For over two years my air bag light has been on. I tried to located the a possinle fuse but found the fuse box was mislabled on the diagram. Check you tube and diagram in manual did not match. So i lived with the issue because for inspection it did not affect emmissions. Now thar i am passing the vehical to my daughter i found there was a recall on the airbag and seatbelt along with a steering nut to check. I want the vwhicle to be safe for her. I already put a lot of money into the jeep from a new transmission, wiring concerns located under drivers front tire, timing belt and general maintainance.

Jeep dealership in virginia beach, tried to install recall software, however would not fix problem.the dealership said it was my problem and needed to pay for a new ocr module (400.00) since my jeep will not let the install of the recalled software be installed. I've call chrysler, they've assigned me a case number.i've called back daily and i keep getting the run around.they insist a supervisor will be calling me. Nothing after a week and a half.this is a safety issue and i can't get any help from chrysler/jeep.
Recall has not been resolved
Recall for occupant restraint controller failure was announced by chrysler over 2 years ago and i received a notice in the mail over a year ago that my 2011 jeep compass was included in this recall.this means that my seat belt and front airbags may not deploy in the case of an accident, leaving me and my family subject at an increase for severe injury or fatality.i have inquired about a repair and was told by my local dealer, capital chrysler, jeep, dodge that the fix had not been released yet but they had scheduled it for a fix of this problem (4/4/17) while it was in for another issue.they then told me that the fix had not been released by mopar, not that the parts were not available.it requires replacement of the occupant restraint controller (orc).is this a part that is not available or is it a cost factor for chrysler at my expense?then, i received on 4/15/17 a card in the mail marked "urgent" from mopar (copy attached). It indicated that i had not gotten my car recall repaired and to contact my dealer immediately to get my orc replaced.i contacted capital and was informed that the part had not been released yet and that the card had been mailed to me from mopar.i then called mopar on 4/20/17 and was told there was not a fix yet and that they would contact me when there was. This does not make sense.why did i receive the card in the mail and why is there such a mix up.not that i am planning to be in an accident but this lack of safety restraints really frightens me and could have catastrophic consequences.please investigate this issue.i am attaching a copy of the card, front and back, that i received from mopar.

Registered with dealer regarding recall #16v-668 on or about 12-09-16. I understand that no remedy is available as of yet. Why not, if this is a safety recall? i am using this format to register a complaint regarding the timely full remedy of a safety recall regarding my vehicle. I would like to bemade whole in this matter. I further would appreciate any reply from nhtsa in this issue. Was traveling approx. 25 mph and was unable to stop due to slippery road conditions and hit car in front.air bags did not deploy.
Electronic throttle control light keeps coming on.car looses power and cuts off while i am driving. Car only has 49,415 miles on it. Took to dealer, capital chrysler, jeep, dodge, and they have had it for 2 days.stated cannot trace down the problem so they want to replace throttle body to the tune of $700.00. In researching i have found that many jeep owners have had this problem and even with the throttle body replaced the problem keeps happening and many thousands of dollars have been poured into trying to fix this issue but it keeps happening. It is very dangerous to be in traffic and all of a sudden your car either cuts off or reduces speed to about 25 mph. It is like the gas pedal and the motor or not communicating. This appears to be a dangerous defect in jeeps with the number of complaints that have been made.and if that was not bad enough, there is a recall on the airbags and seat belt mechanism (they won't deploy in an accident) and the release of the fix is being held up until later this year (as late as september according to a technician at the dealership). Both issues need to be addressed because both could cause fatalities and the etc issue is costing consumers thousands of dollars.
I hit the wall and the air bags did not come out.

Have been experiencing electrical issues, headlights not working, interior lights work and then dont, dashboard lights work and then dont. Had engine light come on but when i tightened gas cap it went off. Staring having really hard time upon acceleration, felt like the enging was working really hard and then engine light came on. Took it to my mechanic who said he was sure it was tipm and was trying to see if he could fix it withtout total replacement. Turns out actuators arent firing because tipm is a total wash and needs replacement for 1100 because its out of warranty. Car only has 72,000 miles. I hear cherokee and durango had recalls.
The horn sounds muffled and muted.
Engine will stumble and stall when driving and headlights are illuminated, windows are rolled down or any electrical drain occurs. This is an indication of tipm failure.
Fire started spontaneously under the hood. Unable to control or stop the fire.melted everything under the hood and fire department had to be called. No prior warning that there was any issue electrical or otherwise.
Engine light, traction light and flashing lightning bolt light came on while drivingand vehicle wouldn't exceed 30 mph. Occurrence first happened when turning out of a driveway. I constantly have to shut down/restart vehicle in the middle of traffic, at times, to get back to being able to accelerate normally, otherwise, if able, i will pull over to the side of the road and place the car in park to see if there are any changes. Lights will randomly come on and drastically alter ability to operate vehicle. Other occurrences appeared whilst waiting idle in line at a drive thru, driving down city streets--stop sign to stop sign, driving over road imperfections like bumps or potholes, even safety speed humps. From my own research online, i believe i have an idea to what the cause of this issue is. Due to the flashing lightning bolt signal, it seems that the electronic throttle body has failed.
Tipm went bad and had to replace
Wipers started malfunctioning, seemed to get better, reached destination shut vehicle off. Three hours later would not start, towed to repair facility, then towed to dealership. Dealership determined it was the tipm, they said it was a first for a compass.upon doing some research this seems to be a frequent occurrence with quite a number of chrysler vehicles.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. While parking, the instrument panel lights turned off and the horn malfunctioned without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the steering wheel compass modular was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Horn dose not work, but believe it goes deeper than just horn issue. I have seen a trend with these vehicles thru numerous sources such as internet forums ect.being that the horn can be considered a safety feature.i think the root of the problem is a computer, electrical or a fuse box issue. Took vehicle to jeep dealer yesterday to get fixed, called later that day to pick up vehicle said it was fixed, got home horn did not work.
While in motion, i noted a transmission temp warning light, and a traction control light, while my carwent into a neutral like state, which the manual states is a safety mode.diagnostics indicated a communication error, and it was indicated i needed a new tipm module.i had this replaced at a jeep dealer.after repair, i continued to intermittently get the traction control light, but with no change to vehicle performance.back to shop, diagnosis indicated communication error.while in motion again, check engine, transmission temp and traction control illuminated, and i lost all power.back to shop, continue to have communication error.all other diagnostics are fine.mechanic noted this is common among this make/model.i performed research and noted many similar complaints regarding tipm module.i found that chrysler had recalled same part on durango and grand cherokee, but not other models.this is unacceptable and unsafe.i have spent a great deal of money on an issue the manufacturer is aware of.my vehicle is still not functional.
We (my husband and i) were driving down the freeway to work at 7:00am when it is still dark outside, when all the lights shut off (headlights, dash lights and the hazards would not work). The windshield wipers then shut off and it was raining outside. We had the jeep towed home. I then did some research and found that one of the complaints that compass owners have is the tipm will go out and cause some serious problems with the whole vehicle. I had to have it fixed at the dealership for $651.00 because it is a dealer specific part. I don't understand why this part has not been recalled in the compass when it has been recalled for the grand cherokee, wrangler and durango. This could have caused a horrible accident if my husband wasn't so quick to get the jeep off the road and get us out of the way of traffic.

