Ellen romett, (wife) in an attempt to move our 1995 jeep cherokee grand lmt. Forward in the driveway a few feet, placed the vehicle in drive with her foot on the brake. The vehicle suddenly accelerated forward at high speed through the yard fence, she immediately hit the brake, however the car continued to travel anadditional 34 feet and finally came to stop after hitting a large cherry tree. Grass and driveway markings validate her attempt to brake the vehicle and the fact that the acceleration continued even after braking. Air bags did not deploy. Injuries to my wife appear to be minimal, however, there was extensive damage to the jeep cherokee and $1400 in property damage.*nlm
No deployment of airbag in accident.
Many of the problems i have had with this vehicle could have caused a fatal crash. There are many failures apparently not being addressed by chrysler. Jeep vehicles should be sold along with legal representation. The list of problems i have encountered so far are as follows: complete automatic transmission, lf axle, viscous coupler in transfer case--big $$, complete a/c system, cruise control, air bag sensor, speedometer assy.+ the recalls as of date--fr. Brake rotors, shift interlock--very unsatisfied 1st time jeep owner.
On this occasion and a previous one approximately 2 years ago accidents occuring on the frontal portion of the vehicle failed to activate the air bag.the driver stuck the windshield with his head and cracked same and bent the steering whell as a result of the impact but the air bag did not activate and inflate.|daimler-chrysler was notified in both instances and they sent an investigator .on both occasions they had an explanation as to why it did not work neither of which explains why in a accident as serious as this in which the front right side (head light area) came in contact with a utility pole that resulted in enough damage to total the vehicleand the air bag did not deploy.my son driver could have been injured much more seriously that the bumps and bruises from emcountering the windshield and steering wheel.i contend that the system on this vehicle is not a safe deterent in an accident.
Other: air bag chip failure.
Airbag failure on impact twice, brake component failure 10 separate times, water pump failure at 50,000, differential noise and failure at 65,000, manifold cracked, motor mount, and transmission mounts failure at 74,000

Component (diode) on 60 pin pcm has a short causing injector number 6 to stick wide open.result is a cylinder compressing fuel which can lead to explosion, also raw fuel escaping out of the tail pipe and large amounts of smoke.gasoline pulls the oil off of cylinder wall causing excessive friction and engine damage along with catalytic converter damage.if rear ended when injector is sticking open could cause explosion or fire!i have confirmed this on 3 other 93-95 grand cherokee obd i models as well. Jeep was idling near someone welding and the injector stuck open and started a fire.fire was exstinguished immediately with dirt and water.no physical damages occurred just a scare.i moved injector 6 plug to 8, then 8 stuck open, upon putting pressure on the computer connector i realized the injector would operate normally again.been happening for months, just now found the root cause.will upload pics later if it will let me.i can set fire to the ground where the tailpipe is when injector is stuck open.
Complete electrical failure due to being parked in rain with front elevated which caused a leak in dashboard.
The contact owns a 1995 jeep grand cherokee. When trying to shut the vehicle off, the key was unable to be removed from the ignition switch. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. The vin was not available.
Electrical system failure, preventing vehicle from starting.*aw
Electrical system failure.
Electrical failure caused stalling/surging/battery short/computer crashes.
The evaporator leakes into the passenger compartment when the ac works, have been told that the accumulator is bad so it will not hold a charge.the speedometer will work sporadically, sometimes it works fine, other times it doesn't work at all, and the sometimes it bounces around, though the speed control still works even when speedometer does not.the speed sensor has been replaced and that has not made any difference. The clock on the radio as well as other display items will sometimes light up and other times not, like the wires are coming loose or something. The rear axle housing is bent even though it hasn't pulled anything heavy and has only been driven on paved roads for the 3 years before. Engine leaks oil from the intake manifold gasket and other areas. Have had to have the input and output seals replaced on the transmission twice.

Ignitioncoil result is stalling and inability to restart.
Distributor / cap / rotor failed twice, due to corrosion.
Coil of electrical ignition system failed suddenly while vehicle was being operated causing vehicle to stall and loss of power to sterring and brakes this interestingly happened just after the 75,000 warranty expiration.no one was hurt or damageto vehicle.overdrive to vehicle drive section was operating fine until 75,450 just after warranty expired and during trip fromaine to connecticut it unexpectedly began to put itself into overdrive on and off while vehicle was on cruise control set for 65 miles an hour.it became necessary to take vehicle off cruise control and operate vehicle with overdrive on to avoid sudden acceleration at moments when cruising in traffic going same speed, hazardous potential for accident if closer to vehicles or passing vehicles.
When driving at any speed or when making a left or right hand turnsvehicle will cut off without prior warning, causing loss of all power, power steering, etc. Consumer has contacteddealer, dealer unable to determine the cause.
Whenever vehicle slows down to make a turn or when coming to a stop, the engine cuts off.vehicle has been at dealership over (6) weeks, still cannot find the problem.

Jeep was parked and off and there was an electrical fire. Please describe .
The door jumper harness (p/n 5010265aa) caused the alarm to continually go off, the interior lights to flash off and on, and the radio to stop working.this is a constant fault on that year for vehicle due to the service manager at best buys in louisville, ky and other people i have spoken to that have this particular vehicle.

While driving vehcile it caught on fire.
Fuse box door fell off.
When turning off heater or air conditioner intermittently alarm will go off/ interior lights will flash, andhorn will go off. Vehicle taken to dealer 8-9 timesinpast 3 years, could not remedy. Recentlydealer replacedalarm module. However, itdid not remedy problem.
Tail light module lampfuse shorted out.
Fuse box door fell off.
While driving, the fan blower for the defroster/heater quit, later consumer noticed there was no change in air circulation from the fan when changed from low to high, consumer removed the dash cover and heater control assembly and saw where the switch/connector and adjacent wiring had melted, dealer ordered a replacement switch and connector and the consumer found a wiring harness at a salvage yard from another jeep cherokee.
When i test drove the vehicle, the electric windows did not work.the dealer had their mechanic look at it and pronounced that the "fuse was loose."i subsequently purchased the vehicle and have driven approximately 1,000 miles and the windows did not work today.i checked the fuse and it was very hot.after it cooled down, i started the car and checked to see if the windows would work.they did, but very very slowly for about 1/2 inch.i turned off the vehicle and started it up again to try to roll up the window.i got the window up and checked the fuse again.it was very hot.i suspect there is an electrical wiring problem the dealer did not disclose to me.what should i do?
The wiring harness driver's door wires are broken, causing window to be inoperable, consumer states that other wires are broken and defraying.
Air bag replaced however continues to experience electrical wiring harness failure causing air bag light to come on.
Wiring harness under the dashboard hasshorted out, causingmany components, such as door locks, and windows, to short out. Dealer has been notified.

