Within in the last 2 years, the cooling system has a had an off-and-on antifreeze leak.parts replaced include the radiator, both the upper and lower radiator hoses, the water pump, the thermostat, and the freeze plug.a leak still exists, causing me to believe there is a defect somewhere not yet determined.

While driving 65 mph the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The vehicle was totalled. Please provide additional information.

While driving about 55 mph the vehicle stalled because the fuel won't get to engine, and sometime the gas gauge shows a quater of tank when the tank is empty.

Fuel vapor line became detached causing fuel leak in close proximity to exhaust pipe which created a potential fire hazard.i repaired this defect by using a clamp to secure the line back to fuel tank.there are two of these vapor lines that are on each end of the tank and they are not secured with clamps from the factory.with the aging of the rubber vapor line it can become lose and when pressure in the fuel tank increases it can cause the one of the lines to pop off.this results in fuel leaking and creates a hazardous fire condition since the exhaust pipe runs next to the tank in the rear of the vehicle.

When the defrost steams the windows there is a significant amount of water/moisture that enters the passenger compartment. Creates a visibility hazard, fogs all windows. Water also drains onto floorboards. Parking brake disengaging is very intermittent. Never can tell if it will hold. Relying solely on reverse gear for holding vehicle. Have ran out of gas twice with fuel gauge problem. Goes all the way up when filled, but will not go below 1/4 of a tank. Consistent problem. Shifting into first often requires first shifting into fifth then back to 1st in order to engage. Oh, forgot to mention, passenger side door will not unlock, intermittent also.

Recall work on the fuel tank sender unit/gasket was insufficient, the gasket material was left in tank. Pickup screen was not attached to pump and rubber from gasket was clogging tube.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the fuel tank and the sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the manufacturer not manufacturing the part anymore. The contact was aware of nhtsa campaign number: 94v106000 (fuel system, gasoline) but the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.

Hello, i purchased a used jeep in may 2018. Once i took possession of the jeep, my mechanic mentioned there was an open recall.so, i called the local dealer about repairing the recall defect. I was told they couldn't help me because the jeep was to old and they didn't have the parts on hand. They told me to call the jeep recall center, which i did... And and they too told me the same thing... Too old and no parts on hand. They also told me to call auto parts stores to see if they had the parts and maybe they would reimburse me and maybe not. Seems to me, they're making me do their job and not attempting to taking care of an open recall.and please note: the fuel tank is leaking.

The driver's door more than the passenger's side door, will intermittently lock up or jam. When this problem occurs consumer cannot open the door from the outside with the key. Nor can he open from the inside by using the door latch.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer regarding recall remedy 02v041000.daimler chrysler informed the consumer the nearest authorized repair dealer was 6 hours away.the consumer requested authorization to have a local shop/mechanic perform remedy, however daimler chrysler denied the request. The consumer felt it was very unsafe to request a vehicle with a safety defect to be driven 6 hours for a recall repair.

While vehicle was in park emergency brake released, and vehicle rolled down the hill.

Parking brake has failed repeatedly leading to a rolling accident in 12/2001. No other roll-a-ways lead to accidents, but did on several occasion lead to minor damage. Local dealer and factory representatives had nothing to save regarding repairs or liability. I personally know several other wrangler owners with the same problem and have asked the to report to nhtsa directly. Please keep me posted on developments. Thanks norm

Transmission shifts hard. *sd

Attended a motocross race on 7-07-02 where i had trackside parking which was on a very steep hill.parked vehicle and left in first gear and set parking brake.was in view of vehicle for most of races.noted as racesprogressed into the afternoon and more people arrived that there was some sitting in front of vehicle(maybe 5 or so in lawn chairs). As i approachedvehicle to retrive cooler out of the rear,i noticed it rolling toward me i ran up the hill ( maybe 20 feet or so) and reached in and cranked steering wheel to the right(as wheel was not in fully lock position yet till i turned it to the right) and jeep rolled into a tree missing the people in front of it and me.note; had soft top and soft doors off so grabing steering wheel was fairly easy athough did not get much turn before steering wheel locked. Upon inspection( after hitting tree and stopping) i noticed parking brake was released!! upon entering this web sitei see that there is a recall # 02v041000 on this vehicle. On 2/11/2002why havent i been notified!!!! if i would have known this i i would never have parked on that steep of hill to begin with!! how many people is it going to take to get injured or killed before we are notified by the mfg!!( i take it mine is not an isolated case as there was a safety recall issued) i hope none of the other cases had more dire outcomes!thank-youdoug brewer.

Vehicle clutch assembly slave cylinder is leaking and does not operate causing poor and erratic shifting.tt

Clutch failed three times. *dh

The jeep was parked in garage and had worked okay the day before. I started engine with clutch depressed and the vehicle rammed forward hitting a door in the garage and narrowly missing a gas waterheater. Mechanic later said the clutch bearing cracked (very rare he claims). The clutch was ruined, the flywheel and the total cost to fix was $1200.00. The door will cost $500. The danger from hitting the water heater was extreme and i would have been trapped in the vehicle would there have been a fire. Again the vehicle drove forward with the clutch depressed and no significant pressure on the gas pedal (which even repairman concedes is probable considering the state of the flywheel and clutch). This was the second clutch in the vehicle and only had 20,000 miles on it!

Slave cylinder failed, causing clutch seals to leak/vehicle to jump when first taking off/poor performance.*skd

Vehicle clutch assembly slide cylinder is leaking and does not operate causing poor and erratic shifting.tt

Clutch pedal linkage detached and clutch went all the way to the floor.clutch was then inoperative and vehicle had to be towed to nearby dealership for repair.dealer replaced clutch master cylinder to remedy the problem.if this failure had occured in traffic or in a pedestrian crossing, seriously bodily injury could have resulted.there are numerous complaints on the nhtsa web site of this exact type of failure on many different years of this make and model.there should be a recall issued on this defect.

Retainer clip broke off main shaft, causing fifth gearnotto engage.the vehicle was taken to a transmission shop for repair.pieces of the clip were found in transmission case.the transmission technician ordered a replacement retainer clip from chrysler parts, and was informed that this problem occurs frequently.the charge for the retainer clip was $4.87.the cost to remove, repair, and replace the transmission was $400 plus gear oil and taxes.if i was the original owner, the repairs may have been covered under the manufacturer's 7 year, 70,000 mile warranty.my concern is the repeated occurrence of this clip failure.
