I bought my very first new vehicle in sept 2005, and had my first auto accident less than six weeks later.i was on my way to work on friday, oct 28, 2005.i came upon a vehicle stopped in my lane.i put the brakes on, and left a small skid mark.i had plenty of room to stop my vehicle, but was unable to.once i pressed the brakes, i realized i wasn't slowing down and pressed harder on them.there was some jerking and it felt like i was hopping up the road.my vehicle never slowed down at all.needless to say, i crashed into the rear end of the stopped car.it caused major damage to my front end, and damage to the back of the other vehicle.also, my airbag did not deploy.my vehicle is currently at the body shop waiting to be looked at, but they are estimating the cost at $8,000 or more in damage.i really feel angry about this because i am a cautious driver, and i feel this accident was not my fault.i feel the brakes on my van did not function properly.

I was driving down the road when the clear road turned into black ice going around a corner, i then got pulled into snow and then side swiped a telephone pole that sent me into a boulder bigger than my car. The impact was at 30mph and the air bags were supposed to deploy between 7 and 10mph.my head when into the windshield 2 times and bounced off the steering wheel. My wife slammed her head off the dash and my daughter had a seatbelt bruise. The air bags never deployed and kia has a so called fix for the airbags but its still not out or recalled yet. When the ambulance showed up they hit the black ice and almost slid into us. About 20 to 30 mins after the ambulance showed up the town had a salt and sand truck come out and fix the corner. On the way to the hospital the emt told me i was the 5th or 6th person to crash in the same spot this year. And the year had just begun. But more importantly the engine was pushed back 2 to 3 inches and i have pics and video of the damage. The airbags could have saved us a lot of pain and suffering and huge hospital bills.

My 2005 kia sedona was parked in my garage and it caught fire in the dash in front of the steering wheel.that is where the fire department said it started.it was a total loss, only had 115,000 miles, no issues. Thank god it was at 8 am and we were awake, earlier my whole family and our home may have been gone as well.
I bought a new kia sedona on 2-27-06 had problems with the radio. The first time i had it in to be checked, they were going to put in a new radio but it was damaged in shipping.they ordered one put it in on the 10th of march 06, that night the van started caught fire and was totaled.
Brakes constantly squeak after new brakes and pads on. Electric windows passagener and driver side not workin
July 2006 i noticed a smell of burning brakes or something similar. But after i turned the vehicle off for an hour the smell disappeared. Then on july 4th 2006 we were 10 miles from home and noticed the radio turned off, then a few more miles the gauges all turned off, then by the time we got off the freeway, the car turned off. We then turned it back on,the radio and gauges all worked until we drove to the dealer which was closed so we drove one more mile to a safe place to park. At this time the car was completely dead. We looked in the engine, the fuse box was smoking and when opened, all the fuses weremelted down and all the wires were melted too. We then got it towed to the dealer the next day 7/5/06. The car has now been at the dealer for over a week and half, and will not be ready until next week. I am hoping the new wiring they put in doesn't burn again.this is the second major trouble with this new car under 9000 miles. The first trouble was one week after buying the new car with 3 miles on it. Drove into my driveway at home on a steep hill to find i had no brakes.the trouble was a kinked brake line that broke ... Very scary.
Several defects some were repaired some were not...i had not made my first payment on my new 2005 kia sedona when it caught on fire memorial day 05-29-06.

2005 kia sedona, when i first purchased vehicle, only about 3 weeks old, i went outside to start it and smoke came pouring out of steering wheel area, so much so that i was in the process of calling 911 after getting my young child out of her car seat and out of van, the smoke was significant and just stopped as quickly as it started, i took the van in and they acted like i was crazy and said there was nothing wrong, then last week with only 30,000 miles on the van, i pulled into the store parking space and came out and the steering column and wheels and ignition were completely locked and frozen, the van had to be towed in to the dealership because no one could get the steering column or ignition to unlock, they told us it was a cable that was out of adjustment, i have never heard of a cable being able to render a car completely inoperable at 30,000 miles, what is it went out of adjustment while i was driving down the freeway!!!! i strongly feel there is something fundamentally wrong with the steering column and connected systems in the steering column and they are not telling us the truth when we take it in for repair.
My wife went to start our 2005 kia, she heard the starter clicking.she then turned off the van. Tried a second time, heard the starter clicking and took out the key, the clicking noise continued, then smoke came from under the hood, her father had to put the fire out with a garden hose.

On 2 separate occasions, my new 2005kia sedona, with 4300 miles on it, has shut down while traveling the 1st time at around 40 mph, and the latest time traveling down i10 outside of tucson, az with 3 kids and 2 other adult passengers, traveling at about 65 mph. We pulled to the side of the road and tried to restart car. After 5-10 minutes, the car restarted, was put in drive, and moved a few feet before shutting down again. This time it didn't restart and we tried to call the 800 tow number that kia gave us. We couldn't get through to anyone, so the az highway patrol got a tow truck there in 5 minutes.not only are we out 300.00 for the cost of the tow, but it has been sitting at the dealership since 08/22/2005. They said that they won't give us a rental car so we had to rent one ourselves at the dealership. I spoke to the manager john on the saturday following and he said he didn't know what the diagnosis was and there was nobody in service on saturday, but he would call me on monday morning(today) and have someone "on it" first thing in the morning. I received no call. I called around 5:00 pm to find it was john's day off and he would be returning tuesday morning. I was then transferred to a "service tech" who pulled up on his computer the diagnostic of my car. He said that they had or is supposed to order a new rear engine mount. He said that he didn't know how long the part would be because it looked like they had to get it from japan(hq), and also didn't know how long it would take to install or why that would be making the car shut down. I am very concerned about the whole situation, and don't feel comfortable driving a car that needs to have a part replaced after 4000 miles, that keeps the engine from falling off the frame of my car, especially with infants in my car.please advise me on my rights(if any), and contact me asap at the phone number provided. Thanks for any help and concern.
The coolant line corroded and leaked coolant which made the vehicle run hot and stop. I was lucky to be near a gas station and got off of the road. I called aaa for a tow. The dealer would not warranty the coolant line stating it is a maintenance issue. Maintenance issue? how can the general consumer knowthat the coolant line that runs under the vehicle is a maintenance issue and not covered under the makers warranty.
The 2005 kia sedona air conditioner stopped functioning normally andsometimes it turns on and sometimes doesn't also the heater started acting up and it sometimes would turn on and sometimes wouldn't this has led to the car getting to the point where it's going to overheat.
Engine stalling.... Completely stopped...loss of power during city driving. Dealer not able to find problem. Had van towed. Air bag sensor will not shut off. Several dealers have tried to solve problem but cannot and van is unsafe and risky to drive.

