Airbags not working properly during accidents. This has caused all insurance companies to remove the discounts for airbags. This need to be investigated due to the fact several injuries have occurred because of this problem. If the airbags fail during the time when they are needed most then the manufacturer has a duty to fix this problem.

I bought a 2004 kia sorento in 2006 finished paying for it in 2010,over the years i have had to change the lights so many times i cant count,i have had topaint it twice, then the driving shaft broke, the compressor was changed twice, the cd player works on and off the air bags light came on and stayed for months on end the engine light does the same and most recently there is smoke coming from the engine, i am having to stop park and let it cool off before continuing on my journey, at the moment i got scared and i nowi have my vehicle parked at home because i am scared to drive it, it is a shame and i am very upset. Is there anyone out there who is trying to do something about these problems us consumers are having? i own my vehicle and has a clean title and would like to trade in or sell but with all these problems how can i pass it on to someone else? i am asking someone from kia to do the responsible thing and giveus some answers before someone loses their life, that is if it hasn't happened already. Don't let this be toyota.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.while driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions, the engine stalled unexpectedly and restarted after several attempts.the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and remained lit until the engine was turned off.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the manifold gasket failed.the vehicle was repaired under warranty.on six separate occasions, the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer for identical failures, but there were no resolutions.the contact was responsible for the repair expense because the warranty expired.the authorized dealer replaced the crankshaft, crankshaft sensor, timing belt, and drive belt. The failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 66,000. Updated 12/23/08the air bag illuminated and would not go out, even when someone was seated in. The headlight was blown, the rear hatch would not stay up. The dealer had to order hood struts. Updated 12/23/08.

While approaching to anintersection the kia crash the front left side to the back of a land rover, and despite the big impact and damages the air bags didn't opened endangered the life of my daughter. I have photos of the big impact as of the fact that the air bags didn't opened.

The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact stated that the brake lights were repaired; however, the air bag was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Takata recall air bag light is on the dash can i get this replaced for no charge light stays on all the time.

2004 kia sorento. Rollover. Kia says that the air bags are turned off in a roll over not when hit on the side! what good are they than? this information is not given when the kias are purchased.... Research needs to be done for how often it occurs and that there may be more rollovers than side impatcts, why they rollover soo many times, and that there are many complaints for other kias that the airbags have not deployed in crashes. Consequences were that the driver died this time due to the air bags did not deploy! there was only one person the driver in the kia, the crash was when the vehicle hit the rock and than the ground 15 times.

My air bag light turned on. It turned on just under a 100,000 miles. I looked around on line and alot of people are complaininf about this same issue with the same make and year. It will not pass inspection because of it and that it will cost me at least $200 to fix it.

Battery was low and then the air bag warning light was on. The battery was replaced and the light still on. Looking online and find out this issue is typical on all kia sorentos. Wondering why this issue is not being recall. Called dealer and they mentioned that a $130 diagnose test needs to be paid in order to know what is the problem.

"takatarecall"i bought this car just recently and the drivers side air bag stays on all the time there have been recalls but not on my car is it safe to drive this like this or is it dangerous and the factory should send out a recall on this right !

The side airbags on our 2004 kia sorento did not deploy in a side impact with a utility (electric) pole.car slid from road in a sudden hail storm and slid passenger side into the pole.speed when control of car was lost, approx 45 mph.the impact broke the pole into 4 pieces and totaled the car.the impact was in the rear passenger side door, just infront of theright rear tire.the damage to the car went all the way to the frame.

The electrical system goes haywire. We will be driving along and the interior lights come on, the front doors open lights come on and starts buzzing and so does the the locking mechanism on the doors. We check to make sure the doors are closed properly but they always are. This is when the car is in motion usually but sometimes while stationary as well. Sometimes the doors unlock too. We have no idea what caused this but feel it is a safety hazard as well as a nuisance while driving. It never seems to matter if you are driving straight or turning.. We haven't taken it anywhere for repairs yet, because it seems to be electrical and know thatit can be expensive.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.while driving 65 mph she could smell something burning.the vehicle was pulled over and turned off.there was smoke coming from under the hood.the check engine warning indicator light was illuminated.there was fluid leaking under the vehicle and catching fire as it hit the ground.the vehicle burst into flames within 5 minutes.the fire department extinguished the fire.the vehicle was towed to a tow yard, the cause of the failure was undetermined.the current and failure mileages were 60,000.

Repeated problems with check engine light, keep giving evap code, replacedevap canister solenoid with kit, headlights, taillights, clock loses time, .

I was driving approximately 35-40 mph and my car suddenly lost power with all the dash lights briefly coming on (battery, oil, etc.). Fortunately i was close to a side street and was able to make a hard turn and coast to the curb. I waited a minute and was able to restart the vehicle. I drove home and there was one more incident when the car started to lose power (lights dimmed) however i pushed on the gas and it powered up again.i have had the lights dim and the car seemingly lose power several times. Just prior to this the car typically hesitates when you are going full speed and then the dimming occurs. I've had my car idle at stop signs and at train crossings and have not experienced any power loss. It always seems to happen while driving 35-40 mph or more. I've had it happen while driving 60-70 mph on the highway.i had a diagnostic run on the car at the dealership with no concerning results. I've had a mechanic i trust check the alternator, the spark plugs, flush the coolant, put in fuel cleaner, etc. And he cannot locate the problem.

Oct, 2016 - i am the orignal owner of the vehicle and had maintained regular maintainence on the vehicle. I had just put $700 of new tires on vehicle and had a routine oil change and fluid check before we left for our vacation. I never had any issues with the vehicle and i still own. The vehicle does not run but i wanted to know what started the fire. My daughter and i were headed out of town for a week, about 200 miles into the commute the front of the vehicle began to smoke from under the hood, we were traveling at 55-60 mph. As i was exiting the 421 highway flames began coming out from around hood and the paint on the hood began to bubble up due to heat. I immediately called the fire dept, as i was driving, pulled onto the shoulder and immediately removed my daughter and our belongings from the vehicle and distanced ourselves from the vehicle. When the fire dept arrived they put the flames out and the vehicle was transported to a local shop, i had the vehicle towed back to our home city upon departure from our vacation. Upon further observation i was able to see the fire started in the area closest to where the engine meets the dash on the drivers side and continued to spread from that point to the front of the vehicle and under on the drivers side.

I was on my way to work on tuesday, march 3, 2015. It was about 7:30/7:40 a.m. I was driving my 2004 kia sorento ex. I had just driven through st. Peter, mn on hwy 169 south on my way to mankato and was starting to pick up my speed as the speed limit increases as you leave town. All of a sudden, without warning, my vehicle just shut down. The "dummy lights" all lit up. I had no power steering, no brakes, no accelerator - nothing was working. Thank goodness the vehicle, because there was no power, slowed to a stop within a short period of time. I was able to pull over without a collision and no one was hurt. I put it in park and turned the key to the off position. I tried to see if it would start again and absolutely nothing happened when i turned the key.i called aaa and the sorento was towed to the nearest mechanic shop. Without investing too much time in it because i didn't want a huge bill, the mechanic told me that it has electrical power - has good power to the starter, but the engine does not rotate. They could not even physically rotate the engine. He told me that regardless of what it was, it would be very expensive to repair it because, at this point, they have no idea what is wrong with it. That's when i got on facebook and started asking if anyone had any ideas of what could be wrong and a friend told me about the kia sorento engine defect class action lawsuit. I believe my 2004 kia sorento ex is affected by this engine defect. It was dangerous to be driving and i am thankful i was not on a busy freeway. As this just happened 3 days ago, i do not know what i am going to do with this sorento. I would like to have it fixed, but cannot afford to do it. It is still sitting in the parking lot at the mechanics in st. Peter where aaa towed it to.

Summary:update to below problem i bought my sorento in 2004, new. I replaced the coolant reservoir at 61000 miles due to overheating, replaced the low beam headlight bulbs on 4 occasions, tail lights on 2 occasions. My vehicle, 5 speed manual transmission, started to have a roaring noise approx. 6 months ago and the u-joints were replaced. It still roars. It quit running on 2-16-12 while i was driving, but restarted. It finally quit again and would not restart on 2-17-12. Check engine light indicate a fuel pressure sensor problem, but mechanic says this should not cause the problem i presently have. It has been in the shop since 2-18-12. The mechanic said it started for him. I insisted he let it run for a while and see what happens. Sure enough, it quit. Kia mechanic told me it may be a crank or cam sensor issue. Other problems--front dome light off and on at will, rear one works, clock on and off at will, vehicle hums loudly when driving for a while. It has been a reliable vehicle for the most part, but when there is an issue, it is hard to detect.above work was completed at a cost of 1126,00.but now crankshaft bolt broke while driving costingdamage to engine heads.vehicle went back into shop and is still waiting repairs.kia owes it customers better service and must pay repair cost and take responsibility for the faulty crankshaft bolts they provide to the mechanics .

I bought my 04 sorento from my aunt who was the only owner. It had a power steering issue at that time which took several attenpts to fix.about a month later we we visiting family and had to turn around. Upon stopping we noticed smoke from the engine compartment so i grabbed my 4 y/o daughter out of the car and by boyfriend opened the hood to find a small fire on opposite side fro where battery is. Once fire was put out we drove .5 miles on a city rd to family. The power steering was gone at that time as well. 10/13/19 -the directional worked all day and come night time when i came out from the store and started vehicle they did not work. The next day they worked finehowever, on 10/14/19 - i started the car in am and there was a squeaky belt. I hit the gas pedal quickly and noise went away.then while driving, the battery and brake indicator lights came on the dash and stayed on so i pulled over and shut car off. Iwas driving my daughter to the park a mile away from home when the battery and brake indicator lights came on again.i turned car off for a few minutes and when i restarted it the lights were off. I went to turn around to go home and the steering completely failed so it was extremely difficult and dangerous. I have not driven it or started it since. My mechanic camt to my home 2 days in a row and was convinced it was crankshaft bolt that snapped. He got it into his shop the following week on friday 10/26/19 and called a short while later informing me that it was in fact the crankshaft bolt that snapped deep in the shaft and the crankshaft would need to be replaced for a cost of around $3000. I called a few other places and they said the engine would need replacing which would coat around the same. My daughter and i now have no vehicle and are walking her to school which will be difficult come winter months.

February 21, 2013los angeles, ca electrical i bought my kia brand new. I have had several problems: complaint1: i am writing this complaint against kia motors who willingly knows of issues with its fuel systems in all 2004 kia sorentos. Even looking online you see thousands of kia owners who have had the sensor go out on this model car after the cars 100000 warranty, and then kia claims it is past the warranty they have and there is nothing they can do. This causes the gas to always read incorrectly even with a full tank the car reads "e"i have to keep putting gas in the car in fear of running out of gas.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. Within less than 30 days of owning the vehicle, the contact stated that the fuel gauge on the instrument cluster continued to indicate full whether the contact refueled the vehicle or not. Also, when the air conditioner was turned off, smoke emitted into the interior of the vehicle and under the hood. The contact exited the vehicle and lifted the hood to fan away the smoke. The contact drove the vehicle to her job. Another consumer called the fire department because the vehicle erupted into flames. The fire department extinguished the flames. Neither a fire nor a police report was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that they had to replace the headlights on the vehicle 74 times. The contact also stated that they had to purchase a new battery every year. The contact stated that every time the vehicle hit a bump she could hear the electrical system surging and the lights began to flicker. The dealer stated that they could not find anything wrong with the headlights or the electrical system. The failure and current mileages were 12000.

Fan relay sensor is faulty. All the electrical system is is questionable, from headlights always needing replacement to dash lights that turn on or off at any given time. My newest issue is with the heater, it will only blow warmed air if the motor is being rev'd..temp is warm on engine but if i am driving down hill, it will feel like air conditioner instead. For a few months my driver side door would open from inside only. Magically it has resolved that one and only issue...

