The contact owns a 2000 jeep laredo.while the contact was attempting to turn his vehicle, another vehicle driving approximately 60 mph crashed into him head-on.the contact's vehicle was completely destroyed and none of the air bags deployed.there were no injuries.the cause of the failure has not yet been determined.the contact has a copy of the police report and pictures of the failed incident.the vin and speed were unknown.the failure and current mileages were 300,000.

Consumer states while driving 45 mph loss control of vehicle and front right hit a utility pole and air bag did not deploy.

At 7:20 this morning when i started the jeep, the headlights and taillights and dash lights did not work.the high beams worked only while i held the switch on.they wouldn't stay on.turn indicators worked.drove son to school and came home.took jeep manual inside to look up fuses.discovered there are separate fuses for left and right so i doubted it was the fuse.decided i would have to take the jeep to the dealer.when i went back to the garage about 7:35, the lights were on (i had left the switch on by mistake, and the lights on alarm didn't sound when i left the car).now when i opened the car door, the lights on alarm bell rang.i turned off the lights and turned them on again.i turned on the high beams.everything was working normal.called the dealer and they said they really can't do anything as long as everything is working.surely this has happened to somebody else.i don't want to be driving back from the airport some night and have the lights go out.

The rubber molding around all of the windows (excluding the windshield) has failed to remain in place. The actuator in two of the doors has failed.

Seat not good, rear both axles

The contact owns a 2000 jeep laredo.the contact noticed that the dial on the temperature gauge displayed excessive overheating.she took her vehicle to a local repair shop and the mechanic replaced the relay (part number 5017491ab).every year since the repair, the failure has recurred and must be repaired again.the failure mileage was 88,000 and current mileage was 91,000.

Brake lights issues have changed bulbs cuircut boards new brake light switch, but still can't get brake lights to work all other lights work no issues.

Electrical system failure. Windows begin falling down simultaneously, then the vehicle begins shutting off for no apparent reason, then... Your gauges on your dash (speedometer, gas gauge, battery gauge, etc) stop working. Making you unable to tell your speed. Then your vehicle will turn over but not stay crunk. I have spoken with alot of people with jeep grand cherokee's and it has happened to all of them. All jeeps between the year models of 2000 through 2002.

While driving at any speed, thesignal lights worked intermittently and the running lights did not work. The dealerexamined the vehicle and repaired the problem. The next day the problemrecurred.dealerexamined the vehicle four times.*sc

Gauges short out - no speedometer - no gas gauges, oil pressure, temp, etc - windows will not role down. - this can happen at any time - kind of scary - it lights up like a christmas tree.. My dealer has had the car 7 of the last 10 weeks - trying to fix it. I contacted je/chrysler - they said it is not their problem. Even though on the internet i found at least a 100 people with the same problem - in 2002 jeep recalled all of its cars for this exact problem.

The gauges on the dash - speedometer-gas-oil-heat, etc. Will all fail at the same time - they will go all the way to the left - and all of the warning lights will come on - but you can still drive the car - you just have no idea what eh car is doing - and the power windows do not work - the car has been to the dealership for a total of 8 weeks since aug 26 - they have yet to be able to fix it - there are a lot of write ups on the internet for this exact same problem - as a matter of fact jeep had a recall for this same problem for their 2002 model - but will not do anything to help with this - kind of scary to be driving down the road and all of the gauges go off.

Ignition switch would lock up and the key would not turn without several attempts to turn it including pulling out the key and even turning it over 2-4 times.

I own a 2000 jeep cherokee laredo and when i cold start it the oil pressure goes to a bit over 40 but after the inline 6 4.0 ltr warms up the oil pressure drops to zero andthe check gauges light goes on.i have replaced the oil pressure sending unit twice and cleaned the oil pressure sending unit mounting nut and it has not affected the oil pressure.i have kept regular oil changes at 3000 miles.i am also losing engine coolant but cannot find a leak anywhere in the system.i have pressure checked the cooling system cold and it holds pressure, hot it loses pressure in about 15 minutes.this problem has been occurring for about 8 months now.i have read online that it is most likely a cracked head and appears to be a very common problem with the heads used on 99 to 01 jeep inline 6's.if it is such a common problem when it chrysler not addressing it?this is my second jeep cherokee, my first a 98, and it was a great car but that one is junk.

