Before the incident there were issues with the rear captain chairs seat belt latch when trying to buckle them. I have three small children under the age of 3 years of age and it is very important and crucial that seat belts are in working order without issues for the safety of their well being. Before the incident the seats themselves in the rear rows had issues latching as well when being installed. On august 18, 2015 myself and three small children were in a severe high impact accident and none of the airbags had gone off like they never existed. My kids and i suffer from seat belt abrasions and i suffer from bruising in multiple places from my head down, shoulder pain and back issues. Police, paramedic's, collision center, witnesses, and my insurance company were all notified or had notified about the airbags. Apparently, my seat which was the driver seat was also completely snapped off as well. Updated 08/26/15

We own a 2002 kia sedona minivan. We bought it new in october of 2002. Since 04/03 we have had to return the car for airbag/seatbelt fault indications four times. In every case the front seat belt buckle sensors have been found to be defective.the dealer mechanic has told us that the air bags would not deploy withthis fault indication. With each failure they have had to wait for back ordered parts, and the mechanic says this is a common fault with theses cars. Since they are always waiting for parts to repair this defect, it leads me to believe that there is indeed a widespread problem of this nature. In researchuing past problems on your web site iit seems that air bag/ seatbelt problems are a recurrent kia defect. This is an apparant engineering design defect that puts owners of these vehicles at serious risk. Seatbelts and air bags are a federally mandated safety feature that consumers should have confidence that they will work when needed. Our car is now past it's milage warrenty and now kia insists that we pay for the reoccuring repairs to this important safety system. Consumers should not have to subsidise kia's failure prone system

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph and crashed into the rear another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact suffered head, neck and back injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and a police report was filed at the scene. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The failure mileage was 92,000.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The contact was driving 45 mph when the driver and passenger side air bags deployed independently.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer, but the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.

We have a 2002 sedona.we have owned it for 2 years. And this is the 7th time the airbag light has come on and stayed on.evey time we take it in they replace something, once was the seat belt latch, another time was a part in the computer and so on.they just don't know what is causing it to come on, so they tell me.that is such a reassuring answer for a car owner.we have also had problems with the battery, hatchback not opening and having dents in it from when we shut it and break problems that they refussed to fix until after the warrenty expired.it is time now for an attorney to step in for us.

Dt*: the contact stated the air bag warning light illuminated shortly after the vehicle was started.previously, the vehicle was repaired under recall campaign #03v17000 regarding the seat belts.before the recall work was completed the air bag warning light was illuminated.once the repair was made the light went off.the contact is concerned the same seat belt problem has returned, but has not made an appointment with the dealer for inspection.

Driving home and a deer jumped out in front of my van and i hit the deer and totaled my van bad where the air bags should of went off but it didn't now there's a light on the dash that looks like a guy sitting in a seat with a belt on and an air bag in front of it.

Airbag light was illuminating intermittently - took to dealership for diagnostic in 2010. Kia dealership in turnersville said that light illuminating was normal and no issue. I recently had timing chain replaced by same dealership - different tech. This time they said that the light meant the airbags would not deploy in an accident! they said repairs would not be covered! i am furious.

Consumer was involved in a collision and the air bags failed to deploy.

The air bag did not deploy in our 2002 kia sedona.

Air bag lightwill come on and stay on, it has stayed on for about a month. Contacted dealer, and the dealer stated that they could not find the cause of the problem. Please provide further information.

While driving 50 mph vehicle was involved in a collision.upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy, and seat belt broke. According to the consumer the seat belt retractor did not lock during the event.driver sustained neck injuries during the rollover crash.the back seat had become dislodged during the accident.recall#03v135000. *sc

Back in 2003, theairbag light on my van came on and would not go away. It was under warranty. The problem was a defective passenger side seat belt buckle. That was replaced. Now in 2005 the airbag light came on and would not go away again. My warranty has expired, so i tried finding out what the problem was myself. It was the same passenger side seat belt buckle. The problem was a broken wire in the harness to the sensor. The cause was a metal clip that pinches the harness, and with the movement of putting the seat belt on and off, eventually leading to the wire breakage. That i fixed myself and airbag light went out. In 2006, the airbag light came back on and would not go out. The problem now is the driver side seat belt buckle, once again a broken wire at the clip. Once again my warranty has expired so i am going to fix it myself. This kind of problem can be fixed if the clips are removed, extending the life of the sensing unit. I am sure that there are many others with that same problem. I would like to see this defect fixed.

1) battery discharge occured during slow speed driving and hot conditions.vehicle stalled at intersection and was almost hit several times.2) service bulletin put out by kia calls for new alternator, with smaller pulley and ecm battery compensation3) kia technical service bulletin calls for a new alternator with smaller pulley (65mm ->55mm) and ecm battery compensation revised.

4 months ago my alternator went, taking with it my entire electrical system.after everything was fixed by the repair shop of my choice, the airbag light was still on and could not be reset because kia will not release the codes to do so.i took it to the dealer who inspected the vehicle and $90 later simply reset the codes to clear the light.now i find myself with the light on again, and my 2002 kia sedona at the dealership to find out why.of course, it cannot be as simple as the code needing to be reset, and i have been informed that there is a faulty sensor in the seatbelt mechanism that will need to be replaced.this will cost $200 + to have done.it is my understanding that this is a recurrent problem with kia sedonas and i cannot understand why it is not a recall item.my sister-in-law has had to replace theirs two times now, my father-in-law has had to replace his at least one time, and my sister-in-laws mother-in-law has had to replace hers at least twice.these are just family members, and i can only imagine how many other people are having this problem.on this site alone i have found several, not to mention other message boards showing the same complaints.at what point does a complaint like this get investigated to be recalled?this is a serious safety issue that needs to be taken care of and i implore you to investigate into this malfunction.thank you.updated 09/19/07

Re:kia sedona minivan [xxx] with about 58,300 miles.no prior problems of any kind. St complaint: on evening of friday, 12/31/04, a clunking/grinding sound from right side of my kia sedona at about 58,000 miles grabbed and seized the right axle.on 1/1/05 [sat] i drove car to local srvce cntr.on 1/3/05 [monday] srvc cntr diagnosed burnt/broken right axle wheel bearings.altho i told srvce cntr to do brake service on all 4 wheels but not wheel bearings, as i wanted that work to be done by my kia dealership - my local station replaced brake pads & rims and honed rotors and replaced front right axle wheel bearings. Tow service to kia dealership was cancelled by me as a result. 2nd complaint: on wed, 1/5/05, i drove daughter at 6:45 a.m. From bronx to her laguardia hs in manhattan. Noticed that car radio and head lights flicked on & off while drivingfor minutes at a time. Later in day, i drove to brooklyn's 99 street cleaners to pick up my military field coat at 3:20 p.m. Minivan parked but engine would not turn over & start.used auxiliary battery pack [abp] to start engine and entered bqexpressway. Crossing brooklyn bridge to manhattan, engine died. Used abp to start engine and entered fdr drive up manhattan to home.car engine died 3 more times. After 4 stalls and re-starts with abp, i kept abp connected to vehicle battery and, with all lights off in darkness from 4:30 p.m.-5:45 p.m., in slow rush hour traffic, the abp kept car alive till arrival at local srvce cntr.all fuses checked okay while car battery recharged.diagnosis made that alternator and/or regulator not working.have phoned kia tow service for pick up to dealership. Vehicle has about 58,300 miles on it.nb: i am very satisifed with kia customer service and kia tow service, whom i telephoned on 1/3/05 [and then cancelled tow] and today on 1/6/05.updated 07/24/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The contact stated that on an intermittent basis the engine warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer whoinformed her that there was a loose wire. The vehicle was repaired; however, it currently will not start and she noticed that the heating warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that all of the wires had melted, but they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. The current mileage wasapproximately 73,000.

