The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle crashed into a deer and caused significant damage to the front end. During the crash, the air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 80,000.

Srs light stays-on caused by broken seat-belt buckle wiring under passenger and driver seats. Buckle sensor wiring is vulnerable to shearing and damage as any of both seats is adjusted back and forth. New parts cost more than $300, plus labor. After repairs, the srs can be reset only at the dealership ($120 min, additional). This is a manufacturer design flaw.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the air bag deployed independently. As a result, the windshield shattered. The contact sustained two broken fingers that required medical attention. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. I bought a used 2003 kia sedona with 136000 miles.the day after purchasing the vehicle, the srs indicator light started staying lit on the dash.my mechanic found that the code was b1513, which indicated a problem with the passenger seat belt buckle (female end).they ordered that part new from kia and replaced it (for a cost of $238).the indicator light did not display for about three weeks when it went on again.this time, the codes were b1511 and b1513, which indicates problems with both the diver and passenger buckles.my mechanic believes it is a wiring issue, and at this point we are not replacing the seatbelts, because i have no way of knowing that it would really resolve the issue.the cost to replace the srs wiring is prohibitive (over $1000). I feel very unsafe in this vehicle, as no one can say for sure that my airbags will still deploy in case of an accident.it is very disappointing because the vehicle still drives very well.kia should be more proactive about replacing/repairing faulty srs components, even in older vehicles.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.while driving at an unknown speed, the air bag indicator illuminated.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they changed the seat belt buckles on the driver and passenger seats.there was an inner connection with the circuits, which caused the air bag indicator to illuminate.the failure mileage was 98,000.updated 05/06/09.*ljupdated 05/07/09.

The contact's seat belt was secured and when her body lunged forward, the seat belt webbing movement caused burns to the shoulder and chest area. The air bags failed to deploy upon impact. A police report was available. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was unknown.

My airbag lite has been turning off and on at different times..eg.lite turns on and is on for about 15 to 20 seconds then turns off.now, 11/17/2014 when i started to drive it,the light went on and has stayed onever since when the ignition is on.i wanted to take it to the dealership where i purchased the car new but they are out of business.today on fox news i head where they are having some trouble with seat belts on different cars.would like toknow what i should do. I love the car and want to keep it.i haven't had any problem with it.it has been great!!please advise me what i should do.thank you.respectfully,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On april 23 2005 the front end of my 2003 kia sedona hit a ford explorer.this accident caused $9,000 in damage to my kia and sent myself, my husband, and my 2 year old daughter to the hospital.my airbags did not go off, and no one seemed to know why.i would like this investigated.

While driving at 55 mph vehicle spun out of control and hit a semi tractor trailor and air bags did not deploy.

Driving a 2003 kia sedona approximately 35 mph when a car made a left turn right in front of us.we hit them almost head on, then were thrown to the right, up over a curb and came to rest against a brick wall.my husband was driving, he sustained cuts to his forehead when he struck the windshield, and yes, we were both properly belted in.he also broke the steering wheel, leaving bruises on his chest.i was in the front passenger seat and sustained a fractured right radois and a fractured left femur, both required surgery to put in plates and screws.i spent a week in the hospital;, another week in a rehab hospital before being allowed to return home.i am now in a wheelchair for the next 3 months, while undergoing physical therapy and need daily assistance to get by..none of the airbags on my 2003 kia sedona deployed during the accident.the other vehicle, i believe it may have been a toyota, had all their bags deploy.the firefighters on the scene were astounded that none of the bags deployed.the car was totaled by our insurance carrier, state farm.

While driving at 45 mph consumer was involved a front and rear accident and neither of the air bags deployed. The consumer was trying to avoid being hit by another vehicle. When she swerved, the vehicle got to close to the guardrail so she pulled to the right. At that point, the vehicle started to skid and fishtail. Consumer couldn't regain control. The vehicle spun around and hit the guardrail with the front of the vehicle. Then the vehicle bounced across the expressway and hit the guardrail with the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle then bounced back across the expressway and finally stopped. The consumer sustained an orbital fracture. The air bags fail to deploy. Mechanic stated the air bags should've deployed.*ph*nlm

Air bags failed to deploy and in my 2003 kia sedona van accident, i was almost killed.i am still under the care of several doctors because of problems which developed from the accident.this has become a huge financial burden due to numerous medical bills.i can obtain a copy of the accident report if you would like to have it.i think kia should have to assume the responsibility for huge amounts of medical bills since safety equipment apparently did not work properly.i would appreciate hearing from you.thank you for your time.betty dickerson

In july 2004 a person ran a stop sign, i completely drove into her whole passengers side with the front end of my 2003 kia sedona.i also had my 2 year old son in the car at the time.the air bags did not deploy which was a concern to the emergency personnel that responded to the scene.i sustained neck injury that later had to have surgery to correct and my son who was in his safety seat in the rear also sustained burn injury from his safety seat harness. I contacted kia after the accident and was told that there was no way to test the air bags unless they deployed them.needless to say they would not do this.again in august 2005 another driver ran a stop sign and again i hit them with full front end to their drivers side.again the air bags did not deploy causing concern with the emergency personnel.i still continue to have pain from my 2004 accident and i am still in the process of trying to recoup some of my losses.(wages, medical, time with my son).i can't even begin to list the loss i have that will never be recouped.someone needs to check into this, it seems to me after reading all these complaints about the air bags that something is wrong.i have all the police reports, estimates and pictures.

My 2003 kia sedona air bag light kept coming on told kia dealer about it they refused to do anything for it. Said was not a problem. Upon a accident the pass. Airbag deployed with know one in the seat or any item in the seat it deployed so hard that it tore the sun visoroff its arm and turned it into a projectile.

A front end impact at 45 mph and the airbag did not deploy.

While driving 45 mph, the consumer applied the brake pedal, but the brakes failed.this caused the consumerto collided with the vehicle in front of his.the occupants in all three vehicles sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital.both frontal air bags failed to deploy.the vehicle was towed to a garage for inspection.please provide further details.

Upon impact the driver's side air bag did not deploy resulting in the driver hitting her face on the steering wheel.*mrthe driver suffered from multiple cuts inside her mouth, a fractured nose which caused shortness of breath and multiple bruises.

Dt: while driving the air bag light came on.consumer took car to dealer who performed a diagnostic test which showed a faulty sensor withinthe air bag.dealer ordered a new air bag sensor.consumer waited 3 weeks for this to be delivered.dealer said there was no chance the air bag could deploy as it was simply inactive.on june 17, 2005 the buckle was replaced, and the air bag light went off and no longer illuminated.on august 13, 2005, the air bag light came on again.took vehicle back to dealer ,who noted the air bag sensor was not working and again had to wait for the part to come in.