Was driving down the road at 55 power steering went car lost power lights went crazy car shut down. I almost wrecked harmonic balancer fell into pieces all pulley belts and pin have to be replaced. I just got this car i have a payment on it. Going to cost 1200 to fix. This is on top of it sputtering and spottying. Replace head lights the radio glitchesthe air bag light is on all the time and if u turn the interior dash lights up it turns the interior lights on.over drive button does not work and transmission lags... I have read al these complaints over and over again why isn't anyone forcing a recall? these are serious issues i almost got rear ended and the electrical problem could cause fire.... Someone is going to end up very hurt if kia is not forced to fix these. Could u imagine this happening on a thru way?

I have a 2004 kia sorrento which i purchased new. It currently had 64,000 mile and i have kept up with all maintenance items and have had them performed by kia service in the dealership.while i have had some mechanical problems with the car (bad lifters, valves, radiator leaks, etc), my main issue is the electrical system. To date, i have replaced various brake light bulbs, headlight bulbs, dome light bulb and my radio unexplainable turns on/off. While i have dealt with these issues as they arise, my car has now turned of while driving on the road twice. On both occasions, all of the car lights, displays, etc, turn off completely and the car simply coasts while off. One of the occurrences i was on the interstate going 65 mph, and the car shut down. Both times i pull to the side of the road and when i turned the key, it started again. My obvious concern is that of safety as it relates to the various electrical problems (which are no longer covered under warranty) which this car has had. While i cannot speak for other kia owners, there are a host of forums which relate to similar issues. Additionally, the dealerships themselves are aware of the electrical issues, as noted to me personally by one of the technicians. I am requesting for kia to provide the level of customer service which we (as kia owners) have expected. The electrical problems are well documented and should be addressed. Furthermore, i am looking for assistance in my personal situation now that my car is only 4,000 out of warranty and has the electrical issues and more importantly the hazardous problem of shutting down.i am more that happy to provide any records which will document the problems detailed above. Also, i am available anytime to discuss further if needed.thank you in advance for your customer service.

I purchased a 2004 kia sorento two years ago.it was not long before i began to experience numerous problems with my vehicle.tail lights/brake lights burning out frequently which is a major safety issue since i deliver rural usda mail.now my transmission is broken!!kia-duluth asked if i had had the transmission flushed at the specified mileage and that they will need verification of this.(i knew immediately their objective was to not honor their warranty (10 years/100,000 mile warranty if i had not flushed the transmission).i faxed them the receipt indicating the transmission had been flushed.i contacted kia-duluth the following day because i had not heard from them.he said he had not heard back from kia yet to authorize the repair.this vehicle has caused me so much lost work time, stress and has been emotionally draining for the past two years.kia's deceptive advertising -i believed that since kia was offering a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, their vehicle must be really good.boy was i wrong!kia is building vehicles with defective parts and materials and has set-up their warranty plan to be able to void them from having to honor their warranty plan and having any responsibility.for further complaints on kia vehicles, please contact the better business bureau and attorney general offices across the country and you will find numerous complaints.numerous complaints by consumers are also located at the following websites:www.my3cents.com and www.consumeraffairs.com.kia needs to be investigated and put a stop to their scamming and defrauding the consumer and before someone gets seriously hurt or killed due to numerous defective parts in their vehicles.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that the fan relay fuse had to be removed in order to get the fan to stop running. The contact had taken the vehicle to several mechanics for service of electrical problems however, the mechanics were never able to diagnose the exact cause of the failure.the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 138,000.

My sister purchased this vehicle new and has had nothing but problems with it and problems with dealership/kia honoring their 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. She purchased this vehicle believing she would be driving a quality vehicle (advertising 10 year/100,000 mile warranty she assumed it must be of high quality because who would offer that kind of warranty if it was junk....wrong!)she has had nothing but stress, financial expense, lost work time, and a battle of her life trying to seek consumer justice...dealership, kia motors, lemon law requires a part to fail four times, attorney generals office, conciliation court, writing to ruukivina, oberstar, and most recently amy klobuchar...all failed.no one has said that they will investigate kia and protect the consumers from this fraudulent automobile manufacturer.why?the problems she has had with her vehicle consist of rust on the tailgate and rear doors just a few months after purchasing, all kinds of electrical problems from headlights and tail lights burning out numerous times, the digital dash for radio and heater going black, the heater not work, a relay switch for fan failed, foam between windshield and frame coming out tapping on the window, a problem with the coolant reservoir, the rear driveshaft failed, the transmission had to be replaced and most recently the transfer case.safety issues and concerns would be with tail lights and headlights burning out prematurely and frequently and the crankshaft bolt broke causing to loose all ability to steer the vehicle.there are probably other problems she has had with the vehicle but i do not recall at this time.

I have a 2004 kia sorrento with 57,000 miles. I have owned it for 2 years.the headlights and brake lights continuously go out.i have replaced each headlight 4 times in the past year and the brake lights have been replaced 5 times in the past year.this is a safety hazard as i never know when my brake lights are out unless someone stops and tells me.

My 2004 kia sorento has an intermittent check engine light that displays error code p0446.the light comes on and off as it pleases.there is a tsb for this particular problem, but there are no details.this intermittent light is causing my vehicle to fail it's smog inspection.i have replaced the gas cap as indicated but this did not fix the problem.

When shutting off the engine the cooling fan stays running.if this is not noticed it will run until the battery dies and then the vehicle will need jumped.as i was researching on the internet it looks like there are issues with relays in kia's from 2003 to 2006.this problem happens at least once a month sometimes more.this time the battery had to be disconnected to get the fan to shut off..this is a safety issue that needs to be researched farther in regards to how often this happens.i have not taken my kia to a mechanic yet due to the fact it is very costly to track an electrical problem.this problem does not happen all the time but if you are unaware of this problem you may go to start your car and it does not run.there are a high and low fan on this kia.both of the fans are running but the high fan is almost silent.if this problem has been going on for at least four years there should be some way to hold the manufacturer responsible.thank you for your time..

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact noticed smoke and flames underneath the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 161,000.

In less than a year consumer headlight went out and the back hatch window was leaking inside the vehicle every time it rained. The headlight assembly was replaced on november 30, 2004 and five minutes after the new bulb was installed it shattered. On that same date the consumer experienced problem with the clock and hvac indicators.updated 03/30/07.

Picked up vehicle after having rear support bearings repaireddriving back home at 65mph on i-35/texas 410 eaststarted to experience strong smell of exhaust fumes in passenger compartment.during drive home started to rain, activated wipers, drivers side wiper blade fell off during rainstormhad to open driver side window to navigate!upon arrival at home noticed, smoke coming from engine compartment (passengers side) andsmoke underneath vehicle from catalytic converter.looked underneath vehicle and catalytic converter, was smoking, inside engine compartment a hose at the rear of the engine compartment (sorry not a mechanic) had a hole in it and was smoking also?vehicle has not been driven since 12/7/12, vehicle was purchased 10/4/12, has limited warranty.

2004 kia sorento - loss of power, brake and battery lights illuminated, vehicle stalled.crank bolt failure.happened 3 times; replaced/fixed 3 times.a letter to kia being sent at the time this wasbeing written.

The original battery failed at 2 1/2 years and the replacement battery (kia battery) failed after only 1 1/2 years.i have replaced the headlights (4 times), fog lights (2 times), tail lights (2 times), and license plate light.electrical system check showed no problems that could be causing all of these failures.

On monday, 06-30-08, at about 1400 hours, i parked my vehicle a 2004 kia sorrento 4x4 ex with approx. 80,000 plus miles.shortly after parking this vehicle i entered a baskin and robins to have an ice cream cone.i was informed by frantic passerby's that a vehicle was on fire.i took a look outside and was shocked to see that my vehicle mentioned above was smoking and flaming up.this fire appeared to start on the passenger side of my vehicle near the power steering pump and alternator.my vehicle had been operating fine until this incident occurred and only went to the dealership for routine servicing under warranty.the honolulu police andfire departments were notified and reports documented under honolulu police department report #08-242969 and the honolulu fire department report #24891.fire and police officials informed me that a possible fuel line malfunction is a possibility but cause of this incident is unknown at this time.

200 miles from home, out of the blue, car acted like it was misfiring then lost power and died on highway at highway speeds. Car would not turn over or crank. Called tow truck to bring vehicle home for $490.00 and mechanic came out and hooked up machine to it and code came out crankshaft position sensor system. Check engine light wasn't on at all, until we got it home and it started up like no problem, but then died again. Weren't the crankshaft bolts already recalled and fixed?! maintenance schedule always kept up to date and wouldn't you know, happened one month to the day that my extended warranty expired! still haven't had it to shop, can't afford to bring it in after having it towed 200 miles, others thinks it can be fuel filter/pump or the brain, ecm. Who knows. Sitting with no vehicle is so much fun, thanks, kia!

Mycompliant while refueling the vehicle it spills back out fuel. Spitting me, the side of the vehicle and sidewalk.constant engine light on.

Harmonic balancer pulley bolt broke.very bad design.driving down the road it broke offcausing loss of power steering.bolt snapped off inside crankshaft.

I was driving down the highway when the car started stalling the it picked up. Little ways down the highway the car felt like it was dragging then the belt broke i pulled it over. When reach the shop the mechanic said the crank shaftpulley broke apart.

I have fixed my pulley bolt 3 time and it keep braking and i don't know what else to do to fix the problem

I brought a 2004 kia sorento used in june 2015 with 96,000 miles on it and noticed the engine was making noise after a short time it wasent that bad i thought, until it started getting worse. Then i took it in to the kia dealership and got a call from them and i was told the blancer pulley bolt broke off in the crankshaft and was a big issue and they would let me know if they could get it out, they did but found the sprocket was damaged also, i went online to see if their was a recall and found many kia owners have had this issue. I had to pay 1300 dollars to get this fixed because of a bad part by kia. I'm very upset.

Crank shaft bolt issues.i am on my 3rd harmonic balancer and now my mechanic is saying it is the crank shaft bolt.. I called a&b kia and they said no issues .i have received a claim letter for this issue and a&b kia is refusing to correct this issue.

The crankshaft bolt broke.this has been a huge problem and is a recall in the 2003 kia sorento's.it should also be recalled for 2004 immediately!

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. While stationary, the vehicle caught fire without warning. The contact extinguished the fire. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 170,000.

I was driving our 2004 kia sorento with my 3 young children in the car. Driving down a city street at 45 mph the car began to jerk as all the lights flashed on the dashboard. I lost all power, but i was able to cruise to park next to a curb, however the vehicle would not restart. I had it towed to my mechanic. The mechanic found that the crankshaft sprocket, key shaft, damper pulley, and crank bolt all were damaged and needed to be replaced.

Loud crack was heard while driving.lost power steering.pin in the crank pulley snapped and belts stopped turning.car was very difficult to steer and fortunately we were able to get it to the side of the road.this car has a 10 year, 100m mile warranty which expired in september of 2014.dealer contended that this problem, although part of the engine was not covered.

Traveling at 40mph crankshaft bolt broke off inside crankshaft sprocket causing harmonic balancer and belt to fall off. Also had to replace a/c comp, water pump and timing belt due to damage. 1st instance.

On 10-4-2015 i was driving on interstate 80 from hastings, ne to kearney, ne. My girlfriend heard a bang from the engine, shortly after that noise i lost all power. I managed to steer our 2004 kia sorento onto an off ramp. I popped the hood and saw the harmonic balancer and the lower timing sprocket laying on the skid plate. We had her brother-in-law come get us. We put the kia sorento up on his trailer and towed it to a mechanic. The mechanic told us that the crank shaft bolt had sheared off. After fixing this bolt, and putting everything back together he then informed us there was no compression in the engine. It has been sitting every since.