The contact owned a 1995 jeep grand cherokee. After driving for approximately 15 minutes and parking the vehicle, the contact noticed flames under the hood. The fire department extinguished the flames. The vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
It acts as though it is shifting gears but it isn't, then within 5 miles it dies. We have replaced plugs, wires, battery, all kinds of sensors, the computers and still it will not go 10 miles before shutdown. Then i have to wait 15 minutes, before it will start back up to even go down the road. I live 30 miles from a dealership to even have it put on the computer. It would take me all day to drive it to get there just to hopefully find out what is wrong. I can't afford to keep trying this part and that part just to even try to get to work. When it is below 65 degrees outside then i can drive it upto 20 miles, but that is even taking a chance in getting stranded.
After years of few problems, my 1995 jeep grand cherokee stopped running.the engine died and could not be re-started.the vehicle was towed to a mechanic who worked on it for years and he is unable to find the problem.the computerized diagnostics show that there is no problem with the electronics but the mechanic can not get it operating.
Speed control would work sometimes. 1. When ever i drive my jeep grand cherokee for an extended time it starts to shudder. 2. After i accelerate to 50 to 60 and let off the gas a little the car starts shuddering.3i attempted to fix it by replacing my transmission but this did not help!
My husband and son left the house and was driving about a block away when a car pulled up and yelled your truck is on fire get out. They pulled over and got out and ran and within seconds the entire truck was in flames, before the fire department got there the truck was completely in flames and door were melting off. Thank god my family got out, however i have been calling the special investigation dept. On recall notice everyday under case no. 25700953 and everyday no one will assist me. I am now without a truck and no one will assist.
Airbag failure on impact twice, brake component failure 10 separate times, water pump failure at 50,000, differential noise and failure at 65,000, manifold cracked, motor mount, and transmission mounts failure at 74,000
Vehicle purchased with approximately 39800 miles on the odometer. This failure of the water pump at 55000 miles seems very premature. Mechanic at garage where repair was made remarked that he had seen several failures of water pumps in chrysler products recently. While not directly a safety problem, there could be more of this type of failure as vehicles from this model year reach the 50000 to 65000 mileage region.

Engine cooling lines & the evaporator core had to be replaced due to fluid leaking. This would happen when vehicle is parked or while driving. Also, vehicle would hesitate or jerk due to leakage of transmission fluid.
While driving smoke began coming from underneath the vehicle.*nlm
While driving 60 mph vehicle stalled. As a result, power steering and power brakes failed. Consumer was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road.
Motor mounts failed.
The engine mount has worn off and the manufacturer is refusing to recognize this as a manufacturing problem.
When vehicle went in for routine maintenance, dealer stated 3 engine mounts and the tranmission mounts had failed and needed replacement.one engine mount had been replaced previously on 8/5/97.it appears that these parts failed due to a manufacturing or design defect.this is not anitem that should fail on a vehicle that is just over five years old and has not been driven off-road.when the dealer was questioned, i was told that the part is poorly designed and tends to go out about this time.the manufacturer refused to replace the parts.this is a major rip-off on a part that is failing prematurely because of manufacturing flaws.
The vehicle was involved in a collision, and the vehicle burst into flames upon impact. There were 2 injuries.
While driving at low speeds or at stop sign/light, the motor would start to die out for no reason. It would later kick back in& surge on its own. Will be taking vehicle to dealership to have it checked.
Engine mounts failed at 38,000 miles.
Motor mount failed. Mjs
Lert front motor mount broken, so when the engine torqued it would pull on the leads coming out of the crank sensor and chafed through the leads and shorted out the engine (stall).

Exhaust manifold cracked at the weld seam where the two exhaust ducts join into a single pipe and just before the elbow connect between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe, the manifold does not allow for the natural expansion and contraction of the metal, the new models have a redesigned manifold reengineered not to crack from natural thermal stress.all differential bearings replaced due to growling sound.motor mount replaced.
Engine mounts have prematurely worn which has caused severe vibration infront end ofvehicle.consumer took vehicle to dealer for recall and also informed dealer of a loud clunk sound when transmission shifts into different gears and of a fluid leak around the transmission, dealer stated transfer case seals needed replaced and main crank seal needed replaced, tech also informed consumer that the enginemounts were torn loose, consumer seemed concerned because vehicle had never been taken off road.
The left front motor mount was broken causing the vehicle to shut off then start again.

The oil leak is severe, one quart every twodays or 20 mile of city driving.
When jeep was taken to dealership for recall repair on thebrake rotors, owner was informed that two engine mounts and one transmission mount was gone, which could cause the engine to fall.repairs will be made at owner's expense. Please provide any further information.
While drivingon the highway vehicle would start to buck. Speed played no factor. Thenvehicle would die out after trying to exit a ramp. Would have no other warning, except bucking when it would stall out. Had not taken vehicle to dealer to check.
Vehicle stalling condition continually.
When driving at 35 mph the vehicle loses all power without prior warning. Wnen pressing down on the gas pedal the vehicle loses all power. Also, when braking the vehicle will slow down, but not like the power brakes suppose to work. The vehicle stalls at times.vehicle has been in the shop five times, andis back in the shop again. They still can't determine the problem.
Ongoing problem with loss of power. Vehicle been to dealer shop, and replaced battery once, and the problem still reoccurring.feel free to provide any futher details on this matter.

Exhaust manifold developed 1-inch crack at main stem.very loud noise when engine was running.i was told by dealer that a new manifold would cost $1000 for parts & labor.luckily, i was able to find a used manifold and was only charged $300 to have it installed with a new gasket.i did not use this vehicle off-road and i can only assume that the wrong metal was used to design this manifold. Ts
Exhaust system leaking, dealer replaced muffler and exhaust manifold.nlm
This crack is pervasive with 91-97 jeeps. All dealership and private-label mechanics are aware of the issue. Jeep is aware of it because in several states (incl. Ca) they increased the warratny to 80,000 miles for the exhaust, and beginning with 97 jeep models, began using better quality materials for the exhaust. The problem is fracture cracks caused by uneven contraction/expansion due to heat/cold. The process is uneven because the metal used for the exhaust is not the appropriate quality. I believe this is an inherent defect and thus is a breach of jeep's implied warranty of merchatability for jeep. Consequently, i'm asking nhtsa's assistance in forcing jeep to recall these vehicles. The repairs cost about $1,000 at the jeep dealers.

