On 9/23/2011, i was driving 15-20 mph when a dodge charger struck my jeep on my driverside door causing my jeep to lose control and roll completely. My side airbags did not deploy causing a concussion. I have some memory loss and back and neck injuries. My jeep rolled onto a median causing the roof to cave in from the center of the car to the passenger side during the roll over.

My 2008 jeep patriot has been in the shop a collective 18 times over 87 days. It is currently still in the shop since last week. I have had it in 9 times for the sunroof leaking and 7 times to replace electrical items that shorted out because of the leaking sunroof. It first started to have this problem after 3 months 8/2008 and 2700 miles. I am tried of the dealership asking to give them one more try for the last year and a half. They keep blowing me off.as of 1/29/10 it back in the shop again for a leaking sunroof. I talked to the service manager at the dealership and he stated that they have tried and replaced everything in the sunroof assembly and it still leaks and is ruining my electrical system, my leather seats and carpeting.i do not want this vehicle to have and electrical fire down the road with all the issues it is continuing to have. Please help!

My jeep patriot cuts off and to this date, i haven't received an answer on the cause of this problem. I purchased a new alternator and a battery and that did not solve that issue. On november 29, 2013, i drove the car from stamford, ct to bridgeport, ct. I was driving at a speed of 50 mph and all of a sudden, the car started making a noise as if something was clogged in the fuel system. The car would not drive over a speed over 15 mph.the very next day, i had the car checked and there is a computer malfunction in the fuel injection system. He stated that only a jeep dealer would be able to assist me. The second incident happened on january 14, 2014 and the car did the same exact issue with the noise (clogged) and the car began to jerk. At the time, i was in new rochelle, ny and i drove straight to advance auto located on main street. The technician assisted me and hooked the car up to the scanner and it gave me a code of p2017. I purchased some fuel injection cleaner to see if that could help me out. I drove approximately 4-5 miles and the car died. I called my insurance company to see if i can get the car towed to stamford, ct. I was told by the technician and mechanic that jeep patriot have a recall on the fuel/propulsion system. I've also had suspension issues on several occasions. It began in july of 2013. The car has poor steering and i have to constantly get wheel alignments and change the front tires. I researched online and found that the jeep patriot have a ton of safety recalls on the 2008 model. I have a scheduled tow to have the car serviced at the jeep dealer. I would like the recall issue to be honored. I have never received notification on any recalls by the manufacture. This is a major concern for me and my family. I do want to incur any injuries or fatalities. I am paying a car note on this vehicle and i feel as i've been robbed!

Please see odi #'s 10262168 and 10268295 for history.this has been an ongoing issue for approximately 5000 miles / 4 months.vehicle intermittently stalls at various speeds, no mil or codes being stored.vehicle complaint mirrors issue listed belownhtsa campaign id number: 07v291000nhtsa action number: pe07027 scheduled appointment for issue again approximately 1 month ago, at time of drop off vehicle was running fine.i was instructed by the service writer to try a higher quality of fuel such as chevron or shell, i had been using costco.after the 3rd fill-up of chevron fuel the vehicle began stalling again.i informed the dealer that i want to leave the vehicle for a few days to allow a tech to drive home in hopes that they witness the issue.while traveling on 07/05/09 i attempted to pass a slower vehicle on a 2 lane road, approximately 1/2 to 3/4 through passing the slower vehicle my vehicle began to stutter/stall, i had to slow abruptly and pull back into the lane behind the slower vehicle in order to avoid a head on collision with oncoming traffic.my wife refuses to drive the vehicle due to the threat of an accident.if the dealer is unable to diagnose and repair the issue on this attempt i will have to start a lemon law claim.

For the past two years any time it rains or snows when i get in my jeep the first time the break is touch water pours from the dome light like a waterfall stream it is staining the interior it is trashing the car i cannot get it to stop what is the worst thing

Most of the lights on the dashboard lit up upon starting one day.car seemed to run fine, though.problem did not go away over 24-hrs so booked appt. With dealer repair shop.took the dealer more than 1 week to determine the problem.then took another week+ to repair and get the part in.they determined it was the abs module and replaced it.seems okay now.car was only few months old and it was inconvenient for me to arrange transportation to work while it was in the shop.

I went to get my car repaired and they gave me thisservice bulletin 08-007-08 for a 2008 jeep patriot called jeep they told me itwas the starter them we called a local repair shop they gave me this bulletin.

