The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona ex. The contact stated the passenger side air bag lights constantly illuminates. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who inspected the air bags and stated the pretensioner wiring harness was installed incorrectly. The dealer informed her that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 84,900.
The airbags symbol has been remaining on.it was taken to many different shops but they say that it has to do with the airbags problem.there is nothing that these mechanics can do.so i was told to report this issue to kia.
On 2/11/11 my kia sedona airbag light went on and stayed on.upon extensive research, i've seen numerous complaints online on the same issue.on 2/28/11, i had the airbag module sensor replaced by a private mechanic.two weeks after being replaced, the airbag light went on again and stayed on.i have repaired/replaced thousands of dollars of parts on this kia, making it the most expensive vehicle i've ever owned in the past 32 years.i was told that with the airbag light always on, that in an accident my airbags will not deploy. I have 84,000 miles on this van.the only warranty remaining from kia is their 100,000/10 yr power train, which basically covers nothing.with all the complaints on this most extreme safety issue, and the fact that kia touts this vehicle as a 5 star safety rating, they should be "forced" to recall this apparent manufacturing defect.aside from brakes, airbag deployment is the second most important safety feature protecting its' driver and passengers. I am the original owner of this van and have kept it well maintained.
The airbag light is onall the time. No accident, no damage to the van.
The airbag light on the 2002 kia sedona has been on and the vehicle has been assessed many times. Per the mechanic at the dealership there is no way to identify if the airbag works or not. The entire system would have to be replaced which is very expensive. The electrical components to the hatchback have failed and the ability to open the hatchback has caused an issue with releasing the cage to drop the spare tire. Be prepared there is not a light that tells you the hatchback will not open which could lead to a multitude of problems while traveling at night. Especially if you have a tire failure while on the highway driving out of town on a weekend and go to open the hatch and it will not open, therefore the ability to use the spare is now null and void. Hopefully the cell phone you own has reception to call a tow truck to tow your car to the nearest town. Once there i hope the hotel left the light on because the tire store is not open at 10 pm.the brake light hardware is not bolted in properly- when i bought my van someone had actually used velcro to hold the brakelights/tailight covers in place. Which also consists of a headlight issue- when there is a lot of snow/rain i must replace the headlights every 6 to 8 weeks.
My 2002 kia sedona ex has a fault with the front passenger seat occupancy sensor. It makes the airbag light come on but worst of all in a head on collision the airbags will most likely not deploy.
The contact owned a 2002 kia sedona ex. While driving 45 mph, the contact crashed into the preceding vehicle. All the air bags failed to deploy. The police arrived at the scene, but a report was not filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an impound lot. The dealer was not contacted. The contact sustained injuries to the neck, lower back, left shoulder, and chest, which did not require medical attention. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona ex. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure occurred on several occasions and the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the front passenger's seat belt tightened and would not retract. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.
First had problems when the windows would not roll down or up.also, the door locks would click and not function.was under warranty and took the van to the dealer - they said they fixed it - next day when out of town the same thing happened.took the vehicle back in and they said there was a ground/short fault in the wiring of the door harness connected to the electrical system.they worked on it again and still not fixed.three weeks later - receive a safety recall notice about defective wiring under the seats and causing shorts and potential fires.two days later - all lights on the dash board come on - both low beam headlights blow.called the dealer and they say give me some nonsense about "this can't be related to any of the other problems."took the van into a non-kia service center and they tell me that the alternator is spiking and going out.they also inform me that the other problems will affect the entire electrical system especially if there is a short.i have read many other complaints about the electrical system of the kia and i believe that the vehicle is unsafe for general use - not just mine.this needs to be addressed.my window repair is still covered under warranty repair - the seats neglect/mis-wiring is under recall but my warranty is expired by 10,000 miles ( 74,000 ) miles currently.i am filing a complaint with attorney generals office, better business bureau and kia - possibly attorney involvement if(all) these issues are not fixed immediately by kia!
At approx. 3:55 a.m on the above date my step son woke up to the sound of a horn continuously blowing in our driveway. He looked out the window and saw flames coming from inside the cab of the listed vehicle. He ran into the bedroom and woke me and his mom up. I jumped up and ran outside to find my fiances van on fire as i ran back in the house to get the kids and her to get out of the trailer because the van was parked within 5 feet of it the drivers window busted and flames began rolling out of it. We called 911 and waited for the fire dept to get there to extinguish the fire. The van became fully involved and burned almost completely up. I found out later that day of a recall back in 2005 of possible fire danger caused by wiring in electric seats. I started thinking that may be what started because the drivers electric seat stopped working about 8 months ago. We bought the car used a couple years ago and never received any recall notices about it. What does her or i need to do. If this was in fact caused due to a recall we need to be replaced with another vehicle.

