repeated failure of cam sensor, cam shaft pulley bolt, failure of engine cooling system, failure of clutch assembly and transmission, failure of air conditioning, failure of electrical system for exterior lights.. All issues are as documented by the hundreds and hundreds of complaints by other owners who are waiting for an investigation, a recall, or enough deaths and injuries to receive any assistance of any kind from this organization or the manufacturer.i can not justify spending one more dollar ( $16,000 in the 3 years since purchased for $4,000).to repair this vehicle and it is once again inoperable for the same issues. . no car dealer wants it as a trade in, the standard offer is $300. I cannot sell it to anyone and then face myself in mirror.perhaps a public sake... $1 per minute to anyone who wants to bash a kia (sledgehammer provided). Proceeds will be applied to purchase of replacement vehicle, which will not be a kia.
Headlight and dome bulbs burns out very often, i spend more money replacing bulbs than oil change, obviously there is an electrical problem on this model. Please let them fix this issue.
I have to every 3 -4 months replace the headlights on my 2005 kia sorento.kia has told me because your organization has not issues any type of recall on this i will keep on replacing them.this is insane!!!!!i know that i am not the only owner complaining about this.
Today i took our 05 sorento in for an oil change. It came as no surprise to me that during the 20 point inspection i was told the driver's side headlight didn't work. This is beyond ridiculous at this point. I have already changed burnt out headlights a minimum of 5-7 times now. I can't even keep up with the count. Like many other owners i have tried every make and type of headlight and none of them will last more than a few months. This recent set was the top of the line and i had to pay $80 for the two lights. Still don't last. It seems that kia knows about this issue but is unwilling or too cheap to pay have their issue fixed. I'm not the only owner with this problem. Look it up! the car has operated fine other than this but it has become a hassle and is very costly replacing headlights every few months! this will be the last kia that i buy unless kia steps up and fixes this issue. They have a new wiring harness that can help/fix this problem but of course owners have to pay for this out of pocket. Step up kia or enjoy losing a client from here on out!
I have a 2005 kia sorento. I have had a problem with my headlights since i have had my car which i bought new in 2005. I have taken it to the dealer in valdosta ga several times to find out about it and they always say it's not a recall so they can't do anything about it. I have to replace headlights and taillights every 3 or 4 months. It is very expensive. My dome light hasn't worked in years and my check engine light stays on all the time. I know there is some kind of defect in the electrical system and it's been this way from the beginning. The 10 year/100,000.00 mile warranty is about useless with this car. There has not been one thing since i have had the car that was covered under warranty. I will never buy a kia again and i certainly want ever use kia in valdosta ga again, they have the worst service i have ever seen. There favorite thing to say is "it's not covered under our warranty!" that is supposedly there big selling point and it is worthless! everyone who is having the same trouble needs to complain so we can get this recalled and fixed. I wish i knew where to complain to that could make that happen. They don't really care in valdosta whether you complain or not, there not going to do anything about it anyway.well i have been stopped numerous times by the police for my lights being out. So far i have not got a ticket, but it is highly dangerous to have no lights while driving at night and you never know when they are going to be out.i know i am not the only one having this problem, i have well over 100 emails from repair pal about others having headlight problems. This needs to be recalled before someone is killed in an accident and then sue the kia company.sick of buying headlights!
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated was driving uphill when the throttle failed to engage. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the wiring into the transmission was overheating and causing the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired.the failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.
Own a 2005 kia sorento.we have a continuous problem with the lights burning out.this includes the headlights, brake lights, park lights, and fog lights.these lights burn out about every 3 to 4 months.now the power seat has stopped moving forward or back.the driver's side power seat will not move forward or backward.a shorter person that my wife moved her car and she adjusted the seats.when my wife got into the car she was unable to put the seat in the original position.i have tried to jockey the switch back and forth and up and down and the seat will not move.
All of a sudden the kia ignition wont engage the starter ,the headlights wont work and the speed odometer moving and the acappears not to work.
Headlights, brake light, interior light, radio, have all failed multiple times.i replace headlights and break lights every three months. I have had both headlights go out, one before i could get the other fixed.none of the dome lights work, i have no automatic lighting in the car.they dim based on weather and the terrain i am driving on.the radio went out shortly after i bought it, and the same thing happened shortly after. Sometimes it works and sometimes the car has to be running for a while before it will work.so many problems.
On 7/30/14 i noticed my dashboard lights were not working.the morning of 7/31/14 the lights still were not working so i checked the fuse boxes.i found a blown fuse in the fuse box under the hood and replaced it.the dashboard lights still would not work.the evening of 7/31/14 i again checked the fuses and found the fuse i had just replaced in the morning was again blown.i replaced the fuse and had my husband stand at the front of the vehicle while i turned the ignition and headlight switch on.immediately upon turning on the headlight switch we heard a "pop," checked the fuse and it had once again blown.we tried a third fuse and it blew as well as soon as i turned on the headlight switch.three fuses in one day and still no answer on how to get my dashboard lights to work.
Vehicle has had continual premature light bulb burnouts of all exterior lamps, headlights, tail lights and stop lights. This happens every 1-2 months.
I bought my kia new it has sports package , i have had to replain shop all the time ce headlights 4 times the last 6 months it has been total mess power steering pressure hoses blew out then in may went to air port picked up daughter car was nothing no start tow truck ..auto shop first said plug in reader said crank shaft sensor then it said starter bad so replaced starter it starts but it now whines i took it back he said it is the starter brand . I am always worried if it will start and if i have lights i love my kia but it has had electric problems from day1 kia should recall 2005 due to this . Last night i was driving and it went from reg drive to low it has shifter it has button that has to be pushed in to change drive over drive low i never pushed it it did it on its own there is a big problem wish kia would step up and recall i want to keepmy car it is well taken car of but i cant keep pouring money in it big $ last 6 months over 2500 is there a way to do law suit i have seen tons pep with headlights issues sents ireplaced my first ones also paint on doors open all gone i never even use back seat doors so how is it coming off is there a lawyer out here who oiwns a kia help......
Driving approximately 55mph 22 nov 2013, heard a thump from engine compartment, and lost all power to vehicle, ending up in a ditch.engine stopped, no steering, no brakes.dash lights illuminated.vehicle would not re-start.crank pulley bolt broke off.over 5 hours to extract remainder of bolt to repair engine.$1359 in repairs.now, 22 sept 2014, 10 months later, had same happen on highway at 70mph in heavy traffic.thankful i was in a lane at the edge of the roadway.current mileage slightly under 114,000.yeah.10 months and 13000 miles and another huge repair bill.no recall, kia claims no liability.other issue:interior lighting turns itself off and on at whim.headlights burn out every 45-90 days.
I was turning onto a street and heard a big clunk only to find out the bolt on the crankshaft broke off again on 10/29/15 as well as 7/30/13. The power steering went out & battery light came on. Lost power and everything after a big clunk! this happens all the time: there are a multitude of these same complaints: this engine was replaced in may 2010 and the harmonic balancer and pulley have been worked on twice since 2010. There is a defective bolt that was replaced with a new defective bolt. This is happening numerous times to many kia sorento owners and they are left stranded. Kia knows about it and refuses to do anything! my car is sitting at country kia in charleston, sc because the extended- warranty will not cover this defective bolt and i can't pay $5000.00 on a car that is now only worth $3000.00. I had to stay in charleston, sc an extra 2 days at my expense $79.00 /night, pay $75.00 for the tow bill and an additional $55 or $65 for the kia dealership to check it out. I had to rent a car to come back to fl as i was stranded in charleston without transportation. I cannot afford the $5000.00 for repairs and the $1500.00 to pay it off just to get the title to send this to a junk yard. The mileage just turned to 107,000 or 108,000. This is the 4th time that there was an issue on this part of this car having to do with the same issues related to this defective bolt, harmonic balancer and pulley as a result of this defective bolt. (this is only on one car). You will see how many times this is occurring to many other owners of these kia sorentos. Please read through the complaints on the following link:http://gotaclassaction.com/kia-named-in-class-action-over-first-generation-2002-2009-equipped-with-a-hyundai-manufactured-3-5l-24-valve-dohc-v6-engine/
Everything from interior lights, radio, clock, door locks and headlights burning out have been a problem.while driving and the interior lights just come on.headlights burn out every 6 months.everything else works when it wants. I took kia to court to get a equal trade but only got $9,000.had to give $3,500 to the lawyers.the other $5,500 was not even enough to cover a trade in because the kias have a terrible value for trades.ended up spending more than half trying to have it repaired, still nothing.kia knows there is a problem but will not address it.even the several service managers (off the record) that i spoke with through my horrific experience told me that it's a huge problem and they don't want to do anything because of the cost.

The doors to his vehicle will not lock with the keys in the ignition. The key was locked in the ignition.the consumer stated the problem seems to happen after driving in extreme heat. 11/15/2005
Our 2005 kia sorento has been in the shop for over 185 days due to front, rear, brake and running light issue. The brake lights go out every two or three weeks and the other on a monthly basis. The throttle control along with the transmission and radio have been repaired at least five times each and good motor company of rockhill south carolina cant seem to find anything that would cause the problem. Kia motors is no help and cant seem to put two and two together to see the other 20 complaints with the same problems. I'm stuck with a 10 year warranty on a lemon.
2005 kia sorento. Consumer writes in regards to defroster switch malfunction *tgwthe consumer stated the vehicle would not start.the mechanic stated the dash wiring had melted and the relay for the front windshield defroster was stuck in the open position.

In september 2012, traveling at 35mph my kia came to a stop. At first glance it was determined the drive belts had unfastened and the cam shaft bolt was laying on the engine pan. After inspection at kia service shop the specialist identified that the cam shaft bolt had sheered off due to the defective part: cam shaft sprocket-c, part # 23120-35701 cost $60.00. The final suggestion was to replace the bolt set, sprocket, crank angle sensor, damper pulley, auto tensioner and all drive belts a total of $2,000 repair cost. In 2014, the cost repair is now 4,000 to replace the engine because of the same exact issue but traveling over 40mpg causing more damage.the main cause of this defect derives from the small pin attached to the sprocket that turns the harmonic balancer and grinds the steel with the force of the engine into nothing. The result of this defect causes the harmonic balancer to come lose, shearing off the crank bolt first, then if traveling at low speed will follow with the repair above, however if at high speed will result in engine damage in the valves making it necessary to replace the engine at a cost of $4,000.you may refer to the following resources for more information:the kia sorento engine defect class action lawsuit case is robinson el al v. The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving approximately 30 mph, the power steering failed without warning and the vehicle became increasingly difficult to control. The dealer stated that the camshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,000.
Had a car repair in october 2014 due to a broken bolt near crank shaft driving down the highway. Paid for repair and got car back and within a month the motor was shot . I went to go start the car to go to work and it was making a terrible noise, it was stationary. I still have at 7 more car payments to make on the car.
Driving on highway rte 24 when crankshaft pulley broke off causing engine and brake lights to come on. It was impossible to control and to steer the vehicle causing me to nearly get into an accident. Subsequently, my vehicle got towed from the highway to a mechanic shop who informed me that my 2005 kia sorento's crankshaft pulley bolt broke off - therefore to buy an engine or junk it. Unfortunately, i owned this vehicle for only 1 year 3 months and with these problems. I don't have any money to replace it right now and i don't know what to do to get to work going forward.
The crankshaft sprocket key (pin) got loose and the sprocket displaced which chewed the timing belt and short-circuited the crankshaft sensor and fuel pump, causing $1946.03 of repair, $213.67 car rental during repair, loss of working time and stress to me with health damage.the total loss is estimated to be $3,000.00 at least.
Vehicle died while driving, then would not crank over. Had towed to dealer. Vehicle was no longer covered by warranty. Dealer replaced cam and crank sensors, timing belt, crank bolt and badly fraying accessory drive belt.
My vehicle was in motion on a highway driving 60 miles per hr to work (30 miles from home) in pouring rain when engine, brake and battery light came on.thank god that i made it to work safely but then only to realize that power steering had locked up.looked under the hood, power steering fluid and brake fluid fine but one belt had came off and the other belt just barely hanging on from the alternator and pulley.thought pulley had locked up but took to a mechanic just 1/2 mile down from my job and he said that my problem is that the crankshaft bolt had broken off inside of the crankshaft.i go online and find that there were a lot more complaints of the same issue with my make and year as well as others.the previous recall by kia was only for 2003-2004 (certain models) not including mine but this seems to be a definite issue so the recall should be extended to other years and models such as mine.thank god that i made it to work safely and now have to find another means to get around since this is my only transportation.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer. The vehicle remained at the dealer for three consecutive months to locate the failure. The cam sensor, crank sensor, and timing belt were replaced. In addition, the ecm computer was replaced. One month later, after the repair was performed, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,300. ..updated02/23/16 ....updated 03/16/16

