2009 jeep wrangler airbag light illuminates on instrument compartment.this is the result of a clock spring which has been known to jeep for years.very much a shame that the us gov't right-hand drive jeeps are covered by a clock spring recall but not left handed driven jeeps.it is the same part on the left or right which gets dust on the lubricated and unsealed clock spring.the guess jeep is willing to fix the government jeeps made the same way because of the national safety administration and the lack of support for us consumers ihope jeep takes a hit on this one publicly in the media if they do not fix.this same part was recalled in earlier models but somehow the same part is ok in later models if it is on the left-side and not the right-side of the jeep. Jeeps are not made to get dusty i guess.

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who stated that the clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 71,691. The vin was not available.

Airbag warning light intermittently goes off and on at all speeds/driving conditions. This would be attributed to the clock spring that has been recalled on right side steering models only. I hardly think there would be a difference in the defective part on left hand models either as it is the same part. It would be negligent not to recall all of these. Looking at complaints and online forums this seems to be a very common issue.

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4-door 4x4. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the failure was the result of a reversed wiring system. The failure and current mileages were 38,000. Updated 8/29/11 updated 09/21/11

On the 2009 jeep wrangler 4-dr 4x4 (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.the abs esp and bas lights come on when going over a bump, having a car wash or going around a corner. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2009 jeep wrangler 4-dr 4x4 (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. It's all over the web on various online jeep forums.this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2009 jeep wrangler 4-dr 4x4 (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. I have spent over $1000 replacing parts and getting the jeep chrysler certified technicians to diagnose the issue and resolve it but to date they have not and the lights are still on.

The airbag clock spring in the steering column has malfunctioned causing airbags to be disabled.this is a very wide spread issue on 07-2011 jeep wranglers, well documented on many owner boards. An official recall exists, but only for rhd models and 2007 lhd models. That is in spite of the fact that the failure prone oe part was used on wrangler models through 2011. The part number of the improved design replacement part is 5156106ac, which services all wrangles 2007-2014.

Starting on 12/23/2013, the airbag sensor dinged and became lit on dash, remains lit for about 8 seconds, dings and disappear only to reappear again with a ding in about 8 seconds. This repeats the entire time while driving. Contacted nw jeep/chrysler and they informed this writer it is likely the clock spring and the airbag will not deploy if needed. The dealership continued of a price around $250 to fix it. I find it hard to believe, knowing 07 and 08 jeeps have this same issue, that this writer would be responsible for fixing a faulty sensor imperative for safety.

The air bag light continually comes on.no accidents.dealer told me it was clockspring and is was only covered under basic warranty which is now expired.i didn't know safety related components are only warranteed for 36mo, 36k miles.tell that to my three year old who rides in this vehicle daily with me.

While driving on a city street my air bag light illuminated and i got an audible chime.the light would turn on and off every 10-15 miles and chime each time.now, nearly a month later, the light stays on almost all the time.through online research, i've found that the likely cause of this is the clock spring in the steering column.it looks like if it's not corrected there is a possibility that the air bag won't go off in the case of a collision.i know that certain year model of the wrangler are covered by a previous recall.i'd really like to see the recall extended to all year models that utilized the same defective part.

The airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008, 2009, and 2010 jeep wrangler owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. Clock spring on my 2009 wrangler went out clearly a recall situation here. Safety for me as the driver and for my family as the passengers. Come on jeep this is obvious !

My airbag warning light came on and has mostly stayed on for two weeks.i took it to my mechanic who has told me that the airbag clockspring sensor in the steering column is defective and it will cost between $500-$600 to replace.this same part has been recalled on some earlier models of rh drive wranglers and 2007 lh drive models, however, it is happening in 2008-newer lh models as well, but nothing is being done to replace these.we would like to have our model years covered by the recall/replacement as well.

2009 jeep wrangler left hand drive. The airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime. This is an indication that there is malfunctioning or interfering in the vehicle's airbag system.after researching this on the internet, it appears to be a recurring problem. The clockspring in the steering column is faulty and needs to be replaced. The warranty was extended on the right hand drive vehicles to 150,000 miles, yet there is no effort on chrysler's part to address the left hand drive vehicles.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2007 - 2012 jeep wrangler owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring in the vehicle's steering wheel. The faulty clock spring is a potential airbag failure in the 2009 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Chrysler has addressed the issue in the 2007right hand drive wranglers but will not address the issue in any of the 2009-2012 left hand drive wranglers.this is an extremely dangerous safety issue. Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clock spring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags.

My 2009 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2009 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. Daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying.i had to have the clock spring replaced to correct the problem.

While driving home today doing about 20 mph still accelerating my airbag light came on with a ding, stayed on for about 15 seconds turned off, then turned back on again with a ding then remained on. Upon looking up this problem i was told it is my clockspring and i also discovered that this is a recurring problem in all 2007-2011 jeep wranglers. So far jeep has only recalled clocksprings on government issue right hand drive train jeeps and put an extended warranties on the 2007 wranglers clocksprings. You'd think they'd want to keep the individuals voting in their government officials just as safe as the government workers themselves. When hundreds upon thousands of jeep owners reach out online to discover what their problem is and all come to the same conclusion and yet jeep refuses to see the safety issues in a malfunctioning piece of factory installed equipment that causes airbags to either deploy at random or not deploy at all in the event of a collision or accident. Jeep chrysler has truly turned into a malicious corporation more concerned with their bottom line than the lives of the people putting money in their pockets. This is unacceptable pure and simple, protect the people that keep you in business not just the government workers.

After much research and reviewing recall information jeep has recalled clock springs on right hand drive wranglers only. However, the same issues are occurring on the left hand drive models as well. Regardless of rhd or lhd jeep uses the same part number. They should all be recalled, this is a safety issue for jeep owners everywhere including myself.

On the 2009 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2007-2010 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. In conversations with my dealership as well as chrysler, there was an extended warranty (10yr/150,000mi) issued to the 2007 model year and a recall issued for 2008 (rhd) models.for any other model years, chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring, knowing that it can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying, thus putting vehicle occupants at risk.this has been going on for approx a week at this point, at varying speeds and varying road conditions.being that i drive approx 30,000mi per year, this is a major concern!

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

My airbag warning light illuminated for no reason.i looked this up on the jeep sight and this was a recall in right side steering wheel jeeps of the same age.online numerous jeep owners blog about a similar concern.i contacted jeep and they indicated it was not a concern, contrary to the common concerns on jeep forums.soon after the recalls began to occur so i thought it prudent to express my concern.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4-dr 4x4. The contact stated that the driver crashed into a pole while driving at an unknown speed. The air bags failed to deploy. The air bag warning light illuminated. A police report was not filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v290000 (air bags) and 16v352000 (air bags), but the parts were unavailable for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available. Updated 10/18/16*ljthe consumer stated as the repairman was attempting to park the vehicle, he hit a steel rail, damaging the bumper. The hit was hard enough to deploy the air bags. My airbag lights keeps turning off and on at different times. Looked online to see jeep has issued a recall on most veichles air bag clockspring. I called my dealer and i was told i am not covered under the recall due to where my jeep was made. So that being said a company that took our tax payers dollars and got bailed outcant help make sure a jeeper owners airbagswill work!

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4x4. While driving approximately 35 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clock spring would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the required part not being available. The part was on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

Air bag chime continuously chiming.dealer said clock spring is bad.