My 2011 jeep compass that i bought new for $23,000.00 has 56,000 miles and wouldn't start. It is not reliable. Many times i had a loss of power. Had it towed to the dealership and they charged me $900.00 to fix it. They said i needed a new totally integrated power module. They said that my computer wasn't telling the engine to start and that was why all the lights were on in the dash but the car wouldn't start and that was also why i had a total loss of power. I spent the money to fix it at the dealership. Not a week later i had the same problem!! i just spent $900.00 to fix 3 yr old jeep that i bought new foe 23 grand, so i would have something reliable for my 20 yr old daughter to drive while she was away at college and all that money was for nothing as my kid has a pieceof junk that breaks down all the time. I looked online and saw all the problems that people are having with their jeeps. And saw how chrysler still hasn't done a recall. Please look into this. I lost alot of money on a car that is worthless i cannot have my daughter drive an unsafe car. I will have to sell it. Please look into this asap. It's just not right that this large corp won't stand behind their product. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
On 8/20/2014, my windshield wipers stopped working after a couple miles driving in a downpour.i feared for my safety and the safety of other vehicles on the highway from the point the windshield wipers "froze" vertically in my field of vision until i could pull over to safety.from that day on, my windshield wipers were inconsistent and they would work about every other time i started my 2011 jeep compass.sometimes they would work when i started my car, but quit sometime during my commute.i took my car into the dealership on 9/5/2014 and was told my tipm was defective causing the windshield wipers to work intermittently and it needed replaced.i ordered the part and scheduled an appointment to have the tipm replaced on 9/9/2014.after getting home from the dealership, i google searched tipm and was disgusted by the numerous complaints of chrysler, dodge, and jeep vehicles with this issue.chrysler knows about this issue and they need to be held accountable for the faulty and defective part.this needs investigated and a recall initiated.the total repair cost me $979.45.i should not have to pay for a known issue affecting thousands of other chrysler, dodge and jeep vehicles.
The compass down shifted on it's on and would not go. Doors locked and unlock alone. When car down shifted or slowed down by itself was nearly rear-ended on interstate 10.thinking it was transmission oil, had it changed and filter change. Nope problem continues.almost rear-ended again. This vehicle is not safe when it has a mind of its own. They recalled tipm module other makes of jeep but not on the compass, when reading car complaints from compass owner's they have the same problem the other jeep models experienced. Please help get this vehicles tipm module recalled for the safety of the driver's and those driving around them. If we do get rear-ended before this is remedied, i guarantee there will be a lawsuit against chrysler jeep!

Vehicle dash red lightning and stability control lights turned on with warning chime upon braking at the traffic light on the freeway off ramp while exiting interstate 10. This was accompanied with rough engine idle and lack of power for accelerating. Turning the engine off for a minute and restarting seems to clear these warning lights and vehicle operates normally. Vehicle was towed to nearest chrysler service center with diagnostics completed and the mass flow sensor replaced. Issue occurred again the following week. I drove the vehicle to the same chrysler service center without shutting off the engine so that the service technician could read the error codes and observe/document the warning lights lit in the dash. A third visit to the same service center resulted in the replacement of the powertrain control module which was covered under extended warranty. Issue occurred again within two weeks after the most recent service visit. I had mentioned to the service advisor that i had one incident prior to the initial event for this issue of braking hard which most likely engaged the abs-anti-lock braking system. The service advisor did not seem to believe there might be a connection between this incident and this issue. This issue occurs several times each week and only upon stopping after exiting the freeway. Vehicle operates normally during street driving with no problems. When this issue does occur, pulling into a nearby gas station and shutting off the engine seems to reset everything with the vehicle operating normally after restarting the engine. I have been dealing with this unresolved issue with chrysler for approximately 4 months.
My car is going into limp mode while driving, going down really quickly basically.while driving on interstate car decided to go into low speed twice no almost causing a rear-ended collision thankfully driver behind was paying attention and i only received road rage from driver. It shook my wife up so much she was home for two days with xtra anxiety medication. Since that incident car comes and goes in limp mode, so now the car sits my wife is terrified to drive it. I know recall on other jeep models, i feel this too should be recalled.
The vehicle went in to limp mode causing no acceleration, no power. The car is now sticking in low gear. This is on going and costly. And above all dangerous when the vehicle decides not to work on the interstate. Chrysler knows about this and continues to ignore issue and throws cost back on consumer. Also, does not give any codes to find out what's going on with jeep.
Abs, traction control, and 4x4! came on when i started the car.drove out of work's driveway stop at sign then accelarate down a steep winding hill and my car was accelerating by iteself..rpms went from 3 to 4 and i was not pressing the gas peddle..i pulled over because the car didnt want to stop..abs felt like it came on and felt like no brakes..luckily it did stop with pumping and didnt flip over into the huge drain ditch.we havent even had this car a year and we already had to spend over 1 grand in the first 3 months for the relay..in which there is not even a part to replace it..guess i either quite working and live on the streets or take my chances every day driving the death traps that we are paying thousands for..and it seems these have all been known issues ..
Dry, hot surface on highway. In construction moving through stop and go as two major routes were merging. Approached area going under a overpass, slight downward and sweeping left curve. Speed was approximately 20 mph off and on due to heavy traffic flow. Gently depressed brake to slow then went to gently accelerate and car just quit, had no acceleration. Looked at instrument panel and esc light is on. Be put hazards on, put car in neutral and restarted. Everything went back to normal. Truly terrifying as there would be no way for a tow to even get to me or for me to get out of the car! i was against left side wall, on a curve, under a bridge in a heavy traffic construction zone in cleveland! dealership will charge me $115 just to look at it. Reading up i find there will not even be a code so why bother. This issue is dangerous!
The etc light comes on and the vehicle won't go when stepping on the gas. The engine cuts off in the middle of driving. Some days it starts some days it doesn't.replaced the relay switches twice and the etc.neither seems to help. I drive a highway to work everyday and i pray that if it acts up, i can find a place to pull over

The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the vehicle went into limp mode and would not exceed 25 mph. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with the brake switch, camshaft sensor, catalytic converter, and the crankshaft sensor needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer a month later where it was diagnosed with the throttle body and the brake switch needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,317.
It starts with the steering wheel is loose and at first we had no idea what was going on. This issue i have with my jeep compass 4x2 year 2011, is the same exact recall on the jeep wrangler stated below: i called chrysler group llc, 800-247-9753 today sept. 14 2014. I spoke with the recall dept. They said the compass, at this time does not have this recall. Only the wrangler below, which has the same exact issue as i do. So, i have to tow truck my jeep tomorrow morning, to my local jeep dealership, service dept and pay out of pocket. Chrysler recall dept said keep my receipts if more ppl complain then there may be a recall just like the wrangler has below. This is exactly what happened to me>>>>> but this is wrangler, not my jeep compass. Per the wrangler recall solution: (wranglers with 3.6-liter v-6 engines, chrysler says a power steering fluid line can wear a hole in the transmission oil cooler line. The suvs can leak fluid, damaging automatic transmissions. Dealers will inspect the lines for free and replace them or install a protective sleeve. The recall begins in july 2013.)it's also recalling 221,000 jeep wranglers worldwide from 2012 and 2013 to fix transmission fluid leaks, according to documents posted thursday on the national highway traffic safety administration website.i am frustrated because my 3 year warranty just ended last month aug. 2014. I researched on the internet and read a lot of other people encountering the same issue.
While stuck in traffic for 6 minutes (windows down), the car temperature gauge went to "h". Once i started moving, the guage went to half.when i got home i checked the fluid levels and they were fine.on the way to work the next day while stopped at a traffic light, the car temp guage went to "h" again.i brought it in to my mechanic who said that the fan motor was not spinning, causing the engine to overheat.upon further inspection he noted that the computer module that operates the fan was "fried" and the transmission dipstick somehow got lodged in the fan motor.i replaced the dipstick and computer module ($1100) and the same thing is happening again.overheating for no reason.when i called chrysler/jeep about my extended warranty, they said that only the engine was covered, not the computer module that could seize my engine.according to a local dealership, 70 computer modules were replaced in a week!when does this become a safety hazard?if i was driving on the parkway and my engine seized, i would of been dead!
Engine will stumble and stall when driving and headlights are illuminated, windows are rolled down or any electrical drain occurs. This is an indication of tipm failure.
I was driving down the road on route 73 in cinnaminson nj at 930 pm with my 15 year old daughter. All of a sudden, without warning - the engine shut off and my car had zero power. The power steering was locked up and we almost got rear ended by a huge truck. It was terrifying. I called road side assistance and had to wait in a dark car with no heat. This is horrible
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted, but the failure recurred. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was notified. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Just purchased this car.it has 73,000 miles.driving in 100 degree temps going 75-80 and transmission green light comes on.sounds like it can't change gears.i experienced a total loss of acceleration.
Transmission oil lights always come on when car drives over 70 mph at least 2 hrs in hot weather. Then car slow down and i have to pull over to let it cool off. It will do it 3-4 times during a long trip. It does every summer and the jeep dealer never found the problem.

