While driving, below speed limit, the back tire slid on some slush. When i tapped the break the electronic slip control kicked on, locking the steering wheel, causing the throttle to cut off without slowing down or changing gears, and the breaks instantly started jumping, i at this point had absolutely no control over the vehicle. The car went off the road, hitting a cement post, my head bounced off of the steering wheel, continued to crash forward coming to a rest on top of a rock wall, that is when the airbag deployed causing a severe neck sprain. At this time the rear wheel was not even on the ground as i had been launched to a teetering position, the engine had been cracked, fluids leaking everywhere when i noticed a strange colored smoke and the engine still running. A witness quickly advised me to cut the engine off and get out of the vehicle as quickly as possible. I was only driving approximately 32 mph in a 35 zone on a left handed curve, the car was launched off the road to the right.
My daughter was in a collision, going about 40 mph, and the airbags did not deploy, she is very lucky that the windshield did not bust otherwise she would have been hurt.
The vehicle started idling roughly and the check engine light came on. Stopped atthe nearest automobile center, theyinspected the vehicle and indicated that there maybe a defect to the engine and that my engine may need to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph the front driver seat air bag and driver side front and rear curtain air bags deployed independently although no collision had occurred. The vehicle was towed to the home. No injuries were reported. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
No incident occurred. My airbag light has been on for the past 2 months but no impact occurred to my vehicle
I was in an accident i was at a stoplight and i was hit from behind 1/3 car hit the second car in the second car hit me stopped at a light in the airbag did not deploy i have a traumatic brain injury from it the car has already been fixed from the accident and now is at kia of canton because it's through a ride which is a recall but from the accident i am now unable to work or do anything
The vehicle was involved in an fatal accident vehicle collided with a standing tree then overturn onto it roof the frontal airbags driver and passenger never deployed very concerning
This car has been in 2 front end collisions both at different rates of speed. The air bags have never deployed. It was fixed both times by professional shops and inspected by a kia carlotta where they cleared codes on faulty air bags and told me it was no big deal. I want this matter looked into further. I have children and need my air bags to work.
My vehicle has a recall on it. With takata airbags on my vehicle 2015 kia optima lx sedan 4 door. And the dealer ship doesn't want to fix the problem with my car.
Airbag light keep coming on,check engine light keep coming on
The contact owned a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated while driving 30 mph and she had run a red light, she t-boned another vehicle. The contact stated the air bags deployed partially. The contact sustained 2 broken right ribs, left collar bone was sprained, the right knee and right foot was fractured. The contact was taken to the emergency room to seek medical attention. The contact was not aware if anyone was injured in the other vehicle. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The insurance deemed the vehicle total. The vehicle was towed to impound lot. The contact called local dealer mike miller auto park (2007 w pioneer pkwy, peoria, il 61615: (309) 693-1222) and was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The blue tooth for the phone if allowed to ring can cause one to loose control. The ring can go well past 100 db. If we forget to turn our blue tooth off it actually hurts.
Vehicle burst into flames without provocation. Vehicle was in perfect, pristine condition. Was in vehicle 5 minutes on way to work in am. Vehicle was being driven approx 5 miles per hour on a busy main road. Slowed down to stop at red light and the car died, instrument panel started flashing and engine burst into flames.
I had just reached my destination.after being parked for approximately 30 - 45 minutes when i tried to crank up to leave.i put it in the drive gear and it would not move forward or backward when put in the reverse gear; then i had it towed.then when attempted to crank it; it caught a fire and destroyed all of the motor, and most of the car before the fire could be extinguished
I bought a 2015 kia optima ex brand new off the lot in october 2014. Since then i have had to replace both drivers side and passenger side window regulator modules. The first one that broke (passenger) in march 2016 and was told because the window shattered its not covered under warranty. To replace the module and window it was $700. The drivers side window regulator went bad in july 2017. That was $250 to replace since the window stayed in tact. Here we are november 2018 and for the second time the passenger side regulator has gone bad. That's 3 times i have replaced the same part with kia genuine parts (purchased from kia) in 4 years. I have done extensive research and many other people have had issues with the same thing.
Tire sensor keeps going off. No damages to tire or no loss of air. When i put air in it goes off. A few days later sensor goes on again. It's been about a month.
Takata recalljust pulled into my job car was in parked. Car was still running had about 45mins to spare before clocking in. Notice the car begin to smoke as i'm sitting preparing my self for work. No warning signs appeared to notify me that the car was overheating. Turned the engine off to see if car will cool down. Smoke seemed to get heavier. I got out the car and seen there was fire underneath.immediately i notified emergency officials. Good samaritans helped put out the fire. Emergency officials say it was electrical that caused it.
Driving north bound on the 405 at freeway speeds, the vehicle showed several warning lights on the dash. Check engine light, oil light and 2 others, the vehicle lost engine power and only had brakes. I was able to shuffle off the main freeway to an off ramp where i pulled over to attempt to power the car back on. The smell of electrical fire started to become apparent and i went out to lift the hood and smoke began to come out the opening. I rushed to get my kids out the vehicle and attempted to pull the battery cable off to try to salvage it from catching fire. I was able to wiggle the battery cable off but smoke continued to come out.the vehicle was eventually dropped off at the dealership car pros kia in glendale and im being informed the starter was the issue and will need to be replaced. Im uncertain about the diagnosis since the event of the vehicle losing all power occurred during highway driving .
I purchased a new 2015 kia optima. Completed regular maintanence on it, and the engine failed (locked up) at 138,000 miles.later, i was advised the 2015 kia optima and other kia's were found to have faulty engines.kia did not offer assistance at the time, but are now offering assistance since i have traded the kia with a locked motor.i have been given the run-around for weeks and today a "regional manger" called and offered zero assistance and basically told me the faulty motor was not their problem. When the motor locked up, i was passing a car on the highway. The optima stalled while i was in on-coming traffic, and then the motor died.i was able to pull over safetly, and the car smelt like an electrical fire, it never started again.
When you accelerate, for example to pass another vehicle, the vehicle will completely shut off, all lights illuminating on the panel the vehicle. The vehicle must be placed in park and restarted. Sometimes it starts right away, sometimes it takes a few minutes.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that all electrical indication in side the vehicle failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to mike shaw kia (6802 s padre island dr, corpus christi, tx 78412(361) 204-2731) where it was inspected and diagnosed where it was determined that the rear passenger seat was burnt due to a wire harness connection. The vehicle rear passenger seat was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
I was driving on the highway and my car told me to pull over and check the engine. I pull over, wait a little while, and try to start it again. It doesn't start. They have someone come out to jump it, and it looks like we're good. I start to drive away and merge back onto the highway. Almost immediately i loose power--- i have no control over the gas, the brakes, the steering wheel is stiffening up. I am somehow able to put it in neutral, barely get over to the right shoulder, and then use my emergency brakes. This was an incredibly dangerous situation, and could have easily killed me. I just had it serviced the day before so i took it back. It turns out the hybrid fuse went out. I look it up online and this has happened to other people! i informed another kia dealer and they were also unaware of this. It's incredibly unsafe and my life was endangered.
Car won't start when you push to start with brakes
Was driving down main road approaching redlighy and brake pedal went to stiff and car shut off while rolling. Could not get to start again and smelt electrical burning somewhere. Had to beg car towed home. Tried jumping with a jump box to eliminate battery and it was not issue.almost rear ended vehicle infront and was stranded on side of main road.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 20 mph, the engine seized. The contact pulled the vehicle over, but it would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The vehicle was taken to arapahoe kia (9701 e arapahoe rd, centennial, co 80112, (720) 262-9111) where it was diagnosed that a computer update was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.
I was headed to ky december 2020 to visit my father. The car started making rattling noise. As i hit the gas petal, the car was stopping in on coming 1-65 traffic heading north. I pulled over and had to call my insurance company to tow to the nearest auto repair shop. I was nearly 50 miles from bowling green kentucky (12-23-20). I called my insurance and we set up arrangements for towing to pick up the next morning (less than 24 hours- christmas eve). Within less than 24 hours, the car was impounded by kentucky police near glasgow, ky. After paying towing fees and tickets, i finally got my car to auto company to run diagnostics report. After completion, i found out the engine failed along with more stuff. I immediately called the dealer who sold me the car (kia-huntsville, al) to ask for advice on next steps. He told me to contact the nearest kia service department near where the car was immediately to get it fixed because of the recall on the vehicle. The car was finally towed to martin kia (bowling green kentucky). They put me in line to have the vehicle properly and completely fixed. On january 4, 2021 the vehicle was in kia possession to fix recall repairs. March 6, 2021 i was scheduled to pick up the vehicle because it was promised that the vehicle is completed. After picking up the car, i had to wait 45minutes because my car was locked and tire light came on. I was pulled to side and told the vehicle was fixed by brand new employee and to check to make sure a engine light does not come on because if so, it's probably the new hire fault for it messing up. After all of that, i was headed home and the car stopped a second time! after contacting local police, i was told to go back to kia to return the keys and make them tow the vehicle to get it off of the interstate.
Takata recall: driving the car down a city street when it suddenly ceased to accelerate. The power steering stopped as it coasted into a side street to get off the busy road. I could smell wires burning as a electrical fire.i immediately got myself and family out of the car afraid it was on fire. The inside of the car filled with electrical smell and smoke.i called the 360 kia to have the car towed to the dealership since i bought a "gold" warranty when i purchased the vehiclethey literally lost my car for six days and then called me wanting my service records stating the car had no oil in the motor. This is a outlandish lie! my car had plenty of oil in it ...i never saw a engine light come on indicating that i had motor problems nor did i smell oil . This was a "sudden " malfunction. My car never ran hot nor did my gauges ever indicate a problem. I had the car for right at 40k miles and had a oil change due again at the end of april.
My daughter was driving down main street when everything shut off, electrical, motor, steering wheel locked up . She coasted to the side of the road , a man pulled over to help her after 20 mins the car was as able to start again.3rd time this has happened.very scary .
I was driving the road when out of the sudden the engine stops and sometimes turns on on itself, its seems like the engine locks and the cars stops suddenly.it also happens and i turn on intersections, when i accelerate to gain speed it turns off and i have to put the car on neutral and turn it on. On all of these occasions my family traveling with me.
Oil light sensors aren't working
Shark fin antenna cover fell off. This is reported to happen to many 2015 kia optimas. There is no replacement fin and to fix the issue a whole antenna kit has to be installed. Apparently the screws that hold the antenna fin down rust overtime and eventually cause the fin to pop off. This presents a problem that would allow water to enter the vehicle and cause damage.
I have two kia, one 2013kia soul, and kia optima 2015, first the kia soul won't start, looks like no battery at all, dealer say it was a bad battery, but the problem start again, just this time loose all power when running, they towing back to the dealer this time, they say this time was crank piston sensor, no cost at this time, this happen on 08/01/2016, now the kia optima, same, i drive all morning, the day was hot, and i stop at the storefor water, don't take more then 5min. When i get back to my car, cars unlock the door, but have no power at all, i check the battery with a fluke multimeter, reads 12 volts when i disconnect the negative post, and 6 volts when i connected back to the battery, then my friend stop by, and jumpstart my car, same thing, i disconnect the negative post and i take chassis ground for the jumpstart, same thing, then i took of the battery from a chevy 2002 silverado, my friends truck, and i connected direct to my car, same thing, i ended to call road side assistance for kia motor, to take it to the kia dealer, the towing truck driver say, they pickup a lot of kia's cars for the same reason, this time happen on 04/05/2017, i did claim to kia motor, they say was the battery, and i just think they want sale a 300 and something battery, and a have to buy a new battery every two years, with the new kia and hyundai recalls i think they should recall this two cars!!
Vehicle had service light on for engine. I took it to the dealership and they said it's ok to drive today until they service in the morning. They had a sensor show for the heuc. I drove 10 miles approximately half on freeway and at full 65mph the car made a very loud electrical noise and lost full drive power. I was able to safely avoid getting hit at full freeway speeds in rush hour and able to get on shoulder and exit ramp. Car turned back on and would not exceed 15mph at the light and was towed today directly to the dealership for further inquiry.
On 3-14-2021 about 225pm i was attempting to merge onto the i10 freeway in ontario california, while merging all the lights on the dash lit up and the car proceeded to shut off and my speed was going down . I attempted to pull over off the shoulder of the freeway, once i was stopped i turned the car off. The car than was engulfed with smoke and flames i jumped out the car and the car lit up in flames. I called ontario police and fire department.
The brake lights would not go off when i turned my car off. This ended up killing my battery. When i got the battery recharged it allowed the car to start without the brakes being pushed in. Also i noticed that the stopper had broken. This allowed the computer to think that the brakes were engaged even though the peddle wasn't pushed.
I purchased my car in bellevue ne i tried taking it back within the first week. They told me everything was fine and sent me to edwards kia in council bluffs ia. My brakes and rotors were horrible and needed to be replaced they in ne said they were completely fine. It cost $600 to repair. The bellevue manager asked me what i expected him to do about it. They let me leave the lot without inspection my car. Then i had a motor recall my engine light was flashing and it wouldn't accelerate this has now happened 3 times in the last 30 days. Edwards kia in council bluffs currently have had my car for 2 weeks and tell me that it could be an additional 6 weeks before i get it retired to me
Both of my headlights on my 2015 kia optima have stopped working on low beam i have fog lights but i can't see maybe 20 feet in front of me it's already caused me to almost have one wreck i was in the middle of an interstate when my lights went out

The contact was informed that an unknown component needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The contact also stated the vehicle was gain taken to alm kia south to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
Takata recall.as i was driving on the highway, my car stopped on me during traffic flow. This has happened more than five times and i was almost killed with my small children in the vehicle. We have been suffering with this issue for over a whole year. On july 3,2017 my mother and i was coming home on the fwy and once again, during traffic flow, my car shut off while driving on the road. Luckily, i was able to pull over to get a safe spot before i crashed because there were so many cars coming behind me so fast and the side ramps we're very narrow. I have taken it in for servicing but for some reason, they are not able to find out what the problem is. I have taking it in and even left with them for almost a whole month at one time and still no diagnosis. Rental car after rental car. They installed a data recorder in my car and the first time they found no data, then they installed it again for another week and they claim that it was the fuel pump relay. So they installed a new fuel pump relay in my car. A few weeks later my car shut down again on the way coming home and in the freeway with my mother and 2 year neice. We we're almost killed. The car just shuts off while driving and says "goodbye" with no warning while driving this is how i know that this has something to do with the engine. Please help if you can. I do not feel safe in this car and we are in danger. Sometimes the lights in the car cut on and off too.
I was driving the car on a two lane street at a normal rate of speed when the motor cut off. I coasted to the side of the road and tried to restart the engine. When i glanced up i noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. I opened the hood and the engine was engulfed in flames. The fire department extinguished the flames and the car is a total loss.
I was headed from ohio to michigan and all of a sudden it won't let me accelerate anymore and i get this burning smell and then all the dash lights start flashing and then the car just completely stops i pop the hood open on the side of the road and it's leaking oil which is not my fault cause i just got the oil changed and then the car just refuses to start now i can get the lights on and stuff but as for the engine turning over it's just not gonna happen and i'm surprised kia hasn't had a recall on anything at all for these engines cause there are so many complaints about them
Iā€™ve completed the recall on saturday it took them less then a few minutes even though the invoice said 0.00hrs. I showed that i had brake fluid leaking and the car smokes but was told to come back if things got worse. Saturday night i was driving to the house with my fiancć©e and the car started slowly if down, the check engine light came on. Then the car shut off in the middle of the highway after a while it just cut back on and smoke all the way to the house. If there was someone behind me i would have cause a accident but it not within my control. My car has randomly shut off while driving and a while later coming idling again, today making the 5th time with in 3days
I was driving about 40 mph and the engine and electrical systems just shut off. This is after an oil change, and with no warning signs. Luckily i wasn't on the freeway and was able to safely pull over. Still have no luck getting it restarted after being towed to my residence
2015 kia optima turbo.. I was entering the highway and was attempting to accelerate to merge with on coming traffic on the highway.in doing so, i realized my vehicle was not accelerating and when i looked down, all of the indicator lights were on on the dashboard.i managed to pull over to the shoulder just making it out of the lane of approaching traffic.once on the shoulder, i placed my car in park turned everything off and tried to restart it.i then saw and smelled smoke coming from under the hood of my car.frigthtened that it might catch fire, i turned the engine off, waited a few minutes and tried to start it again.again there was smoke coming from under the hood.i then called for a wrecker. Had the vehicle towed to kia dealership that same day. Did not find out until the following tuesday that the engine was locked up and they were waiting to see if kia was going to approve replacing the engine.was told i should hear something by tomorrow.still waiting to hear back.details to follow.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and the contact activated the hazard lights. The contact called roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to lou fusz kia (1025 n lindbergh blvd, st louis, mo, 63132). The dealer diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the battery had to be changed on two occasions by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While stationary, the vehicle caught fire. The contact smelled smoke coming from the cabin of the vehicle. The fire started under the steering column of the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire. There were no injuries and a fire report was filed immediately. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 22,000. Updated 01/27/17*lj
Every time i turn my headlights on my break lights stay on and the traction light comes on.people think i am riding my brakes.
Kia optima 2015 with 20k miles caught fire. Engine stopped while at red light, in drive.strong smell of burning plastic. Called 911. Vehicle behind me called reporting seeing flames coming from underneath vehicle. Kia replaced entire engine with no explanation as to why this happened.
Car engine stopped while driving on highway. Road ranger attempted to jump car off but sparks came and multiple cables were burnt out.. Car would not start. Took it to multiple automotive shop and was advise to contact kia for recall
Engine lights keep coming on and off. But doesn't give a code when i take it to get serviced. Took it up to kia to tell them that on my way home from the dealership, that my wall caught on fire in the trunk from the socket that holds the bulbs.back lights go out constantly after the bulbs are changed or the socket has been changed.
Engine ( and electrical systems ) shut down (3 times) completely and unexpectedly , while car was in motion at highway speeds( twice) and once while at tolls. Also noticed that when you turn key occasionally , its like battery is dead. I believe that first and second times i was flashing hi beams at highway speeds. After these events happen , the mileage guage resets, and clock is wrong. Also notice that the radio flickers,, and or turns off on its own. Also, not able to reset trip mileage, and noticed that shifter button intermittently will not depress.
About a month ago my traction control light came on and i would lose power steering. For a brief period of time maybe a day or two the light went out and i regained steering. Since then it has come back on again and i have had no power steering since this period i know there is an active recall on certain aspects of this and believe this is part of it, however i am told that my problem is not part of the recall and that i need to pay to have the safety issue fixed on my own.
8/27/2020 car had been at the kia dealership 2 weeks before for the same issue...car shut down on the freeway after 'check hybrid charging system' lights flashing 'shut down engine' lights flashing. Kia had determined car just needed a 'hybrid battery update' fast forward...i was driving to visit my mother in idaho, driving about 75 mph on the freeway, when the same thing happened: 'check hybrid charging system, shut off engine.' all the lights started flashing, and 'possible battery management system issue' diagnostic flashed on the radio screen. The car started losing power before locking up completely, wheel locking, shutting off and spinning out on the highway. Luckily another other cars were close by or else this would have easily turned into a fatal crash. 3 hours on the side of the road and a $450 tow into the nearest kia dealership which was 2 hours away.. And i find out it's a blown hevfuse and the hybrid system/battery has failed completely. Now i'm stuck with a dead car. Failed at around 79,500 miles. This is not the first kia optima hybrid to do this!!! recall these cars before they kill somebody!! i should not have to worry about a 5 year old car shutting down and locking up on the freeway while driving. Especially with kids in the car. I will never buy another kia again. It has the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty which kia is saying covers no part of any repairs. Odd since this is a known issue with these hybrids!! recall these death traps!!!