The junction block (fuse box) located behind the cover near the emergency brake pedal partially burned and melted at two pin connectors. The adjacent wiring harness connector also partially burned and melted. Prior to the failure, the dash indicator for the defroster illuminated and remained illuminated even though the defroster was not turned on. When the car was turned off, the dash indicator for the defroster remained illuminated. The battery was dead the next day. After jump starting the van, it was driven to the local kia dealer where the machanic identified the junction block damage. Kia has proposed to replace the junction block and entire dash wiring harness for $1,934.19. The cost of the junction block is $19.95, but the cost of the wiring harness is $1,067.65. The balance of the proposed cost is labor and taxes. Kia does not provide the harness connector as a separate part. I called the kia help line and provided a verbal report to a customer service agent, and was told that kia can do nothing else to resolve the problem.i located 12 relevant odi complaints for 2003 sedonas and 2 relevant odi complaints for 2003 sedona ex models, all resulting in dash fires. I did not search other model years. It may have been my good fortune not to experience a vehicle fire, as well as compelling evidence related to the cause of these other reported fires.

Power locks failed without warning. Dealer states an electrical short occurred.

The vehicle was not operating unusually before. The vehicle had been parked for about two hours before the fire was noticed. I purchased the 2003 kia sedona in june of 2012 and by october of 2013 we had to replace the alternator twice in less then a month due to it losing power now the car continues to loose power when driving and while it is stopped. I have taken it to 3 different mechanics and no one can figure out what is wrong with it. The battery is brand new and the alternator is brand new but the battery dies every time it is driven. All the mechanics can tell me is that the alternator is not charging the battery but it is working. It will start hiccuping when you have to accelerate.

We have a 2003 kia sedona ex that is one year old.it had 20,000 miles on the car and had no problems at all.on 09/03/04, after dropping our daughters off at school 5 minutes away, we pulled in the driveway, turned the car off and smoke poured out of vents.after that, car started on its own with no keys in it, panic started sounding constantly and then the car started on fire behind the steering wheel and was in full flames within one minute.the chief of the goshen fire dept. Stated it was an electrical fire that started in the dashboard.we are waiting for copy of report. We contacted the kia manufacturer in ca immediately and sent pictures (can be furnished). It took kia almost 2 weeks to even contact us after repeated calls to them.they called on 09/14/04 and said we'd have an answer by 2 p.m. 09/15 and they never called.today, after we called and threatened to sue them (msg. Left on voicemail), they called us right back to tell us they are denying our claim and this is not their responsibility.this was obviously a defective car with a faulty electrical system.this is not an insurance issue by any means and we feel kia should replace this car.they didn't even ask us any questions or wait for the fire report before denying our claim.the grief this has caused our family has been horrible.

Drove 2003 kia sedona 4 or 5 miles. Got out to eat and in about 5 minutes or less the inside was full of smoke and the dashboard was in flames behind the steering wheel. Used fire estingisher but did not get the fire out completely and fire department came and put the fire out. I had heard there could be a problem with this happening on other 2003 kia sedona's. Have contacted kia and they will not do anything until insurance company contacts them.

Heater wiring harness over heated burned out fan switchhappened twice cannot get fan to come on now.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer because the power windows were inoperative.upon inspection, a technician replaced the console because it was blowing the fuse in the electrical system.the fuse melted and smoke engulfed the passenger compartment of the vehicle when the engine was started.the vehicle has been to the dealer on four occasions and the console and connector were replaced.none of the repairs have corrected the failure.he called the manufacturer and was referred back to the dealer.the failure mileage was 38,284 and current mileage is 48,000.updated 02/05/09 updated 02/06/09.

The fire department took pictures on the night of the fire. There were no injuries and no damage to the home. The transmission would not come out of gear for the wrecker to tow it.

While driving to the gas station to get some gas the car died.after a two minute wait, we restarted the car with no problem..this did happen one other time two weeks before and it shut off approaching an intersection. There was plenty of fuel in the system.again, waited a minute and it restarted.i purchased this vehicle for my granddaughter as a gift on january 2014 from al serra north chevrolet used car lot.they offered safety inspection along with test drive.i just took it back to al serra chevrolet for a 90 daycomplimentary safety check with all fluids topped off.they said all was fine.i can bet the electronics was not even checked.i am afraid that my granddaughter is driving a very unsafe vehicle. The vehicle could stop in the middle of an intersection and with catastrophic effects. Request immediate action.

2003 kia sedona with approx 48,000 miles, parked and unoccupied in the parking area of my townhouse community.went to open the door remotely using the key ring and there was no response.eventually had to manually open the car andnoticed the entire left hand side of the instrument panel and dashboard area had literally melted into the floorboard.appears as if there was some kind ofelectrical short.vehicle was towed to bonneville kia and due to my extendedservice contract immediately set up a rental.the service rep at bonneville said he had not seen "anything like it" and was to call his factory rep and recommended i contact my auto insurance carrier to begin the claims process.the circumstances of this incident seem way to close to other complaints found on our webpage.clearly there is some kind of defect that kia needs to address.other thanservice for oil changes and tire rotation, only kia bonneville has performed maintenance on this vehicle.purchase date was dec 2003.

On the morning of 6/21/05, i double parked my car across the street from my home for street cleaning.i was inside my house @ 10 minutes when a neighbor told me there was smoke coming from my car.i went to the car and saw flames coming from under the area under the driver's side of the dashboard by the brake/gas pedals.called the fire department and the fire was put out.according to the claims investigator and the body shop the car is at, the fire came from the fuse box of the vehicle.i understand that several fires similar to this have started in other 2003 kia sedonas and wanted to report the situation.

I purchased my 2003 kia sedona in november 2005. So far the following have been repaired or replaced: front hub assembly left side once, right side 2x's, the alternator, the wiper motor, two recalls, the battery, now at 65,000 miles the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced and the timing belt has been replaced. However the warranty company says they wont replace it because the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the car. This is simply outrageous. I have brought the car to the dealer for every service needed. Transmission, oil filter ect.