The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated the check engine light illuminated intermittently over several months. The vehicle was taken to (diehl chrysler dodge jeep ram fuso of moon 5408 university blvd, moon, pa 15108) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the oxygen (o2) sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and diagnosed. The contact was then informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced which was still pending. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Trouble with transmission shifting and lights stop working at times.
First time this happened, i refueled my vehicle all the way to full. I drove off and got on the highway on-ramp, while i was accelerating, the car shut off, locked up the steering and the engine shut off while the car was still in drive, and the key was still in the ignition. I quickly stopped the car, put it in park and restarted the car, got on the highway and the incident didn't occur again. A few weeks later, the same thing happened. I refueled until the tank was full, drove about 100 yards, and the car shut off while still in drive with keys in ignition and the steering locked up while i was going around a sharp turn. I could have died if another car came around the turn at that time. I restarted the car and the same thing happened again within 50 feet. After that, restarting it a second time i was able to drive the car without it happening again. Scared to refill the car again. During each incident, no warning lights or indication came up on the dashboard, there was no way to tell what was happening.
The contact's son owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated while his son was exiting the parking lot and driving approximately 15-25 mph, the vehicle inadvertently stalled and the steering wheel locked-up. The contact did not know whether there were warning lights illuminated. The contact's son was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated his son was able to restart the vehicle and drove to his destination. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The contact's son was able to restart the vehicle and drove to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the roll over bent valve in the fuel tank was not closing properly leaking fuel into the evap system causing the vehicle to stall and lock the steering wheel. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa for assistance. A case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while making a turn the vehicle stalled. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 11,170.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. While making a left turn out of a parking lot at 10 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. After fifteen minutes, the contact restarted the vehicle. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Filled the 2011 jeep compass with gas and pulled out of gas station. Two seconds later my car completely shut off and the steering wheel locked up.i managed to get it partially to the side of the road by letting it roll and brake, but cars behind me were not prepared for this and 3 cars swerved out of the way at the last minutes before slamming into me.
Fire started spontaneously under the hood. Unable to control or stop the fire.melted everything under the hood and fire department had to be called. No prior warning that there was any issue electrical or otherwise.