The crankshaft pulley bolt broke and messed up the steering, i was unable to steer the car.this has happened twice now and continues to be a problem as i'm reading the kia forums.

Traveling at 40mph crankshaft bolt broke off inside crankshaft sprocket causing harm balancer and belt to fall off. 2nd instance.

@ 62,894 miles:driving from gas station to home less than 1 mile away, engine made noise and started running rough. Parked car overnight, then drove about 3 miles to closest repair shop. Diagnosed as sheered off crankshaft pin/bolt. Repaired under extended warranty with new parts from kia, but one week later had to be towed in because it happened again. Crankshaft was warped so engine was rebuilt with used crankshaft and new parts from kia.@ 104,595 miles: driving on rural road in heavy traffic, lights on dashboard came on and lost power steering. Speed was 55 mph. Managed to steer car off road without incident. Towed to repair shop.crankshaft pin/bolt sheered off. Cost to repair $895.30.@ 109,885 miles: engine began making clicking noises and lost power steering, etc.crankshaft pin/bolt sheered off.repair not recommended.replacement engine recommended.there is a class action lawsuit pending against kia for this problem. Please search online and you will find there are literally thousands of people who have had this issue with this same vehicle (2002-2009) and many had accidents because of it. Why is this not in the news? kia knows this part is bad, they know this design is bad, and they continue to put band aids on engines rather than fixing them.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, she heard an abnormal ticking noise as the battery and engine warning lights illuminated. In addition, the power steering assist failed. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where it was determined that the vibration dampener had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. The failure and current mileages were 81,000.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, steering became very difficult and the battery, check engine, and brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the catalytic converter and the crank shaft bolt and pin needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 94,186 and the current mileage was approximately 120,000. The vin was not available.

My daughter was driving on highway @ 55 mph with two children ages 2 and 1 year old in january 14. She heard a loud noise and power steering went out. Scared the[xxx] out of her. It took all of her strength to steer it to the side of the highway.the sorento was towed to repair shop and was told the crankshaft bolt (pulley) broke that drives all the other pulleys including the power steering. Half the bolt was still in the engine. It was repaired with a kia updated bolt and remember being told, "this is known to be a problem with this model" . Thank goodness nothing happened to her and my grandchildren. On 21 february, the power steering went out again caused by the same reason as before. What i do not understand is:1. The bolt itself has been recalled but it is obviously not a bolt issue. It is a "design issue" that kia is well aware of and they are ignoring this issue. 2. While in a fast-food drive-thru line, my car shut down.i immediately tried to restart the car and after several attempts, it tried to turn-over, but it didn't start.i didn't want to flood the engine, so i waited a few minutes.when i tried again, it started right up and i headed straight home thinking i must have some water in my gas because no warning lights came on.after talking with my husband, he agreed with my assessment and put some dry gas in the tank.i drove the next day, monday, june 23rd, with no problems, but tuesday, the car shut down again.it took a longer time to restart and then finally i couldn't restart it and had to get it towed to our mechanic who told us that the engine needed to be replaced.he assured us that there was nothing we could have done to prevent this from happening - according to our car mechanic, the cam sensor was actually burnt which led to a catastrophic engine failure.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle lost power and the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the fan and air conditioner. The battery indicator was illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted. This was a recurring failure. The contact stated that the neighbor assisted her with the failure by check under the engine. It was discovered that the air conditioner belt fractured, was on top of the engine block, and the pulley was loose. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was190,000.

They had a recall and a lawsuit on the kia for the pulley bolt keeps breaking and i never got a notice and mine keeps breaking and kia won't do anything about it.

Son heard squealing sound from belts, had belts changed. 1 week later belt came off pulley and never would line up. Repair shop came back saying that it was the crankshaft pulley and that a bolt had broken. After changing timing gears, belts, gaskets and other front end parts end of costing 1500. I then read the problems with this vehicle on line. I called the dealership and becky act like this was the first they had heard of this problem.

While driving on the highway at 65 mph the crankshaft bolt broke, the timing belt and drive belt came loose.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle lost complete power and all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact restarted the vehicle and took it to the dealer for inspection where they advised that the crank shaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Unintended acceleration. Rpm would range from 1000 to as high as 2000 rpm without warning. Iacvalve was replaced and did not resolve the problem. Final diagnosis was cruise control randomly operating. Disconnected cruise cable at the throttle body. Problem ceased. Green light on cruise switch never indicated it was operating. Vehicle was operating as well as stopped at lights when this occurred.

While driving therewas a noise from the engine compartment, power steering failedby the grace of god was able to get the vehicle off ofthe interstate.looked under the hood and seen the crank shaft pulley and bolt laying on the tie rod under close examination the spring pin was sheared off from the timing chain pulley. The first time took the vehicle to kia of brandon florida , inwhich they said other things were wrong with the vehicle as well, the total bill came to around 800.00 dollars. I think they just tightened down the bolts because the crank shaft pulley came off again, went back to kia of brandon and they would not repair it, stating that they were not going to repair the vehicle for free, they wanted to charge another 800.00dollars...so vehicle was taken to a mechanicthat reattached the pulley...and the pulley came off again this time the bolt broke off in the crank shaft, the timing chain sprocket also came off.called the dealership and they are only repairing certain vin numbers of that year.

Traveling a 45mph and crankshaft pulley broke off inside crankshaft sprocket. 3rd instance of same problem.

I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my cars wouldn't turn the battery light came on and it was acting like it was dying. It happens a bout 5 miles from home and when i got it there i told my husband. He looked at it and told me my harmonic balancer was loose and it looked to have snapped the bolt. Now i cannot drive my vehicle until i can get the broken bolt out and get it fixed. I looked up what to do and noticed i am not the only person 28th this problem.

Driving down the road and all of a sudden i have no power and can not go over 25 mph. How safe is that on the highway, especially as i am driving with my kids!!!?? this has happened twice. The 1st time, it self corrected when i went to take it to the dealer to look at. This time, it has not. The lights constantly go off and on at any moments notice (real safe while driving at night)- and remain off for great lengths of time. I have had to replace the fuse that controls the fan in the engine twice already. I would shut the car off and the fan would not turn off unless i popped the hood and pulled the fuse myself and pocketed it until it was time to drive again. Not to mention major rust issues on the body of the vehicle. The cosmetic i can deal with, the losing power while on the highway i cannot. It is just a matter of time until someone is very seriously injured, or killed. The smell of exhaust comes thorugh the vents, even with normal scheduled maintenance. This car is full of dangers and i am shocked there are not recalls of these issues. In particular, the losing power while driving, and the lights turning on and off for no reason. Try googling any of this and you will be amazed how many people are dealing with the same issues. Unbelievable that these complaints have not been taken into serious consideration.

About to get on hwy in nc, red light turned green started driving not even 10 seconds later gas pedal goes straight to floor and sounds like something drops. In the middle of the road car just stops with no warning-right before major hwy. Try to crank the kia, nothing. Again, nothing. Physically push the car off road while others are speeding by-accidnet waiting to happen thank god it didnt. Get it towed home. Sat in yard ever since. Replaced multiple parts. Still does not run..

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact noticed smoke and flames underneath the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 161,000.

While driving home there was a loud screeching noise. Get home to find out that my camshaft pulley is completely loose and broke! this needs to be recalled!!!! completely unsafe to be driving luckily i was only a mile away from home.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. While driving approximately 30 mph, the power steering and brakes suddenly malfunctioned. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the camshaft pulley was faulty and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and the local dealer (quirk kia in brankly, ma) were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 99,000. *ln

I had the vehicle in the dealership just below 100,000 miles.they didn't bother to tell me the transmission control module was messed up and needed replaced.this seems to be an issue with several people.and then to find out this is a dealer only part and over 900.00! i think this was poor customer service and they should've known something was wrong.the gear shift wasn't sitting in drive and not shifting correctly.i doubt i'd ever buy another kia because their service sucks!they don't value their customers and that really makes me uneasy.

I was driving down the expressway when the car engine light came on, the power shut down and the power steering stopped working. I had trouble trying to merge over into a safe lane before the car stopped rolling. I did manage restarting the vehicle to move over to the side of the road before it cut off on me again. Once i was safe i restarted the vehicle and let it run a couple of minutes before i was safe to pull back out. This happen to me a couple of time before but this time it was so unsafe i almost was killed my a 18 wheeler truck. I contact many dealerships to see what code comes up and no code comes up.

In this instance, the car failed to start. However, there were several more incidents concerning the same issues. In those instances, the car would suddenly lose power, stall out and if able to be restarted, could be driven with a lag in the engine a short distance before all the dash lights would turn on and the car would lose power steering. In two instances, the power steering was suddenly lost when making a left turn with a break across oncoming traffic.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, there was a loud noise as the power steering assist failed. The battery warning light and the parking brake light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who stated that the crankshaft detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was reported to the manufacturer. The failure and current mileage was 154,000.

Three times this week i have been traveling 35 miles an hour or less and the car has just turned off. The first time i was in a parking lot and had to push it into a stall (cracking my tail light while doing that quickly to get out of the way.) the second time was turning a corner and it died. The third time i was just entering the freeway on-ramp when it died. It gives no warning other than silence and a last gasp of gas going through. All three times i was able to stop the car, put it in park and restart it. It has been harder and harder to get it started after that. I took it into the mechanic and he cleaned the fuel filter, but it hasn't stopped the problem totally.

I was driving the car when i suddenly started hearing rattling noises from the engine.the power steering stopped working and the steering wheel would not turn.thankfully, i was on a side street with no other traffic.if i had been in traffic or traveling at a higher speed, this would surely have caused a crash.my mechanic says that the crankshaft bolt is sheared off and must be drilled out to be replaced.kia won't cover this expensive repair, says it is not covered by their warranty.after researching this issue, i see that kia is aware of a defect in the bolt and has issued service bulletins and discontinued the bolt, issuing a new part to replace it.there are already numerous complaints on this and other sites due to this issue, spanning several model years.to date, i have not seen a recall from kia.dangerous defect and alarming lack of concern (not to mention customer service) from kia.i would never have bought this car if i had known the gamble i was taking with my family's safety.i hope others will not make the same mistake.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph when the engine completely stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the crank bolt was sheared and the engine hermetic balancer completely detachedfrom the vehicle. The technician advised that the failure was very unusual. The dealer replaced the crank bolt and the owner was responsible for the additional repair expenses. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, there were certain areas the vehicleexterior paint sustained excessive chipping after the defective surface was touched up with paint. Also, the engine overheated and the temperature gauge failed to function correctly, even though the thermostat was replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

2004 kia sorentoleak in a/c coolant bottle. My car was in for a pressure test three weeks before this and it past just fine without any leaks or cracks.on the freeway, over heats, pull over, all the fluid leaks out, engine is dead and must be replaced.just hit 61,000 miles.kia does not offer 100,000 mile coverage unless you are the original owner. I am the second owner and have had the car three months.$5000. Later i have my car back.kia will not honor to do the work because they say it was a long term leak.well, before i purchased the car, kia did all the maintenance on this car for four years..... If it was a long term leak, shouldn't they have caught it?they say no.i also purchased an extended 80,000/3 year warranty when i purchased the car, they also declined my car coverage because they cover nothing due to any overheating. This is really just a complete joke.i did nothing wrong.kia serviced the car for four years.i had the car in three weeks before it blew up and it was tested and filled with fluids.why does this not make any sense???

Cooling system failure cause blown engine without any warning.