Case and all internal parts; seals and gaskets are covered have a added care service contract 7/100 .under transmission it is clearly written.
My exhaust manifold has defective welds causing a very noticeable exhaust leak in engine compartment. Took to independent muffler shop they inforrmed me tthis was a very common problem with the 4.0l jeep.manifold needs to be replaced.also power windows on both front doors quit working and sometimes right rear window doesn"t work.transmission: sometimes it will go hard in reverse jerking the whole vehicle. Sometimes when you put it in drive it will jerk suddenly making the engine quit or go evvven with your foot on the brake.i use this vehicle for family outings and i'm concern with this problems. Grand cherokee are very pricey when new and i feel that this jeep has not impressed me any with the workmanship or quality. The designer for this vehicle must have been the same one for yugo. Thank youp.s. The motor itself is too noisy for this luxurious suv, should be in a mack truck.
Dating back to 2 years ago, i had a jeep dealer check the exhaust system for a "fluttery" noise, which i thought sounded like an exhaust leak.it was checked and the catalytic converter was replaced under emissions warranty.four months later i took the jeep back due the problem never having been fixed.the dealer checked it out and tightened the exhaust clamps.this made no difference, but i was told everything is normal and took the fluttery noise as the "normal" engine/exhaust noisejeep makes. Recently i took my jeep to have various fluid leaks repaired ($500 worth) at my cost, at which time the dealer notified me that my exhaust manifold is cracked and would cost $1,000 (est.) to repair.i was told that no warranty would cover it and since i had close to 90,000 miles on the vehicle i didn't have options to have jeep take care of the problem.the noise i have been hearing all along has been a cracked manifold, so the problem first manifested itself when my vehicle had 52,000 miles.this just does not seem what one should expect from a vehicle at 52,000 miles.i am looking to find out if there have been many other similar problems and what my recourse options are.thanks for your help!
I understand this problem has been going on for years..please see what you can do..this is a safety concern...carbon minoxide entering the vehicle due to a leak...thanks.

Exhaust manifold has cracked weld.door pins worn or broken causing door to have extreme sag when opened.
Exhaust manifold weld and seams to engine have and are failing. Exhaust leaks and makes loud noise in the engine compartment area. I contacted daimler/chrysler about problem and they have not issued any bulletins ore recalls for this very costly and dangerous repair. Currently there are 4 official complaints on file with nhtsa without any further action having been taken.
Engine manifold was replaced at 27,000/ 73,000/125,000 miles, and again at 155,000.dealer notified.

Evaporator leaks into car. Mechanic says its a bad design and i need to bring it in every 6 months or so which is what i have done the past two years i've owned this car. Despite repalcing evaporator core three times, mechanic says design of drain into the vehicle frame cause it to continuously block up. There is nothing that can be done to permanently fix this issue. The smell from the water that leaks into the car, passenger rear seat floor board, is horrendous. My daughter sits here, and is having allergic reactions to it. I use this car for business and cannot seat my passengers in it when it is leaking. It is extremely expesive and time-consuming to have the dash taken apart every 6 months to clean the evaporator case or replace the core.
The air conditioner housing leaks to the interior, under the carpet. The dealership suggested a quick that didn't workthe body shop says this is a common problem that would be expensive.the dealership then said if the quickfix didn't work, they would need to replace the housing, which would require removing the entire dash: over $600 to complete the job.if this is a common problem, jeep should have recalled it a long time ago and fixed it.
Vehicle will lurch forward when stopping and transmission is in drive. A/c wont hold charge.
Air conditioner evaporator cracked causing leaks.
Took vehicle to anchor jeep to fix several times, never completely fixed--still blew hot air--later found out it needed everything--compressor, evaporator, condenser, lines, etc. --of course by this time warranty was out.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Outside temperature sensing system developed an intermittent short.
A/c line repaired.
A/c constantly blows fuses, dealer says it is a/c, private mechanic says it is electrical.
Air conditioner would leak freon onto engine. Have taken to dealership for repair ofleak.air conditioner duct tube fell out of position at one point onto drivers foot, this caused some loss of control, however consumer was able to regain control.
In 1998 my a/c stopped cooling.i had it gased up and was told that there was a leak but it was repaired.this year in may i turned my a/c on only to find out that it is not cooling again this year.i called a jeep dealership and was told that the evaporation core was defective on some jeep models and that they would have to run a dye test to see if that was the problem.it is going to cost me $325.00 just to have the test done.please give me information on whether or not there is a defective evaporation core on a 1995 jeep grand cherokee.
Engine cooling lines & the evaporator core had to be replaced due to fluid leaking. This would happen when vehicle is parked or while driving. Also, vehicle would hesitate or jerk due to leakage of transmission fluid.
Air conditionerwas not working , air was blowing, but not cooling.vehicle was taken to a jeep dealer, and evaporator was leaking.dealer said itwasa common problem injeeps. They recognized thedesign flaw, but will not cover it.consumer would have to pay $629.00.
Air conditioner leakswater onto the passenger carpet, causing the carpet to be soaked.dealer cannot determinecause of theproblem.please provide further information.
A/c evaporator drain blockage.caused 1/2" water to overflow on the passenger side floorboard.both seats had to be taken out and carpet taken up in order to dry out.

Fuel pump kept going out. Consumer was told that it was gas tank.
When my jeep wouldn't start, i had it towed to my local dealer (norco jeep, pottstown,pa). The fuel pump had drawn sediment from the tank, and both had to be replaced, the tank was on backorder till 1/15. I rented a car to get to work. I called 1/14 to check, and the backorder was now till 1/31. I contacted other dealers. One told me he replaces dozens of tanks per winter, and another said the tank had been on backorder since 9/2001. I contacted jeep by e-mail (ref# 9538888). They asked to contact me by phone. I agreed. Robert weaver had his parts dept locate a suitable tank and contacted my svc manager. He was unable to locate a tank in this area, so i put him in touch with jeep in michigan, who put him in touch with a parts outlet there, which shipped a tank that proved to be unsuitable. The svc manager contacted the tank supplier, and the new delivery date had been pushed back to 2/8, and there were over 135 fuel tanks on order for this model!! there is apparently a design flaw that does not allow for a filter to be placed between the tank and the pump, thereby allowing sediment to foul the pump. Eventually, the dealer discovered a suitable way to clean my tank (which could have been done the day my jeep was towed). Since the fuel pump has a 12-mo 12,000 mi warranty, i decided to cut my losses and have them perform the procedure. To the best of my knowledge, the fuel tank has never been delivered. There were 3 other jeeps at my dealer awaiting tanks when mine was towed in. I have driven over 3 million miles in my life, mostly in chrysler products, and i have never had to replace a fuel tank that didn't have a hole in it. I still own a 1968 plymouth gtx with over 300,000 miles that has never had the tank replaced. There is obviously a flaw in the design, and i should not have to pay $1530.00 and miss time from work (1.5 days) due to a poor design. I finally got my car back 1/24-20 days after it was towed. This flaw should be a recall, and i should be reimbursed.