Did not know that was a recall on thecatalytic converter they fix it they had the part in im woudering about the antilock brakes because my brake light comes on and the ads lightbecause courtesy dodgejeep ram in conyers ga is charging me about 800.00 hundred dollars plus 190.00 for a battery i can't afford that. My car was on a city street when the brake light and abs light came on i thought the brake fluild was low courtesy dodge said that it was ready before i could drive the jeep off the lot the brake light came back on. Then they said it was the battery, now they telling me antilock brakes. I cannot afford to pay 1,190.00 dollars.
I left work from downtown pittsburgh at 4:15 pm, and while crossing outbound on the vetrans bridge, my jeep turned itself off.the steering became extremely tough, and i was barely able to get to the side of the road.i turned off the jeep, turned it back on, and thankfully it started again.if traffic was moving faster, like it usually does, i would have caused a wreck.
My 2011 jeep compass failed inspection since it needs a catalytic converter replacement.when i checked to see if there was a recall, i found that there was one started in march of 2019, however, my vin # does not qualify.since i have the same problem as the recall, i feel that my vehicle should be added and that chrysler should have to pay for the repairs.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while traveling 75 mph, the engine suddenly stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue. The failure and current mileages were unavailable. The vin was not available.
Several times after filling up my 2011 jeep compass with gas, i turn the car on and drive off. In minutes the steering locks up and car stalls. Car is getting power, all components are still working (lights, radio, etc.). I turn car off and restart and it sputters and finally starts and is drivable. I have read several other complaints of the same issue and it is dangerous due to the steering locking up and the inability to control the car when it stalls.
Filled tank and car stalled while driving away three times (after driving a short distance) called for a tow and taken to mechanic where they couldn't identify the problem. Then again, approximately three months later, stalled after filling the gas tank while making a left out of the gas station across traffic. Quickly restarted the car, it bucked as though about to stall after another 3/4 mile, and then ran fine. Largest concern is directly after fill up, but there is frequently a buck/hesitation when accelerating as well.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. While driving at an unknown speed, the engine cooling system warning indicator illuminated. The contact shifted into neutral and the heating system had to be turned on in order for the warning indicator to turn off. The failure recurred every 200 miles. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
Pls use this complaint jeep compass 4x2 year 2011, today, sunday, sept. 14, 2014, i heard a noise bottom of my jeep and found a long metal piece manufacture sticker cvt transmission use only chrysler. It was a metal pipe transmission oil filler tube, hanging on the bottom of my car, dragging on the ground, while i was driving. I took pictures it has a hole in the metal tube. It started with the steering wheel becoming very loose and requiring to turn more than usual to the right or left, which may be caused from a different recall (components: steering: column, nhtsa campaign : 11v-315), i was never informed about this steering wheel recall. When i safely returned home, on internet noticed different chrysler forums, ppl same issue jeep compass. I notice a recall wranglers with 3.6-liter v-6 engines), having the same exact issue as i experienced with my jeep compass. So, i called chrysler group llc recall dept. 800-247-9753 today sept. 14 2014. No recall for compass. Recall for wranglers with 3.6-liter v-6 engines. Frustrated my 3 year warranty ended last month aug. 2014. Tomorrow, morning, tow truck jeep, to local jeep dealership and pay out of pocket. Chrysler recall dept. Said keep receipts if more people complain then there may be a recall just like the wrangler. The recall issue is exactly what happened to me.(per the wrangler recall solution: (wranglers with 3.6-liter v-6 engines, chrysler says a power steering fluid line can wear a hole in the transmission oil cooler line. The suvs can leak fluid, damaging automatic transmissions. Dealers will inspect the lines for free and replace them or install a protective sleeve. The recall begins in july 2013.) recalling 221,000 jeep wranglers worldwide from 2012 and 2013 to fix transmission fluid leaks, according to nhtsa.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to resume and function normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the crank shaft positioning senor needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage 52,800. The vin was not available.
I have a 2011 jeep compass, brought it in may, less than (1) month it has cut off on me. The first time i make a right turn and truck cut off, second time im at red light it cut off, third time i stop at red light ,change to green got read to take off truck had cut off.it been in shop ,dealer couldn't find anytime wrong ,second time they said it is code in key. Now it cut off again. Im scare for my safety there no warning ,you never know when it going to cut off. Please help there is something wrong with this jeep.
Outside temperature 102, driving posted speed limit of 75 mph. After 1 1/2 hours warning light came on saying transmission fluid overheated, the speed automatically dropped to 55 mph. I pulled to the side of the interstate and engine stalled. After 30 minutes engine started. Took to jeep dealership and they said common problem and they could repair it for $1,000. I said the vehicle is under warranty. They said not covered under warranty. They advised i drive in the middle of the night and make frequent stops to avoid the problem. This has happened 5 times. I have found multiple complaints of the same nature online. I do not understand why this has not been a recall. It is a severe safety problem. I am not young, female and a widow, i do not feel safe driving this car in the middle of the night. I care for my elderly parents and drive 500 miles in arizona every other week to be at their home. My safety is at risk. Please consider opening an investigation relating to this problem.
We purchased our 2011 jeep compass in december of 2011.approximately 3 months later my wife experienced an engine stall in the middle of making a left-hand turn going approx. 20 mph.there was no warning light or indication that the engine was no longer running.the power steering locked up and became very difficult to maintain control of the vehicle since happened in the middle of a turn into on-coming traffic. Within a month later it happened to me and again while making a slow left-handed turn.my wife notified the dealership where we purchased the jeep and they said to bring it in next time it happened.it happened a 3rd time with my wife in june 2012 -again while making a left-handed turn.we then took the vehicle to the dealership for scheduled maintenance and to investigate the problem.they kept it for a week and said the computer diagnostics reported no issues.they said until it happened with them they couldn't isolate the problem. Today, july 18th, 2012 it has happened again with my wife for the 4th time making a left-handed turn again.this is an extreme safety hazard and upon researching other customer complaints, it is quite common.in fact,i am finding that 25-50% of the customer complaints about the 2011 jeep compass are related to this engine stall out while driving.we have returned the vehicle to the dealership as we were instructed and i left them copies of the research i did and customer complaints so they have no reason to say it is isolated to just my vehicle because there is a definite trend that warrants a safety recall in my opinion. At this time it is in the hands of chrysler to bring this to a resolution.the vehicle only has about 8000 miles and lots of warranty left so i am hoping to see chrysler stand behind their reputation and do the right thing.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the steering column seized and the vehicle unexpectedly stalled. The engine restarted and resumed normally. The failure occurred on three different occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where they were unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
The exhaust hanger allowed the exhaust to shift up into the bumper causing the rear bumper to melt/burn. My family's lives were put in danger and my bumper was ruined because of this engineering defect.[xxx], ceo of town & country dealerships in oregon sent an email to warn his customers of this problem stating the following:"dear patriot and compass owners,.... Something of concern that we feel we should share with you.the issue has to deal with the exhaust pipe on (non limited) models.in particular those models that do not have chrome tip extension on the end of the exhaust pipe. We have noticed on certain vehicles, that if by chance you should run over an object, or if something hits the pipe or muffler, it can cause the pipe to shift upward. It potentially may lock and position itself approximately 2 inches higher than it normally should.this may cause the exhaust to hit the back of the plastic bumper cover and cause it to get extremely hot. It may cause the bumper to potentially melt and burn.there have only been a handful of cases nationwide; i believe less than 3 from what i have been told ...please note that the manufacturer has not come up with an official fix... [xxx]at this time chrysler refuses to issue a recall or warn consumers, clearly placing those jeep owners lives in danger.chrysler will not take action to fix the fire hazard vehicles they are selling unless the government makes them.videos are available on youtube by searching "jeep compass bumper melting" and "jeep patriot bumper melting."information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while idle, the check engine warning light illuminated, there was a chime that sounded and the vehicle stalled. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to determine the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000. Updated 04/06/15*ljaccording to the invoice, the crank shaft position sensor needed to be replaced . Updated 07/02/15
With my foot on the brake, completely stopped at a light or stop sign, while in drive only, the car vibrates and the engine makes a loud rumbling noise. This can be felt in the steering wheel, brake pedal and throughout the entire car. When i take my foot off the brake or put it in neutral, reverse or park the noise from the engine and vibration will stop. The vibration is so bad it is uncomfortable to keep your foot on the brake, or hands on the steering wheel, making it dangerous, as i am having to put the car in neutral at every stop. Have had it at an authorized jeep dealer 2 times now and they have found nothing wrong. Contacted jeep, as the car only had 3600 miles on it when i first took it in, they assigned me a case number, and will be in the shop until it is fixed. Thank you jeep for trying to find a cure for this problem, as i love my compass, and really want it fixed.
The problem vehicle is a 2011 fwd jeep compass. On 5/31/11 within the first 10 (ten) miles of ownership the vehicle stalled out on me while stropped at a traffic light. I put the vehicle in park and was able to restart it without any difficulty. On 6/19/11 (while in motion), without any advance indication of a problem the vehicle totally lost power. I put it in neutral and was able to roll it out of traffic and into a turn lane. The vehicle struggled to restart but did after a couple of tries, a "check engine" light came on and remained on for approximately 30 miles. After weeks, i am still waiting for an "inspector" to examine the vehicle.
I own a 2011 jeep compass for 2 weeks when i stopped at a stop sign, stopped and took off. Once i took off the jeep engine just stopped. I couldn't tell it until i tried to turn and had no control! the dealership said the engine needed an update code, that they don't have yet for the 2.4l engine. So now i have a car with less than 2600 miles on it in the shop that we can't drive. Why would they sell a car that shuts off for no reason and they know about it?i have 2 small children thank god they were not in the car with me. Now we are in a rental. Thanks jeep.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to global auto mall (located at 1099 rt. 22 west, north plainfield, nj 0706, (866) 233-6719) where it was diagnosed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 117,000.
My wife and i noticed alot of hard banging in the rear and front of vehicle , at the speed of idling out of our parking. Crossing any rail service no matter how new and we'll built the loud bangs in the front and rear are there at even the slowest of speeds. I have crawled around under our jeep best i can , the front member and rear are beyond rotted, i can only get pictures of the rear damage but the front is horrible also..
When changing burned daytime running bulb i noticed that the socket was very hot and burned brown. At the same time i noticed that the frame reflector had lost its reflecting surface. I controlled the other side and the same had happened to the other side frame and socket and was burning hot. I was upset if there was a danger of fire.please note that i cannot but my address there below, because the system does not accept european addresses and cannot delete the "alabama". However i want to report this incident because the car is us made.
The crossmember- engine cradlethat hold the engine in place. I heard a noise and took it to my mechanic he took pictures of the crossmember showing that it is rusted through showing holes. Took it in to a jeep dealer to have it diganosed, they confirmed that it is unsafe to drive as the engine can actually fall out. I contacted chrysler and they said that there was an extension of the warranty on this part that expired a month ago. They sent me to mopar parts to see if they would pay for the repair. After days they rejected the claim. Now this car is 10 years old however it only has 48000 miles which is less than 5000 miles ayear. I bought thecar bran new. So it all rusted through on a car with only the 48000 miles. At best this should have been a recall. But at least customers owning this car should have been notified about this warranty extension so they could have had it checked and reparied beforesome one is killed driving a car that the engine could fall out on the road. Now mopar is refusing to cover the cost of fixing it because thewarranty extension expired a month and a half ago . Even though they know there is a problem with it. I feel that i need some help in making mopar or chrysler pay to have this work completed. I also have had to replace the 4 wheel drive as that went bad along with replacing the rear axles as they also rusted.
Vehicle was not accelerating properly. Bucking and jerking for the first approx. 500' of acceleration. Very unsafe when pulling out into traffic. Acted as if it were out of gas, then would finally kick in. The problem was reported 1/22/13, and a computer update was performed by the dealership. The problem occurred again. The vehicle was brought to the dealership 1/31/13 and the dealership couldn't find a problem. Returned the vehicle to owner. The vehicle continuously had this problem, however, it was random and could not be re-created by the dealer. The vehicle was brought back to the dealership 4/5/13. A test drive was performed with the owner for 106 miles, but the problem could not be recreated. The vehicle kept randomly failing to accelerate. Finally, on 4/11/13, the vehicle was not accelerating properly and the dealership was able to witness the problem. Dealership replaced fuel pump. So far the issue has not re-occurred, however, this report is being filed in order to notify the safety board of potential safety issue and danger to public. This driver was nearly killed because of the vehicles failure to accelerate in high speed traffic. The dealership's refusal to find a problem when "no computer codes" would come up didn't help.this report was written by the owner.

After every single time i fuel up my car, the whole car sputters. I have taken my car in and had my oil changed and received a tune up. Last week, after having all of this work done, i go to fill up my tank, i turn the car on it sputters as i accelerate out of the gas station, then i pulled out onto a very busy street to drive home and not even a quarter mile down the road my car stalls out, power steering is lost, and i almost get hit from on coming traffic dur to me losing control of the vehicle. I put the car in park and turn the car back on and it seems fine. Again this issue only happens immediately after getting gas. This issue is apparently well known but there is no recall out yet. Here is a link to other people having the exact same problem as me: "bucking after i fill up with gas. - cargurus"https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t29898_ds631498

The etc light comes on and the vehicle won't go when stepping on the gas. The engine cuts off in the middle of driving. Some days it starts some days it doesn't.replaced the relay switches twice and the etc.neither seems to help. I drive a highway to work everyday and i pray that if it acts up, i can find a place to pull over
Stalled after filling up with gas. The mechanic was not sure what the problem was but after fixing what they thought it may be. $500 dollars latter. It is still stalled after i filled up. Very scary crossing 4 lane's of traffic after your car stalled, starts right back, then stalled again. Now they are tell it may be in the gas tank. I don't have money for all the guessing. Something needs to be done!
Jeep stalled after filling it with gas. Steering wheel locks up, due to overflow of gas. Fix would require replacing whole gas tank and system.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure on their initial visit, but the second time the fuel injection system was replaced. The remedy failed to correct the problem and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 30,000.
In june of 2012 i was pulling out of a parking lot and as i merged on to the main road i heard a scraping noise, i pulled over and looked underneath and saw a metal tube hanging from the bottom of the engine, i took it out and noticed it was the transmission filler tube, it had snapped off. I took it to the dealer and they replaced it. The other day[april 2015] i was changing my air filter and noticed that the filler tube was gone again went to the dealer and they told me that it wasn't covered under manufacturer warranty.it is a flaw in the design of the vehicle i understand a sensor going bad but something that is not supposed to break off should be covered.
I was driving my car and started to press on the gas and the rpm went up really high and my car wasn't moving. I was getting onto a main highway. I had lots of cars beeping at me. It was scary because i thought i was going to be stuck there forever.

