2001 jeep wrangler. Consumer writes in regards to rusted and cracked frame.*tgw consumer sent additional letter *tgwthe consumer also stated the horn and cruise control hasn't worked in years and the air bag light has also been on for years.

1.i was making a sharp turn whenthe steering wheel became stuck, then with a little force applied there was a snap and the clock spring broke.this resulted in the horn, cruise control, and air bag ceasing to work.3.i have this scheduled to be fixed by the dealer.

Refer to odi id number : 10185714; airbag warning light now stays on constantly; horn no longer works; dealership where pruchased notified; service scheduled;appears to be common problemwith the air bags frontal sensor/control module where water and/or road salt in the proximity of the air bag control module could lead to corrosion ,and such corrosion can lead to illumination of the air bag warning light or could allow inadvertent deployment of the air bags.

While driving at35 mph air bags did not deploy after hitting a phone pole. Scares were left ondriver's face as a result of this incident.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to jacksonville chrysler dodge jeep ram arlington (9600 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, fl 32225) where it was diagnosed that the passenger air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, years later the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,468.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that while driving over water, the vehicle hydroplaned and caused the contact to crash into a tree.the frame was severely fractured and the vehicle was crumpled as a result of the severe impact. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained a severe concussion at the level two degree. The police arrived on scene to assist and stated that due to the severity and force of the impact, the air bags should have deployed. The vehicle was towed to a local repair facility who also stated that the air bags should have deployed. The vehicle was not repaired and the vin was not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not inspected for the cause of the hydroplaning failure or the air bags failure. The vin was not available. The failure and the current mileages were unknown.

Air bag suddenly was disabled due to clockspring failure.

2001 jeep wrangler se .air bags warning light failure. Intermittent illumination of the air bag warning light occurred when vehicle was operating in reverse gear.when operating the vehicle in reverse gear , 5-sp manual transmission , theairbag warning light illuminates, after going forward a short distance, warning lightwent out.it has occurred 3 times over 3 day period.airbag has not deployed; no corrective action has been performed; dealership has not been notified.

As of 10-05 the air bag failure light intermittently remained lit after turning on the vehicle and the horn & cruise control items have failed to function at all. These items are all under the control of the clock spring mechanism located in the front steering, common to the jeep wrangler and chrysler mini-vans. Chrysler mini-vans were recalled for this failure. When i asked how long it would take for this item to come in, i was told by the chrysler/jeep dealer that this mechanism gets replaced in mass volume and they keep them as a stock item at the dealership because of it. The dealers service rep also added that they would like to see this become a safety recall item. As of 12-05 the safety items will be restored by replacing the clock spring mechanism at a charge to the owner. It troubles me that chrysler is waiting for a certain numberof failures with possible injuries or deaths before a recall is undertaken on jeep - especially when a recall was issued for this exact part on the mini-van line.

My wife lost control of vehicle on city streets.she was going approximately 20 - 25 mph.she went into a resident yard where she hit a 8 to 10" dia. Tree and went over it.she then continued across side street and into another yard where she came to a stop against another tree approx- 6 to 8" dia.the seat belt appears to have worked as expected but the airbag did not deploy.she hit her lip on the steering wheel and required many stitches to repair it.she also had large contusions on both of her shins.the bumper was pushed into the radiator.the grill was pushed into the radiator.both front fenders were buckled as was the hood.why didn't the airbag deploy?

After running into another vehicle head-onat 40-50 mphair bags did not deploy.

I was traveling at about 40 mph when a car turned left in front of me and i hit him broadside.the airbags did not deploy.

While driving at highway speed the consumer swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of the vehicle, as a result the vehicle hit a guardrail knocking it 5 feet away, vehicle was totalled yet none of the airbags deployed.

While driving, consumer was inan accident and none of the frontal air bag deployed upon impact.this resulted in driver being injuried.please provide more details. Ts

Headon crash at 30plus mph and no airbag deployment. Second time a major component in front end has had a promblem.steering locked so couldnt turn either direction.insurance company says they have heard of this in the past. Friend at jeep dealer where towed says looks like major coverup on chryslers part because of faulty equipment, but he will remain nameless unless otherwise needed. His opinion only.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was involved in a crash and the driver side air bag failed to deploy. Upon exiting a blind curve at 40 mph, in normal weather conditions, the contact was blinded by headlights from another vehicle. The contact lost control of the vehicle and hit a telephone pole head on.the driver was wearing a seat belt, however suffered a laceration to the face that required stitches. The police filed a report at the scene. The vehicle was inspected by the insurance company and will be repaired.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler.the contact received multiple recall notices on his vehicle regarding nhtsa campaign id number 00v366000 (child seat).each time the notice was received, he went to the dealer and they refused to give him the required owner's manual addendum.he called the manufacturer on numerous occasions, but they refused to send him the copy that they were supposed to provide.the owner's manual explains how to properly install the anchorage system in the vehicle.since the contact's grandchild rides in the vehicle often, he believes it is very important to get the manual.there had been no failure to date.the current mileage was 7,000.

I had a fire due to a recalled ignition switch that was never repaired, i had no idea when i bought the used jeep from the dealer. Chrysler is now denying any request to fix the parts damaged by the fire

This is one more consumer complaint regarding the heater/fan/blower wiring design failure for the 2001 model of the jeep wrangler.i understand that this continues to occur in other tj model years as well so i think it is a systemic design problem that if not corrected by the manufacturer will eventually cause a serious injury or death.my case is typical of the failures described by other 2001 wrangler owners in that the heater blower fan switch began to drop speeds until only the highest speed was left operational [which i understand is how the underlying electronics specifically a resistor bank fail in this model].recently, this 4th speed has failed and i am not driving the vehicle until i can receive some assurance that the heater blower will not continue to heat up until it catches fire as has been reported in other instances.as i write this complaint, it is about 25 degrees outside, so driving my 2001 wrangler without heat is not an option.i guess i am lucky that (a) it failed completely in cold weather forcing me to (b) research the issue learning that (c) this obvious vehicle defect can result in the wrangler catching fire which has forced me to (d) go without the use of the wrangler until a factory designed and sponsored fix is engineered and installed.so, in summary, 2001 wrangler ' failed heater/fan/blower switch ' many other cases for this model year and surrounding model years ' has a history of causing vehicle fires ' this needs to be a factory sponsored re-engineer and recall, and needs to be done now before a fire situation causes a serious accident or injury or death !

The hvac system in my 2001 jeep wrangler was burnt and melted, due to lack of proper equipment. The hvac blower fan, due to being old, caused resistance, sending too high of a current to the climate control head unit, melting and burning all wires, connectors, and the head unit itself. This could have been remedied with the existence of relays for each source of power heading into the head unit.

