I have a 2003 kia sedona. I have had to have the alternator replaced 2 times in a months time. The dealership is saying now that the connector to the fan has melted because the fan is pulling too much voltage. But from what i understand from others, the issue is the connector and not the fan? i hope they are able to find out what keeps causing these issues and can fix this asap! i am sick of spending my nights stranded on the side of the road! not to mention the financial strain it is placing on my family. Now i know why the previous owner traded in this junk with only 53,000 miles on it!

1)happened twice:car stopped suddenly after a beeping noise and engine light went on briefly.thermostat, thermostat gasket had to replaced twice in 7 months (repairs done on 5/11/10 and 12/13/2010). Note:engine flush 11/24/09; cooling system pressure tested 2/22/10, radiator flushes 6/8/09 and 7/30/10 in addition to lof every 3,000 miles) cooling system /corrosion issues/cooling system corrosion control kit installed:12/30/05 & 4/8/08,2) car careening and tipping when steering hard to right:front hub and wheel bearing, seal had to be replaced as well - 3 times (1/2/09; 12/13/10, 8/1/2011).3) car lost power on freeway due to bad alternator which discharged battery 6/23/06.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona ex. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked in a residential driveway when he heard the anti-theft alarm sounding. The contact was inside his home and observed the front driver's side window glowing from afar. Upon further inspection he found that the vehicle was on fire. The fire was extinguished. A police report was not filed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 108,000.

On 12/26/2011 we went out to the van (2003 kia sedona) and the car wouldn't start. The whole van smelled like melted plastic. I looked at the fuse box and the entire thing was melted along with the trim and carpet. I have pictures and a movie to show the extent of the damage. Kia of putnam connecticut refused responsibility. This is a serious safety issue. We were not even driving the car when it happened the issue happened overnight. If pictures are requested please email me at [xxx] thank you.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On tues. The 3rd of oct. 2006 i went to start my 2003 kia sedona and it would not start so aaa was called, they came and jumped the battery and it was all set to go. Thursday the 5th i noticed console near radio was hot to the touch. Friday oct. 6th 2006 i went to get into my car and i could not get the door open. I noticed the windshield was cracked and black. When i finally got into the car the drivers side was completely melted by a fire that occurred sometime in the middle of the night. The car was totaled by my insurance company, they are giving me cash value for it and now i am stuck with owing money on a car i don't have. They are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire. There must have been some kind of manufacturing defect. It was a 2003 and i purchased it only 6 months ago. No one was hurt but everything was damaged and i am at a loss and don't know what i can do.

We have a detached garage, at 4:00 am our dog woke us up to her barking. She could hear the van horn blowing.when i took her out, i saw the van lights flashing and the horn was blowing.i could not stop the horn with the keyless remote. I woke up my husband, when he opened the door the dashboard was all melted, windshield was cracked, the a/c unit going up the driver's door was all melted.he finally found a place to open the hood to disconnect the battery. The mechanism to open the hood was all melted as well. The van was totaled and the insurance company sent us $3900. The van was is great shape for being 11 years old.we had the van serviced as scheduled and it was always kept in the garage.we bought the van new and still live in the same house as when we bought it. So we should have received any recalls on the van.we wanted to check and see if there were any class action lawsuits pending. When we ran a search on others having the same problem, there were several listed. Some just as ours was, during the middle of the night.i don't have the vin at this time but i can find it at home in our insurance claim.any information you can give us is greatly appreciated.

This van has been a problem ever since i bought it. This is the 3rd time the brakes have been replaced, the cd player doesn't work any more. The alternator with out at 40,000 miles. The fuses inside keep blowing. The air controller in the back in falling out of the ceiling. I had to leave it with the dealership for over a week so that they could find the hesitation problem it was having when pulling out into traffic. It turned out to be the distributor cable, this was at about 17,000 miles and that was also the miles at the 2nd brakes job. It now makes a noise in the back of the van that sounds like a motorcycle is coming up behind you. I just hope whatever it is it doesn't blow like it sounds like it could. I bought this van because i have a 1 year old and a 4 year old so i really don't want to crash with such precious cargo. Thanks, rose ann.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona ex. The vehicle was parkedin the residence garage and the contact noticed the frontinterior and entire instrument panel melted severely. The vehicle was towed from the garage to a nearby location. The fire department wasnot called due to the fact that there was no smoke present or flames. The manufacturer was notified several times in which they advised the contact to tow the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis at the owner's expense. Ihad my sedona 2003, the power seat recall was made 4 months before the accident(fire start above fuse box), the dealer is not telling me the true about it, because there have not been any inspectors from kia motors coming down to inspect this minivan. There have been more than 6 months an they have not been able to start working one it or a simple as telling me why this happened.