I have a 2008 jeep patriot, my jeep started leaking from the map light, dome light and cargo light the water ran into my a/c unit and my cd changer, gear shift, glove compartment and all over my carpet and seats, in sept. Of 2009 after a heavy rain we were in a drought until then. I got the car back and the dealership said the leak was fixed, they said they had to connect the drain tubes.once i got my car back i noticed after another rain i had water standing in my tire well once again, after the last leak my car started stalling on take off. I was entering onto a very busy street and it stalled as i was pulling out and almost got hit by a dump truck. I once again took the jeep back to the dealer to have it fixed, they replaced the sun roof seal and the seals around the hatched, they said it was fixed.after another rain i noticed my jeep is leaking again, when i turned on the a/c water started coming out of the defrost vent and my carpet was wet, and a strong smell of mold coming out my vents with the air. I took it back into the dealership and told them about the leak, and the water and smell of mold coming out of my a/c vents.i looked over the car with the service manager and we noticed black mold growing in the head liner she also was able to smell the mold coming out of my a/c unit.i also noticed that my car was cutting out again while driving. I am very concerned about a fire or some other major electrical part going out due to the water leaks that have occured.i am also worried about safety issues concerning the car stalling; and am worried it is going to cause an accident or health issues due to the black mold.

I am the original owner of this vehicle, and a condition of low idle stalling has become progressively worse over my 8 years of ownership. The vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition, and all regular maintenance has been completed and documented. In wet or damp conditions the vehicle regularly stalls, or the idle drops below a normal operating range causing the vehicle to shudder.more recently, in wet or damp conditions, when accelerating after a stop, the vehicle begins to move before experiencing near total loss of power momentarily before rpms surge and acceleration continues.this is hazardous when attempting to cross intersections, as the stalling and limp acceleration are random and cannot be predicted.early on i had brought this issue to the dealership's attention during the warranty period but the issue could not be replicated. An independent garage also could not replicate the issue as it only occurs in wet or damp conditions.there are many documented instances of identical or similar issues with all model years of jeep patriots, though no remedy has been identified.

After fueling up, my jeep sputters and loses power to the point is almost stalls. Last night after a fuel up it stalled several times. This is terribly problematic at highway speeds. Something needs to be done about this. I have had my scheduled maintenance done, services the fuel intake, filters, pumps and throttle body. Had a tune up done and the engine is still doing this. It is a safety issue and i do not want to drive this car any longer. I fear for my safety!please advise.

My 2008 jeep patriot hesitates, sputters, and stalls a few minute after i fill it up. If i don't fill it all the way, it does not stall (and i never top-off when filling).i have started the practice of only filling 3/4 or pulling over in the gas station to let the car stall at idle before proceeding. When i first noticed the issue a few months ago, it stalled on me in traffic after leaving the fueling station. This was very dangerous. My mechanic at the dealer told me today he believes there is a bad liquid/vapor valve on the gas tank causing gas to enter an exhaust line leading to the carbon canister, and that a full gas tank replacement is needed to replace this bad valve.he also offered, that i could just continue to only fill the tank 3/4 and should be fine.at $2,000 to replaced the tank, i may need to consider having this work done by a non-chrysler shop? i found this discussion online today, and everyone is having the exact same problem as me (with some having detailed accounts of making claims with the nhtsa).please take five minutes to review. This seems like a huge safety issue, and i'm not the only one having it! https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t29898_ds631498 i'm not sure what conditions are needed to justify a recall, but i'd encourage you all to get out in front of this one. The '07 and '08 patriots seem to be systemically having this issue and a recall may be needed to save lives (just imagine all these cars stalling in traffic)?i believe i have take great care of my jeep, but never anticipated this issue, and there is no indication from a check engine light that this problem is being monitored by the system.i think i also observed the steering wheel lock when this occurred, or at least became very difficult to operate.my jeep has a manual transmission.

The throttle control light came on while driving and the car's speed dropped to zero causing me to quickly pull off the road, it would not accelerate.the mechanic found that the throttle control module/throttle body has to be replaced.this part is currently on national backorder since there are over 700 other jeep owners with this same issue.this is a dangerous malfunction since your car just dies in the middle of traffic and you could easily be in a severe accident due to the malfunction.this seems to be happening to hundreds of other jeep owners, it seems like this should be a recall for a part malfunction.

This problem first happened a few years ago when i was driving on the interstate highway at 65 mph.it was summertime and it was about 80 degrees.i had bought the vehicle used about 6 months earlier in the fall.as i was driving the engine began to make a "whining out" noise and suddenly began to lose power.a light came on the dash area and my speed suddenly dropped down to about 40 mph and i was losing power to keep up with traffic. A tractor trailer that was traveling behind me had to slam on his brakes and almost lost control from trying to avoid running into the back of the car.i pulled off the interstate and called a tow truck.after waiting a couple of hours and letting the engine cool down, i started the car back up when the tow truck driver had arrived.he told me that this type of vehicle has a problem with the transmission overheating and causes the engine to lose power until it cools.i took the car to my local jeep dealership and paid $100.00 for a diagnostic test which did not reveal any other problem other than what i had experienced.the dealership told me that the light that came on in "normal" and is explained in the operating manual.they explained that it is "normal" for this to happen and there wasnt any defect or anyway to fix it.since that time my car has done this continuously in hot weather when i am traveling on the highway.it has become dangerous for me to travel on the highway and risk breaking down on the side of the road or beingcollided with.