There is a serious product defect in the fan motor-switch-resister assembly in my 2001 jeep wrangler.this condition has been repaired seven times, six times unsuccessfully (the first time was in 2004, the year i bought my jeep from a dealership) and the last one accomplished august 20, 2009 and who knows how long this will last. The problem is that the fan switch suddenly fails to operate and when the matter is investigated the mechanic finds that the blower motor, relay and switch have melted.there is some sort of electrical problem or surge which six repairs have failed to correct and my fear is my jeep will catch on fire as has been reported in a number of cases.

Looks like there was a small fire behind the heater controls all the wires and the back of the switches are melted this is the second time the fan motor control switch has been melted.

I left my top off of my jeep wrangler and it rained hard into the night and next morning. I heard the horn going off randomly so i ran outside and the drivers side dash and steering column were engulfed in flames. I quickly opened the hood, disconnected the battery and then put out the fire with the hose. The whole steering column and surrounding dash and wiring harness are completely melted. The incident happened while the jeep was parked in the driveway

When sitting in my driveway with the engine running i noticed a burnt odor smell from the dash area. The air conditioner was running onhigh blower and on the max setting of internal air flow.the blower stopped working shortly after this happened.upon inspection of the blower switch i found the switch had started to burn and melt at the connection for the max blower speed.ihave replaced the switch twice now with the same problem, the circuit needs a relay in it to preventthe blower switch from over heating and causing the wire from burning up.at no time was the fuse blown on the circuit.

The blower motor switch ground, connected to the mode selector has melted in my jeep. This is the second time this has happened. Back in july 2013 the connection to the mode selector melted. I replaced the hvac ac a/c & heater control with blower motor switch only to have it melt again one year later.

Jeep wrangler sport, 4.0l was purchased as subsequent owner in 2003(?) in san juan, puerto rico.the problem appeared in maybe 2008 after moving to panama city (panam).an airbag warning light was observed, intermittently, when first starting.usually a second attempt was successful.grupo q chrysler jeep replaced the ignition switch, at my expense.i was unaware that chrysler daimler had recalled these vehicles for ignition switch problems in 2003/04, i think.my research revealed that gm/ac-delco was oeming these switches to chrysler-daimler, and maybe others.the only thing i experienced was an annoyance, but those symptoms seemed to suggest that i may have been driving with disabled air-bags, had i not noticed the light, or if had been non-functional.the question is how many people might still be driving non-gm cars with these defective switches, and why has this not been publicized?

I have a jeep that has a frame that is rusted in the rear trailing arms and were the transmission is held. No incident has happened yet but if this were to break on the road could cause an accident. I work for hyundai who has a recall on quite a few cars and suvs for the frame rotting out on cars as old as 2000 i also no toyota and nissan and other manufactures have recalls on frames why not jeep i realize it may be specific to salt belt areas but those other companies are fixing the problem. Also the climate control melted could have caused a fire i know this is also a common problem.

I was driving with the air conditioner on when i smelled burning plastic, then smoke came out of the air vents.i pulled over and turned off the air conditioner and got out of the vehicle.after about 15 minthe smell dissipated and i continued on without the air conditioning.later i removed the covers and found that there had been a fire in the plug that goes to the blower motor resistor

I went to start jeep thought dead battery and tried to charge battery gauges on dash jumped around finallybattery enough to turn over but would not start saw warning lite for key on dash.engine would turn over butnot start.took to jeep dealer replaced computer module and found corroded main power feed in engine wiring harness spliced in new wire and serial data all came back.i was returning home just pulling into driveway engine lite came on along with other lites engine stalled tried to start same problem as before.returned jeepto dealer currently waiting for answer to problem computer does not accept my key?i brought this jeep used that is why i am looking into any recalls or known problems of this nature.

The dash blower control was not working.when the mechanic check it and the system, it was discovered that the blower had over heated the pigtail connectors and melted them.the blower control was visibly melted and multiple signs of overheating were apparent.the blower control, all pigtail connectors and the blower had to be replaced.this was caught just short of me having to deal with a fire being caused by this over heating of the electrical parts of the a/c-heater system.this is the same situation as reported in other complaints.refer to odi id numbers:10364281, 10283272, 10181912 and 10145512.

Sometimes vehicle will start and sometimes it won't.

Key disengages and falls out of the ignition switch and can happen at any time while driving.

The vehicle was destroyed in a fire, in which fire officials stated the fire started in the dashboard, however consumer received a recall notice regarding the ignition switch and felt the fire damage was a result of the recall.*jg

Consumer received recall notice 02v075000 relating to the ignition switch.when vehicle was taken to local dealer, consumer was told there were no parts.each week for 3 weeks consumer has called the dealer and was advised that there are over 400 people waiting for the parts, there is no delivery date for the parts. Consumer continues to drive vehicle with a potentially defective part which could possibly cause a fire.

While driving transmission starts to slip.a new transmission had to be installed.there was a leaking tank seal.water leaks through the a/c and heater hoses.there are holes at the bulk head.theres a faulty key cylinder.the passenger door is difficult to open and close.there are 2 recalls on this vehicle.one for a faulty ignition switch and the other for hte intake manifold.*jg

Ignition switch operates poorly.

Consumer received recall notice 02v075000 calling for replacement of ignition switch.however the recall repair can not be done due to lack of parts.

Consumer received a recall notification (02v075000) and upon making the appointment, consumer was informed that the part was not available and that it would be at least 2 weeks before the part would be ordered.

A/c heater blower wiring causes fire at center of dashboard. When a/c or heater is placed in high blower switchs are selector wiring over loads and causes burning. This is not an isolated case. Noted at salvage auctions many 2000 and up jeep wranglers catch fire in this area and burn complete. Hard to figure after fire what has happen. Im sure insurance companys would be interested in this defect. Do not know how many injurys, but im sure there has been some. I have diconnected the high position wire so that overload would not accure till i could figure a fix or jeep will admit to a problem and a fix.

Vehicle burned down to the frame. While driving the wheel column started to smoke.

Vehicle was parked for a short time when a fire started under the hood, near fuel rail and fuel injectors. Damage unknown at this time.

Vehicle caught on fire while parked. Please provide additional information.

The jeep was driven 6 miles, parked in owners yard. Within 5 minutes owner smelled plastic and looked out to see fire and smoke coming from jeep. Motor was melted. Very obvious electrical orgin. Switch was off . Extensive damage. Had owner not beeb quick with hose his home would have burned also.owner burned hand raising hood. Motor not running, switch off jeep caught fire quickly. Repoorts of another jeep burned at bucannon auto mall in bucannon wv this makes 3 that i know of.

