The 2010 kia was traveling on a rural state highway with at a speed that has not been determined yet. When coming over a hill the car leaves the right side of road way, the driver over corrects spinning the car, it travels 180-200'feet backwards, leaves the road way snd side impact a tree. My 14'year old was wearinga safety device at the time she was on the right passenger side which is where the impact occurred she was found . She was pronouned at the scene . She was found still in the safety device her bottom half was somewhatin the passenger compartment under the dash and her top half still buckled in was found over into the driver seat/floorboard. It is my understanding that there was a recall concerning the seatbelts on this particular vin number the crash is still under investigation however i've been unable to obtain any information on whether her seatbelt actually locked as it should have as i stated she was still buckled in when i found her they cut the seatbelt off of her but i think that's just a standard practice i will be receiving crash reports however those are not finished yet.
The manufacturer has failed to remedy a safety recall (nhtsa recall number 18v-363 and manufacturer recall number: sc165) in a timely manner. No interim letter was sent after the safety recall was mailed on july 27, 2018. The recall is related to a defect in the airbag control unit in certain frontal crashes.
The airbag warning light has come on; therefore, it has me concerned if i was involved in a collision.
I was on the interstate passing an 18 wheeler.my rear passenger side tire blew.the tire caused me to make a sharp right hand turn which threw me under the 18 wheeler.the truck went over the passenger side.i was then thrown into oncoming traffic then into the median.the vehicle is totaled - the air bags did not deploy.
While coasting into a parking spot my car lurched forward at a high rate of speed into a retaining wall.kia is denying any responsibility.i am currently awaiting word from my body shop as to if the car will be totaled or not.if it is fixable i am very frightened to continue driving it. I am seeing numerous complaints about this issue and nothing is being done about it.

This morning while driving, the airbag light illuminated for no apparent reason. The airbags have never been deployed. I was in a residential area with decent roads. I am concerned that the airbags will malfunction and deploy while i am driving and possibly cause an accident. Please investigate. I should not have to spend money on this repair as there is no reason this should have occurred but it is a safety issue. Again, the symbol remains lit. 6/8/16. Site won't accept date.
Was pulling out of a parking lot, when i crashed into a car that was going about 50. My front drivers side headlight was smashed in, radiator was pushed into the engine block, the frame was bent, tore off my bummer, folded my hood and broke my windshield..the airbags never deployed..
Kia airbag recallgood day,my vehicle (2010 kia, forte) which was totaled in rear-ended car accident (while waiting at stop-light on a city street) from a distracted driver that took place on 11/1/2011. My neck was severely injured, which required surgery in march, 2012. In fact, i obtained social security disability (ssdi) in 2013 based on that neck injury. By the way, after receiving retro ssdi, i purchased a 2012 kia forte and presently waiting for my recall-notification for repair/fix. I'm writing in regards to the recent kia airbag recall. The airbag in my 2010 kia forte did not depoly in the 2011 car accident. Please view submitted photos images.the past photos submitted showed the driver's wheel airbag did not deploy, as i hit the car in front of me after being rear-ended.in my opinion, kia corporation should be held responsible for airbag failure in my past car accident case. As previously stated, i receive ssdi due to my injury from that car accident. Please advise.

2010 kia forte rear ended a 2012 toyota venza while traveling at approximately 40 mph on wet asphalt pavement. Upon collision, the air bag failed to deploy and seal belt restraint failed to hold back driver of the kia.drivers forehead hit and bent steering wheel and caused major front end damage to the kia and considerably less damage to the toyota venza. Kia was not drivable, so it was taken to a salvage yard of a flat bed truck. Driver of kia was taken to hospital for x-rays and evaluation. Driver of kia suffer neck\back pain, bruised forehead and head ache and was prescribed pain pills & anti inflammatory medication. My greatest concern is that i own two kia's, one for each of my collage age kids and fear that the same outcome may occur again with dire consequences. Failure of the air bag deployment and seat belt restraint must be addressed and corrected by kia before more injuries occur... Updated 02/19/15 updated 3/30/2016updated 9/20/2017

Just a few days after purchasing this vehicle new from the back in aug 2009, the drivers air bag light came on while driving. There was no accident involved. I returned it to the dealer and was told the problem was fixed.since that first visit, i continued to return to the dealership with the same problem at least 5 times within the year. I was told parts were replaced, but the problem kept returning.when i sent a letter to the headquarters, i was contacted and told i would just have to keep returning the car to the dealer for testing and repairs, but i wasn't guaranteed a loaner during the repair. I figured at some point they would just start charging me for every visit, without completely fixing the problem. Up to that point it wasn't costing me for the diagnosis, but it was costing me in time away from work, and rental fees. Since i lived in texas at the time the safety inspection did not include the air bag light. However, i just moved to virginia and theirs does, so now i have a car i can't register, hence can't drive. I made an appt with a local dealer to see if they can resolve this (pending).however, i don't know if i will be charged for the repairs, or if they will be able to fix this since others have failed in the past. I wasn't aware of this site or i would have filed this complaint way back then. But from reading other complaints, i see now i'm not the only one having this problem. With the recent recall of malfunctioning/defective airbags by thousands of manufacturers, i'm surprised this model is not on the list. I think a review is necessary.
I have a 2010 kia forte ex.i am the only owner as i purchased this vehicle brand new.on 5/29/2015 i was driving approximately 20 mph and the airbag light came on.i was not involved in any crash. There is no reason for the light to be on. I contacted my local kia service department and was told the following: "you need to bring it in and we will hook it up to our computer and see what code it displays to see what the problem is.". Then he ask the mileage.i told him and he stated it would cost me "$110.00 for the diagnosis.". I ask what was there a recall on the airbags or the airbag indicator light and he stated #not on the year your car was made.". I am not going to pay them over $100.00 for this.this is supposed to be a safety features on my car.i believe should be free for them to test a safety feature of such importance.not to mention it would be good customer service.but they do not think so.i told him i have heard of several kia's that have had recalls for airbag issues and he said yes but not the 2010's.i believe this should be investigated .i just believe it is another way to punish the working class of society.needless to say i will not be paying them to diagnose this issue.this should be a courtesy.yours truly extremely disappointed customer in texas[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My 2010 kia forte has 62,751 miles on it and the air bag light remains on constantly when i am driving. I was parked in my carport and started the car to go to the post office to pick up my mail.the air bag light came on as usual but this time it stayed on (solid) and remains that way.i called the dealership and was told there was a recall for air bags for 2010 kia fortes but mine was not included.i am a senior citizen living alone with limited funds and have no choice, i have to drive this car and am constantly in fear of losing my life or being severely injured in the event of a crash.that alone is a major distraction while driving.this is a safety issue and i don't understand if other 2010 kia forte's were included, why mine was not.i believe my car should be included in the recall so the repair can be made by the dealership without a charge to me, which will allow me to quit living in fear and be able to drive safely.
My local kia store diagnosed my car with having a broken clock spring in my drivers side front air bag and i would like a recall on it due to the fact if i was in a wreck it would kill because it would not deploy to keep me safe.
Was in about 40mph front end collison with another vehicle on a city street in 03/2015 airbags failed to deploy and seat belt was worn. Hit my head on steerwheel so hard was knocked out and glasses where hit off my face into the backseat due to airbag failure to deploying. Had a concussion, black eye, whiplash, bruses, and sprains. Ambulance on scene, went to hospital for injuries. Car was a total loss and insurance company took car. About 55,000 miles. Police report, insurance claim, emergency room, and more documentation available up on request.