I called the dealer about this notice and they told me that they would not be able to help me for another 6 weeks.i thought that this was too long to get my vehicle checked out, especially with this being a manufacturers defect.

2000 jeep grand cherokee, had overheating issues.have had water pump, cooling fan, cooling fan relay replaced, still a problem.thousand of other people having the same problems.

I too brought a jeep cherokee from a used dealership in 2008, it is a 2000 4l 6i also, same issues, the week after i brought the car the engine blew, the dealer would not cover it because they sent it to their mechanic shop and of course the mechanic shop said it wasn't the dealers fault, they told me that a rock hit the fan and put a small hole in the engine... I spent close to 1200 getting the engine rebuilt. Car ran for a little while then the check coolant light kept coming on, i had to keep a bottle of coolant in my car and the coolant would run out every 2-3 weeks. Then in oct the engine blew again, my car is currently parked until i can find a low mileage engine to replace the old one. I do believe that this is a flaw in the design. Meanwhile i am still paying a car payment and having to work to get money to fix my car...ughhhh.

I have owned a 2000 jeep cherokee laredo for about 4 years now and i have had trouble with the jeep stalling while driving down the road. I have taken all the steps to getting the problem repaired, i have had a tech put it on a tester, i replaced the parts that the tech told me i needed to replace but still the jeep stalls and now it is getting worse. I have three children that ride in my jeep everyday to and most of the time from school. I am terrified that it is going to stall in traffic and my children are going to be injured or worse. If i or a technician cannot figure the problem out what are we supposed to do. In this economy people just cant go out and get a new car. And i cant continue buying parts that i don't need. I feel like chrysler should fix what ever this is because apparently it is just a way for parts stores to make money off of people.

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo.my jeephas shut off on me three times this week while i was driving. The first time my cruise was set at 65mph,it kicked off the cruise and there was no power to the vehicle.i pulled over, restarted it got back up to 65mph and it shut off again not 2 minutes later.it didn't restart again for me that morning. My fiancewent to pick up the vehicle about an hour later and he drove it home as if there was never a problem. Today (2 days later) whilecoming arounda corner in town the vehicle stall again, but the steering column locked up this time and i had to immediatelyhit the brakes stopping the jeep in the oncoming lane to avoid an off road adventure.luckily there was no other traffic, but what if there was?what if the steering column locked up while i was doing 65mph down the highway? i use to love this vehicle, but now im afraid to drive it.i can't afford to have it looked at, i just got the jeep out this afternoon because thepassenger window fell inside the door and broke.my new window isnow bolted to stay in the up position because i didn't have the extra couple hundred to replace the motor that was completely tore apart when the window came down. What's next?

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee.i have an anti-freeze leak.i have had it fixed twice.i wish i could tell you what was done but i know very little about cars.i am currently having the problem again.i went on the internet to find out what it could be but all i found was a large number of people who have sunk tons of money into fixing the problem on their 2000 jeep grand cherokees.i am currently adding anti-freeze daily.

My 2000 jeep cherokee laredo began experiencing a coolant leak and abnormally high coolant use, use that i noticed almost immediately after purchasing my vehicle used in august 2005. In december while getting the oil changed my mechanic indicated that there was a large amount of antifreeze in my oil.my mechanic suspected that there may be a problem with the head gasket or perhaps even a cracked head.when the head was removed he discovered that the entire head had been machined incorrectly.all of the holes that surround the piston chamber and allow antifreeze to flow through had been machined approximately 1/2-3/4 of an inch off center which would make it difficult/impossible for a gasket to property seal.my mechanic contacted daimler-chrysler to see if there has been any recalls to the engine and there was not. A representative that he had contact with indicated that approximately 32 of these head are replaced each week, he did not indicate whether or not that was from the same engine or from different engines manufactured by daimler chrysler.the cost to replace the head with a remanufactured head was approximately $1400.thank you for your attention to this matter.

Cooling system looses coolant. Have replaced fan relay & water pump. Still overheats.

Cooling fan is cracked on 2000 jeep grand cherokee starting to vibrate.

Dt*: the contact stated a nhtsa recall letter #06v199000 regarding engine and engine cooling:cooling system:fan was received.the vehicle was taken to a dealer who replaced the radiator fan but charged the contact for a relay switch part and labor.the dealer did not cover the parts and labor under recall, as stated in the notice received by the client.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the engine thermostat elevated without warning.a nhtsa recall, #06v199000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the engine and engine cooling:cooling system:fan, however the recall did not remedy the problem.the vehicle was inspected by the dealer who determined the relay switch for the newly updated cooling system fan needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was alerted.

