As my wife was pulling into our driveway and braking to park the car, the engine sped up and all 4 wheels were spinning extremely fast causing her to thrust forward. She was not in 4 wheel drive mode at the time. She stepped on the brakes harder to see if she could stop the vehicle but the vehicle continued to increase speed and lunged out of control .the only way she thought she could stop the wheels from spinning was to put the vehicle into park. Even though she put the vehicle in park, the wheels continued to spin and the only reason the vehicle stopped moving forward was because she hit a tree. The wheels continued to spin after she hit the tree and the car was still in park and the only way to stop them from spinning was when she shut down the ignition. There was extensive front end damage and the airbags never deployed. The console lights were flickering on and off as this was happening.my wife had concerns with this before as she went to slow down or stop the vehicle at other times she felt the engine speed surge. This has happened on numerous occasions.

Starting in the summer of 2014 the rear passenger side window would work intermittently july 15, 2016 while driving i smelt something burning. Looked behind me and the backseat was filled with smoke! pulled over and called 911. Firefighters determined that the passenger side window had short circuited. When i turned off the car it had stopped the wires from burning. The firefighters disconnected the wires and i carefully continued on my way.during this time i also had an issue with the door locks constantly locking and unlocking, even when no one was in the car. Also, the horn and steering wheel controls, such as the cruise control and radio controls, went out. I jeep about the fire/smoke and also told them about the other electrical problems i was having. I met with a chrysler inspector at a local dealership. Shortly after i received a letter stating that they were not at fault for the issues happening with my patriot..
Water leaks from the light above the dash. It is very dangerously distracting while driving, but also has fried my stereo/computer once already. It has now soaked all of the front interior and has started to affect my electrical system. Have taken it into the dealership three times in the last two years and they cannot find or fix the problem. It happens when it rains, but not always, it builds up and collects somewhere and comes out at various times..while stationary or driving...the worst is while driving and turning corners, it wil pour out water onto the driver or the passenger side depending on the turn.

I own a 2013 jeep patriot. I have had nothing but issues with it and i purchased it brand new in december of 2012. From it turning completely off on me while sitting at lights. To it having power surges, and the seatbelts stop working. I had the engine replaced march of 2016 and it only has 60,000 miles on it to date. According to what chrysler said, it malfunctioned on me and it left me stranded on a freeway late at night. There is a constant issue with the coolant system. And i am now needing another engine it, because of that issue. And chrysler wont cover it even though it is under warranty. I will never purchase another jeep vehicle.
All accessory functions intermittently fail, and may or may not come back on. This includes the radio, wipers, turn signals, fan, and cruise control.
I bought my used jeep patriot a year and a half ago.in the beginning it would jerk on acceleration.now is accelerates on its own.big clunking noise shortly after starting to drive.looses power at times.abs, traction control, brake, 4x4 lights all are on.tailgate stopped opening and now the body creaks a lot

Since i bought car in february of 2018, immensely they had to replace the rear ended and tie rods. I have always noticed how loose the steering is and if i drive in a groove in road the car would automatically go into that groove. I also notice going up a hill the cruise control would be set but car would slow down and not go up in elevation very well. Now the jeep is chugging severely when i am at a complete stop and place gas to go again. It acts like fuel system is messing up and/or continuous transmission is messed up. Also the driver's and passenger seats do not heat and manufactured seat clips all broke simply by getting out of vehicle normally. The passenger seatbelt also locks no matter how or slow you pull it and lock it in. The passenger seat is way higher and unable to adjust height etc.. I am more concerned about power and slugging from stop position and cruise on hills.