Right after filling the gas tank my car sputtered and stalled while driving away from the gas station

Takata recall battery light/ altinator

On any hot day in the summer or spring or winter, or a drive over 2 hours the engine transmission light comes on and the speed reduces to 40 or 35 mph immediately from highway speeds the only remedy is to pull over on the highway, when there is no place to stop i am causing continuous damage to my vehicle, and every 10 to 20 miles it happens, unless i drive 50 mph. It dangerous, and i would like a recall so that i can safely drive my car.

Whenever i use my heater it leaks a lot of water all over the drivers feet and passengers feet.also, it leaks so much that you can actually hear the water swishing from side to side behind the dash when you take a turn.this water is very hot and gives you a shocking sensation when it drips on you. The very first time i felt it drip onto me it soaked my shoe and then i eventually felt it through my shoe, while i was driving. I immediately pulled my vehicle over and jumped out of the car and removed my shoe and sock because the water was so hot that it gave me the sensation of something biting me. I thought it was fire ants inside my shoe. This is a dangerous issue. Luckily, i was in a low speed limit neighborhood to where i was able to pull over right away without causing disruption.

I bought my jeep in sept of 2010, took it for an oil change in dec,2010. Was told i needed to replace the left lower control arm, i was told the patriots were having alot of issues with that part coming out loose straight out of the factory. It makes a loud noise when i drive it. I've had multiple problems including the a/c ,check engine light is on for manifold problem ,transmission problems all within the two years that i've owned it.

Please see odi id number : 10262168 for initial report. Vehicle was inspected at dealership, unable to witness issue as expected.dealer flashed computer with latest version of software hoping issue would be resolved.drove vehicle for a couple months without issue.yesterday 05/08/09 vehicle began stuttering again, happens now at all speeds.the safety aspect is a large concern, engine stalling in heavy traffic repeatedly.i have experienced stalling as many as 8 times in 1 mile of travel. Summary of vehicle issue:manual transmission in gear, engine stutters/stalls, rpm's drop 500 before recovering, vehicle very noticeably jerks/bucks as this occurs.

I purchased a 2008 jeep patriot in april 2008. Within the first three months of owning the vehicle we began to experience a problem with the vehicle stalling while in drive. If i take my foot off the gas and coast the engine will sputter and die. I've had the vehicle in the shop 4 times now and they cannot tell me what is wrong with it nor have they fixed it. I am frustrated that the problem cannot be fixed and continues to happen. When the vehicle stalls i have to put it into park and then turn it back on. They have reset the computer and that did not help. Other than that, they tell me to decarbonize the engine and replace the spark plugs.

Vehicle intermittently stalls at highway speeds, rpm's noticeably drop approximately 500 before automatically restarting and recovering.no check engine light has come on during any experiences of this complaint.i have had this happen numerous times on 3 separate trips it doesn't occur until around 40-60 miles into trip well after vehicle is fully warmed up, vehicle will return to normal function for weeks at a time.vehicle will be going in for service on 03/23/09, i'm not confident the problem will be resolved due to intermittent habit of problem.

Water comes in through the headlamp onto the radio when braking after precipitation.

2008 jeep patriot - dome lights are leaking.if you are not paying attention to your vehicle and don't notice the water damage until it is too late you will be paying to get the water damage fix.

Whenever the vehicle is parked with the front end at even a slight incline it will not start. This occurs whether or not the gas tank is full and it's annoying. I have to shake the car in order to get gas to the fuel pump and get it to start. This has happened since the car was a week old and continues to occur.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot. When gasoline was added to the vehicle, the fuel gauge read full and within a few minutes it displayed an empty reading. He experienced the failure for more than eight months. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated they could not repair the vehicle until they received notification from the manufacturer. The contact called the manufacturer and filed report 19667705.they advised him to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not beenrepaired. The failure mileage was 29,000 and the current mileage was 42,000.

Rollover valve - every time i filled the gas tank, there was significant jerking and occasional stalling. This didn't happen if i only filled partially. Within a mile there would be jerking, and stalling has happened while idling and while driving. Not only is that a huge safety concern, but in a vehicle rollover the valve prevents gas from spilling out and starting possible fires. Luckily i was only on local streets and not a highway when i stalled, but i have read other forums where people's patriots stalled at higher speeds.the jeep dealership and other mechanics seem to know this is a common flaw with jeeps and chryslers built in the past 5-8 years. The only solution to replace the valve is to replace the entire fuel tank, which is extremely costly. This should definitely be recalled due to safety, but chrysler seems to know about this issue and has done nothing.

Each time after fueling up the vehicle, it stalls out. This has happened twice within a week of each other on a city street after leaving the gas station. The first time my foot was on the brake and the car stalled out. The next time the car was in motion and stalled. This is a frightening and commonly cited issue with patriot owners.

Right after filling the gas tank my car sputtered and stalled while driving away from the gas station

Just began happening in april 2011. Rear cargo light collecting water after heavy rains. Took it to one dealership and they were not successful at correcting the problem. Took it to another dealership where the issue as so far been corrected.