I was sitting at a stop sign waiting to make a left hand turn when an suv heading north made a left hand turn onto the street i was on in front of another suv, the suv making the left turn was broadsided by the other suv and then thrown into the front of my car, my car was then thrown into the suv behind me. None of the airbags in my car deployed at the time of the accident. I injured my left shoulder, my car was considered a total loss because the front rails where not repairable and i have learned that i tore the rotator cuff in my left shoulder and required surgery to fix it. I don't understand how a hit this hard that would cause this type of damage to my vehicle would not cause the airbags to deploy....updated 03-11-15 ....updated 12/30/15 updated 9/26/2017
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte ex. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, she attempted to avoid crashing into an animal and crashed into a tree. The contact sustained a head trauma and injuries to the knee. A police report was filed of the incident. The seat belt retractor failed to secure and the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis but had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000. The vin was not available.
My airbag has been on for ovr a yr. Took it to a dealer to get repaired. The light was off for 4 days and cane back on and stays on. Back again. And still had to pay another diag. Fee. But they said it was fixed. Now my car sounds really loud...knocking thats annoying. Everytime i start my car and drive it makes that noise. Just found out. Its an airbag module that wasnt covered in the recall. Why cldnt they find that at 1st. Smh. Very disappointed in kia. Going to a different mfg...like toyota
This is the 2nd head on collision i've had with the kia forte and on both incidents my airbags did not deploy. This concerns me. Also the car jumps into shift and the brake lights don't always work.
Vehicle has intermittent air bag indicator light.it has come on repeatedly over the past year. No codes have ever been found. Now that the vehicle is out of warranty the airbag light is on solid and will not go off. Kia needs to be investigated, there has been countless models of kia vehicles that have had airbag problems. Most are loose connections that vibrate loose. This is unacceptable for a safety feature. Kia dealers are charging excessive fees to clear codes and wiggle wires. $110 diagnostic fees. Only to have the lights pop up again.there should be a mandatory 5 year unlimited miles warranty on safety features on vehicles.i am now driving my car without airbags and refuse to pay kia to fix them temporarily. Something needs to be done. Do some research you will see how many people have had loose connections on air bag sensors in the past 5 years.

Was rear ended by another car traveling 60 mph, passenger side seatbelt did not lock and air bags did not deploy. Driver hit head on drivers side window and passenger suffered whiplash, concussion and back pain from impact and seatbelt not locking to hold them in place.car was totaled by insurance company.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. While driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to huffines kia mckinney (1201 n central expy, mckinney, tx 75070, (469) 525-4400) where it was diagnosed that the air bag control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated he purchased his vehicle with the air bag lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the issue was a cosmetic failure to repair without any problems. The dealer then informed the contact that the parts needed for repairs were on back order. The vehicle was left at the dealer and had been there for three weeks.the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the parts needed were arriving from korea and would take some time. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 18,000.
My wife was involved in a single vehicle accident in our 2010 kia forte koup, she was traveling 50 mph and attempted to avoid a dog in the roadway when she over corrected and went off the road and hit a ditch, the vehicle was deemed "totaled", during this accident the air bags failed to deploy and the seatbelt failed to restrain her, my wife hit the steering wheel with her forehead, nose, and upper chest.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the clockspring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to kia store rainbow city gadsden (950 w grand ave, rainbow city, al 35906, (256) 442-3232) where it was diagnosed that the clockspring fractured and needed to be replaced. The contact was provided an estimated cost of $400. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000. *dt
The car while driving, through rain or recently rained on roads going through large unavoidable puddles, causes water to splash up on the serpentine drive belt causing it to slip, 15-20mph when it seems to happen.this causes an electrical issue where the battery light comes on and the power steering goes out making the car difficult to steer and could be quite dangerous at higher speeds should it happen.i have never had this issue with another car. A removable plate should be fixed to the bottom side under the engine compartment to prevent this.
I am writing this letter to provide you notice of unresolved defects in my 2010 kia forte ex, kia case no. K3395476.please see attached file titled, "harvey nhsta summary of events" for complete nature of the complaint as i ran out of characters.
Hydraulic:antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip:control unit/module is failing, causing traction control and abs to turn off.dealership diagnosis is that moisture probably got in it causing the issue and the unit needs to be replaced.kia has recalls in place for this same unit on their 2006-2010 sedona and 2007-2009 sorento vehicles (recall number 20v088000, recall date 02/14/2020), but not for the 2010 kia forte.sounds like the same issue.luckily we are getting it replaced before an accident occurred, but others may not be as fortunate.new replacement part is currently not available, so having to replace it with a used one that could possibly develop the same issue.
My brake lights don't work.engine light keeps coming on. Airbag controlunit doesn't work/asic is damaged. Transmission cooler hose keeps leaking fluid the vehicle stopped on the freeway causing a crash.
Notice in the last couple of weeks my 2010 kia forte ex , door locks open by itself either while in motion on not in motion. It seems to happen when the car is hot from driving a few miles alsothe ignition switch is hot to touch i mean really hot!!! and this lock and unlock problem went on for about 25 to 30miles
2010 kia forte ex has electric problem while driving headlight shut off and electrical system tries to shut off. Put almost $1000 into this at the garage and still no result. This is a safety issue as i seen several other complaints about the headlights . Why wait till someone gets hurt or even worse. But then again we'll you know.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel would spew back out of the filler neck without warning. The contact also mentioned that there was an internal electrical malfunction which caused a loss of power from the battery. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the canister purge valve and the battery. However, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Horn did not work when i tried honking to the other driver. We got backed into because the horn would not work therefore was involved in an accident. I recently noticed that whenever the alarm system would not work, the horn would not work either. I tried having a mechanic look into but could not determine the cause.
The contact called on behalf of her daughter who owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated that the horn failed to operate intermittently. The vehicle was taken to joe myers kia (located at 16484 northwest fwy, houston, tx 77040, (713) 587-9940) to be diagnosed, but the contact was unaware of the results. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 81,400.
I was driving through a reduced speed zone of 35 mph and went to set my cruise control, about 3-5 seconds later i felt the car go dead. I lost power steering and all electrical systems. My indicator lights were on and flickering and i had no control over the vehicle other than waning off to the side of the road to get out of the way of traffic. Once my car came to a stop i proceeded to turn off the ignition. I tried starting it and the engine turned a couple of times but went dead so i turned it off. I tried one more time to start the ignition and was only barely able to get the engine to start and maintain. I went off on my way and later onmy way home i stopped to get food and when i got back in my car i tried starting it and it struggled to start. I have only had my car for 1.5 years and only in the past couple months experienced problems with my cruise control not activating and setting to my current speed.
Car was idling in parking lot when a burning smell was noticed. Thought it was something outside until noticed steam coming from top of hood. Shut car off and released hood. Got out of car to look and flames and black smoke were coming from the front of the car. Front tires blew out, windshield melted, front bumper and radiator gone. Headliner in car started burning. 911 was called to put out fire. Car is a total loss.