While traveling at 75 mph on cruise control on i-27 just south of amarillo tx, the engine of the 2013 jeep patriot shut off. I was able to make to the shoulder of the road without further incident and was able to avoid other cars on the highway. The car would not restart. Had to request that the car be towed to amarillo tx. Waited 3 hours for a tow truck at which time the car started. However, unsure if the incident would occur again, i had the car towed to amarillo. There a technician said that he discovered codes of p0120 and p2135. He said it appeared as if everything reset and that there was not an issue with the car. However, due to the nature of the incident, it could happen again at any time.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and the electronic stability control warning indicator illuminated. The contact shifted to neutral and continued driving. The past week, the same failure occurred daily. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the electronic stability control failed and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
Driving home on interstate, instrument panel lights came on etc, 4wd, skid, check engine. Car slower would barely accelerate uphill, picked up speed going down hill. I called my mechanic took car straight there. I had to drive on major roadways, at rush hour, with my flashers on. I had to have the throttle body replaced.
The electronic throttle control (etc) light comes on intermittently, the jeep's rpm's drop and acceleration is diminished.i nearly got hit 2x now by oncoming traffic. Left hand turn across lanes, merging into traffic on major route.both after car had been stopped waiting for break in traffic.
While driving on the highway my check engine light came and has remained on. I am being told i need a new catalytic converter but the dealership and crystler customer service are all confused as to why my vehicle is not showing up under a recall.it is the right make, model, year and engine size for the catalytic converter recall.
Engine will overheat after traveling 20 miles or so at an average speed of 55 when a/c is in use. Engine will overheat after traveling 30 miles at an average speed of 55 when a/c is not in use. Continues to be a safety issues, began shortly after vehicle purchase in 2013 at 15000 however dealer checked for problem and stated none was found. Problem has existed since and have had multiple mechanics check and not find what the problem is. Last incident had 9 stops for a 69.7 mile trip.
The car had 1/4 of a tank of gas.while driving up a hill just outside of flagstaff, az the engine stalled and stopped running.the car would not start even after sitting for at least an hour.at the dealership the car started right up.the dealership in flagstaff said that it had run out of gas because of a design flaw and that they have seen this before.they told us that even though there was gas in the tank if it is less than half full and you go up a hill this will happen.it was scary as there was no power steering or power brakes.it was lucky that there was no traffic on the road near us at the time. Jeep did a recall of the patriots in 2012 for a similar problem and it seems to me that the design problem was not fixed in the 2013 models.

Car decelerates while driving almost stalling at times, i have taken it to the dealership several times and they state they cannot duplicate the problem but i don't think they tried since they had my vehicle for two days for diagnostics/testing driving and drove less than 10 miles.vehicle is very unsafe.this is the 2nd patriot i have owned and will be my last.

I noticed 4 weeks ago that my 2013 jeep was skipping really bad.i took it to the dealership and they said that nothing was wrong with it.now it skips and engine stalls.i have only had this jeep for 6 months.i am scared to drive it, the dealership told me to wait till it throws a light and then they can put it on a machine to find out what the problem is.in the meantime i am driving around my 15 month grand daughter.something needs to be done about this before some one ends up dead.
Engine stalled while driving at 70 mph on the hwy! it just stopped without warning! car would not start until nearly two hrs later. We were very lucky we didn't get hurt or worse and were able to coast to the shoulder. I had a small child in the carthat rides with me daily, please investigate and recall, we are all lucky to be alive! taking it to the dealership tomorrow because they wouldn't take it sooner because they said i didn't have an apt! they said w/o any lights on they prob. I have a 2013 jeep patriot and the engine and temperature light comes on; on top on that it starts to decrease in speed slowing down out of nowhere i just started financing this vehicle and read reviews that others are having the same problem on repeat spending a lot of money on trying to repair the same issues. It's definitely a hazard that is not a solid fix.hopefully me reaching out can help my problem and others. I am using this vehicle for work so it is very important that it's safe and secures my finances as well.
The vehicle started to decelerate and stall. It is 6 years old. It needs a new transmission. This is an outrage. I have had new cars many times, driving them >175,000 miles.chrysler needs to take responsibility
Vehicle stalls without warning and leaves the driver without power steering, loss of all control until the car is restarted.when slowing down from higher speeds with clutch pushed in the car stalls.it is a random problem.first time - as i was slowing down to make a turn i pushed in the clutch then the brake and started to make my turn and about to put the car into second gear, i realized i had no control since the car stalled while in the middle of the turn with traffic coming.i was able to get the car started again and get out of the way of oncoming traffic.this has happened dozens of times.from the first week of driving, this has been a problem.it is hard to recreate the problem since it catches the driver by surprise each time.each time the driver is left without control.this is a major safety issue.
Car has less than 50,000 miles and already needs the throttle body replaced. Seems to be a reoccurring problem for jeep vehicles.

