Airbag indicator turned on and has been on since the beginning of the year. I have not been driving the vehicle since the indicator light turned on in fear of the airbags deploying on their own while i'm driving or not deploying if an accident occurs.

Airbag light has come on.vehicle has 74,000 miles on it has never been wrecked or off road.this is safety equipment and should be covered under warranty for life.i have no access to the airbag system and it no longer functions in my vehicle.

Air bags coil spring has been replaced 4 times. The air bag warning light is always on and kia refuses to fix the problem. I don't know if the air bags will deploy in case of a accident. This is been a problem from the day i purchase the car. I don't know the maker of the air bag sistem.

Reference nhtsa item number 10015248--tsb# 0292003 kia sorento -- air bagspurchased car in 8/2003 and has had problems with air bag coming on and off over the past 5 years. Now the car has been in an accident and is three months out of warranty, the dealership is not inclined to cover the expense to replace the "adu" but rather wishes to charge me more than $500.my daughter was in a scary accident and airbags did not deploy.

I was coming home from work one day ,when the crankshaft bolt came out of my car .i barely made it home .but the front end was jarring my airbag light came on my breaks like same one and i did not have no control of my steering .then it cost me 1700 .then one day i was in town and the crankshaft bolt came out of my car again which this time i did not have no control of the steering it took every muscle that i had to keep it in the road the front and shook so bad it jarred everything i lose my airbag light came on my brake lights came on seat belt light came on it was a hazardous on the highway seriously killed me or someone else or really badly hurt them.then i took it back to the mechanic again and he said welcome it's going to cost you 1700 more which i did not have so i let the bank have it back which now it has run my credit because i didn't have the money to get it fixed and i lost my credit because of thisso yes they need to do a recall on the crankshaft bolt before it does kill someone is that what they're waiting for for someone to die before they do something about.and i keep on replacing bugs brake lights headlights and everything they keep on blowing in this in the kia and i keep on putting money in it for me to get it inspected it cost me a hundred sixty two dollars and 22 dish to replace bulbs that i just replace not even a month before that i have receipts i am so tired of putting money into this kia i didn't have no other choice but to let them take it because it c and the tires at 8 my tires up and i put new tires on which cost me 800 800 again to put in800 again to put inand when this bit when this happened i called kia in charlottesville virginia and they said they put a new crank bolt in at the kids embrace chevrolet before i boarded so this would make three times the crankshaft bolt had been replaced i want this kia..................

While driving and turningsrs light appearedon the dashboard and remained on.vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanicwas not able to determine the cause of the problem.

Air bag light came on and stayed on. Took to kia dealership where i purchased 2003 kia sorento (new) was told that the "clock spring" needed to be replaced and that it was very common that they had to be replaced. I was told that i had to pay for repair. I asked if it was a common problem that they had to replace a lot why had it not been a "safety issue" and a recall been enacted. They did not know.

The warning light for the srs supplemental restraint system (air bag) keeps going off went out of factory warranty at 80,000 miles it started around 80, 800 dealer would not cover repairs. Light is now constant and when i was searching the internet found same complaints with the srs.

The air bag light was on after being serviced nine times.

4 months after purchasing this vehicle used off dealership lot, i was having 4 new tires installed for winter.when i climbed back into the car and turned over the ignition, the air bag light has been constantly lit ever since.

On saturday, april 3, 2004, my 2003 kia sorrento was parked in the middle of my driveway while i moved the lawn. After returning my lawn mower to the garage, i got into the sorrento to move it back into the garage. After i started the vehicle and put it into drive, it accelerated rapidly, pulled me through the garage and through the back wall, which is solid brick.i went through my front yard, and the only reason i stopped was because the vehicle went over some boulders and down an incline, causing the back wheels to come off the ground. I also hit a tree in my front yard.the air bags did not deploy.

All lights come on, horn blows, but will not start at all, this kia sorento is junk, its falling apart, i got a disable mother, now can't take her to her doctor appointments, every since i had it, its been nothing but junk, we live on fixed income, can't afford to get another vehicle, and this 2003 kia sorento should not be on the road, all kia sorento vehicles are junk, clock is messed up, comes off and on, airbag light is on, now won't even start at all, something needs to be done about kia dealerships selling junk vehicles, will complain again and again, they are junk!

My airbag light came on without warning. Now i'm told my airbags won't work. The dealer states i need a new controlmodule. It is coming up as a seat position error. They said it is common. This is a required safety item on new cars, the airbags. If it is a common defect why no recall. Kia won't help.

Takata recall.my car will not pass inspection due to a problem with one of the airbags.the car hasn't been in an accident but the airbag light is on and i'm told it will not inflate.i was told to check for recalls.

When go to shift truck in drive it makes a clank sound and when driving at a speed between 65-70 the truck starts vibrating, and when in reverse it squeaks when back up,at first my wife it was the u joints so we had it replaced but it all started happing again. Next our battery die had it replaced with a new one now the air bag indicator light stays on all the best time and at times it feels like the accelerator peddle gets stuck at times.

Vehicle went in for repair of heater core at which time the dashboard was removed.2 days later the airbag light came on and stayed on.went back to the dealer who said it was getting to much of a charge but it was not covered under warranty and was not caused by them.when asked what caused it they do not know.they said it was ok to drive that nothing was wrong.

Engine light is on, airbag light is on, clock can't keep right time, now won't start at all, i wished i never bought this 2003 kia sorento, they are nothing but junk. Please anybody who reads this do not buy a kia vehicle. I hate kia vehicles, i will never own one again, i would not take a kia vehicle, even if they give me one. To many problems, since i bought it, haven't been anywhere in two weeks, because kia vehicle is junk.

My daughter was drivinga 2003kia sorrento and fell a sleep at the wheel after college exams. She drove into the rear of a tractor trailertankerat approximately 40 mph. None of the air bags deployed as a result ofthe accident. She had a concussion and a cracked sternum. State farm insurance declared the car a total loss due to a bent frame, engine mount failure and a totaled front end. After contacting kia, their response to the accident was that the angle the car hit the trailer, was such that none of the sensors was compromised , there for the air bags did not deploy.basically is was not their problem with their equipment of the car.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving on a paved street at 35 mph, the drivers side-impact and both frontal air bags deployed.there were no indicator lights illuminated prior to the incident and the vehicle did not impact anything to cause the deployment.the vehicle was driven to the side of the road without incident.no injuries were sustained and seat belts were in use.the vehicle was towed to dealer. Upon inspection, the computer diagnostic test indicated the vehicle had been in a major collision.the dealer is awaiting approval from the manufacturer before repairs are made. Updated 5/22/2006 -

1. (11/03/03 1st incident) "air bag" system light came on. Vehicle was taken to jeffery kia for repair. I was called to pickup vehicle two days later. (unaware at the time that the air bag system had been disabled) week later received call that air bag was in and to return vehicle for air bag replacement. Repair completed and vehicle returned next day.2.) (2nd incident) on vacation in starke, fa., december 24, 2003 "air bag" system light came on. Told to return to dealer (kia hotline) drove 16 hours 12/25/03 to get vehicle to jeffery kia and delivered to dealer 12/26/03. I am disturbed that vehicle was initially returned to me in unsafe condition and unsatisfactorily repaired and placed my grand children in jeopardy.

The air bag did not deploy when the vehicle wasinvolved in a front-end accident. As a result of the accident and the air bag not deploying, the consumer suffered neck and back injuries.

The vehicle was involved in an accident, and none of the air bags deployed.

In september, 2006, at approximately 55200 miles, the airbag failure light came on.diagnosis by the dealer on 5 sept 2006 (invoice 107484)revealed "ordered drivers air bag, fault b1346, 1st stage resistance to [sic] high." on 25 sept 2006, after first ordering the wrong part(invoice 107945), the dealer replaced the driver-side air bag (invoice 108174).on 31 july 2007, at approximately 59200 miles, the air bag warning light came on.the car was brought to the dealer on 1 august, and on 2 august the dealer replaced the air bag.the dealer invoice indicates "56910r00 replaced drivers side air bag. Resistance to [sic] high." (invoice 119075).on the morning of 3 august 2007, at approximately 59220 miles, the airbag warning light came on.this car has never been involved in a collision.the air bags have never been deployed.the car has less than 60,000 miles on it and is only 4-1/2 years only.despite the driver-side airbag being replaced twice, the car is indicating for the third time that the driver-side airbag has failed.

I had a 1 year old battery replaced, which was defective (non-kia dealer).afterwards, i noticed that the air bag warning light was illuminated.kia dealer said it was due to a bad sensor ($300 part, $300 labor). It was too expensive for me to pursue correcting.i told the dealer to forget the repair.

The air bag sensor located in the front passenger seat did not engaged when a passenger sat in the, seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were unable to resolve the problem.

I was driving my vehicle to work. For the past 2 to 3 days, i noticed some noise from my engine that sounded like a loose belt. No problem, i could replace it on the weekend. On the way to work, my power steering went and the engine light flickered on and off. I didn't want to be stuck on a backroad in maine with no cell service so i continued, slowly, to work. After reaching work, i had the 24 hour service tow my kia sorento to the nearest dealer. This vehicle is 18 months old and they tell me the bolt holding the crankshaft to the pulley has sheared off. They cannot remove the bolt pieces from the crankshaft and have to replace it.to top it off, the airbag light was on, for the second time, and the radio has been replace twice.*la

While driving on saturday, 7/15/06, i noticed a high pitched noise while steering.i was under the impression that the power steering fluid was low.after having an oil change and capping off my fluids, the noise continues and remains while driving.it is loud enough to hear over the radio and the air conditioner at the same time. I have placed this car in the shop for numerous repairs since its purchase in 2003 and have spent countless amounts of money on various problems, including replacing the bulbs, repairing the braks, the check engine light coming on immediately after purchase, the air bag sensor remains on and the list goes on and on.i have placed numerous complains to kia directly as well as filed a compliant with the better business bureau to no avail.it would be my assumption that kia will only be concerned about fixing these issues or recalling these vehicles only after some serious incidents have occurred.

Have had nothing but problems with the dash clock going out, headlamps-6 times now, and brake lamps 3x in 3 months!was told by service dept at kia that the car over charges itself causing problems with the electrical system.wrote kia a letter trying to get them to take care of the problem or pay me back for this car and buy it back on 3/7/06.

My 2003 kia sorento drives for 15 minutes and stalls out. I wait 5 min and it'll start and drive for a block or 2and continues to that until i get it towed home

2003 kia sorento, purchased used with 11,000 miles on it.has been a nightmare since the day i bought it!head gaskets warped at 28,000 miles, overheated without warning, no spike in temp gauge, wham smoke from everywhere and even with proof of maintenance upkeep it took kia 2 months to decide to honor the warranty.this was after the check engine light would come on every two seconds and have to be in the shop for months for them to say nothing wrong with it, even when it was towed in every time because it would just shut off.then the headlight issues are insane.every other month and that is no exaggeration i have to replace either low beams, high beams, brake lights & tail lights.

I was driving back from orlando, florida after picking up my daughter who travelled down from uf in gainesville - 1st weekend in september, 2015. We were travelling south i95 in the middle lane, when the car completely shut off all the red lights on the dash board came on.luckily i was able to steer the car over to the hard shoulder, this was extremely hard, & press hard on the brakes to stop.after 5mins or so i tried starting the car again, which to my surprised it started and we continued on our journey, this time i stayed in the right hand lane, next to the hard shoulder, after a few miles, the same thing happened exactly again.the engine shut off, and came to a halt.now we were both upset as it was after 10pm at night, we called home to let someone know to be alert, and in the mean time started the car again, this off and on again issue occurred in total four times before we managed to get home safely.due to driving very slowly along the highway!!!the next day the car started first time, drove to auto zone as it was a public holiday, after putting their machine on it.the test came back saying maybe it needed water, and a few other codes.they advise to take it to a car mechanic asap, started the car made it 1/2 way home, and the car stopped dead in the middle of a two lane road, nearly causing an accident.after pushing the car to a side road, left it for 4hrs came back & manage to get home. The next day along with my son driving the kia, and myself behind him we attempted to get to the car mechanic we never made it, the van shut down, again.push it to another side road, and had to have it towed to the mechanic.been there ever since, car mechanic is having trouble locating the problem, called the dealer they have offered no help. Noticed there have been reported problems occurring with the new 2016 models of the same issue!!

I have had my 2003 kia sorento since march 2010.it was purchased with 32,000 miles on it, and as of the end of october 2010, it had 36,000 miles.so far, i have had to replace the coolant reservoir, because it was cracked.i was driving, and it overheated out of nowhere.it was in the shop for four days, because they could not find the problem even after doing several pressurized systems tests.at the end of october 2010, i had to replace the oil pump, because it had a crack in it.no one anywhere i called could believe i had to replace an oil pump.all the mechanics stated that's one of the few things they never have to replace on any vehicle, and certainly not at 36,000 miles.anyway, due to oil leaking onto the timing belt, that had to be replaced also.the timing belt was in fine condition otherwise.consequently, i now have engine problems.i'm sure the engine will have to be replaced from overheating and then having no oil.at high rpms, you can hear a slight tick, which i'm pretty sure is a lifter issue.headlights burn out quickly.i was driving one day, and both burnt out at the same time.i had to drive on high beams in the city.constant electrical problems with the dash.dash lights rarely work, and then all of a sudden all the lights will start flashing here and there - dash lights flash on/off, ceiling light flashes on/off, all back and forth while i'm driving in the dark.very distracting, especially in traffic.the truck itself (seats, comfort, etc.) is awesome, but it was definitely manufactured poorly.worst purchase ever.glad i bought the 5 star warranty or i'd be paying for a truck i can't drive.

When i try to start the vehicle it will not do anything until i open the driver door then it will start.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.the contact stated that after he gets an oil change, the vehicle's exterior and interior lights blow out.as of may 17, 2007, the dome light is currently out and has been since november 25, 2005.kia motors stated that even though her vehicle was under warranty, she still had to pay for the repair costs.kia also stated that in order to keep her warranty, the contact would need to pay $1,000 plus the repair costs.the dealer and the manufacturer have not provided a satisfactory explanation as to what is causing the failure.the failure has occurred approximately eight times.she stated that the battery had to be replaced even though it was also still under warranty.the engine size was unknown.the current mileage is 62,000 and failure mileage was 34,600. The dealer stated gas pedal sticks when accelerating . The consumer stated she hd to purchase 2 batteries.updated 06/07/07

I am single old lady, late jan.2014 , driving back from orlando,fl. To my home<2 hrs away> on i-95 car slows down, alllights go on dashboard.get home at 40 miles an hour.next day go to tire plus, can not fix car, engine trouble..go to dealer bev smith kia, ft.pierce, fl, i am a regular there, with car problemsell me can needs new lower engine, $7000i almost faint,, car not safe, i left anyway, they would not exactly tell me what wrong with car...coworker at walmart, tells me of mechanic, can fix it...take it there, he tells me what really is wrong with car..screw that hold harmony part, had broken off, half of it was still stuck into lowere engine< by the way, this was a recall back 3 years ago, in which i had complyed with kia and they had replaced new harmony screw>...this honest mechanic, told me leave kia over the weekend, willput put screw softener on screw still in engine, see if it comes out...it did, they put new screw, give me all new belts, i paid $1,800 of my own money,..i go ahead and drive to miami, fll< 2 hrs away> day latter i drive to orlando ,fl.< 3 hrs away>...in i 95....next day,try to get out of my driveway, same thing happened...good mechanic comes over to my house, said same screw came off...he fixes it again, $1,500, ...he tells me, get new car, do not keep this kia sorento 2003, car has flaw, can not be fixed....if keep it, just for around town drive, under 50 miles an hour, do not take turnpike or interstate highways...i contacted kia motors, bev smith kia, told them about recall screw replacement , tell me out of warranty, neither will really answerback...no money, no new car....kia motors is a crook,...tell me car out of warranty, that what do i want with old car...can not find any other prior complaints i made with car, since first year i bought it...