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 21v331000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to coast the vehicle off to the shoulder of the roadway. The contact mentioned that the battery was drained from the engine not turning off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but not diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle was undrivable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
About a month and a half ago my traction control light came on and i lost power steering. For a brief period of time that day the light went off and i regained power steering. Later that same day the traction control light reappeared and has been on since causing me to lose power steering. I have spoken with the manufacturer and they claim that this problem does not fall under any recall therefore they are not responsible for anything.
Keep hearing a loud rattling noise from the left side of the engine. He is more so when the car is in park and early morning. Has gone to the shop twice for this issues and each time have been told they can not find the problem even provided a recording of the sound. Also the radio complete shuts off by itself has done this 3 times now. Once again have taking it to the dealer and nothing was done about because the problem would not duplicate it's self. The passenger window gets stuck and have to play with the knobs in order to get it to come back up. I got this car july 21. 2017. The car has been in the show twice. First time for a week. Second time 6 days. Still no solution. Was told by lemon law to take it back and have them service it again. Has to be seen by dearer service department four times for the same problem before they will help.
When i drive my car it smells just like it is burning or melting in the motor, it comes thru the vents and smells awful. It has only smoked a couple of times when i have turned it off. I have had it looked at but at first they couldn't find the problem. The second time i had it checked out they said that the changed the hecu on my car but it still smells like it is burning. It has been doing it for about 3 months.
While driving the vehicle dash lights for the steering wheel and traction control come on and the steering gets hard as if no power steering. I pull over turn car off, check power steering fluid and belt, no issues. Turn car back on no aforementioned dash lights turned off and steering is fine. This has happened a few times within the last two months.
Edwards kia in council bluffs currently have had my car for 2 weeks and tell me that it could be an additional 6 weeks before i get it retired to me
While driving, below speed limit, the back tire slid on some slush.
Electronic stability control activates (flashing light on dash) inappropriately; when not actually experiencing a traction issue. Most often occurs when accelerating from a stop at an intersection with any type of ā€dipā€¯ or unevenness between the roadways, such as lip from driveway to street. When it activates in these situations the engine power reduces significantly resulting in little to no torque and the vehicle is unable to properly accelerate. This becomes very dangerous when pulling onto roadways with through-traffic, as it is not possible to clear the intersection in the anticipated timeframe had the electronic stability control had not improperly engaged. My common reaction when this happens is to provide more acceleration, which the vehicle responds to once the roadway becomes even and results in an instant burst of engine power. This causes the tires to spin, reduced ability to control steering and a total loss if in a turn.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated while his wife was parking the vehicle, the ignition was turned to the off position and made an abnormal sound. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 55 mph, the vehicle hesitated without warning. The driver continued to drive to the destination. Several days later, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact retrieved several unknown dtc codes using a dtc scanner tool. The contact reached out to an independent mechanic and was informed that the codes were incorrect. A dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,402.
"half" of the engine was replaced in july 2019. Now burns oil like crazy.on october 29th 2019 while driving at about 40 mph the entire electrical system shut off leaving me with no power steering. I was able to get off the road safely and call for a tow. I am second owner so warranty is out by about 2,600 miles. Dealer had i for a week at one point they said it was fixed when they were pulling it around front for me it stopped.
Both esc and auto hold lights occasionally go yellow at the same time. Usually goes back to normal after some period of time. This started maybe couple months ago. Brought to the dealer, but they couldn't detect any error codes.
While driving long distances the steering wheel tends to "stick" and the wheel has to be jerked a little to make steering fluid once again. I had the wheels checked to make sure i didn't need an alignment and it is being checked now for the steering issue.
The following happens anytime while driving the electronic control unit and software, sensors, actuators, warning lights, fault codes, and performance related concerns of the electronic stability control system. My passenger window won't go up once you put it down without a fight. I been to the dealer 4 times and it's not fixed.
I was driving down the street and my car started jerking, shaking and making noises. It was unsafe to drive home, so i pulled over and had the vehicle towed home.
Driving on freeway the car shut off will not start, indicating light aren't reporting any problems
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that the vehicle shook whenever the engine was running and a loud rattling noise was heard underneath the hood. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the fourth piston failed and needed to be replaced. The contact then took the vehicle to the dealer where it was determined that the sludge in the oil pan caused sludge to enter the engine. The vehicle did not receive an official diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and stated that the repair was not covered under the warranty due to the sludge in the engine. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that the driver's side front window was unable to close completely. The vehicle was taken to local dealer alm kia south (4310 jonesboro rd, union city, ga 30291, (678) 261-8409) to be diagnosed.
Car used to commute 50 miles each day to work and back.engine started consuming a lot of oil (a quart each week).kia dealer said engine is blown.
Vehicle cuts off while driving. This has happened twice in the past week. Once on the highway. Once on the city streets.
My car a 2015 kia optima lx 2.4 gdi which only has 97,000 miles on it and while driving home this past friday evening my engine started to knock really loud. Nowthe car is just setting at my house and when you start the car up, it still has a horrible knock. I can't drive the car.
Problems with acceleration. Put on limp home mode. I took it to dealership and it turn out the knock sensors aren't working and i need to replace engine.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 70 mph, the contact detected a loud, abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. As a result, the contact noticed smoke under the hood. A police report was filed. When the hood was lifted up, the fire extinguished itself and only smoke remained. The fire department was present and stated that the exhaust had burst and oil leaked out, which caused the fire. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not provided. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Engine seized while drivingand wouldnt start.i bought a new battery and tried to start it and it almost caught on fire.i had it towed to a kia dealer and they replaced the engineand the turbo system which had a recall on it in 2016that was for the knock sensorsystem on 2018/
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise progressing, the check engine warning indicator flashed, and the vehicle stalled. The dealer (kia of dayton, 8560 troy pike, huber heights, oh 45424, (888) 461-2115) indicated that the vehicle would need to be diagnosed. The dealer also stated that the vehicle was excluded from any recall campaigns. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and indicated that the vehicle was out of warranty and was not included in a recall. The manufacturer suggested that the vehicle be taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was not available.
While driving down the highway was traveling around 65 mph on dry street in the far left lane (fast lane), my car started making a sound like metal clicking and then car started smoking. My husband gets over to the side of road and the smoke goes from gray to black and when he lifted the hood up flames coming from rear and passenger side of engine! luckily someone pulled over and had fire extinguisher to put out fire. Fire and police both arrived on scene and reports made. Vehicle towed home; waiting to tow to dealer to find out cause of fire. Regular maintenance and upkeep on the vehicle and no lights or warnings just fire. Kia knows there is major problems with these engines and choose to only recall certain years when they basically know any vehicle between 2011 and 2018 can be affected. Don't know what the outcome will be but very upset that vehicle caught on fire and kia states since it's over 100,000 miles there's nothing they can do.
In the month of september, i took my kia to the dealership because of a stall out and turned out my vehicle needed a new engine. I picked up the vehicle a week later after the work was completed. Well a month later, on my way home from work, i was driving in a residential area and i'm heard a pop under the hood and saw smoke. A min later my car was up in flames. None of my warning lights came on to let me know that the car had a safety issue. My warning lights didn't come on until the engine was on fire. The car is totaled and undrivable.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. Within a short period of owning the vehicle, the engine hesitated and suddenly seized while driving 60 mph. The vehicle was unable to be driven safely. The vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling), although the vehicle exhibited the same failure as the recall campaign. The manufacturer had not issued any engine recalls for the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Engine light plus triangle light keeps coming on and off part was replaced light stayed off for 1 day came back on and losses power i have my grandchildren this happened in traffic keep taking to dealershop they claim rhey are qaiting on qors from manufacturers no word for 2 months now they have been dodging my calls by putting me on hold or dropping my calls
I was driving on the high at at about 65 miles a hour and my car shut off completely and wouldn't start. I called a tow truck and got it towed to a kia dealership. They got back to me about two weeks later and said my engine was blow but it was on recall but my carfax only have one oil change done since i bout the car. I provided them with up to date service records and i told them the last two oil changes i did were on my own. They just got back to me and said i didn't qualify for the recall if it's a recall i think it should be fixed i'm 19 years old and i still owe 12000 on the car and it's my first car i ever bought on my own and my only way of transportation. Thank you
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and the vehicle was towed to mike murphy kia (6150 altama ave, brunswick, ga 31525) where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The dealer contacted the manufacturer for approval to have the engine replaced under nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine). The manufacturer notified the contact that the engine replacement failed and that another engine needed to be ordered to replace the defective engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Car won't start when you push to start with brakes
My engine shut off while driving down a state highway, going about 70. I was able to roll down to an exit and park on the side of the exit. I had to have it towed back home. I had both my battery and alternator tested and a diagnostic test ran and nothing came back wrong. Oil is regularly changed and upkept.
My car is using oil but its not leaking oil but everytime i get a oil change its olny a quart in my car maybe. I have to get my oil changed every month to make sure i have oil in my car cause it stopped on me and i had to get it towed home they put oil in it a lil later and it started working again. But no warning lights or oil indicators come on i need to know why and why is this oil burning off my engine am i in any danger if my car catching fire?? please i need to know cause this has become expensive to get my oil changed every month it just burbs the oil up i dont know why?? please if u could help me understand this would be helpful and what should i do about it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
The engine started to knocking while i was driving on a city street and can't pick up speed over 60 mph and know the engine light is on
Vehicle was in motion on a busy highway when this happened. I would hit the gas and the car would try to stall, it did stall on several occasions. The car would jerk and the engine would start knocking.
My kia is using and losing oil rapidly. As in in-between oil changes. There are no leaks and it is not burning oil. My engine has seized up twice, while driving on the interstate, because its rapidly using that much oil. My mechanic says he's worked on several kia's with this similar problem.where is my oil going? after calling 5 kia dealerships today, none of them can get me in for at least 45 days because they are so backed up with fixing all the recalls.
Engine seized up at 35k miles. Kia did not honor the warranty and said it was due to my personal maintenance of the vehicle. Basically told me that if i had taken my car to kia everytime for an oil change it would have been covered. Service manager told me just to wait until another recall comes out and i would get my 6000 dollars back
The engine began making a knocking noise, then stalled.upon inspection at auto shop it was discovered that the engine seized and was a complete fail.the vehicle was traveling on a highway at around 65 miles per hour.the car has had all preventative maintenance performed and i can provide documentation as to that
I started having issues with my vehicle in october 2019, i tried to reach out to kia dealerships, with no help. I kept being told there were no recalls on my car and that i did not need to be concerned. My car finally stopped working, it just would not drive. It was jumping from 0-7000 rpms and then flying forward before it stopped working altogether. Around the moment it stopped driving it started smoking and i just pulled over and turned it off and then it wouldn't even go into neutral for a tow truck. I placed a brand new transmission into my car even while making a car payment on it on november 23rd 2019, it is now december 11, 2019 and i have only driven it 302 miles and i am having the same issues on it. When i call kia i am told that there isn't anything they can do to fix the vehicle and that i need to have it diagnosed again for a charge of 170.00. I am now way upside down on the vehicle and am continuing to have issue after issue with it. I do not recommend this car. I have two small children and i have to have a vehicle but i will not keep paying to have things fixed that should not be an issue on a less than five year old car!!!!!
Engine seized up metal shavings found in oil pan solenoid also had traces of metal shavings.
Driving to work and accelerated to 60 and then suddenly all the dashboard lights started blinking and then it would not accelerate, even if i pressed on the gas. Pulled over and turned off the car. I tried turning it back on after a minute and was unable too. Had to get the car towed to the dealership which reported that the engine blew do the bearings, which seems to be a recall issue
On january 15, 2019 my 2015 kia optima caught on fire while my 16 year old daughter was driving down the highway. She smelled a strong fuel smell first then tired to stop the car. The brakes wouldn't work so she had to use the emergency brakes. Pulled to the side of the road popped the hood and the engine was on fire.
We purchased this car brand new and we have had to replace the engine and starter twice due to oil leaking through exhaust. No oil leaks on ground were visible. No lights warning low oil. Both time car broke down on road. About two years apart.we replaced parts with used motors as that's what we could afford.
Driving on the freeway at 60-65. Car started slowing down. Bumper to bumper traffic. Car stops. Kids in car. Most terrifying moment in life.get towed finally theytook to kia dealer cleveland ohio.. Engine locked. $4k to repair. Kia would not warranty any of it. 102k miles on engine. Frequent oil changes. 2015 was not covered on the recall. This is un acceptable they know its a problem.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to restart, but failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to a kia dealer. The vehicle was later towed to kia auto team delaware (1603 pennsylvania ave, wilmington, de 19806, (877) 364-9441) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
2015 kia optima, only 47k miles....engine failure...the dealership says its sludge... And i have to provide all my maintenance records.it started with white smoke coming out of the tailpipe and loud rattling noise when i accelerated, then this past saturday, it started to shake violently and the check engine light went on .i had to get it towed. This is kia's fault!!! not mine.i've done the same routine maintenance on my toyota and honda which had over 100k miles with no problems!i am being told by kia that it won't be covered under the warranty.
I have a 2015 kia optima purchased in october2017 with 34k miles approx. I am constantly putting oil in my car and it seems to evaporate in 2-3 days. There is no leak and we have no idea why the car is consuming so much oil. Lately the car has been knocking and when accelerating to merge onto highway, the vehicle starts to sputter and begins to stall.i do not feel safe in this vehicle with my children and no longer use this vehicle on a daily basis. After doing some research, i find that this year vehicle has the most overall consumer complaints and there still has yet to be a recall on the engine?i do not understand why kia skipped this year??let alone blame consumers that it's their fault for not following the maintenance schedule, yet when told the schedule has been followed, will find some other lame excuse so the manufacturer is not at fault. What is it going to take to have this engine recalled? we as consumers, myself, a single hard working parent, do not have the means to buy another vehicle just because kia says it's not their fault. This problem started beginning of april 2019, my vehicle has 52k.
I was traveling at 65 mph on a straight and level highway in my kia optima (which has less than 60,000 miles), the check engine light came on and i lost all power. I could have lost my life. Car was towed to local repair shop who determined that vehicle needed to be brought to a dealer. Barry henderson, the repair shop manager, said there is a possible wiring issue and if the wiring is okay, the engine needs to be replaced. He told me they couldn't repair so the car was towed to hyman brothers kia in midlothian, va. All required maintenance has been done on this car and hard copies of all of the service records have been place on the front passenger seat as proof.
The contact owned a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately over 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled, there were no warning lights. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer langdale kia (1508 n ashley st, valdosta, ga 31602; (229) 242-0715) who diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle's engine was replaced under warranty and the fuel pump was replaced under the recall nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine). The contact stated approximately 10 days later the vehicle suddenly caught started to smoke from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The contact stated that approximately 5-8 minutes later the smoke drastically increased, then, the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire and a fire department report was made. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,284. *ln
Relocating to las vegas and my engine went out. The car just stop moving.i bought this car 13 months ago at paul blanco stockton and it went out after only having 84,000 miles
Cut shut off while in motion on a highway, began smoking and now will not start.in chamblee ga
Driving down the freeway- car died- all dashboard lights came on- started back up-- had a knocking noise- drove it out of traffic and parked it.towed to kia dealership- engine is gone.maintenance has been done regularly- the check oil light never came on - still isnt on- no oil in the engine- check engine light came on only after the car died.. This is very dangerous- the cars die in the middle of traffic
While driving back from lake havasu to seal beach(over 308 miles away); 100 miles in towards destination, my car suddenly was stalled; loosing complete power of even pressing the signal light or emergency light. I still had 206 miles left to destination. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, no air, no power to lower the windows and heat quickly rising to 100 degrees and trying to get back phone reception to call in for towing service. I was then able to get through to aaa. I was informed that i was over 60 miles from needles and 78 miles away from barstow and aaa could not find a tow truck that could be there less than 2 hours from the time i called, (total wait was 2 1/2 hrs) after going through 2 tow trucks and getting to kia motors in cerritos; i was told the following day that the motor needed to be replaced. I asked whether they had a recall on this issue and service tech did not want to admit they had one. I stated to him that i was informed by a mechanic and confirming through your web site that they did have a recall since january of this year. Service rep then confessed they did. Kia is waiting 2-4 weeks for motor to arrive. I currently have been provided a rental, which kia now has taken responsibility in paying for it. I will inform everyone on how this claim goes, once the repairs are completed
I had just left the construction zone on i-30 eastbound in benton, ar. I was in the left lane when the car began acting jerky as if it was trying to accelerate. I started to cross over to the right lane when i noticed smoking coming out the back. I got on the right shoulder, parked in front of exit 118, and turned off the vehicle. I was in my vehicle calling a ride when i noticed a gentleman running towards me yelling, "your car is on fire!" i got out of my vehicle, went around to the passenger door to retrieve my purse and laptop bag from the front passenger seat, and moved as far as possible to the rear of the vehicle. By the time, i had retrieved my items out of the front seat, there was smoking coming from the hood of the vehicle. By the time, i had begun walking to the rear of the vehicle, you could see flames coming from the hood. I was calling 911 as i walked to the rear of the vehicle.the cause of the vehicle fire is unknown.however, the vehicle was serviced the day before by k & a tires in malvern, ar. The camshaft was replaced, an oil change was completed, and the windshield wipers were replaced. Unfortunately, the invoice was in the glove department of the vehicle. The owner was given information that the vehicle was/is under an nhtsa recall#20v519.
Engine needs replaced. Started to knock, on my way home, just driving on the highway. By the time i got to the shop it was barely driveable. Told it needs a new engine. There is a recall on 2011 to2014 optima's. Mechanic says this engine should be recalled as well.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the engine stalled while the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
My car is knockingand wont go over like 35mph without shaking and knocking sounds.
Engine failure with my new 2015 kia optima at 42,000 miles.kia denied warranty coverage due to not being able to prove all oil changes. Kia also denied knowing there was an engine defect on this 2.4l gdi engine. Today i see an engine recall finally from kia, however they stopped premature at the 2014 model.i had to pay for a new engine to be installed out of my own pocket on a brand new vehicle.
The optima has stalled multiple times while driving on both the highway and city streets. When the car stalls everything shuts off completely and it's is extremely difficult to steer. My 2 year old daughter has been in the car during rush hour traffic a couple times while this has happened. I have called both kia corporate and the kia dealership where the was purchased and they can't figure out why the car is stalling. After 3-5 weeks of going back and forth with the kia corporate and the dealership they have finally told me there is nothing they can do.
I noticed that while driving my car it would first make a noise and then right after it would stall and sputter/ jerking like it wants to cut off. I took my car to a kia dealership first in alexandria,va where they only did my oil change and nothing else because they said that it would take a while for them to look at my car and they didn't have a loaner for me, so i then took my car to the falls church, va location and i explained to them what was happening with my car and for about six months i was bringing my car back and forth there for oil changes because they wanted to see if it would still have the same issues and no matter how many oil changes they done my car would still do the same thing. My car was close to the maximum miles for where it would still be covered under my warranty to get fixed and i told them that i wanted to get the issue fixed before my warrant runs out. So finally they keep my car sitting in the shop for 1 month without anyone looking at it and come to find out the guy that was going to be working on my car no longer works there, i would call them to check on the status of my car and most times i could never reach anyone and they didn't call me to keep me up to date on the progress, so after about 1 1/2 month they call me and tell me that they can not fix my car due to lack of maintenance and up keep by me and even though it's covered under warranty, my car only had 57,000 miles on it and it will cost me $5000 + to get my car fixed. I'm still driving my car and still having the same issues, i'm very upset because it's like kia doesn't even care and seems like the people at the dealership wanted me to keep coming back and forth so that i can get close to the miles to where it wouldn't be under warranty so they wouldn't have to fix it. My car isn't fixed and i don't have the money to get it fixed, i'm hoping for a miracle.