My fuel pump failed, costing me $600 for a new pump + $300 to "flush" the gas tank.i was told by the repair shop (hoselton jeep, fairport, ny) that these failures are an "epidemic" in 95/96 jeeps.evidently faulty manufacturer of the fuel system causes fuel tank problems that result in fuel pump failure.my small dealer says he has to fix 200-300 of these each year.if you multiply that by the number of jeep dealers/shops that repair jeeps, the number nationwide must be in the tens of thousands or more.daimler/chrysler/jeep refuses to admit there is a problem, but this seems to be a clear manufacturing defect if there ever was one.

Ongoing problem with defective fuel pumps; replaced fuel pumps on three occasionssince sep, 1998 to presen. This failure could cause a vehicle collision while on the road or freeway. Nhtsa needs to look into this matter.

Two fuel pumps have failed. Consumer's independent mechanic stated that fuel tank was not compatible with gas. Fuel tank material inside is crumbling causing the pump to clog up.dealer stated that tank is a common failure and must be replaced, consumer feels the fuel tank is made from recycled materials which are not chemically resistant to gasoline causing the tank's interior to disintegrate.
The plastic fuel tank of the 1995 jeep grand cherokee was discribed to me as "deteriorating"by the dealership service department today. This deterioration has caused the fuel pump to fail a number of times, with some occuring in traffic. Three fuel pumps have been replaced in the last 12 months before the underlyingdeterioration of gas tank was discovered. The tank deterioration is causing the fuel pump failures. I have found numerous instances on the world wide web of other jeep owners complaining of the same problem. Many have yet to discover that the fuel tank and not the pump is the root of the problem. If this tank is deteriorating, is it still safe in a rear end collision. Have there been instances of stalled jeeps involved in accidents? has chrysler acknowledged the problem?
Comsumer stated the the gas tank was replaced at a local garage, however chrysler refused to reimburse for repairs, because the work was not performed at an authorized chrysler dealer.*td

Fuel pump failure, towed to my local mechanic(not dealer).a new pump was installed and when the mechanic got it from the dealership, they said to look for algae in the tank.they did so,and there was none!i picked up the jeep and drove 40 miles only to have it stop running again.after having it towed back in again, only to find out another fuel pump had failed.the mechanic called the dealership to tell them of the second failure and to get a replacement;they told him to replace the tank along with the fuel pump because the tanks have been deteriorating and causing the fuel pump failures.the replacement tank from jeep has been redesigned and carries a new part number, thus recognizing a defect! they also admitted to changing 6 other tanks for that reason just last month!(with fuel pumps).this flaw is obvious to the dealers and they aren't going to be calling you to initiate a recall i wouldn't think;so maybe some investigation is necessary just to verify the obvious.i'm $1300.00 in the hole for an obvious manufacturers flaw.please notify me of the what has to be recall(reimbursemet). Thank you

We have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee that has an exposed plastic gas tank in the rear and it has no protection if rear-ended it is a fire or explosion waiting to happen! the jeep dealer installed a flimsy trailer hitch that exposes the tank even more than the after market hitch i removed to get the jeep dealers fix. We are very disappointed and believe our life is in danger every time we drive our 95 jeep grand cherokee lerado. They should install a stronger tank along with a very strong skid plate that bends up behind the tank to add to protecting the tank. Along with a much stronger hitch.

We went to sternberg (jeep dealer) in jasper indiana to get the recall problem fixed and they told us it was too rusted and they could not do the needed repairs because of the rust.they did not give us any options as to how to fix this issue with the fuel tank.we have to drive this vehicle because we can not afford to purchase a new vehicle.we can not sell this vehicle because it can not be fixed.so we will be driving around with a vehicle that could explode or catch fire if we are in an accident.i am very upset by this and i really thought the government would do more to help the average consumer.i do know that if anything happens to myself or my family or my dogs my attorney will be contacting you and the jeep manufacturer.please let me know how this can be remedied so no one in my family is injured by this vehicle and not driving it is not an option.i believe this would be the case with most of americans as employment is a little difficult to get right now.

My son was driving my 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo at 30 miles/hour when the truck suddenly accelerated with loss of all brake power causing him to drive up onto a parked car which caused the jeep to overturn onto the driver's side.luckily for him, he sustained only a small cut from the driver's side window breaking on impact and was cleared medically when he was taken to the hospital via ambulance.a police car happened to be following him and witnessed this incident.when the officer ran to the jeep after the accident and helped my son climb out of the passenger side, he made my son turn off the jeep because the engine was still revving and sounded like it was racing although my son was not pressing the gas petal (he was standing on the seat).

The contact owns a 1995 jeep grand cherokee. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: (02v053000 (power train) and 13v252000 (fuel system, gasoline, structure) months ago and contacted the dealer to schedule the recall repair appointments, the dealer stated that they would follow up to provide an available appointment and the dealer never called to schedule the repairs. In addition, the contact was driving at a highway rate of speed over un-leveled land and the vehicle was shaking violently with a "death wobble". A mechanic inspected the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet inspected and diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the recall repairs so the contact was waiting for them to determine if they may be able to provide a solution and address the two recall repairs with the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Parts distribution disconnect.
This vehicle has experienced repeated and unexplained failures of the cranking sensor (six at this time in a two-year period), causing the loss of engine without warning. This has occurred while the vehicle was idling and also at road speed, increasing the possibility of a severe accident. From various online searches it appears that thousands of these unexplained failures are occurring to other jeep vehicles. The cause for the failures has yet to be determined.

Dt:1995 jeep grand cherokee, consumer feels that the vehicle was unsafe anddealerrefused to acknowledgeconsumer's safety concern. Dealership will not write down the safety concerns substituted terms like it felt differentlyinstead of consumer's safety concerns ,the vehicle has already had the secondary detent system offloor shifter in a recall, the item that was used to replace the recalled part was unsafe, dealer told the consumer that the gear shift should feel different.gear shift will not stay in gear.consumerfound that the automatic stick shift will still move even when the release button has not been pushed, the gear shifter does not line up with the letters (p, n, r, etc.
The vehicle was parked when it suddenly began to move in reverse.the vehicle rolled across a street and crashed into a parked vehicle.there were two small children belted in the back seat of the vehicle at the time of the accident.the were no injuries.
Safety recall warning b02 shift detent fix caused new additional problems.(1.) shift mechanism binds, but don't appear to have positive position lock into park indication.binding could be a possible problem for people with disability or limited strength.(2.)shift lever can be moved with very little (virtually no) resistance from a reverse position, thru neutral, and into drive.an inadvertant shift of such manner could cause damage to transmission.(3.)shift lever can be moved with little (virtually no) resistance from drive to neutral which could cause an enginge overspeed if inadvertantly occurs and if in cruise.this sudden disengagement of the transmission could also cause a sudden slow down without warning to following traffic creating a highway safety hazard.dt

