Rio slid terrible after trying to go around a stopped vehicle and the steering was loose and when we hit the trailer on the side. The air bag on drivers side did not deploy and the passenger bag busted the passenger's sternum and a sharp metal piece appears to be in her leg as some were removed. In addition, the seat belt would not come unhooked as she was pinned tight in the car. A truck driver whostopped before he hit us by running down the road had to cut the seat belt as passenger in shock. Unresponsive braking and airbags have not deployed in two separate collisions where i ran into the back of another vehicle that was stopped on city streets where i was driving 25 mph in the first collision and 35 mph in the second.
I was involved in a front to rear car accident. My kia did not have enough time to brake when the vehicle in front of me (a honda) stopped suddenly. During the incident my kia hit the honda's rear twice (two impact moments) - after the first impact in a moment of panic i hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and hit the honda once more. The airbags did not go off (my safety concern/complaint). I was glad the air bags did not go off because the gases they release affect my asthma. However, if there was a passenger with me they may have been injured on the dashboard and i also could have been injured by the steering wheel since the air bags did not go off. The entire front of my kia was ruined: the hood was crumpled, the front bumper came off. The head lights were smashed, and the front sides of the body were cracked out of place. There was a crack in the box attached to the steering wheel as if it was going to open to release the air bags but nothing happened. I am not sure how much stronger the impact needed to be in order to trigger the sensor for the airbags - the impact was pretty intense. I do have images of the impact to my vehicle if it will be helpful to understand why the airbags did not release.

Hi my car caught fire!! the car began smoking thick white smoke through the air conditioning and when we pulled off the street and opened the hood the car was in fire. I really don't feel safe in that car. This would be the 4th time i take it to the dealer. First 3 times was for the air container not working properly, evaporator and some other parts were replaced and now it went up in flames. They say the car is fine but i just don't feel safe any more. This happened 6/29/15 my car is only 8 months old i bought it 10/27/14. I am very concern for other people who have this same car it is not safe.

I was driving my 2014 kia rio to work at approximately 7 am this morning with no noticeable problems until halfway to work which would be approx. 30 miles into my 52 mile drive. After i made a turn from a stop light, i noticed a weird smell as i drove and decided to stop the vehicle and check it out. 1st, i glanced in my rear view mirror, checking for any other cars before i pulled over, then everything else followed so quickly: saw smoke coming from the rear of my car, immediately hitting the brakes, which were not working now, smoke coming from the hood of the engine, using emergency brake, and the finally coming to a stop where i got out quickly as possible as the engine was engulfing the car in flames. I have no clue as to what has caused this. Note: there were no indications, such as check engine light, coolant temp, or any dash indicators, just weird smell and loss of brakes. I am including several photos.

I was driving down a suburban street when my car engine caught on fire.i was able to stop and get out of the car safely.although i had put the car in park and used the emergency brake, it rolled down the street until it hit a telephone pole, which it set on fire.the fire was primarily on the driver's side of the car.i had no reason to expect this fire to happen.a firefighter told me it should not have happened, and to do my due diligence.
I commute to work for 2-3 hours a day. On 12 july 2019 i was traveling to work on the beltway (695 north toward 95 north) and i heard something sounding like a hard pop or thumb and my car started to shut down in the middle of the beltway. I was able to get it to the shoulder of the road where it completely shut off and would not start again. I called a towing company to have my car towed back home because i had no idea what was going on or what was wrong. Later during the week i had my car towed to a mechanic who then told me the problem was the engine and it had to be replaced. I am so frustrated right now. This is my only means of transportation. My issurance company covers nothing. I have to pay for towings, i will have to pay for labor and repairs myself, while still making car payments and insurance payments. This is more than a serious burden on me. I am 62 years old and the stress of this whole situation is becoming unbearable. No, i don't have a husband, or children or signifcant other to help me. It is me and me alone who has to come up with money that i do not have. I have been home from work for a week, ever since this happened. I can not afford to miss another day, but i have no transportation to get there. Was there a recall on my car for engine problems?

Pumping gas into gas tank and the gas was on the ground because the gas tank was never sealed was riding the car for 10 days and the original gas that was put in the car from dealer so the 1st time putting gas in the tank the gas was pouring out and loss the $23 worth of gas but i could have lost my life leaving the dealership because there was no warning from car about any gas leak issue or faulty gas line or tank not sealed this is dangerous and this was 2014 kia rio lx.