We first got our (used) kia sedona oct. Of 2007. It had about 45,000 miles on it when we got it- and now it has about 74,000. 2 months into having it the check engine light would come on whenever the temperature dropped below 20 degrees(f). The check engine light would usually go off by the next day if it was warmer out or would stay on for up to 3 days if it was very cold)it started to buck a lot (about 6 months into having it) and we brought it to the shop and had the spark plugs, wires, boots, and coils replaced. About a month after those were replaced the catalytic converter went and we needed to replace that.the check engine light still comes on when the temperatures drop-but they cant figure out why.now the car stalls (and bucks) at various times for no reason. We've taken it to the shop but they cant find anything wrong with it.the radio will turn itself up all the way at different time (usually if idling).sometimes the radio stations will revert back to the presets so i have to reset all of the stations i had set. (this usually happens when it's cold out)we were stupid and bought the extended warranty (which doesn't cover anything that has gone wrong!- although the catalytic converter was covered by the original warranty)we owe too much on it to sell it or trade it in so now we're stuck with an unreliable vehicle that i am scared to drive my daughter around in- there's no telling where the car might stall next! what can we do?

2003 kia sedona which we bought brand new has had a problem almost since we purchased it, initially with running rough, then transmission into stalling, or loss of power and almost stalling, when accelerating onto a highway or other main thoroughfare where rapid acceleration is required for safe entry.we have brought the vehicle back to the dealership at which we purchased it numerous times.either they could not find the problem, or they made repairs which did not correct the problem.on october 4, 2006, my wife was driving it on a busy 4 lane road when it stalled and could not be started again, leaving her stranded in a dangerous situation.the dealership replaced the power control module this time, and we got it back today, october 6, in the late afternoon.i drove to a destination 17 miles away and back this evening.it stalled several times, and almost stalled several more times, while attempting to accelerate onto a highway or a major local road.i narrowly avoided getting into a serious accident several times tonight.this vehicle is defective and dangerous.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fluids abnormally. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who advised that the rear cooling pipes were corroded and leaking anti-freeze. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recalls and offered no additional assistance. The current and failure mileage was 85,000.updated 03/30/11

The icv valve clip in my 2003 kia sedona came loose and damaged the engine. Kia recalled the same clip in all sorentos from 2003-2005. My vehicle as less than 70,000 miles. The engine made a loud noise and stalled as i was driving. Luckily i was able to pull over and not cause an accident. Kia does not believe this is a serious issue.

Heavy fuel fumes in passenger compartment uphill.fuel fumes concentrate to the point of requiring the owner to stop the car to ventilate.this is a known problem in hot climate (temp over 95deg, southwestern states).the fumes seem to approach the idle.dealer knew of the problem; had customer paid fix.kia will not issue a recall to fix.cost is $175 to install tubing to direct fumes out of carbon filter assembly to rear of car.this should be fixed by kia.it is a dangerous situation for the occupants.i had repeated incidents with documentation of reports to two dealers.ultimately, a dealer had a partial repair for it. Dealer noted that, since issue is restricted to southwestern states in hot weather, kia would not fix it;letting customers pay for the repair.

I was driving my kia sedona 2003 ex one day and someone yelled at me that it was on fire.i immediately stopped and the fire came up through the windshield, also the bottom of the vehicle where the panel is.i proceeded to inform the dealer, because i had purchased it used on october 19, 2007 and this happened on march 10, 2008.the only reason why the dealer pretended to deal with it was because i had informed the dealer within less than a month of purchasing it of some details that needed attention, but they had kept putting it off.the dealer picked up the kia after 2 weeks from the incident and they fixed some holes that were burned, but only the ones i could see.i went various times because i kept having problems, they fixed the gears but, i kept having problems, everytime i went they pretended to fix something but did nothing.i found myself in a no win situation, all i could do was to try fixing things slowly.i had to put in the wire coverings myself, which were burned, also had to put in a new power steering holes, it is now one year later and the consequences have gotten worst, the dealer owner will not talk to me.to my dismay rubber parts burnt keep giving in; ex: the sealer for the valve cover, the two fan belts (i do have most old parts that were replaced).when the seal cover was replaced i realized that the dealer did not replace the most important parts; that being the oxygen sensor with the plugs which are totally burnt and the tps(sensor).the dealer owner will not take my calls and i can not afford to get this fixed, therefore, i am having problems with the exhaust system and a light turned on, i had it scanned and it reads the following:p0102 : low input circuit maf or vaf.pls advise i have spoken to daco and a lawyer but right now everything is on hold for me.and i can't believe how the owner of the dealer is not concerned when this vehicle is a family vehicle and i am disabled.