2005 kia sedona over heated on several occasions. Consumer stated that kia told her to put coolant and water in the radiator. When it over heated a second time someone informed her of a rear coolant line problem.
I got my 2005 kia sedona in 5/2006 used.since that time, i have had to have the brakes replaced (pads and rotors) at least 6 times, have had to have 4 sets of tires and have had to have the air conditioning replaced.the compressor in the a/c went completely out in 2009.this is all in addition to:replacing spark plugs, fans, etc etc.i have spent a huge amount of money on this van and it still shakes, pulls etc and the brakes are about to have to be replaced again.
On june 20th i received a call from my wife that our van had overheated and shut it self off in the intersection, (luckily there was not much traffic.) when i arrived i found the van out of coolant. I refilled the coolant and checked for leaks, finding none i drove the van home. Upon arrival at home i found the van to be almost out of coolant again, but found no leaks. I refilled it again and the next day after a short trip i found a large puddle of coolant under the vehicle. I traced it back to two metal lines coming off the back of the motor. I called kia for service and when the i told them it was leaking coolant, their response to me was "off the back of the motor?". After talking with him for a few minutes i was told that the warranty for that item expired at 60000 miles and our van has 65000. I scheduled the service, then began thinking about how quickly he knew exactly where it was leaking from, and then i searched online finding a tsb for the repair. This prompted me to contact kia to see if they would still cover the repair and after speaking with an agent and a couple phone calls later i was told they would not. The leaking coolant comes from two metal coolant lines that run to the rear of the van for the rear heater. These lines rust and corrode over a couple year period allowing them to leak. I was told by the gentleman at the dealership that i am lucky as most people don't catch this in time and do lots of damage to the motor of the vehicle. I think this is a safety concern because if the vehicle just dies in a traffic it can cause an accident, and if the vehicle dies in inclement weather injury or death could occur. Kia is obviously aware of the situation due to the tsb and at the dealership i was told one manufacturer uses aluminum lines with a plastic coating to prevent this from occurring, so they are aware of a solution. Right now it is getting the lines replaced with the same type of lines that corroded, so i will be back in a couple of years.
Rear coolant lines are leaking antifreeze, causing overheating, and vehicle stalling.
Have a 2005 kia sedona and the van has 22,000 and has been in the repair shop for brake problems over 6 times.since 8/05 has been back in for service for oil leaks, remote problems, tire problems.the rotors have been changed, the pads, everything has been done but after a little time passes the noise and the pulsating comes back.the van starts to pull when you go to put on the breaks and it makes noises.keep bring it back to the dealership and they fix it with new brakes, rotors, pads but the problem keeps coming back and back.should not have had to replace the brakes and pads, and rotors so many times with very little mileage on it.updated 12/12/07

The dealer charged him $747.18, however, the danger is still present. Gasoline leaking under gas tank of vehicle. Was told by roadside assistance to first call fire dept. Did that. Then had vehicle towed to dealer. Said they replaced a fitting that was causing the leak. Drove the vehicle home. Day later after sitting in the drive way the whole time gas was leaking again. Vehicle is now being towed back in to the dealer again.
Fuel tank leaks due to corrosion near filler tube. This is a simular problem to the fuel tank corrosion experienced by 2006-on kia sportages.description: fuel will leak from the tank when the tank is full due to rust/corrosion of the tank near the filler tube.the vehicle is operated/owned in michigan, an area that uses large amounts of road salt during the winter months.fuel leakage is posing a potential fire/explosion risk as fuel vapors from the leakage may be ignited.fuel leakage occurs both when the vehicle is stationary and in motion.if the vehicle is parked in a closed garage the vapors can accumulate, elevating the risk for fire/explosion.(simularly the rear coolant lines rust through as well due to road salt, which is a known problem with the kia sedona)

Breaks and rotors changed 5 times. Abs system replaced. Master cylinder replaced. Emergency break doesn't work either. Kia still doesn't know what is wearing my breaks and rotors in about every 10 days. Bought the van with 18 miles on it and this all started at 2700 miles. Van is going back in tomorrow. Rented two other kia sedonas 2005 and both had break problems.
While driving at approx 55mph on both a 2 lane hwy and the interstate hwy, the van would suddenly make a loud bang sound, jump, and the rpms would go up to over 4000 and sound like it was in 2nd gear. Eng light code said intake trans sensor, which i had replaced. Same problem happend 2 more times after that and still not fixed.will work for a while after shutting car off and restarting it but same problem happens after about 20 miles. Code still reads intake sensor problem each time. I tried using off brand sensors the first 2 times and an authentic kia sensor the 3rd time. There was no difference in performance, just the cost of the parts.
Consumer 2005 sedona would not move forward or backward. Mechanic determined that it was the brakes.the consuemr believes theproblem is with the transmission.

