This kia amante is a 2006.i have 132633 miles on it.last month, i got an "air bag" light on the dash.i took it in to the local kia dealership, they charged me $100 to tell me the the air bag is no longer operable.the part needed to repair is no longer available.if i get in an accident, the air bags will not work.as the car still looks and runs like new, i do not want to get rid of it.shouldn't a vehicle manufacturer have parts at least for 13 years?

I purchased a 2006 kia amanti approximately 18 months ago from the kia dealer in cherry hill, nj.shortly after driving the car on numerous occasions when i stepped on the gas the car did not move, then what seemed to be an hour it revved up to normal power. I brought it back at least 3 times and they thought i was crazy because they could not reproduce the events. Eventually i almost got hit on a major road.eventually they put a updated software change that seems to have fixed the problem. I am lucky i was not in a serious accident or killed. I think this problem needs to be fixed in other kia before someone is killed or hurt.tom

- the contact has a safety complaint about athe 2006 kia amante that he purchased inseptember2006, with 0 miles, and currently had 9200 miles. In n september2006 with an odometer reading of 2600 milesand while driving 55 mphon the highway, and making a gradual left hand turn, the contact felt that the steering vibrated.the esp light flashed during the failure, and then it changed to esp off and the vibration stopped.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, where it was diagnosed witha failure of the front right wheel sensor. The dealer did not have the part in stock and fixed the problem by replacing the sensor with one from another vehicle.a few days later, the contact experienced the same failure while coming to a turn.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a front wheel angle sensor failure and abs system failure, both sensors were replaced.the contact explained that three weeks later while traveling at 35 mph the steering wheel vibrated lightly, then the esp light flashed on then off.again as the vehicle was coming to a stop, the contact felt the vehicle shookvery hard as it tried to stop.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, where the ecu unit was replaced.near the end of january 2007 while making a left hand turn and applying the brakes the contact lost steering and brake control of the vehicle. The last problem occurred mid february 2007 while making a right hand turn, thesteeringbegan to shake causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle and almost crash into with another oncoming vehicle.this wasa brand new vehicle, andwas taken to the dealer 9 times.the current mileage was 9000.
When pulling away from a stop sign or traffic light, car does not respond to depression of gas pedal for 3 or 4seconds.then all of a sudden it catches up and tires squeal and the car goes from 5 mph to 30 mph like a dragster.this has happened approx. 18 times from sept. 09 to the present.
The contact owns a 2006 kia amanti.while driving 75 mph, the throttle body stuck, shut everything down and also caused the pedal to stick. The traction control and the electronic stability is not working. The fly by wire system is all electronic, there is no actual cable that goes from the gas pedal to the throttle body. The dealer duplicated the failure and stated that they were able to correct the problem with the throttle body sticking; however, the failure continued to occur. The failure almost caused a crash. The manufacturer informed the contact that if he filed a lemon law complaint, they would not provide any further assistance. The contact has several service records that include numerous diagnosis that have been performed on the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 18,000.
Check engine light came on.diagnosed as throttle position sensor.car ran sluggishly for a short while, then that stopped, light went off.today, light came on again.backing out of a parking stall in a mall, the engine accelerated without touching the gas pedal, causing the car to lurch uncontrollably backwards, about ten feet.fortunately, no pedestrian was behind the car, but if they had been, they would have been injured or worse.called kia, they say there is no recall on this sensor, and it is not under warranty.from searching the internet, it appears this problem is widespread.