At 45000, the throwout bearing went on my jeep compass. This willalso cause a need for a new clutch plate.i have been reading online, and this is a very common problem, for a lot of jeeps with manual transmissions.
When driving vehicle would lose power and could not accelerate. While on rt 90, massachusetts turnpike i had to get across traffic to crawl off highway to garage.they looked at it and said weren't sure, perhaps transmission.after a while when i restarted was able to crawl home on local roads.it seemed better until another time on rt 91 i was in dangerous situation when auto started slowing down and would not accelerate and i was almost his by tractor trailer truck. Luckily i crawled back home again.it was very dangerous situation.few days later i was going to take to garage and in middle road it stopped and would no longer drive at all.it sat in middle street until i had it towed to repair.they could help at my usual repair garage and i had to have towed again to jeep dealership where they informed me transmission was blown and it would cost almost $6500 to replace transmission, throttle body and maniverter.my sister had a 2015 jeep that had same problem year after she bought and she was also in dangerous situations on highway same as mine.hers was recalled.my car is only 8 years old and this kind of repair is outrageous.i have had it towed 3 times and cannot move it at all. It seems to have messed up cruise control which few months previously stopped working before transmission quit all together. Research has showed me this is a chronic and dangerous problem with jeep vehicles as mechanics have also informed me.this had been ongoing problem for some months until it stopped driving at all.jeep needs to recall these dangerous vehicles.i have statement from lia jeep of northampton, ma stating necessary repairs but my printer is not working soi cannot upload.
Traveling on the highway at a constant speed 65-70 mph the power train was making a whining noise.after 30 to 60 minutes of highway travel in 80 degree weather the transmission warning / overheat light came on and the vehicle began to slow down.i pulled over to the side of the road and put the transmission into neutral and let the engine idle for about 15 - 20 minutes.the transmission warning light went out.after 5 minutes i continued on my trip at 60 mph and the light did not return.the vehicle did exhibit a slight rough feeling in the power train and was not the normal smooth engine & shifting.
I was driving the car in the freeway about 70mph . Out of no where car can not be acceleratedand lost all power. I was lucky that traffic was not bad otherwise i would have got other and myself hurt. Call jeepcustomer service and they advised me to pull over and put the car in neutral for 15-20 minutes to let the transmission "cool off" and to try it again. To my surprised it work. However about an hour later same thing happen. I take the car to my mechanic and he advise me to get rid of the car, he told me that jeep knows well that this cars are transmission are overheating and losing all power but they refuse to make a recall and fix the issue. I can not express to you guys how scary is to be driving and known that at any minutes your car can lose all power and you will be hit or kill. I urge you guys to take this into consideration and help me and others that are driving this cars to have jeep fix them. I call jeep customer service and asked them why they have not done anything to resolve this issue, i was told that all she can do was "document" my concerns but that was all she can do. I am very upset knowing that even if i spend the money to put a new transmission this issue will not go away since all this transmissionsare defective. Please make jeep be responsible for this matter and have them recall all the cars that are affected by this issue. Otherwise the public is at risk to have mayor accidents and deaths. Thank you.
Loss of power and steering locked. Accelerated and engine would rev up, but car would not move. Had to stop, turn car off, and restart. Then it moved. Very very scary to have happen while driving!in town driving going about 25 mph.
While driving the vehicle is magically stopped accelerating going 55 mph on a two lane highway in the country.there are/were no issues with the engine as the car would not move forward or reverse as i pressed on the gas pedal.credible/nationally recognized vehicle repair shop stated the transmission needs replacement (123,500 miles).
Vehicle is prone to cvt transmission overheating at high rate of speed in warm weather.this has happened 4 separate times now on the interstate highway system, the latest on interstate 95 south 50 miles north of the florida line in georgia. Car will stop any acceleration, transmission overheat light comes on and you cannot maintain speed with flow of traffic.create a hazardous situation trying to exit the interstate highway, occurred at 70 mph.jeep dealership cannot detect any problem when diagnosing from prior similar event. In addition wheel bearings in rear axles wear out on average every 35,000 miles i have replaced twice now plus ball joint in front needed replacement at between 36,000 and 40,000 miles
Trouble with transmission shifting and lights stop working at times.
While traveling 45 miles an hour vehicle stopped driving. Engine was running car was in drive but the car would not accelerate. Several warning lights were on. The transmission control module was not working.
2011 manual transmission with 115k miles. Hit a pothole and began making noise in engine. Took to repair shop. They found metal fragments in transmission fluid reservoir. Still shifts ok.
In my 2011 jeep compass that i purchased from dave syverson' s in albert lea minnesota in 2015 has had numerous issues with the transmission starting in less than a year from the purchase date.the first time was when i was coming home, up my gradual hill, when my car stopped being able to drive more than 10 mph and all of my gears were out up (p, n, d, r). It was "fixed" because my wiring to my transmission was completely corroded.not once did the leaping of my car stop, the feeling of the car pushing through gears on it's in while in motion. In the winter months i took my car in to have the leaping looked at, the shop said there was nothing to fix.however this june i was driving north on highway 35 when an oil temperature gauge came on. I stopped, had it towed, the shop i had to go to checked transmission fluid and filter (after i called five times to tell them to check these things) they said it needed replaced. I drove my car to the jeep dealer and it was replaced after two weeks of not having a car.my car was given a pretty clean bill of health.however last night (june 30th, 2017) i was driving home 8 miles and when accelerating from a red light it was like i was stuck in neutral and my rpms revved high but i was going no where.i pulled over and left my car in a safe spot.my transmission has clearly stopped working for whatever reason.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. In addition, while driving up a hill at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission fluid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was serviced, but the remedy failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Power train issue -the vehicle would be at a stop and in first gear, when taking off and moving and shifting into second, once in second or sometimes even in first when vehicle moving the vehicle would come out of gear causing the whole car to jerk and feel as thought you had just been rear-ended. The other issue is sometimes the shifter would be in neutral and it would get stuck. This is when the vehicle was stationary in park or at a complete stop.you couldn't move it at all into reverse first or anything. Multiple times i would have to leave the vehicle and come back and try to put it in to gear and push clutch in etc... Until it would come unstuck. This vehicledealership 20+ times for the drive train alone& the stick shift has been replaced-transmission worked on& they can't explain the shifter getting stuck in the neutral area. It is not really in neutral either.my car was starred with something the last time i brought it in by the mechanic because of all the issues.i want to say all the issues started about a year after i bought the car, first with the vehicle locking me out of the car.the security system seized and i couldn't start my car or anything and it had to be towed at about 9,000 miles. This car was bought brand new. The warranty is up on the drive train and all the dealership does is tell me everything reads find and we found no issues. They didn't even fix the stick shift going out of gear until i brought in multiple times and they finally had the service manager driving it because i brought it in so many times. It finally did it to the service manager and he immediately brought it back and had them fix it. I am not exactly certain of the time it first started - i can only give an estimate. I know it started about 6 months after i bought the car. I have had multiple issues with this car. I have another safety complaint in.
I bought the car in 2011. The transmission got broken before the car had 1000 miles and it was covered by warranty with a new transmission. A year later i was driving and the transmission light turned on and the car stopped responding. After waiting for about one hour, the light went off and i could drive to a dealer. They did not find "anything wrong" with the transmission and they did not make any reparation. A month ago the same happened after driving for two hours. I left the car at a different dealer, and after having my car for three days they told me the same: "nothing is wrong with the car" and no reparations were done. Last sunday i was driving to a different state, and again after 2 hours driving, the car stopped responding and the transmission light turned on. After waiting for 2 hours in the roadside i could finally reach my destination. There is definitely something wrong with the transmission of the car, and it seems that chrysler does not want to take responsibility for it. Maybe they are waiting for me to hit 100,000 miles to tell me that the transmission is useless and i have to pay for a new one??? how come the same problem happened 3 times and 3 dealers did not identify the problem? the fact is that the car is not reliable, and i cannot plan any trip longer that 1 hour drive...
When i drove it would seem to lose power and not accelerate like when on highway changing lanes.i was almost in a big accident, had to limp off mass pike highway to garage and after cooled down was able to limp back home instead of continuing to my destination, staying off highway.it often smelled hot. Since then it got worse just driving around town and made a squealing sound and now won't drive at all even though motor is running.last week it stopped in middle of street when driving and had to have it towed. This is very dangerous and i cant afford a $1500 plus repair for something that is a design flaw.my sisters 2015 jeep was recalled for same issues.
I was driving the car and it tacked high 3-4 for a few seconds and did not drive although foot was to the floor on gas pedal it would just not move, knew it was transmission problem but engineering at chrysler has tried every fix they can think of to avoid replacing transmission with no success. Waiting supposedly for new transmission and has been in the service center at the dealer for 20+ days. I had the car for 52 days prior to failure and it only had 2025 miles on it.
Vehicle stops moving randomly at highway speeds and must be restarted to get it to move. Will barely accelerate and rpms are extremely high st low speeds.vehicle surges and won't accelerate. Horrible whining noises. Vehicle stalls,or won't move when trying to ascend up hill or when entering the highway. I have almost been hit multiple times due to these problems. I have taken this vehicle to ther mechanic twice and had the computer run diagnostics.the cause of these problems is the automatic transmission. There are numerous accounts of this problem regarding this make and model of vehicle. This has been happening for approximately 4 months.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while stationary, the vehicle erroneously shifted from park and rolled away. The contact was able to press the brake and shift into park. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage and vin was unavailable.
Climbing out of a parking garage incline, we found ourselves going backwards rather rapidly.fortunately, there were no cars behind us.since then there have been many incidents although we are aware of this strange phenomenon for an automatic shift automobile and apply the brake with the left foot while accelerating with the right.not something we should have to do.
The transmission overheat light comes on often and causes the car to lose power and or stall. This happens on any type of driving scenario highway, residential or stationary.i will take my foot off the gas and the light will go off. The windshield wipers will come on my themselves and i will have to physically turn them on and off for them to stop. More recently my oil change indicator came on when i have at least 1000 more miles before my car is due for an oil change
Today, 4/20/2016, i heard what sounded like metal dragging the ground in my 2011 jeep compass.after parking, i inspected under the car to find a metal pipe hanging down to the ground near the front left tire.i easily pulled the pipe out, and discovered it is the cvt transmission fill tube.it appears the tube rotted off from wherever it belongs.i have found multiple reports of the same thing happening to other jeep models as well, particularly the patriot. While i have yet to determine any detrimental performance effects (it just happened today, and i have yet to drive it again), the tube could have easily dislodged while driving and struck a car behind me, endangering the lives of others.my jeep only has around 40,000 miles, and has been kept up to date on all maintenance requirements.if i hadn't found other jeep owners with the same problem, i would have concluded it was caused by a mechanic during a recent oil change.however, because i have found dozens of other complaints (and also assuming there are others who never even noticed that the tube had rotted off), i feel that the nhtsa should be aware of the issue, and take appropriate action.thank you.
On the reported date my 2011 jeep compass 2.4l 4x4 was remote started and ran for approximately 15-20 minutes before getting in and driving off. The engine had warmed up about half way to operating temperature. The temperature was 13 degrees fahrenheit outside. Once i left and pulled out onto the street the transmission threw out 3 small and quick jerks. This happened 3 more times before getting onto the interstate. This is a brand new cvt less than a year old. The last cvt did the same shudder in the cold before it blew out a month later with 115,000 miles on it (barely out of warranty). The jeep cvt seems to be under built for cold temperatures because the new transmission only has about 15,000 miles on it and is doing the exact same thing. Note: i was babying the throttle to get up to operating temps when this occurred.

