My air bags failed to deploy during front end accident in which both driver and passenger were injured. Also rear passenger safety belt did not lock and caused child in booster seat to hit the back of front passenger seat. Child had face and eye injuries.

I was driving on a public road doing approximately 25 miles per hour when another vehicle made an illegal left turn in front of my vehicle.i hit him straight on and neither the driver's airbag or the passenger airbags deployed.i drive a 2001 jeep grand cherokee.i sustained severe spinal injury that required a surgery and the possibilty of future surgery to other discs.

Vehicle battery in 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo was changed 3 times in the span of 9 months due to battery loosing power. In june 2005, the 4th battery in the vehicle lost power. Purchased new diehard suv battery and installed. On nov. 8, 2005, the vehicles electrical system caught fire causing the battery to explode and cause over $4,000 in damages. Wife fears for her life and life of 2 y/o and 6 y/o who are transported in vehicle to babysitter and school on a daily basis.

Lft rear dor by another driver in pkg lot.

From day of purchase, heard loud creaking under the dash.assumed vents were opening/closing.eventually cold air began to blow from the right vents.i contacted the dealer and was advised that the blend door actuator probably needed replacing at a cost of $1500.they said bring it on, we have two here now with the same problem.

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo has been shutting off while i am driving and also sometimes it doesn't start properly.my mechanic doesn't know what is wrong with it.this is the second time he is looking at it.this has been going on for approximately three months.what really concerns me though is that it is just shutting off while i am driving.this defect may cause a serious accident while i am in traffic.i am scared to drive it cause it is happening everytime i drive it now.i did find out on the internet that there are other complaints out there and that the problem might be the front control module.i have called chrysler to find out if that is really the problem.no one knows anything about this complaint at chrysler.i just want answers so that i can get it fixed.i am really worried that i will be in an accident.

For the past year my 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo limited has been overheating if we idle for more than 1-2 minutes. As long as the rpms don't go over 2000 it will happen. I went on a trip last may up a canyon. Drove about 50 miles to the canyon and all was fine. While going up the canyon speeds stayed below 20 mph because we were following my in-laws and there was quite a bit of dust the ac was off i didn't notice that the temperature gage was raising. When i noticed it, i guess it was too late. I stopped the jeep and hoped that it would cool down. As i lifted the hood. The top popped of the coolant reservoir and sprayed coolant everywhere. I was able to get home without any problem because i was going fast again. I put more coolant in it and it still overheats at drive-thru's and in rush hour traffic. I have to turn it off. In fact when i got it registered they left the jeep running and the cooling system reservoir top popped off then. They told me to be careful and add coolant asap. I thought it was just me, but looking and all the other problems i realize that this is serious. The electrical is also shoddy. I thinks it's because the coolant has leaked all over the wires. My main complaint is the cooling though. You shouldn't have to worry about your car overheating in slow//stopped traffic.

The low coolant light comes on and depending on the outside temperate the vehicle will either overheat, have no heat or provide a/c cooling only while driving and not while sitting idle.i've had repairs and coolant flushes.the repairs last one week and then the low coolant light comes on again and the issues start all over again.

Multiple failures with my 2001 jeep grand cherokee just beyond the 3/36 warranty.the vehicle now has 55,000 miles:1. Vehicle required a complete front brake overhaul: new pads, rotors, calipers.also,. Hood props failed; 3. Water pump failed, window regulator failed, and rear hatch props beginning to failthese incidents all occurred between 36,000 and 55,000 miles (2004-2005).eep takes no responsibility for anything beyond 36,000 miles.they offer extremely poor customer service at the corporate office.i strongly recommed against purchasing jeep products.

Jeep heating ,tookvehicle to the mechanic, and he said that the cooling fan was broken/frozen.the mechanic said there was a recall on jeep cooling fans for my year of jeep.i called the local dealer plus daimler-chrysler, but they said the recall was for 4.1l engines and my engine was a 4.7l.obviously, chryssler/daimler has a problem with the cooling fans on these jeeps, but i didn't understand why my jeep wasn't included in the recall.the mechanic had the nhtsa recall bullentin.because of the heating problem, along with a safety issue, we had to pay to have the repair work done,$1206.86.the part alone was over $900.00 - the old part was currently available.

Engine over-heats when vehicle is sitting still and idling. The fan doesn't start when the temperature rises. This leads to excessive heat buildup and possible engine damage. The fan motor is being replaced for the second time and the control module for the third time. I have been told that the fan motor is drawing too much amperage. This is the third time thishas happenedin the past year.