I was traveling east on a 4 lane road at 45 mph. As i was passing thru a green light, a westbound vehicle made an illegal left turn in front of me, causing me to "t-bone" his vehicle. All of his airbags deployed.....none of mine did.the car was repaired, surprisingly; yet i do not feel safe driving it. I sustained cervical and lumbar spine injuries, as well as a severe whiplash and concussion. I am unable to work, due to surgery that was necessary. I just need to know if this car is safe?? i was also in a side collision that was not my fault;two years ago, where someone hit me, and no airbags deployed. At that particular accident,i was stationary; at a stop light.
My daughter's car, kia optima 2015, had been brought in for engine repair for it died in the middle of the freeway a couple of years ago, since then, she tells me that she has been adding 3 quarts of oil every week and sometimes she finds the engine empty of oil from the dipstick. When she came home, i monitored the driveway where she parks to look for oil leakage but i didn't find any leakage of oil in my driveway.my daughter is not safe in this car, unfortunately she uses this care to go to school and we don't have the capability to purchase another car.please look into this problem that kia optima is undermining and overlooking. I am not the only one reporting this issue from what i have read.for the consumers, you are the only ones we can turn to in times like this.i hope that you would consider looking into this problem by kia corporation.
Burning oil, engine went into limp mode in traffic, car won't run
Oil light warning displayed. Took it to nearest kia dealership next day. Was told there was metal shavings in the oil. Engine needed replacing. Same diagnosis as the nhtsa campaign id: 17v224000 recall!
Driving the vehicle no warning signs or lights. Engine shuts off. Take to a mechanic the motor needs replaced. Replace the motor. Drive the car for 1 month motor needs replaced again. Both times like was empty when routine oil changes were done at 3,000 miles. A car does not burn oil over a 30 day period causing engine failure. A faulty product does. Kia should recall the engines in this year as well. The problem obviously is extended past 2014.
I own a 2015 kia optima lx. This past weekend, i was driving home when my car just shut down. I then had to coast to the side of the road due to the car had no power. I turned the key off, and tried to restart the car again. But it just click once and that was it. It never would start again, i had the car towed home and put in my driveway until the next day. I called jeffery kia the next day and had the car towed to them. After two days, the service manager called and told me that the engine had seize up and needs to be replaced. The car is only two years old with just under 60,000 miles and has a full warranty. But the dealer stated that since i did not have them do my oil changes that they required me to bring them receipts from other places to prove the oil was being changed. I told the dealer that i do my own oil changes, due to i don't trust oil change establishments. The dealer then requested that i bring them receipts from where i bought the oil and filter to prove that the oil was being changed. I told the dealer who keeps receipts like that!!! why would i keep receipts for oil that i bought at a auto parts store. I didn't think i would have to keep such receipts. But after doing my research concerning this issue with this make and model of kia, i found out that this is a known problem. Back in 2014, kia and hyundai both recalled 1.2 million vehicles for this same issue. And it appears, that it is still no corrected. They should be the ones to cover the cost of the repair for this issue, since they knew about it from the start and failed to do anything about until it affected tons of innocent buyers.
Car engine stopped while driving on highway. Road ranger attempted to jump car off but sparks came and multiple cables were burnt out.. Car would not start. Took it to multiple automotive shop and was advise to contact kia for recall
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the vehicle made an abnormal noise without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (dennis eakin kia 5200 e central texas expy, killeen, tx 76543) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a oil change. The vehicle was not repaired but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
I was driving 70 miles per hour on i96 when the check engine light, the batterylight and the oil light came on.i was able to get to an exit but the car cut off right at the exit ramp as i stopped traffic for a mile. The car would not start again and had to be towed.i had it looked at two different places and they said it was the engine.the car is a 2015 with slightly over 100,000 miles.regular oil changes at the dealership and there was absolutely no warning that something was wrong with my car.i had never had any problems before.the last car shop said that something came loose in the engine.i could have been killed if i did not make it to the ramp.i called the dealership and they said they have been having a lot of problems with kia and hyundai motors.
Your sitting at a red light or driving down the road, and the car just stalls/turns off without any warning what so ever.this actually just started today.after looking it up, it seems to be happening quite a bit & nothing is being done by kia. This is ridiculous, not to mention scary!it's an accident waiting to happen!
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While the vehicle was undergoing an oil change, the vehicle stalled and the oil indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Bought a brand-new 2015 kia optima in february 2016 - 2.5 years and 34,000 miles in, it died on me while going 70mph on i85n in atlanta in morning rush hour.no prior problems with the car and no warning signs whatsoever - i went to change lanes and accelerate around a slow-moving vehicle and all of a sudden my gas pedal no longer worked and all of the lights on my dash lit up - the engine was dead and i was coasting.could not get off to the right side of the road due to traffic, so had to put it as far to the left as i could, which ended up halfway in the hov lane - extremely dangerous.would not restart, had to get it towed to the dealership.luckily all of my services and oil changes had been done at the dealership i had bought the car from (rick case kia in gwinnett, ga).so they had no way to try to wiggle around the warranty.i am seeing this exact issue being described at the exact mileage range for dozens and dozens of 2015 kia optimas on carcomplaints.com.it appears that kia and the dealerships are getting around paying for what obviously is an engine defect by asking that the drivers prove they had the oil changed by producing receipts for every service.when/if they can't, kia is negating the warranty and asking the driver's to pay $7k-8k for a new engine.it's despicable.my dealership couldn't get around the warranty since i had done every recommended service and oil change at the dealership where i bought the car. This am they informed me that the engine has been approved and will be replaced (not before trying to milk money out of me by trying to blame the issue on a faulty battery first, which wasn't covered by the warranty).kia issued a recall for this same issue on their 2011-2014 and 2016 optimas, and excluded the 2015 models.it's painfully obvious that the 2015 optimas are also defective, and a recall should be issued.
Check engine light on.car drive horrible.engine is shaking everytime i have my foot on the break while car is running
The knock sensor detection system
I was driving my car on the expressway and suddenly it's stopped i tried to turning it back on but it wouldn't start. I had it towed to a nearby auto shop and the mechanic told me it was an electrical issue and they couldn't touch it. He also said it smell like something blow up it smelled like smoke. The next day i had it towed to the kia dealership. Their mechanic and customer rep are telling me because i didn't do the recall on time the car would not be covered and i had to pay $7008.00 out of pocket even though i never got a notice for a recall. In their system they had a different address, and were able to updated my address and still told me i was liable because there are ways of checking for recalls.
Takara recall,i was driving my 2015 kia optima gdi, when suddenly my engine shut off,and then had a hard time starting, then i called towing agency, they jumped it,then my engine started to have a loud knock like sound..then died out again..my oil is always changed regularly, and when this happen it was showing my oil level is good..luckily no one got injured when my vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway
While driving home my car completely shut off. No warning lights no nothing. I had a tow company try to jump start the car. Nothing. Had the car towed to a local shop. Checked starter, fine. Mechanic told me my engine was making a loud clanking noise, never heard before. He strongly suggested i do not drive the car. Had all oil changes done at dealership. Warranty expired. No help from dealership or kia. I do not have $5200 to replace an engine. No car for 3 months
When driving down the highway after tappin my breaks to slow down, when we went to accelerate to the speed again my car started flashing the check engine light and wouldn't go over 2000 rpms. Now in a limp mode. Got the vehicle home and sure enough there is metal in my engine.
I have a 2015 kia optima. The engine has a delayed acceleration when taking off. Makes a strange noise when turning. Smells like it is burning oil after driving a short period of time and there is an excessive need to replenish the engine oil. Oil is extremely dark. Sometimes there is white smoke coming from the exhaust.hard to accelerate on the freeway at times.
Vehicle caught fire unerneath the hood while driving on highway interstate 70. Thefire department had to put out the fire. The windshield shattered due to the fire. You can see the burned square shape on the hood which shows the destruction underneath the hood.
I was driving on a highway at approximately 55 mph and the car just stopped.all of the dashboard lights came on.i was able to coast to the side of the road before i got to a busy intersection. Towed and mechanic states i need a new engine.i have had this car less than 3 years and bought it brand new. Financed for 5 years so i'm really in a bind.
About a week ago i was stopped at a stop sign and when i went to accelerate the car stalled for around 5-6 seconds then drove fine. Ever since then it will randomly feel like it hesitates while in motion driving between 45-65 mph.
I was driving home from work and my car stalled on me out of no where. I was able to get started. All my lights on my dash board came on and my car was making a bad rattling noise. I was able to drive it home, still stalling from time to time. I got it towed to a mechanic shop. He said it sounds like a bad engine and it sounds like it could blow. I've had my car for 2 years and have never had a problem with it. It never made a noises before or anything to indicate my engine was going out. I got my piles changed on 8/11/2020 around 2:30pm at murphysboro, il walmart. This incident happened on 8/13/2020.
Takata recall: the engine on my kia optima is making a loud knocking and ticking noise. The vehicle also loses slight power when pressing on the gas pedal.i know there has been numerous complaints from kia owners about the engine making the same noise and they had to have their engines replaced. The vehicle makes the noise either moving or standing still.
This has been a great car until suddenly i saw smoke. Checked my oil & it was low. I added oil. I began to hear rattling in the engine and huge white puffs of smoke emit from my engine, so bad that cars behind me on the freeway (all 4 lanes) hit their brakes as they cannot see. The 101 freeway during rush hour - this is very bad and could get someone killed, including me if my engine seizes at 75 mph.i check my oil every other day or so and seems to be low once a week. I've been waiting to drop my car at my mechanic. When i got there he said he could not touch my car due to the same exact reason for over 1.2 million recalled engines.i went to brake masters down the road asking if they know anything about this and they said "absolutely!"they told me do not do an oil change as many people's engine seizes within a day or several days after an oil change.dealers consistently tell people their engine has "sludge" in it.really? i have read so many reviews of the same diagnosis. Telling people it is $6,000-$8,000 for a new engine at their cost. Both my mechanic and brake masters told me that they feel the only reason my engine has not seized on me is because i took notice that my engine sounded slightly different.not one time has a light gone off on my car.there is no reason why a dash warning light does not go off while loosing power and burning oil so bad that people cannot see.so, we have two issues..... #1 obvious failure of dash warning/engine warning lights and #2 the burning oil, metal shards ruining my engine.i am a single mom and do not get child support. I don't have a savings account and could not afford to replace an engine.i am very good with my vehicles and what i am reading is unacceptable.so many people are paying for new engines and i will not be one of them.please help me as this engine issue is not a lack of care
Metal found in engine. Vehicle completely shut off and would not restart. Has to be replaced.
I was driving about 40 mph and the engine and electrical systems just shut off. This is after an oil change, and with no warning signs. Luckily i wasn't on the freeway and was able to safely pull over. Still have no luck getting it restarted after being towed to my residence
The speed limit on the freeway at 70 and the car cut but all lights wher still on it to me to sit for 5 minutes and then it started but a few days later my check eingine light came on and they say it a p0014 code but the car is knocking.
My 2015 kia optima sxl turbo is making a knocking sound when i hit the gas. It also stalled on me while at a stop light.solenoid also had traces of metal shavings.
While driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning indicatorstarted to flash. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact called and took the vehicle to kia of west nyack (250 n route 303, white plains, ny 10994) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been at the dealer ever since april 22, 2019. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
Takata recallmy son and i was riding down the highway and we heard a loud boom!and the car started smoking we immediately pulled over and jumped out of the car we checked under the hood only to see fire! weimmediately started running down the highway scared for our life's. Since that day i have not been able to drive or ride inside of any vehicle.
While i was driving the lights on my dashboard came on and the car began to lose power/speed and then the car stopped and i was unable to restart the engine and some minor smoke and weird smell
The car sped is faster than what the speedometer day. The car jerks when you are sitting idle. The oil light keep coming on when the oil stick show that's its oil in there. Car don't pick up speed fast enough check engine light came on.
After several trips to my dealership about engine problems, from engine smoke, loss of power, engine knocking, chugging when i'm driving as if it were going to stall. They turned me down so i've had no other option than to deal with it . Now my car is burning oil, about a quart a week. It constantly smells of burning oil and the chugging when driving the car has gotten way worse to where it feels like my car is about to completely stall and shut off. I could drive it 5 minutes or for an hour and it acts the same. I do not feel safe even driving this car anymore. Please do something about this.
Driving home from the store last night and my car started sputtering and stalling, a cloud of white smoke came from my exhaust pipes. I parked it called my dad and he told me to check the oil. There was barely any oil on the dipstick even though i had just got my oil changed 10 days earlier. I had the company that changed my oil check it out. They told me it was something internally causing the oil to burn off therefore it was a manufacturers issue and it should be covered under warranty. I had it towed to the closest kia dealership and waiting to hear what their diagnosis is. My car only has 55,000 miles on it, i have only had it a little over a year and i bought it brand new.
I was driving on the highway when my car stopped without any warning. I got it towed to a repair shop. It started back up and running but was making a weird noise coming from the engine. I drove the car home and took it to a repair shop to get a diagnostic check and the engine oil was very thick. I just had an oil change 2 month ago. I have only 104.000 miles on the car and i took very good care of the car.
I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden the check engine and all lights came on.i could not accelerate or stop the vehicle the brakes did not work i coasted off to the side of the freeway and hit the guard rail because i had no breaks. Then i had a tow truck come and pull me off the freeway to see if i could start my vehicle however it did not start all the lights were on the dash on and the car was smoking and smell like fire i had the car towed to the mechanic to find out what is wrong. The mechanic said the engine is fried because the oil pump was not being pumped into the motor therefore it locked up he said i believe there is a recall on this vehicle for the same reason i checked the recall and there is nothing in the system that a 2015 kia optima is up for recall.i believe kia needs to refund this vehicle that has only 88,000 miles in the engine needs to be replaced kia needs to call me
2015 kia optima was going through 2 quarts of oil at least 3 times a week blowing out white smoke. Had engine replaced under 100k warranty at 98,844k. At 110,474 miles engine broke down while driving on highway. Managed to get car to shoulder and would only drive 5 miles an hour. Kia service department stated needs new engine and catalytic converter. States not in warranty. Kia corporate advised we have 12 month/12k warranty on new engine meaning there is approx 1100 miles remaining under warranty. Kia dealership now says that the original warranty for the car of 100k is what was covered for the new engine as well, meaning the warranty for the new engine lasted approx 1100. They are more concerned about the rental car they provided and reimbursement for that then the engine issue.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The failure recurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle experienced engine failure due to maintenance related issues and the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000. The vin was not provided.
Engine failure and replacement around 86,000 miles. Now has 95,000 miles. Has shaking, burning smells, and suspected power surging. Dealer states can not replicate smell or surging. Although a resistor was burnt up. They say the shake in the car is normal due to engine design. Engine did not start shaking until 40,000 miles. Kia corporate refuses to send a tech out.
I was driving today on 95 north philadelphia! and then the engine shuts off and the battery lights and oil light did come on. And after that happened again on 73 new jersey
My vehicle starting driving sluggish and making an increasingly knocking noise from under the hood. I took the car for a routine oil change and 2 weeks later checked in a normal ride to work i realized my vehicle was smoking really bad from the exhaust and a horrible smell of burnt oil filled the interior. I took the car home and parked it. Less then a week later i get a recall letter for the engine. I had the car towed in to kia they ran a test my engine has blown they put me in a rental for 16 days this began 6/20/17. I came to get my car on 7/8/17 and didn't even get down the street before getting pulled over and notified that my car is roaring smokethe exhaust again. I immediately brought it back. They drove it with me and also agreed it was still smoking and had nothing to do with old oil burning off and now my a.c. Is acting weird. They placed me back in a rental and told me they would open a ticket. To be very honest i'm trying to keep present but i'm very very scared and concerned about getting back in the car. I feel trapped and i'm still making payments on something i can't even drive and feel unsafe in.
Engine locked up durring acceleration to 40 mph why merging into traffic found out engine has a bent rod.oil and coolent where sufficint but kia will not fix or replace.could of caused my wife to crash or be hit by traffic
Engine stalls when slowing down to turn or continue. This is a continuous problemsense 2015
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with the engine failing. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v519000 (service brakes, hydraulic) in january of 2019. The contact was relating the failure to the recall. The contact was unable to service the recall because the dealer was behind on work. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
So we have a 2015 kia optima. On june 10 2021 our car was completely fine just did our normal oil change, tune up, etc. It was running and starting just fine. The next day june 11th, 2021 my husband was on the highway and getting off at his exit and the car suddenly went into ā€limp modeā€¯ itā€™s a safety mechanism on the car to stop it from completely blowing the engine and destroying other things. He was able to get the car home but was only able to go 25 miles a hour. The car is now currently sitting in our drive way throwing a whole bunch of different codes. First it was a rod in the engine and then now a misfire when the car hasnā€™t moved in over a month. From what i hearing from the dealership and other people this is common with the gdi engines. We are now out of a car and donā€™t even know whatā€™s completely wrong with it. Weā€™ve barely had a year of that.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 40 mph, the engine stalled. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the road shoulder, but it would not restart. The vehicle was towed to a friend's home. The contact called dutch miller kia of charleston (335 maccorkle ave sw, south charleston, wv 25303, (855) 739-5369) and was informed to provide them with the vin since this would be the second engine that had to be replaced in less than one year. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owned a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, without warning an odor appeared the cabin of the vehicle. The contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road, get out the vehicle, look under the hood, and within seconds underneath the hood went up in flames. No injuries were sustained. A police report was filed. The fire department was contacted and extinguished the flames. The vehicle was deemed a total loss from the fire department. No dealer was contacted. The vehicle insurance company towed the vehicle to a collision lot. No manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000(fuel system, gasoline, engine) as a possible solution to the failure, however, the vin was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
2015 kia optima. Consumer writes in regards to recall notices received on vehicle. *ldthe consumer requested to be involved in a class action suit for oil consumption. The request was denied. The vehicle had not been repaired.
Took my car into the dealership ( atlanta west kia, douglasville, ga) for an oil change, tire rotation, etc. I was notified when i checked in that there was a computer recall for an upgrade of the computer/electronic system. They informed me that they would do that while performing the other service work. 3 weeks after the oil change i was driving on the interstate the car sudddenly lost power after a big puff of white smoke and loud noise. I worked my way over to the nest exit and proceeded to turn around to go back home. No warning/engine/oillights came on during this time. I called the dealership and never returned my call, with no results. We checked the oil the car was 3 quarts low. Continue to notify the dealer to no avail. The car needed 3 quarts of oil everytime i checked it weekly. Let me reinterate that the car was running fine before i took it in for service in nov 2018. I called kia corp. They infomed me that my car was not under recall and that there's nothing they can do becasue i had 68k on the car. They asked me to have it towed in for diagnostic test. Now they want me to provide all the service records. The service records was in the kia dealership system as i have used that dealer (prior owner) for most of my work. I am not sure what happened to the service records. At this point they refuse to replace the engine. Kia has recalled every year but 2015 - apparently they think they got it right in 2015 since the motor was built in a different location. The engine i s pracically gone and i have had the car less than 4 years. I purchased band new off the lot 9/2015. I feel like they should be made to add the 2015 kia optima to the engine recall list before someone get seriously hurt either by the car stopping in highway traffic or catching on fire. Door handle on the driver's side contiues to stick and the dorr will not open from outside or inside.