Electrical failure, cooling system failure, rough running-engine misfire purchased car 2-22-2003 brand new this car has spent a lot of time on the dealers lift. Also has seen its share of tow trucks. In the past 1 1/2 years i have replaced 18 left side headlights,23 right side head light ,16 fog lights,8 license plate lights and 6 tail lights the truck has been to 3 dealers and they all say its either normal or it's only because i did not buy the bulbs from kia well some i did and they do not last either.the last time it was in they had the truck for 9 1/2 minutes and told us there is nothing wrong and for $149.00 they will put in a new bulb. No warranty on how long it will last.....the truck also misfires and the dealer also cannot fix it they say the computer says its good so it must be good. Well you can feel the misfire even the dealers mechanic stated it is misfiring but he cannot fix it maybe after the warranty is over we will be able to find the problem.....another problem is the cooling system in the past 3 years it has had the recovery tank replaced 2 times the radiator replaced the connecting y behind the motor replaced ...i have spent over $200.00 on rent a cars with no help from kia each time my car is towed inthis car is still under warranty so why cant they fix it o yeah the last thing is the fog lights are melting or shall i say its the inside chrome coating is burning and i was told its not warranty and there about $85.00 each why wont kia meet with me ?????????????? can anyone please help me.

Driving at night when all of a sudden interior lights started blinking off & on like strobe lights at a disco.i tried turning them off, nothing.it seemed related to the dimmer switch because if i kept pressure on it to the lowest degree, the flashing stopped.for awhile i wedged a pin in the switch & that worked.eventually, though that stopped working & the light show would begin.it happened day & night, just more noticeable at night.i finally removed the fuse for the cabin lights & as a result, have no dash lights either while driving in the dark.i've not gone to kia as i am sure it will cost way more than i can afford.i'm reduced to using a flashlight when on long road trips to check gas gauge & speedometer.

The car been a problem since first year , i called district manager for kia back in 2004,told him car was skipping beat, and shaking...he told me is was my imagination...the 2nd big problem<which i had to solve through computer investigation> car would just start losing power in i-95 or fl.turnpike and come to stand still, no matter how much i pressed the gas pedal, no go, almost got in several accidents in i-95,floridalate at nite...spend $800 at kia of kendall in florida, in miami, told me was fuel problem...way back home that same day, car did same thing slowed down in rushing traffic in i-95 floirda, almost got deadly accident from car behind me, took it to kia of ft.pierce , kept car 1 week, mechanic could not figure out problem, ...i found on line, problem was at the fueling entrance, something dissolved and particles went to fueling injectors, clogging it and causing problems, told mechanics ,replaced this part ,car got fixed....last incident, major one, back 3 years ago took car to kia dealer, due to letter from kia corporation, major recall on screw that hold harmoney blancer to lower engine case...they replaced it...1/9/2004.driving back from orlando,fl,at nite, car just slows down, shakes, battery light and brake lite comeone...miracle , 1 hour i drove car slowly back home...friday i take to shop, find out same recall ,replaced screw, rusted off ,sheared off, half of it still in engine, harmoney fell off,..miracle i did not ger major fire in car, late at nite,on i95..took it fri.to ft.pierce kia, mechanic said can not be repaired, need spend$79000on new engine...nothing was mentioned same screw ,recall, they replaced back 3 years ago...car has history of my complaints to corporate kia..nothing ever done.

I bought a 2003 kia sorento about 6 years ago and i've had a lot of problems.the worst and most recent problem is the gas spews out of the tank every time i try to fill it.it runs down the side of the car and on my wheel.sometimes it gets on me.this has been going on for several months now.if you pump very slow and stop every .80 cents it lessens the amount of times it spews out, but this is so very timely.the gas gauge periodically goes out.the horn has never worked.the power steering periodically goes out.when using cruise control it will periodically go off on it's own.the paint looks horrible and has peeled off on the side mirrors.the leather seats have not held up well.the dome light will not work when you open the door, but if you press the dome light button it will come on.periodically the dash lights have flickered and i'm wondering if they are about to go out.i've already had to replace the ac compressor and the drive shaft, both of which have really set me back financially.i really want to get the gas tank issue fixed as it is the worst issue at hand and i fear it could be dangerous.

The driver door cannot be opened from inside or outside.i understand this is a common problem with kia sorentos.

As my family and i drove down 146 towards baytown, tx from dayton, tx i heard a loud "thud". Immediately followed by a loss of a/c, power, and steering. I pulled onto the shoulder immediately and popped the hood. I saw the harmonic balance lying on the splash guard and a belt lying beside it, as well as another belt loss but still hanging on the other pulleys. I got a friend to tow me back to my studio. I began searching online for why the bolt that holds the balance could just break. I found numerous reports of this problem, as well as law suits filled in other states for this very issue.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorrento.while driving 45 mph, the vehicle began to overheat.the contact inspected the vehicle and notice the coolant was low.approximately a week later he inspected the vehicle again noticed that there was a crack in the reservoir tank.he replaced the reservoir tank.as of april 15, 2008, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.in addition, the driver side headlights, tail lights and brake lights failed intermittently.as of april 15, 2008, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle for this failure.the contact felt that the electrical system caused the failure.the failure mileage was 72,000 and current mileage was 76,000.

I purchased my 03 kia sorento in 2004 and have had many issues since then. I have had to replace lights from the front to the back numerous times. I've been driving down our remote country road at night and had my headlights go out. My coolant tank cracked and left me stranded on another country road in the snow last year. I later found out it was recalled for that particular defect; after i had it replaced. The lighting issue is my biggest concern right now because of where i live (remote country roads, deer at night, etc) i have to have properly functioning headlights at all times. Now, i am having problems concerning the bearings on it. It makes a horrible screeching noise that is now; almost continuous. It doesn't matter the temperature outside, driving conditions, etc. It has become harder to steer and the power steering fluid is fine. I don't feel safe in this vehicle anymore, and i cannot afford to just go out and buy something new. I just ask that if fault lies with kia; then they should fix it at their expense....not mine! i have invested way too much time, money and patience thus far and feel it's kia's responsibility to make sure they create a vehicle that functions properly. And when they don't...fix it!!! as for the questions below; was there a fire?...not yet!!! was there property damage?....there probably will be when my bearings go out and the wheels fall off! where there any deaths or injuries?....dear lord, i pray every time i get in my truck that nothing like that ever happens to me or my son....but; with an unreliable vehicle that has constant electrical and mechanical problem; then who knows....

Vehicle is a 2003 kia sorento with 70,000 miles, purchased new. Vehicle appears to have serious electrical issues. I have, to date, replaced light bulbs approximately 38 times. This includes head light bulbs (high and low), fog light bulbs, tail light bulbs and brake light bulbs. Also the clock only works intermittently and the power sun roof has ceased working. Dealer offers no solution. This has been ongoing since the first month of ownership.

2003 kia sorento, headlights since new have continued to burn out (theirs/ours any manufacture) it does not make a difference if they install or walmart (except for price$$$) parts and labor now exceeds $500.00 and now my wife has both to burn out at approximately the same time. Dealers (3) have stated it was the alarm which was installed when we purchased the vehicle new. The frustration has now reached the point we must get rid of it .

I was dropping off someone at work when the car made a thump and all the dash warning lights came on. I drove it home about two miles away, and took it to a automobileservice center the next day. They told me that the crankshaft pulley was ready to fall off. The next day i had it towed from the service center to the dealer. The dealer said the same thing as the service center, and that it was under warranty.also, it a needed a 60000 mile service for which i paid extra. When i went to pick the car5 days later the car was making a belt noise, it was slow in starting, the dashlight wouldn't come on, and the airbag light was on. When i took it back to the dealer, they tightened the belts and checked the other problems at a cost of $150, and that these other problemswerenot under warranty, and would cost $1400 to fix them.i have never had a problem with this car until the crankshaft pulley failed, and could not see why if a warranty failure caused something else to fail, whywasn'tit fixed under warranty? also, the person who worked onthe ca rcomplainedabout theoil pan with the sealer that was used to seal the engine.

Dt*: the contact stated the horn works intermittently.the vehicle has been to the dealer five times for the problem.the fourth time, the dealership replaced the driver side airbag, which did not remedy the problem.the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.the manufacturer has been alerted.the vehicle is a 2003 kia sarento.

-the contact took the vehicleto the dealership three times concerning thehorn not working.every time hetook sit to the dealership they stated that they fixed the problem, butthefailure recurred on and off.

While driving, the engine blew out the first time on 10-04-04. It wasreplaced andit blew again on 01-21-05. The vehicle is on its third engine. The keybecame stuck in the ignition, the vehicle shifted out of park.the consumer stated he has had transmissions and engine problems since he purchased the vehicle.the front wheel bearings were damaged.the fog light was inoperative.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.after removing the key from the ignition, the contact noticed that the engine was still running.she is in the process of having the vehicle inspected to determine the cause of the failure.the failure and current mileages were 67,000.

2003 kia sorrento - constantly replacing headlights and tail lights.recently started experiencing interior lighting problem.lights come on and will not go out during driving and while heat is on.dash lights go out and will not come on - no assistance from the dealership.

Electrical failure, cooling system failure, rough running-engine misfire purchased car 2-22-2003 brand new this car has spent a lot of time on the dealers lift. Also has seen its share of tow trucks. In the past 1 1/2 years i have replaced 18 left side headlights,23 right side headlights ,16 fog lights,8 license plate lights and 6 tail lights the truck has been to 3 dealers and they all say its either normal or it's only because i did not buy the bulbs from kia well some i did and they do not last either.the last time it was in they had the truck for 9 1/2 minutes and told us there is nothing wrong and for $149.00 they will put in a new bulb.

While driving on hwy 275 at 60 mph. Engine lights came on and steering wheel locked..total system power failure..2 daughters almost lost their lives trying to maneuver this death missile to emergency lane..just in time to miss multiple tractor trailers vehicles from crushing them..not to mention multiple passenger cars in harms way from defective part replaced malfunctioning again... Kia claims no responsibility even though defective part is clearly at fault..have firestone mechanic willing to substantiate claim and is willing to help in class action lawsuit.. I urge everyone that has any history with this deathtrap to please get the message out that this vehicle will kill you..most likely their other vehicles will as well...do not ever drive or put anyone you love in any vehicle that they make!!!!! my daughters are scarred for life and never want to drive this vehicle or anything at this point..i am going to make sure that everyone that i can reach via social media really really understands the truth of this vehicles death warrant.

While driving on route 495 north in massachusetts between exits 7 and 8, my kia sorento lost power to the engine to the point i had to stop in the breakdown lane. No warning of prior smell or power loss had occurred prior to the incident. Towed to two different service stations and both informed me that the engine failed and lost compression on more than one cylinders. Very dangerous situation to be on the highway and losing power.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle decelerated and stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart. In addition, when the contact inserted fuel in the vehicle, fuel spewed out the fuel tank. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.

While under motion on highway at 65+ mph, lost power steering due to crank shaft bolt and pulley failure, resulting in complete loss of accessory functions.

The overflow bottle for the radiator has been leaking again.the first one that came with the car was replaced in 2011 and now we are having to replace the radiator reservoir again.

My check engine light came on 2 months ago and i brought it to a kia dealership who told me it was the cylinders that were miss firing and the belts needed to be replaces and they fixed that. I asked about the crankshaft and they told me it was fine. When i left the light came back on and they told me i need new spark plugs, fixed that and the light came back on again.while driving on the highway the break light and battery light came on and the car began to loose power.now the car is at another dealership and they are telling me it's the crankshaft. After reading what has happened with many other people i can see the original problem was the crankshaft.i have spent over $4k on fixing the car and the car is not worth it.

I purchased this car brand new from stevens kia in patchogue, ny and had them replace the timing belt @ 58k miles as per their guide lines. While driving the car i lost my power steering and electrical charging system, i was going around 45mph, i lost control of the car and was able to get it on the side of the road without any damage to the car or anything else. I called corporate kia and explained the problem and was told the car is out of warranty.(it has 123k miles on it).they told me if i wanted i could have it towed to a kia dealer and they would look at it for a diagnosis fee, but it was still out of warranty and they also told me my vin# didn't fall into the recall they had concerning that issue.i had my mechanic look at it and he told me the crankshaft dowel pin snapped on the timing gear causing the harmonic balancer to fall off thus taking all the belts with it.it costed me over $2,000 to have the car repaired. After doing a goggle search it seems this is a common problem with these cars and is being ignored by corporate kia.

Driving my 2003 kia sorento in town when the brake, oil and check engine lights come on and lost my power steering. After almost hitting a couple cars got it to my in laws house to find that the crankshaft bolt had backed out of the harmonic balancer and caused all the belts to stop. Called my mechanic and he said it is a common thing for kia's. Told me to take the bolt out and inspect it to see if the threads are stretched if so to get a new bolt. After trying to get the bolt loose it will not budge. Now its on a trailer on its way to the mechanics house. Just paid my first payment on it last month. Bought it used because my wife liked the vehicle and had a thirty day warranty and wouldn't you know it 36 days after i purchased it something like this happens.

As i was leaving work, the crankshaft bolt broke, and the bottom/pulley came out and hit the road.thank god i was still in the parking lot. I had it towed to a automotive shop to have it fixed it ,has $ 768.45 plus 75.00dollars to tow it.i got my 2003-sorento back on 06/20/2013on 07/06/2013 i was going down the hwy about 55mph. And the crankshaft/bolt broke again after only having driven 1,674miles.i am a single mom of two ,living week to week and i can,t afford to fix it again and it is our only car.if kia is not going to fix the crank/shaft bolt ( it is a dealer item only) and they keep breaking ,just look at all the reputeincidents, over and over, then they need to be made to do a recall , i would like to know if theiris a class action law suit on this matter.

The car started making a scrubbing sound and the brakes would not work. The next day the brakes worked scrubbing sound continued and we were told by the mechanic that the engine needs replacing.