I bought my wife a 2000 jeep grand cherokee, and it hasshut off while she was driving, putting her in a very dangerous situation, with no "check engine" light...nothing, low coolant light came on when there is coolant already in the car, check gauges light keep coming on, heater doesn't heat well, the passenger side power door lock does not work, i've replaced the thermostat and the water pump once. And i've had an issue with the vehicle overheating and the fan not coming on and had it replaced.i do believe there is something wrong with the jeep cherokee especially the 2000 model and think it should be recalled.i looked on the internet for blogs to see if anyone else was having the same problems and found there were well over 100 people on one website with the same exact problems.i think this is a dangerous situation for those that own this vehicle and i am asking you to please recall this vehicle before it causes serious accidents or even death.please don't ignore this complaint, and i hope to hear from you soon concerning this matter.you should not even have "number of deaths" listed, but if you be honest and take care of the problems, there would not be any deaths.

The vehicle was completely destroyed by an engine fire prior to the recall on intake and exhaust manifold that results in under hood fire.*scc

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee purchased in 2002 i believe.i have been reading a lot of forum about owners with same car having the same issue.apparently the power lock go bad after a few years, also the left tail light seem to have some burn out issues preventing the lights from working properly.another issue is the front tweeter speaks are often blown.in my case both my rear door power lock actuators went bad at the same time.i have 3 kids and have to get out my car and open the rear during by placing my hand through the front passenger side.the other rear door will not close using the power locking feature on the key.next my car can't pass inspection because the taillight is out. It works fine at times but when i step on the breaks it causes all the lights to go out.the problem occurs on and off.i have replaced the bulbs many times.after reviewing some forum and going to a mechanic i was told my left tail light has a short in it.i will need a new one.next my front speakers have blown.the cost for each part not including labor door lock actuators--$98taillight-- $171tweeter -- $68.86 apieceat first i thought i was the only one with this problem.then i check on some jeep forums and found out a lot of people are having the same issues.about 144 complaints.http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_33943.htmlhttp://www.carsurvey.org/viewmorecomments_review_33943_3.htmlhttp://www.carsurvey.org/viewmorecomments_review_33943_5.html.

Front brake rotors warped and were replaced, 11400 miles later, brake began to shutter and consumer was informed that brakes needed replaced again, consumer was told that jeep uses a softer metal that did not last, consumer also states that there is water leaking on the passenger side floor from underneath the dash when air condition is on, dealer ordered an insulator for the evaporator.

The back tail lights don't work on my 2000 laredo jeep.

N/a updated 01/07/08. *ljthe consumer stated the headlight surface had deteriorated causing a film which, muffled the amount of light through. The manufacturer was aware of the problem but only offered a solution that the consumer would have to pay for. Updated 12/12/07

I have received numerous summons for faulty taillights. I had the lights replaced twice.the back brakelights are out totally.the nypd seems to familiar with these cases in the 2000 jeeps, the first question i was asked before asking for my license and registration, the police officer inquired about the year of my vehicle. I am really surprised that there has not been a recall on the grand cherokees.i always see the seem issues with the grand cherokees on the road.

1. Left brake light goes out when low beam lights are on and brakes are applied.2. Consequences includes getting a fix it ticket or causing rear end accicents.3. I've replaced both the bulb and the rear lighting unit. I continue to have problems.

Driver side brake light not working. After replacing tail light assembly it was noted the bulb socket contact pins were not making full contact thereby creating a short circuit and preventing brake light from coming on. Instrument panel brake light indicator would also come on at times.