Vehicle would be reluctant to shift out of 4 wheel drive. Grinding noises would be heard when trying to steer the jeep. Finally, a 2 x 3 inch chunk blew out of the housing of the transfer case assembly. After researching the nhtsa site, it looks like many have had problems with this assembly.
Transmission failed. *dsh

1995 jeep grand cherokee, 318v8 all time-all wheel drive.294 transfer case.59,900 miles. Transmission has been replaces 3 times and is slipping again. I have spoken with several auto repair places and other 1005 jeep owners and the all say the air conditioning system and transmission in the 1995 jeep grand cherokee have issues. I also replaced the a/c and it is not cooling that great anymore- maybe freon but the transmission is a joke. Will never buy another jeep!!!!!!
Consumer just putvehicle in park and took the key out of the ignition, and then leftvehicle inside. Then, vehicle fell out of gear and rolled backwards into another vehicle. Has not cantacted dealer yet.
When driving through town at 35 mph vehical would accelerate on its own ,took it to an independent machanic whose findings are transmission is shot pan was full of metal shavings is going to cost 1500.to replace.transmission should last way longer than 74,000mi.i have a suburban with over 250,000mi and original everything.
With only 42,958 miles, the transmission started to make a whining sound when in reverse, neutral and forward.a few months ago it would not engage in reverse twice.*la when the consume took the vehicle in for an oil change, and to have the noise checked out, the consumer was informed the transmission had a lot of internal damage.
The retainer on the shift linkage inside of the transmission body can fall off or fail and the transmission will not lock in park. When this occurs the operator can put the transmission into park and think that the transmission is locked up but it is not. Then the operator can get out of the vehicle and if it is on any incline at all the vehicle can and will roll away out of control. This happened to my wife at the exact moment that i was about to walk between the rear of my truck and the front of the forementioned jeep cherokee. If i had not seen it start rolling i would of had both my legs crushed between the two bumpers. As it was i jumped back and watched the jeep roll into my truck. It didn't hit hard enough to damage either vehicle but if i had been between them they probably would had cut my legs off. I took this vehicle to louisburg garage, cuba city, wi. To be repaired and they were the dealership that repaired the problem. They had to remove the valve body from the transmission to repair the linkage. They were the ones who told me that the retainer had failed. If this happens to anybody else the results could be disastrous with maybe someone getting maimed or killed.
Engine cooling lines & the evaporator core had to be replaced due to fluid leaking. This would happen when vehicle is parked or while driving. Also, vehicle would hesitate or jerk due to leakage of transmission fluid.
I have been able to inspect many grand cherokees and notice that the majority pre 1996 had leakage problems. Those problems were either with the transmission seals leaking or engine seals leaking. I feel this is caused by a poor craftmanship or materials. I personally have had this problem for at least 4 years now, but i have seen many that have fairly low mileage that are having the same problem. This is something that should be looked into for resolution.
Transmission cooling unit leaking fluid.nlm
When the vehicle is in park on any grade, shift indicator showing that the vehicle is engaged in the parking gear, the vehicle will roll.the problem has been reported to the dealership which stated to consumer that there is a service bulletin on the subject. The owner is in the process of repairing the vehicle at a cost of $600.00 dollars.
Front and rear transfer cases must be aligned properly at manufacturing.the front transfer case was set up wrong, causing extreme gear wear.mechanic indicated that dealership knew of the problem and still sold the car.this problem can cause sudden failure and sudden stoppage.
Many of the problems i have had with this vehicle could have caused a fatal crash. There are many failures apparently not being addressed by chrysler. 4 wheel drive does not disengage in front wheels.binds during tight turns.command-trac system.
After the vehicle has been driven for at least an hour, either from a dead stop or a very slow speed, wheni turn a sharp right corner, the steering mechanism in the transfer case lockes up and the vehicle 'hops' into the rest of the turn.this happens mostly when i am making a sharp turn into a parking space.there have been only several times whensteering while turning a corner has seemed to 'grab'. It is the disc coupler gear in the transfer case.the repair will cost about $1200.i already have had the automatic transmission rebuilt by the dealership, which is kempthorn's in canton, ohio.
Faulty design--should be a recall due to #'s of occurences--viscous coupler--causes hard steering after extended travel times--causes 4wd to engage which can cause serious accidents, vehicle damage, injury and death. Very expensive repair.
On 3 separate appointments after waiting 2 1/2 - 3 hours to haverecall 02v053000repairs performed consumer was told that parts were not available.