The hydraulics that keep the hood and the back of the van open are not working.so you are stuck holding them open (and they are very heavy) to put in groceries, etc.my daughter has hurt her head a couple of times trying to help me keep it open to get the groceries out.it is very dangerous to be doing this.the electrical system on the inside sometimes works, sometimes no.the back air adapter for the a/c keeps falling out of the ceiling.the a/c itself sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.the seats in the back keep coming undone.the van eats the tread of the tires even with constant replacement and rotations and balances.the sliding doors stick all the time and my daughters have all hurt them selves trying to get in or out from the sliding doors.i am afraid of cutting off fingers having to force it open or closed.the driver side door handle has a latch that broke so the handle is half on half off.now when i fill up on gas my van will jerk when i drive it out of the gas station for a good 20 mins.my gas gage moves!!i can see it decrease when i drive.the gas mileage was aprox. 18 mpg now it is down to 12!!!this car is a danger!!

2003 kia sedona ex passenger side sliding rear door outside handle broke.car only has 65,000 miles and is garage kept.i was unable to take my child out of the car seat promptly, and had to use the other sliding door, which was in the line of traffic.i found out even with the extended warranty i purchased.once the handle was removed from van, i found out it was made plastic, no wonder it broke, it needs to be made of stronger material, like metal.

We have an ongoing issue with our kia sedona.i've lost count how many times this has happened.i have had the van into two different kia dealerships and neither one can seem to find what the problem is. We purchased the van 12-2003 and starting having problems 09-2004.we will be driving the van and it will start a bucking action as if the transmission is confused about what it should be doing.if we are lucky, we can let off the gas and the bucking action will cease.there are other times when we let off the gas and it continues to buck.i've had a time when the bucking action started and it was so severe that our seat belts locked.it's bad when your son is in the back asking you what's wrong with our van.i also have problems with my van dying.i can be sitting at a light, stop sign or even drivingdown the road and it just quits.we have a serious issue here and are not getting any resolutions.i know it's not just a "female car issue" because it's happened to my husband and father while driving.i just want to get something resolved.i have a four year old son and nineteen month old son and safety is an issue for our family!i've tried just going through the dealerships and kia motors america, inc. But still have a van that doesn't run properly.even today as i was driving home with both the boys with me the van just died while driving down the road.thank the lord above nobody was behind me.i fear for our family's safety, those around us or even somebody else who owns a kia sedona with the same issue.something has to be done before somebody is seriously injured.i hope you will seriously consider looking into this issue before somebody is hurt.thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Transmission not shifting right was told 3 months after i had purchase this minivan i had low fluid i took it back many times and was the same till i started seeing transmission fluid in my drive way itook it to then dealer he said my axle sealwas bad they took over a week to repair itand never replaced the missing fluid i took it to another dealer and they charged me for the missing fluid kia was no help in this charge three months later i had to have the fluid changed at a charge to me because it smelled burnt.

There have been more than 6 months an they have not been able to start working one it or a simple as telling me why this happened.

The breaks were changed due to grinding com to find out there was 1bolt on the break calibers put them on and it still grinds and can not stop

Brake rotors warpingevery yearsince purchasing this minivan in 10/03 i have had to have my rotors changed every year due to warping the van has only 43,000 miles on it it to much already all parts were kiaoem parts purchase at a dealer.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling various speeds, the steering wheel shook when the brakes were applied.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who cleaned the brakes with a hardware kit.the problem recurred, and the brakes were cleaned two more times.a couple weeks later, the problem recurred again.the vehicle was back to the dealer, who suggested the rotors be cut.the problem recurred a fifth time, and the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop, who replaced the front rotors and shoes.the problem recurred 3-4 months later, and the front shoes were shot.the independent repair shop determined that the front brakes wore quickly because the rear brakes were defective.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who performed a diagnostics, and determined that the drums were out of round and the rear brakes needed to be replaced because the independent repair shop tightened them improperly.there were no further repairs made because the service dealer refused to perform work on the vehicle.