Contact states:"fan burnout" also experiencing brake and water pump leakage.these problems occur only while driving long distances.already repaired the fan out of pocket.has yet to fix water pump leak or brake issue, a recurring problem .

2001 jeep grand cherokee. Leaking coolant. Replaced water pump and hoses. Continued to leak, oil pressure drops at idle and recently coolant has been found mixed with the oil. The head is cracked and allowing coolant to mix with the oil. Seems to be a common problem in jeep heads cast around 2000.

The contact owns a 2004 jeep cherokee laredo. The current mileage was 138,131 miles. The contact stated that his vehicle stalled and he was able to restart it. The check engine light was illuminated before the vehicle stalled. An independent mechanic stated that the crankshaft position sensor malfunctioned. The jeep dealer stated that there the transmission caused the stalling. The purchase date was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 138,120 and the current mileage was 138,131.

Air cond. And heater doesn't work properly air is blowing out through the top.

The rear hatch, door and glass, will not open. It began selectively unlocking and now no components work. The only way to access it is by remote keyless entry and it no longer operates. I also cannot repair my tail lights due to it not opening.

Passenger brake light does not work after even replacing several bulks.this has been, and is still a problem, for the last 2 years.my daughter has been stopped may times because of this defective brake light.

When i am filling the gas tank, it continuallly cuts off and spits back gas. Also the blinkers only work intermittingly.these two problems are on the internet. It seems to be a common problem with this car model.

The back doors of my 2001 grand jeep cherokee l will not open!

The rear hatch, door and glass, will not open. It began selectively unlocking and now no components work. The only way to access it is by remote keyless entry and it no longer operates. I also cannot repair my tail lights due to it not opening.

My 2001 jeep accelerates when stopping and has a slow take off when accelerating.i stopped at a traffic light when applying the brakes the jeep accelerated.i had to again apply the brakes.i never know when it is going to stop.the transmission light has come on and a gas cap was replaced when this first happened but now the accelerations have started again.i am afraid to drive the car close to any other car because i don't know if the jeep will just take off.also, the shift gear slips easily i have to be careful about touching the shift while driving. Has any other complaints been filed concerning the accelerations when stopping in the 2001 jeep grand cherokees?

While driving vehicle there is a knocking in the floor board.consumer states that the drive shaft may fall out. Please provide any further information. Ts

We have a 2001 jeep laredo and the left rear axle seals and bearings have gone out twice. Bearings start making noise at around 35 mph. The seals failed and caused oil to get on the emergency brake lining causing emergency brake to be ineffective. The first time this went out the vehicle had approx. 75,000 mi. The vehicle has the same problem again at approx. 82,000 mi. This has cost $1100.00 to fix the first time and is at the dealer now for the second repair which will cost at least $1500.00 to repair bearings and emergency brake and/or linings.

The vehicle moved while in park.the vehicle also jumped forwardunexpectedly.the dealer has been contacted.

Blend door failure on my '01 jeep grand cherokee limited and transmission failure after 79000 miles resulting in thousands of dollars of repairs. Have been complaining about transmission since i got the new car and jeep kept saying "it was normal" they even had a period of time when they extended the powertrain warranty to 100,000 miles which my car missed by 65 days. I also see too many blend door issues that jeep needs to address vs. Me paying $850.00 for.

I was backing my car out of my garage when i realized that i forgot something.i went to put the car in park and it was still moving forward.i tried to put it in reverse and it continued to move forward.after trying to put in different gears, i realized that it was not going to go into any gear.i was forced to turn off the engine and put the parking break on.fortunately, i was not on a hill since the car would not go into park.since it would not go into gear, the car's safety feature kicked in and would not allow me to re-start it.i had to have it towed to a garage and it was determined that the gear shift cable had broken.the charge was $200.00, which included the towing.my car has 69,000 miles on it, but it is mostly highway miles.i am not hard on this car and no one else drives it.i have never heard of this happening to a car of this age.in fact, no one i know has ever heard of this happening to any car.i feel this part must have been defective.the mechanic said "it just broke".i asked if it looked like something could have happened, like a foreign object breaking it.he said "no".had i been in a situation where i was on a steep hill i would have been very concerned about whether or not the parking break alone would have held since i could not get it to go into park or any other gear to move it.what would i have done?i believe this could be a dangerous situation if in the wrong place at the wrong time.the part was replaced and seems to be working fine.i do not have the old part.

