The contact owns a 1999 kawasaki vn1500g1.whenever the vehicle is started, the oil light illuminates followed by a tapping noise coming from the upper end of the motorcycle.the vehicle has not been inspected; however, the dealer stated that he needed a new motor because the oil pump may be defective.the vehicle has not been moved since the failure.the current and failure mileages were 37,000.
I was going for a day ride rolled out the bike did a once over and warm up.upon departure i was approximately 1//4 mi. Away traveling at 35 mph. And the oil light came on.i was able to shut down in a quick and safe manner.initial inspection showed oil level at proper level. Further inspection indicated _oil pump failure_.at present kawasaki has agreed to replace the oil pump, seals rings etc. They are aware of this problem yet opt to wait tell failure occurs. As a caution not all kawasaki authorized dealers will mention this design issue. They would rather take the money and run. Kawasaki needs to step up and issue a recall before someone gets hurt. Repair cost est.$1207.00 labor plus parts.that's a lot of money to pay out due to a mfg. Problem.