I am writing to alert you to a dangerous problem with the springs responsible for the reclining mechanism of the seats in the 2005 sedona.we have an lx modelwith the captains chairs.i had noted previously that the seats would spring forward quite rapidly when there was not a person in the seat and the handle is pulled.the seat backs are quite heavy and fling forward with some force.this force was readily apparent this past thursday (5/11/06).our six-year old daughter was sitting in the chair in a reclined position.she stood up and faced the seat in order to raise the seat to the upright position.when she pulled the handle, the seat flung forward and hit her in the head.she sustained a cut to her right forehead that required a visit to the emergency room and three stitches.she also sustained a bruise to her upper eyelid.luckily, the seat did not hit her eye directly.
With normal traffic braking front brake start to shutter and brake pedal with pulse making it difficult to stop the vehicle even during a normal stopping action we have had several times where the vehicle has been hard to stop during emergency situation which required excess pressure on the brake pedal to stop.changed rotors and brake pads between the year 2066- and most recently 2014 4 times which still has not corrected the condition. The vehicle has 48900 mile on the vehicle. This vehicle need to be evaluated for safety defects that could cause a serious injury or death.
This particular problem starts when i'm on a major highway and have to make an "immediate action required" braking maneuver at higher speeds of 65-70mph.(slower vehicle in front of you = panic stop, exiting to an off ramp and a hard stop) when braking hard the cars brakes sounds like the abs system can't get a grip so to speak and the whole car shudders.the car brakes but sounds like your wearing something out. I have had a mechanic test drive the car but he could not replicate the condition. I had new rotors put on to no avail. The condition continues as of today under those conditions i've mentioned. I will live with the problem.thank-you