I have a 2003 kia sedona and i have had nothing but issues.anywhere from having to replace the alternator, which i will say was a pain in the butt...to major issues with the brakes.from reading many different sites this is not an uncommon issue!!!!!!!!!!!!it is just so frustrating that you purchase a van because they say it is great then you get this piece of junk.the sad thing is most people who own these are young couples with children and can not afford the repairs but have to pay for them and we are stuck with theses trash boxes because we have children and can not afford to go out and trade it in, lose our butts because they are not worth the money we owe on them.i can not afford to keep fixing this heap of junk but i am stuck with it.i hope that something gets done with these...they are worthless and my children are paying for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i have not had a vehicle so bad in my life...i am tired of replacing the brakes, routers, and now the calipers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had gone to lunch and stopped by the grocery store first and then went by the gas station for a moment.when i came out, i got into my van and it would not crank.no warning, no prior trouble, noises, slow crank, nothing. It would not even attempt to crank.i had to walk back to work.later that evening, my father came to look at it and we assumed it was a dead battery.we replaced the battery and the battery light as well as the break light remained on.my father suspected the alternator.we called the kia dealership and they told us there had been a recall on alternators, but as usual, our vin number did not show up as one recalled.$400.00 later, i am wondering why our vehicle was not on the recall list.we have spent nearly $2,000 on "warranty maintenance" just to make sure nothing goes wrong and if it does it should be covered.unfortunately for us, we spent well over $1500.00 on our 60,000 mile maintenance to insure the warranty stays in affect just 3 months ago.of course, we are told now that the alternator is not covered after 60,000 miles.why am i paying so much money if nothing is going to be covered.

Our sedona has been unreliable from 15,000 miles on.i loose sleep over the fact that my wife and children are in this vehicle every day to get to and from school and other daily activities and errands.it is back in for service for the same re-occurring problem - a shot alternator.this is the fourth time this component has been damaged, twice before damaging the battery as well.i pride myself in keeping our vehicles serviced nearly to the recommended schedule, but this minivan is just not a quality built.i have read of other complaints, and similarly our minivan also bucks when idle at a traffic light, it bucks when traveling under 40 mph, and the air conditioning units are as load as an industrial type fan.

On september 30, 2004 at approximately 6:00 p.m. My husband and son were scheduled to attend a meeting. As they approached our vehicle parked in the driveway, my husband noticed that the automatic key did not open the vehicle. He tried several times and finally manually unlocked the door. When he opened the door he noticed that the steering column, dash board and driver's door were damaged by fire and melted plastic damaged the carpet. The windows and interior were covered in residue from the smoke. We immediately contacted the kia dealership and reported the incident and had the vehicle towed to southpoint kia where we purchased the vehicle. We received a slow response for getting a replacement vehicle and was told several days later that we would need to cover the rental vehicle until they determined the cause of the fire. I was told to report the claim to my insurance company state farm. State farm determined that the damage was caused by a "right seat switch - electrical problem." as of today, we have not received the status of this claim or the cause of the damage from kia engineers. It appears that they are not honoring their 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. Our vehicle was purchased september, 2003.

I purchased a 2003 kia sedona van from speedway kia in march of 2003. One of the reasons i choose this van was due to the 5 star safety rating.on may 26th of 2004, i was driving my van from tampa fl to port orange fl on i-4 and i started smelling an electrical burning smell.i pulled off the highway, looked under the hood but could not see anything burning.i got back on the highway and continued east towards daytona beach.when i got off the port orange exit on 95, i smoke started pouring out from under my hood, i drove about a mile to my home.i then opened the hood and the insulation under my hood was on fire. My husband put out the fire, and smoke continued to come out of the vent behind the engine. At that point, my husband disconnected the battery to remove the power source because it smelled like and electrical fire, the smoke eventually stopped. Kia picked it up the next day, the van was at speedway kia for one week.no one at kia was able to tell what caused the fire, the only thing they could tell was that the insulation was burned.i picked my van up one week after dropping it off and nothing was done to it.i will never again be able to confidently travel in the van with my family because the manufacturer was unable to tell why it caught on fire and fix it.so much for the 10 year/ 100,000 mile warranty.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. While the vehicle was parked, smoke appeared under the driver side dashboard. The contact was able to clear out the smoke and noticed that the fuse box caught fire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 128,000.

While parked for two minuets vehicle caught on fire under thedashboard.

I have been experiencing ongoing electrical problems with the dashboard lights going out.it is very dangerous at night because you cant see the speedometer and the car is very dark on the inside. I have taken my vehicle in over 5 times for repair and it's still not working.this has been an on-going problem with the electrical system (dash board lights).twice they said it was the fuse which they replaced both times.within three days of repair the lights were out again on both instances. The third time they said the electrical wiring was loose.they fixed the wiring but approximately two weeks later the lights went out again. I took it back for repair and they said the wiring was loose again and they fixed it.again, the lights went out.i took the vehicle back to the dealership where i purchased it and they stated that the ignition switch was bad so they replaced it.this time the lights stayed on about a month and now it's out again.

I purchased the vehicle used. It drove just fine for the first several months, but eventually it would start sputtering like it was out of gas when it actually had gas in the vehicle. Eventually, it came to a point when it would run when it wanted to and stall when it wanted to. I took it to a service station to get it fixed and they could not recreate the problem to fix it. They gave me a couple of options what it could be, but told me that they were only 75% sure and it was going to cost nearly $1000 to fix. Well, i didn't have $1000 to fix some parts that they are only 75% sure about. I continued to drive it in town and it continued to stall and drive as it pleased. At this point, it acts like it wants to turnover, but won't start. I have researched and found that i am not the only person with this vehicle problem. Can't something be done?

I bought a 2003 sedona used in 2007 with about 50000 miles and have nothing but problems ever since. 1st in 7/08 i went to a local shop (not kia) because my engine seemed very loud. The mechanic told me i needed new motor mounts n that it was kind of unusual for a car to need them so soon. I did call kia n ask them about this and was basically told to bad for you. So i had them fixed ($556.36). Not even a few weeks later my ac was blowing hot. Same mechanic told me my ac was out n that one of the hoses needed replaced. Had to wait a few years but had it replaced ($1050.72). Had my 1st brake job done in 2008 ever since i've had to have my brakes replace 2-3 yearly plus had to have new calipers.no one can tell me way the breakpads wear out so quickly. I dont drive a unusual amount. I've had to replace 2 interior door handle and now have a broken exterior handle. My air bag light stays on while i drive which scares me reading others airbag stories. When i try to fill my car with gas the pump will click off after a dollar or 2 like its full but its not. And just a week or so ago i was ob the highway with the cruuse control on all of a sudden i smelt this overpowering smell of gas. I pulled over and checked but didnt see anything wrong. Continued driving again smelled gas tried turning off the ac didnt help. Tried turning off the cruise control the smell instantly stopped. I hope that something can b done to help me and the others with kias. I have some of my repair paperwork. If you have questions for me please call me.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. The contact noticed that the vehicle was abnormally loosing coolant fluid. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the failure was diagnosed as a corroded heater cooling pipe. The dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 57,500.

2003 kia sedona ex caught on fire 07/11/10.vehicle was parked for more than an hour and not running.resultant vehicle destroyed and surrounding vehicles had melted components, driver side mirrors, roof rack, bumpers, headlights and cracked windshield due to explosion and launch of a reach strut.