My car interior lights have been going out intermittently for over a year now, and my stereo bluetooth system is totally out as well. My signal lights intermittently go out.signaling is a big issue because if people don't know i am coming over it could cause an accident. Also, as a result of my hands free capabilities being gone i am forced to wait for important communications at times because my commute is long.
I was driving home from work and a man flagged me down at a red light to let me know that none of my brake lights were working. I have also noticed the cruise control as well as traction control buttons not working properly. There doesn't seem to be any issue with the fuses. If i can not find a fix to this problem it may result in myself getting rear ended.
Starting about a year ago, the headlights on my car (low beam) started to regularly burn out about every month or two.i finally brought it into the dealership to find out what was going on and was told that there was a ground problem in both the wiring harnesses for the headlights.(the same issue in both ?? )this has to be a safety defect as it has caused me to be driving at night when both of them burned out at the same time.with the same defect being in two different parts on the same car, i have a hard time believing this is not a general problem especially after talking to people in the dealership having similar problems..
The vehicle during warmer months after starting and being turned off must be jumped stated to start. The vehicle has been towed to the dealer 10 times and the vehicle has had the front electrical harness replaced. The problem ceased for 8 months and has now returned. The dealer now says the cable connecting the battery is failing causing it to overheat. I feel this is a electrical hazard which will one day result in a fire
Hello, i am currently having issues with my 2010 kia forte. The vehicle has been struggling to accelerate and soon eventually began to feel as if it were going to stall out all together every time i stepped on the gas. The check engine light came on and after diagnosing the code, it read p0336 (crankshaft position sensor a circuit range/performance). After some research i found that apparently there is a recall on these engines for what appears to be the same issue i am currently having. I looked up my vehicles vin on this website and was notified that there is not currently an open recall even though i had just read that hundreds of thousands of vehicles of the same make and engine type (theta 2) were being recalled for crankshaft issues. Would like to have my car checked out via recall measures. The safety of my family is in question due to these known issues.

All of the sudden my traction control is showing to be off and my brake lights are illuminating even when my car is off. It doesn't seem to be driving any differently or braking any differently. However, my 2 year old was able to start the car and shift it into reverse without having to use the brake pedal when he got in the car while i was trying to figure out how to turn the lights off because it is killing my battery. Luckily no one was injured. I see that there is recall 17v773000 on 2012 models which seems to explain my issue exactly. Why is my 2010 not included?
Upon parking my vehicle, i could not shift out of drive or neutral, resulting in an inability to put my car in park and remove my keys. As i was unable to do this, i could not leave my vehicle and feared it could roll from its parking spot. At this time, the rear brake lights were not coming on when i would press the brakes. Also, my esc control lights came on indicating this function was no longer working. When talking with the dealership, i learned there is an identical problem with other models that has resulted in a recall. However, my forte was not included in this recall. After many attempts to restart my vehicle over fifteen minutes, i was finally able to put the car in park. However, my esc light remained on after this.
When trying to accelerate my vehicle stalls and hesitates to increase speed. Before picking up speed, it jerks forward before gradually getting faster.

Esc light stays on, brake lights don't work, and cruise control works sporadically, all fuses are working, a quick google search reflects that the a faulty brake light switch might be the cause, which in fact it was.
Took my kia forte in to the auto repair shop because the engine started making a knocking noise. I have the oil changed regularly just as it is supposed to be done, and just had it changed less than 2 weeks ago. The shop said the engine has major engine failure and that there was nothing i can do about it. They said i will have to replace the engine. I called the kia dealership to find out about the recalls on kia motors and they said that my engine is not on the recall list but that there are many of the same motors that are failing and i would have to call kia consumer affairs to find out if maybe they will add my engine. I see nothing but where other kia owners are having the same issue with both the 2l & 2.4l engine and kia is being nasty about replacing them. I am very upset as my car is not part of their recall and know that it should be.
Randomly the car refused to accelerate, rpms would not go past 3k. It happened it different time points of a drive. There was never any check engine light. Mechanic drove the vehicle and ran a check on it and said with out a warning light there isnā€™t much i can do. Suggested replace crank shaft sensor. There was no change to the point the entire car died while driving up hill with no shoulder and a very large truck behind. My children would be dead right now if there had been another vehicle in the lane next to me i was able to barely to get the cat into. The car started back up after 30 mins. Was looked at again, informed it could have something to do with the engine tick, still no warning lights. The car stalls, jerks like a misfire and had refused to keep a stable speed while on the interstate
Our 2010 kia forte ex lost 90% of power repeatedly (rpms drop to idle, regardless of throttle position) at speeds from 0-35mph.this is not the first occurrence, but i think it is the same problem. This is very dangerous if you are making a left turn and you lose acceleration, you can be in the way of oncoming traffic by losing power. About 2 years ago (25,000 miles or so) the tps (throttle position sensor) went out. Kia could not diagnose it until it threw a code (lame).now we get the same issue, the vehicle is stalling, or "stumbling" when the speed should be constant or accelerating, but there is no engine code for the code reader to pickup yet, so the mechanics can't figure out what to do.apparently this is a problem on many models of kia/hyundai and the mechanics don't recognize it so they can't fix it, and you are stuck with a dangerous condition.i think there should be a recall of these faulty tps sensors.kia/hyundai should at least issue a safety tsb (technical service bulletin) to clue in their mechanics as to what the problem is. Here's a great article showing the problem: http://www.kia-forums.com/kia-carnival-sedona-2006/80251-tps-sensor-symptoms-tps-failure-cel.htmlthanks for your attention to this matter.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact restarted the vehicle and it functioned properly. The contact vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000. The vin was not available.
This engine has a widespread problem of ticking coming from the top part of the engine, and issues with oil including burning oil. I personally have experienced both despite many efforts to try to remedy the problem. Many other drivers of the same car have had these same issues which have led to scoring in the cylinders and complete engine failure. I myself am also very close to engine failure. Many people including myself believe that there is an underlying issue(s) causing these problems in the theta ii engines. Many people in canada have had their engine replaced for the same problems.
🚗 car caught on 🔥 fire while driving on i 285..
At a stop light or stop sign. It will quit for no reason. I have to put it in park or neutral to start and continue. Plus, driving along the transmission will kick out gear for a second and then go again.
Engine burned in front yard husband drove car to post office returned with car and engine was on fire, fire department had to put fire out. Husband made it home and parked the vehicle at front door husband thought car was steaming but car was on fire
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte.the contact stated that there was a load knocking in the engine.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the vehicle exhibited a rod knock and recommended having the engine replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
The engine started making knocking sounds. I'm afraid it might catch fire.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. While driving at low speeds, a noise was detected coming from the engine and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that one of the engine lifters was the cause of the abnormal tapping noise and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,000.
The contact owned a 2010 kia forte. While driving approximately 50 mph, smoke was present coming from the vehicle. After stopping the vehicle, it was discovered that flames and smoke were coming from under the front of the vehicle. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. A fire report was filed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 137,000.
The car has less than 88,000 miles on it.the car started making ticking noise.the repair shop said it is the engine and it needs replaced.they also said this was a very common issue on these engines.said it wasn't worth the cost to replace.i'm so angry cause the car still should have alot of life left in it.the car has been taken care of and this is a faulty because of kia!!