Front drivers side seat belt does not retract properly.no tension on the belt and it hangs loose.the vehicle is a 2001 model and this safety product should last much longer than 2 years.

My air bags failed to deploy during front end accident in which both driver and passenger were injured. Also rear passenger safety belt did not lock and caused child in booster seat to hit the back of front passenger seat. Child had face and eye injuries.

The seat of my 2001 jeep grand cherokee broke right off the floor. I can now lift the seat right out of the vehicle. This is not a safe situation.

I started noticing that the driver's side seat felt like it was tipping.i also noticed a noise and movement when i got into the seat or turned a corner while driving.i removed the driver's side seat assembly and found that the left front mounting point had broken away from the floor mounted tracks.i removed the tracks from the seat frame and found where a wedge shaped piece of the seat frame had broken away at the mounting hole allowing the seat to rock.ifound numerous cracks in the seat frame radiating out from that same mounting hole.i also found a crack the top of the seat frame possibly caused during the manufacturing process.to repair the failure i welded the wedge shaped piece back to the frame.i also welded the cracks radiating out from that mounting hole.i noticed that the mounting holes at all four points were much larger than the mounting studs on the floor mounted tracks.i also noticed that the flared nuts used to mount the frame to the tracks didn't seem wide enough to adequately cover holes and provide the support needed to prevent failure. I remounted the frame on the tracks using large washers under the original flared nuts to spread the stress over more of the frame surface.during the original inspection i found that the other front mounting point had started to distort around the nut.i flattened that back to its original shape with a hammer.my concern would be that if that other mounting point had failed during a rear end collision it could have allowed the seat to pitch back or become completely detached from the floor mounted tracks with resulting injuries.if it had become detached during normal operation it could have caused loss of control of the vehicle.

2. Bracket on driver's seat broke unexpectedly causing driver instability and hindering safety.3. Body shop will attempt to weld bracket (cost estimate $150); however, we are unsure if this will remedy the problem.

My 2001 jeep cherokee laredo front driver seat broke.it is extremely dangerous i have been trying to replace the seat and have been unable to find one.i was driving when the seat broke luckily i had both hands on the steering wheel tightly and sitting completely straight or i probably would have lost control of my car.it is so widespread that several different body shops and junk yards have told me they break so other they never can get one intact.i have looked for oem parts which is my first choice and have found this item not available it. The bracket under the seat is not very supportive and seems to be very poorly made(thin metal) i am not a mechanic but i grew up around several.i am still hoping to not have to give my jeep up because i can't find a seat.we also own a 1998 jeep cherokee limited and we have not had anywhere near the problems as we have had with the 2001 i seriously think the 2001-2003 were made poorly and jeep needs to step up and accept it and recall the problem items.i have already had headlamp, tail light and the gas tank recalls corrected on my jeep but next to the gas tanks blowing up in rear end collisions this is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. I have also by a private repair shop had the "jeep death wobble corrected" which i had not heard about until another person at the shop who had the same year jeep said i had this fixed about a year ago and he said if i really wanted to know how bad it was to google it after i did i didn't even want to drive my jeep.i love my jeep for many of its qualities but if i could afford to i would go get a different year jeep.i did not know this site was here until my brother told me so i wonder how many others are out there with the same problems and have not reported it.i am glad it is here i will definitely research my next vehicle on this site, unfortunately i am disabled

Driver's seat where it mounts to the movable rails is broken.repeated calls to various used part dealers shows that there is a problem with this.apparently at around 60,000 miles or so the seat breaks.this is a safety problem in that the seat can come loose during normal driving, or during an accident causing loss of control, serious injury, or death.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep laredo. The contact stated the passengers heated seats would work intermittently and the drivers seat became inoperative. The dealer and manufacturer werenotified of the failure; however, nhtsa campaign id number: 09v117000 (seats:front assembly:seat heater/cooler) did not include her year, make and model vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 100,050.

Drivers seat on 2001 jeep grand cherokee the base has broken and no response from dealer or chrysler. There are no replacements for these seats i have looked for months. When i called the dealer he quoted almost 800 to repair if they could find the parts.

The contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo.while proceeding to stop at a traffic light and depressing the brake pedal, the seat component collapsed into the rear of the vehicle.the contact was able to hold onto the steering wheel in order to prevent a crash.upon further inspection, it was found that the seat component detached from the entire frame.the dealer stated that the repairs would cost $636 for repairs and that the failure was very common for his particular year, make, and model vehicle.he also attempted to locate the needed parts from a salvage yard and was informed numerous times that the parts was so widely needed that they could not keep them in stock.the manufacturer stated that nothing could be done.the failure and current mileages were 171,000.