The consumer states that the vehicle stalls.on one occasion the vehicle was moved in the street with traffic flow, and the vehicle shut down.a vehicle had continued moving and slightly scraped the rear of the consumer's vehicle.the engine light had come on.the vehicle was taken to a shop for repairs and after installing a new battery, the alternator doesn't crank.*scc

Too many problems to list, complete lemon

When the electric lock is used on the kia sedona it disables the following: electric windows, dash lights (all) interior dome lights and tail lights license plate light and all parking lights are lost.after setting overnight the systems come back on line so far.however if someone hits the locks and it is at night, all the light that another driver would see from the rear are out.the driver can not see any instruments at all.and any windows that were open will not change position.we took it to kia they said a relay was missing.however the entire prescribed set of relays were in place, they also said the fuse block was melted, and it had to be ordered, they returned the car to my wife and she drove it home again.they provide a picture of what was ordered.i looked at the car and there wasn't any relay missing and if the fuse / relay was melted it was not apparent from the installed condition.there was not evidence that anything was removed (all bolts and installation hardware was still intact and dirty and no finger prints were present)we are waiting on the part delivery.this car was not safe to drive yet kia did not give any thought to releasing it to my wife to drive.we have parked it until the part comes in.the failure has happened every time the locks are used over the last week.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The contact stated that there was a problem with the wiring of the air conditioning and heating units.additionally, the dash lights would not properly illuminate.the power door locks and power windows would also intermittently fail. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 127,000. The vin was not available.

Since purchasing a sedona van in '02 we have had none stop electrical issues.the battery has been replaced at least twice, same for the alternator, and most recently the car caught fire behind the panel nest to the parking brake pedal.my wife drove the car at 1:00pm to the store and then came home, parked in the driveway, and locked the doors.at 10:00pm we were awaken by a neighbor who told us that the car was running, the wipers running, and the interior filling with smoke.i unlocked the doors and used the extinguisher to stop the fire.thankfully she did not park in the garage or our house would probably have caught fire.mm

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona.the contact heard an unfamiliar noise and the instrument panel caught fire while the vehicle was parked.the cause of the failure was electrical.the insurance company was notified.the vehicle is currently parked in his driveway.the current and failure mileages were 61,000.

I drove 25 minutes from a to b and parked my car. Turned the engine off sat there with the radio on for 1 minute exactly and i hear a. Pshhhhh and smoke rising quickly, then a flame from the fuse box by my left foot. I got out opened the door looked for the smoke and flame that were reflecting and waving. I opened the fuse box slider cover with a knife and started to squirt water out from my bottled water quickly. Thank goodness i had water. Flame went out and i saw the inside of the fuse cover burnt, and a fuse looked like it caught on fire because the fuse looked completely melted.i have a video of the aftermath right after the fire went out. Tomorrow ill be calling insurance, kia, and whoever else that can help me understand what is going on and what i can do to ensure my safety. Please help or approve a recall. Thank goodness i didnt exit my car so quick or alot of the car would have been on fire.

On july 4, 2002 we purchased a 2002 kia sedona minivan.immediately after driving out of the dealership we parked at a store, when we returned to the vehicle it would not start.we called the dealership and they sent out a tow truck.the van was towed to the dealership and the service adviser indicated that they had numerous complaints regarding a driver seat relay that was causing the batteries to go out on this year, make and model of vehicle.he indicated that they were changing all relays. They replaced with new battery andnew relay on the van.the van continued to give us problems, the whole electrical system (stereo, windows, door locks) would go off and on as we were driving.if we would stop vehicle, the vehicle would not start.we had numerous jump starts.we took the vehicle in approx. 4 or 5 times to the dealership with complaints regarding problems, there was black smoke coming out of the exhaust when we would start the vehicle.brakes would squeal when applied.van was terribly hot under the car and it would blow out the heat and almost burn us.i asked the service adviser if they could exchange the van for another one and he indicated that they had to have a continuous report of repairs in order to turn it in as a "lemon". We were traveling in mexico for business and pleasure when our van started on fire on the highway and other autos noticed and waved us down to stop.we noticed, pulled off the road safely and all 6 adult passengers were able to get out safely and run away from the vehicle as it started exploding.the fire came from all underneath of the van.the mexican federal highway police came to where the van was and took a report of the incident.the van burnt down to a skeleton.i reported the incident to the kia customer service, they denied our claim without no explanation.no one ever called to find out the facts or gather information.obviously, they did not even look at their own service repair tickets.

This is the 2nd alternator and battery to be replaced. First one was at 40k miles, and was covered under warranty.they tried to get me to pay for the new battery, but i insisted that since their faulty part caused the battery to die, they should replace at no cost.i bought the car tothe dealer thinking the alternator would still be covered, it is not.i refused for them to replace, since there is an obvious problem with their alternators.the service rep. Agreed that the 2nd alternator should have lasted for the life of the car.i bought the car to another mechanic who has now informed that the wire to the alternator was fried/rotted/burnt/ off.this is due to the way the van is designed.it is apparently too close to the exhaust and has caused the wire to burn off.this is now a major job, and his experience tells him that this will happen again.also, he has advised that he has seen a lot of problems with the brakes on these vans.i thought it was just ours that needed 3 sets of new brakes for less than 75k mile on the car.the average life of brakes on this vehicle is less than 25k. More importantly, the alternator wiring is defective and will undoubtedly can be a cause for a fire.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The contact stated that the air conditioning unit failed and was blowing warm air. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and an inspection was performed, which determined that the condenser was leaking. The dealer also found that the vehicle passenger side of the sub frame was corroded with only two inches of metal left supporting the engine. The corrosion also spread to the driver's side. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and denied assistance with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 62,000.

Dt: the contact stated that this vehicle has experienced several problems. The first incident was in august 2005when the alternator, alternator belt, and a sensor were replaced. A sensor was replaced twice in october 2005.then, onoctober 28, 2005 therea control valvewas replaced. The check engine light was on each time before the vehicle was repaired. The check engine light normally remained off for about three days.however, when the last repair was made the check engine light remained off for only about 50 miles. The vehicle has not been back to the dealer since then.

2nd request ltr fm richard jorge (fl) re his defective 2002 kia sedona.*mrwhen the vehicle only had 180 miles it overheated and shorted out.presently, the consumer is experiencing a recurring problem with the battery and alternator.

My kia sodona van at 63,000 miles began to stall after initial start. Engine has to be revved repeatedly to get it to go. Took it in and was told the alternator needed replacing, 400+ dollars and a whole day of waiting it is still not running right, in fact it is worse than before. Was told to bring it back in, may have a fuel problem. Was the alternator even bad?!! other things continue to break or fall apart on the van. Head supports are broken on two seats, will not stay up. If in a crash would not have the support these are supposed to give! one of the side doors will not close properly. Was told it would be around 100 dollars to change out a ball bearing in the door! these are not covered under the wonderful bogus 100,000 mile warranty.

Remote entry locks often do not work. Dealer said other owners have complained of the same thing but manufacturer is unable to pinpoint the problem and no fix is currently available. *nlm

The car was parked in front of the house. A neighbor knocked on the door and told us that the kia was on fire. No one was in the car at that time. The engine compartment was totally burned up. The car gave me no other problems.

I was driving no less then than block from my house - when i notice smoke from the driver side fuse panel and next thing you know the whole panel became engulf in flames. I called the fire department and able to put fire out- but unfortunately, the car become total in the damage.