Crankshaft pulley bolt - this is a recalled part that was replaced in 2008.snapped off while driving. Thankfully not on the freeway when it happened.replacement is just as faulty as original.many multiple kia owners have reported this problem some have had this same occurrence happen a third time. Obviously, replacement bolt is not working either and cannot survive the stress that is needed to operate safely. This is a costly and timely repair to replace a bolt that should last more than 2 1/2 years. Needs to be recalled and replaced with a better quality bolt. Called kia and they will not repair, state out of 1 1/2 year warranty. 1st year of car ownership, car stalled while turning left with oncoming traffic approaching due to three faulty starter coils. Kia needs to be held responsible for their less than reliable vehicles. Poor quality parts. Electrical system also faulty, headlights and brake lights consistently go out.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.while driving 20 mph, the vehicle began to sputter and hesitate and then it completely shut off.the contact restarted the vehicle and drove to the dealer.the dealer stated that the coolant compartment had a leak and was dripping coolant into the engine compartment, which caused it to hesitate.she called the kia corporate office and was informed that her vehicle was out of warranty and the repair would not be free.the current and failure mileages were 60,537.

I have a 2004 magentis which i heard is like the serento.the timing belt jumped and this took out the motor.up to this i loved my car.kia said there was nothing they could do but replace the engine at my cost and i would not get it back until it was paid for.well being a single mother of 4, still making payments on the car for another 4 more years.needless to say i have a car with no motor and making payments.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.while the vehicle was stationary, the contact noticed that antifreeze was leaking from the tank assembly reservoir.there were no warning indicators prior to the failure.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they replaced the tank assembly.the failure and current mileages were 77,600.updated 09/15/08 the consumer stated the engine coolant storage tank was made out of plastic. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)we have a 2004 kia sorento automobile that had an issue with the crankshaft bolt in sept. 2009. The repair cost over $1000.00. We later found out that there was some kind of "repair campaign" (sc072) for the same issue. When we contacted kia customer service for repair reimbursement we were told our vehicle was manufactured 11 days after the vehicles involved in the recall. Kia offered no grace period and told us there was nothing they could do. On saturday, 5/8/10, the same bolt broke again which renders the vehicle undriveable. If this bolt were to break while the vehicle was operating at highway speed the consequences would be catastrophic. The vehicle has been towed back to bill dodge kia in westbrook, me. Again for repair, and has been documented as kia case # [xxx] . The case was opened by contacting kia customer service (albert) at 800-333-4542, ext. 45060.the kia regional manager for this part of the u.s. Is gary airoldi and kia would not provide any additional contact information for mr. Airoldi.i can't help but wonder if the state of maine shouldn't lead the way in forcing kia motors into a national recall and repair effort for all of their vehicles impacted by this defect and reimburse those who have incurred out of pocket expenses and/or injuries as a result. Our desire is to have the vehicle repaired at no cost (considering the previous repair campaign) and to recoup the $1030.30 spent on the previous repair. Thank you very much for reviewing our inquiry and we appreciate any assistance you can offer.please don't hesitate to also contact me at work at [xxx] .[xxx]

I was driving my children in the summer and my engine began squealing very loudly, the a/c stopped working, and the steering locked up.we took the car to get it fixed and they said the crank shaft bolt in the engine had broken completely.they said the only thing we could do is replace the entire engine, which is $4000.we found someone who replaced the bolt, because we couldn't afford a new engine, and now the heat doesn't work, it still squeals, and our radio completely stopped working as well.we have had nothing but problems with this vehicle, and we are only at 65000 miles.

After already replacing a crankshaft and a speed sensor in my 2004 kia sorento ex, i am now experiencing a knocking sound under the hood.it usually starts while waiting for a stop light but also while driving down the road.my warranty is out and i can't afford to have it worked on at this point.don't ever buy a used kia sorento without checking carfax first!!!!

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.the contact stated that a loose induct control valve fell into the engine, causing the engine to become defective.the dealer and manufacturer were notified, but denied any assistance with repairs to the failure.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 99,648. The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact lost control of the vehicle and it spun out of control. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who stated that the crankshaft bolt broke off in the engine, the pulleys fell off and the two belts broke. The dealer repaired the vehicle but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the vehicle had been repaired already. The check engine light illuminated intermittently.the vehicle had not been repaired again. The contact referenced a manufacturer's recall for the crank shaft bolt. The vehicle was inspected and the diagnosis was a defective crankshaft sensor. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000 and the current mileage was 108,850.

Car was serviced by dealer for four years.i purchase the car, have the coolant water flow tank pressured tested and three weeks later leak or crack in the coolant water flow tank.all liquids leaked out, engine over heated and blew.had to replace the engine.over 6000. To repair.

While driving i suddenly heard a sound coming from my engine and several dashboard lights illuminated.i was able to drive the car to the auto mechanic that works on my car who informed me that it was a crank pulley bolt that had sheared off.the mechanic also informed me this is a very common problem with kias.after doing a lot of internet research i found out that this is true.the car has 135,000 on it.i have spent over $4,000 on repairs on this car in the last year.it seems that everything decided to go this year.i only do highway driving and i am the only owner.i am very careful with my car. Any chance kia will reimburse?

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorrento. The contact was traveling 15 mph when the crankshaft bolt fractured and caused damage to the crank position sensor, timing belt, damper pulley, and the crankshaft sprocket. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was advised that the crankshaft would need to be replaced. The dealer also advised replacing the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage and current mileages were 76,000.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.while driving 65 mph, the power steering failed and the vehicle shut down.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they diagnosed that the radiator water overflow container cracked.as a result, fluid leaked and overheated the engine, which caused it to fail.the engine will need to be replaced at the cost of $11,000.the vehicle has over 60,000 miles; therefore, the manufacturer will not assist.the current and failure mileages were 62,000.

We purchased our sorento used (approx 65k miles)about 3 years ago. Since then, we've had to replace the gas tank ($1500) among other things.this year has been absurd: had to replace the radiator, water pump, computer system (2 months, $4700), brakes ($750) and 2 batteries.2-3 months ago, we noticed a clunking/chunking sound that grew steadily worse.it sounded as if the 4wd was engaging and disengaging every 3 seconds and felt very unsafe at high speeds.i took it to kia of cobb county and was just given a quote friday for a new transfer case, drive shaft, "rear end chunk" (all the service rep could tell me) and 4 new tires.quote for this work ($9767).the transfer case alone was around $5700.this vehicle now has 112k miles and is less than 10 years old.the blue book value is (was) around $5-6000 and we're told it'll take $10,000 to fix it?i called kia's corporate office to ask if this was to be expected at kia.i was told that our vehicle was not under warranty.i said, " i'm just asking if there's anyone at kia headquarters who believes in their product and wants to protect the kia name and you just keep apologizing."the rep responded, "i'm sorry, sir."we've found multiple complaints online from kia owners reporting similar issues (chunking, transfer case, etc).when does this become.a recall issue?a safety issue?

I purchased my car threw a local dealership aap. 8 mo. Ago it had 27,000 at the time of purchase. On 8-4-08 the vehicle had 34,000 miles. I was driving at a speed of app.40 mi. An hour when the car started smoking from the enginethe smoke got thicker . I quickly pulled over into a small parking lot shut off the car + jumped out of the car with my son. In a matter of seconds the car was in flames. After that there was a hose that felldown under the car + was shooting flames from that too. The fire department came + put itout. The dash wascaved in .the car was totaled. I reported this to the dealership + kia corporation. They listened to my complaint with no result and wouldnot take any responsibility for. It.buyers beware.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.the contact stated that the vibration damper on the front of the crank shaft failed. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that there had been a recall, but his vin was not included, even though his vehicle was experiencing the same failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

Summary:i was driving along the interstate at aprox. 65 mph. I heard a ticking noise and looked at the dash. No warning lights my friend asked if the car felt like it was losing speed and it was i immediatly pulled over. Moving to the emergency lane the engine stalled. None of the guages indicated anything wrong , and even after the engine failed the engine check light does not light up, none of the safety indicators light up. The vehicle has 75,000 miles only 13,000 of which i am responsible for. I am not covered under the warranty because i am not the original owner which is ridicualous in itself because the warranty should cover mileage as it states not owners. However, this problem occurred because of the fluid leaking out of the water reservoir/or possibly a failed water pump that kia knows will fail. If kia was aware of this problem and did not issue a recall, knowing that this could cause serious engine problems or death, why are they not responsible for this motor? the repairs are going to cost more than 5000 dollarsthis should not be tolerated. If you spend any money on a vehicle, change the oil every 3 to 5 thousand miles follow all safety recalls, you should expect more than 75,000 miles out of it. Kia should be held accountable!i have contacted a lawyer in this matter i believe that kia knows its vehicles are faulty and are waiting for the cost of lawsuits against them to increase to be more than the cost of a recall for this problem, before they do anything to rectify the issues.

I bought my 2004 sorento new.in may 2008 and at 64,000 miles this year the water pump started leaking.i took it into the local kia dealership and they said it was under a recall and replaced it.they also recommended a timing belt change at that time and i did that too.after i left the dealership and drove into my garage, water was pouring out from underneath the passengers side tire, where the reserve tank was.i turned around took it right back and showed them. They said it wasn't anything theydid to bust it, it must of been that way already.i informed them that i know it wasn't that way because i had been pouring tons of water in it until i could get my car in for that appointment since the water pump was leaking and the leaking before was coming from the center of the car, not by the tire.i also informed them, that i knew they busted because they had to put pressure on the water pump line to test it and therefore it was there fought.they still said even though they didn't do it they would go ahead and replace it for free.why do they not want to own up to it to begin with?if i had not made a scene in front of their other customers they where going to make me pay for it.i have also had the wiper park area burn out.smoke started coming from my windshield on he inside and now the heated wiper park area is not working.it will need a whole new windshield.

I was told by the florida state attorney general's office this is the site to enter information for a possible product recall. This is not a safety issue. The radiator reservoir on kia sorrento's start leaking for no apparent reason. If the consumer does not notice it then the engine will overheat and stop working. Although the engines are warranted for 10 yrs or 100,000 miles i see potential for many consumers losing their engines and the response from kia be that the customer let the engine overheat. It is not easy to realize that the car is overheating. Rather than a flashing light the temperature indicator is a gauge. You have to actually notice that the needle has moved. It seems a shame that so many people may lose their engines because of what amount to a plastic part that just starts leaking. I believe the replacement radiator reservoir is a redesigned part and i strongly believe that the original part is defective should be recalled. I own a kia, this did not happen to me. I was luck enough to notice that the radiator reservoir was leaking. My sorrento is a 2004 but i believe other sorrentos around that year use the same defective part.

My 2004 kia sorento was in the dealership for diagnostics due to engine misfire.during which phil smith kia technicians gave my cooling system green check that all was ok.approximately ten miles afterwards the engine suffered failure, headgasket blown.vehicle was towed to the dealership.was advised by service manager when they started the vehicle the engine seized.dealership is refusing to cover under warranty, claiming that the car overheated causing the failure.the even occurred within 5 minutes of the car starting and it never overheated.i have contacted kia consumer and received no assistance.despite having documentation to support the cooling system was fine, they will not accept the claim.i am forced to pay for charges relating to the engine tear down, approximately $400 before they will release my vehicle back to me.i will then have to take it elsewhere to be repaired.

No problems before hand to indicate there was a problem until complete power loss with engine failure, within a 50 second span of driving on interstate. This was the only failure , as stated, with this car.nothing could be done. The coolant reservoir tank was faulty on this model . Informed of this from the dealershipand local corporate rep., after the fact. I was never informed of this faulty part at any time. Even when car serviced. This was a 3 year known faulty part that manufacturer knew about. Car was new when bought. Had a engine warranty of 10/100,000. I only had 5 years and 77,000 on car. Car corporation refuses to honor or deal with replacing engine. Was told the first week twice it would be covered. Local corp. Rep. Then said no to warranty coverage. I have since pay for a new engine out of my own pocket.

Just normal driving the reserve radiator tank split at the seem. The car has 60,000 miles on it. It leaked all over in my garage and my two puppies almost licked up the coolant from the floor.