Crankshaft pulley bolt sheered off and then the pulley fell off busting the power steering pull completely off. Making me almost loose control and flying off the freeway at 60mph with my child with me, very scary. Car was still under warranty but because it was the bolt that broke the bolt was not covered by warranty work. Replaced all by manufacture on july 16th 2012. Costing $1,300. This last week on fathers day my husband was driving the car to get his daughter and the bolt sheered off again and it is less then 12 months since this happened but because the warranty is 12 months or 12,000 miles, we were 1,000 miles over and now the dealership says its our problem and now we have to buy a whole new engine this time.our car was fixed by portland kia and now its at washington kia, washington kia is saying that portland did it incorrectly and they should make this right but portland kia is not taking any fault for over torquingthe bold with 130 pounds of a torque.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving 65 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the catalytic converter and crankshaft bolt failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred several times. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

I bought a 2003 kia sorento from my niece back in november 2013 for $2000 and not even two weeks into owning this vehicle, the crank shaft broke in half! the bolt broke off in half inside the crank shaft pulley and the other half of the bolt was inside the crank shaft case. To my understanding, this is the second time that the crank shaft needed repairing (my niece, husband who were the first and original owners to this kia sorento had it break down on him on the freeway as well, had to get it towed to kia then paid them to fix it when they owned the vehicle) but this time, when this issue happened again while i owned the vehicle, the crank shaft failed in a greater and more costly condition then the first time the crank shaft failed on them. Which then caused engine failure, loss of power steering, loss of the charging system, loss of the cooling system and loss of control of the vehicle, everything shut down, vehicle wouldn't start up after that and it could have been a very dangerous situation as it happened while on the freeway and while my husband, my daughter and my granddaughter was in the vehicle traveling. It could have jeopardize their life's as well as other!

The bolt holding the harmonic balancer pulley to the crankshaft fell out and all the engine belts and pulleys stopped turning resulting in a loss of power steering, and making the vehicle very difficult to steer.this happened at a low speed and the driver was barely able to turn off the road without an accident.at a higher speed, in heavy traffic, or on mountain roads, the result would likely have been much worse.the car was towed to a kia dealer and repaired for approximately $1,500.00, replacing the failed parts with new parts and with a warranty of 12 months/10 thousand miles.previously, at 70 thousand miles as preventive maintenance, the timing belt was replaced by a kia dealer.kia motors, having known of many failures of the bolt, sprocket, and pulley, should have upgraded these parts years ago and issued a recall or at least a service bulletin to avoid such dangerous failures.after our experience, we did not trust this car and traded it in for a new car from hopefully a more responsible manufacturer.

The bolt on the crankshaft pulley as well as the pin broke off causing the motor to stop and overheat dumping all the antifreeze and stopping all belts. My mother could have been injured while driving but it ended up being she was just blocking traffic thankfully and not on the highway. This seems to be a very common issue with hundreds if not thousands complaining about the crankshaft pulley bolt and pin. Kia says they won't do anything as it is out of warranty and i am not the original owner. This may have been fixed once before on the vehicle due to failure and i am very worried this may happen again with worse consequences. My mechanic was able to provide a temporary/permanent fix but we really dodged a bullet and it could have caused immediate catastrophic damage. I'm disappointed with all of the serious complaints that kia still has not recalled it for 2002-2009 sorento models.

Driving vehicle at about 45mph, engine started making a screeching noise and got louder when accelerating. There was a loud bang from engine area and immediately lost all power and ability to steer and brake. We were approaching a busy intersection and had to pull the emergency brake to avoid running a red light into oncoming traffic. Had vehicle towed to our dealership. The crankshaft pulley bolt snapped off and the belt and pulley fell off. The bolt did not break far enough into the engine block so repair was able to replace it. After this happened we learned of the safety concern with said vehicle and kia denies anything wrong with their sorentos. There is a pending lawsuit against kia for this known problem. This is a very dangerous situation and we advised the dealer that we want to trade the vehicle as it poses a very serious safety problem. Kia should provide a major recall. Now getting a hard time from dealer. We are stuck in the middle and still owe a lot on this hazardous vehicle.

I was driving along and my battery, brake lights came on. I lost power steering and brakes.i popped the hood and realized that i had lost 2-3 belts.i had it towed to a mechanic shop, national chain who said the harmonic balancer had fallen off.upon inspection, the crankshaft bolt had broken.many, many complaints about this problem online.

I purchased car from orginal owner about 4 years ago with around 47k miles.within a month or two the engine light came on. After numerous visits over the course of the last 4 years to the dealership, comments on the work orders that they could not figure out the problem, replacing the timing belts, plugs, wires and coils i am told that the 4th cylinder is bad and based upon the issue i am looking at between $2800.00 to $4,000 to fix.if its the top end the lesser of the two numbers and if its the bottom end i was told that i should consider wether or not i want to sink $4,000 into the car at this point. Whats more disturbing is when researching the issue on various websites i come to find out the most reoccuring problem is the crankshaft bolt coming out and causing serious damage and a very dangerous situation for the driver.the response by kia seems to be consistent and now knowing that they do not stand behind their warranties, issue recalls(crankshaft bolt 2007) and still expect their customers to pay for the repairs i can confidently say i will never purchase a kia product again.the car currently has 67,00 miles on it and i am intrigued by the comments and requests for a class action lawsuit against kia.i am hopping that a enough people have the desire to follow through and if needed i would support.

The crankshaft bolt supporting the timing sprocket and balance pulley snapped again for the third time. Right now the vehicle is in the the kia dealer service center to replace it. Once again they are asking for a ridiculous amount of money to fix. Last bolt lasted 4,000 miles before it snapped while driving 25 mph.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The vehicle stalled and lost motive power while driving the contact was concerned for his safety when the vehicle stallthe contact was concerned that it was related to the fuel systemwhile driving at approximately 60 mph, the sputtered and stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics where the fuel pump was replaced, a tune up was performed, the camshaft sensor, and timing belt was also replaced however, the failure recurred. The contact stated was concerned that the fuel system was the cause of the failure. Lakeshore kia, 330 e howze beach rd #2, slidell, la 70461, (888) 220-8645, was contacted and informed of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted nor informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

I was driving and heard ascreeching sound and lost my power steering.i had vehicle towed to my local garage and was informed that the crankshaft bolt, roll pin and crankshaft sprocket were all damaged because the bolt had broken.the garage repaired the car and i was informed that this is a common problem with kia sorento models.the crankshaft bolt part number had changed and been redesigned which shows that kia knows of an issue. The shop had to replace the crankshaft sprocket, roll pin and crankshaft bolt.

I have service records showing i had the crankshaft pulley replaced at 55,000 miles under warranty by kia.the crankshaft pulley broke off at 105,000 miles. I was able to have the vehicle repaired cost $1500 out of my pocket.on 1/11/2015 the crankshaft pulley broke off for a 3rd time, shearing the threads to the engine, and causing the engine to no longer work. All 3 events caused loss of power and able to steer the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle lost power. The brake light and battery light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart after numerous attempts. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the crankshaft bolt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorrento. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also mentioned that a 'snow' warning light illuminated as well. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for a diagnostic test or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 202,699.

While driving my daughter to school, vehicle lost steering in a turn causing us to narrowly miss hitting a utility pole. Vehicle had to be towed to service garage where they confirmed that the crankshaft pulley bolt had become loose causing the harmonic balancer pulley to wobble, break and cause damage to all surrounding engine components. $1700.00 repair did not work and issue recurred. After a second repair attempt, same issue occurred again this time with the crankshaft bolt having sheered off. Vehicle is a serious safety hazard, is not drivable at this time, and will this time cost minimally $3500.00 for a replacement motor....and potentially a life. It is imperative that the nhtsa mandate a recall on these vehicles as it is ludicrous to wait for a death or multiple deaths before acting on what i am well aware is a commonly reported and potentially deadly problem. A good part of "safety" occurs in being proactive. The absence of a recall on this is mind boggling. Nhtsa must act.

The contact owned a 2003 kia sorento. While driving at 60 mph, the contact stated that smoke came from out of the vents. The contact pulled over on the shoulder and exited the vehicle. There were sparks coming from the engine and the vehicle caught on fire. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was totaled and towed away. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000. Th vin was not available.

While driving on highway approx 55mph the car just power. Dead gas pedal. Had to get over to shoulder but could not due to the steering locking up and the car shutting down. I got assistance from passerby who go me over to shoulder. I started up the car and it started up and ran with no issue. Sudden shut dowm of engine is very dangerous. Once i got home and had the car checked the mechanic could not duplicate the incident in order to make repairs. This happened 2 more times and only happens to me on highway driving. Never in city driving.

In february this beautiful vehicle became a nightmare quick. A horrid sound came from below and i lost steering, several lights on the dashboard lit up and our was very difficult controlling the suv. Me and my children were very afraid. I allowed the suv to slow n it veered off and jumped the curb. After a tow, $2000 bucks plus, and several shops including kia is just sitting like hunks unless i can stuff another $2000 or so in. Kia needs to fix this!!

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. In addition, fuel would spew from the filler neck when refueling and the interior lights would flicker on and off sporadically.the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed, who was unable to generate a failure code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000 and the current mileage was 180,000.

I was told by the mechanic that "something happened inside the engine that cannot be repaired".prior to the engine failure (may, 2014) the rear throttle plate came apart and lodged in the lower intake manifold.the mechanic was unable to retrieve the screws and one was even lodged in a cylinder head.a throttle plate assembly was installed and the car was drivable but with an audible noise.at this time i was told the same problem existswith many kia's and yet a recall has not been issued. My car is not drivable, it's a v6 and the left side of the engine is completely shut down and i feel kia could have avoided this with a recall when they have known for years that the problem exists.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine light illuminated before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact also indicated that while refueling, fuel spilled from the filler neck. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 58,000.

Crankshaft bolt backed out lost power steering brakes, kia is aware of this problem from 2002 to 2009 many reports have been filed, its the manufacturing of the bolt which is to small, they are not standing by this defect, there is no permenant fix for this and kia isn't warning anyone of this problem which could lead into a fatile accident with injuries and death.going at a high rate of speed there would be no control even at slow there is no easy turning the wheel.now im stuck with this problem and a temp fix wont fix it,so now i have no vehicle or anyway to get one,no way to work,no money to temp fix it,this is unjust and this vehicle should have never passed specs to be on the road.kia should step up and honor there products, they are deceiving buyers and putting there life in danger and u don't know it till it happens,i didn't...i was taking my daughter to school i am thankful i wasn't on the highway possible resulting in my familys life or someone else on the road, with no control all because of there negligence not caring for peoples lifes but for money, its sad .if u pull up crankshaft bolt for kia it will show you all the complaints and problems and this is a manufacturing problem and a dangerous defect, because you lose control of handiling of your vehicle.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that the rpms would not go over 4,000 and smoke appeared from the engine. The contact stated that the speed would not exceed 40 mph and the engine was draining the oil. The vehicle was taken to peak kia (5077 s wadsworth blvd, littleton, co 80123, (303) 904-7800) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed an oil change. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to call the dealer. The failure mileage was 56,300. *dt

I was driving the vehicle in the parking lot when i heard a loud noise and lost control of the steering because the car died and the steering wheel locked up. I looked under the hood and notice all the belts and front of the motor fell off and was laying at the bottom. I called the tow truck they towed it to the kia dealer. Where they told me its a problem the 2003 kia sorento has. They told me they will replace the engine that was at 38,000 mile. Now the car has 72,000 miles on it so that's 34,000 miles on this motor now they tell me the same thing is happening and the motor has to be replaced. So the kia motor is only good for 30,000 miles that's just ridiculous and the cost is on me.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle was shaking abnormally on multiple occasions. The battery warning light and the brake warning light were illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the crank shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The dealer replaced the crankshaft a second time but to no avail. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer for further inspection of the recurring failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was34878.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 to 20 mph when the vehicle would suddenly stall. The vehicle was towed on a few occasions and other times he was able to restart it on its own. The vehicle was inspected by a independent mechanic and they advised him that it was the fuel pump. The vehicle was repaired for the fuel pump. On another occasion it was towed again and they advised him that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired again. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 79,400.

Was driving approx 60 miles per hour and fuel pressure dropped; engine shut off. Was able to restart and drive but for only a few miles at the time. This happened over course of couple of days. Had fuel pumped replaced. After fuel pump was replaced i had problems fueling vehicle. Gas would bubble up and spray out of gas tank. Had to pump slowly. Gas would get all over me, vehicle and ground. Returned vehicle back to repair shop six times over the course of six weeks; had other part replaced. Vehicle still losing fuel pressure, shutting off and not able to pump gas without it spurting out of tank. Vehicle parked as i feel it is not safe to drive for me or daughter. Out of 600 dollars and not vehicle to drive. Something from manufacturer should be done. This is a dangerous situation. I am afraid of vehicle starting a fire with me in it.

Crankshaft bolt recalled 2007 they break off recall done crankshaft bolt broke on 2011crankshaft broke kia will not fix recalled part.

Crankshaft bolt was replaced after recall in 2007. Crankshaft sensor was replaced in april 2011 after malfunctioning and causing car to stall out at anytime, including while doing 65 on the freeway. While driving a few days back, sudden loss of power steering and brake and battery lights came on. Had car towed to dealership where we were told that the bolt, which had been replaced per the recall, had broken, but the warranty on the replaced bolt is only 1 year. Now repair on this will cost over $300 and new bolt will still only be warrantied for one year. So this same problem with this faulty part could continue, but the part is only under warranty for one year.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The engine crankshaft bolt failed in august of 2008. The dealer replaced the engine crankshaft bolt four times. The repairs didn't correct the failure.the manufacturer stated that the continuous failures were dealer error, and they would not assist with the repair. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 111,404 and the current mileage was 118,000.

Engine light came on back in february and had it to two different mechanic shops which replaced spark plugs and one coil pack.engine light still on so i took to kia dealer and they replaced spark plugs with platnium ones and replaced other 2 coil packs.vehicle has been back to dealer several times for the past several months for check engine light replacing intake manifold due to recall but light came back on and they have had my vehicle most recently for the past 4 weeks.i went to pick it up yesterday as they said they had to replace the cylinder heads with reconditioned ones and all gaskets and seals.as i started to leave the dealership light came back on and vehicle is there again.obviously mechanics at dealers don't know what's causing these problems and cannot fix them.i feel that kia should buy everyone out of their sorentos plus give them thevalue of the vehicle (without deducting for problems) plus a 15% compensation for putting the customers through this or maybe put a brand new engine in vehicle.a new engine or remanufactured engine was replaced in this vehicle back in august, 2006.i originally put my date down as march, but looking back, this has been going on since february!!this is the second complaint i am filing.

Driving to store and heard noise. Several warning lights came on and i had no power steering. Returned home and found crank pulley and broken crank pulley bolt laying in the skid plate.

Where do i start?....well not long after we got the piece of junk we had to take it to the kia dealer because the engine light kept coming on, they said it was because the gas cap wasn't being twisted enough and air got in. Well for about 2 weeks the engine light stayed off, we took it back numerous times but it kept coming back on. Then on one occasion i was stranded about 40 miles from home...the car was dead, we had it towed to the dealer, all the belts had come off, they tried to make excuses why kia wouldn't fix it under the warranty, thank god we won that battle...keep in mind, the engine light is still on at this point. Now this year the heater won't stay hot after about 30 seconds it turns cold, as cold as the air. Then with no warning the car over heats and dies on me. We have it towed to the dealer they say it is my fault because when i seen the light come on i should have pulled over, "the light never goes off" kia won't fix it unless we pay for it, and the cost is $10,000. We have one year left and it would be paid off...less than $7,000 and now this. I am so angry, this is not right. I think the kia company needs to be investigated. Something needs to be done they are ripping everyone off. Taking money from working people and scamming them. They are no better than thieves and liars. They are selling a product along with a promise to service it should something go wrong but not honoring that promise. Oh and did i mention the head lights are always going out?