Consumer belts squeal, slidding door drags, pulley was replaced at 7744 miles. ***no answer required***the pulley and belt have been replaced 10 times.the alternator seized while the vehicle was being driven.the a/c fan made loud noises.the sliding door dragged.the emergency brake would not hold, the dealer adjusted it three times then finally replaced.an internal short in the fuse clock caused the vehicle not to start.the vehicle stalled intermittenlty but the dealer was unable to duplicate the stalling.the power windows would stick and make noise, the dealer lubed it and replaced the regulator.the rear hatch rusted around handle and had to be repaired/refinished twice.the exhaust manifold racked.oil leaked from oil filter.the front and rear wipers failed.the sliding door handle broke.the dash lights illuminated due to broken bad switch contacts.the rotors warped. The a/c was blowing when it wasn't on and sometimes it blew out warm air.the rear seat arm rest will not stay down.the threshold on the left side is cracked.

2002 kia sedona abs light illuminated. Mechanic determined that the abs control module needed to be reprogrammed. Consumer vehicle was not involved in the recall. Mechanic was unable to repair the consumer's vehicle.the mechanic was not able to repair the vehicle, because kia would not release computer information for the necessary diagnostics. The consumer called several other dealership and they were not very accomdating.the headlights failed twice. The battery and belts had to be replaced and the ac was running low. The consumer believed there may be some type of problem with the alternator.

During normal operation of vehicle, at any speed abs light on instrument panel will intermittently illuminate.also, when consumer attempts to stop vehicle by applying pressure to brake pedal it will fall to floorboard, and brake system will fail to activate. Complete brake failure has occurred approximately four times, and has not resulted in a crash or injury.dealership cannot reproduce the problem to diagnose the vehicle. The abs light came on and the brakes failed again due to bad solenoid and loose wire connections and burned up wires.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona.the vehicle had been parked for approximately 8-10 hours when it suddenly caught fire.the wiring fuse box caused the engine, radio, and wiper/washer to activate.the fire originated in the instrument panel.the contact was able to douse the fire with a fire extinguisher.the vehicle was later towed to a dealer and they did not provide a reason as to why it caught fire.the contact found numerous complaints on the same type of vehicle with identical failures.the current and failure mileages were 72,000.updated 03/06/08.*ljthe consumer stated the recall was done, however ever since the repair, the seats never worked correctly. The consumer had worked done on the air conditioner. Updated

Battery keeps on dying, needing boost. Received ruary january 2003. That one died in feb. They replaced radio, saying it had a short. But battery died again. Then they said an alternator wire was loose. They reconnected it. But battery died again, the following month. Back for service on 6/2/03. Afraid electrical system may fail while vehicle is being operated. Know of 2 other individuals with same kia sedona ex that this has happened to (battery failure).

We have a 2002 kia sedona; we bought in dec of 2001.within the first 6 months, the alternator, battery, ignition switch, had to be replaced, along with sliding doors falling off the hinge. I complained of a wind noise for the first year no one knew what it was. It went unfixed. Within a year the shocks, the struts and sliding doors had to be replaced.my air-condition went out completely guess what no more wind noise. And no longer under warranty. My rear wiper control went out. Recently, while on thanksgiving vacation to ohio we had to have roadside pick up our van as the transmission totally went out without warning.while in the shop we were advised our brakes were not safe to drive.we had never had a problem with the brakes. And the motor mounts were also in need of replacement.was in the shop 14 days, we had to drive back to ohio to when ready.the brakes went to the floor had never ever done that before. When we were on our way out of town, the transmission was acting up.we made it home on dec 7th and no one at kia could take the vehicle in until the service manager returned my call he was off for doctor visit. On dec 13, i took my van in to be repaired, they called me and told me it would need a new transmission, and guess what they are also repairing the sliding doors 5th time i think. They have to also fix the dent in the hood that was not there, before the ohio kia took it in to be fixed.today it has been 15 days.i still do not have my van.i would not recommend kia to my worst enemy.please allow others to know that kia is a lemon if ever there were one.

Kia-sedona. Winshield cracks. Battery draines when van sits 2 or more days. I hv contacted the dealr. Am scheduling service. Have had to jump start the van 3 times in the last year. Winshield cracked recently while driving(no objects involved). Believe this is an ongoing problem. Friend has similiar problem with 2002 sedona. Dealer replaced. Driver window closes too tightly when button is held to close. Makes cracking noise.

We purchased the 2002 kia sedona yesterday 12-28-03. We drove the car for about 45 minutes today, stopped for dinner at a fast food restaurant and then drove again for about 10 minutes whenwhile driving the vehicle, the battery and brake warning lights flashed on and off a few times, then stayed on. When the brake pedal was depressed, the radio shut off and would not come back on. Then the seatbelt warning light came on and the dash lights, exterior and interior lights dimmed. While car was still in motion, the sunroof would not close and the other windows were very slow at closing. The car shuddered a couple of times as if ready to stall. We made it home just in time, the car stalled and would not restart. We were able to close the sunroof, but it was very slow. We have tried to charge the battery, but it does not seem to be taking a charge.secondly the seatbelt indicator light does not sound or indicate that seatbelts are not buckled.thirdly there is moisture under the drivers side head light.also, when the vehicle is in motion and the dvd player is operating, there is a whistling sound heard through the dvd headphones/sound during acceleration.we will be notifying the dealer tomorrow morning.

Battery keeps on dying, needing boost. Recieved new one in january 2003. That one died in feb. They replaced radio, saying it had a short. But battery died again. Unknown electrical drain in electrical system leaves battery dead. Has happened on several occasions requiring jump starts.

Battery keeps draining the system. Dealer stated when using air conditioner and lumbar seat battery will drain. There is no remedy at this time.

Vehicle stalled due to an electrical component shorting out thebattery. The battery was replaced 4 times and alternator was replaced once. Also, the enginelight came on while driving.dealership replaced the entire motor.vehicle burned excessive fuel under normal driving condition.the above repairsonly provided a temporary solution for the problems.

My 2002 kia sedona has experienced multiple problems since i bought it in march, 2002.major electrical problems, battery replacement, sliding door failing to close, engine noise, air conditioner problems.have contacted manufacturer and dealer.some issues resolved - - others unable to be diagnosed or replicated.fear that engine, electrical system is still not working properly and will fail and cause an accident.

2002 kia sedona with electrical problems customer states that the car went dead while driving on the interstate**ccit was determined that the alternator was the cause of the problem, which also damaged other componets.

Battery dies every summer during hot weather.three batteries in 3 years.the alternator does not supply battery with enough current when the air conditioning, radio, and lights are on causing the battery to drain.

2002 sedona was repaired 2 times with less then 200 miles on it for battery draining- claim was it was the radio didn't shut off with the car. Then last month with 59.000 miles on it i complained of the car hesitating and lights flickering, airbag light came on for no reason, claim to repair was tune-up- 1700.00 and two months later my battery went on fire with 5 people in it, 3 children and one is carried out handicapped. Lights flickered, odometer went nuts without the engine racing, door locks locked and unlocked, battery light, break light, and airbag light came back on. Wipers went on without turning them on with the switch and the hazards went on without pushing the button. I am more then happy to file a consumer complaint and a lawsuit. My dealer went out of business i was told when my car went on fire two weeks ago. So now it is at another dealer and at 65,000 not covered, it will be covered. I am actually compiling a class action lawsuit on the safety of these batteries. I want my car fixed and all these vans recalled to find out the reason, i would not want one of my families killed and don't want to wait till it happens to someone else's. All of us can't be wrong and as a safety problem and a possible means of killing people when the doors lock and won't let you out when the car is on fire - ?? get with it people. Recall these cars before someone gets killed. Use my car as your test subject, i offer it. Now my daughters lungs hurt from the smell of the sulfur hurrying to get the kids out.