While vehicle was completely shut offconsumer went into the store, and when coming out vehicle was on fire. That day consumer drove only 18 miles. Contacted dealer ,and the dealerwas taking a look atvehicle.

Vehicle caught on fire whileconsumer was inside. Vehicle was not turned on. Causewas unknown. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

While traveling the at highway speed of 55 mph headlights went out for unknown reason. Later on, after restarting vehicle headlights came back on. Dealer was notified, and informedconsumer that theywere aware ofproblem. But no known correction have been founded at this time.

My jeep started on fire around/in the steering column.vehicle had sat unstarted for 4 days while on vacation when the fire occurred.monday, august 25, 2001, it had rained and the water being on the wires is the "cause" of the electrical short which resulted in the fire. The soft top was on and the windows were removed. All contents of the glove compartment were dry.

While driving at 55 mph smell of burning styrofoam permeated the interior of the vehicle.a few seconds later, heated styrofoam begun to be ejected fromdriver's side air vents.vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that they were aware of the problem.

Wires for hvac controls are melting in the plastic connector behind the dash.some of the controls don't work right anymore.wires could short and cause fire.

Definitely had a bad experience with the death wobble in my jeep almost causing me to be in a car accident. I feel the pain in back and neck. Will have to go to doctors to get that checked.i was driving on interstate 83 when i hit a bump on the road near construction area when jeep began to wobble out of control. Luckily another jeep on the road saw what was going on and made space for me to exit the highway. I called the tow truck and had it towed.*dsy

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that the engine overheated several times. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the radiator was replaced twice and the engine seal was also replaced however, the failure was not corrected.the vehicle was taken back to the mechanic, who determined that the engine head gasket was cracked, causing pistons 3 and 4 to fail. In addition, the radiator fluid began to drain abnormally. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 136,000 and the current mileage was 148,000. ..updated 11/28/12 the consumer stated the engine head was cracked. Updated 12/03/12

Another victim of the 2000-2001 jeep 4.0l cylinder head cracking between cylinders 3 and 4 on the cylinder head.cracked head has caused many other expensive problems throughout the engine such as (coolant system failure, crankcase bearing failures, oil pump failure, valve stems being warped, etc.)after extensive research and being a part of many online polls this is obviously a problem with jeeps of all models that have the 4.0l inline 6 cylinder heads of these years.the vehicle was in motion when cracked head occurred causing the engine to overheat as well as oil pressure to drop.also caused malfunction and ruined o2 sensors on vehicle.the cylinder heads in these 2000-2001 jeeps of all models are faulty and it is obvious cause jeep changed the heads the following year in 2002.they claim that these heads are cracking due to the engine overheating.this particular jeep has never been overheated in order for it to cause the cylinder head to crack.they are faulty.

Needed to replace radiator after just 60,000 miles.then still had problems with radiator fluid leaking without being able to find where it is leaking.eventually the cylinder head cracked at 80,000 miles.now it needs a new engine costing me $5,000.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. While driving approximately 45 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was maneuvered to a safe location. The contact noticed the engine overheated and the radiator reservoir was empty. The contact dispensed coolant into the reservoir. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the blown head gasket. One week after the repair was performed the failure recurred. The vehicle was not further repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the malfunction. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

I bought this used with only 54,000 miles on the engine.within a year and at 65,000 miles, it began overheating and leaking coolant.my brother thought it was a cracked head or gasket.after tearing the motor apart and sending the head to be checked, two large cracks were found. The casting # is 331.my brother has been trying to find another head for me and was told by one of the sellers that he can't keep the parts in stock due to the high number of demand for this part.

Had vehicle for three yrs and in december started loosing coolant and couldn't find the leak. I took it to jeep and told them the head gasket is going . They said they would check it out and later told me it was a airpocket. I picked it up and ran it for another week, still losing fluid. This happened of and on for 3 times. On the 3 time of me taking it back they admitted the head gasket was shot and they had to replace the head. I went to take it home and 1/2 way there my engine started making horrible noises and jerking. I called the dealership and had it towed back the next day.they then told me due to coolant contamination the engine was ruined and had to be replaced witch was covered under warranty.i now have 3410 miles on new engine and it has started making noise.took it back to jeep and the will not cover the warranty saying i have water and dirt marks in airbox.these were in there when they first replaced engine and i am now seeking legal counsel.

2001 jeep tj, 40,000 miles, slowly losing coolant over the course of 4 yrs.used a pressure tester and verified no external leaks.however, used the same pressure tester with engine running, per the instructions, and the system gradually built pressure from 18 lbs to 25 lbs before i stopped the test.this indicates coolant leaking into the combustion chamber.currently my oil pressure is good and there is no coolant contamination on the dip stick or under the oil fill cap.at risk (long term) is the internal engine bearings: cam and crankshaft.i found a thread on the internet that covers many jeep tj owners with the exact same problem of coolant loss.this is all due to a bad batch of cylinder heads with casting # 0331, manufactured from 2000 through 2006.

We purchased a 2001 jeep wrangler about two years ago.back in november, the vehicle began to overheat.thinking it was the hoses or radiator cap, we replaced both, which stopped it for awhile.in december, it began to leak again, so we replaced the radiator.it is now january and it has begun to leak again.we have ordered a new radiator, but it doesn't appear that the leak is coming from the radiator, and after reading some of the complaints on the internet regarding the 2001 wrangler, we are afraid it may be a cylinder head.has there been a recall on this?there seems to be a lot of complaints related to it'

I bought the vehicle in may 07. 2001 jeep wrangler sahara with4.0l. @ months after buying the vehicle i lost oil pressure. Vehicle returned to dealership and the oil pump was replaced. Less than 500 miles i returned the vehicle to said dealer with a nasty internal engine rattle. Dealer replaced collapsed lifter and bent pushrod. Less than 100 miles later vehicle returned to dealer again with the internal noise. Vehicle torn apart and had the camshaft, lifters pushrods replaced. It has been 7500 miles since my last visit. I now have a slow coolant leak that is making its way into the oil system. I have removed the cylinder head and found a crack in the casting. The casting # is 0331. I have spent numerous hours researching this specific casting # and it is notorious for cracking and slowly leaking coolant into the oil system. My jeep only has 71,000 miles!! this is an absolute let down and has tarnished my outlook on chrysler and the quality of their products. The typical lifetime for these heads is between 60-85,000 miles. Do a search for jeep 0331 on google, you'll see the overwhelming number of jeep owners with this problem. Chrysler needs to be held responsible for their lack of quality and manufacturing and selling a defective product.

2001 jeep wrangler has corrosion in the electrical box, air bag is corroded, problems with the wheel bearings and oil leak.*mron the day of purchasing the vehicle there was a brake problem.there was a leak behind the passenger seat which caused the corrosion.