When the spare tire is used, while in 4- wheel drive mode, front differential overheats, and the vehicle gets stuck in 4-wheel drive. Manufacturer has been notified.a recall has been issued on similar explorer's. However, this vehicle was not included.manufacturer was not notified.
The rear end/differential of the vehicle caught fire while driving.review by dealership where towed to so far indicates no apparent parts failure in the rear end, although there may be something wrong in the front differential and/or transfer case, and becasue full-time 4wd, may have contributed.regardless, dealership in fairfax, va, where bought, did not identify problem when taken for service twice in proceeding two-threee months w/complaints regading the front end "binding" during turns.fire was cooking the gas tank, happily, a fire extinguisher was available to put out the fire before the car burned up.fire dept (gettysburg, pa) did follow-up extinuishing, etc.police on the scene.reported here because i've heard differiantial failure not uncommon for this vehicle, and the fire under the gas tank was certainly is a major hazard.(i had three kids in the car, one in child seat).jeep supposedly initiating a "third - party investigation."
Failure of full time 4- wd power train resulted in $3900 damage and fire.real axle and differential, front differential, and transfer case had to be replaced.dealer and jeep, inc said problem due to different brands of tires on car with minute variations in size determined by measuring with a measuring tape -- although all were correct size as indicated in the owner's manual.consumers need notice of this unreasonable risk.
While driving engineexploded andcaught on fire. Dealer said it was due to the driveshaft and transfer case malfunctioning.dealer has fixedvehicle 5 times since the explosion.
Transfer case failure.
The tranfer case has repaired for leaks 3 times
We had a tire blow out. We pulled over & changed the passenger rear tire with (unused factory supplied spare). Tires on the vehicle were to factory spec. Then drove a total of aproximately 25-28 miles. Owners manual said drive 50 miles an hour and less than 50 miles distance. Approx 10 miles from the flat, there was a strange smell and the jeep started surging. We pulled over at about ten and twenty mile distances to make sure something wasn't leaking or rubbing under the vehicle. Finding nothing we proceded to drive home. When we got home there was a oil/grease looking material running out from the front driverside of the engine compartment, and smoke coming from under the hood. We took it to a local shop the next day. The shop owner said the transfer case had overheated and blown the grease out into the engine compartment. He then called the nearest jeep dealer approximately 40 miles. Their service manager said that some of the jeep grand cherokees had been recalled because the spare tire was not to be used. I called the jeep customer service line and explained to them what happened. They gave me a case number 7077341, and told me that i would have to tow the jeep to the dealer on a flat bed (to not further damage the vehicle) for them to inspect it before they would decide to pay anything on it. After i delivered it to the radcliff dealer on a flat trailer they called back and said that it was damaged and that the would submit the claim to chrysler. We were told on the 28th by the jeep dealer's service manager that jeep would not pay anything because we were the third owner. The vehicle had never had any trouble before and were happy with it. No where in the owners manual did it state that you will damage your vehicle if you use the spare tire supplied by the factory. We don't see how we could be at fault for using the equipment provided by jeep in the manner told. We were told that this is well known by jeep, but they will not give any help on the repairs.
I have researched my problem and found that many people who own the jeep grand cherokee limited with quadra-trac 4wd system are experiencing the same problem i am.after driving the vehicle long enough to bring it up to operating conditions, the transfer case will clunk and cause the front end to bind whenever i try to make a right or left turn.the problem can be attributed to a component called the viscous coupling in the vehicle's transfer case.it seems to be extremely common in the 93-97 jeep grand cherokee era.from what i have read and experienced, the problem can begin on vehicles with as little as 57,000 miles on them.mine in particular began at about 75,000 miles.when the jeep is taken to the dealer, the binding and noise is blamed on some other component (i.e. Cv joints, front differential, or some other part) probably due to complacency and/or lack of knowledge of the mechanic.this can be very costly as the average person ends up replacing and paying for components that are still serviceable.it can also be unsafe as it can leave someone unexpectedly stranded.after research, hours of endless poking around my vehicle, and finding out what the actual culprit was i found that prices ranged anywhere from $600.00 for the viscous coupling in the transfer case to $1600.00 for the transfer case itself.please refer to the following website for one of many examples:http://forums.vmag.com/jjgrandcherokee0499/messages/6255.htmli would like to know why nothing has been done to correct this problem by chrysler, i.e recall, improve the quadra-trac system for that era, or otherwise.they took it upon themselves to recall a few jeeps to replace brake rotors for corrosion and separation.why wasn't something put into place for the quadra-trac 4wd transfer case as well?i hope this is what your web page is designed for. I'm not quite sure what to expect out of this, but if you have any questions for me, please feel free to contact me.lloyd.

I have provided the details, due to a news article that i have just read, that the nhtsa is investigating a possible defect with the 1995 model of the jeep grand cherokee inadvertently going into reverse. On the morning of 12/20/1994 @ 5.30 am it was very cold, and i drove my jeep out of the garage, put it into park, and got out of my jeep to close the garage doors, leaving my drivers door open, and after about a minute i heard the jeep's engine tone change, looked up to see the jeep reversing back, i just managed to get out of the way, and the jeep came back into the garage, removing the open drivers door. I reached in as it was moving and turned the ignition off. I knew the vehicle had a problem, and it was looked at by both the dealer and the manufacturer, who refused to repair under warranty. Although today i no longer own the vehicle, the dealer has all the complaint details. About 1 year later, the same problem happened again in a car park with the same vehicle. My wifeand i pulled into a car parking bay, put the vehicle into park, left the engine running whilest we sat in the car and talked, suddenly after about 30 secs the jeep started to move back. Again i quickly turned the ignition off. Again i complained to the dealer, who remembered the same problem earlier, but stated that jeep had not issued any recall if there was an problem, so once again they just past it off as misoperation on my part. I would be extremely pleased to support the nhtsa with any further help/info, due to my experience, i know a real defect exists with this model/year of jeep.

The car was parked, at a close range, facing the the wall next to my garage doors. When it was put to reverse in order to back up for maneuvering, the car drove forward instead, hitting the wall. I tried a number of times to set it on reverse but each time it would only go forward. Even on neutral, it would go forward.no serious damage resulted because the car was very close to the wall when it first went forward instead of backwards and after that it was pressed against the wall. I tried to contact the manufacturer but it was closed because it is a saturday. I did contact the dealer but i was told that "something must have broken". Since i read so many reports on incidents with jeep 1995's automatic transmission i thought i should reportthis incident immediately.

After the vehicle has been run on the highway for approximately 30 miles, the transfer case locks up, making it very difficult to make any turns.it is scrubbing rubber off the edges of the tires, and the transfer case makes a racheting sound when attempting to turn.i wrote daimlerchrysler customer assistance on july 18, 2000 but have not received any reply from them.this is the second failure of this component, the first at 17167 miles on 07/09/96.this vehicle is not safe to drive over 25 miles until i get this problem corrected.
My front differential needs a major overhaul again.this will be the second.it was replaced at 21000 miles and now, less than 40000 miles later it needs to be replaced again.i have contaced the manufacture and they refuse acknowledge any type of design problem. Since i have exceeded the mfg warranty, they don't want to have anything to do with me.i researched in nhtsa and have found numerous similar complaints.this is becoming costly.

All the bearings in the front differential keep failing causing excessive noise and vibration.this has happened about 5 times.it started around 35,000 miles.
While traveling at approximatley 65mph a load knock and vibration began in the front of the car.i pulled of the road and nothing appeared to be leaking so i continued.everything seemed to be alright until the steering became loose and a terrible smell started to come out of the differential.the differential apparently has overheated and began to release the oil onto the engine block.the dealer mechanic first thought the problem was the cv joints and axles, he replaced them for $500.the problem continued!then he replaced the hub and bearing assemblies when a noise, consistent with the vehicle speed started.that was another $500!i have now spent $1000 and the problem is still not fixed and apparently this is problem many jeep owners have encountered.it is time they fix this problem!

My wife put the jeep in park and left it idling to go back into our house to rtieve something she had forgotte. Once in the house she heard a loud noise and looked out and saw that the jeep had crashed into a tree located just behind where she had left it in park. I called the jeep business where i have been having it serviced for the past few years and asked if they had a record of this type malfunction and or a recall cotice for the problem. They checked their computer and told me that they did not. I had it repaired which cost state farm and probaly a rate hike for me and a $500 deduct that i paid, plusa $275 car rental fee i had to pay to have a car for thee weeks. Later i saw an article saying that several people had the same problem and i called chrysler about a month ago and they cold shouldered me, and stated that they were not accepting responsibility. I want to kanow how to proceed to get my expenses back and get the problem fixed before someone is killed.