At approximately 55,000 miles my kia sedona van had a broken engine mount.now, at approximately 65,000 the van has an additional two broken engine mounts -- that is a total of three broken engine mounts in only 65,000 mile's!!this is incredibly dangerous -- and this shouldn't happen with this frequency, if at all!!

I have taken my father's 2003 kia sedona to napleton kia in elmhurst several times for loss of engine power when the air conditioner is turned on and the radiator fans being on constantly when the outside temp reaches 80 degrees or more also when air conditioner is on. This was never a problem when my father first bought this vehicle but the dealer says it's necessary for the fans to be on when the air is turned on to protect the engine from overheating. I believe that up to a certain point but the fans never turn off when the air is on. I have a problem with that logic. Another problem is the vehicle sometimes bucks and backfires for no apparent reason. It's fine one minute and bad the next this occurs a least once a month, then it's fine like nothing ever happened, until next month. The dealer my dad takes it to seems like they are not interested in getting to the problems this vehicle has, but waiting until some other problem occurs like a check engine light comes on, then maybe they'll spend some time on it. But the vehicle comes out of the dealership fine but within a day or two it's the same old problems. My dad feels like he's wasting his time trying to explain the problems to the dealership because they may seem interested but have no incentive to find the real reason these problems occur in the first place. They either don't know or don't care. I'm beginning to think that the mechanics don't know and the dealership doesn't care.

2003 kia sedona has problems with abs system, stalling and abs light flashing on the dashboard.***no answer required***. *mrthe abs light flashed when it rained on when the roads were wet. The dealer was unable to duplicate the consumers concerns.

Motor needs to be replaced with just 39,000 miles on the van and just 4 years old. Service dept. Will not cover this.

I've hada number of problems with my 2003 kia sedona. Initially one of the gaskets leaked and had to n be replaced. The windshield cracked overnight in the garage when there was no weather extremes. The wheel bearings went in the front tire. Recently the engine had to be replaced because it was leaking and after replacing all the gaskets it couldn't get pressure. The driver's door handle broke, the lumbar support stopped working. The hood wouldn't close properly. And on top of all those things i've had 2 blowouts to the front driver's tire in a 2 year period. The dealer says there is nothing wrong with the wheel but i'm not sure he even checked because of theengine problems he had to deal with.

2003 kia sedona ran great for the 3 years we owned it. Went to go home from work and it made a loud noise and the motor shut off. Had a very hard time pulling over. Now it wont turn over at all. Not even with a jump. Checked oils ,water , battery, cables and everything appeared good. Regular oil changes and maintenance was done . All fluids were checked on a regular basis. Paid $11,000.00 for it and it didn't even out last the payments on it.

2003 kia sedona -mileage on this van 48,1771. Steering stiffness, make it hard to turn about 90% of the time while driving.2. Rough engine - missed fire due to the coil leakage and about started about 6-8 months ago.

In my kia sedona minivan ihad purchased brand new only because of the warranty i took kids to school oil light came on and when i tried to crank back no.they towed to the local kia dealership and the said it was not warrantable.

While driving at 30 mph smoke was coming from under the hood.the consumer pulled over, popped the hood, and noticed fire on top of the engine.*scc

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. While the contact was having her vehicle serviced, she was informed by a local mechanic that the engine was making a lower end noise and that a screw was missing on the throttle body. The dealer informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 91,000.

Oil sludge is building up in the engine. The oil has been changed as required and the engine flushed to no avail. Antwerpen kia dealership is refusing to honor the vehicle warranty and repair or replace the engine.

Consumer states that there is a strong odor of gas inside the cab of vehicle. Consumer feels the odor has caused drowsiness, almost resulting in losing control of vehicle.

Overwhelming smell of gas in the vehicle when running the air conditioner. Dealer identified issue as purging of charcoal canister incorrectly. The purging was redirected to rear of vehicle, but still is an issue when parking in the garage and smell of gas is still overwhelming. Is this a fire hazard? *ph

Dad: a noise was coming from the muffler/engine.this happened at speeds of35-45 mph and in hot weather, and when the air conditioner was on.the problem first started onseptember 24, 2004.when the consumer took vehicleto a dealership for repairsthey could notfind the cause of the problem.

In early september, the air conditioning on our new 2003 kia sedona ex went out.we took it into the dealership and they said a rock had hit the condenser unit and drained the freon. This unit sits unprotected in front of the air intake.the service manager claimed this was a common problem that many had experienced.he said it would cost $850 to repair and that we should place a protective screen around the unit so it didn't happen again!i sent a letter on sept. 16th to mr. Geoff bedine, the president of the dealership, but received no response.on october 8th, i stopped by the dealership, but he was not in.the sales associate, michelle wilson, suggested i fax a copy of the letter to her and she would give it to him.i went home and did just that, and called to make sure she received it.she did.however, still no response as of nov. 22nd!on nov. 13th, i went to the kia website and filed case#242983 with their consumer assistance division.i received a call from ms. Bea underwood on nov. 20th, but she said a regional director claimed this was an insurance issue and not a warranty claim, so they would not do anything for me.i consider this an engineering design defect and feel it is kia's responsibility.however, what can i do now?thanks for your help on this!*la

A/c compressor and hoses vibrate thru dash causing irritating moan.dlr replaced compr, but no change.kept van a day to dampen vibration.only half fixed.could be another bad compressor.

I have a kia sedona van with approximately 65,000 miles.it has had numerous headlights bulbs that have had to be replaced.in an attempt to prevent this, the dealership has even replaced the entire headlight.the last time a bulb burned out the dealership replaced both bulbs even though only one bulb burned out.the rational for replacing both bulbs was that all of the current was diverted to the headlight that wasn't burned out, hence it shortened the life of the bulb that was working.however, six weeks later a new bulb was already burned out.as i understand from talking with representatives at my dealership, this is a common occurance with the kia van.i have had this problem twice when travelling out of state -- once when it was foggy and both times at night.it is very dangerous to have a car lose a headlight out-of-the blue at night when traveling on unfamiliar roads.plus, this is becoming expensive!

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.when the left turn signal was activated, the signal switch remained engaged until it was manually disengaged.the right turn signal operated normally.the contact believed that the left turn signal failed because it does not operate the same as the right signal.the dealer stated that the failure was actually a standard feature of the vehicle.the powertrain was unknown.the failure mileage was 51,000 and current mileage was 53,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.while driving at any speed in warm temperatures above 80 degrees, the contact smells raw gas as if someone poured gasoline in the vehicle.the smell causes him to become physically ill.kia was aware of the failure and unsuccessfully attempted to correct the issue.they stated that nothing could be done.when kia had a technician inspect the vehicle, he stated that the vehicle performed in this manner and provided case number t1472689.kia consumer affairs also provided case number k1473088.the current mileage was 61,000 and failure mileage was 26,000.