Vehicle will shut off while driving at any given time.consumer tookvehicle to dealer and left the vehicle there for a month.dealer could not find the problem. Consumer took backvehicle, and had not drovevehicle since.

While driving at 65mph on flat surface and no warning vehicle will shut off, and will be hard to start back up. Dealer notified.

Consumer states the camshaft sensor is binding and breaking, causing the vehicle to stall.

While traveling at or above 40 mph, engine will stall unexpectedly, causing a loss of steering and braking control. Dealership has examinedvehicle and determined tat camshaftwas faulty. This component ison national back order.please provide any additional information / attachments.

The service rep stated the problem arised from a camshaft sensor binding and breaking.i was a little confused so she showed me the broken part.the problem occurred because the signal from the sensor was lost do to its shaft binding and some of the fins snapped off. This could have been very dangerous since it stalled the vehicle.it could of happenned on the interstate during rush hour traffic 5 minutes earlier. Daimler/chrysler didn't share my concerns and stated i had a warranty. Copy of my complaint to daimler and reply available by e-mail.s.

I have an 01 jeep tj wrangler,i have recently noticed a drop in performance along with slowly vanishing coolant.several days ago while in traffic, the oil pressure dropped low enough to set off the check engine light.as soon as i began driving again the oil pressure raised high enough to to clear the light.however as soon as i came to the next light the oil pressure dropped and the check engine light came on again.upon returning home i looked up the symptoms on the internet and it all led me to a very common cracked head between the 3-4 cylinder.i was all too surprised to find out how extremely common that is.

Car has stalled 4 times in the middle of traffic.

The vehicle caught on fire in engine compartment.claim number 13-7491-024.

While vehicle was parked with the engine off, the vehicle caught on fire, possibly engine related.

Consumer stated the catalytic converter was replaced, after the converter was replaced consumer stated there was a smell of fumes, also there was a black fluid leaking, the dealer stated that was due to the replacement of the catalytic converter.

Vehicle was purchased onnune25,andengine light came on on june 26. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said it was a catalytic converter problem, consumer stated that on june 28, enginelight came back on.

How do you convince an automaker to do a recall? do you have to file a class action suit? if you go out to your parking lot and look at almost any jeep wrangler, 4 cylinder engine, you will see that the front bolt for the exhaust manifold is broken off. This will often lead to exhaust leaks and may cause the vehicle to fail a safety inspection. The head mechanic at the jeep dealership told me that all wrangler 4 cylinders do this. He went on to say that he has done a hundred of them. The dealer ship wants hundreds of dollars to fix this. I have asked around at other auto repair shops and the cost is not that much less. If all wrangler 4 cyls do this, and it is a safety issue, why isn't it a recall issue? mica calfee flower mound, texas

When filling the gas tank, gas will spit back out at you, getting on your hands and clothes.

Every time i fill my jeep up with gas it over flows i thought it might just be the pump but it happens at every station i go to.

Hi my complaint is that when my vehicle is started there is a strong scent of fuel.this smell continues until the vehicle warms up then it ceases.i also get approximately 80 miles less to the tank on gas mileage.i have talked to numerous persons of whom own jeeps, 2000 or newer and they had the same problem.most of these were noticed while still under factory warranty, so the problems were simply fixed.essentially they were given a new gas tank and fuel lines to fix the problem.i would just like to put out there that there is a strong smell of fuel which could lead to a very serious problem.please let me know if anyone else has complained of this or had any problems of this kind.have a wonderful weekend.kevin champaigne.

Fuel leaks from under tank after filling up with gas at gas station

I believe the jeep wrangler built by daimler chrysler has safety defects that constitute a series of safety hazards. 1. Automatic transmission shifts and engine rpm accelerating on breaking. On several occasions my jeep engine rpms raced and the vehicle leaped forward while breaking and coming to a stop. Since the problem does not happen with regularity the dealerships can find nothing wrong.2. Front seat belts. The front seat belts do not retract smoothly, quickly and without getting caught in the door locking mechanism.3. Full size doors. They do not close and secure fully as the door is ajar until you re-close the door with force.4. Break noise. I get a consistent clack noise when applying the breaks. I have had the dealership work on this problem on five occasions to include a complete break service. The problem is still there. 4. Build quality. Since i bought the wrangler i have had the radiator replaced (it leaked), all the spark plugs replaced (rough idle), inside right door handle assist and snap on front floor mat replaced, the computer reprogrammed (they said the factory did not do it right), fuel pump replaced (gas leak), seals around gas tank and gas cap (vapor leak), and the rear seals (which were not covered under my chrysler extended warranty). 5. Chrysler extended warranty. Neither the dealership nor chrysler wanted to address the break problem without me paying for a break service.

Whilehood waspropped up and latched in, wind was blowing hard enough that it unlatched the hood, and hood flew up and hitwindshield.consumer wasafraid that if someonewas underhood it could slam down onto someone's head.pleaese provide any further information,.

Consumer stated the speedmeter was not functioning properly.

Frame rusted on both driver and passenger side at brush guard/trans support, and transmission dropped while driving. Bottom of frame under driver/passenger seat were brush guard attaches is completely rusted away and the frame has started to crack up the sides. I would think this would be a crash safety issue. I have never seen a frame completely rust away on a 14 year old car.

I have a 2001 jeep wrangler with only 89,000 miles.the entire frame and undercarriage is rusted out and the transfer case has fallen off.i'm unable to drive it is so unsafe!!i can not believe that a vehicle only 15 years old would be in this condition!! i will be getting an attorney!!apparently there is not proper holes for drainage in the frame and it has caused the water to pool and rust out the frame.i still owe $6000 on this vehicle!i will never buy a jeep again! i called chrysler and because it's so far out of warranty and no recalls they are unwilling to do anything for me...ugh

Removed transmission cross member to replace clutch. Found complete bottom of frame rusted from inside so as to make unsafe to drive. Since have found that new frame is not available and if a used frame is found it to is rusted as to be dangerous. Have checked online and found this to be a common problem. I work in collision repair and find this to be a serious fault. This needs to be addressed quickly before a death occurs. My son's jeep would kill him in an accident.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that when the vehicle was placed in the park position, the vehicle rolled backwards. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Skid plate that holds transmission fell from rusted frame. If i was going on freeway at 55 or plus this would have been a very bad situation....looking into frame i see that this is common with wranglers from like 1997 to 2002 and it is a factory defect....you have recalled mazdas, toyotas and other 2000ish vehicles due to rusted frames...these should be recalled and frames replaced before more fatal things happen....i am looking in getting mine replaced...but if i do and then it is recalled do i get jeep to pay me back for my repairs???