Rusted, defective disc rotors compromised the brake's performance in an emergency situation.in heavy traffic, on a two lane road, there was an accident ahead, drivers slammed on their brakes, but my son was unable to stop quickly enough and hit the '84 volvo ahead of him.my son was cited for following too closely, although he does not think he was following too closely.vehicular damage appeared very minor, but the other driver is claiming that his '84 volvo is totaled.the impact was at very low speed.my son received no injuries, and his airbag did not deploy.the other driver complained of a headache and backache, saw his doctor, was treated with naprosyn (alleve), and is fine.we had received no information from chrysler about the recall on the front brake rotors. We found out about the recall the next day (1/21/2000) when it was announced on cnn.i called chrysler and had the recall performed.(our jeep was affected because it had been housed in ohio prior to 8/99 when we bought it).the receipt from the dealer for the recall work says the rotors were defective. After the new rotors were installed we noticed a very signigicant difference in stopping ability.i reported this to chrysler, requested that a test of stopping time/ability with the old rotors and with the new rotors be done, but chrysler refused.if we had been informed of the recall, we could have had the rotors replaced and avoided the accident.i understand that rotors are a wear item, but obviously, rust causes metal to wear and thin more quickly.we believe the rusted rotors adversely affected the ability of the brakes to stop our jeep quickly enough in an emergency situation.

The front doors on this vehicle model are defective!!!! the metal holding the door latch is defect / weak causing the latch to tear away from the sheetmetal and recess inside the door. The door opens while turning as slowly as 5 mph; the driver side door will no longer latch closed nor will the lock engage and secure the door.on 3/3/2014 while driving my daughter to school, this incident happened to us.luckily there was no oncoming traffic and i didn't lose control of the vehicle. What did happen was i had to over-extend my left shoulder to grab the driver's door after it flung open, spraining my shoulder. To date i have randomly spoken with 12 other jeep owners of the same model, inulster county, ny; all having the same defect in either the driver or passenger front door of this model vehicle.this is a serious safety hazard that needs to be recognized and repaired by jeep!i have spoken to the local jeep dealer and he acknowledged this year is flawed by design in this area, & was specifically re-designed due to customer complaints.
Right door fell off.
Right rear door failed, could not open.
Front driver's side door is becoming increasingly harder to close or open, started jan 2002, now door will not stay closed. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer stated that it was a design flaw and wants to charge for a new door and paint job.
Wiring harness under the dashboard hasshorted out, causingmany components, such as door locks, and windows, to short out. Dealer has been notified.
The bottom hinge on the driver's side door has broken away from the frame. The dealer was notified about the problem. The problem has not been corrected.
While vehicle was being drivendriver's door opened, causing driver to nearly fall from vehicle due to insufficient welding.please give any further details.
Premature wear of door hinge pins caused my door to sag. This sag causes a misalignment of the door lock and the pillar pin.eventually the door structure around the lock breaks due to stress and the result is the door cannot be closed or held against the car. The door creates a dangerous safety concern as the door can come open upon operation of the vehicle. My door cannot be shut because of this condition and even in the event of a minor accident the door come open and cause serious injury to the driver.
Driver's side door lower hinge wore out and became loose, causing the door to sag. The latch mechanism was misaligned, and the door becamedetached from the mount position.the vehicle door would not close due to the latch mechanism failing.*tc

Driver top hinge appear to be shear off causing door to hang down; making it hard to close properly. Dealer notifed, will not repairs unless cost go to consumer.
While driving the rear hatchback will pop open on its own.consumer says it could be the wind coming through windows forcing hatch open.please provide any furtherinformation.ts
Please note: my brother in law originally purchased the jeep from said dealer. I in turn purchased the jeep from him in june 2001.december 8, 2002 i had gone to the grocery store in my hometown of pearland, texas.after shopping i went to put the groceries in the back of the jeep.i lifted the liftgate or hatcback whichever they refer to it.i then started unloading the groceries. As i leaned into the vehicle to put groceries in, i was standing up and coming back out to retrieve more groceries. At that time without any warning the liftgate just gave way and it was not a slow descend, it was as if the hydraulics had gone out completely. Therefore the lifgate hit me on the crown of my head. I was a little dazed, and i put my hand on top of my head to feel for big knot and when i came down with my hand it was covered in blood. A lady finished loading my groceries, and locked my vehicle. I was taken inside the store any our city ems was called to the scene. They checked me out and gave me the option of going to the hospital or my local physician, which i choose my doctor over sitting in a waiting room for hours. Upon seeing my doctor i was required 3 stitches to my head due to the injury. So now i will not even open the lifgate for fear i will be hurt again. I do not have the money to spend on the dealership and i feel this is a defectin the hydraulics. There are no warnings signs indicating something like this could happen, and there is nothing in the manual that tells you hyraulics need to be chacked after so many miles, etc. I would like jeep to pay to have my vehicle feixed and also i would like to be reimbursed fro doctors visit by them. I think this is only fair. As well as letting others know there could be a problem with their vehicles as well. This could have been a lot more serious problem with an elderly or small child. I can say it scared me bad. And i am very lucky i was not hurt worse. Any information i can get from you would be very much appreciated.

Vehicle rolled over repeatedly after hitting telephone pole in above accident.
While driving, the vehicle begines to tug/slip on the right side, it begins to tug/slip/lurch and progresses into a matallic clunk that can be felt on the floor and in the drivetrain area on the interior of the vehicle, dealer has been unable to duplicate the problem. Possibly suspension related.
I was driving my jeep grand cherokee 3 weeks ago, at about 65 mph, when all of a sudden, it began to shake violently, almost causing me to crash. I slowed down using the brake, and it continue to shake tremendously until i had slowed to apprx. 30 mph. This happened on interstate i-75, with little traffic. Had there been major traffic, i would have had a hard time not wreaking into someone, because it appeared to shake back and forth, rather than up and down. I thought that i had blown a tire. Upon inspection, no apparent tire problems. I was roughly 100 miles from home at the time, so i continued on. The very same thing happened again, however, i was better prepared for it, and although i am not quite sure, it seem to be that my hitting a bump in the road caused it to begin the violent shaking from side-to-side. I proceded at a much slower pace, and did not have a reoccurrance that day. The next day, my mechanic looked it over, and could not find any apparent problem, and said it appeared to be "pretty solid". He said that it would likely take a much more thorough dis-assembly to find the problem. Although he is not a chrysler dealer mechanic, but a certified independant, i trust him in his judgement. I was driving yesterday, may 27, and again it happened. At 65 mph, i hit a bump (not a major bump, but a routine bump on interstate), and it began to shake violently side-to-side. I had to slow down to around 55 mph in order for it not to happen again. What am i to do? i understand that this has happened to another jeep grand cherokee, and that it could be related to a rotor recall?.