Charging system under engineered. Battery fails to charge in hot weather, say 90 f or above. Amperage too low for use in hot weather with ac at full power, especialy when idling. I have tried a lager battery 1,000 cca, but its only a temporary fix. As the hot days go by the battery starts to lose its power and then i need to drive the vehicle for a long time before the battery is fully charged and i mean 3hr or more of a drive! i have had to jump start 2002 kia sedona 6 times in hot weather. Talked to dealer about it. They said it was a very common complait with the kia sedona in hot weater cities and that kia is not goint to change the wimpy altermator with a more beefy one. As a former technician i know that this is a fire hazard, radios and other electronics will short out if not remedied. Cortrary to main belief that only high voltage can cause a short i have found that low valtage can cause a short then when you increase your voltage by jump starting you can cause a fire. So heads up (tick, tock, tick ,tock)

I had my battery replaced in march 2003 because the car would not start. August 22nd my check engine light and brake light came on.i called the service department and they said could be the alternator.i made an appointment for the next day at 9:00a.m.when i was driving home from school i noticed my abs light was on.i parked it in drive way.it would not start the next morning so my husband jumped started it.i drove my daughter to schooland my car starting beeping, hesitating, airbag light came on plus all the other ones from the day before. I dropped my daughter at school and about a block down the road in just died with my son and i in the car.i noticed a vapor fume coming out of the vents by the windshield when it died.i got my son and i out of the car and called roadside assistance.the service department said i need a new alternator and battery.i got the alternator covered and they put a new battery in.

From 2nd weekwe complained of engine noise. Each time no problem was found. Few months later ck engine came on. A spark plug was replaced. 1 month later ck engine light on again. New fuel injector. 2 days later ck engine light again. Needed new motor at 3800 miles. 1 week later caught on fire in our garage.kia regional management chris butler said they would repair damages from fire but had no concern that our 6 month old van with only 3800 miles already had the motor replace and caught on fire. His advise don't park in the garage anymore so we won't have to worry about it burning down our house. Ironic that we choose this van because we thought it would be easier and safer for our kids.now i fear our families safety everyday because we have it.

Re:kia sedona minivan [xxx] with about 58,300 miles.no prior problems of any kind.

My wife was driving her 2002 kia sedona and it caught on fire.the fire was electrical in nature and began in the steering column.after turning off the ignition and removing the keys, the engine started along with the windshield wipers.the fire was contained to the dash and steering column area.a nearby citizen extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher.we are fortunate that my wife and 3 young children were not seriously injured.

Dt: the contact received two recall letters; one for the dashboard lights, and the other for headlights. Shecontacted the dealership, and they could not diagnose the problem by phone and will not be able to inspect the vehicle until january 11, 2005. The manufacturer recommended that contact another dealership.

I had my camshaft rear plug replaced after in came out and leaked oil everywhere in 2014. Now it's come out again doing the same thing.what can i do to keep it from happening again and again.is it the plug or the camshaftthat's blowing it out. I can't find any schematic to show me why or what to do.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, she heard a knocking noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected and it was determined that the threads for the crank shaft bolt were missing. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the balancer and bolt would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 105,500.

I really need help and don?t know what to do.also with my car my engine light was constantly on and to this day the light is probably still on and kia have not contacted me yet and even though i have a rental from enterprise through kia paying that is not the issue i want my car so that can sell it so that i don?t lose my home because i am unemployed due to this bucket of bolts. And also the kia repair man steve johnson at kirkland kia stated to me that my odometer reading was incorrect and the kia manufacturer took my car to another dealer because i wad being seen at their auto shop too much and is bizarre or what? i spoke to a paul stapleton at kia motors america because they have had my vehicle for 30 days straight. On oct 8 i picked my car up and 20 min later my engine light was back on. The day before i was offered $1000 for a good will gesture from kia. When the engine light came back on the next day mr. Stapleton offered to buy my vehicle back for 11,300 and that was without the $1000 good will. Today is oct 12th and by this afternoon i will be hearing from this company.this is not satisfying to me because i still had a full warranty on my car and for 11,300 i will have topurchase used and no warranty because i had a 2002 that was paid in full and a full warranty.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly stalled. The fuel pump and battery were replaced but the failure continued. The dealer then replaced the air flow sensor. September 2010, the engine was shaking followed by the vehicle stalling again. The check engine light illuminated after the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The current mileage was 60,735. The failure mileage was 54,084.

I have had numerous problems with my kia sedona. Within a few months of ownership the head gasket blew and it was towed in and replaced. Then the windshield broke during the night in the garage with no weather extremes. I replaced that. In 2 years i've had 2 blowouts to the front driver's tire. The only 2 in my whole 30+ years of driving.dealer says its not the car. The front wheel bearings were replaced. In dec 2004 the engine was replaced, the lumbar support was broken and fixed, the driver's doorhandle broke and was fixed by kia. Jan18 it was back in because the hood release was not working. It was fixed and we picked up the vehicle 1/19. On 1/21 the gas pedal stuck, i brought it in and they fixed it immediately. " the cover had fallen down and they tied it back up."obviously not a good job because it stuck again on the way home at 65mph. I was finallyable to stop the car and had it towed back in. I think it is a death trap!

While driving the vehicle completely stalled, and the enginedied upon trying to accelerate.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona ex. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph when the engine stalled. The battery, brake and service engine warning lights were illuminated. The engine was restarted after several moments. The failure recurred at least eight different times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times for the similar failure. The technician was unable to duplicate the problem and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

While driving on highway with heat on, the air stopped blowing into the car from the vents even though we could hear the blower motor running.this startedoctober 4, 2003 and still has not been fixed as of june 2004.even though we have had the car in the repair shop 11 times.we have been placed in very dangerous situations because of this.during the winter, when the blower would quit, the windows would fog up or freeze up immediately.we couldn't even see to get the car off the road.there was no way to clear the windows, not to mention the discomfort of freezing to death when it was 30 degrees below zero.the entire heating system, actuators, blower motor were replaced and the blender doors were reprogrammed.we only have heat sporadically.now that summer is here, the air conditioner doesn't work,.it is in the shop now having the compressor replaced.the transmission also was replaced in oct. 2003.we feel the company has had ample time to repair the car.they even admit they can't fix it.we are seeking a replacement (comparable) vehicle or a refund so that we can get a vehicle that works.i refuse to go through another winter like that.

One of the main concerns/failure is a front end bobbling noise when driving on uneven pavement.the dealer states they know of the problem but they don't know how to fix it.originally they replaced the front struts and 2 engine mounts as these were cracked. The noise is still there and my dealer is at a loss on how to fix it.kia-forums.com under kia sedona front struts is a forum devoted to people who are having this front end bobbling noise.there are about 5000 hits on this forum and each one of the car owners has been told kia knows of the problem but they don't know how to fix it. This problem is happening on all sedonas from 2001 to present.

While driving, the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably without warning. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle.then stall. The driver tried to restart, but was unable to start. The vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the problem can not be duplicate at this time.please provide additional information.

Our kia sedona's engine has been dying when coming to a stop for about 6 months. Kia tried on 8-5-04 to fix and was told it needed new spark plugs. Replaced the plugs. Three weeks later on 9-11-04 van engine dyed again when coming to a stop. Keeped alog of this. On 9-25-04 while driving 70 mph on the interstate, the engine again dyed while in the passing lane. Finally got a check engine light. Had to wait three days to get van into kia, light went out by then. Kia dealership said it has a transmission error code but can't pinpoint the defect to fix. Kia kept the van a week trying to get engine light to reappear in vain. So i now have a van that could stopped running at anytime and place. Not very reassuring or safe. We are very upset and kia corp refuses to do anything to remedy the situation.

Vehicle will intermittently shut off while consumer is driving, consumer tried to startvehicle back up, but there was nothing. Contacted dealer, anddealer stated that consumer should not use alot of electricity invehicle.