Takata recall.i was at home i heard some kind of noise out side like a horn blowing so i look out and my van was on fire on the drivers side and i ran for the hose to put it out then i called 911an the fire dept. Came an the arsson dept and he said it was in the seat to the fuss box and that's what caused the fire my car is totaled can you please let me know the whole van on drivers side is totaled i have no way to go now .
I notice that when i unbuckle my seatbelt, the warning light does not come on, nor does it chime. It does not matter if you are in drive and moving, or parked. The seat belt light won't illuminate, nor does the car chime. The only time the light illuminates is when you first start up the vehicle.i don't believe it ever has in the entire life of the vehicle. I now have over 102,500 miles on the vehicle.
I have had my 02 kia for 2 years. It ran great for a few 1000 miles but then it just went haywire. The problem that cost me the most time and money turned out to be the fuel pump. The kia dealer in charlseton sc originally told me that it was bad gas so i called to the gas station on the military base that i got gas from and raised sand. They pulled the whole pump and it turned out to begood gas so the government could not reimburse my money since it was not their fault.kia wanted to charge me 500 dollars to pull all the fuel components and dispose of a full tank of gas. Imagine that..i was without my van for 3 weeks since i was stranded on the interstate with 2 kids and my pregnant wife. I also had to get a rental car. Problems: 1. Fuel pump-stranded me for 3 weeks and some days ..new fuel pump2. New battery-vehicle died on me in florida. Thought alternator went out... 700 miles away from home. Towed through insurance and bought replacement battery would not jump start3. Front motor mount was went bad, heard clunking noise in front of vehicle. Twice to dealer, broke down, 1 week after getting it back..dealer fixed under warranty4. Front suspension struts replaced dealer replaced under warranty5. Ac went out in front ac still not fixed.. Dealer says that since aftermarket stereo is installed it is not covered by warranty 6. Alternator went out. Vehicle being serviced now. Estimated at around 600 dollars to fix by kia.
The van was on fire in my yard. Only the front drivers front side caught fire. When i found it it was blasing out of the door and windshield. I got the hose pipe an unhooked the battery to put the fire out. It melted the whole dashboard all the way to the radio steering wheel windshield only on drivers side all damage was at front drivers front side.i didn't drive the van alday that day.
My 2002 kia sedona caught fire on november 7, 2012.i was unaware of the existence of any recalls needed for my kia or that i was driving a vehicle that could start on fire at any time?..i have children and a grandchild that i transport!i should have been notified of the recall.i notified kia the day of the incident, provided all incident information and reports from the kirkland fire department, waited, and continued to do all that was asked of me by kia.over 2 months later i was told by michele hillegas, national consumer affairs analyst, that my vehicle was too old, wasn't under warranty anymore and hadn't been for quite some time so they would not compensate me for any loss.she also stated that if i had full coverage insurance this would have compensated me for my loss.recalls have nothing to do with the dealer warranty or my individual insurance that i carry on my vehicle.soon after i bought my kia in 2008 ipurchased an 50,000 mile extended vehicle warranty for my vehicle from a company known as endurance warranty which helped me maintain my vehicle in the best way it could be.this web link talks about the recall which my 2002 kia sedona ex needed??..http://www.ohiolemonlaw.com/safety-recall-17.shtmla few weeks prior to the fire, my electric front passenger seat stopped working.i believe now that a faulty engineering problem well documented by kia is the reason why that seat quit working and then eventually caused a short in the wiring ultimately causing the fire in the fuse box that destroyed my vehicle.since kia is required to perform recalled repairs to all kia vehicles involved in recalls that are in their possession (kia dealerships) and my rights as a kia owner were neglected, i believe i am lawfully entitled to be compensated for my loss in a fair and equitable manner.
2002 kia sedona minivan.purchased used feb 2006 w/32k miles from private owner. Most recent miles 59k. 2002 kia sedona ex, purchased 03/2008. My sister in law was driving my van on the highway when the vehicle stalled. She pulled over off the highway and went to restart the vehicle, to which in began to smoke and the whole front end went up in flames.
The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The vehicle was parked in the driveway and the wires from the driver side under the instrument panel caught fire. The inside of the vehicle was totally destroyed. The fire department extinguished the fire by also cutting the electrical wires from the instrument panel and stating that was the origin of the fire. A report was available if needed and there were no injuries. The contact did not contact her insurance company, the dealer or the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 80,000.