As i was driving down the freeway, the engine stalled and all lights on the dash came on.i was able to pull to safety (just by sheer luck) and called kia 1-800 for towing service.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership.i was initially told that the timing belt was malfunctioning.supposedly the analyzer showed that there were "multiple misfires.i was asked if the car was missing prior to the stall.i told them it ran as smooth as silk.i authorized them to replace the timing belt despite the fact that it had been replaced as part of scheduled maintenance two months earlier.the dealership then called and told me they had "good news and bad news". The timing belt was repaired but it appeared the head was blown and that kia refused to pay for repairs because the overflow bottle was cracked.they stated that the head blew because the engine overheated and was caused by my negligence.the gauges never indicated that the car overheated.they are unable to tell me how much the repairs will cost because there may be further damage once they tear it down.the estimate is between $2500 and "wore case scenario"$4700i am furious.the car is not yet four years old and still has 36,000 miles left on the warranty.

The reservoir on my 2003 kia sorento ruptured and all the coolant leaked out while i was driving.i pulled off the highway and into a gas station and the let the car cool.i then added in anti- freeze and filled it with water and drove another 10 miles and dropped the car at a repair shop.the next day the car would not start.the kia dealership is saying it is not covered under warranty.

Check engine light will not shut off. Vehicle has been to the dealer several times. Dealership has at times been rude and the problem still exists. They do not know how to fix it.also have problems with headlights burning out very regularly and the back hatch will no longer open.

Like many 2003 kia sorento owners the overflow tank in mine developed a crack in the bottom that is only visible when it is pressurized.although kia knows there is a problem with the overflow tank in most if not all 2003 kia sorento's and has sent out a tsb to their mechanics over how to replace it.as soon as my car had overheated due to the leak, i had to pay around $100 to buy a new tank from the nearest dealership but alas after over heating my car developed more problems and engine having to be thrown out.this has cost me over $4300 in repairs so far, and have not been able to drive the car i am still making monthly payments on in nine months. None of which are covered to the warranty due to their "10 year 100,000 mile" powertrain warranty not being transferable to those who buy the car used.

On july 20, 2007 driving home from work in the rain, on the highway my car made a loud noise and i lost steering and did everything i could to not hit cars beside of me and the poor guy behind me from crashing in to me. Called my husband who came and picked up the harmonic balance off the highway, lifted the hood to find a large bolt (now i know crankshaft bolt) broken. Which i have.i searched and found where there were several complaints and that kia was going to recall.i called kia on the 1st of aug. (car has been sitting in my driveway because it has 68000 miles and i am the second owner), who had my car towed to the rusty wallace kia in louisville, tn. (checked the mail when i came home and there was a recall on crankshaft bolts) imagine that.it is still sitting there at the dealership.they keep telling me the district manager is trying to decide whether or not to fix it.i had spoken to a couple of tech's. And they told me my motor was gone. The bolt broke off inside the motor.kia is now jerking me around.i have had to put off vacation and my husband and i are sharing a vehicle which is costing me a fortune in gas because we work in opposite directions and i work about 30 miles from my home.can not get any help.i have researched and found huge complaints about this.kia has known about this.

The crank bolt broke july 23, 2013. The second time was, the crank bolt again and it broke december 19, 2014. The odometer was at 133181 for the second bolt break.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving 40 mph, the contact noticed that the front end of the vehicle began to vibrate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the crank shaft pulley bolt was replaced. The failure continued. The failure mileage was 83,000 and the current mileage was 107,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while attempting to turn on the defogger/defrost system, the heater failed to operate, and no heat was present.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer, who determined antifreeze fluid leaked out of the reservoir tank because it was fractured and needed to be replaced.the replacement parts were not available at the dealer, and the manufacturer was alerted, who confirmed the parts were not available.the dealer instructed the contact to monitor the level of antifreeze fluid daily and add more antifreeze if needed.

Crankshsft pulley bolt broke on 2003 kia sorento v6 model. This caused loss of power steering in vehicle.

2003 kia sorento. Consumer states bolt loosened while driving *tgwthe consumer stated while driving, the brake and battery light illuminated. The consumers husband soon discovered it was difficult to turn the steering wheel.her husband was able to pull over to the side of the road. As he examined the vehicle, he toucheda bolt, which was extremely hot, and it was the same bolt that was recalled, which had become loose again.the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The consumer was informed the vehicle needed a new engine at a cost of $6,000 even though there was no damage to the rest of the engine. The consumer wanted the bolt to be re-threaded. The dealer advised the consumer, they did not have the equipment, to perform the re-thread of the bolt, but instead of needing a new engine, they could replace the crankshaft at a cost of $3,500.

I have now had the crank shaft pulley break 3 times, the engine and other parts have had to be replaced due to this.it makes the vehicle suddenly inoperable and unsafe.

Back in oct 2008 went to car at 5am to go to work started my 2003 kia sorento heard this noise got out to raise hood before i could saw coolant coming from under my car didn't have time to really investigate had my sister take me to work when i came home had car towed to kia dealer they advised me that my coolant reservoir had crack and i needed to have replaced at 250.xxat this point they did tell me there was a recall on my sorento made appt to take back to have part replaced never, before this so call recall part was replaced never had any warning lights come on after they say they replaced the part my engine light came on took my sorento back to the same dealer 5 times within a 2 month period they kept telling me nothing was wrong with my car so i let the light stay on, moved to a different city tired of seeing this light on took to another kia dealer they ran a diagnostic for 125.00to tell me nothing was wrong with my car but i noticed when i was leaving the engine light was off when back in to find out why and how did the light go off he stated he turned it off now while sitting at a traffic light with no warning my car just shut off got started back but this time with a loud banging noise i was only about 3 blocks from my home so i drove about 5 miles per hr to gethome to have to have a tow truck come get my car the dealer has yet to let me know what the problem is....

Coolant spilling from the reservoir (which was replaced in december 2006, the part was on national back order.i waited 5 weeks for the part to arrive).the car stalled several times and steam came from the right side of the hood. Today is 8/31/07, similar incident happened with the car. The dealer said that the hose from the coolant reservoir was cracked.i asked since the part was related to the reservoir why did i have to pay additional for the hose repair ($193.30).the dealer said the hose was a separate part.i don't understand why kia doesn't recall the reservoir and any associated parts.

First incident - car stalled and fluid steamed from the hood.it had to be towed after several restarts to drive to the dealer.the coolant reservoir was cracked.this part is on national backorder and i have so far been waiting approx. Four weeks for the part.the dealer said kia has halted manufacturing/distributing the part just for new cars and requested that the parts be shipped to the dealers for repair installations.the dealer customer service is great and i have no complaint about the dealer.

2003 kia sorentoharmonic balancer bolt broke off reported to kia they will not honor any recalls, they said it was a recall from several years ago . But if its a safety issue like this they should try harder to inform people of this before there is major accident . Just wish they would honor a recall that they have had with this bolt. I never received a recall notice or it is not posted on any site that i could find, ,just want my car fixed without a $2900 bill at the end .

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle was purchased in 2007. The previous owner had the crank shaft pulley bolt recall repair performed.while driving 35 mph the crank shaft pulley bolt snapped off.the vehicle was driven 1 mile to her destination and then towed to an authorized dealer.the dealer replaced the crank shaft pulley bolt in may 2010. The failure happened again on july 22, 2010. The vehicle was in the dealers possession when the complaint was filed. The contact was unable to provide a vin. The failure mileage was 82,779. The current mileage was 84,000.

The check engine light keeps coming on and it has been checked by a dealership and they don't know the problem, the front headlamps keep burning out.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that the bolt crankshaft sensor bolt failed and caused the belts to fracture and the power steering to malfunction. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where it was repaired yet the failure recurred shortly after. The vehicle was not further repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current mileage was approximately 106,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorrento.the contact stated that after starting the vehicle, a long bang was heard from under the vehicle as it stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the crank shaft pulley detached from the vehicle abnormally. The vehicle was repaired yet the failure recurred later while the contact was driving 40 mph.the vehicle was again towed to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the crankshaft pulley had yet again, detached from the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the vehicle was repaired a second time. The failure mileage was 32,500 and the current mileage was 76,000.

Kia informed me of a "crank shaft bolt" recall for my 2003 sorento lx.3 days after having this repair performed, my car began to just "die" at high speeds on the freeway, but it was intermittent and the kia dealership told me they probably wouldn't be able to find the problem if they couldn't recreate it.an internet search on the issue reveals many consumers having this same problem which ultimately turns out to be a defective "crank shaft sensor" -- but kia service jerks people around and keeps their cars for days/weeks saying that they "cannot recreate the problem".this is a huge safety issue when your vehicle just suddenly dies on the freeway with absolutely no warning... Not even sputtering. I printed out several consumer accounts describing my exact problem--revealing it's ultimately the crank shaft sensor, and kia is refusing to acknowledge the relationship between their repair work and the likelihood that it's the crank shaft sensor -- admittedly holding my vehicle without even reviewing the basic diagnostics.

The contact owns a 2003 kia serento. The contact stated that the bolt to the harmonic balancer would fracture at anytime. The contact also stated that the dealer repaired the failure once, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified, but denied assistance with repairs. The failure mileage was 69,000 and the current mileage was 84,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.while driving between 35-40 mph, the motor in the cooling fan failed.the motor was attempting to turn over; however, it could not because the fuse in the fuse box did not blow out as it should.the wire from the terminal blocker melted into the fuse box.this caused the wires to burn and the passenger compartment became engulfed in smoke.the vehicle was driven home and did not catch on fire.the vehicle has two safety features, one in the terminal block and the other in the fuse box, but they did not work.the contact called kia and was informed that the warranty ended at 60,000 miles.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 100,000.

A screw that hold the crank shaft & the tamperget broken while i wasdrivingto my house. The dealer in puerto rico said that i have to pay$2,521.00 to fix it. Buti heard from an insurance agent that kia was told by some government agency, i think that agency is nhtsa; to modify the screw involved in my incident, causing the lost control of my sorento. The steering get hard to move.

Harmonic balancer bolt broke.traveling less than 5mph. Vehicle started to vibrate. Upon investigation, found that the main bolt holding the harmonic balancer in had sheared off. There were some rust deposits at the breakage point.this occured while on an offroad trip. The vehicle was left in the backcountry. I will have to attempt to make repairs in the field in order to get it to the dealer. There is no way to tow the vehicle out of its current position.

My engine blew on the car it only has about 78,000 miles on itgets regular oil changes and no major problems. I have never had a warning light come on as to indicate i had some oil or engine problems. The car had just been involved in an auto accident and been sitting since 12/15 i just got it back on 01/23 and the engine blows on 01/30 and they want to charge me $5,000 to replace ......i have heard things about kia engines but my suv was in fine condition and all of a sudden my engines blows....sounds like a defect to me.

2003 kia sorento. Consumer states several problems with vehicle *tgwthe consumer stated on two occasions, the pin that held the crankshaft together broke loose. The crankshaft sensor located behind the timing belt failed.

No warning of failure.happened at 61000 miles 1000 over warranty.crankshaft bolt broke , andthe mechanic sad he never saw something like this.so i think kia should be responsible ..he got the parts from kia, and on7/15/07 the bolt cameoff againwhile carwas in parking lot of wife's work place. Kia should fix it . I was planning on getting a mini van, and it won't be a kia, depending on what they do about my serento.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.while driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed without warning.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that they would have to disassemble the engine at the cost of $861.the dealer replaced the head gaskets, water pump assembly, and the coolant tank reservoir.the total repair cost was $1,691.after returning home, the contact had to take the vehicle to his local dealer two weeks later and they stated that they would have to disassemble the engine in order to locate the failure.the dealer identified warped cylinders as being the failure component, and the head gaskets, pump assembly, and the coolant tank reservoir were replaced again.the vehicle is currently at the dealer being repaired.the failure mileage was 66,400 and current mileage is 66,800.the coolant reservoir leaked which caused the vehicle to overheat. Updated 05/13/08.

Overheating , the overflow and filler tank cracking open on the bottom out of sight . Caused me to replace the waterpump and thermostat before being able to find the problem and left myself and family stranded. Took to dealer who found the crack after checking and stated they nationwide they had to replace over a half a million tanks on these vehicles at $200.plus per job notto mention the cost of created problems from the overheat they are talking about multi millions of loss to consumers .

Engine and cooling system.

Last feb. The coolant reservoir cracked, lost all coolant.towed to dealer.they fixed it and told me that i needed a new belt.i didn't want anything more to happen as i take my 90 year old mom around, they replaced one belt for $120. Never ran right after that, with screeching noises and no more a/c.today, just as i was driving onto the highway-i started losing my steering and i immediately pulled over off the ramp, then it stalled as i was pulling over.i have read about this happening to a lot of people and was just waiting for it to happen.well it did and thank god i wasn't going 70 on the highway yet.it has been towed to dealer and they said it was the bolt on the drive shaft that broke.then he said that since i'm only 8000 miles away from 60k, then i should just do the timing belt service now because if i don't and it goes, then my engine will blow.so i guess this is what i have to wait to happen next and i'm sure it will.thousands of people can't be wrong.don't buy a kia!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Engine coolant overflow container is cracked.

Engine coolant leaking.car parked in garage at 66,000 miles.won't hold coolant is leaking at heated coil.i have taken this kia to the dealership and have not received the source of the problem yet.i saw and read the many complaints and similar problem with the kia sorento cooling system.that is why i am entering another complaint to help get something done.with every vehicle there will be problems.however, this sorento seems to have a ton of engine coolant problems.the only recall i have on this 2003 kia sorento is a fuel assembly issue.i would love to receive a list of any and all recalls.hopefully add the engine cooling system to it.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.the contact stated that the coolant tank was cracked and all of the coolant leaks out the vehicle.when this occurs, the temperature sensor stops working.while driving 65 mph, the vehicle overheats without the contact's knowledge; therefore, he continues to drive until it fails.the dealer did not want to repair the vehicle because of the engine failure.the failure mileage was 71,000.

While driving the sorento to his girlfriends house my son noticed that the temperature gage was higher than normal. He wasn't to far from town so he called and i told him to get some 50/50 antifreeze to put in the reservoir. He did this and had no more problems until the next day on his way home. His girl lives about 20 miles from us. About halfway home the vehicle just died. Had the vehicle towed to kia dealership and was told that the engine needed to be replaced. No warning lights or gauges identified anything wrong. Was also told that engine was driven while excessively hot. Not because a warning light or gauge told us so! if all of this cost to us is due to a small piece of plastic someone needs to take kia out to the woodshed."the contact stated that the coolant tank was cracked and all of the coolant leaks out the vehicle. When this occurs, the temperature sensor stops working. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle overheats without the contacts knowledge; therefore, he continues to drive until it fails. The dealer did not want to repair the vehicle because of the engine failure and no recording ofprior maintenance. The failure mileage was 67,000.

Coolant tank cracked.called kia and they said that it was not covered by warranty but that the part had been re designed.so i guess there was a problem with the tanks.but kia would not cover the replacement of the defective tank.

Same thing engine light comes on i pull over tank cracked , engine ruined, kia told me they don't care and won't help. Engine failure due to manufacturer defect car had 110 k on it, but they knew about the tank and the engine concerns, kia should not be allowed to get away with this, $4,000 later i have a car that should never had broken.

2003 kiapart # 25430-3e201 tsb # kt2007073101driving down road coolant over flow tank splits leaks fluid out, ruins engine, find out kia hada tsb out to replace tank with stronger re-engineered tank. Never notified public, bad design costs me thousands of dollars because not covered under warranty.i am left stranded 10 pm at night on side of interstate in pouring rain.

