While exiting the expressway and coming to a stop at a light all the gauges on my vehicle went out.i no longer have the following:brake lights, turn signals, speed control, key fob, possibly air bags and general electrical components.this is the 2nd occurrence of this problem.i was almost rear ended while turning because of this issue.vehicle is parked until it can be serviced. Dealer unable to service and would only schedule an appoint four days from today.
Every time i move the front seat the air bag light comes on. I have to push the seat back and forth to get it to go off. Or it will stay on. I took it in 8/16/2010 the replace theseat belt buckle this is not what it was. The air bag light comes on everytime you move the right front seat. I just hope the air bag does not come out.
Mylight for air bags when i turn wheel it comes on
Takatarecall - air bag warning light began being intermittent when traveling on secondary roads and highways.it is now lit at all times. I have already had to replace the speed control operator lever.
Tire gauges broke off / 3 crumbled off the tires and 4th just broke off in the mechanics hand! these broke off between may & nov 2010. Also air bag side contacts in steering column {air bag light is on} july 2015.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated that the air bags warning light was constantly illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 13v176000 (air bags) as a possible cause for the failure. Neither the manufacturer nor a dealer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

I purchased a used 2009 grand cherokee limited about 1 year ago.since then, i have had nothing but electrical problems with the vehicle. Over the past 6 months,i have had it into the same dealership approximately 10+ times for the same reason, electrical. Clearly chrysler is aware there is an issue, as they have repeatedly picked up the repair tab since i started an actual claim with chrysler customer service.i will start the vehicle up to ten times no problem, then stop somewhere come back to start vehicle again and it just wont start.chrysler customer service has dragged their feet so far, and their follow up has been poor at best. All the dealership has done is continue to re diagnose that there is a different problem each time as i the consumer continue to pay thousands for the faulty electrical, and cheap parts that have been engineered in my truck.once again, the consumer foots the bill for corporate americas shortcomings.their is definitely a problem with chryslers wireless ignition cylinder, very similar to the gm recall on ignitions if you ask me.now i have no vehicle again as i sit here waiting for chrysler to do something, completely on chryslers time clock.for what we spend on these vehicles today, the products and service provided by jeep and chrysler have made me sick to my stomach.i will never buy another jeep product in the next 30 years that i purchase vehicles due to the poor quality of parts, and the terrible follow up and service by chrysler corporation...
Vehicle shifts into lower2nd gear while driving at highway speeds according to owners manual this is called limp mode and needs to be stopped placed in park and turn ignition off and restarted to continue driving this has happened to me and others

Twice within the past month, my 2009 jeep grand cherokee with approximately 85,000 miles has stalled on me while driving.both times i took it to a garage; the second time i took it to a jeep dealer/service center. No codes were thrown either time and neither service person was able to duplicate the problem.it may be a coincidence, but both times this happened, i had filled my tank with gas that day.on both instances, i was able to put the car in park and restart the car with no issues.additionally, for the past few months, the car often does not start on the first try.it will start with no problems on the second attempt.dealership has replaced the win module; this did not seem to help.the throttle bottle was also replaced in case that was causing the stalling; that did not help either.i now feel as if i am risking my life and my kids' lives every time i step into the car and take it on the highway.if this stalling issue happens on a highway, we could be killed in an instant. Very dangerous and the service people don't seem all that concerned...they can't pinpoint the issue so they charge me $100+ and send me on my way.
Ignition switch turns off unexpectedly.happens while driving causing vehicle to shut down.has happened at highway speeds and nearly caused an accident.this has happened multiple times. Occurs while vehicle has been in motion, at various speeds on city streets and highways. Dealer told me there is a recall for the switch on other model years but not mine.
Vehicle would not start. Completely dead.vehicle was towed to dealer.dealer said battery was bad.replaced battery.vehicle was ok for 3 days.same problem occurred.this time dealer found vehicle was not getting proper voltage to transmission.needed wiring harness replaced.very expensive repair job.lucky for me i have a "lifetime" warranty on power train.i am wondering if the transmission would stopped working if i was moving???i talk to some with a 2007 model and the same thing happened.
I was driving on the garden state parkway north traveling approximately 65mph (the speed limit) and i was in the left lane of the three lane local lanes.i drifted too far to the left and hit the rumble strips on the side of the road.immediately, my tpms light came on and i pulled over right away.apparently, my tpms sensor on the tire broke and was letting air out of my tire. What happened was, the metal screw that is around the metal valve stem sheered off and nothing was holding the valve stem/tpms in place except for the air pressure inside the tire.when i ran over the rumble strip, it must have dislodged the sensor and started letting air out of my tire.i went to a tire shop and they found a broken tpms sensor and they replaced the valve stem with a standard non-tpms valve stem.my tire was undamaged and is back on the rim, so it was 100% a problem with the tpms sensor.furthermore, last year, i had a similar problem.i got a flat tire and my tpms was damaged.now, looking back, i feel that the tpms must have failed causing my flat tire.in that incident, my tire was destroyed because of the flat.i notice now that chrysler has a newer version of their tpms sensors that go on the wheel.the new version has a rubber valve stem, while the ones on my vehicle have a metal valve stem. Obviously, chrysler has found an issue with the metal ones and have updates their parts.i think that this is a serious issue and even though i am ok, i can forsee this causing major problems.chrysler should have my remaining tpms sensors replace at no cost to me.