Recurrent water leak through the interior cargo area light/flashlight.the interior light is flooded with water when it is raining or when the car is washed. The water accumulates inside the light and drips to the cargo area. The rear door rubber was changed and a roof seal was repositioned. The dealer has tried to fix the water leak 3 times.i am afraid a fire or short circuit can occur, when the vehicle is in use.

My 2008 jeep patriot has only 59k miles on it.my wife was driving on the interstate and it began to make a roaring sound from the transmission.we took it to the dealership and they said the cvt transmission needed replaced.jeep will not provide any assistance and want over $4000 for a transmission replacement of a transmission that is not able to be service and (according to owners book) needs fluid changed around 120k.i researched and found multiple people that have cvt transmission failures at low mileage.jeep is even getting rid of the cvt in the new jeep patriot.this transmission is a lemon and the company should assist with replacement when it goes out early.

Started hearing a "whining" noise in the front end/engine area of the vehicle and after about 10-15 more minutes of driving, the vehicle lost all power and came to a stop. After sitting for a while, it would start back up and run just long enough to get it to a technicians shop. Technician ran some tests and found out that the cvt transmission was failing because there were metallic parts in the transmission fluid. After doing research, i found out that this is, and has been a recurring problem with this vehicle/powertrain and yet jeep does nothing about this. I am out $4000.00 because i have to replace a transmission at 80k miles!! ridiculous!! transmissions should last way longer than that and due to the fact that there are thousands of others who have had the same experience with these cvt transmissions, this was not a "fluke" occurrence.

Had transmission service completed @ 99k miles, car couldn't make it 70 miles @ 75mph to the airport. Had to pull over and wait 15 min then 'limped' 10 miles left to the airport. Had the fluid and trans checked... 'all good no problems, fluid looks really clean, just a terrible designed transmission' please recall this terrible transmission!

This car feels like the transmission is slipping, and stalls all the time when driving down the road. We have to put the car in neutral and restart the car. The 2009 model has a recall that says the power train-automatic transmission control module is defective. We feel like this is what is wrong with our vehicle and it's a 2008.

On several occasions while traveling on hwy at 75 mph transmission heats up, light on instrument panel and instantly loses power causing vehicles around me to swerve to avoid rear rending my 2008 jeep patriot. Vehicle will not accelerate making it extremely difficult to pull out of traffic.this compromised the safety of my parents children and i.took to jeep dealership and advise of incidents i was told there were no codes and would not repair my vehicle.

On thursday the 15th of june 2012, i was driving my 2008 jeep patriot. There was no hint of trouble. I stopped for a light.when the light turned green, i tried to put the jeep in first gear.the clutch pedal went straight to the floor although the gear did take sufficiently for me to move the car to safety.i called aaa and had the vehicle towed to baxter jeep chrysler, where i had purchased the vehicle in 2009..i told them that the clutch had shown no slippage or other signs of impending failure.the current mileage was 47,000.on monday, they found that the release bearing/slave cylinder had failed and that fluid had leaked from the slave cylinder into the clutch assembly, which could not be cleaned effectively. They stated that the clutch assembly itself had to be replaced along with the slave cylinder.the cost of the repair was $1338.56. In that model year,i was told that i had a lifetime warranty on the power train. The chrysler representative claimed that the slave cylinder was not covered under the warranty because it was considered part of the clutch.i disagree.although the slave cylinder subserves the clutch assembly,it is part of the power hydraulic system and should be covered by the warranty.1) chrysler is not honoring the original warranty.2) there is a serious safety design issue when the hydraulic component can leak directly into the clutch, immediately destroying its function.the failure of the clutch was sudden and unpredictable.there are several posts on internet raising identical issues about the jeep design and failure to honor the service guarantee.i am respectfully requesting redress, to include refund of the cost of the repair, and an investigation of the safety of jeeps equipped with the current manual transmission.

Suddenly car slowed to 40 miles per hour in the middle of fast rush hour traffic on southbound highway ten in chandler. Cars swerved out of way...i had no idea what was happening and could not get out of traffic for another five miles....problem could not be found until i discovered the lemon cvt (transmission) installed in certain patriots.also, less than a year later a starter fire while driving..had gone less that a mile after the car was sitting...and it was not over 85 degrees at the time in chandler. Plus car sometimes lost all power which is not good while in traffic.

Any drive over 25 miles @ 50 mph the over-heating transmission light comes on and the speed and power is dangerously reduced immediately. Remedy is to pull over on the highway and wait for it to cool so you can make it another 10 miles down the road before it happens again! even in 32 deg and below weather the transmission overheats! it's dangerous and needs to be recalled!

Summary of vehicle issue:manual transmission in gear, engine stutters/stalls, rpm's drop 500 before recovering, vehicle very noticeably jerks/bucks as this occurs.

Suddenly started having a loose clutch pedal.took it to my independent repair shop.they diagnosed a leaking slave cylinder.the brakes are still working fine but i'm having more and more trouble shifting gears.dealer says clutch is under warranty for 1year/20000km.not sure of what happens next.approximate repair cost around $1000.