Clock spring has gone out on my jeep wrangler unlimited.chrysler won't issue a recall on this but i have read and see many people having the same issues as me.frustrating they won't stand behind their product and have these replaced.

Esp/bas check engine light on, took it to the dealership, they said it was a bad clock spring, they fixed it since it was just under the 50k mile warranty, three weeks later i was over the 50k warranty and the light came on again, took it back and it was the clock spring again dealership fixed it again then a bit over a year later it went again, i don't go off roading or anything crazy now i have to drop 600 bucks (parts+labor) to fix it again in order to make sure the airbag goes off in the event of an accident crazy this is not a recall yet, a common jeep problem that effects airbags and suspension.

Air bag warning light, defective clock spring.

My airbag light came on and horn would randomly honk. Dealer advised they fixed the clock spring. This occurred approximately four years ago; however, it is doing it again. Mine is left hand drive. Right hand drives were recalled and it makes no sense for the others not to have been recalled when it is doing it again!! when it was repaired the first time, dealer did not have updated part. I'm now penalized and have to pay out of my pocket for chrysler's faulty part. I read the recall and rhd units because they have windows down and this is "severe duty." please understand this is a poorly sealed convertible and dust is simply part of a jeep wranglers existence. Either way, the problem should not be limited to rhd; it should include all those that manifest the problem or see similar severe duty.

Just purchased this vehicle and it has the airbag light light on after warranty period ended. After getting it looked at they told me it the clock spring that need to be replaced. This is my 4th chrysler vehicle in the last 10 years. I have had to replace 3 clock springs in these vehicle. I looked online many people are facing the same problem, this should be a recall. The dealership wants $500 for the repairs. The vehicle has not been in any accident or any faults beside this manufacture defect. Please look into this matter there are many of us that have the airbag light on this should be a recall.

My air bag light came on (and continues to stay on for the past 2 days) while driving down the road recently.after checking with several sources, including chrysler's recall dept., i discovered that this is a common issue with jeep wranglers, but only a select few have been issued recall notices.this is apparently affecting a broader number of jeeps than chrysler has included in their initial recall (number l37).until i can afford to fix this on my own, apparently my safety is at risk if my air bag fails to deploy during an accident.faulty safety equipment should be the manufacturers responsibility.

Airbag light comes on intermittently.dealership states that$550 to replace the clockspring which has a recall for a small manufacture date. Still a problem with the other models after the recall which jeep fails to fix. Even after contacted jeep they don't seem to care.

My air bag light was coming on and off when car was running and would ding when it came on. Took it to my dealer and was told that they found that the clock spring was bad. I was also told that if i didn't get it fixed my air bag would work.

Clock spring failed.

On the 2009 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2007+ jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. Daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying.

The speed control failed, shortly after that the airbag warning light illuminated. Jeep service had to replace the clock spring to fix the issues. The airbag warning light was intermittent, it would eliminate whenever the stirring wheel was turned and then reset shortly after returning to center. If any force was applied to the stirring wheel i.e. Gently pulling on it or pushing on it it would also cause the airbag warning light to illuminate. The speed control failure was complete. It would not activate at all after failure.

I am having a problem with my airbag light turning on and off repeatedly and dinging at me every time the light turns on.this problem just started after owning my vehicle since i drove it off the lot in early 2009.upon research this is a very common problem that involves a very expensive part called the clockspring.there are numerous reports of this problem.this is a dealer only part.

Keep calling local dealerships to have recall applied and corrected and either they do not respond to calls or they claim they do not have the parts and will call me when available. This has been going on for three months. Jeep of riverdale where i bought it and yonkers

I have a 2009 jeep wrangler rubicon. The airbag light has recently come on along with a beeping every few minutes. We took it to the dealer and they told us it sounds like a bad clock spring, an estimated $500-$600 to fix.there have been recalls on this part in 2007 and we believe it needs to be recalled for newer models as well.

While driving off road on a washboard type surfaceat about 5 - 10 mph when my dashboard lights started to flicker and my airbag warning light came on. (it's still comes on and off).when we stopped the battery was hot and had to be disconnected and replaced, also with the airbag light problem the horn hardly makes a sound.my mech says the clockspring needs to be replaced. And it's a "rubicon" :(

Air bag light turns on then goes off. Drive awhile, air bag light turns on turns off. There is a recall for right drive vehicles only. They need to make it effective for left drive vehicles as well. Dealer states its covered for right drive only vehicles not left drive vehicles. I know the postal service do not own jeep wranglers.

Air bag warning light and alarm came on for no reason. It now stays on indicating the air bags will not operate. Same problem led to a recall for right hand drive but not left hand drive models. Guess the usps employees, safety is more important than the average consumer's???

After removing the rear-mounted spare tire on my 2009 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon (4 door, 4wd) i noticed that the outer insulation (conduit) protecting the wiring harness for the third brake light had rubbed against the hard plastic grommet where the wiring harness exits the rear (outside) panel of the tailgate. The insulation had rubbed down to the point that the inner wires and their insulation were showing. This is a safety defect since, if not addressed, the rubbing would eventually go through the insulation on the wires, causing a short in close proximity to the spare tire. I reported my findings to jeep customer service and also took the vehicle to my local dealer. The dealer replaced the oem grommet with a rubber piece, and then ordered and installed a new wiring harness.

******* tipm issues *******while driving 70mph down interstate the jeep lost all power and control abilities and came to a screeching halt in the middle of the interstate. I immediately tried to start up and was like it had a dead battery. Cars were swerving and blowing like crazy trying to avoid me and not wreck. Once traffic was somewhat stable i got out to push jeep off to side of interstate and a another motorist stopped to help. My passenger was hurt from the sudden stop when her knees went into the dash. The seat belt did not restrain her resulting in her left knee getting bruised and her right knee got a cut. I have since researched this issue and have found this to be a very common and serious issue with these models. We are both lucky to be alive from this being that several vehicles nearly hit us as well as almost hitting others. There needs to be a warning addressed to all owners as this being a potential wreck less condition. I would like someone from chrysler or the highway safety council contact me at [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Driving down the road at approx 50mph, hit a small bump and the jeep started to shake violently back and forth. I had to grab the wheel with both hands push on the brake. I pulled to the side of the road, thinking my tire had fallen off (everything was still there). When i got home i did some research on the internet and found this is a common problem with jeeps, they have labelled it "jeep death wobble". I live in yosemite national park, which has windy roads with no guard rails. If this happens again while driving on tioga rd. I don't doubt it could end in a fatality. This "death wobble" now has me scared to drive my jeep and i'm not the only jeep owner that feels the same way.

Car shakes violently between 50-55 mph. Front steering stabilizer has been replaced three times, "death wobble" still occurs. Happens on smooth, non-bumpy roads as well as bumpy ones.

The air bag light turned on and when the steering wheel is turned and hit any bump the light dings and stays on

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4x4. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that the engine needed replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure and the current mileage was 32,000. The vin was not available.updated 8/23/12

At 1030 am 08 september 2016, my jeep wrangler caught fire and was determined a total loss. I dropped my jeep off for a noise in the transmission on 06 september 2016, i then received a phone on the 8th that my jeep had caught fire because the transmission had overheated. The dealership was in possession of my vehicle through this process and stated that i would need to file a claim through my insurance company.