I was driving in rush hour traffic i'm my 2015 kia optima when it just cut off while i was driving almost causing me to hit another car. Unsure of what was happening i had it towed to akin and bobs auto repair. They inspected the car and it needs a new engine. I had not had any issues with car before. Now i see there is a recall that is causing issue like i experienced that day.
As i was traveling on the highway, i pulled up to a red light, when the light changed my vehicle would not accelerate and i there was an 18 wheeler coming up behind me with my 80-year-old grandmother in the car. Thank god i was able to get out of the way in time. I just bought this car with low miles and i have oil in it and out of nowhere there's it's loud ticking noise coming from the engine and somehow my oil is back low again. This so totally on kia so many complaints not enough resolution.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 65 mph, the contact heard a clanking sound as the vehicle accelerated. The vehicle stalled and thick, black smoke emerged from the engine. There were no warning indicators illuminated during the failure. Kia roadside assistance towed the vehicle to hudson kia (36 water st, jersey city, nj 07305) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 33,386. Consumer stated this was reported to the manufacturer on 5/11/18, service report states engine defect and evap canister recall which does not show up anywhere.updated 9/21/18
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While the vehicle was in reverse, a knocking noise was heard from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to kia atlanta south (770-968-3400, located at 7310 jonesboro rd, morrow, ga 30260), but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
The car has been making a sputtering/ticking noise since purchase. I have had it checked at kia twice and they say no issues found. The noise is definitely not normal, but nobody will do anything about it.
While driving on the road, the engine started making noise and all of a sudden itstopped. Tried restarting it but it would shut down again with a clunking sound like metal to metal grinding. Had to push the car off the road. Checked the oil and it was at the right level as i had recently changed the oil a few weeks ago. I tried restarting it a couple more times but it just shuts down and the engine really sounded bad with a screeching sound. I had it towed home and currently sitting in my garage for a month now since i don't have any funds to get it fix.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate and stalled while the check engine blinked. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home despite the engine stalling persistently. The contact drove the vehicle to an auto zone to have the vehicle diagnosed, but they suggested the vehicle be taken to a dealer. The contact took the vehicle to crain kia of sherwood (5830 warden rd, sherwood, ar 72120, 501-436-4852) where it was diagnosed that the knock sensor needed replacement. The failure was associated with nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine). The contact was driving a loaner vehicle for the past month because the vehicle was still being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 171,000. The vin was unknown.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact was driving at 75 mph, when she slowed down to 50 mph to switch lane then attempted to accelerate however, the vehicle would not exceed 60 mph. The vehicle was driven for about 2 more miles before it was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The alternator was replaced however, the vehicle failed to restart. The independent mechanic then contacted a kia dealer and was informed by the dealer that there was a recall for the vehicle with nhtsa campaign number: 20v519000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was then towed to parkway family kia (22555 us-59, kingwood, tx 77339) to be diagnosed. The mechanic determined that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer determined that the failure was due to the recall. The dealer then sent the diagnostic findings to the manufacturer for the recall repair approval however, the manufacturer informed the dealer that because the contact had not done the manufacturer communications product improvement upgrade: vpi1802 (engine) the recall would not be honored. The contact stated that she never received the notification from the manufacturer about the product improvement upgrade because it was sent to an old address that she no longer lived at. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.
Knock sensor detector is malfunctioned. The engine vibrates when accelerating. The engine needs to be replace now.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. On november 12, 2018, the engine became fully engulfed in flames while the car was parked on the street in front of our house and turned off. No one had driven the car for several hours. The fire destroyed the entire front end of the car, melted the tires and filled the interior of the car with smoke. Fortunately, the fire department arrived and put out the fire before it spread to the gas tank.
My vehicle is randomly displaying 'goodbye' on the dashboard and is shutting off while driving. This started from nowhere with no warning lights or warning signals. I've only had this vehicle for 6 months and it has less that 30,000 miles on it. There are no open recalls on the vehicle, however i'll read about similar issue with the same make and model. I maintain my vehicle according to how kia suggests. This is extremely dangerous as i am sometimes heading to work, going about 65 miles or more or the highway and the car just stops. It is now beginning to shut off immediately after cranking, and a noise is coming from under the hood, which sounds like metal in the engine. I have refrained from driving the vehicle completely, due to fear or loss of life. The sudden stopping of the vehicle has happened while i was driving on the city streets going about 30-40 mph, as well as on the highway going about 65 mph.
While driving on a busy interstate highway, suddenly a battery warning light flashed across my dashboard and my vehicle began losing power. I drifted to the right within speeding traffic trying to reach the shoulder of the road.i didn't make and my vehicle came to a complete stop and could not be restarted in the middle of an exit off ramp. Oncoming traffic was swerving and coming to abrupt stops to avoid slamming into the rear of my vehicle.i got out of the vehicle and stood on the side of the road, in fear of being killed inside the vehicle.a police officer put out flares and then state highway administration emergency tow, moved my vehicle to the shoulder of the road, out of the way of speeding traffic.the vehicle was then towed by kia roadside assistance to the nearest kia dealership. They have diagnosed my vehicle with "sludge" in the engine and burnt out starter, requiring a new engine and starter.i have provided all service records of oil changes conducted as required which were all provided by kia.car is brand new under warranty, two years old, with 18,561 miles and no history of warning lights. I was told it would be 2-3 business days for a decision.it's been 6 business days and i haven't received a loaner/replacement vehicle nor approval for the repair.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate, shuddered, lost power, and shut off without warning. Also, an abnormal burning odor was detected. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.
My car engine light came on. I took care to dealership. Dealership kept car for 2 1/2 weeks and ultimately will not pay for repairs. No recall repairs have ever been done on my car since i have had it and i was not notified of any recalls. Recall is for high pressure fuel line and the documentation states it needs to be replaced in my car.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact coasted to the shoulder. No warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. An independent mechanic determined that the engine seized and needed replacement. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 64,500.
Had oil changed and a month later noticed the car making a knocking noise and skipping while driving on city street and highway. Had the oil rechecked and the car was out of oil. First thought that the oil place forgot to put oil in. However, it was later determined by a mechanic that the valve was gone in the engine and i would need a new engine at 130,000 miles in a 2015 kia optima lx. The car stopped on the highway at 70 but i was able to move to the side.
The vehicle started idling roughly and the check engine light came on. Stopped atthe nearest automobile center, theyinspected the vehicle and indicated that there maybe a defect to the engine and that my engine may need to be replaced.
The check engine light is on and the vehicle lacks acceleration. A loud tapping is coming from the engine. Thia started on july 25, 2020 while driving on the highway.
My car has onky 64804 miles and my engine is lock
2015 kia optima. Drove out of my parking lot and my car just cut off after i turned the corner at 4:30 in the morning heading to work. Tried to start it again it started and cut right back off. Had it towed to the kia dealer in frederick. The dealer called me and said that my engine failed because it didn't have any oil in it and it had sludge and a crack in the engine. I was further told that i needed to bring all of my oil change receipts to prove i was getting my oil changed. My car is not even 3 years old. The warranty clearly states that you are covered 10years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. Kia is not willing to honor their wairranty which is dead wrong. Got a call today stating that it was going to cost $7200 to fix my engine. Last time i checked i was not related to rockefeller. People just don't go around deliberately cracking engines. This car needs to be recalled. How was it recalled from 2011-2014 skipped 2015 and recalled again in 2016. I've been doing my homework with this situation and there have been 98 complaints about the 2015 kia optima which 48 of them where about the engine and kia nor nhtsa had investigated any of them. That's because they do not want to fix there issues that they knew about prior to it happening. This is a true safety hazard and something must be done about it. It is not fair that we pay so much money for a car and then when something happens to it you can't even get it fixed. But i bet if it was one of those corporate peoples cars they would have no problem honoring the warranty or better yet giving them a new car.
My car started smoking one day while i was driving down the road going about 25-30mph it was so bad people started yelling!!! get out .. Get out ..your car on fire..i pulled over so embarrassed.... And i got out...the smoke had the back of the .car black...from the smoke out of the tailpipe.so i waited 30-45had car towed back home ...i stay 35 mins from kia dealership so i had to wait until next day to take over there. And surprisely they told me sludge oil.at this point it was only 32,000 miles. I asked how can i fix the problem they said..they dont fix sludge oil... And made it very clear they was voiding my warranty because i didn't have all my receipts from previous oil changes. And this come from lack of maintenance... Ok. So i got oil changes every 2,000 problem slowed down.. No sensors was on or nothing.... One day went to store came home and parked never cranked...55k miles towed to st.augustine kia dealership said the engine is shocked...it didn't have any noise coming from anywhere.. We thought it was a dead battery or starter..kia said engine i just don't understand..
Was driving on the freeway at about 55 mph, got in lane 4 to exit the highway when my engine just turned off. I drifted to the side of the highway and tried to restart the engine. When i tried to restart the engine smoke started to come from the engine. Towed the vehicle to the dealership where they stated that they would call me with any updates (this was after telling me that it would cost $165 to diagnose). Just got the ecu updated approx. 6 months ago. No check engine light or anything popped up on the dash, just got the oil changed 06/15/2019. There are approx. 118k miles.
Engine light just started flashing and no acceleration whatsoever.takes forever just to get up to 30 mph.called kia and was told they don't know if there's a recall or not on that year. Not helpful at all.i'm afraid for my daughter to even drive it now and it's her only form of transportation to work.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle decelerated without warning and made an abnormal knocking noise. The vehicle was towed to university kia (5105 durham-chapel hill blvd, durham, nc 27707) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed due to metal shavings in the oil. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,673. The vin was unknown.
I was driving my car on the freeway and when the speed hit 60mph the car stalled and alot of smoke came out of the exaust. The card behind me had to slow down. I managed to pull over to the side and the check engine light came on and the car shut off. I turned it on and the check engine light was not on anymore and the car made smoke. I called comunity kia on baytown and they said there was a bad pcv valave that had to be replaced. I paid for it and they replaced it and as i drove off home the car kept doing the same and stalling. I called the dealer and they told me they had to do an oil consumption test. The first test my car was low 2 quarts and they said the car was fine. "it lost 2 quarts but we dont know where its going" i told her it didnt feel safe to drive i didnt want it to catch fire and she said the car was fine. Than i drove it 600 miles and the car threw a whole lot more smoke and the engine was knocking and i took it back to the dealer. They said it was fine and the smoke i claimed was coming out was not. That the technicians turned it on and drove it did not see any smoke. I showed up to the dealer and turned it on and smoke came out and pressed on the gas and a huge cloud came out. They told me it was unbelievable. So now they want me to get a new engine and say its because i failed to do the oilchange.
I had 2 incidents with my cars engine not even a year apart! i got my car 8/1/2020 on 10/03/2020 i had a blinking engine light come on. I got it towed to the kia dealership and they told me they were going to replace my engine because their is recall.. Well they didnā€™t they ended up running a ā€testā€¯ and the engine light ā€came offā€¯ and they gave me my car back. Now weā€™re back again with another engine problem on 5/20/2021 my engine light, oil light and battery came on! luckily i pulled over in time because shortly after my car seized and then didnā€™t start! my pap came to get me and checked my oil and there was none in there! i just got an oil change and every time i get an oil change i run out of oil and coolant and windshield fluid so fast and get it replaced in between oil changes itā€™s ridiculous! i definitely think it had something to do with the recall on my engine iā€™m still waiting for a diagnosis on my car and itā€™s been 5 days since iā€™ve had my car towed to kia with no answers still!
I was driving home from work and i noticed my vehicle having a hard time picking up speed and soon after it was a noticeable knocking noise coming from the engine. The rpm and dashboard gauges were very sporadic. I parked the car and popped the hood to find that there was somehow absolutely no oil, but no current sign of leaking from underneath. The car continues to knock when i start it up and am afraid of it overheating and it is currently parked. It smells definitely like burntness and when shifting into d3 and d it seems to be the most apparent that the engine could be having touble. Speeds and rpm gauge are most sporadic at high speeds and the exhaust pipe seems to have residue of some sort that isn't normal.
My son was driving the car , when he had to pull over and realize the smoke coming from the hood. When he opened the hood the engine was on fire. This cat was just recently purchased 3weeks prior to the engine catching on fire. The car was purchased through paulding chrysler dealership. A down payment was made towards the purchase
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph on a freeway in the third lane (far left), the vehicle stalled. The contact coasted to the right shoulder, smoke started to emerge from the engine compartment. The contact opened the hood and a fire started in front of the fire wall. The contact mentioned that when coasting to the right shoulder, he nearly crashed due to the failure. The contact extinguished the fire using a gallon of water that was in the trunk of the vehicle. The police and the fire department were not present. The contact and the front passenger fid not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was towed to the residence by aaa. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was then towed then to a repair center where it was determined that a bearing shot through the engine and as a result the engine needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired as of yet and the contact had been driving a rental vehicle in the meantime. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
My kia started out making a strange squealing noise, then it started loosing power. When i stop at a light or stop sign i push the gas peddle and it takes awhile to get up toeven 35 mph. I was told the turbo manifold was bad so i had one put on. The next day it started making a cha cha cha noise.i took it back and had to get another turbo, once again same thing.kia dealers said turbo again. So i'm out labor and turbo cost once again.i have to work i need my car, i need it fixed now.i love the car but i am so sick of stressing over expenses, and loosing my job not able to get there.i just want it fixed correctly, or money to get a dependable vehicle. I've never had problems with my gmc, chevy and pontiac vehicles.i do love my kia but i will go back to the most reliable car.no power is dangerous when you need to take off but the car bogs down. So i you will i really need to find a mechanic that can tell me what exactly is wrong and fix it.five mechanics apparently don't know either.i don't need my car to catch on fire.so please tell me some good news that i will have a dependable car soon.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle made an abnormal noise without warning. The contact mentioned that the noise was emitting from the engine. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnosed or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000.
Vehicle stalled on the highway and locked the steering capability.
Shortly after crossing over train tracks i noticed the car would not accelerate anymore. I looked at the dashboard and observed several lights on and the rpm was at 0. I rolled to a stop and tried to restart the engine several times with no luck. I had the car towed to a local kia dealership and they later told me that the engine failed. They said they are filing a claim with kia to see what they are going to do.i previously got a letter from kia that instructed me to have a dealership update the ecu so that the car goes into "limp home" mode if there is a problem. I have never experienced anything limp. The car was at 101000 miles when the breakdown occurred. Hopefully kia replaces the engine.
I was driving on the highway when my engine completely failed. There was no warning or indication that a complete failure was going to occur. I had no propulsion and had to coast to the shoulder of the highway to avoid other vehicles. I owned the vehicle as the only owner (purchased vehicle brand new) for only three years when failure occurred. No one expects their vehicle to fail in a three year time period from date of purchase. The mileage at the time of failure was around 180,000 and past the warrenty. I drive for uber and purchased the vehicle to drive for uber. A new vehicle failing in a three year time span (from time of purchase) because the engine completely failed is unreasonable. Kia issued a software upgrade on my vehicle after my engine failed that addresses the exact type of failure that occurred to my vehicle (indicating that kia was aware that there were problems with their product.
I was headed from ohio to michigan and all of a sudden it won't let me accelerate anymore and i get this burning smell and then all the dash lights start flashing and then the car just completely stops i pop the hood open on the side of the road and it's leaking oil which is not my fault cause i just got the oil changed and then the car just refuses to start now i can get the lights on and stuff but as for the engine turning over it's just not gonna happen and i'm surprised kia hasn't had a recall on anything at all for these engines cause there are so many complaints about them
While driving car shut off. Started smoking and now will not start
Vehicle suddenly stopped while traveling on highway from mississippi to pennsylvania, when vehicle stopped there was not any oil in the car. My son had it towed to nearest walmart, purchased 3 quarts, and continued. Four hours down the road vehicle stopped while i was driving.hei was close to birmingham around 11 at night. He stayed on the side of the highway until morning called a tow truck and took to riverside kia where an engine analysis was done. He told my son the is owner negligience. He told him according the miles on the vehicle he should have had at least 9 oil changes, but there where only 3 receipts in the car. Prior to this incidence his vehicle had been broken into. He was able to locate other receipts. He had the oil changed 3 weeks before this (oct 29, 2016)
Engine light came on,then the oil light. I stopped to check oil. There was no oil on the dipstick. I checked for leaks. Found none. I added 2 quarts.the engine was knocking. I took it to the dealership.my car was under warranty. But wouldn't replace it. It would cost me $7200.so i tried to drive it home, and it quit.the engine shut down. I had to have it towed home.this was in november 2016. And it is still down.then i heard kia is getting a class action lawsuit against them, for oil flow issues. I'm still paying on the car.i financed through my credit union. So they already got there money. I think that is why they are screwing me over. To be clear i had just left the dealership when it quit. It never made a sound, the dealership had it 3 days.
Engine caught fire! had picked the kia optima up the day before from the dealership, where they had installed a new engine, belts, and hoses. Had driven 40 minutes for a doctor appt. Got off the freeway. As i was approaching the light (about 3 blocks from freeway), noticed gray smoke coming from under hood on passenger side. With a broken left arm, had to get out and across traffic. Saw the flames as i was crossing the street. In under a minute, the front of car was engulfed in flames.
20k miles-2015 kia optima- white smoke coming out of tail pipe- vehicle cutting out /almost stalling when accelerating.no indicator light illuminated regarding oil or engine issue.took to dealership-diagnosed with "sludge" and told need new engine -quote $6500-$8000 and was told my options were a.) fix it or b.) don't fix it- provided oil change receipt had on hand-have to dig & research to obtain past service- warranty claim denied- kia- unwilling to assist-bad business-
While driving, smoke started coming out from under the hood. I quickly pulled to the side of the road and shut the car off. We got out of the car immediately. Once the engine was off approx 20 minutes later the smoke started to die down. At that point, i was to scared to turn the car back on to see if i could drive it home. The next morning i had it towed to kia. While the car was at kia the technician said it was not an engine issue he thinks it may be from a sludge build up from oil (because he really doesn't know what else it could be).i had just taken my car for its oil changed that same day. Which they did not say anything about any kind of build up. The kia employees were rude when i called and requested a loaner car. They at first told me to come down and pick up a car, once i drove in, they denied me for a loaner car and told me i could rent one for 35 a day. The technician said they can't get a code to come up on the diagnostic test, which kia then is telling me it will not be covered under my extended warranty. When asked why they are replacing the engine, their response is that because of the sludge build up they have too, when really they don't technically know for sure what caused the smoke issue. So now kia is expecting me to pay 7,000 for a new engine, which would be covered if they can get a code to come up. So, now i am forced to pay this to get my car up and running so i don't lose my job (which i have already missed several days due to not having a vehicle). My father and i met with the service manager and he is undecided what the issue, or cause is at this time. This exact same thing happened to a friend of mine, and kia told her the same thing that it was caused from a oil sludge issue, but after months of arbitration, kia compensated her for the damages.
Car appeared to stall while on highway.safely pulled over and was able to restart.local shop said they could not find anything wrong.next day a very loud kocking started, took it to the dealership who informed me of the engine recall.while my year was not in the recall they would be replacing the engine once i provide receipts showing my oil changes done outside of their location.
My engine starting burning oil and smoking. I literally had to get the oil changed every 2-3 days. When i took the car to kia, they informed me that some engines had been recalled but mine was covered under the recall. They wanted to charge me for a new engine which i eventually had to replace on my own because they would not take responsibility.i later learned several colleagues had the same issue with their engines and got it replaced.
