On the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler 2-dr 4x4rhd. While the contact was driving approximately 40 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the air bag clock spring was replaced. Nine months later, the failure recurred and the contact notified the dealer who ordered the part and upon availability the vehicle would be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated there was no related recalls. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Updated 09/28/11*ljupdated 2/28/12

A broken clockspring led to an airbag light illumination as well as failure in the esp and bas systems.

Airbag light turns on.air bag won't deploy if the light is on.the clockspring is bad.

My airbag sensor light keeps turning off and on while i'm driving.

2008 jeep wrangler rhd postal vehicles used by rural carriers for usps. Those of us who purchased the vehicles are having issues with airbag malfunction indicator light and no horn use or intermittent usage. One item of interest possible cause is the springclock in the steering column as component that operates both horn and air bag circuits. This item has been a problem in years past with jeep. Concerned with a deployment of faulty air bag issue mostly, trying to get my vehicle in for a complete investigation. Technicians are by appointment only when they are in. Forums at ruralinfo.net confirm others are having these same issues. My vehicle has 50k miles when problem occurred.

The air bag light comes on intermittently while driving. Had it checked last year 1/14/11, the dealersship inspected and found code for clock spring, replaced clock spring and cleared codes and system was operating properly at the time. The dearlership charged 364.48. Now it is one year later and the airbag light is back on. It goes on and off the whole time whlie you are diving. I think this should me looked into because if the airbags goes off while your diving, it could cause you to have a crash or injury or death to you or someone else in another vehicle.

Airbag light came on intermittently.repair shop diagnosed clock spring.replaced it.problem was eliminated.i see this is a common occurrence for this vehicle.jeep should have a recall and fix it at no cost.only had about 38,000 miles on the vehicle when the clock spring went bad.

Airbag light going on and off, now mostly stays on.my mechanic ran diagnostics and has three or four very pricey possible solutions; he is referring me to dealer who charges $89.99 just to hook up to their computer.finding a lot of the same complaints from 2008 jeep wrangler rhd owners.

Clock spring failure at 35,000 replaced under warranty, failed again at 45,000. The dealer wants $370 to replace it again. The air bags will not work now. I cannot afford to fix it every 10,000 miles.

Clockspring went out on this jeep at about 38,000 miles and 69,000 miles, causing the airbag light to come on, rendering the airbags inoperable.had clockspring replaced both times to fix the problem.jeep now has about 97,000 miles on it and the airbag light is on again.we have another bad clockspring.jeep has had a recall on the clockspring for previous models.since jeep has recalled previous models for this same problem, and judging by the amount of complaints about the clockspring i have read on other web sites, you would think jeep would do the right thing and recall it and fix it properly.i have had several other cars with well over 100,000 miles on them and never had a clockspring go out before.i presently have two subarus each with almost 300,000 miles on them with no clockspring problem.jeep is supposed to be a rugged vehicle, but so far i have been extremely disappointed in it and consider it no more rugged than a plastic toy version.this is not just a nuisance, but a real safety problem if the jeep were in a collision when the airbag was inoperative due to a bad clockspring.

Clock spring issue, computer recall, brake recall, trans. Cooler line recall, fuel tank recall (tank replaced three times). Engine short block replacement at 30,000 miles due to poor quality of manufacturer.

I was told by the jeep mechanic i have to replace the clock spring, i had this replaced already at about 40,000 miles. I noticed there is a recall, mine isn't on that list and i feel it should be. I have no horn and airbag light is on all the time.

The airbag light came on intermittently for a period of apprx. 10 days then stayed on constantly. When the air bag light is on the airbags are not functioning. The jeep dealer says it is a problem with a clock spring sensor in the steering wheel. The jeep is not covered by warranty and the mechanic told me it is an ongoing problem that would most likely reoccur. I would have to pay to fix the jeep and pay again when the part went bad again. I have been in contact with many other 2008 jeep wrangler owners who are experiencing the same problem.

The drivers airbag in my rhd2008 jeep wrangler has been on for the last 7k miles, took it in and they said clockspring, after researching this is a very common issue with this later model jeep wrangler.

The horn stopped working and then the airbag light appeared. In my case the failure of horn and airbag occurs always and i feel that this is a safety issue that could lead to death in the event of an accident. At this time i have not had the issue fixed but the dealer estimates $500 to replace the clock spring which should fix the issue. This seams so be a recurring issue with this model of jeep as i have seen that many of the rhd jeeps from this year are having the same issues.