My 2009 jeep wrangler 4 door caught fire when my wife was driving my children to school.it had 6,000 miles on it. The jeep was deemed a total loss by safety insurance. The vehicle had not been touched since leaving the dealership. We contacted the dealer who has been very helpful but forwarded us to the manufacturer . We have been getting the company policies and procedures run around. Customer service to the special investigation unit { no phone number to contact them direct}to the legal department where it is right now. Beware of this problem and the not so friendly customer service that follows. Its been our experience the company is more interested in a law suit than a potential safety problem.

I have had a "hot oil" light come on my 2009 jeep wrangler a few times.from what i understand there is a recall out on this issue already for those people who do not have the "hot oil" light.this is not a fix!all this light is doing is saying that your transmission is hot enough to the point to cause a fire.

While fueling up at gas station, station fuel nozzle did not shut off after tank was filled.it is now march of 2014.the problems with fueling up have gotten much worse.it seemed to be sporadic when the vehicle was a couple years old.when traveling out of nj,i can usually stop the gas flow before it overfills.currently, nj is not self serve, and the attendants tell me that this is a jeep issue.i became curious and looked at this nhtsa site and found that this is not an isolated issue.2009 jeep is now out of warranty.

Not sure about the exact date or mileage but approximately two months ago, gasoline began spilling out of my gas tank while filling up the vehicle.i was not trying to "top it off" as it doesn't even click.it has happened every time i try to fill up since the first occurrence.it has happened at numerous gas stations.i now have to estimate how much gas to enter into my vehicle so it does not overflow.several times gasoline has spilled onto my clothing.

When i go to fill the gas tank of my 2009 jeep wrangler unlimited gas comes burping out of the hole where you fill it.

When filling my gas tank up, gas will overflow out of the filler tube, onto the side of my jeep, onto the bumper and onto the ground when it is full or close to being full.the gas nozzle will shut off, but a lot of gas pours out.even when i manually hold the nozzle to slow the flow down, it still spills over.this has happened on 3 different pumps at the same station.the station is a newer station, around 5 years old.

Every time i fill my jeep up, it will overfill and spill out of the hose and onto the fender. I can stop for a couple of seconds before it gets full and add gas slowly and it will stop. I wipe it off every time but it still leaves residue on the fender and side of my jeep. It also leaves a small puddle in the ground. This is a very bad issue and needs to be fixed.

Approximately 1/4 gallon of gas back flows forcefully out of filler neck immediately following the release of the handle when the tank is full.this happens both when the handle is locked down in the fueling position and automatically clicks off and when i'm holding the handle to fill the tank. At no time am i attempting to overfill the tank beyond the safety shut off.this happens 100 percent of the time with the result of fuel landing on the rear fender, bumper, my clothes, shoes, and leaves a manhole cover size spot of fuel on the pavement.

When fueling the vehicle it always overflows spilling fuel onto the ground and on me.

When fueling the nozzle clicks and gas stops from the pump to the vehicle, a second later you can hear a rush of fuel coming up the neck of the tank and then spits out of the vehicle.approximately 1/2 gallon or more is spilled all over the vehicle, person filling and the ground.i have attempted over time to listen and pay attention to how much gas is almost full in the tank but the pressure continues to push the fuel out. I have contacted chrysler and no resolution.this is a safety hazard, as well as an environmental hazard with all the gas that is spilled on the location and later washed away into drainage.also, when me filling not as concerned but some incidents of this happening to younger members of household have me concerned.

When filling up gas at the end gas pours out all over the car and ground.

Fuel overflows when using an automatic fuel fill nozzle. Fuel will spill on the ground and sometimes on the operator. Can be a substantial amount. But does vary. Slow manual filling is a must to avoid this.

2009 jeep rubicon spurts gas back at end of refueling-started this problem at 27,000 miles. Similar complaints noted in jeep forums.

Fuel spills out of the fuel filler neck as fueling is near completed. This has happened on several occasions since august and i have tried various solutions and nothing seems to solve the problem. My jeep wrangler now has 37,257 miles and is no longer under warranty.apparently this is a common problem with jeep wranglers.

I am aware of several instances of the following problem occurring which i feel needs to be addressed.i have a 2009 jeep wrangler unlimited and almost every time i fuel it, after the pump automatically clicks off, i get a splash of fuel out of the filler neck.this has been occurring, off and on, since i have owned the vehicle.

I purchased my vehicle used in september of 2011 with 27k miles on it and every time i fill up my gas tank i end up with gasoline overflow.basically, i stick the gas nozzle in and when it is automatically finished, some gasoline spits back out of the tank all over the car, the ground and at times myself.this has happened every time, regardless of gas station or what state i am in (indiana, illinois and kentucky).the only solution is the manually pump the gas and estimate when it is almost full and stop.this is hardly practical and should be fixed.i see that the issue has been acknowledged by a simple google.com search but only for the 2007-2008 jeep wranglers.mine is a 2009 with the same exact issue.

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4x4. The contact stated that fuel spilled out from the filler neck while refueling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the vehicle needed a new fuel tank. The manufacturer was notified and they advised the contact that there were no recalls affecting the vehicle. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.updated 03/05/12*ljthe consumer stated chrysler offered to cover the cost of the repair, minus a $102 deductible. The tank was replaced. Updated 03/06/12

Within the past several months i cannot fill up my gas tank without gas spilling out before the tank cuts off.this happens at all gas stations every time i fill up.the dealer told me the tubing needed to be replaced so they did it.but, i still had the problem.now they are telling me the charcoal cartridge is clogged and has blocked the vent into the gas tank.this will now need replacing.because i am just outside my warranty, chrysler has agreed to cover most of the cost.each time i have to pay a deductible because the dealer keeps deciding it is something else that is causing the problem.i have researched the problem online and it appears to be a common problem in jeeps.why hasn't chrysler corrected this problem?i read there was a recall of the problem in '07-'08 jeeps, but only those years.if the problem was acknowledged, why is it still happening in '09 jeeps?

Purchased new 2009 jeep rubicon and picked it up at the dealership on wed. 3/3/09 with 6 miles on the odometer. Drove less than 2 miles to private property and drove up dirt hill (nothing that a jeep couldn't handle) & it got stuck. Left rear wheel wasn't turning even though in 4w low. The wheel should have been able to move the entire vehicle since it was in 4-wheel drive. The driver got out to check the wheel and the fire was under the back of the vehicle & a loose hose was leaking some liquid. The driver tried to put out fire and was unable to. The fuel tank cracked (unkown if due to fire or if it caused the fire)and jeep continued to burn since tank was full. The vehicle is a complete loss. Driver sustained second degree burns to right hand and his legs. No other injuries. The car fire started a small grass fire that was quickly contained. No structures were damaged, less than an acre burned. The dealership towed away the car for inspection. It is still unknown as to the reason for the wheel failure and the start of the fire.

Everytime i fill my 2009 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon with gas, immediately after the pump turns off, gas starts flowing out of the fuel neck spilling on me the side of my vehicle and the ground.this has occurred at several different stations using different pumps.i can take my other vehicle to same pump and not have the same problem.i'm concerned not only of the damage this is doing to the body of my wrangler but also the environment because of all the gas spilling on the ground.

Each time i fill up the gas tank the gas overflows and erupts out of the filling holespewing gasoline all over the bumper, fender, body and myself.

Fuel spills every time that i fill up the tank during the winter. This appears to be a known issue with jeep wranglers, but not with this model year/vin. Although i have entered todays date below, this has happened since the car was new. I have contacted jeep customer service regarding this issue.

Every time filling the jeep with fuel when the gas pump kicks off fuel spills or should i say blows back out of the filler neck covering who ever is fueling vehicle as well as the side of vehicle and the ground.