Driver's seat was too loose and moved back and forthwhile driving, causing a distraction to the consumer. Dealership was notified.

Driver side seat frame separated from slide mechanism at the hex bolt.appears to be very thin metal.

I own a 2001 grand cherokee jeep laredo 4x4. The problem is with the eight way seat. The hinged actuator that the seat is mounted to has fractured causing the seat to become unstable. I performed tests that revealed cracks in the welds and in the component parts themselves. I have been in contact with jeep and they say there is no problems with that model and the seats. They will not replace the part because the feel its not a safety issue.

While applying the brake pedal vehicle failed to stop completely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced, and replaced them twice. However, the problem recurred.

Heavily pulsating brakes with light to medium pressure on brakes. Defect is apparently caused by daimlerchrysler using defective calipers on front disc brake system.serious safety problem.

Multiple failures with my 2001 jeep grand cherokee just beyond the 3/36 warranty.the vehicle now has 55,000 miles:1. Frontend of vehicle shimmies when brakes are applied, steering of vehicle is impaired. Dealership states that the brakes are a design flaw and are "recommended to be replaced but not recalled" . Cost of replacement is $800.00 for new brakes system package from jeep/chrysler. Also steel brake lines are rusted/rotted.

I've been having continuing problems with the brakes and rotors on my 2001 jeepcherokee which i purchased new. The rotors have been replaced 3 times during 2002/2003 and now the problem has surfaced agin. Chrysler will not take care of the problem because it is out of warranty but this problem has existed all along and the dealership that repaired my vehicle even stated to me that this is an normal problem with jeeps. The cars shakes and rattles when the brakes are applied and i'm afraid that this could lead to a serious problem on the road.

Dt*:the contact stated while applying brake pressure at 40 mph or more there was vibration and pulsation in the brake pedal.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection.the dealer replaced the brake rotors/pads, and instructed the contact on how to brake properly.afterwards, the problem recurred, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, whoreplaced the rotors.however, the problem returned, andthe vehicle was seen by a dealer for another replacement of the rotors.but the problem persisted.the vehicle was seen by a different dealer, who determined the brakes needed to be replaced, and replaced them.nonetheless, the problem recurred.

Brake rotors warped. Three times within a four year period with only 31,000 miles. Rotors were replaced within the first year by dealer and the other two times have been my cost. Chrysler refuses take make it right because it appears to only affect 3-4% of their jeeps according to the service tech.

When braking at speeds of approximately 30-35 mph and above, there is a very noticeable pulsating, shaking sensation from the front end.i first noticed this at about 12,000 miles.chrysler replaced the front brake pads, calipers, and rotors with an upgrade kit--a kit specifically assembled for this problem.the service rep at the chrysler dealership told me that this has been a problem because as the jeeps had become larger and heavier, the braking system had not been redesigned to handle the added weight.the upgrade kit worked a little longer than the original parts, but now at 29,000 miles--only 17,000 miles later--i am experiencing the same failure again.the chrysler dealership has verified that the rotors are warped again and need to be turned or replaced yet one more time.in talking with the service reps at chrysler, i have basically been told that i can look forward to this failure of my brake system approximately every 15,000 miles.correct me if i am wrong, but aren'tbrakes a fairly crucial component of any vehicle?so much in fact that they are not offered as an option--they come standard on every vehicle.

The2001 jeep, which has 56,000 miles has had the front rotors replaced three times, and the calipers once.the service technicianagreed that there wa s something wrong, but they hinted about our driving habits.you know this can happen when you drive a lot in the mountains. We purchased it in denver, close to the mountains.however we live on the eastern plains, and we have never towed anything, but we have the towing package.this last time we had the front rotors replaced, and it turns out that the pads were finally wore on the rear.it is amazing that the life of the pads is three times that rotor.i know that brakes are wearable items, but replacing the rotors before the pads is like buying three sets of wheels before the tires wear out.i called daimler chrysler, and i simply wanted some advice, but the lady hung up on me.i called back and finally got someone to document some items.my wife and i have paid over $1,500 out of our pocket, and the service technician said, without hesitation, that this will happen again.he wouldn't document anything for us.all i want to do is fix the problem so it won't happen again.what can our family do?

Faulty braking systems, a constant warping of rotors front and rear. The rotors warp so bad that it is hard to control vehicle. When braking.