My frame rusted out.this is a common problem on jeep wranglers.i was lucky enough to be in the process of changing my transmission fluid when i found the issue.the part of the frame where the transmission mount attaches to completely rusted through and nothing was holding the transmission/rear engine mount to the frame.

Was traveling down dirt road at at 20 to 25 mph, then heard different noise like metal scraping. Shifting seemed a little harder but was still working. After returning home i looked under the jeep and found the transmission skid plate had rusted away from the frame and only 3 bolts on the drivers side holding the transmission in place. If traveling at highway speeds and if both sides broke loose this would have been a different story. I've done some checking after this happens and learned this is a common issue as well as rusting out in other places with jeeps and think the manufacturer has and least some liability with this ongoing issue.

While driving could passthird gear then transmission will pop out to neutral. Had happened many times, and had taken vehicle to be fixed.but, dealer could not find what was causing this problem.

Consumer stated when putting the vehicle in 4-wheel drive mode, then attempted to go uphill, all of a sudden there was a loud clashing and almost sounded like sonething was dragging, consumer was able to stop the vehicle, but could not disengage the 4-wheel drive, she then pulled out of the driveway and the sound became louder and when consumer tried to stop she could not, the brakes had froze and consumer had to drive into a pile of snow to stop, finally after several attempts the 4-wheel drive released, the vehicle was taken to the dealership and consumer was informed that the transfer case needed to be replaced.

While getting out of the vehicle and leaving it in idle, vehicle started to roll back and accelerate, running over some curbs and small hills before hitting a tree. Then, going forward into a fence before stopping. Contacted dealer, dealer was not willing to do anything. *jg

Rear axle seal broke at approximately 2000 miles.repaired and replaced rear brake pads.took back in for repair of axle seal a month later.4 bolts were missing from the rear transfer case upon purchasing.

Clutch master cylinder failed at 12k miles.

I have a 2001 jeep wrangler sahara with approximately 20 kmi.the hydraulic union fitting between the clutch master cylinder reservoir and the hose disassembled while driving on the highway.the failure caused a rapid loss of clutch hydraulic fluid, leaving the vehicle inoperable without any warning.the vehicle was serviced by the dealership that it was purchased from two days, and approximately 100 miles prior to the failure (the service was for the debris shield recall and a lube, oil and filter change).the dealership and the daimlerchrysler customer assistance center contend that the dealer is not at fault, and the repair is therefore covered under warranty.that means that they believe that root cause of the failure is due to either the design or manufacturing process.in either case, this would cause other jeep vehicles to experience a catastrophic loss of clutch hydraulic fluid while in operation.this is a serious safety issue.i have digital photos of the failed joint.please let me know if there is an email address where i can send them to you.

Transmission makes a grinding noise when in neutral and clutch let out.dealer checked for running rough and found that flash for computer was not available.once flash was available, brought in jeep for flash and manufacturer replaced transfer case shift rod, per tsb.grinding noise was not fixed, pointed it out and dealer told me that was how this model and year sounds.brought it back around 13,000 miles and dealer determined that a new transmission was needed.ordered and replaced standard 5 speed transmission.seemed to fix problem, although there is still just a slight sound which dealer said was normal.

The clutch master cylinder hose failed. The failure caused a rapid loss of clutch hydraulic fluid leaving the vehicle inoperable without any warning.the vehicle was serviced for debris, shield recalled by the dealership where it was purchased from two days and approximately 100 miles prior to the failure. Dealership contended they were not at fault however repairs would be covered under warranty.

The transmission makes a rattle/chattering sound while in neutral (clutch must be left out too). It only does this as the engine gets warm. Vehicle has been looked at on multiple occasions at various dealerships. I have expressed my concern that the transmission may fail once out of warranty if this is not remedied. Dealers all say this is normal, but new venture gear (transmission manufacturer) when contacted says it was not designed to make this noise. Only some vehicles with this transmission have this problem, which leads me to believe there were a series of faulty transmissions made. This is a potentially expensive repair and i don't want my warranty to expire before it finally breaks. I feel that other owners and i are being given the run around due to the high cost to dealerships if they admit this is a problem.. It also has popped out of reverse when parked causing the jeep to roll.

Manual transmission makes a loud rattle when in neutral and clutch is left out.rattle is even louder when shutting off the engine.both the selling dealer and another jeep dealer claim this is a normal noise for this transmission and refuse to correct the problem.i am concerned that transmission will fail.this is a serious defect that the manufacturer and dealers refuse to recognize.

Little to no rear brake performance.front brakes lock up with little pressure but rear brakes do very little even if you use the emergency brake.

2001 jeep wrangler has corrosion in the electrical box, air bag is corroded, problems with the wheel bearings and oil leak.*mron the day of purchasing the vehicle there was a brake problem.there was a leak behind the passenger seat which caused the corrosion.

Rear brakes are disabled, causing vehicle not to stop properly.consumer adds vehicle will not stop in icy conditions unless in 4wd.in 2wd the front brakes lock up while the rear brakes are pushing vehicle.dealer contacted but could not repair until chrysler redesigned the brake lines.

Rear brakes failed to operate when applied.dealer was notified.the consumer attempted to back down a dirt incline.when the brakes were engaged, the front brakes had locked up and the rear brakes did nothing, this caused the vehicle to slide backwards.this happened in the second incident as well.the vehicle was purchased with the rear axle-dana 44/226 mm.the vehicle cannot be used for its purpose. Right rear axle seal leaked grease onto the right rear of the differenital, dealer found bearing faulty and replaced the bearing and seal. *scc

I purchased this vehicle new from a dealer. The vehicle has not been modified in any way. About 2005 it started to shake at highway speed. Did not know what it was and since the vehicle is driven mostly in town it was not noticed very much. Now that the vehicle is driven more it starts to shake uncontrollably at about 50 mph and then it will stop when slowed down to around 40 mph. I have taken it to 2 dealers, a mechanic and a tire store. Since starting to try to correct the problem i have had several repairs done. The tires were checked, the balance was checked, the alignment was checked, new tires were put on, shocks were replaced, brake rotors were replaced, torsion bar clips were replaced, and i do not remember the many other things that were replaced or repaired. The last dealer that it was taken to test drove the vehicle and said that he could feel the shake but he did not know what it was or how to fix it. He suggested that i take it to a frame shop. Since then i found out that other wranglers have this problem and that it even has a name. They call it the "death wobble." when this starts the vehicle shakes all over the and there is little control until you get the vehicle under 40.

Jeep front end wobbles when hitting a bump at highway speeds.aka death wobble. Must slow down immediately, loss of control.