When filling up the gas tank, it spits back about a pint or two of gas after the auto shutoff on the gas pump turns off. It does this every time now at any gas station. I'm concerned about the fire hazard of spilled fuel shooting around.

About 3 months ago the jeep started spitting out a large amount of gasoline at the fuel pump 10 seconds after the pump shuts off.this happens at every fill now and is extremely dangerous as you have to start the car and drive with the rear corner covered in gasoline.i did research and this is a common chrysler/jeep issue yet they said it's not a covered repair on my year model and could cost $1000 to fix...this doesn't make sense.i urge all drivers with this issue to file a complaint as it's dangerous and should be covered under the warranty if not, recall.my jeep is stock everything and there was nothing that occurred out of the ordinary when this started happening.

When fueling this vehicle the nozzle will not shut off correctly resulting in fuel overflowing and spilling out, aprox 1/2 pint worth.cause unknown. Seems to happen in the fall winter and spring but not the summer. Not sure if the temperature or fuel blend has something to do with it. Bought vehicle new in '09 and its been doing itregularly.jeep recalled '07 and '08 for this problem.'09 has the same problem.

When filling with gas, when the pump clicks off about a pint or more of gasoline comes rushing back out of the filler tube at the operator. It is very unsafe. Chrysler knows about this problem and refuses to do anything about it.i sede on the jeepforum this is a know problem, very scary and unsafe.

Fuel overflows and sprays out when filling tank at gas station.it happens every time we fill the tank over the last two years or so. (our jeep has not been a primary vehicle until recently)i've never had this happen with any of the other vehicles i have driven over the last 32 years.we had planned to let our 16 year old daughter drive this vehicle. Now i have concerns that this vehicle could be too dangerous in its current state for her to drive.the amount of fuel spilled is significant.i am writing you now because my daughter had it spill out on her today.

Fuel spills out of the tank when the tank is full. I never top off after the pump stops. This first occurred a few years ago and then didn't happen again for a while, but lately, it has become more frequent, and seems to be worsening. At first, the spill would be minor and occurred only when i took the nozzle out of the tank. A couple weeks ago, gas was spilling out of my tank just as the pump stopped. Today, gas was squirting out of the tank and onto me. Very concerned about potential dangers of spilled fuel--fire, environmental, personal injury from contact with gas, damage to vehicle.

When filling the vehicle up at a gas station an excessive amount of fuel will kick back out of the tank and get on the individual, the vehicle and the ground.this happens when it nears a full tank.i had the same issue on a 2007 that was recalled by chrysler, but they tell me that they will not cover the 2009.this condition is significantly worse than my old 2007 and poses as a serious safety concern.

I just purchased the jeep 2 months ago and ever single time without exception i get fuel spit back when fueling the jeep.when fueling the jeep the nozzle at the pump will cut off and 1-2 seconds later gas comes shooting out of the fuel tank.today 3/2/2016 i could hear the sound change just before the nozzle cut off and tried to stop fueling before the spit back but was still to late.the behicle was stationary and shut off at the gas station.this happens weather it is hot or cold high elevation or lower.denver is/was 60 degrees today. 5280 elevation. Last weekend in winter park 28 degrees and over 9000 elevation. Next time i fill up i will film the spit back.

When refueling, regardless of fill level the gas will not flow into tank properly on level ground, and spews out all over the ground/car/person. It will not take fuel in any position. It takes about 10-15 minutes to refuel from empty. It will take gas until the filler neck fills up and then you have to stop and let it drain into tank. You have to repeat this over and over again until full.

Everytime i fill up my gas tank it overflows!!! leaving gas all over the ground, me and my poor jeep. With gas running on my bumper and well discoloring it. Please fix this issue.

When the vehicle is at a gas station stationary and filling the fuel tank gas spits out at the filler neck when the pump is left to stop automatically. This issue started at approximately 50,000 miles which s outside of the 36 k miles warranty period. This happens at every fill up and spills about a pint of fuel out onto the vehicle and the ground. It is a consistent issue that repeats at every fill up when the pump is left to stop automatically.

Every time i have filled up the gas tank and used the gas pumps automatic stop, the gas overflows out of the tank and onto the ground. The last time it happened was this morning, 2/15/2016

Every time i fill up with gas the fuel spills all over the side of my jeep after the pump shuts off.this happens at all gas stations.i have been reading on the jeep forums about this problem for years and still no recalls.a lot of gas is being spilled because of this, not to mention it could catch fire.

Takata recall - when pumping gas into the vehicle gas continues to flow when the tank becomes full and gas pushes out over the opening and splashes gas over the paint and moldings of the jeep.i've also been splashed and it usually leaves a puddle.this is a defect and needs to be rectified by chrysler/jeep

Gas tank overflows every time i fill the tank. Internal flange is either non-existent, damaged, or inoperable as this happens every time i fill the tank. Unless i stop the fill short of 16 gallons, gas spills all over the jeep & usually all over myself as well.

When fililng the fuel tank, no matter which gas station i use, the tank overflows when full, spilling gasoline before the pump shutoff can activate. This is stationary, turned off, and level. I've owned this car since feb 2015 and it is a highly repeatable problem.

When i first purchased this vehicle brand new with only 17 miles on it, everything worked as it should. But just under 2 years of ownership every time i fill up the fuel tank- doesn't matter what station i go to- fuel spills out of the filler neck all over the side of vehicle and onto the ground. I takes steps to avoid it by listening to the filling process and stopping the pump manually when i hear the fuel nearing the top, but i shouldn't have to do that. And with the price of fuel, i don't want to have to pay for the quart or so that ends up at my feet!

About 4 months ago i was filling up at pump and the auto-shut off did not work causing gas to gush out all over my jeep and the ground.tried several gas stations and it continued to happen.took jeep to dealer and they were aware of the issue - said it was not a recall, that they had to replace the fuel tank, o-ring, fuel pump and level unit.luckily i have a warranty, however, i did have to pay a $100 deductible.my husband was researching and saw that this is an emissions issue and read that the manufacturer is responsible for any emission issues due to defective parts. I see several people have made the same claim as i and i do hope that someone looks into this issue with chrysler/dodge.i do not feel i should have had to pay a deductible - this sounds like an issue where if it happens, chrysler/dodge should be covering the work/parts.

Has happened numerous times, gas fill-up overflow. Gas spews out all over jeep and anyone standing near it.

I have a problem with fuel overflowing every time i go to the gas station. I've tried different pumps and different gas stations and have the same problem every time. I bought the car 1 month ago and iyhe overflow has been a constant problem. After researching this problem online, i see this is a problem for many jeep wrangler owners. This is a costly and potentially dangerous issue.

Upon filling the jeep with gasoline (since owning the car), no matter the pump/station, the automatic stopping mechanism will stop filling when it is full and a "bubble" will back flow causing gasoline to shoot out of the car and soak the bumper/fender/me.i do not feel safe at a gas station covered in gasoline so have tried fixing this.i have replaced the evap canister but am not sure what to do rather than get an entire new gas tank.

Every single time i fill up my gas tank with gas it over flows. I have to try and listen for the sound of the fuel level getting close so i can let go of the pump handle in time so it doesn't flow over but many times with the noise of the station i'm too late and it dumps fuel down the side of my car, sometimes even spraying out the top and shooting gas over me. It's disgusting and wastes a lot of fuel. I go home stinking like gas and it's dangerous! please make chrysler fix this issue. The 'when did this happen' question below doesn't really apply to this issue because it happens every single time i fill up. I chose the date of my last fill up.