While driving the consumer began to smell fuel.please provide any additional information.

Excessive fuel consumption.10.8 mpg. Kia performed a test with a scan tool and said the readings were within specifications.that was back in march.since then my fuel efficiency increased to 11.7 mpg.i'll be taking it back soon for another test.i've encountered several people on the road with the same complaint, but apparently they have not filed a complaint yet.can anyone investigate this issue and call me back.it appears that the money i saved by purchasing this vehicle, in comparison to other minivans with similar features,i'll be throwing away in gas. Thank you sincerely.*la

Dt*: the contact stated the gas storage tank rusted out causing the fuel filter to clog.the service dealer determined the vehicle needed a new storage tank and filter to correct the issue.updated 02/06/07.

Only 260 miles on vehicle and check engine light came on.dealer stated check gas cap.stated it needs to "click" 3 times to tighten and seal.have performed task repeatedly with no change.while standing outside of vehicle, with vehicle running, can hear air sucking in through gas fill area.never had that happen on any other vehicle owned.noticed flapper valve at top of gas fill area is creased and does not seal like other manufacturers vehicles.worried that this air problem will cause future engine problems.

I've had many problems with my 2003 kia sedona.the emergency brake has never been right. The brakes were replaced at 13k miles, again at 24k miles(front & back) and i'm sure they need to be replaced again at 40k miles. At 22k miles i took the van to the shop for brakes only to be told that both wheel bearings, the left strut (they refused to replace both struts since it was warranty but if i was paying for the repairs they would recomend replacing in pairs)and the power steering pump was going out (which the manager said he was doing me a favor by telling me about).i have also complained of the a/c taking forever to cool down, had a sensor replaced for the gas tank after the check engine light came on and service to the drivers seatbelt. Then yesterday during a storm i went through a puddle about 4 or 5 inches deep which splashed water on my van for a couple of seconds and about 50 feet down the road the van died and could not be restarted. Upon having it towed to the kia dealer i was told that my airfilter had gotten wet and that there was "dish soap" in my airfilter which would be considered customer damage and not covered by warranty. I also complained about more noises coming from the front and a grinding noise when i begin acceleration in low gears. They requested i make an appointment for service on those issues. In addition, i purchased this vehicle on 4/23/03, when i tried to file a complaint about my service on the wheel bearing, etcwith kia they had no record of me ever purchasing this van. Apparently in their minds my van was sold to someone else on 2/27/03. This means if there is ever a recal or service notice sent out i would not receive them. In addition they had my warranty expiration date set at 2/27/03.i spoke with several people concerning this issue and was assured that this would immediately be corrected, however yesterday when i called for assistance i was told that the van was still listed as being sold to another person.

I need your help to resolve a serious problem.i have nowhere else to turn.my daughter is the owner of a 2003 kia sedona.within a three month period, three of the door handles have fallen off this vehicle!after each handle fell off, she reported it to the local kia dealership.she learned that door handles were not covered and that she would have to pay $250.00 per door to have them repaired.the cost to repair this vehicle is now $750.00.kia does not consider defective door handles a safety issue so there has never been a recall.i believe that this is most certainly a safety issue.if my family was involved in an accident, my four little grandchildren would be trapped inside this vehicle.since i began researching this problem on the internet, i learned that there are many people who have experienced this same problem with their kia sedona van.their complaints are the same'door handles that have fallen off and kia refusing to fix them.this is obviously a manufacturer defeat.i know many people who own antique vehicles'all their vehicles still have their original door handles. I have never heard of door handles falling off a vehicle, let alone three! i contacted both our local kia dealership and the kia corporation.the kia corporation of america's (800-333-4542) consumer affairs assistant sounded like a robot. She told me that this was not a recall item, the time for reporting a manufacturing defeat was over and that nothing would be done!she did say that if we wanted them to look at the vehicle we could bring it into the dealership, pay for diagnostics but they would still not pay to fix this problem.this is just throwing good money after bad!why would i pay them to tell me again they are not going to fix this vehicle? when i spoke to the kia dealership in st. Augustine, they were sympathetic, however, they cannot absorb the costs of the repair. Please help all these kia sedona owners with this serious problem.

- the contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.the contact stated that the handles on the rear passenger and driver side doors broke off of the vehicle.the handles were plastic.the doorswere unable to be opened because the child safety lock were on.the failure mileage was 74,500. The dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty.

Pin/latch on door handle breaks.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.the contact was unable to enter and exit the driver side door with her key or remote.the dealer informed her that they would have to break the door to repair the vehicle; however, they smashed the window instead.the door lock actuator was replaced on the driver side door.the remaining locks on the vehicle have not failed.the contact is aware of the safety risk involved.the fuel system was unknown.the approximate current and failure mileages were 120,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. The contact stated that while attempting to buckle the seat belt, the second row seat belt anchor cables snapped off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 124,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.the contact noticed that her child safety seat would inappropriately move within the driver's side middle row seat when it was restrained by the safety belt.the seat belt would not retract properly, which left the child vulnerable to serious injury in the event of a crash.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that she would have to replace the entire seat belt unit.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 61,000 and current mileage was 64,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. The contact stated that the seat belt on the passenger?s side third row seat seized and would not release the passenger. The seat belt had to be cut from around the passenger. In addition, the contact stated that the seat belt for the third row seat on the driver?s side recently failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the seat belt. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 100,000.updated 06/06/12the consumer has stated that only the first seat belt was replaced not the second. The airbag light its on. Updated 06/07/12

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.while driving various speeds, the contact noticed that the seat belt came apart and was not properly securing her child seat.the clip that enters the latch on the seat belt was the part that failed.she also noticed that the other seat belts in her vehicle were beginning to fail in the same manner.the dealer has not been notified.the failure mileage was 123,632.updated 03/12/09.*ljthe seat belt clip that held the seat belt when latched, broke off. It was the part that was attached to the actual seat. The inside wires were frayed. Updated 03/16/09.

Seat belts (female part) the piece that you snap the seat belt into, broke totally off all the way. Not 1 but 2 seat belts in my van has done this. And not only that the door handles broke off on the outside and inside. I've called kia to report these problems and they want me to pay for all this. Seems like the last thing that should brake (shouldn't brake at all!) is the seat belts! the door handles is one thing but the seat belts!