I own a 2002 kia sedona. I purchased it in february and was fine until a month later. I was on my way to work and i got on the highway and the van stalled and just shut down. After about 5 minutes later it restarted then shut off again about 3 miles down the highway. I had the fuel pump and camshaft replaced but it still will not start. Then the battery stopped working. I replaced that and it still will not work. I called kia and because it is out of warranty they would not help. The dealership is way too expensive being that i am a single parent i cannot afford their prices. Kia customer service is very bad and will not helpwith anything. After searching online i have came to a conclusion that this is a very common problem and there hasn't been one fix to it. I don't have the ability to go out and purchase another vehicle and just want this one fixed. Please help!
My husband drove our kia sedona ex to work & parked it in the parking lot. About 30 minutes later, a colleague noticed the van enveloped by flames - burning so intensely that the windshield melted! fire dept came, broke windows, and put out fire, which they noted originated in dashboard, but traveled throughout the car. The vehicle was totaled, but our insurance (allstate) didn't really offer us enough to sufficiently replace it. We have appealed to kia. We loved our sedona before this happened.

The rear anti-freeze line of my 2002 kia sedona rusted through at 70,000 miles causing a severe leak and eventual terminal engine failure.there was no over heating warning alarm built in as a safety precaution.dealer determined that the lines were not defective so it was not covered under warranty.regional kia service rep was very disrespectful.kia did nothing to help and it cost $4,000 to replace the engine with a used one.
The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. While the contact was driving 65mph he noticed that the engine suddenly stalled for a short period and then corrected itself. The vehicle was taken tothe dealership where the contact had the catylatic converter replaced; however, after the repairs the contact experienced the same failure followed by the engine light appearing on thedashboard. There were no prior warnings . The current mileage was 106,000 and the failure mileage was at 3000.

Dt*: the consumer stated there were metal shavings in the gas tank of the vehicle. This caused the fuel pump to fail because the fuel pump was inside the gas tank. The dealership replaced the fuel pump, but was unable to determine how the shavings got into the tank.updated 2/24/2006 - the consumer still has the faulty pump and some of the metal shavings in his possession.
Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle stalled andwas hard to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who determined there were metal shavings in the gas tank. As a result the fuel pump, filter and pre-filter were replaced.the tank was inspected for any remaining metal shavings.updated 02/02/06.

2002 kia sedona- passenger front inside door handle - the chrome peeled off the door handle at the bottom edge that was not visible to the eye- when i exited the door the peeled chrome sliced my thumb requiring immediate medical care-if these handles are susceptibleto peeling kia needs to have these changed- no one should have this happen to them.
The parking brake on my van will not hold it in place properly. It has been that way since i bought it as a demo with 2,400 miles. I complained about it within the first few weeks of owning it. The dealer service department tried to tighten it, and they ended up breaking it. A new one was installed, and it feels just like the old one. I depress the pedal down to the floor, and when i shift into drive or reverse, the vehicle moves. If i give it a little bit of gas, the car will roll. I just made up my mind that my van does not have a working parking brake.
Parking brake does not function. I first noticed this when parking to pick up my daughter (slight incline). After putting the vehicle in park and depressing the parking brake, the vehicle would slightly roll. When i got home, i stopped on an incline, put car in neutral, activated the parking brake and let go of the 4 wheel brakes... The vehicle rolled with absolutely no resistance. Contacted the dealer, said it was not a warranty item.

Driving down the road and when you brake to slow down the transmission down shifts faster then it should and on snow covered road the front starts to slide when it does this and when it shifts back up it vibrates other then that its fine any idea what the problem could
I own a 2002 kia sedona, and 2 times now the transmission linkage has totally seized.the first time this happened was last winter, and the vehicle had to be towed to the repair shop.now again in novemeber it has happened.i was able to drive the vehicle to the repair shop but once there, the vehicle would not go into gear at all.it was actually towed into the bay for repairs.each repair was over 300.00 cdn.

I had a few occasions where the middle row seatbelts locked up and it took awhile for them to unlock so i could buckle my children in. Over a week ago one locked up and we couldn't get it to unlock. I had to take my car to the dealership and it turned out i needed to have three (both middle row one rear row) seatbelt replaced. All not covered under warranty.
I notice that when i unbuckle my seatbelt, the warning light does not come on, nor does it chime. It does not matter if you are in drive and moving, or parked.
Dt*: the contact stated the front passenger side seat belt latch jammed and will not release.the dealership is aware and informed the contact there were not any recalls on the seat belts.
Son went to unbuckle himself and seatbelt buckle came off.the cable linking the seat belt buckle to the floor severed.kia replaced free of charge, advised me that this would be the only replacement of seat belt defect without charging me.
The contact owns a 2002 kia sedona. The wiring under the passenger front seatmade contact with a metal seat component, which caused a shortage in the junction box. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and they informed him that they have to repair the wires and replace the junction box. Since the previous owner receive the free remedy outlined in recall # 05v463000,( seats) he was ineligible for a free remedy.the failure mileage 118,000.the consumer stated kia agreed to fix the vehicle at their expense.updated 11/17/09