've had nothing but problems with my car, first with my break light switch, then my a/c control panel went out . Now. As i was waiting for my food in the drive through lane my car engine turned off but my car was still on, i was able to turn my car off and get my engine going again.i also have an issue where my engine won't start but my car will turn on also when stopped at stop lights i often feel my car jitter a little. I had my battery checked but that wasn't the problem. I will be taking my car to the dealership to see what the issue is.
While driving on the expressway, the car made a noise and the gas wouldn't give the car power. I pulled over to the side and while doing so the car shut off. After having it towed to the mechanic they said it is a seized engine. This is the second kia that this has happened to!!
My 2015 kia optima has 26,456 miles. The last oil change was performed at 26,064 miles. On 6/4/16 while driving approx. 50mph in 3 lane traffic the engine seized up, car shut down and interior filled with smoke. Had vehicle towed to kia. Was told it needs a new engine due to sludge in the oil. Kia is refusing to honor the warranty because i cannot produce receipts for previous oil changes. I have researched and many other kia vehicles are having very similar problems with low miles! there has to be something wrong that kia is not aware of or is just not willing to admit. Not only will they not fix my vehicle but i fear someone is going to get hurt or even killed. I informed kia of my concern but they did not seem to care.
My car mileage is at 65000 i had the car last year march i do regular oil changes a month and half ago i did another oil change and when it was time to get another oil change there is a ticking sound in engine brought it to pep boys and mechanics and they are saying its a oil defect and rod bearing ticking whenever i accelerate car won't move
Engine just locked up will not respond you turn the key and nothing happens i was driving on hwy and it just shut off and wouldnt start again ive had it at the repair shop and they cannot fiqure out the problem they think it needs a new engine it has had regular oil changes and never had any issues before
Engine shut down while driving at 47,700 miles causing engine failure code dtc p1326 will drop off at a kia dealership for diagnostic of engine.
I wanted to add more information to my complaint. When in motion in front of high school car went into limp mode with knocking noise coming from engine. My husband is a mechanic and discovered metal flakes inside engine.i was never notified of any recalls involving the engine. Now i have to purchase a new or remanufactured engine costing estimated $3000 to $4500 not including core charges and shipping fees.
While driving the vehicle, the power cut off, - coasted to a complete stop.engine does not turn over.lights/radio etc all work, so not a battery issue. There is a recall for previous model years of this same vehicle specific to engine failture.
As i was driving my 2015 optima to the store my check engine light came on. The next day i started my car and heard a rattling or ticking sound, this was on labor day, so i turned my car off and called the dealership. Due to holiday the service dept was not open. I called them again on tuesday sept 6th and was advised they would have it towed. I received a phone call on tuesday evening stating my motor has sludge and needs to be replaced.
Sounds like pieces of metal was left in the engine during the time of manufacturing and was never taken out ,the vehicle was still running, i decided to take it to get checked , the device at kia of essington of philadelphia said it was a grinding sound on the bottom end of the engine
Takata recall in 03/2019 i went to merge on interstate in traffic and i could not get enough speed to keep up with traffic, the car was make a loud noise and would not go over 30mph. We took straight to dealership who told me my turbo had failed and there was "sludge in the oil" they assured me this would be covered by kia warranty, my car only had 70,000 miles and i ssumed this would be the case with the 100,000 mile warranty kia offers. The dealership submitted my claim several times and it was denied, so we paid the 3000$ to have it repaired. They assured us everything was good to go. 1 month later we took a 5 hour trip and the motor blew up on us as soon as we got there, we called to have the car towed and kia would not tow it, so we arranged for it to be towed back home and to the dealership. They told us they have so many kia with the same problem they could not even look at my car for atleast 7days. I still havent heard from them about a claim.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving approximately 40 mph, a rattling noise was present coming from the engine and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
While in in motion on the highway my car completed stop accelerating , (while pressing on the gas it was not going anywhere and then my engine light started blinking i pulled over and the car would not start up again . Then it finally did 20 minute later but the gas would not accelerate more that 55 mph and it shut off and would not start back up , i get my regular maintenance on time my car not even two years old and i took it to a shop apparently my engine has ceased up due to the luminal blocks . Now that is 6300 dollars and my car was just fine and i have previously discovered on line that my kia optima was not the first to have this happen.
Driving car ; just went dead , not the battery : now won't crank just clicks ; car has recall for excessive connecting rod bearing damage
2015 optima sxl with 130k miles regularly maintained with all highway miles.while traveling on the highway at 70 mph, car began to make a mild klanking sound.slowed the vehicle down and shortly thereafter, a loud bang occurred under the hood and engine lost all power.pulled off the on the shoulder and engine compartment was on fire.the engine and a few other lights were on. Luckily, i was able to get out of the vehicle which continued to burn.the car is a total loss.no prior sounds or noises suggesting a problem.all kia updates or maintenance notices were handled by a kia dealer.the vehicle was purchased new and has been well maintained with all oil changes and maintenance done by a shop.have had no major problems with this vehicle and this is not only a surprise but a concern as this is my second kia (prior one is still owned).
Oil light began to flicker, right before the engine began making horrible grinding noises. Engine blew shortly after. Vehicle was up to date on normal scheduled maintenance.
Engine froze due to lack of oil being pumped
Engine lights keep coming on and off. But doesn't give a code when i take it to get serviced. Took it up to kia to tell them that on my way home from the dealership, that my wall caught on fire in the trunk from the socket that holds the bulbs.back lights go out constantly after the bulbs are changed or the socket has been changed.
My engine is ticking and tapping don't know what it could be got my oil change it's in the front part of the vehicle02
Enginequit operating at 98375 would not go past 60 would sputter rpms would not go past2 rpmshad towed to dealer shipcomplete engine fairer replacedwith new engine 4 day with new engine engine light is on again
I was driving on interstate 40 in tennessee and my car just stopped running. I was in right lane and i pulled off to shoulder. A dot emergency repair truck stopped and tried to jump my car, but nothing happened, not even a noise or anything. Called aaa for a tow.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. The vehicle was towed to patrick kia (4810 nine mile rd, richmond, va) where it was diagnosed that the oil in the engine was not being correctly distributed and recommended an engine replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The vin was not provided.
My 2015 kia optima sxl turbo is making a knocking sound when i hit the gas. It also stalled on me while at a stop light.
Engine failed on my 2015 kia optima while exiting the freeway. The car was making a knocking noise, started smoking, started to lose power, and stalled.i had the car towed into a kia dealership. Kia issued recalls for this problem on several models through the 2014 models.they failed to issue a recall for 2015 models. They initially refused to honor the warranty and wanted close to $6,000 to replace the engine. Financially, this was not possible for me and i had to have the car voluntarily repossessed. I filed a formal, written complaint and explained the situation, including the fact that i had to have the car repossessed.at that point, they responded with a settlement agreement stating they would honor the warranty, if i released them from further responsibilty. This offer was not feasible, as i no longer had the vehicle. At this point, they told me there was nothing else they could do for me. I asked for a written response to my complaint and was told they cannot do that.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 60 mph, smoke emitted from the engine compartment without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the number two cylinder was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 58,000.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine); however, the failures were similar. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
I was driving and out of nowhere the car started to bog down and the check engine light came on. It continued to do it every few seconds and was getting worse the whole way to the shop, which was the closest one i could find as soon as it started doing it. The shop ran the error code and got a knock sensor error. I had kia come pick it up and take it to the shop. The shop performed a bearing clearance check and the vehicle did not pass so they replaced the engine and intake manifold due to "catastrophic failure". While replacing the engine they found the turbo had play and so they installed a new turbo assembly. After engine replacement they found the starter seized, they replaced the starter. After engine replacement they performed the ecu update and reset adaptive values, then performed wiring signal interference check which started ok. Immediately after getting the vehicle back from the shop i noticed a loud noise coming from front driver wheel area. Shop ended up replacing caliper and wheel bearings along with needing an alignment. All happened around 58k miles. Luckily still under warranty. Shop said it was just a bad engine. Nothing i could of done could of caused it.
Driving down a city street less than a mile from my home, the car stalled just before the intersection.i could not restart the engine.there were no oil or check engine warning lights showing.i coasted to a parking space and checked the battery. All the lights worked but the engine would not turn on. I had the car towed to the kia dealer.they checked the car and said it was my fault because there was no oil in the car.i had the oil changed at 50,000 miles and the car has 56,000 miles on it.the car is still under 60,000 miles so the warranty should still be good but they refuse to fix it they did not give me a loaner car because kia refuses to pay for the engine.there is a recall on the ecu logic upgrade (ksds) which they installed in september 2018 along with a catalytic converter replacement, they are using any excuse so they don't have to pay.
As i was driving on the interstate 3 vehicles passed waving frantically before speeding by. I noticed a reflective orange flicker along the base each vehicle. This was followed up by a loud knocking sound before i lost all accelerating power but retained rpm revs as i pressed the pedal. I allowed the momentum to get me as far up the exit ramp as possible prior to pulling over onto the grass. I placed the car in park and turned it off to be met with an instant roll of smoke up the front windshield, out of the front grill, and from the passenger side tire area. I exited the vehicle to the sound of liquid hitting a hot surface and hissing. I stepped away from the vehicle and looked underneath to be met with rolls of fire dripping to the ground from beneath the engine and along the bottom center of the undercarriage of the car. I immediately cleared the area and my vehicle was complete engulfed in flames in less than 4 minutes. No sensors or alarms notified me of any type of malfunction.
2015 kia optima was out of oil @ 22,000 miles and no indicator light had gone on when it was taken to an oil change.the oil change place was the one that indicated that the vehicle had no oil in it. It started making some rattling noise specially goint uphill so i took it in to kia service department.they diagnosed it with "sludge" in the engine and engine would have to be replaced. I had to prove 3 previous receipts of oil changes otherwise the warranty would not cover it. I do not have those receipts and 16 days later took it to the same place i did most recent oil change because oil light had turned on.the vehicle again had no oil in it.the topped it off but mentioned that it was not normal for such a recent model to be burning oil.vehicle is still running but makes rattling noise once in a while, produces white smoke out of exhaust pipe and i have to put oil in it every couple of days.i cannot afford to buy a new engine.i am a single mom and needs a reliable vehicle to get to work.
I have a 2015 kia optima with 24,300 miles i purchase my car brand new from southwest kia . I took my car in for service because i had just recently had oil change at walmart 700 miles later my oil light started appearing. I took it to kia because recently having oil change and car was no longer registering oil. Kia went on to tell very little oil was in my car i informed them that i had just had oil changed 700 miles ago. So from there dealership did oil change. I was back at the dealership week later with same issue. Service stated that he found sludge and i stated that i have held up my end of the deal with oil changes as well as i provided my receipt or oil changes. Dealership is not willing to hold up there 100,000 power train warranty stating that i was not getting oil changed in a timely manner which isbs. I have been researching and i found other 2015 kia optima owner were having the same issue as i am having with car excessive oil usage, oil sludge and engine problems as i am. I have been in contact with kia consumer dept for help. I have also been in contact with channel 11 and channel 4 consumer justice dept. I have attached copies of other owners with the same issue. You we work hard to pay for and to have a reliable transportation for the dealership not to hold up there end of the deal. I believe that kiais aware of these issues and neglecting to help the buyers who have purchase these cars. It's strange that i found ten other 2015 kia optima owners with exact same issue. 2014 models have already had a recall i think 2015 model should be included to the recall. I have attached other kia owners complaints and issueswith this model car.
Driving the car, car just stalled out while driving in traffic.i was literally stalled on a busy road during morning rush hour.had car towed to the local aaa repair center and they said there was no oil in the engine although i get regular oil changes.the car was working fine, no engine or oil lights to alert that the oil pressure was low.
The motor stopped while driving, it locked up.
Engine sound very loud sound any time i start the engine since brand new.
This car has given me problems first the engine went up just locked up. The brakespulsate won't stop and i have changed the rotors and brakes 3 times. The dealer said nothing is wrong. Suspensions car rocks and bounces . Now the radio is out. And my window won't go up if put down. The was in motion for all.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled and the power steering malfunctioned. Lou fusz kia (1025 n lindbergh blvd, st. Louis, mo 63132, (314) 595-4900) stated that they could not find any failures with the vehicle. The dealer also stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per an unknown recall; however, the manufacturer found no record of a previous recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 84,000.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v519000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving 75 mph, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled without warning. The contact pulled off the roadway and attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle then was towed to victory kia (5101 n. Navarro st, victoria, tx 77904, (361) 333-4542) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the parts distribution disconnect. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
While driving on the highway, had to slow down for a vehicle in front of me. After this i tried to accelerate the vehicle, it was not responding and all the dashboard lights came on. Now the vehicle started slowing down and luckily it lasted until the exit and i had to stop on the ramp and get my vehicle towed to the nearby mechanic.
Every since i bought my 2015 kia optima from the kia dealership in woodstock ga i have noticed a strange smell like burning oil in the engine i could smell it inside my vehicle while driving as well .also the engine always seemed to be running hot and certain days it took numerous trys to make the car start .also my lights would constantly flicker inside the vechile .i have payed off my kia and sold it now but i received a letter stating i would be be eligible for somekind of compensation even after it was sold i'd like more information on this i lost the first letter i was sent so please let me know all my options here thank u and god bless my my car was a 2015 kia optima ibegan financing the vechile through ally on 12/04/2018 it was paid off 10/31/2019 also i kept hearing a knocking sound the whole time i drove my vehicle comeing from my engine as well as a burning smell while driving
My car is rapid losing oil in between regular oil changes. I have to constantly put oil in weekly and there not has there ever been any leaks. The oild is burning off way faster then it should burn. So on top of routine maintenance i have to purchase oil on top of it. The timing chain is suffering due to the engine going dry way too fast. This is a recall issue there is nothing wrong with my vehicle. This is very dangerous for someone unaware of this type of issue. The oil turns black quicker then it should as well. My mechanic said you all need to replace these right away or something bad is going to happen. It has taken a year for me to figure out how to report this issue.
Around 55,000 miles i started having low oil and having to add oil, shortly i heard some rattling under the hood. At this time i also started to notice white smoke from the tailpipe when i would accelerate. I took it in to the dealership and they refused to cover it under warranty saying i did not maintain the proper oil changes. I offered proof of all my oil change receipts and they still denied to fix it. I could not afford the fix they say needed to be done so i just decided i would just add the extra oil to the engine every week however around 63,000 the engine blew. Now currently the car is at the dealership and i am awaiting to see what they will do about it. I have read so many complaints on this exact issue on this car and i expect them to fix my car.
I was driving on the street and with no warning my car stalled and shut off. I turned my car back on and it was okay, no lights or noises. The next day i was going to drive my car i heard a tapping noise coming from the right passenger side near the engine, but car still was functional. A few hours later the check engine light came on, the noise is still there.
I was driving down the road and my car just shut off an wouldnt start back.. A shop told me the motor was locked up as well as the timing chain was broken. It only has 80,000 miles an should not have a problem like this what so ever already!!! one kia dealership told me that it would be 6-11,000 dollars to fix it! another kia dealership said that they do have a recall on the motor locking up and that they might fix it? if there's a recall it shouldn't be a might they should for sure fix it i feel.. Also, i do have it serviced regularly like im supposed to.
I have a 2015 kia optima that completely died on meon 4/1/18. We were waiting to turn into a business parking lot and the engine just shut off in the turning lane. We tried jumping it and it did nothing. It was towed to the dealership the next day and before they even looked at it, they were saying the engine probably seized and said we need to get our oil change records together because we needed a new engine. They proceeded to try and blame it on us as we did not go to the dealership to have the oil changed. Who would think to save oil change records?! we've owned many different cars and never had to do this or ever had our engine seize. Kia will most likely refuse to replace the engine, even though it is still under warranty. To replace the engine, we were told it would cost $7,000 and possibly take up to a month to complete. I still owe money on this car and can't do anything with it. Since we're a one car family, we were forced to go out and buy another car last night. I'm disgusted with how we were treated and will never buy another kia again. They should be paying off my loan because they were well aware of the engine issues in the 2011-2014 optimas, and still sold us a car that was possibly defective.
The vehicle was in motion and had an oil change the previous day. The vehicle lost power and an audible clicking or tapping noise came on while driving on the highway. My wife had just enough time to pull off into a local business and parked the car. I took it to kia and they advised there was "sludge" in the engine and we had not been maintain the vehicle properly. Offered to produce records but they advised they still would not cover it.
After fueling the vehicle up, and started to head down a busy roadway the engine of my vehicle seized up and would not start again. The only reason both the dealership and manufacturer are giving me its because of the lack of maintenance but the car was bought in to the dealership service department on december 16 2016, and i was told that everything was functioning. This sameproblem is currently going on with the 2011-2014 version of this vehicle but the company refuses to acknowledge that the later version my have this dangerous issue.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The vehicle lost motive power and stalled while drivingthe contact was unable to restart the vehiclethe vehicle had to be towed due to engine failurethe contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, without warning the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the contact's place of employment. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Car pros kia huntington beach, 18835 beach blvd, huntington beach, ca 92648,(714) 274-4632, was contacted and informed of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75000.
Nearing 60,000 miles, the car started to make a weird engine noise. The kia dealership found that the connecting rod was bad and the engine needed replaced.this issue is very well know and widespread. The kia dealership informed me that the engine could catch fire, should the engine blow. The dealership felt that it was a manufacture issue but kia corp. Declined to replace the engine, which is the only option available to repair the issue.the reason given was that the oil was not at the recommend level.i had the oil changed last summer and there was no indication that the oil was low; no service light or oil level light. To avoid putting my 6yr. Old at risk, i had to choose to pay $5500 to have the engine replaced.this is a large amount of money that effects my child's day-to-day.i have also come to learn that the engine installed is re-manufactured and only has a 12-month warranty.despite kia's reasoning, this issue seems to be far too common for hyundai/kia owners, plus they have already issued a recall for older models with the same engine.at the very least, the re-manufactured engines should carry a longer warranty.
Excessive oil consumption with no leaks visible
When taking off at a stop light or getting onto the interstate (basically when accelerating) the car feels like it has no power. You can hear a weird noise and sometimes you will smell burnt oil or something burnt. Also, i had a recent oil change and within the month i had to add oil again. There is no sign on my driveway that there is a leak. Please look into this as there are multiple people with the same issues.
Trying to avoid another vehicle approaching me in a head on collision, my engine began to stall, brakes locked up which caused suspension issues of the vehicle. Due to this, the vehicle was completely totaled and global lending services is consistently reporting it as a repossession. Both vehicles were in motion and it was on a la hwy.
While driving 55mph on highway vehicle suddenly stalled.i was able to coast to the shoulder on the right. I was not able to restart vehicle.vehicle left on highway to be towed.
Had my oil changed when supposed to they advised my car was almost on empty, after changed i hadn't drove it about 1,000 miles and i noticed it white smoke when i started it coming out of tail pipe, checked my oil and it was below the low level.i'm having to put oil in every few days and its supposed to be 2000 more miles til time to change it again.this has been happening about a month now, its not leaking oil, just burning it.now while driving my car if i try to give it gas to accelerate my car starts losing power and a lot of white smoke comes out the pipe.its still drivable as of now but this is obviously a huge issue with these make/models for the 2015's. I'm taking to a dealership next week to diagnose the problem
Engine failure at 15 months old and 42,000 miles.kia denied warranty coverage because i could not prove oil changes.same complaint as thousands of other kia vehicles, happened abruptly, car starting making loud rattling noise on acceleration while driving, no warning, sludge in engine.i had to pay out of pocket for a new engine to be installed with no assistance from kia or my local dealership.