Checkengine light came on while driving on a back road. I had a diagnostic check done, being told that i have not one but two catalytic converters and my front catalytic converter is bad and needs replaced. Per the jeep dealership, this is a problem with the patriots and many have been recalled, just not mine, how can this be?i lost power for a bit, cut car off and then back on,smell eggs and burn a lot of gasoline

When driving this vehicle in the normal flow of highway traffic for 45 minutes or more, the car will overheat.when this happens the car drops in power /speed down to 20-30 mph.it feels as if you are running out of gas.this makes it extremely unsafe and dangerous to be able to get off the freeway without being either rear ended or side swiped.the car will continue to remain at the lower speed until you get off the highway and allow it to cool.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. While driving approximately 60 mph, a burning odor emitted inside the vehicle. The contact discovered that the excessive heat from the exhaust caused the bumper to melt. The contact was concerned that the failure could cause a fire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000. Update 01/15/16 ma
For the past 3-4 years all bulbs for signal light purpose do not last even 4 to 5 month after replacement. I cannot figure out the problem nor repair shop. Vehicle has been with me since brand new.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled, jerked, and the exterior rear and front lights did not illuminate. The electronic throttle, check engine, and, electronic stability control warning indicators illuminated. In addition the vehicle made an abnormal noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,580.
The sunroof leaks and water pours down from the front overhead lights onto the dash, into the radio and seeps into the front carpets. This happens anytime there is rain, whether the car is stationary or moving.
The car had 1/4 tank of gas and the car started acting like it was running out of gas consistently near stalling when driving.it felt like the car had a clogged fuel filter.i've also had the car fully stall in the middle of the street while driving, almost causing the car behind me to rear-end my car at least one time.when i took this car to a dealership in los angeles in july, i was told the fuel sending unit was the problem and that they would order the part.because the part did not arrive when scheduled and the date was pushed back, i called jeep corporate and they sent my concern to their escalation department.they are anticipating the part will be available in mid-october; however, this is a safety concern and jeep has been dragging this out for 3 months now.this is the second issue i've had with this car and the first issue is now recurring.at the very least, i expected jeep to provide me with a rental car because this is a safety issue.this car was purchased in oregon.
After filling the vehicle with a 'fill up', upon starting and driving, the vehicle began to start 'bucking' and lose power to accelerate.i looked this up and see many people with this same problem that either do not fill their tanks all the way anymore or corrected it by replacing their tank since they say this is a flaw in the design when fuel gets pulled into a canister or container that is supposed to push out vapor build up only, but pulls fuel back in and chokes out. Don't know if i am correct on this language since only going by what other people post. Please have jeep look into this safety hazard and recall if necessary so i do not have to spend hundreds of dollars to replace a tank.thank you.
Raw gasoline fumes seems to be entering through air vents while vehicle is in operation, and fan is in use. I was leaving a convenience store when patrons in the parking lot waved me down to tell me they smelled fuel from my vehicle. I quickly exited from the lot to get the vehicle away from the store and fuel pumps. I didn't buy fuel at that visit.the local police department around the corner has an open lot, so i had an officer come out and a fireman relative stop in to make sure the vehicle wasn't going to combust. Left the patriot sit and had an independent mechanic check it out the following day. He did not find anything upon letting the vehicle run and he tightened up the vent tube or fuel filler neck. This was several months ago. Tonight, with the tank at approximately 1/2 full, i made the same 3 mile trip, using defrost and fan, smelled raw fuel and by the time i got into the store my throat and lips were burning, lightheaded and things looked a little hazy. Drove home with the windows down and will apparently have to have this issue checked out again. Noticed the jeep didn't seem to have great acceleration on the drive in. Mileage is now mid 40k range. Fuel smell coming out is wicked and toxic. I bought this vehicle brand new at the end of 2012. Light driving with a daily 6mile commute for work. This is extremely hazardous on several levels. I can't imagine having children and pets in the vehicle when this happens. Could this be a continuation of the 2012 fuel tank production problem of the same make and model?