I was driving the other day and all the sudden i hit a bump and the key fob falls out of the ignition cutting the engine completely off. So i was coasting with no engine or power. Luckily i put it in to neutral and it started back up. This could have been very dangerous. Also my key will not release when i am trying to turn the car off so i have to leave it on sometimes and it has killed my battery. Most of the time it will release after a clicking noise i can turn it to the off position and it will release. It has cost me two batteries and a new key
Went in to the store came out put my key in and it does not start all the dash lights come had it towed home my son came over put key in and it started right up one week later the same thing happen it not reading my key all the time
We were driving at approx 55 mph (not braking or turning) when suddenly the vehicle lost all acceleration, the gas and mph as well as directional and temperature gauges went dark/dropped to zero, then the car lost power steering. We were able to pull off the side of the road, place the car into park, removed the key, and then returned the key and restarted the car. The car then started normally.
Mylight for air bags when i turn wheel it comes on
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated that the key failed to release from the ignition switch, which caused the battery to wear prematurely. Took our jeep to the dealership after the key fob kept getting stuck in the ignition and wouldn't release. They said it was the win module that needs to be replaced and the key would have to be reprogrammed for that win module! well, since then, we've noticed that when we are able to get the key out (from hitting above the ignition to get it to release, or waiting an hour for it to eject on it's own) the radio will keep playing, so we have to turn it off, all of the dash lights stay on, it still dings if the door is open and acts like the key is in it after being removed. Now we're running into more issues while we're driving where it starts glitching and the computer makes all kinds of terrible scary sounds and has actually powered down on us! now the battery is dead and won't start even with a jump! most issues started out while in park and just trying to remove key fob, that lasted a few months and it still drove fine. Unfortunately, the issues have continually gotten worse and i'm afraid to drive it with my family since it powered down while driving down the street!
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the ignition key moved inadvertently into the off accessory. The vehicle restarted and resumed normally. The failure recurred three times whenever encountering a bump in the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealerwhere the ignition switch was currently being replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contactreceived nhtsa recall notice for campaign number 13v175000 (electrical system, power train) several months ago but was informed by the dealer that the parts for the remedy were not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. There are no failures at this time. The vin was not available.
Carin park, remains on after key has been turned off and removed. Key is new and replaced this year.appears to be something in the ignition/electrical system.
Jeep cherokees stall while being driven....they cut off without any warning...the reason they cut off while in motion is due a wiring harness design flaw, but jeep is keeping this matter a secret and they deny they have a problem throughout the country...someone or some agency needs to investigate this matter in order to see how serious and widespread this problem is, surf the internet auto sites regarding all the jeep cherokees that stall out while being driven. I do not want to see on the news that a driver was killed when his or her cherokee stalled causing a massive wreck and deaths....that is why i am reporting this matter.

4 issues: 1.vehicle will not restart right away after the key fob has been turned off and sometimes i have to get out and disengage the battery for it to start again. 2. Key fob will come out of ignition when it is turned to accessory.4. Key fob is able to come out when vehicle is running. 3. Sometimes key will not come out of ignition if it locks up.there are recalls on this problem with jeeps but for some reason not my vehicle.i did have it fixed at the jeep dealer but it is doing the same thing after $600.00 .this is a safety feature when the key comes out of the ignition before turning vehicle off.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee.the contact stated that the power locks, windows, and interior lights failed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that a wire in driver's side door needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 65,652.
Vehicle randomly shuts off while driving at any speed and the steering is lost.this happens while driving and has happened at 60mph as well as 35.there is no warning before it happens. Extremely dangerous.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. While driving approximately 63 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. After restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The failure recurred on a separate occasion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the key fob was replaced, but the failure persisted. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v567000 (electrical system). The vehicle was not repaired for a second time. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
While driving on a freeway the car stalled and had difficulty controlling the car to the road shoulder. The car was restarted after stopping for few minutes. The car dealership could not identified failure code. This happened again is august 2013 and most recently on september 19, 2013. The last time the car would not start and it was towed to the dealership. I am waiting for their diagnoses.

While driving, the ignition switch goes into accessory and the engine shuts off..jeep has no power steering or power to control the vehicle. This scared the "h" out of my wife yesterday while driving in traffic across a bridge going to work. She was traveling aprox. 45 mph across a straight bridge. This same thing happened to mysely last year while on the pa turnpike in traffic. I put the flashers on and shifted into neutral and restarted the jeep without much serious problems. But now a second time !!! i don't want anybody to get hurt because of this
Most of the time the horn will not sound. You have to pound on it many many times for it to sound. By that time the emergency is past. Jeep has said it is the same on all 2009 jeeps. The consumer stated the vehicle would shut off, after it was started.the ignition switch was replaced. Updated 04/08/15
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. 2009 jeep grand cherokee.consumer writes in regards to vehicle transfer case actuator recall notice.the consumer stated on two separate occasions, while driving, the transfer case suddenly shifted into neutral, the vehicle was in drive and in motion, not parked. The recall notice, that was sent to him, was not what he experienced.
At times, the ignition switch turns off unexpectedly while driving. Also, when starting, the ignition switch will, at times, turn off, resulting in a failure to remain running.
The car will not start with ignition fob. This happens unpredictably. It has been doing this for a long time. We thought it was the battery but now, with a new battery it still often will not start. If we wait for some unknown period of time it eventually cranks and starts. We never know when and if we can leave or visa versa for returning home. When ever this happens the vehicle is stationary in legal parking place. However, it has cut off will driving.