Did an oil change and after that engine light came on and ever since i've been hearing a knocking noise
My 2015 kiaoptima has 23000 miles.. I couldn't remember when i had the oil changed, but i was driving on 75 coming from fla. The ac stop working and then shortly after that the car started to slow down. It finally came to a complete stop, when i got it to the kia dealership they informed me that the engine had seized .because the said i could not prove that the oil had been changed, the warranty would not cover it. I bought the car brand new. Only had it 15 months. There was no warning lights or any signs of trouble .kia will not fix it, they want almost 8.000 to put in a new engine.
Vehicle cutoff while driving on the freeway the vehicle cut lost speed andcut off.
On march 7th 2019, i was driving down the highway at approximately 60 miles an hour i felt a click, & my engine light my oil light and my battery light illuminated. My car did not shut off but gas was not able to flow into the engine therefore i was coasting down the highway.i was able to get off on to the exit ramp i pulled over to the side, then i was able to shut my car off. I then began to restart the car, & it did restart i proceeded to put it in drive move forward, but the three lights illuminated once again. This was in the middle of the intersection.i shut the car off again, then, proceeded to restart the car, it restarted and i was able to drive the rest of the way to work, which was a very short distance. Later that day i downloaded the uvo app it did a diagnostic test and found nothing wrong with the vehicle., this test was wrong, something went wrong & is wrong. According to past recalls, the engine has seized and similar reports have been made. I found this extremely scary because of the fact i was driving down the highway in medium traffic, my engine stopped the lights came on and i did not know what was going to happen. Luckily i was still able to move the steering wheel enough to get off on the exit ramp and to pull to the side. I recently bought this vehicle and i've only had it for 6 months. I have had the oil changed only at the dealership, and any other services have done by the dealer ship. I am afraid to drive the car because of what happened, and what i have read from the past experiences of kia optima owners this has happened to.
2015 kia optima with approx 68,000 miles. Going up hill up a ramp to merge onto highway around 40 mph when the check engine light illuminated and would no longer accelerate. Shortly after, the oil and battery lights illuminated and car coasted as far as possible into shoulder as i could. Car would not restart. Sat on the on-ramp for quite a while partially blocking traffic and almost had some near miss accidents from other drivers passing and honking at me. Towed to kia dealership same morning. Tech believes my engine has seized but no official diagnosis. They provided me with a loaner car at no charge. I am original owner and hope kia will replace my engine at no cost and buy my car back. I am scared of the vehicle fires that are happening with these engines for other people. My car gave me no failure warning until it was too late.
On june 26 2019 i contacted monroeville kia due to my car smoking when accelerating, i advised them it felt as if we're trying to stall. They scheduledme an appt july 9,2019.i dropped my car off and a few hours later they called and said everythingwas and the did some sort of engine software upgrade but found no issues. I drove off the lot and started experiencing the same issue only now i could feel the engine shaking. I contacted the dealership i purchased it from which was century 3 kia. The scheduled me for july 23, i dropped the car off and several hours later they called and said i need a new engine. They denied the claim saying it wad due to maintenance however i produced oil change receipts. The software upgrade that they did is software to detect the engine failure. They are aware it's a known issue but are not recallingtheir vehicles and are refusing to take responsibly for a defective product that could catch fire
The car engine died one day when i was driving up a hill in heavy rain on a very busy two way street with four lanes across. We're lucky we weren't injured because other cars coming up behind us couldn't see that well in the rain. There was never any knocking or indication of anything wrong. It just died out of the blue. We took it to kia and they said the engine seized due to sludge. I had to get the engine rebuilt on my own dime ($3000 plus towing etc.) because kia refused to honor the warranty. The car was only about a year old at that point. They told me i had to give them all receipts showing oil changes etc. And even when i brought the receipts they said it wasn't enough and that it was my fault. Not to mention kia has already recalled this same engine in earlier models and it's the same engine (theta ii) that is in the huyundai sonata which was also recalled for seizing/sludge. It is pretty obvious this engine is faulty and kia needs to recall it but they aren't including this 2015 in the recall with the 2014, 2013 and 2012 models.
Sudden engine knock and sudden engine failure while vehicle was in motion in front of a high school.this incident requires engine replacement.
My vehicle is among the vehicles registered/qualifying for a recall. My dealer was to have replaced my entire engine during the first recall my vehicle received. Within a week/some 5 days or so my check engine light was back on. Taking the car back to my dealer, it was suggested that i pay $145 just for them to do a diagnostic on the/my vehicle they had just serviced. My car is currently registered/qualifies for a recall that stems and or is related to the previous recall that my car had... As recently as a few days ago (1/8/2020), the same dealer supposedly 'fixed' the recent recall. I'd went by the dealership, they serviced the vehicle - check engine light went/was off. I'd say what was an hour or so having the car back in my possession from the dealer, the check engine light was back on. I'm appalled at the fact that i'm currently experiencing a issue that has been on going over a year. In my research on recalls i'm not to be charged anything by law surrounding rectifying a recall. On more than one occasion my dealer has suggested that i pay after feeling that they've rectified the problem concerning my vehicles recall. I have valid third party diagnostics that interestinglyenough were free, unlike the diagnostics my dealer would suggest i pay for on a car that is surrounded by a serious recall issue. And more interesting is my having received a diagnostic that rendered the results that are the same codes surrounding the recall, and this after/on a day/ the last day - my car was serviced/supposedly 'fixed.' i'm appalled at the suggestion that i 'upgrade,' into a new car, pay anything, how any car having received a 'new engine,' though 5 days later the check engine light is back on - that's 'scary.' i have necessary documentation that can show my dealer is oblivious to public safety laws surrounding recalls due to remedies they suggested on 'fixing,' my vehicle.
Hi my 2015 kia optima on 08/07/2020 i put the recommended gas in my tank and then got onto the interstate after about 5-15 mins it started loosing power and i could no longer accelerate past 60. Also now when i start driving it jerks really bad and won't go past 2 on the rpms. When it jerks i'm assuming that it is the gears trying to change. Also my check engine has acted weird ever since buying this car it comes and goes and just recently is when it stayed on and when this happened it began flashing when the loss of power and couldn't accelerate properly issue began
As i was coming up to at stop light it felt as if the car had loss power i look down at my dash to see all my indicator lights on i tried to push on the gas but all it did was stutter with very lilttle power did want to go so i pulled to side turn key off for 5 mins orso checke all fluids caps and lines all was ok started right back up but it was a slight thump sound coming from engine but didn't think nothing of it cause it wasn't loud enough i thought to be concern few mins into driving sound kinda faded. Very next day maybe 15 miles into driving same thing happened again loss power indicator. Lights come on i pull over only this time i sit wait 5 10 mins try to start car again it doesn't even crank over 20 mins go by i try to start it and it does only to hear that same thumping sound but loudly this timeso i put car in drive sound fades as i start slightly pushing car the thump sound became a loud metal sounding noise like silverware bouncing in a bucketi turn it off an it's been sitting since
Engine oil consumption is extremely high with no leaks and caused damage to the engine.causing car to quit and lose power.i have been doing my oil changes correctly.
The contact owned a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and failed to accelerate while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed as an engine failure. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer and the dealer informed the contact that they needed the maintenance history receipts. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,978.
While driving vehicle caught on fire brakes did not work car shut off had to jump out of the car in never came to a complete stop fire department had to come and put the fire out total loss
My daughter was driving down main street when everything shut off, electrical, motor, steering wheel locked up . She coasted to the side of the road , a man pulled over to help her after 20 mins the car was as able to start again.3rd time this has happened.very scary .
When you accelerate, for example to pass another vehicle, the vehicle will completely shut off, all lights illuminating on the panel the vehicle. The vehicle must be placed in park and restarted. Sometimes it starts right away, sometimes it takes a few minutes.
Rod bearings went bad and seized the engine without any notice . Had it towed to the nearest kia dealer . Happened on the freeway
I purchased my car in the greater san diego area back in june 31. 2015. Have approximately 8k miles on my vehicle and notice around 3k my car would jerk when coming to a complete stop. This has happened a few times approximately 3-4 time (average once a month).and today 10-27-2015, my car once again jerk but this time the engine made a unfamiliar sound. I will be taking it to the dealership as soon as possible.my car has received all schedule maintenance; per owner manuel. It haspassed all kia certifed dealer/mechanic inspection when taken in. Also, when the contact to purchase was signed it did not get a full inspection as the dealership was closing and the appropriate staff for inspection had left for the day. Notice when i got home the front passenger signal light did not work. Called the dealership to get my new car fixed and had to wait for approximately 3-5 daysfor the repair, at that point it also passed thier inspection.
2015 kia optima approximately 120xxx miles, daily driverregular maintenance on vehicle.engine failed as i was driving to doctor appointment. No warnings, no fluids leaking, no irregular gauge readings, no lights. Vehicle had to be towed to nearest dealership. Confirmed engine failure, failed bearing test. Contacted kia motors consumer related to failed engine. No update on engine repair.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle loss motive power with the check engine, oil light, and battery warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer calavan kia west (1301 thornton rd, lithia springs, ga 30122, (678) 715-5399) where a diagnostic test was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 20v519000 (service brakes, hydraulic) for which the vin was included. The manufacturer was informed of failure and suggested that the vehicle be taken in for the repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
Vehicle smoking from exhaust and stalling, (26,630 miles ) taken to dealer ( rusty wallace kia ) on 05/15/18. Cleaned oil from intake. Vehicle smoking and stalling, taken back to dealer on 05/28/18. Vehicle was at dealer for 30 days. Dealer says no problems found. Vehicle still smoking and now very low on oil, vehicle taken to dealer on 11/12/18.
While driving down the road and coming to a stop light i went to take off and lost all power. I brought my vehicle into the service facility where i bought it from and i was just told i need a new engine. I have a 2015 kia optima lx with 64,000 miles.
I have a 2015 kia optima with 74,000 miles. As i was driving my vehicle on a city street when suddenly it started shaking and released black smoke prior to engine failure. A vehicle behind me had to brake and swerve to miss hitting me. This incident occurred on january 10, 2020. I received a diagnosis from the dealership confirming the vehicle had engine failure due to knock sensor and compression issues. Also stated that the head gasket is damaged. I contacted kia and initially they stated if the engine failure was due to a knock sensor issue, it would be covered. After waiting nearly 20 days kia is stating that my vehicle is out of warranty.any advice on remedies or what could be done to have my vehicle fixed is greatly appreciated.
Normal driving operation until knocking heard during low speed. Engine knocking grew louder under acceleration. Vehicle immediately taken to mechanic who stated an engine rod may be bend. Told kia has recall for this issue. Kia stated the vehicle vin is not a part of the recall. No heavy acceleration or use of the vehicle in the past. No indication of rod or engine failure.
I have never had any problems with my vehicle since the day i bought it brand new. I make sure to get regular maintenance and i am not a harsh driver. I was driving about 50 mph on a 2 lane road. The light ahead turned yellow and i slowed down to stop. Once my vehicle came to a stop at the red light, it made a weird noise like it was going to cut off but didn't. The light turned green and i began to press the gas and it seemed as if it was stalling and would not accelerate as quickly. The engine light, battery light and oil light popped on so i pulled over immediately, turned my car off and waited about 5 minutes. I crank the car back up and the only light remaining on was the engine light and my car started making a knocking noise every time i pressed the gas. I proceeded to go home and decided since it was a holiday i would take the vehicle to the dealership the next day. I went to crank my car up the next morning and the knocking noise had gotten louder. I started driving it to the dealership about a mile from my home but it turned off at a right light. I was too afraid to try again so i called aaa and had it towed to the kia dealership. Since i was still under the 100,000 mile warranty, the engine was approved to be replaced. Two weeks later, i received my vehicle. This issue was very sudden and unexpected being that i have had zero other problems nor did any hazard lights appear on my dash beforehand. My vin was checked for engine recalls and did not appear to be on the list.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle started to hesitate. The contact stated that the side-view mirrors independently move inwards to the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken several times to bayside kia of waldorf located at3188 crain hwy, waldorf, md 20603, (301) 645-1711, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.*dt
Engine locked up without any warningwhile driving down roadno prior issue
Vehicle started to make a knocking noise going down the hey at 60 mph. Car was taken to the dealer and catastrophic engine failure was diognosed. Kia commissionsers was notified.
Driving the vehicle down the feeder road of the beltway going about 40 to 45 miles per hour with no warning lights displayed or anything wrong and running normally then out of blue the engines sputters shudders and dies. This vehicle was a change the oil every 3,000 mile vehicle. I was fortunate to have an apartment driveway to coast into. Had vehicle towed to the shop i've used for 15 years and got the call the engine had seized up!
Excessive oil consumption. No visible leaks, took to the dealer once and they replaced the pcv valve.since that point the car uses a quart within a weeks time.no leaks, no smoke. Used for ordinary everyday highway driving.40 miles a day round trip
I was driving down the street came to a red light and when i tried to press the gas my wheels locked and the car wouldn't go. I had to push it down a hill and use neutral to get at least get the car off the main street and towed. The next day it was taken to kia and now they are telling me they can't help because i couldn't provide receipts of any maintenance that was done on the car over time.
I was driving my car on the street going about 35-45 mph when all of a sudden with no warning my car stopped completely. It had to be towed.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 40 mph, smoke appeared from the rear exhaust pipe. The contact also noticed an odor of oil burning. In addition, while at a stop light or stop sign, white smoke appeared from the exhaust pipe when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle also stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: kia12818043. The approximate failure mileage was 30,168.
Antenna fin blew off while driving.. And brokemy back window too.i took to dealer wont cover under warranty yet i see all complaints that this needs to be a recall .dealer wants 450.00 to replace has to be full unit although radio works fine i need this replaced at kia costs or i will open a class action case for defect. It has happened to much and 2016 got the recall it's the same antenna shark fin cap.
While driving at speeds higher than 45 mph, the steering wheel locks for a brief moment. This does not allow for a smooth way to keep the vehicle straight on the highway. Very scary.antenna cover on top of car flew off on the highway. Read that it has happened to several other 2015 optima models.back up camera is foggy and i can no longer use it when reversing.back taillights have condensation in them. I have already had one of them replaced early on.
Low beam headlights do not work on my 2015 kia optima. They don't work in motion or sitting still. Ihave to keep high beams on at night. Seems to be a common problem with all kia vehicles, yet the problem isn't being addressed.
My headlight keep going outand i have keep replacing bulbs. I be driving and lights will blink then just go out , i keep have buy light bulb every time.
Head lights and brake lights keep shorting out making it hard for you to drive at night or even during the day.the anti lock brake jams and will cause you to slide if you are not carefully in the rain and snow
The mirror inside the low beams is not working. It does not allow my headlights to project out. I barely see at night. Only lights i have are my fog lights and high beams
It seems that my lights always go out!i've replaced the front light 3 times in one year. And the back brake lights as well.i am always getting pulled over because of my light going out!the trim seems to fall off as well on back doors above window.
My lights bulb keep blowing, i have replace the brake lights, rear lights and head lights at least three times this year, there has to be somethings going on to cause this to continue to happen.
Front head lamps keeps going out, per auto shop shortage in wiring for right and left front head lamps(lights) has to replace evry three weeks
Every time i turn my headlights on my break lights stay on and the traction light comes on.people think i am riding my brakes.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. After taking the vehicle to ricart kia (4255 s hamilton rd #210, groveport, oh 43125, 614-836-6503), the contact was informed that water had accumulated in the passenger side tail light, which led to the tail light needing to be replaced. The contact was informed that the failure would continue to occur and recommended that he file a complaint with nhtsa to have the defect placed under recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 37,000.
When i'm out driving i have noticed that all kia optimas have same problem as mine. The back lights stopped working. Half of the back lights went off.
I received a safety recall notice dated 7/5/2021. When i contacted the dealership, the next available appointment was december 6, 2021. Because of the seriousness of this recall, i feel i should be given a service appointment sooner than december 2021.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving the vehicle, she became aware of a fuel odor inside the vehicle.
Leaking clear liquid that, stains driveway. See when car is moved.first noticed 8/18.had checked by dealer.no leak was found.
When you accelerate, for example to pass another vehicle, the vehicle will completely shut off, all lights illuminating on the panel the vehicle. The vehicle must be placed in park and restarted. Sometimes it starts right away, sometimes it takes a few minutes.
*ln
My 2015 kia optima with 46,000 miles started smoking and running roughly; i brought it to the dealership where the service manager then gunned the engine very hard until the engine seized up. Later they told me the engine needed replacement for 7k and they would not cover it because i did not get oil changes with them. I told them i change my own oil or get it done at a local place in town because i don't feel like waiting for 3-4 hours for oil changes at the kia in glendale ca where btw the service is terrible. This engine should be recalled like the others; it is not a production defect it is an engineering defect and the sooner kia recognizes that the less liability they will be responsible for. This company is a real disappointment and i hope they will move to a voluntary recall and not put all their customers through hell waiting for the government to force them. I speak nothing but negatively about these cars so other people won't be in the position i am in.
Fuel level indicatoron dashboard shows wrong a gas level constantly , fuel pump issue which sends wrong info to the dashboard
While i was driving the lights on my dashboard came on and the car began to lose power/speed and then the car stopped and i was unable to restart the engine and some minor smoke and weird smell
Engine light just started flashing and no acceleration whatsoever.takes forever just to get up to 30 mph.called kia and was told they don't know if there's a recall or not on that year. Not helpful at all.i'm afraid for my daughter to even drive it now and it's her only form of transportation to work.
The car sped is faster than what the speedometer day. The car jerks when you are sitting idle. The oil light keep coming on when the oil stick show that's its oil in there. Car don't pick up speed fast enough check engine light came on.
The following happens anytime while driving the electronic control unit and software, sensors, actuators, warning lights, fault codes, and performance related concerns of the electronic stability control system. My passenger window won't go up once you put it down without a fight. I been to the dealer 4 times and it's not fixed.
The mechanic said the engine is fried because the oil pump was not being pumped into the motor therefore it locked up he said i believe there is a recall on this vehicle for the same reason i checked the recall and there is nothing in the system that a 2015 kia optima is up for recall.i believe kia needs to refund this vehicle that has only 88,000 miles in the engine needs to be replaced kia needs to call me
Takata recall:the tire low light on he dash is always on no matter what i do. I have always had my tires changed from the dealer never from a third party. This is inconvenient for me because this is the identification for a low tire. So anytime i suspect a low tire i have to stop my vehicle where ever i may be get out and walk around the vehicle to manually test the pressure in my vehicles tires..
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while in park with the vehicle turned off, the vehicle rolled away into a lake. After retrieving the vehicle from the lake, the contact noticed that the gear shifter was no longershifted completely into the park position. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,680.

My brakes and traction lights comes on randomly. It started happening a year ago. It has happened about 5 times since last year. It happens sometimes while i'm driving, it just comes on and sometimes when i get in and start the car they come on.
Engine seized while drivingand wouldnt start.i bought a new battery and tried to start it and it almost caught on fire.i had it towed to a kia dealer and they replaced the engineand the turbo system which had a recall on it in 2016that was for the knock sensorsystem on 2018/
Recently my transmission case cracked as it passed over a manhole cover on a street being resurfaced. My dealers service department said this has happened a lot. I waited nine weeks for the part to come in. I lost $1,100.00on car rentals.car's transmission case is too low to the ground.

I was driving on interstate 40 in tennessee and my car just stopped running. I was in right lane and i pulled off to shoulder. A dot emergency repair truck stopped and tried to jump my car, but nothing happened, not even a noise or anything. Called aaa for a tow.
When i am driving my 2010 kia optima and go to slow down at 20 mph (only at 20 mph and only when slowing down) my car does a jerk or lurching motion, with a hard down shift to 1st gear.this happens no matter where im driving. From what ive been told theres a transmission update software which when updated. After being updated the dealer has to rset/lear the relearn procedure.both steps must be done to eliminate the lurching/jerking. I feel there should be a recall for this problem.