Brakes constantly squeak after new brakes and pads on. Electric windows passagener and driver side not workin
In motion. The brakes became more and more spongy. Upon inspection i found the studs that hold the master brake cylinder to the booster, one was broken off and the other had a loose nut.
Bought new jan-2006, early morning start up car would make loud gurgle and hissing sound, then when put into gear the brakes would grab and make a grinding feeling through the brake pedal and pull to the right as it started to roll. Kia says nothing wrong with it. Finally it was determend that abs module was bad, and replaced.now sept 2007 im having the same trouble again.but worse. Car will not stop all the wayeven when brake pedalis applied at full force. The car just does not want to stop. Causing the car to continue rolling thru an intersection.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.while driving 5 mph the front brakes would squeak and grind.the dealer stated there was no failure with the brakes, however; the brakes were replaced.the brakes operated normal after being replaced but the failure returned after two months.
Purchased vehicle in 5/2005.returned to dealer in august at 3500 miles, for brake noise.was told the rotors were warped from sitting on the lot before the sale of the vehicle.rotors were turned.noise stopped for a month or so.dealer went out of business, went to another dealer because of loud noise from brakes, sounded like a large truck when stopping.initially was told the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong, but after test driving it, they replaced pads.noise stopped briefly, but then the vehicle was over the 12k warranty for the brakes.i've had the car at my mechanics shop twice.he said the rear brakes are very large for this car, and front brakes are tiny with cheap shoes.brakes make noise all the time, and the car shutters when stopping at high speeds or going downhill.problem still not resolved.
I have a 2005 kia sedona ex and the brakes have always been a little weak for the vehicle but after having brake issues with the rotors glazing (becoming to hot) and having to replace pads way to often about every 6-8 thousand miles i decided to go online and look up issues and it seems that model year has had severe brake issues that kia knows about and says they are working on an upgrade that the owner can purchase but yet none have been released to date.multiple owners complaining of exact same issues regarding the braking system being way to small for the vehicle weight and i thought this needed to be at least brought to your attention.kia's fix is to replace rotors and pads but the vehicles have the exact same symptoms within short period of time.. This could and almost has caused me to be in an accident.love the van hate the brake system and am currently investigating the use of aftermarket drilled and slotted brake rotors to reduce heating issues..i am 37 yr old with a wife and 7 year old son and i don't drive my van hard but when i need it to stop i expect it to stop...*tw
2005 kia sedona brake system is not safe. I have replaced the front pads, calipers, wheel bearing, and disks multiple times. Wheel bearing and calipers were frozen and needed to be replaced.
Dt*: the contact stated the rotors were warped because the rear brakes were not adjusted correctly causing the rotors and brake pads to be defective.the vehicle has been looked at five different times and the dealer was unable to resolve the issue.the vehicle has not been in an accident. The contact expressed the brakes were manufactured incorrectly.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.while driving 25 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise and the brakes vibrated when they were applied.the dealer stated that the weight of the vehicle was too heavy for the braking system and caused the brakes and rotors to warp.the brakes and rotors were replaced, however, the failure recurred four more times.the failure mileage was 4,086 and current mileage was 17,000.
I own a 2005 kia sedona with the same brake problems as the other complaints.the dealer replaced them up until the warranty ran out and now it all comes out of my pocket.i've had the brakes done at least 5 times on this vehicle and this is ridiculous.does someone need to die in order for this to be corrected??the entire front end shakes and stutters horribly and every time i've been told my brakes/rotors need replaced.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.two weeks after purchasing the vehicle, the front end brakes began vibrating and shaking when they were applied.the vehicle has been to the dealer on three different occasions, and the front brakes and rotors were replaced twice.the purchase date and speed were unknown.the current mileage was 26,657 and failure mileage was 13,399.
From the first day i drove my 2005 kia sedona off the lot it has vibrated when the brakes are used. Even after having them replaced it continues to vibrate so i did not realize it was a big big problem until i started to read the reports on it now i cannot wait till i have it paid for so i can buy something else...the brakes also make a moaning noise and/or squealing noise...this is not all the time but it is aggravating ...will no buy kia product again...the only reason i got this one was there was not much choice after katrina hit and now i am stuck with it for a few more years...why won't they find a fix for it before some one is really hurt.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. The front brake system was replaced at 6,000 miles and 12,000 miles. The repair shop wasunable to diagnose the failure. The brakes continued to make a grinding noise and smelled as if they were burning. The repair shop cleaned the brakes on several occasions and found glaze spots on the brakes. The contact has copies of the repair invoice.the current mileage was 22,000. Update 4/9
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.whenever the contact attempts to stop the vehicle, the brakes begin to make a moaning sound.the contact only noticed the sound while braking at low speeds.he did not notice any differences beforehand and the vehicle has been diagnosed by the dealer several different times.the rotors and brake pads were replaced.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 25,000 and failure mileage was 100. The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.the contact felt a pulsating sensation when braking, which caused the entire vehicle to shake.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the brakes and rotors were replaced under warranty.the brakes have been replaced numerous times.the failure mileage was 12,000 and current mileage was 48,000.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.the contact stated that the brakes would grind when the brake pedal was depressed.the brakes were replaced at the failure mileage (28,934 miles) and again at the current mileage (52,773).
1)vehicle shutters and makes roaring noise when braking down hill.brakes overheat and slide and do not stop well.vehicle shutters when braking under normal conditions but more so going down hill.2)tires need balance and rotating every 2000 miles and rotors and brake pads need replacing every 2000-4000 miles.the back shoes are glazed over3) first time rotors and pads were replaced and back shoes unglazed. Second time rotors turned and the brake pads were not removed and back shoes unglazed.third time rotors and pads are going to be removed and back shoes unglazed.this vehicle has 7000 miles on it and the district manager of the dealership agrees this is excessive and he did not make me feel confident that it can be fixed.they are claiming this year and model had brake issues.on the fourth time i will sue for lemon law.this is unacceptable.i am in the process of writing a letter to the manufacturer.i have contacted the corporate office.
Consumer 2005 sedona would not move forward or backward. Mechanic determined that it was the brakes.the consuemr believes theproblem is with the transmission.
From the beginning of the purchase in october, 05, i have had pulsating brakes that don't want to stop on contact.the local dealer informed me there was a part coming out to replace/repair and as soon as it was out, i would be one of the first to get my vehicle fixed.every 3-4 000 miles at oil change and tire rotation, i have had work done on my brakes and kia has covered the cost.every time i go in and complain, they fix the problem and tell me it's still in "process".when my vehicle rolled over 60,000 miles, the warranty expired and now kia is telling me they will no longer cover the cost to repair this ongoing manufacture problem.
Dt*:the contact stated a month after the vehicle waspurchased, a roaring sound was heard everytime the brakes were applied.the vehicle was taken to the dealer 4 times after this incident.the dealer determined the vehicle was operating normally.there was no incident of brake failure.there are alsoproblems with adjusting the driver side seat backwards.the vehicle was taken to dealer in april 2006 who could not duplicate the problem.the dealer also located recalls for driver side seats but the vin number of this vehicle was not included in the recall.
I own a 2005 kia sedona that i purchased new. I put the first set of brakes on it at 15,000 miles. It now has 52,000 and i'm going to have to put the fifth set on. I contacted kia directly and they told me their wasn't a recall but there was a brake system upgrade that i could purchase. I asked if they were aware of a brake problem and they said only in certain areas ,depending on the terrain. I am 32 years old and have never seen nothing like this and i have always lived here. At 52,000 miles i should just now be putting on the first set of brakes.
Brakes squealed at slower speeds.brakes replaced using kia parts twice in 2 years.eventually, braking at high speeds (over 35mph & on hwy) caused van to shake excessively, and steering wheel to vibrate, along with return of squealing noise at lower speeds.kia parts used again to replace brake discs, rotors 01/09.within one month the squealing and then shaking problems returned.goodyear found other reports of this same problem and replaced the kia parts with an upgraded aftermarket brand of parts.no problems since!we have also had to replace tires 3 times before this latest fix.
I am writing a complaint about the rotors and brakes on my 2005 kia sedona. I know many others that own the same type of van and are having the same problem. I have taken it in the dealer and they have told me that they know and are aware of the problem but there is nothing they can do. They have told me that the rotors need to replaced and that the brakes also need to be. I have taken it in several time to have my brakes checked and have been told that they are fine and that there is something wrong with the rotors and that it is a dealer problem. I would like for this to be looked into more as to i wouldnot want to have an accident with such a problem to my van.
I own a 2005 kia and we have replaced the brakes several time because it squeals and moans and they shake the car when applied but replacing them doesn't seem to help.
I have a 2005 kia sedona van with less than 34,000 miles. I have been pulsating problem in what i thought was my brakes but now know that it is the rotors on my van. When driving especially on the highway when i apply my brakes the shaking and pulsation makes me think i will not be able to stop. After doing some research on the internet i find that many sedona owners have had the same problems. I took it in to my local kia dealer today(7/28/2009) and they told me that yes many have this problem but it is not something that is covered with my warranty. I have to have them replaced or turned at a cost to me of some $400. Why when so many people are having this issue why has no one issued a recall to find out why this is happening. I am just as frustrated as the other owners trying to resolve this issue. I guess it is going to take a few people getting hurt or killed before this issue can be resolved.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.while driving 50 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the front end of the vehicle shook violently.the dealer stated that the cause of failure was unknown, however, they replaced the rotors.the failure continued and the drums and pads were replaced.this did not correct the failure and the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 42,000 and failure mileage was 4,000.updated 12/12/2007 the consumer stated kia does not have a fix for this and denies there is a problem. Updated 12/12/07
New van purchased with 3 miles on it back to dealer on 3 separate occasions to deal with brake issues, shuttering and "moaning" sound.first time rotors cut and brakes "cleaned" (approx 5500 miles).second time could not replicate the moaning sound (11300 miles).third time replicated moaning sound coming from rear drums, dealer resurfaced drums (approx 11600 miles).everything so far was under warranty so no cost was incurred up to this point.replaced rotors and front pads due to regular maintenance 5 months ago (approx 23000 miles).everything fine until 30000 mile service where brakes are adjusted (rear) and extreme shuttering occurs from rear (perhaps masked by not having properly adjusted rear brakes).appears to be drums that are out of round.will pay $125 each drum and apply myself as they are clearly out of warranty, but it seems that there is some inherent problem with the brakes on this van.3500 lbs and too small of a braking system.this is my second new kia sedona and 3rd new kia vehicle in three years.love the brand - wish they'd fix the brake issue....this is going to get expensive now that it is out of warranty.seems like the majority of complaints are for the brakes.
Dt: whilegoing 45mph consumer's vehicle washit head on. Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy. This happened on august 19, 2005. The brakeslocked andslid into the vehicle. Called kia, and they said they will call the consumer.
Dt:the contact states shas been having problems withbrakes since april or may2005. The brakes were squeaking and the rotors were warped. The dealership told the contact that the rotors were warped from the boat where the car had been shipped. They replaced the rotors.also, they replaced the brakes and the pads.in addition, filed some kind of clips and dusted the pads. She has had the brakes worked on or repaired a total of five-six times since april. Right now the brakes were jerking badly when she stopped. The rubber piece that goes around the window to seal the window was bad. The failure mileage was 11,00 ,and the current mileage was 12000. The failure was not due to a need for a front end alignment.the failureoccurred 30 times.
This van has been in 3 times for brakes the rotors keep warping.i have taken it to the kia place twiced and to it to another dealership the third time.i have only had the van for 2 years (may 08).the other dealership says, that i will have to replace the rotors every 6 months.the rotors become warped "excessive lateral run out" per kia the front tires wear excessively, and the vehicle does not stay aligned. All that kia will do is replace the front rotors and pads until the warranty is out then the consumer pays. I haveresearch on line the front brakes are undersized, causing the rotors to over heat and warp. The struts seem to have a wrong type of mount system and have to be replaced. Kia is doing nothing about this they state that it is driving habits. Thousands of people have complained about this, kia's final stand is that it is my driving habits. They are not taking responsibility for the safety flaw in their engineering of the front end being in adequate for the weight of the vehicle.kia needs to stand up and fix there vans'.i have replaced 6 tires in the last two years.
Vehicle has multiple brake issues...replaced front rotor and pads 3 times, and replaced front wheel bearings twice. Vehicle was bought with 7,226 miles and now has 20,000 miles. The belts were replaced twice and the front suspension was fixed twice so far. Vehicle was bought at zeiser motors is st. Peters mo and the service department keeps telling me there is nothing wrong with vehicle.