Just after purchasing the car used with 73,349 miles on the odometer on 7/31/2014 there was a slight knock in the engine, which sounds like the problem that led to recalls on later years models with 4 cylinder engines, so i think the problem started earlier.since there was no warranty (sold as is) on a used car the dealer told us repairs would cost more than just replacing the engine, so i had to pay $3,000 to replace the engine.i complained to both the dealer (fairfax kia) and the manufacturer with no resolution.
As i was exiting the highway i heard a rattling noise coming from under my hood. Then all of a sudden smoke start to come fro m under hood and out the back of the car. As that was happening i heard a loud bang then my engine shut off before i could pull over. After i was towed to a local dealership and after my car went through a diagnostic checki was told by the mechanic that my engine failed even though it was in great condition and we'll maintained.
My kia was jus fine driving down to my daughters house which is an hour n half where i live. Where all of a sudden engine light came on and a knocking sound came on slight noise. I kept an eye on the noise and vehicle. When we stopped i checked all the liquids and everything was fine. We had to take care of some things then on our way home it was sounding horrible and all of a sudden the check engine light was on, oil light and battery light. So i pulled over and called to have my car towed home. I did not want to risk anything worse, but honestly i think it is the worse for absolutely no reason for when thereis no leaks and all fluids are full.
I have a 2010 kia forte koup. It runs and drives alright besides it makes such a knock. I have heard it could be a rod knock or a spud bearing etc. Need to kno if i'm under manufacturer warrenty as i'm not the original owner. Car only has 88,000 miles on it too. Also the place i took it to see what was wrong said it would be 2 grand to fix it. How do you expect me to do that as i'm making payments on the car and only had it since april of this year.
The engine is failing. Just over 100,000 miles and has bearing failure with rod knock. I have read story after story about these engines failing. A 2010 needs to be recalled and repaired the same as 2011. Same engine ,same procedures. The car is useless now. Can't sell, trade,or drive.
Update to claim 11277949kia dealerclaims shifter bushing and the transmission switch. Strange that such a dangerous was treated with more concern. 5 more seconds of that malfunction and i would have wounded or killed a innocent pedestrian
Since ive bought my car its had a ticking/knocking noise coming from the engine. Really loud in the morning and it used to go away after driving now its consistently making noise. Ive been to numerous mechanics and all say that its normal for these engines. The noise keeps getting louder and i only have 118,200 miles on this car. The car is in excellent shape and i baby it. Besides some minor scratches it looks and runs brand new besides the [xxx] knocking sound.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My car was bought brand new from kia of clarksville. It has always had a tick i was told it was normal. At 88,000 miles my car locked up.just driving up a small hill it started knocking loud and lost power. Took it to kia they want 6000.00 to repair it with a junk yard motor. How do they sell faulty engines and get away with it. I took good care of my car and oil changes when due. I'm so upset that as a consumer we have no protection against this.
My engine had 85,000 miles on it and i regularly did oil changes and the engine blew randomly and costs over $5,000 to replace. The vehicle was operating fine when i parked it on my lunch and when i came out to leave work it would no longer start.
Took care of the car and my motor has recently gone out. Lost power going up hill and had a bad ticking noise i pulled off an exit and it sounded like something broke in the motor. Very disappointed.
I have kia forte which was running fine.until i change the starterthenthe oil was pumping to the engine it would knock loudly& if i wouldany longerit would blow the engine.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. While the vehicle was being driven, the contact heard an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to evergreen kia (located at 9205 s western ave, chicago, il 60643, (800) 671-8069) where it was diagnosed that there were signs of piston slap and cylinder wall damage. There were also metal shavings in the engine oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 51,173.
Sudden engine failure while driving
2010 kia forte; 113,000 miles. Check engine light came on. Code read '3rd engine bank sensors.' dealership diagnosed the problem as 'knocking rods coming apart inside the engine.' the dealership currently has two kia fortes in the shop with the same mileage and problem. Seems like a pattern.
After an oil change my engine began to knock. Oil change was not overdue by more than a hundred miles. Oil light came on. Took it to be changed the next day. As i was driving home, oil light began to flicker and by the time i got home (10 miles) it was steady. I took it back to the oil place. They informed me my oil was overly sludgy and were worried it might be an engine issue. They also found metal shavings in the pan. This is the exact same issue happening with the 2011 recalls. My mechanic told me my car is dangerous to drive and i need an engine replacement. Kia told me it would be almost 6000 out of pocket. This engine needs to be inspected. I have never had any other issue with this car.
I had a mild engine knocking noise for a several weeks, but just had an oil change a few days prior to the incident. I was driving down the road and the car seemed to be struggling to shift gears and go. I pulled over and heard terrible rod knocking and engine clanking noises. I turned the car off to call my father and ask if he thought i could make it home, and i agreed to attempt it. When i turned the car back on the rod knocking was worse than before, it made a very loud clicking noise when i accelerated, and the oil light came on. I got back on the road and the engine stalled within minutes, in the middle of a busy intersection.
Knocking in engine noticed white starting and driving.check engine light illuminated leaving oil change at 86k miles (12/27/2018).moments later, vehicle wouldn't go above 60mph entering highway.all lights illuminated on the dash, pulled over on ramp and turn vehicle off.vehicle wouldn't start and was towed to mechanic.mechanic got vehicle to start and heard knocking.identified coming from the engine and vehicle was turned off.mechanic advised vehicle to be towed to dealer due to recent engine recalls.vehicle was towed to the dealer and is pending diagnostic.i am not the original owner and the "10 year/100,000 mile" warranty does not apply to me.hopefully they are honest and honor the repair/replacement.
My brake lights don't work.engine light keeps coming on. Airbag controlunit doesn't work/asic is damaged. Transmission cooler hose keeps leaking fluid the vehicle stopped on the freeway causing a crash.
While driving car started to make knocking noises coming from engine. Last week thursday. ( may 31, 2018) mileage at 65k. Then suddenly engine off' on its own. Did not want to start. Starter and battery was fine based on towing company staff who helped with tow. Next day had a mechanic diagnose the problem engine, he indicated the engine has locked, oil level was good but was sludgy. Had an annual oil change mid feb 2018. I normally drive to and from work it takes about 15mins. With traffic 20mins. I stay in guam, island is quite small 18 miles wide and 31 miles long. Called dealer asked about recall for this particular problem to be told no recalls have been filed by kia based on my vehicles vin number. Searched the web found many complaints about this similar or same problem. A class action suit has been filed in quebec canada on this matter for kia forte 2010 engine problems/locking. Hopefully i am not the only person suffering from this problem. Please help.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated while driving 10 mph and approaching a stop sign, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine and battery warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was restarted without further failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage 111,407.
Motor has been making pecking sound for period of time. As going down the road today it died in the road. Finally got it to crank enough to get out of the road but it's making a louder knocking sound.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the engine stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle but the problem recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
My engine started making a loud clicking sound when i started the car and continued as i drove, then the check engine light came on.we took it to a mechanic that same day.i spoke with 3 mechanics, all said it's a common engine problem with kia'sand they said it was spun crank on the rod bearings and it's a common issue with kia's.i have had the car since 2010 and only have 50k miles on it.they refuse to honor their 100,000 miles 10 year warranty.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte ex. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, a ticking noise emerging from the engine compartment started. No warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the dealerholly kia, 13175 s dupont hwy, felton, de 19943, they determined that the vehicle needed a new engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
Car did not stop when placed in park , shifters gets stuck.when placing the car in reverse park , the car moved forward instead of reverse , not stoping ,had to push thebrake pedal and the emergency brake as the car was moving forward ( while on reverse) kept moving fwd at approximately 5 miles without pressing the fas pedal . Had to stop by using emergency brake. Turned off the car took it to the dealer. When placing the car in reverse the car kept moving dangerouslyforward
Ive been experiencing what other people on kia forums has labeled as hard shifting since november of 2017. When i start driving the car jerks really hard in between 1-2 rpm or when it's shifting. It's not the transmission fluid and it may be the heat temp sensor but i don't know.