When i stopped at 12,000 ft mt pass summit in remote area i noticed fluid draining from my kia sorento. I limped into small town -had the radiator checked and refilled-temperature gauge did not register hot-i was sent on my way but then became stranded in middle park area of colorado (kremmling) with what was discovered to be cracked, leaking resevoir. No authorizedrepair shop in area and kia wanted me to cross mt pass to get into denver 100 miles away!--kia refuses to honor warranty as i was not at authorized service shop-it took me days to locate the needed parts and have the replacement done. Upon returning home to authorized kia dealer for a general inspection of the problem i was told there were 3 other vehicles with same incident--now there are 2-3 more cracked and leaking resevoirsplus mine -(told to me by the kia service department)--kia sorento 2003; mileage 33,500--old part is available for inspection--interesting to note-new resevoir is of different design, so kia knew there was a problem!

Vehicle would not start/has been in shop 4 times in last week/1st trip replace throttle body 2nd recalibrate engine 3rd trip egi unit faulty engine light on /replace egi unit 4th trip replaced throttle body(again) calibrated.checked idle set ..vehicle was kept for 2 days on 2 of the visits. *nlm

I have consistently had problems with my car from the 1st month of purchase.the major problems have been:check engine light kept coming on and a problem with the drive shaft.the check engine light problem was resolved approximately 2 attempts after it first appeared. It was diagnosed as a problem with the tsp.the problem with the drive shaft has not yet been resolved as it still continue to vibrate at speeds higher than 65 mph.these problems concern me as it may interfere or hinder with my driving abilities and cause an accident.

2003/04 kia sorento crank shaft pulley bolt is failing.there was a notice sent by kia in july 2007 to notify the owners of the issue and to have it fixed.the replacement bolts are failing.when the replacement bolts fail it is causing the vehicle to stop no matter what speed the driver is traveling and the steering is locking up.the manufacturer will not address this.this is a an extreme safety issue. Some owners have reported this part failing up to 4 times in less then 24 months.the first incident was june 27, 2007 and the second incident was 8/27/2009.

While driving our 2003 kia sorento we heard a loud clunk and bang. Pulled the vehicle over and found the crankshaft pulley laying at the bottom of the engine compartment. This is the second time this has happened. The first was in june of 2010 with 78,560 miles. The dealer replaced the broken bolt. (part number 23127 39801qqk) this is what caused the failure. When the bolt failed it caused the following additional damage, timing belt, sensor crank angle, blade sensing crank. The total bill came to 1197 for a bolt failing. The bolt failed again 14 months later on august 8th 2011. Same exact problem that occurred the first time. The car is currently in the shop and i'm fighting with the dealer now to repair it under warranty. I've done some research on this and this is becoming a growing issue with the sorentos. If you own one have the bolt on inspected during every oil change. If the bolt seems loose have it checked out immediately. It could save you thousands.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.while driving 45 mph, the crank shaft failed and the vehicle was towed.the total cost of the rental expense was $600.the contact stated that when the crankshaft failed, he was stranded.the kia dealer claimed to have repaired the vehicle.there are no warning indicators present when the failure occurs.the manufacturer stated that they could not be of assistance.the vehicle was repaired under warranty.the current mileage is 48,000 and failure mileage was 40,000.the consumer stated the repair was covered under recall, since a recall was issued, however he is requesting reimbursement for the rental car. The radiator assembly was replaced due to a leak at the lower seam. Updated

Crankshaft pulley broke off.kia dealer recommends engine replacement.cost would be $7000.researching this topic find others with same situation.this is a serious safety problem.the power steering becomes inoperable and the power shuts off while driving.

I have heard about the crankshaft bolts breaking off in the kia sorento's. That is a major safety problem, and i am scared to drive my 2003 over 45 miles an hour. My service dept, dick edwards kia, informed me to have them check the torque on the bolt everytime i go in for service. Kia should own up to this problem and not have its owners scared to drive it.

The sorento suv was bought in june 2003. With less than 1000 miles in june 2003 the sorento was brought to the dealer's service to check an oil leak on the front axle. The dealer cited an overfilled gear oil and the gear oil level was corrected. After few weeks, in july 2003,the sorento was brought back again to the same dealer because the gear oil leak was still there. The dealer kept the sorento, citednon-drivable and have to order the part.the gasket was replaced and sorento was test driven. The gear oil leak still showed up. Now the dealer said that they got hold of kia and cited that they have to replace the bleeder tube. The bleeder tube was replaced and the gear oil leak did not go away. At this time, the whole unit of the front drive axle was ordered and replaced the originally installed unit of the sorento.after the dealer test drove the newly installed front axle, the gear oil was still leaking. At this time, for almost a month, the sorento is still in the repair bay of the dealer awaiting direction from kia.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 65 mph there was a screeching noise that came from the engine.the dealer determined that the bolt on the drive shaft pulley had sheared off and that the crank shaft needed to be replaced.the manufacturer has been alerted.updated 7/13/2006 -

"the battery and brake lightswere on the dashboard. Also, the vehiclelost power steering. Opened the hood and the engine area and found the alternator beltfelloff its pulley. The power steering belt ranoff the alternator belt. Thiswas why the vehicle had no power steering. Checked the crank shaft pulley, and found the crank shaft pulley had play, and the crankshaft boltbacked out of place.kia has a pit stop highlight , stating that the crank shaft bolt backedout of place due to improper torque settings on the crank shaft bolt. Highlight kt2006042501. Removed the radiator to gain access to the crank shaft pulley. Removed the crank shaft pulley and inspected. Found the crank shaft sprocket pinsheared off due to the crank shaft pulley backing out place. The crankshaft sprocket holds the pulley in place. The crank shaft pulley, sprocket, and bolt will have to be replaced. Removed the timing belt and to replace the sprocket. Installed everything back in place and started the vehicle. Oil was now leaking from behind the timing cover. Removed all parts again to gain access to the timing belt. Found oil was leaking from behind the timing sprocket. Removed the sprocket, and found the crank shaft rubber seal hadsigns of wear andwasslightly bent. Replaced the crank shaft rubber seal, and reinstalled sprocket and timing belt. Started vehicle, and nosigns of leakswerenoticed. Road tested vehicle , and vehicle drove properly. The ownercomplainedand questionedthe result of the loss of power steering due to the improper torque setting on the crank shaft bolt as suggested by the narrative of the mechanic's report and as stated above.if it was so does the owner have remedy in contacting kia or the dealership )for possible reimbursement for the parts and labor associated with this part of mechanical performance.

While driving my 2003 kia sorento on august 14, 2007, the engine began to make noises, loose power and slow down rapidly. Two belts popped completely off and the car lost all its power and shut down completely. I towed the car to the kia dealer at arbor place in douglasville, georgia for repairs. The dealer informed me that the crankshaft bolt was broken and did damage the crankshaft pulley and sprocket.the dealer made the repairs but after driving the car a few days later on august 22, 2007 it began loosing power again.i turned off the vehicle for approximately 10 minutes and tried to start it up again but it would not start at all.i again towed it to the kia dealership at arbor place.in short, they said that the car was dumping gasoline into the cylinders and that when theytest drove it, the car looses gasoline rapidly.the car clearly has major manufacturer defects that should be fixed by kia at no cost to me.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving various speeds a noise and a vibration was noticed.upon further inspection, unusual wear on the inner tread of the front tires was also noticed.the vehicle was driven to the dealer who could not duplicate the problem.updated 9/11/2006 -the left front strut was noisy due to loose bottom strut bolt.the dealer tightened end and secured bolt.the consumer felt vibration in brake pedal when reversing and making turns.the dealer resurfaced the brake rotors and pads.the vibration returned.the dealer indicated that the rotors were warped and replaced them.the vehicle's engine made noise.the dealer adjusted all the belts.the cd player would not eject properly.

My car broke down while driving.....my mechanic advised me that the pulley broke off & i needed to takeit to the dealer... The dealer advised, it will cost me almost $5000...i called kia corporate & with my vin#, they found that it was recalled in 2007 & fixed it & can not be fixed again....my question here is, if it was defective part & broke again, how can this be my fault?i have no car now to use, i can not afford to get it fixed, i still owe more than $5000 on the car....the car is not worth $5000.. I tried to rent a car for a week to see what could be done, that will cost over $400....i am desperate for your help!!thank you so much!!

Second occurrence in less than 900 miles, third occurrence overall, of the crankshaft pulley bolt coming loose.lose of power steering occurs when belts come loose.

1) upon purchase, exhaust smell was strong inside suv, leading to headaches and queasiness.2) took it in within weeks (?)3) a correction was made, part replaced. Since then, the exhaust smell is intermittent, and not as strong.service does not see further issue.

Check engine light keeps coming on.had intake manifold valve replaced per kia, new spark plugs, core covers and new valves plus heads were sent out.vehicle has been back and forth to dealer for past month and a half but has been there entirely for the past 2 weeks.very frustrating as kia will not provide a rental but after some discussion with service at dealer, they have put me in a rental.dealer has been on phone with kia and still cannot come up with a solution.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 35 mph, without warning there was a loss of power.the vehicle was pulled over and then towed to the dealership, who replaced the crankshaft.the problem recurred five weeks later and the vehicle was towed a second time.the dealership put lock spray in to keep the pin on the crankshaft from falling out.

I would like to make a complaint about my 03 kia sorento.i bought this car used in 2004.my husband called kia to check to see if the warranties where transferable and the representative told him they were.since i have had this vehicle, i have had to replace the rear tail/brake lights 3 times, i have had to replace the coolant bottle, my rotors were vibrating when i braked so i had them surfaced and now they vibrate again. My blower fan has gone out and now my crankshaft bolt has broke last week.the vehicle is currently at the dealer.i didn't buy an extended warrant because i was under the impression that the engine, transmission ect was covered up to 100,000 or 5 years, which i was informed that it was only for the original owner.at first, i was just thinking that it was just my bad luck, until i started researching it on the internet and discovered that many people seem to be having the same problems as i am and that is only the those of use who actual post it on the internet, i am sure that there are probably many more that are not reported.at this time, i don't even know how much this is going to cost me at first the deal told me $765.00, then they said may be $3700.00.i think it is ridicules that so many people are having a problem with the crankshaft bolt braking off and ruining the motor of a vehicle that is 3 years old and kia has not done anything about it.i also have seen that many people have had there coolant bottle leaking, again like mine, but they have blown their engines.again why is it that kia is not recall this vehicles for these problems.if my crankshaft bolt had broke while i was driving down the interstate, it chills me to think of what might have happened.someone really needs to help all of us kia owners who are all having the same problem.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.the contact received a recall notice in july of 2007 regarding the crank shaft boat.he took his vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the parts for the repair were unavailable.while driving 25 mph, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument control panel and the engine failed simultaneously.he took his vehicle to the local kia dealer and they stated that the timing belt caused the failure.an inspector from carfax stated that the engine failed because of the crank boat shaft.the manufacturer refused to repair the vehicle without a service charge.the recall number was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 67,000.

My vehicle started acting up whenever i turned on the air condition i would lose power.the engine light would come on and the steering wheel would get real tight and i would not be able to turn it.the vehicle is currently at a kia dealership where it has been for 3 weeks now waiting on parts.not to mention i called kia roadside assistance for 4 days straight before a tow company finally came and towed my car to the dealership.i was told i needed a crank shaft, timing belt, and a engine which is all covered under warranty, but they have not received any of the parts needed for my car.i am still without a vehicle kia says they do not do loaner cars or rentals so i am just frustrated with the whole ordeal.

I have a 2003 kia sorento..crankshaft pulley bolt broke, steering went out, belts and bolt fell off and air stopped working. This is the second time this has happened to me in the past 6 months. The result of this problems caused me to buy a new senor that was $400. After looking on the internet, it seems as though hundreds and maybe thousands of people are having a problem with this and it needs to be recalled. I was on a major highway when my steering went out and i could barely turn the car because the steering had locked. This is extremely dangerous and could potentially injure someone or others around them..please investigate this case.

Headlights/fog lights need to be replaced every 3-4 months.i bought my car new so i know it is not the fault of anyone else, other than the manufacturer.each bulb costs approximately $19.00 [depending on brand and type of bulb}.i know i have spent hundreds of dollars on bulbs since 2003; it is now 2009.

The headlights and brakelights on my vehicle (2003 kia sorento ex) go out approximately every 3-4 months.i have had to replace them at least 12 times since i got the vehicle in 2005. I have had the bulbs replaced by the dealer 3 times just to make sure that it was done correctly and with the kia parts and they still blew out.i have reported this problem to kia 4 times.this is a dangerous situation to be put in andi am required to drive quite often at night.several times i was driving and suddenly my headlights or brakelights went out while i was on the highway which is also dangerous and inconvenient.i feel that something should be done about this problem, based on my research and taking to the kia dealer it is a common and well known problem with 2003 kia sorentos that the headlights and brakelights go out all the time.

I have had my kia sorento for almost a year and i have repeatedly had to change the headlights and tail lights.at least 8 times for the headlights and 4 for the tail.

Headlights and tail light keep going out and fog lights also has happened 8 times now.

I have a 2003 kia sorento that keeps buring bulbs, i have had my car for 3 years now and have to replace bulbs every other month in my car, this is just the headlights, i have replaced the tail lights twice since having my car, but the headlights last only 1 month to 6 weeks.

I own a 2003 kia sorento lx. I used it mainly to go from home to work. This happened 2 days ago, march 16, 2006, at 32247 miles. While making a right turn from a stoplight, i had complete loss of vehicle control, it would not let me stop it and i could not control the steering wheel, it kept turning sharply to the right, and i landed on the sidewalk. Luckily, it happened when i was just entering my neighborhood, going at moderate speed, and there were no cars besides or behind me. To think if i were driving 65-70 mph on the highway and have this happened and lose control, i would have been dead.but it is the second time it happens in 3 1/2 years. The first time was about 1 1/2 year ago, but i did not pay attention to it since i thought it was due to wet conditions. I was entering the multi-level parking lot where i work. I was going up to the 4th floor where i park, and when i turned left on the 3rd floor, the car went out of control, kept going round, and i could not stop. Luckily again, it was so early in the morning that there were no cars in that floor. Surely, a safety-related defect exists. What happened friday almost got me killed. It has happened only twice in all these years, but, no matter what happens, i will never feel safe on this car again. I cannot take any other chance of being killed because of a car's defect. I will be now using my husband's car to travel back and forth to work. Besides that big problem, i have encountered other problem with my sorento. The front and back bulbs blow quite often. I have taken the car to the dealership every time it has needed replacement, and i have all the invoice sheets. I would prefer to have someone contact me in spanish. Thank you kindly.

The check engine light keeps coming on and it has been checked by a dealership and they don't know the problem, the front headlamps keep burning out.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact moved the vehicle off the roadway and the engine rpms increased as the vehicle began to perform normally. The contact also stated that once the fuel tank was below 3/4 full, the engine would lose power and began to idle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was inspected but was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but provided no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that the fuel tank was dispensing the gasoline back out towards her as she added gasoline. When the contact entered the vehicle the fuel gauge reads full when it was not completely full. The dealer was contacted and informed her that there were no recalls in reference to the fuel system. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 107,500.