Driving in rural eastern colorado when the battery and brake warning lights came on. Drove on to the next town with a repair shop (brush, co) and checked under the hood. Belts were loose and the bottom pulley was lying in the bottom of the engine compartment. Had to have it towed 70 miles to the kia dealership in windsor, co ($375). They did the repair and charged $1303.85. Had to rent a car while the repair was completed ($343.57). Harmonic balancer had failed and caused damage to timing belt, tensioner, crank sprocket, etc. Updated 10/9/15 *lnupdated 12/21/2015
While driving down the interstate the car's engine caught fire.melted everything in engine.when told i needed a new engine, i sold the car to a junk yard for parts.now, i hear this recall. So pissed@
Was driving down road with my son when my car started to vibrate and make a horrible noise.the warning lights on the dash turned on and i lost my power steering just as i was turning onto our street.i had the vehicle towed to an auto shop and before they looked at it, the owner told me that it was the crank pulley bolt that sheered off.he said its common in kia suv's of that time period!i was lucky to be on a side street and not a highway going faster because there was no warning to this happening and i could've easily lost control.this defect will eventually cause someone to lose control and become injured or killed.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that when the key was turned to the off position and removed, the vehicle failed to shut off. The contact removed the battery from the vehicle, but the vehicle continued to run. The contact then removed an air mask valve that caused the engine to shut off. The vehicle was unable to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000. Ma 08/05/15updated 11/13/2015
I was driving on the way to work and the car lost power and shut off.... Lost all ability to steer, luckily no other cars were close by. Or else there would have been a crash between us. Had it towed to a local shop. Before looking at the vehicle they immediately told me it sounded like the infamous crank shaft pulley bolt. I was at a loss for word as it sounded like its been an on going issue that needs to be address. Too many peoples lives are and can be in trouble because of it. After the local shop looked at it and confirmed it was the crank shaft pulley bolt. I was advised to talk to the local dealership because there has been a recall of the bolt. When i spoke to the parts rep a kia, i was told there is no recalls on the bolt or anything else 2003-2006 kia serento. They could get me a new/used motor for $4k.... Seems that kia is only in the business of putting money in their pockets while other peoples lives are at stake. For a part/piece they know is faulty. After further investigation there is a countless amount of people with the same issue. Even people covered under the 100,000 mile warranty was told its not apart of the drive drain so its not covered. I would not recommend a kia to anyone...
I was stopped waiting to turn into a fast food place when i let off the brakes to turn in ,the suv took off from 0 to 60 in a split second.when i tried to mash the brakes it wouldn'tgo down and i couldn'tstop.i ended up hitting a tree, the air bags did come out.the suv was totaled.i contacted kia's office and they had the suv towed to a lot for investigation.as of this date i haven't heard form kia as to what they found out.this was the second time the kia took off on it's own with me .i would like this accident off my record and info as to what went wrong with the kia.
Kia had a lawsuit involving the crankshaft bolt. The lawsuit is yvonne robinson vs kia. I bought the vehicle from someone with only 25,000 miles last year 2017. My children were driving back to college on 11 august 2018. The crankshaft bolt broke which causes the vehicle to lose steering. My children were almost in a terrible accident which could have cost them their lives. My sons go to school in atlanta and the crankshaft broke in north carolina. I had my children call our insurance company for roadside assistance and they couldn't fix it obviously because it was the crankshaft bolt. He got them safely to pepboys and they had to spend the night in north carolina and the next day pepboys confirmed it was the crankshaft bolt. I found out there was a lawsuit concerning the crankshaft bolt. Pepboys said it would be $2000 to fix. I called kia on 13 august 18 and they told me they would take care of it and would call in a couple days. They are still giving me the run around. This was something that was involved in a lawsuit and it concerns safety. Please help me hold kia accountable. They know this is a defective product. The vehicle is still in north carolina because i'm waiting to hear back from kia. I'm a retired navy veteran who deserves to be treated fair and not have my loved ones life at risk because of their defective products
The vehicle's power steeringdidn't work, and it was rarely driven after transmission repair at a kia dealer. Looking under the hood showed that the belts weren't moving. The crankshaft pulley was attached but not straight; offset. I called the dealer and they said the crankshaft bolt breaking is a common problem in these vehicles. Is/was there a recall for this? this is a potentially dangerous situation. Luckily the vehicle wasn'tdriven far when the problem was noticed. Ma 10/8
Harmonic balancer is falling off . Have read many reviews where others with the same vehicle and theirs are actually falling off. As well as a lawsuit in february
I own a 2005 kia sorento 4wd lx. After a schedule oil change, the check engine light came on and the computer showed a po300 code. While driving vehicle the vehicle became sluggish and would not accelerate past 50 mph. Thenext day while driving, a loud noise started in the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician stated the crank shaft pulley, ball bearing and cylinders had to be replaced. The tech also saw metal in the oil. The tech basically told me that the engine had to be replace at a cost of $4700.00. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 63,400.
I have a 2005 kia sorento and last august i was coming to a stop at a very busy intersection and my car made a very loud clanking bang sound. My car died, my battery, brake and engine light came on. I turned the key and it started and i was able to get it off the road but my power steering was gone. I had it towed to a garage that said they would not fix it because it was to intense (cost $150), so i had it towed to another. An ase certified chevrolet dealership and they told me it should be covered under my warranty because it was part of the power train and i had less than 60,000 miles on my vehicle- my crankshaft bolt was sheared completely off (no charge). They and i contacted kia, kia had me tow it to them (which is 50 minutes away). They then told me it was not covered, and the part was $10.97, however the work involved to fix it was a lot more extensive and gave me an estimate of $650.00-$750.00! it cost me $650.00 plus all my towing costs ($240.00). I could have saved the towing cost and had the chevrolet dealership fix it since i had to pay for it!now, not even a year later, i bring my sorento to the chevrolet dealer for an oil change and the mechanic asked me to come look at my driver side trailing arm bracket. It is completely rusted and no longer attached and the other side isn't in good shape either. They tell me it will cost hundreds of dollars to fix it and i really should contact kia because this should not have happened. I decided to research this and it appears that both of these issues are common and unsafe. I am waiting to hear back from kia now on how to get this taken care of.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, it was not able to fully accelerate. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the harmonic balancer pulley bolt fractured from the crankshaft. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
The engine caught on fire on sunday february 26 and today march 1st
Broken crank bolt with 100,000 miles.
The kia sorento has a catastrophic failor do to a single pin on the crank shat timing gear. This gear has broken free twice and caused head damage bent valves and also cost between 2 and 4 thousand dollars to replace the 30 dollar gear that will with out question fail again i'm on my third time of this happening this time the timing gear pin grow slowing only the crank shat himonic balancer to come free braking a 10 dollar bolt but with out a doubt it will cost me again thousands to fix . Each time this has happened it has been a differentsituation once was while driving on the high way the vechical made a loud bang and the vechical list power and came to a halt once while pulling out of my drive way this time the engine locked up and the vehicle had tobe towed to a shop only to find out they would not work on it because it is a know defect the third time was driving threw town and it sound like i had dropped a saw mille under the hood it damaged the valves and broke the fans and tore up the most thus time.
As i was driving my 2005 kia sorento at 40mph it started bucking and when you go to accelerate you can hold the pedal to the floor and it does not pick up speed.took it to my mechanic and his software shows a recall for this and kia is saying there is no recall on my vehicle. His software says recalls campaign-sc073 icv replacement.
Engine light came on and had no passing gear when you accelerate. Code p0122 tps.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stopped and shut down without warning. The vehicle did not restart and was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the crankshaft bolt detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not respond to the reimbursement request. The failure mileage was 82,310.
I purchased a 2005 kia sorento in november 2013 from dealership. In june 2014 i had the first incident. While driving on a highway, suddenly all warning lights came on, power steering was lost. I was able to pull over without incident. Had to be towed. Had the problem fixed: crankshaft sensor, warped pulley, sheered bolt on said pulley, resulting in more damage, including water pump and timing belts. Two weeks later the same thing occurred, again while i was driving in town. My mechanic said it is a defect in the kia design. Two weeks later got it fixed. Now ten months later the same problem occurs, again while driving. Each time this has cost me $2,000 to fix. I still owe $4,500 on the vehicle!since repairing with kia parts and the problem is never solved due to poor design, kia really needs to step up and issue recall. Same problem 3 times in less than a year! please help!
Kia sorento 2005, similar crank bolt main pulley assembly break that many, many of the others have all been complaining about and unfortunately been experiencing. This is the third time i had this very same issue repaired for substantial dollars and now my mechanic stated there is not enough thread left into the crankshaft to fix and it needs a completely rebuild or engine replacement - which in all likelihood be less expensive. There should definitely be a recall for this - as so many have the same issue. Thank god my incidents were all at slow speed because this would easily cause a crash because you loose all power steering and control.
On 8/23/2014 my family a i were in chicago we traveled there on friday 8/22/2014 from virginia in the 2005 kia sorento that i just purchased in july 2014 from pearson hyundai.while driving to my family reunion in the forest reserves the vehiclebrake light and other warning lights came on, and a rattle could be heard coming from the engine, the vehicle became hard to steer and the noise from the engine became louder.i stopped the vehicle and had it towed to my familiesmechanic, afterchecking the vehicle it was found to have the pin on the crank gear broken off, and the crank bolt came loose, replaced the sprocket (crank gear), the harmonic balancer, and the bolt.i drove the vehicle back to virginia with no problem, then on october 3, 2014 while my wife was driving in richmond, va the exact same thing happened again, (warning lights, no power steering and rattling from the harmonic balancer, i had the car towed to the kia dealership on friday, they finally got back with me wed, october 8, 2014 and told me that i needed a motor cause the crank shaft is blown, prior to having it towed, i saw that the harmonic balancer was doing the exact same thing it had did in chicago and turning it i can tell that the same pin has came off the sprocket.the kia dealership wants to sell me a used engine, same as the one that is in the kia i have, i am reluctant to pay $5000.00 to replace the engine to have the same problem, that i and after further investigation a lot of kia sorento owners have suffered.
Crank shaft bolt broke three separate times (2nd time jan. 21, 2015; 3rd time july 3, 2015) after repairs made.the last time, the car was considered irreparable due to the inevitability of failure due to faulty design of the factory made crank shaft bolt.whole new engine needed for complete repair.
During my trip home from a local outing i noticed my battery light flashing intermittently. As i got closer to home the light became more steady steering became more difficult. I had a good guess what the problem was due to the fact that i've had this same issue twice in the last eight months. I made it home safely and had my vehicle towed a few days later to a repair shop. I was not at all surprised when the mechanic told me i had a crank shaft problem. This is something kia has known about for years and should have scheduled a recall to repair this issue. I might not be here today if i was traveling on the highway at a faster speed.
I was driving down the highway and all the sudden my car gave a big sound and died. The steering was really hard to steer, luckly i was in the slow lane and coasted off the edge of the road. Had it towed to mechanic the started was bad, along with the fuel line and fuel pump. After got it running once againran fine hour later the crank shaft sensor went out. I have read many many complaints about the same issues, also was told that my fuel tank and bottom was rusting out. And my sway bar is bad. My car shakes, i have had new tires and brakes put on and a new muffler put on. I have had all my oil changes and tune ups. They say there is no recalls, how could there not be recalls here in the usa. They had a class action law suit in canada and kia was made to fixthese same issues.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, an abnormal noise emitted from under the hood and the power steering seized. The contact discovered that none of the belts in the vehicle were moving. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the crank shaft damper, harmonic balancer and the gear needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.
I was driving though a parking lot on late friday afternoon and heard a rattling noise coming from under the hood.so, after i parked i popped the hood, i also started to hear a squeaking noise (belts rubbing), so i drove home and parked it until monday when i took it to a local shop and they said it sounded like a pulley for the timing belt, they got it in on wednesday and called to have me come take a look at what was causing the noises when i got there, they explained that it was the crankshaft bolt that held the fly wheel on and there where two options (1)i could drive it until the bolt snapped or (2) they could try and break the bolt loose and replace it, so we went with option number 2 and after about five hours i got a call telling me that the bolt had snapped and they had tried welding a new bolt on to try and break the rest of it loose, and they had tried to drill out the bolt but with no luck, they then gave me an estimate to replace the engine with a re-manufactured engine the estimate was $6,900.00 before tax, so i called kia corporate and they took a week to come back and tell me due to the age, the mileage, and not the original owner they would not pay to replace the engine so now i'm going to join the class action law suit. Very bad engineering design to think one seer pin could hold that bolt plus it sounds like they are using a deep thread skinny shaft bolt which means the threads are holding a 15-20lbs fly wheel when that seer pin snaps, very disappointed in kia, will never buy their cars again ..updated 08/24/15
My whole family was in the car driving home going approximately 40-45mph when without warning all the dash lights started coming on and all power was lost on the vehicle.we were able to move out of traffic and restart the vehicle and make it home.vehicle was towed to dealer where we were eventually advised the crank shaft bolt shredded into our engine, and that along with some other components would have to be replaced to the tune of over $5000 dollars.we were told that because this was an outside component of the engine that this was not covered under the power train 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. I called their consumer assistance line and was very disappointed with them.this same bolt i was advised was an issue in the 2004 models, but they assured me ours was manufactured outside the faulty bolt dates (tell that to my failed bolt). I was incredibly disappointed with the lack of responsibility they are willing to take to ensure that no one is injured or worse by simply fixing a bolt.we ended up trading in the vehicle and losing a tremendous amount of money in the process.
While driving anoise comes from engine compartment. Battery and brake warning light come on. Power steering goes out. Have to man ahndle suv to a safe spot.crankshaft bolt that hold harmonic balancer broke. Common problem known to kia enginesthey offer to fix it for $1300.00 plus more.
First incident-on august 16, 2014 while on vacation and driving from virginia to chicago ill, the vehicle start making a rattling noise coming from the front of the vehicle and warning lights came on the dash (battery, brake) and the power steering went out making the vehicle very hard to maneuver, i immediately pulled over into a fast food parking lot to check the noise and found that the harmonic balancer was loose and belts were not turning, i had the vehicle towed to a mechanic after inspection i was informed that the crank shaft gear pin had broke off to the harmonic balancer. I purchase the parts (harmonic balancer, bolt and crank shaft gear) and had the mechanic repair the vehicle and drove back to virginia.second incident-october 2014 while my wife was driving the vehicle, she encountered the same problems the warning lights, rattling in the front of vehicle, power steering locked unable to turn vehicle, i inspected the vehicle and saw that the harmonic balancer was loose and belts were not turning, the pin in the crank shaft gear has broken again, i had the vehicle towed to the kia dealership in richmond, and they stated that i needed a new motor.after investigating complaints about this vehicle on line i found out that this problem is well documented with this make and year vehicle.if i or my wife had been on the highway at the time of this fault it could have been catastrophic. I also found that their is a class action suit against kia motors addressing the exact same fault.(civil action no. 13-006 united states district court, district of new jersey)essentially, plaintiffs claimed their vehicles were designed with a ?defective crankshaft pulley bold and balancer,? which could result in ?breaking off the spring guide pin,? causing ?catastrophic engine failure.? this vehicle isunsafe, a recall is warranted and kia motors needs to correct the defect.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician stated the crank shaft pulley had to be replaced. After the part was replaced on the crank shaft pulley, the contact heard a grinding noise in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
I have a 2005 kia sorento and it has 123000 miles. I was driving with my wife and i lost control of the steering, brakes and the engine shut down. I had it towed to my repair center and they told me that my engine was blown and i would need a new engine. The crank shaft bolt snapped and it was a defect in the manufacturing process but kia is not taking responsibility for this matter. Kia is claiming that there was a service document regarding this but no recall notice was ever sent out to the owners of this model car. Kia is trying to wash their hands of this problem. I have spoken to many people and they are saying that even though they have the extended warranty that kia wants nothing to do with the issue and are refusing to repair this defect. I have filed a class action suite against kia but they are trying to have this case thrown out of court refusing to fix to issue.
From the time i got the car head lights have repeatedly burned out after a month or two, also dash lights go off randomlyand flicker and then come back on when ever they decide,my power steering went out, brake light came on and a/c went out all at once.started to overheat, so it was determined the serpentinre belt had broke, replaced belt and vibration under hood was noticeable but could not determine the source., but somewhere under the hood. Still replacing headlights every couple months, then power steering fluid started to be consumed and constantlyt required adding fluid, then had a mechanic check for leak and he replaced some hoses and clamps but vibratiion continued and eventually power steering began loud noise when car started and only when reved up would noise stop, and when a/c was on sometimes would effect the power steering noise. Replaced the powersteering pump, still the noise continued and recently the belt came off while i was driving and brake light came on , i was able to get safely off the road and didnt cause an acciedent, but very close call, belt had come off but after minor adjustment it was put back on, vibration noise has become worse, i am affraid to drive it, mechanic lookedat it and said harmonic balance seems to be off and root of problem is crank shaft bolt most likely , common problem , however during the time in kia dealership for other recall issues , crank bolt was never brought to my attention as being a problem in my year or model car, non it turns out it is a major problem and legal action has been taken by class action suit dealing with same issue.
Daughter had cranked vehicle after coming into grandmother's after her wedding getting food. She said the steering was working properly and the motor seemed to be having alot of problems so i told her to park it and not to drive it again that i would have it towed to be looked at.my nephew looked at it said it seemed to be the bolt coming out of harmonic balancer.i bought it used but it was purchased at kia in huntersville,n.c. From the person i purchased it from. After taking it back there to be looked at they did unauthorized work breaking the bolt off then telling me i had to be the one to replace the motor. I even went to kia in gastonia,n.c. They didn't seemed to be concerned at all and said they would not even take it as a trade in so i started doing research as to any problems with this particular vehicle.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact statedwhile driving 10 mph, the vehicle started shaking violently and making a loud noise without any warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the harmonic balancer was not properly attached to the crank shaft causing the bolt to brake. As a result, the harmonic balancer and bolt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred twice. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 87,000.
I recently had to have the crank shaft sensor replaced on my 2005 kia sorento.this morning, driving my young son to school, i lost the steering on my vehicle.additionally, the engine light and brake light came on.as i understand it, this is an ongoing defective issue with kia's.this is a dangerous problem for the public as well as consumers.
While leaving our home to run errands, i lost power steering and several dashboard lights came on.we purchased the kia sorento in 2005 new and have had very few problems with it until now.it has less than 70k miles and has been serviced by the dealer every 3k miles.i had the vehicle towed to the dealer, who rather quickly diagnosed the problem as a broken crank bolt and estimated repairs would cost about $1300.the dealer checked with kia on whether our 100k warranty would cover the repairs.kia said this problem was not covered.at the time i didn't realize this is a fairly common problem with the kia sorento's.checking the comments from other sorento owners, i have concluded this certainly appears to be a design defect.our concern is that this could have happened in traffic at 70 mph and the loss of the ability to steer could certainly become a very serious problem, with potentialfatal consequences.i am especially concerned about the number of situations that the bolt failed a second and sometimes a third time after the initial repair was made. Request serious consideration of kia issuing a recall to remedy this design defect.updated 01/14/15
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, there was a sudden loss of steering power and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft pulley needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 90,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that while traveling 64 mph, the bolt on the crank shaft sensor fractured and detached, causing damage to the engine and motor. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and the current mileage was 120,000.updated 07/31/13*ljthe consumer was informed the vehicle needed a new engine, due to the idle pulley bolt falling off.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving 10 mph, the crankshaft detached from the vehicle, causing the vehicle to come to a compete stop. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who confirmed the failure. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer (kia store clarksville, 826 e lewis and clark pkwy, clarksville, in 47129, (866) 545-2429) where the crankshaft was replaced, but oil started leaking from the camshaft seal after the repairs. The manufacturer was called and stated that further repairs were not covered under the warranty. The failure mileage was 123,000.
On 07/14/16 i tried to start my vehicle.it did not start so i called a tow truck to give me kick start.the engine started and the battery light came on, this is the first time it had.two driver told me to take it and get the battery checked out it just didn't seem right to him.so i did and that is when i found out the i had a blown head gasket and upon further investigation they found that the coolant got into the engine and two of the pistons were gone and the interior wall of the engine was scorched badly.this vehicle has been taken care of i loved it and made sure i followed all the requirements bu kia to keep this car running.with such little miles this should of never happened.in my investigation, i found similar reports regarding kia sorento's and engine problems.i have been in contact with kia but they have not made any gestures to help me.i do not have money to get a new car and this was my transportation to drive about 2hrs to help my 93 1/2 yr old mother.now i can't do that.i loved this car and can not believe that kia will not help. I have had to rent a car for 2 days, take a taxi and depend on others in my time of need.
The harmonic balancer mounting bolt sheared and stripped the threads in the crankshaft of my 2005 kia serento. The mechanic had my car for 3 months trying to fix this problem. This is evidently a design issue and should have a recall issued. This problem cost me a lot of money to fix. (the car was in motion when the harmonic balancer fell off) my wife struggle to get the car home due to lost of belts.
On july 13th 2013 i started financing a 2005 kia sorrento lx from a dealership in pinellas park, florida called e-z car credit. During the first month of financing the car had to be serviced for many different reasons. Over the last year and a half of financing the problems have gotten worse an more expensive. Problems include but not limited to: overheating, bad sensors, front end alignment, new water hoses, new water reservoir, thermostat, power steering, electrical. An then we come to the most recent problem. The one 1,000s upon 1,000s of customers have been having "catastrophic engine failure" broken push rods, cams destroyed, valves, pistons. Estimated cost $4000. An now that i have $7,000 invested and owe another $5,000 on my loan i am joining the class action lawsuit against kia motors.
I was leaving a patient's home when i got around the corner from their home, my car just shut off on me. All the lights were on in the vehicle but it would not move. After waiting for about two hours for someone to come help me in my situation. I had to have my car towed all the way from west haven to amity, where i had the car checked out by the mechanic that fixed the crankshaft bolt and other things costing me a total of $1100. The car was still under the warranty for being fixed again when the mechanic told me after having my car their for a couple of weeks that the bolt broke again and it messed up the whole bottom half of my engine. I am still making monthly payments on this car and i am completely lost as in what to do with it. Kia doesn't want anything but money and the other mechanic is calling this a recurring defect and doesn't see the point in fixing it when the car needs a new engine. I'm ready to scream my head off because i don't have money to keep throwing away on something i cant even use.