This started as a slight knock & within 5 minutes the engine was screaming loud knocking banging clanking etc. Total loss of power, and slipping of gears on top of what sounding like the engine falling apart. They took a month to replace the engine now i have had numerous speedometer, check engine, odometer & check engine failures/malfunctions.dt

Check engine light keeps coming on, every 2000 miles. It is always the same thing, a rich fuel mixture. This problem affects the acceleration of the vehicle. When the driver steps on the gas, the car either bucks and won't go, or just bogs down and won't accelerate.this is dangerous when trying to merge in traffic on busy, congested highways.everytime this happens, we take it to the dealer and they keep it several days to a week before they can figure out what is wrong.this is the 3rd time since april 2003 for the same issue.*la

At different intervals, the oil leaks onto the catalytic converter causing smoke to come from the bottom of the car.also, now at 5000 miles the motor is failing.*jg

Battery keeps on dying, needing boost. Recieved new one in january 2003. That one died in feb. They replaced radio, saying it had a short. But battery died again. Then they said an alternator wire was loose. They reconnected it. But battery died again, the following month. Back for service on 6/2/03. Afraid electrical system may fail while vehicle is being operated. Know of 2 other individuals with same kia sedona ex that this has happened to (battery failure).

Consumer complains of a loud whislte when driving over 40 mph.the factory rep test drove the vehicle and determined it to be the roof rack.their solution was possibly a redesign of the cross members.nothing has been done.*jg

Dt: the contact received two recall letters; one for the dashboard lights, and the other for headlights. Shecontacted the dealership, and they could not diagnose the problem by phone and will not be able to inspect the vehicle until january 11, 2005. The manufacturer recommended that contact another dealership.

The headlights keeps blowing.have replaced 3 times.all the light on the inside keeps coming on (battery, check engine light, seat belt light; bell rings).had alternator checked and it is fine.the fuses are fine.there is defect with this vehicle, i saw others with the same complaint, even on newer models. The company needs to fix this.can't drive the vehicle at night. And the light replacement is expensive. There is a shaking and rumbling sound coming from vehicle.have had engine problems, have had problems every since i this vehicle. Its been at the shopmore than on the road. Had i know that the vehicle had so many issues, i would have never purchased it.

An enormous amount of gas leaks from the bottom of the van.*jg

While driving 45 mph fuel was gushing from vehicle. Vehicle was towed to dealer, fuel line to fuel pump had come off. Clamp had not been securely attached.

After several attempts to start the vehicle it was towed to a mechanics garage. The mechanic stated the fuel pump was defective. *nlm

Ever since i've owned the kia sedona i have not been able to fill the gas tank without fuel spitting back out at me from the filler tube. I'm not topping off the tank, i'm either filling it by holding the fuel nozzle with my hand or using the little catch to hold the fuel nozzle open.the van had a valve replaced by the dealer in the filler tube but this did not fix the problem. After a third try to get the problem fixed at a differant kia dealer the service advisor had me call the kia hotline at 1800-333-4542 and i was told the same thing that the service advisor himself had been told by kia, that this problem was normal for the sedona and here is why according to kia, the filler tube feeds gas into the tank at the bottom of the tank therefore building up pressure inside the gas tank as it is being filled.the solution: fill the tank up very slowly as to not build up pressure inside the tank while filling.i've owned a few cars and never had to worry about filling up the tanks fast or slow, put the nozzle in the tank pump the gas the nozzle shuts off when it's full you pay and have a nice day.any help or assistance is greatly appreciated, i feel this is a safety/design issue and would very much like to get the problem fixed or buy a safer van.my referance number through kia if it will help is 110625. Mr

Dangerous design of fuel tank filling system. Fuel tank filler rubber hose attaches to lower lobe of fuel tank. Hose will contain fuel until tank is nearly empty. Hose is routed below unibody frame rail and is highly susceptible to impact damage from road debris. If hose were to become damaged/dislodged, entire contents of fuel tank could spill. If this happened while vehicle is in forward motion, the fuel could spray onto (large) hot muffler positioned transversley, immediately aft of fuel tank. I feel this design presents an extreme fire/explosion hazard that could be fatal to vehicle occupants. I have never seen such a poorly designed fuel system!

I was driving no less then than block from my house - when i notice smoke from the driver side fuse panel and next thing you know the whole panel became engulf in flames. I called the fire department and able to put fire out- but unfortunately, the car become total in the damage.

It is nearly impossible to pump gas into the van. The pump keeps shutting off no matter how slow i pump or how far i put the nozzle into the tank.

Door handles, passengers and driver, front and back.handles in the front have both been replaced once, and the new ones are now defective and will not open from the inside. Rear passenger door handles are broken on the outside. If the vehicle was in an accident and needed to be exited quickly, or entered quickly, this poses a safety problem.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona.when the contact started the vehicle, the driver side seat belt began smoking.the seat belt then caught fire when it came in contact with the wires attached to the seat belt connector and a piece of hard plastic around the bottom of the seat (seat guard).the contact extinguished the fire.kia stated that a recall repair had been performed on the vehicle in april of 2006 and that she would be responsible for any current repairs.the seat belt area of the vehicle was damaged.the vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer or a mechanic.the contact also stated that the passenger side door handle failed and a new one had been ordered before the fire occurred.the current and failure mileages were 77,600.

Dt: the contact stated while parking and closing the front passenger door latch fell apart. When attempting to close the door it would not stay shut. Upon examination, screws were falling out of the door latch. The vehicle is scheduled for repairs. Currently, she has wired the door wired shut.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona.when the sliding doors is opened, the door detaches from the hinge and falls to the ground.the vehicle was inspected by the repair shop who placed the door back on, but stated that the door would fall again if it were to be opened.the current mileage is 107,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.

The power lock in the driver's door of our 2002 kia sedona locks unexpectedly.it locks by itself when we close the door; it locks by itself when we open the door.worse, when the lock activates it locks all of the doors in the van, including the tailgate.this is a random, though frequent, occurrence.this seems to be a very dangerous condition, since we have an infant and a toddler, and are always fearful of being locked out of the van while they are inside.

Multiple electrical problems with 2002 kia sedona minivan including front window not working; trunk/backlatch not opening (twice); checkengine light(twice); frontblower for heater/airconditoning not functioning (twice). Problems started nov. 2002 and are ongoing.

2002 kia sedona with steering failure. Consumer states that mechanic told her that a bolt fell out and could not be replaced unless the entire steering shaft was replaced. Consumer states that wasn't the first time the steering has had problems.the consumer stated during the first year of owning the vehicle, the transmission failed ,the drivers seat motor had to be replaced several times and the fuse that controlled the dashboard lights malfunctioned on a continuous basis.

Failure of automatic transmission to engage in reverse.

We bought a van that was delivered from portland oregon to our home in lynden washington about 10:30 pm the next day my wife proceeded to check the vehicle fluids, clean the vehicle, ect . Then apon that found the fluids to be low and not serviced. She my wife then called the car lot talked to the sales manager, he professed that it had been serviced and when my wife explainedher discovery he then told her to take it to jiffy lube and the car lot would pay for it to be done. When driving it to be serviced we my wife and i noticed the transmission was slipping there for we contacted our loan office to see if the deal had been funded in which it had but they advised us to have the dealership swap us out of the vehicle, so we then went back to the dealership to let them know they were rude and wanted my wife to take it to the kia dealership to be diagnosed. When my wife took it to the kia dealership it was found that in fact the transmission was slipping and we would need a new transmission, we then contacted the dealership in which we bought the van , asked once again to be swapped out of this vehicle, they gave us the run around and told us unless we came up with $8,000.00 - $10,000.00dollars there was nothing they could do except have us drive the van to them 224+ miles for them to put in a refurbished transmission in it . My wife before buying the van told them we did not want a vehicle with this much mileage on it the sales person told my wife it was ok because it had a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on it. Which in fact it does not. They have lied to us about checking the vehicle out when in fact they bought it from another dealer where it was in storage. They told us we need to bring it to them if we brake down and the transmission goes out on the way that they would send a tow truck to pick it up and we would have to find our own way home. Maybe we should bring our other vehicle in case that was to happen. Also our paper work has no signatures.