I bought a kia back in 2006. The kia was a 2004 sorento. After having this vehicle for one year the coolant started leaking. The dealership stated that the coolant case was cracked. They fixed it and when i picked the car up i drove off and 10 minutes later realized my car was overheating. I stopped and popped the hood and realized they didn't reconnect my fan belts. Then in 2007 i was hearing some noise in the engine and the next day the power steering locked up and the car would barely move. Come to find out my crank shaft bolt had broken. The car was under warranty but they would not pay for it to be replaced stating that i didn't change the oil. I argued with them and nothing. Remind you the quote on fixing this problem the right way cost close to 9,000.00. I paid them 900.00 to replace bolt and shove it back in there and hope that it would last. On friday nov of 2010 my husband was driving the car and the crank shaft bolt fell out almost causing an accident. I still owe one year on this vehicle and it doesn't work. I have read several complaints on the internet about the exact same problems that have occurred in 2004 kia sorento. I feel this is a defect in their product and that they should half to pay for all these peoples problems with this vehicle. There was also a recall on 03 and 06 models on crank shaft bolts. Tell me there isn't a consistent problem.

While driving in the fast lane on the interstate, my 2004 kia sorento overheated and the engine seized, we were able to coast off the freeway at an exit and pull over safely. Upon inspection, we noticed the coolant reservoir was cracked on the bottom, allowing all the coolant to leak out. After a little research, i found the tsb about this old model coolant reservoir cracking and a new model was out. This damaged tank caused my engine to overheat, seize on the freeway and now has blown the head gasket and warped the aluminum heads. Why wasn't i told that these tanks were a problem, i had my oil changed at the dealership 3 weeks prior and 3 months before that, nobody said anything.

The engine coolant reservoir failed can't be repaired. It must be replaced. There are no such parts anywhere in the united states. Parts are on a boat from korea. Due to the suspected number of such failures, and to the basic lack of adequate design of the part, we suspect that there has been a major draw-down on the part, resulting in a stock outage. Operating the vehicle w/o this major component would result in engine failure. Such engine failure, under certain conditions, could result in an accident, and potential injury.

My response is to the person who filed the below complaint:mine was 2004same exact thing happened to me6500. For new engine!absolutely nothing was covered by kia excuse after excuse i also had all records on the car.i also had in writing ten days before proof that their was not a crack in reservoir because i had service done---kia's response was that i must have known i had issues with the car if i took it in for service...mind you this was my normal 3 month-3000 mile normal routine check up...........kia is horrible...... I am on board with you for class action suit to get my money back that they should have paid for!!! my 2003 kia sorento stopped with no warning or indication of a problem at 67,735 miles due to what was later determined to be engine overheating. At first the kia dealer said it was due to the coolant reservoir cracking and going empty. Since this is not a part of the engines actual means of cooling, they changed their story to the thermostat failed. Kia said that this portion of the warranty passed at 65,000 miles. Their warranty says 100,000 miles. Cost over $3,600.00 to repair, similar situation at 80,000 miles for $1,400.00. Still no warranty coverage. I have furnished complete maintenance records showing maintenance at every interval required by kia. Looking for some one to join in a class action suit.

Engine seized due to a factory recall. Received the notice after the fact and kia is not willing to accept and take responsibility in correctly fixing my engine and paying for my $1000 rental car.

Cooling system failure cause blown engine without any warning.

I had back firing and the possibility of stalling. Of course i did report this to lawleys, but their response was, well we can't find the problem, so when the check engine light comes on, then bring it back. I had traveled to el paso, tx. And when i was ready to come home, i started this vehicle and it had a very loud clicking noise. I had no oil in the car and there was no warning.as far as the verification of oil changes, i had some, but i didn't have a recent one because it was not time to change the oil until i got back home, but they did not care. Well, the second time that i had a problem i was in willcox, az. It's about 50 miles outside of sierra vista. When i got out there the check engine light came on, and if you read your manual, then you know not to drive the kia with the check engine light on. They said to drive it home. This was on a saturday. I had to wait until monday to bring it into the shop. Come to find out, there was a very big problem with the engine. The lack of power, the backfiring of the engine, it all came from a cylinder misfire. There were dents in the piston top, cylinder wall was damaged, and valve damage, to include metal shavings in the cylinder. It is stated in my report that there were concerns about this problem being in the intake manifold with other vehicles. This caused the damaged areas that i recently mentioned. This of course caused problems with the performance of the engine. If you are having the same problems with your kia and your dealership tells you they can?t find the problem, then mention the concerns about the intake manifold. Every dealership knows that these vehicles are badly made and they will find any reason to not have to pay to fix your vehicle. Make sure you have your receipts or they will not be willing to help you at all. After my dealership diagnosed it, they said that because i was missing an oil change, i would have to pay $350 (for the fluids needed) and that they would replace the engine.

On sat. Sept. 12, 2009, i was on the express way and noticed that my 2004 kia sorento was slowing down.i immediately looked at my dashboard to see if any lights were on, none on.i then noticed that my heat gauge was at h.i immediately pulled of at the next exit and there was a gas station at the corner.steam started to come from under the hood and fluid from under the car.i had it towed home because it would not start.i then had it towed to a kia dealership service dept and they looked at the vehicle.the service manager called to inform me that my engine was gone.i said gone.how did that happen.he said because i drove it too long after it started to shut off.ii explained the car was slowing down and i immediately pulled off the express way to a gas station (which is right off the ramp).i did not drive it far.he told me i had 2 choice,a new engine for $10, 000+ or a used engine $6300+.it was no longer under warranty as of 10/2008.i am devastated.i thought the company offered a 100,000 mile warranty.i had about 87,000 miles on the vehicle.i called kia headquarters and they are looking into this matter.i am awaiting a reply from them.

I was driving along the interstate at aprox. 70 mph. I heard a ticking noise and looked at the dash. No warning lights. I rolled the window up, could not hear the noise any longer and continued down the road. I rolled the window back down, the ticking got louder, all lights on the dash light up, engine stalls, and as i'm moving to the emergency lane, the temp. Gauge moves to the red. The vehicle has 155,000 miles on it so the warranty is up. However, this problem occurred because of the fluid leaking out of the water reservoir. If kia was aware of this problem and did not issue a recall, knowing that this could cause serious engine problems, why are they not responsible for this motor? the repairs are going to cost more than 5000 dollars and that is if i can find a replacement motor from a secondary dealer. I have considered trying to find a used motor but i am now hearing that this particular motor has had a problem with the #6 cylinder wall failing, and i do not want to sink that kind of money into this vehicle without the assurance that i will not have to go through this again in 6 months. Has anyone else heard of this? are there any class action suits against kia? this should not be tolerated. If you spend 28,000 dollars on a vehicle, change the oil every 3 to 5 thousand miles, you should expect more than 155,000 miles out of it. Kia should be held accountable!

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized and excessive forced was required. The failure occurred on several occasions. The dealer replaced the bolts. While driving at various speeds, the bolts fractured from the harmonic balancer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who indicated that the crank shaft and engine might need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

2004 kia sorento - loss of power, brake and battery lights illuminated, vehicle stalled.crank bolt failure.happened 3 times; replaced/fixed 3 times.a letter to kia being sent at the time this wasbeing written.

I was driving to a family members house at night. When we got there he tells me i have no lights in the back. The next day i went to the auto store and bought new lights to put in. That did not working so i went back. He hooked it up to the computer and found out it was a brake light switch. I got that replaced. I start looking up on line for another issue i am having and found out that alot of other kias have had the same issue.

I bought my sarento in 2004, new.i replaced the coolant reservor at 61000 miles due to overheating, replaced the low beam headlight bulbs on 4 ocasions, tail lights on 2 ocasions.my vehicle, 5 speed manual transmission, started to have a roaring noise approx.6 months ago and the u-joints were replaced.it still roars. It quit running on 2-16-12 while i was driving, but restarted.it finally quit again and would not restart on 2-17-12.check engine light indicate a fuel pressure sensor problem, but mechanic says this should not cause the problem i presently have.it has been in the shop since 2-18-12.the mechanic said it started for him.i insisted he let it run for a while and see what happens.sure enough, it quit.kia mechanic told me it may be a crank or cam sensor issue.other problems--front dome light off and on at will, rear one works, clock on and off at will, vehicle hums loudly when drivingfor a while.it has been a reliable vehicle for the most part, but when there is an issue, it is hard to detect.

The interior lights do not stay on the wheel i have to play with it to get them to come on and they go off all the time which is very dangerous driving at night. And my low beams do not work at all i have to drive with high beams on.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that while going through inspection, the air bag warning light illuminated continuously. In addition, the rear brake light failed to operate. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact stated that the brake lights were repaired; however, the air bag was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

2004 kia sorento. The rear tail lights and front fog lights burn out frequently. This leaves me unknowingly driving at night without proper lighting. I usually find out when other drivers tell me my lights are out.there is either an electrical or fuzebox problem with the kia sorento from 2003-06.so far, kia has refused to acknowledge the problem.i found many similar complaints online such as http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f14d197/.

Headlights, taillights blow often and fake chrome plating on door inside handle peeling away and cutting fingers.

2004 kia sorento - loss of power, brake and battery lights illuminated, vehicle stalled.crank bolt failure.happened 3 times; replaced/fixed 3 times.a letter to kia being sent at the time this wasbeing written.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.the failure mileage was 20000 and the current mileage was 41380.the tail lights had been changed five times and kept burning out.the contact stated the tail lights were a safety issue because someone could run into the back ofthe vehicle.

While exiting my driveway at home (which is on a an incline and exits onto a state highway) i lost all braking capability. When i took the car into my local garage to have the problem diagnosed i was told the brake lines were completely corroded through which caused the loss of braking ability. While attempting the repairs the mechanic smelled gasoline fumes and found that the fuel lines where they exit the tank has also corroded through. I started to notice under body corrosion several years ago when the parking brake body attachment points on the rear differential corroded and became dislodged. All of this corrosion seems to be occurring much sooner than i would expect and sooner than i have ever experienced with other vehicles i have owned manufactured by other companies.

Repeated problems with check engine light, keep giving evap code, replacedevap canister solenoid with kit, headlights, taillights, clock loses time, .

I am writing this complaint against kia motors who willingly knows of issues with its fuel systems in all 2004 kia sorentos. Even looking online you see thousands of kia owners who have had the sensor go out on this model car after the cars 100000 warranty, and then kia claims it is past the warranty they have and there is nothing they can do.this causes the gas to always read incorrectly even with a full tank the car reads "e" and continuously every day have to place more gas in car for fear that the "e" may come on and like several days ago i was left on the side of the road from this. When you reach out to kia they offer no help stating there are no documented cases and when you tell them to look online, they claim those could just be angry customers placing false information.then they want to hang behind the "as is" clause stating that i should have had a mechanic check the car out, which unless they are a kia dealer and are aware of this issue which did not show up to several days later after the car was purchased. This isknown defect in manufacturing as evidenced online and feel that something should be done to make kia fix these problems without customers having to fork over more and more money over something kia itself is responsible for and will not rectify.

When refueling the tank will suddenly "spray"gasoline forcefully from the neck of the gas tank for several seconds.took it in on the voluntary recall and had the air filter replaced.car worked fine for about 2 weeks but is now experiencing the same problem again.pumped less than $25.00 in the tank two nights ago and was sprayed with gasoline!

The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, the fuel would spew out of the tank. The contact also stated that the vehicle had been repaired under a manufacturer recall for the same failure in 2012. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000. The vin was not available.

While trying to refule the gasoline will suddenly "spray" fromthe tank.vehicle stationary.

Mycompliant while refueling the vehicle it spills back out fuel. Spitting me, the side of the vehicle and sidewalk.constant engine light on.

While driving on the highway at 65 mph the crankshaft bolt broke, the timing belt and drive belt came loose.