In november of 2015, i was on my way home from work and just picking my one year old up from daycare, when i heard a loud screeching noise from a belt. My gauges went wild and i my power steering was in and out. By the time i hit the main highway to get home as i was exiting my power steering went completely out and the car could not be driven any further, so i had to coast to the side of the road. This was during rush hour traffic, i am soooo lucky that i hadn't quiet entered the highway yet. Had to get towed home. Got home and noticed the crankshaft bold was broken and the belts were thrown. We fixed it and now it has just done it again on july 1st as i was backing out of the driveway to go out of town. I didn't drive it because i knew the bolt was about to break because the harmonic balancer pulley was wobbling really bad, the air wouldn't work and the gauges started going crazy. Also the pulley's were struggling to spin. Is it going to take someone to loose their life before something is done about it?
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving approximately 60 mph, the crank pulley bolt fractured without warning. The failure disabled the steering wheel, which made it difficult to control the vehicle. The contact coasted the vehicle to a stop. A certified mechanic stated that the crank pulley bolt fractured and detached from the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer for repairs. After the repair, the vehicle stalled without warning and lost all steering power. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer under warranty for repair. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.updated 10/13/16*lj
At a stop light, i heard and felt a shudder throughout the vehicle. The brake and battery light came on immediately after the shudder. The engine continued to run normally. Proceedingthrough the intersection, i experienced the loss of power steering making the car very difficult to control.managed to get the vehicle to a nearbyparking lot where i called for a tow to the kia dealer.dealer confirmed a sheared crank shaft bolt.incident occurred on a busy state highway during rush hour. Speed limit is 45 mph on this stretch of road and very busy at rush hour. Had the vehicle been in motion at the time of the part failure there would have been an accident.
Front drive shaft broke. Other issues and incidents include but not limited to:induction control system broke. Harmonic balancer broke. Crank shaft timing belt sprocket, crankshaft bolt broke and throttle position sensor.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that the driver was driving approximately 50 mph in the rain, when she heard a loud clunking noise the steering wheel became very stiff and difficult to turn. During the failure, the battery light as well as various other warning lights began illuminating on the instrument panel. The vehicle was parked. The contact examined the vehicle and noticed all the engine belts were detached and a bolt was separated from the motor. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure and current mileages were 66,000.
Earlier recall defective!!! 2005 kia sorento v6, had a recall ofbreakage of crankshaft accessory pulley bolt. New bolt from the recall has also failed. My crankshaft pulley and bolt fell out on the highway while in operation. Kia service refuses to cover the new bolt on warranty. Had bolt tightened at local shop and it failed again in 3 days!!!kia is failing to fix this problem in which will result in fatality accidents.
Bolt for the crankshaft pulley has sheared off twice since i bought the vehicle 5 months ago.
I bought my 2005 kia sorento october 2011.the cost of the vehicle was $8664.00 and financed for $13,399.48 or 36 months.this vehicle was purchased at brick city motors, 316 broadway ave, newark, nj 07104.a warranty for 6 months or 7500 miles was issued with it.the warranty did not cover the defect in the engine.on february 7 2012, i was driving on interstate 280 in the 3rd lane going west when the vehicle shut off. Thepower steering went out and i was unable to turn the hazard lights on.thank god people were not flying or there would have been a tragic accident.i had the vehicle towed to a kia dealership in nutley nj.i did that because i figured it was a kia product let their dealership repair it. The result for the problem was replaced timing belt/crankshaft gear/tensioner/pulley/idler/balancer-note: cr damaged- jeweled key way to crank slot limited warranty on rep.the labor cost was 826.00 with no guarantee on parts or labor.brick city paid for the parts and i paid for the labor.on july 15th 2012 my kia sorento had to be towed to kia in nutley nj.the rep advisor told me that i need to get rid of the vehicle while i can.i paid 50 some dollars for an oil cap to be replaced.the vehicle had shut off again like it did in feb 2012. The rep also told me that i need a transmission.on july 26 the vehicle would not start up and a friend of mine took me to her brothers mechanic shop.the end result was that they found the crankshaft needs replacing and was bent again. On july 26, 2012, i, then went back to kia in nutley nj and the manager told me the work they did was not warranted and that brick city motors screwed me.i called kia motors in woodbridge nj and they told me the worst case scenario is that i have to pay maybe 2000.00 for a replacement.i am a disabled veteran permanently and totally disabled.i have to have a suv due to daily chronic pain.
Crankshaft pulley came loosebolt brokekia has a problem with this.
3/2/13 had timing belt replaced @50,031 miles on my 2005 kia sorento to manual specs.drove from phx to nashville.5/2013 i heard a terrible squeaking sound under my hood, first thought loose belt. Went on to get it check out&as i was trying to make a right turn a few blocks from the house,my steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. Thought my power steering pump had gone out. I almost ran over 2 people crossing the street&almost hit another car. I was turning my steering wheel to the right w/all my might! everyone was honking at me & thought i was probably drunk! i was so upset. Had it towed to kia. My power train still under warranty,am original owner&denied coverage 3x.they tried to sell me a used engine for $5k.stated they knew they could not get the broken piece of bolt out.i did some research on-line&there is many complaints w/ this problem, some have had it happen 2,3,4 x.mgr. Told me my model had the new re-designed bolt,&it was brakes plus fault when they put on the timing belt. Mgr. Said that they should have never used the old bolt&that they put on a new bolt when replacing timing belt.i heard a tsb went out regarding the bolts to all service shops to use the new re-design bolt on 03&04 models, but not 05.if i had gotten a copy of that notice,i would have made sure that whoever replaced timing belt, used new bolt. A kia tech wrote:8/10/12 its not the bolt, it is the crank sprocket&balancer, the design of the balancer sticks out to far&weighs to much breaking off the spring guide pin.when there is a repair,we replace them everytime we do a timing belt on one.you take the crack sprocket&balancer&u add 2 more spring pins as well as drill&tap the crank&install a timesert (heavier helicoil) have not had one of these come back,if anyone is doing a timing belt i highly recommend doing this at the same time, but it will not break the bolt or sheer the guide pin.
Timing belt service performed by kia dealer on 3/1/2010 @ 77105 miles.on 5/22/2010, noticed brake warning and battery warning lights on while on highway.pulled onto next off-ramp, and noticed no power steering.i then pulled into a gas station, opened the hood, and noticed that the alternator, a/c, and main drive belt appeared to have come off of the pulleys.i was able to drive the vehicle home, and checked the next morning to see if i was able to replace the belts.i found the crankshaft pulley lying at the bottom of the engine bay.upon further inspection, i found that the crankshaft pulley bolt had sheared off at the threads inside the crankshaft sprocket.
Crankshaft position sensor has to be replaced every 2 years with no explanation and headlights being replaced every 3-4 months and dome light just quit and no explanation from kia or dlr.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that all of the instrument panel light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the crankshaft position sensor failed and needed to be replaced.the failure and the current mileage was 110,522.updated 1/29/13updated 2/6/2013
While driving the vehicle the motor started knocking extremely loud.did not overheat and oil level was fine.on july 31 i received a phone call from ms stevens (central kia) to authorize for the diagnosis of the vehicle.the cost to diagnose the problem will be $80.00 if not covered under warranty.on august 1sti received a call from ms. Stevens stating the technician saw signs of ?sludge? when he removed the oil cap. Ms. Steven questioned if there was knocking noise prior to the failure.i explained there was no noise present and the last oil change was approximately 3,800 miles ago.ms. Stevens said she had to get authorization to proceed to go any further because of the evidence of ?sludge?.if the failure was due to ?oil starvation? it would not be covered under warranty and the further diagnosis would cost approximately $500.00.i quickly dismissed the possibility that the engine had been ?oil starved?.if the engine was oil starved the failure would most likely happen over time.this failure was immediate.ms. Stevens agreed and even mention that she has seen and the technician as experienced a malfunction with a wing nut and bolt breaking and falling into the lower part of the motor.she believed that is what happened in this case which would be covered under the 100,000 mile warranty.on thursday august 2nd at approximately 11:00am i went to central kia in plano and met with ms. Stevens.ms stevens told me the work on my vehicle had not begun.at approximately 1:30 pm i received a phone call from ms. Stevens stating a malfunction in the motor occurred involving a failed part (bolt).ms. Stevens now is requested for me to produce maintenance records or the defective engine will not be covered under warranty.it is very frustrating to me to know that kia knew of the faulty part prior to the diagnosis, then finding the problem then placing the monkey on the consumers back before they will cover it under warranty.
I was backing up out of a parking spot when the power steering stopped working, i couldn't react fast enough and ended up hitting a cement pole. When i had the car towed to my mechanic i was informed that the bolt for the crankshaft had broken. ( the car has only 43,500 miles on it) when talking with kia dealer and doing some online research i learned that this is a pretty common failure. I was told that kia was well aware of the problem but left the dealers to fend for themselves. I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall, do they need someone to be killed in an accident before they consider it a problem? the nhtsa has the power to intervene and i urge you step up and address this ongoing problem.
Stripped crank shaft.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving at 15 mph, the contact noticed that the power steering suddenly stopped functioning. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the crank shaft pulley bolt needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 72,000. Updated 07/29/10the consumer also stated the vehicle lost steering.updated 08/09/10
Car power steering began to fail.power steering fluid was checked but adding fluid did not solve the problem.vehicle failed to start, needed to be towed to mechanic.after inspection by mechanic, it was determined that the crank shaft bolt broke off from the car.consequently this broke the timing belt and may have bent the valve rods (mechanic is in the process of taking the vehicle apart and assessing any other subsequent damage caused by the broken crank shaft bolt).the vehicle needs thousands of dollars of repairs (still being determined as to the entire scope).the bolt, timing belt and most likely valve rods will need to be replaced, along with numerous hours of labor due to the fact the engine needs to be taken apart and put back together.the old crank shaft bolt is available.
2005 kia sorento +/- 77,000 miles...while driving at a low speed the brake and battery light flashed on, lost power steering, after researching online it appears it's the dreaded crank shaft pulley/bolt defect luckily iwas able to safely get off the road......1yr to payoff vehicle. Not to mention the numerous front and taillight bulb replacements. I will never buy a kia again!!! kia is aware of this issue and has done little to nothing about it. Are they waiting for a death to occur?
December 18, 2010kia motors america, inc. Dearkiathis letter is to complain about an internet posted and known defect in your 2005 kia sorento. I recently broke down because 'the crankshaft bolt broke off inside the engine'. It cost me $85.00 to get it towed and now will run an additional $1,200+/- to repair it. From what i'm reading on the internet when the problem is fixed there is no way of guaranteeing it won't happen repeatedly. Through no fault of sorento owners as told by your service mechanic (scott) of kia of dutchess county (ny). 'just a bad part'. Apparently, this bolt shears off and falls inside the engine causing additional damage. Your fix supposedly, is to torque the bolt properly, well that bolt is factory torqued! i have no complaints with scott as he is courteous and trying to fix it. The issue is that this very costly factory defect in either the bolt or the engineering of the bolt specifications is and should be the responsibility of kia motors.' as an owner, i am disappointed that you have turned away from your responsibility to address the factory problems as they are noted through use of your vehicles. Additionally, when the bolt breaks, and i have firsthand knowledge, the brake and battery lights appear on the dashboard and loss of power steering occurs. The sudden loss of power steering almost caused me to veer into a curb on the side of the road but could have been a lot worse. I have added (below) some of the many internet posted complaints of people with the same nightmare. And even after it's fixed there is no guarantee it won't continue to happen. How about some good old fashioned owning up to the responsibility of providing safe and reliable cars for people who pay thousands of dollars to purchase one of the most expensive things we will ever own!!! needless to say, i am quite frustrated and when i pick up the car totally out of money.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact was driving approximately 60 -65 mph when the battery and parking brake warning lights illuminated momentarily. The contact stated that the power steering failed suddenly and caused extreme difficulty in steering capabilities. The vehicle was then inspected by an independent mechanic and they advised that the failure was the harmonic balancer bolt and that the entire engine would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was approximately 75,000.
Balancer bolt has broken off in the crank shaft pulley causing the alternator not to spin.required to drill out the bolt and replace the balancer and remove and replace the sprocket.
I purchased a 2005 kia sorento from a dealership on nov. 18, 2014. In january 2015 the crankshaft sensor broke . It was repaired by the dealership under warranty. On april 8th i started hearing a knocking sound so i stopped driving the vehicle and did some research to find out what the problem was. I found out that the car i had was part of a recall and there was a lawsuit for the same issue i was having with my vehicle. I purchased the parts and had the car towed to my mechanic. My mechanic has attempted to repair the car without success. I have had to rent a car and also pay daily for rides to and from work. I contacted kia today and they stated that i would have to pay kia to do a diagnostic test before anything can be done. I was never notified about a recall. Even though it was a few years ago, this is information that should be given to every purchaser whether new or used.
The main crank shaft pully bolt stripped out and caused the crank shaft to start to work its way out of the motor block i talked to kia customer service center and they said that it was not covered as a recall even though it was a main failure in the previous two years of 2003 and 2004 they said that they had fixed the problem by installing a different bolt in the 2005 model but in my opinion that is a false statement do to the fact it has failed in my 2005 sorento telling me the problem has not been solved.
While returning from our vacation our kia started making at lot of noises in around the airconditioning heating system, the air coming from the vents didn't seem to be warm enough to defog the windows, then the next day when it was warmer it started making a rattling fan noise when the air was turned on. When the system was turned off it didn't make the noise anymore.we arrived home unloaded our gear and then went out again a while later.the fan noise started again and the warning light came on and the power steering didn't work, when the air was turned off everything resumed to normal.we arrived at our friend house and went inside.after several minutes we smelled something burning and went outside to see smoke coming from the engine area.we lifted the hood to investigate where we saw flames coming from the engine. We immediately extinguished the fireand had the vehicle towed the next day.come to find out several days later that our vehicle was too badly burned to repair the engine. The engine had to be replaced due to a timing belt failure. If this is an ongoing problem it should be mandatory that they should be replaced by whomever owns the vehicle or the dealer if the car has been tradedbecause the next owner would not know any of the previous repairs such was our case.as it stands now there are some interior electrical problems such as the lights an the electronic seats we are hoping for some kind of recall for this problem.there was also a problem with the fan running on after the car was turned off. This was still happening even after the engine had been replaced and we were told earlier that it was a sensor problem which still happened even after the sensor was replaced.
My 2005 sorento, suv, begun to shake on the front and later stopped. I had a mechanic check it for the main belt to be off and he said it was more major. The bolt had broken off in the motor. Some cars from kia had already had that complaint. I called the kia headquarters and they said yes, but not a recall for thatmodel doing it. Well it is and i am still paying for something i can't use.????
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento.the contact stated that the engine was making a loud knocking noise.when she started the vehicle, it began to shake severely and make a ticking noise.the vehicle could not be driven and was towed to the dealer.the technician found particles that resembled metal fragments in the engine.the entire engine had to be replaced.the failure mileage was 62,000.
05 kia sorento.the harmonic balancer bolt doesn't adequately secure the balancer or pulley.thru normal use, the bolt becomes loose causing damage to the balancer.the damaged balancer causes the pulley to become damaged, and all of the accessory belts run by the crankshaft pulley are damaged.the "fix" offered by kia does nothing to permanently fix the problem.i have now taken my vehicle to an ase certified mechanic twice in the last year and the problem still exists.costs have now reached over $2100 and counting!!!!!
Check engine light, needed canister close v canister ass/check engine install ccv filter and splash shields/check engine sensor fuel tank/ still waiting for sensor. Now cannot put gas in vehicle, keeps back splashing out, on 1/4 tank and cannot put gas in,still waiting for part.
Harmonic balancer bolt broke causing failure of all belt driven components. Loss of power steering while driving at highway speeds being the worst of which. It was extremely difficult for a small framed older woman to control while pulling over. Harmonic balancer fell from vehicle representing substantial risk to other vehicles on roadway. Vehicle had been todealership for previous repairs but they neglected to adhere to the manufacturers tsb andreplace the bolt. I have since found that many many other owners of this vehicle have hadthe same issue spanning many model years. I don't believe the defect to be in the bolt but rather in the design of the harmonic balancer, the crank shaft and the mating of the two.when this failure occurs the vehicle becomes inoperable and leaves it occupants stranded.loss of power assisted control and the high probability of a large and heavy piece of steelbeing dropped in the midst of oncoming traffic represent a substantial risk to the public. Thisissue has not been properly addressed by the manufacturer as no notice that this bolt shouldbe replaced has been given to consumers. Kia motors is aware of the problem and sent atsb to dealers directing them to change the bolt in question upon the vehicles next dealerservice. However this practice is not properly adhered to and with the customer beingunaware of any possible problem it becomes easily overlooked. I have also noticed that many people have more frequent failures after the bolt has been replaced. After having the vehicle towed to kia i was informed that the engine would have to be replaced and that kia would not cover this under it's power train warranty.
Turning into the driveway from a short trip to the corner gas station, i heard a loud "clunk", lost power steering and vehicle would not restart.contacted kia roadside assistance and had vehicle towed to dealership. Dealer indicated the crankshaft bolt broke.dealer replaced the "short block" under warranty.repairs took 5 days and no alternate transportation was provided.
Check engine light came on while traveling with 100 miles of home on 9/22/06.called kia roadside assistance, they recommended contacting the dealer.took to dealer same day, they reset the light and recommended using a higher octane fuel and return for service if light returns.returned to dealer on 9/26/06 with light on again.testing showed cylinder #3 misfired and caused internal engine damage.engine replaced at 12,149miles under warranty and 9/27/06.
Driving out of my office park at lunch time, heard fan noise like loose belt, then when turning wheel to exit lot, heard a loud "clunk" and lost power steering. Engine sitting loose in compartment land loose belts everywhere. Called roadside assistance and had vehicle towed to dealer.told 2.5 hours late, when i called to the dealer, that the crankshaft bolt was broken again.contacted kia consumer affairs and found although there is an active campaign to recall this bolt, my vin is not on the list (this is the second failure).although "short block" was replaced at last failure (in 4/07 at 20,200 mi) this failure required machining the bolt out and only replacing the crankshaft sprocket, crank pulley and crankshaft bolt, then reinstalling other components. Contacted kia consumer affairs 6/18/08 and requested dist service mgr approval short block replacement.no return phone calls although messages were left for agent on 6/19 and 6/20. Agent called on 6/25/08 to ask "how is the vehicle riding?", but we had not picked up the vehicle from the dealer, since yet again no alternate transportation was provided.safety is now a major concern with this vehicle.no confidence in replacement parts to solve this problem.research shows many other owners reporting multiple failures of the crankshaft bolt.repair took 6 business days (8 calendar days) and again no alternate transportation was offered or provided. Www.kia-forums.com has information from a kia technician thatthe crankshaft problem is due to a design flaw that cannot be fixed by replacing a bolt every 10,000 to 20,000 miles or each failure.no owner should be expected to wait for another failure that drops the bottom half of the engine.this is a serious safety concern that needs to be addressed.i have been fortunate that the failures have been out of traffic and not on the interstates.living in metro atlanta, ga means i afar greater chance of the next failure causing injury to me or others.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated while driving 40 mph the brake lamp, battery warning lamp illuminated and the vehicle lost power steering without any warnings. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the drive belts, and crank bolt sheered off and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 80,000.
2005 kia sorento ex with 80,000 miles; crankshaft pulley bolt failed may of 2011, resulting in being stranded.towed to nearest repair facility, cost approx. $1200.00 for repair.the 2003 and 2004 kia models had a recall for this very problem, but kia refuses to extend the recall to 2005, even though many kia owners have experienced this problem.some have had their crankshaft bolts fail multiple times.i have contacted kia several times to try to get them to pay for the repair but they have refused.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving at 60 mph, the contact heard a banging noise in the engine. Within a few minutes, the vehicle stalled and could not be restarted. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the crankshaft bolt and the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The current and failure mileages were approximately 69,000.
My 2005 kia sorento cut off while i was driving, throwing me into a spin and leaving me facing the wrong way into oncoming traffic.could have killed me and my kids.had it towed to dealership.they jump started it and said they couldn't duplicate the problem. They did nothing.it subsequently cut off in traffic 3 more times.called the dealership, they said it wasn't a warranty issue (this was the month of the warranty expiration but it hadn't expired yet) and since they couldn't duplicate the problem there was nothing to fix. Kia is parked and i won't drive it.they don't honor their warranty and know about this defect and won't try to fix it during warranty period.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving at 10 mph and making a right turn, the bolt that connected the pulley and crankshaft snapped causing the contact to lose control of the steering. The engine turned off and the vehicle came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the road. The contact restarted the vehicle and took it the nearest repair shop where the pulley fell to the ground when lifted for diagnosis. The contact called both the dealership and the manufacturer but would not cover the repair expenses. The vehicle was awaiting repair at another repair shop at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 97,000.
At under 20,000 miles i was told i need a new engine.they have had the car for two weeks and won't give me a rental in the meantime.
Check engine light came on and engine idled very rough. Fearing repeat of cylinder misfire that occurred in september 2006 took vehicle straight to dealer. Cause determined to be a faulty evap pressure sensor.replaced sensor under warranty.
1) slowed car to put into park & car lunged forwarded, backed off, lunged forward, backed off, etc.tapping sound came from engine.2) car engine stopped and would not restart (stalled on roadway)3) it is currently in the dealership for repairs, after they told me they couldn't get it to duplicate the problem (although the 1st day it was in the dealership, they anknowledged it was "misfiring".)they have now stated that a clip on the intake manifold comes dislodged and end up in the catalytic converter, and this could have caused the problem.my car has been out of service for 3 days, as of this writing, as they have ordered a new intake manifold.
2005 kia sorento v6, breakage of crankshaft accessory pulley/vibration damper bolt, causing loss of power steering due to power steering belt to become inoperative. This problem effects 2003 to 2006 kia sorento v6 engines many owners have had multi failures of this bolt, the updated bolts fail too. Kia is trying to hide this serious problem and has no intention of a real fix. My vehicle and others are afraid to drive our kia sorento's.
While driving a light on the dash illuminated and the vehicle suddenly lost power.the vehicle had a sensor issue which caused the panel light to flash and the power to be lost. The panel light flashed twice and stayed on the second time. The consumer was told it was an emission light and there was no other explanation.the consumer tried to have the vehicle jump started but it did not start the vehicle. The consumer was given a choice to take another vehicle same make and model as an exchange for her purchased vehicle that failed.the clock did not keep time and the light switch didnot turn on the interior lights. The consumer was told that the clock for the second vehicle was on back order.the clock has to be reset every time the consumer gets in the vehicle. *tc
Clock keeps resetting itself and i have gone through 8 headlights in less than 6 months. Kia says use their $50 headlights.this is ridiculous!