The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that the steering wheel would pull hard toward the right when driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The technicians stated that the failure was caused by a combination of the nature of thefront wheel drive vehicle and driver inexperience. The technicians adjusted the camber yet the failure continued after the adjustment. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65.updated 07/20/11the consumer also stated the transmission failed to change gears.there was a whining sound and it felt as though, it was straining to change gears.the failure resulted in a loss of power necessary to merge safely from one lane of traffic to another. The consumer stated the vehicle lost all power. The vehicle struggled to re-start, but eventually it did. The check engine light illuminatedafterwards. Updated 11/21/11
(among other problems), this 2011 jeep compass has transmission difficulties. On multiple occasions the automatic transmission has failed to shift from gear to gear without manual assistance. It will whine and strain and just not change, even as the rpm climb sky high, it will not shift without assistance. This failure was first documented on 6/19/11 but there were multiple failure before this date. The system failure has resulted in a reduction of power to such extent that it is difficult to safely merge into a lane of traffic. During such episodes the accelerator could be pressed to the floor and the maximum speed would not exceed 20 or 25 miles per hour. This vehicle (which has other problems) is considered to be unsafe. I am presently waiting for a company "investigator"to access these problems.

2011 jeep compass, a rental vehicle.the front right seat safety belt, while appearing to be buckled, was not securely fastened.when the vehicle came to a sudden stop, the belt unbuckled allowing the passenger to move forward towards the dashboard.no injuries resulted from the incident.upon investigation it was apparent that the outer plastic casing of the buckle receptacle was not in the correct position.this piece was moved by hand into the correct position, and the belt then apparently operated appropriately for the remainder of the rental period.
S61/nhtsa 16v-668occupant restraint controller - there wasan accident about 1 year prior to this recall and the safety belts didn't restrain properly, as both driver and passenger were injured and after 19 months later are still being treated for injuries. The seat belt light indicator wouldn't go off when no seat belt was on even at speeds of 40+ miles. The vehicle was taken back to dealership for a fix and was told they couldn't find such an issue.it malfunctions periodically and will not go off as to no seat belt on when going 40+miles or light will come on but dinging noise or sometimes nothing will come on. There has even been a few times when the light comes on when both driver and passenger belts are on and secure. Chrysler issued a recall with no fix yet, but will not issue rental or loaner cars as their is no safety issue???.i want to say all the issues started about a year after i bought the car, first with the vehicle locking me out of the car.the security system seized and i couldn't start my car or anything and it had to be towed at about 9,000 miles. This car was bought brand new. Filed another complaint on the drive train for this vehicle - i have had many issues with this vehicle. The dealership didn't seem to care at all. They would continue to tell me the didn't see anything wrong. I don't have the exact date with me - it was the end of september beginning of october in 2015, right after the car accident. I brought it back after i had received it back from the fixes to car after the accident and dealership said they checked everything and all is fine. It isn't fine and i still continue to have issues with it. It happens periodically and it is when the car is moving.

I researched on the internet and read a lot of other people encountering the same issue.
The subframe or k-frame of the vehicle is rotted out and the sway bars broke away from the vehicle. Cause popping and cracking when driving (in motion).