The vehicle did not hold when going down a hill or no low range.there was a knocking sound coming from the motor(dealer didn't find problem), and a wind noise had come from the front glass while the vehicle was in motion.*nlm*scc

Our kia sadona is a 2002 model and has about 52,000 miles on it. It has had problems with the transmission, brakes and the windshield has been replaced three times etc. Today however, my husband was driving the vehicle when the front drivers side seat in the vehicle broke. The seat broke completely out of it's chamber.thank god this did not happen during an accident. The dealership said they would be replacing the part that broke under the warranty however it will be awhile before they get the part in.they refused to provide us with a safe vehicle to drive during the time it takes to get it fixed and kia corporate also refused saying they do not provide rentals even if the part is a defect from the manufacturer.they pride themselves on the warranty of the car parts but who cares how much you have to spend on rental cars while yours is in the shop so many times.

While driving at a normal speedvehicle will overheat, causing the fluid toburn dry.there is no power or acceleration.

12-23-05 the vehicle started to show reverse problems. Dealer was called and the dealer said that the manufacturer would not honor the warranty because i had not taken it to the dealer to have the tranny fluid checked. This was said without seeing the vehicleand after i had just been asked if i was the same person that had just had their tranny fixed. Many phone calls later, without any resolution, i took the vehicle to be fixed at a cost of $2400.

Strong antifreeze smell when using the ac on hot days. Transmission shifts violently from 1-2 and occasionally into reverse. Dealer has attempted to correct several times.*nlmsliding doors have had alignment problems and bearing failure several times also. (currently fixed).

Brought 2002 kia sedona in july 2002 and transmission went out in september 2002. Transmission was replaced and ever since on cold mornings transmission jerks violently several times while driving. Has been to shop several times for repair but kia service response to problem is let car warm up for 15 minutes or so before you drive off. This solution is not working.

At 64,000 miles the transmission fails to reverse. Kia will not repair under warranty. Peak kia gm says that if you drive in colorado you should follow the severe driving maintenance schedule and change fluid every 30,000 miles. Of course kia does not tell colorado buyers that the place they live is considered severe driving and to follow that schedule to retain the warranty.

Driving on interstate and vehicle suddenly felt like someone slammed on the brakes and slowed the vehicle from 65 mph to 35mph right away. This problem has happened 5 times, 5/21/03, 5/23/03, 5/24/03, 5/27/03, 5/28/03. Vehicle has been to dealer service dept. 5/21/03, 5/23/03, 5/27/03, 5/28/03.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The contact stated that while traveling 45 mph, he heard a loud noise from the driver side of the vehicle and the seat belt tightened cutting off his circulation. The contact had to move the seat back to get and unlock the seat belt. A few minutes later, the same failure occurred on the passenger side. The contact was unable to get the passenger side unlocked. The failure left the contact injured across the chest and waist. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 50,000.

While driving 50 mph vehicle was involved in a collision.upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy, and seat belt broke. Consumer was informed by the city of peoria fire department that his infant car seats could not be securely attached in the vehicle, the plastic stop buttons affixed to the seat belt hold the buckle at a reachable height which physically prevent the seatbelt from being tightened to car seat standards.

The drivers side seat belt came off the side wall and was not usable.i had the dealer re-attach it and asked if there was a recall due to this problem and they said no.

Seat belt buckle is not lockingseat belts in place. Contacted deal anddealer was aware of the problem.ak

Car accelerated on his own as a result car went into median, also passenger side seat belt snapped.car was heavily damaged as a result of the crash. Went from 10 to 50mphin seconds. Also, brake system failed to respond. Previous report filed #10065882.

The locking mode that keeps the seat belt taut when installing a childs car seat stopped working.it is activated by pulling the seat belt all the way out, and then letting it retract.this keeps the car seat secure.it was taken to the dealter and although they had to be convinced there was a problem, they agreed to replace both center belts.i am concerned that this may be happening in other new 2002 sedona lx's.we were told that the seat belts are "univeral"but i wanted to report this failure, and what do i do if my van is returned, the seat belts work for a while, and then this happens again? luckily this failure was noticed while i was installing the seat belt, and did not happen while i was driving.i have three young children in car seats.

The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona.while driving less than 25 mph, the contact noticed that the air bag light was illuminated.the dealer stated that the seat belt sensor failed and caused the air bag light to illuminate.no repairs have been made as of yet.the vin and engine size were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 84,000.updated 09/19/tr

Back seat seatbelts have been replaced twice already in the span of a few months. Contacted dealer, and dealer has replaced the belts, but problem has not been remedied.

While driving 35 mph another vehicle cut in front ofconsumer's vehicle. This caused the consumer to depress on the brakes. Consumer noticed that when pressing on the brakes passenger side rear seat belt did not lock, which caused the child safety seat to fall forward.consumer had the same seat belt replaced on three occasions, and the problemrecurred.

I have a 2002 kia sedona van.we had taken the child seat out of the passenger side-middle row and was trying to reinstall the seat.that is when we discovered the seat belts fail to ratchet when installing child safety seat.since we still had the back seat in the van (i often take them out.), i was able to install the child seat in the back seat.however, had the back seat been out and we had both of our children with us, we would have had to drive with one of our children in an unsecured child seat.if we had an accident...well, lets say that i would own part of kia.we have had seat belts replaced for same failure in the past.this is third failure in our van, which has less than 51,000 miles.also, it isn't like we take the child seats in and out much.i would guess that the child seat has only been removed 2 or three times.

The vehicle was involved in an accident and the passenger side middle row seat buckle became unlatched which was occupied by an infant in a car seat.there were three injuries.

The rear seat belt was replaced per recall 03v-017000.after the seat belt was repaired the consumer was unable to secure a child safety seat in the rear seat because the belt would not lock/retract.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who indicated that the belt is suppose to retract back after being pulled out. *nlm

After removal of 2nd and 3rd row seats, they fail to latch on easily as described in the manual, both times dealer's help was necessary after multiple trials at home

Got into van today to drive it and the back of the seat broke from the bottom of the seat.

Locking mechanism for rear seat head restariants (4) have failed.failure does not allow the head restraint to be adjusted and locked in a position above the seat back.

While driving seat back recliner bolt broke.driver's seat back fell back, causing the driver to lose control temporarily.

Dt: the contact stated the driver's seatbroke and leaned to the left. The dealer suggested someone pulled on the seat while getting into the back and broke it. The manufacturer offered no free remedy.

While driving the vehicleat any speed and no warning they can smell strong chemical fumes through out the vehiclefumes coming from the heater vents. Dealer has inspected the vehicle and could not duplicate the problem.ts

Updated

*sc

Consumer states the rear back seat does not buckle up at all. O to the rear track to the vehicle seat, not installed correctly notified.

The brake rotors are wearing causing vibrations and extended stopping distance. Dealer has been notified.ph

Our sedona has been pulling since we first bought it. First to the left, then to the right, then nothing, no pull. Been aligned twice. Also been told i take my hands off unevenly which causes to pull, also that i don't know how to keep correct tire pressure in. The car pulls heavily. One way or the other. Scared to drive. Also brakes vibrate car badly when braking from high to low speed especially on a downhill. Have contacted the bbb auto line. I believe the car is extremely unsafe and i can not stand driving this thing. It is a two hour drive to my kia dealer and i have been there a lot.**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768313

Car accelerated on his own as a result car went into median, also passenger side seat belt snapped.car was heavily damaged as a result of the crash. Went from 10 to 50mphin seconds. Also, brake system failed to respond. Previous report filed #10065882.