09 jeep grand cherokee electrical issue - second occurrence: lost all dash gauges, speedometer, lighting, radio, turn signals, no brake lights and heat/ac while driving down the highway.i took the vehicle immediately to the dealer with the issue showing. I was told that someone would look at the vehicle, however, i had to leave the vehicle with the dealer overnight.it appears the dealer did not look at the vehicle until the next day.dealer returned the vehicle unable to determine the problem.told to bring the vehicle back when the problem occurs again.this is a safety issue which could have resulted in an accident.the vehicle should be recalled for safety concerns. This is my second complaint to nhtsa.
While driving the jeep grand cherokee, the car completely turns off while in drive. Within seconds power steering is lost.this occurs without any initiating event and occurs at random.most recently the issue occurred while driving at 65 mph.the car has been serviced 8 times, without anything being resolved.
While i am driving the key will flip back, thus shutting the car off while in motion. It has happened several times, hitting bumps, and simply driving along the road. Everything will lock up, can not steer, i have almost wrecked on several occasions.
The vehicle was towed to the dealer (golling chrysler dodge jeep ram, 2405 s telegraph rd, bloomfield hills, mi 48302, (248)-334-3600) where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed. Traction control light (skidding car) flashes, feels like abs is being applied to passenger front wheel even though i am not applying the brakes and even when accelerating.usually only stops when the eas/bas lights come on. Always worse on warm days. Jeep says theres no issue but after 5 minutes on the internet, thata clearly not true.
After receiving n23 safety recall "fix" lost use of 4wd low range (which also allegedly compromises clutch packs controlling high-range 4wd system torque/power distribution).jeep dealer diagnosed and replaced transfer case actuator."fix" lasted 1mo.returned to dealer; trouble codes cleared.problem returned in less than 24h.this is the correspondence sent to jeep: ...i believe this to be a software issue, and my reasons are this: 1) the actuator works as designed after all codes are reset/cleared (though the duration for which this works is not consistent) 2) pulling a fuse for the fdcm is the same as "resetting/clearing" the trouble code - this does not point to the hardware as the problem. 3) if i understand the system correctly, losing functionality of this portion of the system, with my quadra-drive ii, causes a safety side-effect of compromised traction control since the clutch packs in the transfer case for awd function malfunction when the trouble code is lodged. This vehicle operated normally (albeit with risk of a roll-away when remote start is used without the parking brake) prior to the n23 recall. For it to only exhibit issues after the recall, then continue to exhibit them after replacing the transfer case actuator makes the software update highly suspect as a contributing factor, if not a root cause. I believe this issue (if it in fact compromises the traction control system) is a serious safety concern, and believe that if fca cannot find a solution quickly, i will take action.i use my jeep daily to commute on public roads, and cannot continue to afford to have it out of service or at risk of increased safety hazard. Thank you in advance for your assistance...this is unacceptable and there are many others with the same issue.a recall shouldn't reduce functionality of the vehicle.period.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the accelerator pedal seized. While the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was shifted into neutral to slow the vehicle. In addition, after the failure, the check engine warning light illuminated continuously. The contact informed a local mechanic of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.
Vehicle shifts into lower2nd gear while driving at highway speeds according to owners manual this is called limp mode and needs to be stopped placed in park and turn ignition off and restarted to continue driving this has happened to me and others
Have owned used 2009 jeep grd.chrke. For 10 months 2 months in to owning noticed at times vehicle would loose power. Pressing gas pedal did nothing. Had to pull over shut jeep off, wait a minute then start jeep back up. This worked and the problem went away. But over the months it became more frequent. I took it back to dealer and he could not find anything wrong. No codes from engine. I have had the necessary maintenance done on the jeep. This week the problem began on friday and continues on. My jeep will not go over 25 mph. Taking it to authorized dealer and jeep repair on monday. But having read the complaints on this site i have very little faith this problem will be fix!!! even though my complaint mimics several of the complaints sent in to those that manufacturer jeeps!!!

This is the third incident since august of this year.latest incident occurred today, october 14, 2014.in each incident, the engine suddenly goes into a rough idle and eventually stalls with loss of power.i have been able to steer the car off the road and switch between off/start positions until the vehicle starts.the vehicle runs normally after these incidents with no "check engine" light displayed.reported the incident to chrysler and they told me this year jeep was not in scope of their recently announced recall for the same problem.
I was driving on the highway and the vehicle pulled away as in driving itself.my only control was the brakes.it was scary thank god no one got hurt.its not the first time.i've brought this to the attention of the dealer and they told me nothing is wrong.this has happened to me 4 diff times.when i put the car on park the rpm revs up to 5000 rpm i have to immediately shut the car off.this is a safety concern and needs to be looked into immediately.
On two occasion my check engine light came on. Both times the thermostat gage kept going up and down.on both occasion i took the vehicle to have it checked. On the second occasion that this happened i was told that a technical service bulletin had been issued for this problem. (pull code #p2181) i was also told that i had to take the vehicle to a dealer to have it taken care of. Since this is a manufacturing issue i felt that it should be taken care at no cost to me but was informed that i would need to in fact pay for this update.(not only do i need to pay but i also have to take time off from work to have this done).