Rusted brackets posing a dangerous safety risk, 2004 kia sorento with 162,000 miles. The entire bracket holding the differential rusted through. The frame rear cross member also rusted through causing the control arms is detached from the rear end also creating a safety hazard. There is a design flaw that allows water to stay inside the hollow cross member that caused the corrosion. Drain or weep holes in the cross member and an anti-corrosion coating would have prevented this. When the bracket(s) breaks the rear axle is no longer held in place there are reports on nhtsa where these brackets have rotted away and failed causing loss of control of the vehicle. This is a known design flaw that has been appearing on the older cars where the entire frame and rear end would have to be replaced. There will eventually be more of these failures and there is a potential for fatal accidents from loss of vehicle control. I am aware that in europe kia has been repairing sorentos.

Vehicle is only 7 years old.metal bracket welded to the rear axle that holds the upper control arms has completely failed!the normal torque from the rear axle has broken both brackets holding the upper control arm to the cars frame.all that is holding the rear axle in place is the lower control arms and the sway bars.there are no weep holes to allow water to drain out of the bracket weldment, causing water to fill the cup-like condition created.this condition has (an will) cause premature failure of all kia sorento rear axle/upper control arm connections.while driving the rear axle could become detached from the vehicle due to excessive stress placed on the remaining parts.a typical traffic maneuver could cause a catastrophic failure, and render the vehicle uncontrolable, with the likelyness of massive pain, injury and death as a result!!!this is an extremely dangerous condition!!!these cars need to be recalled now before someone is killed!!! psif you see a kia sorento on the freeway...stay away from it for your own safety!

While driving all warning lights came on and all belts broke steering wouldn't work.

While i was driving out of my complex my the lights on the dash came on and it seemed as if i lost my brakes (which i cost to the side road as well as no steering. I had the vehicle towed and i was told that the pulley mounting bolt had broken off inside the crankshaft.

Entering i-35 north from access road in san antonio texas. Time 08:15am (rush hour)loud bang from rear of vehiclespeed immediately dropped to 20mph, initially thought i had blown a tire.pulled off access road to side street.was having trouble stopping vehicle no brake pressure foot went all the way to floorboard.checked rear tires, no visible damage to either tire (tires were new)when vehicle was purchased.again attempted to drive vehicle, rear tires were having trouble rotating?later discovered wheel bearings had failed.

We have had 4 instances with the same issue in the fixing the pulley crank shaft.june 30, 08, (recall) october 6, 09, aug 10, 10 and once again sept 18,12. This is the same issue that causes you to loose steering while driving with apparently no warning. I find this extremely troubling as we have a new driver learning with this car.we are lucky to report that there have been no accidents or deaths but i think it is a very dangerous situation that will soon happen.the dealer wagner kia of shrewsbury, mafeels that it is not an issue and is just from wear and tear. 4 times for the same problem? obviously kia has not fixed the problem correctly. It angers me that kia is not taking this seriously. We drive our children as well as other children in this car and could of had serious to fatal injuries.from this bolt shearing off it has also caused other major damage to the car that we have already had fixed.

Driving on interstate hwy, 70 mph, the harmonic balance bolt and roll pin sheared off leaving broken off stubs in crankshaft. Causing loss of power steering, power brakes, i haddealer replace all fan belts because of squealing for the trip, 300 miles before the failure.

Rusted brackets recalled in europe, refused by kia to replace even tho they were rusted under warranty, pose a dangerous safety risk to unsuspecting owners.the entire bracket holding the differential rusted through creating a safety hazard. Presented with a small squeak in rear. I asked kia to send people letters warning and they would not address the request.how kia is getting away with severe rust, causing safety hazards in all vehicles, is beyond me. I know they are less expensive, is it worth it?can someone please address the issue and at least let the public know it is happening before someone gets severely injured or god forbid dies.there are thousands still on the road. I paid for their diagnostic worthlessness to make sure it was documented.

Corrosion of rear differential, both left and right arm completely broke off axle assy, unsafe to drive.repair shop i've used for the last 4 years gave estimate of $1,300.00 with possible additional cost of up to $500.00.they suggested i call kia regarding my 10 yr. 100,000 mile warranty.called kia corporate headquarters for 10 yr. 100,000 mile warranty.was told i needed to tow it from my repair shop to the nearest kia dealer which was 48 miles away. Service manager after looking at defect told me warranty denied would cost $2,700.00 (approximate) and could count on an additional $500.00 to $1,000.00 when taken apart.placed another call to kia corp. Headquarters for warranty and was told there is no defect.damage as a result of salt out of their control, and the service manager had the final say.

On monday, august 10th, 2015 i was driving my 2004 kia sorento lx and heard a loud bang and then the vehicle began to fishtail. I was traveling at a low speed of around 35 mph. I immediately slowed down and managed to drive the vehicle to a nearby garage. At the garage the vehicle was placed on the lift and it was identified that the drivers side frame rail had completely broken in half and was severely corroded. The passenger side was also severely corroded but not broken all the way through. The cross-member above the rear axle is almost completely gone. I now have an 11 year old vehicle which should have a retail value of around $5k which is now completely worthless. I did some internet research and found i am not the only one experiencing this severe corrosion problem with this year and model kia. I am surprised there have been no safety recalls for this problem. Had my incident happened at highway speeds the story may be a lot different.

Two brackets (one left, one right) that hold the rear upper control arms to the rear axle housing have completely snapped off.this leaves a very dangerous condition which will cause the rear axle of the car to rotate and fall out of the car.if this happens at speed, serious injury and/or death is likely.there are many many posts about this same problem online and kia refuses to address the problem stating that it's not a flaw or defect.it is if it happens to almost every vehicle of this year and model.kia does not offer a replacement bracket that can be welded on and they suggest that the entire rear axle housing assembly is replaced at a cost of several thousand dollars per vehicle.kia motors refuses to acknowledge the problem or assist affected customers in resolving it.

Crankshaft bolt broke with approx 75,000 miles. Kia issued service bulletin and replaced the bolt. But the motor was destroyed when it broke and continuously overheated and was undrivable. It required a new motor. Not having $ to replace motor & kias zero accountability. Vehicle sat at a repair shop for 2 years & they filed for an abandoned title. At the time valued at approx $7500. Wasted!!!! thanks kia!

The consumer approached a driveway which had a slight incline.the consumer got out of the vehicle with the engine still running and the driver's door opened.at least two minutes later, a click was heard and the vehicle rolled backwards until it hit a tree.a kia representative came three days later, inspected the vehicle, and claimed no responsibility.*sc

Transmission overheated causing overflow of atf onto exhaust manifold igniting a fire.

Since buying my sorento in february 2004, i have noticed that the car sometimes has to "think" before going into gear and there is no predictability as to when this will happen.in example i was in the center lane merging into traffic when the car just would not get going it hesitates and then drops into gear.i have taken the car in and the service manager said that he has had several complaints like mine but there is nothing he could do to help.he said that it seems to be the combination of the engine and transmission and that since it seems to be just a characteristic of the car, there would be nothing that kia would do.i am concerned that this vehicle can cause an accident under normal driving conditions.since it is a 6 cylinder, i would believe that it should get up and go when you need it.i always need to be aware that i cannot rely on the car to get in gear quickly.this is unsatisfactory, and i have never had a vehicle react in such a way.

Well, there is an annoying, over time driven hissing sibilant noisecoming from underthekia sorento 2004 vehiclei went to kia, and complaint about it . They claimedthatthey heard the noise, but it wasnot enough loud for them to fixthe problem.in my life i never had a car that made such noise .couldsomething be done about it?

I was told they didn't give loaner cars..very poor customer service. I believed in the company/product and purchased brand new off the lot with a full warranty and because of bad kia products, i should have been able to get a loaner car.i still have to pay full monthly car note. Customer service is very important to me and i don't feel that i got it.i had to call back to the service to get a status of where they were repairing my vehicle..i was told it would be 09-01-04 and i did not get a response, so i called on 09-02-04 and was told the part came in but all parts were not included so i had to wait another day 09-03-04.i called at 4:30pm cst to get a status, i was told they were working on it & it would be later that afternoon.this was afternoon, they close at 6:00pm cst..needless to say, i got my car at 5:45pm.. I guess it really did not matter to them since they were not getting any money out of me.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorrento. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited an abnormally loud noise when driving various speeds. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and the failure was located at the muffler tail pipe hanger and the rear differential. The mechanic advised that both components were corroded.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and denied assistance due to the mileage on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 128,000.

Car started making a squeaking rubber noise in afternoon then by next early morning car was making a loud squealing noise then a loud thunk and by the time we got it to the kia dealership it was slightly shaking. Was told the whole drive shaft needed to be replaced and it would take 6 days to get the part in! no loaner car available so i'm left with no transportation to and from work!! thank god this is warranty work otherwise i'd be screwed even more!

I have 3 major failures w/my new kia sorento '04 since buying it in dec '03 from peak kia in colo.the 1st failure, the anti lock brake control unit was replaced in dec '03.the brakes engaged when they shouldn't. I have complained many times about a road vibration at 68-72 mph. Dealer has seen my car 5 times for this problem. The 1st time the dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong, but said they had only driven it to 63 mph. The 2nd time i took it in,problem had been noted in a number of sorento's nationwide & they were going to need to change the drive shaft. 3rd time for this same problem & upon picking up the car found out that they didn't change the drive shaft, but greased it w/special heavy duty grease &turned it 180 degrees. I asked why hadn't changed drive shaft, & they said the manufacturer's technical service bulletin recommended this procedure 1st. The vibration has slowly returned. I called the dealer & they said they would put me on list to drive car w/regional service mgr. They called & said he was in town, so i went to drive car with local service mgr & regional service mgr.they felt there was nothing highly noticeable about vibration & said it could be the roads. They told me to call back if it got worse. In august '04, were driving & my car began to smoke. A huge trail of smoke coming out from under car. We pulled to the side of the road & called 24hr towing from the dealer. Car towed to osborn kia in colo. & found that the entire rack & pinon steering mechanism & gear box had blown up throwing steering fluid on the engine. So much smoke i thought the car was on fire! what could have happened if our steering would have gone out in a tight turn! the dealer's service mgr said in all of his year's the dealership had never replaced this part. The entire steering system replaced, the car is now vibrating once again at 68-71mph. I am going to contact the dealer but am concerned they will not do anything to fix this.

Since purchasing new 2004 sorento in february 2004, have had the vehicle to two different dealers for five attempts to resolve a vibration from unidentified source. The vibration was first experienced at 70 mph. One dealer has replaced the gear cluster in the rear differential, balance and rebalanced tires, replaced rear u-joints, and replaced front drive shaft. This did not correct problem. Second dealer replaced rear drive shaft a second time. Vibration is now worse.it can be felt at 50 mph and 70 mph. Have met with kia factory rep. Kia states they have a technical bulletin on this problem.

1. Since new, 2004 kia sorento 5-speed transmission has had a grind when shifting between lower gears. I brought problem to attention of berlin city kia dealership in burlington vt during my first routine service. They confirmed the grind and elected to replace the transmission as an attempted solution. 2. The problem continued with the new transmission, and in fact has gotten worse, particularly on cooler mornings. I have had it back for them to repair the problem, and have been advised that kia is aware of the problem on these particular transmissions, but has no solution at this time.3. I believe a recall is in order, as the transmissions are known to be defective by the manufacturer.

2004 kia sorento manual transmissiontransmission locks up randomly. I am unable to change gears. The shift stick moves to the various positions but the car remains in gear. This occurs while drivingor stopped and trying to upshift or downshift .i have had the vehicle to the kia dealer on three occasions, but they are not able to duplicate the problem and hence, can do nothing about it. Last occurrence, on 3/27/2008, had vehicle towed to the dealer, however they said that it was not locked up when they drove it. No help from kia customer service either.