Headlights replaced with xenon headlights. They blew, both at the same time, about 60 days after installation. Then i replaced them again with the same lights, again, one blew about 3 months later. Replaced them with regular headlights. Drivers side blew, replaced it, both blew again about 4 months later. Last week, drivers side went, replaced it, and the passenger side blew the very next day. With the amount of complaints i have seen online, kia should be doing something about this. I have also had to change side markers, tail lights (twice) and a directional (twice). I have only owned the vehicle since 10/2010.
I own a 2005 and a 2006 kia sorento ex.in both vehicles i must replace lightbulbs continually.on average, i replace headlights approximately once every 60 to 90 days.brake light bulb replacement is less frequent, but does occur often within the year.there is obviously a problem with the electrical system in these vehicles but kia will not acknowledge any problems.
I have a 2005 kia sorento.the tail lights, tag lights, head lights, and running lights are constantly going up. This is a major safety issue and i am sick and tired of spending a small fortune in bulbs for this car.i bought the car new in 2005 and have had this problem since a few months after purchasing. Kia will not acknowledge that there is a problem or put a recall on the vehicle. For the safety of my two kids who are passengers in this vehicle, please do something about this.
I have to every 3 -4 months replace the headlights on my 2005 kia sorento.kia has told me because your organization has not issues any type of recall on this i will keep on replacing them.this is insane!!!!!i know that i am not the only owner complaining about this.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While the contact was driving approximately 45 mph the exterior light system was activated and suddenly became nonfunctional without warning. The failure was due to a burned out light bulb. The failure was a frequent occurrence. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The current and failure mileages were 110,000.
We have to change the twice headlights and the twice taillight four sets of parking lights,on our 2005 kia sorento ex this in a 18 months.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento.the contact stated that she had to replace her front headlamp light bulbs approximately eleven times and the brake light bulbs twice.there were no recalls available on this year, make, and model vehicle.the current mileage was 67,869 and failure mileage was 50,000.
Note: purchased vehicle used approximately 1 month and 500 miles before problems initially started.1) headlight bulbs blow out repeatedly either during driving or an onset of driving (come on momentarily just before blowing).have had to replace low beam headlight bulbs on 5 occasions in the first year of ownership.research on the matter indicates this is a wide spread issue among kia sorento owners.observed on several occasions that the bulbs blew out after using the key fob.stopped using the key fob and the bulb blowouts stopped, but issue #2 continues (see next incident description).2) headlights low beams stop working intermittently.headlight low beams stop working during driving at night or will not work from onset of driving.incident occurs at least monthly driving approximately 600 miles per month.low beams start working again on intermittent basis.observed that if the headlights do not work at onset of driving, after switching the low beams on and off a significant number of times (20+) they will sometimes start working again (learned this after being stranded at night without ability to safely drive).
First the headlights on driver side went out. We took the 2005 kia sorento lx to the dealer to have the headlight replaced at which time they admitted there was a defect problem with the headlights going out frequently.they said bring it in and they would fix the problem.the next time the passenger light went out and the dealer said there was no problem and would not fix it.since then the drivers side light has gone out three more times and the passengers side has gone out twice.each rear brake light has gone out twice. Recently we have experienced the interior dome light intermittently malfunctioning along with both headlights and a smell of smoke near the dome light.we have been pulled over twice by police due to inoperable headlights and taillights.the dealer takes no responsibility for this obvious electrical defect which is clearly a safety hazard.
Lighting (bulbs) very short life, bulbs last 1/5 to 1/10th of the life in other vehicles. Most recent both low beam bulbs failed within 5 minutes leaving us with no lighting while driving at highway speed on unlit divided highway. We have been replacing bulbs every 2-3 months. We always replace both headlights when one burns out. My other vehicles last many years, this vehicle is the only one i have ever had that headlights only last months. The vehicle is only driven 4 days per week and the headlight life is actually less than 50 hours use. We have tried sylvania (standard, silverstar and silverstar ultras, ge, hella and recently phillips bulbs all with the same lifespan (within days) something is wrong. There is a tsb but no recall.
I have a 2005 kia sorento, i have changed the headlights a total of three times since i have had this car on each on both sides, now both are out and i can only use my high beams.i have also had to change my rear lights once.
Help!! i am constantly replacing head lights, tail lights, brake lights, fog lights. Every single month it's one light or another in a continuous cycle.i see many complaints for this same issue.i love my kia sorrento other than this problem.i feel that this is a safety issue as much as it is a nuisance not to mention an expense!!! kia, do the right thing!! please.
Headlights blowing on a regular basis. Replace headlights four to five times a year possible electrical issue.
I was on the interstate and both of my taillights stop working. I was notified by another driver. I took the vehicle into the kia dealership and was told it was a light assembly problem. They claimed to have fixed it. Even after their so called fix i have t o replace taillight and headlight bulbs about every three months. The outages occur on opposite sides everytime and switch between the taillight and headlight. I have to keep extra bulbs and the needed tools available in my truck at all times. I have been issued a ticket as well due to my taillight being out. This is very costly and dangerous to family. I have two teenage children who also drive this vehicle. It seems to be a widespread problem due to the blogs that i have seen concerning this problem. Please help.
Headlamps fail and must be replaced every 3-6 months.
I was stopped by a fhp officer on my way home one friday evening for my left headlights being out. I didn't know they were out until he stopped me. I didn't get a ticket, only a warning. The officer said it was very dangerous to be driving on the interstate with my lights out. A couple years back i was stopped in valdosta for the same reason. This has happened at least 50 times or more since i have had this car. My lights go out every couple of months and sometimes i don't know there out until someone stops me or i can hardly see to drive. It is very dangerous and i think kia should recall this model and fix the problem. I am not the only one who is having this problem. I have over 100+ posts from this site of others with the same problem. Are they going to wait until someone is killed in an accident before kia will do something about it. I have talked to a lawyer and i plan to start a class action lawsuit against kia if they don't do something about this situation. There are plenty of others who are ready also. The kia dealers want do anything to help with this, and they know it is a problem that is from the factory.all they ever say is it's not covered under the warranty. I bought this car new in 2005. I went down to south florida to visit in 2005 and on the way down all my headlights went out. I couldn't see to drive at all so we had to stop for the night and wait till morning to get it fixed. It cost me over $80.00 to get it fixed the first time. Since they go out ona monthly basis, my husband has been fixing them. It is getting quite expensive to keep replacing the bulbs and it's very annoying and dangerous as well!!
I have a 2005 kia sorento that constantly has headlights, tail lights, fog lights & brake lights that constantly go out.i normally have to replace one of these lights at least once a month......i've started keeping my receipts because hopefully kia will stand by their vehicles and finally do a recall on this.i look online and several people are complaining about the same issue, but it looks as if kia isn't standing by their vehicle.i have no intention on purchasing a kia again.i have called their service department quite a few times to see if their has been a recall issued yet, but the servicemen seem to blow the issue off.
Headlight and dome bulbs burns out very often, i spend more money replacing bulbs than oil change, obviously there is an electrical problem on this model. Please let them fix this issue.
I was driving home from work and stopped to store and when i went to back out it felt like power steering belt went out but it was not that it was a bolt backed out of the crankshaft and dealership said it was out of warranty so i called kia hotline and they said i still have warranty but not on that screw so i am looking a 2 grand to fix this suv thathas headlights and taillights to be replaced all the time and the dealerships do not back up there product.
My 05 kia sorrento's head light bulbs keep consistently burning out.i have bought 8 lightbulbs within the last 6 months. This will be the very last kia that i own unless there service gets better and more reliable and they take action on there defective vehicles.
Basically, i am constantly having to change lights. (i.e. Brake lights, interior dome lights, headlights).
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento.while driving 35 mph, the front headlights suddenly shut off.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the light bulbs needed to be replaced.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 58,469 and failure mileage was 38,000.
This is my second complaint on this issue.i currently have no working headlights on my 2005 kia sorento, again.the light bulbs go out every three to six months.the right rear brake light just went out as well.i keep having to drive with my high beams on because i keep losing one or both of my headlights.this will be the 5th time i replace the bulbs in a year's time.kia tells me there is no problem and that they will charge me $48 per bulb to change them and guarantee them for a 12 month period.i see alot of similar complaints online for this same issue.
I have had to replace the bulbs in this vehicle every few months.brake lights, head lights, fog lights, blinkers etc.this is insane.i keep getting tickets, and now 2 days ago the officer recognized me from pulling me over for the same thing 6 months ago.
The front windshield wipers start working by itself without pressing any control. Specialty at night and the washer pump does not work. Sometimes when using turn signals or headlights and the only way to stop itis turning off the engine. It is scary because you do not expect such occurrences and makes a distraction when you are driving in the speedway, here in south carolina without any lights in the road and the i 26 is not an easy road to drive safety.
I have replaced about 5-7 driver's front headlamp bulbs and need to replace it again.this is very annoying because every couple of months it goes out, not to mention the cost of the bulbs and to have someone put them in.i am ready to get rid of this vehicle!!!i have checked with kia and of course, they say they have not had any complaints or have had any problems with the headlamps, liars!!!i wish they would fix this problem. Hopefully someone can help me.
Vehicle has had continual premature light bulb burnouts of all exterior lamps, headlights, tail lights and stop lights. This happens every 1-2 months.
Interior electrical lighting turns itself off and on.headlights will occasionally shut themselves off.lights regularly burn out/need replacing every 45-90 days.dash lights haven't worked in over a year - fuse regularly blows, gave up on replacing it.
Headlights and taillights have been replaced at least 5 times in the 3 years i've had the sorento. I keep my headlights off during the day and it seemed to delay the bulb going out as fast as it did when i kept them on all day. I keep replacement bulbs in my vehicle at all times due to this. You can buy them for $5.00 at your local auto parts store. Kia needs to recall this...way too many complaints for nothing to be wrong.
Noticed that i had a brake light out on the passenger side, replaced it with proper bulb 1157.a double filament bulb. It appears that is also the tail light? checked light and it worked but later realized that when i pressed the brake pedal the brake light was out.the next day noticed the driver tail light was out and replaced it but later realized the brake light didnt work,as well as my cruise control stopped working at the same time.went to an auto care store they replaced both of the lightsand again tail lights worked but when i pressed brake pedal no lights. Checked and replaced the fuse just to be sure and at this point i got on the internet and seen 285 complaints with the same problem and the majority of them said there cruise control had stopped working as well as the sportage model and the kia soul.most suggestions said replace the brake switch. I also checked for faulty wiring and that has not appeared to be the problem and mechanics 90 % of the time were unable to resolve the issue. Why has there not been a recall or some solution to this problem researched by kia mechanics? im still waiting for the answer and i suspect many other people are too!!!!!!thank you very much and ihope you will be able to solve this or issue a recall on the brake switch? or the cruise control sensor maybe idk.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento.the contact noticed that the driver'sside rear brake lights were not illuminating.the dealer replaced the light bulb , and, approximately three or four months later, the bulb was replaced again.the light bulb stopped working again three monthslater.the dealer replaced the bulb once more, but was unable to diagnose the failure.also, the driver's side headlightstopped working.the dealer replaced the light bulb for the fourth time.since the last remedy, there have been no other failures.the current and failure mileage were 47,000.
Lighting problem in my 2005 kia sorento lx.in 2006, my dome light stopped working in the "door" position (i didn't get it fixed).since 2006, i have replaced my kia's left headlight 3 times and the right headlight 2 times.i now have my right headlight out again and the rear left brake light as well.since this has happened too many times to be normal, i called kia.the kia dealership says it requires "kia lightbulbs"at $50/each as well as a $75 diagnostic fee to check the electrical system.kia claims there is a problem with after manufacture light bulbs and that only "kia lightbulbs" will work.checking the internet, i found numerous similar complaints from 2005 sorento owners.this needs to be recalled.i lucked out that only one headlight went out at a time, otherwise, i would have had no headlights.not to mention the cost in replacement lightbulbs.
I purchased my 2005 kia sorento in the fall of 2004.it is now may of 2006.i have replaced 5 headlight bulbs in this time.they began to go bad about 6 months ago, and i have replaced one every 30-45 days.both the driver and passenger side bulbs are effected.kia dealership in lansing says they can't find anything.vehicle is still under warranty.
On my 2005 kia sorento i have burned out 4 sets of low beams in 8 months. Kia has no answers for me and it seems that there is a growing group of owbers, on line, that are having the same problems.