Car just loses power then has an acceleration of power where it is out of control. This is a 2006 kia amanti and has the problem since we bought it 2 years ago.kia has not been able to fix it even though we have had it at the dealer's several time.what happens is you try to accelerate and there is no power, then the car has a power surge which takes the driver unaware.this is a very dangerous situation.it only occurs about once a month and the dealer says they can't duplicate the problem.they have changed the throttle sensor the last time and it didn't fix the problem.
Our 2006 kia amanti occasionally will, when starting from a stopped position, will initially hesitate as if its going to stall..., then lunge/accelerate quickly forward.i've mentioned it to the dealers, but because it doesn't happen often, i've never really pressed them on this.., but after reading the same complaint at this site, i wanted to document we also have experienced this.it probably occurs approx once every month, over the past couple years.it is potentially a dangerous condition, as the car could jump forward and hit pedestrians crossing in front of the car, or rear end cars near the front of thevehicle.
Attempted to change flat front driver side tire.in garage on flat service.used jack provided with vehicle.screw type jack.after removing flat tires, i had to raise jack to put on inflated tire.jack collapsed.damage to undercarriage.jack height insufficient to allow inflated tire to be installed.car was on level surface, transmission in park and parking brake applied.threads on screw jack stripped.extremely dangerous product. Needs to be recalled.thankfully i had the inflated tire against the hub which prevented the car from falling all the way to garage floor.this is a safety hazard.
Passenger right front marker light goes out -rear running lights go out- dash board light goes out, all involve anever- blowing 10 amp fuse that kia, after 4 years and three "experts" can't seem to solve and repair.
The contact owns a 2006 kia amanti.the contact has been experiencing issues with the headlights on her vehicle.the headlights randomly burn out.the passenger side headlight burned out and, after it was replaced, the driver's side headlight burned out as well.when the driver's side headlight was replaced, the passenger side headlight burned out again.the failure has been occurring for over five months and the headlights, running lights, and tail lights were all replaced within a week.there are no recalls for the vehicle and it is also out of warranty.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or mechanic.the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 50,000.

Car stalls several times a week now window want roll up.
Intermittent drive by wire throttle control. Causes surge up to 3,000 rpm engine by just touching throttle pedal. Or, it may not have any response at all.this is a weekly occurrence since owning and reporting to dealer. Dealer has no solution.
Sluggish acceleration, lost power, unable to move car off road which could have caused an accident. This has happened to my family on five different occasions. This problem has been reported by many people under the repair pal web site (see below)"another person reported the "accelerator position switch may fail and cause sluggish acceleration" problem on their kia amanti"to view their report, click here: http://repairpal.com/accelerator-position-switch-may-fail-and-cause-sluggish-acceleration-023thanks for visiting repairpal!this problem has cost me over $2000 for the replacement of the cars computer board and reprogramming of said board.

Pulled out of a parting lot onto a street. Tried to accelerate to increase speed but nothing happened...then jerks into motion. Dangerous situation with oncoming cars
The contact owns a 2006 kia amanti. The contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.
Smelled plastic like smoke inside vehicle, rolled down window , vehicle accelerated with foot on brake pressing as hard as possible, accelerator pedal went down.car continued to accelerate until striking a tree and rolling over.
Car would not pick up speed as we were leaving from a complete stop took car in 2008 and found the ignition sensor was bad, it was replace car ran good, 2012 car starting with slow speed at acceleration, changed spark plugs, throttle sensor, 2 ignition sensor. Nothing helped. Took car to dealer, kia kept car for 3 days and could not find the trouble.kia dealer called and notified me it was best to trade in car because it was not worth fixing. As i read reports from other kia car owners it seems everyone has this problem with the amanti but as i was told and many other car owner are informed kia dealers can not find the problem. Kia needs to find a fix to this problem as a kia owner when i need to pick up speed and can't makes you wonder it someone going to hit me.
The contact owns a 2006 kia amanti. While attempting to accelerate from a stationary position, the vehicle would not accelerate past 10 mph. The contact indicated that the failure would occur once the vehicle warmed up. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced a computer board and the failure was remedied; however, the failure recurred six months later. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 75,000.
When starting up from a stop, the car starts-up very slowly for about 4 or 5 seconds, than appears to jump into gear and takes off like a rocket. This occurs several times a month. The car has been taken back to the dealer several times, but it has not happened when they test drove it so nothing has been done to fix the problem. We complained to kia, and have a complaint no. Also but nothing was done.
Bought 2006 kia amanti with 6500+ miles driven by deakler manager experienced sudden acceleration upon initial start up two or three times when car seemed to continue ok after a couple of sudden sudden jumps (this when i first tapped accelerator then stoppedc doing this. This has since happened many times not all the time.to date it has happened 9 0r 10 times. On two occasions car would not shift into neutral but surged at a traffic light dispite my efforts to stop car. I shifted to neutral and stopped car the car worked ok when i shifted into drive thereafter but did it a second time a few weeks later. I did the same thing (shifted to neutral) and it functioned ok. The dealer tested car (on computer and insisted it was ok however when it continued i called kia they refereed me to another dealer (ball kia) nand again tested it but could not find anything wrong. However it is still doing this and i have been back several times. Ball mechanic said to keep driving until it does it so often that they can retest it. I am concerned that if it happens when my wife is driving . She may not know what to do and have an accident.
2006 kia amantispeed control problem at minimal throttle the car would lurch or move very slow and then would buck mostly in cold weather. Never know when this will happen. Started at 4900 miles and still having problem at 94000. Dealer never can recreate problem. We have had the car in many times and its in today still no fix. Ibelieve this car will get us killed. If you pull out in traffic and it only goes 10 miles an hour guess what's going to happen. Does anyone care nhtsa or kia. I think not!
Car stopped accelerating three times this week on trip. This occurred two years ago and kia dealer could not "duplicate" the problem.the car engine doesn't stop but it's as if it goes into neutral; like the transmission disengages.it then bucks, accelerates, and dies.after about an hour, it's fine.
2006 kia amanti - vehicle will "lag" when the accelerator is depressed on occasions and will also "lurch" forward while trying to brake.there are numerous other amanti owners nationwide who have experienced this problem.kia refuses to acknowledge that a problem exists.i have since traded the vehicle in on a honda.to see the extent of the problem go to "edmunds.com" website and you will find numerous owners with this problem.
When parking and trying to put the car in reverse our 2006 amanti kia lurched forward and accelerated down the street. I was the passenger and had unbuckled my seat belt in preparation of getting out of the car. Seeing that i was not belted in, i leaned over and saw that my husband had his foot on the brakes and not on the accelerator. The brakes did not engage, nor could the car gear down. The car kept accelerating faster and faster. The car was steered around a turn and finally lost control due to the speed and crashed through two tree shrubs, through a closed garage door, took out the main post in the garage, and hit the parked car in the garage. The airbags went off and the car stopped. 911 was called and my husband and i were taken to the hospital. The car was totaled! the car had only 20,000 miles on it.