Intermittent shifting defect that causes the gears to get locked up and the truck will not shift into first gear, or the shifter will get very tight and it is extremely difficult to shift gears.

The vehicle has a hesitation on acceleration. It vibrates while on the expressway. The check engine light comes on intermittently while traveling at high speeds. Most recently, the transfer case seized up and the front wheels locked up while i was turning and i almost crashed. It is now in the shop getting the transfer case replaced and i'm told there are even more problems with the transmission. Please advise me on what to do so the company can possibly buy this vehicle back from me.

I am complaining to let you know of a defect in my 2004 kia sorrento v.i.n. [xxx] and a potential highway disaster if the wheels locked up on this vehicle while i'm driving on the highway it will probably cause a major pile-up and lead to a lot of deaths if they don't fix this when i put the vehicle in four wheel drive it is like trying to drive with the emergency brake on i brought it in for service they said that is the way it's supposed to be and i'm not supposed to use the four wheel drive anyway unless it's absolutely needed this was the service manager at kia of lynnfield mass. Phone #781-596-0800 on the 25th of june 2004 i am bringing it in again on july 22nd 2004 but expect the same thing i further went on to question him about using the four wheel drive and he told me i'mnot supposed to use it to in rain or snow or for any other reason unless i'm stuck and need it to get out of whatever the problem is so if this vehicle turns up in a disaster you know what happened and where to start your investigation i'm also going to follow up with the mass. "takatarecall"i bought this car just recently and the drivers side air bag stays on all the time there have been recalls but not on my car is it safe to drive this like this or is it dangerous and the factory should send out a recall on this right !

A few weeks after purchasing my 2004 kia sorento, i noticed the drivers seat rocking back and forth when accelerating and braking.dealer replaced seat rail.that failed to resolve problem.since then the dealer has again replace the seat rail and the whole seat without resolving the problem.kia rep says that it is normal for electric seats in kias to rock like mine does.i believe the seat will eventually fail during an accident rendering it and the seat belt useless.

I went to get my oil changed on/around 9/5 and they wouldn't change it due to severe rust damage that had rusted through the oil pan, brake line, at least one crack in the frame from rust, and the tires are barely held on to the car due to rust damage. Now my brakes don't work but i still have to drive the car. I went to 2 other shops and no one will work on my car due to it falling apart from rust. I purchase my car at abc motor credit august of 2013 and re-located to florida before winter hit. I called them and they referred me their warranty company, lisa warranty group. Of course, rust damage and frame work is not covered. Abc motor credit sold me a car that should have been totaled, not re-sold to a consumer for $12,000!! i have tried 5 different dealerships to help get into a newer, safer vehicle, but no one will finance me due to the negative equity on this loan. Is there anything i can do? i should not be stuck paying $367 a month for the next 2 years after already investing over $4,000 into a useless vehicle. I have to conclude that abc motor credit sold me this car fully knowing the extent of the rust damage before putting it on their lot. I hope there is some law protecting consumers from this sort of business. Please let me know what i can do!

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the brakes malfunctioned.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle could not be repaired due to rusting of the frame, which damaged the brake lines. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 136,000.

While i was driving out of my complex my the lights on the dash came on and it seemed as if i lost my brakes (which i cost to the side road as well as no steering. I had the vehicle towed and i was told that the pulley mounting bolt had broken off inside the crankshaft.

*ln

While my daughter was driving on the highway, the brakes failed. The mechanic showed me the brake lines toward the rear suspension rusted through. Also the support for the rearend rusted through making the vehicle dangerous to drive. The brake lines from front to back were changed and i am looking to have the support brackets changed.

Rotors warped.i experience shuttering when stopping at any speed.i plan to take into the shop this week for repairs.my friend with a jeep cherokee had the exact same problem and jeep issued a recall.looking at the number of complaints i've found on this for kia sorento, i feel kia should take the same action.

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento.the vehicle vibrates when the brake is depressed at 40 mph.the front rotors were warpedand later resurfaced at 18,000 miles.the vibration duplicated approximately 6,000 miles after the resurfacing.the dealer replaced the front rotors, however the vibration recurred approximately 29,000 miles later.the dealer replaced the front rotors for the second time.presently, the vehicle is beginning to vibrate again.the vehicle has not been back to the dealer for inspection.the current and failure mileage were 33,700 miles.

Traveling at 40mph crankshaft bolt broke off inside crankshaft sprocket causing harm balancer and belt to fall off. 2nd instance.

Traveling at 40mph crankshaft bolt broke off inside crankshaft sprocket causing harmonic balancer and belt to fall off. Also had to replace a/c comp, water pump and timing belt due to damage. 1st instance.

The crankshaft pulley bolt broke and messed up the steering, i was unable to steer the car.this has happened twice now and continues to be a problem as i'm reading the kia forums.

While driving my vehicle at 65mpg on the highway with my baby in the car, the steering jerked to the left. I almost crashed into a desiel truck !! i then correct it and pulled over. I dropped my son off at my mom's home and went to the garage to have it looked at. On the way, it lost all power steering and i could not turn correctly. Someone hit the back of my car and shoved it into another vehicle in the front. So now my back and fron in looks like crap and i have no power steering.. But my son and i are still alive.. When researching this issue, i found out it was not my fault or my car.. This is a faulty manufacture safty issue that has not even been researched yet !! there have been so many customer complaints about the danger of this vehicle and this issue i can not believe it's still on the road. Https://www.carcomplaints.com/kia/sorento/2004/steering/steering.shtml and to find out the state was aware of it and just never even looked into protecting us. This is a danger and needs to be recalled asap before someone looses their life and the life of their child like i almost did !!!!

The contact owns a 2004 kia sorento. The contact stated while driving 60 mph the power steering failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer stated he used the wrong steering fluid in the vehicle, which caused the failure. The contact emailed the manufacturer and was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

Loss of power assisted steering due to loss of fluid from corroded steel lines between steering rack and steering directional control unit. This is the third incident of corroded steel lines on this vehicle. First was the brake lines then the fuel lines. Previous issues were also reported on this website.

Driving down road and heard noise and felt like it was loosing power. Pulled over to park the car. Lost power steering and went up a shopping store curb. Lucky that no one was walking or standing there.(pulley, broken bolt from crank and dial pin from crank).

Traveling a 45mph and crankshaft pulley broke off inside crankshaft sprocket. 3rd instance of same problem.

Purchased used, was driving tograndson's ball game, when car started making funny noise and acted as the the rear end was going to fall out, we pulled over in grocery store parking lot, got out and looked, could not see anything, had daughter follow us home, just in case, took it to friend who noticed the rear bracket arms are completely rusted out ,looks like it is what holds the rear end in place.i'm not sure what to do, i paid over $5000 used and i can't just park it, i think kia should be responsible for this mishap, it is not like it can just be fixed, it needs replaced, so i'm thinking it would be a major job, i've read many many other forums after finding this out about mine and researching, i"m sure this could potentially be a serious or even life threatening problem, i'm not sure i would want to sell it to someone else, if it is dangerous, i would really like to know the seriousness of this problem, is this a minor or major problem, is there more holding that rear end in place then just those rusted out arms or brackets?would you want your daughter driving this?, i don't know if the previous owner was aware of not, if so we were not notified, i would hate to think i could be driving down the road with myself and grandbabies and something horrible happen.please help, i"m really concerned about this, especially after all the trouble with the crankshaft bolt i" reading about.i'm scared to death to drive this thing, if it had never went up on a rack we would be none the wiser and would still be driving daily just as if we did not know, but now that i know, i don't know what to do.. This is a real safety issue, there is to much nonsense car dealers get away with anyway for us consumers to worry about our lives or someone else's while driving.will the rear end fall out?is it safe to drive?you tell me?would you drive it?

On the above mentioned date the vehicle was taken to ntb for a 90,000 mile check and to replace a bolt that had broken loose it was located near the rear axlewhen put up on the lift a very dangerous situation was revealed.the frame above the rear axle had completely rotted which caused the bolt to break and the resulting loss of integrity caused weakening and and bouncing causing the gas tank to be punctured.the car was deemed undrivable. I have written to kia with no responsethe carhad been reliable and was taken care of this put us in a tough financial situation having to buy another carin our area alone there are two kia,s that had rotting frames one the same year and make as ours his had 106,000 miles the rotting was not near as bad as ours but the same bolt broke off another was a different model but he had to get the front axle replaced because of rotting our family was put in a very dangerous situation we could have been killed the frame of the car is about the last thing you would expect to fail kia is saying that it is antiperforation and not covered antiperforationhas nothing to do with the frameanything you can do to helpwould be appreciated i am filing this on behalf of my daughter

Was driving vehicle when frame broke and almost crashed it found out from a body shop that the frame had corroded and broke and we owe money on this piece of junk and the kia corporation has never heard of this happening.

Whole driving down road started to loose control. Upon bringing to a service station found out rear frame of vehicle is completely rotted away leaving suspension hanging and not drivable.

This kia was housed and stored in a garage for most of its life and driven only in the summer. In the winters of michigan is was housed in a clean dry garage. This kia was a 2 owner car. I am the second owner. I had driven it one winter and this summer took it to get an alignment because it pulled to the right. Alignment center could not do the alignment because the whole right driverside of the frame was rusted out beyond their safty standards. The kia was pulling to the right because the whole frame on the right side was 80% rusted out and the left side was also but not to the extent of the right side. There are foot long gaping holes in the frame due to the rusting. It is irreparable. There is no safe spot to weld to to fix it either. After a rain i noticed the pools of water go directly under the kia instead of on the sides pooling and dripping off the frame on each right and left side.a flaw of design but a deadly if travelling and the car snaps in half. The kia looks perfect and runs perfect. The underside it's frame is totally rusted beyond repair. Kept in a garage and out of elements for virtually all of its life, this should not have happened. Defective steel ? defective body design? defective kia. Not safe not drivable.

Excessive rust to the frame.it is so bad now you can poke holes in the frame with your finger.if it is this bad now it was already rusted badly at or before 10 years old.

2004 kia sorento ex with extensive rust damage to rear cross-members #2 and #3. Discovered during tire rotation in nov 2018, but is obvious the damage has existed for a substantial amount of time.cross-member #2 is just in front and above the rear axle and has the mounting brackets for the axle struts, which keep the axle in place, it also has a mounting bracket for the fuel tank, as well as a pass through bracket for the rear brake lines, and a muffler hanger. The car is not safe to be driven due to the imminent danger of a full failure. Cross-member #2 is about 70% rusted through on the fuel tank side and perforated in several other places as well. Crossmember #3 which is behind the rear axle contains no mounts, but a torsion bar does connect where the cross-member passes through the left frame rail. Strut mount connectors on axle are also severely rusted. Backing plate for rear disc brakes on both sides is rusted so severely they crumble like an eggshell.contacted kia and they said they will not cover repair of the defect, case #12944853 opened.it only takes a quick search online to find there are many cases of this with particularly 2004 models.

My son was driving this car when he heard a loud bang and lost control of vehicle while driving in a roundabout in taunton mass and nearly crashed this vehicle due to losing the ability of stabilizing it, but was able to pull off to side of road thankfully because of the speed of travel at the time, thankfully he was not on the highway or i may be telling a different story. Upon driving vehicle home, my husband looked over vehicle to see where the problem was and noted frame near right rear tire had rusted totally through where it attaches to an arm of some sorts maybe a stabilizing arm(not sure). We purchased this vehicle march 2014-7 months ago and it passed inspection at the time, but i don't believe that it should have as they are supposed to check the frame as listed on inspection report and there is absolutely no way it rusted through that badly in 7 months time with roughly 6,000 miles put on it. This particular problem has been reported on many blog sites as well as on this site, their should be a recall as it seems to be a known problem, and consumers should not have to pay possibly their life for such a defect. I have pictures of this issue, and will also be notifying kia about this as well.