I have experienced a terrible wobble in my front tire that makes my vehicle hard to maintain to even keep on the road it is very dangerous and i could not even steer. I cannot believe this vehicle is allowed on the road with this problem and it is only a matter of time before someone is going to be seriously hurt. I hope something gets worked out with the "death wobble".

Driving on the freeway and my entire jeep started to shake so badly that i could barely hold onto the steering wheel. I thought that i may have blown a front tire but it didn't feel like that. So i started slowing down and making my way to the right shoulder of the freeway. When my speed dropped down to about 45 mph it just stopped. It did that one other time approximately 1 yr later and it's never done it again.

Steering wheel is loose incolumn , wheel will not stay in place whileconsumer is driving. Contacted dealer. Please provide further information.

1.i was making a sharp turn whenthe steering wheel became stuck, then with a little force applied there was a snap and the clock spring broke.this resulted in the horn, cruise control, and air bag ceasing to work.3.i have this scheduled to be fixed by the dealer.

2001 jeep wrangler 52,000 miles 3years and 6 month old. Cylinder lock-ignition lock stuck, steering wheel lock, unable to turn engine on or unlock steering wheel. Dealership replace lock cylinder and also replace recall ignition switch

Hit a small rough spot in the road, noticed a rumbling right after.stopped to check - noticed skid plate hanging down on one side . Frame had rusted through allowing skid plate and transmission to sag. Further checking revealed frameis rusted through in multiple places. In the process of getting an estimate of possible repair though the mechanic was not encouraging..apparently this is very common on the tj series of wrangler. Disappointing, consideringa few well placed drainage holes may have prevented it.hopefully jeep has taken steps to prevent this happening in the future .ihad a ford f150 for 13 years & the frame was still solid the day i parked it.i really enjoy my jeep , but it may be time to switch.:-(updated 4/24/15

The wrangler frame is extremely prone to rust and is very easily rotted out over the years. I believe this is due to a design flaw on chryslers part. There are no drainage points at the lowest parts of the frame which holds in water and road salt and accelerates rust.

Jeep wrangler se, 2001.the front windshield glass cracked three times in the same location (near the drivers side windshield wiper).i think the stress crack is due to a defect in the front windshield structure of possiblyall 2001 jeep wrangler se models.

The vehicle was destroyed in a fire, in which fire officials stated the fire started in the dashboard, however consumer received a recall notice regarding the ignition switch and felt the fire damage was a result of the recall.*jg

2001 jeep wrangler sport, frame is rusting from inside out due to improper drainage holes.currently with 139,000 miles the center skid plate/transfer case mount is ready to drop out of the vehicle.the front control arm has also broke off requiring estensive repairs.

The frame on the tj model years wranglers are made in a box design with no drain holes at the bottom so when water or other corrosives get in they are trapped and this makes the frame rust from the inside out. By the time this is detected it's to late ,the frame is unsafe and won't pas inspection. Don't wait until someone is killed because off this very unsafe design, do something now.

Driving over a railroad tracks, heard a pop. Discovered the frame by the trailer arm, on right hand side became completely detached, as it had rusted through.

Entire frame is rusted causing the transmission to fall out.almost made my son crash into a tree after losing control of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler sport. The contact stated that the driver was traveling 65 mph when the vehicle started to vibrate. The contact also confirmed the frame was corroded. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 78,105.

This 2001 jeep wrangler tj failed ny state safety inspection due to frame rust. Purchased new on 06/01/2001 from a jeep dealership in lindenhurst, ny and only has 116,097 miles on a 4.0 engine. This tubular frame rust is premature due to lack of "weep holes" that allows water to exit the frame, thereby promoting rust from the inside, out and is costly to repair (see attachment).note... Toyota has had similar "rusty frame" issues, but toyota has done the "right thing". See write-up and video here: http://autoweek.com/article/recalls/toyota-frame-settlement-could-cost-company-34-billion ...i love my wrangler, but if jeep refuses to help with this (wide spread) rusty frame issue, i may very well make a toyota my next purchase!this is not just a customer service issue, this is a big safety issue!!!

Frame rusted completely

My jeep was making grinding sounds when i shifted gears. At first it was just a quick grind (metal against metal). Then it got progressively worse as this lastweek went by. It became almost impossible to shift into reverse and it would pop out of gear unexpectedly while going down the road.luckily i didn't drive it much. Itook it to my mechanic and he said i was lucky- my transmission(?) was tilted and sitting on something and that was causing the noise (the luck was that the transmission didn't fall all the way down). The description of the problem fromprestige hi-tech is "check for noise/ grinding in drivetrain. Frame badly rusted out, cross member under transfer case, bolts pulled out of rusted frame." i was then told it was unsafe to drive. Visually it is in great condition without rust on the body. Prestige said both sides of the frame are rusted through because of poor design. There were no holes for trapped water to escape through.

(*note: i live in ct, usa. I park my jeep in the garage when it snows, and in the driveway the rest of the time.) while retrieving something out of the back seat, i stepped up on the running board (aka. Side step) and as i leaned in, it ripped right out of the frame. Within a month of this, my skid plate rotted out of the frame and left my transmission unsupported and my universal joint hanging at 30 degree angle. I brought it to my mechanic, who told me to take it straight to a body shop. It's been there two weeks now! i purchased 2 skid plate mount replacements which they are welding on right now. *note: i'd upload pictures of my frame, but my jeep is still in the shop. So... (attached) are some pictures of the running board and rusted-out mounts.

Frame is completely rusted only 90k miles. The transmission dropped because the structure holding it up was bolted to the frame and because the entire frame is completely rusted it cant be fixed. Its so bad a no body shop will fix it, rust kit is no help with how bad this frame is rusted. This is completely ridicules that a frame is this badly rusted at 90k miles.

The contact stated that there was extensive rust and corrosion to the frame. The dealer and the manufacturer had been notified of the failure and provided no recommended solution to prevent the conditionthe vehicle was to be inspected and diagnosed by an independent mechanic and a dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.updated 06/13/17*lj

The vehicle skidded went into a spin and rolled down an embankment while driving at 45 mph, on an icy road. The roll bar broke upon impact. The cause of the roll bar breaking had not been determined.

My jeep frame rusted out, forcing us to purchase a new vehicle in 2015. I am the original owner, female, never went off-road with it and it was garage kept. Less than 90,000 miles on it today. Upset that i cannot drive it because of the frame and cannot find frame to replace it. I still own it and still waiting to find a frame for it. Now sitting in my driveway. Excellent condition, except for the frame! see photo as proof.