I have a 2003 kia sedona and my 8 year old daughter went to buckle her seat belt, 2nd row drivers side, and the buckle part came off the seat. Upon inspection i found that the buckle was broke in the middle of the steel cable that holds the buckle to the seat, there is the buckle, cable, then bolts that hold the buckle to the base of the seat . I contacted kia and was immediately told that it would be fixed at my expense since it was out of warranty. I was told that there were no recalls and there would be nothing they could or would do. I took the van to my dealer and they had never seen anything like it, they spoke to their district manager and were told the same thing, my expense. After the dealer visit i inspected the rest of the buckles only to find that the other 2nd row seat beltis wearing through the steel cable and the front passenger belt is broke through the wires and part of the steel cable.kia called this morning to inform me that they had spoke with the district manager and was told that the seat belt buckle failed due to wear and tear. The only people to look at the buckle were the service tech's and they just looked at, the manager never saw the buckle.i have an estimate of $401.64 for the repairs. I am the only owner and purchased the vehicle new, in november 2003, after my twins were 3 months old. I also had a daughter at the time that was 6. The only people to sit in those seats are children, now 9 and 15. The car seats, when needed, were secured with the tethers.is there anything that i can do? kia is being very short with me and don't seem to want to help meother than telling me there is no warranty.

I have had my 2003 kia sedona a little over 2 years.i bought it new from a dealer.since 2002, i have had problems with the front seat belt sensors, to the point both have had to be replaced.when this sensor does not operate properly, the "airbag needs servicing" light comes on.with that light on, the van will not pass inspection (va state inspection).the first time this happened, the dealership was out or stock of the replacement seatbelt assembly, but they gave me one from another car while we waited for my parts to come in.they never came in.now, the 2nd one has gone bad, and i am still waiting for a part.evidently, where the dearlership orders parts from kia is out of stock of these items due to high volume of replacement.i am (1) concerned that so many of these are going bad that the company has run out of stock, and (2) worried that failure of this sensor could result in my airbag not working properly.i have now been waiting over 4 months for the replacement parts, and they are still not available from the dealer.this item is not covered by warranty, and it does not appear to be a recall item.but shouldn't a safety item like that cause a recall since it involves personal safety and the passive restraint operation?and if that many are failing, doesn't that cause concern from the nhtsb?

I've had many problems with my 2003 kia sedona.the emergency brake has never been right. Dt on july 12th, 2005 the seat belt completely broke, it broke from the two metal prongs. Look like a mesh of wires that go down into the seat. When the consumer slammed on the brakes, her 5 yr hit the back of the seat which was on the rear drivers side. The other seats belts are all the same except for the rear center.the consumer contacted kia they are replacing the seat belt, however, they are not alarming the public.

Driver and front passenger seats gets regular use.bolt broke when second row passenger side seatback was released and folded forward for access to third row seating.the seat had not been used for the previous 2-3 weeks.seat is still in folded position.i am retired and cannot afford repair/replacement of seat.

One bolt holding the rear seat back of my 2003 kia sedona to the seat base has sheared off and broken on both of my rear seats. This issue occurred at occurred at sometime past 124,000 miles of vehicle use. The problem was noticed when the folded seat backs were put into the upright position and the seat back would not lock into place, but instead moved both up and down and forward and backward on one side while the other side was locked in place in the upright position. The problem was then verified by removing the plastic cover on the side of the seat hinge assembly and visually looking at the sheared off bolts. Both rear seats have exactly the same problem. The problem occurred on the side closest to the outside of the vehicle. For the drivers side rear seat the shearing took place on the side closest to the exterior of the vehicle (the left side as you face the rear of this seat).and on the passenger side rear seat the shearing took place on the side closest to the exterior side of the seat. This is a significant safety concern since our children could have experienced significant injury if the vehicle had been in an accident prior to discovery of the problem. The fact that not one but two bolts were sheared off on two separate seats is also very troubling. The bolts are holding on both rear seat backs are scheduled to be replaced on june 23, 2009 if the dealership has the parts. It is unclear whether the dealership will cover these repairs under the product warranty due to mileage on the vehicle even though it is a safety issue.

7 year old child sat in 3rd row passenger side seat and the seat back collapsed backwards.when we took the seat out we noted that the bolts that hold the seat back to the base seat had sheared off of both sides.this seat has normal use and this should not have happened especially without unusual force being applied to the seatback.

The bolts in all of the seats continued to become loose. The back of the seat continued to fall backwards or forwards. The front suspension always has to be tightened when the consumer has the vehicle service..

A recall was performed on this sedona 2003 on february 12 2006, regarding power seats wiring( nhtsa campaign id number: 05v463000). On july 10, 2006 while driving smoke came out the front dash and suddenly a fire under driver wheel(gear) right next to my wife's left leg. Drivers windows was down because of the heavy smoke prior to the fire starting, so when my wife stopped the sedona and noticed the flames near her legs she jumped on the drivers seats and since she was unable to unlock the door because of previous power failure due to the fire then she jumped through the windows and got out, somebody else put out the fire quickly with a fire extinguisher but he used the key to open the door because there was not other way to open that door. Also, needed to investigate why the door did not opened at that time when a fire going on. Road assistance came in to pick up the sedona, then was taken down to motorambar, inc. Authorized kia dealer in puerto rico for inspection and to get a certified diagnostics on how and why this happened. I was told by service advisor supervisor that this was the first sedona that caught on fire with no electrical installations other than what it came originally when i purchased the unit.they were going to let kia motors engineers know about it so they can come down and perform and investigation on why this happened and how the fire start and when that happened, they will contact me so i can be present when they do the inspection and certification, but this never happened, i really don't know if it was a lack of interest from kia motors or that kia motors were not notified about it. It has been more than six months and the sedona is still there getting rusty. At this time they do not know why the vehicle caught on fire.

The center seats in the kia sedona are the reclining type and when you try to put it up-right the back of the seat slams up and the whole seat shoots forward as happen to my daughter (9 yrs old). I pointed this out to the dealer and was told by him sitting in the seat that he had no problem, then again he is a grown men with a bit weight and not a 9 yr old whose feet to do not touch the floor when sitting in that seat. We were lucky that the vehicle was at stand still when this occurred. All i asked her to do was put the seat up-right which she had reclined to read. End result was the seat slammed her into the (my) seat and had her trapped, had we been moving, what then ????????

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and shut off the front passenger side seat had experienced a fire and melted. The contact discovered smoke and soot present inside the vehicle and a burn hole in the passenger seat. No police report was taken. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer rock river kia (226 north alpine rd.rockford il) where the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact indicated that the front driver side seat had later also experienced burning. The failure mileage was unknown.