Approximately 6 months ago, i noticed that i cannot fill up my fuel tank in my 2003 kia sorento without the fuel backing up and kicking back out the tank.i have to fill the tank very slowly and it takes a long time. It just started to occur one day and happens every time i refill.

It is beyond me how kia motors can get away with telling a bunch of automobile engineers, that the problem with there vehicles spitting back gasoline onto a person and kia motors telling them it's an air filter. I took my2003 kia sorento back to the dealers thinking i was going to get a new charcoal filter when all was said and done i received a $20 air filter for the charcoal chamber which had no problem to begin with. I still have a 2003 kia sorento that spits fuel back on to me and i"m waiting for the day someone throws a cigarette butt at me and i catch fire< because i will own kia of america and a wealthy lawsuit against the national trafic safety panel. Do you know i had a short access to a kia site recently and seen over 100 service bulletins, not just 8 that are on this site i guess you people forgot who you work for the united ststes people/not kia motors and you can bet your ass i'm not done until everyone of my service bulletins is addressed so you bean counters better start figuring blame because as i said when i'm done you'll see this is bullshit if this were ford, chevy or chrysler you would have dragged they're ass across the coals well you better start with the slanty eye koreans too. I knew their was a reason my mother didn't want me going into their boston stores when i was a kid. Got help you if this thing catches fire with my kids in it, because my 2 year old is strapped right above your no problem whatsoever i made better go karts when i was 10 years old i dont know what the governments problem is but it better be taken care of or you may find it on your lawn on fire !!!

When fueling my 2003 kia sorento the gas will spew back out (as if under pressure) onto me, the vehicle and the surrounding area.this is a fire hazard.this happens every time i try to put gas into the sorento.the dealership said they could not identify the problem without a costly diagnostic test.they did 'look' at the fuel line and could not see a problem.the only way to prevent the gas from spewing is to put the gas in extremely slowly.filling it slowly seems to prevent the pressure build up that causes the gas to spew. The spewing gas is causing the paint on my vehicle to peel.

Purchased vehicle used in november 2008 - kia sorento 2003.i noticed a gasoline smell shortly after the purchase, but didn't think it was from my vehicle.last week noticed a damp spot under my car, checked it, found gasoline leaking from my tank.took the car in to the dealership for service.they found a crack along a seam in the gas tank and replaced it.

2003 kia sorento has fuel tank that does not read gas right. It will tell you empty when it is not empty this gage has never worked right and needs to be recalled to fix this thing before some one get hurt badly.

When putting gas in the tank, the gas blew back out with a force like shaking a soda can and opening it.today was the 3rd and worst time.it started about 2 weeks ago with the fuel just spilling out, but tonight it blew back out at me with such a force as to spray gas all over the front of me up to my neck.my shirt was soaked, the gas was all over my pants and shoes.by the time i was able to drive home and shower, burns from the gas on my skin started appearing on my chest.

Since the fuel pump of my kia sorento 2003 was changed on june 2010, every time i filled up the tank with gas, it comes back, vomiting all the gas at that moment. I have to slowly fill it up and takes me about 20 minutes to fill up the tank. None of the mechanics consulted can find a solution.

Without notice this vehicle stopped accepting fuel properly. When you attempt to refuel, gasoline doesn't leak out, it sprays as if under pressure. My wife, daughter and i have each been sprayed on different occasions. Even filling very slowly causes fuel to spray from vehicle. I would be glad to video it as it occurs. It occurs every time and creates a very serious fire hazard for my family as well as other customers at the filling station. I recently had an ase certified technician evaluate the vehicle and no problem was found. This was going to be my daughters first car but i don't feel its safe for her and wouldn't want to trade it to someone and endanger them.

I purchased a 2003 kia sorento in feb 2003, vehicle spins over for quite sometime and then slowly finally turns over, i have taken it into the dealer 2 times now and they have said it was the fuel relay switch and vehicle still has the problem so i am taking it into the dealer for the 3rd time and they swear it is a fuel problem so we'll see if it's going to get fixed.

I have a 2003 kia sorento and last year it started to spray gas out at me everytime i went to fill it up. I took it in to have it checked and they couldn't find anything. My kia is still doing this and i am getting tired of getting sprayed with gas everytime i try to put gas in the thing. It needs fixed and kia should be held responsible for this. This is a hazard and somebody will eventually get hurt. Please help me with this situation.

My 2003 kia sorento, made 10/12/02, does not take gas well.when you fill it, it pressurized and blows gas back at you.this is an ongoing failure and safety issue.a mechanic says this needs a different fuel tank assembly and valve to correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that the smell of fuel was emitted inside and outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where they confirmed a fuel leak from the fueltank. The manufacturer was contacted, but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 102,500 and the current mileage was 102,700.

I have a 2003 kia sorento, boughtin january,2003. During the summer of 2009i found everytime i filled the gas tank, fuel would "blow-back" at first i could sometime remove the nozzle and re-start the fill and it would stop. I also i had to deliver the gas very slowly. Since last year i find i can never fill without "blow-back" and it seems i must listen for the rush of fuel to spit back. I usually find i am covered with fuel and the paint on the rear panel is beginning to show damage from the fuel. I have not been to the dealer as just as this problem began, the kia dealer in daytona beach closed.

This is the third time this incident happened.during this last time, the gas gauge showed that the tank have less than 1/8 full.when i started to pump gasoline to the vehicle's tank, the gas pump abruptly stopped as if the vehicle's gas tank is already full and gasoline splashed back out of the tank.gasoline sprayed all over including myself.i cautiously started to pump gas to the vehicle again and the same thing happened.i smelled like gasoline and ruined my clothes.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.while placing fuel into the vehicle, the fuel spewed back out from the gas pump.the contact stated that it would take ten minutes to place $20 worth of gas into the vehicle.he had to place small quantities of fuel into the vehicle at a time to prevent it from spewing back out.an independent mechanic replaced the fuel tank pressure relief valve at the cost of $191; however, the failure persists.the manufacturer was unable to provide any assistance .the failure mileage was 82,000 and current mileage was 85,000.updated 10/16/08updated 10/20/08.

I have a 2003 kia sorento and about 3 months ago when i went to put gas in my car the gas was spewing out on my car, the ground, and on me. And it happens every time i put gas in it now. I have to pump very slowly so it don't shoot out at me. But that takes twenty min to pump half a tank of gas. The kia dealership says their not sure what's wrong but will cost around $600.00-%$800.00 to fix it.

Whenever i attempt to put gas in my truck, the gas always comes back out.i tried to have it fixed but no one ever heard of a gas tank doing this unless it's full all ready which i know.i mean the gas would just flow out really bad.some gas stations won't even allow me to use their station in fear of a fire.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel began to spill out from the fuel filler neck. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was refueled. The fuel light also began to illuminate on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the fuel cap was replaced; yet, the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer where the fuel light was reset; however, the repair did not correct the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000. Updated 08/11/11*ljupdated 08/12/11

Gas spews out while trying to refuel, doesn't matter if it's almost empty or half full, gets all over car, ground and me. Have to dribble fuel in tank and takes 15 min. Just to put a 1\4 tank in. I don't like smelling of gas and being a walking fire hazard.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento ex. The contact stated that while refueling, the injector would leak fuel at any time.the manufacturer was not contacted.the dealer was contacted, but denied any assistance with repairs to the defect.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 109,333 and the current mileage was 109,433.

Fuel line leaking. Fixed and now leaking again someplace else.

When i attempt to fill the gas tank in my 2003 kia sorento, the gasoline blows back at me.this happens every time i add gas. If i am not careful it gets on my clothing, shoes, outside of my vehicle and on the ground.the dealership has quoted that a repair would cost between $650.00 and $850.00 to fix it although they cannot tell me for sure what the problem is.i cannot afford to have this repaired.

Dt:consumer stated there was a gas leak in vehicle.she first noticed gas coming out of the vehicle on july 5, 2005. She took the vehicle to the dealership and it was fixed, but they did not tell her why it was leaking. Dealership stated it was their fault, and it was the third one in the shop to fix.she has been smelling gas for a couple of days.

When pumping as into the tank, gas shoots out of the tank like opening a soda after shaking it up. Fuel projection is very forceful. No matter if i trickle gas in. I have been rejected from gas stations because truck spits out so much gas & i was told my vehicle is a fire hazard. Kia performed two recalls sc092 & sc073. The problem still persists. Kia customer care nor the mechanics at bay kia in norfolk, va have been very unhelpful and instead of investigating the problem, say that it is user error!

2003 kia sorento gas tank does not register correctly.after about 3/4 full, it drops to read "empty".this started happening after the car was only a year old.i was told it would be very expensive to fix it and to just try to gauge when the car was getting close to empty.i travel quite a bit for my job and have been stranded about 4-5 times at night with an empty gas tank....not the safest of situations.

When fueling the vehicle fuel has been spraying back out of the fuel filler neck if the fuel is pumped at a normal rate.this has occurred since well before the 1st incident date.the only way to keep the fuel from spraying out is to pump the fuel very slowly and stop.fuel would spray all over me, my wife and the vehicle.while traveling on the interstate and the fuel gauge registers 3/4 full and when the vehicle is going uphill the vehicle rpm's will drop, the throttle becomes unresponsive and the vehicle losses speed.the vehicle will recover after reaching level ground.the vehicle was taken to kia and no problems were found.again while traveling for the holidays on 11/24/10 and 11/28/10 this incident occurred again when the fuel gauge registered 3/4 full and in heavy traffic on i-65 almost causing vehicles to run over me due to my speed dropping abruptly.ireached the nearest fuel station and filled the tank up.this does not happen when the vehicle is above 3/4 full.this does not happen while driving around town.the problem with fueling the vehicle is all the time.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated when attempting to fill the fuel tank, there was a restriction that only allowed the fuel to enter the filler neck slowly. The fuel would also come back out (fuel expulsion). The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 70,000. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

Vehicle takes a long time to start.sometimes as long as ten seconds.the engine cranks and cranks and then finally turns over.have been told it may be the fuel pressure riser switch.has not been fixed yet. *nlm

Consumer purchased vehicle on 11/25/02.vehicle turns over, but will not start.car has been in for service 3 times.problem is the fuel injection pump, but dealer can not repair. Ts

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.upon entering the vehicle the driver could smell an odor of gasoline.upon examination gasoline could be seen leaking from underneath the vehicle on the rear passenger side.the manufacturer was notified and she was informed that the vehicle had previously been repaired for the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v353000, fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings.the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was repaired.the failure and current mileages were 104,000.

1) upon purchase, exhaust smell was strong inside suv, leading to headaches and queasiness.2) took it in within weeks (?)3) a correction was made, part replaced. Since then, the exhaust smell is intermittent, and not as strong.service does not see further issue.

2003 kia sorento. Consumer writes in regards to gasoline tank defect. Consumer requests reimbursement *tgwthe consumer stated she received a voluntary service campaign letter from kia motors regarding the replacement of the fuel tank ai filter. The consumer stated she experienced the failure in september 2011. However, when she contacted kia regarding reimbursement, she was informed there was no recall of that nature.kia informed the consumer she would not be reimbursement for the defect. The consumer stated her vehicle was not operable, due to the fact, she could not get more than one gallon of gasoline into the tank without it spraying back out of the tank. The mechanic found the charcoal canister falling apart and blocking the air flow in close valve, vent filter and roll over valve. The fuel pump assembly was removed and the charcoal cleaned out of the fuel tank and roll over valve.

2003 kia sorento. Gas tank will not fill and when attempting to fill the car will spew gas onto the consumer and all over the car and surrounding area creating a potential fire hazard. According to kia i have to replace the entire gas tank assembly because it's defective. For now i have to pump the gas in extremely slowly and it takes approximately 12 times longer than normal.

I have a 2003 kia sorento that failed the emissions test. When going onto the website for recalls it comes up that their was a recall in november 2005. I never got notified and when calling kia they are telling me it is not my car as my car was built in a different month, and i am telling them that the recall is coming up for the same safety/emissions and they will not listen to me. If there is a recall on my car for the year listed and the recall is the emissions that is making my car failwhat can i do.

2003 kia sorento.gas tank will not fill and when attempting to fill the car will spew gas onto the consumer and all over the car and surrounding area creating a potential fire hazard. According to kia i have to replace the entire gas tank assembly because it's defective.for now i have to pump the gas in extremely slowly and it takes approximately 12 times longer than normal.

I was filling my gas tank up, and after about 2 gallons it spit back out at me going everywhere. I have taken it to many mechanics and they say they cannot find the problem, so basically i have had to continue dealing with this issue for 7 months or so. I have grown tired of it and decided to search the internet and found that many other people have been dealing with this issue also. I find that the gas spilling out everywhere is a safety hazard in many ways, but no one can seem to help me out. What should i do?

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle decelerated and stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart. In addition, when the contact inserted fuel in the vehicle, fuel spewed out the fuel tank. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.

Each time we go to put fuel into the gas tank it flies back out. Sometimes as much as a foot or more out of the gas tank opening. This has gone on for more than a few months now. I understand that this has been an ongoing problems with kia sorentos around this year model with around the same amount of miles as ours.

When fueling, after about 45 seconds, gas sprays back up and out all over me and the car and the ground.if the fuel pump handle is barely depressed, which pumps the gas very very slowly, fuel will be accepted. Takes forever - tired of gas-soaked clothes and gas-soaked shoes; tired of spilling gas all over the car and wasting on the concrete; - tired of dangerous situation!!need kia to issue a recall on whatever is causing the fuel rejection.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While stationary, the vehicle spewed fuel onto the ground when fuel was being added. This issue recurred regardless of the amount of fuel being added to the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 185,000.

My first kia was sportage 2000 with 165000 miles when i sold that vehicle, i have no complaints this was my reason to buy kia again, i buy a sorento 2003 no complaints only the 2 recalls from kia is the only thing i have in this vehicle. But since the last year after 75000 miles i have this real problem for me with the gas spills, my situation today is not the same like its was five years ago....and spend above $500 fixing this problem who attribute at failure of design from kia motors is beyond my budget. I have not idea how to fix this from kia who i make them solely responsible of this defect. Somebody can tell me how i have to proceed to make accountable kia in this matter??

When pumping gas there is a sudden spewing of gasoline out of the tank and all over me. I managed several times to get a few gallons in by pumping slowly but the next day the gas gage reads empty and has actually run out of gas several times! so not only am i having a problem putting gas in, it is immediately draining or leaking out!

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact experienced difficulty placing fuel in the vehicle. The fuel would not enter the tank and leaked out while the contact attempted to insert fuel. An independent mechanic stated that the vehicle needed a new canister filter, fuel cap, and filler pipe. The vehicle had not been repaired and the manufacturer had not been notified. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 10/8/14 the consumer stated the manufacturer was contacted. The manufacturer stated the vehicle was out of warranty. The consumer was not notified of any recalls due to being the second owner. The vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense.updated 3/24/2015

The 2003 kia sorento has a problem with extensive frame rusting, to the point where some owners have had the suspension detach from the frame. One owner in particular has had issues with the gas tank needing to be replaced, and kia motors refuses to do anything about the problem. They built the car, sold it to people, and when consumers have complaints about their vehicle, they (kia) says that they're not responsible. You need to examine this, because people could get killed by operating an unsafe vehicle. Do something about this now, before it becomes the next pinto. Make kia fix the [xxx] vehicles now!!!parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and with the fuel tank gauge at 3/4 or below, the vehicle began to sputter and vibrate before stalling. The contact indicated that the fuel tank needed to be at least 75 percent full to prevent the failure from occurring. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.the failure mileage was 209,000.