Vehicle has been knocking since the day i took the vehicle over. Was told that kia always said its normal but its clear that it is a rod knock and that thada engines had this problem. Im afraid if the rod lets loose it could cause a fire.
When at stopped position i step on footfeed and rpms do not increase and then all of a sudden the vehicle surges forward.the rpms as shown on the gauge show that it is inthe idle state until the sudden surge.this mostly happens when trying to advance slowly.this happens infrequently but presents a safety concern when it happens in close facilityor when in traffic.the delay in vehicle movement may be as long as 10 seconds and thenit just jumps to current demand from the footfeed.this happens rarely but when it happensit really alarms the driver.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. While driving at approximately 35mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The steering wheel then locked and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle resumed normal operation. The dealer did a test drive but was unable to duplicate the failure. A diagnostic test was performed but did not produce any failure codes. There were no repairs. The failure and current mileage was 1,246.
2010 kia forte purchased brand new on 10/17/09.1st time taken in to dealership for check engine light being on (10/27/09) dealership stated that it was code po304--misfire #4 they stated that there was a glitch in the system and updated the computer. Diagnostic being cleared.2nd time taken in on 11/11/09 for the check engine light being on once again and the same code coming up po304. Also 8 different recalls on the car including gas cap, cruise control, transmission, computer system and others of the same nature. Also the car is accelerating by it self.they are going back and forth with kia corporate head quarters and they still do not know how to fix any of the problems. Kia agreed to put me in a rental car and that is what i am remaining to drive at the present time.
The ac condenser froze up therefore i could not start vehicle . It was snowing and freezing and i was stranded for 2 hours. The ac should not be going bad on a 2010 vehicle . I read many reports on this particular problem in the kia fortes all years. Well someone could get hurt when there vehicle stops running in the middle of a busy highway!!!this is a problem!!!mechanic told me i could of been driving fast and this could of happened!! someone is going to get hurt!!
The vehicle will sporadically jerk hard when changing gears. I have only ever experienced this same feeling when a transmission was going out. The vehicle was purchased brand new on 06/24/11 from a dealers lot, the vehicle had been used as a demo. The vehicle hard jerked when changing gears, four separate times between 06/25/11 and 07/05/11. Per this website: http://www.kia-forums.com/kia-forte-cerato-td-koup-discussion/55002-sx-2-4l-w-auto-trans-2.html i am not the only person with this problem.
While driving my kia forte the engine stalled. It happened two times in the last past two months. After bringing my car twice to the dealership they said they can not find anything wrong with the car because they do not find any code on the computer. They keep sending me home and telling me that they can not do anything.
Second incident of stalling while operating a 2010 kia forte ex w/ auto tran and the "fuel economy" package.in both instances i had come to a stop -- the first time (about 2 mos. Ago) was upon executing a hard stop, but today i had slowed gradually and then stopped for a red light.both times, the dashboard lights and radio remained on but the engine simply cut out.car was in "drive" and in both instances was traveling at approximately 35 mph prior to stopping.the steering did not lock.i was able to restart the car without difficulty after putting it in "park."i was unable to recreate the problem once i had a chance to safely try doing so.the first time it happened, there were only about 5,000 miles on the car.i called the dealership and they said that i could bring the car in but that if they couldn't recreate the problem, they couldn't diagnose/fix it.they did not seem to have any idea what could have caused the vehicle to stall.today's incident occurred after the dealership had closed but i will call them in the morning to report it.this time i intend to take the vehicle in for diagnostic testing as i have a long daily commute with a small child and am now concerned about the safety of the car.
Purchased a 2010 kia forte koupe in february 2011.after numerous complaints to the dealership and to kia motors, it has been determined that kia does not provide a driver's floormat that locks into the two carpet-mounted studs that are designed into the car.as a result, the driver's mat only locks into one stud, which allows the mat to pivot and swing left to right under the gas and brake pedals.
Front turn signal bulbs keep quit working, this appears to be a poor design on the bulb socket to headlamp housing connection, both sides have had this issue multiple times, if you remove the socket and reinstall it they start working again, there is no corrosion present.this should be investigated as it creates a serious danger to occupants as other vehicles are unaware of the vehicles intended direction.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated that the back up and brake lights remained illuminated after the vehicle was turned off. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact called jenkins kia of gainesville at 855-764-9404 (located at 3345 n main st, gainesville, fl 32609) and scheduled a diagnostic appointment. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 127,000.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact was driving 40 mph when the interior and exterior lights failed to illuminate intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 52,400.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact was pulled over by the police because the passenger side brake bulb failed, was not properly secured within the holster, and had fallen into the trunk. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the stop lamp switch had failed and needed to be replaced. The independent mechanic made the contact aware that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v114000 (service brakes, exterior lighting).the vehicle was repaired, but the brake light failed and the vehicle would not maneuver from the park position. A tow company was called, but the vehicle was not towed. The tow driver showed the contact a trick to get the vehicle to move out of the park position. The contact then notified universal kia hickory hollow (5406 target dr, antioch, tn, 37013) and universal kia rivergate (1536 gallatin pike n, madison, tn, 37115) of the failures. The dealers confirmed the recall and stated that the vehicle had already been serviced under the recall, but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Esc light stays on, brake lights don't work, and cruise control works sporadically, all fuses are working, a quick google search reflects that the a faulty brake light switch might be the cause, which in fact it was.
Odor of gasoline in passenger and engine compartment.
Turned vehicle on, put in reverse, as i pressed gas to back out of driveway and first started moving, the vehicle died. I was half in road and tried to restart car and it would not start, engine wont run. Had to push car to side of roadway for safety. Called roadside assistance through my insurance to tow car to my fathers garage. The car is not pumping fuel to the engine. It is not the fuel pump, but a faulty fuel pump assembly system and the whole system needs to be replaced. The wire harness in the fuel pump assembly is a bad connection causing it to overheat and damage the terminal.called kia of middletown ny where car was purchased and they will not release any information regarding any recalls or warranty information on my vehicle even with me providing all information on my vehicle unless i now tow the vehicle to middletown ny and its physically there. They do not seem to take the complaint seriously.
Fuel pump went out yesterday, had the fuel pump replaced 4 years ago, today they said the wire connector going to the fuel pump had melted to the fuel pump assembly
On two occasions now the kia forte has stalled with the original fuel sending unit located in the fuel tank. First occurrence was in september 11 2016 (~55,000 miles) where car was parked for ~30 minutes while shopping and would not start-investigation found the fuel pump connector within the fuel tank got hot enough to melt the plastic and disconnect the positive terminal (see images attached). This is a serious issue and kia dealerships in the chicagoland area would not do any warranty repair or replacement. After repairing the connection and re-socketing the terminals the pump was able to work for another year until the second incident. On august 29 2017 (~75,000 miles) the very same connector again within the assembly for the fuel sending unit failed while in motion on a residential road causing the engine to stall which in turn caused loss of power steering. Again, the connector for providing power to the fuel pump opened causing the engine to be starved of fuel. The unit is no longer repairable as the open circuit is occurring within the right-angle pass through the metal divider of the internal portion of the fuel tank. The entire unit required replacement even though all other elements on the assembly are working. Other owners have reported this exact issue however the manufacturer refuses to acknowledge the possibility of a recall. This is an obvious safety mechanism issue and could cause accidents due to abrupt loss of steering, ability to accelerate, and fire hazard.