Front discs brakes warping, appeas to reoccur at regular intervals. I took my kia sedona to have this corrected at the dealer in 12/1/02. It had its rotors and pads replaced, but the same problem reoccured with in 5k miles. I did not take sedona for service untill it got really bad especialy when exiting the freeway. Buy this time my bake worranty had expired. My bad.the dealer still worked with me and resufaced the rotors for a minimal charge. 3k miles later rotors rewarp, at this time i decided to pushes a set of new rotors, pads and istall them my self. The sedona worked great for 7k miles then disc bakes rewarp.this tells me that the brake rotos are under engineered. So with this in mind, i sent my old rotors to be resurfaced, crossed drilled and slotted. With a new set of regular pads i reinstalled my rotors and pads. So far i got 35k miles on these brakes and they still have plenty of meat with no warping. My kia sedona has 50k miles and no other braking problems have accured.

When applying brakes and coming to a red light, pedal went to the floor and vehicle did not stop.there was a thumping present, andabs kicked in, allowing driver to stop vehicle. Dealer changedbrake pads and rotors.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving on normal road conditions the vehicle presented vibrations when the brakes were applied.the kia dealership did not have a service center on its premises and the contact was referred to a different manufacturer service center.the brake rotors were resurfaced, but the vibration continued.as a result, the dealership referred the contact to a different service center were the brake rotors were resurfaced again.the vibration persisted.a consumer protection agency was alerted and required the local service dealer to resurface the brake rotors on three additional occasions.this still did not remedy the problem.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who determined the rotors were fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle continues to be driven in its current condition, but away from open roads in order to reduce the accident risk presented by the defective rotors.updated 9/15/2006 -

Vehicle shutters and pulls when brakes applied from freeway speed on downhill exit.

The incident started prior to this date.it started when my vehicle hit 10,000 miles.i heard a rumbling in the brakes and told my husband, he thought i was crazy-that brakes don't go at 10,000 miles, but sure enough they did.it was covered under kia warranty, they said the rotors were warped and the brakes were shot.now in april of 04 at about 22,000 miles same thing again.kia said all 4 sets- front and reat needed replacement and it wouldn't be covered under warrant-normal wear and tear.they wanted to charge me $600.00.i took the car to goodyear.they replaced all for $340.00.i took the original brakes and they still had "meat" on them.anyhow, aug. 04 at about 27,000 miles under goodyear's warranty, once again the front brakes had to be replaced.now in feb. 05, everytime i made a right hand turn the red brake light went on.ast first i ignored it thinking it was defective, but then i heard the brakes rumble.i brought it back to goodyear at about 34,000 miles and goodyear once again replaced the front brakes and told me that that was the last time they were replacing the brakes.i would have to bring it back to kia.now, i'm sure it's going to happen again, since there is a pattern.i'm tired of this and i'm sure kia won't be cooperative.so this leads me to you.

2002 kia sedona with 26,000 mile front end vibrates when braking from higher speeds 40 +mphdealler checked and said they have had complaints before but vibrations stopped.. Now at approx 37,000 bad vibrations start again dealer now says its from driver braking to hard wants to cut rotters and replace brakes for same problemas before at owner expence.. Brakes do stop van but you must hold steering wheel tight.. We have freinds with same vehile and they have had brakes redone 2 times at 40,000 miles this appears to be a componet problem not drivers..

I own a 2002 kia sedona. Yesterday i took it in to the dealer for the 15th time due to a check engine light. I also asked them to check the brakes since they are pulsating when stopping, which is the fourth time for this specific problem. It has been just 19,000 miles since the last rotor and brake change. They told me that they had done a "good will" replacement of parts the last time i brought it in and that it will cost $700.00 to fix this time. They said, "there were hotspot and warping noted the last time you brought it in and since it is happening again, it shows a pattern of hard breaking." my wife drives this vehicle back and fourth to work 3 time a week and thenm it is only used around town so i know that is not the issue. They also stated that rotors on minivans should only last 18000-20000 miles anyway. I feel that the sedona does not have sufficient sized rotors for the weight of te vehicle and kia should be forced to recall the vehicles and replace all the rotors with the appropriate size. It is a hazard since it couls cause the brakes to fail while driving which could cause an accident that may lead to death. Kia also told me if it is at the end of the warrantee and the part is replaced, the second it goes past it is no longer covered even if it has only been 10 miles since it was replaced.

Vehicle shudders when braking, especially when driving downhill.vehicle has been returned to dealer for service four times: 1) rotors were re-surfaced, 2) rotors were replaced, 3) rotors were re-surfaced again, 4) dealer claimed that "heavy braking" caused wear and refused to provide warranty service.

We purchased our van in jul of 02. After 6 months we returned the van complaining about a squeeling noise from the brakes. We were told the brakes were ok. At 24k miles i noticed the rotors were dulland the rear shoes were worn, i was told the rotors were glazed over and need to be turned and the shoes were worn to less than 50% life, and they would not warrentyafter 12k miles. I had the rotors turned and replaced the pads, a few weeks later we noticed the the brakes would pulsate when slowing down from highway speeds. I took to dealer that the rotors warped. I replaced the rotors and pads, after 3k miles the pulsateing happened again. In oct 04 we had an accident i was reffered to kia customer service and was told that they would not warrenty anything because i did the repairs myself, even though i had a reoccuring complaint about my brakes before now. I replaced the rotors and was told by the parts and service at the dealer that kia informs them not to turn the rotors but replace them, due to over heating and warping. I feel that if the dealership and kia had repaired my brakes properly from the begining our accident could have been avoided. In the past 6 months the brakes have gone to the floor 3-4 times and the dealer was informed of this.

One more time kia sedona 2002 failed to brake car lost control front passenger seat belt snapped out, looks like power steering failed and brakes also, not the first time brakes failed in kia sedona.prior to this accident the consumer complained to the dealer about vibrations while braking.car accelerate by itself (throttle stuck).

The brake pedal placement makes it easy to simultaneously press both the brake and accelerator pedal when attempting to stop the vehicle.on one occasion the vehicle crashed into the wall of the consumer's garage.the dealer has been notified. *nlm

The accelerator pedal and brake pedal were too close together and vehicle rides rough. *mr *nlm

2002 kia sedona had steering problems very tough to steer making it feel real dangerous, i took to dealer to ck out said i need intermediate steering shaft/ujoint at the price of $544.16... What a ripoff i can get the part for $100 and feel that kia should cover these costs too many people are having this problem.

I took the van to the mechanic about a month ago. They told me it needed a steering coupler and a flange. The steering wheel was very loose when driving and would make a creaking sound.

Consumer complains of a loud grinding noise especially when making left hand turns, moderate noises on right hand turns and light on straight driving.the power steering was flushed and the grinding returned with an added whistle.the cause was a hose that was leaking.consumer feels the power steering pump should have been replaced. *jg

There was no events leading up to the failure, i was pull on to the road and lost complete control of my steering, my steering wheel just kept going around and around, complete steering failure. I have not done anything yet to fix...

Power steering belt had to be replaced due topulley breaking whileconsumer was driving. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

Driver door will not open from the inside or outside.

The door handles are plastic and eventually broke off on the outside so that opening the doors -all 4- is tricky since only one side of the handle remains in place.the inside door handles have a plastic chrome-looking coating that peels off and has cut our hands several times causing us to need bandages as soon as we run in the front door.

Dt: the contact stated both t sliding doors malfunctioned. He had a problem with the passenger'sside door previously. It fell offthe track, and was repaired byservice dealer. Now, both doors were stuck shut and will not open, even open from the inside.no appointment has been made with the service dealer for repairs.