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the failure could not be diagnosed. While driving on u.s. Highway 270 in arkansas this date, my 2009 jeep grand cherokee experiencedsudden unintended acceleration.i was pressing slightly on the accelerator pedal while going up a hillwhen the engine went into a wide open throttle condition.i was able to maintain control of the vehicleand turned-off the ignition, allowing the vehicle to coast down to approximately 45 mph.upon turningthe ignition back to "on" the vehicle again experienced sua and accelerated quickly to 60+ mph.iagain turned the ignition switch to the "off" position and allowed the vehicle to coast back down.upon turning the ignition back to "on", the engine went back into a wide open throttle condition again.after four tries (turning ignition "off", then "on", the engine rpm returned to a normal operating condition and i was able to continue with my trip.there was no floor mat interference with the accelerator pedal.the speed control system was not activated.i am a pilot with 500 hours of flight time and recent annual check ride qualification/training to handle emergency situations.had my wife or the average driver been operating the car, there would likely have been a serious accident.the vehicle simply went berserk.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle stalled. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage 22,500.
After driving prolonged time on xpressway and slowing down or stopping, the jeep hesitates, misfires and lets out giant clouds of white smoke out tailpipe after accelerating with partial or full throttle. Almost caused major freeway accident multiple times trying to switch lanes or pull onto freeway onramp. Car been into dealership 3 or more times for same complaints. Since car throws no codes and dealership can't replicate the problem on their test drives, dealer just keeps handing the jeep back to me and saying no issue with jeep. My jeep has also stalled under hard braking on at least one occasion. Very dangerous condition(s) with no satisfaction from dealer service department. Chrysler also contacted and opened case file. They wouldn't authorize any work to be done to the jeep either. Car has been serviced properly, has 90k miles currently and a lifetime warranty from chrysler which seems worthless as chrysler won't pick up a screwdriver to look for problem if the jeep doesn't throw a code. Absolutely nuts.
When the red light turned green, i try to proceed across the intersection when the car just died. The radio continued to play but i had no power steering. I managed to pull over and turn on my flashers. Meanwhile the radio continued to play. I put the car in park and try to start the car again and it did indeed start. If i had been driving on i75 going 70mph and the car stalled i would be in huge trouble. The goodyear mechanic could not find the problem.
Upper radiator hose elbow failed allowing immediate loss of all coolant fluid.the barb on the end of the plastic elbow broke off allowing the hose to slip off the elbow.this occurred while driving and resulted in immediate check engine light and overheating of engine.the driving was being done by a firestone technician that was test driving the vehicle after a front end alignment.based on comments by other owners of the same vehicle this is a common occurrence ( http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50508).
Vehicle will lose power while driving. Sometimes will loose power while pulling out. Very dangerous when pulling onto the highway. Have to pull to shoulder to avoid being rear ended.

Vehicle shut off while driving, key was in the on position suddenly shutoff causing no power steering, power brakes, instrument panel and gauges went to zero.was able to restart after a few minutes.drove home, went to start vehicle 1 hour later and nothing happened.this has happened before and is similar to several other complaints for this make and year.chrysler has no recall or fix for this problem and is not willing to recognize it as a serious safety issue. Someone will be killed because of this or already has, dead people do not complain.
Vehicle randomly shuts off while driving at any speed and the steering is lost.this happens while driving and has happened at 60mph as well as 35.there is no warning before it happens. Extremely dangerous.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep cherokee. The contact stated that after having the electronic key fob replaced, the vehicle started to sporadically stall while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 88,000.
Front passenger and drivers door interior handles are cracking. The cracking is going to lead to a failure of the interior door handle, making it impossible to get out of the vehicle in a emergency. While cleaning the door panels i noticed the problem and checked all four door. The only door that is cracked is the front doors. I looked for recalls on this matter and did not find any. I have talked with other jeep owners and they have stated that they have had the same problem.the from seatbelts will not retract all the time. If this happens the seat belt will get caught in the door, wearing the belt. This has happened numerous times on my vehicle. There is a wear point on the seatbelt were it has got caught in the door.

Right rear turn signal became totally inoperative after working intermittently. Bulb and bulb socket connector was replaced, fuses were checked. Hazard light will not function on this bulb although driving light function works on this bulb indicating bulb is not the issue. Also, driver's side low beam headlight will not shut off after ignition turned off. Received code b162b indicating possible issue with the 'integrated power module' also referred to as the 'tipm'. Not having a working turn signal creates an extremely hazardous situation and should be addressed by the dealer. Faulty turn signal lights and headlight issues are characteristic of the tipm that was installed in these vehicles by chrysler for which an immediate safety recall should be issued.
Vehicle equipped with high intensity discharge lamps, with automatic headlamp leveling system, the system has become in operative andhead lights do not search outfar enough to provide a safe viewing area on low beam. A potential safety issue with night driving.
Vehicle is equipped with the 5.7l hemi engine. Upon starting the vehicle, idle was very rough, and vehicle shut off. Check engine light came on. Immediately, estarted the vehicle and experienced no further issue, however cel stayed illuminated. After a couple quick trips around the neighborhood the cel turned off and the vehicle ran normal. A couple days later while accelerating from a stop at a traffic light the vehicle stalled, and the cel came back on. Restarted the vehicle, and it ran normal the remainder of the day, cel stayed lit for a while, but eventually turned off. Approximately 4-5 days later, the vehicle stalled again while waiting at a traffic light. Cel came on. I restarted the vehicle, and drove it home. I pulled the code for the cel using my odb reader, and it was a p0129 (barometric pressure out of range). I took the vehicle to the dealership, by the time i got there the cel was no longer lit. The dealership was able to find the stored code, but said that they could not reproduce the problem. They checked the map sensor, and said it was fine, but refused to take any further action since it was not exhibiting any issues aside from the stored code they found. Searching the internet, i've found multiple people with the same issue on this series grand cherokee, many, as i, who are frustrated with no resolution from the manufacturer. Dealer has advised me to come pick up my vehicle, without any fix or explanation as to what is causing this. This is a safety issue as the vehicle can and will stall in traffic creating a potential for a traffic collision or loss of control.