Starting in november2006the2005 kia sedona started making a loud groaningnoise when coming to a stop, usually at less than 20 mph. By january 2007 it stated happening almost every stop. A strong vibration could be felt through the pedal too. We took it to the dealer in may 2007 in the hopes of it being repaired, as we could take it no more. They said they looked at it and found nothing wrong.i asked if they had done the tsb # kt20070402401 by kia. They said if the mechanic foundnothing , and they didnot look at the tsb. The tsb, stated that the brakes should be changed if the customer reportedthe problem we had. They didnot want to do it. We took the van and drove it. Within 15 stops and less than 1 hour later the groanwasback. I will be taking it back to dealer, and making them do the tsb.my wife and i refused to tow our pop up camperor drive long distances as wewere afraid the brakes will fail!
This van has been in 5 times for brakes the rotors keep warping.
At 10,616 miles i had to have my brake rotors and pads fixed due to squealing; the dealers mechanic turned the rotors and replaced the pads. Now at 20934 miles the same repair has to be done again. When i questioned the mechanics about this i was told they are having a problem with the 2005 kia sedona due to the brakes not being sufficient for the weight of the vehicle. I was also told never to tow a trailer even though my van is rated to tow because the brakes may fail. When i contacted kia complaints they said they would not do anything to help me, and denied there was a problem with the brakes on the 2005 sedona. Bought van new.at 9k started vibrating.took to dealer and they replaced rotors.again at 20k.then they replaced the rear drums for vibrating. Then they turned rotors and drums to correct vibration.mechanics and service managers all tell me it's a known problem because vans weight was increase to get better safety rating, but they used light weight brakes and they can't handle the heavier van and overheat and warp.after all this, they tell me know that they won't cover to fix issue any more, saying it isn't a safety issue.if they rotors/drums aren't sufficient to stop vehicle correctly, seems to be a safety issue to me.need to have this investigated and action taken.i have opened a case w/ kia corp. Rotors warped at 20,000 miles.way too soon for this kind of wear.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.while driving between 55-65 mph, the brakes pulse whenever the contact is driving downhill.she has taken the vehicle to the shop for the failure.the mechanic repeatedly states that the squeaking is normal and a part of normal wear and tear.the contact believes that the failure is a manufacturer defect because the vehicle only has 17,000 miles.the current mileage is 17,000 and failure mileage was 3,000.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.the brakes and rotors were replaced at 8,700 miles.at 16,400 miles, the vehicle needs new rotors and readjusting of the rear brakes.as a result, the brakes pulsate and cause the vehicle to shake and make it difficult to brake.when she took the vehicle to the dealer, they stated that the failure was due to her riding the brakes while driving.the current mileage was 16,400 and failure mileage was 8,700.