The fuel tank is leaking.fuel has substantially corroded the protective skidplate under the fuel tank.source of leak likely above fuel tank, perhaps the fuel line itself.

Every top off about a quart of fuel escapes past the hose handle that has already clicked off. It goes over the ground, car, and me. Serious safety concerns.

The emergency brake tensioner broke. It renders the e-brake inop. The car must be parked in gear in order to keep it from rolling and may still roll depending on the hill. This is not a one of a kind occurrence and has been reported many times in the jeep jk forums. The tensioner spring is too brittle and brakes at the crimp point on the brake hand lever.

Bad design on shift cable bushing.it disintegrated where it attaches to the transmission, bought a replacement part from the dealer but it won't stay on.should be covered on the power train warranty but dealer says it isn't.

Was at a stop light, turned green, as i was attempting to turn across traffic, it popped out of 1st gear leaving me stranded as oncoming/opposing traffic approached. Nearly causing a sever accident.my family was i. Extreme danger of being hit head on by a truck going 45 mph. (within his designated speed limit). Has been to the dealer several times unable to duplicate my issue but have video documentation proving it. Their is currently a tsb on my issue but very expensive repair. Have read many complaints of jeep knees w/this same issue! how many people/families have to die before this is a called back for repair by the chrysler corp.

Jeep randomly jumps out of first gear when pulling away from a dead stop.leaving the car in neutral while pulling out into traffic.on more than one occasion this happened while making a left turn across a busy street.

At 1030 am 08 september 2016, my jeep wrangler caught fire and was determined a total loss. I dropped my jeep off for a noise in the transmission on 06 september 2016, i then received a phone on the 8th that my jeep had caught fire because the transmission had overheated. I have a 2009 jeep unlimited wrangler x 4 door. The jeep is only 2 years old on 1/20/2011 at 39,313 transmission oil cooler pipes had to be replaced. Wondering if there are other jeeps with this problem. I had to pay out of pocket because the 5 year warranty i bought from acura dealer would not cover the issue. I bought the car used in september of 2009 from the acura dealer with 13,000 miles on it. This issue should have been covered. It if i did not fix the problem, i would have to replace the transmission.

Car rear end, back tires and gas pedal shake when try to back up on incline.

2009 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon leaks axle oil from right front axle seal onto tire.seal was first replaced in june 2010, then in august, and is scheduled again for oct 2010 replacement.vehicle currently has 24k miles.jeep dealer replaced seals first two times and is scheduled again for replacement by dealer in october.leaking seal is a hazard as axle oil is leaking onto tire and could cause loss of control.vehicle is not modified in any way that would account for the leak.

Randomly as you start in first gear from a dead stop the transmission shifter jumps out of first into neutral.the jump happens so violently that the first time it happened i had to make sure i was not rear ended.with this jumping out of gear i fear that driving into rush hour traffic i could be in an accident because of the loss of movement going into or thru traffic.

Incident has occurred since purchase of the new vehicle. About 50% of the time, the standard transmission will thrust out of 1st gear when attempting to accelerate. This often is dangerous when pulling into busy traffic or merging onto crowded highways. Dealership and manufacturer have been unresponsive.

Manual transmission spontaneously pops out of gear in cold weather.this results in a moving vehicle being in neutral.after failing to remedy the problem chrysler advises to leave the vehicle parked in neutral with the parking brake on in cold weather.this does not fix the problem and is warned against in the owner's manual.

Drivers seat sinks down when adjusted up.this happens while driving, causing vision problems in mirror.the seat will even sink down when it is parked overnight with no one in the seat.this happens frequently and is not a one time problem.

Less than 30 days after purchasing my 2009 jeep wrangler unlimited sahara,i was driving it and went to press the brake pedal while the vehicle was in motion going approximately 35 mph.when i pressed the brakes i heard a grinding noise, my vehicle slowed down slightly but not as much as it normally did, it pulled to the left, and wobbled whenever i pressed the brakes causing me to momentarily loose control as a result of it fish tailing.i was unable to stop or slow the vehicle in the same amount of time as it normally took to do so.i immediately drove to an auto mechanic.i took it to pope davis tire & automotive located at 631 s assembly street in columbia south carolina where i was told my the manager, [xxx] that the fluid went bad and caused damage to all 2 hydraulic hoses, front brakes, calipers, and rotors, and that they along with my pads all needed to be replaced.it cost me approximately $880.i found out later that there was an recall on the same year, make, and model.however, my specific vin number did not have this recall.i feel that it was overlooked and i should be reimbursed.consumer stated the leakage could of been due to right and left front inner fender liners caused by wear of tubes. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My daughters 2009 jeep wagoneer x which she has owned new since may had the right front brake caliper fall offwhile she was operating the vehicle. She was driving at 25mph when this happened (thank goodness). The font wheel locked up and made the back of the jeep to come up off the ground. When the tow truck driver arrived he stated that this was the second one he had to come after for the same problem. Currently the only maintenance that this jeep has had is normal service of the engine( oil changes).

Jeep recall k13-i brought my jeep into lawless jeep (woburn ma) twice to have the k13 recall done. I was told that my brake lines did not need to be replaced. My brake lines are worn from the fenders and are starting to rust. The dealership did not perform recall correctly.

500 miles after purchasing new the front end went into uncontrollable vibration after hitting minor seam in pavement.had to slam on brakes and come to complete stop to kill vibration.

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4dr 4x4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the front end of the vehicle began to shake violently. The failure occurred whenever driving over a bump. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and inspected. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who informed the contact that the front end linkage and rack bar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

I hit a bump in the road and the front end began shaking so badly i had to slow down to almost a complete stop to get it to quit. Since then this has happened a number of times but it is very random when it happens and tyically i need to slow down to almost a stop to get it to quit. This will be very dangerous if it happens on a busy roadway and i have to slowdown to almost a stop to get it to quit.

Experienced the violent shaking of the front suspension and steering wheel while traveling at approximately 55 mph.apparently this is referred to as a "death wobble" but a recall has not been issued yet.my best guess is, after multiple people die from this malfunction and sue the chrysler/jeep corporation, then it a recall might be issued and the problem fixed!i am highly agitated by this issue and the reoccurence!!!!!

I experienced the"death wobble" in a 20094dr jeep wrangler last week. Shortly after hitting a small bump in the road,we experienced very erratic shaking of the steering wheel and the front wheels were shaking as if they were going to fall off. When we slowed down to a slow speed of about 25 mph,the shaking stopped. We proceeded to our destination and two more times this action happened after hitting small bumps in the road. One time on a three lane highway in new jersey,we had a tractor trailer driver pull up next to us and tell us to pull over, because it looked like our front wheel was falling off.we had the vehicle taken to a nearby chrysler dealer where they diagnosed the problem as the jeep death wobble which happens when something goes wrong in the front suspension. He made it out to be a common problem and i just wonder why i've never heard of this anywhere before.i searched death wobble" on my web browser and got thousands of hits and video on u-tube. Could you please check into this and find out why this so secret ,but yet so common.

Jeep hit a bump in road and front end started shaking. Had to almost come to a complete stop, trying to pull off a 4 lane highway, before shaking(wobble) stopped. After the jeep stopped shaking, i proceeded to drive, hit another small bump, and the wobble came back again.

Car shakes violently between 50-55 mph. Front steering stabilizer has been replaced three times, "death wobble" still occurs. Happens on smooth, non-bumpy roads as well as bumpy ones.