Every time i fuel my car fuel backs up the the fuel filler neck and spills all over the ground this seem to be a problem not only in jeep cherokees but in the wrangler too from what i understand this is a every fuel up ongoing problem

While attempting to park vehicle, with only brake being applied, and motor allowed to idle, vehicle accelerated. All attempts to stop vehicle by hard application of foot brake failed, and vehicle collided with a building.subsequent investgation by insurance adjuster determined the vehicle was fast idling, possibly a tps issue. Despite many complaints to various jeep authorizedservicers, noneever disclosed a problem with this issue. Since new, the vehicle transmission has always had a tendency tograb when approaching a steep incline at idling speed, with sudden acceleration if gas pedal is gently depressed.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle decelerated without any warning. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was exhibiting the same failures as mentioned in recall nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). However, the vin number was not included. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was awaiting to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,000.
Brake safety switch failed, car is unable to shift out of park.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand caravan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle would not down shift. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was applied the vehicle would overheat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that there was a circuit in the down shift mode that would have to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated when in drive gear and on an incline, the vehicle would roll backward without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to determine the failure. The manufacturer was contacted in reference to the failure but did not offer any assistance. The contact stated the failure had occurred since the date of purchase. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 500 and the current mileage was 13,000.
While driving my car suddenly would not go into gear,i had to put my car in neutral my driving.engine light came on as well.this happened approximately three days after i had the recall done for the transfer case at champion chrysler dealership.i took it back in july and they told me i needed a new transfer case which i ended spending a 1000 to replace.picked up the car and as soon as i drove it off the same things happened. I had to shift to neutral before going into 3rd gear.took the car back to champion chrsyler again and they said it was the solenoid.i just spent another 1000 to get that fixed.they said this should definitely fix the problem.spoke to chrysler corp. On first incident and service mgr no luck.spoke to service mgr on 2nd fix and no luck.long story short getting the recall fix cost me 2000 when it suppose to be free of charge.chrysler's recall solution for the transfer case is costing consumers more out of pocket.i had never had to put my car in neutral before getting the recall done.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee 4x4. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into neutral. The failure occurred after the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system , power train).the manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Had transfer case recall completed in october had no problem before now cannot put transfer case into neutral. Had car back to my dealer 7 different times twice they kept it for a few days when i get home it will not go into neutral also car was in a dealer in lansing mi. Once and it was in a henderson nv dealer it is now dec. 29 and it will not go into neutral had it in nevada 2 times. Jeep customer service in auburn mi.don't want to help.

Transmission will disengage while driving at any given speed.the only way to correct it is to coast to a stop, put the transmission in park then shut off the engine and restart.only then will car become drivable again.this is extremely hazardous when on the interstate or expressway.check engine light comes on and a code p2767 is always present when this occurs.my jeep mechanic says its an expensive repair as the transmission has an internal servo short and has to be disassembled to repair it.my jeep only has 56,685 on the odometer.not covered under warranty and i am told is a common problem with this model transmission.someone is going to get killed trying to coast to a stop or accelerating to get onto a interstate when the transmission shuts down.happens at any speed.turning, going straight, highway or rural roads, bumps or no bumps, uphill or downhill.comes without warning.engine rpms increase but car is just coasting.
Dealer performed n23 recall in august 2013,since recall performed, jeep has been back to several dealers 10-11 times.since recall, can not put jeep into freewheel or 4 low.jeep was purchased specifically for towing behind motorhome.have spent hundreds of dollars to return to dealer and many hours of personal time.have also driven vehicle hundreds of miles when tow mode failed after we pulled behind motorhome.we are concerned that our vehicle may shift into gear while towing and jeopardize us or the safety of others. We are also concerned that our jeep may shift into neutral at a time that would risk our safety and the safety of others.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contactreceived nhtsa recall notice for campaign number 13v175000 (electrical system, power train) several months ago but was informed by the dealer that the parts for the remedy were not available. I brought my vehicle into my dealership for a recall that i was suggested to do. The recall # is: n23.now, there is another problem with low gear 4x4 and neutral position. I cannot use these modes. This is a common problem, we found out through the dealer, that happens after i have brought in my vehicle for the original( n23) recall. I called chrysler and they advised me to go back to my dealership. I went back to my dealership and they just said they can't keep resetting this fault code. I told the bbb about this, and they suggested i go back to my dealership, chrysler told them that, and they closed my case. How do i drive my vehicle safely now. I can't use my gears for which i bought this suv for. What do i do now? please help me. I seem to be getting the run-around.(apparently, searching n23 problems on "google" will show there are many others with the same issue). Thank you.