This is been an ongoing problem since i purchased this vehicle the frame is pretty much completely rotted away basically since the day i bought it it is cost me almost $4000 to get the frame repair of repeatably.one such time my transmission and transfer case actually fell out because the skid plate rotted out for bolts on.this specific repair cost me almost $3000 to fix as i had to get another transfer case and a newport of rail made. I also have my rear upper control arm mounts rust off of the frame destroying my rear axle .that was another $2000 replacement.i have seen instances at the shopwhere ports of falling off of these vehicles due to the same issue.i respect the toyota recall the rusted frames and i think it's finally time to make chrysler do the same .they have known this is an issue since the 80s and continue to do this.

The frame has rusted to a unsafe condition because of bad metal and bad design.

Takata recall my vehicle was in motion traveling about 50 mph when it lost control on awet road. The car slid across the road, over a small ditch, and head on into a tree. The car bounced from the tree and swiped the drivers side with another tree and finally bouncing back towards the road. The road was slightly curved downhill in a small town. I attempted to use my brakes while out of control but they were ineffective. The weather conditions were thunderstorms on and off, raining in the area of the accident. I believe the airbag is the safety risk. The car hit the tree in the center of the grill which cracked the radiator, twisted the motor mounts, damaged the suspension, folded the frame and several other fractures. The airbag never deployed, both a body shop and the towing company said it should have deployed. The car is considered totaled. I was immediately taken to the emergency room. Injury's to the driver include broken ribs, sprained ankle, bruised muscles, and a cut on my forehead that required 5 stitches among a few more minor injury's. I also believe the tall steering wheel kept me from being ejected.

Complete corrosion through the frame just behind the rear upper and lower trailing arms mount locations.two large holes approximately 1" in diameter. Stress concentrations due to corroded metal and cyclical fatigue has caused crack propagation and connection of the two holes with one another.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that the rear sub frame was corroded. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Frame rusted out and transmission was hanging under vehicle. Further inspection and the frame is rotted at rear suspension mounts.checking on wrangler forums and many people are having the same frame issues. I'd hate to see what would happen when one of the rear frame pieces lets go while someone is going down the highway.

I was driving in the mountains and noticed an unusual noise under my jeep and got out to check it out and found that my frame had cracked under the passenger seat where the control arm is welded to the frame. After looking more closely, the frame has completely rusted through and is a hole has developed for approximately 20 inches along the center of the bottom of the frame rail and up and through where the control arm bracket is welded to the frame. There is only about 1 inch of weld still holding on the outside bracket. I was afraid to drive home. From the looks of the rust, the entire frame could buckle at any time. I am not a rock crawler and do not abuse my jeep. It is all stock and has really only been down dirt roads and not trails. Upon searching online, i found that many other wrangler owners are experiencing a similar problem several actually had their crossover support for the transmission fall out of the vehicle. I know these vehicles are 10 years old but we are talking about the frame here. This is unsafe and certainly a manufacturer defect or design oversight. After all, it is a jeep which is expected to get some use off road. I can't imagine what it would be like if i truly spent some time off road. Please take the necessary steps to at least let owners know there could be a problem. I normally don't look under my vehicle and this could have easily gone unnoticed and compromised the entire frame structure if i had an accident.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that while having the vehicle serviced for routine maintenance, the vehicle was diagnosed as the frame being rusted and corroded from the front control arm to the rear control arm. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 140,000. The vin was unavailable.

Frame is rusted through at all points where skidplate attaches to frame!! the underside of the frame is rusted through/gone at the area where skidplate bolts to.as a result the skidplate is hanging down and not properly supporting transmission and transfer case..because of this hanging it is causing misalignment of the drivetrain.. Damaging components of the drivetrain.i cannot imaging if this goes undetected and the frame cracks and/or breaks while the vehicle is in motion, at what is the middle of the frame.

Why wait till an accident and or death occurs because of water damage to truck. They cant fix the problem with a factory gasket, having to plaster silicone with a new gasket is not the answer. A new jeep relacement is in order. I asked the help desk at daimler chrysler if in fact he would accept the new jeep after the dealer butchered the truck, replaced the gaskets and now is resorting to plaster the entire area with silicone, his reply was no way, i then asked him why do you think i am any different. I purchased a brand new vihicle not a used one. How long before the silicone cracks, what about water damage to the wiring harness, ie; the head lights, brake lights cruise control, any of a number of things could cause me to crash and or kill myself and or others ? i ask you is this fair?, i spent over $26,000 dollars so i would not have any problems.

Re: major frame rot:we are the original owners of this vehicle and always maintained it per the schedule. I bought the jeep to my mechanic for some routine maintenance. When he removed the drivers side rear wheel he noticed serious frame rot. He told me the jeep is no longer safe to drive and not worth putting any more money into. When i got home, i scratched the rust with my fingernail and was easily able to poke my finger right through the frame. A quick internet search revealed the frame rot is a very common design flaw for the wrangler tj series. Apparently moisture, road debris, etc. Is allowed to enter the interior of the frame but nothing in the design allows for its exit. Since this creates a condition that allows the frame to rot from the inside-out, by the time it is discovered it is typically too late. Many companies now manufacture special frame pieces to repair the damage if you are one of the lucky ones who are made aware of what to look for before too much damage has been done. I sincerely hope jeep will treat this defect the way toyota did with the tacoma in 2008-2009!

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the frame of the vehicle was completely rusted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed that the vehicle's frame was rusted. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the frame was no longer being manufactured. The failure mileage was 107,000.

The wrangler frame is extremely prone to rust and is very easily rotted out over the years. I believe this is due to a design flaw on chryslers part. There are no drainage points at the lowest parts of the frame which holds in water and road salt and accelerates rust.

All jeep wranglers from 1987-2006 have a major problem with the frames rusting out cause them to be unsafe for driving on public road unless the frame is repaired or replaced, my frame on my 2001 jeep rusted out with only 92000 miles on it. This is caused by the frame not being preped, painted, and designed properly allowing water to sit in the frame because there are no drain holes at the lowest point of the frame.

Driving through water results in chronic water accumulation in vehicle (front driver & passenger floor, rear driver & passenger floor, and tailgate floor).this began the very first time i drove through water with the vehicle.that was over 2 years ago. Since then, this problem has plagued my vehicle ... Occuring at least 3 major times since then.as a result, i've had damage to whatever happened to be on the floor at the time (books, clothes, shoes, wallet, purse).not to mention the smell!

The contact owns a 2001 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, he drove over a bump and the front end of the vehicle violently vibrated. The contact had to apply the brakes to stop the failure. The failure recurred intermittently when the contact drove over bumps. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000. The vin was unavailable.

Jeep front end wobbles when hitting a bump at highway speeds.aka death wobble. Must slow down immediately, loss of control.