I have had the headlights o 2005 kia sorento replaced twice now. They both went out within a day of each other the first time. I had to pay 129.00 on the car was les than i year old. The second time they replaced under warranty. This is serious. Alot of kia owners are complaining buy kia says nothing is wrong. There must be. Can you help get kia to recall & fix this problem?

The contact owns 2005 kia sorento. Intermittently while driving the head-lights fail.also the interior light does not come on when the doors are open.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The technician could not identify the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000. The vehicle identification number was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted inside and around the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel tank was leaking and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 79,500.
I have a 2005 kia and the gas tank seems to be splitting at the seams nothing i did or have done to cause this it has become a big fire risk
I went to put fuel in my kia sorrento as i do every two weeks at the same gas station same pump. I engaged the pump as alwaysput the nozzle in and when i pushed the lever within 30 seconds there was a gurgling noise and gas spewed all over me, the car and the sidewalk. I went in to get the attendant who had to bring out kitty litter to cover the gas on the ground. She had me move to a different pump and assisted me with trying to put fuel in the vehicle. The same thing happened again. I called kia and they told me it would cost 800 to 1000 to fix. Now i am fueling the car with 5 gallon containers a little at a time. This is a safety hazard for the driver, other patrons and the gas station as well.
Vehcile was filled up and driven to friends house. Vehicle was stationary at friends house for few hours. When leaving i smelled the odor of gas. Got light to observe puddle of gas under vehicle. I drove home because it was dark and waited to inspect in the morning. When re-inspected it was verified gas was leaking from inside an inset on the bottom of the gas tank.
Bought the car used drove home .... Car sat for a while came out to the smell of gas so strongthe gas tank is leaking at the seams... Tank is damp from gas soaking in..... Bought a used tank fixed it and the leak it 100x worse!!!!you can't see the holes it's as if it's not sealing i have read this is a commom problem in this car. And not a cheep fix!!! no recalls?????
When you pump gas it spits back out of gas tank. It does it every time you go to put gas in pump.it happens at the gas pump when its time to pump gas.
While filling the gas tank, gasoline spits back out of the car onto ground (and me)...not an overlow; an actual projectile spitting!
The gas pedal on this vehicle, which only has 22k miles on it, is hard to press down intermittently which could cause an accident.you don't know when you pull out if it's going to go or not and have to press hard on the pedal. I'm told it would need to have the throttle body replaced which there are several complaints online for the same issue and the 2016 kia sorento is under recall for this issue so why isn't the 2005 included? also, it has a gas gauge issue, which there are complaints on.
Tla*the contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. After parking, the contact noticed that the dome light was not working. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the bulb was replaced. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership four to five times because the failure continued. The contact kept replacing bulbs but the dome light still shorted out. The vin was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000. The current mileage was approximately 57,000.
Front passenger door will not (open) from inside of vehicle..it locks and unlocks but door openingconnection link is not opening.this presents a crash and fire hazard as passengers must either open the window and reach out to open or have someone outside open the door!had it repaired and it broke again shortly after repair.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal but the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact stopped the vehicle on the shoulder. The contact was able to drive without failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 1,500...updated 01/16/2013 updated 129/2013 js
Brake pulsation.
2005 kia sorento, was in gear and emergency brake was engaged & the veh rolled out of park and into body of water.when vehicle was retrieved, the police did confirm the vehicle was in park & emerg brake was still engaged.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorrento.the contact was attempting a turn while driving approximately 2 mph when the steering wheel abnormally locked. The contact was unable to turn the wheel and the vehicle was immediately shut off. The vehicle was then towed to an independent repair facility where she was informed that a bolt within the driveshaft had fractured and caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 64,000.
The vehicle is simply not wanting to accelerate upon taking off or going uphill.after little research, i found this is a common problem associated with this model.a metal piece of a valve has been shearing off then lodging in the emissions system.canada has already issued a recall so i am unsure why the us hasn't followed suit.
Ma 10/8
Gear shift knob came off and is stuck in park. The mechanism to engage the shifter is a small cheap plastic piece that broke off.fortunately, the car was not in motion when this occurred.
Second failure of crank shaft pulley bolt within 2 months of it being repaired. Dealer assured me it was fixed properly according to the manufacturers tsb. Bolt sheared off again and all belts came loose.18 year old female driver, while slowing to turn corner lost power assist steering, incredibly lucky to be alive. Loud clunk...that was the harmonic balancer falling off the vehicle. Kia fails to acknowledge design flaw in this dangerous, dangerous vehicle!
Wife was driving away from house, heard screaching sound, then lost power steering while driving nearly ending up on sidewalk. When i checked under hood, i saw a bolt sitting on lower part of engine compartment, crankshaft pulley not moving, but bolt that holds it on spinning. None of the belts were moving. Most of the warning lights were also lit up. Apparently, there is a class action lawsuit involving this issue.
My 2005 kia sorento just went in for a transmission leak at 94k and came out with needing a new tranny pan and a whole new rear end underneath due to the rear trailing arm bracket rotting completely away. This is a major safety issue in which many are having. This needs to be recalled, it's the design of the bracket which causes salt, water, etc to enter and have no way to exit. Any of these vehicles in the salt states are going to have this happen and then tragedy will happen if they don't catch it. Again the rear of the car has rotted brackets that attach the trailing arms and without them the car becomes completely unstable and a huge safely hazard.
Crankshaft pulley came loosebolt brokekia has a problem with this.
The crank shaft pulley in my 2005 kia sorento is defective.the part has failed multiple time and the manufacturer refuses to repair or replace the part or vehicle.the car is still within the power-train warranty with cover the engine.they have however stated that this is not covered as it is not part of the engine however this part is according to the dealership part of the engine as it controls the pistons and with out it the engine can not run.this seem to be a common problem as consumer complaint are posted all over the internet and the dealership has informed me they receive many complaint about this same issue and fix 3-4 a week and often the part fails and they again have to replace it.
Front drive shaft broke. Other issues and incidents include but not limited to:induction control system broke. Harmonic balancer broke. Crank shaft timing belt sprocket, crankshaft bolt broke and throttle position sensor.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving up hill and depressing the accelerator pedal or changing gears, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was moved to the side of the road for a few minutes and then she was able to continue driving normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 63,000.updated 04/12/11*ljupdated 12/28/2011 *ln
The gear shift leaver broke while driving 2005 kia sorrento when examining the leaver it is held together by a small plastic screw that split in half when the lever was shifted into another gear. Thus making the shifter inoperable the car had 65000 miles on iti brought the car to kia and had to replace the shift leaver. I did not ask to keep the old leaver.
While traveling down the road in my 2005 kia sorento my car lost steering.my brake light and battery light came on, i took it to the dealer where they told me crankshaft bolt had broke with half of it stuck in engine. Kia refuses to address the issue with some many people having it. It is a dangerous condition that causes you to lose steering while driving luckily i didn't crash, but some many others have. Kia must recall this crankshaft bolt issue, someone my get seriously hurt or killed!
I see that you have15 recalls for this suv, i have only had kia service this truck, until09/09/2011can you tell me why,no notice or repairs have been fixed, not one notice in the mail joe meyers kia. Houston texas.
2005 sorento love the car, but on take off around 45 to 50 mph if i'll jerk and lose speed but if i keep my foot itdoes happen as of yet, it just holds there end much give lots of gas to get it going. That's the only problem i have. Please help. All the time!
While driving under normal circumstances, the automatic transmission in my 2005 kia sorento makes an unusual noise (klunk) while shifting between gears, then immediately loses power.i maybe able to drive at a very low speed for a short distance with no power or it will just not move (as what happened to me in the second failure).the kia dealership in which i have had it towed to has done the following. First visit = "misc found codes p0716/p0893//clear codes ok at this time" could not duplicate customers concern.second visit = replaced throttle pos sensor".third visit = "vehicle was low on transmission fluid". I am not accepting the last excuse as a fix to the problem, i believe there is an underlying problem.the vehicle went back to the dealer for the 4th time for the clunking noise that causes it to stop and the dealer replaced the wiring harness kit.
Transmission slips in the first four gears. I a have almost been rear ended many times because transmission goes into neutral. Transmission module replaced. It is still slipping out of gear.
Car shakes when braking. Rear brakes pads worn down to 30%. Had rear rotors turned and new pads installed at 37,945 shaking reduced somewhat.at 41,252 had rear brake rotors replaced,(because they where warped) and brake pads replaced, car still shakes. Mechanic states problem is in the drive train which somehow binds-ups when braking and is destroying the rear bakes.shakes.
I have a 2005 kia sorento that started to shut off while driving on jan 3rd 2009.since then it has happened 4 times.it is random and i am currently in court with kia through the pa lemon law.i wanted to file this complaint so it is on record.
While driving my 2005 kia sorento it suddenly looses power and will not surpass 30 mph. When i change from automatic transmission to this new standard shift there is no response. This has occurred now 4 times the past 2 months. The dealer checked the codes and nothing shows. I must stop and shut the vehicle off, restart and all systems return to normal. My dealer says that i must bring this to them when itis in this state. This request isimpossible to do.
While driving vehicle in 2 wheel drive, front differential locked up about 1 minute after noises were heard and smoke started appearing causing vehicle to come to automatic halt...in traffic. No one wants to cover damage created.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While at a traffic light, the vehicle would not accelerate without warning. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the driveshaft fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out warranty. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.
My fiance' and i have recently started experiencing some issues with our 2005 manual transmission. For some reason, from a stop, the car will not move forward once it is on gear. It just won't move. I can take it in and out of gear and it still won't move. I can try it in first or second and still nothing. The work around we figured out is to put it in reverse and maybe move it backwards just a little bit and we are then able to put the car in first and move forward like normal. It has actually happened to her three times in the past week, once last week and twice today. I was able to get to the car last week the first time it happened and saw the issue first hand. I am going to kia about this, but i was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or experienced this issue with the 2005 manual transmission, or any year transmission for that matter.the problem is that this has happened on busy roads and intersections in the middle of rush hour.we are worried that it will happen while she is moving or changing gears.this has to be some sort of safety issue.the car is going to kia tomorrow to have the issue addressed.
Manual transmission intermittent shifting safety defect causes our 2005 kia sorento to lock up while we are driving in traffic and will not let us shift gears or move the car. Has happened pulling into traffic in first gear; has happened on the highway shifting up through gears, has happened down shifting in intersections. This dangerous safety defect could cause us to be in a possibly fatal accident. We have reported this problem to kia inc. Two times and taken to dealers for diagnosis but have been told since this is an intermittent problem and they can't duplicate it there is nothing they can do to help us. They test drive the car but will not do anything else to look at the car.in the meantime the problem continues to exist and we are driving a dangerous vehicle and we do not know what to do to have this problem corrected. Our conscience tells us we should not trade or sell this auto because we know it has a potentially life-threatening safety defect (even though it happens intermittently) . This is a frightening experience. Every time we drive the car we wonder if the shifting problem will occur. We have young grandchildren and bought the kia sorento because of its positive safety features. Because of this serious problem we are highly concerned for their and our safety.updated 11/21/06.updated
When someone sits in the passenger seat, the sensor does not detect passenger. The lightstays in the off position and the air bag light in the dashboard will not cut off.
My family was involved in a vehicle accident in which we were rear ended.both the driver and passenger seat backs fell backward and the seat bottoms pushed back, therefore resulting in the seat backs being pushed into my sons who were in car seats behind us.i do not know why this would happen but not only was me and my husbands injured because of the seats, both my sons were injured when the seats fell back and pushed in on them.i want something done so this does not happen to another family.this is a severe defect.
Seat sensor on my kia sorento for the airbag light does not work. When a passenger sets in the front passenger seat the airbag off light stays on. You put the vehicle in gear, you drive and the light stays on. City or highway travel, the light stays on all the time indicating the passenger airbag if off.
On a few occasions when the driver power seat was moved forward, backward or reclined, it would let you make the adjustment and stop.but if you tried to return the seat to its original position, the motor would not respond. There have been times my wife needed to go shopping and i decided to sit in the car with the baby, recline and relax.when she has returned, the seat would not move which left it in an un-drivable position.this has happened on several occasions.it seemsyou have to get out of the vehicle (taking pressure off the seat) and work the switch back and forth to finally get the seat to move.at times this has taken an hour in a parking lot standing in the rain or in the heat.the dealership says they never heard of such a thing and are unable to duplicate.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While reversing the vehicle from a parking space and placing the gear shift into the drive position, the vehicle began to accelerate forward. The contact's vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle at 10 mph. The brakes failed while being depressed. The passenger side of the vehicle sustained major damage. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
My wife drives this car primarily. She asked me last week to see what i thought about weird noises from the rear brakes when applying. I could not recognize the noises, so i took it to a local shop. The technician has found extreme rust issues with the rear axle link brackets on the axle housing being rusted out and no longer connected. I have dealt with vehicle repair most of my life, and know this is an extremely dangerous condition. My wife carries her 83 year old mother, and our 3 year old grand daughter. I will not allow her to drive it until i am able to get it on a lift and investigate for myself. I do not have a spare vehicle at this time i have found this to be a very widespread problem on these autos, and am inquiring if there is any knowledge of there being a recall for this issue.
Braking system not working properly.first time i applied the brakes to stop at a light and they were slow reacting, which caused my to go into the intersection.second time i was going about 15 mph and went to brake and the pedal went down to the floor without stopping the car.dealership did not find anything wrong, but clearly there is a problem.
Car is making a weasel king of noise around 45-55 mph.kia tried to fix the problem another problem emerged. Car shookwhen brakingservice department in kia of the valley said that they were unable to determine what the problem was. They asked me to wait so they could consult with kia engineers, but before i heard anything back they closed the dealer.