While driving the car the car looses the ability to steer and drops into neutral. The dealership swears that they can't duplicate the problem. I took it in for the n23 recall today and as i was driving into the dealership it happened again - yet they still couldn't duplicate the problem. Now i'm worried that my 4wd won't work
Jeep shifted to neutral upon startup and rolled downhill in park. (jan. 2013)note there is a recall on this issue chrysler/jeep "n23".i had not had the recall service performed. I scheduled the recall service, which was done at bosak jeep, merrillville in, in february 2013. The service is a software update to the final drive control module (fdcm).the reason for this complaint is to state that the software update performed eliminates specific functionality from the vehicle, namely 4-wheel drive low range and neutral modes (jeep being towed/transfer case disconnect).the elimination of these functionalities is creating a "black market" of owners who are swapping out the updated fdcms with pre-updated ones; and has initiated discussion of persons "hacking" the fdcm code to regain the functionalities. Http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/n23-recall-issue-no-4-low-1561787/index168.htmlmy vehicle, after the update, has the "service 4wd system" light upon attempts to engage 4wd low range. Software fixes of hardware failure is specious engineering.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee.ever since the vehicle was purchased, it rolls backwards when placed into drive.the vehicle has been to the dealer four times, but they could not diagnose the cause of the failure.the dealer stated that the failure was due to an engineering deficiency.the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage is 4,531 updated 09/16/09 updated 09/17/09.
The following incidents occurred after performance of chrysler safety recall n23/nhtsa 13v-175. We use our 2009 grand cherokee as a towed vehicle behind our motorhome. Prior to recall execution the 4wd system performed as expected by going into the "n" position when selected. Since recall n23 i have experienced several instances of failure of the transfer case to shift into "n". Even replacing the transfer case actuator at my expense only to incur the same situation two times again. The first occurrence, post recall, resulted in my having to pay $91.17 for a "reset" of the actuator when out of town and then i paid ($789.30) for replacement of the actuator after arriving home at my local dealership. Next failure occurred after four activations when out of town resulting in a jeep dealer again performing n23. That action allowed us to return home and now after only three activations of the actuator, i find the "service 4wd sys" warning when "n" is selected. I have not contacted my dealer about this latest failure but will very soon. We simply can not have this type of condition with our vehicle. During one of the failures, the wife drove the gc and i drove the motorhome over 300 miles due to a death in the family as we did not find it convenient, at that moment, to once again attempt repairs on this car.in researching this situation on the internet, i find that there are many otherjeep owners in the same situation post n23. Please verify this statement by reviewing any jeep forum as well as www.irv2.com.in some cases owners (like us) have had to pay for repairs and in other cases, dealers repaired the vehicles at no cost to the owners. It should be obvious to anyone that chrysler caused this situation despite their refusal to publicly accept responsibility. A software rewrite won't repair a cracked circuit board. Please make things right.thank you.
Vehicle shifts into lower2nd gear while driving at highway speeds according to owners manual this is called limp mode and needs to be stopped placed in park and turn ignition off and restarted to continue driving this has happened to me and others
Brake safety switch failed, car is unable to shift out of park.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee.while driving approximately 30 mph down hill with pressure applied to the brake pedal, the vehicle would not stop.repeated pressure was applied to the brake pedal and a grinding noise was heard but the vehicle would not stop until it crashed into another vehicle. A police report was not filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who stated that the brakes were working properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 9,000.
My vehicle has under 65k miles and has gone through 3 rack and pinion units under warranty. They go out every 20k miles or so. Each time they do, steering becomes loose and unpredictable and has the potential to cause a loss of control of the vehicle. This issue is not unique to my vehicle as i have read of many others having the same issue. The manufacturer refuses to address the core issue, the rack and pinion unit in this vehicle is prone to failure and needs to be permanently addressed. My current rack and pinion unit was replace just over a year ago, less than 6000 miles and is already failing again. Unfortunately i did not maintain all of my documentation as i had no idea this would be an ongoing concern.
Vehicle randomly shuts off while driving at any speed and the steering is lost.this happens while driving and has happened at 60mph as well as 35.there is no warning before it happens. Extremely dangerous.
Vehicle turns off while driving, loss of brakes, steering and propulsion is loss. Vehicle does this randomly and itis not the first time.
Purchased new in 2009.the jeep grand cherokee 2009 limited 8 cylinder hemi engine started leaking power steering fluid from the power steering line with very low mileage.the mechanic back in 2012 said there was a problem with the power steering line leaking due to pressure and needed to replace it.said it could cause a fire and loss of steering so i paid the large price to fix the issue.i thought it was a one-off problem.the exact same issue happened one month ago in 2014 (exactly 2 years later) and i was curious if others are having the same issue.i did some research to find that same chrysler engine and power steering used in many 2009-2012 jeeps and dodge ram trucks are having the same issue of a power steering line failure.this is a major problem as it can cause fires and/or loss of steering.i believe there is already an investigation by the nhtsa # pe 12-020.the odi nos. 10465379, 10461736, 10459178.please advise.
While driving the jeep grand cherokee, the car completely turns off while in drive. Within seconds power steering is lost.this occurs without any initiating event and occurs at random.most recently the issue occurred while driving at 65 mph.the car has been serviced 8 times, without anything being resolved.
Sudden loss of power steering while driving injan . Power steering pump replaced. In may same problem occurred while exiting i-91 on ramp. The car is presently at dealers now for , hopefully , a solution.
Had to have the leaking power steering pump line replaced due to hole in the line.
While driving the car the car looses the ability to steer and drops into neutral. The dealership swears that they can't duplicate the problem. I took it in for the n23 recall today and as i was driving into the dealership it happened again - yet they still couldn't duplicate the problem. Now i'm worried that my 4wd won't work
There is a leak coming from the maplight, and the a posts on the driver and passenger side.the leak gets worse the faster you drive.dealership states this is a known issue caused by the sunroof drains.the drainage tube gets frozen or clogged and then leaks.this has happened twice since i bought the vehicle in october.