Brakes vibratingi have taken this van back to the dealerfor this problem since i have 1400 miles on the van each time they tell me warped rotors i have been driving for over 25 years and never had problem like this almost ever 6 months i have had to bring it in for until they changed the front pads with a new type at a cost of $230.00 at 13,000 miles 4/28/05 the problem seem to be fixed but after 10,000 miles its back 4/28/2006 one year to the date this needs to be checked.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona ex.when the contact attempts to turn the steering wheel, it will not automatically return to the proper position.the failure occurs intermittently.the dealer stated that the steering coupler assembly was beginning to freeze.the failure is caused by lack of lubrication that causes the coupler assembly to rust.as a result, the steering column locks into one position.the current and failure mileages were 103,000. Updated 04/03/08: kia did not make the steering coupler assembly with grease fittings and the steering is starting to freeze up intermittently making it impossible to guess when it's going to happen when turning the wheel while driving. It's very unnerving.

There been whining noise during accelerating and de-accelerate speed, i had someone look and thought i was braking system. Yesterday my son was driving it and turning right and we heard a pop, and the whole steering went out. We were almost killed on 134, he able back it up. Had someone else looks at it rack and pinion. There been msny claims and no recall why

Hard to steeron turning steering does not want to return also hard to turn at any speed. The u-joint on the steering intermediate shaft binded up without warning. The rack and pinion was replaced also.

On my 2003 kia sedona, i have replaced over 3 wheel bearings and have almost had an accident because the steering has locked up while i was driving on several occasions.

Vehicle was performing normally until a right hand turn was attempted at a street intersection at which time the steering wheel jammed at approximately the two o'clock position.it took all of my strength to get the wheel to turn past this position.once accomplished i again had the same difficulty returning to the twelve o'clock position.this situation caused the vehicle to drift into the opposite traffic lane.fortunately the lane had no oncoming traffic.the problem continued but i was able to get the vehicle to my mechanic's shop.they diagnosed the problem as a defective universal joint in the steering column (intermediate shaft).they also informed me that they had seen several cases recently involving the same vehicle and that the dealership had used up the four in stock for the same problem on 02 and 03 kia sedona vehicles.the part is currently on national back order because of demand.my vehicle is currently in the shop waiting for part availability.

My kia sedona 2003 ex was a great vehicle , until 12/20/2011 when the door handle on the sliding side door behind the driver broke off in my hand when i opened it.this was a huge surprise to me because i could not believe it came off in my hand.then on 12/31/2011 , i opened the passenger side front door and the screw came out and hit the ground and i could not find it.what going on , i've owned 4 cars and none of them had problems with the door handles.then the silver bumper on the front and the rear is fading terribly, this a wonderful vehicle but, i have never owned a car that the door handles fell off .now it is very inconvenient for me to open these 2 doors.this car has no children playing on the doors because i don't have any children , most of the time its just me ....is thereany remedy for this problem.i'm hoping that their is something you can do to help me with this matter.... I would like to thank you in advance for your time concerning this matter....

The contact stated that while driving she would hear a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the technician replaced the wheel bearings. After the repair the passenger front tire exploded. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility for inspection. Upon inspection a mechanic concluded that the vehicle needed an alignment.however, he added that because the wheel bearings were not only defective, they were improperly installed, therefore no repairs were made. The failure and current mileages were 72,000.

The contact owns a 2003 kia sedona ex.for quite a length of time, the contact noticed a humming noise in her vehicle that she thought may have been her tires.she then felt a vibration through the floor of the vehicle.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that her vin was not included in the recall pertaining to the wheel bearings.the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic shop and they informed her that the wheel bearing failure was so severe that the vehicle was unsafe to drive.the vehicle is currently at the mechanic shop.the current mileage was 86,355 and the failure mileage was unknown.the recall number was unknown.

The breaks were changed due to grinding com to find out there was 1bolt on the break calibers put them on and it still grinds and can not stop