The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact was traveling 10 mph when the power steering assist failed while attempting a left turn and the contact crashed into a ditch. The vehicle was destroyed. The police were not contacted. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 143,000 .. Updated 07/27/12the consumer stated the power steering failure happened on four different occasions. The airbags did not deploy during crash.updated 08/02/2012.
While driving my vehicle home i noticed pulsating in the steering wheel and the power steering went out, the vehicle became very hard to turn, after parking the vehicle and turning it off, i turned it back on and the power steering came back, this issue will be addressed with the dealership on monday.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorrento. The contact was pulling into a driveway at relatively low speeds of 5 mph when he noticed an unusual popping sound. The steering immediately failed and the contact was able to stop the vehicle without incident. The contact noticed that when turning the steering wheel, the tires would not move. The manufacturer advised having the vehicle towed to a local dealer for a diagnosis of the failure. The contact stated he would have his personal mechanic diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 78,000.
While driving at 50 mph the power steering failed on my 2005 kia sorento making it extremely difficult to control. When i finally pulled into a parking lot there was a loud noise coming from the engine. I turned off the engine immediately. When i tried to restart the vehicle thebattery appeared to be dead. I finally had to have it towed around 11 p.m. Upon further inspection by a mechanic it was determined that the cam shaft bold broke off.causing the pulleys to stop which affected everything that was driven by the pulleys. There was also damage to the radiator that needs to be replaced. Initial estimate to repair the vehicle was $1550.