On august 26, 2014, this 2009 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4 vehicle was involved in an accident causing serious cervical and spinal injuries to a pedestrian.this vehicle was in a parked position, accelerated without the driver touching the accelerator pedal, kept moving forward on its own accord until the vehicle ultimately stopped after striking a building metal staircase. Please investigate this safety issue to prevent further personal injury and, or properly damage.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee.the contact stated that she noticed a loud squeaking noise from the right front wheel well. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the wheel well had rubbed against the brake and rotors. The vehicle was repaired but the failure occurred again. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. She was informed that the vehicle was not included in recall 09e039000 (suspension). The failure mileage was approximately 7,000. The current mileage wasapproximately 21,000. The vin was unavailable.
The plastic bumper is held in place by plastic snaps which easily fall apart.the bumper then falls down where the snaps no longer hold it in place rendering it useless upon impact.the smallest impact would break the snaps which cannot be replaced or repaired without replacing the entire bumper.the dealership will not replace the bumper.this is also the only protection for the radiator and very dangerous consequences because the bumper will fall apart rather than provide the support it is supposed to when an accident occurs.
Front door handles and panels are coming apart. The plastic panel is very brittle and both handles are just hanging within the panel compartment with no support or attachment.research on this situation has shown me that this is a "very common" problem and should be addressed with a vehicle recall. The safety issue is a major concern for me and my passengers should we have the need to exit in a hurry. This raises a concern for both my children should we have a need to get out of the vehicle in an emergency.i have spoken to local jeep dealerships and they tell me that since i am the "second owner" the vehicle would be out of warranty. The vehicle is just over 20,000 miles, and being a second owner makes the car less valuable???? where is the consumer protection on these matters. The dealer wants over $2,000 to replace/repair the two front door trim panels and door handles in question.i have also checked with two trim shops in the area who tell me this is a common problem with this model, and with the compass and wrangler models. This is the result of normal wear and tear, normal everyday use. This should not be something that would break down this easily. Chrysler should be held responsible for these repairs. I have never seen such shoddy materials and no compassion on the part of the manufacturer to get involved.
Both of our front door panels at the door handles are broke.this makes it difficult sometimes to get out of the vehicle without either rolling down the window and reaching out, or somebody outside of the vehicle opening the door.if we were to be in an accident where we needed to quickly exit the vehicle, we would probably be out of luck!!to make things worse, we were told that it would cost about $850 per door to fix this with the same type of door panel that has failed.it has not been re-designed or improved and who has $3400 to fix their door handles!i think this is something that jeep knows is defective and should have to recall this.these are not cheap vehicles, but obviously cheap made!!
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated that whenever it would rain, water would enter the interior of the vehicle.the contact stated that the failure would cause the radio and all other electrical components to become inoperable.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who made repairs to the sunroof but the failure was not corrected.the manufacturer was notified who informed the contact to continue taking the vehicle to the dealer for additional repairs. The failure mileage was 244 and the current mileage was 17,500.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle's undercarriage was rusted due to salt exposure. The vehicle was taken to car line (3335 jefferson davis hwy, stafford, va 22554) where it was diagnosed that the shocks and control arms had fractured due to the rust. In addition, the frame and suspension were severely rusted. The contact stated that the engine pulleys, shocks, brakes, and rotors were replaced. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The failure mileage was 132,000.

Second incident regarding tire sensor monitor. Mechanic checked tire pressure and tsm deflated tire and had to be replaced.while driving at 40 mph, tire pressure light comes on and tire immediatelydeflates.
As i was driving my 2009 jeep grand cherokee on a highway at approx 70 mph my left rear tire instantly went flat immediately following a low tire pressure indicator. When i stopped my car to check the flat i noticed that the tire valve (tire pressure monitor wheel sensor) was gone. When i changed the tire i realized the pressure sensor fell into the wheel because the threaded nut that holds the sensor in place failed and broke in two causing the tire to loose all its air at once. I checked the retaining nuts on the remaining wheels to discover they were all cracked badly and could fail at any time. I later learned from the dealer that chrysler has updated the part number to a new rubber valve sensor, and the sensor i have is no longer available. Chrysler knows about the problem but to my surprise has not issued a technical service bulletin or a recall. What if it had been a front tire that went flat causing an accident resulting in injury or death to myself or someone else? i've called chrysler cust assistance and am working it out with them currently. But from what i've gathered so far they don't see this as a safety issue. To me this is a huge liability issue, and an even bigger safety concern.