I purchased a used jeep patriot with 32,952 miles on it. Previous owner had been told to replace front lower ball joints. I was told the front wheels could fall off at any time. Dealership replaced them for me along with rotors. Original tires hadto be replaced because of defective ball joints, but the new ones are already showing wear.the dealer & 2 other shops said with such low mileage it should not have this problem. After ball joints/rotors were replaced the problem was worse. Not only was a ball joint still bad but i was told that both control arms are bad and need replaced. Now, after being replaced once (now just over 33,400 miles on the jeep) i am told it is not safe to drive over about 40mph because still a wheel could fall off.

Passenger ball joint / lower control arm shot at 28,500.jeep won't take care of the problem!

Lower control arms and outer tie rods wore out 54,000 miles. Seems kind of low mileage for them to wear out under normal driving conditions. Replaced 2/7/12 for$690.15.

2008 jeep patriot front ball joint needed replaced at 46,000 miles.

I purchased a used jeep patriot with 32,952 miles on it. Previous owner had been told to replace front lower ball joints. I was told the front wheels could fall off at any time.

At 62k miles i had to replace my driver side lower control arm assembly costing me $300 and no help from chrysler or my dealership.now at 93k miles and a year and half later, i need both lower control arms replaced.the estimate for them both replaced is $715.that's over $1000 for something that chrysler knows about and does nothing to assist their customers.i purchased this car brand new, even ordered from the factory, using the discount my company has with them, we get the preferred price being a supplier for their bearings and this is the quality i get?why even put the best bearings in the world on the jeep if you use garbage to support the wheel?

Front end cross member completely rusted out and axle nuts and lug nuts frozen in place. M just total rust in front end resulting in frailer to be derivable. I was on the road and the front end wobbled and i had to have it towed home

Our vehicle had been making creaking/groaning noises for a few weeks.we took it to pepboys for it's annual inspection, when the mechanic determined that both lower ball joints were bad, along with the driver-side outer tie rod.the vehicle only had 20,058 miles at the time of inspection, and i've read multiple complaints on various websites as well as here on safercar.gov regarding these premature ball joint failures, and the related parts that have subsequently failed.i opened a case with chrysler customer care, and after having their own people inspect the vehicle, they've replaced only the passenger side ball joint and the failed tie rod.after picking up the vehicle (and paying for a portion of the repair service, which included $150 for the 'extended warranty' co-pay and a $69.95 alignment) the vehicle is still making some squeaks, indicating that the driver-side ball joint may also be failing. I guess someone has to die before a safety recall is issued, otherwise there'd already be one based on the current level of complaints.i hope that the nhtsa will take the steps required to implement a safety recall of all mk49 chassis code suspension parts (jeep patriot and compass, and dodge caliber) before the sudden failure of one of these prematurely failing ball joints causes any deaths due to wheel disconnection and loss of control.

Terrible crunchy sound. The jeep does not feel safe to drive. Loud crunch and cracking sounds when car is barely even moving and i try to turn either direction.a mechanic said the crossmember is rusted through. (he said the jeep needed to co to the junk yard)

Severe steering wheel vibration at elevated speed.front ball joints shot and cannot be serviced due to design. Replaced front left and front right lower control arms, plus 2 tires with only 11k miles.problem appears to be sudden/rapid deterioration and catastrophic failure since all 4 tires were replaced at 50k miles with zero evidence of abnormal wear and no steering issues.vehicle has not been wrecked or driven off-road.numerous jeep forums and blogs with complaints about the 2008 jeep patriot front suspension. Local jeep dealer service manager claimed never seen this issue before or replaced any lower control arms on this year, make and model.had work done at independent garage since dealer service manager was apparently not telling the truth or withholding facts.

I only have 46,000 miles on my 2008 jeep patriot and i already need both front lower ball joints replaced and the left and right tie rods. I have never done any type of off-roading in this vehicle, it's only been driven on the street. I'm am very unhappy with this, it's unacceptable to make something so cheap on a vehicle!

Severe ratting in the front end of my 2008 jeep patriot.i took it to a garage to have it looked at and they said the ball joints were bad the vehicle has 66000 miles.after reserching it online and over a 500 complaints in chat forms for the same thing i found that chrysler had a rrt 08-070 for improper torque on the lower a arm bolt. I further reserched it and found that this bolt is an mvss bolt that was incorrectly torqued. I called the dealership to confirm the rrt and the said my vin was not included.i called chrysler and got the runaround that the vehicle milage could of been the issue. There were many posts on jeep patriot.com stating they had the same problems on the same year and make models. One post stated they pulled out of the dealrship after the vehicle was repaired and the front tire fell off.my wife and grandson do alot of traveling in the vehicle and i would hate for them to be traveling and hit a pot hole and the bolt shear off because of chryslers not wanting to make a recall on the vehicle.i worked 14 years as a quality engineer in the automovtive business for a teir 2 supplier and chrysler would have no problem on making a recall on a part that was produced by our company and make us pay for it. I think there should be a recall on this issue because of the safety issue at hand with the front wheel assembly a arm bolt breaking and the assembly falling off.