I had owned the vehicle for a year when all of a sudden one day i was filling up with gas, had pumped less than a gallon when all of a sudden, the gas came shooting back out of the tank all over me, the car, the ground, everywhere.i tried more gas as i was almost on empty, & it happened over & over.finally, i had to pull the nozzle most of the way out of the tank, & pump as slowly as possible.i learned that if i listened carefully, i could hear the gas approaching the top of the neck & if i was quick enough, could keep the "blow back" down to a trickle & only have it on the vehicle & the ground & not on me.my son refuses to drive it if it needs to be gassed up.it makes me very nervous to pump gas like this.what if there is a random spark?i noticed in 2005 (long before i purchased) there was some sort offuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings recall from http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2003/kia/sorento/recalls/does that recall cover this issue?i read a lot of complaints from many people having this very same issue.

I attempted to fill my 2003 kia soento ex and after pumpming about $2.75 worth of gas, the fuel began to spit back up through the filler hose and spurted/ gush back out on to me. It gives you a false sense that the tank is full but it's not. I attempted to re-fuel and again, the gas spurt/ gush back out. I could get no more than $5.00 dollars in the car. I spoke with the kia dealership in lithonia, georgia and they told me that they have never heard of such a matter. I was instructed to bring the vehicle back. However, i began to research this matter and it was investigated by you all. Kia did state that they would look into the matter. I'm not confident that will happen. There are thousands of complaints out there among consumers about this same vehicle between the 2003 through 2006. Please investigate! i do believe that this is a recall item. The 2003 kia sorento was the first vehicle made by kia corporation.

We were attempting to fill the sorento up with gas when it suddenly spit gas out of the tank when we had only put $11 into to. It was close to empty when we got to the gas station.we tried a couple times with the same result.the car would not take anymore gas.

When i pump gas into my car, the fuel spits backout at me. I have to pump real slow for this not to happen. This is dangerous, gas gets on my hands and car,i have to carry soap and water to wash this off of my car. I called about this and was told because my car vin # was not on the their list there was nothing they could do for me

I have fuel still spitting out of the fuel tank, even after the supposed tank air filter replacement by bill dodge kia, saco, me. I can only trickle fuel in the vehicle without it spitting back out on me and the ground. I have already had a bad rash due to fuel spilling on me with shorts on last summer. The vehicle is not repaired as stated. I refuse to start trying to just throw money at it and not knowing if it will fix the problem or not. I seen a lot of other complaints even after the tank air filter replacement, the evap system should not be located under the vehicle to begin with, due to moisture getting into the air filter then the charcoal canister and everything else. I have also replaced the closed valve which is located before the tank air filter to no avail this vehicle is a health and fire hazard period !

My fuel pump was replaced in august 2013; not long after i began having fueling problems that have increased in severity.any time i try to put gas in my tank, it explodes back out at me like a volcano erupting.i can't put gas in my car unless i let it trickle in and stop fueling in intervals...it takes about 30 minutes at least to fill my car.i'm tired of smelling like gas.this is dangerous and ridiculous and apparently a lot of other people have had this problem, yet kia has done nothing.something needs to be done by kia to correct this issue.i took my vehicle to a kia dealership and they weren't really sure what to do (lots of help there) and wanted to charge me about $2000 to try and figure it out (the same amount they charged me to replace my fuel pump).i'm tired of being ripped off....can't anyone do anything to help all of us consumers having this issue??

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate independently. The contact stopped the vehicle and replaced the fuel injector fluid but the failure continued intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics. The mechanic advised that the fuel injectors needed cleaning. After the fuel injectors were cleaned, the failure continued. The vehicle was previously included and repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v353000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). After the recall repair, the contact experienced a fuel spill when refueling the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired the approximate failure mileage was 33,387.

My 2003 kia sorento drives for 15 minutes and stalls out. I wait 5 min and it'll start and drive for a block or 2and continues to that until i get it towed home

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While refueling, fuel spewed back out of the filler neck without warning. The contact mentioned that fuel splashed all over the floor and his clothes. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 102,000.

Fuel spewed back when filling at station.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. When refueling the vehicle, fuel ejected out of the refueling hole. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,300.

After purchasing car from private seller i discovered that when trying to pump gas, my fuel sprays back out all over myself, my vehicle, and the ground. Have even had it spray into my eyes. Did research and saw that this is a very common occurrence for this year/make/model. I believe its a fire and safety hazard and should have been recalled years ago!

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that the fuel was not going into the fuel tank properly upon refueling the vehicle and there was a clicking noise as if it were full. The contact had to take an extended period of time to ensure the fuel tank was actually full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they did not diagnose the failure. The vehicle was to be taken to an independent mechanic to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v353000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

While pumping, the fuel spits back out from the tank. It is rather annoying as i lose money fueling and it takes forever to fuel. Normally when i reach about $15.00 in gas it begins regurgitating. This happens every time i attempt to fuel.

We have a 2003 kia sorento, and since november while pumping gas, fuel suddenly spews out -- like a soda can that had been shaken.online we can find other 2003 kia sorentos also complaining about what's known as fuel spit-back. .the national highway traffic safety administration investigated over 100 complaints of spit-back on 2003 kia sorentos.complaints allege that while refueling the vehicle, fuel can spill out or spit back from the fuel filler port on model year (my) 2003 kia sorento vehicles. Consumers report that the spilled fuel can splash on the person fueling the vehicle, or on the side of the vehicle and the ground. Just like ours.then in january 2012, kia's testing found that if the canister filter becomes significantly clogged, excess pressure can build up in the fuel tank and cause fuel to spit back from the filler port during refueling.to address the issue of fuel spit back during refueling, kia conducted a service campaign of approximately 86,000 my 2003 and 2004 kia sorento vehicles. The campaign will provide a one-time replacement of the canister filter, at no cost to the owner -- this was done on our car on march 6, 2012. Before this service, there was no problem with fuel spit-back, now it happens every time we fuel up.the dealer wants to charge us to fix it, the company is of no helpyour agency closed its investigation, but it seems you must reopen it.again, we did not have the fuel spit-back problem until after the service!!!!!!!!!!!

While fueling up the sorento, the fuel spit out every time even while fueling at slow speeds.very frustrating , and dangerous, especially when the fuel gets on my skin & clothes, the vehicle, and at times leaves a huge puddle on the ground which could be a fire hazard.the dealership was contacted and will not help me even though there was a recall issued for the fuel filter, which i mentioned.

Fule is shooting back of gas tank while putting in gas.this is very dangerous. Pleas tell me a fix for this. Car is stationary.

When fueling the vehicle the gas pump automatically shuts off constantly. The tank can be empty and the pump will shut off as soon as you start filling it and continue to do so as you fill it. It will also spit gas out of the tank while you are filling it. There should be plenty of room for gas as the gas indicator shows empty but even after putting one gallon in the tank, the pump will shut off and/or gas will spill/splash out. I have to stand back when filling the tank so that i don't get it all over me. The date listed for incident is when it first started happening but it continues to do so every time i put gas in the vehicle.

When i try to fill gasoline in my car, the pump will click off after filling about 1/2 gallon and will then spray gasoline back at me for the first 3-4 times it clicks off.i noticed a recall was done on this model for the fuel tank evaporator filter which is the issue.i had the recall performed but still have the issue.

I bought my kia sorento 2003 in november 2013.in january of the following year i noticed a gas smell. I looked under the vehicle and found a few drips on the ground underneath, which was gas.i had the line under the cab along side door replaced.i am noticing a strong gas smell coming from the side toward front and can't see anything leaking. I saw that there was a recall for this year and make so i called kia and asked them is my vehicle covered under the recall and they said no after giving them my vin number. I see that its not just the 2003 vehicles with this issue. Just because i don't have the right vin number they should still honor my complaint. Regardless i'm still having the same fuel issues as the ones on recall.

Every time i have to fill the gas tank on my kia sorento 2003 it shoots back the gasoline like a proyectile.it takes an eternity to fill the gas tank if you don't want to have gas all over you.i have even being kicked out of some service stations because spiling so much gas is a hazard. Is there any safety recall for this problem?i have not heard a word from kia.

Both rear interior door panels and liftgate are rusting out on vehicle that is 1.5 years old (and garage kept). Kia states they have a "5-year/50k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty" for poor craftsmanship & faulty materials. Apparently, a brand new vehicle rusting out doesn't meet kia's definition as covered under warranty and will not fix it. Kia's warranty is overstated. No vehicle (even one's built into 1950's rust out with in a year. Poor materials....lousy warranty.

I brought the kia sorento used in2/2011 with 108,00 miles and replaced all belts, transmission change, front brakes, driveshaft assembly, radiator. Now has 127,000 miles and every month i have been replacing parts.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving at an unknown speed, the gear shifted independently into four wheel drive. The contact was unable to get it back into drive. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure . The approximate failure mileage was 237,361. The vin was not provided.

Vehicle broke down in traffic. Froze up,stalled. Loss of steering. Had it towed to shop & was told the crank shaft sensor & related parts to the crank shaft had to be replaced. Cost for towing & repairs were over $700.

My 2003 kia sorento drives for 15 minutes and stalls out. I wait 5 min and it'll start and drive for a block or 2and continues to that until i get it towed home

Crankshaft bolt recalled 2007 they break off recall done crankshaft bolt broke on 2011crankshaft broke kia will not fix recalled part.

1. Engine started knocking ( mileage 68,000 )2. Engine shut down and would not restart3. A mechanic checked and found the harmonic balancer was loose on the crankshaft. In the attempt to remove the harmonic balancer, the mounting bolt broke off flush with the crank shaft and appears to have been cross threaded from the factory.the harmonic balancer was not pulled all the way up causing the failure. Due to the hardness of the mounting bolt and the crank shaft, removal of the broken bolt is impossible.the engine will need an overhaul to repair the problem and of course the warranty has just expired. ( please advise ).

Comments:i would like to inform you of what i think is a potential safety hazard.several weeks ago my wife and i were returning from a vacation in ourcar and it caught fire. Luckily there were no injuries or serious damage.at the end of this letter will be all the particulars. We were comingfrom santa cruz on highway 1, in california and at what is called the summit, of i started seeing smoke in back of our vehicle. We stopped, turned off the car ,opened thehood and there was a small fire down on the driver side near the exhaustmanifold. I closed the hood and tried to locate a fire extinguisher. The fire extinguished itself and we had the car towed to the dealership.after a day of testing the only thing they found was that thetransmission was slightly overfilled, which was my error.while i realize that cancause the problem here is my concern.the technician who worked on my car said that transmissions are designedto blow out or through overflow the transmission filler tube. He alsoshowed me that on top of the dipstick was slot which would allow thefluid to escape. However it is located right over the exhaust manifold.it would seem that it should be located where the fluid would not comein contact with such hot engine parts. I am not sure if this affects othervehicles but it does concern me.my vehicle is2004 kia sorento6 cyc, automaticwe were not towing anything nor where we loaded down.i thank you for you time.steve elijah225 merrill avefremont, ca [email protected].

While driving at highway speed consumer smelled a burning odor. Then, smoke camefrom the rear of the vehicle. As a result, transmission failed and flamesemanated from the under carriage.

My car had a horrible noise & i was told that it was the drive shaft. I got a friend to drive it to a kia kendall and they were to warranty the part that was defective. In the process of driving car to dealer it came apart hit the bottom of car deployed air bags, cracked windshield, gas tank also cracked. This was a defective dealer part and was supposed to be warrantied. Now it has been reported to insurance and in the process of fixing this item they broke a plastic hose from the radiator and then clamped it & put a screw in my radiator. They know that this was going to cause a problem & did not even care.

Vehicle model: kia sorento ex; the transmission keeps failing and the airbag module keeps breaking and displaying red light even after fixing at a dealer shop "bill dodge kia , westbrook, me. The symptoms are as follows: you put the car in drive and the vehicle does not move and only a grinding sound occurs, then you move the transmission shift up and down and after a few moments it generally goes into gear.we almost had several accidents and the car is back in the shop. This car is a nightmare car -- please do notify manufacturer.

I have a 2003 kia sorento that i purchased in september of 2003.i bought the sorento with 5000 miles on it and from the time i got it home, it developed problems.everytime i start my sorento and put it in drive or reverse and back-up or drive forward, i hear this awful hum noise from the front of the car that the dealership says is normal that it's the abs resetting itself and that it's sometimes noisier in some sorento's than in other's (no other sorento owner that i know has this noise)i felt a vibration when i was driving on the highway and it would happen between 68 and 72 mph.it would not vibrate if i was driving above or below this speed.so i called the dealership and they told me to rotate and balance my tires and i told them that i already did that.well come to find out after i had to put it into the shop, they replaced the whole drive shaft, it was bent (manufacturer defect they said.)second, my console broke and the lights went out inside my car, still waiting on that to be fixed, have had to replace the headlight lights twice thus far.rear windshield wiper keeps getting stuck even after having the dealership adjust it.

I drive a 2003 kia/sorento/4d. On or about dec 15 2006 i notice a loud noise an server vibration coming under vehicle. I took suv to family mechanic. He could not find problem and recommended that i take vehicle to kia dealer. On dec 27 2006 kia dealer tech initial diag reads 4x4 is staying engaged all the time. Suspected switch failure. Therefore front diff staying engaged all the time. This has caused internal damage to front diff and front propeller shaft. Estimate cost to repair/2,775.00i am at a lost cause vehicle is nolonger under warranty, but i feel because 4x4 release/engage switch failure that i should not have to endure thefinancialburden. Repairing this manufactures defect.

Vehicle driveshaft installed 180 degrees out (upside down) causing severe vibration.driveshaft turned 180 degrees.still has vibration. Dealer not sure of cause.dt

2003 kia sorrento-there has been no crash==the drive line from the rear makes a noisy thump almost every time i step onthe brakes and release them--kia service in middletown, ny service manager and kia zone rep state that is normal operation of vehicle--i disagreeand informed them i will be taking vehicle to another mechanic,i have been driving for 34 years and never encountered this situation in a vehicle.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.while driving 15-20 mph, another vehicle crashed into the driver side door of the contacts vehicle.the passenger side front seat belt disengaged, which caused the passenger to sustain bruises to the chest.the dealer has not inspected the vehicle and the insurance company has not yet determined if the vehicle was destroyed.a police report was filed.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 86,000.*updated 12/12/07 missouri accident report.updated 12/12/07

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle made an abnormal noise when the battery and another unknown warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact had to pump the brake pedal several times before the vehicle would stop and the power steering stop working. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the crank shaft pulley bolt was holding too much weight causing it to fracture. The vehicle had been repaired but the failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. The contact stated that while exiting a parking lot at 10 mph, the brakes were depressed and felt spongy. The vehicle failed to respond and the contact had to utilize the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised the contact that the brake lines were rusted and fractured, causing the loss of brake pressure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000.

While the car was in for an oil change the tech noticed a couple of brake lines looked wet, when they where checking the lines they noticed the rear sub-frame which the lines were connected too was totally rusted out.the car is no longer drivable due to the fact that this sub-frame holds the rear differential in place.