Frame rusting from inside rear control arm fell off causing wreck

Skid plate that holds transmission fell from rusted frame. If i was going on freeway at 55 or plus this would have been a very bad situation....looking into frame i see that this is common with wranglers from like 1997 to 2002 and it is a factory defect....you have recalled mazdas, toyotas and other 2000ish vehicles due to rusted frames...these should be recalled and frames replaced before more fatal things happen....i am looking in getting mine replaced...but if i do and then it is recalled do i get jeep to pay me back for my repairs???

Driving over a railroad tracks, heard a pop. Discovered the frame by the trailer arm, on right hand side became completely detached, as it had rusted through.

Frame rusted completely

I have experienced a terrible wobble in my front tire that makes my vehicle hard to maintain to even keep on the road it is very dangerous and i could not even steer. I cannot believe this vehicle is allowed on the road with this problem and it is only a matter of time before someone is going to be seriously hurt. I hope something gets worked out with the "death wobble".

Complete corrosion through the frame just behind the rear upper and lower trailing arms mount locations.two large holes approximately 1" in diameter. Stress concentrations due to corroded metal and cyclical fatigue has caused crack propagation and connection of the two holes with one another.

While driving 40 mph thefront end collapsed .as a result, driver lost control ofvehicle.

Whenattempting to make a sharp turn in either direction vehicle shakes and wobbles until it corrects itself tires onvehicle are copping because of the shocks. Dealer has been contacted.

Vehicle's front stabilizer broke.*mrwhen the consumer read the invoice, he noticed that the exact same part had been replaced previously.

2001 jeep wrangler has corrosion in the electrical box, air bag is corroded, problems with the wheel bearings and oil leak.*mron the day of purchasing the vehicle there was a brake problem.there was a leak behind the passenger seat which caused the corrosion.

*scc

The rear axle broke.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 40 mph on the highway, the rear suspension began to shake throughout the vehicle.the contact managed to drive the vehicle home without incident.upon initial inspection of the rear suspension by the contact, it was determined the leaf spring bracket on the left side was fractured.additionally, the left side was not welded to the spring assembly, but the right side bracket was attached by welds.the manufacturer was not notified.updated 12/01/06.

Vehicle was purchased onnune25,andengine light came on on june 26. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said it was a catalytic converter problem, consumer stated that on june 28, enginelight came back on.

Frame rotted by trail arms and center by skid plate why did chrysler never recall these faulty frames?

My 2001 jeep is in real good shape visibly and no rust anywhere i can tell on the body or outside of the frame. However, when pulling the crossmember off that holds the transmission/transfer case to the frame, i noticed a massive amount of rust in the frame. It looks as if the frame came out of a 1920 model car or worse under there.i may attempt to have that section fixed, but i have noticed the boxed frame on the jeep has no where for water to go once inside of it.my only option would be to make drainage holes for water and try to spray cosmoline or something inside the frame and just "hope" the rest of the frame is not rotting from the inside out.i would not even complain but a vehicle that is barely 15 years old already rusted out this bad on the framemust have been designed poorly or made with garbage steel and coated poorly. I am surprised people in the salty areas of the us have not had their crossmember simply fall off while driving. If you need a picture of the rust it is in my phone and can not access it from this pc.

The frame rotted out where the suspension connect to the frame

Spontaneous vehicle fire while parked for two weeks

Frame began rotting out at roughly 100,000 miles.i discovered this while driving down the highway on my commute home from work.while accelerating ifelt a sudden power loss.this went on for another roundtrip the following day.upon returning home the following day i saw something hanging from underneath the vehicle.it was the skid plate, hanging by the passenger's side bolts, supporting the entire weight of the drivetrain.the driveshaft being at that unnatural angle is what caused the loss of power.to think that i had driven 100 miles that way was slightly unsettling.since then i have had the frame welded, which ran $1,200.i have since had the rear rails (behind rear wheels) repaired for an additional $400.my front body mount has also rotted out, which i fixed myself for $10, but should probably be welded by a professional.both mechanic and welder suggested that frame rot occurred due to lack of holes for water to drain out and that the sitting water and salt just ate away at everything.the car now has 215,000 miles on it.i am otherwise happy with the car, but it upsets me that i could have had a major accident due to the poor design of the frame.seems strange that there has not been a fix for the issue, nor a response from chrysler to address the fact that people can die as a result of the frame rotting out.maybe that's what has to happen for a fix?!?at 200,000+ miles you would think i would go straight back to a wrangler once this one bites it, but i will never buy a jeep again based on this issue.i bought this as a 25 year old without kids.with a 2 and 4 year old at home, i would not trust a jeep to transport them (too bad, as my son loves my jeep despite never being in it).i live in the northeast, so rust/rot expected to an extent.my brother owns a ford f-250 used for plowing..same year, same milage...no rot!

Frame is rusting from the inside out.there are spots in the frame where parts are now missing, creating holes and weakening the frame as a whole.there are no adequate drain holes in the frame, from the factory, to allow water to drain from the frame.this has happened over time.

Frame rotting from inside out.this is a severe safety concern.this is a problem related to certain years of wranglers. The severity of the problem should result in a recall as has been with other manufacturers with same problem to resolve this very unsafe condition.

Frame is rusting due to lack of engineering and absence of drain holes in proper locations.inside of frame is flaking off around control arm frame mounts front and back.jeep is garage kept and taken care of.water pools up and has no where to go so a hole has rust through passenger side front behind control arm mount.lots of flaking off from inside of frame.incredibly bad planning on manufacturer's part and now i have a potentially unsafe vehicle to drive without some major frame work to perform.toyota trucks had a similar issue and they replaced the frame.

Jeep wrangler se, 2001.the front windshield glass cracked three times in the same location (near the drivers side windshield wiper).i think the stress crack is due to a defect in the front windshield structure of possiblyall 2001 jeep wrangler se models.

Failure of heating system (extremely common in all jeeps & chrysler cars in general)either blower switch (replaced),blower fan resistor (replaced), and / or blower fan itself. Blower switch assembly melted, which could lead to a potential fire.

The blower motor switch ground, connected to the mode selector has melted in my jeep. This is the second time this has happened. Back in july 2013 the connection to the mode selector melted. I replaced the hvac ac a/c & heater control with blower motor switch only to have it melt again one year later.

It causes the dark green power lead connected to the switch to overheat melting the insulation on the lead and the connections on the switch.this has occured again today september 22,2012. This caused the same problem, wires overheat, connections and wires melt and switch housing at connections start to smolder until switch fails, when switch fails current ceasses to flow to blower motor and everything cools down enough to prevent further damage to switch wiring.fuse for the circuit does not blow out.to repair, switch must be replaced and new wire connectors insalled, and the dark green wire will start to get hot enough to be uncomfable to the touch.dealership parts dept.