Air bag warning light would turn on and off randomly.finally it would not turn off.

My rhd jeep wrangler has experienced a failure in the passenger restraint system.the air bag warning light came on randomly.the dealership repaired the problem by replacing the clock spring in the steering column.looking into it further on various online forums, i have found this is a common problem for jeeps.unfortunately, when the light is on, the system is non-functional and leaves the passengers without the benefit of the air bags.

Had clockspring replaced at about 40,000 miles because the airbag light was coming on.jeep now has about 69,000 miles on it and the clockspring went bad again.had it replaced again to fix the airbag light problem.this is an extremely common occurance on this vehicle and could easily cause death in a collision if the airbag did not depoy due to a manufacturer's defect.nhtsa and/or jeep should have a recall.

I have a 2008 jeep wrangler x rhd. It has two issues. 1. The airbag light stays on because the clockspring needs replaced in the steering wheel. This cost 500.00 to fix. This is a very common problem and definitely should be a recall. 2. The jeep won't start due to a safety mechanism in the shifter. You have to start the jeep in neutral. These are very common problems and should be fixed by the company. I also have a recall on the steering damper..it has been 4 months since i received the j34 recall...the dealership still doesn't have the part to fix it. I hope this complaint helps in getting these issues fixed. Thank you for any help in this matter.

2008 jeep wrangler x right hand drive- air bag warning light is on, which means air bag is not functioning. Warranty expired, since i use it to deliver the mail. And extended warranty was not available.

2008 rhd jeep wrangler air bag light is on meaning airbag will not deploy if an accident occurs. Clock spring/corrosion issue causing horn not to work which is a safety hazard. Many mail carriers are having the exact same problems with these vehicles. Vehicle will not always start. This whole vehicle should be recalled as it has major electrical issues. The motor went out on mine at 52,000 miles. The warranty is only for 36,000 miles. The motor was rebuilt by a jeep dealer and i was told it had a spun bearing. The air blower controller also does not work half of the time.these rhd jeeps are all lemons and pose safety hazards to mail carriers who spend most of their day out on the road. The horn issue is a threat to the public as you cannot warn an unsuspecting driver or pedestrian of your process. The airbag issue is a threat to the driver. You spend $25,000 on a vehicle, you expect better.

Computer crashed and replaced a year later still messing up doing the following: car shuts and lock up while driving, headlights go off while night driving, horn goes in and out, air light bag on and dings, horn honks continuously, wipers and washer fluid going continuously ,lights blinkingand flashing continuously, car will not shut off in off position, air temperature is not reading right or at all, air conditioning goes out. All of these can be stopped by turning the car offand restarting or in bad times it has to have the yellow rectangle fuse thing pulled out and plugged back in located in the fuse box. Steering damper has gone out, fuel spillage it doesn't shut off and transfer case messed up.never know when the computer is going to do something screwy.just hope it doesn't cause a wreck by locking up and quitting while driving headlights going off in night driving because there will be major lawsuits on all sides. Jeep refuses to fix the problem free of charge. As of april 6 2011 still having these problems.

Horn goes on & stays on, wipers go continuously, wiper fluid flows constantly, back up lights go on, heater fan goes off & on, the engine continues to run with the key out of the ignition and the last time the abs came on while i was delivering mail and my brakes locked up. Once it happened while parked ( the engine was running without keys), all other times i was driving on rural roads and in developments, both driving home & delivering mail. I have video on my phone of the occurrence two separate times.

My 2008 jeep wrangler rhd caught fire while i was driving. I was turning onto the hwy and drove a few feet and noticed smoke. I immediately pulled off of the road, shut the car off and popped the hood. As soon as i lifted the hood i saw flames!! i contacted jeep and they're "supposed to be doing an investigation". There wasn't any kind of warning the car wasn't even running any differently. Scary stuff especially from a vehicle that wasn't giving me any problems. Disappointed to say the least, but folks need to know for safety reasons.vehicle is a total loss!!

Sway bar light was flashing, brought to dealer needed new electronic sway bar due to corrosion. This is enclosed and should have no corrosion i was concerned that my jeep may go into a death wobble if i drove over 18 miles per hour. My jeep has only 40,000 miles.i believe there is a defect due to complaints i viewed online i not the only one so actuator, stabilizer bar, wiring chassis, screw & ret pushcode u1159 was showing. Power wire was corroded and weak cleaned & bent pin new wiring harness was needed. After 2260.00 i got my jeep back2

Engine warning light came on upon starting vehicle. Checked all fluids, and that gas cap was tight. Contacted dealership who said to drive it for a few days to see if light remained on. Indicator light went off several days later. My engine is now exhibiting what sounds like a stuck lifter and chrysler is refusing to honor the warranty on the lifetime powertrain warranty. I also had a steering dampener fail on the vehicle at 32k miles which chrysler made me pay half for fixing.