Driving on the interstate at a constant speed and hit a rough area on the pavementand the vehicle began to vibrate and rock back and forth violently.i was able to steer it, but had to pull off the road for this violent rocking to stop.it is not a constant problem, but occurs when certain rough areas of pavement set up this violent vibration.this has occurred on numerous occasions over the last several years.tried to get it fixed, seemed to be a mystery.learned that this is experienced by many owners of jeeps and other select vehicles. There are many, many descriptions and videos on the internet.i alsosee complaints of this on your site.why do you not care?why are you not doing your job?i did not get killed.is this what it takes for you to take notice?i want nothing, only for this to be remedied.it is certainly a safety concern & quite frightening, especially then this occurs in heavy traffic.

Driving on the highway and the vehicle started to shake uncontrollably.you have to slow down to a dangerous speed if you cant pull over right away to stop.the car shakes as if it is falling apart.this has happened on several occasions and we brought it to our mechanic.they informed us that it was the steering dampener and it needed to be replaced and that it is happening to jeeps all over and that chrysler is not covering repairs.after my mechanic fixed the steering dampener, they test drove it and found the shake to still be there and did further investigating.they found that most of the parts in the steering system were damaged, ie. Tie rods and steering drag link.i am bringing the vehicle to my jeep dealer and have informed chrysler of the situation.i am hoping that they will replace the bad parts but do not have a good feeling.

While traveling on interstate at 60mph, during a turn, and after hitting a bump: steering starts to shake violently and car is out of control until it slowed down to 15mph or less.

Driving down the road and i hit a unleveled surfaced jeep went jumping all over the road. I thought it was a fluke and didn't think about it later. But it is continuing to get worse. I have a appt. Tuesday with dealership and they don't know if my warranty will cover this. I didn't know anything about this death wobble until the service man told me it sounded like i have the death wobble. Why is there not a recall on this? this is my only vehicle so i don't have a choice but drive it. This is a severe safety issue!!!!!!!!

My wife and i were going shopping, we had traveled approximately 6 miles from ou home, we were crossing over the expansion joint of a bridge.the vehicle started to shake and vibrating wildly.i immediately slowed down and eventually came almost to a stop, so as to stop the skaking and vibrating.within a few days i made an appointment with the service department at the dealer where i had purchased the vehicle.i explained to them what had happened, their response was "oh, so you experienced the jeep wrangler death wobble".i asked what they were going to do about it.their response was, well we can try a more heavy duty steering stabelizer.i said ok, let's do it.they installed it and it cost me $204.05.i left and proceeded to go home.the same type of shaking and vibrating started again.i made another appointment, and the said that they would try an extra heavy duty stabelizer.they did.it cost me $150.00.i didn't want to pay anything, but the general manager and i negotiated, with the understanding that if the extra heavy duty stabelizer didn't stop the problem, that he would refund, to me, the full amount that i had paid.the extra heavy duty stabelizer did not fix the problem, howeverthe problem does not occur as often.i did receive a full refund, which is great, but the problem is still there.my feeling is, that the extra heavy duty stabelizer simply covers up the problem.there are times that i can feel the front end of the vehicle starting to shake and vibrate.according to the internet (jeep wrangler death wobble), is a fairly common happening, and that jeep/chrysler are full well aware of it, but have done nothing.i also understand that national transportation safety board, is aware of the problem, but thus far has not done anything to force jeep/chrysler to fix it.maybethere haven't been any/enough deaths yet!

While driving on interstate 95 in a 2009 jeep wrangler unlimited (stock) approximately 60 miles into a trip the vehicle hit a defect in the roadway at 65mph and we experienced severe death wobble, ie the front of the vehicle started shaking so violently that it was not steerable.when slowed to 30mph the car returned to normal and we stopped to check the front components nothing was broken or appeared to be askew.as we continued our trip we encountered the same condition/problem 5 more times at speeds of anywhere from 55-70 mph and this did not happen everytime we hit a bump/pothole only on some.after this condition happened for the 3rd time i jacked up the front end and checked thelugs again nothing visual showed why this was happening. We had to cancel our trip at that time due to this safety concern. The 4th and 5th times were on what was supposed to be the return home however we eventually had to park the vehicle until it could be looked at again.( my best guess is that the dealer will again say there is no problem) this vehicle was recently serviced by a dealer and after they were told that we had this problem when going over railroad tracks at 40 mph.they could not recreate the problem and told us that there was no defects in the front suspension.in addition 3 days prior to this trip we also had the tires and wheels rotated and balanced to see if this would fix this condition which i had never experienced ( however owning a jeep vehicles for 24 years i have experienced death wobble before but not like this)but my wife had.

I was driving the jeep down the highway through construction zone and it vibrated violently after i drove over a bump.i had to slow down very quickly during rush hour and was almost hit in the rear by another care so the wobble would go away.i took it to have it fixed and was told this is common.i looked it up online and was amazed.for a newer vehicle i was floored that it was not covered by jeep. I have an extended warranty too. I took it to jeep and they told me i had to pay to fix it, so what was i going to do drive and unsafe car (and it is unsafe, another car almost hit me).i paid to have it fixed.they replaced a damper and guess what there is still a wobble.this is the most ridiculous issue and yet jeep will not stand behind a poor design that they clearly know is a problem.so,i am looking for help making it know that if there is an accident involving this problem i have advised jeep and now nhtsa.i will surely contact an attorney and become very public that there has been warning of this.all i want is for my wife and kids to be safe in a car.jeep should step up and correct there problem.

09 jeep wrangler hits a bump in the road and goes in a violent vibration (wobbling to the point you think you are going to lose control of the car. Very scary! i own the car since new. Investigated the issue on line and and found out not the only one with this issue. So called death wobble!

While driving on the highway around 65 mph i encountered a bump in the road and the front of the car began to shake uncontrollably.i had to come to a complete stop on the highway to regain control of the vehicle. I got out of the vehicle and checked for any visible issues, but found nothing, so i continued with my trip.this occurred again later that same day in very similar circumstances,i was traveling around 65 mph hit a dip in the road, at a transition where the bridge overpass meets the asphalt, the car again began to shake uncontrollably in the front of the vehicle, and i had to stop the vehicle againto regain control and stop the shaking. After a little research i learned this is a know issue with jeeps know as the jeep death wobble.

Jeep front end begins to violently shaking causing loss of control when crossing highway seams, small bumps, etc especially when tires hit them one tire at a time. Jeep must be stopped to correct shaking. No modifications completely stock. Dealer claims everything is good with vehicle and in proper working order. Has happened multiple times over and over.

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4-dr 4x4. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact drove over an uneven road surface and noticed that the front end of the vehicle suddenly began to wobble abnormally. The steering became difficult to maneuver and became uncontrollable until the contact decreased speed to approximately 45 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for diagnostic testing. The technicians were unable to diagnose the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

I live in sacramento, california.i experienced what is being referred to as "wrangler death wobble" on or about 11:55 p.m. On march 15, 2012, while i driving southbound on interstate 5 near east los angeles.this incident resulted in and substantial physical damage to the undercarriage/suspension/steering components of the vehicle. The weld of the track bar housing/bracket on the axle side was ripped completely off of the front axle. There was a total loss of control of the vehicle. It took about 30 seconds to bring it under control by applying brakes and holding on to the violently shaking steering wheel.the car swerved into adjacent lanes.fortunately, there were no cars next to me a the time.i purchased the 2009 wrangler from folsom lake ford in folsom, ca on january 28, 2012, only 46 days before i experienced the wrangler death wobble. The track bar housing was re-welded to the axle and a gusset added in los angeles to allow me to return home.i incurred significant costs for repairs.two expert technicians have examined the suspension and concluded that there is no question the defect existed when i purchased the vehicle and that the obvious defect and "play" should have been detected by routine visual inspection.folsom lake ford v.p. Of operations, john sears refuses to even inspect the vehicle to see whether it is now safe to drive or take any action at all to fix the damage. [xxx] has stated in writing that my only recourse is to take legal action against folsom lake ford.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When my jeep hits a bump the front end shakes violently. It will continue until i come to a complete stop.