Major rust problem with frame and suspension kia sorento purchased march 30 20042 months past the warranty85392 miles having just driven on the highway 65mphvehicle was entering school parkinglot, at the entrance vehicle went over speed bump at this point there was a loud bang and the vehicle started shaking and squealing.upon inspection the passenger side rear stabilizer-tractionbar broke completely off the frame rail just forward of the wheel. This causes the rear axel to move freely forward and back. Further inspection by kia dealership shoed more components above the rear axel broken free. I filed a good will complaint with kiawho responded with a big no regarding any help. Fortunately this breakdown happened in a parking lot and no injuries happened but if this had happened on the highwayit would have been a major accident with possible injuries or death if the vehicle rolled over .this was very good low maintenance low mileage vehicle and we were hoping for a few more years of usage, now we are disappointed with kia that no notices of major rust issues were made available.now what we have is a car that worthless and doesn't live up to the warranty limits.

This is a follow up to nhtsa id #10852665.i contacted manufacturer regarding the rusted frame.suggested towing to dealer for diagnosis.towed to dealer, who called saying it was bad and to call kia back.called kia and a case was opened #k3156514.was told i would hear back by wednesday the 6th of april have not received any return calls, left 2 voicemails car is still at dealer, its been 8 days and no info..kia needs to step up and recall these vehicles before someone gets killed!this complaint starts at 2003 and so far have read up to 2005 for thi issue.europe recalled it but not here?mileage was 92000 not 82000.

Was driving wife to work , stopped at light when light turned green i pushed the gas pedal and i heard a bang so loud i thought someone hit us from behind. I drove car home and looked under it and i couldn't believe it ! the rust on the rear end brackets and the two bars connected to them were totally rusted through and hanging off. I went to the kia dealer where i originally bought the car and asked them about it they said they never heard of that problem. I told them there are hundreds of complaints on the internet about it ,they told me don't believe everything you see on the internet. Then they said that it's not a kia problem it's a road salt problem. I told them nothing else under the car was rusted that bad , and i believe it's a design problem. They said there is nothing they can do, so now i have a car with only 83,000 miles on it that is too dangerous to drive. This problem had to have started way way before 83,000 miles to have gotten this bad.

My daughter took my car a 2004 kia sorento in for a nysi and the shop dead lined the car and made me flatbed it home due to the fact that the rear end was falling out due to excessive rot on the brackets and they deemed the car unsafe to drive. The women that runs the shop told my daughter and son that this isn't the first time that she has seen this on a kia. In fact its a prevalent issue! upon coming home i did some research on the internet and found that this is a major issue that the federal government should be looking into ordering kia to do a recall,my daughter could have been killed driving this vehicle.i also saw on the internet that in the uk kia had taken care of this issue with consumers. I would like consideration in having kia repair this car free or purchace the vehicle back at blue book pricing. This is an extremely dangerous issue that could have killed my daughter or anyone else on the road where my daughter was driving the kia sorento.

I brought this vehicle for inspection and was told it will not pass because one of the control arms is detached in the rear end.i was told not to drive the vehicle at all because it is not safe.additionally there is rot under the entire vehicle.the left side frame was welded and repaired by the previous owner but the right side is now rusted badly and in need of repair.axles are leaking due to rust. Brakes are a problem but i haven't investigated further to know if its caused by rot.i have been on multiple forums for this issue and it seems many people have same issues especially the control arm problem.i can not return this vehicle because i was scammed and am now stuck with a dangerously rotted car. I am told its not worth fixing.this car looks fine and without looking underneath a person would not know a problem existed perhaps until an accident.

Brought vehicle to dealer for oil/filter change at 53,000 miles. Dealer found one of the two brackets on top of rear end was completely rusted and broken off and the other bracket was severely rusted. Dealer would not allow me to drive vehicle and is not repairable. There are no new replacement rear ends for vehicle and the brackets are not available as a replacement part. I noticed other very similar complaints on your site:nhtsa id #'s - 10452414, 10439449, 10427559, and 10403443. There may be other id's that have been retired (microfilm, etc.). As such, the vehicle is a total loss. Don't know why nhtsa hasn't issued a recall.

Took my car in for nys inspection and was alerted to an issue with my rear suspension.the rear cross member is completed rotted out and the upper trailing arm have become separated from the cross member due to rust and corrosion.this is a 2004 kia sorento ex that i purchased new and now has 103,000 miles.this corrosion is an extremely hazardous situation and the vehicle cannot be repaired. Needless to say it cannot be driven.

Mechanic at a gas station told my mil she needed a new rear axle. When i checked the axle i found the top left stabilizer bracket was badly rusted. I took the car to the local kia dealer to get a recall repair. This should never happen to a car with only 60k miles. The dealer has not completed the estimate. The car is not drive-able. There should be a recall

Vehicle is only 8 years old. I constantly have this problem. The first time i had this problem i slid while trying to hold brakes, there was also a lot of weird sounds and the rear end did not feel sturdy. I took it to my mechanic and he found metal bracket welded to the rear axle that holds the upper control arms had completely failed! the normal torque from the rear axle was broken both brackets holding the upper control arm to the cars frame. All that is holding the rear axle in place is the lower control arms and the sway bars. There are no weep holes to allow water to drain out of the bracket weldment, causing water to fill the cup-like condition created. This condition has (an will) cause premature failure of all kia sorento rear axle/upper control arm connections. While driving the rear axle could become detached from the vehicle due to excessive stress placed on the remaining parts. Regular driving could cause a catastrophic failure, and render the vehicle uncontrollable, with the likelihood of massive injury and possibly death as a result!!! he also said that it cannot be repaired. This is a huge problem for me because i still have a car note to pay. This is an extremely dangerous condition!!! these cars need to be recalled now before someone is killed!!!

Was driving vehicle when frame broke and almost crashed it found out from a body shop that the frame had corroded and broke and we owe money on this piece of junk and the kia corporation has never heard of this happening.

The rear axle is falling apart and it's rusted where i can't even weld a bracket for the rear suspension it's so rusted that i was told by a mechanic that the rear axle can actually fall off the vehicle i would have to replace the entire rear axle so i can put a bracket or it will come with a bracketit will cost me $4000 and i think a kia should be responsible because the whole entire car underneath it rustedbucket full of rust

While driving approximately 35 mph, the rear of the vehicle shook violently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who noticed that the crossmember bars were severely corroded through and were not able to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. Major safety hazard. The entire bracket holding the differential rusted through. The frame rear cross member also rusted through causing the control arms is detached from the rear end also creating a safety hazard.

Recent (6 mo. Ago) purchase of a 2004 kia sorrento. At time of purchase approx. 75,000 mi.logged.tires appear to be in very good.condition.within a month or two of purchase, it became obvious that there was a traction problem on wet or even slightly wet roads. As of today, dec. 10, 2008, i have skidded twice and "fishtailed" once, going very slowly (20 mph or less)today it was barely sprinkling and as i literally crept around a corner, the car unexpectedly began to swerve and fishtail. It was a little scary and i'm sure the people behind me freaked me out... Despite my surprise,i tried not to jerk the wheel . The car straightened up after a few tail end swishes back and forth.i have searched the internet recently and have seen consumer reference to "poor traction on wet surfaces" (understatement).i have mentioned it to a kia repair shop, but was told to make an appointment and bring it in.since i do not have thousands for a major suspension (or ?) repair, ihave been praying for dry weather.i have also heard and felt strange noises when the vehicle was accidentally switched to 4 wheel drive, but it is not apparent when in 2 wheel drive. And, the transition from one gear to another is not sooth and is a little slow. Anyway, the main issue is skidding on wet roads. I am very surprised there has not been some kind of safety alert or recall. Thanks for listening. Theresa arney

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle had an uncontrolled hydroplane incident on wet pavement which resulted in the vehiclecrossing three traffic lanes at 45-50 mph.this occurred while entering the freeway. There were no warnings indicating a problem. Updated 01/25/06.

Took car to my mechanic for small leak in radiatorand asked that he check the brakes because i heard a loud noise from the rear of the vehicle.upon checking the brakes (which were o.k.) he found the rear frame to be completely rusted through.he noted the vehicle was unsafe and dangerous to drive as there was a risk of rear drivetrain detaching from vehicle.this seems to be a problem known to kia -- as there was a recall in europe for this problem-- but not the us. I already contacted kia and the only response i received was to take it to a kia dealer for diagnosis.we would have to pay for a diagnostic test when we already know what the problem is.kia does not give any guarantee that they would reimburse us for the test or anything else.please let us know what we can do.how can we get kia to act responsibly?there are many other complaints about this same problem

Crankshaft pulley bolt_while decelerating to make a turn, i lost my power steering and power brakes. The brake and battery indicator lights came on. Thankfully, i was not involved in a potentially serious accident. I managed to make it home the last two miles using battery to supply ignition. The 2 of the 3 belts had dislodged and the crankshaft pulley was lose to the point that it nearly detached from the crankshaft end. I am greatly disturbed that, after some research, discovered that this exact failure has been regularly documented. I purchased my unit used so i am unaware if a previous repair had been made by kia. I have not received any notification of such. This is a very serious issue. I am thankful that i was in a rural area when this failure occurred. Based upon some research findings, i hope that i do not experience balking while attempting to have this issue remedied, as others have. I have reviewed some discussion regarding a service bulletin #018 (nhtsa item number : 10009688 date of bulletin : jul 01, 2004 crankshaft pulley bolt) issued by kia concerning this failure. I will be arranging for the unit to be delivered to my nearest kia dealer (45 miles away in quincy, il).

I was driving when i heard a clunking noise, and my truck shifted. So i pulled over to see the my rear lower arm fell from subframe corrsion due to heavy salt use here in wi. I had to get car towed home.

The vehicle was stationary. We are a family of four. One of us open one of the rear doors and the handle came out completely. I don't know if it can be repair or not. I cover the hole with tape to protect the inner parts of the door from the water. The same thing happens with the handle of the other rear door. But in this case it does not come out completely and i use tape to maintain it in position. If something happens and the persons in the back sits are unable to open the rear doors from the inside one of the persons in the front sits have to get out the car and open the door that still have the taped handle. I don't know if this situation is going to affectthe mechanism of the interior handles of the rear doors. I don't know if the taped handle is going to brake or when is going to brake. I read in the internet that this a problem of the sorentos of several years. Some of the persons in the internet ask why kia is not making a recall. I have a daughter of 16 years and a son of almost 15 years. My son does not have many limitations, but he has a syndrome. I am including photos of the doors.

My sorento was in park running in my driveway started smoking and caught fire and burned up in a matter of minutes. I'm aware of recalls with kia vehicles catching fire. I would like this to be addressed and investigated as i feel it was due to a malfunction. 911 was called and the fire department came to distinguish the car it is a total loss.

Vehicle caught fire while stationary. Fire started in front compartment near fuses. Total loss

It drives fine then all of a sudden foot same position on gas petal it accelerates.

Speedometer reads fast.according to kia at 60 mph it is in tolarence plus or minus 7-8 mph.

I was driving when i heard a clunking noise, and my truck shifted. So i pulled over to see the my rear lower arm fell from subframe corrsion due to heavy salt use here in wi. I had to get car towed home.

- the contact owns a 2004 kia sorento, when the contact lifts thefoot offthe gas pedal the throttle cable sticks.there was a collision while driving 25 mph, the vehicle was damaged on the passenger side, and the passenger was injured resulting in a 2 day hospital stay.this failure occurred on two occasions.the contact has referenced recall#05v329000 as the exact failure in his vehicle.the recall stated that on certain mini vans, freezing conditions can cause water on the throttle cable to freeze during normal operation. Resistance to movement of the throttle cable can occur when the driver lifts their foot off of the gas pedal.a police report was filed.the failure mileage was 19585 and the current mileage is 19591.updated 2/21/2007 -