When my headlights are on and i press the brakes, both tail lights go out and the top center light is the only light working when i am braking. When my headlights are not on and i press the brakes, tail/brake lights work normally. Another driver was kind enough to pull along side of me & let me know that none of my lights in the back were working when i put on my brakes.the next morning i got on the internet to see if there might have been a recall relating to this problem because i just purchased this vehicle in february 2005 , but it is a 2000 jeep grand cherokee.in my search, i came across a website that had appx. 60 comments of this same problem from other individuals across the country that owned the same make & model vehicle & after reading through most of those comments, i learned that the diagnosis was that both of the tail light assemblies must be replaced because the circuits were shorted (cost $500 installed). The website that revealed to me that i was not the only person having this problem is www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_33943.html i included this website so that you can see just exactly how many of us are out here with the same make/model vehicle experiencing the exact same problems & have been told by jeep that there are not any recalls or bulletins regarding a tail light problem. Now that it is dark when i leave the office in the afternoons headed home, this has really had me afraid someone was going to accidentally rear-end me on the interstate and also how iwould be at fault because of my equipment not working properly.i don't know if there is anything that you can do about this, but i felt the sincere need to report it because of the number of folks i encountered having this exact same problem as well as the great expense it is costing to have this problem corrected.any help that you can offer will be greatly appreciated. I do not know how long my vehicle has been doing this or if it was that way when i purchased it.

Door lock actuators fail. Thousands of these vehicles have done this. Rear tail lights quit working.

The vehicle leaked fuel while driving which caused gas fumes to enter the vehicle.*nlm

1.repeated failures of fuel pump.2.repeated failure of front disk brake rotors.3.repeated failure of transfer case.4.repeated failure of electric door locks.

The contact owns 2000 jeep laredo. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed and the fuel sensor warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the fuel gauge would provide erroneous readings. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic could not diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 113,772.

Justrecently my passenger side door locks are not working correctly.you can not unlock them unless the driver goes inside first.the driver must hit his/her lock then reach over and pull on the lock to unlock the passenger side.when trying to exit the car, the driver must hit the lock mechanism on the driver side to unlock the passenger side.i have to do this for both passenger side doors. This is a concern due to the fact if something happens and the passenger cannot get out then it could lead to serious problems.i know i have talked and read complaints by many other owners of 2000 jeep cherokees and it only makes sense that a recall be issued and hopefully soon before something serious occurs to some individual.thank you.

The lock on the back door of my 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo will not unlock and when i try to unlock it, it makes a "quack" noise.

The contact owns a 2000 jeep laredo.the contact stated that the front passenger side door began making a noise while being locked and unlocked.the door would not open with the key remote.additionally, the hatch and passenger side door would not open or close.all of the doors have to be opened manually and the contact has to open the doors from the passenger compartment.chrysler stated that the issue was a common failure and the doors have not been repaired.the current mileage was 118,000 and failure mileage was 82,000.

I have a 2000 grand cherokee. With 4.0l, auto trans., 4x4 select trac. It shifts hard taking off from a start. Seems like it double shifts while increasing speed, goes from 2nd gear to hiigh gear then back to 2nd gear and then back again all within a few seconds. I took it to a transmission shop where they explained to me aboutthe possibility of ano-ring seal that was to small and to replace it would require the transmission to be removed from the vehicle. Very expensive. I haven't had the repair completed yet. Before i take it in for repair, has anyone else experience this problemand or another fix?

Another vehicle and mine was backing out of a parking lot and backed in to each other, no damage done, i parked my truck, got out and the vehicle went backwards and backed into the same vehicle again and did damage this time

Gear shift was difficult to put into park and lock.*nlm

Consumer stated the transfer case failed.ts

1.repeated failures of fuel pump.2.repeated failure of front disk brake rotors.3.repeated failure of transfer case.4.repeated failure of electric door locks.

Seat not good, rear both axles

Front seat broke while driving down the road.

The contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo.the contact stated that the drivers side seat mount sheered off completely and the seat was no longer attached to the vehicle.the dealer made three attempts to diagnose the failure. The contact was awaiting a response from the manufacturer. The vehicle wasnot repaired. The current mileage was 104,000 and the failure mileages was 30,000.

The driver's side seat of my 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo became dislodged from the brackets while i was driving. This caused me to loose control of the vehicle and nearly crash into oncoming traffic. I inspected the vehicle on the side of the road and discovered that the rails on the brackets had torn apart. These should be made out of some type of durable metal but they brackets are very poorly constructed and the metal is not thick enough to handle the wear and tear of regular use. I looked on the internet for replacement brackets but, instead of finding parts, i found a series of complaints by drivers who experienced the same problem with their jeep. This is a serious problem that was corrected in the newer jeeps but is still an issue for anyone with jeep model purchased from 1998-2004.