In october of 2009, i noticed an odd clicking sound coming from the area of my tires. The jeep started to make louder cranking sounds and gradually became more and more difficult to steer. I was able to make the jeep to the dealership to investigate the sound. I didn't feel safe or comfortable driving the jeep in this condition.upon taking the jeep to bob boyd, a certified jeep dealer in lancaster, ohio, it was determined that the axle nut retainer was rusted away. The rust was cleaned from the axle and the nut, per the service report, and the axle nut was retorqued. The charge of this "repair" was $157.47, with no other repairs being made. I was told that if i had not brought the jeep in at the time i did, there was a possibility that the axle nut could have caused the tie rods and wheels to come apart from my vehicle while driving.at that point, the problem seemed to be gone. My husband asked if this could cause any other types of problems in the future with my steering and wheel assembly and he was told that there would be no problem.in august of 2010, i was recommended to have my tie rods replaced, as there was a noise coming from my tires again. Upon having my car taken to bob boyd again, i was told that my lower control arm and ball joint needed to be replaced. With an alignment, the total cost was $694.60 for this visit.i understand that tie rods are a wear and tear item, however, i think that the rusted axle rod is a safety issue on a vehicle that was just over a year old at the time it was found. Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem, as a rusted out part that could cause a vehicle to "come apart while driving" should be considered a safety issue.thank you.

On july 13, 2016, i took my jeep in to our local dealer for an oil change.when picking up my jeep, i was told by the service writer that they discovered the k frame (crossover in front of vehicle) was rusted through and would very soon need to be replaced.if it was not replaced, it would be a safety hazard!i am aware that chrysler extended the warranty on the 2007 jeep patriot to 10 years for this same exact problem.the 2007 and 2008 models use the same frame and design.theydid not extend the coverage for the 2008 model.this is a defective design causing a significant safety risk.i have approximately 105,000 miles on my jeep.

Failed tie rod ends and balljoints causing premature tire wear and loose steering.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot fwd.the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a routine tune -up when the dealer diagnosed that the tie rod, lower control arm and the ball joints had to be replaced.the dealer replaced only the ball joints.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the failure mileage was 41,242 and the current mileage was 62,892.

Water comes in through the headlamp onto the radio when braking after precipitation.

2008 jeep patriot leaking moon/sun roof - leaks of water from rain or condensation from map/dome lights causing a fire hazard. Water leaks and pours from front dome light onto dash and radio.

Water leaking into my front dome light and all over my stereo and dash.

Have water leaking into interior of vehicle through map/front dome light and front vehicle frame for third time since september 2009. Water pours from the map/dome light down onto front console and driver and passenger.

Water leaking under the dash which causes the gas and brake pedals to become very slippery.it is also a horrible distraction since it happens on every turn or hill.there is also a horrible clunking noise that is coming from the front end of the car that has been reported as the a arm bolts but they continue to ignore the service bulletin just because my vin # is not included in the list of cars but my make and model as well as the year is included.

During heavy rain water enters the vehicle through the roof causing leakage to occur through the maplights and front pillars.the car has been in to the shop three times - the dealer has "sealed a body seam", "reseated the windshield" and "could not duplicate" the leak however, when it was brought in, water was dripping and they did acknowledge that it was due to some kind of leak.after a lengthy talk to the service manager after the third visit, he indicated that he had never seen this before but found a "tech tip" indicating that the roof did leak.after searching the internet, it certainly seems that i am not alone with this problem.

Just began happening in april 2011. Rear cargo light collecting water after heavy rains. Took it to one dealership and they were not successful at correcting the problem. Took it to another dealership where the issue as so far been corrected.

Week after we bought the vehicle we starting hearing a popping noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Took the vehicle in they looked and said they couldn't find the problem. It was still doing it brought it back in and they put it up on the rack and then told us that the ball joints were back and needed to be replace at our cost (805.41) now we have a leak from the sunroof and i have water standing in the floorboards.

2008 jeep patriot - dome lights are leaking.if you are not paying attention to your vehicle and don't notice the water damage until it is too late you will be paying to get the water damage fix.

When turning corners, vehicle will dump water inside from the interior dome light, front and rear.this causes driver to be distracted.because of the water leaking into vehicle the headliner grows mold and mildew.not only is the musty smell terrible is causes headaches, sneezing, itchy watery eyes witch distract driver.the mold and mildew creates a bio-hazard to into that has to be in vehicle.chrysler dealer has attempted repair 11 times but vehicle still leaks.upon investigating this model of jeep apparently there are numerous complaints about water leaking inside vehicle.water also pours down onto the electronics inside and everyone knows water and electronics don't mix.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot fwd. While the vehicle was undergoing an oil change by an independent mechanic, the contact was informed that there was a hole in the subframe and the vehicle should not be driven. Bob boyd chrysler jeep ram (2810 n columbus dr, lancaster, oh 43130) was contacted by phone. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I've been informed by my mechanic that my subframe on the ground end is rotted out and will probably crack in half in less that s year. I keep replacing ball joints and control arms because the frame is so weak it is starting to bow and cause everything to become out of alignment. This car only has 75000 miles on it and never off road. Chrysler corp told me its probably time to buy s new car. This car is s major safety hazard to me and my small children. Hopefully no one gets killed or seriously injured before they see a problem.