3 times now over a 9 month span while in a turn the steering wheel has locked up an unable to be moved, you have to slam brakes in order to stop and hope no body is in front of you .
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the steering column seized and the vehicle unexpectedly stalled. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
There is a popping noise in my steering column, when turning the wheel will lock up and then there is a popping noise.
Wife was driving on the highway when car started to swerve from side to side and the brakes locked. She smashed into the barrier and whole car was totalled. Don't even know how we can get compensation for this. *dt
The exhaust hanger allowed the exhaust to shift up into the bumper causing the rear bumper to melt. I just noticed it has gone up under the tailgate too, causing it to not shut completely. When i am driving it i can smell exhaust coming into the car. I have called several jeep dealers around our area and am told there is "no recall" and since my car is out of warranty there is nothing they can do to help. I cant drive the car but have to keep paying the payments - i can't afford to do that and i cant sell or trade with it in this condition....please advise me what other options i have.
I started up my vehicle and the etc light came on, let me remind you that it's been going on and off every day, well, i put the car in drive and as soon as i let off the brake, my car accelerated to 4 rpm's and i hit the back end of a family friend who was parked in the drive way. I had the body/mechanic shop take a look at it while repairing the body, and they had no for sure answer. I have had 5 different mechanics look at it and had my codes ran more than once. It's ridiculous. The etc light is on constantly. It's all a matter which day its going to accelerate on its own and which day its going to lose power. This is ridiculous. I have called chrysler multiply times. My argument is the fact that it isn't something that i have done to the car. What if something was to happen and it came on when i was at a traffic light, somebody is walking across the road and my car accelerates. That family is going to sue me and my insurance and my insurance is going to sue chrysler. It's so pathetic, it costs almost $100 just for them to tell me what's wrong. Then, lord knows how much it will take to actually fix the problem. We have already spent almost $500 trying to fix the problem ourselves and that obviously isn't working. I hope that they're are others who are experiencing this problem so we can get it fixed which it what should've been done a long time ago. There are plenty of complaints online and none of which have found a fix to the problem. My car now has 114,000 miles on it and i still have 4 years left to pay on it. And quite frankly, due to this issue i will probably never buy another jeep again, chrysler as a mater of fact. I hope nobody has gotten hurt though! thanks! Front crossmember had a recall i was never contacted again now the car will not pass inspection
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. While the vehicle was being state inspected, the contact was informed that there was excessive corrosion to the rear subframe of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be inspected. The contact was informed that the entire subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
I brought in my 2011 jeep compass for an oil change and a simple repair.my mechanic called with what i believed was the call that my vehicle was ready to be picked up.to my surprise, he stated that there was a major issue.he stated that the frame was completely rotted and unsafe to drive, even the mile back to my house.after speaking with the dealership i purchased the vehicle, they advised me to drive the vehicle there (approx. 1/2 mile away) and leave for repair.they explained that the frame was placed under extended warranty due to the issue and that i would need to pay approx. $500-$1,000.00 for 'other parts' and an alignment when replacing the frame that were not part of the warranty.quite frankly this is unacceptable.it should cost me no out of pocket expense for a failed part, especially a frame on a less than 10 year old vehicle.i am incredibly thankful that i brought it in prior to giving it to my 17 year old. Very dangerous!jeep should cover the whole cost! in addition, i was told the part isn't available for at least 4-6 weeks!
2011 jeep compass 4wd. Had shaking in steering wheel and a wheel wobble. Even at driving 40mph or lower. Mechanic said the cradle/crossmember was rusted out. At 8 years old, the engine cradle should not be rusted out. Huge safety hazard.
As i was putting items in the rear of my compass the rear hatch fell on my back. I saw it start to come down and caught it with my arm and tried to lift it off of me, but it would not stay in the upright position. The dealership has ordered and received the parts on september 21st, however jeep is waiting for more information to replace the hatch struts, as i have been having problems since january with the rear hatch rubbing the paint off of the bumper as well. If i would not of seen this come down on top of me and was able to catch it before it hit my back, it could of seriously injured me. Or if a small child would of been lifting it, and it fell on them, it would of crushed them as the rear hatch is very heavy with bad struts. There is no reason these struts should of failed as the car is only 15 months old and 10400 miles.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated while the vehicle was being state inspected, the technician informed her that that the sub panels on the vehicle were corroded. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Tried to get inspected and refused dealer said subframe is rusted and rear-crossmember rusted , dealer smail said. Not covered under extended warrenty !!so my question is why would my jerp frame be rusted when it's a 2011 !!
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving 55 mph, the brake warning light illuminated. The vehicle independently decelerated to 30 mph. The contact's daughter continued driving without further issue. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle and stated that the front and rear k-frame was severely rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I got a recall for a rusted sub frame, front and back in which one has a hole from rust.i take it to courtesys in altoona, pa.the guy earnie tellsme there will be parts surrounding the subframe not included with the recall that must be paid for out of pocket.i think everything to fix my car should be covered.they saw a woman coming!pisses me off to no end.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. While driving at any speed, the engine rattled and the steering shook. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the subframe was rusted and rotted out. The contact called tri-city chrysler dodge jeep ram at 800-491-6295 (located at 189 rte 108, somersworth, nh 03878) and scheduled an appointment. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nothing could be done to assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Extremely rusted and corroded crossmemeber and subframe rendering it dangerous of falling apart on the road. The vehicle made a rattling sound under the car while in motion from the streets to the expressway. Seems to be corroding and rusting from the inside out.
I shut the hatch on my 2011 jeep compass that was sitting in my driveway and the back window shattered.i took it up to the dealership where i got it, they took pictures and submitted them to chrysler and they refused to replace and repair the window because they said there is no positive way to determine if it was a manufacture defect.
Front crossmember had a recall i was never contacted again now the car will not pass inspection
My wife and i just exited the highway where we were traveling 70 mph (rt 75 south tennessee). We came to a stop light that was red and applied the brakes. We heard a load sound from the right front wheel and the wheel pulled from my hands. I exited the car to find the lower a frame had broken off the sub frame. If this happened on the highway or on the exit ramp, we would have lost control and crashed. The police and the tow truck driver had never seen anything like this and agreed if this happened at speed, we may have been hurt. Towed the 2011 compass to a dodge dealer in cleveland, tn.
Took vehicle to a local shop for a knocking in the rear. Found the rear subframe was rusted/rotted out. On nov 18th, the 3rd week after getting the vehicle back on the road the front cross member experienced a failure while stopping at an intersection. We were pulled into the lane to our left. Proceeded through the intersection to a service station, feeling like we had a flat tire at that point. A driver behind us pulled in concerned saying the front left tire was perpendicular from the rest of the vehicle as we were driving forward. Towed to a shop who then informed us the cross member was experiencing the same rust issues as the rear and had broken.
Engine cradle and crossmember corrosion. Almost rusted through, wont pass inspection.i don't drive off road.wont pass inspection.drove to the mechanic and when he lifted it he was able to see daylight through the rust holes.
Severe rust in the front and rear frame crossmember.
Most of the time when making a slow right turn on uneven road, you can hear a load popping or snapping sound coming from the left front area, of the lower control arm. Almost sounds as bolts are snapping apart.
Clunking noise in front end . Took it to the dealer. Lower control arms and ball joints needed to be replaced, rear shocks were leaking rear sway bar need to be replaced. Was never of road! needs a new front end at 65000 miles?
My wife and i noticed alot of hard banging in the rear and front of vehicle , at the speed of idling out of our parking. Crossing any rail service no matter how new and we'll built the loud bangs in the front and rear are there at even the slowest of speeds. I have crawled around under our jeep best i can , the front member and rear are beyond rotted, i can only get pictures of the rear damage but the front is horrible also..
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet astro. The contact stated that while driving 3 mph, the front driver's side lower control arm and ball joint fractured with no warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that approximately a year later the front passenger side lower control arm and ball joint fractured. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and repaired. The contact stated that recently while driving, an abnormal noise was heard. The vehicle was taken to several different independent mechanics who stated the idle arm needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the tie rod, idle arms, and link bar were replaced however, the noise continued. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to remedy the failure. The contact inspected the undercarriage of the vehicle and noticed that a piece of sharp metal was cutting into the ball joint rubber boot. The contact found an nhtsa campaign number: 03v328000 (suspension) online which could be related to the failure however, the vehicle was not included. The contact stated that he contacted bical chevrolet of valley stream (709 w. Merrick rd, valley stream, ny 11580) who confirmed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 250,000. *ln*ln
The subframe or k-frame of the vehicle is rotted out and the sway bars broke away from the vehicle. Cause popping and cracking when driving (in motion).
My front subframe /crossmember is rusted and has holes part of the frame snaped where sway bar is should a part that called frame whether a sub frame or not should last
Wipers randomly come on (and stay on for several minutes) when taking left hand turns. The wiper control is on the right side.wheels lose air pressure and deflate frequently.
The tire pressure monitors are sending false information to the computer.dealer is not able to find problem or correct.it is a safety issue because it is giving false information to the driver and he/she may be driving with a tire that is not properly inflated.
2011 jeep compass.consumer writes in regards to tire pressure monitoring system records low pressure incorrectly.
While i was driving to work, the car started to feel like it was going over a speed bump, it was pushing forward but just enough for me to get out of the road into a gas station. When i finally stopped, i turned the car off and back on. It would start but would not move. Took it to a transmission shop and that what they said is the problem. I only have about 160k miles and should not have to replace my transmission so soon!
I was just given an estimate for a rotted subframe of about 800 for the part alone. This is a known issue that has been reported in several jeeps. I'm contacting the dealer as well.my jeep also needs to have the rear subframe also looked at.
Catyliac converter recallmy jeep had sudden issues with acceleration on highway until it broke down and i was nearly in a accident took jeep to midas who found that my engine overheated destroying other components in engine compartment and engine had blown and needed to be replaced other components cost 2000 dollars and engine will cost 6000 dollars by jeep to be replaced but also my catyliac converter was recalled i was informed by several mechanics that catyliac converter failing could cause the airflow issues for motor and cause cylinders to lose compression due to cylinders rods bending and damaging engine after running compression test cylinders had no compression i informed dealership who called midas liars and accused me of not knowing anything i got catyliac converter replaced but motor is already destroyed chrysler corporate denied all fault even after providing all evidence proving that the catalytic converter was the original issue i feel that in the catalytic converter recall should include the potential that the engine could fail and causing the cylinders to lose compression
After noticing my rear tires wearing uneven, we took our car in to have the rear suspension inspected. We got a call telling us the rear subframe had rusted through and broke.
Transmission oil lights always come on when car drives over 70 mph at least 2 hrs in hot weather. Then car slow down and i have to pull over to let it cool off. It will do it 3-4 times during a long trip. It does every summer and the jeep dealer never found the problem.
Noticed a grinding sound in the front end of the jeep. Told dealership when i took the vehicle in for oil change. They replaced the lower control arms thinking that was the problem. Before leaving i could still hear the noise. Maintenance tech rode with me and narrowed it down to the gas pedal. At low speed (3-10 mph) when pressing/releasing the foot feet you heard the grinding. Told me to bring the vehicle back later. Not sure what actions they took at the bring back but they knew it didn't correct the problem. Told me they were contacting jeep for information and there was another vehicle with the same problem. Contacted the dealership again and was told they were going to try were going to try something on the other vehicle since i lived so far away. Contacted them and was told it didn't work. They thought it might be the nature of the beast! they were going to contact jeep again. After more calls...today frustrated i told them i was not happy at all with the run around. People outside of the jeep can hear it as i drive though mall parking lots because they look when it makes noise. Planned on getting a new compass and selling this one to my son for trade in value but have concerns. Talking to others it came up how these other cars that had problems did not recall until so many people died. If i am spending money on a vehicle i will spend it on something that does not grind for an unknown reason. I was told to bring the jeep in and they would loan me a car so they could work on for the whole day. Set up a day and asked for a number to call jeep myself. They gave me the customer service number and the lady i talked to there was great. She talked to me, contacted the dealership-talking to the service gal i am dealing with, made another call and then gave me a number to call on friday when i take the jeep in with a case number and the website for this.
Vehicle cannot be inspected due to an inspection done by shannon tire. Vehicle was stationary on a lift when the person found the subframe completely gone. The motor is close to falling out and we have read numerous occasions where this same issue has taken place.
My 2011 jeep compass engine light came on and i started to lose power on the highway. I had to coast to the side of a small median strip and was later towed to the nearest mechanic.