The throttle body. I was entering the highway went to accelerate and it would not move just stuttered. A mack truck was speeding along luckily there was no one in the high-speed lane so he could swerve around me and beep at me i had to drive to the next exit doing 20mph in the breakdown lane and get it to my garage which was two towns over. Every time i had to stop at a light then accelerate it would stutter and only go to 20mph. The throttle light would come on then go off. I brought it to the garage and they had to order the part from far away because no place close to us had it due to high demand which leads me to believe this is an ongoing problem. I googled the problem and it seems widespread i am not sure why a recall was not issued peoples lives are at stake. I almost threw up in my car after the mack truck passed me and i realized i could of been killed. I paid $610.37 to get my car repaired so i am not sure if the expense of the part is the issue but again i could of been killed as could of a lot of others that i read about.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. The contact noticed a chemical odor emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop. The technician was unable to determine the cause of the failure; however, the odor persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the rail fuel injector needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Engine lurches and stalls after filling tank.will do so 3 or 4 times, then settle down and run.dangerous trying to enter traffic.no stall problem between fills.many people having same problem as shown here:https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t29898_ds631498
Shortly after buying the 2013 patriot, i noticed that it had a skip and was not shifting correctly. It would usually happen most of the time at take off from a still position and while going uphill, or at low speed (0 to 45mph) after taking it 3 times to the dealership because they couldn't figure it out, they finally sent it out of town to be checked, and low and behold they had to replace the whole transmission... With less than 10,000 mi!!!! and no its still no its working correctly, it still skips on occasion and usually at take off from a still position. Do not buy a jeep! i never will again, and am worried for the future since i don't have the money to buy a different car. Also my brakes squeak, and have since the day i bought it, i believe they are defective as well. But the most concerning is the transmissions defiantly are defective and all patriot owners i have spoke to have had the same problems, yet no recall! i guess someone will have to get hurt or worse first!
Cvt transmission overheating failure at 70 to 75 mph on highway, car shut down without warning and i was forced to pull off to shoulder. If no shoulder potential fatality could have occurredfrom high speed trucks or cars unable to slow down thus crashing into rear of car.this situation has occurred with numerous patriots documented on the internet, as well as mine.chrysler refuses to correct the problem by a recall.
The transmission overheats and looses power.it will make a high pitched whining noise and then the overheating light comes on and the vehicle looses power.very scary in 4 lanes of traffic.has happened at least 20 times since june 2015 when i purchased the vehicle.has been to two different jeep dealerships that can find nothing wrong with it.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. The contact stated while driving 75 mph, when temperature gauge began to rise and an unknown warning noise began to sound. The contact stated the vehicle began to decelerate speed until it seized. The contact stated he was stationed for unknown amount of time until the vehicle temperature was normal. The contact stated transmission overheated and check engine warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to local dealer prestige chrysler jeep dodge located at 6520 centennial center blvd, las vegas, nv 89149, (702) 309-8000, and was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired and experienced the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. The contact stated that while attempting to traverse a hill, the transmission failed to shift as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle started to overheat and the speed was reduced independently. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 40 mph with the accelerator pedal depressed. The vehicle was taken to an unknown mechanic that located failures codes p0777 and p0741. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage 107,000.
Jeep dealership said that the bearing went out in the transaxle which caused it to lock up.it locked up so hard that the case was cracked from the outside and all the fluid ran out of it.the dealership contacted corporate to see what they wanted to do.3 days later, they replaced the transaxle.when i wanted to get copies of the pictures the dealership took, they said "no" and they belong to corporate because it is now in an investigation.i told them that i need the pictures because this could have locked up on the interstate and killed people.when we got the paperwork from the service guy, it said that we as the customer would "delight" in the installation of a witec system.we said no such thing.i think it is a wifi tracking monitoring system.i want there to be a record of this because it seems to me that if anything did happen, that they would try to cover it up.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the transmission shifted erratically. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 14,102.