The contact owns a 2000 jeep laredo. The contact was driving 45 mph when the driver's seat separated from the base. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the welding of the driver's seat. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure and the current mileage was 143,665.

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. The drivers side seat connection to frame has broken from seat frame creating dangerous shift of seat while driving vehicle. I have heard of similar seat separation on this vehicle.

I have owned my 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo for almost 9 nine years.almost a year ago, the drivers-side seat began to wobble.at first, it was more of an inconvenience.however, soon it became apparent that the seat was really coming off of the base.about a month ago, i took it to southpoint chrysler jeep in austin, texas in order for the seat to be fixed. Before taking it to the dealership, i removed the seat from the base and noticed that where the seat was affixed to the base, the metal had sheared off, rendering the bolts useless.i looked up this up on www.carsurvey.org, and noticed that many others had this issue as well.i believe it is a safety issue, and that jeep chrysler should have compensated me for this defect.the dealer charged me $ 1,000 (one thousand dollars) to replace the seat base andthe base that affixes to the floor.i believe that chrysler should at least pay for the cost of parts, since this could have caused a dangerous situation in an accident.i did not know the extent of the damage of the seat until i removed it. By the time i had taken it to the dealer, there was one bolt that was properly holding it in place, but the others were fairly useless.i also took pictures of the seat base and floor base.i would appreciate any help with this issue.

Severe shimmy when brakes are applied at hiway speeds.turned rotors, replaced rotors. Problem re-occurs within 5 to 10,000 miles.

We have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee that has had consistent brake problems.since 2001, we have had to resurface the rotors six times and the vehicle is experiencing the same problem today.this is not an operator problem, but is a safety problem with the front brakes.i have discussed this wth my mechanic and he says it is a consistent problem with these cars.

Every 10-15,000 miles the brakes in my jeep grand cherokee 2000 have serious wear which causes them to shake wildly.to date, this has caused no crashes but when i am driving with the brakes like this i worry about what would happen in a sudden stop.i understand that thousands of other owners of jeep grand cherokees have this problem and worry about all these cars on the road.see related article on class action lawsuit.several jeep dealers have admitted to me off the record that this is a manufacture defect but there is nothing they can do.http://www.autoblog.com/entry/0771224811266534/i would like to get this problem fixed every time it occurs but $1000 every 10,000 miles is something i can't afford which forces me to go longer before repairing them.the fact that thousands of people have this same problem and are driving on the roads every day scares me.i am shocked that jeep won't take responsibility.

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee.the driver's side brake light has never worked since i have owned it.i have had it "fixed" several times but it only works for a day or two.i have been pulled over by the police and had to explain it was the car.i have noticed that jeep's around the same age as mine almost all have a missing brake light.almost all are on the driver's side.

While driving and when brakes are depressed car shakesexcessively.consumerfeels as if will lose control of vehicle.brakes have been serviced, and problem still exists.

1.repeated failures of fuel pump.2.repeated failure of front disk brake rotors.3.repeated failure of transfer case.4.repeated failure of electric door locks.

When depressing the brake pedal itpulsated and caused the vehicleto experience extended stopping distance.the front rotors were worn.*sc

Dt*: the contact stated the front and rear of the vehicle shuttered and the steering wheel wobbled to the right and left anytime the brakes were applied.the service dealer had identified the problem as warped rotors. There was a tsb (03-005-02b) from the manufacturer, requiring the change of the brake calipers.this was the 4th time the rotors were serviced and/or replaced.updated 11/21/2006 -

The rubber molding around all of the windows (excluding the windshield) has failed to remain in place. The actuator in two of the doors has failed.

Upon general use the plastic pin in the window regulator (driver's side front) broke dropping the window down into the door.i contacted the chrysler dealer only to be told that they cannot keep these in stock as this is a common occurrence.i was told they will not issue a recall because this is not a safety issue.however, at the time it was 20 degrees below zero and i had a 6 month old baby in the car.i have not fixed it yet as there are so many replacements for this that the one for my vehicle has not been found and the cost is very steep.chrysler has admitted that this was a poor design and has since been changed.i feel they should fix my car at their expense.

I am very worried about having somebody crash into the rear of my jeep. The rear bumper is right next to fuel tank. Front passenger window slid down inside the door. It is now shattered.i bought the car a few months prior with no problems , the window always worked fine.now even the button to move the window does nothing. Glass needs to be replaced and also the regulator (window motor).