3 different times the vehicle was stationary with the engine on and the a/c was on. Then i would put it in drive and after about 1-15 minutes of driving, the car lost power, and when you pressed the accelerator, the engine would not rev, the car kept on slowing to a full stop. Put the transmission in park, let engine run for a few minutes, then the car would drive forward. The first time it did this, june 10 2016, we had to call a tow truck and take it to nalley kia in lithonia, ga. They fixed it, or so we thought. The 2nd time it happened, july 5, 2016, my husband was waiting for my son, while he was parked, he had the a/c running. When he put the car in drive, it drove/moved for 5-6 minutes and lost power while they were driving, pulled it over, waited about 10 minutes, then it drove again. Third time, 9/9/16, we were at the grocery store, i waited in car, with the a/c running, when hubby got into the car, we drove for about 500 feet, the car lost power, waited a few minutes, then drove it for about another 200 feet. Pulled into a parking lot, turned off car for 10-15 minutes, started it and it drove home with no problems. We tested it the next day and ran the car engine, in our driveway, for 20 min without the a/c on, i drove it and had no loss of power. This is scary, there could've of been accidents.

The slightest touch of the gas will cause it to lurch forward, but also it lags, you can push the acceleration deep and still not much response. Usually this is what happens i'll back out of the driveway, put into drive, touch the gas, and it will lurch. Back off the gas lurch again. Full stop and then the car will run just fine. I have had the car into the dealer they say they can not find a problem.
When pushing the gas pedal after stopping for a light, engine is sluggish and will not accelerate, almost causing an accident. Had it in the repair shop several times, cleaning the accelerator position switch contacts, and various other wiring checks. The last repair replaced the computer control module at a cost of more then $2,000. This problem has been reported many times by other owners on the repairpal web site. So far, no recall notice has been issued. Kia is reaping the benefits of all the problems we all have been having.

After driving the car slowly lost power, my foot was on the gas, but it would not go any faster. I noticed this problem seems to happen after the car has idled for long periods.then it gets power back after car has left to set 30 minutes to an hour.this has happened 3 or 4 times this year.on the interstate and city.leaving me and my family stranded each time. So far this has just happened in the hotter months. Once it sits it doesn't happen again.making it hard to take any where to get it checked out.the car stereo also is cold natured for some reason.in the winter it likes to change stations or cds until the car has warmed up.i have never heard of this.