The patriot cvt transmission is faulty and subject to early transmission failure. Around 90,000 miles, my transmission began overheating. This happens while traveling on the highway going an average of 65-70mph for more than an hour, transmission overheat warning light turns on and car begins to lose power. It's necessary to pull over and wait for cooldown with car turned off for at least 10 minutes- which is extremely dangerous to do on a major highway, sometimes at night. Jeep states this shouldn't happen unless you are towing or the temperature outside is exceedingly hot. My patriot does this every time i take a trip that requires an hour or more of highway driving, regardless of temperature outside and despite the fact that i do not tow anything ever. Transmission whines loudly in the process and the car will slowly lose acceleration power right before the overheat light turns on. It's a scary experience every time. I've taken my jeep into the dealership under warranty to fix this problem, however- their solution of changing out some valves did not prove to be effective as the problem continues to happen. Interstingly enough, jeep ceased using the cvt transmission in 2014 after only 2 years- im assuming this problem has something to do with it.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. While driving 70 mph, the transmission warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to decelerate. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000. Ma 10/8 updated 11/07/2017
When driving in warmer weather (not even hot weather) the transmission fluid light comes one and the jeep powers down.the manual states to let the car idle until the light comes off. No codes are ever detected and jeep says there is nothing they can do without a code. This will happen several times during a trip and leaves patriots stranded on the side of the highway with semi's and trucks whizzing by. It is very dangerous. On jeep forums there are many, many cases of others stating the same thing has happened to them. It is a known issue with the jatco cvt transmission and nissan has a class action lawsuit. This has happened to me at least 5 times to date.
Recently my right rear control arm bolt sheered through the crossmember.i had it replaced at christian brothers and now the front is making the same noises the rear was making prior to being fixed.i saw that there had been an issue with 2012 models and earlier.i'm worried that my vehicle may also be defective.it's a 2013 that was bought in 2012. When the bolt sheered through the crossmember, i was going about 5 mph turning left in a parking lot.the right rear control arm was completely out of the crossmember.
Transmission overheats anytime the jeep is driven more than 20 to 30 mins at highway speeds. On a 2 hour drive, it can overheat as many as 4 times. It is consistently reproducible and happens every time, winter or summer. Jeep goes into limp mode, greatly reducing power available to safely move to the shoulder. This is a safety hazard as on more than one occasion, it was difficult to get over in high traffic. One one occasion the jeep died, loss of all power in the center lane of a 3 lane, fast moving highway, requiring police assistance to stop traffic and push it to the side of the road. Most recent occurrence was 03/18/2019 while on the way to the dealership to have it looked at again. High pitched whine, then limp mode. These days i drive in the right lane to insure i can get to the shoulder if needed.
2013 jeep patriot when driven on trips of 3 to 4 hours, the transmission overheat light come on and the vehicle loses power. And slowly loses all power to move the vehicle at all. When taken to the dealer, no data was found on the computer of the incident ever occuring and the dealer acts as though they have never heard of the situation, yet in the owners manual it tells you what to do if this situation occurs? which to me means they know its a problem, which occurs repeated depending on the length of your trip. For most who only drive locally, they may never experience this because it only seems to happen on the highway after several hours of driving. We no longer drive this vehicle out of town because of that and feel forced to rent vehicles for our own safety. I dont understand why there hasnt been a recall on this issue, it is extremely unsafe and occurs only when traveling in high speed situation on expressways. The date i used below was the last date i was willing to risk my life driving out of town with this vehicle. There were many times before that.
Premature input shaft bearing failure in the manual transmissions.lots of issues on the web about this problem with a defective bearing that was installed by jeep. Https://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/15-engine-drivetrain/312665-input-shaft-bearing-not-clutch.htmlhttps://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/input-shaft-bearing-throw-out-bearing-1184548/
1st time: started to hear a ticking sound from under hood. Took it to one dealership, they told me to keep driving it cause they could hear it but didn't want to find it.took it to another dealership, test drove it, found it, found out bearings in transmission were bad. 2nd time: 4th gear started jumping out when driving down road. Got consistently worse, took into dealership. Dealership tore transmission apart again. Changed 3/4 gear fork, and 2 other parts in transmission.