I hear a honking noise and feel vibrations when making slow left hand turns (ex. Parking).the slower and tighter the turn, the louder the noise and the more vibration.i brought the vehicle to the dealer at least 4 times for this problem and was told there was nothing they could do about it.

I was on the intersection and i turn to the left, then i press the accelerator, my car slide and i was trying to manipulated but i could not and my car rollover. My car is total loss because the roof is total damage. My car is a jeep grand cherokee laredo.

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited, at approximately 58,000 miles the hvac system won't direct the air to the correct area when asked to do so.when taken to the dealer they tell me it will cost $1,500 to repair.from what i understand this is a very common situation with these vehicles.i live in central ohio and it get very cold in the winter and when you can't get heat to come out of the floor or dash vents or the defroster to keep the window clear while driving it becomes a safety hazard. I'll put the date down when it started happening and it hasn't been resolved since.

The dual climate control is no longer working causing problems on fogging up windows in particular weather making it very difficult to drive. From my understanding this is a common problem on the car and cost over $1000 to fix the blend doors... Not sure what blend doors are... But apparently they are broken.

2001, jeep grand cherokee larado, blend door failures of heater system.failure resulted in no heat or defrost situation during inclement weather forcing driver to stop along motorway.vehicle inspected and discovered the heater system "blend doors" failed.not sure when the passenger side failed, however the driver side resulted in the vehicle now not being driven during inclement weather.repair quotes have been extensive and beyond for what appears to be serious and widespread safety issue with jeeps utilizing this heating systemat this time vehicle is not driven during inclement weather as repairs are too expensive for me to absorb at this time.failure to defrost windshield leads to a serious drivable problem from fogging windows.

Blend doors drivers & passenger. Replaced blower motor twice.

2001 jeep grand cherokee limited. Passenger blend door has broken blowing cold air only with heat on high. Numerous internet posting on similar issue costing 800 - 1200.00!

My heater in my 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited has been supposedly fixed 5x and it has never operated properly.first no air at all would come thru the vents then it blew only cold air out no matter what the setting was and now it won't blow heat out.mechanics are puzzled as to why it wont operate properly some say its the sensor some say its the thermostat or the computer chip hasnt reset itself.they keep trying to fixit yet it has never ran properly with the dual climate control.i am passed my warranty coverage date.i do not feel i should have to keep dishing out money time and again for the same thing. With as many times it has supposedly been fixed it should be all new parts in there for the heat/ac components to work!!!

Air cond. And heater doesn't work properly air is blowing out through the top.

First there was only heat on driver side, now neither side is even blowing anything. Went from bad to worse.

No hot heat or defrost on passenger side of 2001 gc ltdhad extended warantee had to pay 300deducable.

2001 jeep grand cherokee limited.heater on passenger side completely stopped working after about 60,000 miles.just ran into another jeep owner with same problem.

A/c does not work, always cold air without heat. It happened during warranty period, it had creep sound, but it went to bad after warranty.

I am in the ever growing list of hvac blend door malfunction. Now i will be the only one traveling in my jeep. As i investigate it looks like we will be spending up-to $1200 for this repair.

Azc does not function.chrysler certified auto repair shop says the azc needs to be replaced.big $$$$ for a common issue.

Visibility:power window divices and controls 2001 jeep grande cherokee.between spring 2006 passenger side window dropped during the night leaving my car open and exposed to weather.window would not go up and since we were out of town we had to duct tape all around to drive 300 miles home.$450 to repair.4 months later went for a swim and when i returned to my car the driver side window had dropped and would not go up.car has ~70,000 miles and thought this to be quite unusual so did some research on the web and found out that this is a frequent occurrence with this model.one gentleman had received reimbursement from chrysler so i thought i would give it a try.after several hours on the phone with chrysler they agreed to reimburse so i mailed in both receipts equally ~$800 minus a $50 deductible.they called and told me that they had agreed to only pay for the most recent.i guess i should be thankful that i got something but i am not.if they acknowledge that this is a frequent occurrence why would they only pay for the one.i am just waiting for the next to drop. There should be automatic reimbursement for this repair on this model.

Dt*: the contact stated the window regulator was mounted into the frame with a plastic part that failed on four separate occasions. The manufacturer authorized the service dealer to replace the defective part on the front left window. The plastic part had failed on the left rear window, front right window and a second time on the front left window.

Driver and passenger power window assemble broke with 3 months of each other. The vehicle is not even 5 years old yet. Shows poor manufacturing quality.