The vehicle's suspension and steering became uncontrollable when driving 60 mph and i hit a small bump in the road. This is commonly known as the jeep death wobble.i was unable to control jeep until i slammed on my brakes and brought the jeep to under 40 mph or a complete stop.

I just purchased a 2009 jeep wrangler unlimited x that is entirely stock. Within one week and the second time on a highway i experience what has been named the "death wobble." within seconds it will go from a shimmy to a violent shaking that forces you to slow down or come to a complete stop which can be very dangerous on a highway in the left lane doing 55mph! since it started it has occurred every time i take it on the highway. Apparently this is a common issue among jeeps but chrysler is ignoring this defect and stating it is not a safety hazard.

The whole jeep started shaking violently, and the steering wheel was difficult to hold on to. Had to slow down almost to a stop before the shaking stopped. My jeep is stock, and the dealer has replaced the trackbar which seemed to help for a while, but it's back again.

At 55 mph on interstate 35 south of 635 in dallas my 2009 jeep wrangler ( with 28,000 miles ) unlimited's steering and front suspension started shaking uncontrollably upon driving across the section of the highway where the road and overpass seam meets ...i had to slow to 35mph to get the wobbling and shaking to stop. I have now had this re-occur at least 10 times in less than 2000 miles with 6 services visits in 2000 miles!on the fourth visit to the jeep dealer the service agent actually wrote that i was experiencing the jeep "death wobble" !!what?!? the issue actually has a name called the "death wobble, that a chrysler jeep service agent uses???? my first visit was to ntb tire to get the tires, rotated and balanced, then two weeks later after the second, same incident, i took it the last 5 times to huffines jeep dealer where they , balanced the tires 3 more times , did an alignment, tightened thefront suspension and replaced the steering stabilizer twice?!?i now video taped the car shaking profusely on hwy35 9/12/11 45 miles after the last service visit .. No class action, no recall, how do i sell this defective car with carfax and not take a huge loss on this manufacturer defect lemon?

After about 7500 miles on my odometer, i encountered a problem when driving at speeds of approximately 60 mph; when i encounter a rough spot on the highway the vehicle started vibrating so bad that i had to slow to about 5 mph to get it to stop.the dealer replaced the steering shock.i had to have it replaced again after about 7500 additional miles and again after about 3,000 additional miles and now i am having the same problem after about 3,000 additional miles.

Clunking in the steering system.seems to affect every jeep jk wrangler from 2007 on.cheap/defective ball joints and steering shafts.

Anytime i am driving on the highway and i hit a minor bump in the road the steering wheel shakes extremely violently.when this happens the only fix is to slow down to below 25 mph in my current lane.once i get to that low of a speed the shaking stops.when the shaking occurs it is so violent that i can't change lanes or get onto the shoulder.therefore, the only option is to slow down to under 25 mph on the highway in my current lane which isn't safe.this problem started happening in december 2016.

Driving down a 2 lane road at 55 mph i hit a bump on a small bridge. The vehicle started shaking violently and moved into the oncoming traffics lane and almost off the road. The vehicle was difficult to stop due the front tires shaking so bad. It has happened at least 5 more times at higher speeds (65-75 mph) and usually on small bridges where the pavement is slightly uneven and on the highway when i hit a large pot hole. I have replaced the front track bar, steering damper, upper and lower control arms, tie rod ends, and drag link mostly with upgraded parts in an attempt to stop it but it continues to happen. It has also been aligned 4 times at 2 different shops and this does not help. When this happens traffic on the highway moves to get away from vehicle. With all new parts this is definitely a defect in design by jeep. If nothing is done by jeep someone is going to get hurt or killed due to this problem.

On 03/31/2011 i was traveling at 65 mph when my jeep wrangler hit a bump causing death wobble. The wobble was so violent that i had to come to almost a complete stop in traffic to get it to stop. I have had the vehicle checked out once before for this event and was told it was a balance issue with the tires. I can feel and hear a slight clunk from time to time in the steering area, most likely the trac bar bushings are failing. The vehicle is stock no modifications except a steering stabilizer replacement to heavy duty. This has happened to me twice now. Jeep says it is related to the alignment or balancing but definitely not related to bushing or stabilizer issues. I disagree this is a design flaw the trac bar needs to be beefed up.

On the 2009 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2009 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2009 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. A recall is in effect for the same issue but only for rhd 2008-2012 jeep wranglers.

Violent front wheels wobble after hitting a bump on a road.

Driving on i-81, in virginia and hit a bump in the road.the steering and suspension in the front end began shaking violently and forced me to pull over into the emergency lane.this same event occurred 3 times during this trip.

My wife called me from work saying her jeep was smoking after parking the vehicle. I rushed to her job and found smoke coming from under the jeep. What i found was debris was stuck between the frame and the exhaust pipe in the center of the jeep. Pinestraw been collecting there and was smoldering. I thought that was a fluke but much to my surprise my wife pulled into the garage 2 days ago and the car smelled like it was burning and i removed about 10 handfuls of pinestraw that was smoldering. We do not park the car in the garage anymore for fear of a fire. What makes no sense is the debris not collecting behind the tires but in the middle of the car. It is my opinion that jeep should follow up with a recall or at least tell me how to rectify the problem.

Each time i fill up the gas tank the gas overflows and erupts out of the filling holespewing gasoline all over the bumper, fender, body and myself.

The hood on my 2009 jeep wrangler will bounce 5 to 6 inches high in normal driving.if this breaks at highway speeds i fear losing control of the vehicle.

Driving on i-81, in virginia and hit a bump in the road.the steering and suspension in the front end began shaking violently and forced me to pull over into the emergency lane.this same event occurred 3 times during this trip.

My 2009 jeep wrangler 4dr jk suffers from the "death wobble" whenever driving over 55 mph and hitting a bump a certain way.this has happened multiple times causing the jeep to shake uncontrollably and having to stop to get the jeep under control. Becomes a life or death situation if happens on a busy highway/bridge/etc. This is a serious safety issue that must be addressed. There are countless examples from other owners who suffer from this same predicament.

The whole jeep started shaking violently, and the steering wheel was difficult to hold on to. Had to slow down almost to a stop before the shaking stopped. My jeep is stock, and the dealer has replaced the trackbar which seemed to help for a while, but it's back again.

Car shakes violently between 50-55 mph. Front steering stabilizer has been replaced three times, "death wobble" still occurs. Happens on smooth, non-bumpy roads as well as bumpy ones.

Violent shaking of vehicle occurred when we hit a bump while driving on expressway 55mph. Pulled off road, local mechanics could find no identifiable cause. Tested jeep on road and did not happen again while mechanic drove at 60mph (we did not hit a bump on this test drive)

Jeep must be stopped to correct shaking. No modifications completely stock. Dealer claims everything is good with vehicle and in proper working order. Has happened multiple times over and over.