On many occasions, since we purchased this 2014 kia rio, it has had a horrible, intense odor of gasoline that is so strong it overwhelms anyone near it.it starts after 20-30 minutes of driving.i have taken it to the dealer 4 or 5 times and the workers can not find anything wrong with it.one one occasion, the mechanics changed something called the purge canister but the problem continues. I read on the nhtsa that at least two other car owners complained of the same.i have a new born and a 7 year old and i no longer feel safe in this car.the car was purchased for my daughter who has two

I am a food delivery driver. I was making a delivery to a regular customer. I was outside his side door, talking. I was out of my 2014 kia rio for approximately 1 and 1/2 to 2 minutes, talking with the customer. Suddenly, i am on the ground. I look to see a tires run over my foot. The customer chased after the car, it crashed intoo his parked car. That's when i noticed itwas my car that ran me over. We called the oak creek police. Both the customer and i believe--due to the length of time i was out of the vehicle and talking to him--that the car (which was running) popped out of park and drove forward. I was approaximately 10-15 feet from the car when i was run over and his car was approximately 30 feet from my car. I went to the hospital; they believe i have a fracture to the head of my fibula (they only x-rayed from my right kneee down because that was what looked the worst). More injuries were suffered. I have to do a follow up with an orthopedic specialist on nov 13th. I went back to the scene with my vid camera. Parked in the spot i was when the accident happened, took my foot off the brake and left it in drive. The car auotmaically accelerated. If it would have been my mistake and i accidentally left car in drive, it seems as if my car would have beat me to the customers door and i definitely would have noticed my car following me. No police report as of yet, but even the customer told the officer he believed the car had to have been in park and that it had slipped out of gear.
This is now my second complaint regarding my 2014 kia rio, for the same issue, happening within a span of two weeks. The first incident occurred on thur, 10/29/15. This second incident occurred on monday, 11/08/15. Once again, my car, while it was running and in park, slipped out of gear and into drive. This time, i was out of the vehicle for up to 4 minutes (inside of a disabled customers house, out of sight from th vehicle). I returned to find my car in drive. Luckily, affter the 10/129 incident where it slipped out of gear, i have either been shutting my vehicle off (i try not to because of wear and tear on the starter) or i use the emergency brake. Luckily, i used the e-brake on 11/08, or else it would have crashed into another car. (the 10/29 incident, my car slipped out of gear, knocked me to the ground ran me over--injuring me and crashed into a parked vehicle. After the 10/29 incident, i went to the customers home, parked in the same spot (and a few others, brought the vehicle to a complete stop and took my foot off the brake but left it in drive (to see if it was my error). The vehicle immediately started to accelarrate from each test position, so if i woul dhave been my fault, odds are, my car would have met me at the customers door and not wait to minutes to run me over). I video-taped the tests. I am also having a hard time getting kia on the phone, to get authorization to have the car checked out by the dealer

Was having an engine light problem, ended up having the catalytic converter replaced under warranty. Now i am being told that my front brakes are like new and my rear brakes need to be replaced? i asked how this could happen and i was told it is odd and not likely but i needed to replace them. There has to be a malfunction form y back brakes to wear down and not have the front wear down at all

Manual transmission so i set the parking brake whenever turning off the engine.brakes stick due to rust whenever it sits a long time or when it gets wet due to heavy rain or snow.vehicle is parked.this happens often.dealer can clean and oil brake but cannot keep this from happening.

2014 kia rio.consumer writes in regards to vehicle front plastic grill deterioration.the consumer stated the deterioration was caused by squirrels biting the plastic grill. The dealer informed the consumer, it was not a manufacturing defect. However, the consumer disagreed by stating, cheap plastic was used. After every rain event, my vehicle experiences water leaks in trunk from top of trunk and driver side of trunk. I have been unsuccessful (after several months of trying) to find where water is coming in at. Vehicle was stationary. Obviously, over time the moisture in the trunk can cause damage to brake light/tail light wiring, etc.

I was driving 35 mph on a six lane commercial road (three lanes in each direction) when the vehicle suddenly decelerated to below 20 mph. The cars around me had to swerve to avoid hitting me, and i had to turn on the hazard lights to warn the surrounding vehicles. I tried pressing on the gas several times, but the speed would not go above 20 mph. However, the rpms were going above the red line (above 6,000) and the engine was revving very loud. The speed of the vehicle did not go above 20 mph for the next fifteen minutes of driving. I slowly made my way to a safe place to stop the car and pulled over. I turned off the car and waited for several minutes. I turned the car back on again and the speed control returned to normal. However, i am no longer comfortable driving the car, as the sudden deceleration may occur again. Maryland law requires that a vehicle on the highway must have a speed capability that exceeds the speed limit by 5 mph. The sudden deceleration and inability of the kia rio to speed up again means this vehicle has a defect that is in violation on maryland law. The sudden deceleration of the vehicle in fast moving traffic put my life in danger, and i'm filing this report so a public record exists that this problem has occurred with a kia rio (4s) 2014 model.

The contact owns a 2014 kia rio. The contact stated that the driver's side rear wheel appeared to lean outward. The dealer rotated the tires but the failure was not corrected. The dealer also stated that the vehicle was functioning as designed. The failure mileage was 800 and the current mileage was 3,011updated 6/17/14