Transmission overheats. Wipers turn on automatic. Patriot wont start sometimes. Patriot shuts off randomly. Cluster info lights come on randomly.
While driving approx. 35 mph - drivers headrest deployed and hit husband in the back of his head. Sounded like a gunshot. Headrest split.a plastic piece was broken off and it can not be repaired.
I was backing my 2013 jeep patriot into a driveway when the driver's seat headrest suddenly and quickly exploded, punching me in the side of the head. I wasn't even touching it at the time. In the 4 or so years i have owned the vehicle, i have rarely even adjusted it. This could have been deadly if i'd been driving on the freeway at the time.

Driving about 35mph. Went over a bump in the road and car accelerated a bit without touching gas pedal band brakes went out for a second.on subsequent occasions, in cold weather brakes get stuck and barely work for first couple of uses. I've seen at least one other similar complaint. I don't feel safe and feel that this vehicle endangers other drivers on the road.

Just after purchasing my jeep brand new with only 17 miles on it, around approximately 4500 miles, the brakes started making noises when depressing the brake pedal.i returned to the dealership and informed the technician about the problem, and he stated it was happening to all the vehicles that year with the specific brakes, and was a manufacture defect.then he stated there were no recalls, but all the jeeps brakes they were selling were having the same issue.i spoke to another couple that contacted jeep directly, and they had replaced the brakes, but the design wasn't different and their brakes also were making noises on their brand new jeep.currently, the breaks squeak, and have since just after owning the car. Its distracting to the driver due to the noise, and i have almost gotten into an accident due to the noise.my car has been checked almost every time i go in to the dealership, and they just keep repeating the same thing.being a brand new car, this shouldn't be happening. To this day this still is an issue, and i am at a loss as to what can be done.thru research, every jeep owner i have spoken with that has a 2013, or 2014, this is an issue.hopefully something can be done to get my jeep fixed properly.