Dt*: the contact stated, while driving at 65 mph and attempting to adjust the driver side electric seat, the switch malfunctioned.the seat slid completely to the front of the track, forcing the driver against the steering wheel.
Dt: the contact stated there was nhtsa recall campaign05v463000 concerning thepower seats. This vehicle was experiencing the same problemas indicated in the recall, but was not included in the recall due to vin.the contact repaired the vehicle at his own expense.
2002 kia sedona minivan.purchased used feb 2006 w/32k miles from private owner. Most recent miles 59k. Caught fire while parked in garage and is totaled.have had electrical problems including electric seat stop functioning, and dead battery whenever parked for more than 5 days.replaced the battery, replaced the alternator, replaced the serpentine belt.on 11/17/07 after 6-months of the seat not working, the drivers side electric seat controls suddenly began to work again, a few hours later the van caught fire (drivers side door and dash) and burned the interior.insurance declared it totaled.
The third row back seat folded with such force it throw me into the back of the seat in front of me.it bruised my face, my teeth cut the inside of my mouth, my forehead got a lump from the force of the impact. We was at my home getting ready for a trip so it was not time for the seat belts.i had to eat soft food for seven days, use peroxide mouthwash for the sores and use ice packs for several days.i contacted kia to see if there was a recall for this problem stating that if this had been a small child (i weigh 120) there could have been some serious facial damage.i was told there was no recall for the back of the seat folding so hard and they asked for me to send a few pictures of my face.after viewing the pictures i received a call from kia to verify my address for them to send me $100 to 'maybe take my husband out to dinner'. I declined such an offer after the 13 days i'd been through. I explained my concern about someone getting hurt from this happening again and my insurance company had told me to report this for further investigation because they were liable for any injuries.the kia representative told me to 'make sure i warn anybody that seats in any of the back seats that the back part of the seat could fold with force.'i suggested kia buymy van so they could really find out why this happened and that it could not happen again.this was the first time i had ever used the third row of seats and had no idea the seats folded so fast and hard.kia declined to buy my van then offered to make an appointment to have the van checked out at my expense.
Brakes failed .
I have had an ongoing problem with the brakes period.i have had the parking brake replaced due to not working.i have also gone through four sets of rotors in 90,000 miles.the reason is because shortly after being replaced when braking the entire car begins to shake violently until the speed reaches below 40 mph or so.i have had the tires replaced also due to their recommendation that it was the tires possibly.i am tired of replacing all the parts for it to just come back shortly after.the dealer has also eluded that this is a broad issue amongst owners.please help.
2002 kia sedona abs began engaging when brakes applied at low speeds.weather was never a factor.unable to stop vehicle without pumping brakes.three near miss accidents before taking the van into kia dealership where i was told that my vehicle wasn't part of the 2003 recall for this problem even though they agreed they were able to duplicate the problem and that it appeared to be the same problem.

Inside door handle, driver's side. The chrome coating started to peel off from the inside, bottom edge of the handle. It is a thick metal-like coating, that separated from the handle approximately 1/16". One day i opened the door while i was sitting inside the car, and the tip of my left forefinger (fingerprint area) was cut by this chrome coating. The cut was about 1/2" long and about 1/32" deep, enough to make me bleed for about 10 mins.

I was driving on the freeway with the cruise control at aprox 70 mph then i deactivated it by stepping on the brake pedal, a few minutes later the cruise control activated by its self. This happened three times in a period of three weeks. The first two times the cruise deactivated after stepping on the bake pedal. But the third time was the scary one. After leaving the freeway and entering the city, the cruise control accelerated the kia sedona to aprox 72 mph in the city. The bake pedal did not deactivate the cruise control and the engine started to over power the brakes. A few seconds later i realized there was a main on off switch on the dash of the vehicle, so i turned it off, witch turned the cruise control. I was very lucky to have stopped the van, as i was very close to a heavy intersection. After that kia sedona every know and then i could not get the shift lever out of park, i had to stick a pencil in to the shift release hole to drive the van. I discovered that the brake pedal switch was faulty, not covered under warranty. The cruise is also not covered. So i no longer use the cruise and i warn everybody using the van of its ability to take off after use of the cruise control.
My issue is with the ventilation system on the car. When it is used for a longer period of time the following problem occurs:you here the blower blowing air, but when when you check the vents by the front windshield there isn't any air coming out. When you change the vent from the windshield to floor, there is not air coming out. Note: that only happens after longer usage time.when the car isn't used for a hour or so, everything works again. I have had this problem with this car for the past 3 1/2 years.it has been at the deal with this issue over 5 times and every time i have taken the car in to be check, the deal could not find anything wrong. They would just change a part or two or nothing at all and say there is nothing wrong.i have been told by privately owned mechanic that the issue may be with a defective vacuum part that allows the air to be witched .at this point i just do not know what to do with this issue.