I own an 05 kia sedona, bought new, has had brake problems from the beginning.the dealer, that services - not the one i bought from, has serviced the vehicle from the first, told me that the manufacturer was working on getting replacement parts and that as soon as they came out i would be one of the first to receive the part.now, my warranty has expired and i am having to cover the cost of replacing the parts every 3-4000 miles when i get oil changes and the dealer says they cannot cover it any longer because the warranty has expired.i am concerned because i have had transmission issues (that the dealer cannot "find the problem") they say that if a problem occurs they will cover fixing it because it's been ongoing but that's what i was told about the brake problem.the brakes are so bad that the whole van shakes and doesn't feel like the brakes are grabbing or are going to stop the vehicle and my children are learning to drive in the van.

The consumer states that service dept. The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. The contact stated that the brake rotors on the vehicle were warped within two thousand miles. The contact has taken the vehicle back to the dealer repeatedly for the failure. The contact stated that after the vehicle was no longer under warranty, they purchased after market rotors that warped as well. The manufacturer also redesigned a rotor that warped as well. The contact stated that every rotor placed on the vehicle warped within ten thousand miles. When the rotor warped, it made the vehicle extremely hard to handle. This problem had also caused the vehicle to need to new tires and an alignment. The contact was concerned since the vehicle became extremely difficult to control when the failure occurred. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 9500.the current mileage was 100,000.
2005 kia sedona bought van brand new 9/11/2004 on 10/3/05 took van in for service and check up vibration in front end when applying brakes, was told by dealership rotors needed to replaced and work was completed, mileage at time 11,706.in march of 06 took van in for service and had same complaint of vibration in front end when applying brakes, was told it would need the rear brakes cleaned and adjusted not covered under warranty mileage approx. 15, 000 miles.front end still vibrated when applying brakes took vehicle in for 20,000 mile check and service and dealer advises rotors and brakes are worn out mileage is 20,398.dealer will not take care of problem under warranty, talked to kia customer service and they advised for discussion with field rep, he advised customer service he will not cover under warranty.at this time i will not let kia dealership repair brake problem, i have ordered high performance brake rotors and pads to replace oem equipment.talked with other consumers who own same year and model of van this seems to be a common problem.
In jan 2006, after only 12,000 miles on my 2005 kia sedona, we took our car in for front brake work. The front wheels vibrated when coming to a stop. The kia dealer re-turned the rotors and it fixed the problem temporarily.the problem returned but we have ignored it until now (july 2007) when at 40,000 miles the kia dealer says this is a maintenance issue, not a warranty issue.they said they would fix the problem for $450.

Very scary.