The front and back cross members are rusting. This is the same problem that the 2007 jeep patriots and compasses were recalled for recently.

Water leak, rear dome light, rear dome light fills up with water than leaks into spare tire wheel well.fear short will occur in light.leaks every time it rains or go through a car wash. I saw water in the back of the vehicle from almost first day i bought it, but thought it came from rear hatch when i opened it.but one day isaw water dripping from the rear dome light. My 08 patriot is at the dealers now and has been there for two weeks. This is the fifth time at the dealers. Dealer has no idea where it leaks.they even took it to a body shop. The dealer said they can make it leak but don't know how to fix it.i filed a complaint with chrysler .still waiting and trying to get them to buy it back since it is still under warranty.i am passed the lemon law date in va.anything older than 18 months is to late to file a lemon law claim.*tw

The forward 'k' frame that supports the engine and lower suspension has to a point that it is no longer safe. I can use a small hammer and knock holes in it. I have never seen anything like this, but when i started looking around it appears that many other have the same issue. It appears that this was covered in a 2007 recall, but not the 2008. I reported this the day i found it while doing maintenance on my son-in-law's jeep.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot fwd. While the vehicle was being serviced for routine maintenance, the contact was informed that the front subframe was severely corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 65,980.

Water on the floor on driver's side after heavy rain. Dealership discovered a poor patch job on the firewall done at the factory which allowed water to pool on driver's side. Dealership had vehicle for a week to remove interior to dry out and repair hole.

I purchased my 2008 jeep patriot and found out it has a rotted crossmember subframe. Upon research i found out jeep knew it had this issue in high salt areas and were responsible for fixing it. I tried to get it fixed at hartley's dealership in newport maine and they said the company is no longer honoring the repair, depite the incredible safety issue this causes. The vehicle can literally break in half and kill someone yet they haven't done a full recall? they did an extended warranty for it that has expired before i was informed about it. How are they not being held responsible for the safety issues they are having in so many of their vehicles? i feel like they should be recalled.

Sunroof leaks; during a car wash or a simple rain. We have had the jeep to 2 different dealerships to be fixed.funny, there is no record of them fixing the problem, which is obvious since it's still leaking.each time we took the jeep to be "fixed" it was still under warranty.now that it's not under warranty, it's like pulling nails just to get chrysler customer service to call back and or even attempt to help.my husband is convinced that since there is no fix to the leaking problem, they just "attempted" to repair it to get it out of warranty.well, we are not done yet!!!!

Failed tie rod ends and balljoints causing premature tire wear and loose steering.

Wife drives a 2008 jeep patriot that has 38,955 miles on it and when taken in for oil change and vehicle inspection was told that the left lower ball joint was in need of replacement.cost would be close to $400.00 to replace that component.being frugal and wanting a second opinion we took the vehicle to another shop, reputable and very good, to have a look see.they confirmed that the ball joint was worn out and required replacement and was causing the alignment of the car to be out of specification.upon further inspection they also found that the right rear tow link was completely rusted out and missing which caused that wheel to be out of alignment and was providing a significantly bad wear situation for the tires.seems to us that after only driving this vehicle for less than 40,00 miles that these components should still be in working condition.after paying a little over $300.00 for these parts to be replaced, i am writing this wanting to know how to recoup this money.components that control the steering and suspension of a vehicle are vital to safe driving and if they fail catastrophic consequences may ensue.chrysler jeep should feel responsible and not wait on a catastrophe to occur before they do something to curb and reduce this danger.

At 58,200 miles, all highway/city driving, the right front lower ball joint on the vehicle went bad. After consulting with multiple owners of the patriot, it seems to be a widespread issue with the vehicle.

The car was on the lift for a routine oil change when my mechanic checked the tires to see if i was having any issues with the ball joints. He has another jeep patriot in the garage with problem ball joints, that car has just slightly less miles than mine does. He then called me notifying me that ball joints were bad, one he considered dangerously bad and he would not allow me to drive the car home. He has since replaced the severely damaged one, but was unable to replace the other as there were no parts available to do so. This is the second suspension problem i have had with this car. I had to have tie rods replaced at 15000 miles ( covered by warranty). I do not use the vehicle off road and i am rigorous about keeping up with all scheduled maintenance. I spoke with the dealer and was given the run around, so i called chrysler and am waiting to hear back from them. My mechanic feels that this is something that should absolutely not have to repaired at this stage, given the mileage and the condition of the vehicle. Due to this issue i have some pretty serious wear on tires i just replaced in september of last year.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, she heard a popping noise from the passenger's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that both bottom ball joints would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 48,000.

Had to replaceboth left and right front lower control arms and ball joints at 57000miles. And had to have it lined up again. Total cost 980.00 there needs to be a recall.