The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving approximately 7 mph down an icy hill, the vehicle was shifted into 4-wheel drive but it failed to engage. The driver lost control and crashed into another vehicle without warning. The driver's shoulder and left arm were injured, but did not require medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the front pinion fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,700.updated 03/31/15*lj
The power steering on our 2005 kia sorento being driven by my 18 year old daughter failed. It was so fortunate that it occurred when she was decelerating to turn a corner, however it was incredibly hard to steer with the loss of power. She was lucky to be able to navigate out of traffic safely. Had aaa tow to the dealer who had sold us the car 2 months earlier. I had purchased an extended warranty for just this purpose...never thinking that i would need to use it so soon.. The aaa driver said it looked as a belt had come off.when at the dealer, found that the crank pully bolt had sheared off resulting in no power steering, ac or charging system! bolt had broken off and harmonic balancer had dropped off the vehicle! after some net research i found a technical service bulletin{ #072 revised} for this same crankshaft bolt. Kia is well aware of this failing bolt and continues to put peoples lives at risk? this is a huge design flaw.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that when entering her vehicle she had a difficult time trying to turn the steering wheel. The vehicle was towed to a independent mechanic who informed the contact that the bolt on the crank shaft had fractured. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The vin was unknown. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 82,000.
I went to my doctors appointment the car ran fine well about half way home the car started making a funny noise sounded like a tractor or if u turn your wheel to far the noise it makes like a grinding metal noise so i stop at a light the noise stopped all seemed normal i lightly stepped on the gas and the noise came back well ive got to get home only seconds away from home no light are coming on its not over heating i go to turn a corner and the steering was gone for a second but came but steering came back decided to take it to the shop all the way to the shop the steering and noise was all going at the same time its clear theres problems with this car that needs to be addressed before someone does get killed is that what has to happen to get a recall?
Driver side axle broke in june 2015 and july 9, 2015 passenger side axle cracked and passenger side hub assembly went bad. Making a rattling, metal grinding noise. When the sorento was raised up the whole underneath is rusted out. Im lucky i didnt have a major accident. Should be recalled for safety issues.
Intermittent hard steering as stated on technical service bulletin, kia motors, # kt2005022519, model: sorento ex, produced before 10/06/04. May intermittently have variations in the level of power assist during driving and parking. Steering problems were related to dealer, alignment of front wheels was performed that required major rebuild due to defective parts. Did not solve problem. I became aware of this service bulletin recently while speaking with a service writer at new kia dealership. No action will be taken due to vehicle being out of warranty. This information was never made know to me since the vehicle was purchased new. This is a serious safety issue that should be addressed.
On tuesday may 24, 2011 as i was about to make a turn in my 2005 kia sorento the steering wheel locked and the brake light turned on. I was able to turn the steering wheel to the right slightly and drive diagonal to the sidewalk and park the vehicle. Upon towing the vehicle it was found that the bolt that holds the damper, controlling the steering had broken. I am currently researching how this bolt could have broken. My vehicle has 111,025 miles and i am the first owner. The vehicle is undriveable.
I was driving from daughter bus stop after leaving the hospital and it just was shaking or felt funny then brake light and battery light came on andtook to parking lot called mechanic told me crank shaft was broke reported to kia as well.