Driving at highway speed, lost all power. Coast to the next rest stop, flashers on only going 40mph on highway.then car off, restart and proceeded home.a few days later same seniro.new transmission from jeep, $3300.i think they should recall and fix the problems.
Rotting sub frame
The subframe or k-frame of the vehicle is rotted out and the sway bars broke away from the vehicle. Cause popping and cracking when driving (in motion).
Was driving the car and all of a sudden the abs androad hazard and 4 wheel drive lights stardflashing. I took the car to be severed and the attended said the sensor in the right tire went out.
Engine will stumble and stall when driving and headlights are illuminated, windows are rolled down or any electrical drain occurs. This is an indication of tipm failure.
Transmission dip stick tube found to be broken when my vehicle was taken in forservice
The etc light comes on and the vehicle won't go when stepping on the gas. The engine cuts off in the middle of driving. Some days it starts some days it doesn't.replaced the relay switches twice and the etc.neither seems to help. I drive a highway to work everyday and i pray that if it acts up, i can find a place to pull over
My car is going into limp mode while driving, going down really quickly basically.while driving on interstate car decided to go into low speed twice no almost causing a rear-ended collision thankfully driver behind was paying attention and i only received road rage from driver. It shook my wife up so much she was home for two days with xtra anxiety medication. Since that incident car comes and goes in limp mode, so now the car sits my wife is terrified to drive it. I know recall on other jeep models, i feel this too should be recalled.
Thank you.
Just purchased this car.it has 73,000 miles.driving in 100 degree temps going 75-80 and transmission green light comes on.sounds like it can't change gears.i experienced a total loss of acceleration.
Trouble with transmission shifting and lights stop working at times.
The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly increased acceleration. The brake pedal was engaged repeatedly until the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 34,151.
The car went into lymph mode while driving on the highway. It was very dangerous. The car was still running and on, but wouldn't accelerate. After researching online, this has happened to multiple people. It is a problem in the transmission. Even if the transmission is replaced, this will happen again. It is a malfunction in the engine that causes this. Jeep knows about the problem and has not recalled or attempted to correct the issue. Lives could be lost. Please demand they recall and pay for the problem.
Wipers go off when making a turn and/or turning signal light on. Vehicle randomly gets engine light on cold days (new england winters). The jeep will jolt when trying to accelerate or stall for a moment before being able to accelerate when stopped (at a light for example) and some nights the jeep will not accelerate even when pushing down on the accelerate and no "revving" sound occurs as though the car does not register that it needs to accelerate and acceleration slowly increases to no more than 25-30 mph and stalls at an incline. No light comes on when accelerating issues occur. When accelerating issues occur, they ten to occur inner city rather than highway.
When i drive the car down the road the eic emblem comes on and than i start loosing speed from the accelerator. It starts slowing down and than it won't go after that. Have to pull over off the road and turn car off.
Wipers randomly come on (and stay on for several minutes) when taking left hand turns. The wiper control is on the right side.wheels lose air pressure and deflate frequently.
Th e coverage of the seats belt is exposed. That is in the two fronts seats. The mirror of the windshields were taken off partly and/ or totality broken.

The contact owns a 2011 jeep compass. While driving 1 mph out of a parking lot, the contact heard a loud cracking noise coming from the rear window. The contact stated that the window shattered and caused a hole the size of a volleyball in the rear window. The manufacturer was contacted and was unable to provide assistance. The dealer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.
While driving on interstate 5 traveling at 65 - 70 mph there was a loud explosion type sound and the front drivers side of our 5 week old 2011 jeep compass suddenly dropped. Upon coming to a skidding stop in the center divide it was discovered that the wheel and tire had broken off of the vehicle leaving only the center part of the wheel bolted to the car. The car came to a stop on the rotor. The wheel's five spokes were completely snapped and the tire still attached with several burn holes on the side walls but no tread damage. There was no damage to any other parts of the car except for tire markings on the side as it detached from the jeep compass. The wheel and tire were found approximately 60 yards down the freeway. There were no injuries but chp said it was a very fortunate situation and it could have been far worse. The jeep chrysler dealership can not explain it. The insurance company can not explain it but said it was too cost prohibited to pay for forensic testing on the wheel so will only pay for the damage and not the "what ifs". We are being told that it is our responsibility to get the wheel tested for possible stress fractures. Our compass has been at the dealership for a month and chrysler has still not sent an investigator to look at it despite our many calls. Do not want to have just the one wheel fixed and get back in the car if all the wheels could be defective. We might not be so lucky next time.