The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. While driving approximately 15 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn without warning. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
Was leaving our local walmart ; and when almost to the intersection; felt the car wheel wobble like i got a flat tire. So i stopped and got out and looked; didn't see any flats ; started to go and a thunk ; and then i couldn't move; both front tires were pointing in opposite directions. Had to have it towed home; and haven't been able to look and see what the problem is because of the weather. I sure am glad i wasn't going down the interstate at that time; is where i was going .
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. While the contact was driving approximately 5mph out of a parking garage he noticed that the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the rack and pinion; however, the failure is still occurring. The current and failure mileages were 71000.
Steering wheel will not turn at low speeds.this has almost caused accidents on several occasions.steering wheel will not turn or becomes very difficult to turn when i back out of my driveway or out of a parking space.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. The contact stated while driving 5 mph, the steering wheel turned in a full circle several times independently. The air bag warning light illuminated and the horn sounded prior to the engine shutting off. The vehicle was merged to the side of the road. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The factory installed spring type clamp failed to hold the power steering hose on; the hose came off, all the power steering fluid came out and steering was lost. The spring type clamp was replaced with a worm type clamp.fortunately this happened in a parking lot. If it had happened on the highway or in traffic it could have resulted in an accident. Also the power steering fluid could have blown onto the exhaust system and caused a fire.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.while driving approximately 35 mph or less on normal road conditions, the contact exerted much effort to make a left turn.the vehicle steered in one direction.the failure occurred without warning.the contact had to make several attempts to maneuver the steering wheel before it resumed normal operation.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and they stated that the failure was possibly related to the rack and pinion.the failure occurred on two separate occasions.recently, the steering wheel locked up while the vehicle was in operation.there were no juries.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence.the authorized dealer was notified of the failures and stated that they were contributed to the intermittent joint shaft, which was a common defect.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 82,000 and current mileage was 83,000.
Continual power steering leak for over a year now; finally diagnosed with rack/pinion dysfunction.
Vehicle is hard to turn at <5mph or idle and jerks or refuses to respond.
3/29/2016...my 2005 kia sedona has steering problems. The steering wheel is tight or stiff and often difficult to steer especially in making right turns. My mechanic experienced the same problem this morning when driving it and said it is the steering coupler.when he contacted a local kia dealership their parts department told him that there was a recall on this item.however, it seems when i called to arrange an appointment to have the recall addressed, i learned that there is no open recall on my vehicle at this time but that there had been a recall back in 2005 on the steering coupler and work had been done. However, i didn't purchase the van until 2007 and was unaware of that recall.iam very concerned about this steering problem that is occurring now in my kia sedona van and that it needs to be addressed again by kia and believe that other owners may be experiencing the same problems in steering their vans as i am. The steering coupler needs to be recalled again.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. While driving at low speeds and making a right turn, the steering wheel seized. As a result, the contact crashed into a curb and the air bags failed to deploy. A police report was not filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was taken to multiple dealers and independent mechanics who were unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Driving out of spot at parking lot my wife had the steering to hard to turn and the engine was accelerated. She could not turn and hit a car on the driver side front wheel
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph he felt a vibration when the brakes were applied.when he pulled over he noticed that the front end suspension had fallen apart. The manufacturer was contacted and advised her to take it to a dealer for a diagnostic test.the dealer stated that it was the contacts driving habit that contributed to the front end suspension failing. The vehicle has been repaired four times and is currently waiting for the fifth part to be installed.the dealer replaced the wheel bearings and the knuckle assembly which has fallen apart five times. The failure mileage was 105,000. The current mileage was 123,442.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. While driving 55 mph, the sun roof detached from the vehicle which nearly caused a crash.
We have a 2005 sedona which we love. It's been a great car for us. Unfortunately, we have had ongoing issues with it for some time now. Our main problem and concern right now is with the front end struts and or alignment.the noise and knocking at low speeds (especially when accelerating from a stand-still) is troublesome, but more troublesome is that we constantly need to replace the front tires. We are going on our 4th set of new tires (for the front alone) due to alignment issues. No balancing or alignment work has helped. After hours of research on line, it seems that the front brakes may be undersized causing the rotors to over heat and warp. The struts also seem to have a wrong type of mount system and have to be replaced. There are numerous complaints to be found on the web from people with similar issues. There is a tsb on the topic (cha015) regarding new strut mounts, but we are not sure what to do about it now.http://www.kia-forums.com/kia-carnival-sedona/26537-sedona-front-struts.htmlhttp://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/16289/kia/sedona/kia-sedona-strut-issueshttp://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/7565/kia/sedona/kia-sedona-tires-wheelswe are so disappointed and kia seems to be doing nothing about it. The problem is getting worse and we fear that there is a safety concern here.
Every 2-5 thousand miles the rotors become warped "excessive lateral run out" per kia the front tires wear excessively, and the vehicle does not stay aligned. All that kia will do is replace the front rotors and pads until the warranty is out then the consumer pays.after hours of research on line the front breaks are undersized, causing the rotors to over heat and warp.the struts seem to have a wrong type of mount system and have to be replaced.kia is doing nothing about this they state that it is driving habits.thousands of people have complained about this, most do not know how to follow through to get anything done.kia's final stand is that it is my driving habits.they are not taking responsibility for the safety flaw in their engineering of the front end being in adequate for the weight of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona. The contact stated that there was a progressing noise heard near the brake system. The dealer diagnosed that the wheel bearings and hubs prematurely fractured and were held together only by two bolts. The parts had to be replaced on the front driver's side tire. The dealer was to further inspect the other three tires. In addition, the vehicle was to be taken to an independent repair shop. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but provided no solution. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 05v232000 (wheels). The contact was uncertain as to who would repair the vehicle and if the failure would recur. The failure mileage was not available.

Dt:received a recall 05v232000 back in early june for kia sedona. Contacted the dealer three times. They have done an inspection for the recall, but didnot have the parts. Contacted the manufacturer twice, they said dealer should have partsby july 8th, 2005.contacted them again , and were they were on a nation wide back order, andshould be delivered some time in august.
2nd complaint for the 2005 kia sedona - rear tire wear.every set of tires i put on the vehicle need to be replaced in the back after 6 months due to extreme inside wear.took the vehicle to a private repair shop and they stated there was no way to adjust and suggested taking to a dealer.i took it to a dealer and got the same response - plus no aftermarket part to put on it either.of course it took me 3 months to get a response out of the dealer on the aftermarket question.now, every 10,000-15,000 miles i replace the front tires with new, and put the old ones on the back.i even took the tires to the dealer for show and tell....they had no answer for the problem.
My air bag light is on and i talk to kia about it they want to charge me a price for to take it off i hae a wheel bearing promble to. I had to get my wheel bearing repairto.
I own a 2005 kia sedona lx that was purchased april 05'. I'd noticed off and on for the past 3-4 months a musty odor permeating from the vents when using the ac.i inquired with the dealership as to whether or not this vehicle had a filter for the cooling unit and was informed that the older kia's do not have filter systems.it was further explained to me that i was probably smelling mold from condensation that builds up on the evaporator, while using the ac, drains into the reservoir and over time mold forms.to prevent the creation of mold the vent would need to be changed to normal air flow, manually, prior to shutting the vehicle off.to remove the mold the evaporator needs to be cleaned and treated with an anti-fungal spray.an alternative to the afore mentioned service is to directly spray the anti-fungal agent into the vents while the heater is on hopefully, killing the mold and eliminating the smell. I've contacted kia customer service and was again informed that this is classified as a "maintenance" issue, which isn't covered under warranty (cost anticipated $1,000).good news though, all kia's from 2006 through present day have been built with a cabin filter; and an auto-switch for air flow, preventing mold.i believe this is a manufacture defect and had a filter system of some kind been used there wouldn't be an issue with mold. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to inform the consumer of this hazardous to your health issue.so while i'm being told that this isn't a manufacture problem, but rather a "maintenance" issue, the vents continue to blow the air directly toward my face, thus causing health risk exposure. I know that property and casualty insurance companies have gone to great lengths to explain signs and warnings of mold exposure and request preventative measures be taken since there are mold exclusions, surely manufactures should be held to the same standard.thank you for your time of looking into this matter.
Dt:consumer received recall letter on june 15, 2005, and the dealer said he did not have the kit to do recall repairs.consumer wanted to take vehicle on trip on june 23, 2005 and was concerned that dealer will not have repairs done in time, and vehicle may not be safe. Consumer contacted manufacturer, and they wanted him to call back. Consumer wanted to take vehicle on trip if possible.
Took my 2005 kia sedona van in for the 7 time since 12/2004 to have brakes replaced.spoke with the service techs and they say that kia seems to have a problem with the front braking system on this vehicle, and is aware of the problem.the manufactor tells the service dept. To just keep replacing them.i am worried about the safety of my family when driving this vehicle.the dealership service department has replaced the braking system many times, but the kia motors refuses to acknowledge the problem.
The contact owns a 2005 kia sedona.while driving 35 mph the vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle which caused the middle row seats to detach from the floor and slam into the front seats.the vehicle was towed to the repair shop.they stated that the plastic latch broke.there are pictures available if needed.the current and failure mileages were 27,000.
My kia sedona starts when it wants to. I have power to the dash lights, radio, and other electronics. The company has known about this issue since the 2002 version and withhigh miles. It has to deal with the "an issue with the factory vehicle immobilizer control module can cause the vehicle to think it is being stolen. This will immediately disallow the vehicle from starting.". While this is good most of the time, it isn't good since it doesn't set off the "engine light" so mechanics can read the computer. I have been without my vehicle for a month and missed numerous days of work due to this issue. The mechanics that attempt to work on my vehicle, can not get it to duplicate the "not starting", it will start every time for them. Making me feel like an idiot. This problem has been going on for two months and it draining my finances. I did some research of my own and discovered that on www.repairpal.com has many who have the same issues.kia wants me to take the vehicle to the nearest kia dealer to have it checked out. The nearest dealer is 6 hrs away and there is no guarantee that it would make it there. I couldn't even drive it 2 hrs with out an issue. I feel since they knew there was an ongoing issue with this module on this vehicle, they should have to replace it and make compensation for the customer.