I was writing to you to complain about tpms sensors that are required on vehicles these days.as a fast lube operator, we are experiencing more and more tpms sensors breaking apart when just trying toget the cap off to air up a customers tire.we have also had instances where the sensor broke as soon as we put the air chuck on the valve stem to air up the tire.as you can imagine, when this happens, the customer expects us to pay for the replacement of the sensor because it wasn't broken when they got there.something needs to change.it might force us to quit checking peoples tire pressure which is why they were invented to begin with (the whole firestone-ford explorer saga).these sensor need to be made out of a different material or removed from vehicles all together.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated that the rubber on the sidewall of the spare tire that came equipped with the vehicle was worn. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was noticed of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. While driving 65 mph, the tire pressure indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. Immediately following, the front passenger side tire lost air pressure. The dealer stated that the valve stem was corroded and fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 28,200.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the front driver's side tire lost air quickly and abruptly. The contact pulled over and noticed that the valve stem on the tire had failed and fractured apart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the valve stems on the vehicle had failed and needed to be replaced. The failure recurred one other time, with the rear driver's side tire. The contact spoke to world jeep chrysler dodge ram681 shrewsbury ave, shrewsbury, nj 07702 who stated that the contact should speak to goodyear, the tire manufacturer. The tire manufacturer stated that the contact should speak to the vehicle manufacturer as they were not responsible for the valve stems or rims. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, stated that they knew nothing about the matter, and provided the number to nhtsa. The approximate failure mileage was 102,850. Updated 10/05/17*lj
Driving 2009 jeep grand cherokee on highway at 65 mph.right front tire instantly went flat preceeded by a low tire pressure indicator. Auto club installed spare and noted that the tire valve (tire pressure monitor wheel sensor) was gone. Tire dealer checked tire (now damaged beyond repair) and found the pressure sensor fell into the wheel because the threaded nut that holds the sensor in place failed and separated from the wheel while driving. Inspection of sensor assembly showed clear evidence of severe corrosion to the threads which allowed retaining nut to separate at highway speeds.inspection by tire dealer of all other wheels showed similar condition.vehicle is regularly maintained by jeep dealer shops, driven primarily in ny state. This issue is worse than driving on low pressure tires as it occurs catastrophically.the tire pressure monitor sensor on the vehicle is 100% oem (no dissimilar metals in use).cannot believe there is no indication from manufacturer of this defect or suggested preventative actions.
Fob falling out of ignition switch. Car was in drive but was not being driven as was stopped at gate which was opening. When fob fell out engine stopped. Happened multiple times now. The described was the most recent. Very dsngerous. We plan to take it to dealer.
Driver-side and passenger-side interior door handles both (at different times)just broke for no reason and started crumbling in pieces. It started about a year ago.i asked about it at our dealership. They informed me there were no recalls or anything. I looked it up online and saw that there have been many jeep cherokees having this same issue and no one understands why there has been no recall on this common problem. My handles have gotten so bad that i am afraid of the safety issue for my family and i now.of course the vehicle was stationary, as we were trying to get out of the vehicle when both of the handles did this.
Paint peeling off on roof. Payed a lot of money for this jeep, never hada paint problem on any jeep or car i had before, going to cost me 1,258.00 to fix, still making payments on this jeep, should be recalled, i am not happy, don't think i am getting another jeep, this is my 4 th, and i love them. But.
Vehicle turns off while driving, loss of brakes, steering and propulsion is loss. Vehicle does this randomly and itis not the first time.
The key will not come out of the ignition. The key gets stuck all the time. Vehicle starts properly, but does not shut off correctly since the key is stuck in the vehicle. Takes several hours to until key can be taken out properly and vehicle is completely turned off the right way.
Takatarecall - air bag warning light began being intermittent when traveling on secondary roads and highways.it is now lit at all times. I have already had to replace the speed control operator lever.
Tl * the contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee laredo (na).the contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate past 60 mph and the check engine indicator illuminated.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who stated that the input speed sensor needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified.the failure mileage was 15,000.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee.the contact stated that while traveling to enter the freeway, the throttle body failed to release causing the vehicle accelerated. The contact removed her foot from the accelerator pedal but the vehicle did not slow down. The contact was able to shut off the vehicle and merged to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for further inspection, diagnosis and repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,455.
I was driving on the long island expressway and as i was trying to accelerate, the gas pedal stopped working and the car slowed down. I attempted to press down on the gas pedal again, to no avail. The car started to decelerate. I had to put my hazard lights on and get on the shoulder. I put my foot under the gas pedal to see if anything was stuck under it, but there were no foreign objects. Luckily, i was not hit and i was in the right hand lane. This was a very potentially dangerous situation.
Vehicle suffers loss of acceleration.this can occur when merging into traffic, attempting to pass.routinely happens after traveling on interstate at consistent speed but has happened when attempting to merge onto or off interstate.there have also been occasions when vehicle appeared to backfire discharging plume of white smoke.diagnostics at the dealership did not show any problems but when a computer was hooked up to the vehicle, it captured unexplainable readings that astounded the mechanics. Dealership has changed two map sensors and this has not corrected the problem.
Tire gauges broke off / 3 crumbled off the tires and 4th just broke off in the mechanics hand! these broke off between may & nov 2010. Also air bag side contacts in steering column {air bag light is on} july 2015.
The contact owns a 2009 jeep grand cherokee. The contact stated that while exiting the vehicle, there was a hissing noise coming from the rear driver's side tire. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was advised that the valve stem sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.

I have michilen tires which are laoded with dry rot cracks.there is plenty of thread still left on tires but need to be replaced due to rot on thetiresi have had several issues with flat tires.the valve stem are literally breaking off when adding air to my tires.so jeep knew of this problem with bad valve stem in 2008 yet they kept using them in 2009??????????how many people have to have blow outs/accidents before someone is held accountable???????????

Tire had gone flat twice for with no damage to the tire it self.with further inspection there was a crack found on the rear face of the wheel starting from the inside and working out to the tire sealing surface.there is no damage to the tire and no bend or scraps in the aluminum wheel indicating an impact.there is corrosion in the crack which would lead one to believe this to be a fatigue crack and it being in the wheel for some length of time.vehicle was inspected by dealer, photos where taken and the dealer left the decision to replace the aluminum wheel up to the regional service manager.the regional service manager denied the claim on the basis of wheels being a wear item. This was relayed via the dealership service manager.i have photos of the wheel, and the wheel itself is available for inspection.it is clear that this is not an impact crack, but instead a fatigue crack.at this point in time we are not driving the vehicle for fear the other wheels might be doing the same thing.