I have had a terrible service experience.i had to wait over a month to get my 2013 jeep in for warranty service.after another two week wait, i was told all was good and to pick up my vehicle. The maintenance department assured me that the vehicle was good to go repeatedly, even after i asked them multiple times because of prior bad service. The maintenance shop failed to reconnect my vehicles front right ball joint causing a catastrophic loss of control on the road after leaving the dealer.i skidded off the road, with one tire flopping around in the wheel well uncontrollably narrowly avoiding two other vehicles on my way off the road.had this happed at a faster speed, there is a good chance the family and i could have been killed.this happened over two weeks ago and the dealership still has my vehicle.they have replaced some parts but have refused to replace damaged tires. One expects the highest of maintenance standards when taking a vehicle to a dealership, this dealership is failing horribly in maintenance standards and customer service.
Driving at 70 mph, interstate 57, near marion, illinois. Driver alerted by passing vehicle. Driver immediately pulled off the highway onto shoulder when driver saw flames coming from rear of vehicle. When stopped, all people exited vehicle. Driver and navigator immediately began trying to put out flames coming from rear hatch area. With the aid of several passing motorists, flames were nearly put out by the time the fire department arrived on scene. Police were immediately there, before fire department. Lost most of the clothing and camping equipment that were riding in the plastic storage containers in the bumper-mounted hitch carrier. When we first stopped, flames were shooting out and melting plastic body panels and plastic bumper parts, and plastic rear wiper parts, and plastic storage containers in the hitch carrier. Standing behind vehicle, flames seemed to originate from the lower right hand bumper area, and spread rapidly up and over the rear of the vehicle, smoking and melting everything plastic. Driver & navigator suffered minor burns on hands of the kind caused from various melting plastics. By some miracle, the gas tank did not explode. Damage seemed extensive but confined to rear 1/4 of vehicle. Vehicle was drivable, but deemed unsafe to move under it's own power. So up on a tow vehicle to a repair facility it went.at this writing, damage assessment/repair is taking place. Outcome unknown, but probably grim.
Over several weeks i had been smelling something burning upon exiting my patriot. Finally i noticed my rear bumper was misshapen. It was melting! my local car service shop took a look and figured out my exhaust pipe had moved and lodged into my bumper. All the heat melted the bumper. I'm honestly surprised there wasn't a fire started. The man who looked at my patriot told me this is a very common issue with jeeps.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. The contact stated that every time it rained, the driver's side floorboards became flooded with water. The vehicle was taken to quality motors (2022 w main st, independence, ks 67301) where the dealer stated that the factory should have sealed the vehicle properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a body shop where the technicians were unable to fully seal the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Vehicle went in one week ago for noises coming from the rear of the vehicle. Suspension was replaced at 51000 highway miles. Three days later noises returned and vehicle was brought back in to be looked at again. Maintenance personnel stated a possible issue with the lower control arm. Part is currently on back order, waiting to have part reached. This is my second jeep patriot that i have owned (first was a 2008 jeep patriot) and both had their control arms go around 50,000 miles. Jeep needs to look into recalling these parts because it is apparent that they are not built from quality. This makes me concerned as to what other parts are breaking down at so little mileage.