Kia has informed us that our car will continue to need repairs since it was not designed to be driven on dirt roads. We live on a dirt road and drive many miles of dirt roads and now we are spending money replacing parts not protected from dirt due to faulty engineering design.

Both sliding doors will not stop if a person gets in the path of door. If doors are not open all the way they will close.

Both of my front door handles on inside broke completely offexactly the same way only way to get out if my car is to roll window down and open from outside. Also sliding door handle same material broke off i feel it is a safety hazard if the windows were to quit working i would have no way out.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Electric system wiringcausing lights/windows and door locks to go out. Dealer notified.

The sliding door on the driver's side won't go farther back than 1/2 way & then stops.when this happened on the passenger side on may 16, 2005, and we pulled it back all the way, the sliding door assembly fell out of the window in the rear & the rear part of the sliding door fell down to the ground & left large gouges in the side of the vehicle.this was marked as recall when fixed on the passenger side - 2002, kia sedona.i

Back hatch door will not open at all. Contacted dealer ,and the dealer is not willing to do anything.

While starting vehicle the sliding door window had blownout and shattered intopieces.no one was hurt, but the the only occupancy was the driver at time of incident.the consumer states that the door was shut at the time and the vehicle was not moving.the consumer feels that something should be done to insure his family's safety, and to keep them driving kia vehicles.*scc

Spring mechanism on rear hatchback was too "strong".consumer opened hatchbackand was was knocked to the ground and broke arm.

Consumer stated he experienced premature tire wear.he stated he was only getting 18,000miles from a set of tires.he stated his first set of tires were the original ones and they wore out at about 18,000.now he has sigma 15 rims and now they are wearing out at about the same amount of mileage.

Loose front suspension.failure has not happened, yet.worried that the noises coming from the front of my vehicle will cause a failure on the road.kia is aware of the problem but is reluctant to repair it.they know that all sedonas have this problem but as yet to come to grips with it.

The location and the carrying device for the spare tire is causing damage to the tire, making it unusable.

Motor vehicle part defect- spare tire carrier assembly was defective, as i was unable to remove the spare tire from the carrier after having a flat tire on the interstate. The carrier's threads seemed to be defective, as i was unable to lower or raise the carrier assembly.i contacted the kia dealership about the problem, but the service directorrefused to fix the issue unless i was willing to pay for the replacement of defective parts. I refused since the spare tire assembly has never been used until september 2, 2006, when i had a flat tire on the interstate and discovered this defective part.

My 2002 kia sedona has approximately 54000miles. At approx 34000miles, we encountered a very serious safety problem with the vehicle surging forward at stop signs, red lights, and busy intersections. It was as if were sitting at a stop sign w/one foot on break and a ghost was stomping on the accelarater. Kia changed out the wiring harness and this seemed to fix the problem.

The vehicle would jerk back and forth or shake forcefully and uncontrollably at various speeds, including while traveling on the highway at 50 mph, the vehicle would also stall unexpectedly while in motion forcing the driver to suddenly try to steer to safety without power steering.the vehicle idled low when stopped and suddenly lunges forward on it's own while the drivers foot was on the brakes.the service dealers were unable to duplicate the problem.the valves, filters and wiring were changed.*sc

While driving and when brakes are applied vehicle will continue to accelerate. *scc

I was traveling from one highway onto another.as i was coming off the ramp and accelerating to merge onto the other highway the car started accelerating by itself.it kept getting faster and faster.i tried to tap the pedal thinking it was just stuck ( like older cars did when you started them and they reached ideal idle & temperature) and it increased speed.it reached the maximum speed on the car of 135 mph.i can't remember much else except just trying to figure out how to stay safe and get the car to stop. The engine was screaming and there was a lot of noise coming from everywhere in the car.i tried the brakes but they only smoked and the car didn't seem to slow down much. I got to a portion of the road where there was a straight away and i got onto the shoulder and i put the car in neutral.it took a bit to slow down to a stop and then i shut the car of.i called the 800 number on my door for roadside assistance and told them what happened. They told me to sit tight and they would call me back in 5-7 minutes to tell me who was coming and where the car was going for repair.she never called back.the dealer where i bought the car was the point of service.when i got the car back it was stated on the service invoice that the breather hose had popped off of the valve cover and the bracket bent causing the hose and clamp to bind under accelerator cable and throttle linkage.they replaced the spring clamp with a worm type clamp.they also performed a light cut on the front rotors and deglazed the pads.they gave me the clamp that caused the whole problem.it was not broken it just popped off.i have returned the car because it still is not the same.i feel the car has been compromised and i don't feel safe in it.

Going down 251 and they were bush hoging and we slowed down and the last one we went by broke the passenger side back window.

While driving on dry/straight road, at less than 30mph, driver's rear window completely shattered without warning.

Windshield cracked twice.both times the crack starts below the black plastic trim- not arock/stone chip at all.1st windshield was replaced by my insurance company.i am trying to get dealer to replace 2nd.

Consumer states thatwindshield cracked while sitting indriveway, and mechanic replaced it. Second timewindshieldcracked, the same thing happened.but now they do not want to replace it because theyclaimthat a very small rockhit the windshield and caused it to crack. However,it did notcrack because he had not been drivingvehicle.

The vehicle did not hold when going down a hill or no low range.there was a knocking sound coming from the motor(dealer didn't find problem), and a wind noise had come from the front glass while the vehicle was in motion.*nlm*scc

Windshields have distortions at eye level, causingconsumer to see objects through windshields wavy. Dealer replaced windshield on 24 sep 2001, then again on 29 sep 2001. Both hadsame defects. Consumer looked through other kia windshields at dealership, all had the same distortions.

The windshield had a burn odor.

1 may 03 update from letter below(sent kia addresses-side note: without "outlook" you cannot contact kia support via e-mail, letter cut to nothing to meet word requirement) kia customer affairs (steve larez 800 225-3193) contacted me said they would look into it(21 apr 03).steve calls me back (22 apr 03) to inform me that he has talked to the distinct rep and that the best they would do was offer a windshield at wholesale cost.today, i write to you folks after seeing a similar compliant in your database (filed 30 aug 2001), note other similar 2002 sedona windshield complaints may be found at www.carsurvey.orgi am very concerned about replacing the windshield (again!) and having the same thing happen (again!).three windshields cracked in 18 months is not reasonable.or at least not to the prudent man.kia folks: 16 apr 03 i really need some help.bottomline:i have had 2002 kia sedona for less than 18 months the windshield has cracked for the third time * sept 01 (late) - bought the sedona. * oct 01 (~ mid) - windshield #1 cracked. No parts in the system for a 2002; kia did not cover the replacement * dec 01 - windshield, #2 installed* feb 02 - i-65 outside of louisville, windshield #2 cracks. * apr 02 '' kia bill penny goodwillswindshield #3 * mar 03 - i-565 towards decaturwindshield #3 cracks on all the windshields the cracks started in the black area near rubber seam. Some points: * our sedona is a great car, except the windshield* the internet has other 02 sedonas with the same windshield problems* three windshields cracking inside of 18 months is excessive - our sedona is our fourth van over 15 years. The other vans had one cracked windshield in 14 years.a couple of potential problems:- mounting procedures/techniques and or the design- windshield robustness (not designed to accepted industry standard)- my other kia''s (2) have no windshield problems

Front windshield shattered while driving. No injuries were reported. Dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information on this matter.

When usingwindshield wipers they cut into the windshield while in use.cut was in the shape of the windshield wiper arc. Contacted dealer, and t dealer stated that a rock did the damage.

Consumer called complaining about having problem with wipers not working properly when the weather is below zero. Please provide further information. Ts

Kia has informed us that our car will continue to need repairs since it was not designed to be driven on dirt roads. We live on a dirt road and drive many miles of dirt roads and now we are spending money replacing parts not protected from dirt due to faulty engineering design.