I hurt my back trying to remove the "removable" rear seats in my 2003 kia sedona. The seats are not only very heavy, but the rearward jerking motion recommended by my dealer to remove the seat often fails to disengage the seat, causing back injury. My dealer told me the specific seats i have are not broken, but they agreed that kia's design for removal is flawed. On the recommendation of my dealer service consultant yves fernandez (321-951-9595), i spoke with "elvina" at kia customer service directly (2/14/2003 800-333-4542). Elvina refused to help me in any way. Specifically, she also refused to acknowledge my complaint in writing. These seats are dangerous and should be fixed to make them saferand easier to remove. Can you please help me with this? *nlm

While driving and when making a sudden stop or turn second row seat slid forward or backward, not locking in place when places in the fold down position.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. While driving 35 mph, the brake pedal seized halfway down when it was depressed. As a result, the contact swerved onto the sidewalk and stopped 30 yards in a parking lot. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the electric computer braking module did not allow the brakes to stop completely; therefore, the computer reacted as if the vehicle were traveling on ice. The dealer (moritz kia hurst, 110 ne loop 820, hurst, tx 76053, (817) 591-7063) stated that there was no recall for the failure. The manufacturer stated that they would have the dealer inspect the vehicle for free. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 115,800.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. The contact stated that when driving approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the front driver side brake failed to respond without warning. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the abs system failed to allow brake fluid to run through. In addition, the outlet valve became stuck in the lock position and the abs unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.ma 10/22/2015updated 9/27/2017

Abs light on front brakes on drivers side not working right

When braking at speeds over 45 mph the vehicle shutters and vibrates.felt like the rotor is warped, but the vehicle only has 12,000 miles.*la

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.while driving 25 mph, the vehicle failed to brake at a safe distance.the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times to replace the brake pads and the rotor.the dealer stated that the contact is driving the vehicle improperly and causing the brakes to wear out.the contact stated that the air bag indicator does not appear on the dashboard.the current mileage is 100,000 and failure mileage was 96,283.

Consumer complained about a brake problem.manufacturer issued a recall, but dealership was unaware of the recall and continued to sell these vehicles.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. She received a recall notice for the wheel bearings, brake lights, and the vehicle speed control. The dealer refused to honor her recall notice since the vin was not included. The contact provided the dealer with copies of the recall notice with her vehicle information listed and they declined to repair the recall. The manufacturer admitted that her vehicle is included in the recalls based upon the vin. The contact returned to the dealer; however, they did not honor the recall after confirming that she received approval from the manufacturer. She is currently responsible to assume the cost for repairs related to the recalls. The failure and current mileages were 79,291. The nhtsa campaign id number(s) are: 03v158000 , 05v013000 , 05v232000.

2003 kia sedona developed problems with the brake equipment.*mrthe consumer noticed loud noises and brake pedal fade when the brakes were applied.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on three different occasions but each time the problem persisted.

Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle experienced continuous brake problems.the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times who repaired or replaced the brakes and rotors every time problems reoccurred.the dealer determined that the problems were due to normal wear and tear although the vehicle's problems occurred 2 months after the vehicle was purchased.the manufacturer was contacted and would not state the cause of the problem.the contact believes that the problems are a manufacturer defect.

While driving at 55 mph there was a loud noise, like a motorcycle, coming from right brakeonpassenger's side. Dealer had inspectedvehicle and could not duplicate or correct the problem.

While driving 45 mphbrakes failed.

Hoses, lines corroded leaking coolant all over the garage and car overheating only 4 years old.break lines in rear very corroded and ready to fail. Replace asap, mechanic says.

When applying the brakes fromlow speeds, the pedal intermittently went to the floor. As a result extended stopping distance occurred.kia replaced the brakes and the consumer had not experienced a brake problem since. *sc

2003 kia sedona has problems with abs system, stalling and abs light flashing on the dashboard.***no answer required***. *mrthe abs light flashed when it rained on when the roads were wet. The dealer was unable to duplicate the consumers concerns.

Brakes failed in an accident and the air bag did not deploy.when the consumer attempted to apply the brakes because the vehicle in front of him was a t a stop, the brakes locked up and the vehicle went into a skid. The consumer received the vehicle back and was told there was nothing wrong with the brakes, however over the next few months he continued to experience brake problems every so often. The dealer kept the vehicle for a few days and they replaced the wheel cylinder and the rotors which were warped.the consumer then received a recall notice regarding the brakes and took the vehicle back to the dealer who stated it would take a few hours to fix.since the recall repair was complete the consumer has not experienced anymore brake problems.

When brakes are appliedat 55 mph vehicle shutters andsouds like brakes are under a lot of pressure.

While driving at any speed consumer feltsevere vibration in the steering wheel and the brake pedal.dealer claimed that the brake rotorsoverheated, causing them to warp.

We've had many problems w/ kia sedona.the biggesthas been brakes/rotors.we noticed a loud grinding noise & vibration not even a year after we got it, especially when going downhill.contacted dealer & they replaced the rotors at 13,000 miles.not even 4,000 miles later they were back in the same condition.took the van to a brake service center (not the dealer) to have the brake pads changed & was told the rotors were warped.i explained to the man what we had been through & he felt strongly that it was a defect.contacted our dealer again and took the van in.was not even there 10 minutes, they did not want to hear it!would not do anything for us! so far, we are told we can only purchase rotors directly from the manuf. & so far, the rotors that have been on this van from the manuf. Have not been good!i've talked to several other kia sedona owners & they have expressed the same problem with their vehicle!! we are sorry for trying a kia!the airbag light came on approx. 3 wks ago and stays on all the time that the van is on!i took it in for service and was told there's a defect in the passenger side seat belt buckle but they had none in stock so had to order it.was told that the airbag probably would not deploy if we're in an accident but they did not seem to mind letting us drive around like that for an undetermined amount of time.said they would send a card in the mail when they get the part in!the passenger's side window started not working!about every other day it would just stop!i told the service dept about this at the same time i took the van in for the airbag light & was told, well its not doing it right now so we can't do anything about it!the window is still giving us problems but about every day now instead of every other!we've tried to trade this vehicle in a few times & we can only getabout half of what we owe on it!we were even told about a week ago that there are major problems with the clearcoat on it!

There has been an ongoing (since dec. 2003)problem of a "thudding" noise from the front suspension. The dealer has acknowledged the noise repeatedly. The service rep states that kia motors is aware of the noise but does not have a solution. He also said that the dealership gets new '05 sedonas off the delivery trucks with the same problem!no solution has been offered other than "well, it's not going to hurt anything or break down and leave you stranded." but come on, a bumping, thudding noise from a vehichle with 20k miles.....or a brand new vehichle?!? something has got to be done to fix this .

Vehicle occasionally idled on its own while the on the road and increased the speed.driver had to apply the brakes several times in order to stop vehicle. Taken todealer for testing, but the cause was undetermined.