I was traveling north on white bridge road in westnashville when a car ran a stop sign hitting me on the passenger side, which totaled my car the impact was so hard that it knocked the car several feet facing the opposite direction. The air bags did not deploy during the crash neither driver or passenger side.
While driving my 2005 kia sorento, was coming to a stop, the right side of the vehicle dropped and the rear end shifted, the tire started rubbing on the body. Got it under control and pulled over. Checked under vehicle and found the frame was rusted and the control arm broke off of the frame. Had to get it towed.
Went to get the kia checked out for a problem with transmission at the kia dealership and they told me the back frame and suspension were so rotted out they could not put on a lift to see the transmission.in my finding there are tons of complaints about this problem.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal rattling noise and the vehicle shook. The failure recurred on several occasions. Complete brake failure while driving about 50 mph. Repair shop informs that the trailing arm support brackets and rear of the frame are so badly corroded that the axle was dislodged from the frame. The movement of the axle severed a brake line, which is secured to the cross member structure. Corrosion was from the inside out. On visual inspection the metal in the cross member and brackets appeared to be sound, but we were able to peal away the structure with our fingers. This type of corrosion begins years before failure.
I was driving down the highway with my 7 month oldbaby in the backseat in his child seat. I was about 10 miles into my drive when i heard a puff and a small whistle of air. I thought my passenger window had come down some or maybe i had left the door opened and it was letting air in. When i tried to put my ear closer to the sound i heard it coming from the top of my car. I turned to the sunroof cover and slid it open slightly to see what happened and i immediately noticed the whole glass was cracked. As i kept going down the road i could hear small pieces of glass falling off and into the slot where the sunroof slides into. If i would have had that open there could have been sharp pieces of glass that could have fallen onto my baby.
Front passenger door will not (open) from inside of vehicle..it locks and unlocks but door openingconnection link is not opening.this presents a crash and fire hazard as passengers must either open the window and reach out to open or have someone outside open the door!had it repaired and it broke again shortly after repair.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brackets on the rear end of the vehicle were corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000. The vin was not available.
A truck hauling cars came through my neighborhood and as he was turning he hit my car with the trailer when my vehicle was parked and did not stop.
Took my 2005 kia sorento in for a state inspection mechanic pulls me in the shop and shows me the problem left rear upper control arm bracket is completely rotted off and the right side is not far behind.i am a welder fabricator by trade so i look at the axke housing and instantly see the issue the brackets where welded on with no drain holes there is basically a cup created by the bracket that is about 3 inches deep that holds every bit of water that gets thrown in there this is a manufactures design flaw brilliant engineers that never think about the real world this should be a recall oh the rest of the axle housing is barely rusty.
I have an 05 kia sorento lx. I took it to my auto repair to day to have a tire repair done.my mechanic ask me to come into the shop to see an issue once it was on the lift.the rear upper control arm bracket on the driver's side had completely rusted away and was detached from the rear axle housing.the bracket on the passenger's side was heavily rusted but had not yet broken.the repair suggested was to replace the entire rear axle anddifferential housing .i did some researched on the nhtsa site and the internet and found that this is a problem that has been reported several times and in fact was probably caused by how the bracket had been constructed with no drain holes.iss the nhtsa or kia going to issue a recall?i saw in my research that this was done by kia in the united kingdom. The attached pictures show the damage and also a picture of the front suspension to show this is limited to the rear and not a total suspension issue.
While examining the rear suspension prior to replacing the shocks i saw that the upper control arm brackets on the rear axle are badly rusted.the left is slightly worse.i do not live in a rust belt area.western washington to be specific.there is no other rust or corrosion on this car.there is a design flaw that allows water to stay in the area above the axle and corrode the bracket.when the bracket breaks the rear axle is no longer held in place.the car will be very difficult to steer and the wheels could lock up. The addition of a weep hole and an anti-corrosion coating would have prevented this.there are reports here on nhtsa where these brackets have rotted away and failed causing loss of control of the vehicle.this is a known design flaw that is just now appearing on the older cars. There are a multitude of comments on the internet worldwide.there will eventually be more of these failures and there is a potential for fatal accidents from loss of vehicle control.in the uk kia has acknowledged the problem and has been repairing sorentos for free since 2013.kia usa needs to acknowledge this design flaw and issue a recall before people are killed.
To whom it may concern:on thursday april 3, 2014, i brought my kia in for an oil change, the entire rear axle and differential of the vehicle was rusted and rotted all the way through, to the point that the left bracket that is supposed to be welded onto the frame of the car was literally rusted off and hanging. I was told the only thing holding the left side of the car up was a shock. I was then told it would be $1700.00 to replace. I made a call to kia headquarters in california and filed a complaint, because i understand mechanical breakdown, however, the fact that a very important part of the car was completely rusted through is a manufacturing defect, the car was made with cheap metal. I do not feel i should have to pay for something kia did not manufacture properly. Kia denied fault and stated they would not help pay or take responsibility for this. We are not talking about a steering pump needing to be fixed, we are talking about an entire rear end of a car rusting and rotting away in 9 years. This vehicle wsmanufactured with very inexpensive cheap metal. I should not have to pay. This morning i received a phone call from crowley kia stating that they did replace the rear axle, however when they went to connect it to the ebrake system the brackets for that were manufactured wrong by kia and that they were put on backwards. What does that tell you? this car was made cheaply, and i think its a lemon. I would like this to be addressed because i have also seen on some kia forums where people have had the same problem. This is a major safety issue. What if i were driving with my 7 yr twin girls on the highway and the whole rear end just fell off. We would be looking at possibly a very tragic situation. Forget the warranty, look at the manufacturing side of it.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

This is a follow up to nhtsa id numbers, 10819147,10824199,10838525 and 10838531. I further researchedthe crossmember corrosion may cause loose control arm in the kia sorento's and found that in europe kia issued the attached service bulletin to attempt to correct this issue before the brackets rusted out.based on kia sorento vehicle sales in the us from 2002 to 2008 (the production range noted on the attached service bulletin) this issue could possibly affect up to approx. 266,000 vehicles.
I brought my vehicle in for a regular yearly inspection. Told my mechanic it had been making a weird noise in the rear, thought maybe i needed break pads. Turns out my vehicle was making noise due to as suspension issue. He explained that the upper control arm bracket welded to the rear axle on both side are rotted right through/off. Knowledgeable mechanic said he didn't feel comfortable making something to replace it. Kia does not even sell the part. I called corporate and they won't do anything to help. Told me to find a salvage yard and replace it that way. Horrible quality!passenger side let go first.
This is a follow up to complaint # 10819147. After taking the car to the dealer i was told by kia usa it was out of warranty and would not be repaired, the repair estimate for parts only was between $1,300 and $3,000.i had informed kia usa that they were doing the repairs ithe uk, but apparently it did not matter to them.further follow up showed that kia in the uk program ends in april2016. Since this is a design safety issue that is being addressed in other countries, is the nhtsa going to take any action?
Went to get the kia checked out for a problem with transmission at the kia dealership and they told me the back frame and suspension were so rotted out they could not put on a lift to see the transmission.in my finding there are tons of complaints about this problem.
This is a follow up to nhtsa id numbers, 10819147,10824199 and 10838525.in researching the crossmember corrosion may cause loose control arm in the kia sorento's i found that there was a nhtsa campaign number: 13v354000hyundai motor company ( kia's parent company) for the exact same issue. Was there an investigationinto the kia sorento's at the time?

Brackets that hold the rear end upper control arms are completely rusted into two useless pieces. Only the lower control arms and side link or canard is holding the rear end in place, any torque applied could potentially twist the rear causing catastrophic damage, obviously the metal is bad and with no weep holessalt, water, etc. Hold in bracket. I thought the handling felt bad, and heard slight, ever so slight clunking, would never have suspected this until too late except i was checking brake pads and noticed thedisconnected suspension, now must grind off old brackets, fabricate new ones and weld on after freeing up upper control arm bolts, not your normal mechanic work on a 6 year old car,,[xxx],,i fear what could happen to the unsuspecting normal person,,stay well clear of any sorento's you see on the road, and by all means inform any owners of these to check their upper control arms brackets. This should be a factory recall. Why should we (i) have to repair or junk an otherwise good car. P.s. Any and all garages that inspect this car should be failing them and if there not they aren't looking at the suspension well enough, every one i checked, three so far are in variously ill shape, not complete failure but so close, to call themunsafe again [xxx] metal brackets, other pieces of metal close by look brand new, thanks, i feel better now, time to recall.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I took my 2005 kia sorento in for regular maintenance as i always do. Then i was brought into the garage at the kia dealership, where my car was up on a lift and shown nothing but complete rust/rot on the rear axel. The bracket on the left side completely rusted through and had broken awayfrom the frame of the car. Now, how does a car rust in 9 years? this is a manufacturer default with them using cheap metal. Sorry! cars should not rust out in 9 years. So, now i have to spend $1700.00 to replace it. That doesn't include the cost of the oil change and replacing the coolant bucket because it has a hole. Oh, and my rental car. I'm mad and upset! up until now, i have been a huge advocate for kia, not anymore. Btw....this isn't the first time i've had to put over $1000.00 into this car that i have only owned for two years. Thanks kia!!!!
I brought my vehicle for a coolant leak. My mechanic asked that i come over to look at underneath the vehicle.the rear drivers side control arm was no longer attached to the rear axle.he explained that the upper control arm bracket welded to the rear axle on driver siderotted right through, causing the control arm to come off.i called kia and they won't do anything to help. This problem has been addressed in the uk and domestically for hyundia santa fe.so basicly i have a 2005 kia with 93,000 miles on it that is unsafe to drive due to a design defect.both kia and dealer said they would do nothing.
This is a follow up to nhtsa id number's 10819147 & 10824199.after filing vsc 10824199, i was contacted by a kia america representative from california.she requested a copy of my original bill of sale, the vehicle registration and the repair estimate from the dealer to repair the repair upper control arm brackets.she did not request any other documentation or pictures. She said she would review the case and speal to the dealer and depending on the cost would either have the repair completed or purchase the car to be scrapped for kbv.i received a call today and was informed that the repair would cost at least $3,000 and because the vehicle was 10 years old andnot in the repair program ( i assume that was being done in the uk) kia would offer me $1,500 for the car. I asked if the vehicle was safe to drive in it's present condition and was told i should contact the dealer. I told the representative that the dealer did not give me any warnings when the estimate was completed.i was also told that "at least i had gotten 10 years of use out of the vehicle".seeing as there is still a repair program in effect in the united kingdom for this defect is the ntsb going to require kia yo make these repairs in the us?

Vehicle was making noise due to as suspension issue. Upper control arm bracket welded to the rear axle on both side are rotted right through/off. Driver side let go first. This is definitely an issue that should be a recall. This car has low miles and is not eventen years old. Poor quality metal. I hope this becomes a recall.
I have an 05 kia sorento lx. When i was driving i noticed that my car kept making a grinding sound when making a left, and then i also noticed that it was rattling a lot when hitting bumps and just driving down the road.i took the vehicle into my personal mechanic whom i've been using for years and trust to the highest, and he told me that the entire frame was rusted through, with multiple holes and it was unsafe to drive and the cost to repair is was extremely high.he told me to take it to kia to see if there were any recalls or anything they could do because a barely 10 year old car shouldn't be having this issue, and it's a safety issue. I took it to the kia dealership, they inspected the car, and upon their inspection they said, "frame is rusting and has many holes, is unsafe. Advise customer to drive at own risk since it could break at any time. Entire frame and rear end would need to be replaced. Found several areas where the fame has rotted through, and the rear axle is broken where the control arm attaches. Advise getting a new car". To me, this is a huge safety concern - and i've seen multiple complaints about this same issue.kia isn't doing anything to help with the situation, and quoted me way more than the car is worth to fix it.i just bought this car 2 years ago used from a dealership, and if this is an issue now, then it was an issue when they sold me the time of purchase.they clearly said that the car was unsafe to drive, and yet they're going to let their customers risk their lives instead of trying to help them.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle was corroded under the rear axle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear axle was corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The crankshaft bolt broke on my 2005 kia sorento.i have found a site where several people have complained of this happening.it also says that a recall for this problem was done on the 2003 sorentos, but not the 2005.listed below is where i found the other complaints.

I was driving, about 45mph, i noticed light smoke coming from the hood. When i looked at my temperature gage it was in the middle, saud it was fine. I drove about ten more minutes since the smoke stopped.about ten minutes after i got to my destination , there was so much smoke coming out from the hood and water was everywhere.the thermostat and radiator were replaced. Everyday i drive it, there's a river of water coming from under the suv. I had it in the shop two days prior to this incident and everything tested fine. It's been a huge mess.

Battery and brake light came on and lost power steering control, power steering belt came off and ac belt had to get towed home. When i went under the hood noticed the damper pulley was wobbly the bolt in the middle was still in place had this happen twice before issue was fixed and it happened again. Can't afford to take to a professional mechanic because i'm a single mother of 4 children and i need my car running. I was driving into a shopping plaza parking lot when it happened and as i turned in that's when this happened.
Driving on highway when crankshaft pulley broke off causing belts to shred and come off. Lost all power steering and engine shut down!
The drive shaft pulley fell off not only on mine i know 2 others that drive a kia and theirs fell off also

I was sitting at a drug store drive thru when a loud screeching noise was heard from the front of the car.i pulled out of line and into a parking space.the car was towed and the mechanic reported that the crankshaft pulley bolt had sheared off in the engine.upon researching my options (the repair cost is enormous, and the vehicle may be junked due to damage to the engine) i have learned that this is a continuing problem with sorentos, (earlier models have been recalled due to this problem) but kia refuses toacknowledge or fix this problem for the 2005 models.this is a major safety issue in my opinion due to the fact that if the bolt breaks or shears while you are driving at any speed, you lose the ability to steer or control the car.a call to our local dealer confirmed that they had had several come in with the same problem, and at this time kia is doing nothing.if this problem existed in earlier models, i do not understand why this has not been fixed by kia.
Driver side axle broke in june 2015 and july 9, 2015 passenger side axle cracked and passenger side hub assembly went bad. Making a rattling, metal grinding noise. When the sorento was raised up the whole underneath is rusted out. Im lucky i didnt have a major accident. Should be recalled for safety issues.
Twice after driving our 2005 kia sorrento at highway speeds of approx 75 mph, thenslowing down and then heading uphill car would not shift into the appropriate gear and could only go about 45 mph.luckily, the first time we were able to get car to side of road - we let it rest a while and then it was ok.the second time we again had the gas pedal all the way to the floor going uphill but it only did about 35- 45.when we reached the top of the hill the car picked up speed and ran normally for the rest of the trip as if nothing happened.both times cruise control was on - but not in active use and the ac was on.both times we immediately turned ac off but it made no difference.we asked local kia dealer to check on it they adjusted the throttle control sensor.the check engine light did not come on, so there was no incident code.they said they couldn't be sure what caused it.we asked if it would ever happen again and they could not guarantee it would not.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sorento. While idling, the vehicle accelerated to 5 mph on its own. The contact applied excessive pressure to the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to stop.

Symptoms, vehicle dies when slowing down wont stay running, car one time idled up on it own at a very high acceleration, scared me, i had to tap the gas pedal it didn't work, then turn off ignition switch to stop car.
2005 kia sorento. Consumer writes in regards to defroster switch malfunction *tgwthe consumer stated the vehicle would not start.the mechanic stated the dash wiring had melted and the relay for the front windshield defroster was stuck in the open position.