My 16 year old son saved his money (since 13 years old) and purchased back in october 2019 the car used from a dealer with 79546 miles on the car. On february 18, 2020 on his drive home from school he noticed a loud knocking noise. He was not sure where it was coming from, no warning lights came on whatsoever. He drove the car straight home. My husband checked the oil and the dip stick had no oil on it. The car at this time only had 82794, it's last oil change back when we purchased it in october at 79546 miles. How does a car burn through synthetic oil in a little over 3k miles and 5 months of driving. We had the car towed to an independent auto repair shop which stated the engine failed and needed to be replaced due to bearing failure. After doing a lot of research online, it appears there is a pending class action lawsuit with hyundai and kia but it appears the hearing for preliminary approval of the proposed settlement has not been released. I wish as a parent we would have done our due diligence of researching about the reliability and safety of kia vehicles because knowing what i know now, i would have never allowed this purchase. I feel completely screwed and now my poor 16 year old has no car because he doesn't have 6k to fix it. What a terrible first car purchasing experience for my son. Please get kia corporation to due the right thing and get these cars off the road. They need to go back to the drawing board in regards to the design of their engine.
P1236 knock sensor code.car went into "limp home mode" while driving down the freeway at 55 mph.
Sounds like pieces of metal was left in the engine during the time of manufacturing and was never taken out ,the vehicle was still running, i decided to take it to get checked , the device at kia of essington of philadelphia said it was a grinding sound on the bottom end of the engine
I noticed a burning smell and thought that my engine was burning.i looked down toward the floor and noticed smoke coming from under the driver's seat.although the seat warmer is not on, i also noticed the seat seems to be heating.i noticed while sitting at a light after having driven about a mile or so.
Both esc and auto hold lights occasionally go yellow at the same time. Usually goes back to normal after some period of time. This started maybe couple months ago. Brought to the dealer, but they couldn't detect any error codes.
Engine seized while drivingand wouldnt start.i bought a new battery and tried to start it and it almost caught on fire.i had it towed to a kia dealer and they replaced the engineand the turbo system which had a recall on it in 2016that was for the knock sensorsystem on 2018/
My brakes and traction lights comes on randomly. It started happening a year ago. It has happened about 5 times since last year. It happens sometimes while i'm driving, it just comes on and sometimes when i get in and start the car they come on.
If i push the proximity ignition button accidentlally the car will shut down, no brakes, not power steering. I am wondering if this should happen when i am travelling 70 mph on the interstate. The dealer did not give me any satisfactioon..."told me not to push the button" and "trade it in on a 2019." some makes will not shut down if going over 5 pmh unless the button is pushed twice. Others, you must hold the button. I could not find anything in the manual and their customer service was no help. There have been deaths related to this problem according to some websites. I can't test the car myself. Was hoping the dealer would or tell me the situation with the button and speed.can you help me?>.
Every time i turn my headlights on my break lights stay on and the traction light comes on.people think i am riding my brakes.
Windshieldwipers smoking after fuse changed not working causingburningsmell from wheel reported at 75000 miles at 115000 day out of warranty..if my airbag or car catch on fire due to this issue i am coming for kia
Both back brake lights went out at same time and we replaced lights and still does not work. Happened when i was driving home
When i reverse my car out of my parking spot it stops like my brakes locks. I have to press the gas a little for it to go. Also my brakes or wheel is making a grinding noise on the passenger side but my brakes looks good
Head lights and brake lights keep shorting out making it hard for you to drive at night or even during the day.the anti lock brake jams and will cause you to slide if you are not carefully in the rain and snow
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving at approximately 55 mph, the brakes failed. As a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle and began driving on the sidewalk. The front passenger side tires exploded and destroyed the rim. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,200. Updated 8/31/15 updated 10/26/2017
I've taken my car to get an oil change several times and told them how my brakes make a noise just when i back up and they keep saying my brakes alright but something isn't right to me...
My daughter was driving down main street when everything shut off, electrical, motor, steering wheel locked up . She coasted to the side of the road , a man pulled over to help her after 20 mins the car was as able to start again.3rd time this has happened.very scary .
At about 1500 miles on the car, i have 2200 now, i started to notice a grinding and a rough contact in the brake pedal.when researching this it appears kia has had aot of issues with the brakes on the stinger since introduction.will be taking to dealership soon but per the research, kia does not have fix other than replacing repeatedly.
I have a 2015 kia optima with 55k miles on it. Without warning driving to work i slowed down to enter the gate and heard my brakes grind metal on metal. I thought i would hear a squeal when my brake pads started wearing out way before i heard metal on metal. I immediately took my car to a mechanic and he told me that my squeal bars on each brake were bent back to where they did not come in contact with the brake pad.he stated that sometimes a stick or something could get up in the wheel and possibly bend one a little bit but seems unlikely that it would happen on both front brakes.it seems obvious that my car came from the factory that way but i have no proof. Even if i was hard on my brakes and the pads were worn i should have heard the squeal as a warning to replace the pads before i had to replace both of the original front pads and rotors on the same day.
Ever since i purchased my kia optima with only 14k miles on it pre-own from the dealer... The emergency brake (parking brake) has been loose and it has not been working correctly. When i park my vehicle on a downhill and apply parking brake with the neutral mode position just to see it's working, the vehicle slowly moves downhill even if the road is not that steep. It worries me that if i ever lose the breaks the emergency breaks won't stop the car. Fixing this problem on my own will cost me lots of money but i don't know if it came out of the factory like that. I've heard from other owners they have had the same problem.
The contact owned a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while stationary with the engine on, the check engine warning light illuminated. After pulling into a parking lot, the vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted. With the assistance of a nearby police officer, the contact placed the vehicle into neutral and backed into a parking spot. While waiting for her boyfriend to arrive at the scene, she noticed that dark grayish smoke was coming from the engine. The contact and her daughter immediately exited the vehicle as another police officer showed up at the scene. The officer attempted to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher but failed to do so. The fire department arrived at the scene and was able to extinguish the fire. The contact was uncertain if a fire or police report was filed. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard where it remained. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. Upon speaking with her insurance adjuster, the contact was informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 21v331000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the contact never received the notification letter about the recall. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
Sticky feeling in the steering at any speed. Takes a little more than normal force to move steering wheel in any direction.
Vehicle stalled on the highway and locked the steering capability.
Whenever traveling over speeds of 45 miles per hour the steering system starts sticking at the 12 o'clock position, and causes you to make over adjustments which makes you weave across the road.
Coming off an off ramp on greenbriar south in chesapeak virginia, i heard a cracking noise from under the car. There was nothing in the road nor was there any pot holes. The vehicle then started pulling to the right and when i started pulling the steering wheel to the left i continued to drift right. I then landed into a guard rail at approximately 15 to 20 miles per hour. There was a witness behind me that can attest to this incident. The tie rod end had broken clean in half as if it was cut with a pair of siccors which caused me to lose all steering capability then ultimately caused me to collide with the guard rail. Basically destroying my front end and the front right side of the vehicle and the drivers air bag was deployed. I was making a slight right hand curved turn on an off ramp. Off highway 64.
Steering wheel sticks at the 12 o'clock position. It takes some additional force to get over the 12 o'clock hump clockwise and counterclockwise. This occurs during all driving conditions
Driving down the road the steering has a catch in it and you need to use force to turn the steering wheel
I have noticed that as i am driving on the the interstate that my steering is sticking, this too me is very uncomfortable and this should be noted as a safety concern, this problem should be looked into before t turns deadly.
I noticed while driving at highway speeds that you have to fight to keep it on the road.it veers to the left and when corrected, then veers to the right, this continues as long as you are driving at highway speeds between 50 and 75 miles an hour.when you slow down the car feels loose and sways easily from left to right.
Vehicle veers both left and right.you have to constantly keep correcting the wheel.made appointment with dealer and they made some adjustments but was no better. I took it back and they said that's all they can do.
The car is unable to keep a straight course without constantly steering corrections. Eyes can't be taken off the road even to look at the rearview mirror. It will go from one side of the road to the other with any minor bump or even on a very flat surface. Wiggling of the steering is the only way to keep it on a straight line but eyes have to be on the road 100%. Extremely dangerous on any road but specially on a two-lane road. Accidents including head-on collision are sure to happen. Kia is not doing much/anything about it. Car is only 1500 miles now.
This is a know problem , but steering control is really bad. As i am going down the road,(worse as speed increases) the car wanders left to right with no middle ground. So it is not an alignment issue as i am all over and not just pulling to one side. I have to keep arms locked on steering wheel to try to keep going straight and still just isn't enough. Dealer says that's what kias do.this is a serious concern , as serious accidents will cone from this and the maker does nothing about it. Looking in rear or side view mirror for a second and i can be on the verge of the lane next to me. What worries me most is i see this has been an issue for many previous model years and no one has done a thing about it. I love the kia optima but had i known about this problem i would have never purchased..my fault for lack of research, however you would think the manufacturer would fix an issue that's been around for quite some time. This has to be fixed already.
Cannot control steering. Seems to want to hold in the 'center' position. When trying to correct the steering, left or right, i get a 'sticky' or 'dead spot' in the steering wheel. A few months after i bought this car, the dealer replaced thew steering column because it was 'undriveable', now a few years later, the problem is recurring. Many complaints about 'sticky' steering for kia optimas.
I am sending this complaint in regards to complaint #11317148. On march 09, 2020 i filed a complaint about a possible recall issue to my 2015 kia optima.i contacted kia motors @800-333-4542 case #[xxx] spoke with [xxx] about the issue on march 16, 2020 and [xxx] on march 17, 2020 and the response was that premier kia lufkin texas said i decline to have the power steering fluid changed which was they decline to replace the steering column under any warranty, so i decided to pay the $1298.00 on june 09, 2020 to have premier kia lufkin texas to replace the steering column for my safety and my family.i also contacted kiaparts.com about where to locate the power steering reservoir and received a email on may 27, 2020 from [xxx]at hansomotors parts department informing me that my 2015 kia optima have an electronic power steering. There is no pump or reservoir. But like i say for safety issues i paid the $1298.00 to replace the steering column.my question now is have there been any recalls for this issue that would warrant me a refund of $1298.00 the amount i paid premier kia on june 09, 2020? i would also like to receive updates on any and all recalls concerning my 2015 kia optima. Thanks.sincerely,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
At highway speed the car seems to wander both left and right and when attempting to correct the steering wheel will "stick" and requires abnormal amount of effort to get it to respond to driver input.once it responds it over corrects slightly which causes to car to weave (within it's lane).the car now requires constant driver input to keep the car within it's lane.we bought the car new in late 2016 and don't drive it a lot as it now has only 11,000 miles and this problem has gotten progressively worse since about 5,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving at any speed and attempting to make a turn, the steering wobbled and lost power without warning. The vehicle was taken to redding kia (888-778-5635, located at 418 e cypress ave, redding, ca 96002) and kept for diagnostic testing while the contact was provided a loaner vehicle. The technician diagnosed that the yoke in the steering box was fractured and needed to be replaced. The part was back ordered. The contact was later informed to return the loaner vehicle because her vehicle was safe to drive while waiting for the part. The failure recurred. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not safe to drive and promised to follow-up with the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
I have had my 2015 kia for almost 2 years and just started to notice my steering would stick while driving at higher speeds. I have to jerk on the steering wheel at high speeds and it feels very unsafe! i took my car in for an oil change, also had them look at the problem i was encountering. I was told there was a known issue for this year car just not my car. Also that i would have to wait and continue driving my vehicle as unsafe as it may seem until there was a recall. I was not very happy. I could be on the highway or any other location, anytime i go over 45 i notice this issue.
While driving at any speed but most dangerous when at freeway speeds the steering becomes jerky and not responsive and forces you to turn the steering wheel aggressively then it will start to work again causing the vehicle to swerve. At slower speeds this is not nearly as dangerous and the swerving is minimal but still present. When it happens at freeway speeds, the swerving is very significant and very dangerous. This has caused several near misses of potentially very dangerous accidents and will eventually cause a serious accident.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle was unable to steer. All the warning indicators illuminated. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,000.
The streering will pull to either side especially at 55mph or better. Made several call to the dealer in media and they don't seem to want to do anything about the problem. Took the car in for maintenance in bedford ohio and the claimed there is no problem,
The vehicle was purchased new in 2015, the steering box on this vehicle was replaced in november 2016 under warranty as the steering wheel would have a hesitation(felt like a brief sticking) regardless of driving conditions but more dangerous at highway speeds.now may 2018 i am having to have it replaced again as the steering is very loose and wanders for no reason, again, regardless of driving conditions but more unpredictable at highway speeds and requires a great deal of concentration to keep the vehicle in the lane.the vehicle is 36 months old with 78000 miles and is having the 3rd steering box installed.the technician has deemed my vehicle unsafe to drive and stated that the tech supportfrom kia acted as though they weren't surprised.i do not feel comfortable driving this car knowing that this mechanism is failing at an unsafe rate.kia knows of this problem and apparently feels fine with it though they deem the car unsafe to drive due to a part that they knowingly are installing in these vehicles.a brief search on the internet (god love the internet) will reveal that this is a problem that many people are having.please look into this, these vehicles are unpredictable on the road and by their own admission unsafe. My case number with kia for this problem is 12711641
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that the steering wheel swung from side to side. The vehicle was taken to the dealer eight times and the steering column was replaced each time. The remedy failed to correct the failure. The manufacturer stated that they would no longer attempt to correct the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 11,000.
Vehicle tends to steer itself and can at time of freeway speeds be hard to keep vehicle in a staring line. Vehicle steering wheel can get stiff and with and movements the vehicle tends to over correct itself. While going down a freeway or long straight away the vehicle tends to swerve back and forth when steering wheel is being held tight on one place.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 65 mph, the steering wheel locked up and the vehicle could not be steered. The dealer (beck & masten kia, 25503 tomball pkwy, tomball, tx 77377) was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 57,000.
My steering wheel is sticking and my husband took it to the dealership to see what the problem is and they have checked it and said it needs steering column. They gave us a printout saying followed tsb cha 090 preformedeffort measurement test. Measurement 4.6 nm supposed to be 3.3 nm needs steering column at a cost of $1400.00 with a 10% discount because it is not covered under warranty, which we then declined to pay that amount. When we purchased the car from perry-ellis kia we got a bumper to bumper unlimited warranty "at least that was our understanding" through fidelity warranty services, inc. So when lara who works in the warranty department for the dealership which is nowpremier kia gave me the warrantyper my she is now telling me the steering column is not covered. I have noticed that there was some kind of recall performed stating sa188 service action sa188 '15 qf steering feel improvement dealer code tx137 repair date july 10, 2015 dealer type rd. Which raises concern to me now that i am still having steering problem and they will not honor the warranty. I believe this problem should be fixed under this service campaign since the problem already existed this is not the first time i have complained about this problem with the steering wheel. Dealer stated they are not obligated to cover under any warranty. Your cooperation into this matter will be greatly appreciated. *ln consumer stated several complaints were made regarding front end shaking and new tires balance and rotation.
Power steering disengages while driving
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, it was difficult to keep the vehicle centered in the lane. The contact stated that the power steering feature was not operating as designed. The contact pulled over and waited for several minutes before restarting the vehicle to drive to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that th steering angle pressure had started to fail in the electric power steering unit. The mechanic recommended that the vehicle be taken to an authorized dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to napleton's mid rivers kia (4955 veterans memorial pkwy, st peters, mo 63376) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.
When driving our 2015 kia optima with 900 miles vehicle was in garage except for small trips around town but on a small vacation trip, i noticed the steering was not stable and it was hard to control the steering and keeping my vehicle straight at 60 mph or more. I noticed it would go left then i would correct it then it would go right. Very unstable to control had to keep both hands controlling the steering wheel. I hope some one looks into this kia problem because i am taking my vehicle to get it repaired hopefully! this issue is dangerous for people who don't pay attention on there vehicle when driving and could cause major accidents because i am experience driving instructor, i could tell it is a problem. I hope someone looks into this issue a.s.a.p.thanks [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Cannot control the car steering. Unsafe at high speeds. Wind is also a factor, moving the car from left to right and no control over the steering. Cannot change lanes without loosing control. Very unsafe and stressful to drive.
When driving on freeway "65 mph and above" the steering wheel sticks in the 12:00 positioncausing the car to swerve from the pressure applied to correct drift . It steers fine if you constantly move the steering wheel back and forth. It happens when your driving straight and making minor steering wheel adjustments. When it breaks loose it causes you to swerve which could end up causing a crash.
We purchased our 2015 kia optima new in corpus christi, tx.at about 11,000 miles our problem started.at highway speeds, the steering wheel gets real jerky and locks up.i have to jerk it to get it to release and then it goes the other direction. I have to keep both hands on the wheel to control it.this is a dangerous situation because it could easily cause a terrible head on accident.our dealer said they could not find a problem after driving it a couple miles.this is very unsafe, stressful, and makes my shoulders hurt severely. We are very unhappy and need this fixed.it is still under warranty and i know there are other cars with the same problem.safety issues should not have to wait until someone dies to get them fixed.
As the first owner of the car, i have experienced steering issues that could be described as feeling as if the steering does not properly center.i constantly have to make steering adjustments to the left and right to keep the car going straight down the road.the issue becomes more pronounced as the vehicle speed increases.this results in a feeling of lack of safety at highway speeds, especially in moderate - high traffic situations or on narrow roads.i informed the maintenance department at the dealership from which i purchased the car about this issue.a maintenance technician took the vehicle to a drive and agreed that the car had a problem with the steering.the dealership then contacted the kia consumer assistance center who eventually decided that the car was operating normally. Kia consumer assistance center then contacted me to inform me of this.i chose not to accept that this should be "normal" and escalated the issue. Kia motors america then contacted me directly to offer to have a district manager drive the car to observe the steering issue.
The steering has become difficult, jerky, sticks and requires much effort to control.this occurs at all speeds but of course is more prevalent at highway speeds.kia indicated that the motor driven power steering is defective and the entire steering column has to be replaced.the car has been in for similar issues multiple times.as the car is out of warranty kia is refusing to repair this at their expense.i consider this to be a major safety issue that has the potential for injury or death to me and my family.i would like kia to resolve this issue in good faith to us as a loyal customer. Kia claim # is 12961775.the car is currently at jim butler kia in chesterfield mo awaiting an escalation to kia consumer affairs.this issue has been going on for some time, most likely since the car was new, but has recently become more noticeable and more dangerous to drive.
There is a major issue with the steering of the car when it gets to 45mph and higher. The steering wheel locks at the 12:00 position and takes a good amount of force to jerk it out of position which results in the car jerking at least 2' to the side you have to jerk it every time.you can't drive it like a normal car and it's not safe on the highway.we have taken it into kia multiple times to have this issue resolved and they claim that there is nothing wrong and can't fix the problem.corporate even claims that there is no issue with the car and it is acting "normally".it is not the way we bought the car and i don't feel safe letting my wife drive her car with my 2 year old in it on the highway.
While driving long distances the steering wheel tends to "stick" and the wheel has to be jerked a little to make steering fluid once again. I had the wheels checked to make sure i didn't need an alignment and it is being checked now for the steering issue.