Brake lights would not shut off.stop lamp switch fell off mounting bracket and the lights were always on.method of holding switch to bracket was insufficient to hold the weight of the switch to the bracket.a new mount was made to hold the switch in place, using the old switch.

Gas flows out while filling up vehicle, it does this at any pump.

Fuel overflows everytime i fill up. If you set the nozzle on automatic, when it shuts off about a cup of gasoline splashes out and runs all over the paint to the ground.

When fueling--once gas hose clicks off, gas belches out of the tank.

When refueling, gas overflows from filler neck without warning.this is a safety concern considering gasoline sprays not only on the vehicle but on my feet and hands as well.i have researched the web to find this is a major issue with jeep owners with a broad range of model year wranglers.

When trying to fill gas tank it will not take the fuel as it shuts the pump off. It takes about 20 minutes to put in $10 worth of gas in. It has progressively gotten worse.

I am tired of not being able to fill up my gas tank all the way. I've had to stop the gas pump a gallon or two before my tank is full so i won't waste gas or get any gasoline spilled on me. Every time i take my jeep in for service or an oil change i always ask if there is a recall yet to fix this gas spillage problem. I have had so many other recalls & other problems with my jeep i just don't understand how this one issue has not been seriously addressed yet. I'm tired of having to babysit a gas pump every time i put ten or eleven gallons in. It wouldn't be such a problem if this jeep would get better gas mileage but it doesn't so i am at the gas station more often than i should be just because i can't ever fill up my tank all the way.

The gas tank can not be filled without constantly re-starting the fuel pump, it stops every few seconds, it happens at every gas station or any fuel pump, so it is definitely not the pump but a problem with the jeep gas tank and/or it's components. It got worse over the last few weeks and months and is to the point now where it takes me 10-15 minutes to fill up 11 -15gallons of fuel. The gas tank was replaced under a recall back in 2011 (at approx. 34000 miles) where with the old tank the fuel pump would not stop in time when full and therefore it resulted in the "spill-back" problem every time. This problem was fixed with replacement after recall, but now i have the problem that i just have this extremely difficult time filling the tank.

Gears engaging with delay as vehicle gets hot. When putting the jeep from the park position into drive, the vehicle has a delay engaging which gets worse the warmer or hotter the car gets and or the longer it runs. This problem became worse over the last 12 months. I have seen several people complaining about the same/similar problem in certain specific blogs/forums and in few cases the vehicle has actually caught on fire, so now i am wondering if this is a major safety issue and what to do about it.

Rear steel brake lines mounted to frame for rear wheels coming into contact with rear sway bar. Noted noise.this noise is a light "clacking" metal sound and could only be heard at moderate speed when on the trail or going through "dips" on public streets with side window down.while rotating tires suspension is checked.discovered rub marks on steel brake lines under the frame next to the rear sway bar.driver's side was worn, passenger side had black paint rubbed off on it.no damage or chafing to either rubber brake lines making final connection to rear hubs. Noted frame clips attached to steel line holding brake line away and into contact zone of sway bar when suspension cycles. Rough measurements between axle and bump stop is about 2/3 cycle when sway bar hits brake line.estimate suspension does not bottom out or contact bump stop when brake lines are being hit by sway bar. Wrote chrysler an e-mail regarding this issue.after two days received a response that read like a "sales brochure" or "commercial" not acknowledging anything that i had mentioned about the brake lines. Then the second paragraph pointed out i had not complied with a "tow bar" recall and that i should.which i had last year.the reason i report this now.last year the jeep was on recall for the front brake lines being rubbed by the inner fender wells.which was taken care of by a local dealer ship.in retrospect of the front brake line recall.thought i would bring this to your attention. Might this same model have had a rear brake line routing issue too?in the case you may want a copy of the above mentioned e-mail and response please don't hesitate.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler 2-dr 4x4r hd. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph when there was a sudden loss of steering control without warning. The contact was able to safely maneuver the vehicle from the roadway and noticed that the steering shaft was detached. The contact temporarily repaired the steering shaft and reattached it to the gear box. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic where the steering shaft was replaced. The failure mileage was 89,144.updated 5/24/11 updated 06/03/11