Jeep hit a bump in road and front end started shaking. Had to almost come to a complete stop, trying to pull off a 4 lane highway, before shaking(wobble) stopped. After the jeep stopped shaking, i proceeded to drive, hit another small bump, and the wobble came back again.

Death wobble - severe bouncing of front end when hitting a bump going around 60 mph.this has happen over 10 times in the last three months and after i had a new steering stabilizer (horizontal shock absorber) installed on front axel.

While driving on the highway around 65 mph i encountered a bump in the road and the front of the car began to shake uncontrollably.i had to come to a complete stop on the highway to regain control of the vehicle. When my jeep hits a bump the front end shakes violently. It will continue until i come to a complete stop.

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4x4. The contact stated that when driving over any uneven road surface, the vehicle would shake violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times in regards to the failure and the front shock absorbers were replaced twice but to no avail. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 34,000.

2009 jeep wrangler unlimited x 4 door 4x4 stock: experienced "death wobble" while traveling anywhere between 40-65 mph front end shakes violently especially when hitting small or large bumps or pot holes. Has happened for the past 10,000 miles and the car has just under 30k now.shaking was so violent that vehicle had to be brought to a completed stop even in the lane of travel on the highway. Very dangerous as a car slammed on its brakes behind me on the left lane of the nj garden state parkway nearly setting off a chain reaction accident.steering damper replaced by dealer claiming that should fix the problem. After picking the vehicle up it happened again.next time the dealer replaced ruined ball bearings due to the death wobble and realigned & wheels balanced and rotated.a few days later the vehicle has the same problem.my wife is afraid to drive the car.please don't wait until someone is hurt or dies to intervene.clearly this is a big problem for these jeeps, just google and you will see many complaints not formally lodged here!manufacture needs to come out with a viable resolution as the dealers seem stumped.

2009 jeep wrangler x-unlimited (completely stock) with 20k miles. This is a notorious problem that has been labeled the "death wobble" by many other jeep owners after a simple google search, as well as horrific youtube videos. At highway speeds, a pot hole or bridge joint initiates a horrific wobble in the front end. Countless incidents over the last 3k miles where the steering wheel begins jerking left and right and tires begin hopping on the road. The wobble forces you to have to immediately slow down as low as 30 mph or even almost stop to eliminate the wobble. Although we have not been involved in an accident due to the wobble, it is extremely likely to happen someday. Slowing or stopping suddenly on a three lane highway when other motorists are not anticipating any need to stop or slow will result in a rear end collision. If unable to safely slow down, continuing driving with the wobble will likely result in loss of control of the vehicle. Extensive research on this topic concluded that there is no known fix. Many have experienced temporary improvement by changing various front end components but the wobble returns. A jeep engineer stated "it is not a jeep issue it is more of an issue related to the fundamental architecture of a solid front axle suspension systems". A very common problem, onset at 17k miles on our jeep and as low as 6k miles on other jeeps, is a jeep problem. Based on accounts of many other owners, dealing with a jeep dealership is a very long process of many expensive repairs, with no end result and the problem still exists. This is a serious problem that i feel needs the attention of a higher entity before the number of property damage or worse, personal injury accidents climb as a result of this 'non-jeep' problem.

Driving vehicle at speeds above 45 mph, vehicle begins to shake violently.commonly called "death wobble" on jeep forums.wife is now afraid to drive the jeep.

2009 jeep wrangler unlimited x 4 door 4x4 stock:experienced "death wobble" while traveling anywhere between 50-65 mph front end would shake violently especially when hitting a bump or pot hole. Shaking was so violent that vehicle had to be brought to a completed stop even in the lane of travel on the highway. Vehicle was brought to jeep dealer who replaced steering damper, claiming that should fix the problem. After picking the vehicle up it happened aprox 10 times vehicle was brought back to dealer the next day, where damper, as well as two other pieces were replaced and wheels balanced and rotated. Once it was picked up to days after it was brought in, the vehicle did the same thing again.however now it does it at random times without hitting a bump. Dealer claim they will open a case with jeep to investigate. Vehicle is unsafe.

The contact owns a 2009 jeep wrangler 4x4. The contact was driving 45 mph when the front end of the vehicle began to wobble excessively. The vehicle was taken to the dealer many times and they were unable to resolve the failure. The tires were changed and balanced but to no avail. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 34,000.

I have recently been experiencing the "death wobble" that a lot of jeeps have experienced. I have not had time to take it into the dealership to get repaired but this is the 2nd 4dr jeep wrangler that i have experienced this in. The first jeep was my fathers 2007 and his ended up being repaired by replacing the steering stabilizer. My jeep recently has been doing this whenever i am on the highway going over 60 mph. The steering wheel turns back and fourth violently and the whole front end of the jeep shakes so hard i feel like i can hardly control it. I have to reduce my speed to about 35 mph for it to finally recover, which is not an easy task on a busy highway. My wife has become frightful to drive the vehicle and i am not that comfortable myself since it is certainly lack of control of a massive amount of weight at such a high speed. This is defiantly a safety concern and it will be awful when someone's life will be the cost to have this brought to attention.

After being alerted to a low tire pressure on my jeeps tire pressure management system, i stopped to check the tires and add air. When i removed the valve stem cap on the rear drivers side tire, the valve stem which was severely corroded, crumbled and fell apart. I had to take it in to have the stem replaced. The mechanics that frequently change my oil have stated that all of the other valve stems are in the same condition and are in need of replacement. These are costly item to have replaced.

Clockspring was replaced july 18, 2016 due to recall. Now the vehicle wipers come on anytime and vehicle then stalls. Takes 5 minutes or more to start vehicle again. This occurred while driving in traffic.dealer claim faulty wiper motor and abs module. Replaced both august 1st, it happened again when driving home that same day, problem still not resolved. Dealer has vehicle again. My vehicle ran great before dealer changed clockspring.

While parked in my driveway, i started my jeep wrangler and put the defrost on.my windshield cracked along the bottom of the windshield.there were no chips, cracks or defects in the windshield.the vehicle was not moving and still in park in my driveway.

Very cold weather for area with defrost on high causes front windshield to crack and then spread the length of the windshield.

Last night as i was wating for my son in our driveway. I literally saw my windshield crack from the base of the windshiled frame. No rock or objects hit the windshield.as i menetioned, i was parked in drive.heat and defrost was on as it is winter time.

Someone will be killed by this failure !!!3rd time....valve stem blow out.. Valve stem corrodes and fails..3rd time..allowing tire to deflate instantaneously..destroyed new tires/wheel and jeep fender. Wife and daughter this time at 65 mph... 2 independent chrysler jeepdealerships service manger say"very common problem. Nothing they can do to stop from happening again". Both service managers say they" will not warranty the issue, it is the owners problem." .. Someone will be killed by this failure !!! called chrysler directly and started case # with them... Said same thing." will not warranty issue..nothing can be done at this time to fix..just bring it to a dealer and hope it doesn't happen again.."someone will be killed by this failure !!!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

During a routine wheel rotation, i was alerted to all 4 of the nuts that secure the tire pressure monitors (and the valve stems) being cracked along their lengths.if only one had been cracked, i would consider it odd, but all 4 means an obvious and extremely dangerous defect.when (not if) one fell one fell off, it would lead to a sudden loss of air pressure and, very likely, an accident.this is a low mileage vehicle that has had no abuse, damage, or accidents that might have caused the cracks to occur.