The sunroof leaks and water pours down from the front overhead lights onto the dash, into the radio and seeps into the front carpets. This happens anytime there is rain, whether the car is stationary or moving.
I can not fillthe gas tank very fast with out the pump shutting off changedall othergas filters the problem i've been told is a faulty roll over valve inside the gas tanki've been told its common with this vehicle and maybe you could open an investigation to fix the problem will cost $800 to $1300 been dealing with this for four months and have dealt with it but with winter here its a lot extreme
Approximately two weeks ago my vehicle began making a high pitched whining noise but had no other symptoms. Then, 5 days ago i felt the vehicle shutter only once. Since i did not feel it again over a period of days, i chalked it up to being sensitive and thought it could have been in between gears or something. This past saturday i took a 2 1/2 hour trip to north carolina from virginia. On the way there we stopped quite a bit and had no issues. On saturday afternoon i started back toward virginia and felt the same shutter i felt days before and the whining persisted. Since a friend of mine was following me back to virginia i decided to drive it home. An hour and a half into the drive the transmission temperature gage light came on and the vehicle suddenly slowed down on a busy highway. Luckily i made it to the side of the road before the vehicle completely shut off. I had the vehicle towed to a local dealership and so far i have been told that this is normal. I'm extremely frustrated if that is the case because that is a big safety risk and i have two small children. The last thing i need is to be stranded on the side of the road in the blazing heat (like i would have been on saturday if it weren't for my friend) with a 2 and 4 year old. After much research, i have found that i am not the only one with this issue and many people have already requested a recall to fix the issue. It also frustrates me that, at the very minimum, i will have a bill for a $90 diagnostic fee from the dealership for something that could have already been fixed by jeep.
My check engine light came on while i was driving on the highway.i took it to a mechanic and he told me it was for the catalytic converter. He then told me there was a recall for the catalytic converter for my car but i was never notified of it.
Transmission overheating, causing vehicle to stall at high speeds.
Two moths ago i was drivingom the freewaygoing out of town i been driving for onehour andhalf went the jeep stated making some noises then the speed stated dropping downthe temperature lightwent on i got scared and try to get out the freewayand the jeep shoot down. I got scared took get to the dealer theysaid nothing wrong that unsafe.i had my kidswhit me plus a hadtakenfor the clock getting delayedfive times a ready they haven'tbeenable to fix it.p.s i could have a accident if this keep happening is unsafe
Multiple times driving on the highway the cvt transmission fails and locks up. Going 70mph i suddenly lose acceleration completely and was almost rear ended by a semi. I can go about 45mph on the interstate for about a minute to find a spot to pull over. Luckily nobody was hurt and there was a place at that time to get out of the way of the semi barreling down the mountain behind me
From the time i bought my patriot, it would experience instances of slow acceleration.i took it in a couple times and they found nothing.on june 11, 2016, i had been driving around 65 mph on i-285 and experienced some hesitation.i exited 285 to i-20 and then on to surface roads.i stopped at the kroger.as i parked the stability control, throttle sensor and check engine light came on.i turned to drive to the dealership and it wouldn't accelerate.they put the pod on it and it showed bad sensor.the guy said it was possibly the throttle body. I was able to drive home but it was still doing the same thing.i brought it back on june 13 and left it with them.on june 14, they said the diagnostic showed high air flow/vacuum leak and the throttle body needed replacing.i researched online and found three other instances of the same symptoms with the same repairs.this has got to be a known issue and why hasn't chrysler done something?

The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. While driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal failed to respond, which caused the vehicle to gradually decelerate to 15 mph. The failure occurred without warning. The contact slowly drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine throttle control needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-521-9922 and stated that they had to look to see if the vehicle was under warranty. A case number was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
This vehicle dies constantly while driving. Doesnt matter the speed, 5mph or 75mph, it will die out of no where. Its incredibly dangerous, i cannot tell you how many accidents this has almost caused. It apparently is a known and frequent problem with these suv's that needs to be corrected! i've had different codes come up at different times. From crankshaft position sensor to o2 sensor to throttle body to catalytic converter. The fuel mileage is suddenly terrible out of no where as well. This is ridiculous. Everywhere i've read about people taking it to the dealership just comes out worse so i'm terrified to take it to jeep themselves!
Any type of wet weather caused the map lights to fill up with water as the vehicle then accelerated/decelerated around curves or when starting and stopping water would pour from the lights soaking the electrical components located directly beneath the lights.
The contact owns a 2013 jeep patriot. While operating the vehicle, the front passenger side window would not close and remained open. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.

On 2/11/17 i bought a 2013 certified jeep patriot from a jeep dealership in bryon, ohio.certified meant that 125 points on the jeep were checked for road worthiness tires was on the list that was inspected. On 2/18/17 while putting mud flaps on the jeep. I saw that all 4 tires which had 4,300 miles on them were crackingin the rubber in between the tire thread.these are the original firestone affinity tires that came on the jeep when new. Dealership i bought the jeep from told me to take the jeep to my local jeep dealership for repair of bad tires.( i bought the jeep 156 miles from my home) local jeep dealership said tires are the tire manufacturer's responsibility. Firestone corporate representative says it's jeep's responsibility for the replacement of tires since jeep certified that the tires checked out fine during the certification process. Firestone has stopped making this tire. I also see other complaints with these tires. Please see photos.due to safety concerns of driving at highway speeds on these tires and summer heat to be here in a couple of months. I 'm going to buy new anything but firestone tires, and the seek recourse on my costs for tires.