I am the owner of a 2004 kia sedona.approximatley three months ago, we received notice of a recall on the vehicle.it was immediately taken in to have the repairs made - or so we thought.when we returned to get the vehicle we were told that it needed repair, but the manufacturer would not provide the dealer - bill jacobs - joliet, il - with the parts necessary for the repair.as of today's date 9-7-05 the vehicle has not been repaired.i have made complaints to kia, numerous calls to the dealer and each time we are told the parts are expected on a boat the next day and amazingly they never arrive.
I received a factory safety recall notice in the mail today concerning my 2005 kia sedona minivan. I purchased it in fort walton beach, florida while stationed at eglin afb, fl. I received military orders to move to minot afb, north dakota and found that there isn't a kia dealer within 286 miles or 5 1/2 hours. There is an authorized kia service location in minot, nd at don bessette motors but can only use them for emergency factory service. The factory recallcondition states that in freezing conditions, which north dakota falls into that category, can cause the throttle cable to freeze during normal operation allowing the vehicle to maintain or accelerate speeds without warning and may cause a crash. I would like to have the kia motor company to either authorize me to have my car worked on here in minot or have my car towed to the nearest kia dealer at their expense and have it fixed. I work in transportation for the military and have never heard of such resistance from a car company to fix a mistake on one of their own cars. Thank you.
Dt: after the owner purchased the vehicle on july 2 2005, she received a recall letter on july 9 2005. The recall number was 05v329000. It was about the throttle cable sticking. The owner was upset because at the time of purchase, the dealership did not make her aware of any recalls on the vehicle. The owner believes that if a car has a serious safety problem, the car should not be sold until repaired. This should be a law. Cars should not be sold when they have outstanding recalls. The owner is concerned that some people after purchasing the vehicle, would not pay attention to these recall letters that arrive shortly after purchase and they could end up in an accident due to something that should be repaired before the car is sold.

In reference to campaign id number: 05v232000.my kia sedona has the defective wheel bearings as indicated by the report, but somehow has not been included in the original recall.my vehicle is being serviced by kiefer kia in eugene, oregon.the dealership is making, and paying for, necessary repairs.to my understanding, had we not found this issue before our warranty had expired we would have been liable for the cost of repair.i would like to see this recall extended through my vin #, if your findings support my complaint.more-so for reason to cover any other past/future recalls found that our van may be affected by.thank you for your time.
Dt: the consumer made a complaint on june 30th, 2005 for his kia. He received a recall for the problem, kia has had the vehicle for over weeks.before the consumer took it there they assured him they had the part in stock. He contacted the dealer service manager, and the manufacturer. Amy representing the manufacturer said they were setting the part aside with his name on it and that was 10 days ago. The dealer still does not have the part. The recall is for the bearing assembly on both rear wheels.
I bought my 2005 kia sedona in september 2005.in the month of april i noticed my hub caps were peeling.when i contacted my kia dealer he informed me that it was not a defect but instead they wheels must have been cleaned with an acid base cleaner.i told him i had already contacted my car detailer and they said they do not use any cleaner like that because they are well aware of the fact this can happen.wheni relayed this to the service manger at the dealership he said they must be wrong.but in any case he would replace only the ones that were peeling and would only do it this one time.from now on i would have to purchase them.he also said he had other customers with the same problem and he only replaced theirs once and some have paid to have them replaced up to four times in the past year.but again he said it's not kia's problem.i think he needs to rethink this and kia does to.they use cheap plastic hub caps and need to do something about it.