All four of these tires are separating at tread and sidewall.a firestone dealer inspected them (yuddy's in portsmouth, nh) and told me they were all splitting.however, they don't want to help me and get in the middle.maybe because i already bought four tires elsewhere. I still have the tires, and need to turn them in somewhere and get re-imbursement.these tires need to be added to your list as well. (dot number: vdhl hlatiresize: p235/75r15)

After my 1995 4wd jeep grand cherokee is driven for several miles, 15 or more on a hot day, the steering of front wheels become almost impossible and the front wheels tries to lock up and refuses to turn. Going straight ahead the vehicle is fine. But when you try to turn either right or left, the right or left wheel will slide and the vehicle refuses to turn. It appears that the front differential is locked. The vehicle makes bad noises and the whole vehicle jerks. After the vehicle sets for a short time, it will steer ok as if nothing is wrong. But, when it is driven for 10 or fifteen minutes again, the problem starts all over.the dealers in this area tell me that it is the front differential, front wheel bearings, c/v joints, or the transfer case. The dealers tell me they have had many jeeps with this problem and have not pin-pointed the problem on any of them. One told me to have the drive shaft removed from the transfer case to the front differential and this will cure the problem in most cases, but i will lose my 4wd. My question is, with a problem like this, why hasn't jeep corrected it. Can anyone help me determine the problem and tell me how to get it repaired.

There was a recall relating to collision gas tank fires.the jeep dealer installed what was supposedly a "trailer hitch", as a solution to the safety recall.when i offered to pay for an additional installation, of a jeep trailer hitch related wiring harness, i was told that the just installed trailer hitch could not be used as a trailer hitch!so, my questions and concerns are "what did the jeep dealer _really_ install and can this installed part be safely used as a regular or factory/dealer installed trailer hitch?also, according to some pennsylvania newspaper articles - there's another jeep recall relating to collision gas tank fires.only, this time the unacceptable "solution" will be to "buy back" the jeeps for some dollar amount above the retail/book value.my daughter bought her jeep as a documented "one owner and below 40,000 miles" deal.she has invested several hundreds of dollars to ensure the jeep was road worthy and capable of being driven over 100,000 miles.what do you advise us/our daughter to do?nhtsa prior inquiry didn't provide a functioning website to learn my tracking number/odi.

It is absolutely rediculous that a gas tank of 5 yrs old is deteriorating.i was asked if i use mobil gas and i don't!this is a poor excuse for a problem that is occurring due to the make of the gas tank! i believe there should be a recall on this problem because it is the manufacturers fault that these parts need to be replaced unusually early on such a young vehicle.

This complaint is not the result of an accident or a problem with the vehicle.this complaint pertains to the replacement tires that i put on my vehicle approximately two years ago.yesterday (10/3/00) my jeep was at my mechanic getting transmission maintenence work.the mechanic noticed that the front tire tread was separating from the side wall of the tire and metal was visible.he informed me that the dayton tires on my vehicle are the same size and type as the firestone recall.in fact the dot numbers indicate that they were even manufactured by firestone at the same plant and have the same nomenclature as depicted on the recalled firestone tires.this is a serious problem.i contacted the tire dealer that sold me the tires (buzz davies, 93 islington street, portsmouth , nh03821; tel 603-433-1328) and he told me that my tires were not included under the recall.he suggested that i come in and that he can pro-rate them. This is not acceptable to me. In my opinion there are too many similarities as well as an obvious tread separation problem with my tires.i am reporting this problem so that you may add this information to your database for the firestone recall.additionally, others with similar tires to mine should be made alert to this problem so that they can elect to remain safe.i plan on replacing these tires this week end, but i will and hold onto them until i can be fully reimbursed. Your help with this problem is and will be appreciated by myself and other unsuspecting consumers who have purchased similarly manufactured firestone "non-branded" tires. Finally, it upsets me to know that these tires were not included in the original safety recall and my life and that of others has been unknowingly in jeopardy since then. Windshield wiper mechanism design defect:in rain and slushy snow my passenger side (ps) window consistently remains clearer than the driver's side (ds).there is a water streak (or ice streak) following the ds wiper at eye level that changing wipers or wiper pressure (bending the arm) won't fix.i've determined this is because the wipers start down to the right and swing up to the left. The ds wiper picks up water and leaves it vertically to the left where it can blow away. The ps wiper leaves a vertical deposit in the ds. The ds wiper than sweeps that down where it cannot be blown off readily.in rain, this puddle gets sucked up behind the ds wiper leaving a trail of water at eye level.now think snowballs:in snow, the ds wiper compacts this deposit into a pile of ice at the ds windshield bottom.this buildup lifts the wiper and also leaves a clump of ice on it that then leaves a streak of un-wiped snow, again at eye level.eventually in snow this buildup will spread and cover the whole ds tempting the driver to drive while looking through the ps, until a safe place can be found to exit and manually scrape the windshield.in a recent blizzard on a lonely rural interstate i was in, all drivers had this problem and stopping in whiteout conditions was very dangerous with many vehicles spun out or jackknifed or stuck in the ditch or colliding.this problem can be greatly improved if not completely eliminated by reversing the swing of the wipers. I can't see why this wouldn't work as the only difference seems to be cleaning the upper left of the ds which isn't needed for proper driving and usually has an oil change sticker anyway.this seems to be a problem with all american cars.do british cars reverse the direction?i file this complaint and form this conclusion from my extensive experience as a forensic engineer.

Violent wobble in left front wheel after hitting a small bump.
While driving on the 210 fwy east near the hill street off-ramp in pasadena-ca the car's front end started to shake & bounce violently while wobbling towards the right.it felt as of the car would fall apart and we (occupants) were very scared.after reducing my speed to about 35mph the shaking/bouncing stopped and everything seemed back to normal.i checked the web to see if any one else had experienced these problems.to my surprise the internet has numerous entries of people in jeeps experiencing exactly the same and naming it the "death wobble".the sites suggest different cures but after replacing all front shocks, steering housing, steering dampers and all suspension bushings and replacing tires and having alignment checked the problem remained as i experienced it twice more after all the work was done.on 04/08/'15 i took the car to alhambra chrysler/dodge/jeep for inspection.the dealer had never heard of the "death wobble" so i handed them an internet printout clearly explaining the symptoms. After inspection the workorder listed the rear shocks needing immediate replacement and front suspension to "may future attention".since everything on front suspension has already been replaced i went ahead and replaced the rear shocks and double checked all suspension fasteners, ball joints and wheelbearings.still the problem, the death wobble",occurred once more.based on the internet listings my case is not an isolated incident and since during the wobble the car is uncontrollable and moves either left or right an accident is sure to happen.please investigate.by the way i am an asa master tech, certified in engines, transmissions (manual & automatic), suspension, brakes, a/c and body and know how to work on cars.this problem baffles me.thank you.