At a stop light or stop sign. It will quit for no reason. I have to put it in park or neutral to start and continue. Plus, driving along the transmission will kick out gear for a second and then go again.
Three times i've noticed this.i park the kia in my drive at night and in the morning it has slipped 4 or 5 feet down the driveway.the drive is on a slope, but nothing extreme.the kia has an automatic transmission.
Esp warning indicator lights up intermittingly, auto transmmision shifting stuck in low speed
I just bought a kia forte 5 speed manual transmission.so far when the car had 425 miles on it, the gas pedal has acted like it was depressed--the engine revved up very high, but my foot was not on the pedal.my daughter was also driving and it also happened to her, it felt as if the gas pedal was stuck.i checked to see if there was anything covering the pedal---maybe the rug or something but there was nothing there.i took it back to the dealer and they found nothing wrong with the computer diagnostics they ran and sent me home.the car has about 800 miles on it now and i haven't experienced any other such problems, yet.i am an experienced manual transmission driver and i do not accept that this was driver error.the times this happened to me my right foot was completely off the gas pedal and my left foot was depressing the clutch fully.
Vehicle failed to start.had vehicle towed to garage who stated that it was a problem with timing chain and should be covered under warranty.had vehicle re-towed to dealership who stated that it was a bad timing chain and that it was not covered under warranty.this is not a belt, but a chain.the timing chain should be covered under the powertrain warranty. It's a necessary part for the powertrain to function properly. At the very least, the power train warranty should have covered this.ten days to repair - $1200 out of pocket because it is not an easy replacement.
A few months back my shifter (automatic shifter) became sluggish and appeared to take more force to pull back into drive. Within the last month the vehicle now slips out of drive and into neutral. I have to hold the shifter back into drive (with force needed to keep pulling it back and maintain the "d" for drive on the odometer). If i am driving and i take my hand off of the shifter, it slips into neutral. This is creating an unsafe situation that hopefully is not occurring on many of these vehicles. There have been times that i have made my way into an intersection and have had my vehicle slip into neutral. In one case i was lucky to not get hit by pulling out to get into traffic and having it slip into neutral.
My 2010 kia forte ex sedan, 5 speed automatic has a transmission problem that could definitely lead to injuries or death.this is a recurring problem that can happen any time, but mostly occurs during or after going up a significant hill, but may happen on level ground.there's 23,000 miles on my kia and it's under full warranty.i took this to the dealer, they could not find a problem or duplicate the problem; they suggested flushing the transmission for $150, so i did that.it did not help.it stopped for about a week, then it started seizing up again, today (3/10/2011) it seized twice on my wife.what it does is not actually stop the car, but "freeze" you at one speed, typically either 20mph or 45-50mph it takes up to 30 seconds to shift, and if you are pulling out in front of traffic and it seizes and won't let you go beyond 10-20mph it's very dangerous.the dealer says they won't have a replacement loaner until next week, so we'll wait.i'm in northern ut.it's happening in dry warm (50-60 degree) weather.we have not driven the car severely, this should definitely not happen.the kia owner's manual says to inspect the transmission fluid at 40,000 and only change then if needed, so the very expensive fluid should be good.this is some unique fluid you have to buy from the dealer, normal auto parts stores don't have it.other drivers are reporting this with the kia forte ex also ( http://www.kia-forums.com/kia-forte-cerato-td-koup-discussion/56086-new-transmission-needed-6900-miles.html).i am concerned about our safety while driving a car i can't predict when it will seize up and not shift.letting your foot off the gas does not help. It does have to be well warmed up to have this difficulty, at least 10 minutes of driving.thanks for your attention to this matter!
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte sedan. While driving approximately 45 mph, the transmission suddenly shifted. The contact stated the gear would switch from one gear to another and the tires would skid. The contact stated after five minutes ofdriving, he could smell rubber burning. Also, the speedodometer worked erratically. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 800.
The front passenger seat belt fastener button does not always click when then metal part of the seatbelt is inserted while parked or driving and sometimes the seatbelt comes out while driving and has to be reinstalled several times until it is properly fastened on all types of roads
Takata recallmy car has been at the dealership for over 90 days now and they will not tell me when there is going to be a fix for my car.i call kia customer support3 times now and they say that a member of there upper management will be calling me to discuss my options but no one evercalls i have told theml want my car replaced .can you please get them to do there jobbecause they are not helping me at all.thanks officer [xxx] doc.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Passenger side seat bottom has to be replaced for passenger side airbag to function properly. This was diagnosed by the dealer when airbag light came on and stayed illuminated. There has been no alteration of the seats or involvement in any situation that would cause damage, so it seems like a manufacturer defect. This requires a $1350 repair.
The headrest pushes my head so far forward it makes my neck hurt. I am between 5' 3" and 5' 4" and had to turn it around backwards. Otherwise, i literally have to hunch my shoulders to look straight ahead. It isn't safe.
After braking to stop at red light on a highway on a hill, kia forte 2010 kept moving uphill at low speed (5mph or less). Brakes did not respond. Car stopped after hitting bumper of another vehicle. Brakes worked normally after that, but car sometimes rocks after being put in park.
Esc light stays on, brake lights don't work, and cruise control works sporadically, all fuses are working, a quick google search reflects that the a faulty brake light switch might be the cause, which in fact it was.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the rear brakes seized. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. The contact stated that there was a brake system failure progressing with no warning. As the failure progressed, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and was unresponsive so the contact had to maneuver the brake pedal each time the failure happened. A dealer had not diagnosed the vehicle. An independent mechanic had not inspected and diagnosed the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available.
Pulling out drive way goingto the left felt like passenger wheel was locking up and does it quite a bit.also ntb in cleveland, tn said there was lots wrong with under neath , also it still feels like it's running after being cut off. And it has a rim that is cracked and when i got it i thought it needed tires cause i had to air tire every day or so but now it's more than a few times daily and i just learned how unsafe that is to be driving for my kids and i but for others as well

While driving from my kids pediatrician office. I noticed the traction control stayed off and would not turn on. That affected my brake lights. I noticed that same part is put as a recall for the sorento and soul but not for the forte. If it is the same recall the forte should be included. For the vehicle being only two years old it should be covered as a recall and due to the safety impact that it may cause rear end collision due to the driver not noticing that the tcs affects the brake lights.
My brake lights don't work.engine light keeps coming on. Airbag controlunit doesn't work/asic is damaged. Transmission cooler hose keeps leaking fluid the vehicle stopped on the freeway causing a crash.