I received a recall letter dated 04/04/05 stating that the throttle may freeze in my 2003 kia sedona. I immediately called my dealer and was told that the dealership was short handed and someone would get back to me.i also called the kia consumer assistance center and left a message on 04/26/05 and still no response.our kia sedona account is under my husbands name, donald a dudley.he is an over the road truck driver and is away from home alot.my complaint is that no one seems to be listening to me or wanting to answer my questions.i am getting a major brush off from the dealership i purchased the van from and from their consumer assistance center.

While backing into a parking space vehicle hit a metal pole. Consumer shifted the transmission into drive with her foot on the brake.vehicle commenced to accelerate and lurch forward. Itran over a concrete parking divider and a sidewalk into a brick wall. Consumer was transported to the local hospital by ambulance.vehicle was towed to a repair shop.

The speedometer would read the wrong speed intermittently. Please provide more information.

Dt: the consumer stated that 2003 kia sedonaaccelerated by itself while sitting at a stop sign. The engine accelerated when the consumer hadfoot on the brake. The car had never done this before. The car traveled a couple of feet and there was a near miss by other vehicles. Theconsumer contacted the dealer and was waitingfor on an appointment to take the vehicle in for service. Theconsumer has not contacted kia at this point. Hesuggested that on one knew what would make the vehicle do this. The car accelerated by itself 6 times in the same day, and the consumer hadfoot on the brake all 6 times. The consumer consulted the owner'smanual and looked at the engine ,and the engine size was describedas 3500.

While driving approximately 50 mph vehicle would suddenly accelerate. Had applied the brakes to stop vehicle. Managed to pull to side of road and stop. Restarted vehcle, and took it to dealership. Mechanic indicated could not locate cause of acceleration.

The accelerator pedal became stuck.scc

2003 kia sedona ex, 29 apr 2004 sudden acceleration.while driving my kia sedona, i was coming onto the on-ramp on i-95, exit 130 (fredericksburg, va).i was accelerating slowly onto the highway and had gained speed of about 40 mph, when the pedal suddenly dropped to the floorboard.the engine went to full-throttle, and we began to accelerate uncontrollably.i applied the brakes fully, but the engine continued to rev higher.we continued to accelerate.the cruise control was not on, and i was unable to slow the vehicle down by applying brakes.i then put the van in neutral, and pressed the brakes with a great amount of force, until we slowly decelerated.i shut the engine off, and we coasted into the side of the road, nearly hitting an oncoming bus that was entering behind us on the highway.we were able to make it home, but on 30 apr 2004, the next morning, i attempted to start up the van to take it to the dealership, and while in park, the van went to full-throttle again, so i called a tow-truck.the kia dealership in fredericksburg, va (540)891-7400 now has the vehicle, and they have not reported to me any damages.

Consumer received recall notice on 2003 kia sedona's accelerator cable (05v-239). Dealer did not have the parts to correct the recall.

2003 kia sedona accelerates without warning when the speed (cruise) control is enabled, but not activated (set button has not been pushed).this is not the known cable freezing problem, since we live in florida.this is a safety problem if in traffic and can't react fast enough to hit the brakes before impacting a car in front.dealer could not duplicate problem after a short drive and nothing was done.

The cruise control will not work at certain times and this has been going on for at least 6 or 7 months and is still happening. Dealer replaced cruise switch but that did not work, it still is doing the same thing.went back to dealer and they said they could not doing anything about it until they see it happening.this is a problem because it does it when it feels like doing it and i cannot get it to the dealer when it is happening.

When applying the brakes, the accelerator sticks and auto acts as if both pedals are being pressed at same time.this has happened about 20 times since purchasing the auto on 5/31/03.on 2/12/05 i came to a stop and the auto was idling so fast that it was roaring and inching forward when i had my foot on the brake as hard as i could.on 2/11/05 this condition occurred for a short period of time.car has been idling extremely fast without pressure on the gas pedal.i had the car towed in by kia roadside service but was told that if they could not create the problem they could do nothing about it.what do i have to do, kill myself before they take care of this problem?if i had let off the brake today i could have ended across a street, down a hill, and into the side of a building.kia did tow my car to the dealership but i'm not satisfied unless they find the problem and fix it since i have complained about this since day one buying the car.i drove it about 3 miles after buying it and had to go thru a red light and around a corner into a main thoroughfare before i got the car stopped.took it back to the dealer and was told that i was hitting the gas pedal and the accelerator at the same time.now, 30,000 miles later and 20 incidents later i am still having the same problem.everytime i have had the car in for other service i have mentioned this problem and been told "bring it in when it is doing it".if i am 40 miles away, this does not work.what do i do????

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona.the contact noticed that the windshield was cracked in the middle of the dashboard towards the bottom.the failure was not a result of normal wear and tear.when a sharp turn was made, the contact heard a cracking noise similar to metal rubbing against metal.he believed that the failure originated from the glass frame.the dealer and manufacturer have not been notified.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was approximately 45,000 and failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

Driver's window regulator broke.dealer replaced under warranty.

Power locks failed without warning. Dealer states an electrical short occurred.

The back right wheel came off of our 2003kia sedona van. My wife heard a loud noise as she was driving down the road. She applied the brakes but the car had difficulty stopping. She managed to pull the van over to the side of the road. When the tow truck came, it pulled the van about a foot before the entire right rear wheel came off. Had she been traveling on the highway, she and my 3 children might not have survived the incident.

Rear wheel bearing freezing up making tire come off

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. While driving at approximately 20 mph, a loud noise was heard coming from the front wheels. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the front passenger side wheel bearing and hub cap were replaced. The failure recurred on each wheel on the vehicle and a second time on the front passenger side. Each repair was performed by an authorized dealer. The contact inquired with the manufacturer about nhtsa campaign id number: 05v232000 (wheels) however the manufacturer advised his vin was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 132,000.

In july of 2006, while on vacation, we noticed a lug nut missing from the right front wheel, and one next to it was finger loose.(new tires were put on in february 2006).i replaced these at the next exit.took van to kia dealer the next week, they replaced with oem lug nuts.the following week, i noticed a lug nut was missing again from the same wheel.took to kia, they replaced.2 weeks later, i noticed a lug nut missing from same tire again.took to kia to be replaced and they said they didn't know why they kept falling off, had not seen this before.2 months passed, and i tried to rotate my tires in early oct.one stud snapped off, and another seized up, if i tried to get it off, it would have snapped off also.took it to the dealer today, they replaced 2 studs and the 2 lug nuts.again, no ideas as to why this is occurring.i'm afraid there is something wrong with the wheel studs / wheel assembly, which may result in a wheel separation while driving, resulting in serious injury to passengers/other people, and serious damage to vehicles.i think this should be investigated before someone gets injured/killed.