Lower control arms and outer tie rods wore out 54,000 miles. Seems kind of low mileage for them to wear out under normal driving conditions. Replaced 2/7/12 for$690.15.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot. The contact stated the rear end of the vehicle began to exhibit an abnormal creaking noise. Soon after, the front end of the vehicle began exhibiting the same noise. The dealer replaced the tie rods, control arms and performed an alignment. The failure did not persist however; the rear shocks began to squeak. There were no further repairs to the vehicle. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 35,500 and the current was 35,750.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot sport. The contact stated that both lower ball joints failed. While driving 25 mph, the lower ball joints began exhibiting a popping sound and caused the alignment to wear the tires prematurely. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who inspected the vehicle and advised that the lower balls joints needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who stated that there were no recalls for the failure and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 86,000.

2008 jeep patriot.bad ball joints and tie rods.i drive my vehicle on the highway and city roads only.no off roading at all.i recently purchased my vehicle after leasing it for almost 3 years.at 40k, just 4000 miles out of the 3/36 warranty, the ball joint on my driver side needs to be replaced.other vehicles last 100k miles from my research, and this is a major concern for me.i have contacted chrysler and researched the web and found this to be a common complaint and issue with the jeep patriot.

Second time in a year where the front end has needed to be replaced. Spoke with other owners 2008 model year and similar complaints via website jeeppatriot.com.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot. The contact stated that he took the vehicle to a local mechanic for routine maintenance and was advised that the front ball joints were faulty . The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that rear wheel bearing was corroded. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 36,500.

My 2008 jeep patriot just turned 39000 miles and developed a popping/creaking in the front end that gets progressively worse day-to-day.it appears to be the ball-joints. After a bit of research, it seems this is a common issue with the patriots, and is a huge safety concern, especially with winter coming.being a low-income single dad, i simply cannot afford to pay the ridiculous cost to fix a problem that was the direct result of chrysler trying to save money by using cheap parts.

Less that 3 yrs old and just over 44,000 miles, my 2008 jeep patriot's front bearings & ball joints are bad.i have not driven this vehicle hard by any means, mostly highway miles.i was told by the dealership that i could loose a wheel just by hitting one bad pothole.this is a very serious safety concern for me & my children, especially since we travel at over 55mph most of the time.

2008 jeep patriot front ball joint needed replaced at 46,000 miles.

I purchased a 2008 jeep patriot new in 2008.in 2011 with 28,916 miles on the vehicle the ball joints had to be replaced. Because the ball joint were permanently attached to the control arms, they had to be replaced as a single unit.the tires on the vehicle were worn through to the steel belts due to rubbing from the bad ball joints.if i hadn't felt the change in my vehicle, i might well have had an accident from a front end blowout, or from one or both of the ball joints failing while i was driving.the mechanic who fixed the vehicle and the jeep service manager that i spoke to said that there is no way the ball joints should have needed replacement with that low mileage on them.the service manager checked for recalls and said that there weren't any.the mechanic even gave me the old parts to prove that the repair was definitely needed, and in case there was a recall in the future.

I have a 2008 jeep patriot with less than 50,000 miles and this spring i've had to replace two cracked/faulty tpms units - at separate times.both incidents were discovered due to low psi, a leaky valve stem and flat tires. Any single repair could be written off as coincidence, but two out of four tires is disconcerting.

It was driving fine now my jeep doesnt have reverse and it only goes forward but slowly. My jeep only has 40000 miles on it, why has the transmission broken so fast.

Air condition lacks hose. Water drips directly on the frame. Frame is very rusted. Chrysler dealer and local repair shop advised the engine could drop out if not repaired immediately. Called chrysler giver claim 297-76-309,now denied. Recall on 2007 model but not 2008 for same problem. Cannot drive, need new sub frame.very expensive.please help, others may not know of danger.,

I was driving on the highway and the car began to shake, so i took it to a jeep mechanic. The front and rear crossmembers are rotted to hell on my 2008 jeep patriot. I have taken it to multiple jeep dealerships that have recommended it be replaced, and jeep would not cover it because they said it had to be even worse. Now i believe my warranty is expired and it looks as if it is going to crumble any day now. I really wish jeep would have just did the right thing and swapped it out. It really makes me nervous and i am going to most likely have it replaced out of my pocket just to rest assured. It only has 93,000 miles on it, i have never seen a car fall apart so fast.

Cruise control won't turn on, when it does and is set it may turn off by itself causing rapid deceleration ar high speeds. Took it to the dealership when i bought the car 2-3 times (once over night) and it was never fixed.

Front end cross member completely rusted out and axle nuts and lug nuts frozen in place. M just total rust in front end resulting in frailer to be derivable. I was on the road and the front end wobbled and i had to have it towed home

The contact owns a 2008 jeep patriot fwd. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle in for regular maintenance, he was advised that the the tire pressure sensor was corroded and caused the valve stem to fracture. The vehicle was repaired for the tire pressure sensor and the valve stem. The manufacturer was contacted and a claim was filed. The failure and current mileages were approximately 67,400.