I was pulling out of a parking spot vertically when i needed to give the car some gas rather than just lift foot off brake to get out of spot.the car delayed--would not accelerate. I tried again and it shot outrapidly uncontrollably out of the spot, side swiping the car next to me and going into a reverse figure eight swerving over parking lot and would not brake. The car ended up swerving into the back of a parked range rover as i threw my car into park since it would not stop. There was another complaint like mine on line about someone with the same model and about 38 k on car whose car acceleration did this moving going forward.i ended up with sustained injuries with body out of alignment, hip, and back pain. No one else was hurt because no one was in parking lot or cars.
I recently had brake problems on my 2010 kia forte.it was not due to brake wear or any of the normal brake problems.the problem was all my brakes seized up and the rear ones in particular heated up to the point where they were close to failing.the dealer said it may have not occurred, if the car had been driven more miles daily yet no further information could be provided on the brake issue.i live in an area that has many classic cars and my wife?s own aunt owned a car even though she could not drive it in her later years, so it would be available to those who would drive her to appointments and elsewhere.as long as a vehicle is being driven daily, which this was, i don?t believe this potentially dangerous problem should have occurred.kia motors also did not know why this happened and could provide no explanation.i am writing to you because of my concerns of possible brake failure and that the brake parts supplied on the kia apparently do not contain any anti-corrosive materials of any type and the intense heat caused my brake fluid to become contaminated.from service order: customer states when driving sometimes right and left wheel breaks get very hot; inspected front and rear brakes found pads are stuck in the anchors and needs slide service while performing service found rear pads got so hot they are separating and need to be replaced;performed front and rear caliper slide service and replaced rear pads all working as intended at this time.flush old fluid from system, check linkage and hoses, bleed air from system, road test; performed brake fluid flush as needed, flush contaminated fluid, installed fresh fluid and bled system as required, road tested ok
Left rear caliper stuck at 73,000 miles around 7/3/15, overheating and ruining the pad and rotor. Right rear caliper stuck at 111,500 miles around 9/20/18, overheating and ruining the pad and rotor. While one did not occur in this case, a stuck caliper is a fire risk and twice in three years seems too frequent for this to happen.
Front tires on 2010 kia forte koup was worn so severely on the inside edge the cords was showing. Took itback to dealership to have alignment checked. Dealer advised alignment was within specs. You can not see the tire wearing unless you get under the car and look at the inside edge. The rest of the tires still look in good condition.
While driving any speed steering would make a clicking noise and get stuck for several seconds when turning the wheel to the left or right.i felt very unsafe on the interstate as i would jerk the wheel to get the wheel to unstick.i put my hand under the steering column and got brown oil on my hand.i took the car to the nearest dealership as i was travelingout of town because i was scared to drive the car the dealership repairedthe problem and said it was the coupling in the steering box .they said it could be unsafe to drive as the steering could lock up if the motor should fail .
When the steering turns every time, it makes a clicking noise. After the clicking noise started happening, i often hear metal to metal contact noise from the steering wheel when i drive on bumpy roads. The problem is caused by the faulty steering coupling inside of the steering motor. Although the 2010 elantra which shares the same platform and the steering motor with 2010 kia forte was recalled due to same issue, 2010 kia forte was not recalled.

On sept 30, 2016 i noticed a popping noise in my steering wheel, after looking online for reasons it could be doing so, i decided to take into the dealership to have it checked out. Thinking it could be a coupling as stated in review that i have seen. Kia of auburn, called and said that i needed my steering column replaced.a steering column just doesn't go out.there hasn't been no major damage to the front end besides a small fender bender.cost is going to be over $800.like i said a steering column just doesn't go out.this should be checked into.
I bought the car brand new 7/30/2010 and the first incident happened on 8/12/10.the steering wheel locks up and i can't turn the key to start the car.took it back to dealer and was told to wiggle steering wheel back and forth and it will break free.it happened 2-3x a yr. Up to 2014.now it's happening quite often 6x from 6/01/14-6/13/14.on 6/15/14 it happened 2x and i was stranded both times and it took 50-60 min. For the steering wheel to unlock.i only have 3,200 miles on the car.
Steering wheel makes a clunking sound when turning left or right. Was told it could be coupler or bushing. Kia is aware of the problem, but no recall that i'm aware of.being told the car is not safe to drive $600-$1400 repair according to forums. It does this driving or sitting still.
The contact owns a 2010 kia forte. While pulling out of the driveway, the contact heard a clicking noise emerging from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering coupler needed replacement. The failure occurred every day for the past four months. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Driving at highway speed and the steering wheel will get very hard to steer. Stop. Shut off car. Restart and will reset. Then happens again. Took to dealer charged to reprogram computer. Clears up then happens all over again.
Melting dashboard. Updated 7/29/2015
New car, less than 3 hours old, has major factory paint defects. Factory rep says someone will "document" defects.dealer repair manager / general manager seem to believe dirty paint was used in spraying this vehicle.
One day, driving down the interstate in 2017. My husband rolled down the driver's side window. While going 60mph, the door opened. After that, the door would not open from the inside or outside..we took it upon ourselves to try to fix it, and were able to fix the mechanism that allows us to open from the inside, but it still will not open from the outside.
While coasting into a parking spot my car lurched forward at a high rate of speed into a retaining wall.kia is denying any responsibility.i am currently awaiting word from my body shop as to if the car will be totaled or not.if it is fixable i am very frightened to continue driving it. The contact owns a 2011 kia forte. The contact was driving 60 mph as the front hood flew open. The contact called the dealer regarding the hood and the dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for inspection. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer but the dealer did not inspect the failure.the contact believed the vehicle was unsafe to drive and stated that the dealer would not assist. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,800.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the v joint fractured in two locations and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000. The vin was unavailable.

I was driving home, the low air pressure indicator turned on, and i stopped at a gas station to put air in the tires.i noticed that one of the tps on the rear wheel was cracked.once i tried to remove the plastic valve stem cover, the valve stem broke releasing all air in the tire.i put the spare on, then contacted dealer.dealer states that i need to purchase new tps, as the "sensor will not break on its own."car has 35k on it, still has factory warranty, however, this item is not covered.
On january 19th, 2014, while the car was being driven on the expressway, the driver's side rear tire suddenly went flat.upon inspection, the hole where the valve stem should reside was empty.this is the second occurrence of this type.previously, on february 28th, 2013, while driving on a secondary road at 55 mph, the passenger side front tire failed in the same manner.at that time, a complaint was submitted with kia (confirmation id k2441671).no response or contact was ever given by kia.once the tires were disassembled, and the tpms parts examined, heavy corrosion and metal erosion was present.at some point, the securing nut lets go, and the stem ejects into the tire, rapidly releasing the air.if this is an issue of inferior metal being used with the kia valve stems, then i feel that a safety recall should be issued.thus far the failures have only caused the loss of time, inconvenience, driving on the dreaded space-saver tire, cost of replacement sensors and tires, and risk of changing tires at roadside, but sudden loss of control of vehicles could easily lead to serious injury or loss of life to the driver and others sharing the roadway.i am not aware how common this type of failure may be, but it is a potentially serious danger that could be eliminated or at least significantly minimized.over several hundreds of thousands of miles driven, i have never experienced a normal valve stem ejection, nor know of anyone who has.the tpms valve stems in question seem to be of some grade of aluminum or aluminum alloy.the kia sensor body part number is 52933-2m000.thank you.