Steering seems to get tight as if the power is going out. Steering wheel will shift from left to right and it makes for an exhausting drive. I drive 160 miles to and from work daily and this has become a very dangerous and scary drive for me. I have read numerous complaints from other consumers with the same issue. It is disheartening that nothing is being done about this as of yet. I feelas if someone will have to lose their life before the manufacturer will take this seriously. Something is definitely wrong here, when you spend so much money on a vehicle and are unable to use it because of a manufacturer flaw. Please, someone hear what we are saying before something tragic happens.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle drifted without warning. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100.updated 01/21/15updated 9/7/2017
When driving the vehicle would pull to the right or pull to the left. Then when i drove on thehighway at faster speeds i had to keep both hands on the steering wheel to keep control of the car. I had to constantly fight with the steering to keep the car going straight. There were times when the car would just veer to the left and after pulling it back straight it would go left again. You never knew which direction the car would go. It is a constant battle with the steering.
The antenna shark cover blew off while driving. These screws look cheap and unsafeit flew off on highway..
Body paint is peeling on hood and rear bumper ; kia dealer said kia only warrantsthe paint job for only 3 years. I am contending kia knows this and is deceivingits customers from day 1; unacceptable !
The paint is seriously peeling "delaminating" in "snow white pearl" and that needs to be addressed!! it occurs driving or just washing the car. Searching online i see this is a common issue.
Front glass panel of sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving.

I have lost 2 of the trim panels above the doors on the exterior of the car. The brackets are not secure enough and the glue holding the brackets are no longer sticking. I cant drive long distances without the trim coming loose.
Was at light then proceeded once light turned green traveling on left lane on a 2 lane city road.used turning signal to move to right lane when another car that had turned at the traffic light on to the road i was traveling on.i did not see the car after turning to look due to the blind spot in rear of my car.at the time i hit the other cars front left fender/tire area causing minor damage to both cars.i was ticketed for improper lane change even though i turned my signal on & looked.i now have to go to traffic school to keep points off my license & pay out of pocket for repair damage to my car.there have been a few other close calls when attempting to change lanes due to the blind spot area in my car.
Paint is chipping offevery time car is washed and kia refuses to do anything about it
Peeling paint on hood and side pillars.seems like there is an issue with kia and swp white pearl paint.
The antenna fin on my vehicle flew off at freeway speeds. Kia states it is not covered by the extended warranty. I have done research and have found 2014, some of 2015, and 2016 kia optima have been recalled for this reason. I have contacted kia and they told me my vehicle was not part of the recall. The antenna fin on my vehicle has come off in the same manor as my of the vehicles reported and are a part of the recalls. I have attached a picture that shows the screws had been sheared off which you can see in the photo. This could have and may still cause a serious safety hazard to other drivers on the road.
The mechanic said the engine is fried because the oil pump was not being pumped into the motor therefore it locked up he said i believe there is a recall on this vehicle for the same reason i checked the recall and there is nothing in the system that a 2015 kia optima is up for recall.i believe kia needs to refund this vehicle that has only 88,000 miles in the engine needs to be replaced kia needs to call me
I was traveling east on a 4 lane road at 45 mph.
Extreme paint chipping
2015 kia optima, snow white pearl paint is peeling off hood, and rails around windshield.
The contact stated that the dealer provided routine maintenance for the vehicle and also indicated that an alignment was required. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle swayed left and right, which caused the suspension to be unstable in the front of the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure. The contact was unable to get the dealer to respond to the request to repair the vehicle for several weeks. The vehicle was not repaired and was parked at the contact's residence. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 58.
Windshieldwipers smoking after fuse changed not working causingburningsmell from wheel reported at 75000 miles at 115000 day out of warranty..if my airbag or car catch on fire due to this issue i am coming for kia
I have taken my car in to 3 different shops because i have a major bouncing in my front end. Everyone is saying noting is wrong but i can only go so fast. I have my tires and stuff rotated all them time hoping it helps. Sometimes it makes it worse. The dealer in st george says nothing is wrong. I drive the highway but can only do 65 mph. When the bouncing happens the steering wheel is bouncing too.i have had the bouncing for about 10 months. I bought the car used with 79,000 miles on it. The used car dealer told me that it was still under warranty but kia said since i was the second owner there was no warranty. I have a 3 year old boy that rides in here and i don't want to wreck with him in it.

Sunroof exploded for no apparent reason while driving down the highway.
When turning on the a/c system i get a really strong mildew/horrible smell from the vents. I believe it results in water accumulating in it, promoting the growth of the mold, and whenever you turn on the air conditioner, the first thing you do is get hit with a blast of moldy airalso, when a/c is off it has a very strong smell as well which i need to open the windows because it gets me dizzy and nauseous. I don't think this is safe and it's a health hazard.after researching on the internet, it seems like this is a common problems with kia cars due to design flaw. Many have complained to kia, but kia has not taken an approach to fix this problem.i've taken my car to the dealer and i was told it can be fixed for $150.00, but i was told it's not guarantee the problem will be fixed.i've made a complaint to kia motors america cooperate, but has advised this problem is not under warranty and is not very helpful.i would like to file a formal complaint.
I was driving on my driveway going less than 10mph and all the sudden i heard a noise like i was being shot at. I immediately stopped and got out to see what the problem was and noticed my sun roof had exploded outwards
My vehicle pearl white paint started peeling on both sides of my front window and now is peeling on my hood. I have filed 2 complaints with my dealership that took pictures and the first one was expired they said cause of covid. It's been several months now and still haven't heard about my 2nd request. It's peeling really bad and it's ridiculous that kia isn't trying to fix this problem. My hood is starting to get rust spots where the paint has peeled. I'm very upset and frustrated with this problem. I really need to get my car repainted.
Airbag light keep coming on,check engine light keep coming on
While driving during the day, on the highway, i heard a loud boom, sounded like a gunshot. Looked in the rearview mirror and saw black stuff flying off the back end of the car into the street. Then heard wind and felt wet, so opened the interior shade to my sunroof and there are a huge open hole in the middle of my sunroof.. There was no traffic on the highway, no other cars around me. It was raining, but a light mist type rain. The sound that i heard sounded like a explosion or gunshotand the roof's glass was missing and some came into the car when i opened the shade. The glass looks as if it blew out from inside.. It was mushroomed not caved in.
Driving the 15 kia optima when the vehicle start loss the power and engine die, try to start and engine start hard.towing to a mechanic shop, everything looks fine, no codes, start the engine and the noise came, engine is nocking.
Takata recall ,gear shift stuck in park
Their is a continuous sound coming out from the top of the dash board, when you start the engine. This sharp sound sometimes occurs time to time to course discomfort to anyone inside the car. This sharp sound occur some times and not always. But when occur it takes the full day and does not stop for two to three days. Their is also lot of complain about this sound on youtube with kia optima customer with the same sound coming from the top of the dash board, when the engine is start. Please investigate and review comments from other customers from google and youtube regarding the problem.
Intermitent ebgine light and goes on and off. Had in a local shop and they state its a calaytic converter. The vehicle does have slight tick only with excilaration on an uphill climb but not hardly noticeable. No loss of power or other issue. Car has approximately 76,700 miles.
I was driving down i25 around 530pm after work when all of a sudden my sliding sunroof glass exploded. There was no one around me at all thank god because the glass went everywhere and i didn't have my 10yr old son in the car as i usually do. Kia in motor city colorado springs is where we bought it. This was our first low milage expensive car we have ever bought. Kia told us its not there problem and we must have hit a rock or something but this was false. As i hit nothing.
Back up camera failed in vehicle and kia dealer wanted to charge $1000.00 to fix itthe car has less than 55,000 miles .
The following happens anytime while driving the electronic control unit and software, sensors, actuators, warning lights, fault codes, and performance related concerns of the electronic stability control system. My passenger window won't go up once you put it down without a fight. I been to the dealer 4 times and it's not fixed.
When i get in the car sometimes it cranks right up with no problem but on that same day or the next i can try and frank it but it won't frank it just clicks the dash board will light up and everything and after two or three attempts it it will cranks up and have no problems for a few hours then i check it and then it might frank right up and might just click a few times and then crank right up i think its in the ignition switch i don't understand this has been going on about 4 months
Driving down the road today, going no faster than 70 mph. Suddenly i heard something that sounded like gun shots. It was my sunroof, it had exploded!
On 11/29/17 at around 1:30pm while driving on the freeway on interstate 80 west bound i heard a loud bang that sounded like it came from above. The bang was so loud that it startled me. I then felt air rushing in from above my head. It was then that i knew the sound was the explosion of my sunroof. I then exited the freeway and took photos of my car. My sunroof was closed when it exploded, so fortunately the broken glass did not fall into the car. The glass broke directly above my head. When i was driving it was at speed limit (65mph) in the city of pinole, ca between exits appian way and richmond parkway. At the time of the sunroof explosion, i was not under an underpass, the freeway was not under construction, and i was not by trucks. This incident happened on a clear sky day and it the weather temperature was in the 60s. My car has about 40,000 miles and was leased from the kia oakland location. Today is 12/8/17 and it has now been over a week, and kia still has yet to assign someone to look at my car after saying they are going to investigate the claim. My car has still not fixed as of today.
My car has a foul smell in it i took it to my mechanic and they told me that it has bacteria growing under the dashboard and the engine and that's why it smell like mold when i turn on the a/c i just bought the car about 4 months ago from drivetime in columbus.
The shark fin antenna cover comes off during high speed and my impact another vehicle which may cause an accident.
The issue i am having, is my car completely shutting off while driving. This happened for the forth time since leasing the vehicle new in 2015. After the first two occurrences which took place a few months after purchase, i took into the dealership and they weren't able to find the problem. About two weeks ago while sitting at stop light it completely shut off. This morning while driving down the road it completely shut off. Luckily i was able to pull over safely put the car in park and restart the vehicle. It runs fine otherwise. I am always able to start the vehicle right back up. I believe there was a recall on the 2011 - 2014 optima engine for a similar issue. I am taking the car into the dealership this afternoon. I am definitely don't feel safe in the vehicle.
I own a 2015 kia optima.i have a panoramic sunroof that stretches he entire length of the car.i was driving down the highway during a very brutal winter where we had temperatures in the minus category a few times.while driving on the beltway doing approx. 55mph, there was a loud sound that sounded like a gun shit.when i was able to safely get somewhere so i could see what happened, i noticed that my sunroof had exploded and shattered.the cover wasnot open because it was winter, so luckily the shattered glass collected into on top of the cover, otherwise it would have blown throughout my car and whoever was in it at the time causing physical harm.i was told by the dealership that they had heard it happened before, and because of the temperature something made the glass expand.
My car engine light keep coming on then it will go off for awhile then back on
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that her brother was driving the vehicle and he smelled smoke. There was fire in the trunk on the passenger's side of the vehicle. The brother was able to pull over and retrieve a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. The contact contacted her insurance company and they directed her to take the vehicle to recommended independent mechanic and the repairs were completed. The cause of the fire not diagnosed. The contact then received a recall letter nhtsa campaign number: 20v519000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The dealer and the manufacturer had not been contacted yet. The failure mileage was 40,000.
Front low beams continue to be very dim.cannot see a few feet in front of the car at night. Have replaced bulbs but nothing seems to work. Is consistent with other complaints of the same, noted with nhtsa.
The speed limit on the freeway at 70 and the car cut but all lights wher still on it to me to sit for 5 minutes and then it started but a few days later my check eingine light came on and they say it a p0014 code but the car is knocking.
On october 15, 2018, i purchased from pep boys four goodyear all season 205/65r16 tires.on two separate occasions since then i have had a tire puncture and flatten immediately as a result of very little measurable side impact with a curb.after researching this matter online i have determined that others are having the same issue with this goodyear style tire. I have written to goodyear ceo richard kramer three times (see attached documents) and goodyear's response to date has been lacking.
In the past 2 months i have noticed my car shudders and shakes a lot when it is stopped at a stoplight or when parked with the engine idlingit used to be that i didn't even know the car was running in either of these positions.
It seems that my lights always go out!i've replaced the front light 3 times in one year. And the back brake lights as well.i am always getting pulled over because of my light going out!the trim seems to fall off as well on back doors above window.
I started driving to work drove a mile went to accelerate to get on the highway, all my dash lights came on and and i pulled over, my break was stiff so i figured it died, it started to smoke, at first the door wouldnā€™t open for me to get out, i had to manually unlock it which is weird because if my car is put into park the door automatically unlock normally, when i got out i saw the smoke getting thicker, so i backed up within minutes the car was in flames. I called 911 right away.there was really no warning at all!
2015 kia optima, snow white pearl paint is peeling off hood, and rails around windshield.
118k miles.
On monday, august 02, 2021, i was driving home from work and suddenly, when i stepped on the gas pedal, the car didnā€™t move but the rpms were reveving very high and all the lights, accessories continued to work. The car had to be pushed out of the street and into a parking lot, until it was towed the following morning to my local mechanic. Upon inspection, it was determined that the engine had seized. I was informed that this is awell-established problem of similar models, years of kia and hyundai vehicles that occurred as result of an issue during the manufacturing process and that kia was aware of the problem but refused to issue a recall. Due to kiaā€™s reluctance to reimburse owners for the repairs, there is a class-action lawsuit against kia. My vehicle was towed on august 5, 2021 to bob rohrmanā€™s kia dealership on golf rd, schaumburg il.as a result, i am without a vehicle that i am still making payments on until december 2021.
This complaint has nothing to do with my vehicle.it is about other people's vehicles that have the super-bright headlights.i get temporarily blinded by these late model vehicles with new technology headlights (hid or led) when they are coming toward me.i have long respected the oversight provided for vehicle safety in this country and have always trusted that proper considerations are made to ensure vehicles are safe.but i can't for the life of me understand how the super-bright headlights have made it past safety considerations, and that they have not been regulated out of existence.it shouldn't be that hard to define maximum limits for headlight intensity and effective lighting distance that would prevent the blinding of oncoming drivers.this is a major issue on american roads, and i'd be shocked if it hasn't already caused accidents, injuries, and death.please rectify this oversight immediately to ensure that the reputation of american car/road safety is restored and to prevent needless injuries and death.
Paint on hood roof trunk had spots in paint orange peel in paint on passenger side of car
The contact owned a 2015 kia optima. While attempting to drive the vehicle, it accelerated without warning. As a result, the contact crashed into a guide wire and a tree. The contact sustained bruises to the left arm and lower back that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an insurance collision center. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000. The vin was not available.
I was headed from ohio to michigan and all of a sudden it won't let me accelerate anymore and i get this burning smell and then all the dash lights start flashing and then the car just completely stops i pop the hood open on the side of the road and it's leaking oil which is not my fault cause i just got the oil changed and then the car just refuses to start now i can get the lights on and stuff but as for the engine turning over it's just not gonna happen and i'm surprised kia hasn't had a recall on anything at all for these engines cause there are so many complaints about them
Bought a brand-new 2015 kia optima in february 2016 - 2.5 years and 34,000 miles in, it died on me while going 70mph on i85n in atlanta in morning rush hour.no prior problems with the car and no warning signs whatsoever - i went to change lanes and accelerate around a slow-moving vehicle and all of a sudden my gas pedal no longer worked and all of the lights on my dash lit up - the engine was dead and i was coasting.could not get off to the right side of the road due to traffic, so had to put it as far to the left as i could, which ended up halfway in the hov lane - extremely dangerous.would not restart, had to get it towed to the dealership.luckily all of my services and oil changes had been done at the dealership i had bought the car from (rick case kia in gwinnett, ga).so they had no way to try to wiggle around the warranty.i am seeing this exact issue being described at the exact mileage range for dozens and dozens of 2015 kia optimas on carcomplaints.com.it appears that kia and the dealerships are getting around paying for what obviously is an engine defect by asking that the drivers prove they had the oil changed by producing receipts for every service.when/if they can't, kia is negating the warranty and asking the driver's to pay $7k-8k for a new engine.it's despicable.my dealership couldn't get around the warranty since i had done every recommended service and oil change at the dealership where i bought the car.
Recurring, intermittent lack of engine response to pressing the accelerator;particularly noticeable when attempting to turn left at a break in oncoming traffic.engine acts as if stalling, then recovers after a second or two delay.kia dealer service advises that this is a characteristic of the vehicle and not adjustment is possible to fix the problem.vehicle may be stationary or moving a less than 5 mph when this occurs.problem is intermittent and not apparently related to fuel or climatic conditions.results in driver uncertainty in any given turning situation whether there is sufficient time to make the turn;several near crash episodes have occurred where lack ofengine response to power demand caused the vehicle to slow rather then accelerate.condition occurs most frequently during city driving, but may also occur at highway turning situations where the vehicle has stopped before attempting a turn.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. While driving 3 mph, the vehicle accelerated rapidly on its own and crashed into a brick porch. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 20,000.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and the engine rpm's increased. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on several occasions but the failure was unable to be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
The car sped is faster than what the speedometer day. The car jerks when you are sitting idle. The oil light keep coming on when the oil stick show that's its oil in there. Car don't pick up speed fast enough check engine light came on.
Vehicle stalled on the highway and locked the steering capability.
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that while turning into a parking lot, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a wall of the parking lot. The contact was injured having whiplash; the right arm, chest area, and right shoulder were all bruised because of the seat belt. The contact mentioned that the steering wheel air bag deployed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was driven to the hospital, treated and released. A police report was not filed but a security officer from the property took a report. The insurance company was informed. The dealer and the manufacturer had not been contacted as of yet. The failure mileage was 57,000.
Windshieldwipers smoking after fuse changed not working causingburningsmell from wheel reported at 75000 miles at 115000 day out of warranty..if my airbag or car catch on fire due to this issue i am coming for kia
The contact owns a 2015 kia optima. The contact stated that the window was jammed in the down position. The failure occurred without warning. Prestige auto sales (n8890 wi-57, brillion, wi) diagnosed that the window regulator failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,620.
I have owned my kia optima for several years and i've had issues with the windshield wipers not going fast enough.i work from home so i do not travel that often but just recently went on a trip & was on the interstate when it started raining very hard.i could not see the car in front of me at all, not even their tail lights.i understand visibility is always worse when it rains but all the other cars were still going at a steady pace & passing me.i had to pull over on the side of the interstate until the rain slowed down to just a sprinkle before i could see well enough to drive.this caused me a great amount of anxiety because i didn't know if i was going to run into someone or if i was even in the right lane.i have several friends that also have the kia optima 2015 & 2016 models and they have said the same thing.the speed on the windshield wipers is extremely slow compared to other cars we tested this on & i feel this is a major safety concern.i pulled up google reviews on this issue & there are a lot of people complaining about the speed not being fast enough.
I was driving approx 5-8mph with 2 kids, pulling into library parking lot. Next thing i know i hear a loud thump and feel my tire gone flat. After pulling into the first parking spot i get out and smell rubber. My front passenger tire had popped. I looked in the driveway area where i pulled in and didn't see any nails or road hazards that may have caused this pop. This tire is practically new. I purchased based solely on this tire's advertisement of approx 60,000 mile life (or 6 years). This tire has only gone a total of just under 27,000 miles in 1.5 years. The other tire (same brand, same day purchased) seems fine. There is still a lot of tread left. The pop came from the side wall. The conditions were dry and sunny.
Edwards kia in council bluffs currently have had my car for 2 weeks and tell me that it could be an additional 6 weeks before i get it retired to me
Was at light then proceeded once light turned green traveling on left lane on a 2 lane city road.used turning signal to move to right lane when another car that had turned at the traffic light on to the road i was traveling on.i did not see the car after turning to look due to the blind spot in rear of my car.at the time i hit the other cars front left fender/tire area causing minor damage to both cars.i was ticketed for improper lane change even though i turned my signal on & looked.i now have to go to traffic school to keep points off my license & pay out of pocket for repair damage to my car.there have been a few other close calls when attempting to change lanes due to the blind spot area in my car.