Power brake system failed when attempting to brake while going 15 mph.took vehicle to service center.they reported that the brake lines had rusted through causing total loss of brake fluid and brake system functionality. Once the brake line was perforated it completely rendered all but the emergency brake inoperable.luckily i was able to stop using the emergency brake because of the low rate of speed.had this occurred at a higher rate of speed (e.g. 65 mph) it could have been disastrous.all brake lines had to be replaced at a cost of $670.i've owned many vehicles in my lifetime with similar age and mileage, but have never had brake lines rust through.i live in a northern climate (ny state), but this should not happen.friends of ours bought their 2003 kia sorento one week after we did.their vehicle suffered the exact same brake line rust through as we did las year, with only 40,000 miles on the vehicle, so i'm interested in knowing what percentage of same make/model vehicle has experienced the same failure.

Driving car down road when brakes went soft pulling into my driveway was able to stop before brakes went out fully. My son was practicing for his road test. Car also has control issue does not feel very stable. Feels like it want to tip over. Noise in front end dealer said you will get used to it. When it gets bad enough they may be able to find it. Biggest piece of junk i have ever owned. Would never buy another kia.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While exiting the driveway with the brakes engaged, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that there was excessive corrosion that fractured the subframe and damaged the brake lines. As a result, the brake lines needed to be replaced and the center section of the frame needed to be cut and replaced.the subframe was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 31,000.

Purchased2003 sorento only to find the brakes and rotors need replaced every 8,000 miles a costly figure to go along.the car was taken to merchants due to the braking system they indicated nothing was found and all was good only to leave the station paying the price for tire balance/front end job/brake bleeding/and turning of rotors lets not forget they replaced front brakes for $1,000.just to leave and have the problem still the jerking, shaking when applying brakes when speeds 30 miles per hr when applying brakes the car felt as if it were to fall apart.i called the facility back and they wouldn't warrant the service.i then called kia of westminster md where i was told to bring the car back and they would review the problem and give me a call, again the back brakes this time and the rotors were pulled and replaced to get a bill of $400 and above. Was only out of the shop for less then 5,000 miles and it started all over again.i called the dealership to report this and they brought the car back in just to do the back all over again, but i was warned that if it goes again i would have to have this replaced both front/back and they would have to charge me.well guess what ????? we haven't even put 8,000 miles on the car and it's going on a spell again.i haven't decided what i'm going to do as of yet - i do need a 4x4 due to the winter and getting back and forth to work.luckily my father has offered to do the work for me just buy the parts maybe it will last longer this time.i have to buy my son a car we know which not to buy- i've read hundreds of complaints on the kia which ever model and it seems they all have the same problems and the biggest is that the manufacturer hasn't noted any for recall - wouldn't you think brake loss of unable to control the car when braking would throw up red flags ------i guess they don't care who they hurt.i have told everyone i know that this isn't a good product to buy.luckily i've stopped many from making a mistake.

Front brake rotors and pads had to be replaced by dealer after only 20,000 miles.dealer said that this is a common problem for the sorento.*la

When depressing the brakes at low speeds vehicle vibrated.consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicdetermined that the front brake rotors needed to be replaced. The consumer stated that the front brake rotors had been replaced on six separate occasions, andproblemrecurred.

Brake rotors are warping every few thousand miles. Within 16,000 miles of use, rotors have been resurfaced twice, and are in need of it once again. Although this condition is covered under warranty, kia refused to honor it.

Front brake rotors and pads had to be replaced by dealer after only 20,000 miles.dealer said that this is a common problem for the sorento.*la

Rotors warp and cause a vibration during braking.front rotors had to be resurfaced at 18,000 miles.at 41,000 miles, front rotors had to be replaced and rear rotors turned.i am taking it in again at 51,000 because vibration has returned.

2003 sorento ex purchased new. Replaced the left front rotor about 3 months ago, but breaking has returned to signs of a warped rotor again. Vibration in the steering wheel when brakes are applied and loud noise in front wheel area (non-metal) sound. Car has new brake pads and recent alignment. Rotors are not lasting.

At 12000 miles i have had to have the front brake rotors on my 2003 kia sorento machined twice due to warping and resultant brake pulsing/vibration.due to required rotor thickness, the next episode will necessitate rotor replacement.the need to do this at such low mileage indicates a severe deficiency, probably relating to faulty design or a metallurgical problem with the rotors.the sorento is a new model and i suspect that as miles are accumulated this problem will become more evident fleet-wide.i am submitting this complaint due to the critical nature of the brake system and the high potential for disaster resulting from any kind of brake malfunction.there is anecdotal evidence that i am not the only sorento owner encountering this difficulty.*la

We had a vibration in the front end of the car when we stopped. We took it to the local kia dealer. We were told that the rotors were warped. We bought the car new, it only had 33,000 miles on it. Was told that the rotors warranty was 5yr/50000 miles, but only on defects.since most rotors wear out at 65k or 70k miles i said it was a defect. Dealer refused repair under warranty. Called kia national office, was told they can't make dealer do repairs, its up to the dealer to decide if warranty or not!kia does not back up the warranty's and will not support consumers.

Rotors warping at 16000 miles causing high shudder at stopping. Repair by dealer at a cost and it is happening again at 27000 miles have talked to other sorento owners and some have experienced same problem.

I purchased my 2003 kia sorento with 17,000 miles on it. I am the second owner. Since i have had this car, i have had to replace and/or resurface my rotors and brake pads at least 6 times in two years. I have talked to two kia dealerships (one in clarksville, tn - the other in memphis, tn) and both lied to me and said they didn't see that type of problem ever. I have taken my car to two other mechanics that i trust and they have turned my rotors, replaced my rotors with genuine kia parts and nothing seems to help. Just this week, i had to take my car in again. At that time, my mechanic talked to our local kia dealership, who then told him that they now see this problem frequently. I am tired of spending my own money on this problem that is obviously a kia defect. Kia knows this is a problem and something needs to be done. I will never buy a kia again. I only wish i had researched this problem before i bought my car. Then i would have found out that there was a class action lawsuit against kia at one time over their sephia having the same exact problems. My husband has a 1995 ford ranger and we've never had to do any brake repair.

Takata recall the crankshaft pulley bolt keeps coming lose and this causes the steering wheel to become stiff. This happened in the middle of traffic and had to get it towed to a friends house.currently the car is not driveable for over two weeks.

My 2003 kia sorento start vibrating as i was pulling into my driveway and before i can park it i heard a load noise and my steering wheel became very heavy to steer and almost loose control.i had a mechanic look into the issue and found thepulley bolt (harmonic balancer) broke in half.i had also check if this is an unusual problem - came to find out that this could potential design defect from kia.as there are thousand of them that has similar problem complained on the internet.i had called kia dealer ship and they are not helping on this design flaw issue.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.the contact was driving 5 mph and attempting a turn when the steering wheel failed and would not respond to the direction it was turned.the steering wheel would only spin in a circle during the failure. The vehicle was placed in reverse and allowed to drift into the preferred parking space. The vehicle was diagnosed by a private mechanic who advised that the u joint was loose on the steering shaft. The manufacturer was contacted, but the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or repaired. The failure and current mileages were 93,000.

I was driving at 60 mph and my power steering was getting hard almost cause an accident in the expressway, i check power steering fuel and is fine, belt to power steering fine too, i just wonder if there is a recall parts in this problem, im very afraid to drive my kia again, please investigate.

While driving i heard a clunk and a the car began rolling side to side. I limped to a mechanic and was told that the frame where the suspension and all parts connect was rusted out. Frame repair said this can not be fixed as the frame is rusted out. Where the stabilizer and suspension connects. Teh car only has 149,ooo miles and is in north carolina. I have read other reports of a rusted out support frame on this site.will the manufacturer replace this frame.

While driving at a safe speed (35mph) with my children in the car my power steering failed and all my dash lights came on. I was able to pull over this time out of harms way. Once i got the car to the side of the i had noticed that one of my belts came off. I got it towed to the mechanic first thing the next morning and told me a bolt came off the pulley and the pulley was off. They fixed the car and i was good up until it happened 4 more times. Luckily i was the only in the car at the time it happened the last time due to the fact i was on a highway and going 70mph. Once again i managed to get to the side of the road to safety. With this happening numerous times no one wants to fix the car anymore and i don't understand why a recall has yet to be made on something so simple. Also in my state my car is not protected under the lemon law.

I purchased the sorento 5/31/03, while making a right hand turn the power steering completely went out; i almost hit another vehicle regaining control. Contacted kia consumer affairs immediately, they have complete logs on file. 6/2/03 dealer replaced power steering rack. 6/10/03 830 miles, power steering failed again;had to fight with the steering to control vehile in parking garage.6/12/03 power steering pump was replaced. Picked up vehicle that evening and pulling out from the restaurant the power steering went out again. 6/13/03 850 miles, computer malfunction; new downloads had to be downloaded to vehicles computer. 6/18/03 electronic power steering module had to be replaced. Now 6/20/03 dealer said they wont help me, kia consumer affairs said they wont replace the vehicle nor buy back the vehicle. I'm terrified to pick up the vehicle tonight. Kia wanted me to drive the vehicle 30 days more then call back and they will re-imburse me 2 months payments for all the trouble. I replied i wont drive it, i'll have it flat bedded to my house and seek legal council.

I had just purchased my 2003 kia sorento on february 23 2013 from a local used car dealer. The car had 85,000 miles at time of purchase. It was driving fine until march 31, 2013. As i was pulling out of my drive way the car started making a loud noise and then i lost control of the steering almost going into my neighbors ditch. The car was taken to the mechanic(towed) where he found that the bolt going into the crank shaft had been sheared offcausing the belt to come off. The problem is that even after he fixes it (1800.00 +) he said it would happen again.this is a very dangerous problem. After reading countless accounts online of other kia sorento owners with the same problem, i feel kia needs to recall this part.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento. While driving at 55 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to turn the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the harmonica balance in the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. In addition, the contact noticed that there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the harmonica balance needed to be replaced and the rear axle corroded and needed to be welded. The vehicle was repaired; however, while at an independent mechanic for routine service, the mechanic stated that the subframe was corroded. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.

2003 kia sorento would loose power steering assistance when transitioning from moderate speeds (30-50 mph) to low speed (5-10 mph), such as when exiting a highway by slowing in a center turning lane and turning left in front of oncoming traffic.first occurance was at 19,000 miles (sept 2003), kia dealer was unable to replicate problem and returned the vehicle to me.problem continued intermittently until 30,000 miles (may 2004) when i returned to dealer and they discovered a tsb on this issue.dealer replaced p/s sensor and loaded improved software code. There were a number of near collisions due to this failure.

Ongoing problems with power steering.feels like engine is stalling and power steering is locking up when making turns at low speed.very difficult to steer. This happens intermittently.

2003 kia sorento with history of power steering failures which resulted in no power steering assistance while turning at low speeds.problem fixed may 2004 (after thee visits to dealer) although tsb identifying corrective action was issued a year earlier.steering rack found to be seeping fluid during annual inspection at 63,760 mi.taken to dealer at 70,000 miles for evaluation.dealer advised that seals not serviceable, steering rack and hoses require replacement at cost of $2000 - not covered under warranty.kia customer service advised that steering rack covered under warranty until 60,000 mi; not part of 100,000 mi powertrain warranty.i have begun a search for a new vehicle, and kia products aren't eligible for consideration.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sorento.the contact stated that while driving the steering wheel lockedand could not turn left or right.the mechanic stated that a bolt and balancer detached from the hinges.the contact suggested that the power steering may have been low in fluid.the current and failure mileage were 79,000.

Purchased 2003 kia sorento 4x4 on 5/26/03.on 5/31/03 (odometer 600 miles)while driving and making a right hand turn the power steering failed, almost struck another vehicle, tried to regain control of vehicle and pulled to side of road. A friend was in the vehicle with me and can attest to the power steering failure because he tried to steer the vehicle also.6/2/03dealership replaced power steering rack, gear and assembly. On 6/10/03 (odometer 830) power steering failed again while i was exiting down in a parking garage; had to fight with the steering wheel to gain control. On 6/12/03 (odometer 850) power steering pump was replaced and later that evening while pulling out of a parking stall from the restaurant the power steering went out again. Dealership said a team of 3 kia service techs now found out there was a program error on the vehicles computer; they came to the conclusion they(kia or the dealership) didn't have a clue. Monday 6/16/03 engineer team from kia was to evaluate the vehicle. They could not figure the problem out. Afternoon of 6/16/03 dealership said kia's field inspector will be out wednesday 6/18/03 to evaluate the vehicle further. I could have killed someone or myself driving this vehicle while the power steering repeated failed. Now i'm deathly terrified driving the vehicle, i'm in a rental car until wednesday 6/18/03 while the kia field inspector evaluates the vehicle. In my opinion kia needs to recall this vehicle and give my money back. I don't need to risk my life in order to make the company look good. Kia consumer affairs were kept in the loop from day one but no one cares how serious this is, please help. *nlm

Was having my tires changed when mechanic noticed a significant amount of rot on the frame on the right side rear where the arm connects to the frame.high potential for the arm to pull out of frame which could cause a loss of control of the vehicle.car started rusting around fenders and rockers 4 years ago.this frame rot is a structural integrity issue.contacted kia and said that due to mileage and year that it was not their issue regardless of the 3 previous claims i found on the nhtsa site and the fact that it is a manufactures defect.

Approx. A week prior heard a noise like something was loose and beating underneath the car only at times. Took it to local garage and put it on rack and the mechanic had me to come look for myself. My heart dropped. The frame is shot. It's eat up. He asked me if there was a recall on this car? and as far as i know there isn't, but for sure, should be. This is very dangerous. One big bump and the whole thing is gone. You can touch it and the metal flakes off. This car runs so good and still is a good looking car. Has always been in a garage never left out in the weather. The mechanic told me they don't make cars like they used too. My answer was maybe so, but this is what gets people killed, i am a person that when something i know is not right or hear a noise i know that shouldn't be that way!! i get it checked out. Now some people don't that's why there's so many people killed on the roads due to defects on cars they paid thousands of dollars for. I need help!! what do i do now?i'm afraid to drive it to mailbox and back.

Takata recall...rear suspension always rots out. The sub frame is bad.

Rust spots appear on the rear liftgate within the warranty period for paint. Both auto manufacturer and dealership did not follow up. Then the warranty coverage is over and the problem is getting worst.

While the car was in for an oil change the tech noticed a couple of brake lines looked wet, when they where checking the lines they noticed the rear sub-frame which the lines were connected too was totally rusted out.the car is no longer drivable due to the fact that this sub-frame holds the rear differential in place.

2003 kay sorento ex:vehicle vibrates excessively only between approx. 68 -78 mph.rear-view mirror (and image) shakes.difficult to see cars in rear-view mirror clearly.vibration can be heard and felt.

I was driving down the road at 35 miles per hour and the car began to swerve to the side of the road.the support towers on the top of the rear axle that hold the links that keep the rear axle from falling out of the car have completely rusted.without these links the rear axle can twist and cause the vehicle to lose control.without these links the entire rear axle could break away from the car and could become a 200 lb. Projectile causing death to any persons in its path.the rear axle moves in the car right now a making it difficult to drive straight down the street.

The wiper motor strips out easily. Took it in to have it fixed and it still slams down into the car.i went back in and it still doesn't work.now it completely quit.