I have had 3 tire pressure monitor stems crack and disappear into the tire causing a flat at 3 separate occasions. The first time was at 38,000 miles, the last 2 were at 76,000 and within a week of each other.i called kia but they stated i have to have kia examine them.the first time kia told me that this just happens and charged me $200.i went to mavis tire the 2nd time and they replaced it for $83.i called kia today after the 3rd time and they told me to go to the dealer.
The tpms sensor retaining nuts crack and cause the tire to suddenly loose all air pressure. This has happen on two different occasions while traveling on the highway. This destroyed the tire. Today while getting brakes serviced it was found i have a third retaining nut that is cracked.
Vehicle was slowly losing pressure in all four tires for about one week prior to incident. Failure of driver's front tire occurred while driving to service station approximately eight miles after inspection of pressure. Service inspection after the incident found that all four sensors were leaking. Tires had less then three thousand miles of wear at the time of the incident.
Kia case #[xxx] after informkia on wheel stem failure due to corrosion(kia case number[xxx]) kia decided not to issue nor elevate the problem on wheel stem supporting nut failure. On july 31, 2014 i was driving 65mph when rear passenger tpms sensor gave way causing tire to lose pressure quickly. The back end of the vehicle kicked sideways and then became hard to steer.rear tire was shredded and tire sensor in pieces. Replaced all four tires twice since buying the vehicle in 2011 due to tpms indicator light on. First time, on nov. 7, 2011 replaced all four tires. Tpms light continually came on and had to be reset by tire shop. Tires cupped so bad we had to replace all four again.second time, on oct. 7, 2013 replaced all four tires and two sensors from previous flat tires.in2012 and again in 2013,a tpms gave way causing the tire to lose air quickly. Both times i was told by the tire shop it was an original sensor that caused the tire to go flat. Once again the tpms light came on and was continually checked and reset by tire shop. This is the third time an original sensor has caused a flat tire on this vehicle and the third sensor to be replaced.once again, the tpms light is on and the tires are cupping.
Tire pressure monitoring stem broke off when tire was being repaired. Mechanic says other valve stems on the car are also fraying and could break. Car has less than 60,000k miles. Stem fragility poses an immediate and very dangerous threat to safety.
The tpms on three tires have corroded and caused loss of tire pressure. This has lead to having to replace all three sensors. When this sensor corrodes, you cannot add any air to the tire for a temp fix until it is repaired and you are forced to drive on the spare tire. This repair runs around $200 at the local kia dealer.
After incident at 70 mph and taking the car to the kia ann arbor michigan, the service manager refuses to write in the service report the observed cracked nut supporting the front passenger wheel stem.the complaint was issue under kia #[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The tire deflate rapidly when driving at 70mph on freeway. When in the tire shop technician reveled there was no puncture but the stem was missing. After removing the tire the stem was found inside the tire with visible corrosion signs.by inspecting the rest of the stem, was found that all three stem supporting nuts have traces of corrosion but one of them on the passenger front wheel the nut was cracked.we concluded as cause of the problem was the crack in the nut that secure the stem in position. The failure can be verified by the corrosion mars present of the failed wheel stem. The failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 31,000.
The tpms light came on. Within three miles i pulled into a service station to check my tire pressure and discovered that my driver's side rear wheel tire stem was cracked and leaking air. This is the second time a stem on this car has cracked. In both cases i had not hit any potholes or did anything to cause this damage. Kia forums report that this seems to be a problem with kia fortes and souls.

Pulling out drive way goingto the left felt like passenger wheel was locking up and does it quite a bit.also ntb in cleveland, tn said there was lots wrong with under neath , also it still feels like it's running after being cut off. And it has a rim that is cracked and when i got it i thought it needed tires cause i had to air tire every day or so but now it's more than a few times daily and i just learned how unsafe that is to be driving for my kids and i but for others as well
I had had problems with the hood latch in the past.on two occasions, i was unable to get the hood open.during the incident, i was driving and the hood flew open and smashed into windshield and roof.force caused the roof to cave in and hit me in the head. Extensive damage to hood, roof, part beside hood where hood meets windshield, windshield smashed.please note.the car was purchased in june 2010 in manchester nh and used in new hampshire.now reside in canada.the incident happened in canada.
Ive been experiencing what other people on kia forums has labeled as hard shifting since november of 2017. When i start driving the car jerks really hard in between 1-2 rpm or when it's shifting. It's not the transmission fluid and it may be the heat temp sensor but i don't know.
After i got my car in 2015, i noticed that sometimes my cruise control would stop working and wouldn't come back on until the car was turned off and back on. The issue has consistently gotten worse and happens more often. Recently, we've had instances where the cruise control stops working and even when pushing the gas pedal, the car will not accelerate. Sometimes even when we aren't using cruise control, this also happens. It has almost caused us to be in accidents. We've almost been t-bone numerous times because we lose acceleration while crossing an intersection.
I am writing this letter to provide you notice of unresolved defects in my 2010 kia forte ex, kia case no. K3395476.please see attached file titled, "harvey nhsta summary of events" for complete nature of the complaint as i ran out of characters.

After braking to stop at red light on a highway on a hill, kia forte 2010 kept moving uphill at low speed (5mph or less). Brakes did not respond. Car stopped after hitting bumper of another vehicle. Brakes worked normally after that, but car sometimes rocks after being put in park.
Update to claim 11277949kia dealerclaims shifter bushing and the transmission switch. Strange that such a dangerous was treated with more concern. 5 more seconds of that malfunction and i would have wounded or killed a innocent pedestrian
Esc light stays on, brake lights don't work, and cruise control works sporadically, all fuses are working, a quick google search reflects that the a faulty brake light switch might be the cause, which in fact it was.
The windshield failed without being hit by any objects or altered in any way.a small crack came from the edge of the windshield and spread compromising windshield strength. Kia refused to repair saying that the their warranty would not cover faults to the windshield past 24 months regardless of poor workmanship.

For the second time on this vehicle the metal stem for the tpsm has broken off, deflating the tire. This time while inflating the tire, the first while parked,. I went to the dealership for a recall on 03/01/2019, they changed tire valve stems and acu extension. When they finally finished working on my car. I left and was driving home so i took the 60 freeway and while i was on the freeway my car started shaking and i almost lost control and a car almost hit me because of that. I complained to the service manager about what had just happened to my car. The manager later comes to me and tells me the problem was due to cracked tires and that's why my tire went flat but i told the manager that doesn't make sense since my tires are in good condition and also if my tires were all cracked then why did only one tire lose air and not all of them? also the service advisor mentioned to me that same morning that the technician wasn't able to open the hood to my car and i found that very weird since a week prior to that i had opened the hood to my car with no problem and everything was fine. I went to the mechanic today and the mechanic told me the tire they gave me was a cheap brand tire and my tires were not cracked and that there was nothing wrong with my hood, when the mechanic opened the hood he found that the motor cover was completely cracked in half. I believe the technician somehow cracked it in half while checking my car and lied afterwards and made that statement about the hood not opening, i had to purchase a new motor cover. The manager was lying and covering for the mistakes his technician made. The mechanic made a notation on my receipt and agreed with me about the service department at the dealership was lying to cover for the mistakes the technician made. I was very dissatisfied with the lies they made up about my car to cover up their mistakes, the poor customer service given to me and the negligence they showed me especially since my safety was at jeopardy since i almost crashed after they worked on my car.
